Business Collaboration, Rather Than Market Competition
IS BUSINESS COLLABORATION, RATHER THAN MARKET COMPETITION, BECOME
THE KEY TO SUCCESS? INTRODUCTION Today s fast growing market requires mutually
beneficial partnerships to gain creativity, experience, processes, technology and resources with
both right and left brain thinkers, that helps in achieving extraordinary achievements in lesser
time which technically framed as collaboration. By making partnerships or collaborating
externally, companies are able to innovate and get develop much more quickly and even create
solutions of too many problems with an effective and efficient way. (Mudge, et.al 2014)
Competition can be define as it is the rivalry among sellers who are trying to achieve same goals
such as increasing profits, market share and sales volume by varying price, product, distribution
and promotion (Wikipedia, 2014). In market competition, innovative business firms are ever
conscious of the competitors and have a constant look on differentiating their brand and product by
many different innovations and developments (Ukessays.com, 2014). With a happier working
team, collaboration represents an educated one. This is because it naturally inspires a sense of
community within an organization and employees feel almost like they are a part of a family.
Further, it also allows employees to learn from each other (Elcomcms.com, 2014). The worldwide
internet has been a fantastic enabler for greater collaborations. Social media channels allow
individuals to connect, discuss,

To Obey or Disobey
Obedience is an age old expectation that rulers, priests, and government officials have required
for years from their subjects. Most of the time individuals follow their leaders without question.
This is the case because the population from which obedience is required believes that they
continue to have a choice. When, for whatever reason this belief is lost, some individuals will
begin to exhibit an increasing disobedience to the requirement. This often increases to the point of
violence or, the case of a country, war. While there are all types of disobedience, this paper will
discuss civil disobedience and the social pressure often associated with it.
A good example of this type of cycle can be found in the historical background ... Show more

Universities over time have done a lot of research trying to understand why people obey and
disobey. Most people believe they are good and trustworthy. These individuals feel no matter
what occurs they will always try to do the right thing in their day to day life. In The Perils of
Obedience, Milgram tells of a woman that the last shock she administered to the learner was
extremely painful and reiterates that she did not want to be responsible for any harm to him .
(695). Despite her desires she still administered the shock, thus being obedient to the person in
charge and not to what she believed. Individuals who still believe in the concept called into
question by the disobedient group, often feel intense pressure to maintain loyalty to the old ruling
entity. In Doris Lessing s article, Group Minds, she states But the majority will continue to insist
speaking metaphorically that black is white, and after a period of exasperation, irritation, even
anger, certainly incomprehension, the minority will fall into line .(724) Pressure to conform can
manifest itself in another way as well.. Individuals may feel compelled to follow the ideas and
rules of someone else and follow that group of people no matter what path it my lead them down
or where those ideas and rules may take them. Social pressure comes from everywhere; family,
church, friends, jobs, co workers, and etc.. During the

Pros And Cons Of The Dare Program
Why Is the Dare program the one to blame for kids abusing illegal substances? The Dare
program is said to do good but the harsh reality it s that dare program does not help prevent drug
use rather than doing that it does the opposite. I believe the dare program is unaffected and
outdated and is possible danger towards kids. Dare instead of helping it causes more harm. The
dare program is ineffective. The good it does is outshine by the bad long term.
Dare can do more harm than good. It does more harm due to the Dare program introducing then to
this new environment they are not familiar While, Since kids are curious showing kids something
new they might be curious to try it. For example when a new trend is introduced kids are quick to

However, even though we know the Dare program does not work we still let it continue so we
only have ourself to blame for that.
However, the dare program has done some good though even though it has is cons the pros
overshadow them. For example what matters, in the end, is the people it had saved from a life of
hell due to drugs. A study conducted shows the 32% of kids the participated said they stop using
illegal substances.
While that was all well and good a 40% said they reduced the amount they took of the substance
for the time being but went back to their old routine in less than a year. While the dare program
might prove to be a little useful at first sight long term it has no effect. the study shows the Kids

Malcolm Gladwell Plagiarism
Malcolm Gladwell wrote Sometheing Borrowed: Should a charge of plagiarism ruin your life in
What the Dog Saw: And other Adventures. Gladwell s main point in his story is that plagiarism is
unfair and dishonest. He then goes on to discuss the many facets of plagiarism; like melodies in
songs and picnic tables. Gladwell wants people who are interested in the arts and humanities to
read this because he pulls pieces of music, art and literature to use as examples since plagiarism is
a key component in these areas. This is because people change up others work and make it into
their own for the world to develop and grow. Malcolm Gladwell explains that when an idea goes
public, people are allowed to copy it and make others work into a grander cause. Overall I think
Gladwell was trying to focus on why ideas are plagiarized and their reasoning behind it, rather than
just focusing on the fact that it was plagiarized. Gladwell starts off by introducing a psychiatrist by
the name of Dorothy
Lewis whose work and life had been amalgamated in a Broadway play called
Frozen. Lewis s friends had continuously nagged her to go see the play, after a short few
months she received a phone call from the theatre production of frozen asking her if she would
do a talk back after the play. Before she accepted to do it she asked if she could read the script.
After reading it she realized that Bryon Lavery not only took her work but violated her as well. At
the time Lavery

Ultrasounds sometimes are used to detect and treat soft tissue injuries
Most ultrasounds are done using a transducer on the surface of the skin. Sometimes, however,
doctors and technicians can get a better diagnostic image by inserting a special transducer into one
of the body s natural openings
An abdominal ultrasound is a useful way of examining internal organs. Because ultrasound images
are captured in real time, they can show movement of internal tissues and organs and enable
physicians to see blood flow. This can help to diagnose a variety of conditions and to assess
damage caused by illness.
If you are having your liver, gallbladder, spleen, and pancreas checked, you may need to eat a fat
free meal on the evening before the test. Then you may need to avoid eating for 8 to 12 hours

For a test of the kidneys, you may be asked to drink 4 to 6 glasses of liquid about an hour before
the test. This is to fill your bladder. You may need to avoid eating for 8 to 12 hours before the test

Does the Video Overlook the Danger of Exploiting Women?
No, the video does not seem to ignore the dangers of exploiting women. In fact, it is trying to
sensitize the public on the factors that lead to teen prostitution. Although money may act as a
motivating factor, some of these girls are looking for affection and attention from the old men that
they sleep with. One of the interviewees mentions that as a single mom, her daughter constantly
had the urge of having a dad which only got worse after he started dating again (Portland s Teen

It is important that those young children have time to enjoy their youth without engaging in adult
affairs. There should instead be strict rules governing the industry, and the minimum age for the
strippers should also be increased, for instance to about 25years. Legalizing prostitution in Las
Vegas also illustrates that states do no need to be governed by any morality and everyone should
protect themselves from the harsh realities of the world. The teenagers in other states may also feel
left out, and they may choose to experiment with sex in Las Vegas.

Intersectionality And Intersecting Identities
Intersectionality is a concept that is utilized to better understand the dynamics of oppression and
privilege in regards to an individual s identity. Intersectionality is how different identities align and
cross (intersect) to create more identities and experiences. For example, a black woman who is
homosexual must deal with the prejudices and challenge that both of those identities present.
Recognizing and understanding intersectionality is vital for facilitating a beneficial intercultural
dialogue. A beneficial intercultural dialogue can garber a more advanced and open sense of
empathy and knowledge for intersecting identities that an individual may not have had before. This
is due to their position in relation to other individual s identities, positionality, which plays a
significant role in intersectionality.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is positionality in regards to intersectionality. Positionality is totally relational; we can observe
our positions in relation to ours and other intersecting identities. An individual s positionality
influences how they perceive and make sense of the world; a standpoint. Individuals who are lower
on the positional hierarchy usually have a better view on the variety of standpoints beyond their
own, as they need these understandings to survive. I, myself, have a variety of identities that
intersect in many different ways. I identify most strongly with my identities in respect to my age,
race, class, and gender. These four identities are the identities that have contributed the most into
making me the person I am today. These intersecting identities have been both advantageous and
disadvantageous to me in my life. Understanding how these four identities intersect, has helped

Year Round Education Essay
Year Round Education
For more than twenty years the educational and economic benefits of year round schooling have
been debated in the United States. Experts agree that year round schooling may not be the answer
to the problems of all school districts. However in more than 205 districts nation wide, problems
have been resolved by year round schooling. First I need to explain that this is different from
extending the school year; on a year round schedule, students attend school the same number of
days 180 as students on the traditional nine month calendar. The difference is that year round
education (YRE) students have several short vacations rather than one three month summer break.
Most year round schools operate on a multi track ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These countries typically require longer instructional days and more of them than most
American schools, where the eight hour per day, 180 day a year model is standard
(Worsnop,96). This type of schooling may be the answer to the decades old concern that
American students are being ill prepared to compete with their counterparts overseas. By the most
objective measure, test scores, year round education seems to be working. For example, before
switching to its new schedule, Socorro schools had some of the lowest test scores in the country.
Now Socorro students outscore the state average on the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills
(Blackman,99) For many school administrators, the most persuasive argument in favor of YRE is
that it offers a cost effective way of relieving classroom overcrowding. Instead of renting
commercial space, portable classrooms or constructing new schools administrators can enlarge the
capacity of existing facilities by converting them to year round operation. Implementing a year
round calendar extends the capacity of a school by 33 percent, according to NAYRE (National
Association for Year Round Education.) The Oxnard Elementary School District is considered the
pioneer of year round educational systems. Oxnard first reorganized their schedule in 1976. The
driving forces behind the updated schedule were the increasing number of students in the buildings
and lack of funds. Oxnard has had success with this arrangement. Building

France s Bill Of Rights Document Analysis
Freedom and justice are what England s Bill of Rights, France s Declaration of Rights for Men,
and America s Bill of Right all have in common. All three countries did not like the rules or
leaders at the time thus, revolutions against them occurred. Then, these documents were created
because people wanted change. The first of the three is England s Bill of Rights which inspired
America s Declaration of Independence, which lead to France s Declaration of Right for Men.
Furthermore, I will explain the contents of each document, how all three documents relate to one
another, and which of these I would prefer to live under. The Bill of Rights of England was passed

Benefits And Treatment Of Dissociative Identity Disorder
Diazepam Paired With Psychotherapy Dissociative Identity Disorder is a disorder that is hardly
talked about, however has extreme effects on patients that suffer with it. However, this topic is
important because it can lead to finding treatments that may be more effective for patients with
DID. Past studies have shown that the main treatment for Dissociative Identity Disorderusually
involves therapy. The most popular types of therapy are psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, and family
therapy. Treatment for DID has a specific purpose which is to unite an individual with their
personalities, and form a functional identity (Pais, 2009). Additionally, a strength of past studies is
that they usually do a follow up on patients. Another strength is that the participants are usually all
of different ages. One limitation is that there is never enough participants for research, another
limitation is that there aren t many treatment options to try on patients. Furthermore, is diazepam
useful when paired with psychotherapy? Moreover, my study will be unique because there has
only been one case that tried lorazepam, which is a similar drug to diazepam, and it proved to be
successful (Mushtaq, Shoib, Arif, Shah, Mushtaq, 2014). Also, my study will have more than one
patient, to have more accurate results. Finally, diazepam and psychotherapy could be a good
treatment for DID. Method

Impact Of The Smartphone On Students, Teachers, And...
The relatively recent escalation of smartphones across the world has brought about many
circumstances that no one had imagined prior to the 21st century. One potentially major impact of
the smartphone is its effect on students, teachers, and educational facilities. In this paper, I will
explore the impact of the rhetorical devices used by the authors of two scholarly articles from
different academic fields. Using Smartphones to Supplement Classroom Reading by Karen Bromley
is written in the applied field of education; and, You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make
him learn: Smartphone use in higher educationby Chad C. Tossell and his team of authors
originates from the academic field of the social sciences. Although Bromley and Tossell are both
writing on the impact of smartphones in education, their differing uses of rhetorical devices allows
Tossell to effectively reach a scholarly audience, while Bromley s article is appealing to the general
public.
1. Overview of Each Article
In Using Smartphones to Supplement Classroom Reading, Karen Bromley, a professor at
Binghamton University in New York, investigates a how the use of a smartphone to read affects
herself and how it might impact students. She emphasizes the aspect of using a smartphone to
perform minor research tasks while reading, such as searching for definitions of words or additional
context. Continuing to examine the exploratory side of smartphones, Bromley suggests that having

Given the rate at which smartphone are penetrating the market and component prices are declining
by 2015 there will be, at least, 2 billion smart mobile devices in use globally. (Kenney, 2011).
Smartphone sales will be driven by two main factors, BI Intelligence says:
Replacement of nearly 5 billion dumb phones with smartphones (smartphones currently make up
only 10% of handsets worldwide)
Price declines. The average price of a smartphone will drop from about $315 last year to $200 over
the next several years
This will obviously have a huge impact on the mobile Internet economy, which is already exploding
from the growth of smartphone penetration in the past few years.
Some other highlights from the report:
Smartphone unit sales will grow at nearly a 30% compound annual growth rate over the next five
years
Smartphones will represent about two thirds of all mobile phone purchases by 2016,
Smartphones will be a $320 billion market by 2016.

also was also somewhat popular but having limitations in terms of usability and software, deprived

Importance Of Servant Leadership And Indian Culture
Servant Leadership In Indian Culture and Hindu Religion
Although servant leadership is often associated with Christianity and assessed in a Biblical context,
it is important to recognize that servant leadership is present in other religions and cultural contexts
as well. Servant leadership has the capability to exist in any environment where there is humility,
selflessness, and a commitment to exhorting and empowering one s followers. Historically, the best
servant leaders have come from a variety of eras, cultures, ethnicities, and religions, proving that
servant leadership transcends all demographic and religious boundaries and is founded on a core
set of beliefs and values. This paper will aim to discuss servant leadership in the context of the
Hindu religion and the culture of India, proving that servant leadership promotes unifying people
rather than dividing by religious and cultural differences.
Servant Leadership in the Indian Culture
Culture is to a human collectivity is what personality is to an individual (Hofstede, 2001). By this,
Hofstede means that culture aids in identifying a people group in the same way that a personality
identifies a person. This means that in the same way that people with differing personalities but
similar values can be servant leaders, unique cultures with the same foundational emphasis on
service and leadership can practice servant leadership. This is important to remember when
evaluating servant leadership in various cultural

display was Colorstorm If not now... when? by the artist Stacey Torres. The gallery featured
upward towards 50 original paintings. Some of the artworks in this exhibit include: The

is an African American folk artist, writer, and dancer. She was born in Jamaica, New York and
currently lives in New Castile, Indiana. The primary focus of her work is women in natural
settings. Her paintings include brilliant colors using different media and include watercolor, oil
pastels, and acrylics. (2) The piece I chose to review was titled Journey. This was a large (24 x 36)

It is a cheerful, acrylic painting created using bold and bright colors made to contrast one
another. Torres used unity and variety with a selection of lines, shapes, and colors. When you
first view the painting, you will notice the directional forces that cause your eyes to view the
painting in a particular order. Staring at the front center, the eyes will follow the path of lines
that lead your eyes over the entire painting. When you take a closer look at the piece, you will
begin to notice a repetition of certain colors and shapes. The painting is also asymmetrically
balanced. In my opinion, the most important Principle of Design used for this piece is contrast.
The figure of the woman in the front is significantly contrasted from the rest of the painting, and
she is made to be the focal point. This piece is representational artwork. It depicts the appearance
of a woman and includes subjects from the everyday world.

How did my teaching/learning activities help students reach the goals for today?
My goal for my CGI lesson was to have students solve a word problem using anyone of their
math strategies that they have been working on with the master teacher. However, I also wanted
them to add an equation sentence to their strategy because that is what they will be doing in 1st
grade rather than just drawing pictures. When I was grading their work, I can say 81% of the class
met the objective for the day, which means only 5 students got the problem wrong and 22 students

Auto Insurance Myths
Ten Auto Insurance Myths Debunked
Myth 1: I ll save money by going for the cheapest quote available.
Fact: When you buy auto insurance, you re basically purchasing peace of mind and the
knowledge that an accident won t mean the end of your savings and a lifetime of debt. However
to ensure that you will be covered for any losses or damages, it s better to opt for quotes from a
company that has a reputation to maintain and the means to pay out when you make a claim.
Opting for an obscure, fly by night company just because it gave you the cheapest quote is a bad
idea. If it rejects your claim, or does not have the funds to pay out, you could potentially lose a
fortune.

Myth 8:Younger drivers always pay obscene interest rates.
Fact: Not necessarily. Many car insurance companies offer young drivers discounts for completing
defensive driver s credits. Others give students below the age of 25 discounts for exceptional
academic performance. Students can also get discounts by installing air bags and anti theft devices.
By availing of these discounts, a student driver can definitely enjoy affordable insurance rates.
Myth 9:Car insurance covers the costs of items stolen from my car.
Fact: Generally, personal possessions left in the car are not covered by car insurance. Some home
insurance policies cover such items, but that varies from item to item and policy to policy.
Myth 10: If I get into an accident and the other party is at fault but has no insurance, my insurance
company will pay for my damages.
Fact: Not necessarily. If you have sufficient Collision coverage or Uninsured Motorists coverage
then the damages to your car and person will be covered. But you re on your own if you don t.
This is why some states require that all drivers carry Uninsured Motorist s

Healthcare Technology of Today
Introduction
Healthcare technology has come a long way. I remember the days of putting my fingers on
patients wrists to take their pulse and looking up at the clock while counting, using manual blood
pressure cuffs and looking at their chest rise and fall to count for respirations. Today that picture is
very different, now, almost everything nurses do depends on the information they get from
electronic devices, and Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) professionals, are responsible
for the majority of those devices (Hayhurst, 2015). In the last four weeks we covered many topics
on nursing leadership and styles. First, I learned that time management, leadership theories, learning
styles, leadership and management are all essential parts of nursing. Second, I learned that
everyone has different types of personalities and what seems right to me, is not the only way. Third,
I learned about change theories, conflict theories and leaders as change agents. Also, the conflict
resolution questionnaire analysis showed me that my style of conflict resolution is Collaboration.
Last, I learned about emotional intelligence, communication styles, and the body language quiz
showed me that I have a strong ability to read other people. Nursing informatics and Healthcare

The Social Network Is A Product Of Our Time Essay
The social network is a product of our time and a timely comment on how we live now.
At the end of David Fincher s film, The Social Network, Sean Parker sums up the progress of
today s society we lived on farms, then we lived on cities, and now we are going to live on the
internet . Narrated through parallel story lines; the process of creating Facebook and the resulting
lawsuits between Zuckerberg and Saverin and the Winklevoss Twins and Diva Nirendera. The film
re tells the story of the birth of Facebook, created by Mark Zuckerberg and his associates, Eduardo
Saverin and Sean Parker. The idea of human interest is explored throughout, in the lasting
consequences that jealousy, greed and betrayal has on relationships. Through this Fincher provides
a critique of how today s society connects. The realism of the film, created thorough costuming,
dialogue and lighting accentuates the need for real relationships, messy and vulnerable though they
are, compared to disconnected virtual ones which lack warmth and authenticity. Fincher provokes
the audience to question their own lives and asks if a society that lives on the internet is a good
direction to head.
The opening scenes of the film introduce Mark Zuckerberg, the most enigmatic character in the film
who comes to symbolise the disconnection that society has come to associate with generation Y.

Essay On The Fall Of Western Roman Empire
The Demise of the Great Western Roman Empire
The law of gravity explains that what goes up, must come down. As humans living on Earth we
comply to this law that at times can be dissimilar from objects such as the collapse of the
Western Roman Empire in year 476 AD. Rome was a massive, heavily populated, and rich
empire that controlled Mediterranean trade, which makes the collapse a big deal in history
(Grant). Rome still existed after the year 476 AD, however it was no longer a superpower in the
Western world just a power amongst many predominately in the East. The collapse of Western
Rome was gradual where there was no finite cause, yet a series of events.
The fall of Rome is described in How Rome Fell by Adrian Goldsworthy as a retired athlete,
whose body has declined from neglect and unhealthy lifestyle. Over the years from constant
neglect this person s body would become weak until it succumbs to disease (Goldsworthy). This
portrays exactly how gradual the collapse was of Western Rome and the several events that caused
the fall.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Heat Pump
The above diagrams illustrates how easy it is to utilise the key components but to reverse the
process i.e. to pump heat out rather than in, thus becoming an air conditioning unit (more correctly
called a cooling unit).
All the main components remain same with just the flow reversed (via the 4 way reversing valves)
and some additional minor components (e.g. check valves and specific expansion valve).
Simultaneous heating and cooling
The Heat Pump can be designed and configured as a multi mode machine.
To generate only hot water from ambient air
To simultaneously generate hot water and cooling energy.
To generate only cooling for comfort

Water to Air (W A).
Water Source (iii. iv.) can be further subdivided:
a.Closed Loop: this is the most common form of Ground source system when buried.
b.Open Loop: much less common than closed loop ground source (e.g. ground Aquifer; open lake,
river or sea).
This sort of unit designation would lead to better description and slightly less confusion. It also
highlights that the key difference between water source heat pumps which work on closed and
open loops in the ground is the temperature they work at rather than the medium itself (which is the
same water).

Heat pumps are also sometimes designated by the fuel source used to drive the process which is
most usually electricity ( 95%), less commonly natural gas and much less commonly LPG.

sub description is the flow temperature capability.

Power Transition
Soft power is important in today s world because it essentially influences beliefs on one s behalf.
Convincing people to want what you want, instead of forcing them or coercion them holds a huge
advantage. The use of force and intimidation and coercion will ultimately lead to negative power.
The use of soft powerleads to positive power, where both sides win. Today, the growth of Asia
will heavily influence the power of the world, and is shaped by their beliefs. As Dr. Nye states in
the video, power today is not just winning wars, its about whose story wins and if China s power
spreads throughout Asia then ultimately power lies with them.
I agree with Dr. Nye s understanding and framing of power transition .

The American Dream In The Day Of The Locust
It s called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it. George Carlin. In the
novel, The Day of the Locust, Nathanael West is able to depict the falsity behind the American
Dream. The dream is dangerous. West views Hollywood s version of the phenomenon known as the
American Dream as a myth that many people fall victim to, which is shown through the recurring
themes of despair in the novel.
Through the characters of The Day of the Locust, Nathaniel West is able to illustrate the dangers
of the Hollywood dream. According to Christenson The virtues that were once associated with the
dream have all but disappeared from the societies depicted in American literature as the quest for
fame, fortune, and power has replaced them. (2). Each character in the novel has a different
background, but ultimately came to California for a better life. They are blinded by their desires,
with each of them desiring something they can t have. In pursuit of this fictitious lifestyle, each
character has to put on a certain persona. They all are a representation of a failed attempt at
accomplishing the Hollywood dream. When people think of the American Dream, most think of the
good that arises with it. They don t consider the hardships and obstacles one must overcome.
Many immigrants come to America in hopes of accomplishing their dreams and aspirations, and
if they can t, maybe their children can. Haspel debates how The U.S. has changed drastically in
the last several decades. The middle class, which was the heart of the American Dream, is
dwindling, and the disparity of wealth among social classes continues to grow. (41) This defends
the popular phrase The rich get richer while the poorer get poorer. In essence, the American
Dream can be viewed as the aim to climb the economic ladder. As the economic gap between the
different social classes grow, it becomes harder for certain groups to see the American Dream as an
attainable goal. The American Dream entails a variety of opportunities, and it is hard for minorities
to grasp such opportunities with limited resources. Haspel also debates that Another issue

Jane Austen s Lessons On Dating And Marriage
Jane Austen s Lessons on Dating Marriage Writing a paper for the purpose of discussing Jane
Austen s Lessons on dating and marriage in the 19th century, English novel, Pride and Prejudice

Elizabeth Bennet, the novel s protagonist, takes us on a journey into her thoughts, feelings and
experiences as she learns to deal with various family crisis as well as her own quest for love.
There are good lessons and then not so good ones. But there are lessons to be learned in both. In
some instances, lessons that apply to the 18th century culture do not readily apply to our culture

Added to this prejudice against women in general, was the specific devaluation of a woman
without material wealth. A woman s life centered in the home and the indisputable number one
goal for any young woman was to find a husband. Only then could she overcome the disgrace of
being single and poor and only then was she awarded some level of respect and dignity from
family, friends, and society. In this context, an unmarried woman was viewed as a financial
drain and a burden to her family. To make matters worse, there was the legal statuate, called
entailment, that would not allow a father to leave his estate to his daughters. Entailment required
that an estate pass from father to a son or male heir. This posed a hardship for the Bennet family
and in the event of Mr. Bennet s untimely death, the estate would go to a nephiew, causing Mrs.
Bennet and their five daughters to lose their home and financial security. I As a result of these
values and social norms, a woman s sense of identity and self worth was completely wrapped up
in finding a suitable husband. It was completely understandable for a young woman to feel like she

Anglo Saxon England
4. Vikings in Anglo Saxon England Scandinavian influence The process of Christianization and
Latin influx was interrupted at the end of the eight century (787) when the Vikings (Norwegian and
Dane tribes) began their ravages over Anglo Saxon England, sacking monasteries like Lindisfarne
and Jarrow (793 794). By the ninth century, churches and monasteries in Northumbria and Mercia
lay in ruins while settlements in all parts of the country had been plundered and northern towns,
such as York in 867, captured. Anglo Saxon kingdoms were finally overturned while the Vikings
established their own kingdom in the northeast of England(the Danelaw). Under King Alfred s rule
of Wessex (871 899) and despite several conflicts, the Danish were contained in such area. In turn,
the Danish king had to convert to Christianism, although the moral fibre of the church was
seriously disrupted (Baugh (2005:79). Then Alfred s descendants, Edward the Elder (900 925) and

Ears Have Walls by Steven Connor Essay
Intro:
In Steven Connor s Ears Have Walls: On Hearing Art (2005) Connor presents us with the idea that
sound art has either gone outside or has the capacity to bring the outside inside. Sound work makes
us aware of the continuing emphasis upon division and partition that continues to exist even in the
most radically revisable or polymorphous gallery space, because sound spreads and leaks, like
odour. Unlike music, Sound Art usually does not require silence for its proper presentation.
Containers of silence called music rooms resonate with the aesthetics and affects on the body of a
gallery space; white walls, floorboards to create optimum acoustics, and an ethereal sense of time
and space. When presented in a gallery space, sound art s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

We walk around and we move through constantly changing soundscapes, different types of music,
different genres of music overlap all the time.... So the gallery is the total, immersed experience and
hopefully that transforms the gallery from what we think of as being a rather sterile space for
showing art to something which is much more alive and human.
A desire for non separation of sound artworks can make for an overwhelming but strangely
relieving or refreshing gallery experience. Even though Toop was excited for the possibility of the
overlapping of sound objects which could leak into each other, some artworks including the
scarcely audible scratchings and susurrations of Max Eastley s ethereal metal figures were at risk of
being swamped by the glorious but omnipresent headachy bruise of the sound that throbbed from
Pan Sonic s low frequency installation. Connor reveals that, the solution was a traditional one.
Putting up extra walls within the gallery space to form auditory membranes could insulate and
contain the different sound events.

Sound is an integral part of being and orientates us in the world. Sound is exploratory rather than
merely metric or analytic, because sound does not give us just the outline or contour of things their
size, shape and position but also gives us the sense of their quality, or their relation to us: their

novels The Flight to Canada by Ishamael Reed and The Different Drummer by Melvin Kelley were
powerful and uplifting. The main subject of these two novels are slavery and freedom allowing the
characters to search for their identity either spiritually or physically. The Different Drummer is the
novel that encourages us to strive and push oneself to make a real difference in life, and stop
taking our lives and existence for granted. Both novels detailed the story of the main characters,
that were striving to leave their homes for a better life. All in all, both novels clearly illustrates the
history of the complicated relationships between the two races: whites and blacks.
As depicted in both novels, apart from poor compensation and intimidation, the slaves worked long
hours and under pressure. After working on the plants and sugarcane fields, the slaves had to do
other duties in a homestead, handling cattle, houses and so forth. In most of these cases, the slaves

Earlier in the century, many textile and manufacturing mills fled the Northeast for the promise of
cheap land grants and cheap labor without the hassle of dealing with the negotiation of labor union
agreements (Shuler, 1999). Today, much of that labor has departed for the shores of other
countries like Taiwan, India and China for the promise of much of the same. The Southeast never
fully adapted to the idea and continues to operate as mostly Right to Work states to this day. Shuler
(1999), states that the Southeast also faced additional struggles with union organization; Jim Crow
laws. This meant that biracial unions had to be created and were immediately met with resistance
due to the belief that even biracial interactions at the union level could lead to the downfall of the
white race. The author contends that while historically we think of labor unions as only operating
amongst blue collar workers, there is a huge market available today for labor unions to become
extremely active in the white collar

What Are Propaganda Techniques Used In The Diary Of Anne...

reason they supported their actions is because propaganda persuade large numbers of people

poster they had said that Hitler needs you to come support him and he used different types of
propaganda techniques. I do believe that there is a similar tragedy that is happening in the

attackers killed 130 people, they took hostages to the Bataclan theatre before engaging in a stand

Emotion Coaching and Children with Oppositional Defiant Disorder
Children who consistently display behavioral problems in the home and within a social context
(Dunsmore, Booker, Ollendick, 2013) characterize oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). According
to Dunsmore, Booker, and Ollendick (2013), the widespread cases for ODD are 1 percent to 13
percent in children at the age of 6 17 years (p. 444). Children with ODD have frequent explosive
episodes of opposition, disputation, and antagonist behaviors that upset intercommunications with
like aged children, their own parents, and siblings (Dunsmore, et. al., 2013). Other evidence of
ODD involves rage, quick agitation, and becoming nasty or revengeful (Dunsmore, Booker,
Ollendick, Greene, 2016). Oppositional defiant disorder links these children with the incapability to
express feelings, connect and manage intimate relationships, and work within a team environment
(Dunsmore, et. al., 2013). Children displaying behavioral problems lack the parental emotional
communication called emotion coaching than mothers of children without conduct problems
(Dunsmore, et. al., 2013, p. 445). However, once mothers of children with ODD undertake emotion
coaching, then positive connections with others appear to surface for these children (Dunsmore, et.
al., 2013). Therefore, integrating methods for parental emotion coaching with evidence based
treatment programs for troublesome behavioral disorders are likely to ameliorate

How Muscoskeletal systems affect the running speed of Homo sapiens Acinonyx jubatus Why do
cheetahs run faster than humans for short intervals but humans run for a longer time? The cause of
this is because the cheetah and human contain different muscle fibers in their body. The different
muscle fiber results in the muscles being used differently depending on the situation. In this
research we will identify what the different muscle fibers are and how they work in each organism.
The A. jubatus and the H. sapiens have completely different body structures when compared to each

The objective of the experiment is to understand why the A. jubatus and H. sapiens common
ability to run differs greatly. The experiment will analyze the different type of muscle tissue that
each organism has in their muscles and why the muscle tissues behave differently for each
organism. My hypothesis is that A. jubatus will have a greater amount of a specific muscle fiber
in their muscles when compared to the H. Sapiens. A way to look at the muscle tissue of the A.
jubatus is to look at the fiber composition of the muscles and categorize them. By identifying the
fiber composition we will be able to investigate what each muscle fiber does and what its action
is. It is known that skeletal muscles contain different types of muscle fibers (Burke, 1981). Muscle
fibers can be classified into Type I, Type IIa, Type IIb, and Type IIx by staining them with
monoclonal antibody for each myosin heavy chain isoform and metabolic enzyme activities (Pette
and Staron, 1993, 1997) For H. sapiens, there are two main types of fast contracting muscle
fibers which are Type II and those are subdivided into Type IIa and Type IIb. These type of
muscle fibers have different resistances to fatigue. Resistance to fatigue contributes to how
effectively the muscle fibers access energy. The reason H. sapiens are able to run for much longer
is because their leg muscles contain the muscle fibers IIa and IIb. The IIa muscle fibers have a
high capacity for

Textual Analysis Maestro
The chapter 1968 contributes to a reading of Maestro focusing on the both the role music plays in
the Paul s development and the very nature of music itself. In this chapter, Paul undergoes
emotional and physical maturation, and his appreciation and comprehension of music is strongly
tied with this change. It in this chapter that he meets Rosie, his first love and future wife. Rosie
represents Paul s first experience of the adult world. She acts as a kind of conduit for his
maturation. When teaching her, he employs Keller s idiosyncratic techniques, which he had
previously dismissed as juvenile and worthless: Looser , I would counsel, repeating the clever
phrases I had learned from Keller. This demonstrates a change in Paul s attitude toward music, a

After losing his virginity, Paul gains a greater understanding of emotion: Each day my eyes
seemed to be opened just a little wider and more of that sun drenched town of lush gardens,
scents, and sexuality seem to cram itself in. Rich, sensual imagery is used to evoke a vibrant
image of the scene. Sexuality is personified and described as a force acting upon Paul, changing
him. Paul relates these new emotions to music: I was transported again to that same sensual,
aching zone. The music seemed nearer to lovemaking than to music ... and now I knew about
lovemaking. Again, sensual language is used to convey a strong sense of feeling. Following this,
Paul seeks music full of emotion and power, from Romantic composers Liszt and Rachmaninoff,
as an output for these feelings, ignoring Keller s regiment of rigid Classical music. In this instance,
music plays a key role in Paul s emotional

The Benefits Of Car Buying And Buy A Car
When deciding if it s best to lease or buy a car, there are considerations you should make based on
your personal situation. For example, the monthly payments and whether you drive the car for
business will factor into the process. These questions should help you answer the question of
whether car leasingor car buying is right for you.
How Long Will You Keep the Car?
If you want to trade in for a new car every 2 years, leasing would be the better option for you. You
re essentially paying to rent the vehicle long term before trading it in for another. A car owner who
purchased a car then turned it in within a few years wouldn t get much money for the car since it
would have depreciated significantly. The depreciation for a leased car isn t the concern of the
person who does the leasing. The monthly payments for use of the car have depreciation costs
factored into it.
Are You Rough on Your Vehicles?
A driver who doesn t ding or scratch their car is a driver who should consider a leased car. If you
are constantly finding unexplained scratches or dents, you ll end up paying a lot of money for
the repair of the car. While you might be able to ignore scratches on a car you own, a leasing
company will charge you for those kinds of repairs.
What is Your Available Savings for Fees versus a Down Payment

Impact Of Rearmament And Remilitarization
Rearmament and Remilitarization Hitler s Path to Power
The strongest military power in Europe. On April 2, 1936, this haunting description of the strength
of Nazi Germany was made by Louis Maurin, the French Minister of War at the time (Deist). 18
years earlier, the allied powers had crippled German military strength, limited the size of her
standing army to 100,000 men, prohibited the manufacturing of arms, and virtually liquidated the
German Navy and Air Force after their defeat in World War I (Britannica). For years, Germanyand
her people suffered under devastating financial crises and debilitating terms stipulated in the Treaty
of Versailles. As frustration and a hunger for change swept across the nation, a young and
charismatic orator by the name of Adolf Hitler began to gather support in cities and beerhalls
across the country (Kershaw). As his power grew, Hitler began to disregard regulations set into
place by the Treaty of Versailles, testing Britain and France s will to intervene (Deist). By defying
the military restrictions imposed on Germany by the Treaty of Versailles, Adolf Hitler solidified
his position as the supreme ruler of Germany s Third Reich.
During the 1920s and early 1930s, Hitler began encouraging the growth of the German war industry
while also recruiting hundreds of thousands of Nazi Party members to join the ranks of his para

Third, using our understanding we can become guardians. When I say guardians you are

neglected nobodies. These classes of students may seem stereotypical, but they are as accurate
as a Nerd s math calculations. To start off, these students race to the front seats on the first day,
are always raising their hands in class (because they know everything), and carry collections of
tissues, which are sometimes already used, for their frequent and almost daily nose bleeds. This
description could only refer to the Nerds. Nerds are the classic overachieving, comic book
reading, geeks. They may seem to know everything in class, but Nerds are extremely awkward
when it comes to socializing, unless it s a comic book convention. If they are not solving quadratic
equations for their own amusement, they can most definitely be found digging their noses, while
playing Minecraft. Nerds are also very clumsy and uncoordinated. They may be able to calculate
the rate of acceleration as a basketball is thrown into a net, but they sure cannot shoot one. To
continue, Nerds are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These students are the Nobodies. They blend in and want to stay away from the spotlight, which
the Nerds and No Shows are both shone in. Nobodies are ordinary students, who get average to
decent grades and fill up the void that separates the Nerds from the No Shows. When teachers
praise a Nobody for a good grade in front of the class, everyone asks, who? , because they have no
idea that student exists. Moreover, Nobodies have average looking appearances, average athleticism
and average grades. There is not much to say about them and there is not much that they will

Sociology Lenski Essay
| Kirsten Stone Society Lenski Essay Professor Carver 15 March 2013 Society Lenski Essay How
has human intelligence and curiosity influenced the development of technology throughout history?
From the beginning of time, starting with the hunting and gathering societies, technology always
existed. Granted it was a lot different than the technology created in the industrial time period and
light years away from the technology we have today. It is human nature to seek out ways to do
things better, easier, faster, and that s where curiosity is tied in. According to Gerhard and Jean
Lenski, societies change over time through the process of socio cultural evolution, the effect on
society as that society gains access to new tools and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is huge jump from these feudal societies to industrial societies. All of a sudden there are
assembly lines, steam engines, cotton gins, textiles, and 100,000 work units compared to 100
work units. There were lots of jobs in factories, where people worked in unsafe conditions for
little pay. Children could work and get paid a lot less than adults. The union was developed to try
get employees the rights they deserved, stop child labor, and gain some security in their jobs.
Working in factories on an assembly line began to make workers de skilled and replaceable.
Productivity flew through the roof though with all the new machines and growing technology. In
industrial societies, the five institutions started to change more drastically than in past societies.
Family life became fragmented because there was less communication. The children went to
school and the parents worked. Another thing that changed in the family was that people lived
with their nuclear, or immediate family instead of being surrounded by family like in past
societies. Education was no longer only for the elite who could afford it. Schools were formed and
there was an organized system with teachers. There was a lot of confusion, or anomie, when it came
to religion, because there was more diversity and arguments. The Catholic religion was being
challenged by science and Protestants as well. The government went through some major changes

How Did Catherine The Great Influence The French Revolution
Empress Catherine the Great ruled Russia for approximately thirty years from 1762 to 1796
when she died. She was known throughout the world as an unusual ruler, having taken over the
throne after the brutal death of her husband Peter the third. There she was made Empress of all
Russia, this was unusual because instead of being made regent for her son they circumnavigated
the rules and she was made Empress Regnant. During her time on the throne she made many
radical and life changing decisions. She was a voracious reader and writer, often helping to
translate others works into Russian. She herself was inspired by Voltaire, Diderot, and
Montesquieu. All of which culminated in her greatest work Great Instruction , which was the
beginning of basically all her future endeavors. Catherine the Great was an enlightened ruler who
tried to bring about a new way of life in Russia, by allowing certain freedoms and educating the
public. Catherine the Great was able to gain the loyalty of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

After it s publication in 1667 it was read aloud in public every month from cover to cover, thus
they were subjected to a flood of unheard of ideas from their Empress. 6 Some of the more radical
statements within the Instruction were her comparing Russia to European power. 7 Meaning that
she was comparing Russia in all ways to that of other European countries, such as Britain, France,
and Spain. Catherine tried to make this true by making what she thought of as Enlightened
reforms. One of which was to say that the innocent ought not to be tortured; and in the eye of the
law every person is innocent whose crime is not yet proved .6 Those were just two of a number of
statements made within the Great Instruction, which made way for a whole new slew of ideas and

The Chemical Bisphenol A, Or Bpa
In the year 1891, the chemical bisphenol A, or BPA, was first synthesized. In the 1950s, it was
first used in a plastic product. BPA, a clear solid material, is a synthetic organic compound. It
was used to solve a global, although mainly first world problem: that of making plastic water
bottles that were strong and shatterproof (like Nalgenes), although it was also used in epoxies to
seal pipes and cans and metal containers; in fact it is in most cans for canned foods (Mayo
Clinic). The products it is used for mostly satisfy aesthetic or practical concerns; however, they are
what BPA is mainly used in. These plastics, manufactured using BPA, are called polycarbonate
plastics. The chemical itself strengthens these materials, which is why... Show more content on

The University of Southern Mississippi). However, in the 90s, it came to attention that BPA from
these plastics and epoxies was leeching into the contents of the containers and may have adverse
effects on the human body, although the effects are a topic of controversy. One of the other facets
of bisphenol A is that it mimics the hormone estrogen. In fact it was tested in estrogenic situations,
but never actually used as a drug. Some research suggests that BPA can mess with hormones
within the human body, especially in developing children. BPA is similarly shaped to estrogen,
and therefore it can bind with hormone receptors just like estrogen can, as demonstrated in the
image below. At high doses, it is an endocrine disruptor, so it disrupts hormones and causes them
to not function properly, causing reactions similar to those when there is too much estrogen
present in the body (National Geographic). When large doses of BPA are ingested, the chemical
affects actual hormones like estrogen and testosterone. This can affect the weight of newborn
children, and, according to studies done on mice, when BPA is ingested it causes developmental
problems like early puberty and strange fur color changes (Running FitNews, from Student
Resources in Context). It has also been shown to cause underdevelopment issues in the solely male
organs of male turtles who have ingested BPA (D Thompson). Due to this research, it is

They toured the country for many years holding seances and speaking to spirits. The Spiritualism
Church was founded in 1853 and in two years claimed over 2 million followers. Nowadays most
religions believe in life after death. After death a spirit or soul either goes to heaven or the
underworld. Many believe that ghosts are souls that have been unable to leave earth for the
afterlife. Ghosts are prominent in the popular cultures of various nations. The ghoststory is
ubiquitous across all cultures from oral folktales to works of literature. Perhaps the most

The Film Techniques Used By Cameron
Being a science fiction fan during his childhood, he worked his way in producing several highly
acclaimed science fiction movies such as Avatar, Aliens, and the Terminator. Born on August
16, 1954, in Ontario Canada and later moved to California to finish his college at California
State University. In order to pursue his dreams in cinematography, he worked as a truck driver
and would work on screenplays. Then his career began from an art director in Battle beyond the
Stars (1980) to directing various films. Now, he is an Oscar winning director whose films Titanic
(1997) and Avatar (2009) remains the top grossing films of all time. He has won various awards
from different sides of the world, Norway, France, and the United Kingdom. Mise en scenes were
well incorporated in each of James Camerons movies especially for science fiction movies that used
elegantly crafted visuals.
This paper will focus on the film techniques used by Cameron in his three most known movies,
Titanic (1997), Avatar (2009), and Terminatorseries. Mise en scene according to John Gibbs is
used in film studies in the discussion of visual style. Translated literally it means To put on stage ,
but for the purpose of students, it is defined as the contents of the frame and the way they are
organized (p 5). In addition, a director s style can be identified only through the arrangement and
orchestrations of the film s mise en scene (Nelmes, 425).The films Titanic, Avatar, and Terminator
series were successful

Similarities And Differences Of The Boston Massacre And...
There are many differences and similarities between the Boston Massacre and the Kent State

Soldiers fired at the students and colonist. Also both the National Guard and the British soldiers
carried bayonets. Both protests were strong enough that proper authorities had to come in and
help maintain the crowd who were protesting. The protesters both went to a bar before they
started to protest. Now I m going to start talking about some differences. There are many
similarities; however, there are also many differences. To start, the Boston Massacre started
because the colonist didn t want to pay taxes (Townshend Act) unless they had representatives in
parliament. The colonist were having to pay for land that they were not allowed to use, they also
had to pay taxes for the British soldiers to come to the colonies. It only made the colonist more
mad when they had to pay for the British soldiers to come to the colonies. The Kent state shooting

Reflection Of My Paintings
My paintings are a reflection of my personal experiences and my imagination. My aim to paint is
not just to master the technique but to feel and connect with the subject.
By balancing the art of memory and personal experience, I create works that narrate a story. I
believe my works are just like novels. Each painting is a different chapter from my life. These
visual compositions may not be the exact representation of the particular event but they do
symbolize the incident. I create with daily, recognizable elements, a situation in which the viewer
is also a part of the work and he is confronted with the conditioning of his own perception and has
to reconsider his biased position.
purpose of the work

  • 2. Business Collaboration, Rather Than Market Competition IS BUSINESS COLLABORATION, RATHER THAN MARKET COMPETITION, BECOME THE KEY TO SUCCESS? INTRODUCTION Today s fast growing market requires mutually beneficial partnerships to gain creativity, experience, processes, technology and resources with both right and left brain thinkers, that helps in achieving extraordinary achievements in lesser time which technically framed as collaboration. By making partnerships or collaborating externally, companies are able to innovate and get develop much more quickly and even create solutions of too many problems with an effective and efficient way. (Mudge, et.al 2014) Competition can be define as it is the rivalry among sellers who are trying to achieve same goals such as increasing profits, market share and sales volume by varying price, product, distribution and promotion (Wikipedia, 2014). In market competition, innovative business firms are ever conscious of the competitors and have a constant look on differentiating their brand and product by many different innovations and developments (Ukessays.com, 2014). With a happier working team, collaboration represents an educated one. This is because it naturally inspires a sense of community within an organization and employees feel almost like they are a part of a family. Further, it also allows employees to learn from each other (Elcomcms.com, 2014). The worldwide internet has been a fantastic enabler for greater collaborations. • 3. To Obey or Disobey Obedience is an age old expectation that rulers, priests, and government officials have required for years from their subjects. Most of the time individuals follow their leaders without question. This is the case because the population from which obedience is required believes that they continue to have a choice. When, for whatever reason this belief is lost, some individuals will begin to exhibit an increasing disobedience to the requirement. This often increases to the point of violence or, the case of a country, war. While there are all types of disobedience, this paper will discuss civil disobedience and the social pressure often associated with it. A good example of this type of cycle can be found in the historical background ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (724) Universities over time have done a lot of research trying to understand why people obey and disobey. Most people believe they are good and trustworthy. These individuals feel no matter what occurs they will always try to do the right thing in their day to day life. In The Perils of Obedience, Milgram tells of a woman that the last shock she administered to the learner was extremely painful and reiterates that she did not want to be responsible for any harm to him . (695). Despite her desires she still administered the shock, thus being obedient to the person in charge and not to what she believed. Individuals who still believe in the concept called into question by the disobedient group, often feel intense pressure to maintain loyalty to the old ruling entity. In Doris Lessing s article, Group Minds, she states But the majority will continue to insist speaking metaphorically that black is white, and after a period of exasperation, irritation, even anger, certainly incomprehension, the minority will fall into line .(724) Pressure to conform can manifest itself in another way as well.. The Dare program is said to do good but the harsh reality it s that dare program does not help prevent drug use rather than doing that it does the opposite. I believe the dare program is unaffected and outdated and is possible danger towards kids. Dare instead of helping it causes more harm. The dare program is ineffective. The good it does is outshine by the bad long term. Dare can do more harm than good. It does more harm due to the Dare program introducing then to this new environment they are not familiar While, Since kids are curious showing kids something new they might be curious to try it. • 5. Malcolm Gladwell Plagiarism Malcolm Gladwell wrote Sometheing Borrowed: Should a charge of plagiarism ruin your life in What the Dog Saw: And other Adventures. Gladwell s main point in his story is that plagiarism is unfair and dishonest. He then goes on to discuss the many facets of plagiarism; like melodies in songs and picnic tables. Gladwell wants people who are interested in the arts and humanities to read this because he pulls pieces of music, art and literature to use as examples since plagiarism is a key component in these areas. This is because people change up others work and make it into their own for the world to develop and grow. Malcolm Gladwell explains that when an idea goes public, people are allowed to copy it and make others work into a grander cause. Overall I think Gladwell was trying to focus on why ideas are plagiarized and their reasoning behind it, rather than just focusing on the fact that it was plagiarized. Gladwell starts off by introducing a psychiatrist by the name of Dorothy Lewis whose work and life had been amalgamated in a Broadway play called Frozen. Lewis s friends had continuously nagged her to go see the play, after a short few months she received a phone call from the theatre production of frozen asking her if she would do a talk back after the play. Before she accepted to do it she asked if she could read the script. After reading it she realized that Bryon Lavery not only took her work but violated her as well. At the time Lavery ... Sometimes, however, doctors and technicians can get a better diagnostic image by inserting a special transducer into one of the body s natural openings An abdominal ultrasound is a useful way of examining internal organs. Because ultrasound images are captured in real time, they can show movement of internal tissues and organs and enable physicians to see blood flow. No, the video does not seem to ignore the dangers of exploiting women. In fact, it is trying to sensitize the public on the factors that lead to teen prostitution. Although money may act as a motivating factor, some of these girls are looking for affection and attention from the old men that they sleep with. • 8. Intersectionality And Intersecting Identities Intersectionality is a concept that is utilized to better understand the dynamics of oppression and privilege in regards to an individual s identity. Intersectionality is how different identities align and cross (intersect) to create more identities and experiences. For example, a black woman who is homosexual must deal with the prejudices and challenge that both of those identities present. Recognizing and understanding intersectionality is vital for facilitating a beneficial intercultural dialogue. • 9. Year Round Education Essay Year Round Education For more than twenty years the educational and economic benefits of year round schooling have been debated in the United States. Experts agree that year round schooling may not be the answer to the problems of all school districts. However in more than 205 districts nation wide, problems have been resolved by year round schooling. First I need to explain that this is different from extending the school year; on a year round schedule, students attend school the same number of days 180 as students on the traditional nine month calendar. The difference is that year round education (YRE) students have several short vacations rather than one three month summer break. Most year round schools operate on a multi track ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These countries typically require longer instructional days and more of them than most American schools, where the eight hour per day, 180 day a year model is standard (Worsnop,96). This type of schooling may be the answer to the decades old concern that American students are being ill prepared to compete with their counterparts overseas. By the most objective measure, test scores, year round education seems to be working. For example, before switching to its new schedule, Socorro schools had some of the lowest test scores in the country. Now Socorro students outscore the state average on the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills (Blackman,99) For many school administrators, the most persuasive argument in favor of YRE is that it offers a cost effective way of relieving classroom overcrowding. Instead of renting commercial space, portable classrooms or constructing new schools administrators can enlarge the capacity of existing facilities by converting them to year round operation. Implementing a year round calendar extends the capacity of a school by 33 percent, according to NAYRE (National Association for Year Round Education.) The Oxnard Elementary School District is considered the pioneer of year round educational systems. Oxnard first reorganized their schedule in 1976. The driving forces behind the updated schedule were the increasing number of students in the buildings and lack of funds. Oxnard has had success with this arrangement. Building ... • 11. Benefits And Treatment Of Dissociative Identity Disorder Diazepam Paired With Psychotherapy Dissociative Identity Disorder is a disorder that is hardly talked about, however has extreme effects on patients that suffer with it. However, this topic is important because it can lead to finding treatments that may be more effective for patients with DID. Past studies have shown that the main treatment for Dissociative Identity Disorderusually involves therapy. The most popular types of therapy are psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, and family therapy. Treatment for DID has a specific purpose which is to unite an individual with their personalities, and form a functional identity (Pais, 2009). Additionally, a strength of past studies is that they usually do a follow up on patients. Another strength is that the participants are usually all of different ages. One limitation is that there is never enough participants for research, another limitation is that there aren t many treatment options to try on patients. Furthermore, is diazepam useful when paired with psychotherapy? Moreover, my study will be unique because there has only been one case that tried lorazepam, which is a similar drug to diazepam, and it proved to be successful (Mushtaq, Shoib, Arif, Shah, Mushtaq, 2014). Also, my study will have more than one patient, to have more accurate results. Finally, diazepam and psychotherapy could be a good treatment for DID. Method Participants/Subjects It ... • 12. Impact Of The Smartphone On Students, Teachers, And... The relatively recent escalation of smartphones across the world has brought about many circumstances that no one had imagined prior to the 21st century. One potentially major impact of the smartphone is its effect on students, teachers, and educational facilities. In this paper, I will explore the impact of the rhetorical devices used by the authors of two scholarly articles from different academic fields. Using Smartphones to Supplement Classroom Reading by Karen Bromley is written in the applied field of education; and, You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him learn: Smartphone use in higher educationby Chad C. Tossell and his team of authors originates from the academic field of the social sciences. Although Bromley and Tossell are both writing on the impact of smartphones in education, their differing uses of rhetorical devices allows Tossell to effectively reach a scholarly audience, while Bromley s article is appealing to the general public. 1. Overview of Each Article In Using Smartphones to Supplement Classroom Reading, Karen Bromley, a professor at Binghamton University in New York, investigates a how the use of a smartphone to read affects herself and how it might impact students. She emphasizes the aspect of using a smartphone to perform minor research tasks while reading, such as searching for definitions of words or additional context. The average price of a smartphone will drop from about $315 last year to $200 over the next several years This will obviously have a huge impact on the mobile Internet economy, which is already exploding from the growth of smartphone penetration in the past few years. • 16. Importance Of Servant Leadership And Indian Culture Servant Leadership In Indian Culture and Hindu Religion Although servant leadership is often associated with Christianity and assessed in a Biblical context, it is important to recognize that servant leadership is present in other religions and cultural contexts as well. Servant leadership has the capability to exist in any environment where there is humility, selflessness, and a commitment to exhorting and empowering one s followers. Historically, the best servant leaders have come from a variety of eras, cultures, ethnicities, and religions, proving that servant leadership transcends all demographic and religious boundaries and is founded on a core set of beliefs and values. This paper will aim to discuss servant leadership in the context of the Hindu religion and the culture of India, proving that servant leadership promotes unifying people rather than dividing by religious and cultural differences. Servant Leadership in the Indian Culture Culture is to a human collectivity is what personality is to an individual (Hofstede, 2001). By this, Hofstede means that culture aids in identifying a people group in the same way that a personality identifies a person. This means that in the same way that people with differing personalities but similar values can be servant leaders, unique cultures with the same foundational emphasis on service and leadership can practice servant leadership. This is important to remember when evaluating servant leadership in various cultural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of the artworks in this exhibit include: The Reddest Thread, Cathy, Queen Anne, Poetry Man 1, Poetry Man 2, and Journey. Stacey Torres is an African American folk artist, writer, and dancer. She was born in Jamaica, New York and currently lives in New Castile, Indiana. The primary focus of her work is women in natural settings. Staring at the front center, the eyes will follow the path of lines that lead your eyes over the entire painting. When you take a closer look at the piece, you will begin to notice a repetition of certain colors and shapes. The painting is also asymmetrically balanced. In my opinion, the most important Principle of Design used for this piece is contrast. I feel this is the best strategy that I learned, however, when the master teacher does it, it works a lot better than when I do it. Once students start to get comfortable with me, I feel that the classroom management strategies that I use, just like the master teacher, will work a lot better. To try and get my students under control, especially when they re talking, I have been using chants to get them focused on the task at hand. This is something that the master teacher does often, so I want to continue the routine. However, when she does the chants, I feel like the class responds better, but I am hoping that students will feel comfortable with me soon. Fact: When you buy auto insurance, you re basically purchasing peace of mind and the knowledge that an accident won t mean the end of your savings and a lifetime of debt. However to ensure that you will be covered for any losses or damages, it s better to opt for quotes from a company that has a reputation to maintain and the means to pay out when you make a claim. Opting for an obscure, fly by night company just because it gave you the cheapest quote is a bad idea. Some home insurance policies cover such items, but that varies from item to item and policy to policy. Myth 10: If I get into an accident and the other party is at fault but has no insurance, my insurance company will pay for my damages. Fact: Not necessarily. The Healthcare Technology Of Today Essay The Healthcare Technology of Today Norma Valdez Rosa University South Online Healthcare Technology of Today Introduction Healthcare technology has come a long way. I remember the days of putting my fingers on patients wrists to take their pulse and looking up at the clock while counting, using manual blood pressure cuffs and looking at their chest rise and fall to count for respirations. Today that picture is very different, now, almost everything nurses do depends on the information they get from electronic devices, and Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) professionals, are responsible for the majority of those devices (Hayhurst, 2015). In the last four weeks we covered many topics on nursing leadership and styles. First, I learned that time management, leadership theories, learning styles, leadership and management are all essential parts of nursing. Second, I learned that everyone has different types of personalities and what seems right to me, is not the only way. Third, I learned about change theories, conflict theories and leaders as change agents. Also, the conflict resolution questionnaire analysis showed me that my style of conflict resolution is Collaboration. At the end of David Fincher s film, The Social Network, Sean Parker sums up the progress of today s society we lived on farms, then we lived on cities, and now we are going to live on the internet . Narrated through parallel story lines; the process of creating Facebook and the resulting lawsuits between Zuckerberg and Saverin and the Winklevoss Twins and Diva Nirendera. The idea of human interest is explored throughout, in the lasting consequences that jealousy, greed and betrayal has on relationships. Through this Fincher provides a critique of how today s society connects. The realism of the film, created thorough costuming, dialogue and lighting accentuates the need for real relationships, messy and vulnerable though they are, compared to disconnected virtual ones which lack warmth and authenticity. Fincher provokes the audience to question their own lives and asks if a society that lives on the internet is a good direction to head. The opening scenes of the film introduce Mark Zuckerberg, the most enigmatic character in the film who comes to symbolise the disconnection that society has come to associate with generation Y. As humans living on Earth we comply to this law that at times can be dissimilar from objects such as the collapse of the Western Roman Empire in year 476 AD. Rome was a massive, heavily populated, and rich empire that controlled Mediterranean trade, which makes the collapse a big deal in history (Grant). Rome still existed after the year 476 AD, however it was no longer a superpower in the Western world just a power amongst many predominately in the East. The collapse of Western Rome was gradual where there was no finite cause, yet a series of events. The fall of Rome is described in How Rome Fell by Adrian Goldsworthy as a retired athlete, whose body has declined from neglect and unhealthy lifestyle. Over the years from constant neglect this person s body would become weak until it succumbs to disease (Goldsworthy). In the novel, The Day of the Locust, Nathanael West is able to depict the falsity behind the American Dream. The dream is dangerous. West views Hollywood s version of the phenomenon known as the American Dream as a myth that many people fall victim to, which is shown through the recurring themes of despair in the novel. Through the characters of The Day of the Locust, Nathaniel West is able to illustrate the dangers of the Hollywood dream. According to Christenson The virtues that were once associated with the dream have all but disappeared from the societies depicted in American literature as the quest for fame, fortune, and power has replaced them. They are blinded by their desires, with each of them desiring something they can t have. In pursuit of this fictitious lifestyle, each character has to put on a certain persona. They all are a representation of a failed attempt at accomplishing the Hollywood dream. When people think of the American Dream, most think of the good that arises with it. They don t consider the hardships and obstacles one must overcome. Many immigrants come to America in hopes of accomplishing their dreams and aspirations, and if they can t, maybe their children can. Vikings in Anglo Saxon England Scandinavian influence The process of Christianization and Latin influx was interrupted at the end of the eight century (787) when the Vikings (Norwegian and Dane tribes) began their ravages over Anglo Saxon England, sacking monasteries like Lindisfarne and Jarrow (793 794). By the ninth century, churches and monasteries in Northumbria and Mercia lay in ruins while settlements in all parts of the country had been plundered and northern towns, such as York in 867, captured. Anglo Saxon kingdoms were finally overturned while the Vikings established their own kingdom in the northeast of England(the Danelaw). Under King Alfred s rule of Wessex (871 899) and despite several conflicts, the Danish were contained in such area. In turn, the Danish king had to convert to Christianism, although the moral fibre of the church was seriously disrupted (Baugh (2005:79). Ears Have Walls by Steven Connor Essay Intro: In Steven Connor s Ears Have Walls: On Hearing Art (2005) Connor presents us with the idea that sound art has either gone outside or has the capacity to bring the outside inside. Sound work makes us aware of the continuing emphasis upon division and partition that continues to exist even in the most radically revisable or polymorphous gallery space, because sound spreads and leaks, like odour. Unlike music, Sound Art usually does not require silence for its proper presentation. Containers of silence called music rooms resonate with the aesthetics and affects on the body of a gallery space; white walls, floorboards to create optimum acoustics, and an ethereal sense of time and space. So the gallery is the total, immersed experience and hopefully that transforms the gallery from what we think of as being a rather sterile space for showing art to something which is much more alive and human. A desire for non separation of sound artworks can make for an overwhelming but strangely relieving or refreshing gallery experience. Even though Toop was excited for the possibility of the overlapping of sound objects which could leak into each other, some artworks including the scarcely audible scratchings and susurrations of Max Eastley s ethereal metal figures were at risk of being swamped by the glorious but omnipresent headachy bruise of the sound that throbbed from Pan Sonic s low frequency installation. Connor reveals that, the solution was a traditional one. Emotion Coaching and Children with Oppositional Defiant Disorder Children who consistently display behavioral problems in the home and within a social context (Dunsmore, Booker, Ollendick, 2013) characterize oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). According to Dunsmore, Booker, and Ollendick (2013), the widespread cases for ODD are 1 percent to 13 percent in children at the age of 6 17 years (p. 444). Children with ODD have frequent explosive episodes of opposition, disputation, and antagonist behaviors that upset intercommunications with like aged children, their own parents, and siblings (Dunsmore, et. al., 2013). Other evidence of ODD involves rage, quick agitation, and becoming nasty or revengeful (Dunsmore, Booker, Ollendick, Greene, 2016). Oppositional defiant disorder links these children with the incapability to express feelings, connect and manage intimate relationships, and work within a team environment (Dunsmore, et. al., 2013). Children displaying behavioral problems lack the parental emotional communication called emotion coaching than mothers of children without conduct problems (Dunsmore, et. al., 2013, p. 445). The objective of the experiment is to understand why the A. jubatus and H. sapiens common ability to run differs greatly. The experiment will analyze the different type of muscle tissue that each organism has in their muscles and why the muscle tissues behave differently for each organism. My hypothesis is that A. jubatus will have a greater amount of a specific muscle fiber in their muscles when compared to the H. Sapiens. A way to look at the muscle tissue of the A. jubatus is to look at the fiber composition of the muscles and categorize them. By identifying the fiber composition we will be able to investigate what each muscle fiber does and what its action is. It is known that skeletal muscles contain different types of muscle fibers (Burke, 1981). Muscle fibers can be classified into Type I, Type IIa, Type IIb, and Type IIx by staining them with monoclonal antibody for each myosin heavy chain isoform and metabolic enzyme activities (Pette and Staron, 1993, 1997) For H. sapiens, there are two main types of fast contracting muscle fibers which are Type II and those are subdivided into Type IIa and Type IIb. These type of muscle fibers have different resistances to fatigue. Resistance to fatigue contributes to how effectively the muscle fibers access energy. The reason H. sapiens are able to run for much longer is because their leg muscles contain the muscle fibers IIa and IIb. The IIa muscle fibers have a high capacity for ... While those are all very good examples, you left out the whole majority of the United States: you, your neighbor, the guy that lives down the street, and every citizen of our great country. We are all guardians, it may not seem like it. When you go to town hall on election day and put your ballot in the box, you are a guardian. When you go to church on Sunday or bow your head to pray any of the five times of the day, you are a guardian. When go to any type of meeting; whether it school board, or one of Trump s rallies, you are a guardian. In conclusion, we are all guardians of OUR America. We can all use the liberties that were bestowed on us at birth by understanding, using, and guarding. Keep the American dream, become ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. No-Shows And Nobodies Research Paper Nerds, No Shows, and Nobodies In any classroom of any school, there are always three types of students. A seating plan can easily reveal each type of student: sitting in the front row are the nose picking Nerds, in the back row are the napping No Shows, and in the middle row, sit the neglected nobodies. These classes of students may seem stereotypical, but they are as accurate as a Nerd s math calculations. To start off, these students race to the front seats on the first day, are always raising their hands in class (because they know everything), and carry collections of tissues, which are sometimes already used, for their frequent and almost daily nose bleeds. This description could only refer to the Nerds. Nerds are the classic overachieving, comic book reading, geeks. They may seem to know everything in class, but Nerds are extremely awkward when it comes to socializing, unless it s a comic book convention. If they are not solving quadratic equations for their own amusement, they can most definitely be found digging their noses, while playing Minecraft. Nerds are also very clumsy and uncoordinated. All of a sudden there are assembly lines, steam engines, cotton gins, textiles, and 100,000 work units compared to 100 work units. There were lots of jobs in factories, where people worked in unsafe conditions for little pay. Children could work and get paid a lot less than adults. The union was developed to try get employees the rights they deserved, stop child labor, and gain some security in their jobs. Working in factories on an assembly line began to make workers de skilled and replaceable. Productivity flew through the roof though with all the new machines and growing technology. In industrial societies, the five institutions started to change more drastically than in past societies. Family life became fragmented because there was less communication. The children went to school and the parents worked. Another thing that changed in the family was that people lived with their nuclear, or immediate family instead of being surrounded by family like in past societies. Education was no longer only for the elite who could afford it. Schools were formed and there was an organized system with teachers. There was a lot of confusion, or anomie, when it came to religion, because there was more diversity and arguments. The Catholic religion was being challenged by science and Protestants as well. There she was made Empress of all Russia, this was unusual because instead of being made regent for her son they circumnavigated the rules and she was made Empress Regnant. During her time on the throne she made many radical and life changing decisions. She was a voracious reader and writer, often helping to translate others works into Russian. BPA, a clear solid material, is a synthetic organic compound. It was used to solve a global, although mainly first world problem: that of making plastic water bottles that were strong and shatterproof (like Nalgenes), although it was also used in epoxies to seal pipes and cans and metal containers; in fact it is in most cans for canned foods (Mayo Clinic). However, in the 90s, it came to attention that BPA from these plastics and epoxies was leeching into the contents of the containers and may have adverse effects on the human body, although the effects are a topic of controversy. One of the other facets of bisphenol A is that it mimics the hormone estrogen. In fact it was tested in estrogenic situations, but never actually used as a drug. Some research suggests that BPA can mess with hormones within the human body, especially in developing children. BPA is similarly shaped to estrogen, and therefore it can bind with hormone receptors just like estrogen can, as demonstrated in the image below. At high doses, it is an endocrine disruptor, so it disrupts hormones and causes them to not function properly, causing reactions similar to those when there is too much estrogen present in the body (National Geographic). When large doses of BPA are ingested, the chemical affects actual hormones like estrogen and testosterone. This can affect the weight of newborn children, and, according to studies done on mice, when BPA is ingested it causes developmental problems like early puberty and strange fur color changes (Running FitNews, from Student Resources in Context). It has also been shown to cause underdevelopment issues in the solely male organs of male turtles who have ingested BPA (D Thompson). Due to this research, it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
