The Faerie Queen By Edmund Spencer
The Faerie Queen by Edmund Spencer uses erotic and mystifying dreams to provide insight into the
representation of gender relations; it is through women that the emotional state of desire as well as
terror is experienced. Throughout the epic women dominate the visions experienced by the knights
which sometimes makes the dreams more complex and difficult to interpret. Interestingly, the male
counterparts within the context of the epic explore controversial implications of their virtues as men,
because of how they conceptualize women within their dreams. In the first canto of the epic the Red
Cross Knight conceptualizes Una in his dream as a deceiver. However, it is Archimago that is
responsible for Kinght s sense of deception as he sends an emissary to the underworld to acquire a fit
false dreame (I.i.43.9) with the sole purpose of taunting the Red Cross Knight. Archimago wants to
take advantage of his thoughts and feeling towards Una. A dream of this nature would corrupt his
chivalric code, and strip him down to a mere man his manly hart did melt away (I.i.47.5), left Red
Cross bathed in wanton blis and wicked ioy (I.i.47.6), then prompted him to fly into a rage against the
innocent Una. The Red Cross Knight is tormented by the dream of Una , and yet is plagued once again
by Archimago who sends a springht, that feigning dreame, and that faire forged Spright (I.ii.2.2) to
give the knight with a vision of Una engaging sexually in an illicit manner. Not surprisingly,

Thomas Hardy s The Darkling Thrush And The Lost Baby Poem
Imagine a time when you or someone you know has gone through loss; how alone that feeling was.
Yet, the hardship it brought did not last forever. There was always something that made life worth
living again. Life is filled with sad endings and bright, new beginnings. It is an inevitable cycle that
everyone can relate to on some level. Whether it is the ending of a life or the end of a century, both
Lucille Clifton and Thomas Hardy prove that endings can be difficult, yet there is some form of hope
within each of their poems. Hardy s The Darkling Thrush and Clifton s The Lost Baby Poem have
different styles due to the poets vastly different backgrounds, yet both poems posses a similar somber
tone throughout, with a glimmer of positivity by the end of each. Lucille Clifton and Thomas Hardy
have vastly different writing styles, which could be attributed to their dissimilar backgrounds. Clifton,
a 20th century African American poet, wrote short yet powerful poetry, and her use of lowercase type
in a large portion of her works makes her tone come off as understanding to the average reader.
Another interpretation of her use of lowercase type in The Lost Baby Poem specifically, is the idea
that Clifton was ashamed of herself and therefor did not feel worthy of writing in a distinguished
manner. My interpretation of her lack of punctuation makes her tone seem dismal and depressed.
Hardy, who comes from English descent, lived through lots of turmoil, including WWI, and his

Short Stories
The themes of short stories are often relevant to real life? To what extent do you agree with this view?
In the short stories Miss Brill and Frau Brechenmacher attends a wedding written by Katherine
Mansfield, the themes which are relevant to real life in Miss Brill are isolation and appearance versus
reality. Likewise Frau Brechenmacher suffers through isolation throughout the story and also male
dominance is one of the major themes that are highlighted in the story. These themes are relevant to
real life as women are likely to suffer more in their life than men.
In Miss Brill one of the central theme is isolation as Miss Brill is mentally isolated this is portrayed
when she takes her fur out of the box which is symbolic of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Through her actions which gives us an insight that she is emotionally isolated from her husband. Frau
brechenmacher is also socially isolated, this is portrayed when one of the lady at wedding mentions
my dear you skirt is open at the back...we could not help laughing as you walked up the room with
white tape of your petticoat showing . Also highlighted when all laughing at her because they were so
much stronger then she was . This quote refers to the point that she is emotionally weak, as she asserts
her humanity through her fear. As the women laugh at her, Frau brechenmacher feels humiliated and
betrayed by someone she expected to be united with. This theme is relevant to real life as in both the
short story women are likely to struggle more than men.
Another theme which is highlighted in the story is male dominance which is portrayed when Frau
Brechenmacher addresses Herr Brechnmacher by the father . This represents Herr Brechenmacher s
dominating character towards Frau Brechenmacher. This also shows a weak bond of understanding
between Herr and Frau Brechenmacher. Reason for Frau Brechenmacher showing her submissive
behaviour towards her husband as mentioned girls have a lot to learn . This highlights that she has
learnt her lesson too well and passes the message onto the reader to give us an insight of role of
women in early 19th century. She is used for sexual purposes as depicted in story she puts her arms
across her face

The Backyard Of My Father s Rickety House Essay
There used to be a small town in the backyard of my father s rickety house. It wasn t constructed by
carpenters or designed by architects. This primitive village was built by children with overactive
imaginations and an abundance of time. In fact, I was the one, who came up with the idea to build it.
During the summer of 2010, my two stepsisters and I had exhausted all of our summer activity
options. Everyday, we were in the pool or riding our shiny bikes up and down the gravel driveway.
Even though I only visited my father for a week at most, I couldn t help, but feel like these activities
were becoming repetitive and unenjoyable. Commonly, this would cause anyone to search for
something else more interesting to spend their time on. I found that something to be an untouched
wooded area on the side of my father s property. No one usually went near there due to the glass and
the creatures living under the leaves. Whenever it would rain, snakes would emerge from those woods
to play in the puddles near our house. Needless to say, it took a few years for a group of girls to work
up the courage to explore the snake s natural habitat. Before my step sisters and I started to clear the
forest, we had to ask for permission to use our parent s yard tools. Sadly, I had sent my step sister
Kelsey to ask because I was too afraid that my step mother would say no . In short, my step parent was
a tall, blond woman in her early twenties, who mostly laid around on the couch

Quine And Carnap Debate
The end of Metaphysics
Quine and Carnap

Introduction
This essay will discuss the status or worth of metaphysics in light of the theories of Willard Orval
Quine and Rudolf Carnap. Both 20th century philosophers rejected metaphysics as a legitimate branch
of philosophy or science for their own reasons. Despite their agreement on this issue they disagreed on
many related topics. To clearly understand either philosophers views on the worth of metaphysics one
needs to look into the long lasting dispute between these thinkers regarding these topics.
The backbone of this essay then will be an overview of what is known as the Quine Carnap debate.
We will discuss the relevant elements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These truths are of the a priori kind. Theory internal question are answered either by analyticity alone,
or a combination between empiricism and analyticity. Either way these questions depend on
something self sustaining to build on. Analytic statements, understood as statements true by virtue of
their own meaning, can supply this type of foundation. Saying analytic statements are true by virtue of
their own meaning is really to say they are true by virtue of the linguistic structure typical for our
adopted framework. Carnap, by this notion of analyticity, does not need justification for truth
statements from reality. Analytic statements are true by virtue of their semantic expressions, which is
our construct. Carnap s analytic statements are distinctly different from his synthetic. Synthetic
statements need, in part, evidence and justification from outside. It is not in their definition. Quine s
arguments for the non existence of the analytic synthetic distinction is a problem because now that
they are not opposite, isolated concepts they can be seen as two side of the same continuum.
Statements are no longer either synthetic or analytic but analytic/synthetic in varying degrees. What
this means is that analytic statements (if this is the proper name) are (in varying degrees) in need of
justification as well. What this means for Carnap is that his a priori type justifications are no longer as
certain or

Use Of Forensic DNA Profiling
The use of forensic DNA can be a valuable tool in the investigative field. The use of DNA profiling
has only been around for 20 years in criminal investigations. The first famous DNA forensic analysis
took place in 1986 when the British police used DNA fingerprinting to solve a case involving the rape
and murder of two girls. Today, police departments work with the Combined DNA Index System of
the FBI, which has computerized records of the DNA of individuals who have been convicted in the
past. Recently, federal laws have been passed to include preconviction DNA in their databases. In
2013, the Supreme Court ruled in the case of Maryland v. King that the collection and testing of DNA
can be done without a warrant.
Today, many people are concerned

Stereotypes In The Worn Path
The Worn Path seemed to be, on the surface, a useless tale of an old, confused woman on a journey.
However, once the story is more thoroughly analyzed, many alternative meanings are uncovered. The
story is all about sacrifice. The woman is so old and her body is shutting down, however she walks all
that way just to get the medicine for her grandson. She will not give up on her grandson and is
determined to keep going for him and to keep him as healthy as possible. What I thought to be
interesting is that she never asked anybody in town to bring the medicine to her or to come check on
her every day to (not to be morbid) make sure the grandmother is still alive! The race of the nurses is
never specified, but perhaps they are white, and if they are white it makes perfect sense why she
wouldn t want to ask for help. It seems reasonable not to want help from a race that just several
decades ago treated your family like animals, and still now treat you like a lesser person. She can do it
own her own and she will show them that. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She feels defeated and lonely because her son and other people of her race are consider lesser than the
white people. She is a caretaker which was one of the two stereotypes of black women around that
time. Even though people favored this stereotype of black women, they still were treating her as a
lesser being, because they always saw her as their servant. A metaphorical example of racism can be
seen on page 223 when a little boy brought her a plate with slice of marble cake on it.. when she went
to take it there was just her own hand in the air. This represents the fact that being treated equally is
almost there for her but it isn t there in reality. The equality is represented by cake because cake is

As soon as someone matures, they lose their essence of youth. This can be seen in the book when
Holden introduces the character Jane. Jane and Holden hold a complicated relationship. Unlike any
other relationship Holden had, this relationship was of Holdens likings towards Jane. This can be seen
in the following excerpt I really got to know her quite intimately. I don t mean it was anything
physical or anything it wasn t but we saw each other all the time . (Salinger 85). From this excerpt, it
is pretty obvious that Holden holds strong feelings for Jane. The word choice that Salinger used
intimately a word used to mainly describe scenes of physical attraction/interaction, he used this word
to mean the close mental connection of holden and janes. Hw wanted to mentally trick the reader by
using intimately in a different connotation. The character Jane is brought up when Holden s roommate
at the time Stradlater had a date with Jane. Everything was fine for Holden except for the fact that it
was Stradlater, who was going on a date with Jane. Holden describes Stradlater as a sexy bastard
(Salinger 39) and that he makes moves on everyone who he dates. Holden is afraid that Stradlater will
strip Janes innocence by having sex with her, only which adults

Descriptive Essay On Christmas
Christmas Eve Lasagna In our house lasagna is a dish made for special occasions, my mom is the only
one that makes it. Every year, before my grandfather passed away, my mom would make lasagna for
my brother, father, grandfather, and I. When I was in elementary school my grandfather and
grandmother got divorced, they couldn t even be in the same room together. Therefore, in order to be
able to spend time with both of them during the holidays we would need to have two of each holiday.
Christmas Eve is when we would have Christmas with my grandfather. Lasagna isn t just my favorite
meal because it tastes good, it is the memories of my grandfather s strength and fight that are
associated with it that makes the meal special. People often said that wherever my grandfather went he
always made new friends or enemies. This explains his personality perfectly, he always made an
everlasting impression, not afraid to voice his opinions. When I was around him he was always telling
stories about his days of playing minor league baseball under the Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota
Twins organizations or his days of being a K9 trooper for the New Hampshire State Police. He was
someone that I admired and loved being around. Some of the best memories are the ones where we are
sitting around the table on Christmas Eve eating our lasagna and munching on some garlic bread.
Everything changed when he became sick, but he was a fighter. My grandfather wasn t going to let the

The Three Alones Of Reformation Theology
Question 1. What are the three alones of Reformation theology? How do they relate to one another in
Luther s theology? How does Luther s use of them respond to the dominant question of the sixteenth
century: How can I know that God is favorable to me?
The three alones in Reformation theology refer to that which is needed for justification or salvation
favorableness in the sight of God. Luther describes them as 1) Christ, or the Gospel of Christ
(Scripture), alone, 2) faith alone, and 3) grace alone. Each of these three are essentially united in
Luther s theology.
Christ is the most important factor in the three, because without Christ and without His Word, as
recorded in Scripture, one cannot begin to have faith or hope to receive the necessary grace that comes
with faith and guarantees salvation. As Luther states, One thing, and one alone, is necessary for life,
justification, and Christian liberty; and that is the most holy word of God, the Gospel of Christ
(Luther, p. 9). Through Christ and the preaching of His Word comes belief. If one believes, that is has
faith, which implies trust and commitment, then one is justified and has found favor in God s eyes:
For faith alone, and the efficacious use of the word of God, bring salvation (Luther, p. 9)
Luther downplays the importance of works in the justification of man and instead emphasizes the
place of faith and the grace that goes with it: For the word of God cannot be received and honoured by
any works,

Carl Jung s Theories And Theories
Carl Jung was one of the main theorists in the Psychodynamic field and created his own theory,
psychoanalysis. Jung was a student of Freud and his theories and ideas very much align with Freud s
theories. The similarities are evident in Jung s ideas of unconsciousness, his theory of the libido, and
is his notions of archetypes. The main difference is that Jung emphasized other factors besides
childhood memories. He partly focused on future aspirations and also delved into the supernatural in
his theories and ideas. Jung was one of the first to implement a theory on personality as well. To this
day we still refer to Jung s ideas of introversion and extroversion. Contemporary music has adopted
facets of Jung s theories in their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jung s psyche notion is broke into three parts: the ego, the personal unconscious, and the collective
unconscious. The ego is the awareness of the person and includes memories, cognitions, and affect.
The unconscious had a direct effect on personality in Jung s eyes, and was broken down into two
parts. The first part is the personal consciousness, this can contain personal information along with
repressed or forgotten past experiences. One of the major parts of the personal consciousness is the
complex. This notion is still referred to in the mainstream public and was a topic for many self help
books. The complex are the cognitions used on a particular topic, and the more emphasis put on the
topic the greater the complex. The last part is the collective unconscious. This was brought about by
Jung s research into the Native Americans, the supernatural, and through dream analysis. This level of
unconsciousness is shared throughout humanity and can explain why the same motifs are found in
dreams from people who do not communicate with one another. It is comprised of all the human
experience from the present to our ancestral past. It very much has an evolutionary aspect in that
experiences that our ancestors may have incurred are embedded deep within each person s
consciousness as a totality of the human experience. Archetypes are any artifacts, cognitions, or
instances from our cultural past that tend to show up

The Pros And Cons Of European Soft Power
If we look at our world today and at our world seventy years ago we will observe many changes that
world has had. Technological progress, climatic change, increasing process of globalization, view
toward politics and international relations. A couple of years ago hard power was dominated in
conducting foreign policy and managing international relations. As years go on, old methods of
politics are becoming irrelevant, inapplicable and sometimes even dangerous. However, some states,
as the USA, still used to think that hard power is quite good mean of conducting politics, while
Europe is considered to be the incarnation of soft power.
The term soft power was first implemented by Joseph S. Nye in 1990. Later he described soft power
in his book Soft Power: The Means to Success in World Politics as the ability to get what you want
through attraction rather than coercion or payments (Nye, 2004).
Although term soft power was implemented only two decades ago, clear examples of it were observed
earlier. For instance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

On the Development of Quantum Computers and Cryptography
In 2010, the United States government, after accessing encrypted files by means of physical
intervention, exposed ten Russian sleeper agents; in 2013, the United States government, without any
means of physical intervention, surreptitiously collected and promptly decrypted many previously
encrypted (Wood). Within this decade, concerns regarding the dubious security of contemporary
cryptography will begin to emerge as the secrets of quantum computing quickly unravel. Companies
that rely on Moore s law, which asserts that computing power doubles every eighteen months, to

These individuals cite a three qubit impasse, which states that because quantum computers have not
become more complex than three qubits, they will not become more complex than three qubits. From
the start of serious research in 2001 up until recently, this argument had remained tenable. But, the
human endeavor to create technological advancements would not relent. This drive proved itself as
successful in 2012, when D Wave Systems, a quantum computing company founded in 1999,
announced that their work on a 512 qubit quantum computer had concluded. D Wave then went on to
state that they would computer would reveal the computer later that year, albeit with a limited range of
abilities. Since then, companies such as Google and the National Aeronautics and Space Association
(NASA) have begun to work in conjunction with D Wave to improve upon their prototype and apply
them to calculations to discover new potential. Nevertheless, dogmatic advocates for RSA hold the
proposition that their point still stands as these do not count as full fledged quantum computers. With
the progression of time, the development of quantum computers will do as it has already done once
and relegate the power of the three qubit impasse to a continually smaller role.
While RSA performs its final show, a new system débuts. Praised by some as unbreakable, they call

In simple words lobbying is way of influencing a person or employee who has the power to make or

right about not placing rigid limitations on interest groups as it has placed on individuals because if
those limitations are lifted from the individuals and they have same power as the interest groups, they
will be too many bills demanding their own benefit. In my opinion, the collective influence of interest
groups does override the ability to influence politics as some citizens may fall into leader s false
promises and act for their individual needs but the collective has a major influence as citizens expect
their need to be taken care of. The NARAL (National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action

Advantages And Differences Of Catholic School And Public...
In America today, Americans have progressively paid more attention to the schooling process, trying
harder to get the best education possible for their children. Catholic schools and Public schools both
have advantages and disadvantages. Today, parents choose whether they would like to have their child
in a public or private school. Both schools provide education and opportunities for students, but the
decision of where to go is based on preferences of the parents. As educational institutions, Catholic
Schools and Public schools are similar, yet different. The instructors in both Catholic and Public
schools have similar teaching skills, yet differences exist. Catholic school reputation is one of being
uptight and strict. The strictness of Catholic schools focuses on how long the uniform skirt is, having
the uniform shirt always tucked in, wearing the right ankle socks, and not wearing makeup. Catholic
schools discipline is not extreme. If a student becomes in trouble, the instructor would call the parents,
there is not detention. Catholic school is very conservative. Catholic schools have certain numbers of
students, so they are not exposed to different types of people. Catholic school held a high reputation
on how students should act in class. Being Catholic was very important in the school, and if not
Catholic the students would judge the non Catholic. Public school is opened to people with different
preferences. The open mindedness of Public schools allows students to

(AI) Effort to develop computer based systems:  that behave like humans:  learn languages 

based on AI research, advocates of AI have argued that opponents of AI have repeatedly changed their
position on tasks such as computer chess or speech recognition that were previously regarded as
intelligent in order to deny the accomplishments of AI. They point out that this moving of the
goalposts effectively defines intelligence as whatever humans can do that machines cannot . A speech
recognition system is a type of software that allows the user to have their spoken words converted into
written text in a computer application such as a word processor or spreadsheet. The computer can also
be controlled by the use of spoken commands. Speech recognition software can be installed on a
personal computer of appropriate specification. The user speaks into a microphone (a headphone
microphone is usually supplied with the product). The software generally requires an initial training
and enrolment process in order to teach the software to recognize the voice of the user. A voice profile
is then produced that is unique to that individual. This procedure also helps the user to learn how to
speak to a computer.

a. For the frequency table: students will use their previous knowledge of tally marks and build on that
by taking it one step further and making a frequency table using pretzel sticks. They are going to use
their desk to create a frequency table using their dry erase markers and pretzel sticks. Walk them
through how to draw it using the illustration below for clarity. They will need to fill in the types of
pies before being given the data; you can use the types of pies that are listed in the book on page 12, or
you can have the class fill it in with 4 different types of pies. After they have drawn their table, they
will need to fill it in. Give them the following data: First row (whatever type of pie you decided) 8,
second row 4, third row 11, fourth row 5. As you give them each number, they need to fill in the tally
section with that number of pretzel sticks; the fifth pretzel stick should sit diagonally across the other
pretzel sticks just like regular tally marks. Once they have all their tally marks, have them write the
numerical total for each row in the last column. b. For Dot Plot (found on page 13): The students are

Summary Of The Snow Man By Sunn Stevens
In spirit and in style, the collection is extremely diverse, even to the point of being disjointed (imagine
Stevens chagrin!). Perhaps the most obvious is Stevens choice of voice across the set; some are
presented semi formally; e.g. Of Heaven Considered as a Tomb . Others are written more as vignettes,
e.g. Cy Est Pourtraicte, Madame Ste Ursule, et Les Unze Mille Vierges. The main identify feature of
voice is that Stevens avoids a first person, which allows him some freedom from projecting an identity
and allows him to be more analytical.
A note: Sunday Morning is far and away Stevens best poem in Harmonium, and may be the best he
ever wrote, but it also does not fit with the overall style of the collection and as such I will pretend that
it does not exist. Additionally, its length and copious allusions make it unsuitable for a fair analysis at
present. Instead, The Snow Man and other vignettes match much more neatly here.
The Snow Man is one of the most easily understood poems in Harmonium. It is also definitively
human and personal, drawing on experiences shared by Americans at large, but examined in a way
removed from normal December festivities. Stevens describes what he means to have a mind of winter
: though a normal observer would observe the spruces, rough in the distant glitter and the junipers
shagged with ice as simply part of a scene, Stevens separates the scenery from the observer and the
reader in the final stanza (Stevens 9 10). His

Essay on Social Expectations of Women
Kimberly Griffis Eula Thompson English 101 Tues/Thurs 9:30 The Effect Social Expectations of the
Nineteenth Century Had on Women Living in That Time Period The behaviors and desires of women
the nineteenth century were impacted strongly by the social expectations of their time. Kate Chopin s
character, Louise Mallard, from The Story of an Hour , Emily Grierson from A Rose for Emily by
Willliam Faulkner, and the character Roselily from Alice Walker s Roselily are all examples of women
restricted by the time they live in. Women in the nineteenth century were expected to get married and

Her father thought that she should be a housekeeper and never let her leave the house. Emily wanted a
family and a husband but back then marriages were more for convienence and not for love. Emily
wanted love and this kept from marrying someone she did not have feelings for. After Emily s father
died she no longer had to live up to his expectations but because he never let her leave the house she
was unfamiliar with the new, modern ideas and did not embrace them because she was so used to the
ideals her father had instilled her. Another expectation of women was that they were not to handle
money. A group of men came to Emily for taxes and she denied, saying I have no taxes in Jefferson. It
was a man s job to take care of all money transactions because they worked for the money and
because women could not buy land in the nineteenth century, taxes were left to the men. Emily kept
saying she had no taxes because she still lived up to the social expectation that women could not
handle money. In the story the ladies were gossiping about Miss Emily and one of them said Just as if
a man any man could keep a kitchen properly. It was a woman s job to keep the kitchen and the ladies
disapproved that Emily was not running her kitchen. Men and women in the nineteenth century were
raised up to get married and never take a lover. Women, and their families, were expected to go to

Lord Of The Flies Critical Lens Analysis
Being Consumed by Fear Leads to Regrettable Decisions When people are little kids, it is easy for
them to feed into their fears and become dependent on adults for comfort. As adults, people usually
conceal their fears and try to keep a clear mindset so unnecessary issues do not occur. In Stephen King
s adaptation The Mist and William Golding s novel The Lord of The Flies, adults and children are
pulled into their fears and eventually feed into them. In The Lord of The Flies, a plane full of British
boys crashes on a deserted island with no adults in sight. The boys slowly turn on each other and, due
to a mysterious beast, they are consumed by fear and behave irrationally. In The Mist, a fog rolls
through town with unknown creatures lurking inside and people are terrified. The town s citizens are
trapped inside a grocery store, and when they want to go out, death has it s doors open and waiting.
Slowly, the people inside start to lose human decency toward each other and chaos breaks out. In both
of these stories, people are controlled by fear, have no concept of law and order, and turn a blind eye
to logic. When people feel safe and confident, they have a level mind set. In the beginning of The
Lord of The Flies, a little boy with a mulberry birth mark tells the boys leader Ralph that he saw a
beastie. At first, everyone keeps their eyes open for a frightening snake. Overtime, the beastie turns
into something even more revolting and the boys are terrified. They believe it

Compare And Contrast Between Pornography And Art
We can assume that most things can be separated into right or wrong, black or white but in truth,
where are we to determine an actual line when the fields can overlap even in the slightest? In the case
of the border between Pornography and Art, at a surface and mundane level, we are able to distinguish
one extreme from the other immediately. In this essay I intend to analyse each point of the spectrum
from art to erotic art to pornography. The research question I am going to be exploring is What social
tools are applied to images in order to categorize them as being either erotic, pornographic or merely
acceptable art, and can there be a single true interpretation?
Definitions / Beginning

Important to take into account with the definitions of pornography and eroticsm, is that an
extensionally adequate definition should exclude scientific behavioral studies or medical illustrations
of sexual activity, which tend to be neither erotic nor artistic in nature showing that there are several
ways to depict a sexual encounter, without the sexuality being part of the depiction.
Erotic Art, furthering this point, when defined by Peter Webb in his book The Erotic Arts is art on a
sexual theme related specifically to emotions rather than merely actions, and sexual depictions which
are justifiable on aesthetic grounds . I feel this definition is ample in explaining that there must be an
underlying sexual theme shown in the art works, but that the main purpose of Art is to be about the
aesthetics of the object and of the emotions of the characters instead of causing the pornographic
purpose of only

Persuasive Essay On Sports Vs Sports
With the NFL season coming to a close and the Superbowl a few days away, my friends began
planning on getting together for a Superbowl party. Awesome! I thought to myself and offered to bring
food to the party. I went to the grocery store to get food and saw that the store changed its theme to be
Super Bowl themed. I thought this was interesting to see that a little grocery store in the State College
area would change the layout and decorations of the store to appeal to the fans of the game. As I
noticed this, I started thinking about football and the impact it has on regular American citizens
nowadays. No other event this year would make my friends and me get together and hang out to watch
TV together. I assumed that many people are in my position as well. Even those who are not fans of
football tune in to watch the most viewed sporting event of the year ( The NFL ). Football bring both
passionate fans and average people together in its own unique way.
I realized that baseball serves the same function as football: promoting togetherness through the
entertainment of the sport. So then why is it that the Superbowl is the most watched sporting event of
the year? Why do my friends not get together to watch between four and seven games of the World
Series? And this led me to the question I want to explore: has football taken over as America s favorite
pastime? Certainly, an argument can be made for both sports, but I now want to have a side of the
debate. I want

San Cong Si De epitomises the notion of the traditional female virtues in China at the time, which
Cuiqiao is tied to. In the very male oriented and traditional values of the village, Gu Qing presented
himself as a catalyst for change in the eyes of Hanhan and more particularly, Cui qiao. Both Hanhan
and Cuiqiao are attracted to the promises of the CR for a better life; especially intriguing to Cuiqiao
are the promises of better equality for women that women under the CR can learn to read, write, and
even fight. This is reflected in the scene when Cuiqiao notices Gu Qing s ability to sew his own
clothes. She tells him she is impressed by his ability, to which he replies that women in the South
(Communist camp) cut their hair, and become soldiers to fight against the Japanese, just like men.
Hanhan s character in the film appears to be subtly comical, as well as rather silent and expressionless
throughout the majority of the film. As Hanhan got more acquainted with Gu Qing, he also got more
verbal. This reflects Hanhan s possible oppression of being unable to voice his own opinions, as well
as suggesting his character being overwhelmed by his living condition and social boundaries. He
appears to be a caring brother to Cuiqiao, but is helpless in verbally aiding his sister s pre prescribed
life of forced marriage and duties as a female. Hanhan s character becomes closer to Gu Qing,

Author of A Rose for Emily, William Faulkner s Nobel Prize...
All I have to say about A Rose for Emily is that she was a crazy person! Faulkner is a really worthy
and famous writer that has a lot to say in his writings and I think that he accomplishes that when he
writes. On December 10, he delivered his acceptance speech to the academy in a voice so low and
rapid that few could make out what he was saying, but when his words were published in the
newspaper the following day, it was recognized for its brilliance; in later years, Faulkner s speech
would be lauded as the best speech ever given at a Nobel ceremony. (Padgett) When William Faulkner

There were a lot of different emotions that were represented in this selection, but Faulkner didn t tell
us that the characters were angry he used details to show us people s emotions. Try to be better than
yourself. An artist is a creature driven by demons. He doesn t know why they choose him and he s
usually too busy to wonder why. He is completely amoral in that he will rob, borrow, beg, or steal
from anybody and everybody to get the work done. (Faulkner/Stein) When he talks he uses a lot of
emotion and that shows his style of writing. William Faulkner gave a Nobel Prize Acceptance Speech
and in it he wrote about A Rose for Emily he gives himself challenges when he writes and one of the
challenges is pity and sacrifice which has been the glory of the past. When he writes he is saying that
the people who have had pity thrown upon them and the people who have made their sacrifices are the
only ones who get the glory. The human drama in Faulkner s novels is then built on the model of the
actual, historical drama extending over almost a century and a half. (Faulkner) In A Rose for Emily

Parable Of The Prodigal Son Analysis
Going to great lengths to recover what was lost and then celebrating its recovery seems to be the
common theme of several of the parables. The parable of the prodigal son has three main characters,
the kind and forgiving father who remains the same throughout the parable is a picture of God and
Jesus. The younger son symbolizes sinners and the older brother bring the religious leaders and the
Pharisees. It started off focusing the younger son who got the share of the property. The younger son
insults his father with this request (Carson, NIV Zondervan Study Bible, 2109) because in Jewish
writing explicitly discourage discussing inheritance before the person s death. The father who could
have been angry in his son actions, instead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other half focuses on the older brother s angry reaction to the celebration of the younger son
coming back, which parallels that of the attitude of the religious leaders and Pharisees towards the tax
collector and sinners. They outwardly they lived blameless lives, but inwardly their attitudes were
rotten (Matthew 23:25) Although, it is true that the older son worked hard, obeyed his father, and
brought no disgrace to his family; his attitude towards his brother was out of rage and disgust. Even
refuse to acknowledge the younger son as his brother. The older son focuses on the outward actions,
but not inward attitude. He was to focus on himself and equality, that he fails to recognize his brother
repentance. This passage probably refers to 1 john 2: 9 11. Later the father pointed out he has always
been available to ask but never utilized the blessing at his disposal.
In the parable of the lost sheep and the lost coin, is related to the parable Prodigal Son in the sense of
when the sheep is brought back, the coin is found there will be a celebration, but there would also be
more joy over the repentant sinner than the ninety nine righteous persons who need no repentance. (v.
15:7), like the prodigal son parable.
The underlying theme in all of them is about how we are dependent to God and although God doesn t
need us, He still goes through great

The article, Women and Gender; Reading the Bible through the Eyes of Women, states that it is crucial
that women have the same opportunities and freedom of expression as men in the Church, so that the

Many of those opposed to women playing an active role in the church may also quote 1 Corinthians
14: 34 35: Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in
submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own
husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in a church. In Corinthians, Paul is
writing to the church in Corinth, which was a major cosmopolitan city filled with idolatry and
immorality. In the Corinthian culture, women were not allowed to confront men in public. Some
women thought that their Christian freedom gave them the right to question the men in public
worship, and this caused a division in the church. Women in that day did not receive formal religion
education like men, so women may have been raising questions in the services that could have been
answered at home. Paul was trying to promote unity, not teach about women s roles in the church.
Another verse brought to question is 1 Timothy 2: 11 14, which reads: A woman should learn in
quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she
must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the
woman who was deceived and became a sinner. Again, the author is Paul writing to Timothy and other

African American Rights
The African Americans were rejected basic rights throughout history. Some of the major rights that
they were denied were education and transportation. Many blacks were faced with hardships and
terror throughout their lifetime that we now take for granted in our everyday lives. These simple rights
that they were denied will make you realized how much the world has changed over the past decades.
Education was one of the major rights African Americans were denied throughout history. Linda
Brown and many other African Americans were denied the right to attend any all white schools near
their houses. Instead of attending a school near their houses, they were forced to travel extreme
distances to attend elementary school. While if you were a white child you were granted the right to
travel a small distance to receive schooling. To resolve this problem Linda and her father went to the
supreme court to sue Kansas for having a segregated school system. The NAACP stepped in and ruled
that having segregated schools rejected blacks the right to have equal protection ,which is in the 14th
amendment. The NAACP also argued that the African American children felt as if they were not good
enough or at the same level as others to attend school with the white children. The Supreme Court
decided to rule in favor of the Browns and declared it illegal to have segregation in public schools.
Little Rock Nine was another incident that showed america how education was being denied to

A Summary Of The Sex Pistols
Julien Temple s documentary, The Filth and the Fury portrays the Sex Pistols as a rebellious band who
generated from the hardships the working class faced in England after the Second World War. Such
hardships included jobs being very difficult to get, especially for working class teenagers who were
looking for their first job. (Anarchy, 123) As a result, everyone was on the dole. (Temple Chap 1) The
working class had little hope was believed by many drawing the conclusion that they didn t stand a
chance. Essentually, if you weren t born into riches you were doomed. These economic hardships
resulted in social chaos, rioting and strikes. (CITE) It seemed there was little hope of a future in 1975
if you were young and working class. (Anarachy Pop 124) Therefore, the Sex Pistols formed to
propose an alternative social system (youth domination) and alternative politics that would alter the
world s perception of the working class in both positive and negative lights. (Anarchy pop 124)
The Sex Pistols are a very important starting point in the punk rock revolution and the changed the
movement advocated to happen. Even though they only lasted two years, they never really faded
away. (Dougan, 413) According to Dougan, they are always present, when the words punk rock are

A second behavior that I recognize I could improve is Experiments and takes risks, even when there is
a chance of failure. This is an area that had the largest gap between how I rated myself and the average
of how others rated the frequency in which I engage in this behavior. I have engaged in taking risks
with regard to standing up for what is right, and bringing concerns to the command about the effect
their behavior had on unit morale. Even doing what I am supposed to do in my position as a senior
enlisted leader, I was still put down for doing so. That experimenting and risk taking was not visible to
the unit as a whole, which could explain the gap. Thus, I have backed off on taking those risks in this
area. What I can do in the future is ensure that I pass the word to the crew that I am looking out for
morale and unit cohesion, and how I am doing that to make it more visible. I will seek out new ideas
and approaches to our work and make an effort to implement them to see what worked out and what

Discounted Ammo
Should you Stock Up on Discounted Ammo?
When it comes to the idea of stocking up on ammo, it is generally a good idea to buy ammo if it is
available for a discounted price. There are many reasons one may want to stockpile ammo but we ll
examine three particular reasons that every conscientious gun owner should consider as to why they
should stock up on ammo.
1. Training
Anyone who has ever regularly shot a weapon knows that you re only good with a weapon that you
regularly train with. In order to regularly train with a weapon, you will need an ample supply of
ammunition to shoot through that weapon. This means that you will need to have a readily available
source of ammo for your gun. Because it can be particularly difficult to come across certain types of
ammo, like 22 long rifle, it just makes good sense to buy a significant amount of ammo and stockpile
it when you find ammunition for a discounted price. If you do this, then you can rest assured that you
will always have ammo available for training when you need to practice shooting your gun. ... Show

Lately, prices seem to always be going up
Over the last few years, ammo prices have increased as much as 200% for some types of ammo.
Because it seems that prices seem to keep going up in recent times, it is a good idea to buy any
ammunition that you can find at a discounted price. If you can find ammo at a discounted price, then
you will be able to save a good amount of money and be able to beat the system of ever rising prices.
Simply put, it never hurts to take advantage of a bargain.
3. Ammo can always be

The Nazi Party In Munich
Composition. The Nazi Party had roughly two thousand men situated throughout Munich in several of
the larger beer halls. The State police charged with upholding the peace in Munich had patrols
throughout the city. There is no reporting of any military operations taking place during this time. In
the final exchange Kershaw stated that the police and local military totaled one hundred thirty. Von
Lopp states that the force numbered closer to three hundred and fifty. Regardless of which author was
correct the Nazis had the advantage of numbers (Kershaw 2008) (Von Lopp 2011).

Hitler surrounded the beer hall with six hundred armed Nazi Stoßtrupp (SA). other members of the SA
moved to occupy the army headquarters (Moorhouse Ed 2004). Hitler and twenty of the SA entered
the hall during the meeting; Hitler fired a shot into the ceiling and announced that the national
revolution had begun. Hitler moved Kahr, Seisser and Lossow to a back room and demanded that they
support him. Kahr refused to support Hitler. Hitler was agitated and left the three with two guards and
spoke to the crowd in the main hall. Within a few minutes of speaking to the crowd, Hitler gained their
support. With the arrival of General Ludendorff, Hitler finally talked the three into pledging their
support to the putsch (Dornberg 1982) (Brendon 2000). Once an agreement was reached the group
returned to main hall and made several speeches. The crowd was allowed to leave the hall. Hitler then
left the hall on errands, while Ludendorff allowed the three leaders to leave the hall in order to begin
work on their positions in the newly formed government (Kershaw 2008). Upon leaving the hall, the
three leaders denounced the attempted overthrow and ordered police and military units to suppress the
putsch (USHMM 2015

Intentional Animal Abuse
Animal Abuse The shocking number of animal abuse cases reported every day is nothing compared to
most of those which are never reported. Cases of animal abuse are not compiled by the state or federal
agencies such as violent crimes against humans. This makes it much more difficult to calculate how
much it actually happens. Information available to us can help us better understand and prevent cases
of abuse against animals. They re all special and talented in their own way. Animals should not be
shown for games or entertainment. It can happen anywhere. Animal abuse is common in both rural
and urban areas. Intentional animal cruelty is strongly correlated with violent crimes against people.
Hoarding behavior is harmful to animals, for if someone suffers from this disorder, it may be
dangerous for the animal/s because they may house more than they can adequately care for. Surveys
suggest that intentional animal abuse is mostly by men predominantly under 30, ... Show more content

The most often reported cases of animal abuse happen to be to dogs, cats, horses and livestock. Back
in 2011, 1,423 cases of animal abuse were reported, including: 70.1% involving dogs, 20.9%
involving cats, and 24.1% involving other animals. Undercover investigations reveal that abuse most
often happens in the factory farm industry. Due to the weak protections afforded to livestock under
state cruelty laws, only the most shocking cases are reported. Few of these cases are ever prosecuted.
Those who abuse animals are most likely to abuse humans too. Data reveals that a large number of
animals are targeted by those who abuse others around them, such as their children or spouse. 71% of
domestic violence victims claim that their abuser also targeted pets. Families under investigation for
child abuse also reveal pet abuse had occurred in 88% of these homes. Many victims stay in their
abusive households out of fear for their animal s

  • 2. The Faerie Queen By Edmund Spencer The Faerie Queen by Edmund Spencer uses erotic and mystifying dreams to provide insight into the representation of gender relations; it is through women that the emotional state of desire as well as terror is experienced. Throughout the epic women dominate the visions experienced by the knights which sometimes makes the dreams more complex and difficult to interpret. Interestingly, the male counterparts within the context of the epic explore controversial implications of their virtues as men, because of how they conceptualize women within their dreams. In the first canto of the epic the Red Cross Knight conceptualizes Una in his dream as a deceiver. However, it is Archimago that is responsible for Kinght s sense of deception as he sends an emissary to the underworld to acquire a fit false dreame (I.i.43.9) with the sole purpose of taunting the Red Cross Knight. Archimago wants to take advantage of his thoughts and feeling towards Una. A dream of this nature would corrupt his chivalric code, and strip him down to a mere man his manly hart did melt away (I.i.47.5), left Red Cross bathed in wanton blis and wicked ioy (I.i.47.6), then prompted him to fly into a rage against the innocent Una. The Red Cross Knight is tormented by the dream of Una , and yet is plagued once again by Archimago who sends a springht, that feigning dreame, and that faire forged Spright (I.ii.2.2) to give the knight with a vision of Una engaging sexually in an illicit manner. Not surprisingly, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Thomas Hardy s The Darkling Thrush And The Lost Baby Poem Imagine a time when you or someone you know has gone through loss; how alone that feeling was. Yet, the hardship it brought did not last forever. There was always something that made life worth living again. Life is filled with sad endings and bright, new beginnings. It is an inevitable cycle that everyone can relate to on some level. Whether it is the ending of a life or the end of a century, both Lucille Clifton and Thomas Hardy prove that endings can be difficult, yet there is some form of hope within each of their poems. Hardy s The Darkling Thrush and Clifton s The Lost Baby Poem have different styles due to the poets vastly different backgrounds, yet both poems posses a similar somber tone throughout, with a glimmer of positivity by the end of each. Lucille Clifton and Thomas Hardy have vastly different writing styles, which could be attributed to their dissimilar backgrounds. Clifton, a 20th century African American poet, wrote short yet powerful poetry, and her use of lowercase type in a large portion of her works makes her tone come off as understanding to the average reader. Another interpretation of her use of lowercase type in The Lost Baby Poem specifically, is the idea that Clifton was ashamed of herself and therefor did not feel worthy of writing in a distinguished manner. My interpretation of her lack of punctuation makes her tone seem dismal and depressed. Hardy, who comes from English descent, lived through lots of turmoil, including WWI, and his ... • 4. Short Stories The themes of short stories are often relevant to real life? To what extent do you agree with this view? In the short stories Miss Brill and Frau Brechenmacher attends a wedding written by Katherine Mansfield, the themes which are relevant to real life in Miss Brill are isolation and appearance versus reality. Likewise Frau Brechenmacher suffers through isolation throughout the story and also male dominance is one of the major themes that are highlighted in the story. These themes are relevant to real life as women are likely to suffer more in their life than men. In Miss Brill one of the central theme is isolation as Miss Brill is mentally isolated this is portrayed when she takes her fur out of the box which is symbolic of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through her actions which gives us an insight that she is emotionally isolated from her husband. Frau brechenmacher is also socially isolated, this is portrayed when one of the lady at wedding mentions my dear you skirt is open at the back...we could not help laughing as you walked up the room with white tape of your petticoat showing . Also highlighted when all laughing at her because they were so much stronger then she was . This quote refers to the point that she is emotionally weak, as she asserts her humanity through her fear. As the women laugh at her, Frau brechenmacher feels humiliated and betrayed by someone she expected to be united with. This theme is relevant to real life as in both the short story women are likely to struggle more than men. Another theme which is highlighted in the story is male dominance which is portrayed when Frau Brechenmacher addresses Herr Brechnmacher by the father . This represents Herr Brechenmacher s dominating character towards Frau Brechenmacher. This also shows a weak bond of understanding between Herr and Frau Brechenmacher. Reason for Frau Brechenmacher showing her submissive behaviour towards her husband as mentioned girls have a lot to learn . This highlights that she has learnt her lesson too well and passes the message onto the reader to give us an insight of role of women in early 19th century. She is used for sexual purposes as depicted in story she puts her arms across her face ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Backyard Of My Father s Rickety House Essay There used to be a small town in the backyard of my father s rickety house. It wasn t constructed by carpenters or designed by architects. This primitive village was built by children with overactive imaginations and an abundance of time. In fact, I was the one, who came up with the idea to build it. During the summer of 2010, my two stepsisters and I had exhausted all of our summer activity options. Everyday, we were in the pool or riding our shiny bikes up and down the gravel driveway. Even though I only visited my father for a week at most, I couldn t help, but feel like these activities were becoming repetitive and unenjoyable. Commonly, this would cause anyone to search for something else more interesting to spend their time on. I found that something to be an untouched wooded area on the side of my father s property. No one usually went near there due to the glass and the creatures living under the leaves. Whenever it would rain, snakes would emerge from those woods to play in the puddles near our house. Needless to say, it took a few years for a group of girls to work up the courage to explore the snake s natural habitat. Quine And Carnap Debate The end of Metaphysics Quine and Carnap 9 6 2015 Klassieke Teksten: Quine Ischa Koekman S1542540 Introduction This essay will discuss the status or worth of metaphysics in light of the theories of Willard Orval Quine and Rudolf Carnap. Both 20th century philosophers rejected metaphysics as a legitimate branch of philosophy or science for their own reasons. Despite their agreement on this issue they disagreed on many related topics. To clearly understand either philosophers views on the worth of metaphysics one needs to look into the long lasting dispute between these thinkers regarding these topics. The backbone of this essay then will be an overview of what is known as the Quine Carnap debate. We will discuss the relevant elements ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These truths are of the a priori kind. Theory internal question are answered either by analyticity alone, or a combination between empiricism and analyticity. Either way these questions depend on something self sustaining to build on. Analytic statements, understood as statements true by virtue of their own meaning, can supply this type of foundation. Saying analytic statements are true by virtue of their own meaning is really to say they are true by virtue of the linguistic structure typical for our adopted framework. Carnap, by this notion of analyticity, does not need justification for truth statements from reality. Analytic statements are true by virtue of their semantic expressions, which is our construct. Carnap s analytic statements are distinctly different from his synthetic. Synthetic statements need, in part, evidence and justification from outside. It is not in their definition. Quine s arguments for the non existence of the analytic synthetic distinction is a problem because now that they are not opposite, isolated concepts they can be seen as two side of the same continuum. Statements are no longer either synthetic or analytic but analytic/synthetic in varying degrees. What this means is that analytic statements (if this is the proper name) are (in varying degrees) in need of justification as well. What this means for Carnap is that his a priori type justifications are no longer as certain or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first famous DNA forensic analysis took place in 1986 when the British police used DNA fingerprinting to solve a case involving the rape and murder of two girls. Today, police departments work with the Combined DNA Index System of the FBI, which has computerized records of the DNA of individuals who have been convicted in the past. Recently, federal laws have been passed to include preconviction DNA in their databases. In 2013, the Supreme Court ruled in the case of Maryland v. However, once the story is more thoroughly analyzed, many alternative meanings are uncovered. The story is all about sacrifice. The woman is so old and her body is shutting down, however she walks all that way just to get the medicine for her grandson. She will not give up on her grandson and is determined to keep going for him and to keep him as healthy as possible. What I thought to be interesting is that she never asked anybody in town to bring the medicine to her or to come check on her every day to (not to be morbid) make sure the grandmother is still alive! The race of the nurses is never specified, but perhaps they are white, and if they are white it makes perfect sense why she wouldn t want to ask for help. Every year, before my grandfather passed away, my mom would make lasagna for my brother, father, grandfather, and I. When I was in elementary school my grandfather and grandmother got divorced, they couldn t even be in the same room together. Therefore, in order to be able to spend time with both of them during the holidays we would need to have two of each holiday. Christmas Eve is when we would have Christmas with my grandfather. People often said that wherever my grandfather went he always made new friends or enemies. • 13. The Three Alones Of Reformation Theology Question 1. What are the three alones of Reformation theology? How do they relate to one another in Luther s theology? How does Luther s use of them respond to the dominant question of the sixteenth century: How can I know that God is favorable to me? The three alones in Reformation theology refer to that which is needed for justification or salvation favorableness in the sight of God. Luther describes them as 1) Christ, or the Gospel of Christ (Scripture), alone, 2) faith alone, and 3) grace alone. Each of these three are essentially united in Luther s theology. Christ is the most important factor in the three, because without Christ and without His Word, as recorded in Scripture, one cannot begin to have faith or hope to receive the necessary grace that comes with faith and guarantees salvation. As Luther states, One thing, and one alone, is necessary for life, justification, and Christian liberty; and that is the most holy word of God, the Gospel of Christ (Luther, p. 9). Through Christ and the preaching of His Word comes belief. If one believes, that is has faith, which implies trust and commitment, then one is justified and has found favor in God s eyes: For faith alone, and the efficacious use of the word of God, bring salvation (Luther, p. 9) Luther downplays the importance of works in the justification of man and instead emphasizes the place of faith and the grace that goes with it: For the word of God cannot be received and honoured by any works, ... The first part is the personal consciousness, this can contain personal information along with repressed or forgotten past experiences. One of the major parts of the personal consciousness is the complex. This notion is still referred to in the mainstream public and was a topic for many self help books. In America today, Americans have progressively paid more attention to the schooling process, trying harder to get the best education possible for their children. Catholic schools and Public schools both have advantages and disadvantages. Today, parents choose whether they would like to have their child in a public or private school. Both schools provide education and opportunities for students, but the decision of where to go is based on preferences of the parents. Perhaps the most obvious is Stevens choice of voice across the set; some are presented semi formally; e.g. Of Heaven Considered as a Tomb . Others are written more as vignettes, e.g. Cy Est Pourtraicte, Madame Ste Ursule, et Les Unze Mille Vierges. The main identify feature of voice is that Stevens avoids a first person, which allows him some freedom from projecting an identity and allows him to be more analytical. A note: Sunday Morning is far and away Stevens best poem in Harmonium, and may be the best he ever wrote, but it also does not fit with the overall style of the collection and as such I will pretend that it does not exist. Additionally, its length and copious allusions make it unsuitable for a fair analysis at present. Instead, The Snow Man and other vignettes match much more neatly here. The Snow Man is one of the most easily understood poems in Harmonium. It is also definitively human and personal, drawing on experiences shared by Americans at large, but examined in a way removed from normal December festivities. Stevens describes what he means to have a mind of winter : though a normal observer would observe the spruces, rough in the distant glitter and the junipers shagged with ice as simply part of a scene, Stevens separates the scenery from the observer and the reader in the final stanza (Stevens 9 10). Lord Of The Flies Critical Lens Analysis Being Consumed by Fear Leads to Regrettable Decisions When people are little kids, it is easy for them to feed into their fears and become dependent on adults for comfort. As adults, people usually conceal their fears and try to keep a clear mindset so unnecessary issues do not occur. In Stephen King s adaptation The Mist and William Golding s novel The Lord of The Flies, adults and children are pulled into their fears and eventually feed into them. In The Lord of The Flies, a plane full of British boys crashes on a deserted island with no adults in sight. The boys slowly turn on each other and, due to a mysterious beast, they are consumed by fear and behave irrationally. In The Mist, a fog rolls through town with unknown creatures lurking inside and people are terrified. The town s citizens are trapped inside a grocery store, and when they want to go out, death has it s doors open and waiting. Slowly, the people inside start to lose human decency toward each other and chaos breaks out. In both of these stories, people are controlled by fear, have no concept of law and order, and turn a blind eye to logic. When people feel safe and confident, they have a level mind set. Compare And Contrast Between Pornography And Art We can assume that most things can be separated into right or wrong, black or white but in truth, where are we to determine an actual line when the fields can overlap even in the slightest? In the case of the border between Pornography and Art, at a surface and mundane level, we are able to distinguish one extreme from the other immediately. In this essay I intend to analyse each point of the spectrum from art to erotic art to pornography. The research question I am going to be exploring is What social tools are applied to images in order to categorize them as being either erotic, pornographic or merely acceptable art, and can there be a single true interpretation? Important to take into account with the definitions of pornography and eroticsm, is that an extensionally adequate definition should exclude scientific behavioral studies or medical illustrations of sexual activity, which tend to be neither erotic nor artistic in nature showing that there are several ways to depict a sexual encounter, without the sexuality being part of the depiction. Erotic Art, furthering this point, when defined by Peter Webb in his book The Erotic Arts is art on a sexual theme related specifically to emotions rather than merely actions, and sexual depictions which are justifiable on aesthetic grounds . I feel this definition is ample in explaining that there must be an underlying sexual theme shown in the art works, but that the main purpose of Art is to be about the aesthetics of the object and of the emotions of the characters instead of causing the pornographic purpose of only ... • 29. Persuasive Essay On Sports Vs Sports With the NFL season coming to a close and the Superbowl a few days away, my friends began planning on getting together for a Superbowl party. Awesome! I thought to myself and offered to bring food to the party. I went to the grocery store to get food and saw that the store changed its theme to be Super Bowl themed. I thought this was interesting to see that a little grocery store in the State College area would change the layout and decorations of the store to appeal to the fans of the game. As I noticed this, I started thinking about football and the impact it has on regular American citizens nowadays. No other event this year would make my friends and me get together and hang out to watch TV together. I assumed that many people are in my position as well. Even those who are not fans of football tune in to watch the most viewed sporting event of the year ( The NFL ). Football bring both passionate fans and average people together in its own unique way. I realized that baseball serves the same function as football: promoting togetherness through the entertainment of the sport. So then why is it that the Superbowl is the most watched sporting event of the year? Why do my friends not get together to watch between four and seven games of the World Series? And this led me to the question I want to explore: has football taken over as America s favorite pastime? Certainly, an argument can be made for both sports, but I now want to have a side of the debate. I want ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chen Kaige and Zhang Yimou s Yellow Earth is a meaningful and controversial film that highlights the young and old, realist and idealist, as well as the ideal utopia and bounded bureaucracies touching on the notion of fate. Set in early 1939 in China, Yellow Earth follows the story of Gu Qing, a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) soldier sent out among the peasants in Northern Shaanxi to collect folksongs, to which the Communists intend to rewrite new lyrics to help inspire soldiers and peasant followers to fight the Japanese invasion and work towards the revolution. San Cong Si De epitomises the notion of the traditional female virtues in China at the time, which Cuiqiao is tied to. In the very male oriented and traditional values of the village, Gu Qing presented himself as a catalyst for change in the eyes of Hanhan and more particularly, Cui qiao. Both Hanhan and Cuiqiao are attracted to the promises of the CR for a better life; especially intriguing to Cuiqiao are the promises of better equality for women that women under the CR can learn to read, write, and even fight. This is reflected in the scene when Cuiqiao notices Gu Qing s ability to sew his own clothes. She tells him she is impressed by his ability, to which he replies that women in the South (Communist camp) cut their hair, and become soldiers to fight against the Japanese, just like men. Hanhan s character in the film appears to be subtly comical, as well as rather silent and expressionless throughout the majority of the film. As Hanhan got more acquainted with Gu Qing, he also got more verbal. This reflects Hanhan s possible oppression of being unable to voice his own opinions, as well as suggesting his character being overwhelmed by his living condition and social boundaries. Faulkner is a really worthy and famous writer that has a lot to say in his writings and I think that he accomplishes that when he writes. On December 10, he delivered his acceptance speech to the academy in a voice so low and rapid that few could make out what he was saying, but when his words were published in the newspaper the following day, it was recognized for its brilliance; in later years, Faulkner s speech would be lauded as the best speech ever given at a Nobel ceremony. The parable of the prodigal son has three main characters, the kind and forgiving father who remains the same throughout the parable is a picture of God and Jesus. The younger son symbolizes sinners and the older brother bring the religious leaders and the Pharisees. It started off focusing the younger son who got the share of the property. Even refuse to acknowledge the younger son as his brother. The older son focuses on the outward actions, but not inward attitude. He was to focus on himself and equality, that he fails to recognize his brother repentance. This passage probably refers to 1 john 2: 9 11. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in a church. In Corinthians, Paul is writing to the church in Corinth, which was a major cosmopolitan city filled with idolatry and immorality. In the Corinthian culture, women were not allowed to confront men in public. Some women thought that their Christian freedom gave them the right to question the men in public worship, and this caused a division in the church. Women in that day did not receive formal religion education like men, so women may have been raising questions in the services that could have been answered at home. Paul was trying to promote unity, not teach about women s roles in the church. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
