Symbolism In The Talented Mr. Ripley By Patricia Highsmith
The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith, set in 1950s in a somewhat vibrant, jazz influenced
Italy, gives a vivid insight into the mind of a small time conman turned psychopath. It also provides us
with the central concepts of amorality, paranoia and how that survival and greed for money can turn
almost ordinary people uncaring and self indulgent. Highsmith s use of third person narrative is an
effective technique and is used to expand on the thesis of morality in the novel . Tom Ripley, a man in
his mid 20 s, claims he is close friends with Richard Dickie Greenleaf, when in reality, he doesn t
really know Dickie at all. (3) Approached by the wealthy Herbert Greenleaf, Tom is asked to retrieve
his son, Dickie, from Italy. (3) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overall the themes and plots were similar, but there were additional characters and a different ending.
There were also small details that were changed, but overall I did not enjoy the movie as much I
thought I was going to after reading the book. In the same way that every mystery is exciting until you
find the logical explanation, the film is intriguing because you don t have the luxury of knowing Tom
s background, or why he covets Dickie s lifestyle. It was because of these changes, even though some
were minor that I did not enjoy the movie. I do understand though that in order to appeal to a more
broad audience the producers had to add and change details in order for it to be more appealing. The
differences did not make the movie unexciting, but the book is definitely better. The book provides a
more in depth profile analysis of the characters involved and especially puts a point on the three leads

Information on Laissez-faire and Court Injuction
1. Court Injuction
2. Laissez faire
Recording to the Union County College Laissez faire an economic and political doctrine that holds
that economies function most efficiently when unencumbered by government regulation. Laissez faire
advocates favor individual self interest and competition, and oppose the taxation and regulation of
commerce. Leave it alone The concept came from the economic theories of Adam Smith, the 18th
century Scot whose writings greatly influenced the growth of American capitalism. Smith believed
that private interests should have a free rein. As long as markets were free and competitive, he said,
the actions of private individuals, motivated by self interest, would work together for the greater good
of society. Smith did favor some forms of government intervention, mainly to establish the ground
rules for free enterprise. But it was his advocacy of laissez faire practices that earned him favor in
America, a country built on faith in the individual and distrust of authority. Laissez faire practices
have not prevented private interests from turning to the government for help on numerous occasions,
however. Railroad companies accepted grants of land and public subsidies in the 19th century.
Industries facing strong competition from abroad have long appealed for protections through trade
policy. American agriculture, almost totally in private hands, has benefited from government
assistance. Many other industries also have sought and received

How Did Marston Build The Water Tower
In 1895, they made a decision to build the water tower since there was a shortage of water and it
forced the classes to be cancelled. Anson Marston, the engineer who designed the First Water Tower
was head of Civil Engineering at ISU. The water tower was the first elevated steel water tower west of
the Mississippi. It stood 168 feet above campus. It was more than 30 feet tall and 20 feet in diameter
and held 160,000 gallons. The use of the water tower was discontinued in 1978, and the university
switched to the Ames city water system. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in
1981 and after seven years, it was restored. The American Water Works Association presented an
award to ISU in 2007, when the water tower was named Marston Water Tower and an American Water
Landmark. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay On Placement In A New School
Here I will discuss how I felt trying to fit into a new school district and what actions were taken by the
Administration. When Catholic School did not work out my parents once again found another school.
I transferred to the Brecksville Broadview Heights School District. While outwardly things appeared
better, they were not. A myriad of tests, followed by discussions with my parents led to yet another
solution; placement in a small group setting for English, Math, and Reading. Perhaps, I was unable to
learn in a regular classroom setting. Perhaps, a slower paced setting was needed. The new school
appeared to be the perfect fit. The teachers appeared friendly. My parents were assured that the district

We were singled out, cut from the pack and not allowed to be a part of the elite society. We struggled
through elementary and middle school. We forged our own path and maintained a small group of
friends, those who were also unlucky enough to be in small group settings.
In this section I will discuss how the school district made a determination about how best I would be
successful based on my history in school. As school progressed, I found myself in High School.
Through the IEP process, which was designed to leave no child behind , it was decided that what I
needed was vocational training. I had been programmed to feel I was different, and incapable of
learning, I felt I had no choice but to go along with the program. I needed to fit into society, I needed a
path and one was chosen for me. My counselor thought Culinary Arts would be my forte. Perhaps
being of Italian decent, he felt I would make a good chef. Once again, instead of addressing the real
issue, it was determined I would be unable to succeed in college. Vocational school was easier. I was
able to eliminate the problem of the language barrier, since vocational school focused on skills and not
academics. I graduated, and found myself left in the real world with no goals, and no career.
Finally I will discuss how these decisions affected me and what I am doing to change my path. After
High School, I made a decision that I did not want to become a chef. I wanted something different

Acadian Hermit Crabs Lab Report
Construction of each substrate: Rock Crevice: The rock crevice used four rocks to make a crevice
shape Rock Structure: The rock structure was made of three rocks, two rocks on the bottom level and
one resting on top of the others to make an overhang. Seaweed: Find a small bunch of Bladderwrack
Fucus seaweed and weigh it down with a small rock so it does not disturb the other substrates. Shells:
Collect periwinkles (both smooth and common), dogwhelks, and a mussel or clam to make up the
shell area. It is okay if the periwinkles and dogwhelks move, just make sure they do not obstruct the
test. The Actual Experiment: To begin the experiment, one must pick out one hermit crab at random
from the holding bucket. One person records the data about the species of each hermit crab, the
species of the shell it is dwelling in, and anything else of interest about the hermit crab itself regarding
its appearance. The recorder then must prepare the stopwatch, as the collector places a hermit crab into
the bucket ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, seeking out more Acadian hermit crabs, as we found that the lack of a near equal amount of the
two species skewed our data. In addition, more photo/video documentation would be helpful, as it

description. Importantly, look into the population diversity in the Hurricane Island tide pools
beforehand, so as to be aware of the apparent difference in hairy and Acadian populations. While
behavioral experiments do not directly benefit the short term population statistics that marine biology
generally focuses on, studying the behavior of hermit crabs is still important for the science.
Regarding the experiment and simulation, removing the rock structure and allowing for the crab to
have three tests would allow for extra data collection, albeit resulting in more

Expanding the FMLA in CAlifornia Essay
Problem Identification
Every day in California, working men and women face conflicts between their work responsibilities
and their families. In order to work they must make arrangements for their children and elderly family
members who need assistance. They address these conflicts through a variety of child care, after
school, and eldercare arrangements. But sometimes when a child is seriously ill, an aging parent s
health deteriorates suddenly, or a baby is born or adopted, these daily arrangements are no longer
adequate. At such times of family need, an employee simply must take time off from work because no
alternative care arrangements will do. That is why in 1993, Congress passed the Family and Medical
Leave Act (FMLA), which was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is why expanding the law to cover businesses with 25 49 employees would give 13 million more
Americans the right to take FMLA leave. The National Partnership for Women amp; Families has
analyzed the most recent available employment data to show what this expansion would mean for
California. If California were to somehow expand the FMLA coverage to businesses with 25 49
employees it would make the following differences.
Size of Employer (# of employees)
Private Sector 50+ 25 49 Total (25+)
# Employees covered 5,813,391 1,518,241 7,331,632
% Employees covered 55.5% 14.5% 70.0%
# Employers covered 37,145 50,109 87,254
% Employers covered 4.1% 5.5% 9.6%
If this proposition were to be made, California would rank 1st in the nation for the number of people
newly covered by the FMLA, giving 1,518,241 more people in California the right to take FMLA
leave. An additional 14.5% of California s private employees would be newly covered by the FMLA,
and 70% of all employees in California s private

Non Effective Followers And The Groups Of Followers,...
The four groups of followers operated as alienated followers, sheep, yes people, and survivors, all
lacking the key factor of being able to succeed without strong leadership. Sheep lack initiative and
sense of responsibility, while yes people refuse to be against the leader (Wren 195). Alienated
followers tend to think more independently but are prone to group think. They are normally
dissatisfied and/or resentful. Any of these three groups can at any time merge into the survivor group
because this group of followers operate under the slogan better safe than sorry (Wren 195). If a leader
is surrounded by these types of followers, it is more difficult for him to be a good leader. Also, if the
leader already retains personal motives, he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Transformational leadership is used by a leader to appeal to the moral values of followers in an
attempt to raise their consciousness about ethical issues and to mobilize their energy and resources to
reform institutions (Yukl Charismatic 261). Pseudotransformational leadership refers to
transformational leadership, but when the leader is self consumed, exploitive, power oriented, [and]
possess[es] warped values (Hinz). When a leader appeals to followers self interest and offers an
exchange of benefits, the leader is utilizing transactional leadership (Yukl Charismatic 261).
When first studying Jim Jones, one would think that he led through transformational leadership;
however, he actually leds through pseudotransformational leadership. Since Jones preached about
equality and accepting all men, his messages seemed consistent with ethical morals. He also formed a
lively church setting, where people would dance, jump, run around, yell, and scream. This stirred
emotions in most members and even visitors, and is often talked about in movies (McCloud). One
would think that people would be tired after all the commotion, but, on the contrary, people felt
revived and energized after services. Jones finally showed his true style when he moved part of his
congregation to Guyana. At this location, Jones

The Gnp Should Support A Second Independence Referendum
The GNP should support a second independence referendum in Glebeland because the call for a
second independence referendum would bring benefit to this country. Different from its name, the
United Kingdom, instead of using federalism, is a unitary state. Even though Glebeland has its own
culture and language, being a member country of the United Kingdom, it only enjoys limited power
delegated from the central government of the United Kingdom. Because of the diversity in culture,
Glebeland needs a higher level of decentralization. If this time the independence referendum would
succeed, the Glebeland would become an economically as well as politically independent entity and
could go back to the European Union as it wishes. If it would fail as ... Show more content on

Through this process with a slippery slope, Glebeland is able to gain more power than other member
countries. The continuous increase in power could prepare Glebeland s government to become an
independent government in the future.
The condition of Glebeland s power gaining process is similar to the condition of Scotland s, which
occupies 54 seats in the House of Commons. The legislative bargaining offers Scotland a chance to
continuously earn more power under the asymmetric power devolution of the United Kingdom.
Followed by the establishment of the Scottish parliament in 1977, the Scottish National Party (SNP)
became one of the largest parties in the UK in 1999, and then held power in the Scottish general
election in 2007. The power gaining process of Glebeland is parallel to the process of Scottish. Thus,
similar to the Scottish government, Glebeland s government is getting more prepared to lead an
independent nation. It is true that one cannot eliminate the possibility that the second independence
referendum would fail again. However, with the slippery slope of the power gaining process, this
second referendum could still help Glebeland s government bargain for more power with the central
government even if it turns out to have a No result. Consequently, it could ensure Glebeland a higher
degree of autonomous power.

1. Etiology Progressive systemic scleroderma is a disease in which the immune system begins to
attack the body. Suddenly the immune system starts to think that the healthy tissue in the body is
harmful and begins to destroy them. There are many different types of this disease and progressive
systemic scleroderma affects each person differently. It is considered an autoimmune disorder or

Treatment Because of the severity of this disease and the damage that it causes to so many areas of the
body, many treatments could be necessary to treat this disease. The patient may need a physiatrist, a
nutritionist, a gastroenterologist, an occupational therapist, a respiratory therapist, a speech therapist, a
social worker, a mental health professor, or a pastoral care provider. This all depends on the severity of
the case for the patient and what areas of the body need the most help. There are also many
medications that doctors prescribe for patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis which may include:
Riluzole, quinine bisulphate, nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs, and neurodex. There are also
several drugs that are undergoing testing to determine their help in the regulation of the symptoms of
amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
5. Prognosis As stated before, there is no cure for Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and it is a disease that
affects every patient so differently. There is a very short life expectancy for those who acquire this
disease lasting from only 2 to 5 years. Those who have this disease most likely die from respiratory
failure, which aggravated the disease beyond repair. By following the doctor s instructions and taking
medication regularly, the symptoms can be manageable and the life expectancy will be lived out to its

The demand for increase in healthcare professionals are increasing and the quality of care might get
compromised. The Christian worldview provides to prioritize an individual as a person and to heal
them not just medically but also spiritually through prayers. Healthcare needs to be provided with
compassion since Jesus himself mentioned as you did it to one of the least of my brothers, you did it to
me . Hence biblical worldview provides insights that Christians should be involved in providing high

Eyewitness Testimony Essay
The Accuracy of Eyewitness Testimony is a major topic in our society. Eyewitness Testimony is often
used during crime scene investigations. Although a Testimony by a bystander or a victim regarding an
incident is a great tool for further investigation, testimonies are often times false and can lead to false
accusations. The research question, how accurate is eyewitness testimony, will be studied. The
purpose for this project is to determine the accuracy of eyewitness testimony. The hypothesis, High

no more than 25% accuracy in their recall of the events, will be tested. There is an abundant amount of

It is very important to address the topic of eyewitness testimony. There have been many cases in the
past where people were falsely accused because the only evidence used was eyewitness testimony.
The very first exoneration in the United States took place on August 14, 1989, on that day DNA
evidence freed Gary Dotson from his wrongful rape conviction. It is very important also to make the
public aware that eyewitness testimonies are often times incorrect meaning more biological tests need
to be conducted to accurately convict someone. The Innocence Project has proved many times that
conviction solely based on eyewitness testimony is not ideal. In a research conducted by Stenzel C it
was stated that Today, the leading cause of wrongful convictions is eyewitness misidentification . This
is the main reason why the accuracy of eyewitness testimony needs to be further addressed, so there
are no wrongful convictions in the future. There were not many solutions available in the past over the
issues of eyewitness testimony. This caused many individuals to be falsely accused; however, in 1981
professors from Princeton published a paper regarding how people remember information. The
remembrance of past event is of huge importance to eyewitness testimony because witnesses are
questioned based on what took place during the scene of a

How Did The War Of Roses Affect England
In England, the throne was affected for many years due to The Wars of Roses, which led to a changed
look on the face of the country. The Wars of Roses was a civil war fought by the House of the York,
and the opposition the House of Lancaster. In addition, the unique name behind this war has comes
from reference to the heraldic badges associated with the two royal houses that are responsible for this
was. Simultaneously, this war had a huge impact on England which resulted in a hit taken by their
economy, and also the English government period lost some control over the country. The war
occurred from 1455 through 1487 thus having a huge impact on the country of England. Due to the

Metaphors In An Age Of Entertainment By Neil Postman
Postman s premise is that we are in an age of entertainment, a people on the verge of amusing to death
, and his argument that the medium is the metaphor: each medium, like language itself makes possible
a unique mode of discourse by providing a new orientation for thoughts, for expression, for sensibility.
And as the entertainment on television has become the metaphor for all communication, his premise is
validated.
In the first chapter of his book, Neil Postman first suggests that different cities of America, like
Boston, New York and Chicago, have served as the metaphors for the U.S. at different times in history.
At present (the book was written in 1985), the American culture is best symbolised by Las Vegas,
which is entirely devoted to the idea of entertainment . Postman asserts that at the current time, all
public discourse increasingly takes the form of entertainment which has put us in a position where we
are on the verge of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because Native Americans were circumscribed to long distance communication through smoke
signals, they could not have had philosophical disussions. The constraints of the form affect what can
be practically communicated through it. An another example refers to President Taft who was a fat
man, one who could not likely be voted today because of his appearance, not appropriate for an
appearance on television. Nevertheless, in a world without television, political arguments had more
legitimacy than appearance, which was not commonly transmitted to the public.
Briefly, Postman wishes to see how the Age of Typography became the Age of Television , and how
the latter requires all communications to take the form of entertainment. It is not merely that
entertainment on the television screen has becomes the metaphor of all discourse; it is that, off the
screen, the same metaphor prevails.

Essay on Border Gateway Protocol
The protocol I chose to write about is the Border Gateway Protocol because it is the main protocol
used to operate the internet and recommended protocol for Cisco design certifications. The BGP
protocol is an inter autonomous protocol; which means it is for connecting separate large networks,
such as a college network to a corporate network or the internet. Due to the large number of routes and
connection this protocol must manage; it uses very many features, or attributes, to achieve this. Cisco
defines these attributes as weight, local preference, multi exit discriminator, origin, AS_path, next hop,
and community. These attributes are used to discover networks and determine the best path to use for
sending packets to those networks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first attribute we will look at is called the weight attribute. This is a Cisco proprietary attribute, so
it is not found with other vendors. This attribute simply assigns a weight value to any know routes on
an individual router. This value is not passed on to any other routers. Each router can have its own
independent weight values for any known routes. If two separate routes to the same network are
known, the one that has the highest assigned weight value will be the preferred route. The local
preference attribute is used to determine the best exit point for an autonomous system (AS). This value
is shared by all the routers in the AS to select the best interfaces and routers for reaching known
networks. Each known network may exit on any router in the AS, or all on one router in the AS. The
route is determined by which router has the highest local preference number for a given network. The
multi exit discriminator attribute is kind of the opposite of the local preference. This attribute is sent to
a connected AS that is running BGP to suggest the best route in the AS advertising the MED. This is
just a suggestion, as the receiving AS can determine its own path by other means. The origin attribute
is just that, a way for a router to know how it learned of a path to a network. There are three different
ways to learn about a path; IGP, EGP, and incomplete. The first is internal

How The Supply Chain Has Evolved Over The Years
The supply chain has evolved over the years. With new businesses that are on the rise in the
competitive world it is important to stay on top. Different merchants create better deals that cause
relationships between the suppliers and their customers to the end. I wanted to explore those
relationships and research the history of the supply chain . I wanted to know how things were ran and
how they are able to sustain business when the economy changes.
How supply chain management has evolved In the 1940s and 1950s, the focus of logistics research
was on how to use mechanization (e.g., pallets and pallet lifts) to improve the very labor intensive
processes of material handling and how to take better advantage of space using racking and better
warehouse design and layout. The unit load concept gained popularity and the use of pallets became
widespread. In the mid 1950s, this concept was extended to transportation management with the
development of inter modal containers together with ships, trains, and trucks to handle these
containers. By the 1960s, a clear trend had developed in shifting more time dependent freight
transportation to truck rather than rail. This led to the need for joint consideration of warehousing,
material handling, and freight transportation, which emerged under the label of Physical Distribution.
Since the 1980s, computer technology has advanced at such a phenomenal rate that it is currently far
ahead of the ability of the supply and logistics field

Ben was at home on a Saturday night waiting on his wife. He had made reservations at her favourite

and there was still no sign of Claire. It was not usual of her to leave Ben uninformed. Ben s concern

after 6 years of marriage, he recognised her annoyingly loud knock. Where have you been? Ben asked.

an air vent near the door and peaked through it.
From there he saw Claire. She was perched on the floor: participating in what, to him, looked like
some sort ritual. A Séance. The woman who was leading the ritual was very strange looking, sort of,
how you would expect a clairvoyant, or is it a medium to look like, Ben thought. He could not believe

He spent the whole day questioning why she would do this, but even after having spent the entire day
thinking, he could not come to any conclusion. He decided to contact his therapist to talk about the
situation and settle his mind on what he should do. His therapist was the only person Ben ever spoke

Ted Bundy Vs Ted Bundy
Serial killers are one of the biggest mysteries to the rest of humanity. The way they think and act is
terrifying but also fascinating because other people don t think in the same way. So when we see
someone so sadistic and emotionally detached we want to know more about them. We want to know
what their childhood was like, if something happened in the early development of their lives or if they
were just wired that way from birth. Two of the most popular serial killers are Ted Bundy and Jeffrey
Dahmer. They both started killing people in their young adulthood, progressively becoming more and
more addicted to the thrill it gave them leading up to their arrests later in life. However, they had very
different home lives and experiences that lead to their fates. Childhood and adolescence tend to play a
huge role in the way people turn out as adults, so it s one of the first things people look back at when
someone turns out to be any kind of killer. Jeffrey Dahmer is said to have had a pretty normal
childhood though, according to his father, he had an unusual interest in the bodies of dead animals and
didn t show the same kinds of emotions as other children ( All About Jeffrey Dahmer , 2011). As he
developed into adolescence his fascination with dead animals only became more disturbing as he
started examining and dissecting the carcasses. He withdrew himself from society and turning to
heavy alcoholism. His drinking problem stayed with him throughout his high school career

Ethics And Social Responsibility
Ethics and social responsibility 1. Introduction The contemporaneous business environment is more
dynamic and more competitive than ever, reflecting a wide array of changes and challenges emerged
from within the micro and the macro environments. An important example at this level is represented
by the increasing pressures posed by the various categories of stakeholders. The employees become
more knowledgeable, more valuable and as such more demanding; the competition intensifies from
both domestic as well as international players; the share holders pressure for more profitability; the
needs of the customers change and the general public creates more pressure towards the limitation of
the negative impacts of the business operations onto the community. In this complex setting, the
economic agents come to devise and implement a series of strategies aimed at enhancing their position
and helping them satisfy the needs of stakeholders. One important example at this level is represented
by the increasing emphasis placed on ethics and social responsibility. 2. The role of ethics and social
responsibility in strategic plans Within the organizational setting, ethics and social responsibility are
perceived as the behavior the company should implement relative to its stakeholders, with the
expectation that the economic agents adhere to the legal stipulations, as well as the ethical norms to
preserve the wellbeing of the stakeholders. The organizational theory of

Examples Of Groupthink Essay
Introduction
For the purpose of this essay I will define what groupthink is. I will describe some important
symptoms of Groupthink with the aid of examples in business and will recommend some remedies for
of Group Think that a manager can decide to do in their organisation.
What is Groupthink?
Groupthink is a phenomenon that happens in an organisation because often required to work in groups
or teams. Almost all organisations work within groups on certain projects to reach a decision on ideas
and plans. Groupthink requires the group to conform to the same beliefs and requires cohesiveness at
all times. Groupthink occurs when a group makes faulty decisions because group pressure lead to a
deterioration of mental efficiency, reality testing and moral judgement (Irving Janis).
Example: If the group was doing a project and they were finished and then a printer is broken and
must find an alternative to the situation in question.
There are 8 symptoms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Illusion of unanimity
An example of this symptom would be Aras Attracta in Swinford where they thought they were doing
a good job when carrying out their duties on a daily basis however no one expressed an opinion what
was going on. They all did wrong and as a result Groupthink had horrendous circumstances. Nobody
questioned the carer as she victimised the patients. It is a good example in my opinion of groupthink
in recent times.
5. Direct pressure on dissenters
Members are under pressure not to express arguments against any of the group s views.
Example: When the company are deciding between two potential clients and the majority picks one
and the others need to bite their tongue. If they had said something they would say to them if you are
not with us you are against us.
b) What can a manager do about it?
There are a number of remedies I will list 5 of them and use examples of them.
1. Assign more than one person to attend a meeting in the organisation so they can test how they do

Tutor: Ms. Zhou Nannan Question 1
Linguistic relativity and linguistic determinism are strong version and weak version of Sapir Whorf
hypothesis respectively. According to XX (), linguistic relativity is defined as the variation of
cognitive processes among languages due to cultural differences. The individuals see, experience and
interpret the world based on the structure of the language they habitually use. Such linguistic
categories and usage influence thought and certain kinds of non linguistic behavior, carve up and
name the world differently. Linguistic relativism acknowledges that conceptual paradigms of thought
can be changed, extended, broadened and reshaped with respect to the experience the individual has or
the exertion the individual makes.
On the other hand, linguistic determinism is the idea that language and its structures limit and
determine human though patterns and knowledge, as well as thought processes such as categorization,
memory, and perception, assuming that language both reflects and limits human mentality and its
ability to make cross cultural connections such as bilingualism and translation. ... Show more content

It is because linguistic relativity is a matter of the way to view the world, which differs among cultural
variance; but, linguistic determinism is a matter of the cognition and perception process, which

same culture to have same differentiation in most cases. Therefore, linguistic determinism sees only

Tyson Foods
In the last few quarters, Tyson Foods has been facing tremendous pressures from rising food prices
and slumping demand for their products. However, in spite of these issues, Wall Street analysts are
optimistic that the company will realize strong annual growth in the next two years. To fully
understand what is taking place requires carefully examining how current assets and liabilities are
impacting executives strategies. ( Tyson Foods, 2012) ( Tyson Foods, 2013) (Graham, 1976)
This will be accomplished by looking at: next year s revenues forecast (based upon a 20% increase),
working capital recommendations that can be utilized to increase the bottom line results, the effects of
this rise on the firm s working capital policy and lessons learned / areas for further development in the
future. Together, these elements will highlight the underlying strengths and weaknesses of the

Rise Of Christianity Essay
Christianity began way back when during the reign of Tiberius, lasting from 14 C.E to 37 C.E. During
this time, a man by the name of Jesus began his teachings and Christianity was born. It was a religion
created by the mass number of followers that Jesus procured through his teachings, the people who
held onto every single of his words. During this time, there was much war and many civil wars
throughout the Roman Empire which had erupted into mass chaos. Zealots were encouraging armed
rebellion and it was then that Christians, or self proclaimed people of this new belief or religion,
believed in what they deemed the Messiah, who according to text, would destroy Roman legions and
bring times of happiness to the world around them (McKay, 168). Paganism was another type of
religion that began around this time as well, for the people who practiced religions outside the well
received Judaism and Christianity. What would be known as synchronistic religions blended together
both Roman and indigenous deities. Statues, temples, and monuments were all built or constructed due
to this belief and there was an ideal that existed in which there was believed to be life after death
(McKay, 168). Jesus played a vital role to Christianity during this time, especially where the Roman
Empire was concerned. According to text, he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

could spread its belief and power quickly. The empire in their minds was also universal and so
Christians combined the ideas of Universalism (McKay,

Evolution of mass customization First, I think it is necessary to briefly describe the development of
mass production to mass customization. Mass customization has been one of the causes of the
economic growth in the 21st century. Below, you can see figure, which shows evolution of mass
customization: Fig 1: Evolution of mass customization1 The first time our civilization has faced with
mass customization in pre industrialization era. In spite of this fact, today we also have started to
develop it. Of course, these times are very different, because today people use modern technologies.
Between these periods we can observe mass production, which come in vogue with fundamental
benefit of economy of scale and it was peak in mid century. For example, it was time of Soviet Union,
and then companies produced a lot of similar clothes, shoes and etc. In late twentieth century, mass
customization was back. Manufacturers offer different variation of products and customization is
possible. Methods of application will examine in the next section. Mass customization strategies:
advantages and disadvantages It is very important to understand how the mass customization works in
practice. Generally, scientists mark out four strategies: transparent, cosmetic, adaptive and
collaborative. A few words about each strategy: * Cosmetic strategy: companies produce a standard
product but present it differently to different customers.

Ashella had dutifully helped Brietta and Edana get into their dresses for that evening s festivities.
Many times throughout the process she had to force herself not to giggle as her stepsisters asked for
increasingly ridiculous elements to be added to their look. She had plucked their hairlines to give them
a more prominent forehead. This of course, had led to much whining and scolding from the two as
they believed she was hurting them on purpose. They had acted like babies, but Ashella certainly didn
t say that out load to them at the time. When it came to dressing them, she put them in high collared
gaudy dresses with low cut necklines and fur lining the trim. Jewels decorated the fabric of each,
revealing how they tried desperately to show off their wealth, despite their mother actually having
spent much of her parent s money years ago. On their orders, she had painted their faces pure white
with powder and had even been ordered to do so with their bust. It was quite an appalling process for
her to say the least. By the time she was done, her stepsisters looked horrible with their gaudy dresses

appalled Ashella, but then again, they adhered to the idea of beauty that said showing off wealth was
just as good as actually being beautiful. Needless to say she was happy when they made their way

companies established a department and the programs to manage their relationship with the customers.
Customer relationship management (CRM) is a business strategy which designed to help a company
to understand and look forward to the needs of its potential and current customers (Anderson Stang,
2000). Customer data is being collected in several different areas of the company, stored in a central

The merging of the customer data from sales and the call center interactions has created the more
informed interactions with the customer (Petersen, 2004). The concept rang with the user
organizations and mergers and acquisitions created a host of software that the vendors claimed to have
an integrated set of capabilities that became known as customer relationship management (Petersen,
2004). Companies wanted to learn more about each and every individual customer and use the
information to effectively take care of and manage their relationships, and yet increased customer
satisfaction and profit.
There are several objectives that the customer relationship management is being implemented, such as
customer identification, customer differentiation, customer interaction and personalization (Peppers,
1998). First, it is very important for a company if it able to identify its customers. Different companies
offer different products and services which may not satisfy all customers. The costs and efforts of
acquiring new customers can be reduced and focused when the company finds out the customers who
are its potential customers. For example, e mail distribution or mailing services can be used if the
company has the customers profile. Next, the company can use the services to differentiate its
products with others. The company may sell or provide the similar products with the other

Miss Brill Illusion Vs Reality
The mind creates a world of illusion, by changing our thoughts; we change the illusion, and
experience a different reality. If we say that a real thing is something that always exists, with no gaps,
then the outside world is not real. Katherine Mansfield captures the theme of illusion vs. reality in her
short story Miss Brill the main character Miss Brill is fascinated with the surprise of having an almond
in her honey cake. The almond symbolizes how Miss Brill sees herself in society as the honey cake
represents the people. The way Miss Brill tries to fit in, the loneliness she endures and analyzing the

In her fantasy world Miss Brill enjoys a feeling of superiority (Parquette, 1952) as her illusions takes
the best of her as she believes she is a actress and that everyone around her is in this play. These flat
statements leave little doubt that for the spinster the drama of the park is a fact. She feels that all the

With herself being the almond and those around her being the honey cake, the emotion she feels when
going to the bakery and noticing an almond in her honey cake means that she believes she is suited for
the role of those at the park. Although in reality she is a lonely English teacher, she puts her profession
and her emotions aside to live up to the lavish upscale life of those surrounding her.
Miss Brill doesn t see herself as being lonely; she merely just wants to be apart of something that can
bring an adventure. The illusions she makes are caused by feeling alienated to the world, throughout
the story she is mostly just watching people instead of interacting with them. This can be her way of
probably feeling sad when she doesn t see an almond in her honey cake, as she is disconnected to the
people around her. Her weekly routine is to shadow her true feelings within

The Environmental Factors And Causes Of Heart Failure
Introduction
Heart failure is a chronic disease that has been affecting individuals for centuries. According to
American Heart Association 2017, heart failure occurs when heart muscles is weakened and cannot
pump enough blood to meet the body s demanding need for blood and oxygen. Heart failure can be
hereditary. However if not hereditary, there are environmental factors that can contribute to heart
failure. Heart failure can be prevented and control. In this paper, I will discuss the causes of heart
failure. I will aso discuss how heart failure can be prevented. If heart failure is not prevented, I will
also discuss how to live with heart failure.
Living with heart failure can be a challenge. However when controlled, people can live normal healthy
lives with heart failure by modifying lifestyle changes. Heart failure can be seen like a balloon. A
balloon can be filled up with so much water and or air such as a heart. A heart can be filled with so
much blood and fluid. When a balloon continuously to get filled with air, it gets bigger and bigger
until it explodes. This causes water from the balloon to go everywhere. This is like the heart. When
too much fluid goes to the heart by unnecessary means, the heart gets bigger and bigger. The heart is
only able to carry a certain amount of fluid or oxygen. The heart distributes this fluid to other parts of
the body. When the heart gets too much fluid it explodes such as the balloon the heart enlarges and has

purpose of this meeting was very clear to both this writer and seemed to be to all group members.
Group members respected that the purpose was to have meetings that were effective enough to help
themselves stay sober. The group leader was very strict on keeping the group on task and did not allow
much time for the group members to get off topic. The group discussions truly allowed group
members to understand the purpose in being in attendance at each meeting. The time allotted for the
meeting was perfect. The hour long session left just enough time for each portion of the meeting to be
completed, but did not leave extra time where the group leader struggled to come up with discussion
or activities for the group members to participate in. The use of time was very effective and clear to
both the group leaders and group members.

Canada (Ethnologue 2015). In the first study, I looked into the basic sociolinguistic aspects affecting
this language, focusing primarily on efforts to revitalize it. It is labeled by the anthropological site
Ethnologue as Moribund, and by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization
(UNESCO) as Extinct (Ethnologue 2015). In part one of the current paper, I will reiterate some of the
points that I made previously, while further exploring the topic of language revitalization. In the
second study, I focused on the Cayuga grammar system, spending considerable time looking at the
phonetics and phonology of the language, as there is not much other literature available on the
morphology or syntax of the language. I briefly glossed over the prosodic system in Cayuga, later ...

  • 2. Symbolism In The Talented Mr. Ripley By Patricia Highsmith The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith, set in 1950s in a somewhat vibrant, jazz influenced Italy, gives a vivid insight into the mind of a small time conman turned psychopath. It also provides us with the central concepts of amorality, paranoia and how that survival and greed for money can turn almost ordinary people uncaring and self indulgent. Highsmith s use of third person narrative is an effective technique and is used to expand on the thesis of morality in the novel . Tom Ripley, a man in his mid 20 s, claims he is close friends with Richard Dickie Greenleaf, when in reality, he doesn t really know Dickie at all. (3) Approached by the wealthy Herbert Greenleaf, Tom is asked to retrieve his son, Dickie, from Italy. (3) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Overall the themes and plots were similar, but there were additional characters and a different ending. There were also small details that were changed, but overall I did not enjoy the movie as much I thought I was going to after reading the book. In the same way that every mystery is exciting until you find the logical explanation, the film is intriguing because you don t have the luxury of knowing Tom s background, or why he covets Dickie s lifestyle. It was because of these changes, even though some were minor that I did not enjoy the movie. I do understand though that in order to appeal to a more broad audience the producers had to add and change details in order for it to be more appealing. The differences did not make the movie unexciting, but the book is definitely better. The book provides a more in depth profile analysis of the characters involved and especially puts a point on the three leads (Dickie Greenleaf, Marge and Tom ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Information on Laissez-faire and Court Injuction 1. Court Injuction 2. Laissez faire Recording to the Union County College Laissez faire an economic and political doctrine that holds that economies function most efficiently when unencumbered by government regulation. Laissez faire advocates favor individual self interest and competition, and oppose the taxation and regulation of commerce. Leave it alone The concept came from the economic theories of Adam Smith, the 18th century Scot whose writings greatly influenced the growth of American capitalism. Smith believed that private interests should have a free rein. As long as markets were free and competitive, he said, the actions of private individuals, motivated by self interest, would work together for the greater good of society. Smith did favor some forms of government intervention, mainly to establish the ground rules for free enterprise. But it was his advocacy of laissez faire practices that earned him favor in America, a country built on faith in the individual and distrust of authority. Laissez faire practices have not prevented private interests from turning to the government for help on numerous occasions, however. Railroad companies accepted grants of land and public subsidies in the 19th century. Industries facing strong competition from abroad have long appealed for protections through trade policy. American agriculture, almost totally in private hands, has benefited from government assistance. Many other industries also have sought and received ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How Did Marston Build The Water Tower In 1895, they made a decision to build the water tower since there was a shortage of water and it forced the classes to be cancelled. Anson Marston, the engineer who designed the First Water Tower was head of Civil Engineering at ISU. The water tower was the first elevated steel water tower west of the Mississippi. It stood 168 feet above campus. It was more than 30 feet tall and 20 feet in diameter and held 160,000 gallons. The use of the water tower was discontinued in 1978, and the university switched to the Ames city water system. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981 and after seven years, it was restored. The American Water Works Association presented an award to ISU in 2007, when the water tower was named Marston Water Tower and an American Water Landmark. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because of the his brilliant idea, he broke all the standard rules of the day in its design by using steel to replace wood to build the water tower. • 5. Essay On Placement In A New School Here I will discuss how I felt trying to fit into a new school district and what actions were taken by the Administration. When Catholic School did not work out my parents once again found another school. I transferred to the Brecksville Broadview Heights School District. While outwardly things appeared better, they were not. A myriad of tests, followed by discussions with my parents led to yet another solution; placement in a small group setting for English, Math, and Reading. Perhaps, I was unable to learn in a regular classroom setting. Perhaps, a slower paced setting was needed. The new school appeared to be the perfect fit. The teachers appeared friendly. My parents were assured that the district would help me achieve my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We were singled out, cut from the pack and not allowed to be a part of the elite society. We struggled through elementary and middle school. We forged our own path and maintained a small group of friends, those who were also unlucky enough to be in small group settings. In this section I will discuss how the school district made a determination about how best I would be successful based on my history in school. As school progressed, I found myself in High School. Through the IEP process, which was designed to leave no child behind , it was decided that what I needed was vocational training. I had been programmed to feel I was different, and incapable of learning, I felt I had no choice but to go along with the program. I needed to fit into society, I needed a path and one was chosen for me. My counselor thought Culinary Arts would be my forte. Perhaps being of Italian decent, he felt I would make a good chef. Once again, instead of addressing the real issue, it was determined I would be unable to succeed in college. Vocational school was easier. I was able to eliminate the problem of the language barrier, since vocational school focused on skills and not academics. Acadian Hermit Crabs Lab Report Construction of each substrate: Rock Crevice: The rock crevice used four rocks to make a crevice shape Rock Structure: The rock structure was made of three rocks, two rocks on the bottom level and one resting on top of the others to make an overhang. Seaweed: Find a small bunch of Bladderwrack Fucus seaweed and weigh it down with a small rock so it does not disturb the other substrates. Shells: Collect periwinkles (both smooth and common), dogwhelks, and a mussel or clam to make up the shell area. It is okay if the periwinkles and dogwhelks move, just make sure they do not obstruct the test. The Actual Experiment: To begin the experiment, one must pick out one hermit crab at random from the holding bucket. Metaphors In An Age Of Entertainment By Neil Postman Postman s premise is that we are in an age of entertainment, a people on the verge of amusing to death , and his argument that the medium is the metaphor: each medium, like language itself makes possible a unique mode of discourse by providing a new orientation for thoughts, for expression, for sensibility. And as the entertainment on television has become the metaphor for all communication, his premise is validated. In the first chapter of his book, Neil Postman first suggests that different cities of America, like Boston, New York and Chicago, have served as the metaphors for the U.S. at different times in history. At present (the book was written in 1985), the American culture is best symbolised by Las Vegas, which is entirely devoted to the idea of entertainment . Due to the large number of routes and connection this protocol must manage; it uses very many features, or attributes, to achieve this. The first attribute we will look at is called the weight attribute. This is a Cisco proprietary attribute, so it is not found with other vendors. This attribute simply assigns a weight value to any know routes on an individual router. This value is not passed on to any other routers. Each router can have its own independent weight values for any known routes. If two separate routes to the same network are known, the one that has the highest assigned weight value will be the preferred route. The local preference attribute is used to determine the best exit point for an autonomous system (AS). This value is shared by all the routers in the AS to select the best interfaces and routers for reaching known networks. Each known network may exit on any router in the AS, or all on one router in the AS. The route is determined by which router has the highest local preference number for a given network. The multi exit discriminator attribute is kind of the opposite of the local preference. This attribute is sent to a connected AS that is running BGP to suggest the best route in the AS advertising the MED. This is just a suggestion, as the receiving AS can determine its own path by other means. The origin attribute is just that, a way for a router to know how it learned of a path to a network. Different merchants create better deals that cause relationships between the suppliers and their customers to the end. I wanted to explore those relationships and research the history of the supply chain . I wanted to know how things were ran and how they are able to sustain business when the economy changes. How supply chain management has evolved In the 1940s and 1950s, the focus of logistics research was on how to use mechanization (e.g., pallets and pallet lifts) to improve the very labor intensive processes of material handling and how to take better advantage of space using racking and better warehouse design and layout. The unit load concept gained popularity and the use of pallets became widespread. In the mid 1950s, this concept was extended to transportation management with the development of inter modal containers together with ships, trains, and trucks to handle these containers. By the 1960s, a clear trend had developed in shifting more time dependent freight transportation to truck rather than rail. This led to the need for joint consideration of warehousing, material handling, and freight transportation, which emerged under the label of Physical Distribution. I cannot bear it anymore (Sophocles 24). Oedipus sees what he had done a later shouting, O God! O no! I see it now! All clear! . . . Sin! Sin in my birth! Sin in my marriage! Sin in Blood (Sophocles 27). When they both saw what they had done they could not believe it all they could do was just see what they had not been seen before. These crimes he committed were in ignorance because he unknowingly killed his father and bedded his mother. He does not begin to question his father s legitimacy until a man, half drunk and shouting that [Oedipus] was not rightly called [his] father s son (Sophocles 18). After getting a confusing respond from Apollo about his parents Oedipus runs away never thinking about that until the day of Polybus , his foster father, death. It was not until then when the messenger said that, Polybus was no relative of [Oedipus] when he finds out that they were not his real parents (Sophocles 23). They had acted like babies, but Ashella certainly didn t say that out load to them at the time. When it came to dressing them, she put them in high collared gaudy dresses with low cut necklines and fur lining the trim. Jewels decorated the fabric of each, revealing how they tried desperately to show off their wealth, despite their mother actually having spent much of her parent s money years ago. On their orders, she had painted their faces pure white with powder and had even been ordered to do so with their bust. It was quite an appalling process for her to say the least. By the time she was done, her stepsisters looked horrible with their gaudy dresses and hair styles that did nothing to soften the look of their pale faces and dark red lips.
