Jacob Riis Analysis
Jacob Riis was able to capture the living conditions in tenement houses in New York during the late
1800 s. Riis s ability to capture these images allowed him to reflect the moral environmentalist
approach discussed by Alexander von Hoffman in The Origins of American Housing Reform. The idea
that the mental and physical state of its inhabitants are directly correlated to the conditions found in
the residential districts. For example, the image entitled The Baby s Playground (Chen, 4), resonates
with Von Hoffman s description of the urban slum, a residential environment that degraded and
harmed the poor (Von Hoffman, 2). In the image an infant is seen isolated in a dark and ominous
hallway. Nearest to her vicinity there is the inhabitants

Space Telescope Research Paper
The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) was launched into low Earth orbit roughly 25 years ago to allow
scientists and astronomers to peer into space. Since that day, Hubble the largest and most versatile
space telescope has recorded some of the most detailed and awe inspiring images
(http://clapway.com/2015/08/27/hubble space telescope butterfly nebula123/), which have led to
several breakthroughs in astrophysics.
In line with its already established reputation, Hubble (http://hubblesite.org/the_telescope/) , along
with the Herschel (https://herschel.jpl.nasa.gov/) space telescope, was recently used to peer back in

However, only 49 percent of stars that exist in the Universe today are located in these disc shaped
galaxies, the remainder are located in oval shaped galaxies, it according to a statement from the
Cardiff University s School of Physics and Astronomy, whose astronomers led the study.
The results suggest a massive transformation in which disc shaped galaxies became oval shaped
galaxies.
To explain the change, scientists have come up with two possible hypotheses. The first attributes
theformatioan of the oval galaxies to the a merging event, in which two disc shaped clusters that
happen to move to close to each come together due to gravity. The other explanation relates to stars in
a round, lfat galazxy, migrate towards the core to produce the same rough oval.
This galatical shape shifting, as Discovery News states, has been theorized before. Steve Eales, The

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Pneumonia
Introduction: Pneumonia is the leading infectious cause of death in children and the fourth leading
cause of death in the elderly worldwide.1,2 Although pneumonia is a common disease, it rarely affects
healthy individuals. This condition affects people of all ages, however it is most dangerous in
immunocompromised individuals such as children, infants, and older adults.1 Other populations that
are vulnerable are those who are bedridden, inactive, or immobile; those with altered consciousness;
those who have difficulty swallowing; and those who have impaired cough reflexes.1 Risk factors for
pneumonia include cigarette smoking, acute respiratory infections, chronic bronchitis, uncontrolled
diabetes mellitus, uremia, dehydration, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pathophysiology: In a normal, healthy lung, air travels through a highway of airways, called
bronchioles, to eventually reach tiny air sacs, called alveoli, the site of gas exchange with the blood
capillaries.1 The right and left lungs are separated by fissures into lobes and are further divided into
segments and then into lobules, which contain the alveoli.1 In pneumonia, a common inflammatory
and infectious disease of the lung, fluid accumulates within the alveoli and/or the lobe, which reduces
the surface area exposed to air making it difficult to breath.3 Typically, the body is able to filter out
germs that invade the respiratory system by using defense mechanisms such as the immune system,
the structure of the nose and throat, coughing, and cilia; however, some germs are able to reach the
lungs to cause infection, especially in those who are immunocompromised.3 For example, someone
who is in a medically induced coma due to a stroke, is unable to cough, and as a result, the germs
remain in the airway. Once the germs enter the lungs, the immune system responds by attacking.3 This
causes the alveoli to inflame, turn red, and fill up with fluid and pus, which are the symptoms of
pneumonia.3 There are three common bacteria that cause pneumonia Streptococcus pneumonia,
Legionella pneumophilia, and Mycoplasma pneumonia.3 Streptococcus pneumoniae or pneumococcus
are the most common

Essay On Statutory Rape
Statutory rape refers to sexual relations involving someone below the age of consent. Also, people
below the age of consent cannot legally consent to have sex. Furthermore, statutory rape law is
intended to protect minors from engaging in behavior that is not forceful, but might be harmful for
them in the future. In the year 1996, federal welfare reform law that was created by some groups of
people with a common goal to assist in reducing adolescent pregnancy rate by introducing a law called
statutory rape, which is now been enforce on both state and local level. Nonetheless, this law differs
from state to state like Maryland, New York, and Los Vegas. First is Maryland, the age of consent is

Also, under 16 can have sex with a person for years older. On the other hands, it is illegal for a person
who is over 21 years old to have sex with under seventeen years person. Another name for statutory
rape in New York is 3rd degree rape which is a class E felony with up to four years in prison. New
York state has a statutory rape marital exception which means that a minor can marry an adult and
have sex with him or she. They also have Romeo and Juliet exception for consensual sex between
minor who is 15 or 16 and a person who is younger than 21 years. There is also a partial exception for
minor who is 11, 12, 13, or 14 years old with a person who is younger than 17. Third is Las Vegas, the
age of consent in Las Vegas and throughout Nevada is 16 years. In Las Vegas statutory rape law is also
known as strict liability crime which means that someone can be found guilty of this type of offense
even if he or she was genuinely unaware that the victim was under sixteen. In Las Vegas, a teacher
cannot engage in a sexual conduct with a student even if the teacher is twenty one or older, and the
student is sixteen or older, this crime is seen as category C felony and the punishment is spending one

Holmes is considered America s first serial killer. The number of victims is estimated to be 27, and
later discoveries of corpses revealed as many as 200. Holmes initially committed crimes such as fraud
and forgery. In 1893 he built a three story building and named it the castle as a hotel, drug store, and
commercial store fronts for the Chicago World s Fair. Holmes used the windowless hotel to lure his
victims in to torture and kill. He was arrested by Pinkertons for horse thieving in 1895. While the

During the construction of the Castle Holmes hired a carpenter named Benjamin Pitezal as his
assistant because Holmes deemed him to be unintelligent and easily manipulated due to alcoholism.
The victims Holmes prayed on were generally young single woman with no social ties. Holmes used a
variety of methods to kill the victims. After killing the individuals; Holmes stripped the corpses of
flesh and paid an individual to assemble the bones into skeleton models to sell to medical colleges for
money (Wilson Seaman, 2011). When Holmes failed to pay his debtors he and his assistant went on
the run. Holmes was arrested for fraud and bonded out, however while in his jail cell he bragged to
another inmate about the insurance fraud who would later reveal the crime and link to the serial killers
crimes. The pair moved state to state committing frauds and petty crimes. Holmes convinced Pitezal to
fake his own death so the two could collect on a $10,000.00 in another fraudulent life insurance
scheme (Schmid, 2006). Holmes turned on his assistant killing not only him, but three of his young
children as well. Pitezals wife alerted authorities to her missing children and husband, she was

A Clean, Well-Lighted Place. by Ernest Hemingway Essay
A Clean, Well Lighted Place reflect Hemingway s views on the loss of faith and hummanity in the
world. He wrote this short story after experiencing the horrors of World War I. Hemingway, like a lot
of other writers during his time, was forever affected by the war. His experiences left hime filled with
doubt. Hemingway constructed a story to express his emotions of emptiness and loss that he felt as a
result of the war. The story includes characters that serve as vessels for his own emotions. He
incorporates various literary techniques throughout his short story that emulate his feelings of
loneliness and loss of faith. The main characters in the story are constantly wrestling with the

For the older waitor and the old man, the cafe is their escape from nothingness. The cafe is vibrant and
clean, which has order and clarity. Darkness and chaos are associated with nothingness. The cafe
represents the polar opposite of darkness so it serves as a refuge for those who are trying to escape
emptiness and despair, namely the old man and the older waiter. The older waiter contrasts the cafe
with bars saying that bars are noisy, dark and unpolished (143). He complains that he can t sit at a bar
or even stand before a bar with dignity (144). The noisy unclean bars do not extinguish the despair
like the cafe does. Hemingway also incorporates a recurring motif of lonliness throughout the story.
The old man is deaf, and his wife has died. He is visibly lonely and frequents the cafe to escape or to
temporarily forget his lonliness. The older waiter never actually admits that he is lonely, but he is very
similar to the old man in that he likes to sit in cafes late at night (143 44). Both characters find solace
in sitting in the cafes because it provides an escaape for them. They are able to sit in a peaceful setting
which for them is better than being alone. The older waiter tells the younger one that the cafe provides
for all those [people] that need a light for the night (144). The older waiter realizes that the cafe gives

Major Types Of Social Structure Theories
In a narrative, I will compare and contrast the three major types of social structure theories, and the
three major types of social structure theories are social disorganization theory, strain theory, and
culture conflict theory. Also, I will, include the major principles for each perspective. In this I will
define social structure , and I will detail key points in each of these subjects. Introduction Social
order, and economics in society explains crime by reference to the Social Structure theory. This type of
theory makes important relationships among social institutions and recount the types of behavior that
differinate groups of people from certain Individuals. There are three major types of social structure
theories. The first theory is social disorganization, and this theory lack of alerting, not even
development of culture, social change, and conflict, This is the conditions that exist when faced with
these conditions. A sociological approach that propose a separation between socially and sub
culturally sanctioned goals and means as the source of criminal behavior, and this is the strain theory.
Culture conflict theory perspective on crime suggest that the main cause of being a criminal can be
found in a inconsistennse of values in the middle different socialized groups over what is acceptable .
These theory focus on the way in which society is organized. They are organise by their group, or
class. In comparison all of these theories believe that social structure in

Fallibility is Human and Necessary for Change Essay
There is not a single person who has avoided being wrong throughout his or her entire life, or maybe
even day. But also, nobody, or at least very few, accept fallibility as tolerable. Throughout history,
there have been people who refuse to be wrong, and it often has lead to despondency. Although
everyone wants to be right, fallibility is a necessary step to avoiding harm and improving the world.
Nobody wants to be wrong. It is associated with shame, stupidity, ignorance, indolence,
psychopathology, and moral degeneracy (Schulz). Also, as people, we revel in other s wrongness as
much as we do our own accuracy, which has created an environment in which being wrong is
unnerving to the point of a possible, legitimate fear. But not only is ... Show more content on

From this, he deduced that those who had the highest reputation were nearly the most deficient, while
those who were thought to be inferior were more knowledgeable (Plato 25). Now, to achieve this
society in which being wrong is accepted would require man to graciously accept the bespoken of one
s wrongs by another. This should occur naturally, because as Socrates recognizes, someone pointing
out somebody s wrong is the equivalent to that person saving him or her. On the contrary, a wrong
may not be wrong merely due to someone saying that such is the case. Often, something will be
viewed as wrong for being different from what is standard. Aside from all of this, Socrates believed in
highlighting justness rather than ever focusing on being right or being wrong. Knowing that wisdom
and being right are worthless is the somewhat paradoxical product of wisdom. Being right should not
be glorifying.

bravely do, showing immense trust and devotion as they are aware of that they could very well

Baby Driver Summary
In Baby Driver, the director Edgar Wright had the intention to show a most entertaining time. Edgar
Howard Wright is an English director, screenwriter, producer, and actor born in 1974. Wright has
never classified as one of those filmmakers who you would expect to follow along the lines of his past
work, which include his comical genre rethink zombie flick, Shaun of the Dead and the cop caper Hot
Fuzz . As a young teenager he started making short films with a Super 8 camera. Continuing his early
film career, after he won a Video 8 camera in a comic relief contest he decided he wanted to get into
the movies. A few movies and awards latter he now has the status of a top director in cinematic arts.
Well thought through, Wright remixes the movies and tunes that have influenced him, into the widely
joyous and fantastically entertaining Baby Driver. A genre ride with a rebuilt engine and a sick paint
job, Baby Driver shows movement and sometimes stillness. When you first see Baby that displays his
handle, which suits Mr. Elgort who plays Baby. With his angelic face and young man s lissomness he
has control in the driver s seat, where he belongs. This is how baby does things, with shifting gears,
pumping feet and thumping tunes, and how Mr. Wright rolls here as well. Excitingly the story
illustrates Baby getting in and out of trouble while discovering love and money. He does not have
much of an inner life, but he has skills, a heavy back story and a kindly foster

Federalist Paper No. 10 Summary
To solve the problem of republican government in a nation as geographically vast and culturally and
economically heterogeneous as the United States, the Federalists needed a political theory to combat
this problem. Madison felt that factions posed the greatest danger to governments of the people.
Through Federalist Paper No. 10, Madison described the effects and downsides to factions. In the
paper he explains, the causes of faction cannot be removed; and that relief is only to be sought in the
means of controlling its effects. Faction will counteract faction, and all of them will keep each other in
check. The more factions there are, the more competition there is to keep them in check. Madison
explained that there are two methods of curing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Madison explained that there are two methods of removing the causes of faction. First, by
destroying the liberty which is essential to its existence. Liberty is to faction, what air is to fire, an
ailment, without which it instantly expires, Madison stated. What Madison was trying to say is that
liberty and factions go hand in hand. Liberty promotes a faction to grow and get more powerful. In
this way, it is better to lessen liberty among individuals to provide for what is best for the overall
society. If people are not free to form and express their points of view, then factions could never take
hold.
Second, by giving to every citizen the same opinions, the same passions, and the same interests.
Madison defined faction as any group, majority or minority, within a society that promoted its own
self interest at the expense of the common good. Due to this, there needs to be a check on the
government. Sometimes public rights can harm the rights of an individual, and Madison wanted to

The Pros And Cons Of Fighting In National Hockey
What is the first image that comes to mind when you think of hockey? The Stanley cup? The average
amount of goals scored in a game? No, Most people think of fighting. Two people going at it, trying to
kill each other while on ice. There is a lot of controversy if this should stay in the game. I think
fighting should be allowed in the National Hockey League (NHL). Some of the reason why fighting
should be allowed in the National Hockey League are fighting could prevent other injuries.Fighting is
also used to protect amazing players that give a team an advantage. It gives other people who are
tough a job and a chance in the NHL.
To start off, Hockey is a very physical sport. But fighting has been in it forever. Fighting could
potentially prevent other injuries that could occur in a hockey game. Fighting in the NHL could
prevent other injuries because if there is not fighting and two payers are getting mad at eachother they
could hit each other harder and in ways that could hurt the other player. If there was fighting there
wouldn t be these injuries and players will not get hurt. Another reason why fighting could prevent
injuries is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fighting can be used to show how tough a team is. This will show that they are a good team they
wouldn t let any goals in during a power play for fighting witch is a 5 minute major. Another reason
how fighting could give people a job in the NHL is becauses because ther are some players who get in
the NHL because they can fight. Hockey is a tough sport it s a very physical sport and with that
fighting can occur in most circumstances. If a player on the opposing team decides to hurt one of the
maine players on the other team, that team will send out a player to fight this will give people a job
and a chance in the NHL. This also leads me in to my next reason on why fighting should stay in the

Examples Of Alienation In The Zoo Story
Gender, Sexuality and Power Relations in Edward Albee s The Zoo Story
The challenge of modernity is to live without illusions and without becoming disillusioned. (Antonio
Gramsci)
Abstract: Modern American Society was an assault equally on the integrity of an individual and the
social contract which sustains that individual in his relations with others resulting in alienation. But if
alienation erodes a sense of the real and breeds a mode of conformity as an apparent solution to the
problems of isolation, it also creates a sense of guilt, nebulous, unrelated, an acknowledgement of that
very failure of community and organic relationship which is itself the essence of alienation. In order to
create awareness and a sense of kinship amongst his fellow Americans, Albee says: Sometimes it s
necessary to go a long distance out of the way in order to come back a short distance correctly. (The
Zoo Story 12)
Keywords: Illusion, alienation, absurd, homosexuality, heterosexuality, power, gender, class
difference.
Introduction: With The Zoo Story, Albee is credited with changing the course of American Theatre
History. If Edward Albee had not existed he would most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

his moral and spiritual responsibility. As Jerry tells Peter: What were you trying to do? Make sense out
of things? Bring order? The old pigeonhole bit? (The Zoo Story 9)
The Zoo Story is concerned with Jerry s attempts to convert Peter to his new religion of Man. Jerry
uses many strategies to break his boredom and monotony and forcefully enters into conversation with
Peter who initially denies to communicate but gradually gets trapped into communication network
built by Jerry. Jerry gets Peter s attention when he mentions: I have been to the zoo.....

How Does Kromer Influence In Demian
The Foundation Of Childhood Life can be described as a skyscraper. When childhood morality builds
a strong foundation, one can reach great heights. However, when built with a weak, unstable
foundation, life s obstacles undermine the building, causing it to crumble to the ground. In the novel,
Demian, Hermann Hesse pursues the idea of how external influence from Emil Sinclair s peers, during
his childhood lead to his heretic belief in Abraxas. Through encounters with Kromer and Demian,
Sinclair s ethical spectrum shifts to the darker side of life, which he never confronts before, due to his
parents upbringing. Sinclair s abusive relationship with Kromer catalyzes his metamorphosis from
virtuous to villainous. Weak and vulnerable, he let[s] the devil take the hindmost (16). The devil
represents Kromer, tempting Sinclair to follow him on the Highway to Hell. Although Sinclair s ethics

Unlike Kromer, Demian influences Sinclair s beliefs with logic, and embodies a mentor and
companion. His words appeal to Sinclair, and comfort him during his troubling childhood. Demian

guardian angel, and trusts his perspective and viewpoint. As his name reflects from the ancient Greek
language, Demian tames Sinclair, molding him into an identical clay copy of himself. He saves
Sinclair from his oppressor, only to introduce his own influence. Like Kromer, he too though
differently... was a tempter 37). Demian tempts Sinclair down the Highway of Hell, but pretends they
are climbing the Stairway To Heaven. Demian does not explicitly manipulate Sinclair, but deceives
him, and is Satan disguised as a savior. His deception influences Sinclair s behavior and thoughts as a
child, luring him away from the realm of light and purity he was raised

Word Cult Research Paper
The definition of the word cult has completely reversed from its original meaning. How did the term
become such a widely debated slippery term? It has been a long road from its original meaning to its
current polar opposite, but it has been greatly prodded along by society s treatment of the term. The
common stereotype of cults as secretive member in black cloaks has been long propagated by various
mediums, leading to the contrast between common view and traditional definition. One of the main
offenders in the warping of the word cult has been its use in the media. most people get the majority of
their information about new or controversial religions through the media (Cowan). News has always
tended to focus on the negative things in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because different researchers use different definitions of the word cult, their conclusions can t be
compared to each other and can t be held as a standard to judge other groups by. Lalich says that cult
scholars are as the blind men examining the elephant : each with their own frame of reference and
own conclusions. The term cult as an analytic category, as researchers have attempted to use it, has
just as unclear parameters as when it is used to delineate dangerous groups. Often what some see as
only aspects of cults are used by others as definitive characteristics. Without a knowledge of specific
qualities, the results of each researcher are independent and unhelpful, and only contribute to the
confusion of the meaning of the term

Summary of Battle Royal by Ralph Ellison
Triumphing Over Challenges
The story Battle Royal , by Ralph Ellison is about a young black man who has to overcome racial
inequalities. The story opens with his grandfather dying words and leaving the family with words that
stick with the main character for life. The main character, whose name in not mentioned, is very
intelligent and because of this the prominent white businessmen ask him to give a speech at a hotel.
Upon his arrival, the white men put him through many humiliating acts for their enjoyment. There is a
boxing match and also an electric carpet, but the boy preservers through them all. At the end he is
finally given a chance to deliver his speech. Although the men are being inattentive, the

The young man does not know what is in store for him. He goes to the hotel ready to show his
dexterity, but is humiliated by having to participate in a battle royal, which is a boxing match between
multiple participants. Young men in the fight are blindfolded, I had no dignity. I stumbled about like a
baby or a drunken man (244). The boy shows great inner strength when he chooses to stay in the fight
for amusement of the white businessmen, which demonstrates his fulfillment to his grandfathers
words. If in fact he does get thrown out he many not have a chance to give his speech.
The second humiliating experience was after the battle royal match. Money is lying on an electrified
carpet, I lunged for a yellow coin lying on the blue design of the carpet, touching it and sending a
surprised shriek to join those rising around me. I tried frantically to remove my hand but could not let
go. A hot, violent force tore through my body, shaking me like a wet rat. The rug was electrified (246).
This quote demonstrates the amount of humiliation that the young man is put through, because of his
grandfathers dying words he counties to the end when he gives his speech.
The young man finally delivers his speech and shows great integrity while doing it. While giving his
speech the men are being very disrespectful by not listening. It almost seems as if he isn t even

Romanticism In The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
1. The strange weather This is an element of nature as often used in romanticism. The weather is being
personified, as the Mariner says: Again, nature is seen as a powerful and threatening thing. It s also
definitely a character in the story along with the Mariner and the other people on the ship. Nature is
kind of a person in this thing. 2. The albatross Where nature is described as a powerful an threatening
thing when talking about the weather the opposite happens for the albatross. The albatross is seen as a
good omen. When it appears the ship breaks free and things are looking up. For some inexplicable
reason though the Mariner decides to shoot the albatross, it is not explained in the poem why he
decides it is a good idea but it just sort of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s where the supernatural comes in. As the ship gets closer, they realize it s a ghost ship. This is a
clear element used in the horror genre, advocating the fact that The Rime of the ancient Mariner is
actually a gothic poem. 5. Spirits There s two spirits the Mariner hears arguing whilst he s in some sort
of trance. They argue about whether or not the Mariner deserves to be rescued and one of the spirits
remarks that: This later is confirmed by the Mariner when we learn why he bothered the wedding
guest that he told this tale to anyway: 4. High, even overwrought emotions The ship ends up near to
the equator and it gets becalmed there was no wind and they can t get anywhere. As they sit idly,
baking in the sun, we get those famous lines: Water, water, everywhere, Nor any drop to drink. They
are thirsty; they can t get anywhere. It really seems like they are in trouble, like it s not going to be
okay. They decide that the albatross was their good luck charm and the Mariner needs to be punished
for shooting it. So what they decide to do is literally hang the dead albatross around the Mariner s
neck and have him wander around like

an array of students dealing with anxiety, depression, stress, and substance use and abuse. In addition,
to working with this population across different college campuses, he also works with couples in
private practice. I conducted a 15 minute interview in which we had the opportunity to explore the
pros and cons about working with this specific population more in particular, in regards to alcohol use
and abuse.

working with college students for a few years now. It all began at a training site before getting

4. What is one of the main challenges when working with this population? Most of the people that
come in for help are very overwhelmed. This makes them flaky, they are late, and/or they miss a lot of
appointments. They also come up with excuses, not sure if this is logistical or if they get frightened in
session. I m not really sure what the answer to that is. This seems to be a common pattern across the
board.
5. What are some things you find rewarding when working with this population? For many of them,
they have never been in therapy before; it is like a whole new world for them. A lot of these people
have never asked for support. Just looking at them and seeing the hope that they have, when someone

What Are The Similarities Between North And South Korea
The two governmental structures that I have chosen to analyse are those of North and South Korea.
Despite being in very close quarters their governmental structures differ greatly. North Korea is a
Communist state with a one man dictatorship (CIA World Fact Book), South Korea on the other hand,
is a republic democracy (CIA World Fact Book).
North Korea is the subject of one supreme leader, Kim Jong un. The executive branch involves the
head of government, Premier PAK Pong Ju and vice premiers, and the cabinet also known as Naegak
both are elected by the Supreme People s Assembly (SPA) (CIA World Fact Book). The SPA is North
Korea s rubber stamp legislature , with 687 delegates (Inside North Korea s Supreme People s
Assembly, 2015 ), they come under the legislative branch and are also known as Ch oego Inmin
Hoeui. The Judicial branch is headed by The Supreme Court, here the judges are chosen by the SPA.
Despite this three way division of power, balance and checks have no meaning in North Korea a
country characterised by a one party dictatorship (Understanding North Korea, 2012). The North
Korean legal system involves a civil law system based on the Prussian model , inspired by Communist
legal theory. (CIA World Fact Book) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Jacob Riis Analysis Jacob Riis was able to capture the living conditions in tenement houses in New York during the late 1800 s. Riis s ability to capture these images allowed him to reflect the moral environmentalist approach discussed by Alexander von Hoffman in The Origins of American Housing Reform. The idea that the mental and physical state of its inhabitants are directly correlated to the conditions found in the residential districts. For example, the image entitled The Baby s Playground (Chen, 4), resonates with Von Hoffman s description of the urban slum, a residential environment that degraded and harmed the poor (Von Hoffman, 2). In the image an infant is seen isolated in a dark and ominous hallway. Nearest to her vicinity there is the inhabitants ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since that day, Hubble the largest and most versatile space telescope has recorded some of the most detailed and awe inspiring images (http://clapway.com/2015/08/27/hubble space telescope butterfly nebula123/), which have led to several breakthroughs in astrophysics. In line with its already established reputation, Hubble (http://hubblesite.org/the_telescope/) , along with the Herschel (https://herschel.jpl.nasa.gov/) space telescope, was recently used to peer back in time in order to provide astronomers with an idea of how galaxies within the vast expanse of the Universe have undergone dramatic trasnforsatioms over the last eight billion years ro so. ... However, only 49 percent of stars that exist in the Universe today are located in these disc shaped galaxies, the remainder are located in oval shaped galaxies, it according to a statement from the Cardiff University s School of Physics and Astronomy, whose astronomers led the study. The results suggest a massive transformation in which disc shaped galaxies became oval shaped galaxies. To explain the change, scientists have come up with two possible hypotheses. The first attributes theformatioan of the oval galaxies to the a merging event, in which two disc shaped clusters that happen to move to close to each come together due to gravity. The other explanation relates to stars in a round, lfat galazxy, migrate towards the core to produce the same rough oval. Symptoms And Symptoms Of Pneumonia Introduction: Pneumonia is the leading infectious cause of death in children and the fourth leading cause of death in the elderly worldwide.1,2 Although pneumonia is a common disease, it rarely affects healthy individuals. This condition affects people of all ages, however it is most dangerous in immunocompromised individuals such as children, infants, and older adults.1 Other populations that are vulnerable are those who are bedridden, inactive, or immobile; those with altered consciousness; those who have difficulty swallowing; and those who have impaired cough reflexes.1 Risk factors for pneumonia include cigarette smoking, acute respiratory infections, chronic bronchitis, uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, uremia, dehydration, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pathophysiology: In a normal, healthy lung, air travels through a highway of airways, called bronchioles, to eventually reach tiny air sacs, called alveoli, the site of gas exchange with the blood capillaries.1 The right and left lungs are separated by fissures into lobes and are further divided into segments and then into lobules, which contain the alveoli.1 In pneumonia, a common inflammatory and infectious disease of the lung, fluid accumulates within the alveoli and/or the lobe, which reduces the surface area exposed to air making it difficult to breath.3 Typically, the body is able to filter out germs that invade the respiratory system by using defense mechanisms such as the immune system, the structure of the nose and throat, coughing, and cilia; however, some germs are able to reach the lungs to cause infection, especially in those who are immunocompromised.3 For example, someone who is in a medically induced coma due to a stroke, is unable to cough, and as a result, the germs remain in the airway. Once the germs enter the lungs, the immune system responds by attacking.3 This causes the alveoli to inflame, turn red, and fill up with fluid and pus, which are the symptoms of pneumonia.3 There are three common bacteria that cause pneumonia Streptococcus pneumonia, Legionella pneumophilia, and Mycoplasma pneumonia.3 Streptococcus pneumoniae or pneumococcus are the most common ... For the older waitor and the old man, the cafe is their escape from nothingness. The cafe is vibrant and clean, which has order and clarity. Darkness and chaos are associated with nothingness. The cafe represents the polar opposite of darkness so it serves as a refuge for those who are trying to escape emptiness and despair, namely the old man and the older waiter. The older waiter contrasts the cafe with bars saying that bars are noisy, dark and unpolished (143). He complains that he can t sit at a bar or even stand before a bar with dignity (144). The noisy unclean bars do not extinguish the despair like the cafe does. Hemingway also incorporates a recurring motif of lonliness throughout the story. The old man is deaf, and his wife has died. He is visibly lonely and frequents the cafe to escape or to temporarily forget his lonliness. The older waiter never actually admits that he is lonely, but he is very similar to the old man in that he likes to sit in cafes late at night (143 44). Both characters find solace in sitting in the cafes because it provides an escaape for them. They are able to sit in a peaceful setting which for them is better than being alone. The older waiter tells the younger one that the cafe provides for all those [people] that need a light for the night (144). • 11. Fallibility is Human and Necessary for Change Essay There is not a single person who has avoided being wrong throughout his or her entire life, or maybe even day. But also, nobody, or at least very few, accept fallibility as tolerable. Throughout history, there have been people who refuse to be wrong, and it often has lead to despondency. Although everyone wants to be right, fallibility is a necessary step to avoiding harm and improving the world. Nobody wants to be wrong. It is associated with shame, stupidity, ignorance, indolence, psychopathology, and moral degeneracy (Schulz). From this, he deduced that those who had the highest reputation were nearly the most deficient, while those who were thought to be inferior were more knowledgeable (Plato 25). Now, to achieve this society in which being wrong is accepted would require man to graciously accept the bespoken of one s wrongs by another. This should occur naturally, because as Socrates recognizes, someone pointing out somebody s wrong is the equivalent to that person saving him or her. On the contrary, a wrong may not be wrong merely due to someone saying that such is the case. Often, something will be viewed as wrong for being different from what is standard. Aside from all of this, Socrates believed in highlighting justness rather than ever focusing on being right or being wrong. Knowing that wisdom and being right are worthless is the somewhat paradoxical product of wisdom. Being right should not be glorifying. *Insert Caesar Paragraph* Julius Caesar refused collaboration due to his belief in his infallibility, and it led to his murder. The noise of confusion overpowered the sound of raindrops that shattered on the tile roofs. People strolled out of their houses with curiosity about the commotion at the centre of the village. In the paper he explains, the causes of faction cannot be removed; and that relief is only to be sought in the means of controlling its effects. First, by destroying the liberty which is essential to its existence. Liberty is to faction, what air is to fire, an ailment, without which it instantly expires, Madison stated. In this way, it is better to lessen liberty among individuals to provide for what is best for the overall society. If people are not free to form and express their points of view, then factions could never take hold. Second, by giving to every citizen the same opinions, the same passions, and the same interests. Madison defined faction as any group, majority or minority, within a society that promoted its own self interest at the expense of the common good. Examples Of Alienation In The Zoo Story Gender, Sexuality and Power Relations in Edward Albee s The Zoo Story The challenge of modernity is to live without illusions and without becoming disillusioned. (Antonio Gramsci) Abstract: Modern American Society was an assault equally on the integrity of an individual and the social contract which sustains that individual in his relations with others resulting in alienation. But if alienation erodes a sense of the real and breeds a mode of conformity as an apparent solution to the problems of isolation, it also creates a sense of guilt, nebulous, unrelated, an acknowledgement of that very failure of community and organic relationship which is itself the essence of alienation.
