Essay on Fine Arts Education Issues
Fine Arts Education Issues
According to the National Art Education Association s goals for schools, all elementary schools shall
require students to complete a sequential program of art instruction that integrates the study of art
production, aesthetics, art criticism, and art history, (Clark, 1987). Elementary schools are having
difficulty because they are cutting back on the fine arts programming and many non specialist
classroom teachers are expected to integrate the fine arts into their daily curriculum. Most of these
teachers feel inadequate and uncomfortable when teaching these subjects. The children are receiving
inadequate lessons in art education. All elementary schools should expand their curriculum to include

Will teachers have the money...more often than not, the answer is no, (Reardon, 1995). When budget
cuts are underway in school systems, the allotted amount of money for fine arts education is the first
to be reduced. Fine arts education should be considered a core subject in elementary schools. All
budgeting should be done so that all core areas receive an equal amount of money.
Because the fine arts are given a lower status than the traditional core subjects, schools fail to hire
licensed arts specialists. Schools then burden their classroom teachers by implementing poor quality
arts programs into their daily routines to fulfill certain art expectations. This not only discourages and
takes time away from classroom teachers, but also misrepresents the fine arts. Even when a fine arts
specialist is hired, they often are pushed into trying to teach other areas of art than what they were
hired for. In some cases, the requirements for becoming an arts specialist are so relaxed that many
communities don t believe that the fine arts should be taken very seriously. Luckily, national reports
are pushing for higher standards to become a fine arts specialist.
Impact on Students
It has been argued that the arts promote skills and abilities such as problem solving, teamwork, goal

Comparing Two Death Poems
In Emily Dickinson s poems I heard a Fly buzz when I died and Because I could not stop for Death
both have to do with death. Sadly those are the only similarities in the two poems. Although the two
poems were written less than a year apart they both have a different perspective of death in both of
them. I heard a Fly buzz when I died talks about death at the moment and Because I could not stop for
Death has to do with after death.
In I heard a fly buzz when I died Dickinson talks about death at the current moment of the deathbed.
The speaker starts by saying I heard a fly buzz when I died. Dickinson leaves the fly for a while and
talks about the scene of the death. The room is very quiet and calm. She says The Stillness in the
Room/ Was like the Stillness in the Air / Between the heaven of the storm after telling us about the
atmosphere of the room she tells us about the people and how dried their eyes were. The speaker tells
us that there used to be crying, but now there is only stillness in the room. After talking about ... Show

The speaker also includes that the carriage includes her and death in the carriage. Dissimilar to the
other poem death is not a journey. She continues with the poem saying that the carriage is going really
slow. She has put away her free time and labor for his civility. She goes on to describe things she
passed like the school, fields of gazing grains and the setting sun. Dickinson uses that to describe three
stages of life; childhood, adulthood, and old age. In the other poem Dickinson does not describe those
stages. The sun passes her and is going down when they have reached the grave. Lastly the speaker is
placed in the future. We as the reader realized that she speaks from eternity. The other poem did not
talk about this journey, it was more focused on the moment of

Results
The final sample population of 303 beneficiaries received palliative radiation treatment in 2014 to
bone metastases. Of those 303 beneficiaries, 24 beneficiaries (7.92%) had single fraction treatments
and 279 beneficiaries (92.1%) had multi fraction treatments. The majority were 65 75 years of age
(n=129; 42.6%) and 76 85 years of age (n=106; 35%). The mean age was 73.3 years, and the majority
were Caucasian (n=276; 91.1%). The majority of all radiation treatments are in the Southeast (n=123;
40.6%) and gender was mostly balanced, with slightly more males than females. Overall, in our study
the most common type of primary cancer to receive radiation for bone metastases are those with a
primary diagnosis of lung cancer. Table 1 titled Demographic and Primary Malignancy
Characteristics, provides a summary of the demographics.
Of the 25 beneficiaries that received a single fraction course of treatment, the most common site of
primary diagnosis was lung (n=10; 55.6%), prostate (n=3; 16.7%) and kidney (n=2; 11.1%). The mean
age was 74.5 years and gender was proportionate. The majority of patients were from the southeast
region (n=12; 50%) of the US. Most beneficiaries were in the age group 76 85 (n=12; 50%), followed
by 65 75 year olds (n =8; 33.3%).
Of the 278 beneficiaries that received multi fraction course of treatment, the most common primary
diagnosis was lung (n=57; 24.3%), prostate (n=52; 22.1%) and breast (n=48; 20.4%). The mean age
was 73.6 years of age and

Validity In Qualitative Research
Validity is related to the meaningfulness of the key components of the research. When the researcher
seeks to measure behaviour, they are concerned with ensuring they are measuring what they actually
intend to measure. Although questions related to validity cannot be answered with complete certainty,
the researcher can develop a strong case for the validity of their data. One of the most commonly used
measures of validity is internal validity, which questions whether there is a relationship, and if there is
one, whether it is causal or not. Internal validity justifies itself; however, there are a number of threats
to the internal validity of a research design such as history, maturation, testing, selection,
instrumentation, mortality, compensatory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nevertheless, with the rising trends of knowledge synthesis, meta ethnography and meta narrative, the
evaluation of generalisability is becoming more important(Leung, 2015). A pragmatic approach to
examining generalisability in qualitative studies is to adopt the same criteria for validity, which is the
use of a systematic sampling technique, adequate auditing and documentation, triangulation and multi
dimensional theory. Some scholars also support the approach of analytical generalisation, wherein one
assesses the extent to which the findings of one study can be generalised to another with proximal
similarity and similar theoretical models (Leung, 2015). Under a proximal similar model, the
generalisability of one study in respect of another is assessed on the basis of similarities in place, time,
people and other social contexts. Nevertheless, this raises questions on the suitability of meta
synthesis in respect of the basic principles of grounded theory, ethnography and phenomenology. In
this regard, it can be thus identified that any valid meta synthesis must ensure two key objectives, the
development of a theory and a higher level of abstraction, to ensure generalisability in the qualitative
research

The United States Involvement During The Vietnam War
Though out history, American has had its hand in conflict with other countries. Some of those
conflicts have turned out into wars. Looking back at America s track record with war, America has a
worthy past of having its citizen s support. Obviously the two World Wars we not controversial. The
United States in the Korean War was criticized, fairly, for its strategy, but the need to defend South
Korea was never questioned. In only the Vietnam War was the United States very participation
criticized. This is such a gigantic change with prior wars that it bears study as to why it happened, and
better yet, should have it happened. This paper will discuss the United States involvement in the
Vietnam War, by asking the simple question, Should have the Untied States gotten involved into the
first place. This paper will prove that in fact, America should have not gotten involved with the
Vietnam War. The Vietnam War took place in between 1947 1975. It consisted of North Vietnam
trying to make South Vietnam a communism government. The United States later joined this conflict
because of the stress North Vietnam was putting to South Vietnam to become a government that
America did not want. The main reason why America joined was because of a theory called the
Domino Effect. America and Russia were going through what has been dubbed the Cold War. The
Domino Effect is the theory that communism will spread form one country to another. United states
does not want this because our

Trial and Death of Socrates
Benjamin Jowett. The Trial and Death of Socrates (Dover Edition). New York: Dover Publications,
1992 What is the charge? Well, a very serious charge, which shows a good deal of character in the
young man, and for which he is certainly not to be despised. He says he knows how the youth are
corrupted and who are their corruptors. And I fancy that he must be a wise man, and seeing that I am
anything but a wise man, he has found me out, and is going to accuse me of corrupting his young
friends. And of this our mother the state is to be the judge. Of all our political men he is the only one
who seems to me to begin in the right way, with the cultivation of virtue in youth; he is a good
husbandman, and takes care of the shoots first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates begins by stating that, since Meletus claims to know who is corrupting the youth, he must
know who improves them. After some back and forth between the two men, Socrates gets Meletus to
say that all Athenians improve the youth and that Socrates is the only one who corrupts the youth.
Socrates continues to use Meletus own words against him throughout and thus making him look quite
foolish in front of the court. I have said enough in answer to the charge of Meletus: any elaborate
defence is unnecessary; but as I was saying before, I certainly have many enemies, and this is what
will be my destruction if I am destroyed; of that I am certain; not Meletus, nor yet Anytus, but the
envy and detraction of the world, which has been the death of many good men, and will probably be
the death of many more; there is no danger of mine being the last of them. (p. 29). Here Socrates, in
my opinion, shows the court again that he will turn the other cheek to his accusers and not blame
them, but instead chooses to blame what I would like to call the human condition. That is, putting your
own self interests before that of others to further your gain. This is why Socrates struggles with
anyone giving him a definition of piety, because I think that to Socrates piety means acting altruistic.
Since the human condition is that of self serving your own interests, he sees through peoples
definitions because he knows that they

My Passion Of Music As A Passion For Music
In the Guardians of the Galaxy, Peter Quill, played by Chris Pratt, had a love for music. It helped him
grieve when his mom died and music continued to be one of the most important things in his life.
When he was fighting mutant aliens, he plugged in his headphones and let his life have a soundtrack.
Ever since I was little, like Peter Quill, I had a passion for music. Whether I was playing an
instrument, singing, or just listening to it, music has played a huge role in my life. It has helped me
through the bad times and the good times. In my life, music has become a major part of my identity.
It all began in junior high when I took a couple instruments for a test drive. I loved the way the sticks
pounded on drums and the way the oboe squeaked like a mouse. In the end, I chose the saxophone. I
love the way my fingers glided over the keys as a jazzy flow of music poured out. Don t get me wrong
though because it took me a while before I fully became advanced. I give credit to my sister for my
passion for music. I looked up to her(even if I don t want to admit it). Filled with admiration, I
witnessed her becoming drum major, being student director for the musical and getting solos in choir.
At one time, I wanted to be just like her when I grew up. Fast forward a couple years, she s currently
at college to become a music teacher.
All throughout high school, music has been substantial part in my life. Being in Madrigals, a special

Susan B Anthony Speech Summary
MATILDA JOSLYN GAGE: forgotten feminist
Introduced by Susan B. Anthony at the International Council of Women in 1888, Matilda Josyln Gage
began her speech with a brief sketch of her early entry into the suffrage movement: I have frequently
been asked what first turned by thoughts towards woman s rights. I think I was born with a hatred of
oppression, and, too, in my father s house, I was trained in the anti slavery ranks, for it was one of the
stations on the underground railway, and a home of anti slavery speakers. Well I remember the wonder
with which, when a young girl, I looked upon Abby Kelly, when she spoke of the wrongs of black
women and black men. Then I remember, before the Round House in my city of Syracuse was

But I was entirely ignorant of all parliamentary rule, or what was necessary to be done. I prepared my
speech, and going to the convention, sat near the front, and with a palpitating heart waited until I
obtained courage to go upon the platform, probably to the interference of arrangements, for I knew
nothing about the proper course for me to take. But I was so sweetly welcomed by the sainted Lucretia
Mott, who gave me a place, and, when I had finished speaking, referred so pleasantly to what I had
said, and to her my heart turned always with truest affection.
Soon after the close of the convention, almost immediately afterwards, it was criticized from the pulpit
by the Rev. Mr. Ashley, of the Episcopal Church, and Rev. Mr. Sunderland, now of this city, but then
established at Syracuse. With the latter gentleman I carried on a long newspaper controversy. As Miss
Grew has truly said, it is not religion that has opposed woman suffrage, because true religion believes
in undoing the heavy burdens and letting the oppressed go free. But from the church and from
theology this reform has met opposition at every step.
It was Gage s outspoken opposition to the bigotry of Christian theology that would eventually cost her
dearly. The price of liberty to Matilda Joslyn Gage

White Tigers From The Woman Warrior Essay
Maxine Hong Kingston once said, I ve been writing since I was 7, but before that, I was orally making
stories. This quote expresses Kingston s fervor for writing and storytelling outside of her short story
White Tigers from the Woman Warrior , which emphasizes the importance of literature, which is her
art, by retelling her own childhood as the fairy tale of the Woman Warrior, Fa Mu Lan, and connecting
it back to her own life. The introductory paragraphs, coupled with the word carving scene and the
concluding final paragraphs, evoke Fa Mu Lan and present Maxine s life as analogous to Fa Mu Lan s
life story. While it is understood that they did not know each other, Maxine complicates this
relationship , for lack of a better word, by using a first person narrative as opposed to a third person
narrative while retelling the fairy tale , which in turn complicates subjectivity of Maxine, and the
relationship between Maxine and Fa Mu Lan. Moreover, the words in the word carving scene in the
middle of the fairy tale are double symbols of suffering and of perfect filiality, which is a trait
common in Chinese culture. By and large, these early on passages, and each section from there on,
and the word cutting scene, utilize the literary devices of point of view and central symbol to influence
the audience to acknowledge Maxine s claim that Fa Mu Lan is her model, and that she, Maxine, is
fruitful in taking after her case since they both have words at their backs.

The Perception Of Mortality In Albert Camus s The Stranger
Mortality is a concept that can shadow a person s philosophy on life, and heavily influences the
behaviors and motivations of literary characters. Human beings question mortality and what it means
in alignment to the purpose and significance of living. Many of the character in the catalog of our
reading this semester have self made philosophies on mortality that manifest in the thought processes
of characters and direction their stories and lives take. The way that characters comprehend mortality
proves itself to be a major influence on the behaviors and motivations that are integral to these novels.
You see mortality through the lens of chance, existentialism, religion, violence, even as the catalyst for
appreciating life. The interpretations of mortality are often shaped by the experiences we go through,
and this holds true in complicated, simple, and unique texts. In Albert Camus The Stranger, Meursault
believes that life is meaningless in the face of death; it Is assured that every human will die, so the
choices we make in this lifetime have little relevance or meaning. This theory that one life was as
good as another (Camus, 22) governs much of this novel. The first lines introduce the passing of
Meursault s mother, immediately informing the reader of the apathy he shows where most people
would react with grief and reflect on the sadness of the situation, Meursault reacts indifferently with
That doesn t mean anything (Camus, 1). This is not a direct reflection

Differences Between Judaism And Judaism
Judaism has a concrete connection to the development of Christianity which has influenced the
teachings of the religion that would not be made possible without its presence. There are similarities
between the Christian faiths to Judaism from how the religions are practiced to the hymns that are
shared between the two. A primary difference is the historical background to the discovery of the
religions. Another difference would be the sacred text that are used in prayer considering Judaism uses
the Hebrew bible and Christians use the New Testament. The Hebrew bible is referred to as the Old
Testament yet that might not be the case according to Jews. A similarity from the two religions is the
fact that they are both monotheism which is the belief that there is only one God. Yet the two differ on
the beliefs on the one that is called God or the divine. Another fascinating similarity that the two share
are the Ten Commandments. The commandments were discovered by Moses on two tablets which has
been practice by Jews primarily. The adaptation of the commandments were carried over into the New
Testament. Considering most of the Hebrew Bible shares a cross connection into the New testament it
is clear that it would not have been created without the influence of Judaism.
Judaism is a temple based religion that is practice in a synagogue that originated in Israel. Moses was
the first author to the scrolls called the Torah. The verbal teachings of Judaism was how Moses spread

The Messages Of Langston Hughes s Poetry
Poetry is a way for people to express themselves. Written in stanzas, there is much more art to it than
simply putting words down on paper so they sound nice. Poets keep in mind the syllable count, the
rhyme scheme, the order of unstressed and stressed syllables, and many more techniques, depending
on the type of poem. Also, every poem has a unique, powerful message. Langston Hughes was a
recent American poet who wrote countless quality works, many of which have an enduring impact.
On February 1, 1902, one of the greatest poets of the twentieth century, James Mercer Langston
Hughes, was born in Joplin, Missouri. His father left for Mexico when Hughes was one, and his
mother traveled to find work as a teacher, so he was raised by his grandmother. ... Show more content

He uses a free verse format, with only two pairs of rhyming lines out of eighteen lines. He utilizes two

metaphor, I am the darker brother, (Hughes) to symbolize his skin color. He writes about how black
people were constantly controlled by the superior white race. However, he eventually became
independent and slightly vengeful. This is demonstrated in the hyperbole, Besides, they ll see how
beautiful I am and be ashamed (Hughes). Finally, in the last line, Hughes uses America as a nation to

The New America Dream is Green (and Sustainable) Essay
Smallville is a city just like any other city in the world. It has crime, pollution, and social inequalities.
However citizens everywhere are dreaming of the future. The reason people came to Smallville, or
America, in the first place was to live the American Dream. This idea is that if a person works hard
enough they can be or achieve anything they want. However, the current system of selfishness and
ignorance of the masses has led to the destruction of this idea. In order for these dreams to survive,
Smallville needs to promote change. There needs to be more information about the effects people have
on their communities and the environment. There needs to be a shift towards long term sustainability.

Every individual needs to change the way they view themselves and those around them. In the United
States there is this idea written in the constitution called The Pursuit of Happiness. It basically means
that in America you have the chance to live how you want to, or what is referred to as the American
Dream. Overtime this dream has become too selfish, meaning that people only seek to make
themselves happy regardless of those around them. When a community is more open and accepting
there will be less conflicts. The reason this needs to happen on the individual level is that everyone
needs to be on board for real change to occur successfully in Smallville. The first thing that needs to
change about the individual is the idea of respect. If everyone can learn to respect themselves and
those around them, even for differing views, the community can work together a lot easier. Then the
next thing that would need to change about the individual would be the way they live their lives. Each
citizen would need to change their eating habits, their energy use habits, and overall lifestyle habits.
Then finally, the individual will need to find their place in society. Once they realize how connected to
the community they are and how much damage they do to it, they can learn what they need to do to fix
it. One thing they could do to fix it is practice vegetarianism. They could also walk to work or the
stores instead of using their car. Finally, the government needs to be involved

What Were The Consequences Of German Imperialism
Germans undertook extensive colonialism in south west Africa, and decided that the land should no
longer belong to the native people. 1880, saw the German s in control of a colony with large amounts
of natives on the land. At this time there were two major native African ethnic groups present. The
Nama or Namaqua, which had a population of around twenty thousand people, and the Herero a group
of cattle herders, which contained around seventy five thousand people. German colonial rule was
harsh and brutal, any type of resistance was met with brutality and severe consequences. The clash
between cultures would lead to a four year war that ended with the systematic murder and
extermination of the ethnic groups: Nama, and Herero. The war officially started in January of 1904
when Herero people attacked farms owned by Germans. Around one hundred and thirty people were
killed, but women, children and missionaries were left alone. The Germans soon took the upper hand
and managed to win the battle, in May of 1904, General Lothar von Trotha became commander, and

Often, when we think of a t shirt, not much consideration goes past throwing it on and walking out the

story of a t shirt she purchased in Florida for just $5.99. Beginning with core element of the t shirt, she
describes the cotton boom in the United States and why we have reigned supreme as the leading
cotton producer. She even meets with a Texan farmer who warms your heart from the very beginning

Her writing style takes into consideration those with very little economic awareness and fluidly
phrases things into layman s terms. She is able to expand on the most complex ideas, such as quotas
and tariffs in the textile industry, and still paint a complete picture in the mind of the reader.
The relevance of this book can be measured by its ability to speak to the everyday individual, who
may or may not know anything about economics, and plant the seed toward global economic
education. It provides a keen social awareness to people who may or may not ordinarily care about
international economics and can have an eye opening effect toward what really happens in the textile
industry.
Rivoli also raises some substantial points about free trade and protectionism. After the facts are
presented, she identifies that most of these alleged free markets aren t actually free at all. She explains
that quotas, political relationships, and labor issues make these markets restricted from being
completely free. She writes a story of the wealth enhancing possibilities of globalization in some
settings but a can t win trap in others, a trap where power imbalances and poorly functioning politics
and markets seem to doom the economic future.

the book ender s game written by Orson Scott Card to the movie ender s game directed by gavin hood.
Imagine that an alien species called the buggers or (formic) has attacked earth twice in the last 50
years and almost wiped out the human species. The world government needs to prepare a general to be
ready for the next invasion. Ender s game is about a boy named ender who goes to a space station
military school and learns how to be a commander. He becomes the best commander in his school and
moves to this asteroid called eros. There he plays a simulation where he learns how to kill the buggers
(or formics) and eventually destroys the whole planet. The teachers tell him that the simulations were
real and he had killed the whole planet and wiped them out completely. He feels guilty and flies to the
planet and to colonize it with his sister and others. He finds a bugger (or formic) cocoon. There he
then goes to the end of the galaxy trying to find a planet for the buggers (or formic) to live again. ...

The movie changes the alien s name from buggers to formics. The movie also takes out the scene
where ender breaks a kids arm and replaces it with a kid throwing up. In the book ender s brother and
sister create online profiles with fake names and write political articles which build up a lot of online
support but in the movie there is no mention of it. In the book it demonstrates how ender went from 6
two 21 throughout the book but in the movie it starts when he was around 10 and has a period of
around 6 months. In the book it shows how isolated ender was but in the movie he makes friends
really quickly. In the book gavin hood decides to remove the scene where ender goes to the alien
planet to make a new home for humans. Gavin hood replaces this by leaving the audience on a cliff

Essay The Jilting Of Granny Weatherall and A Worn Path
The short stories, The Jilting of Granny Weatherall by Catherine Anne Porter and A Worn Path by
Eudora Welty, have many similarities as well as differences. Both stories have a simple plot with a
theme that is symbolic of their lives. These stories include great characterization, description of
elements in the stories, and the point of view.
Granny Weatherall is characterized as a very old lady who is extremely stubborn and bedridden.
Granny Weatherall is a sickly old lady in denial. She believes that she is not sick although she is lying
on her deathbed. Her life consisted of two men and her children with them. Granny Weatherall
remembers her first love, John, leaving her at the altar. She later marries George who she has many ...

Phoenix, on the other hand, was a selfish manipulative old woman who had an obsession with power.
She was on a journey through the woods to the city, where she had many encounters. When Phoenix
encounters the hunter she steals the money that falls out of his pockets. She always seems to want
something for her troubles. However, later in the story while in the hospital, Phoenix has a totally
different personality. She seems to have no guilt for the actions she makes.
The elements of both stories include a simple plot with a them that is symbolic of their lives. In The
Jilting of Granny Weatherall the plot is granny Weatherall lying in her bed remembering her life
before she dies. In A Worn Path the plot is Phoenix Jackson walking down a worn path trying to get to
the city. The memories of Granny Weatherall are all symbolic of her life flashing before her eyes or
death. The journey on the worn path, of Phoenix is symbolic of her life and how hard it has been. .
The points of view of the stories are very different; however, the two stories are similar in that they
both are first person narratives. The Jilting of Granny Weatherall is told by her, but is her reminiscing
her entire life just before she dies. Granny Weatherall is having flashbacks, which represent her past
life leading to a new infinite one. A Worn Path is told by Phoenix Jackson. This is just the story of her
encounters on they way to the city. Phoenix is telling the story as she goes along

The Epidemic Of Ebola Virus
Children around the world fear the dark because they do not understand it. Much like a child s fear of
the dark, the panic caused by the Ebola virus is largely due to misunderstanding and is often blown out
of proportion. The Ebola virus is discussed in the media because it generates hysteria, even though it
is nowhere near as threatening as it is often claimed to be. Do not make the assumption that the virus
itself is not lethal, as indeed it is one of the deadlier pathogens in the world; however, a variety of
factors contribute to making the Ebola virus a less than perfect killer; in order to know why, it is
important to understand what exactly the Ebola virus is.
In the most basic sense, Ebola has RNA as its genetic material and belongs to the virus family
Filoviridae, the same family as the Marburg virus. According to Peters and Peters (1999), Marburg
virus was first discovered in 1967. It was the first virus of the Filoviridae family uncovered; Ebola
was the second, being discovered in 1976. Ebola was initially encountered in the Democratic Republic
of the Congo, where several outbreaks of Hemorrhagic Fever were documented. Teams sent to deal
with these outbreaks found an almost total cessation of transmission. Survivors, however, provided an
excellent source of data.
The survivors demonstrated that the reason for this cessation was that the virus had killed most of the
medical staff in affected areas. The hospitals in regions such as the Congo are often subpar,

Michael Schiavo Persuasive Essay
In the year of 1990 on February 25, a presumably healthy young women by the name of Theresa
Marie Schiavo better known as Terri suffered a massive heart attack in her Florida home which left her
with serve brain damage. At the age of 26 she found herself unable to speak, or move, and
unfortunately without a living will in place. How can she have told them what she really wanted if
unable to talk in a vegetative state? Terri, although able to breathe on her own, found herself unable to
eat or use the bathroom without the aid of a machine or person she was literally a prisoner in her own

Positive Benefits Of Bilingual Education
There have been many informative studies information regarding the advantages of learning two
languages. Bilingualism is a continually growing issue in the United States. Being bilingual as a child
enhances knowledge so steps taken to promote bilingual education are very important. Children are
not exposed to bilingualism even though the benefits have been well established.
Dual Language education is increasing throughout the United States giving students at a young age an
advantage over their monolingual peers. Different research studies resulted in a major success by
proving that bilingual children outperform monolinguals in a wide array of cognitive and language
based tasks (Wallstrum 16). Dual language immersion is defined as fifty percent of the non English is
used for the instructional part of the day, and the other fifty percent is spoken in English. The purpose
of these immersion schools is to promote fluency in the foreign language while also performing at
their grade level in that language.
Parents are the main reason why kids in these modern times are only primarily speaking English.
Many people have a strong opinion against the teaching of bilingualism in America, especially starting
at a young age. The reason for this is their own ignorance. They fail to seek further information on the
topic and see the positive benefits that result. The benefits of bilingual education surprisingly are not
tolerated by everyone, and that is a big reason as to why it is not

The Negative Speech On Famine And Drought
Introduction: (Charlotte)
We would like to begin by thanking the United Nations for giving us this opportunity to speak. Joining
me today are Julia Antony, Ian Rose, and Ryan Amer. We are here to discuss the large topic of famine
and drought. Drought is defined as, A long period of time during which there is very little or no rain
(First picture). These two problems alone are some of the largest overarching issues that our world is
facing right now and have been for centuries. At this stage, no one can ignore the fact that 110 people
have died in the last 48 hours at the hand of famine and drought. (Second picture) Not to mention that
in Somalia, more than 900,000 children are malnourished; that alone is more than the entire
population of children in Connecticut. Now over to you, Julia. *transition to next slide. Body 1: (Julia)
Thanks Charlotte. Extreme rain loss in areas all over the world causes intense droughts. Multiple
complications occur when water is no longer abundant. One of the most severe conflicts caused by
this terrible drought is famine. Famine, described as an extreme scarcity of food, affects over 6.2
million people in Somalia alone. We are still trying to work out how we ended up here, what we
missed, what we did wrong , announced UNICEF senior nutrition manager Peter Harris. ( A Famine
We Made , researchIT CT) Additionally, if not helped, it is said that over 100,000 Somalis will die in
the next few weeks. Little aid is being received in this region,

Soldiers Fighting for their Country in Enrich Maria...
Everywhere thick, hot gory blood drips from comrade s wounds. The stench of death hovers in the air
and encases every movement. A faint buzz whizzes into the ear drums as shells and bullets fluster by
with brilliant flashes of light. These are the everyday encounters of a soldier on the front. No words
can even begin to touch the realness of terror that soldiers experience every day. Young recruits are
reeled into this torture and sacrifice everything they have and love for their country. Lively hopefuls
are transformed into the unfeeling. The soldiers must think of memories as, too grievous for us [them]
to reflect on them at once. (pp. 138) They forget, lest their state of mind plummet. Few, if any capture
the graphic life and thoughts of the soldier better than Enrich Maria Remarque in his moving book All
Quiet on the Western Front. This epic book follows a young German military recruit named Paul
Bäumer and his classmates who come face to face with the gunfire of the Allies during World War I.
Through Remarque s well chosen words and imagery, an average citizen is transported from their
comfy home to the trenches and front lines of heated battle. In Enrich Maria Remarque s All Quiet on
the Western Front, he successfully illustrates what it s like to be a soldier during war and the extent in
which everyday people sacrifice their lives when fighting for their country. The graphic visuals that
Enrich Maria Remarque portrays in All Quiet on the Western Front effectively

Resource Depletion And Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Lifecycle Analysis
Background
The content of analysis will examine paper. It will look at the harvesting of the materials, production,
distribution, and finally the waste. This lifecycle analysis is to explain a consumer product s life from
production to waste. This is to show the environmental effects that the products has during its life
time. A few of the environmental impacts that will be focused on is resource depletion and greenhouse
gas emissions. These were chosen because of the chain reaction they can cause. Greenhouse gases are
known to be linked to climate change, which is a global problem so the impacts of these emissions are
on a very large scale. Resource depletion is another problem because more than one species rely on
forest. Therefore, the depletion of it is not only bad to humans but the other organisms that use it for
their survival. If this resource was to be completely used up, then it could lead to a loss of biodiversity
which could be bad for the local ecosystem. In addition, since some ecosystems are linked together the
loss of one could have a huge effect on another causing a domino effect. LCA Inventory Trees are a
good source of paper; there are other materials that can work but for the scope of this paper I ll only

machinery or chainsaws are employed to do the cutting. But this process

The Territorial Status Of Puerto Rico
While some groups tend to separate themselves, differences are what make humans inherently similar.
According to Mahatma Gandhi, Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of
our civilization . Even though some may feel different than others, this does not mean that everyone
cannot join together with time. If people of different backgrounds and perspectives unite, they can
overcome any divisive barriers constructed by the past. Sometimes, barriers can exist in places where
one would least expect them, even in seemingly united nations. One example of a hidden divide
present in the Western world is the territorial status of Puerto Rico. Despite American ownership of
the island, Puerto Rican citizens are not granted the same rights and privileges as citizens of the 50
states. Despite Puerto Rico s long American history and attempts to gain statehood status, Puerto
Ricans are still treated differently by the federal government. This ought to be changed. Puerto Rico
should be granted statehood status as a result of the fact that it would improve the territory s stability,
strengthen American moral and social dynamics, and benefit the entire American populous.
The statehood debate can be somewhat contentious, but there are some facts that both sides can agree
to be true. The first is that the social and cultural dynamics of Puerto Rico and the 50 states are
somewhat different. Many fear that Puerto Rico is too culturally distinct to be

The Importance Of Role Models For Young Children
Role models are particularly important for young children, and are a key factor in theirbehaviour and
the development of their identity (Aacap, 2017). Children may have several role models who they
admire and aspire to become, it is the actions of these role models that have an impact upon how
children think and behave. Although not all role models are good, those that are can have a positive
impact on children by encouraging them to have greater self esteem. They also encourage children to
strive for and achieve goals and help them to gain good work habits to have a successful career in the
future. (Livestrong, 2017). According to Silver (Livestrong, 2017) all of these positive aspects can be
achieved by ensuring children have role models who have morals, confidence, are hardworking,
respectful, optimistic and creative.
Reflecting change in feminism and female roles in the workplace, Barbie has had over 150 careers
since her creation by Mattel in 1959. In the 1960 s Barbie could be seen as an Astronaut before Neil
Armstrong walked on the moon; she was given the position as CEO in the 1980s before women were
given powerful roles and she became president in the 1990 s before any female candidate had been
elected for presidency. Each year since 2011, Mattel has introduced a doll portraying a career under
represented by women including an engineer, architect and entrepreneur. Additionally, in 2015, Mattel
released anadvertisement called imagine the possibilities which ended with the message When a girl
plays with Barbie, she imagines everything she can become (Barbie Media, 2016). This is a powerful
message to young girls who may have been under the impression that certain roles within the work
place should be gender specific. It allows girls to believe in equalityand that they are capable of
striving for and achieving bigger career goals in their future. In turn, this encourages children to focus
on their education to help them achieve these goals, just like Barbie.
Due to changes in technology, Barbie is now starring in her own movies as well as engaging in video
blogs with over 2 million subscribers to her YouTube channel. Slowly, Barbie has become more real;

Industrialization Of The Second Industrial Revolution
The Second Industrial Revolution, which reached its peak during 1870 to 1914, marked a significant
turning point in American history. Before this era of progression and industrial excellence, America
was on the verge of expansion like never before. From the vast amounts of land gained through the
Annexation of Texas in 1845, the British retreating from Oregon in 1846, and the Mexican cession of
Southwest territory guaranteed by the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo of 1848, (Engelman) America was
able to expand their territory and access new resources. Industrialization and factory growth in the
North was just budding and beginning to create economic success, along with spurring a rise of

Other plentiful resources include coal, iron, oil, and ore (Pacheco). The utilization of these resources
led to a variety of new inventions. Using iron, one valuable invention that was created to make
agriculture more efficient was the iron bladed plow, created by Jethro Wood in 1819, that could plow
through all types of fields (Alchin). Perhaps the most important advancement was the development of
railroads, such as between 1863 and 1869 when the first transcontinental railroad was built using iron.
This railroad linked the east and west the Atlantic to the Pacific which was a true phenomenon during
this time (Alchin). Both these revolutionary creations, the bladed plow and the transcontinental
railroad, among many others, allowed the economy to prosper, due to the use of the natural resources.
The railroad increased efficiency and wealth for citizens nationwide, as this opened up new markets
for farmers, industrialists, and bankers who could now bring crops and cotton from the Mississippi
River Valley, wheat in the Midwest, and manufactured goods in upstate New York into a global market
based on credit (Engelman). Another significant reason why our economy prospered during this
revolution was the expanding labor force available to work in factories to mass produce products. The
opportunity to work in industrial factories attracted millions around the world, which lead to a
population explosion within cities, as almost 11

Book Of Jeremiah Research Paper
However, to embrace the exiles from Judah in their circumstances and reflect on the message of God

to the Babylonian destruction of Judah and the oppression of the kingdom s people as exiles. One

In chapter 29, one hears Jeremiah say to accept servitude to the Babylonians. The Judeans have come
under punishment from God for their sins. They have received the punishment due to them according
to God and their lives it seems at this point are at the hands of their enemies the Babylonians even
though their fate is in God s hands. Jeremiah continues to speak out prophetically fighting against
those who are false prophets who are intent on telling the people warm and fuzzy lies to cover up and
deny the brokenness that has caused them to be in exile. God has spoken to Jeremiah of why Judah
must be in exile, why Judah must come to terms with what has happened to them. Jeremiah knows
God wants Judah to turn and repent for turning away from God but the people do not listen to
Jeremiah. When the people finally listen to Jeremiah they are already in exile in Babylonia. Jeremiah
must send letters to proclaim God s Word to them. Jeremiah was one of those who were left behind in
Judah. Jeremiah was left behind seeing the destruction of Jeremiah s homeland first hand. Jeremiah
has been deemed the weeping prophet because of Jeremiah s deep care and love for the people of
Judah and for God. Jeremiah feels not only the grief God experiences for having to destroy the people
but Jeremiah feels the grief of the people being destroyed. Jeremiah weeps in chapter 9 because
Jeremiah knows what is coming. But on the other hand, Jeremiah wanted to see the truth of God s
reality come to fruition because Jeremiah knew of God s great love for God s people. The ethos
Jeremiah uses in the prophetic word Jeremiah speaks is genuine and in no way false as the words of
the false prophet, Hananiah when Hananiah spoke saying the exile would only last two years (Jer

Female Marginality In The Catholic Church
As the society continues to strive for gender equality within the work force, there is neglect in one
specific component of culture: religion. Female marginality is very much prominent in the Catholic
Church. As women around the world strive to create a greater voice in corporation, there should also
be goals toward a greater feminine voice in Catholicism. Understanding female role in Catholicism
and analyzing prominent females in Catholicism enables women of the future to develop a greater
influence in the church. Women should seek for female advocacy in the Catholic Church by
examining female roles in Catholicism, exceptional women in Catholicism, and traditions of
Catholicism.
Understanding the definition of female marginality is important before being able to apply it to the
Catholic Church. Female marginality is defined as females who hold limited options or opinions on
any matter. Traditionally, women were defined as the caretaker of the household and children, limiting
women to domesticated duties while men held superiority in the work force. In the past, men

United Nations Peacekeeping Development And Crisis
United Nations Peacekeeping Development and Crisis
Abstract
The objective of the paper is to review the development of United Nations peacekeeping forces. After
World War II, the United Nations had been given new opportunities to help control and resolve
conflicts. As a result, new tasks and new method had to be adopted in order to adapt the fast world
changing situation and continue growing conflicts which could endanger the international peace.
Therefore, the UN peacekeeping forces play a very important role in keeping peace in conflict regions.
This paper also examines some crisis UN is now facing. It examines whether state participation in UN

  • 2. Essay on Fine Arts Education Issues Fine Arts Education Issues According to the National Art Education Association s goals for schools, all elementary schools shall require students to complete a sequential program of art instruction that integrates the study of art production, aesthetics, art criticism, and art history, (Clark, 1987). Elementary schools are having difficulty because they are cutting back on the fine arts programming and many non specialist classroom teachers are expected to integrate the fine arts into their daily curriculum. Most of these teachers feel inadequate and uncomfortable when teaching these subjects. The children are receiving inadequate lessons in art education. All elementary schools should expand their curriculum to include the fine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Will teachers have the money...more often than not, the answer is no, (Reardon, 1995). When budget cuts are underway in school systems, the allotted amount of money for fine arts education is the first to be reduced. Fine arts education should be considered a core subject in elementary schools. All budgeting should be done so that all core areas receive an equal amount of money. Because the fine arts are given a lower status than the traditional core subjects, schools fail to hire licensed arts specialists. Schools then burden their classroom teachers by implementing poor quality arts programs into their daily routines to fulfill certain art expectations. This not only discourages and takes time away from classroom teachers, but also misrepresents the fine arts. Even when a fine arts specialist is hired, they often are pushed into trying to teach other areas of art than what they were hired for. In some cases, the requirements for becoming an arts specialist are so relaxed that many communities don t believe that the fine arts should be taken very seriously. Luckily, national reports are pushing for higher standards to become a fine arts specialist. • 3. Comparing Two Death Poems In Emily Dickinson s poems I heard a Fly buzz when I died and Because I could not stop for Death both have to do with death. Sadly those are the only similarities in the two poems. Although the two poems were written less than a year apart they both have a different perspective of death in both of them. I heard a Fly buzz when I died talks about death at the moment and Because I could not stop for Death has to do with after death. In I heard a fly buzz when I died Dickinson talks about death at the current moment of the deathbed. The speaker starts by saying I heard a fly buzz when I died. Dickinson leaves the fly for a while and talks about the scene of the death. The room is very quiet and calm. She says The Stillness in the Room/ Was like the Stillness in the Air / Between the heaven of the storm after telling us about the atmosphere of the room she tells us about the people and how dried their eyes were. The speaker tells us that there used to be crying, but now there is only stillness in the room. After talking about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The speaker also includes that the carriage includes her and death in the carriage. Dissimilar to the other poem death is not a journey. She continues with the poem saying that the carriage is going really slow. She has put away her free time and labor for his civility. She goes on to describe things she passed like the school, fields of gazing grains and the setting sun. Dickinson uses that to describe three stages of life; childhood, adulthood, and old age. In the other poem Dickinson does not describe those stages. The sun passes her and is going down when they have reached the grave. Lastly the speaker is placed in the future. We as the reader realized that she speaks from eternity. The other poem did not talk about this journey, it was more focused on the moment of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The majority were 65 75 years of age (n=129; 42.6%) and 76 85 years of age (n=106; 35%). The mean age was 73.3 years, and the majority were Caucasian (n=276; 91.1%). The majority of all radiation treatments are in the Southeast (n=123; 40.6%) and gender was mostly balanced, with slightly more males than females. Overall, in our study the most common type of primary cancer to receive radiation for bone metastases are those with a primary diagnosis of lung cancer. When the researcher seeks to measure behaviour, they are concerned with ensuring they are measuring what they actually intend to measure. Although questions related to validity cannot be answered with complete certainty, the researcher can develop a strong case for the validity of their data. One of the most commonly used measures of validity is internal validity, which questions whether there is a relationship, and if there is one, whether it is causal or not. Internal validity justifies itself; however, there are a number of threats to the internal validity of a research design such as history, maturation, testing, selection, instrumentation, mortality, compensatory ... Nevertheless, with the rising trends of knowledge synthesis, meta ethnography and meta narrative, the evaluation of generalisability is becoming more important(Leung, 2015). A pragmatic approach to examining generalisability in qualitative studies is to adopt the same criteria for validity, which is the use of a systematic sampling technique, adequate auditing and documentation, triangulation and multi dimensional theory. Some scholars also support the approach of analytical generalisation, wherein one assesses the extent to which the findings of one study can be generalised to another with proximal similarity and similar theoretical models (Leung, 2015). Under a proximal similar model, the generalisability of one study in respect of another is assessed on the basis of similarities in place, time, people and other social contexts. Nevertheless, this raises questions on the suitability of meta synthesis in respect of the basic principles of grounded theory, ethnography and phenomenology. In this regard, it can be thus identified that any valid meta synthesis must ensure two key objectives, the development of a theory and a higher level of abstraction, to ensure generalisability in the qualitative research ... This paper will prove that in fact, America should have not gotten involved with the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War took place in between 1947 1975. It consisted of North Vietnam trying to make South Vietnam a communism government. The United States later joined this conflict because of the stress North Vietnam was putting to South Vietnam to become a government that America did not want. • 9. Trial and Death of Socrates Benjamin Jowett. The Trial and Death of Socrates (Dover Edition). New York: Dover Publications, 1992 What is the charge? Well, a very serious charge, which shows a good deal of character in the young man, and for which he is certainly not to be despised. He says he knows how the youth are corrupted and who are their corruptors. And I fancy that he must be a wise man, and seeing that I am anything but a wise man, he has found me out, and is going to accuse me of corrupting his young friends. And of this our mother the state is to be the judge. Of all our political men he is the only one who seems to me to begin in the right way, with the cultivation of virtue in youth; he is a good husbandman, and takes care of the shoots first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Socrates begins by stating that, since Meletus claims to know who is corrupting the youth, he must know who improves them. After some back and forth between the two men, Socrates gets Meletus to say that all Athenians improve the youth and that Socrates is the only one who corrupts the youth. Socrates continues to use Meletus own words against him throughout and thus making him look quite foolish in front of the court. I have said enough in answer to the charge of Meletus: any elaborate defence is unnecessary; but as I was saying before, I certainly have many enemies, and this is what will be my destruction if I am destroyed; of that I am certain; not Meletus, nor yet Anytus, but the envy and detraction of the world, which has been the death of many good men, and will probably be the death of many more; there is no danger of mine being the last of them. (p. 29). Here Socrates, in my opinion, shows the court again that he will turn the other cheek to his accusers and not blame them, but instead chooses to blame what I would like to call the human condition. That is, putting your own self interests before that of others to further your gain. This is why Socrates struggles with anyone giving him a definition of piety, because I think that to Socrates piety means acting altruistic. Since the human condition is that of self serving your own interests, he sees through peoples definitions because he knows that they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whether I was playing an instrument, singing, or just listening to it, music has played a huge role in my life. It has helped me through the bad times and the good times. In my life, music has become a major part of my identity. It all began in junior high when I took a couple instruments for a test drive. I loved the way the sticks pounded on drums and the way the oboe squeaked like a mouse. In the end, I chose the saxophone. I love the way my fingers glided over the keys as a jazzy flow of music poured out. Don t get me wrong though because it took me a while before I fully became advanced. I give credit to my sister for my passion for music. I looked up to her(even if I don t want to admit it). I think I was born with a hatred of oppression, and, too, in my father s house, I was trained in the anti slavery ranks, for it was one of the stations on the underground railway, and a home of anti slavery speakers. But I was so sweetly welcomed by the sainted Lucretia Mott, who gave me a place, and, when I had finished speaking, referred so pleasantly to what I had said, and to her my heart turned always with truest affection. • 12. White Tigers From The Woman Warrior Essay Maxine Hong Kingston once said, I ve been writing since I was 7, but before that, I was orally making stories. This quote expresses Kingston s fervor for writing and storytelling outside of her short story White Tigers from the Woman Warrior , which emphasizes the importance of literature, which is her art, by retelling her own childhood as the fairy tale of the Woman Warrior, Fa Mu Lan, and connecting it back to her own life. The introductory paragraphs, coupled with the word carving scene and the concluding final paragraphs, evoke Fa Mu Lan and present Maxine s life as analogous to Fa Mu Lan s life story. While it is understood that they did not know each other, Maxine complicates this relationship , for lack of a better word, by using a first person narrative as opposed to a third person narrative while retelling the fairy tale , which in turn complicates subjectivity of Maxine, and the relationship between Maxine and Fa Mu Lan. Moreover, the words in the word carving scene in the middle of the fairy tale are double symbols of suffering and of perfect filiality, which is a trait common in Chinese culture. By and large, these early on passages, and each section from there on, and the word cutting scene, utilize the literary devices of point of view and central symbol to influence the audience to acknowledge Maxine s claim that Fa Mu Lan is her model, and that she, Maxine, is fruitful in taking after her case since they both have words at their backs. • 13. The Perception Of Mortality In Albert Camus s The Stranger Mortality is a concept that can shadow a person s philosophy on life, and heavily influences the behaviors and motivations of literary characters. Human beings question mortality and what it means in alignment to the purpose and significance of living. Many of the character in the catalog of our reading this semester have self made philosophies on mortality that manifest in the thought processes of characters and direction their stories and lives take. The way that characters comprehend mortality proves itself to be a major influence on the behaviors and motivations that are integral to these novels. You see mortality through the lens of chance, existentialism, religion, violence, even as the catalyst for appreciating life. The interpretations of mortality are often shaped by the experiences we go through, and this holds true in complicated, simple, and unique texts. In Albert Camus The Stranger, Meursault believes that life is meaningless in the face of death; it Is assured that every human will die, so the choices we make in this lifetime have little relevance or meaning. This theory that one life was as good as another (Camus, 22) governs much of this novel. The first lines introduce the passing of Meursault s mother, immediately informing the reader of the apathy he shows where most people would react with grief and reflect on the sadness of the situation, Meursault reacts indifferently with That doesn t mean anything (Camus, 1). Differences Between Judaism And Judaism Judaism has a concrete connection to the development of Christianity which has influenced the teachings of the religion that would not be made possible without its presence. There are similarities between the Christian faiths to Judaism from how the religions are practiced to the hymns that are shared between the two. A primary difference is the historical background to the discovery of the religions. Another difference would be the sacred text that are used in prayer considering Judaism uses the Hebrew bible and Christians use the New Testament. The Hebrew bible is referred to as the Old Testament yet that might not be the case according to Jews. A similarity from the two religions is the fact that they are both monotheism which is the belief that there is only one God. Yet the two differ on the beliefs on the one that is called God or the divine. Another fascinating similarity that the two share are the Ten Commandments. The commandments were discovered by Moses on two tablets which has been practice by Jews primarily. The adaptation of the commandments were carried over into the New Testament. Considering most of the Hebrew Bible shares a cross connection into the New testament it is clear that it would not have been created without the influence of Judaism. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every individual needs to change the way they view themselves and those around them. In the United States there is this idea written in the constitution called The Pursuit of Happiness. It basically means that in America you have the chance to live how you want to, or what is referred to as the American Dream. Overtime this dream has become too selfish, meaning that people only seek to make themselves happy regardless of those around them. When a community is more open and accepting there will be less conflicts. The reason this needs to happen on the individual level is that everyone needs to be on board for real change to occur successfully in Smallville. The first thing that needs to change about the individual is the idea of respect. If everyone can learn to respect themselves and those around them, even for differing views, the community can work together a lot easier. Then the next thing that would need to change about the individual would be the way they live their lives. Each citizen would need to change their eating habits, their energy use habits, and overall lifestyle habits. Then finally, the individual will need to find their place in society. Once they realize how connected to the community they are and how much damage they do to it, they can learn what they need to do to fix it. Do not make the assumption that the virus itself is not lethal, as indeed it is one of the deadlier pathogens in the world; however, a variety of factors contribute to making the Ebola virus a less than perfect killer; in order to know why, it is important to understand what exactly the Ebola virus is. According to Peters and Peters (1999), Marburg virus was first discovered in 1967. It was the first virus of the Filoviridae family uncovered; Ebola was the second, being discovered in 1976. Ebola was initially encountered in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where several outbreaks of Hemorrhagic Fever were documented. Teams sent to deal with these outbreaks found an almost total cessation of transmission. Survivors, however, provided an excellent source of data. Different research studies resulted in a major success by proving that bilingual children outperform monolinguals in a wide array of cognitive and language based tasks (Wallstrum 16). Dual language immersion is defined as fifty percent of the non English is used for the instructional part of the day, and the other fifty percent is spoken in English. The purpose of these immersion schools is to promote fluency in the foreign language while also performing at their grade level in that language. Parents are the main reason why kids in these modern times are only primarily speaking English. Many people have a strong opinion against the teaching of bilingualism in America, especially starting at a young age. The reason for this is their own ignorance. They fail to seek further information on the topic and see the positive benefits that result. The benefits of bilingual education surprisingly are not tolerated by everyone, and that is a big reason as to why it is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. The Negative Speech On Famine And Drought Introduction: (Charlotte) We would like to begin by thanking the United Nations for giving us this opportunity to speak. Joining me today are Julia Antony, Ian Rose, and Ryan Amer. We are here to discuss the large topic of famine and drought. Drought is defined as, A long period of time during which there is very little or no rain (First picture). These two problems alone are some of the largest overarching issues that our world is facing right now and have been for centuries. At this stage, no one can ignore the fact that 110 people have died in the last 48 hours at the hand of famine and drought. (Second picture) Not to mention that in Somalia, more than 900,000 children are malnourished; that alone is more than the entire population of children in Connecticut. Now over to you, Julia. *transition to next slide. Body 1: (Julia) Thanks Charlotte. Extreme rain loss in areas all over the world causes intense droughts. Multiple complications occur when water is no longer abundant. One of the most severe conflicts caused by this terrible drought is famine. Famine, described as an extreme scarcity of food, affects over 6.2 million people in Somalia alone. We are still trying to work out how we ended up here, what we missed, what we did wrong , announced UNICEF senior nutrition manager Peter Harris. ( A Famine We Made , researchIT CT) Additionally, if not helped, it is said that over 100,000 Somalis will die in the next few weeks. Little aid is being received in this region, ... • 27. Soldiers Fighting for their Country in Enrich Maria... Everywhere thick, hot gory blood drips from comrade s wounds. The stench of death hovers in the air and encases every movement. A faint buzz whizzes into the ear drums as shells and bullets fluster by with brilliant flashes of light. These are the everyday encounters of a soldier on the front. No words can even begin to touch the realness of terror that soldiers experience every day. Young recruits are reeled into this torture and sacrifice everything they have and love for their country. Lively hopefuls are transformed into the unfeeling. The soldiers must think of memories as, too grievous for us [them] to reflect on them at once. (pp. 138) They forget, lest their state of mind plummet. Few, if any capture the graphic life and thoughts of the soldier better than Enrich Maria Remarque in his moving book All Quiet on the Western Front. This epic book follows a young German military recruit named Paul Bäumer and his classmates who come face to face with the gunfire of the Allies during World War I. Through Remarque s well chosen words and imagery, an average citizen is transported from their comfy home to the trenches and front lines of heated battle. In Enrich Maria Remarque s All Quiet on the Western Front, he successfully illustrates what it s like to be a soldier during war and the extent in which everyday people sacrifice their lives when fighting for their country. • 30. Resource Depletion And Greenhouse Gas Emissions Lifecycle Analysis Background The content of analysis will examine paper. It will look at the harvesting of the materials, production, distribution, and finally the waste. This lifecycle analysis is to explain a consumer product s life from production to waste. This is to show the environmental effects that the products has during its life time. A few of the environmental impacts that will be focused on is resource depletion and greenhouse gas emissions. These were chosen because of the chain reaction they can cause. Greenhouse gases are known to be linked to climate change, which is a global problem so the impacts of these emissions are on a very large scale. Resource depletion is another problem because more than one species rely on forest. Therefore, the depletion of it is not only bad to humans but the other organisms that use it for their survival. If this resource was to be completely used up, then it could lead to a loss of biodiversity which could be bad for the local ecosystem. In addition, since some ecosystems are linked together the loss of one could have a huge effect on another causing a domino effect. • 31. The Territorial Status Of Puerto Rico While some groups tend to separate themselves, differences are what make humans inherently similar. According to Mahatma Gandhi, Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilization . Even though some may feel different than others, this does not mean that everyone cannot join together with time. If people of different backgrounds and perspectives unite, they can overcome any divisive barriers constructed by the past. Sometimes, barriers can exist in places where one would least expect them, even in seemingly united nations. One example of a hidden divide present in the Western world is the territorial status of Puerto Rico. Despite American ownership of the island, Puerto Rican citizens are not granted the same rights and privileges as citizens of the 50 states. Despite Puerto Rico s long American history and attempts to gain statehood status, Puerto Ricans are still treated differently by the federal government. This ought to be changed. Puerto Rico should be granted statehood status as a result of the fact that it would improve the territory s stability, strengthen American moral and social dynamics, and benefit the entire American populous. The statehood debate can be somewhat contentious, but there are some facts that both sides can agree to be true. The first is that the social and cultural dynamics of Puerto Rico and the 50 states are somewhat different. Many fear that Puerto Rico is too culturally distinct to be ... • 32. The Importance Of Role Models For Young Children Role models are particularly important for young children, and are a key factor in theirbehaviour and the development of their identity (Aacap, 2017). Children may have several role models who they admire and aspire to become, it is the actions of these role models that have an impact upon how children think and behave. Although not all role models are good, those that are can have a positive impact on children by encouraging them to have greater self esteem. They also encourage children to strive for and achieve goals and help them to gain good work habits to have a successful career in the future. (Livestrong, 2017). According to Silver (Livestrong, 2017) all of these positive aspects can be achieved by ensuring children have role models who have morals, confidence, are hardworking, respectful, optimistic and creative. Reflecting change in feminism and female roles in the workplace, Barbie has had over 150 careers since her creation by Mattel in 1959. In the 1960 s Barbie could be seen as an Astronaut before Neil Armstrong walked on the moon; she was given the position as CEO in the 1980s before women were given powerful roles and she became president in the 1990 s before any female candidate had been elected for presidency. Each year since 2011, Mattel has introduced a doll portraying a career under represented by women including an engineer, architect and entrepreneur. Additionally, in 2015, Mattel released anadvertisement called imagine the possibilities which ended with the message When a girl plays with Barbie, she imagines everything she can become (Barbie Media, 2016). This is a powerful message to young girls who may have been under the impression that certain roles within the work place should be gender specific. It allows girls to believe in equalityand that they are capable of striving for and achieving bigger career goals in their future. In turn, this encourages children to focus on their education to help them achieve these goals, just like Barbie. Before this era of progression and industrial excellence, America was on the verge of expansion like never before. From the vast amounts of land gained through the Annexation of Texas in 1845, the British retreating from Oregon in 1846, and the Mexican cession of Southwest territory guaranteed by the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo of 1848, (Engelman) America was able to expand their territory and access new resources. Using iron, one valuable invention that was created to make agriculture more efficient was the iron bladed plow, created by Jethro Wood in 1819, that could plow through all types of fields (Alchin). Perhaps the most important advancement was the development of railroads, such as between 1863 and 1869 when the first transcontinental railroad was built using iron. This railroad linked the east and west the Atlantic to the Pacific which was a true phenomenon during this time (Alchin). Both these revolutionary creations, the bladed plow and the transcontinental railroad, among many others, allowed the economy to prosper, due to the use of the natural resources. The railroad increased efficiency and wealth for citizens nationwide, as this opened up new markets for farmers, industrialists, and bankers who could now bring crops and cotton from the Mississippi River Valley, wheat in the Midwest, and manufactured goods in upstate New York into a global market based on credit (Engelman). Another significant reason why our economy prospered during this revolution was the expanding labor force available to work in factories to mass produce products. One must know the destruction before one may see the grace of God bestowed upon the people in a message of renewal, restoration and salvation. Judah, the southern kingdom, came under threat from the Babylonians during the time of Jeremiah the Prophet which was from 628 until 586 B.C.E. They have received the punishment due to them according to God and their lives it seems at this point are at the hands of their enemies the Babylonians even though their fate is in God s hands. Jeremiah continues to speak out prophetically fighting against those who are false prophets who are intent on telling the people warm and fuzzy lies to cover up and deny the brokenness that has caused them to be in exile. God has spoken to Jeremiah of why Judah must be in exile, why Judah must come to terms with what has happened to them. Jeremiah knows God wants Judah to turn and repent for turning away from God but the people do not listen to Jeremiah. When the people finally listen to Jeremiah they are already in exile in Babylonia. Jeremiah must send letters to proclaim God s Word to them. Jeremiah was one of those who were left behind in Judah. Jeremiah was left behind seeing the destruction of Jeremiah s homeland first hand. Jeremiah has been deemed the weeping prophet because of Jeremiah s deep care and love for the people of Judah and for God. Jeremiah feels not only the grief God experiences for having to destroy the people but Jeremiah feels the grief of the people being destroyed. Jeremiah weeps in chapter 9 because Jeremiah knows what is coming. But on the other hand, Jeremiah wanted to see the truth of God s reality come to fruition because Jeremiah knew of God s great love for God s people. After World War II, the United Nations had been given new opportunities to help control and resolve conflicts. Therefore, the UN peacekeeping forces play a very important role in keeping peace in conflict regions. This paper also examines some crisis UN is now facing. It examines whether state participation in UN peace keeping results from a state s idealistic commitment to the global community and international peace or whether participation is tied to the state s national interest. With the high profile of UN peace keeping in this post Cold War era, the answer to this inquiry may suggest to us whether the emerging international system will be organized on the principles of community or self.
