Led Zeppelin s Black Dog Analysis
Explorations in Music
Music Analysis
Led Zeppelin s Black Dog from their fourth album Led Zeppelin IV, is arguably one of their most
distinct and instantly recognisable songs. Led Zeppelin bassist, John Paul Jones was supposedly
inspired by Muddy Waters 1968 album Electric Mud. XXX He longed to write a song which
incorporated electric Blues with a rolling bass part, and a riff that would be like a linear journey .
The following piece will analyses Led Zeppelin s Black Dog oi a number of ways. Starting with

powerful legacy and inspirations can be seen in the work of many great musicians. Red Hot Chilli

In terms of society and musically, Led Zeppelin are credited as the inventors of the heavy metal genre.
They were the forerunners of a style of music that would captivate society and guide a generation.
They were as influential in that decade as the Beatles were in the prior one. Their impact extends to
classic and alternative rockers alike. Then and now, Led Zeppelin looms larger than life on the rock

Trotsky Vs Stalin
After Lenin s death in January of 1924, it became apparent that a power struggle between Trotsky and
Stalin had already long been brewing and would soon become far greater. Stalin had quite a different
background than both Trotsky and Lenin. Lyons had explained that Stalin had come from a different
background than Trotsky and Lenin, one where he had never even left Russia. His background largely
contributed to his varying perceptions of Russia and its regime, along with his approach as to how he
would come to power. Lyons wrote, He believed that the Communists had enough to do in Russia
itself. Stalin not only headed the the Secretariat as general secretary but led the Organizational Bureau
as well, which gave him control over the party machinery and personnel (Lyons, 2016, pg. 31). As the
notes about the interwar period had stated, Stalin was rather calculating and had conceived a strategy
that would allow for him to gain control of the state. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After doing so, in 1929 Trotsky had lost his position of power. This would in turn lead to Trotsky
fleeing to Mexico and eventually succumbing to his death, as ordered by Stalin. After doing so, Lyons
wrote, Stalin now felt strong enough to launch a massive program to nationalize the economy and
transform Russia into a first class industrial power as quickly as possible. He decided to bring the
entire economy under state control by nationalizing all industry and abolishing private ownership of
land in favor of a system of collectivization (Lyons, 2016, pg. 31). Stalin immediately began to
implement new policies while abolishing the old

The Martial Arts School Program
The aim of this paper is to make the proposition and methodological defense to evaluate program
planning in reference to the organization selected from module 2.
Based to implementing the Ernie Reyes West Coast World Martial Arts Association s program; the
program implementer must commence by learning about the martial arts school program; its mission
statement, goals, and objectives must be understood. These elements are capital when interested to
implementing an organizational program. 1 Many methods can be utilized to implement any program.
In the case of the martial arts school, the program implementer can utilize the quantitative or
qualitative methods, or both as mixed method for collecting data. The selection of quantitative ...

This methodology helps design the studies scientifically. In quantitative research methodology, data
can be collected without the participants, Rudestam Newton (2007) noted that Quantitative research
seeks objectivity by standardizing the procedures and measures as much as possible data and by
distancing the researcher from the participants. When proceeding for the implementation of the martial
arts school, the implementer can also applicate the qualitative research method to gather data. This
method requires a series of interviews, observations, and open ended questionnaires. Effectively,
qualitative research method in program evaluation allows rapid surveys, direct and indirect
interactions with participants, and feedbacks from stakeholders and clients are necessary.
Questionnaires or likers reports are also necessary, since feedback from clients, employees,
stakeholders, and others individual willing to learn about the program that is being implemented
within the organization would bring a plus in terms of modifying, implementing, or discontinuing the
program. Utilizing both quantitative and qualitative method to develop the martial arts school program
is a good bet since both method would work. The optimization of the quantitative method may
promote slow data collection procedure; this process involves standardized assessment, statistical

Analysis Of Gilman s A Mountain Path As Road
Charlotte Perkins Gilman was an American writer of diminutive stories, poems, and nonfiction. She
was a utopian feminist as well as a socialist who served as a paradigm for future generations of
feminists. An Obstacle is one of the optimum workings of her during her life span. In her poem,
Gilman explained women s struggle to accomplish egalitarianism with men in a very vivid illustration.
Gilman referred a mountain path as road which a woman has to surpass in array to reach equality, as it
takes additional endeavor to climb a mountain then walking on a plane path. It signifies that the mode
to reach the destination of impartiality is certainly not a piece of cake for women especially in this
form of civilization where women are considered inferior to men. When we (Women) are burdened
with many things to do, important business of my own, and other people s too signifies the quantity of
effort they are exerting in their day to day life. Women saunter through the hard way, bringing with
her many things, not only for herself but for others also. Her expedition was going well but not for
long. A Prejudice thwarts her endeavor. Prejudice here refers to patriarchal society (both men and
women) who believe that women are the subsequent sex. Second verse strengthens the first, that
Gilman s attempt to attain equality was not a simple thing to do with her limit time and vigor.
Prejudice made her struggle harder coz it hindered her journey. In Third and fourth stanza

Les Miserables Inequality
The Eternal Inequality Within Society Former President of South Africa and anti apartheid
revolutionary, Nelson Mandela, once stated that as long as poverty, injustice, and gross inequality
persist in our world, none of us can truly rest. This statement is accurately displayed through victor
Hugo s novel, Les Miserables, where Hugo uses the fictional story of poverty and loss to convey a
message consisting of the fact that in order for the impoverished to become prosperous, they must
receive continuous aid for society to progress as a whole. In both Hugo s novel as well as the non
fiction articles about hazardous factories in Bangladesh, the primary social crisis that has persisted
throughout hundreds of years is the glaring social inequity between the high and low social classes,
such as the American factory owners and the poor, unprotected Bangladeshi workers. Nonetheless,
through Hugo s romanticist and utopian ideals, he demonstrates that in order to combat drastic
inequality, more prosperous classes must aid the less fortunate and unprotected lower classes in order
to establish a more equitable and enlightened society. A seemingly never ending issue that plagues
human civilizations is the disparity between social classes, which inevitably tears societies apart while
also, most literally, crushing the lower working classes to pieces. For instance in Bangladesh, a fatal
fire at Tazreen Fashions, a garment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, with the aid of Hugo s ideology of mankind helping one another in the pursuit of
progress, it is plausible to someday end this crisis of unfairness once and for all. As Nelson Mandela

ultimately make the world a more fair, accepting, and progressive in its

Benefits Of Measure Service Quality
Incheon and Hong Kong two of the best ranked airports in the world
Airports are similar to cities in a variety of aspects where to happen many activities such as take off,
landings of aircraft, movement of people and freight. It is important to highlight that passengers are
the essence of the airports operations considering that the primary purpose of the commercial aviation
is to transport customers from one point to another point in a period of time. In over the past years
airports focused only in the departure and arrival of passengers but in the current years, airports focus
their goals beyond transportation of travellers with the purpose to satisfy their needs. Thus, airports
offer a range of services to attract the attention of different type of customers worldwide. The aim of
this essay is to analyse and understand the benefits of measure service quality due to the high
competitiveness of the airport industry, taking as examples two of the best airports in the world for
passengers. The two airports selected are Incheon International Airport and Hong Kong International
Airport that are located in Asia, one of the markets with more demand of customers these days and in
the coming years by International Air Transport Association (2015). In the direction to enrich the
performance of the organisations the need to measure service quality arises, since it is vital to
determine how well an airport is performing service delivery in order to survive and grow in a

The, A Fusion Of Animal And Machine
In You Are a Cyborg (Harl, Kunzru, 2013), Donna Haraway claims that humans are cyborgs; a fusion
of animal and machine . Not robots like artificial intelligence Ava in Ex Machina (Garland, 2015), but
cybernetic organisms or information machines. Haraway s cyborg claim rests on a complex interaction
between humans and technology and how this interaction is not co existing with one another, but as
humans and technology incorporating one another. The Dictionary of Sociology defines cyborg as a,
growing integration of human beings into mechanical systems (2012). Following Haraway s claim, I

We Real Cool
We Real Cool
English 125
We Real Cool In this paper the topic that will be written about is the poem entitled We Real Cool .
This poem was written in 1960 by a woman named Gwendolyn Brooks. In this paper three topics have
been selected so that this poem will be able to be analyzed. With each element, it will de discussed
how those elements affected and interested me while reading. The three elements that have been
written about are form, language, and content. Form, in poetry, can be understood as the physical
structure of the poem: the length of the lines, their rhythms, their system of rhymes and repetition (The
Poetry Archive, 2005 2010). Form is the technical word for the look and sound of language
(Kwikguide, 2009). In a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was a lot of confusion about what the writer was trying to get across. Initially, the thought that
the poem was referring to herself was a bit transparent, so immediately the thought was that it was
supposed to be a tragic poem. However, after listening to the author read the poem, and did more
research, there was complete surprise. The poem was written to come off as a happy and a very
positive poem. As it was mentioned previously, the most interesting part about this poem is the We .
Gwendolyn is a very enjoyable sounding writer. She has a very strong pronunciation and the age in
her voice helps with the passionate sound of the reading. In conclusion, form, content, and language
come together in this literary work to offer a striking emotional response from its reader. Without each
of these specific components, the poem simply wouldn t have the same effect. Form is necessary to
provide structure, content its scene and language its sound and feel. Gwendolyn Brooks has included
each ingredient to provide a brief, but strong feeling one way or another, for the young people of this
poem.

Similarities Between Scarlet Begonias And Fire On The...
Scarlet Begonias/Fire on the Mountain Essay
Michael Peller has been a fan of the Grateful Dead for as long as he can remember. As a child, he
listened to their albums on cassette tapes in the car, and as a college student, he attended live
performances.
The Grateful Dead debuted in 1965 in Palo Alto, CA. It was known for its eclectic, psychedelic rock
style, which was sculpted amid the San Franciscan countercultural movement of the 1960s. The
movement gained speed alongside the civil rights movement and hippie culture. The Grateful Dead
embraced these new beliefs in their songwriting, rejecting common structure by adopting the jam
genre, which is based off of live improvisation.

However, the parts of the song that most affected Mike Peller were the allusions to and imagery of the
70s. The song s story follows a young man, walking around the local square, who is entranced by a
young woman with scarlet begonias tucked into her curls (Grateful Dead). She also had rings on her
fingers and bells on her shoes, a line that has stuck with Mike because of how the image reminds him
of the 70s, and as an extension, the ideas of freedom and being carefree. Mike doesn t have much of
an opinion about the lyrics of Fire on the Mountain , but he does love the rhythm and the bass guitar
because it just makes anybody want to dance (Michael Peller). However, I found the lyrics to be
meaningful in ways related to Mike s enjoyment of the song. The line, fire, fire on the mountain , is
repeated throughout the song, and almost sounds like an urgent call for help. Despite this, the beat and
music rolls on. The song pokes fun at a long distance runner who continues to make and dance to
music even as a dragon with matches is loose on the town . But when fans dance to the music live at a
concert, the lyrics take on a different meaning: on how even as everything is burning down, the fans
keep dancing and the Grateful Dead keeps

Storytelling and Its Relevance
Storytelling and its relevance
Storytelling is, as a concept, built upon the fundamental question of why. From the dawn of
civilization to the marketing activities of a silicon valley technology company, the success of every
endeavor in between can be traced to the resolution of this fundamental question. Storytelling is one of
the few human traits that are truly universal across culture and through all of known history, writes
Jeremy Hsu for Scientific American . Anthropologists find evidence of folktales everywhere in ancient
cultures, written in Sanskrit, Latin, Greek, Chinese, Egyptian and Sumerian. People in societies of all
types weave narratives, from oral storytellers in hunter gatherer tribes to the millions of writers
churning out books, television shows and movies.
In his book The Triumph of Narrative, Robert Fulford writes about the historical significance of
narratives and their impact on culture through time and generations. When ancient man s crop failed,
for example, he wanted to know why. To the non scientific mind, the most compelling explanations
arose in the form of religion; crops failed because the gods were unhappy and required tribute. The
power of these stories, as mentioned, lies in the fact that on some level in the consciousness of the
audience they make sense they resolve the question of why and provide explanation for the
happenings around the brain. The story from Rapunzel to War and Peace is one of the basic tools
invented by the

The Universe Of International Sports
In the realm of international sports, for centuries and centuries, no one took into account the sexual
orientations of athletes. For instance, the juxtaposition of the European based sport rugby, versus
purely Americanized sports such as football and basketball in the way these communities have
responded to their athletes coming out of the closet. In any American sport, there is media attention
and moral and social questions of whether these individuals are still capable of playing the sport
without interference. These circumstances change drastically when considering Gareth Thomas, the
highly esteemed Welsh professional rugby union and rugby league player. The extreme differences in

By describing Thomas s physical attributes Smith reinforces that the orientation of a player should not
have an impact on the sport or the opinions of any spectators. Throughout the world, rugby is
perceived as a tough, manly, and masculine sport, as is American football. Where European rugby and
American sports are distinctly separated is the responses and the way that gay players are treated.
Thomas s coming out was a positive experience, yet the experience and treatment of outly gay Jason
Collins and Michael Sam is exceedingly worse than any European athletes. The United States and the
European countries, specifically the United Kingdom, stand at opposite ends of their abilities to accept
gay athletes. Therefore, throughout the United Kingdom, Thomas has received immense support from
fans, it is almost inevitable that he would get media attention as well. In comparison to Gareth Thomas
s positive outcome of coming out in the sports world, Jason Collins, an African American N.B.A. star,
has struggled with the consequences of coming out in a sports league. From the minute Jason Collins
came out publicly, he struggled significantly with being accepted by avid fans as well as his own
teammates and coaches. In a New York Times article, N.B.A.

The Utility of Deterrence as a Central Nuclear Security...
Understanding what role exists for nuclear weapons in the post Cold War world requires an
appreciation for the strategic concepts that defined Cold War nuclear strategy, as well as the
applicability of those concepts to the contemporary world. Cold War nuclear strategy was almost
entirely concerned with the bilateral relationship between the United States and the Soviet Union, and
thus the central strategic concept to arise from this period was the notion of deterrence. Following the
collapse of the Soviet Union and the ongoing proliferation of nuclear weapons, the utility of
deterrence as a central nuclear security strategy is in question, even as the threat posed by the mere
existence of nuclear weapons increases. By 1997, at least ten countries had missiles capable of
delivering nuclear payloads over 500 kilometers, and nearly every country without intercontinental
capability is working on it (Stanley Payne 1997, p. 133). Furthermore, some countries with nuclear
capabilities, such as Pakistan, are seeing a serious threat to internal security, increasing the likelihood
that nuclear weapons will find their way into the hands of transnational terrorist organizations and
other actors far less susceptible to strategies of deterrence. By examining both the state of nuclear
security during the Cold War and the concept of deterrence in general in the context of contemporary
security issues, it becomes clear that there is no secure place for nuclear weapons in the post Cold

Though several arguments could be made on the validation of what exactly is holy what fascinates me
is how Euthyphro compares himself to Zeus while justifying his actions. Yes, the story sounds very
similar as both Euthyphro and Zeus are against their fathers who are rightfully criminals. On the other
hand, Euthyphro s father and Cornus (Zeus s father) seem to have had different intents for their
crimes. Cornus apparently swallowed his babies because of power as he was afraid that the children

Model School Policy On Suicide Prevention Case Study
Model School Policy on Suicide Prevention
Mara Kashmiri
Texas A M University Kingsville Model School Policy on Suicide Prevention Suicide is the third most
common cause of death for children and teenagers (Center for Disease Control (CDC), 2015). In order
to combat these rising rates, preventative measures must be put into place. Among the places that a
child is most likely to be accounted for is at school, therefore, schools must be involved in the
preventative process. In this line of thinking the a coalition of interested organizations, such as the
American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, have created a Model School Policy on Suicide

Factors Driving Germany To War Essay
There are four main factors that could have driven Germany s decision to go to war; firstly due to fear
of encirclement , secondly that she was pulled into war by a web of alliances, thirdly that she entered
war for imperial reasons, and lastly that she entered war as a result of social pressure. However one
must consider the degree to which each of these factors effected Germany s decision to go to war, and
that the principle reasoning is a conjunction of both social pressure and fear of encirclement. The
entrenched isolation within which Germany existed, to some degree alongside Austria Hungary and
lesser so with Italy, and the growing threat that she posed to Britain both financially and militarily, can
be said to have driven the web ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, Gerhard Ritter has argued that German aims in 1914 were essentially defensive and that
what Bethmann Hollweg hoped for was at best a diplomatic victory which would split the entente ,
showing her desire to break the encirclement. The intent of German policy was to drive a wedge
between Britain and France, whom together were a great check against German power in Europe. Yet
the Russian threat from the east compounded the fears of the Anglo French alliance, and as Otto von
Volderndorff stated, we must confine ourselves to securing our country against the two neighbours
[France and Russia] . Further historiographical support for this theory comes from Andreas Hillgruber
, who argues that Germany sought to break the Triple Entente by encouraging Austria to invade Serbia
and provoke a crisis that concerned only Russia, and in doing so hope that neither Britain nor France
felt compelled to enter the conflict, leaving Russia isolated and to eventually reach an agreement with
Germany. This theory is quite compelling as it serves both to explain Germany s quick support of
Austria, and to match Germany s concern of the Triple Entente. Yet this idea is not concurrent with
Germany s actions towards France. If keeping France out of the war was a goal, then antagonizing her

Welcome to the world of science fiction, sometimes known familiarly as SF, but rarely Sci Fi, which is
generally considered to be pejorative by aficionados of the genre, and more appropriate for films than
literature. Science fiction is one of the three subdivisions of fantastic literature, the other two being
fantasy fiction and supernatural horror. Although definitions vary and some individual works may blur
the distinction between one branch and another, most fantastic or speculative stories and novels can by
general consensus be placed in one of the three categories. Science fiction is the youngest of the three,
but since the late 1940s it has been by far the most popular, and the total number of science fiction
titles published in book form presently exceeds that of fantasy and supernatural fiction combined. ...

Possibly it is because Americans are so fond of, and dependent upon, technology. Possibly it is
because we found it easier to lose ourselves in a fantastic world that might just be possible rather than
in a magical one that we know is not. It could also be that science fiction embraces such a wide variety
of themes and story types space operas, military adventures, utopias and dystopias, time travel,
alternate universes, alien creatures and civilizations, mysteries, and rationalized psychic powers. There
is something in science fiction for almost any reader s taste, whereas fantasy seems predominantly
designed to satisfy those who enjoy lengthy historical novels set in mythical lands, perhaps with a
touch of magic. The recent surge in the number of new fantasy titles has shown no evolution of that
field, and the vast majority of authors seem content to rewrite stories that have proved popular in the
past. Science fiction readers are more interested in the history of the field, and the direction in which it

The Three Senses Of Sharks
Most predator sharks are long and round. Every shark is shaped for the type of water they live in.
Angelsharks are flat so they can hide on the sea floor.
Horn sharks have sharp spines on their backs
Megamouths have huge soft blubbery lips.
Hammerhead sharks (as said in their name) have a head shaped like a hammer, which makes them
look like a swimming T.
Sawsharks have long pointy, sharp snouts.
Large sharks, like the whale shark or the Basking shark, are as big as a bus.
Some very tiny sharks such as the pygmy shark or the Colombian lantern shark can fit on top of your
hand.
Goblin sharks has a very strange long snout like a long horn, it is said that these goblin sharks have
lived since the dinosaur age; people have found fossils of a shark similar to the goblin shark that had
lived about 125 million years ago.

The senses are hearing, smell, lateral line, pit organs, vision, Lorenzini, touch, and taste. Sharks have
many senses that us humans do such as taste and smell, but it has special three senses that we do not

last 10 20 years, and play an important role in how the shark behaves when swimming around. The six
senses which shark use very essentially for looking and hunting prey prey are Smell, Eyesight,
Electrosense(sense of electricity), Water Pressure, Hearing and Taste. Two thirds of a shark s brain is
devoted to smell.
Sharks can distinguish one drop of blood in a million drops of water, 1/4th of a mile away. Water
constantly flows through their nostrils, giving them olfactory information. Sharks have colour vision
and see well in dark light. It is said that sharks use the ampullae of Lorenzini as a directing device to

pulsation in the water. The sharks pit organs are used to detect temperature

Analysis Of The Magdalene Sisters
Directed by Peter Mullan in 2002, The Magdalene Sisters, focuses on four young women s
experiences in a Dublin Magdalen Laundry from 1964 to 1968. Through telling the story of Margaret,
Patricia, Bernadette and Harriet, all considered to be sexually deviant and subsequently imprisoned in
a convent, Mullan s movie graphically depicts the systematic punishment and demoralization of young
women at the hands of their unforgiving parents, the state, the Catholic Church as well as the
community in denial. Though each woman has a different story both before and during their stay in
the laundry, the film reveals that they were victims to deep, unflinching religious beliefs and a deep
seated contempt for and fear of female sexuality, a dark and oppressive aspect of Irish society in the
19th and 20th centuries. Although the entire movie authentically depicts how church, state, family and
community colluded in, and therefore share culpability for, the abuse of women in Magdalen
laundries, specific scenes, such as the rape in the opening wedding scene, the Corpus Christi festival
and the emotional abuse in the shower scene highlight the shame and embarrassment as well as
oppression that women faced in Ireland in the mid 20th century. The Magdalene Sisters promotes a
more sophisticated understanding of the relationship between state, society, and taboo surrounding
sexuality in the Ireland that allowed the perpetuation of Magdalen laundries and mistreatment of
women who were believed to

La Jolla Symphony Essay
The La Jolla Symphony concert was held on a warm Saturday night, May 5th, and it was definitely a
memorable experience, since it was the first symphony concert that I have ever attended in my life.
The whole atmosphere was very engaging and the music itself was very different in an insightful way.
Over the course of the concert, five pieces were played as Sameer Patel conducted. Each piece was
incredibly unique in their own way and did associate themselves together and also to many of the
concepts we have learned in class. The concert overall was astonishing that I enjoyed every second of
it and will now attend as many more symphonies as I can. All five pieces seemed to correlate together
in some way, however each one also contained original ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sound painting is also displayed in many of the works. The entire pieces except Stravinsky s I would
say are undoubtedly romantic works. An additional unifying theme that I detected in all the pieces was
that there lies unconventional beauty and one must carefully listen to recognize its presence. The
symphonies performed were constructed by well renowned composers such as Arnold Schoenberg,
Olivier Messiaen, Igor Stravinsky and other compelling composers as well. Many of these composers
led overwhelming lives that clearly influenced their works. The symphonies drew the listeners closer
and closer to their rich and bold sounds. For instance, Schoenberg s famous emancipation of
dissonance was reflective in his Five Pieces for Orchestra . He derived the intriguing concept of
dissonance and presented this as it was his first atonal piece. The colors and sharp sounds were very
dynamic. The first four pieces I would say are programmatic and Stravinsky s pieces are absolute; he
made a clear reference to classical music. However it is important to note how Schoenberg intended
his piece to be non programmatic in order to focus more on the evolved music he had created. On the
other hand his titles

Disney World Essay
My first trip to Disney World, now that, that was a memorable trip. That trip was one of the most
magical and happiest memories of my life. It was back in 2008, I had just turned 6 years old a few
months before we left to go there. It was summertime, and the weather was perfect. I remember being
so bored on the way there because I am an only child so I didn t have anyone to entertain me besides
myself. My mom s side of the family went on this trip with us, and at the time I was the only grandkid,
and the only kid at all. So once we finally were almost there I remember passing the big Welcome to
Disney World sign and being so excited I peed my pants my mom was pretty mad, but my dad thought
it was kinda funny so I didn t get in too much trouble. Anyways, so we checked in and got our room
and our super cool disney cups and were all set. It was night time by the time we got there that day so
we didn t really get to do much that day. So the next day we all got up and got ready for Hollywood
Studios which is the part where all the disney movies are turned into games and rides. That day was
super fun, most likely because growing up I didn t really watch anything besides disney movies or
shows. So as the day went on I started getting sleepy but I was pushing through the sleepiness because
I mean come on, I was at Disney World! This place was awesome! So we ride a few more rides and
then my parents decide it s time to head back to our room and eat some dinner. The next day

Essay On Sacred Heart Vs Notre Dame Hockey Game
On Thursday, October 19, I attended the Sacred Heart versus Notre Dame hockey game. I have
previously attended hockey games at Compton Family Ice Arena both in and out of the student
section. However, this experience was slightly different than my previous ones since many students
were still away for fall break. The lack of students created a much different atmosphere especially
because at Notre Dame Hockey games the crowd tends to feed off the excitement of students. This
was obvious during certain songs such as Turn Down for What by DJ Snake and Lil Jon which elicits
strong responses from students but created little excitement minus the students. However, the crowd
did feed off the band. The crowd joined in during let s go Irish ... Show more content on

The first was the constant matchup graphic on the ribbon board as I found the animation kind of
distracting throughout the game. It would be helpful if the players on the ice were shown with their
statistics similar to the way it is done at both men s and women s basketball games, however, I also
understand that may be unrealistic in hockey since there are such quick line changes. Another possible
area of improvement is the intro video. It felt very generic compared to the ones that I m used to
seeing for Notre Dame sports. Unlike this year s intro videos at volleyball (which features team
expectations matched with player highlights) and football (which focuses on the excellence and
tradition of the program), the only words in the hockey intro video were what a hit and takes a shot
which seem like placeholders for something more. Since this team did reach the Frozen Four last year,
I expected the intro video to build on last year s excellence or how they succeeded despite having one
of the lowest seeds in the tournament. Another big aspect of in game entertainment at hockey is the
intermissions. At this game, the first intermission was filled by a youth hockey league playing. I really
enjoyed watching all the little kids play hockey. It involved the community and created positive
memories for the kids and their parents. The second intermission was used for the Slap Shot contest.

Kenner Vs Sinclair
In America, from the early 1900 s to the present, meatpacking industries have changed in large
increments, however, their intentions of providing copious amounts of meat for a cheap price have
lived on. As muckrakers, Upton Sinclair, author of The Jungle, and Robert Kenner, director of the film
Food, Inc., have targeted the American meat packaging plants. They accomplish this by meeting the
common goal of creating awareness for the people of the U.S. about what the citizens are actually
consuming. Despite the parallel goal they share and multiple similarities as to how they both expose
the meat packaging plants of the U.S., many differences stand due to the contrasting time in which

However, my opinions about the meat I eat from the processing plants have not changed in the long
run. As a consumer and thinker, I would like to believe that the food I eat is as fresh as possible
containing little too no preservatives. Despite the fact that after reading and watching the works of
America s muckrakers I know that eating meat without chemicals in it is highly unlikely, yet I still
have not changed what meat I eat and where I consume that meat. The novel entitled, The Jungle, by
Upton Sinclair, and the film Food, Inc., by Robert Kenner, target the corrupt and unfair meat
packaging plants of America to create awareness around the country as to what the conditions in the
factories are like, and to give insight about the quality of the meat. The two muckraker s worked hard
in their respective time to deliver the best information to the people in the way that they consider to be

Should Chemical Castration be performed on Sex Offenders?
Okay suppose your five year old daughter was brutally attacked and raped by a known sex offender,
would you rather the offender to be sentenced to a few years in prison, only to get out and destroy

injecting male sex offenders female hormones to eliminate their sex drive. Honestly until someone is

According to Justice Minister John Hatzistergos, Chemical castrations is nonsense and does not work
properly because it only treats the physical urge . However, for 94.7% of treated heterosexuals to have
no repeat offenses in 17 years is substantial. An article in the Crime Times a study in Germany
compared 99 surgically castrated individuals and 35 non castrated individuals for 10 years after
release. The recidivism rate for the castrated men was 3% compared to 46% non castrated men. These
are VERY substantial numbers and even though surgical castration is more severe the end results for
chemical vs. surgical are very similar, and a very good argument can be made for the humanity of
chemical castration. The researchers report that all of their subjects showed marked reductions in
outward directed anger during the experiment, while half exhibited reductions in anxiety and sexual
desire. This suggests, they say, quot;Measures of outward directed anger are most sensitive to small
reductions in circulating testosterone concentrations. quot; In some states, prisoners have begged the
states to chemically castrate them with the states actually refusing. In Texas, Larry Don McQuay
begged the state to give him the drug stating that he had molested some 200 children and would do it
again if he were released. Johns Hopkins University found a recidivism rate of 65%

A Study On Polycystic Kidney Disease ( Pkd )
Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is a genetic disorder primarily affecting the kidneys. It is
characterized by growth of numerous cysts on the kidneys (McPhee, Papadakis Rabow, 2014). The
kidneys primary job is to filter the waste products from the blood into urine and ultimately out of the
body. The cysts are primarily fluid filled and when they become enlarged, they interfere the normal
functioning of the kidneys, leading to enlarged kidney (McPhee et al., 2014). When the enlarged
kidney stops properly functioning leading kidney failure. It may take years before the kidneys totally
loose function and then require dialysis, which is in only about half of the patients diagnosed with
PKD. According to National Kidney and Urologic Diseases Information Clearing House (NKUDIC)
(2007), mutations in genes PKD1, PKD2 and PKHD1 cause polycystic kidney disease. Defects in the
formation of epithelial cells and their cilium result in cyst formation and obstruction that is followed
by destruction of renal parenchyma, interstitial fibrosis, and loss of functional nephrons (McCance,
Heuther, Brasher, 2014). The renal, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular organs are the
most common systems affected by PKD (McPhee et al., 2014).
There are two major inherited forms of PKD. One is autosomal dominant PKD and the other is
autosomal recessive PKD. According to National Human Genomic Research Institute (2013),
autosomal dominant is the most common form of inheritance. To

Literature Review On The Sound Of Music
Anukaran Jain
The Sound of Music Review
What makes a musical appealing? Perhaps it is the melodious songs that leave a lasting impression, or
maybe its appeal lies in its dramatic acting that touches the hearts of its audience. Nonetheless in the
case of Sound of Music, by Howard Lindsay and Richard Crouse, this musical spectacle proves itself
by crafting a complete narrative, having an accomplished and versatile cast, and strongly relating to
the audience.
In order for a musical to capture the attention of its audience, the mix between music and acting have
to be perfect. The Sound of Music gets around this problem by flawlessly integrating songs with the
story to create a truly unique and complete narrative. This can be shown by the pairing of at least one
song with every scene. Furthermore each song adds to the existing storyline in order to further refine
it. For instance, in Scene 5, when Maria, played by Jill Christine Wiley, meets the children of the Von
Trapp family, she teaches them about music. Hence the song Do Re me is sung by the characters. Not
only is this song a part of the musical, but it also adds to the performance by being used as a means to
enlighten the children about the Sound of Music. Another example is that of the song in scene 6, when
Rolf and Lisel, played by Chad B Campbell and Keslie Ward respectively, secretly meet up and sing
and dance in the rain. Again, the piece, Sixteen Going on Seventeen acts as an apparatus for adding to
the plotline by

Shewan has composed music for various medias including orchestras, ensembles, and choirs. In
Biography of Stephen Shewan , Jubal Press claims he has the unique ability to join atonal technique
with romanticism, resulting in music that is much more than mere mental manipulation of pitches. It is
highly evocative and expressive. Numerous critics believe Shewan shows a well developed
understanding of choral voice and properly uses a comfortable command of both lyrical expression
and varied romantic to modern harmonization. Stephen Shewan is a considerable composer who
deserves a wide audience, and that is why his music doesn t fall under one category (Jubal Press).
Lastly, Juraj Filas Concerto for Horn and Wind Orchestra was composed during the early twenty first
century. Like the twentieth century, modern composers search for exciting and different modes of
expression. Unusual harmonies, tonal schemes, and the manipulation of rhythms create unique styles
of music. However, some of the greatest composers stick to the traditional forms of music that way an

However, not only Iran s nuclear activities catered for suspicion among the international community.
Ahmadinejad s exclamation, to wipe Israel off the map particularly affected the U.S. approach, with
Israel being the U.S. most important ally in the region. Even though China was forced to ban military

Prejudice here refers to patriarchal society (both men and women) who believe that women are the subsequent sex. Second verse strengthens the first, that Gilman s attempt to attain equality was not a simple thing to do with her limit time and vigor. • 6. Les Miserables Inequality The Eternal Inequality Within Society Former President of South Africa and anti apartheid revolutionary, Nelson Mandela, once stated that as long as poverty, injustice, and gross inequality persist in our world, none of us can truly rest. This statement is accurately displayed through victor Hugo s novel, Les Miserables, where Hugo uses the fictional story of poverty and loss to convey a message consisting of the fact that in order for the impoverished to become prosperous, they must receive continuous aid for society to progress as a whole. In both Hugo s novel as well as the non fiction articles about hazardous factories in Bangladesh, the primary social crisis that has persisted throughout hundreds of years is the glaring social inequity between the high and low social classes, such as the American factory owners and the poor, unprotected Bangladeshi workers. Nonetheless, through Hugo s romanticist and utopian ideals, he demonstrates that in order to combat drastic inequality, more prosperous classes must aid the less fortunate and unprotected lower classes in order to establish a more equitable and enlightened society. A seemingly never ending issue that plagues human civilizations is the disparity between social classes, which inevitably tears societies apart while also, most literally, crushing the lower working classes to pieces. This poem was written in 1960 by a woman named Gwendolyn Brooks. In this paper three topics have been selected so that this poem will be able to be analyzed. With each element, it will de discussed how those elements affected and interested me while reading. The three elements that have been written about are form, language, and content. Form, in poetry, can be understood as the physical structure of the poem: the length of the lines, their rhythms, their system of rhymes and repetition (The Poetry Archive, 2005 2010). As it was mentioned previously, the most interesting part about this poem is the We . Gwendolyn is a very enjoyable sounding writer. She has a very strong pronunciation and the age in her voice helps with the passionate sound of the reading. As a child, he listened to their albums on cassette tapes in the car, and as a college student, he attended live performances. The Grateful Dead debuted in 1965 in Palo Alto, CA. It was known for its eclectic, psychedelic rock style, which was sculpted amid the San Franciscan countercultural movement of the 1960s. The movement gained speed alongside the civil rights movement and hippie culture. The song s story follows a young man, walking around the local square, who is entranced by a young woman with scarlet begonias tucked into her curls (Grateful Dead). She also had rings on her fingers and bells on her shoes, a line that has stuck with Mike because of how the image reminds him of the 70s, and as an extension, the ideas of freedom and being carefree. Mike doesn t have much of an opinion about the lyrics of Fire on the Mountain , but he does love the rhythm and the bass guitar because it just makes anybody want to dance (Michael Peller). However, I found the lyrics to be meaningful in ways related to Mike s enjoyment of the song. The line, fire, fire on the mountain , is repeated throughout the song, and almost sounds like an urgent call for help. Despite this, the beat and music rolls on. The song pokes fun at a long distance runner who continues to make and dance to music even as a dragon with matches is loose on the town . • 15. Storytelling and Its Relevance Storytelling and its relevance Storytelling is, as a concept, built upon the fundamental question of why. From the dawn of civilization to the marketing activities of a silicon valley technology company, the success of every endeavor in between can be traced to the resolution of this fundamental question. Storytelling is one of the few human traits that are truly universal across culture and through all of known history, writes Jeremy Hsu for Scientific American . Anthropologists find evidence of folktales everywhere in ancient cultures, written in Sanskrit, Latin, Greek, Chinese, Egyptian and Sumerian. People in societies of all types weave narratives, from oral storytellers in hunter gatherer tribes to the millions of writers churning out books, television shows and movies. In his book The Triumph of Narrative, Robert Fulford writes about the historical significance of narratives and their impact on culture through time and generations. When ancient man s crop failed, for example, he wanted to know why. To the non scientific mind, the most compelling explanations arose in the form of religion; crops failed because the gods were unhappy and required tribute. The power of these stories, as mentioned, lies in the fact that on some level in the consciousness of the audience they make sense they resolve the question of why and provide explanation for the happenings around the brain. • 17. The Utility of Deterrence as a Central Nuclear Security... Understanding what role exists for nuclear weapons in the post Cold War world requires an appreciation for the strategic concepts that defined Cold War nuclear strategy, as well as the applicability of those concepts to the contemporary world. Cold War nuclear strategy was almost entirely concerned with the bilateral relationship between the United States and the Soviet Union, and thus the central strategic concept to arise from this period was the notion of deterrence. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the ongoing proliferation of nuclear weapons, the utility of deterrence as a central nuclear security strategy is in question, even as the threat posed by the mere existence of nuclear weapons increases. By 1997, at least ten countries had missiles capable of delivering nuclear payloads over 500 kilometers, and nearly every country without intercontinental capability is working on it (Stanley Payne 1997, p. 133). Furthermore, some countries with nuclear capabilities, such as Pakistan, are seeing a serious threat to internal security, increasing the likelihood that nuclear weapons will find their way into the hands of transnational terrorist organizations and other actors far less susceptible to strategies of deterrence. By examining both the state of nuclear security during the Cold War and the concept of deterrence in general in the context of contemporary security issues, it becomes clear that there is no secure place for nuclear weapons in the post Cold ... Factors Driving Germany To War Essay There are four main factors that could have driven Germany s decision to go to war; firstly due to fear of encirclement , secondly that she was pulled into war by a web of alliances, thirdly that she entered war for imperial reasons, and lastly that she entered war as a result of social pressure. However one must consider the degree to which each of these factors effected Germany s decision to go to war, and that the principle reasoning is a conjunction of both social pressure and fear of encirclement. Furthermore, Gerhard Ritter has argued that German aims in 1914 were essentially defensive and that what Bethmann Hollweg hoped for was at best a diplomatic victory which would split the entente , showing her desire to break the encirclement. The intent of German policy was to drive a wedge between Britain and France, whom together were a great check against German power in Europe. Yet the Russian threat from the east compounded the fears of the Anglo French alliance, and as Otto von Volderndorff stated, we must confine ourselves to securing our country against the two neighbours [France and Russia] . Further historiographical support for this theory comes from Andreas Hillgruber , who argues that Germany sought to break the Triple Entente by encouraging Austria to invade Serbia and provoke a crisis that concerned only Russia, and in doing so hope that neither Britain nor France felt compelled to enter the conflict, leaving Russia isolated and to eventually reach an agreement with Germany. This theory is quite compelling as it serves both to explain Germany s quick support of Austria, and to match Germany s concern of the Triple Entente. Although definitions vary and some individual works may blur the distinction between one branch and another, most fantastic or speculative stories and novels can by general consensus be placed in one of the three categories. • 25. Analysis Of The Magdalene Sisters Directed by Peter Mullan in 2002, The Magdalene Sisters, focuses on four young women s experiences in a Dublin Magdalen Laundry from 1964 to 1968. Through telling the story of Margaret, Patricia, Bernadette and Harriet, all considered to be sexually deviant and subsequently imprisoned in a convent, Mullan s movie graphically depicts the systematic punishment and demoralization of young women at the hands of their unforgiving parents, the state, the Catholic Church as well as the community in denial. Though each woman has a different story both before and during their stay in the laundry, the film reveals that they were victims to deep, unflinching religious beliefs and a deep seated contempt for and fear of female sexuality, a dark and oppressive aspect of Irish society in the 19th and 20th centuries. Although the entire movie authentically depicts how church, state, family and community colluded in, and therefore share culpability for, the abuse of women in Magdalen laundries, specific scenes, such as the rape in the opening wedding scene, the Corpus Christi festival and the emotional abuse in the shower scene highlight the shame and embarrassment as well as oppression that women faced in Ireland in the mid 20th century. I have previously attended hockey games at Compton Family Ice Arena both in and out of the student section. However, this experience was slightly different than my previous ones since many students were still away for fall break. The lack of students created a much different atmosphere especially because at Notre Dame Hockey games the crowd tends to feed off the excitement of students. This was obvious during certain songs such as Turn Down for What by DJ Snake and Lil Jon which elicits strong responses from students but created little excitement minus the students. However, the crowd did feed off the band. The crowd joined in during let s go Irish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first was the constant matchup graphic on the ribbon board as I found the animation kind of distracting throughout the game. It would be helpful if the players on the ice were shown with their statistics similar to the way it is done at both men s and women s basketball games, however, I also understand that may be unrealistic in hockey since there are such quick line changes. Another possible area of improvement is the intro video. It felt very generic compared to the ones that I m used to seeing for Notre Dame sports. Unlike this year s intro videos at volleyball (which features team expectations matched with player highlights) and football (which focuses on the excellence and tradition of the program), the only words in the hockey intro video were what a hit and takes a shot which seem like placeholders for something more. Since this team did reach the Frozen Four last year, I expected the intro video to build on last year s excellence or how they succeeded despite having one of the lowest seeds in the tournament. Another big aspect of in game entertainment at hockey is the intermissions. At this game, the first intermission was filled by a youth hockey league playing. I really enjoyed watching all the little kids play hockey. It involved the community and created positive memories for the kids and their parents. The second intermission was used for the Slap Shot contest. The Slap Shot contest is always fun and really engages the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. A Study On Polycystic Kidney Disease ( Pkd ) Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is a genetic disorder primarily affecting the kidneys. It is characterized by growth of numerous cysts on the kidneys (McPhee, Papadakis Rabow, 2014). The kidneys primary job is to filter the waste products from the blood into urine and ultimately out of the body. The cysts are primarily fluid filled and when they become enlarged, they interfere the normal functioning of the kidneys, leading to enlarged kidney (McPhee et al., 2014). When the enlarged kidney stops properly functioning leading kidney failure. It may take years before the kidneys totally loose function and then require dialysis, which is in only about half of the patients diagnosed with PKD. According to National Kidney and Urologic Diseases Information Clearing House (NKUDIC) (2007), mutations in genes PKD1, PKD2 and PKHD1 cause polycystic kidney disease. Defects in the formation of epithelial cells and their cilium result in cyst formation and obstruction that is followed by destruction of renal parenchyma, interstitial fibrosis, and loss of functional nephrons (McCance, Heuther, Brasher, 2014). The renal, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular organs are the most common systems affected by PKD (McPhee et al., 2014). There are two major inherited forms of PKD. One is autosomal dominant PKD and the other is autosomal recessive PKD. According to National Human Genomic Research Institute (2013), autosomal dominant is the most common form of inheritance. • 36. Literature Review On The Sound Of Music Anukaran Jain The Sound of Music Review What makes a musical appealing? Perhaps it is the melodious songs that leave a lasting impression, or maybe its appeal lies in its dramatic acting that touches the hearts of its audience. Nonetheless in the case of Sound of Music, by Howard Lindsay and Richard Crouse, this musical spectacle proves itself by crafting a complete narrative, having an accomplished and versatile cast, and strongly relating to the audience. In order for a musical to capture the attention of its audience, the mix between music and acting have to be perfect. The Sound of Music gets around this problem by flawlessly integrating songs with the story to create a truly unique and complete narrative. This can be shown by the pairing of at least one song with every scene. Furthermore each song adds to the existing storyline in order to further refine it. For instance, in Scene 5, when Maria, played by Jill Christine Wiley, meets the children of the Von Trapp family, she teaches them about music. Hence the song Do Re me is sung by the characters. Not only is this song a part of the musical, but it also adds to the performance by being used as a means to enlighten the children about the Sound of Music. Another example is that of the song in scene 6, when Rolf and Lisel, played by Chad B Campbell and Keslie Ward respectively, secretly meet up and sing and dance in the rain. Again, the piece, Sixteen Going on Seventeen acts as an apparatus for adding to the plotline by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
