Analysis Of Where There s Smoke Theres Fire Patterson
Where there s smoke there s fire by Russell Patterson
Russell Patterson (December 26, 1893 March 17, 1977) was a celebrated and prolific American
cartoonist, illustrator. Patterson s art helped develop and promote the idea of fashion style known as
the flapper in the 1920s and 1930s. Flappers had their own hairstyles and ways of dressing, especially
bobbed hair and short skirts. Flappers were a sign of changing times and more freedom for women to
express themselves. The message that he is trying to express is how women new looks, jobs, and
lifestyle were changing dramatically. His painting shows how women are feeling more confident
about themselves, and start to go outside and have fun rather than staying at home all day and do the
work.
Where there s smoke there s fire by Russell Patterson was painted in 1920s. He used water color on an
illustration board, and it is 45.1 cm by 59.2 cm. The painting has a fashionably dressed flapper with
one hand on her hip and the other hand is holding the cigarette. She has a classic bobbed hair that all
the flapper girls have. The girl is wearing a sexy white dress with pointed high heels. The smoke from
the cigarette does not look like smoke. Her posture seems like a sassy girl with ... Show more content

By doing this, he creates movement of the smoke because it controls the viewer s eyes and follow the
curves of the smoke. The darkness of the background and the lightness of the skirt create a contrast
between the two. Russell also uses positive space on his painting because when the background is
dark, the space of a shape will stand out. The flapper in the painting also wearing a white skirt, so it
makes her will be the subject matter. The emphasis in the painting is definitely the young woman
because the background is just black and bland, while the young woman is being painted meticulously,

Cultural Identity Divide
Culture can be defined as a belief that allows you to identify who you are. Thus, through cultre there is
self discovery and belonging in a group of persons who share the same belief system; who have found
themselves and are now seeking to digest more about one another through eachother s unearthing of
one s self. Culture assists you not only in identifying who you are, but the sort of people you can
surround yourself with due to common interests. In this society; I have witnessed cultural unity,
cultural identity crisis and moreover a cultural divide and surprisingly all of those fold under the same
umbrella in reagrds to knowing where you stand and those you choose to stand with. Currently,
society is a huge caste system of choices to be made, opinions to be had and decision making. Often,
many are questioned of whose side they are on awhile many don t have the opportunity to make that
decision for they are often placed in a caste based off of appearances. This generation of millenials
confuses the caste system with electronics being in the forefront of their upbringing; self discovery is
no longer going to a park and playing with kids of similar interests on the playground; but now finding
yourself is depicted by the amount of followers, likes and/ or views you possess. Moreover, society
now can also be defined by who you follow, who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Jake s Reunion With His Wife Analysis
Jake s reunion with his wife, which anyone would assume to be a joyful event for any long separated
couple, did not reflect by any means any aspect of such jubilant atmosphere. Prior to seeing his wife
Jake was described to be filled with joyous anticipation perhaps more due to his desire to show off his
swell attire to her, rather than genuine love for the woman but this feeling soon waned as he caught a
glimpse of her in her orthodox, sloven attire (pg. 33 34). Jake averted his face in pure disgust as soon
as he saw Gitl (partially because of the hideous wig that she was wearing, which reminded him of just
how un American she was) and wished that her release were delayed indefinitely (pg. 34).
Unfortunately for Jake, however, her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
35). Over the past three years of separation there developed a drastic contrast between the man and his
wife. The man was a Yankee who has rejected his culture and was willing to give up every memory of
his heritage (if he had not done so already), while the wife was still a greenhorn, fresh off the boat, a
head to toe reminder of the culture and traditions that Jake was trying so desperately to escape. Jake
hated his wife s traditional clothing, which was far more than unfair, for while he had spent quite a
few years in America himself and had all the time he needed to adjust and transform into a poritz as
his wife called him based on his appearance upon greeting her she had only a couple of minutes. Gitl
had only taken a dozen of steps on the American soil and Jake had already expected her to be the
perfect Americanized version of a wife that he had hoped to have, but what indeed

The Overall Affect Of School Cancellations On The Class...
One thing that I learned this week was the overall affect of school cancellations on the class syllabus.
Mr. Allen s strategy for me is to teach every day, but to use the majority of his content prepared and
lesson plans. However, with that being said, Mr. Allen and I have gone through each and every day to
plan the lessons until March 6th, which is when I leave. The difficulty that has arisen is the amount of
snow days that Brewer Community School has had. Last weeks two cancellations caused two very
important activities to have to be thrown out and modify the week. Mr. Allen plans his units to only
last a week and on Fridays, quizzes are taken to check for understanding. We were lucky that last
week only had two days worth of notes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is both sad and frustrating, as there was a tremendous amount of work put in to the planning
process. In the beginning I was looking forward to snow days, as they seemed like a break from
teaching, but now I look at snow days and think how much of a head ache they are. It is nice to have a
day off from school, but the amount of work put into planning is essentially wasted and free time that
a teacher could have had is gone. Therefore, I am no praying that there are no more snow days and
even if I am ever a teacher, I hope there is not, as time is wasted and overall, all that a teacher gets out
of a snow day is a headache from frustration and re planning. Looking into the future, I believe that I
will plan mini lesson plans for early release days, morning delays and even try to modify lesson plans
for snow cancellations. Mr Allen, like myself, like to plan everything out and the thought of a class
going ahead of another would stress me out, so in the event of an early release, or even morning delay,
I believe that I will have lesson plans for this event that are connected to the material, but not
essential. For example, a lesson plan that has research time and then a class debate would be one.
While another example might be a current event lesson plan that introduces the class to a topic such as
ISIS or the events

Value Chain Management
Introduction
The goal of this essay is to explain the various functions and strategies of value chain management
and discuss how to implement them in a flat screen display business, so as to improve the performance
of the operating system which ultimately will increase the efficiency and quality of production thereby
helping them gain a competitive advantage over their competitors. Which will result in increased the
profits for the business.
Value Chain Management: Development of a set of functional level strategies that increase the

For the business, add making high quality products to the goals of the business which will make it a
permanent commitment and the employees and the business can strive to achieve the goals. Structure
the business in such a way that the main focus is on the customers, this includes their needs and wants
and their overall satisfaction. Keep track of the quality of the screens by finding and making use of a
method to measure the overall quality of the product. Once a measure has been devised, set a
challenging quality goal and create incentives for reaching the next goal. By doing so it will motivate
the workers and will improve the efficiency of which the screens are produced.
Employees can often provide important information as to the causes of poor quality, so form a strong
communicating relationship with the workers. This can be done by forming quality circles; these
circles are groups of employees who meet regularly to discuss ways to increase quality

Mary Jenkinson Research Paper
When James I was king, the sport of bear bating became popular. Bears, dogs, lions, and other animals
were forced to fight each other to the death for entertainment. He even had a special platform built so
the court could witness these royal games. There was disappointment when the battles weren t bloody
even more so when the animals simply refused to fight. Between the rough treatment of the animals
and the poor living conditions they faced, it was only a matter of time before someone lost their life.
In 1686, a woman named Mary Jenkinson got too close to a lion. As she was petting its paw, the
animal caught her arm in its mouth and tore it apart. Doctors amputated the mangled arm but Mary
died shortly after the attack. Mary s case wasn t the first time a visitor would be injured or killed, and
it certainly wasn t the last. And yes, there were occasions when animals escaped and the city was in

Similarities And Differences Between Jesus And The Quran...
Jesus in Islam Most Christians are well acquainted with the identity of Jesus as presented in the
biblical canonical Gospels. However, most are not well versed in the Jesus presented in Islam.
Contemporary Christian understanding of Jesus, his miracles, and his identity as a prophet has been
most often mutually exclusive from that of the contemporary Islamic community. It is well established
that there are many points of dissimilarity between the character representations of Jesus. Yet, there
are also notable similarities. Jesus s miracles are discussed in both texts with varied stressed
importance and purposes. With both traditions established in their respective religions, it is interesting
to engage the concept that these pictures of Jesus could not be mutually exclusive. Examination of the
Christology and miracles of Jesus in the Quran and Hadith allows contemporary Christian readers to
view Jesus through a broader, historical lens. In Images of Jesus Christ in Islam, Oddbjorn Leirvik
warns the reader that one can easily read the Quran with a Christian bias, ignoring historical context
(28). Examining the similarities and differences in the Christologies presented in the Bible and the
Quran can easily garner such biases. Leirvik brings several issues forth that add perspective to
examining the Muslim Jesus in comparison to the Christian Jesus. It is indisputable that each religious
tradition is in support and full belief of its own message. Both Christianity and

Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut Essays
Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut
The story is a satire, a parody of an ideological society divorced from common sense reality
(Townsend). As Townsend stated Kurt Vonnegut makes a satire about society in his fictional short
story Harrison Bergeron, which in their society there has been attempt of conformity through the
handicaps of the people, the similarity to an authoritarian government, and the technology, whereas
the people will eventually overcome. The Kind if government authority seen both mimics and satirizes
the way Americans came to see the enemy (the Soviet Union) during the Cold War, which was near its
height of distrust and fear in the late 1950 s and early 1960 s. As an attempt to make the economy

The handicaps are based on what the individual citizens is better at and what they are not. For
example, George one of the characters in the story, for whom is very intelligent and sharp. Because, he
s so intelligent his handicap has to be a device that has a loud distinct beep that disturbs his train of
thought every twenty minutes. George also has a bag of lead balls that weigh him down. The irony of
the so call handicaps is that the people of this nation like George will get use to their handicaps. After
a while a person will get use to the weight and learn to think faster than twenty seconds
Technology is one of the main means of communication and entertainment. Such entertainment is
television, which was invented by John Baird in 1926. In a Newton Minow speech he states that
violence as a contributor to this wasteland he lists what people see on the television and what they
take from it. In the story Harrison s mother watches her son on the television he get shot to death and
does not even remember what she saw five minutes later. After the commotion was over she says, I
could tell that one was a doozy (Vonnegut). That is what television does to a person that is
intellectually impaired.

the people, the similarity authoritarian government, and the technology. As a result of these factors

Reasons to Not Allow Women in the Front Lines
About 200,000 plus women are on active duty for the military out of 1.4 million serving. Out of the
200,000, 2.7 percent of them make up the front line units (CNN). This is approximately 5,400 women
that are enlisted and are fighting on the front lines. This number is very low and should be much
higher. This number represents the idea that the military believes women should not be on the front
lines. Many people in society believe that what the military is doing is wrong and females should be
able to fight on the front lines. There has been an official ban on women fighting on the front lines by
the military. Recently many people are discussing the idea of lifting the ban and giving females the
ability to fight in the front lines while the other party believes that women should not.
This ban was stated in 1994 when the Pentagon restricted women from artillery, armor, infantry and
other combat roles. In recent years, women had found themselves in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan
and according to the Pentagon, hundreds of thousands of these women have been deployed in those
conflicts (NYTIMESBANLIFT). One major benefit of lifting the ban will be the amount of jobs that
will be created. This will allow a boost in job openings in the army. No matter how strong you are, the
only thing that matters is the will to fight and to protect the nation.
Reasons to not allow women on the front lines
The British military determined that 1 in 100 trained female soldiers

Essay On Civil War Weapons
At the beginning of the Civil War, the Regular Army Soldiers were generally armed with primarily the
1842 Springfield, a .69 caliber smoothbore musket, and with whatever weaponry that was purchased
by state authorities. This included other various types and calibers of domestic and foreign
smoothbore guns and the longer rifled muskets. In 1861, a shortage of rifles on both sides forced the
Northern and Southern governments purchase weapons from European nations. Also widely used was
artillery including cannons. Some of the new weapon technologies used in the civil war include rifled
gun barrels, the Minie ball and repeating rifles. (Parker 2005 20016) Many weapons were used in the
Siege of Petersburg from knives to swords along with a variety of firearms, including rifles, pistols,
muskets, and repeating weapons. During the onset of the Civil War, the U.S. Model 1842 Springfield
was a .69 caliber musket used mainly by both the Union and Confederate sides. It had a 42 barrel

My Favorite Archaeological Site In Japan
Japan is a country well known for the preservation of cultural places. In such a small country, there are
many historical sites open for visitation, and museums built for history that they could not conserve.
While there are many attractions in Japan for tourists, the most popular are sites with a lot of Japanese
culture. As an aspiring archaeologist, I would absolutely spend most my time in Japan, should I ever
get to go, touring the most popular historical locations. My favorite archaeological site in Japan is the
Tomb of Emperor Nintoku. There are many reasons why I felt this site was the most intriguing, but the
main reason was the extraordinary size of the tomb. It is about 486 meters long, about 307 meters
wide, and 35.8 meters high. Supposing 2,000 people worked on it every day, it is estimated that it took
about 16 years to build. The Tomb of Emperor Nintoku is one of the three largest tombs in the world,
the other two being the Tomb of Qin Shi Huang in China and the pyramid of King Khufu in Egypt.
Emperor Nintoku s tomb is also fascinating because the inside has not been excavated, so there is no
guarantee that this tomb is in fact where Emperor Nintoku was buried. Emperor Nintoku was the most
powerful person in Japan at the time that the tomb was being built, so it is a safe assumption that the
tomb was built for him. His actual burial site has not been confirmed, as is the norm for tombs in
Japan, as they are protected by the government from looters and foreign

Technology In Physical Therapy
There are many different technologies in the physical therapy field, I ve chosen four that I ve had
some experience working with. The four I chose was ultrasound, hydrotherapy, gym equipment, and
electrotherapy. The use of technology in the physical therapy is not uncommon and most of the time it
helps speed up the process of recovery. The technologies are not that advanced like some other fields
but they get their job done. The first thing I ve chosen to talk about is the ultrasound. The utilization of
ultrasound was thought to help in producing delicate tissue. This practice has since stopped in light of
the fact that it has been demonstrated insufficient in this regard. Nonetheless, ultrasound has numerous

To Autumn – A Proclamation of Life and Hope Essay
To Autumn A Proclamation of Life and Hope
The poem To Autumn is an amazing piece of work written by one of the greatest poets of all time,
John Keats. From a simple reading, the poem paints a beautiful picture of the coming season.
However, one may wonder if there is more to the poem than what the words simply say. After it is
studied and topics such as sound, diction and imagery are analyzed, one can clearly say that Keats
used those techniques to illustrate the progression of death, and to show that there is still life at the end
of life. From the very beginning of To Autumn, sound appears to be an important aspect of Keats s
technique. When the words are studied, there is an even mixture of loud and soft ... Show more

This tells of the great bounty of the current time, but adds a quiet feeling to it, such as what Keats was
trying to communicate that death or a time of quiet is approaching.
The second stanza has mainly quiet sounds. With words such as oft, store, swath, seeks, careless, soft
lifted, and drowsed, the whole stanza is filled with soft s and w sounds. This makes the stanza very
sleepy and slow but with a warm comfortable feeling. What is most brilliant is that he writes about
sleep and then uses words that sound like sleep to describe it. That makes the reader really experience
how he is explaining death with sounds, not just words. This change from stanza one also goes along
with the progression of life. It started out loud and young, and now has begun to soften, such as life
does when one grows older or nears death.
The third stanza somewhat follows the course set down by the previous two stanzas, but it also does
something surprising. One may predict that the third stanza becomes softer still, following the
progression, yet it does not quite do so. It does start according to prediction, very quiet and feathery,
with words such as stubble plains, rosy, wailful, sallows, and lives or dies. This is generally very soft,
which continues the progression, but there is a hitch. Keats writes, And full grown lambs loud bleat
from hilly bourn. The whole line stands out very radically because it is almost

of theaters (Gray). Thomas helped to design movie theaters and this sparked an impact on the 20th
century. Many people enjoyed and took advantage of how much of an impact people, like Coco and
Thomas, had on the 1920 s. If it wasn t for people like them, we wouldn t have movie theaters and a
cute fashion for women today.

Among many other things, art began to flourish and change during this era. One 1920 s décor critic
stated, The Art Deco Movement influenced the way that buildings were erected and clothes were made
(Modras). Art was such a major aspect during the 1920 s that it changed the way architects were
expected to design buildings. This created a new perspective on the way houses and major buildings
were looked at. In fact, these buildings were no longer just used for practical purposes but were now
created to be pleasing to the eye. In addition, in The Great Gatsby Nick notes, Gatsby s house is also a
very lavish building (Fitzgerald 14). Gatsby s

Examples Of Cartesian Rationalism
Cartesian rationalism was founded by Rene Descartes who was a philosopher born 1596 1650. He is a
metaphysical realist. The Cartesian rationalism deals with skepticism, methodic doubt and
methodological skepticism. Rationalism is the idea that real knowledge can only be known through
reason. (Frame, 2014) Descartes believes that the mind is independent of the body. The mind just like
the soul lives on as the body perishes. He also believed that the only way knowledge is reliable is by
understanding reason through the mind. Are senses unreliable? Descartes questions if the things we
see might be an illusion such as water in a desert.
An example of this is the beeswax that Descartes tested. He wanted to test if his senses could be relied

He did the exact thing Descartes did, solved one problem and created another problem. He believed
the mind body problem could be solved by thinking and extension. These would be considered
characteristics of God. To back up his idea he came up with a solution. If God is a single substance
with two attributes thinking and extension then the characteristics associated with being a thinking
substance and those of being an extended substance are not separate and distinct, as they were for
Descartes. (Mitchell, 2015) As our minds and body are interrelated Spinoza viewed them as the same.
In his consideration the body is an aspect of the mind as well as the mind is the idea of the

The Emotions Of Love In Antigone By Sophocles
When in love, emotions become the driving factor in how people live their lives. Thoughts such as
what will they think of me if I say or do this? are all but too common within the mind of someone in
love. Due to this people go out of their way to avoid these any types of situation they would believe to
upset a loved one. This type of understanding can be seen in the play Antigone by Sophocles. In
ancient greece plays were similar to movies and TV shows. Perhaps without even knowing it, the
general public is highly influenced by the messages and themes that TV shows, Movies, Books, and
almost any form of entertainment they might express. This was same of plays in ancient greece, except
the themes were expressed through different tactics. In Antigone the tactic was using specific odes that
express specific themes in the play. Ode 4 expresses the themes: Love for a partner shouldn t control
the choices people make however, love is a natural occurrence that cannot be destroyed.
The ancient greeks language had many different words for love categorizing the different types. With
the theme love makes people do crazy things, they specifically point out the love between man and
women. In ancient greece, it was frowned upon to let you relationships with others to dictate your
decisions and actions for the greater good. Family was very important, but not as important as the
rules, laws, and the gods. In Ode 4, the chorus says Love! you wrench the minds of the righteous in

The Importance Of Pro-Bono Work
The first time that I began to appreciate the medical field was when I was wandering around Saint Luc
hospital at midnight, observing the hustle and bustle of the Emergency Room a few days prior to my
brain surgery. That initial pinprick of gratitude has morphed into a passion to help others, as well as an
admiration for health care professionals particularly neurosurgeons. The precision that lies behind
every stroke of their scalpels fills me with awe; for instance, the only remainder of my surgery is a
miniscule scar on my temple. Their dedication to helping others is also admirable; most of the
physicians that I have spoken with do quite a bit of pro Bono work. On account of this, I hope to
follow in their footsteps by also becoming a neurosurgeon.

The Pros And Cons Of Tragedy Donation
Introduction A charitable donation refers to a gift made by an organization or an individual to a private
foundation, charity or non profit organization. The U.S has allowed deduction on income tax to
individual and corporate donors for their charitable donations since 1917 (Colinvaux Dale, 2015).
Often, these donations represent the main source of funding for most of the nonprofit and charitable
organizations. In most countries, a charitable donation made to any of the qualifying organization
entitles one to an income tax deduction. Organizations that do not qualify as charitable are considered
for profit and are taxed accordingly to that effect. The Charitable Contributions Deduction entitles
taxpayers to a tax deduction for the financial year in which they made their donations. The aim of this
essay is to compare between the taxation of donations made to a charitable organization by a
corporation and that made by an individual.
Comparison of charitable contributions by a corporation versus and individual Individual shareholders
in a private company should compare whether they will realize higher tax benefits by personally
donating to charitable organizations or by donating through their corporation. A corporation qualifies
for similar charitable deductions that apply to individuals (Bank, 2017). The general rule for
allowance of deduction for individual and corporate charitable donations is that any charitable
donation (as defined in U.S Code (U.S.C) section 170

Psychopathy and Crime Essay
Psychopathy is a disease of the mind, in which the psychological state of someone has emotional or
behavioral problems serious enough to require psychiatric evaluation. Psychopaths have no concern
for the feelings of others and a complete disregard of any sense of social obligation. Psychopaths are
characterized by lack of empathy, poor impulse control and manipulative behaviors. They use charm,
manipulation, intimidation, and the use of severe to mild violence to satisfy their own needs.
Psychopathy is derived from two Greek words: psych, meaning soul, and pathos, meaning suffering.
They were once used to explain any form of mental illness. Psychopathy was recognized in the early
1800 s at which time Pinel explained the condition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

When first picking up this novel, the thick stack of pages intimidated me, but now I want to keep

pages are the two characteristics that have lead to me enjoying The Stand, so I shall evaluate them.
First, I appreciate Steven King s style of writing. The way the author writes entertains me because he
describes the characters and settings in a way that does not bore me to death. In the past, I have been
forced to read classics like To Kill a Mockingbird and Tom Sawyer, which are painful to read in my
opinion. In comparison to the previously mentioned, King s writing is descriptive, yet paced in a way
that the story is not adulterated the writing technique. Next, the character development is exceptional
in this book. So far the first 185 pages have been character development, and I have loved it. I have
mixed feelings towards some characters; I have already become attached to others, and then dislike
the remaining. My favorite character at the moment is Nick Andros. Being a deaf mute, it adds a

Effective Communication Skills Are Essential For Success
Introduction Effective Communication skills are essential for success in every organization.
Individuals today in the workplace need to effectively communicate with employees, customers and
potential clients. Effective and clear communication if not delivered in the right manner could be
interpreted by the receiver and have a negative impact. There are many barriers that can effect a
conversation such as cultural differences, gender and environment. Employees can learn how to adapt
in different situations to improve their skills and potentially avoid conflict. How can manager and
employees communicate effectively to remove cultural barriers and avoid misinterpretation of
interpersonal communication? This paper will focus on the preventative measures managers can take
when working with employees to bridge communication gaps that will prevent and solve problems.
Organizational Leaders within companies, front line managers and front line employees will learn
from this research.
Discussion
Communication happens when information is sent between two or more people primarily as a verbal
process however; the communication process can also be in writing and non verbal by using body
language. Companies today must ensure leadership managers have good communication skills to be
effective. Managers must be able to communicate effectively to team members especially to gain
feedback about ideas, issues or problem solving. Managers also will at times have to have difficult

Critics have said that is one of Pite best work. Dark Matters is as much a study of the human
condition, and of the violence in nature especially our own natures. This dance tiptoes along the edge
of hysteria, describing our clammy response to the unknown. (Johnson). Dark Matters explores violent
behavior and how all each person deals with their state of mind differently. However, there are some
critics who believe the movement is unrealistic. The movement lacks gravity because of constant rolls
and drifts in the body. The dancers in Kidd Pivot Frankfurt RM s new performance, Dark Matters, at
the Newmark Theatre, seem entirely unencumbered by the laws of physics. Their bodies float through
space and slide and roll across the ground like they ve never known gravity or friction. (Scott). It is
obvious that their movements took a lot of structure and discipline to perform. Furthermore, the
ending is what took everyone by surprise. This piece ended in a duet that was full on puppet like
qualities. The movement was constant and repetitive like someone was pulling the strings to control
them. The evening ends with a duet that s both puppet like and divinely human. Taken with everything
that came before it, you re left thinking about manipulation of every kind, and power, to the extent that
anyone has it. And that itself is powerful stuff. (Wisener). The ending left everyone in awe. It was
tragic when the male lead died from a broken heart. In the end the female lead began to pick at the
dead man heart. This part was inhumane because she was sewing his heart back together hoping that
he would come back to life. (Dark Matters). Overall, great performance. Pite did a good job at
imagining how she wanted her choreography and vision to come

Climate Analysis On Climate Archives
There is significant evidence from studies based on climate archives that the Earth s climate about 10
000 years ago was very different from the present climate; it has changed a lot since the last glacial
period which ended about 10 000 12 000 years ago (Chappell, 1998). Hence, about 10 000 years ago
the Earth was buried under ice sheets and it was much cooler than present temperatures (see Figure 1,
Appendix) (Chappell, 1998). The Earth that has been cycling between cold and warm climates for
ages and is currently in the interglacial period where it has slowly become warmer along with a rise in

Corals were first discovered about 200 million years, however most have grown over the last 10 000

Reefs, 2015). They have a long lifetime and rapid growth which makes them ideal climate archives for
studying the past climate (Ocean Circulation and Climate Dynamics, 2015). Along with the corals
there is the foraminifera; also referred to as sea floor fossils. These sea floor fossils are often found in
sediment cores and can reveal a variety of things about the past climate through ocean currents,
temperature and oxygen ratios. Also these fossils are the most common source of paleoceanographic
proxies, making them easily available (Kucera, 2007). Hence, foraminifera or sea floor fossils are an
ideal climate archives for studying the past climate from about 10 000 years ago alongside corals.
Information about the past climate can not only help us understand our present climate but can also

Corals, which are one of the climate archives been discussed, are living organisms who produce a

Market Entry Strategies
Market Entry Strategies
Sam C. Okoroafo Modes of Entering Foreign Markets
Okoroafo produced an article detailing a four step strategic model that firms should take into account
when deciding modes of entering foreign markets. The model consists of four steps:
1. Determine the feasible modes of operation (MOO)
There are many modes of operation suggested by many different researchers; however, Some
countries may prohibit use of some MOOs for reasons related to achieving their economic objectives .
This is supported by the suggestion of barriers to entry or threat of new entrants outlined in Porter s
Five Forces model. This is a factor that should be seriously considered by any firm producing
alcoholic beverages as there are more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this method of market entry may be considered as the European firm will be new to the
Australian market and will need some help in establishing their products and brand.
Joint ventures
When setting up joint ventures and alliances, there is a detailed formal agreement which outlines who
is involved in the business, who owns the assets, the management and control of the business, and
termination of the venture. This means that there is shared risk, shared knowledge and expertise and
ultimately a competitive advantage if two firms are in partnership with each other. However this might
mean that the competition is reduced and therefore Porter s National Diamond framework that
suggests that rivalry and competition strengthens a business national advantage is weaker.
Strategic Alliances, mergers and Acquisitions
A strategic alliance is defined in International business 5th edition (Rugman and Collinson) as a
business relationship in which two or more companies work together to achieve a collective advantage
The benefits of developing a strategic alliance for the European firm would be that they would be able
to acquire knowledge of new markets and technology, develop closer links with their suppliers and
customers and to reduce the pressure of competing with large competitors who are already established
in the Australian market.
If the European firm was to consider a

Yet what happens to those in the middle? Rabbi Aaron Friedman compares the middle of the road
students to the middle class in the economy. It is a big issue yet not many people have a solution for
them. He feels that rather than always putting the emphasis on the above average students which many
schools like to tout we need to have smaller classes which will help more students be able to keep up

Essay Analyzing Career Theories
It is simple to look at an individual s life and analyze and critique their choices based on our own
opinions and experiences. Is that fair? No. We may see their actions clearly but the reasoning behind
these is what we should focus on when it comes to judging someone s behavior or circumstances. A
common judgment made about a person is based on their career. In our society, it would behoove us to
look at the path that leads to becoming a doctor instead of a drug dealer.
Application of career theories to my own life allows for analyzing past and future career decisions.

Finally I reached the realistic period and I began to focus my education to prepare for a medical
career. As I have evolved, I find it simpler to make life changing choices. I am exceedingly more
decisive than in previous years because I am more secure with my internal self and due to my
experience, have the capacity to make educated decisions. TRANS Holland s Theory of Careers, while
very useful, represents a societal failing. Habitually we find ourselves judging people based on their
preliminary persona; however, more often than not we find out that there is much more under the
surface. Many entertainers appear to be confident and outgoing, but basic psychology confirms that
often their insecurities drive them to seek approval and praise from the public that comes with those
careers. Ginsberg and Super s Theories of Career Development have one major flaw. This theory does
not account for those individuals whom choose a career in childhood and never stray from their initial
path. Whereas others come to a standstill at one stage and never complete the process. Although the
ability to consistently and effectively apply both of these theories in a myriad of situations speak to
their legitimacy, clearly it is necessary to seek other career theories to supplement ones
conceptualization of this topic.

Predicting Performance Of Post Graduate Education From...
Predicting performance in post graduate education from admissions information comparisons of health
professions with pharmacy
Richard E Wilcox, PhD* and Kenneth A Lawson, PhD ABSTRACT
Objectives. The goal of the present review was to assess the state of performance prediction in health
care programs generally, versus performance in pharmacy schools, using didactic and non didactic
admissions measures. This is important because clinical success represents a combination of skills that
are not fully predicted by either type of measure alone.
Methods. PubMed searches were conducted focusing on work published from 2000 onwards, since it
is during this period that non didactic admissions measures have come to be incorporated into the
applicant evaluation process. Relevant papers that were available as free full text were used. When
these papers were not available by direct import into EndNote, we went directly to the journal to try to
retrieve the paper.
Results. Published literature clearly showed that prediction of performance in the didactic portions of
health care programs is straightforward when based on pre health care GPA and achievement test
scores. The best predictions are achieved when both measures are combined. While significant
statistical prediction is achieved in virtually every study, the percent of total performance variance
accounted for is also consistent and uniformly small in the order of 25%. Similarly, there is now an
emerging consensus that

Essay on 20th Century Approaches in Early Childhood Education
Did you know there are many kinds of programs and approaches used in early childhood education?
The 20th century was the start of inclusive classrooms and about the idea of education for all.
Education in the early preschool years boomed with early childhood development programs. While
there are many popular approaches, I find that Maria Montessori and Rudolf Steiner have the reliable
strait forward and captivating approaches to early childhood education.
Maria Montessori has an educational method that is in use today in public and private schools
throughout the world. The basic goals of the Montessori Method are to develop the child s
independence and productivity as well as preserve the dignity of the child while focusing on the ...

Children will stay with the class, and teacher, for the entire cycle, shaping a stable community and
meaningful bonds ( Introduction to montessori, 2011). You won t find the expected rows of school
desks in these programs either. Children work at tables or on the floor, rolling out mats on which to
work and define their work space. The classrooms are set up to have natural lighting, soft colors, and
uncluttered spaces for activities that are focused and calm. More than 4,000 Montessori schools dot
the American landscape, and thousands more can be found on 6 continents worldwide ( Introduction
to montessori, 2011).
Rudolf Steiner developed the Waldorf education. This is the view in which the child develops through
a number of basic stages as he/ she grows from childhood to adulthood. Waldorf education strives to
develop in each child their innate talents and abilities through the use of curriculum which develops
imagination and creativity ( Early child care, 2010). In the United States there are more than 160
schools across the continent, 250 early childhood centers. Within all these centers the approach to
learning in early childhood is through imitation, imagination and example. The basic goals of Waldorf
education are to build free, equal, and collaborative society. To develop free human beings who have a
purpose and a direction in life as well as to achieve a balanced development of mind, body, and spirit.

Humanistic Approach Analysis
Good evening, Owen.
Thank you for your response. I have read a couple of responses, and they are similar, in that they
mention that professional educators mix and match approaches to curriculum, more than, perhaps,
stick to one flavor. I mentioned in my post that I began as a supporter of the behavioral approach to
curriculum. Yet, now, I am full time teacher of record in a prime example of the humanistic approach
and I love it. I am an engineer by spirit, so I tend toward the behavior and systems approaches by
nature. However, I ve been involved in the International Baccalaureate curriculum for the past 6 years,
first as a parent, then as a substitute in the classroom, and currently as teacher of record for Middle
School Science. I ve watched my own children mature in the system, and then fail, because of their
point of entry. I ve seen other children mature from Kindergarten to Middle School and have noticed
the difference between those who started here in Kindergarten and those who came within two years
prior to Middle School.
Having said all that, I feel that I have had the opportunity to experience the behavioral approach to ...

Furthermore, I am proud to say our school is a C rating despite the testing. Ornstein and Hunkins
(2017) noted that the behavioral approach was based on a plan...a blueprint...or document . They noted
that learning outcomes were evaluated in relation to the goals and objective put into place. More
significantly, Ornstein and Hunkins offered Frederick Taylor s Machine Theory as a comparison to the
efficiency and effective nature expected from the behavioral approach (p. 2). Don t get me wrong, I
still see potential in the behavioral approach to curriculum but children are not

Fantasy Sports Should Not Be Considered Gambling
Fantasy Sports; gambling or not. Fantasy sports should not be considered gambling. Fantasy sports
requires the player to be knowledgeable about the sport that they are playing in. Gambling requires no
skill whatsoever. Any given day, the greatest poker playing in the world could be beaten by someone
who just read the rulebook. In fantasy sports, the more knowledgeable and experienced player will
have a better chance of winning in the end. Luck is a huge factor in gambling, not so in fantasy sports.
By definition gambling is risky, full of hunches and gut feelings. gambling on something usually
doesn t turn out the way the better hoped it would. With fantasy sports the luck is minimized. Finally,
Money is always involved with true gambling. Fantasy sports are often recreational. Friends at work
or at school will often start these leagues to have fun.
Players with more experience are more likely to win in fantasy sports. With gambling the same cannot
be said. Gambling has no real skill involved. If a person bets on a horse race, they do so with blind
faith in that horse. Sure, you can watch that horse and figure out if it can do well or not. At the end of
the day, none of that will matter. In fantasy sports players need experience to win. Yes, a player can
win in their first game. However the more experienced player will always have the ... Show more

Luck is the basis of gambling, in the same way, skill is the basis of fantasy sports. When someone is
gambling in a casino or at a late night poker game, the luck of the cards will decide whether the player
will leave elated or dejected. Fantasy sports require the player to conduct research, to analyze player
performance, and to scout the opposing team. The major parts of fantasy sports requires hard work,
not luck. Gambling is full of gut feelings and hunches. Playing in a casino is extremely unpredictable.
At any time a player could win or lose large amounts of

Blair Witch Project Analysis
The Blair Witch Project is a highly successful and widely innovative independent film that was
released on July 30th, 1999. The film followed three student filmmakers who aimed to create a
documentary about a local legend called the Blair Witch. While the film alluded to various hallmarks
of the horror film genre, it was groundbreaking in its marketing strategy, the use of found footage, and
cinematography.
In many ways, The Blair Witch Project adheres to various tropes and traditions of the horror movie
genre. The film includes some characteristics of the Italian Giallo genre. In both genres, the killer is
unknown and unseen to the audience. The giallo underscores the theme of sight and the ability to see
clearly (Bondanella 381). In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The monster triumphs over the protagonist(s), normative order is never restored, and the fates of the
the main characters and the monster are left uncertain (Pinedo 29 34). In The Blair Witch Project, the
protagonists are reported missing but we never see what actually happened to them. The town begins
exhaustive searches to find the students. The witch is never seen and presumably survives the film to
haunt the woods again. Like many other postmodern horror films, The Blair Witch Project plays on
insider knowledge that the audience has about the horror genre. The audiences know not to run into
abandoned houses, yell in the forest, or run away in different directions but the protagonists do not.
The audience then engages with the film using their insider knowledge by yelling or commenting at
the main characters to avoid the pitfalls of the horror genre.
The film also utilizes what Isabel Pinedo calls the pleasure of not seeing . She mentions that, The
blocked vision produced by the film heightens the intensity of the horror by refusing to show the
terrifying spectacle (54). The Blair Witch Project utilizes blocked vision through the use of the
camcorder. In the film, the viewer is only able to see what the protagonists see. In the darkness of the
night in the woods, the protagonists and the audience are unable to see what is terrorizing the main
characters in the night. In this sense, we express the same anxieties and fears of the

Holes By Louis Sachar
Holes Essay
Have you ever been in the right place at the wrong time? Well Stanley was and now his life has
changed forever. The book Holes by Louis Sachar is a story about friendship and bravery. Stanley is
sent to camp green lake after being accused of stealing shoes. The theme of holes is growing up
because the story involves youth such as Stanley, and in the story Stanley takes responsibility and
shows his innocence. In Holes Stanley is around 13 14 years old. He was accused of stealing a pair of
shoes, and was sent to camp green lake, a camp for boys to dig holes as a punishment. While he was
there he met other boys, like Zero, that he later became friends with. You may have done some bad
things, but that doesn t make you a bad kid.

  • 2. Analysis Of Where There s Smoke Theres Fire Patterson Where there s smoke there s fire by Russell Patterson Russell Patterson (December 26, 1893 March 17, 1977) was a celebrated and prolific American cartoonist, illustrator. Patterson s art helped develop and promote the idea of fashion style known as the flapper in the 1920s and 1930s. Flappers had their own hairstyles and ways of dressing, especially bobbed hair and short skirts. Flappers were a sign of changing times and more freedom for women to express themselves. The message that he is trying to express is how women new looks, jobs, and lifestyle were changing dramatically. His painting shows how women are feeling more confident about themselves, and start to go outside and have fun rather than staying at home all day and do the work. Where there s smoke there s fire by Russell Patterson was painted in 1920s. He used water color on an illustration board, and it is 45.1 cm by 59.2 cm. The painting has a fashionably dressed flapper with one hand on her hip and the other hand is holding the cigarette. She has a classic bobbed hair that all the flapper girls have. The girl is wearing a sexy white dress with pointed high heels. The smoke from the cigarette does not look like smoke. Her posture seems like a sassy girl with ... Thus, through cultre there is self discovery and belonging in a group of persons who share the same belief system; who have found themselves and are now seeking to digest more about one another through eachother s unearthing of one s self. Culture assists you not only in identifying who you are, but the sort of people you can surround yourself with due to common interests. In this society; I have witnessed cultural unity, cultural identity crisis and moreover a cultural divide and surprisingly all of those fold under the same umbrella in reagrds to knowing where you stand and those you choose to stand with. Currently, society is a huge caste system of choices to be made, opinions to be had and decision making. Often, many are questioned of whose side they are on awhile many don t have the opportunity to make that decision for they are often placed in a caste based off of appearances. This generation of millenials confuses the caste system with electronics being in the forefront of their upbringing; self discovery is no longer going to a park and playing with kids of similar interests on the playground; but now finding yourself is depicted by the amount of followers, likes and/ or views you possess. • 5. Jake s Reunion With His Wife Analysis Jake s reunion with his wife, which anyone would assume to be a joyful event for any long separated couple, did not reflect by any means any aspect of such jubilant atmosphere. Prior to seeing his wife Jake was described to be filled with joyous anticipation perhaps more due to his desire to show off his swell attire to her, rather than genuine love for the woman but this feeling soon waned as he caught a glimpse of her in her orthodox, sloven attire (pg. 33 34). Jake averted his face in pure disgust as soon as he saw Gitl (partially because of the hideous wig that she was wearing, which reminded him of just how un American she was) and wished that her release were delayed indefinitely (pg. 34). Jake hated his wife s traditional clothing, which was far more than unfair, for while he had spent quite a few years in America himself and had all the time he needed to adjust and transform into a poritz as his wife called him based on his appearance upon greeting her she had only a couple of minutes. • 6. The Overall Affect Of School Cancellations On The Class... One thing that I learned this week was the overall affect of school cancellations on the class syllabus. Mr. Allen s strategy for me is to teach every day, but to use the majority of his content prepared and lesson plans. However, with that being said, Mr. Allen and I have gone through each and every day to plan the lessons until March 6th, which is when I leave. The difficulty that has arisen is the amount of snow days that Brewer Community School has had. Last weeks two cancellations caused two very important activities to have to be thrown out and modify the week. Mr. Allen plans his units to only last a week and on Fridays, quizzes are taken to check for understanding. We were lucky that last week only had two days worth of notes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is both sad and frustrating, as there was a tremendous amount of work put in to the planning process. In the beginning I was looking forward to snow days, as they seemed like a break from teaching, but now I look at snow days and think how much of a head ache they are. It is nice to have a day off from school, but the amount of work put into planning is essentially wasted and free time that a teacher could have had is gone. Therefore, I am no praying that there are no more snow days and even if I am ever a teacher, I hope there is not, as time is wasted and overall, all that a teacher gets out of a snow day is a headache from frustration and re planning. Looking into the future, I believe that I will plan mini lesson plans for early release days, morning delays and even try to modify lesson plans for snow cancellations. Mr Allen, like myself, like to plan everything out and the thought of a class going ahead of another would stress me out, so in the event of an early release, or even morning delay, I believe that I will have lesson plans for this event that are connected to the material, but not essential. For example, a lesson plan that has research time and then a class debate would be one. There was disappointment when the battles weren t bloody even more so when the animals simply refused to fight. Between the rough treatment of the animals and the poor living conditions they faced, it was only a matter of time before someone lost their life. In 1686, a woman named Mary Jenkinson got too close to a lion. As she was petting its paw, the animal caught her arm in its mouth and tore it apart. • 9. Similarities And Differences Between Jesus And The Quran... Jesus in Islam Most Christians are well acquainted with the identity of Jesus as presented in the biblical canonical Gospels. However, most are not well versed in the Jesus presented in Islam. Contemporary Christian understanding of Jesus, his miracles, and his identity as a prophet has been most often mutually exclusive from that of the contemporary Islamic community. It is well established that there are many points of dissimilarity between the character representations of Jesus. Yet, there are also notable similarities. Jesus s miracles are discussed in both texts with varied stressed importance and purposes. With both traditions established in their respective religions, it is interesting to engage the concept that these pictures of Jesus could not be mutually exclusive. Examination of the Christology and miracles of Jesus in the Quran and Hadith allows contemporary Christian readers to view Jesus through a broader, historical lens. In Images of Jesus Christ in Islam, Oddbjorn Leirvik warns the reader that one can easily read the Quran with a Christian bias, ignoring historical context (28). Examining the similarities and differences in the Christologies presented in the Bible and the Quran can easily garner such biases. Out of the 200,000, 2.7 percent of them make up the front line units (CNN). This is approximately 5,400 women that are enlisted and are fighting on the front lines. This number is very low and should be much higher. This number represents the idea that the military believes women should not be on the front lines. Many people in society believe that what the military is doing is wrong and females should be able to fight on the front lines. There has been an official ban on women fighting on the front lines by the military. Recently many people are discussing the idea of lifting the ban and giving females the ability to fight in the front lines while the other party believes that women should not. This ban was stated in 1994 when the Pentagon restricted women from artillery, armor, infantry and other combat roles. In recent years, women had found themselves in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan and according to the Pentagon, hundreds of thousands of these women have been deployed in those conflicts (NYTIMESBANLIFT). One major benefit of lifting the ban will be the amount of jobs that will be created. This will allow a boost in job openings in the army. In 1861, a shortage of rifles on both sides forced the Northern and Southern governments purchase weapons from European nations. Also widely used was artillery including cannons. Some of the new weapon technologies used in the civil war include rifled gun barrels, the Minie ball and repeating rifles. In such a small country, there are many historical sites open for visitation, and museums built for history that they could not conserve. While there are many attractions in Japan for tourists, the most popular are sites with a lot of Japanese culture. As an aspiring archaeologist, I would absolutely spend most my time in Japan, should I ever get to go, touring the most popular historical locations. My favorite archaeological site in Japan is the Tomb of Emperor Nintoku. There are many reasons why I felt this site was the most intriguing, but the main reason was the extraordinary size of the tomb. It is about 486 meters long, about 307 meters wide, and 35.8 meters high. Supposing 2,000 people worked on it every day, it is estimated that it took about 16 years to build. The Tomb of Emperor Nintoku is one of the three largest tombs in the world, the other two being the Tomb of Qin Shi Huang in China and the pyramid of King Khufu in Egypt. Emperor Nintoku s tomb is also fascinating because the inside has not been excavated, so there is no guarantee that this tomb is in fact where Emperor Nintoku was buried. Emperor Nintoku was the most powerful person in Japan at the time that the tomb was being built, so it is a safe assumption that the tomb was built for him. To Autumn – A Proclamation of Life and Hope Essay To Autumn A Proclamation of Life and Hope The poem To Autumn is an amazing piece of work written by one of the greatest poets of all time, John Keats. From a simple reading, the poem paints a beautiful picture of the coming season. However, one may wonder if there is more to the poem than what the words simply say. After it is studied and topics such as sound, diction and imagery are analyzed, one can clearly say that Keats used those techniques to illustrate the progression of death, and to show that there is still life at the end of life. From the very beginning of To Autumn, sound appears to be an important aspect of Keats s technique. When the words are studied, there is an even mixture of loud and soft ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This tells of the great bounty of the current time, but adds a quiet feeling to it, such as what Keats was trying to communicate that death or a time of quiet is approaching. The second stanza has mainly quiet sounds. With words such as oft, store, swath, seeks, careless, soft lifted, and drowsed, the whole stanza is filled with soft s and w sounds. This makes the stanza very sleepy and slow but with a warm comfortable feeling. What is most brilliant is that he writes about sleep and then uses words that sound like sleep to describe it. That makes the reader really experience how he is explaining death with sounds, not just words. This change from stanza one also goes along with the progression of life. It started out loud and young, and now has begun to soften, such as life does when one grows older or nears death. The third stanza somewhat follows the course set down by the previous two stanzas, but it also does something surprising. One may predict that the third stanza becomes softer still, following the progression, yet it does not quite do so. It does start according to prediction, very quiet and feathery, with words such as stubble plains, rosy, wailful, sallows, and lives or dies. This is generally very soft, which continues the progression, but there is a hitch. Keats writes, And full grown lambs loud bleat from hilly bourn. • 20. Examples Of Cartesian Rationalism Cartesian rationalism was founded by Rene Descartes who was a philosopher born 1596 1650. He is a metaphysical realist. The Cartesian rationalism deals with skepticism, methodic doubt and methodological skepticism. Rationalism is the idea that real knowledge can only be known through reason. (Frame, 2014) Descartes believes that the mind is independent of the body. The mind just like the soul lives on as the body perishes. He also believed that the only way knowledge is reliable is by understanding reason through the mind. Are senses unreliable? • 21. The Emotions Of Love In Antigone By Sophocles When in love, emotions become the driving factor in how people live their lives. Thoughts such as what will they think of me if I say or do this? are all but too common within the mind of someone in love. Due to this people go out of their way to avoid these any types of situation they would believe to upset a loved one. This type of understanding can be seen in the play Antigone by Sophocles. In ancient greece plays were similar to movies and TV shows. Perhaps without even knowing it, the general public is highly influenced by the messages and themes that TV shows, Movies, Books, and almost any form of entertainment they might express. This was same of plays in ancient greece, except the themes were expressed through different tactics. In Antigone the tactic was using specific odes that express specific themes in the play. Ode 4 expresses the themes: Love for a partner shouldn t control the choices people make however, love is a natural occurrence that cannot be destroyed. The ancient greeks language had many different words for love categorizing the different types. With the theme love makes people do crazy things, they specifically point out the love between man and women. The Importance Of Pro-Bono Work The first time that I began to appreciate the medical field was when I was wandering around Saint Luc hospital at midnight, observing the hustle and bustle of the Emergency Room a few days prior to my brain surgery. The precision that lies behind every stroke of their scalpels fills me with awe; for instance, the only remainder of my surgery is a miniscule scar on my temple. • 24. The Pros And Cons Of Tragedy Donation Introduction A charitable donation refers to a gift made by an organization or an individual to a private foundation, charity or non profit organization. The U.S has allowed deduction on income tax to individual and corporate donors for their charitable donations since 1917 (Colinvaux Dale, 2015). Often, these donations represent the main source of funding for most of the nonprofit and charitable organizations. In most countries, a charitable donation made to any of the qualifying organization entitles one to an income tax deduction. Organizations that do not qualify as charitable are considered for profit and are taxed accordingly to that effect. The Charitable Contributions Deduction entitles taxpayers to a tax deduction for the financial year in which they made their donations. The aim of this essay is to compare between the taxation of donations made to a charitable organization by a corporation and that made by an individual. Comparison of charitable contributions by a corporation versus and individual Individual shareholders in a private company should compare whether they will realize higher tax benefits by personally donating to charitable organizations or by donating through their corporation. A corporation qualifies for similar charitable deductions that apply to individuals (Bank, 2017). Predicting performance in post graduate education from admissions information comparisons of health professions with pharmacy Richard E Wilcox, PhD* and Kenneth A Lawson, PhD ABSTRACT Objectives. The goal of the present review was to assess the state of performance prediction in health care programs generally, versus performance in pharmacy schools, using didactic and non didactic admissions measures. This is important because clinical success represents a combination of skills that are not fully predicted by either type of measure alone. Methods. PubMed searches were conducted focusing on work published from 2000 onwards, since it is during this period that non didactic admissions measures have come to be incorporated into the applicant evaluation process. Relevant papers that were available as free full text were used. When these papers were not available by direct import into EndNote, we went directly to the journal to try to retrieve the paper. Results. Published literature clearly showed that prediction of performance in the didactic portions of health care programs is straightforward when based on pre health care GPA and achievement test scores. The best predictions are achieved when both measures are combined. While significant statistical prediction is achieved in virtually every study, the percent of total performance variance accounted for is also consistent and uniformly small in the order of 25%. Similarly, there is now an emerging consensus that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Essay on 20th Century Approaches in Early Childhood Education Did you know there are many kinds of programs and approaches used in early childhood education? The 20th century was the start of inclusive classrooms and about the idea of education for all. Education in the early preschool years boomed with early childhood development programs. While there are many popular approaches, I find that Maria Montessori and Rudolf Steiner have the reliable strait forward and captivating approaches to early childhood education. Maria Montessori has an educational method that is in use today in public and private schools throughout the world. The basic goals of the Montessori Method are to develop the child s independence and productivity as well as preserve the dignity of the child while focusing on the ... You won t find the expected rows of school desks in these programs either. Children work at tables or on the floor, rolling out mats on which to work and define their work space. The classrooms are set up to have natural lighting, soft colors, and uncluttered spaces for activities that are focused and calm. More than 4,000 Montessori schools dot the American landscape, and thousands more can be found on 6 continents worldwide ( Introduction to montessori, 2011). Rudolf Steiner developed the Waldorf education. This is the view in which the child develops through a number of basic stages as he/ she grows from childhood to adulthood. Waldorf education strives to develop in each child their innate talents and abilities through the use of curriculum which develops imagination and creativity ( Early child care, 2010). In the United States there are more than 160 schools across the continent, 250 early childhood centers. Within all these centers the approach to learning in early childhood is through imitation, imagination and example. The basic goals of Waldorf education are to build free, equal, and collaborative society. To develop free human beings who have a purpose and a direction in life as well as to achieve a balanced development of mind, body, and spirit. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Humanistic Approach Analysis Good evening, Owen. Thank you for your response. I have read a couple of responses, and they are similar, in that they mention that professional educators mix and match approaches to curriculum, more than, perhaps, stick to one flavor. I mentioned in my post that I began as a supporter of the behavioral approach to curriculum. Yet, now, I am full time teacher of record in a prime example of the humanistic approach and I love it. I am an engineer by spirit, so I tend toward the behavior and systems approaches by nature. However, I ve been involved in the International Baccalaureate curriculum for the past 6 years, first as a parent, then as a substitute in the classroom, and currently as teacher of record for Middle School Science. I ve watched my own children mature in the system, and then fail, because of their point of entry. I ve seen other children mature from Kindergarten to Middle School and have noticed the difference between those who started here in Kindergarten and those who came within two years prior to Middle School. Having said all that, I feel that I have had the opportunity to experience the behavioral approach to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They noted that learning outcomes were evaluated in relation to the goals and objective put into place. More significantly, Ornstein and Hunkins offered Frederick Taylor s Machine Theory as a comparison to the efficiency and effective nature expected from the behavioral approach (p. 2). • 43. Fantasy Sports Should Not Be Considered Gambling Fantasy Sports; gambling or not. Fantasy sports should not be considered gambling. Fantasy sports requires the player to be knowledgeable about the sport that they are playing in. Gambling requires no skill whatsoever. Any given day, the greatest poker playing in the world could be beaten by someone who just read the rulebook. In fantasy sports, the more knowledgeable and experienced player will have a better chance of winning in the end. Luck is a huge factor in gambling, not so in fantasy sports. By definition gambling is risky, full of hunches and gut feelings. gambling on something usually doesn t turn out the way the better hoped it would. With fantasy sports the luck is minimized. Finally, Money is always involved with true gambling. Fantasy sports are often recreational. Friends at work or at school will often start these leagues to have fun. Players with more experience are more likely to win in fantasy sports. With gambling the same cannot be said. Gambling has no real skill involved. If a person bets on a horse race, they do so with blind faith in that horse. Sure, you can watch that horse and figure out if it can do well or not. At the end of the day, none of that will matter. In fantasy sports players need experience to win. Yes, a player can win in their first game. However the more experienced player will always have the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When someone is gambling in a casino or at a late night poker game, the luck of the cards will decide whether the player will leave elated or dejected. Fantasy sports require the player to conduct research, to analyze player performance, and to scout the opposing team. The major parts of fantasy sports requires hard work, not luck. • 44. Blair Witch Project Analysis The Blair Witch Project is a highly successful and widely innovative independent film that was released on July 30th, 1999. The film followed three student filmmakers who aimed to create a documentary about a local legend called the Blair Witch. While the film alluded to various hallmarks of the horror film genre, it was groundbreaking in its marketing strategy, the use of found footage, and cinematography. In many ways, The Blair Witch Project adheres to various tropes and traditions of the horror movie genre. The film includes some characteristics of the Italian Giallo genre. In both genres, the killer is unknown and unseen to the audience. The giallo underscores the theme of sight and the ability to see clearly (Bondanella 381). In ... The monster triumphs over the protagonist(s), normative order is never restored, and the fates of the the main characters and the monster are left uncertain (Pinedo 29 34). In The Blair Witch Project, the protagonists are reported missing but we never see what actually happened to them. The town begins exhaustive searches to find the students. The witch is never seen and presumably survives the film to haunt the woods again. Like many other postmodern horror films, The Blair Witch Project plays on insider knowledge that the audience has about the horror genre. The audiences know not to run into abandoned houses, yell in the forest, or run away in different directions but the protagonists do not. The audience then engages with the film using their insider knowledge by yelling or commenting at the main characters to avoid the pitfalls of the horror genre. The film also utilizes what Isabel Pinedo calls the pleasure of not seeing . She mentions that, The blocked vision produced by the film heightens the intensity of the horror by refusing to show the terrifying spectacle (54). The Blair Witch Project utilizes blocked vision through the use of the camcorder. In the film, the viewer is only able to see what the protagonists see. In the darkness of the night in the woods, the protagonists and the audience are unable to see what is terrorizing the main characters in the night. In this sense, we express the same anxieties and fears of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
