Coming Of Age In Mississippi Thesis
The book Coming of Age In Mississippi tells a poignant story of Anne Moody s life experience
while growing up in rural Mississippi. Although Anne grew up poor, she had grit and
determination. Anne s father Fred Diddly and mother Toosweet were together up until their third
child was conceived. From Fred, Anne s mother had Anne (Essie Mae), Adline, and Junior. After
Fred and Toosweet broke up Anne s mother had four more children from Raymond, her second
husband. From Raymond, James, Virginia (Jennie Ann), Raymond Jr., and Ralph were born. Anne
grew close to a few people like her Uncle Ed and Mrs. Ola, during her childhood. As a young child,
Anne grew up not knowing the difference people made between blacks and whites. She had

They lived in a shack with one room and a kitchen. Their daily diet consisted of dried beans and
biscuits because they couldn t afford meat. When Anne started school her mother could not
afford to buy clothes so Anne wore the same outfits 2 3 times a week. As Anne grew up she
wanted to help relieve some of the family s financial burdens so she got small jobs to help out.
Soon Anne was making as much as her mother. One summer Raymond bought land, a mule and
plow and planted cotton. Anne, Adline, Raymond, and Darlene, and Alberta all worked the land.
In the end the cotton didn t yield much profit. Anne also struggled to pay dues and fee, and even

Hepatitis Research Paper
Blood borne viral infections can be very dangerous, even deadly, if contacted. One of these viral
infections is known as hepatitis. Hepatitis, or simply hep, is a disease caused by the inflation of
the liver due to the infection of a virus. Today s medical technology has helped us identify five
different types of hepatitis, though there may be more. The most common types are Hepatitis A,
B, and C. Hepatitis A is both the least common and the least dangerous of these three forms. In
fact, most people fully recover and won t have any permanent damage, and it is rarely fatal. It is
spread through sexual contact or the ingestion of fecal matter, which may seem rare; however, even
microscopic amounts can cause the disease. The symptoms include

Personal Narrative-Damn Center
Just about enough. I ve had just about enough of this place and simply cannot take it any longer.
I look around me and see gray walls of concrete covering the entire perimeter of the room. An
iron wired bunk bed occupies the far left corner of the room with one white pillow and a white
blanket on the top bunk. On the top right of the wall is a window. It s the only light aside from
the brightness of the white linens; the only connection to the outside world. I would try to use
the window to escape, but they put up bars to prevent that from happening. Again. Right now, I
am sitting at the cemented bench by the wooden door across from the bed, staring at the wall.
The room in general is cold, damp, and dark. Aside from that, I just cannot take it any longer, but,
honestly, what can I do? I have tried to cut off the bars with my knives, which I snuck out of mess
hall, only to have them used against me, and then taken away. Once I even tried dressing up as one
of the guards, but I was caught and the result...was not at all a pretty sight.... Show more content on

The Misconceptions Of The Vikings During The Medieval Era
During the medieval era the Vikings were known as the most brutal solider. No country or army
dared to fight against some of the smartest fighters of all time. These men were not just great
fighters, they were the leading innovators of their time when it came to creating weapons. Many
kings or emperors hired the Vikings to be the bodyguards that would protect them or to fight for
them in war. These men were not only brutal, but smart compared to the misconception that follows
them around. The Vikings are discussed more than in any solider when it comes to medieval
warriors. The Vikings originated from the three countries of Scandinavia. These three countries are
Denmark, Sweden and Norway. They are known for being home to some of the most feared
warriors in history. They got their name from a language called Old... Show more content on

This time period is commonly known as the Viking Ageof Scandinavian history. A Viking s most
treasured weapon was his sword. They were handed down generations because of inheritance,
they were often named and could be inscribed with writings by talented blacksmiths to magically
increase their powers. The Vikings had no professional standing army and tactics and discipline
seemed to have little to no development. They did not fight in regular formations. Aspiring
warriors wanted armed service so they fought next to famous fighters in order to be rewarded
with weapons and fame of their own. The houses the Vikings lived in were made out of wattle
which is sticks. Many people believe the Scandinavian people were big and muscular, but that was
not the case. Due to the short summer seasons, growing crops was difficult and resources were
always scarce. As a result, many of the Scandinavian people were much smaller than commonly
depicted due to limited food sources. The Vikings were a special culture compared to many others

What are your perceptions on the universal declaration of human rights would you like to amend
any of the articles or add a new article to the declaration?
In: International Laws [Edit categories]
Answer:
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is half a century old, but critics are still asking
whether anything in our multicultural, diverse world can be truly universal.
Some ask, isn t human rights an essentially Western concept, ignoring the very different cultural,
economic and political realities of the South? Can the values of the consumer society be applied to
societies that have nothing to consume? Isn t talking about universal rights rather like saying that

Culture is too often cited as a defence against human rights by authoritarians who crush culture
domestically when it suits them. In any case, which country can truly claim to be following its
traditional culture in a pure form? None have remained in a pristine state; all have been subject to
change and distortion by external influence, both as a result of colonialism and through
participation in modern inter state relations. You cannot follow the model of a modern nation state
cutting across tribal boundaries and conventions, and then argue that tribal traditions should be
applied to judge the human rights conduct of that modern state.
There is nothing sacrosanct about culture anyway. Culture is constantly evolving in any living
society, responding to both internal and external stimuli, and there is much in every culture that
societies quite naturally outgrow and reject. Are we, as Indians, obliged to defend, in the name of
our culture, the practices of sati or of untouchability? The fact that slavery was acceptable across
the world for at least two thousand years does not make it acceptable to us now.
The basic problem with cultural relativism is that it subsumes all members of a society under a
framework they may prefer to disavow. If dissenters within each culture are free to opt out and to
assert their individual rights for example, Muslim women in my country, India, have the

that everybody has to face. We all have been educated in different places and had different
influences that made of us the persons we are today. This different experiences we had gave us
various references and codes. All these different codes leads to misunderstanding.
We identify two different ways of communication, verbal and non verbal communication.

Tang And Shang Dynasty
Every country can have several or a specific genre of music that symbolizes their culture and
background: whether it be complicated rhythms, conflicted dissonance in the melody, or a basic
harmony to back up the melody, it signifies the culture making their own music unique and
opposing from everyone else. For instance, China has an enormous range of musicgenres
developing throughout history to today; furthermore, with the aging dynasties starting from Xia,
Shang, Zhou, Tang, Song, to Ming and Qing, traditional Chinese music was a growing art form by
adding something new when entering into a new dynasty. The Xia dynasty, Shang dynasty, and

praised by the royals and upper class, while the lower class was left out because they were not
worthy enough so the lower class focused on folk songs about their daily lives.
Once I learned more about the Zhou dynasty music, I realized how old the common wind
instrument, the flute, really is and how hard it must have been to master a piece of bamboo
compared to the modern metal one now, it made me appreciate how far back history goes for that
instrument and how hard those musicians had it back then compared to now. This music
symbolizes nature and cosmology very clearly so it is effective in expressing nature and how the
world came about to others. I would definitely recommend this type of music if you need to study

How Music Changed My Life
How Music Changed My Life One of my earliest memories from my childhood involves music. I
was only five or six and me and my brother would be coming home from pre school and daycare.
My mom would ask us what we wanted to listen to and we would both yell back Our CD! My
mother would laugh and proceed to play a Beethoven CD she kept in the center console of the car.
This memoryhas stuck with me since I was a kid. It has played a major role in my development
and was the beginning of my growing passion for music. Since that memory many others
followed; all involving music and its impact on me. Particularly, is music s impact on me during
sports as a motivator. For example, one memory I have is from our most important competition
Cheersport. It was a three day competition in Atlanta, Georgia and we were all excited. At our
first practice the night before the actual completion, we were dropping stunts, bumping in to each
other during transitions, and our pyramid kept falling. We had lost our motivation for the next
day and we were crumbling as a team. The day of the competition was hectic and wasn t any
better than the previous night. We began fighting and blaming each other for why the pyramid
kept falling. However, when we stepped out onto the stage it all melted away. The bright lights
shined down on us as we lowered our heads and squeezed our hands to our sides. Then the music
began and we all forgot the fighting and instead worked together. The music seemed to have a

Common Ethical Dilemmas Faced in Nursing
Nursing can have its ups and its downs; however, most of its problems occur when nurses are
faced with ethical decisions. Pro Life vs. Pro Choice, Freedom vs. Control, Truth vs. Deception,
and Knowledge vs. personal beliefs are all part of the problem. We live in a world where there
seems to be contriversy about everything. Nursing is a very important field where there has to be
good communication and great care, any hiccups in this could affect the whole work place. So what
happens when you re a nurseand you are placed in a big ethical dielemma.
FINDINGS
Pro Life Vs. Pro Choice
According to Merriam Webster s dictionary, Pro Choice means Believing that pregnant women
should have to right to choose abortion (Pro Choice). The definition of Pro Life is opposed of
abortion (Pro Life). Both words begin quite the argument in today s society.
What is Pro Life and Pro Choice
Over the years many nurses, men and women, have come face to face with situations regarding
ethical dilemmas one of which being the ever so popular argument of Pro choice vs. Pro life.
Going into a job in health care you are going to see things that may not sit well with you and
many students going into the nursing field have gone in with the mind set of being pro choice. In
Jeff Lane Hensley s book, The Zero People He quotes a unnamed student who stated I was for
abortion but it wasn t until I saw a actual abortion that it changed my mind, several other nurses

Garner Down Syndrome
Kawanda Garner Down syndrome
Down syndrome is a condition in which a person has an extra chromosome. Chromosomes are
small packages of genes in the body that determine how a baby s body forms during pregnancy
and how the baby s body functions as it grows in the womb and after birth. (CDC, 2014) John
Langon Down first described Down s syndrome or Trisomy 21 in 1866. Trisomy 21 is caused by
a combination of birth defects when there is a nondisjunction or an error in cell division during
meiosis, resulting in a trisomy of chromosome 21. (Porth, 2011, p. 119) While the cause in
unknown, evidence from cytogenetic and epidemiologic studies supports the concept of multiple
causality. (Perry, 2010, p. 1183) Children with Trisomy 21 can be born... Show more content on

(Chang Kelly, 2007) According to the article published by Salimbene, (2000), children are highly
valued and welcomed in most Bosnian families. Culturally, Bosnian s hold Physician s to a
higher standard than nurses. They may request to hear a diagnoses or treatment options from the
physician rather than a nurse. Teaching may become difficult if a relationship is not formed. The
nurse should introduce themselves and state that the doctor has asked him/her to perform which
ever test or procedure it is that is needed. The purpose of the upcoming testing should be
explained thoroughly without going into the specific details about the procedure. (Salimbene,
2000) Bosnians prefer herbal or spiritual approaches to health care over western health care.
Language barriers may become an issue as well so an interpreter should be utilized as needed to
ensure information is passed along appropriately. It is critical to assess each patient individually
and not make cultural assumptions about a patient s beliefs or health practices. (Chang Kelly,
2007). Many factors affect this process of parental adaptation, for example, the nature and severity
of the child s conditions, preexisting family functioning level, cultural background, income level,
the availability of social support, and the attitude of healthcare providers, especially at the time of
diagnosis. (Choi, Lee Yoo, 2011, p. 113) Providing a calm

The Importance of Harry Hoveden in Making History Essay
The Importance of Harry Hoveden in Making History
In making history, Brian Friel uses Hugh O Neill to define the characters in the play, and the way
in which his actions affect them gives the audience some characteristics to decide on the personality
of particular characters.
Harry Hoveden is obviously an important character in the play because he plays a major part in the
play, and appears in most of the major scenes. It is also clear that he is important to O Neill
because he is often the one person he turns to in times of crisis.
Harry is presented as a very loyal and sober character by, he serves to balance out some of the
other characters almost like a buffer. His calm nature in times of distress or excitement ... Show

This calming and soothing effect also reflects on the audience because if he was not included, the
play would be a lot more negative and the audience would be more likely to feel insecure about the
flow of the play. His character contrasts so much with most of the other characters that it adds
diversity to making history. It makes some scenes more interesting because of the presence of this
calm and obviously intelligent character and his political soundness can mock characters like O
Donnell. When compared to characters like O Donnell
Harry is a very likeable character and appears as someone to be trusted and relied upon.
Brian Friel also uses him and his overwhelming loyalty towards O Neill to show a weakness in
O Neill s character. O Neill uses Harry to portray certain characters via contrast and particularly
O Neill by the way he treats Harry. It often appears that O Neill takes Harry for granted showing
another side to his character that can be thought of as weakness. Also the fact that whenever O
Neill puts Harry down he regrets it almost immediately shows that O Neill is insecure and
sometimes does not think before he speaks, so Brian Friel uses Harry to show a very important
side to O Neill that could have affected his judgment during the wars he fought and led.
Harry is also an expositional character, and Brian uses him to expose

However, 1st year survival in LVAD patient is higher than 85%. Unfortunately, 69.8% of the LVAD
patients get readmitted to hospital in first 6 months after the device implantation (Topkara et al.,
2010). LVAD patients live with this device as the last option unless they get new hearts
(Rowland et al., 2012). If the device malfunctions or stop their lives can end immediately
(Rowland et al., 2012). Therefore, the focus has to be on their follow up cares after they get
discharged from the hospital (Banbury et al., 2003). Literature reviews as well as hands on
experience support that APN directed care post discharge were able to reduce hospital
readmissions and increase the quality of life of HF patients (Takeda et al., 2012). The APN,
evidence based team, supports the LVAD patients by phone calls, home visits, frequent education
and 24 hour emergency hotline (Polisena et al., 2010). This type of care has been seen at many
facilities, including Hackensack University Medical center where I have encountered both pre and
post operative LVAD patients which have a extraordinary APN driven evidence base practice
approach to these patients.
Significance of the Problem

(Rowland et al., 2012). Also, 69.8% of the LVAD patients get readmitted to

Why Are Dental Implants Important
Dental implants are a very useful tool to combat a wide range of dental issues, such as bone
deterioration and loose dentures. Listed below are just two of the many reasons to consider dental
implants.
They Can Improve Your Dental Health
One of the primary reasons to consider implants is that they can improve your dental health. This
is because these implants can actually reduce a lot of the wear that your teeth may begin
experiencing once you have lost several of your teeth. When you lose one or more teeth, you are
most likely going to be favoring other areas of your mouth whenever you chew, which means that
the teeth in those areas are going to be working substantially harder and more often in order to help
you chew food.

All Quiet on the Western Front, the character, Paul Baumer, enters the war as an innocent person;
with no idea on the effects, it may have on him. In the beginning of the movie Paul is shown as an

was never going to be again. The second example is also shown in the same scene where he is
writing the letter to his mother. During that scene Paul s desk is scattered with past drawings he
had done. Those papers show that drawing is something he either wanted to do as he got older
or just something that he did during his past time. This example shows that Paul is no longer the
same, because during his time at the front Paul is only shown drawing twice. The last example
is at the end of the movie before Paul dies. Paul, who took the position as leader after Kat died,
was smoking a cigarette while checking on the other soldiers. This example is an obvious
change in Paul, who before had always politely declined the offer of a cigarette saying that he

How Technology Has Impacted Our Society
I.Introduction Technology and its constant advancements have integrated itself into every aspect of
our world. Music has now become a place for the facilitation of experiences through technology in
our society. However, the monetization of music through technology has created a far more
difficult experience for the fans of music in all genres. In reference to technology, the term
streaming is defined as playing continuously as data is sent to a computer over the Internet,
(Webster). The internet and its streaming capabilities is an amazing tool used to connect the fans,
almost instantly, to the music; however, it also puts the content at risk due to the possible
technological issues, exclusivity rights, and digital piracy. One of the biggest reasons why
technology has been impacted our society is because it has made itself useful in our daily lives.
Internet streaming technology has impacted our entertainment by delivering audio and video very
fast. So how does streaming work? Internet streaming technology is created through a

Martyrdom in Its Purest Form Essay example
What defines a martyr? Why is it that only few people are bestowed the honor of becoming a
martyr? A martyr is not only a person who suffers for a cause but who also loves that cause and
dies fighting for it. In the novel In the Time of the Butterflies, Julia Alvarez uses the character of
Minerva Mirabal to show what martyrdom is and that becoming a martyr is more difficult than
most think. Because of Minerva s involvement with the revolution, she has suffered the
repercussions of disobeying Trujillo and his infamous SIM; emotionally she is torn up. Then after
she suffers through as much as a person can bear, she is delivered the most severe punishment of
all, death. Minerva Mirabal proves what it is to be a martyr because... Show more content on

She is well on her way, thanks to Trujillo, who allowed her to go to university, but then is
stripped of that opportunity when Trujillo does not allow her to receive her practitioner s license.
Instead of fighting for it, Minerva lets it go, and although she is furious, she knows that this will
leave more time for the blossoming revolt. Minerva also gives up her potential love for LГo when
he announces he must leave the country. Minerva states that I was relieved that circumstances
would be resolving things between us, (Alvarez 86) saying that even thought she liked LГo very
much, and more could possibly happen between them, she knew it was a good thing that he was
leaving, so she could focus more on the impending revolution.
Because of the nearness of the revolution, Minvera knows that if she makes one wrong move or
cowards in the face of danger, her support from the people will weaken. No, Minerva must prove to
the whole of the Dominican Republic that she not is afraid of Trujillo. And she does prove this;
even in right up in the face of danger, Minerva stays brave for herself, her family and for her
country. Once the sisters have been released, they make a point of visiting their husbands in
prison regularly. Then, there is one day they plan to go visit, November 25, 1960, when all day
Minvera is advised against leaving the house. Minvera decides she must, for the people to know
that she is not afraid of

Analysis Of Alfie Kohn s The One-Sided Culture War Against...
As we all know mother does know best, yet in some cases mother can do more harm than good.
There is a big debate on how people are raising the newest generations and whether or not they are
properly being introduced into the realities of our society. Are children being spoiled too much or
not enough? This topic is thoroughly discussed by Alfie Kohnin his essay, The One sided Culture
War against Children and by Nick Gillespie within his essay, The Current State of Childhood: Is
Helicopter Parentingor Free Range Childhood Better for Kids? . Although Kohn offers valid
explanations, Gillespie does surpass Kohn s explanations; parents need to be less overbearing and
stop pampering their children.
Within Kohn s essay he responds to the accusations of selfishness and ungratefulness given to the
younger generations today. He finds it ridiculous at this point how stereotypical the beliefs of
older generations are about younger generations and their more liberal thinking, it s always the
same accusations again and again. Kids are always ungrateful and they never learn to appreciate
what life they have been given, is too overheard within this topic, they have become our society s
conventional wisdom about children...it will almost be from this direction . Kohn also says, that
too many always claim that discipline from the parents is too common, If the subject is discipline
(and limits imposed by parents), the writer will insist that kids today get too little . He states that
these claims are all misconceptions and both the child and the parent should not be at fault because
these myths are just not true, there is no evidence to show, what impact, if any, this practice has
on the kids . Statistical evidence also shows how these assertions are wrong by showing how all
articles that condemn young people are merely recycling the same information and, only 27
percent of educators in the sample report having seen many examples of overinvolved parenting ,
this is a very low number from a sample of families within school districts. Kohn demonstrates that
even educators who see the children year round don t see the common overbearing parent raising
their children to be narcissistic and egotistical adults.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of International Commercial...
5.1 Critical Analysis
International commercial arbitration has evolved, primarily, against the background of two
unifying international traditions: the private international legal tradition, directed at the
harmonization of laws; and the public international law tradition, committed to reducing global
barriers to trade. International Commercial arbitration is the most widely used tool for resolution of
trade or commercial disputes. The effort should be made to tackle the problems which will benefit
commercial transaction activities. Most of the domestic courts were very slow in dealing with
Arbitration cases. Therefore, parties now resort to Arbitration in order to avoid lengthy and
complex litigation procedure.
The Study findings revealed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A practical solution to avoid this issue is to include an Immunity Waiver Clause in the arbitration
agreement. States are generally not comfortable with this clause; however, this puts an obligation
on the state to not use this as a defence during enforcement of awards. Once any State agrees to
arbitration, it is an assumed principle that the State has waived its Sovereign Immunity. Under
International Conventions like New York Convention, if the state enters into an agreement, it is
treated as if the State has waived its Immunity and can be taken up as strong evidence against the
State. The situation is difficult as national courts (dealing with enforcement of awards) refuse to
build up special rules and regulations for the enforcement of arbitral awards and they are guided
by the principles applicable in judicial proceedings . Therefore it is probable on some occasions for
litigants to conquer the hindrance that are present while enforcing an award against

Industrial Disasters in Three Mile Island Unit 2 and...
Mistakes happen every day, and you have the privilege to learn from them or not. Some faults
can result to injures or even death. In the power world, incidents occur daily, whether they are
big or small. And it is very important for any power plant to correct their mistakes and prevent
them from happening in the future. As the industrial disasters occur in our world, the world
starts to develop regulations and policies that must be followed before performing a power
production plant. This essay is going to present two major accidents that happened in the world,
Three Mile Island Unit 2 and Chernobyl, and how we can learn from their mistakes. Three Mille
Island has two units, Unit one and Unit two. Unit one, owned and operated by Exelon, built in
Susquehanna River, intention of producing power for the local people. It became operational in
September 2, 1974. Three Mile Island Unit 2, owned by First Energy Company of Akron,
became an operational plant in 1978. Babcock and Wilcox designed both Unit one and two of
Three Mile Island, and build to be a pressurized water reactor. After the accident at Three Mile
Island Unit 2, the plant never opened back, even though no major injuries occurred. Three Mile
Island Unit 2, located near Harrisburg, PA, had an automatic shutdown, even though the plant s
efficiency level rated about 100 percent. On March 28, 1979, one of the reactor pumps, used to
supply cooling water, stopped operating, causing an automatic shutdown. This triggered an

Investigating Concepts Of A Digital Device Essay
The purpose of this assessment is to investigate concepts relating to a system that is used within a
digital device. For my assessment, I chose the A5158 model MP3 player that belongs to my dad.
The features of this device include:
High Contrast LCD Display, Resolution 96 x 32
Integrated Flash Memory
Plays MP3 and WMA Digital Music Files FM Radio
4GB Stores up to 1000 songs
USB 2.0 Hi Speed for fast file transfers
Key lock preventing accidental key presses
Integrated 100mAh Lithium rechargeable battery for up to 5 hours playback
Data Representation
In computer terms, a bit is a numeric value either a zero or a one that holds a single unit of digital
information. Bits are usually strung together in a sequence eight bits normally equals one byte. Bits
are used to write binary numbers, which can be used to store decimal numbers such as 244 or 93 as
patterns of ones and zeroes.
ASCII or American Standard Code for Information Interchange is a computer code that was
developed to allow computers to convert human text into bits that computers could understand. In
ASCII code, for example, the letter A is 65 a number that can then be converted into the binary
value 1000001.
In the 1960 s, the 7 bit ASCII table was first adopted. Within a 7 bit number, 128 different
characters can be stored English letters from A Z (upper and lower case), numeric digits from 0 9
and special characters such as !/*+. The eighth bit was used to detect transmission errors.

A Midsummer Night s Dream And A Doll s House
A Midsummer Night s Dream A Doll s House, written by William Shakespeare and Henrik Ibsen
respectively, are plays that have a varying number of themes. These two plays are centuries apart
yet, they share a strikingly similar approaches in regards to the themes that are scattered throughout
both plays. Such themes consists of loveand marriage, deceit and honesty and most noticeably the
relationship between men and women. Though they share many of the same thematic elements,
their stories are completely different from one another.
A Midsummer Night s Dream is a play about love. All of its action from the escapades of
Lysander, Demetrius, Hermia, and Helena in the forest, to the argument between Oberon and
Titania, to the play about two lovelorn youths that Bottom and his friends perform at Duke
Theseus s marriage to Hippolyta are motivated by love. But A Midsummer Night s Dream is not a
romance, in which the audience gets caught up in a passionate love affair between two characters.
It s a comedy, and because it s clear from the outset that it s a comedy and that all will turn out
happily, rather than try to overcome the audience with the exquisite and overwhelming passion of
love, A Midsummer Night s Dream invites the audience to laugh at the way the passion of love can
make people blind, foolish, inconstant, and desperate. At various times, the power and passion of
love threatens to destroy friendships, turn men against men and women against women, and through

Negative Theories Of Conspiracy Theories
For decades now, scholars have been trying to analyze conspiracy theories and their history and
influence on modern day society. Many academic scholars from various disciplines have dissected
the concept of conspiracy theories, and the different perspectives are essential for someone that is
interested in researching the theories themselves. Authors Cornel Zwierlein and Beatrice de Graaf
published the article Security and Conspiracy in Modern History, which focuses on the history
discipline of conspiracy theories. Brian L. Keeley, on the other hand, focuses on the philosophical
discipline when discussing conspiracy theories in his article, Of Conspiracy Theories. When
comparing evidence between the two articles, Graaf and Zwierlein do... Show more content on

Including those works provides the reader the ability to research the information themselves in
order to see if what is being discussed is true or not, which is beneficial because it provides
credibility to what the authors are saying within their article. The supporting evidence the authors
reference in this particular discussion of the unbalance security of the ancient Greeks is Professor
Joseph Roisman s The Rhetoric of Conspiracy in Ancient Athens. They use what he discusses in
this book, which is how conspiracies have effected ancient Athens, and incorporate it into their own
article. Referencing to his work shows the reader that the idea of conspiracy theories influencing
that epoch has come from other reliable, academic sources. When writing research articles or
essays, historians always make their various points, but make sure to back up those points with
historical facts and evidence in order to prove that what they are discussing correlates to historical
events. Graaf, et. al, follow through with this technique all throughout their article: they paraphrase
certain ideas from other sources and then expand on them in their own words. Backing up their
points with other works as evidence is extremely compelling and makes the article stronger because
it provides their points with credibility, and when they expand on the works, it shows the reader
that they understood the text well

Examples Of Microaggressions In Get Out
Microaggressions are now, more than ever, noticeable in the media. In the film, Get Out, director
Jordan Peele uses microaggressions to illustrate his message that racism requires action with the use
of discomforting methods, in the hopes of educating white people on their not so subtle racism.
Throughout the film he utilizes the Armitage family s microaggressions toward black peopleto
obtain the audience s attention. The specific audience he is targeting is white people, who are most
commonly guilty of microaggressions. He overuses examples of microaggressions to cause his
audience to feel awkward and uncomfortable, similar to how a black person may feel when faced
with the same remarks. For example, when Rose Armitage invites her black boyfriend Chris to
meet her family, he is bombarded with microaggressions upon his arrival. Her family appears to
overcompensate and try to relate to him in any way possible. Rose s father, Dean, is usually the
one who is making Chris feel uncomfortable. He not only constantly refers to Chris as My Man
throughout the movie, but also states I [Dean] would have voted for Obama a third time if I
[Dean] could (Peele). To a white person, her Dean s words would have gone unnoticed, but to a
black person it is painfully obvious that he is trying to seem relatable to Chris. Other members
of the family, such as Rose s brother Jeremy, also make Chris uncomfortable. He begins a
conversation with Chris about sports, which leads to him saying you [Chris] could be a beast
(Peele). It is evident that this makes Chris uncomfortable because he is being belittled for his
genetic makeup. Other characters in the movie are also guilty of using microaggressions, such as
Mr. Dray. While talking to Chris and Rose, he states that I [Mr.Dray] know Tiger (Peele). This is
a version of the classic statement I have black friends , which has been a recurrent
microaggressive phrase used by white people for decades. This statement is most often used when
white people are trying to disprove that they are racist. Strangely, the most blatant microaggressive
comment in the film came from an unnamed Asian man, who states Black is in fashion (Peele).
Since the Asian man is a fellow minority, it is strange

Examples Of Pathos By Cesar Chavez
I have found that words that are loaded with pathos and create a seductive euphoric are apt to
promote nonsense (Gunter Grass). Cesar Chavez proves that ethos and pathos can actually be very
effective in promoting their case. In an article he wrote, Chavez used the rhetorical strategies of
ethos and pathos to make his case and express his opinion about violence and nonviolence. Both of
these strategies proved to be very effective throughout his entire article.
Chavez s main rhetorical strategy was pathos. Pathos led to how the story impacted the reader s
beliefs; pathos is used to affect the feeling of the reader. It is effective because it allows the reader
to connect with what is being said. Chavez uses the pathos argument to show American s feelings,
the American people and people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ethos is also effective because it tells the reader what the right thing to do is. Most people will
do their best to follow in the pathway that is considered the right way. Chavez states, the burdens
of generations of poverty and powerlessness lie heavily in the fields of America. If we fail, there
are those who will see violence as the shortcut to change (Chavez). This is ethos because it is
saying we are who have to protect people from violence and if we fail, then it is our own fault.
This is hitting a reader s moral side to do the right thing, or believe the right thing. This is
effective because it works alongside the pathos being used. The pathos grabs the reader s
attention then the ethos takes that attention and tells you what to do and how. This is effective
because if the writer has their readers attention by use of ethos and pathos and can get them to
take the blame, they will be more likely to follow what is being said in order to redeem
themselves. This way of blaming the reader is especially effective because people naturally do not
like taking the blame and will take paths that allow them to escape this

Tanning Beds Should NOT Be Banned
As spring comes and school dances appear, many teenagers are on a mission to get a tan. Not by
being outside, but going sunless tanning through artificial UV radiation. Tanning beds are the first
thing that pops into a teenage girl s mind this time of year. No matter how bad they want to be tan
for an event or for their summer vacation, minors should not be allowed to go indoor tanning. The
risks are far too important just to get the perfect look. Artificial tanning can be extremely harmful
to the body, especially to younger people, and is just as unhealthy as smoking is to the body.
The biggest concern with tanning unnaturally is the negative effects it has on the body. When
tanning through a tanning bed the body is being exposed to several fluorescent lights that transmits
ultraviolet radiation to produce a fake tan. According to THE EDITORS, Last year a systematic
review and meta analysis of 88 studies concluded that the beds lead to over 10,000 new cases of
melanoma the deadliest form of skin cancer every year in the U.S., Australia and Europe and as
many as 450,000 cases of other skin cancers (par. 4). The number of those cancer cases is ... Show

The younger the body is, the more fragile it is. According to THE EDITORS, ...the earlier UV
damage begins, the more time it has to add up and get worse. People who begin tanning before
the age of 35 have a melanoma risk that is at least 60 percent greater than those who start after
that age (par. 5). The facts of how bad it is for the body and how much the risk is for younger
people should be more than enough to prevent it. Putting up label warnings and needing parental
consent is not sufficient to alert the problems with minors fake tanning. The health of the youth is
far more important than skintones (THE EDITORS par. 7 8). More should be done to make
teenagers and parents aware of the terrible effects sunless tanning

Premarital Sex And Its Effects
In a study conducted in the United States, 61 percent of men and 12 percent of women born
prior to 1910 admitted to having premarital sex; the gender disparity may have been caused by
cultural double standards regarding the admission of sexual activity. Starting in the 1920s, and
especially after World War II, premarital sex became more common; this was especially prevalent
among women. By the end of the 20th century, between 75 and 80 percent of Americans had sex
before the age of 19. During the colonial period, premarital sex was publicly frowned upon but
privately condoned to an extent. Even though premarital sex was somewhat condoned, having a
child outside of wedlock was not. If a pregnancy resulted from premarital sex, the young couple
were expected to marry. Beginning in the 1950s, as premarital sex became more common, the
stigma attached to it lessened for many people. Love began to become enough for a reason to
practice sex, instead of marriageor engagement in the eyes of many. The percentage of ever
married men and women who had premarital sex (20 44 years old) between 2006 and 2010 is
90.6% men and 86% women (www.cdc.gov). A new study of 38.000 Americans has found that 95%
had premarital sex (www.truthdig.com). Another statistic says that 3% of the US population,

It s been argued in the article that religion has been most used when people are denied the right to
directly express their own ethnic identity or have to accept an identity other than their own. Militant
Islam has become the dominant form of identification and main route of resistance to central
government authorities. For instance, Uighurs were Buddhists who converted to Islam. Due to the
fact that in the presence of Chinese (Khan) dominations they could not express their ethnic identity,
they chose Islam to symbolize and identify them.
Some chose rather unorthodox methods to express their identity and symbolization as a factor that
would assert their identity was indeed different from the previously discussed cases. For instance,
a group was formed under the name of Reebok Mafia , although they spoke the same language but
they would differ in terms of the place of residence and ethnicity. Thus, they chose to wear clothes
products of the Reebok Company to be identified. In some instances ethnic identity has been used
to pursue sexual gratification. In the case of Kirgizstan, it is legitimate for a man and women to
elope or men kidnap the woman in order to marry them, the specific term coined for this tradition is

Due to the distance from England and the room in the colonies, many religions were able to
establish themselves in America, colony by colony. For example, Anglicans, who conformed to the
Church of England, populated Virginia. Massachusetts was home to the Puritans. Pennsylvania was
full of Quakers. Baptists ruled in Rhode Island. And Roman Catholics found a haven in Maryland,
where they could establish themselves amid the other colonists protestant majority. Each of these
colonies maintained a distinct religious character and favored one religious denomination s power.
The American colonists saw the revolution not only as a war for political independence, but to
protect the religious diversity of the thirteen colonies. Put in other terms, it was a war for religious
independence and freedom. To sever ties with Mother England would be to ensure that the various
Christian denominations could co exist on the American continent. The conflict was, in part, a
conflict that pitted the various American religious denominations against the Church of England,
who wanted to impose a uniform, Anglican religion on the colonies.
Early Religious Persecution
The period after the Revolutionary War saw a lot of infighting between the various states and
Christian denominations. Virginia, which was home to the largest portion of Anglicans loyal to the
Church of England, was the scene of notorious acts

The Nsa Had Committed 2776 Violations

Final Rough Draft In 2012, people discovered that the NSA had committed 2,776 violations to the
law. The NSA was mainly spying on other countries while those other countries were spying on the
United States. The U.S. government tried to explain why they did those infractions with the excuse
that they were unintentional. The court ruled it as unconstitutional. As of now, the United States
has collected every single piece of data that has been placed on the world wide web and is stored
in a metadata machine. This means that anyone can have access to any piece of private information,
just by looking it up on the internet. The only ways to fix that is by either monetizing all data or
using a wrapper. The option of monetizing would people would surely benefit from this meanwhile,
the corporations and the government would significantly loose their power.
To begin, Jaron
Lanier, author of the article, How Should We Think about Privacy? and computer scientist at
Microsoft Research, states that people should be able to have complete control over their
personal information by monetizing it. This would lead up to being able to make profits out of
his/hers private data by selling it. If the government or a corporation wants to own someones
contact information, they would have to buy it off of the people at whatever price he/she puts on
it because monetizing would allow one to have full power over their own privacy. This is

Reintroduction of Wolves at Yellowstone Park Introduction While highly controversial, the
reintroduction of wolves in Yellowstone Park has provided many beneficial ecological changes to
the entire parks ecosystem. After a nearly 70 year absence, in January of 1995, 14 wolves from
separate packs were captured in the Canadian Rockies and transported to Yellowstone National
Park in the states of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho (Sanders par. 2). The CanisLupus or more

5). While in the acclimation pens the wolves were fed a diet of elk and other road kill with wolves
typically consuming 21 to 32 pounds of meat in a single feeding. In March of 1995, three of the
packs were released in Yellowstone, but with one issue; the wolves refused to exit through the
gate because they had associated it with humans, forcing the park rangers to cut a hole in the
side of the enclosure for them to escape (Sanders par. 11). Once the wolves were released two of
the packs left the park and set up their territory leaving only one group initially setting up inside
the park. On May 3, 1995 female wolf number nine gave birth to eight puppies, the first wolves to
be born in the park in nearly 70 years. The mother and pups were recaptured and taken back to
the acclimation pen, until the pups were weaned (Sanders par. 15). The reason for this recapture
was because at this time, this wolf and her eight pups counted for almost 50% of the park s wolf
population. Since this time there have been no other human interventions preferring to let nature
take its course on the population. In 1996 1997 a second group of wolves was captured and
brought to Yellowstone for introduction via soft release with two more acclimation pens being
built, bringing the total to four. In the winter of 1997 1998 the reintroduction of wolves was
stopped due to the high success of the wolf packs breeding and the pups surviving on their own.

African American Chamber Of Commerce Case Study
New Plans Set for African American Business Organization Photo Credit: African American
Chamber of Commerce
Ossie Kendrix, the new president and CEO of Wisconsin s African American Chamber of
Commerce, is already mapping out his plans for the organization. One particular thing he wants to
implement is to transfer the location of the chamber from downtown to Lindsay Heights
particularly the Innovations and Wellness Commons.
He chose this location for its entrepreneur energy and feels that it is the perfect place to position the
chamber. The building and construction is set to start next year.
On January, he wants to develop a strategic planning session where his new board members can
start on building a new future and helping other members expand their businesses. One of their ...

The chamber plans to set up a new program next year to provide technical assistance to help the
growth of their members.
The capacity building program will create a hands on training for the first three quarters to one
year and then the members will receive follow up assistance later on. The program will only be
limited to five members to make the training more efficient, manageable, and cost effective.
Some of the other problems African American businesses face is the lack of investment from the
community who do not patronize their products and services. Another challenge for the business
community in Milwaukee is that the people are too conservative. The city needs to evolve as the
country s next go to city while the city is developing its infrastructure.
The chamber is also thinking of ways on how to elevate and promote the black businesses in
Milwaukee and expand it to neighboring cities. This will help grow the business and clientele of
African American companies.

The Impact Of Paul Gustave Dore s 1869 Oil On Canvas,...
Around two months ago, I posted an image of Paul Gustave Dore s 1869 oil on canvas,
Andromeda, to a large Internet forum called Reddit. If you re unfamiliar with the website Reddit ,
it is simply a site that is heavily run by the contribution of users, providing open discussions about
specific ideas and news. To my amazement, the post made it to the front page, receiving much
attention, but along with it came other ethical discussions that related to art as a general consensus
and how the idea of beauty has influenced current viewers with their expectations for museums and
galleries.
With comments on my post such as Actual art on [Reddit!?] and Art isn t art unless it s old it
was at this point that I became more aware of Thomas Horsfall s view of, what he put as, arts
bitterest enemies. To elaborate further, Horsfall suggested in his paper, Art in Large Towns... dated
1882, historical and modern art visually entices the average viewer and their knowledge about its
context, but people who only recognise a piece for its visual aesthetics have poor knowledge of the
true approach to art. So, do we, the viewers go to museums and galleries in hope of finding
beautiful imagery? Are we, as suggested by Horsfall, positively influenced on our ideas of beauty
and taste by our viewings?
Well, firstly... What is beauty? By Oxford dictionary s definition, beauty is defined by the
combination of qualities, such as shape, colour, or form, that pleases the aesthetic

China Research Paper
Since I am interested in China, I decided to find out a little more about it. One of the first things
I would like to find out is some basic information about the country. Another thing I would like to
find out is what happened in China s history. Furthermore, it would also be interesting to learn
about the country s current leader. In addition, I would like to find out about popular attractions
that are located in China. Finally, I want to learn about a famous person who was born in China.
Those are some of the things I hope to learn from doing this project. The first thing I wanted to
find out was some basic information about China. There was a lot of information about China.
First of all China s location is located in the eastern part of Asia. China s land area is pretty
massive. It s about 9,596,960 square kilometers, therefore that s enormous. China s population is
pretty considerable that they have a bigger population than us, but I still don t know if they eat
cats lol. There was a huge growth between 2000 and 2010, therefore there was about 0.9 percent.
China s population grew pretty huge in 2010, because the population grew to 1,392.5 million
people. In addition, China s climate is pretty averaged, therefore meaning its nice weather. The
language the population of China uses is Mandarin. That s basically the information for China. The
second thing I wanted to learn was what has happened in China s history. I discovered that in 2205

Nigerian Information, Communication And Technology
The Nigerian information, communication and technology (ICT) sector is a fast emerging sector
which has seen rapid growth since early 1990 s and information technology is a recent phenomenon
in Nigeria (Ogunsola Aboyade, 2005). However, the telecommunications arm of the sector dates
back to 1923 with the first trunk of telephone service (Ofulue, 1980). Prior to 1992, the legal
framework guiding the telecommunications and broadcasting in Nigeria was the promulgated

Essay On Irish Immigration
Just recently, over 4 million immigrants came to the United States from Europe. According to A
Library of Congress Book: Immigrants, By 1890, New York City alone will have twice as many
Irish as Dublin... and as many Germans as Hamburg. Over 75% of the immigrants are from Ireland
and Germany. Now, since it was obviously not a coincidence that 4 million people were added to
the United Statespopulation so quickly, you wonder what the reasons were behind their large
movement. The Irish had the motivation to move when, in the mid 1840s, a potato blight, caused
the famine. The late blight , which is, according to Britannica.com, a disease of potato and tomato
plants that is caused by the water mold, Phytophthora infestans, that occurs in humid... Show more

They viewed the United States by its offer of greater economic opportunity. They thrived for
more freedom from government control and left Germany to find that. Most of the German
immigrants came to mid western states and became farmers. Those who were not hired as
farmers were anything from tailors to servants to clerks to food merchant at Urban Centers. In
my opinion, our country is populated enough and we do not need people from other countries
joining in now. There is a reason that Germans are called Germans, and that Irish are called Irish.
It is because of the fact that being a German is because you are from Germany and same with
any other country. As long as we are staying in our country, why must others leave theirs? We are
called Americans because we are from America and everyone else gets their title because of their
nationality, place of birth, or simply where the family originated. This could also cause problems
for our country with a largely increasing population. If you think about it, you realize that if our
country doesn t change with the new population, folks may have to either build new homes or
move in with residents of the area. People have different ideas but this can seriously cause major
issues for our country. I am not sure that the United States would even be considered as our country

Essay on Physician-Assisted Suicide
Suicide is one person s personal decision; physician assisted suicide is a patient who is not
capable of carrying the task out themselves asking a physician for access to lethal medication.
What people may fail to see however is that the physician is not the only healthcare personnel
involved; it may include, but is not limited to, a physician, nurse, and pharmacist. This may conflict
with the healthcare worker s own morals and there are cases in which the patient suffers from
depression, or the patient is not receiving proper palliative care. Allowing physician assisted suicide
causes the physician to become entangled in an ethical and moral discrepancy and has too many
other issues surrounding it for it to be legal. Physician assisted... Show more content on

Physician assisted suicide was first made legal in the state of Oregon. (Hendin) In cases of
euthanasia, physicians often give lethal doses of a medication to terminate a patient s life because
they re experiencing intolerable pain. Patients who wish to use the Death with Dignity law in
Oregon must be eighteen or older, must be a resident of Oregon, and they must be able to make
their own health care decisions. (Sharp 53) However, the law does not require the patient to be in
unmanageable pain, they must just have a prognosis of less than six months to live. (Sharp 54)
This law seems to be in place to kill patients more quickly to open up hospital space, instead of
compassionately ending someone s suffering.
Oregon s physicians are required by law to recommend hospice and palliative care, but are often
not qualified, therefore only thirteen percent of dying patients get to hear their alternatives.
(Hendin) Oregon also does not require a psychiatric evaluation when a patient makes a request for
suicide. (Hendin) Studies have shown that 13 77% of patients who request assisted suicide are
suffering from depression; however, psychiatrists believe that depression is a normal response to a
severe illness. (Boyd) Also, patients who are aware they are going to receive a psychological
evaluation which may allow them to commit suicide may lie during the evaluation so that they
seem fine.

Analysis Of Bonaventure s The Journey Of The Mind
In Bonaventure s The Journey of the Mind to God, chapters 3 4 the author continues with the steps
in the Ascent to God by the consideration of God through his image that is imprinted on our
natural powers and by the consideration of God in his image reformed through the gifts of grace.
The third and fourth steps deal with the image of God in the mind. In the third step the soulis said to
be turning away from consideration of visible things to itself as the image of God. Through
memory, intelligence and the will as the three ways the soul uses to understand the three persons

finally, our intellect only then is able to grasp the meaning of an inference when it sees that the

Social Hierarchy Of The Vikings
social hierarchy: 1. social hierarchy the social hierarchy has 4 levels. the thralls, karls, jarls and
kings. social hierarchy is a kind of social differentiation that shows the groups of people in their
societies based upon their occupation and income, wealth and social status, or derived power. 2.
Kings The Vikings did not have a government. Instead, each village or town had its own king or
chief. The kings were the most powerful people in Viking society. Kings were not viewed as
sacred, or special. Instead, they were viewed as impressive men. A king was expected to be
generous not only with food and drink, but with clothes and weapons and gifts. He was
expected to maintain his followers honor against outsiders. He had to lead. He was required to
be a strong fighter, daring, crafty, and hard, since he fought hand to hand beside his men. He
had to be a good public speaker, cheerful and inspirational and able to inspire his men. 3. Jarls

slaves and employed vikings to work for them. The Jarls had many followers, treasure, ships, and
estates. 4. Karls The karls were everyday farmers, craftsmen, sailors, and warriors. The karls grew
oats, barley and wheat. The Karls grounded the grain to make flour, porridge and ale. Vikings grew

The Cultural Differences In The Canadian Society During...
There were three main groups that suffered and struggled through many obstacles and a lot of
people setting them back; women, First Nations people, and immigrants and minorities. This
prejudice caused a significant negative impact on the Canadian society during the 1920s. In the
roaring twenties, many people believed that only white men should be treated with any respect
because that was the status quo at the time. The status of women was improving as some women
got the right to vote, a woman was elected a member of parliament, and women were now legally
considered persons , but women were still treated horribly and with little respect or dignity. The
First Nationspeople as a whole were greatly mistreated because of the federal government and the
non first nations, Canadians believed that the First Nations people would be more content, giving
up their religion, heritage, and culture and become more mainstream Canadian Christian. In
addition, immigrants and minorities in Canadaduring this time also suffered greatly because of the
prejudice against them and the fact that the Canadian government frowned upon all immigration
that was not from another Commonwealth country, a European country, or did not involve white
Americans. First of all when women started to do the same thing men did that had much of the
Canadian population skeptical and afraid that these activities would make the women more
masculine and nobody wanted that to happen. Many spectators attended the game[New Glasgow
women s club defeated the GlacГ© Bay] out of curiosity to find out if the girls could keep house
and cook well enough to attract a husband (Winnick, 40). Of course Canadian society mocked
women who tried to step out of their comfort zones and try something new that could change the
way people viewed women. Their perception of women as helpless and comparing them to thieves
and minority groups rather than as equally intelligent and capable of the same things as the white
men if not more. The status quo influenced women to stay fit, healthy, and good looking. The
media made women think that the ideal body was thin and that they should be wearing a lot of
makeup, but no one wanted them to be more like men at the time; strong and a

The Comanche Campaign was a generalization of multiple battles and wars between the United
States government and the Comanche tribes. Most of the wars were fought between 1867 and 1875

in numerous expeditions until the Comanche people surrounded and surrendered. After peace was
established between the Natives and the United States, the Comanche people were relocated to a

things in common such as innocent deaths due to hate and the need for revenge.
The Salem Witch Trials occurred in January of 1692 and 1693 in Salem, Massachusetts(Salem

Hepatitis, or simply hep, is a disease caused by the inflation of the liver due to the infection of a virus. Today s medical technology has helped us identify five different types of hepatitis, though there may be more. The most common types are Hepatitis A, B, and C. Hepatitis A is both the least common and the least dangerous of these three forms. In fact, most people fully recover and won t have any permanent damage, and it is rarely fatal. • 5. Personal Narrative-Damn Center Just about enough. I ve had just about enough of this place and simply cannot take it any longer. I look around me and see gray walls of concrete covering the entire perimeter of the room. An iron wired bunk bed occupies the far left corner of the room with one white pillow and a white blanket on the top bunk. On the top right of the wall is a window. It s the only light aside from the brightness of the white linens; the only connection to the outside world. I would try to use the window to escape, but they put up bars to prevent that from happening. Again. Right now, I am sitting at the cemented bench by the wooden door across from the bed, staring at the wall. The room in general is cold, damp, and dark. Aside from that, I just cannot take it any longer, but, honestly, what can I do? I have tried to cut off the bars with my knives, which I snuck out of mess hall, only to have them used against me, and then taken away. Once I even tried dressing up as one of the guards, but I was caught and the result...was not at all a pretty sight.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What crap. • 7. The Misconceptions Of The Vikings During The Medieval Era During the medieval era the Vikings were known as the most brutal solider. No country or army dared to fight against some of the smartest fighters of all time. These men were not just great fighters, they were the leading innovators of their time when it came to creating weapons. Many kings or emperors hired the Vikings to be the bodyguards that would protect them or to fight for them in war. These men were not only brutal, but smart compared to the misconception that follows them around. The Vikings are discussed more than in any solider when it comes to medieval warriors. The Vikings originated from the three countries of Scandinavia. These three countries are Denmark, Sweden and Norway. They are known for being home to some of the most feared warriors in history. They got their name from a language called Old... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This time period is commonly known as the Viking Ageof Scandinavian history. A Viking s most treasured weapon was his sword. They were handed down generations because of inheritance, they were often named and could be inscribed with writings by talented blacksmiths to magically increase their powers. The Vikings had no professional standing army and tactics and discipline seemed to have little to no development. They did not fight in regular formations. Aspiring warriors wanted armed service so they fought next to famous fighters in order to be rewarded with weapons and fame of their own. The houses the Vikings lived in were made out of wattle which is sticks. Many people believe the Scandinavian people were big and muscular, but that was not the case. Due to the short summer seasons, growing crops was difficult and resources were always scarce. As a result, many of the Scandinavian people were much smaller than commonly depicted due to limited food sources. The Vikings were a special culture compared to many others before and after ... What are your perceptions on the universal declaration of human rights would you like to amend any of the articles or add a new article to the declaration? In: International Laws [Edit categories] Answer: The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is half a century old, but critics are still asking whether anything in our multicultural, diverse world can be truly universal. Some ask, isn t human rights an essentially Western concept, ignoring the very different cultural, economic and political realities of the South? Can the values of the consumer society be applied to societies that have nothing to consume? Isn t talking about universal rights rather like saying that the rich and the poor both have the same right to fly first class and to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Culture is too often cited as a defence against human rights by authoritarians who crush culture domestically when it suits them. In any case, which country can truly claim to be following its traditional culture in a pure form? None have remained in a pristine state; all have been subject to change and distortion by external influence, both as a result of colonialism and through participation in modern inter state relations. You cannot follow the model of a modern nation state cutting across tribal boundaries and conventions, and then argue that tribal traditions should be applied to judge the human rights conduct of that modern state. There is nothing sacrosanct about culture anyway. Culture is constantly evolving in any living society, responding to both internal and external stimuli, and there is much in every culture that societies quite naturally outgrow and reject. Are we, as Indians, obliged to defend, in the name of our culture, the practices of sati or of untouchability? The fact that slavery was acceptable across the world for at least two thousand years does not make it acceptable to us now. The basic problem with cultural relativism is that it subsumes all members of a society under a framework they may prefer to disavow. I was only five or six and me and my brother would be coming home from pre school and daycare. My mom would ask us what we wanted to listen to and we would both yell back Our CD! My mother would laugh and proceed to play a Beethoven CD she kept in the center console of the car. This memoryhas stuck with me since I was a kid. It has played a major role in my development and was the beginning of my growing passion for music. Since that memory many others followed; all involving music and its impact on me. Particularly, is music s impact on me during sports as a motivator. For example, one memory I have is from our most important competition Cheersport. It was a three day competition in Atlanta, Georgia and we were all excited. At our first practice the night before the actual completion, we were dropping stunts, bumping in to each other during transitions, and our pyramid kept falling. We had lost our motivation for the next day and we were crumbling as a team. The day of the competition was hectic and wasn t any better than the previous night. We began fighting and blaming each other for why the pyramid kept falling. However, when we stepped out onto the stage it all melted away. The bright lights shined down on us as we lowered our heads and squeezed our hands to our sides. Then the music began and we all forgot the fighting and instead worked together. Harry Hoveden is obviously an important character in the play because he plays a major part in the play, and appears in most of the major scenes. It makes some scenes more interesting because of the presence of this calm and obviously intelligent character and his political soundness can mock characters like O Donnell. Also the fact that whenever O Neill puts Harry down he regrets it almost immediately shows that O Neill is insecure and sometimes does not think before he speaks, so Brian Friel uses Harry to show a very important side to O Neill that could have affected his judgment during the wars he fought and led. Music has now become a place for the facilitation of experiences through technology in our society. However, the monetization of music through technology has created a far more difficult experience for the fans of music in all genres. In reference to technology, the term streaming is defined as playing continuously as data is sent to a computer over the Internet, (Webster). The internet and its streaming capabilities is an amazing tool used to connect the fans, almost instantly, to the music; however, it also puts the content at risk due to the possible technological issues, exclusivity rights, and digital piracy. One of the biggest reasons why technology has been impacted our society is because it has made itself useful in our daily lives. Internet streaming technology has impacted our entertainment by delivering audio and video very fast. So how does streaming work? Internet streaming technology is created through a collaboration of three components the server, data stream, and decoder. Servers are used to store information or data in its memory. When a consumer streams music online they are receiving cable or satellite signals from the server to their device. Next, once your data has received it has to be decoded back into audio and video. This continuous flow of information is known as streaming. II.Technological Issues According to Murphy s Law, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is a big debate on how people are raising the newest generations and whether or not they are properly being introduced into the realities of our society. Are children being spoiled too much or not enough? This topic is thoroughly discussed by Alfie Kohnin his essay, The One sided Culture War against Children and by Nick Gillespie within his essay, The Current State of Childhood: Is Helicopter Parentingor Free Range Childhood Better for Kids? . Although Kohn offers valid explanations, Gillespie does surpass Kohn s explanations; parents need to be less overbearing and stop pampering their children. Within Kohn s essay he responds to the accusations of selfishness and ungratefulness given to the younger generations today. He finds it ridiculous at this point how stereotypical the beliefs of older generations are about younger generations and their more liberal thinking, it s always the same accusations again and again. Kids are always ungrateful and they never learn to appreciate what life they have been given, is too overheard within this topic, they have become our society s conventional wisdom about children...it will almost be from this direction . Kohn also says, that too many always claim that discipline from the parents is too common, If the subject is discipline (and limits imposed by parents), the writer will insist that kids today get too little . He states that these claims are all misconceptions and both the child and the parent should not be at fault because these myths are just not true, there is no evidence to show, what impact, if any, this practice has on the kids . Statistical evidence also shows how these assertions are wrong by showing how all articles that condemn young people are merely recycling the same information and, only 27 percent of educators in the sample report having seen many examples of overinvolved parenting , this is a very low number from a sample of families within school districts. Kohn demonstrates that even educators who see the children year round don t see the common overbearing parent raising their children to be narcissistic and egotistical adults. ... • 30. Negative Theories Of Conspiracy Theories For decades now, scholars have been trying to analyze conspiracy theories and their history and influence on modern day society. Many academic scholars from various disciplines have dissected the concept of conspiracy theories, and the different perspectives are essential for someone that is interested in researching the theories themselves. Authors Cornel Zwierlein and Beatrice de Graaf published the article Security and Conspiracy in Modern History, which focuses on the history discipline of conspiracy theories. Brian L. Keeley, on the other hand, focuses on the philosophical discipline when discussing conspiracy theories in his article, Of Conspiracy Theories. When comparing evidence between the two articles, Graaf and Zwierlein do... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Including those works provides the reader the ability to research the information themselves in order to see if what is being discussed is true or not, which is beneficial because it provides credibility to what the authors are saying within their article. The supporting evidence the authors reference in this particular discussion of the unbalance security of the ancient Greeks is Professor Joseph Roisman s The Rhetoric of Conspiracy in Ancient Athens. They use what he discusses in this book, which is how conspiracies have effected ancient Athens, and incorporate it into their own article. Referencing to his work shows the reader that the idea of conspiracy theories influencing that epoch has come from other reliable, academic sources. When writing research articles or essays, historians always make their various points, but make sure to back up those points with historical facts and evidence in order to prove that what they are discussing correlates to historical events. Graaf, et. al, follow through with this technique all throughout their article: they paraphrase certain ideas from other sources and then expand on them in their own words. Backing up their points with other works as evidence is extremely compelling and makes the article stronger because it provides their points with credibility, and when they expand on the works, it shows the reader that they understood the text well ... • 32. Examples Of Microaggressions In Get Out Microaggressions are now, more than ever, noticeable in the media. In the film, Get Out, director Jordan Peele uses microaggressions to illustrate his message that racism requires action with the use of discomforting methods, in the hopes of educating white people on their not so subtle racism. Throughout the film he utilizes the Armitage family s microaggressions toward black peopleto obtain the audience s attention. The specific audience he is targeting is white people, who are most commonly guilty of microaggressions. He overuses examples of microaggressions to cause his audience to feel awkward and uncomfortable, similar to how a black person may feel when faced with the same remarks. For example, when Rose Armitage invites her black boyfriend Chris to meet her family, he is bombarded with microaggressions upon his arrival. Her family appears to overcompensate and try to relate to him in any way possible. Rose s father, Dean, is usually the one who is making Chris feel uncomfortable. He not only constantly refers to Chris as My Man throughout the movie, but also states I [Dean] would have voted for Obama a third time if I [Dean] could (Peele). To a white person, her Dean s words would have gone unnoticed, but to a black person it is painfully obvious that he is trying to seem relatable to Chris. Other members of the family, such as Rose s brother Jeremy, also make Chris uncomfortable. He begins a conversation with Chris about sports, which leads to him saying you [Chris] could be a beast (Peele). It is evident that this makes Chris uncomfortable because he is being belittled for his genetic makeup. Other characters in the movie are also guilty of using microaggressions, such as Mr. Dray. While talking to Chris and Rose, he states that I [Mr.Dray] know Tiger (Peele). This is a version of the classic statement I have black friends , which has been a recurrent microaggressive phrase used by white people for decades. This statement is most often used when white people are trying to disprove that they are racist. Strangely, the most blatant microaggressive comment in the film came from an unnamed Asian man, who states Black is in fashion (Peele). Since the Asian man is a fellow minority, it is strange ... • 34. Examples Of Pathos By Cesar Chavez I have found that words that are loaded with pathos and create a seductive euphoric are apt to promote nonsense (Gunter Grass). Cesar Chavez proves that ethos and pathos can actually be very effective in promoting their case. In an article he wrote, Chavez used the rhetorical strategies of ethos and pathos to make his case and express his opinion about violence and nonviolence. Both of these strategies proved to be very effective throughout his entire article. Chavez s main rhetorical strategy was pathos. This is ethos because it is saying we are who have to protect people from violence and if we fail, then it is our own fault. This is hitting a reader s moral side to do the right thing, or believe the right thing. This is effective because it works alongside the pathos being used. The pathos grabs the reader s attention then the ethos takes that attention and tells you what to do and how. This is effective because if the writer has their readers attention by use of ethos and pathos and can get them to take the blame, they will be more likely to follow what is being said in order to redeem themselves. Not by being outside, but going sunless tanning through artificial UV radiation. Tanning beds are the first thing that pops into a teenage girl s mind this time of year. No matter how bad they want to be tan for an event or for their summer vacation, minors should not be allowed to go indoor tanning. The risks are far too important just to get the perfect look. Artificial tanning can be extremely harmful to the body, especially to younger people, and is just as unhealthy as smoking is to the body. The biggest concern with tanning unnaturally is the negative effects it has on the body. When tanning through a tanning bed the body is being exposed to several fluorescent lights that transmits ultraviolet radiation to produce a fake tan. • 37. Premarital Sex And Its Effects In a study conducted in the United States, 61 percent of men and 12 percent of women born prior to 1910 admitted to having premarital sex; the gender disparity may have been caused by cultural double standards regarding the admission of sexual activity. Starting in the 1920s, and especially after World War II, premarital sex became more common; this was especially prevalent among women. By the end of the 20th century, between 75 and 80 percent of Americans had sex before the age of 19. During the colonial period, premarital sex was publicly frowned upon but privately condoned to an extent. Even though premarital sex was somewhat condoned, having a child outside of wedlock was not. If a pregnancy resulted from premarital sex, the young couple were expected to marry. Beginning in the 1950s, as premarital sex became more common, the stigma attached to it lessened for many people. Love began to become enough for a reason to practice sex, instead of marriageor engagement in the eyes of many. Due to the fact that in the presence of Chinese (Khan) dominations they could not express their ethnic identity, they chose Islam to symbolize and identify them. Once the wolves were released two of the packs left the park and set up their territory leaving only one group initially setting up inside the park. The reason for this recapture was because at this time, this wolf and her eight pups counted for almost 50% of the park s wolf population. Since this time there have been no other human interventions preferring to let nature take its course on the population. In 1996 1997 a second group of wolves was captured and brought to Yellowstone for introduction via soft release with two more acclimation pens being built, bringing the total to four. • 49. Essay On Irish Immigration Just recently, over 4 million immigrants came to the United States from Europe. According to A Library of Congress Book: Immigrants, By 1890, New York City alone will have twice as many Irish as Dublin... and as many Germans as Hamburg. Over 75% of the immigrants are from Ireland and Germany. Now, since it was obviously not a coincidence that 4 million people were added to the United Statespopulation so quickly, you wonder what the reasons were behind their large movement. The Irish had the motivation to move when, in the mid 1840s, a potato blight, caused the famine. The late blight , which is, according to Britannica.com, a disease of potato and tomato plants that is caused by the water mold, Phytophthora infestans, that occurs in humid... They thrived for more freedom from government control and left Germany to find that. Most of the German immigrants came to mid western states and became farmers. Those who were not hired as farmers were anything from tailors to servants to clerks to food merchant at Urban Centers. In my opinion, our country is populated enough and we do not need people from other countries joining in now. There is a reason that Germans are called Germans, and that Irish are called Irish. It is because of the fact that being a German is because you are from Germany and same with any other country. As long as we are staying in our country, why must others leave theirs? We are called Americans because we are from America and everyone else gets their title because of their nationality, place of birth, or simply where the family originated. This could also cause problems for our country with a largely increasing population. If you think about it, you realize that if our country doesn t change with the new population, folks may have to either build new homes or move in with residents of the area. People have different ideas but this can seriously cause major issues for our country. I am not sure that the United States would even be considered as our country ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Essay on Physician-Assisted Suicide Suicide is one person s personal decision; physician assisted suicide is a patient who is not capable of carrying the task out themselves asking a physician for access to lethal medication. What people may fail to see however is that the physician is not the only healthcare personnel involved; it may include, but is not limited to, a physician, nurse, and pharmacist. This may conflict with the healthcare worker s own morals and there are cases in which the patient suffers from depression, or the patient is not receiving proper palliative care. Allowing physician assisted suicide causes the physician to become entangled in an ethical and moral discrepancy and has too many other issues surrounding it for it to be legal. Physician assisted... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Physician assisted suicide was first made legal in the state of Oregon. (Hendin) In cases of euthanasia, physicians often give lethal doses of a medication to terminate a patient s life because they re experiencing intolerable pain. Patients who wish to use the Death with Dignity law in Oregon must be eighteen or older, must be a resident of Oregon, and they must be able to make their own health care decisions. (Sharp 53) However, the law does not require the patient to be in unmanageable pain, they must just have a prognosis of less than six months to live. (Sharp 54) This law seems to be in place to kill patients more quickly to open up hospital space, instead of compassionately ending someone s suffering. Oregon s physicians are required by law to recommend hospice and palliative care, but are often not qualified, therefore only thirteen percent of dying patients get to hear their alternatives. (Hendin) Oregon also does not require a psychiatric evaluation when a patient makes a request for suicide. (Hendin) Studies have shown that 13 77% of patients who request assisted suicide are suffering from depression; however, psychiatrists believe that depression is a normal response to a severe illness. (Boyd) Also, patients who are aware they are going to receive a psychological evaluation which may allow them to commit suicide may lie during the evaluation so that they seem fine. ... • 54. The Cultural Differences In The Canadian Society During... There were three main groups that suffered and struggled through many obstacles and a lot of people setting them back; women, First Nations people, and immigrants and minorities. This prejudice caused a significant negative impact on the Canadian society during the 1920s. In the roaring twenties, many people believed that only white men should be treated with any respect because that was the status quo at the time. The status of women was improving as some women got the right to vote, a woman was elected a member of parliament, and women were now legally considered persons , but women were still treated horribly and with little respect or dignity. The First Nationspeople as a whole were greatly mistreated because of the federal government and the non first nations, Canadians believed that the First Nations people would be more content, giving up their religion, heritage, and culture and become more mainstream Canadian Christian. In addition, immigrants and minorities in Canadaduring this time also suffered greatly because of the prejudice against them and the fact that the Canadian government frowned upon all immigration that was not from another Commonwealth country, a European country, or did not involve white Americans. First of all when women started to do the same thing men did that had much of the Canadian population skeptical and afraid that these activities would make the women more masculine and nobody wanted that to happen. Many spectators attended the game[New Glasgow women s club defeated the GlacГ© Bay] out of curiosity to find out if the girls could keep house and cook well enough to attract a husband (Winnick, 40). Of course Canadian society mocked women who tried to step out of their comfort zones and try something new that could change the way people viewed women. Their perception of women as helpless and comparing them to thieves and minority groups rather than as equally intelligent and capable of the same things as the white men if not more. The status quo influenced women to stay fit, healthy, and good looking. The media made women think that the ideal body was thin and that they should be wearing a lot of makeup, but no one wanted them to be more like men at the time; strong and a ...
