Ojibwe Creation Myths
A Whole New World
Part A: Eternal inflation is an alternative theory of creation that is a modification of the Big Bang
Theory. The earliest universe was expanding matter, and particles that were next to each other
would routinely be sent whizzing away to the farthest reaches of their cosmological horizons. It is
no longer like that, however, as the inflation stopped. The theory of eternal inflation is that the
expansion did not stop all at once. Rather, little bubbles of space randomly stopped inflating, or fell
onto trajectories that led to the end of their inflation. And, since the expansion is rapid, the inflating
space creates more space than the bubbles that stop inflating lose so inflation never ends. The result
is an ever expanding multiverse, which means not only is Earth not the center of the universe but
our universe isn t the center of the universe.
Part B: The Ojibwa are an Aboriginal people in Canada. The creation story of the Ojibwa starts with

Both stories start with nothing, but from the nothingness the Ojibwa believe there is one all
powerful being and the MДЃroi believe there are two. This is where the differences become more
prominent, because the MДЃroi story depicts the beings as being almost human like: they give
birth and have flaws, flaws which lead to eventual conflict. The Ojibwa, however, depict a being
of unfathomable power and wisdom whose vision should be altered by no one. The real difference,
however, is most prominent today. The first two beings of MДЃroi culture, Rangi and Papa, are not
worshipped with the intensity that the Ojibwa allow Kitchi Manitou. The MДЃroi believe there
were flaws and the offspring are the true creators of existence, while the Ojibwa believe everybody

The Success Of The United States
The 1990 s seems like it was a lifetime ago, but the truth of it is that the 90 s were only fifteen
years ago. Now, to some people that may seem like a long time and they would be right fifteen
years is a long time. Many things have changed over the years because of events that took place in
the 90 s. The U.S. developed better security in cities because of events like the Oklahoma City
Bombing. The American people learned not to trust everything the government says because of the
Waco, Texas massacre. The government tried to cover up is brutal attack, of the Branch
Davidians, by lying to the American public. Even amidst all the lies and violence in the 90 s, some

the raid by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF) in February of 1993. The raid

US Army s secret Delta Force were called in to help assist in the situation. On April 19, 1993 the
FBI and the Delta Forces attacked the house where the followers of the religious sect where

The authorities used tanks to knock holes in the structure where the Branch Davidians were

out into the open. A fire was started, from the exploding tear gas canisters, and many of the
followers did not make it out of the house and were burned to death. The people who made it out
of the compound were shot or committed suicide according the agents in charge. According to the

The Carolina Panthers Sports Team Analysis
Banks, NASCAR, and Duke Energy; the city of Charlotte is well known for all of these
qualities. However, one thing that always pales in comparison to these traits sports. Looking at
cites like New York, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles all have successful sports teams, whether
they be football, basketball, or baseball. Charlotte in recent years has seen flashes of success but
has never seen a consistent winner like other large cities in the America. Since Charlotte
established sports teams, they have suffered from years of mediocrity because of a lack of star
talent. One reason Carolina Panthers are seen as mediocre in sports is because of the lack
talented stars that they can build on. The Carolina Panthers had a couple of Pro Bowl caliber
players over the years, like Julius Peppers and Steve Smith, but over time the Panthers rid
themselves of both players. When both players left, many fans turned against the franchise and
became fans of other teams. For example, Charlotte now became a conglomerate of NFL teams. I,
personally, have seen many Cowboys, Redskins and Steelers fans in this cityalone than Panther fans,
especially when Steve Smith fled the team in 2013 due to contract disputes.... Show more content on

they were swept out by Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic. Over their tenure, they only had
one all star who was slowly on the decline. Most Charlotte fans today don t remember the days of
Raymond Felton and Gerald Wallace, who were arguably the best players the Bobcats ever had.

Frederick Douglass s Influence On American Society
Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey, or better known, Frederick Douglass was born in
February 1818 to Harriet Bailey in Talbot County, Maryland. For a long time, Frederick did not
know his birthdate or his family lineage and it haunted him till the day he died. Frederick
Douglas family lineage reach as far back into the beginnings of America and maybe even further
into American prehistory. Douglass was believed to have Native American blood in him. Just
from the description of him, his broad forehead, heavy cheekbones, and yellow brown skin
(Preston, pg.9) and his childhood master calling him little Indian boy (Preston, pg.9) made a lot
of people assume that he was. Douglass once recalled about the time when a stranger on a
Hudson River steamer who took me for one of the noble red men of the far West. ...Douglas
replied that he was not an Indian but a Negro, he said the man turned away in disgust. (Preston,
pg.9) Frederick Douglass was proud that he was a Negro even though he had no problems with
Native Americans. Frederick Douglass passion for the abolition of slavery may be seen as arising
from his early childhood experiences from his brief stay with his first slave master, Aaron Anthony.
Before Living with Anthony, Douglass lived with his grandmother Betsey Bailey. Douglas did not
know his maternal mother, Harriet Bailey, because due to her work with Anthony, she was not
permitted to care for her own children. So his only motherly figure, his grandma, who took

The Evolution Of Polar Bears
Only from the literal definition, the evolution is a process which something passes by degrees to a
different stage, especially a more advanced or mature stage. For instance, in the ancient time, it is
because the dinosaurs had already deracinated so that other animals who survived evolve in order
to comfort to the times. Among these animals, apes are a typical example of evolutionas they
gradually develop to become todays human. Nonetheless, at present, it seems that it is not
exceedingly easy to feel the existence of the phenomena of evolution. Actually, it exists in many
places, such as Arctic Polar, Alaska, and Canada etc. In Canada and Alaska, numerous grolars were
founded, which are the descendants of polar bearand grizzly bears, and this new specie is the result
of a type of biology evolution.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

into grizzly habitats , grizzly males roam to establish territory and come in contact with receptive
female polar bears. Meanwhile, because of the global warming, the ice melts constantly. Therefore,
the amount of pizziles and grizzlies increase, and the number of pure polar bears declines. It
means that polar bears are getting the short end of the stick in this relationship, and like Geoff
York said, not gaining any genetic diversity. Furthermore, except the melting of the ice, global
warming also boosts the range of activity of grizzly bears for crossbreeding with polar

How Did The Right Of The Government Change The Power Of...
The world is always changing, people, ideas, and new rules. The way people think and what they
want in life change as they age and as new progress is made. Therefor, government should be
changed when its ideals no longer aline with that of the peoples. The right of the government to
rule over people should come from the people s approval. If people do not agree with their
governmentthey have the right to change their government. This right has changed history all over
the world. Without this right the power of the government may be in the hands of a single ruler or
monarch who has no interest in their people s wants or needs, and when this power falls into the
wrong hands the people of a country have the right to take this power away and end the trynary in
their country and give power to a more well suited government.... Show more content on

There have been many instances in history where the people have successfully caused a change in
their government. The Declaration of Independence calls on this right when they broke away from
England and formed their own government. England has also used the right to alter government
when dethroning king Charles I during the English Civil War. Charles s belief of absolute power in
a sole monarch was countered by Parliament, who won the war, wanting to rule over the English
government. Giving Parliament the power to rule over the English government was a great change
to how the country was ruled, and creating the Commonwealth of England. These are not the only
instances in which the people s power to alter the government has changed history forever, but they
are two times the people have changed their country

Ambiguity In Carmilla
The quickest way of describing Carmilla is as a Victorian lesbian vampire novel.
This tends to raise a couple eyebrows in the room, so let me take a deep breath and explain that
Carmilla is a gothic novel written during the Victorian era that addresses issues like ambiguity,
memory, transgressive sexuality, and gives insight into the tensions that existed between
Catholicism and Protestantism, Ireland and England.
At face value, the novel hardly makes any mention of the political and social turmoil that was
present during the time. Carmilla is the frame tale of a young aristocrat, Laura, whose isolation is
broken by the appearance of the titular character. Although Carmilla ends up staying with Laura by
accident , Carmilla is really a century long dead vampire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I chose to set my Carmilla pictures against a similar background (of copper, however, and not of
gold), because I wanted to invoke a sense of the numinous, of something that transcended time,
space, and physical boundaries, just as Carmilla managed to transcend boundaries within the
text. Yet at the same time, Carmilla is the living dead, and not an abstract philosophical poster
child, so while the background and shape of the hands were left loose and undefined, I added
shadows and dimension to the hand itself to evoke Carmilla s ties to the physical world. Finally,
each picture is of two hands in various poses, and I sought to represent the reciprocal nature of
Carmilla and Laura s relationship, as well as their ambiguous roles by making it unclear whose
hand was whose. Each pose is ambiguous in the hands relationship to each other, and there is no
clear aggressor or victim, Ireland or England, Protestant or Catholic,
Laura or Carmilla.
The reason that I am so attracted to this sprawling rabbit trail of a topic (and the reason why I
would highly recommend everyone to pick up this novel for a try) is because of the

The Fundamental Economic Principles
Part 1 Scarcity When humans moved from hunter/gatherer societies to villages and then cities, a
division of labor occurred. Some people became producers of food, some processors, some the
ancillary goods and services that are necessary for humans to live together. They found that
sometimes there was a surplus of goods, and sometimes a lack of goods. This lack of goods is
called the scarcity principle, and it is the fundamental economic principle of needing (or wanting)
goods in a world that has limited resources. It means that in society, there will almost always be
situations in which there are insufficient resources to fulfill all human wants and needs. Of
course this also implies that at any given time, not all individual or group goals can be provided,
which results in tradeoffs and substitutions. If we think about scarcity as a principle, then the idea
of having scarce resources becomes a fundamental principle of what we call economics really the
science of the relationship between production, goods and services, and the amounts we have of
each. In any given group (society) there are needs for resources. Resources are the way we make
products or turn raw products into something useful (agriculture). Resources might be land, raw
materials like ores, etc. Then human resources are necessary to turn these raw recourses into
something useful; metal, flour from grain, wine or beer from grain as well, meat prepared for
human consumption, etc. Often these particular

religion, referencing the book of Isaiah in his 1967 song All Along the Watchtower as he writes a

To do this day, there are still no records to be found of how Dylan really crashed while he was

have been circulating around for years, such as he lost his balanced or that he slipped on an oil
slick. Regardless, whatever happened on his motorcycle in that summer changed his life
forever. In a 1984 interview, Dylan stated, When I had that motorcycle accident . . . I woke up
and caught my senses, I realized that I was just workin for all these leeches. And I really didn t
want to do that (Scherman 5). Dylan went into a transformation after that accident that was seen
in his music as well. According to sources, he had married Sara Lownds in 1965, and both of
them raised five children together (Scherman 5). During recovery time, Dylan worked on

around the family and become tranquil. His songs reformed as well. He went from writing loud
songs like Highway 61 and Blonde on Blond to the quieter songs of John Wesley Harding and

Negative Effects Of Foster Care
The foster care system in America negatively affects the lives of adolescents in the system
mentally and physically. On any given day there are over 428,000 children in foster care and
more than 20,000 kids age out of foster care with no permanent family; therefore, they are being
left behind socially, educationally, mentally, and under developed for the real world. Foster care
first started in the nineteen hundreds when Charles Loring Brace created the Children s Aid
Society in New York. Then later on the 1900 s, social agencies started to supervise and pay the
foster children s sponsors. However, back in foster care s history and still today, the kids in the

He promised to make a difference for the foster community, so he decided to get his bachelors in

realities himself and knowing the struggle for the children in foster care, he said the reality of
facing life s responsibilities alone is paralyzing; often we are far behind educationally, socially,
and emotionally compared to those who grew up in loving families (Lawson). Most of these
children in foster care, ranging from two to fourteen, have to leave home because of neglect and
trauma that had happened to them previously. Most of them don t know what it s like to live with a
loving and healthy family like most of American children get to experience everyday. Foster
children experience maltreatment at home and in the system that becomes a catalyst for more
corruption in their lives.
Foster children struggle immensely within healthcare and the foster care system. They are not
receiving the correct support to help them when they go out into the real world.Within foster care,
children and teens can either go into a foster home or a group home. Group homes can prevent
permanent and authentic connections, while in foster homes, adolescents experience abuse and
they are aware that there is no long term stability. For fifteen years, Betsy Krebs has worked with

The Silent Way
I.The Silent Way
On the years of 1960s the Audiolingual Method was under a strong challenge in the form of the
Cognitive Code and an educational trend known as Discovery Learning. These concepts most
directly challenged the idea that language learning was all about mimicry and good habit formation.
An emphasis on human cognition in language learning addressed issues such as learners being
more responsible for their own learning formulating independent hypotheses about the rules of the
target language and testing those hypotheses by applying them and realizing errors. When students
create their own sets of meaningful language rules and concepts and then test them out, they are
clearly learning through a discovery/exploratory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Language learning is usually seen as a problem solving activity to be engaged in by the students
both independently and as a group, and the teacher needs to stay out of the way in the process as
much as possible.
It has been stated that the Silent Way is also well known for its common use of small color rods of
varying length (cuisenaire rods) and color coded word charts depicting pronunciation values,
vocabulary and grammatical paradigms. It is a unique method and the first of its kind to really
concentrate on cognitive principles in language learning.
We can state that the benefits of this method are that the students arrive to produce independent and
experimental language activities at the same time that develop their own interior criteria for the
accuracy. For sure, the students would like this method.
B.Background and Principles
Caleb Gattegno, a mathematician and psychologist, developed the Silent Way approach. To give an
exact description of how the lessons are structured is a little complicated.
It has been found that Gattegno himself points out that it is not a structural or a linguistic or a
direct (or any other) method of teaching languages. Basically, one can say that the teacher provides
very little verbal input for most of the lesson s/he is indeed silent, as we have said. Through body
language and gestures, the teacher encourages his/her students to participate actively in the learning
process.
It has been said that the

Research Paper On Whiskey
Whiskey is a unique spirit, with a unique taste. Period. While it would be wrong to say whiskey
is unique in its own right since other spirits have some traits in common with whiskey. Vodka,
for the most part is also made of grain. Brandy is kept to mature in barrels. Rum has a similar
range of unaged and aged expressions, as does the Mexican favorite tequila. Those last three
often benefit from aging in used whiskey barrels. Gin may not seem to be related, but its grain
spirit, and its ancestral cousin, genever, is barrel aged in the Netherlands to make a surprisingly
whiskey like spirit. But no other spirit inspires as much passion as whiskey! There are countless
more vodkas than there are whiskeys, with indigenous designer brands popping up in every
country but are there books that examine the differences among them? Do people collect them?
Tequila inspires brand loyalty, but can you name the master distiller of your favorite brand? Do

The Discovery And Observation Of The Cosmic Microwave...
The Discovery and Observation of the Cosmic Microwave Background: Implications for Cosmology
On a spring day in late May in 1964, the future of our understanding of the universe was greatly
influenced, arguable on accident. Two radio astronomers discovered something unusual, not with
their eyes, but with their ears. Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson essentially heard the buzz that the
universe was echoing into their headphones, but they could not wrap their head around what it was.
The two scientists were bewildered by the odd humming sound that was picked up by their labs
horn antenna and they had no idea the significance of what they were listening to. They thought it
must have been some sort of interference from a secondary source in or around their lab and
antenna. They did everything in their power to eliminate anything that could possibly interfere with
the radio signals that they were receiving; they went as far as getting rid of pigeons that had their
nest on top of the astronomer s antenna. It was not until they successfully got rid of anything that
could potentially explain this noise that they came to the exciting conclusion that what they
stumbled upon must be big. With this knowledge in mind, the idea that something big was at their
fingertips, they had a few questions on their mind that needed answering. First and foremost, they
obviously wanted and needed to figure out what exactly the noise they were hearing was. Secondly,
they wanted to know what exactly

Facial Display Experiment
As the hypothesis predicted, the rate and the duration of facial displays do influence the outcome
of a contest between two male Betta splendens. In fact, it was found that the male which carried
out more facial displays for longer was, on average, defined as the winner of a dyadic conflict.
The average results seem to reinforce this hypothesis, although a few results went against it (e.g.,
the fish in tank 13), which might have been due to some limitations of the experiment. The heater
on the left side of the tank might have interfered with the response from the left fish as it consists in
a physical object and might have reduced the attention of the fish especially during the first part of
the experiment. This means that there might have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

as many external factors might alter the outcome. In fact, in the natural environment aggression

whilst the subordinate flees. This conveys genetic superiority to a potential female mate and
therefore suggests that they are breeding fighting fish and will be the best fitted to defend the
area around the nest (Doutrelanta C, McGregora PK, Oliveirab RF, 2001). Studies show that the
agonistic behaviour of a Siamese fighting fish is influenced by the effect of an audience. With a
female audience, males tend to show agonistic displays that are not so aggressive, as a recent
study shows that females tend to prefer less aggressive individuals (Teresa L. Dzieweczynski,
Alyssa M. Russell, Lindsay M. Forrette and Krystal L. Mannion, 2014). However, they tend to
have more aggressive contact (e.g., biting) with their opponents in the presence of males, which
eavesdrop on the display. The behavior of the fish might have also been influenced by the
presence of a nest or of progeny in their territory as studies show that aggressiveness increases in
males who need to defend nests

Health Care Industry Paper
Health Care Industry Paper Lucionda Berry HCS/449 May 14, 2013 Dr. Leslie Freeman
Introduction In today s society, healthcare and the issues surrounding the topic has went through
some major changes within the last decade. Some of these changes in my opinion were decent and
very important when it comes to providing exceptional quality care in this health care industry.
Although some of the changes were not so reasonable in the eyes of most, these changes were in

Many smaller communities in the United States are already utilizing telemedicine to great
advantage (Burchill, 2010).Although telemedicine is a great way to deliver quality healthcare
in a timely fashion, there is also a downside to the procedure as well. Telemedicine will in some
way hinder the face to face communication between the doctor and patient that is vital in reducing
errors. Most patients have a better understanding of what is expected of them when it is
communicated clearly and effectively by their physician. Communication is the process of
understanding and having meaning (Du Pre, 2005.) and it is also the process of relaying
information between people by the use of words, letters, symbols, or body language (Sallee
Forrest, 2005,). In my opinion I feel that telemedicine will decrease the moral as far as the Dr. and
Patients are concerned. Although telemedicine may decrease a portion of the healthcare cost by
less visits to the doctor, it will lose the value and importance of actually sitting down and talking
with your doctor and receiving that one on one face to face time. Most patients are not even in
tuned with technology and this can result in many errors and communication issues. What role do
you plan to have in the industry? I think once I have entered the healthcare industry I will play a
vital role in implementing fair but tough decision making when it comes to delivering efficient,
friendly, quality healthcare. I feel that I

Essay on Non-Profit Organization Analysis
There used to be a time when zoos used to be full of animals. A time when extinction was not a
problem. That was the past. Today, zoos all around the world are missing many animals such as
the African elephant or the dodo bird. All of these wonderful animals became extinct because we
were careless enough to let them all die. World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is an organization that is
trying to prevent extinction from happening. WWF is an environmental organization dedicated to
protecting the world s wildlife and wetlands ( World Wildlife Fund ). It is one of the largest private

which is a global event that is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and

began in a small town in Switzerland by normal people and become one of the most involved and
dedicated charitable organization the world has ever seen.
If we want to pass a living planet on to our children, then we need to realize that our actions matter.
WWF is a wonderful organization that is dedicated to preserving the environment and our planet.
WWF is different from other environmental protection organizations. What makes WWF so unique
is that it is a non profit organization meaning that all of the money earned goes toward
accomplishing their mission. WWF does not even spend a penny on advertisement. They rely on
their volunteers to advertise the organization to their friends and families. WWF has been around
for a long time. People have known and trusted this organization since 1961. This means that WWF
is an old and reliable organization which uses our money wisely. Lastly, this organization offers

Short Story Of Our Secret By Susan Griffin
What we see on the outside is not always what is felt or endured on the inside. The real truth
about a person can be hidden, manipulated, sometimes even forgotten in the back of the person s
very own mind. This truth is masked, and it is not always easy to be unearthed. But this is
ordinary. There is not one person on this planet that does not have a sort of mask, some sort of truth
or secret that is unknown to the people around them. People living before our generation, like
the Himmlers, had secrets. People living now have secrets. I have secrets. It is natural for
people to want to know everything about everything, but it s just not humanly possible. Griffin
herself tried to discover some of the secrets of those who lived before her. She wanted to know
what caused people to be who they turned out to be. Although she was able to find possible
causes as to why someone did what they did, or said what they said, there was not much solid
evidence to go off of. She may have been right, but we will most likely never know, because the
truth tends to die with its bearer. But, through exploring people s pasts and analyzing the
information she gathered, Griffin unmasks the nature of more than just a few humans.... Show more

their own way. These secrets and memories influence how we think and act. They are not
necessarily a dead weight, as Griffin says in her work, but they can be perceived as such. It
depends on the person, because secrets and memories can either hold us back, or push us
forward, maybe even both. These secrets and memories can serve to be a source for what we see
and hear almost each and every day in the news, and sometimes experience in person:

Pet Guardian Research Paper
Welcoming responsible pet guardians has a multitude of advantages in the current rental market.
How can property management maintain a pet friendly community without alienating residents who
don t have pets?
Pet Screening, Policies, and Practices:
A thorough screening process is the most important step in identifying responsible pet guardians. An
inoculated pet, free of parasites, well trained, and on a leash is not likely to cause problems. For
thorough screening, management can require a pet rental agreement addendum, copies of vet
records, a copy of spay or neuter verification, and a dog training certificate with pet tenant
applications. Responsible pet people will also be glad to include a letter of recommendation from
their vet. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pet Poop
Desirable pet guardians train their dogs which includes teaching them to poop outside during
daily walks. Any conscientious dog person is willing and prepared to pick up after their dog
during walks. Accountable pet guardians are willing and eager to sign a pet rental agreement
addendum that specifies cleaning up after their dogs. No resident will be happy stepping in dog
poop, but someone without pets is far less likely to laugh it off or even tolerate it.
A pet friendly residential community can have designated outdoor dog park areas separate from
common community areas. Dispensers with poop bags, placed throughout the property, will remind
dog residents of their cleanup responsibilities and will assure other residence that dog cleanup is
expected.
Allowing cats outdoors can alienate community residents. Cats usually don t frequent dog parks,
yet they do poop. Most resident would prefer not to have their garden turned into a litter box or
cats peeing in their planters. Unwanted litters of kittens form cat colonies create a myriad of health
issues and resident alienation. If management only accepts indoor cats, these problems can be
avoided. A reliable cat person keeps their cat indoors even without an indoor

New Age Dating Sociology
Historically dating, navigating relationships and ending relationships had been quite the difficult
task. The introduction of the internet, texting, and social networking has changed the way
individuals communicate amongst each other. For this reason, many researchers are interested in
how gender plays a role in an individual s concepts of new age dating, flirting, hook up culture,
breaking up and relationships in relations to new media. This paper will argue that new age media
has enhanced communicationand mitigates the miscommunication hypothesis to an extent.

found. The existence of these cultural norms continue onto the youth and impact their sexuality and

Acquaintances can now be better established through digital profiles, knowledge can be readily
shared, thoughts and feelings are better formulated, and distance between the parties allows for
better managing of the situation. This is especially true in regards to breaking up within
relationships. The distance aspect allows the individual to disassociate from the other person with
minimal knowledge to the outcome. Ambiguity and social habits remain the same with new age
media but given the explicit, slow response and distant nature of new media in comparison to in

conclusion outright ignores falsifying personalities and information completely, such as in
predatory behaviours, the argument that communication between two parties with romantic interest

Baby Step 1: Put $1000 in a Beginner Fund
This may not seem like a major move in becoming debt free, but it gives us well needed practice in
changing our behaviors to start becoming money minded. For me this was a step that was already
complete, however, for some this may be the hardest step to take because it requires them to change
and become committed to a new process (Ramsey, 2012).
Baby Step 2: Pay Off All Debt Using the Debt Snowball
The debt snowball is a simple concept by which the user makes a list of all of their outstanding
debts from lowest to highest and starts paying them off. This step takes some coordination through
budgeting and lifestyle reduction. In the Chapter titled Dumping Debt , Dave states that the first
thing we should do to eliminate debt, is to quit borrowing money, which includes using credit
cards (Ramsey, 2012). This is such a profound revelation, taking that credit card debt is up to 887
billion dollars as of January 2015 (Nasdaq, 2014).
Baby Step 3: Put Three To Six Months of Expenses into a Savings Account for a Full Emergency

The Remains Of The Day
Protagonists of novels should be relatable and realistic. They should be individuals with whom
readers can easily identify, and consequently should be painted with as much humanity as possible.
Mr. Stevens, the protagonist of Kazuo Ishiguro s novel The Remains of the Day, is no exception.
He is meant to be an incredibly human character, and consequently it makes sense that the reader
should seek to define his flaws and limits, and whether or not he exhibits spiritual imprisonment , as
Robert Stone terms it. Of course, it is necessary to identify exactly what spiritual imprisonment is.
At its core, spiritual imprisonment can be defined as someone being restricted by someone or
something else from pursuing what they value. The character of Stevens that Ishiguro draws in his
short narrative, and the personal values that Stevens subtly exhibits, suggest that Stevens, while
misguided in his values for a large portion of the book, is free to pursue those values, and
consequently is not spiritually imprisoned.
Before delving further into an analysis of Ishiguro s protagonist, it is absolutely necessary to
identify exactly what Stevens values. He values and meditates on throughout the entirety of the
novel dignity. Specifically, Stevens posit[s] that dignity has to do crucially with a butler s ability
not to abandon the professional being he inhabits (Ishiguro, 42). Moreover, he reflects that the great
butlers are great by virtue of their ability to inhabit their

A Stolen Life Analysis
A Stolen Life begins with Jaycee Dugard introducing her family and summarizing her life at
home before the abduction. On June 10th, 1991, Jaycee left for school and was never to return
home. She was abducted from the side of the road by a man named Phillip. Phillip brought her
back to his home and explained what he had done and why. He did not go into much detail and
so Jaycee continued to ask questions, but did not receive answers. Phillip took Jaycee to his
bathroom where he proceeded to undress her. Jaycee cried and screamed, saying she had wanted
to go home, but Phillip ignored it. Phillip then moved her outside to a shed. This is her bedroom.

This connection is based on slavery, but is more specific to sex slaves. Jaycee was used as a sex

movie that jumps to mind right away is Taken. No, it is not based on a true story, but it shows
that it can happen anywhere, anytime and to anyone. People lose their lives to stuff like this and
that is why it is so important. The idea of sex slaves seems outdated, which is another aspect that
makes it so interesting. A person could dig deep into the past, look at what is happening now, or

Heroic Spirits Essay
Servants are Heroic Spirits made into special familiars of the highest rank that are bound to the
Master. Pure Heroic Spirits, the main body in the Throne of Heroes, can only be summoned by the
World, and summoning even one is considered to be a miraculous occurrence. Differing from the
normal definition of familiars that can be likened to minor mascots unable to be stronger than their
masters, Heroic Spirits are the most powerful of beings with which even the five magicians would
never be able forge a contact. Rather than it being a hard process to summon them or the fact that
they far surpass magi, it is their intrinsic nature in that they are beings beyond magecraft. Magi can

Taking a Look at Squirrels
Squirrels are everywhere, see figure 1 for an example of the grey squirrels in our area. They
skitter through trees above heads, forage in trashcans, and chew through wires. Squirrels are so
common the average person could easily overlook their importance. Squirrels have played a
significant role in the evolution of seed defenses in pinetrees. The evolution of these seed defenses
is frequently attributed to birds and other seed predators (Benkman 1994). The ever present
unnoticed squirrel is actually uniquely designed to prey upon pines and pines in turn have
developed traits to defend against them. Benkman et al discussed this in a paper on limber pine
tree dispersal. Their study argues that while Clark s nutcracker may play an important role in
seed dispersal squirrels were actually the most important seed predator. The study showed that
the pine trees adaptations made to defend against squirrels decreased the efficiency of other seed
predators. They set out to prove that squirrels were the apex seed predator (Benkman 1994 1).
This paper will outline some of the research that has been put together to map out the coevolution
of squirrels and pine trees. Since this paper will focus primarily on squirrels, it is important to
have some background knowledge about these omnipresent critters. Squirrels are mammals
included in the order Rodentia, and there are over 1,600 species of Rodentia. They compose
almost a third of all mammal species, and one of the seven

In the 1980s, investments banks such as Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, Bear Stearns, JP
Morgan, and Morgan Stanley started selling mortgage bonds. Mortgage bonds were a collection
of thousands of home mortgages, purchased from lenders, and their associated income streams
(monthly payment). To address the fact that some homeowners often refinance their debt when
interest rates are low which prematurely pays off the debt, mortgage bonds were stacked into
layers called tranches . The lowest tranche represented mortgages to be paid off early, and the
highest layer was the last mortgages to be paid off. Then, in the 1990s, bonds were created
consisting of subprime mortgages, which were higher risk mortgages with high interest rates,
made to borrowers with lower credit levels. Essentially, banks were handing out mortgages like
candy to consumers who were never going to be able to make the payments, but Wall Street kept
buying and packaging the mortgages into bonds. Since these bonds were inherently riskier, one
wonders why investors were still willing to buy. Investors, who look at ratings by agencies such
as Moodys and Standard Poors, had no reason to believe these bonds were risky investments. The
agencies, whom were being paid by Wall Street, were assigning high ratings to these risky bonds.

Argumentative Essay On Food Stamps
Food Stamp of Approval Everyone is guilty of judging another person at some point in his or her
life whether they realize it or not. For instance, if you see a child screaming uncontrollably in
Wal Mart, you might think his parents didn t raise him in a correct way. Society makes it so
easy to criticize others between all the tabloids and articles on social media. While criticizing
others may be easy, we all know it is wrong. While the problem remains in our judgement of the
people around us, the solution centers around tolerance and equality. Because I am a cashier at
Town Country, I see many different people come into the familiar regularly. It is my job to treat
customers with utmost respect while they are shopping there. However, I sometimes tend to
silently disprove of some people due to their payment methods. Most states offer foodstamps to
people who need some financial assistance. Food stamps allow people to buy strictly food items
without using their own money. The initial purpose of food stamps is simply to provide help for
those families who qualify for the program. Although food stamps are meant to assist those in need,
some individuals tend to abuse the system. That infuriates the taxpayers in the United States.
Taxpayers get frustrated when individuals on food stamps come in and buy very expensive or
unhealthy groceries. The taxpayers then think their money is being used to support an individual s
unhealthy eating habits.

open the constitution were messy, and ultimately failures, but there are still some who think
Canada should give one more kick at the can (Dodek 2013, 31). The paper will argue that Canada
as a country should not re open the constitution. The paper will be organized in the following way.
First, it will look at the two historical attempts to open the constitution,... Show more content on

It is clear that the current system does not work, and some sort of reform is needed, but it does not
necessarily have to be the structural reform that requires constitutional amendments to be made.
While some may say it is necessary to create an elected senate, there are other options to give the
Senate more legitimacy. Just because a body is appointed does not mean it cannot have a
measure of popular support. Take for instance the Supreme Court of Canada, which is an
appointed body that is wildly respected, and the reason they are respected are because they are
professionals who perform a crucial role in society. A better class of senate could be achieved by
changing the process to appoint senators by cutting down on patronage and partisan appointments
to give it more legitimacy (Crowley Et al 2014, 13).
In a similar vein of creating a senate that is not beholden to political parties, and their masters,
making it a more independent body is to continue along the route that Primer JustinTrudeau started
in 2014, by kicking out Liberal Senators from his caucus (Cudmore 2014). By creating
independent senators, and attempting to make them the new normal it would make the senate a
true chamber of sober second thought. These are just two proposals to help the senate, but they
provide a wider idea of what is possible beyond the few suggestions the Harper

Manufacturing, Incorporated has become a leader within the industry of plastic molding. An
eclectic array of state of the art design products (plastic beverage containers, custom plastic parts,

factors contributing to the company s success (Riordan, 2008). Each specialized plastic is in a

Chase et al. (2006) state that lean production is an integrated set of activities designed to achieve
high volume production using minimal inventories of raw materials, work in process, and finished
goods (p. 471). The essential components of lean production are surplus elimination, constant work
flow, and consumer appeal. The minute these components are in the neighborhood of supply,
quality and cost, this outlines the groundwork for a lean production organization. A Japanese plan
of continuous progress named the Kaizen is responsible for the lean production idea. Riordan can
adjust the lean production concept by employee empowerment and advancement, staying focused
on making processes stronger, impact of consumer relations, rapid merchandise growth and
production, and cooperation with suppliers are the imperative strategies of Riordan managing lean.
Features of a lean enterprise include a combined single piece continuous workflow and near
incorporation of the entire value series from raw material to finished product. In addition, demand
drives production rather than predictions. This means that manufacture designing is by consumer
demand or appeal and not to become system loading or strict work flows on the company floor.
This will help Riordan keep minimal inventories at each step of the production process. It is also
important to know that having a working participation by employees involved in

PROLOGUE
Suzy McHullivan was a cheerful young girl with braids as long as the sun s rays. She gracefully
strolled around in a beautiful, fluffy, and pale blue dress. Lucky for her, she was friends with
Johnny Hudson, the son of Captain Henry Hudson of England. Johnny wore a hat as furry as a
mother bear s cub, and a coat made out of splendid material. Captain Hudson, or Mr. Hudson as
Suzy called him, always dressed to look as a king. Suzy and Johnny were on an adventure of a
lifetime, with Mr. Hudson holding the ship s wheel.

entered, I heard Mr. Hudson. We ve come upon a big problem, men. Johnny gasped as we
listened some more. We re surrounded by frozen water! I ran over to him, panicking like an
animal in the winter without food. What shall we do? I asked quickly. I m afraid we ll be
sending some men to venture onto the ice to cut the dangerous cubes, so we may be freed. He
replied, looking out into the ocean. Oh, Mr. Hudson. Could I help to do so? I asked as the idea
came sailing into my head. Mr. Hudson laughed and turned to the crew. MEN! All men... My
hopes were fading away until a second later, Johnny came running up to me. My father needs
help. He doesn t want the men to fall in while cutting the ice. Do you have any ideas? Indeed, I
do! We rushed over to Mr. Hudson on the deck filled with worried crew members. Mr. Hudson, I
have an idea. I said. You should attach rope onto the crew members so they won t fall into the
rushing waters while they cut the ice. I smiled as I spoke. Mr. Hudson

Missouri River Research Paper
The Missouri River s the longest river in North America. It starts in Western Montana and ends
North of St. Louis, Missouri. Most people think that the Missouri River was made over 30 million
years ago, but because its changed its stream over time, the current course of estimation is at 115,
000 years old. The first human life emerged in the valley of the Missouri riverpast 12 thousand
years ago. The banks of the Missouri River were settled on by more than 10 different tribes of
Native Americans. The word Missouri can be defined from the language of some of the tribes as
muddy river . The river was named because of its silty shores which made the water look orangish
brown sometimes.

Air Superiority In The Military
Introduction (1/2) Air superiority is the single most important factor in deciding the outcome of a
modern conventional war. Military operations on land, sea, or in the air are extremely difficult, if
not impossible, for the side that doesn t control the sky. In the words of Field Marshal Bernard L.
Montgomery, If we lose the war in the air, we lose the war and we lose it quickly.

Main Point 1: Identify and describe a deficiency in a Joint Force Capability, significant risk
description, what is the risk for future joint operations?(1)
#Air Superiority# Counter air operations are designed to gain control of the air and wrest such
control away from an adversary. Air superiority is a condition on the spectrum of air control, which
ranges from adversary air supremacy, to air parity, to friendly air supremacy. The air superiority
condition is achieved when friendly operations are able to proceed without prohibitive
interference from opposing forces. In modern military operations, achieving this level of control
of the air is a critical pre condition for success. Air superiority provides freedom from attack,
freedom to attack, freedom of action, freedom of access, and freedom of awareness. Importantly, it

Factors That Affect Our Soil Quality And Increase Som Is...
From a practical point of view, anionic polyacrylamide (PAM) has been commonly used as a soil
conditioner to reduce erosion by clay flocculation and binding particles and stabilizing the outer
aggregate surfaces. Moreover, PAM is highly resistant to microbial degradation, with a
decomposition rate of в€
ј10% yr 1, which has led to its efficient use as a soilconditioner for long
periods. Wu et al. (2012) revealed that PAM showed a minor effect on 14C allocation in plant
parts and soil in a short term 14C labeling study. Except the observations of PAM
biotransformation, little information is available on the PAM efficiency on the microbial
activity in soils. In contrast, the agronomic benefits of biochar (BC) application to improve soil
quality and increase SOM is growing. Applying BC improves the physicochemical properties of
soil and maintains C and N sources, owing to a pronounced increase in plant growth and yield.
Moreover, wood biochar decreased the soil bulk density and enlarged diameter of aggregates,
thereby reducing soil loss. However, little is known about the effect of BC on soil microbial
populations and activities. BC or PAM showed minor effect on the decomposition of SOM based
on CO2 evolution because of the stability of these conditioners. A high portion of 14C maize
residues were stabilized in the soil after adding BC and PAM as the binders by the occlusion of
labile residue C into aggregates. Understanding the short term dynamics of C caused by PAM or
BC is

Chlamydia, And, Etiology And Management Of Chlamydia
Abstract: Chlamydia is a very common sexually transmitted disease in the United States. It can
infect both men and women. Chlamydia is treatable but if left untreated it can cause permanent
damage in female reproductive system and in males the damage is rare. Sexually active females
and males should be tested every year. This article will review the epidemiology, clinical features,
diagnosis, etiology and management of Chlamydia.
Introduction:
Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common bacteria that cause sexual transmitted genital
infections. C. trachomatis is a small gram negative bacterium. It is the most common cause of
urethritis in men and cervicitis in females. Many patients are asymptomatic and thus provide an
ongoing reservoir for infection. It allows ongoing transmission and allows silent disease.
C.trachomatis infection can cause the scarring of the Fallopian tubes, ovaries, and endometrial
lining. It results in an increase risk of future ectopic pregnancy and tubal infertility. Thus this
bacterium is estimated to be the most costly sexually transmitted infection.
Epidemiology:
More than 2 4 million cases of Chlamydia are reported every year. The infection mostly occurs in
females, age 15 24 years. Women are most likely to get a Chlamydial genitourinary infection and
are most likely to be asymptomatic than men. Women develop long term complications such as
pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility. The prevalence of Chlamydia has been reported to be as

Saying Goodbye To A Teacher
Saying goodbye to a my choir teacher They say people never know how important something is,
until it s gone. When I said goodbye to my choir teacher, it opened my eyes to how influential
she was. Jami Lercher pursued the job of my choir teacher freshman and sophomore year at
Roseville Area High School. She played a significant role in my life as my mentor and a great
friend. She also invited me to join her outside of schoolchoir, VOX and we grew even closer through
that experience. Everywhere she went, merriment and exhilaration followed her. She assisted me
with the ability to read notes and read music. Unfortunately, the jubilance of the choir department
would come to a halt. Mrs. Lercher received the opportunity of a lifetime and was accepted into the
university of MiamiFlorida to pursue her doctorate degree. She would depart from RAHS, taking
that merriment and exhilaration with her to Miami that she had constructed for the choir
department. The choir students were grieving, but we supported her decision and knew that this
would aid her immensely when she would come back to teach. The night I said goodbye to Mrs.
Lercher was a night of waterworks, compliments and the hardships of expressing our goodbyes.
That night my choir, Bel Canto, just finished our final concert of the year, making the waterworks
pump double of what they should. The crowd roared when we finished our final song called Sail
Away . The compliments flowing from the audience s mouths about how

Analysis Of The Tomb Painting Queen Nefertari And Isis
Analysis of the tomb painting Queen Nefertari and Isis, by an unknown artist.
Pigment painting on tomb walls.
Queen and Goddess
In this formal analysis, the subject is the wall painting Queen Nefertari and Isis, located in
Nefertaris tomb. The painting shows the ancient Egyptian Goddess Isis leading the Queen by the
hand. Nefertari lived around 1300 1255 BC and was the first and exclusively claimed wife of the
Egyptian pharaoh Ramses II.
When analyzing the artwork one can see the influence of what we now understand to be art form,
through the numerous art elements the painting of Queen Nefertari and Isis has. Starting with lines,
the artist uses many types of both regular and irregular, to create the hieroglyphics and the shape of
the women along with what they wear. The ancient Egyptians liked to have things in order and
consistent. We see the proof for this behind their canon of proportions method. In order to make
complex figures easier to depict, the traditional style and trademark of ancient Egyptian
artworks show everything drawn or carved to be two dimensional in shape. However, they also
wanted to show the aspects they valued the most as a society. As stated in the film How Art
Made The World, in the case of the human body ancient Egyptian chose to show each body part
from its clearest angel; and as a result of a keeping the figures 2 D, the chest is shown straight on,
the face is shown in profile but the eyes were drawn straight on, the arms and hands can be

Case Study Mondelez International Strategy
Mondelez International Strategy Case Study
Mondelez International Inc. is a large manufacturer and marketing company with a variety of
beverage products and snack foods. The company came into existence in 2012 when Kraft Foods
Inc. went through a corporate restructuring in order to implement high growth global snacks.
(Gamble, 2016.) Nabisco, Oreo, Trident gum, and Oscar Mayer are a few brands that operate under
Mondelez Inc.
Corporate Strategy As I mentioned above, Mondelez was created to fit a need that Kraft Foods Inc.
had to increase their growth globally. Kraft Foods Inc. established their name in 2007 when they
broke apart from Altria Group. Kraft became the second largest processed food company in 2012
with annual revenues of more than $54 billion in 2012 (Gamble, 2016). However, significant
growth in the company was not much different from that in 2007 when they became independent.
It is the belief of the company s upper management and board that the reason for their stagnation
was due to the fact that their corporate strategy was not focused on the growth of the company.
This changed in 2012 when Kraft teamed up with Mondelez International Inc. Mondelez
International s strategy was directed at exploiting its powerful brands of snack foods across the
165 country markets where its products were sold. (Gamble, 2016) The company aimed to fulfill
their strategy by expanding the company s product line to include cookies, chocolates, candy, gum,

Analysis Of Annette Lareau s Unequal Childhoods
After reading Annette Lareau s book, Unequal Childhoods , I gain a better understanding of how
my childhood affected the person I am today and the person I will become. This book
categorizes Americans in classes of poor class, working class, and middle class; Lareau studies
multiple families in each of these classes, including different races. In the following essay, I will
apply the same concepts Lareau used in her book to my own life.
Daily Life My Mother, Dawn, grew up in a working class family with her parents separated and
trying to make ends meet with her Dad and two siblings. She graduated high school and went on to
work at McDonalds for a few years, before she got married. My father, Jerry, grew up poor
moving different houses every year with his mom, step dad, and five other siblings. His father
died when he was three and his step father died when he was about thirteen. Jerry dropped out of
high school without completing the ninth grade so he could work to provide for his mom and
other siblings. Dawn and Jerry married and had their first child in 1988, a daughter named
Brittany. In the same year my family moved into a predominantly white neighborhood in the
town of Okalona, right by the busy streets of Preston Highway and Outer Loop. The house is
brick and was built in the early 1940 s, it is two stories with four bedrooms and two baths, with
two garages, a swimming pool, and big back yard, the house sits on .94 acres of land. Jerry
worked as a painter in the union since he was 16 and always had the aspirations of owning his
own business. Dawn stayed home to care for the home and the children. Two years after Brittany
was born, they had another daughter named Ashley in January of 1990. At this point Jerry was
still working at the Union as a painter and was attempting to start his own painting business. In
1993, Jerry was contracted with a construction company building 20 new houses a year, this was
the start of his painting company. All through the 90 s and early 2000 s Jerry and his paint crew
were working seven days a week painting store after store and house after house. He had three
work vans and two nine man crews going non stop. This is what led the family s social class to

  • 2. Ojibwe Creation Myths A Whole New World Part A: Eternal inflation is an alternative theory of creation that is a modification of the Big Bang Theory. The earliest universe was expanding matter, and particles that were next to each other would routinely be sent whizzing away to the farthest reaches of their cosmological horizons. It is no longer like that, however, as the inflation stopped. The theory of eternal inflation is that the expansion did not stop all at once. Rather, little bubbles of space randomly stopped inflating, or fell onto trajectories that led to the end of their inflation. And, since the expansion is rapid, the inflating space creates more space than the bubbles that stop inflating lose so inflation never ends. The result is an ever expanding multiverse, which means not only is Earth not the center of the universe but our universe isn t the center of the universe. Part B: The Ojibwa are an Aboriginal people in Canada. The creation story of the Ojibwa starts with nothing except a dark void; however, although there was nothing, there was possibility. This means although there was nothing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both stories start with nothing, but from the nothingness the Ojibwa believe there is one all powerful being and the MДЃroi believe there are two. This is where the differences become more prominent, because the MДЃroi story depicts the beings as being almost human like: they give birth and have flaws, flaws which lead to eventual conflict. The Ojibwa, however, depict a being of unfathomable power and wisdom whose vision should be altered by no one. The real difference, however, is most prominent today. The first two beings of MДЃroi culture, Rangi and Papa, are not worshipped with the intensity that the Ojibwa allow Kitchi Manitou. The MДЃroi believe there were flaws and the offspring are the true creators of existence, while the Ojibwa believe everybody is still a part of Kitchi Manitou s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Now, to some people that may seem like a long time and they would be right fifteen years is a long time. Many things have changed over the years because of events that took place in the 90 s. The U.S. developed better security in cities because of events like the Oklahoma City Bombing. The American people learned not to trust everything the government says because of the Waco, Texas massacre. • 6. The Carolina Panthers Sports Team Analysis Banks, NASCAR, and Duke Energy; the city of Charlotte is well known for all of these qualities. However, one thing that always pales in comparison to these traits sports. Looking at cites like New York, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles all have successful sports teams, whether they be football, basketball, or baseball. Charlotte in recent years has seen flashes of success but has never seen a consistent winner like other large cities in the America. Since Charlotte established sports teams, they have suffered from years of mediocrity because of a lack of star talent. One reason Carolina Panthers are seen as mediocre in sports is because of the lack talented stars that they can build on. The Carolina Panthers had a couple of Pro Bowl caliber players over the years, like Julius Peppers and Steve Smith, but over time the Panthers rid themselves of both players. When both players left, many fans turned against the franchise and became fans of other teams. For example, Charlotte now became a conglomerate of NFL teams. I, personally, have seen many Cowboys, Redskins and Steelers fans in this cityalone than Panther fans, especially when Steve Smith fled the team in 2013 due to contract disputes.... But when the team owner moved the Hornets to New Orleans and the Bobcats came into town, many can tell you all hell was broken loose. The Bobcats made it to the playoffs once, and they were swept out by Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic. Over their tenure, they only had one all star who was slowly on the decline. • 7. Frederick Douglass s Influence On American Society Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey, or better known, Frederick Douglass was born in February 1818 to Harriet Bailey in Talbot County, Maryland. For a long time, Frederick did not know his birthdate or his family lineage and it haunted him till the day he died. Frederick Douglas family lineage reach as far back into the beginnings of America and maybe even further into American prehistory. Douglass was believed to have Native American blood in him. Just from the description of him, his broad forehead, heavy cheekbones, and yellow brown skin (Preston, pg.9) and his childhood master calling him little Indian boy (Preston, pg.9) made a lot of people assume that he was. Douglass once recalled about the time when a stranger on a Hudson River steamer who took me for one of the noble red men of the far West. ...Douglas replied that he was not an Indian but a Negro, he said the man turned away in disgust. (Preston, pg.9) Frederick Douglass was proud that he was a Negro even though he had no problems with Native Americans. Frederick Douglass passion for the abolition of slavery may be seen as arising from his early childhood experiences from his brief stay with his first slave master, Aaron Anthony. Before Living with Anthony, Douglass lived with his grandmother Betsey Bailey. Douglas did not know his maternal mother, Harriet Bailey, because due to her work with Anthony, she was not permitted to care for her own children. For instance, in the ancient time, it is because the dinosaurs had already deracinated so that other animals who survived evolve in order to comfort to the times. Among these animals, apes are a typical example of evolutionas they gradually develop to become todays human. Nonetheless, at present, it seems that it is not exceedingly easy to feel the existence of the phenomena of evolution. • 12. How Did The Right Of The Government Change The Power Of... The world is always changing, people, ideas, and new rules. The way people think and what they want in life change as they age and as new progress is made. Therefor, government should be changed when its ideals no longer aline with that of the peoples. The right of the government to rule over people should come from the people s approval. If people do not agree with their governmentthey have the right to change their government. This right has changed history all over the world. Without this right the power of the government may be in the hands of a single ruler or monarch who has no interest in their people s wants or needs, and when this power falls into the wrong hands the people of a country have the right to take this power away and end the trynary in their country and give power to a more well suited government.... The Declaration of Independence calls on this right when they broke away from England and formed their own government. Charles s belief of absolute power in a sole monarch was countered by Parliament, who won the war, wanting to rule over the English government. Giving Parliament the power to rule over the English government was a great change to how the country was ruled, and creating the Commonwealth of England. • 13. Ambiguity In Carmilla The quickest way of describing Carmilla is as a Victorian lesbian vampire novel. This tends to raise a couple eyebrows in the room, so let me take a deep breath and explain that Carmilla is a gothic novel written during the Victorian era that addresses issues like ambiguity, memory, transgressive sexuality, and gives insight into the tensions that existed between Catholicism and Protestantism, Ireland and England. At face value, the novel hardly makes any mention of the political and social turmoil that was present during the time. Carmilla is the frame tale of a young aristocrat, Laura, whose isolation is broken by the appearance of the titular character. Although Carmilla ends up staying with Laura by accident , Carmilla is really a century long dead vampire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I chose to set my Carmilla pictures against a similar background (of copper, however, and not of gold), because I wanted to invoke a sense of the numinous, of something that transcended time, space, and physical boundaries, just as Carmilla managed to transcend boundaries within the text. Yet at the same time, Carmilla is the living dead, and not an abstract philosophical poster child, so while the background and shape of the hands were left loose and undefined, I added shadows and dimension to the hand itself to evoke Carmilla s ties to the physical world. Finally, each picture is of two hands in various poses, and I sought to represent the reciprocal nature of Carmilla and Laura s relationship, as well as their ambiguous roles by making it unclear whose hand was whose. Each pose is ambiguous in the hands relationship to each other, and there is no clear aggressor or victim, Ireland or England, Protestant or Catholic, Laura or Carmilla. The reason that I am so attracted to this sprawling rabbit trail of a topic (and the reason why I would highly recommend everyone to pick up this novel for a try) is because of the ... • 14. The Fundamental Economic Principles Part 1 Scarcity When humans moved from hunter/gatherer societies to villages and then cities, a division of labor occurred. Some people became producers of food, some processors, some the ancillary goods and services that are necessary for humans to live together. They found that sometimes there was a surplus of goods, and sometimes a lack of goods. This lack of goods is called the scarcity principle, and it is the fundamental economic principle of needing (or wanting) goods in a world that has limited resources. It means that in society, there will almost always be situations in which there are insufficient resources to fulfill all human wants and needs. Of course this also implies that at any given time, not all individual or group goals can be provided, which results in tradeoffs and substitutions. If we think about scarcity as a principle, then the idea of having scarce resources becomes a fundamental principle of what we call economics really the science of the relationship between production, goods and services, and the amounts we have of each. In any given group (society) there are needs for resources. Resources are the way we make products or turn raw products into something useful (agriculture). Resources might be land, raw materials like ores, etc. Then human resources are necessary to turn these raw recourses into something useful; metal, flour from grain, wine or beer from grain as well, meat prepared for human consumption, etc. Often these particular ... Transforming into new people throughout his life, Bob Dylan reverted to the Bible and other religious findings in his songs. Dylan is able to reveal a fulfillment from spirituality as he perceives his music as a sacred landscape. Bob Dylanbrings up a theme of religion, referencing the book of Isaiah in his 1967 song All Along the Watchtower as he writes a story about two people at the watchtower, where the significance of life is found. Dylan went into a transformation after that accident that was seen in his music as well. He went from writing loud songs like Highway 61 and Blonde on Blond to the quieter songs of John Wesley Harding and Nashville Skyline. On any given day there are over 428,000 children in foster care and more than 20,000 kids age out of foster care with no permanent family; therefore, they are being left behind socially, educationally, mentally, and under developed for the real world. Foster care first started in the nineteen hundreds when Charles Loring Brace created the Children s Aid Society in New York. The Silent Way I.The Silent Way On the years of 1960s the Audiolingual Method was under a strong challenge in the form of the Cognitive Code and an educational trend known as Discovery Learning. These concepts most directly challenged the idea that language learning was all about mimicry and good habit formation. An emphasis on human cognition in language learning addressed issues such as learners being more responsible for their own learning formulating independent hypotheses about the rules of the target language and testing those hypotheses by applying them and realizing errors. When students create their own sets of meaningful language rules and concepts and then test them out, they are clearly learning through a discovery/exploratory ... Language learning is usually seen as a problem solving activity to be engaged in by the students both independently and as a group, and the teacher needs to stay out of the way in the process as much as possible. It has been stated that the Silent Way is also well known for its common use of small color rods of varying length (cuisenaire rods) and color coded word charts depicting pronunciation values, vocabulary and grammatical paradigms. It is a unique method and the first of its kind to really concentrate on cognitive principles in language learning. We can state that the benefits of this method are that the students arrive to produce independent and experimental language activities at the same time that develop their own interior criteria for the accuracy. For sure, the students would like this method. B.Background and Principles Caleb Gattegno, a mathematician and psychologist, developed the Silent Way approach. To give an exact description of how the lessons are structured is a little complicated. It has been found that Gattegno himself points out that it is not a structural or a linguistic or a direct (or any other) method of teaching languages. The Discovery and Observation of the Cosmic Microwave Background: Implications for Cosmology On a spring day in late May in 1964, the future of our understanding of the universe was greatly influenced, arguable on accident. Two radio astronomers discovered something unusual, not with their eyes, but with their ears. Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson essentially heard the buzz that the universe was echoing into their headphones, but they could not wrap their head around what it was. The two scientists were bewildered by the odd humming sound that was picked up by their labs horn antenna and they had no idea the significance of what they were listening to. They thought it must have been some sort of interference from a secondary source in or around their lab and antenna. They did everything in their power to eliminate anything that could possibly interfere with the radio signals that they were receiving; they went as far as getting rid of pigeons that had their nest on top of the astronomer s antenna. It was not until they successfully got rid of anything that could potentially explain this noise that they came to the exciting conclusion that what they stumbled upon must be big. With this knowledge in mind, the idea that something big was at their fingertips, they had a few questions on their mind that needed answering. In fact, it was found that the male which carried out more facial displays for longer was, on average, defined as the winner of a dyadic conflict. The average results seem to reinforce this hypothesis, although a few results went against it (e.g., the fish in tank 13), which might have been due to some limitations of the experiment. Nonetheless, in the natural environment of Betta splendens the results might have been different as many external factors might alter the outcome. In fact, in the natural environment aggression is mainly used in order to get mating opportunities as the dominant male is seen as persisting whilst the subordinate flees. This conveys genetic superiority to a potential female mate and therefore suggests that they are breeding fighting fish and will be the best fitted to defend the area around the nest (Doutrelanta C, McGregora PK, Oliveirab RF, 2001). Studies show that the agonistic behaviour of a Siamese fighting fish is influenced by the effect of an audience. With a female audience, males tend to show agonistic displays that are not so aggressive, as a recent study shows that females tend to prefer less aggressive individuals (Teresa L. Dzieweczynski, Alyssa M. Russell, Lindsay M. Forrette and Krystal L. Mannion, 2014). However, they tend to have more aggressive contact (e.g., biting) with their opponents in the presence of males, which eavesdrop on the display. Telemedicine will in some way hinder the face to face communication between the doctor and patient that is vital in reducing errors. Most patients have a better understanding of what is expected of them when it is communicated clearly and effectively by their physician. Communication is the process of understanding and having meaning (Du Pre, 2005.) and it is also the process of relaying information between people by the use of words, letters, symbols, or body language (Sallee Forrest, 2005,). In my opinion I feel that telemedicine will decrease the moral as far as the Dr. and Patients are concerned. Although telemedicine may decrease a portion of the healthcare cost by less visits to the doctor, it will lose the value and importance of actually sitting down and talking with your doctor and receiving that one on one face to face time. They should be individuals with whom readers can easily identify, and consequently should be painted with as much humanity as possible. Mr. Stevens, the protagonist of Kazuo Ishiguro s novel The Remains of the Day, is no exception. He is meant to be an incredibly human character, and consequently it makes sense that the reader should seek to define his flaws and limits, and whether or not he exhibits spiritual imprisonment , as Robert Stone terms it. Of course, it is necessary to identify exactly what spiritual imprisonment is. At its core, spiritual imprisonment can be defined as someone being restricted by someone or something else from pursuing what they value. The character of Stevens that Ishiguro draws in his short narrative, and the personal values that Stevens subtly exhibits, suggest that Stevens, while misguided in his values for a large portion of the book, is free to pursue those values, and consequently is not spiritually imprisoned. Before delving further into an analysis of Ishiguro s protagonist, it is absolutely necessary to identify exactly what Stevens values. He values and meditates on throughout the entirety of the novel dignity. They skitter through trees above heads, forage in trashcans, and chew through wires. Squirrels are so common the average person could easily overlook their importance. Squirrels have played a significant role in the evolution of seed defenses in pinetrees. The evolution of these seed defenses is frequently attributed to birds and other seed predators (Benkman 1994). The ever present unnoticed squirrel is actually uniquely designed to prey upon pines and pines in turn have developed traits to defend against them. Benkman et al discussed this in a paper on limber pine tree dispersal. Their study argues that while Clark s nutcracker may play an important role in seed dispersal squirrels were actually the most important seed predator. The study showed that the pine trees adaptations made to defend against squirrels decreased the efficiency of other seed predators. They set out to prove that squirrels were the apex seed predator (Benkman 1994 1). Writing is much more than it seems to be. Simply writing is not suffice in the understanding of the skillful process. I have come to realization that writing is just as critical as assembling a car. In the same sense, building a car is about precision and piecing many parts together for the overall outcome of a successful, running automobile. Even then, there may be room for improvements down the line, but in the meantime it is good to produce the best work possible. Writing can be just as critical because it involves a vast variety of things as well. There is more to take into account than simply typing or jotting down words. However, others execute investments based on the opposite taking place; they hope that the price of the security declines. These investors are practicing short selling. Numerous renowned examples of shortselling exist, one of which, the shorting of mortgage backed securities during the real estate bubble in 2008. A number of critics find short selling unethical while others feel it necessary to maintain a balance in the market. Mortgage bonds were a collection of thousands of home mortgages, purchased from lenders, and their associated income streams (monthly payment). To address the fact that some homeowners often refinance their debt when interest rates are low which prematurely pays off the debt, mortgage bonds were stacked into layers called tranches . The lowest tranche represented mortgages to be paid off early, and the highest layer was the last mortgages to be paid off. Then, in the 1990s, bonds were created consisting of subprime mortgages, which were higher risk mortgages with high interest rates, made to borrowers with lower credit levels. Essentially, banks were handing out mortgages like candy to consumers who were never going to be able to make the payments, but Wall Street kept buying and packaging the mortgages into bonds. Since these bonds were inherently riskier, one wonders why investors were still willing to buy. Investors, who look at ratings by agencies such as Moodys and Standard Poors, had no reason to believe these bonds were risky investments. Society makes it so easy to criticize others between all the tabloids and articles on social media. While criticizing others may be easy, we all know it is wrong. While the problem remains in our judgement of the people around us, the solution centers around tolerance and equality. Food stamps allow people to buy strictly food items without using their own money. The initial purpose of food stamps is simply to provide help for those families who qualify for the program. Although food stamps are meant to assist those in need, some individuals tend to abuse the system. That infuriates the taxpayers in the United States. While some may say it is necessary to create an elected senate, there are other options to give the Senate more legitimacy. Just because a body is appointed does not mean it cannot have a measure of popular support. Take for instance the Supreme Court of Canada, which is an appointed body that is wildly respected, and the reason they are respected are because they are professionals who perform a crucial role in society. A better class of senate could be achieved by changing the process to appoint senators by cutting down on patronage and partisan appointments to give it more legitimacy (Crowley Et al 2014, 13). In a similar vein of creating a senate that is not beholden to political parties, and their masters, making it a more independent body is to continue along the route that Primer JustinTrudeau started in 2014, by kicking out Liberal Senators from his caucus (Cudmore 2014). • 45. Factors That Affect Our Soil Quality And Increase Som Is... From a practical point of view, anionic polyacrylamide (PAM) has been commonly used as a soil conditioner to reduce erosion by clay flocculation and binding particles and stabilizing the outer aggregate surfaces. Moreover, PAM is highly resistant to microbial degradation, with a decomposition rate of в€ ј10% yr 1, which has led to its efficient use as a soilconditioner for long periods. Wu et al. (2012) revealed that PAM showed a minor effect on 14C allocation in plant parts and soil in a short term 14C labeling study. Except the observations of PAM biotransformation, little information is available on the PAM efficiency on the microbial activity in soils. In contrast, the agronomic benefits of biochar (BC) application to improve soil quality and increase SOM is growing. Applying BC improves the physicochemical properties of soil and maintains C and N sources, owing to a pronounced increase in plant growth and yield. Moreover, wood biochar decreased the soil bulk density and enlarged diameter of aggregates, thereby reducing soil loss. However, little is known about the effect of BC on soil microbial populations and activities. BC or PAM showed minor effect on the decomposition of SOM based on CO2 evolution because of the stability of these conditioners. • 46. Chlamydia, And, Etiology And Management Of Chlamydia Abstract: Chlamydia is a very common sexually transmitted disease in the United States. It can infect both men and women. Chlamydia is treatable but if left untreated it can cause permanent damage in female reproductive system and in males the damage is rare. Sexually active females and males should be tested every year. This article will review the epidemiology, clinical features, diagnosis, etiology and management of Chlamydia. Introduction: Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common bacteria that cause sexual transmitted genital infections. C. trachomatis is a small gram negative bacterium. It is the most common cause of urethritis in men and cervicitis in females. Many patients are asymptomatic and thus provide an ongoing reservoir for infection. It allows ongoing transmission and allows silent disease. C.trachomatis infection can cause the scarring of the Fallopian tubes, ovaries, and endometrial lining. It results in an increase risk of future ectopic pregnancy and tubal infertility. Thus this bacterium is estimated to be the most costly sexually transmitted infection. Epidemiology: More than 2 4 million cases of Chlamydia are reported every year. The infection mostly occurs in females, age 15 24 years. Women are most likely to get a Chlamydial genitourinary infection and are most likely to be asymptomatic than men. Women develop long term complications such as pelvic inflammatory disease and infertility. The prevalence of Chlamydia has been reported to be as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Annette Lareau s Unequal Childhoods After reading Annette Lareau s book, Unequal Childhoods , I gain a better understanding of how my childhood affected the person I am today and the person I will become. This book categorizes Americans in classes of poor class, working class, and middle class; Lareau studies multiple families in each of these classes, including different races. In the following essay, I will apply the same concepts Lareau used in her book to my own life. Daily Life My Mother, Dawn, grew up in a working class family with her parents separated and trying to make ends meet with her Dad and two siblings. She graduated high school and went on to work at McDonalds for a few years, before she got married. My father, Jerry, grew up poor moving different houses every year with his mom, step dad, and five other siblings. His father died when he was three and his step father died when he was about thirteen. Jerry dropped out of high school without completing the ninth grade so he could work to provide for his mom and other siblings. Dawn and Jerry married and had their first child in 1988, a daughter named Brittany. In the same year my family moved into a predominantly white neighborhood in the town of Okalona, right by the busy streets of Preston Highway and Outer Loop. The house is brick and was built in the early 1940 s, it is two stories with four bedrooms and two baths, with two garages, a swimming pool, and big back yard, the house sits on .94 acres of land. Two years after Brittany was born, they had another daughter named Ashley in January of 1990. At this point Jerry was still working at the Union as a painter and was attempting to start his own painting business. In 1993, Jerry was contracted with a construction company building 20 new houses a year, this was the start of his painting company.
