The Sherman Act Of 1890
A Sherman Act of 1890 The Sherman Act of 1890 as referenced in McConnell and Campbell
(2011), consists of two main regulations; Section 1 Every contract, combination in the form of a
trust or otherwise, or conspiracy, in restraint of trade or commerce among the several States, or
with foreign nations is declared to be illegal. Section 2 Every person who shall monopolize, or
attempt to monopolize, or combine or conspire with any person or persons, to monopolize any part
of the trade or commerce among the several states, or with foreign nations, shall be deemed guilty
of a felony (as later amended from misdemeanor ). (p.375) The historical context of the Sherman
Act lies in the corporate climate of the United States during the time period preceding the creation
of these antitrust laws. At that time the market was dominated by several monopolies in industries
such as railroads, tobacco production, meatpacking and coal mining. The US Government
determined the monopolies did not provide enough fair competition in those industries to provide
protection of consumers. The Sherman Act of 1890 created the legislation to declare the existing
monopolies illegal and made violation of the Act a felony, essentially deeming the existing
monopolies in violation of the law. These two regulations made common practices such as price
fixing and market divisions illegal. The Sherman Act would open the doors for individuals and
government agencies such as the U.S

The Metropolitan Museum Of Art Essay
Positioned alongside Central Park within the heart of New York City, The Metropolitan Museum of
Art is one of the largest and most influential art museums in the world. The Met houses an extensive
collection of curated works that spans throughout various time periods and different cultures. The
context of museums, especially one as influential as the Met, inherently predisposes its visitors to a
set of understandings that subtly influence how they interpret and ultimately construct meanings
about each individual object within a museum. By analyzing two separate works on exhibit at the
Met, I will pose the argument that museums offer a unique expression of a world view that is
dictated through every element of its construction.
An object placed on display behind a glass case inside a museum would hold a vastly different
meaning if it were for sale by a street vendor, such as the individuals who set up their tables only a
few feet away from the Met. Brent Plate in Religion, Art, and Visual Culture argues that objects
obtain different meanings in different locations and historical settings. The different meanings that
objects are able to obtain is attributed to the relationships that are established between the object
itself and the environment that it is located in. These relationships often involve the kind of
audience that a museum attracts, where the work is exhibited, and how the exhibit is laid out.
Museums subsequently have the ability

Hyperbole In Macbeth
Literature is strongly admired for its plethora of techniques that enhance the meaning of its
creations. A motif is a literary technique which is a recurring symbol or idea that establishes the
theme or central focus. William Shakespeare, highly renowned English playwright, has written
many plays with unique motifs that define each play significantly. One of his most famous
playwrights is Macbeth, a tragic story about a brave Scottish general named Macbeth that receives a
prophecy that he will one day be the King of Scotland. Macbeth does everything in his dwindling
power to ensure the legitimacy of the crown, regardless of the unfortunate consequences that
plummet his soul into the depths of darkness and despair. Throughout the play, Shakespeare... Show

When Macbeth returns from completing the forsaken deed, he is in shock and awe of the huge
crime he recently committed. He says, Will all great Neptune s ocean wash this blood/ Clean
from my hand? No, this my hand will rather/ The multitudinous seas incarnadine,/Making the
green one red (2.2. 78 81). The hyperbole helps emphasize the irrevocable task that Macbeth just
did. He s saying that there is not enough water in the world to wash or clean himself of the blood.
There is no way for him to get rid of the blood on his hands. He s also saying that everything he
touches henceforth will inevitably be tainted by this blood. Within the hyperbole, Macbeth
alludes to Neptune, the Roman god of the seas. This shows that not even the water from the god
who blesses and protects the seas and water as a whole will be able to wash away his sins and
crimes. Blood in this scene represents the extensive guilt that Macbeth feels for killing King
Duncan. Macbeth will never be able to return to his true self, the blood will always remain on his
hands, and he will forever be haunted with this. By stating that he can change the color of the ocean
to red shows how greatly this has affected Macbeth and the huge amount of guilt that he now has.
This is the first murderous crime that Macbeth commits for the crown, and the guilt from it
continues to haunt him as he plots to kill others that would pose

The Effects Of Groundwater Pollution On The World
Groundwater pollution is a prominent problem in most areas of the world. High nitrate
concentrations have been identified as one of the main culprits of groundwater pollution.
Agriculture is a primary anthropogenic source involved in the spreading and distribution of
nitrates in rural areas. China is considered one of the largest in terms of agricultural production. As
the population of China increased over time, the recycling of plant nutrients could no longer renew
the loss of nutrients from harvesting. The famine between 1960 and 1970 caused radical changes
when it came to policies about population control and large efforts were made to increase
agricultural yields. This was encouraged by increasing the application rate of chemical fertilizers,
especially ones that were nitrogen based (Emteryd, Lu and Nykyist, 1998). However, higher
irrigationand nitrogen fertilizerinputs results in decreased water and nitrogen use efficiency (Hu,
Li, and Chen, 2010). Currently China is the leading producer of rice, wheat onion cabbage and the
second largest producer of corn (See Appendix). Presently the average annual nitrogen fertilizer
application is 200 kg N/ha in China (Zhang, Xu, XIaomin, Dong and Ballantine, 2013). As a result
of this, China unsurprisingly suffers from large amounts of nitratepollution in its groundwater,
especially in northern China. The main focus of this paper will therefore be on the North China
Plain and the provinces surrounding the Yangtze River as

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Maid Agencies
Maid agencies and partnering recruitment offices act as intermediaries between employers and
maids. They serve an indispensable role in bringing together two distant parties, namely the affluent
families who need housekeeping help, and the impoverished women who can offer their labor in
exchange for regular income. Problems arise when maidagencies fail to provide this crucial link in a
satisfactory manner.
Why hire a maid from maid agencies?
Having someone to help you in house cleaning is an efficient way to manage your time,
especially if you have a day job. Whether you are busy with family affairs or career, you want
someone to assist you. Here are some of the things that you should consider to know if a maid

professional cleaners to fulfil your dream of a spotlessly clean home.
Bonded and insured:
A standalone maid will not ordinarily be bonded and insured and, therefore, in the event of any loss
that occurs either on account of negligence or theft, the homeowner will have no recourse for
compensation.
When dealing with a service providing agency, you should ensure that the agency is bonded against
loss caused by its employees and the employees themselves are insured against accidents on the
work site.
Employee Screening:
Check with the service provider about how rigorous their reference checks are with regard to
establishing identity, proof of residence (temporary and permanent), criminal background, and
family reputation of its workforce.
Ascertain whether the team deputed by the agency is on its payroll or the work is being

The Ethics Of Sexual Power
Fig. 37.
Diana transpires in the Bible as being worshipped by All of Asia and the world. This statue of the
goddess Diana/Artemis existed being adorned with numerous breasts and on the surface of the
middle to lower part of this statue there occurs carvings of goats.
F or the ancients, sex existed as a religion that became fueled by lust and occurring everywhere,
and at anytime. Though Satan s numerous advocates, the goddesses helped elevate destruction to
damage God s sacred sexual gift relentlessly. Ultimately, this sexual disgrace thrived nonstop; just
as it flourishes today, existing just as much of a religion of lust, as in previous times.
The Manipulation of Sexual Power
As mentioned in Part II, the goddesses laid claim to sexual pleasure from the earliest recorded
time, successfully exploiting sex to rule societies. Appallingly, ancient women had a terrible set
up from the start concerning their sexual beings, for it appears from the earliest of time women s
creative power existed as being controlled and manipulated as a power belonging to others, outside
of her whether the control evolved from the priests or the regional god or goddess. Specifically,
instead of women being praised for the ability to create life, in its place evolved praises for the
phallus, the penis occurred glorified and worshipped in the majority of societies. It prevailed with
such power; a new king would eat the appendage of his predecessor to absorb his sacred authority.

Life With Prohibition
Life with prohibition The prohibition can be categorized in many ways, such as it would only
take away the distribution of alcohol, but I believe that it deals with many things and all drugs.
Many people may disagree because prohibition failed when it was a law, but I feel like with the
advances of moral and social qualities in our society today, that we could accept prohibition in our
society(Moore, Mark H). Prohibition could prove to promote our society by taking away the
distribution of drugs and alcohol(Moore, Mark H). Another way it could advance our society is by
making people healthier and lowering the obesity rate with alcohol by taking away that which they
overindulge themselves in. It could also improve the health of the American... Show more content

Also, it did not succeed because many people were dependant on alcohol during that time
because of the depression and the people were very down and upset because just taking care of
yourself was hard much less if you had a family it was nearly impossible to take care of all of them
because of the great depression, it eventually leads to alcoholism(O Brien, Jane). Another reason
that prohibition did not succeed is because bootlegging occurred and illegal alcohol was
produced and there was nothing the law wanted to do because with prohibition being in place, the
government lost a lot of money because the government was tied into alcohol with taxes the
government lost an estimated eleven billion in tax revenue from alcohol(PBS). The government
started the federal poisoning program since people weren t slowing down with the consumption
of alcohol the federal poisoning work ordered the poisoning of industrial alcohol companies so
that people would get sick and that the idea is that they would be scared to drink alcohol. An
estimated ten thousand people died from this program and it made many people sick. (Blum
Deborah). A reason prohibition did not succeed is that people did not want prohibition during that
time period because of all of the

Pennywise The Clown Quotes
Pennywise The Clown As a child, I vividly remembering watching the movie, It . I remember
this insignificant event clearly for one reason. It kept me up for days because I was so terrified by
the film. It was originally a horror novel written by Steven King but was also released into a
movie. Every great horror movie has a villain or monsterand the monster in It goes by the name
pennywise the clown. Pennywise the Clown induces fearin me and millions of others because his
traits closely resemble those of Cohen s seven thesis which define what make a monster. In the
opening scene of the movie, a little boy is shown playing in the rain. The boy s name is Georgie
and he is doing what kids have done in the rain for years, which is playing with a toy boat in the
gutter. The camera then shows Georgie s paper boat unfortunately flow into a gutter in the
sidewalk. Georgie starts yelling NOOO at the loss of his boat and scarmbles up to the gutter. At
first the gutter appears empty, until the audience hears a terrifying voice say Hi Georgie! and
the terrifying clown head shown in my image appears inside the gutter. The clown we know as
penywise. Pennywise asks if Georgie wants his boat back and Georgie says yes. Pennywise then
asks Georgie if he wants a balloon and cotton candy. Georgie eagerly reaches inside and the
demonic clown pulls him in and murders the boy. The appearance of pennywise the clown
would induce nightmares in most children. He has pale white skin, a red nose and a receding
hairline with the rest of his head covered in curly red clown hair. As for his clothes, Pennywise
wears classic circus clown clothes. A one piece that is brightly colored with blue sleeves and a
yellow body. The purpose of Pennywise the Clowns actions and appearance are meant to do one
thing. To scare children. When pennywise the clown is first seen talking to Georgie, although he
is extremely creepy being in a gutter, a place no one would ever want to see a clown he seems
friendly in his demeanor. However, when he pulls Georgie into the gutter his face becomes even
more demonic and he gives a chilling smile and laugh with fanglike, yellow stained teeth. If
Pennywise the clown doesn t seem terrifying yet, he

Burgermeister s Daughter Essay
Burgermeister s Daughter
What was the predominant image of women and women s place in medieval society? Actual
historical events, such as the scandal and subsequent litigation revolving around Anna Buschler
which Steven Ozment detail s in the Burgermeisters Daughter, suggests something off a
compromise between these two literary extremes. It is easy to say that life in the sixteenth century
was surely no utopia for women but at least they had some rights.
Anna was the daughter of Hermann Buschler, a prominent citizen who had even been the
burgermeister of the German town of Schwabisch Hall, within the Holy Roman Empire. When she
was young, Anna had simultaneous affairs with a young local nobleman, Erasmus Schenk of
Limpurg, and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anna s story shows that women did have some rights, and that they also had, at least in this case,
the ability to defend those rights within legal institutions. Even more important is evidence of
public opinion, instead of siding against Anna as an unfit daughter causing trouble for her family
Hall s citizens actually sided with Anna against her father. In this, both daughter s obedience to
father and woman s obedience to man were turned on their heads, revealing that regardless of
religious doctrines of male authority, life among the people was much more complex.
While not a complete victory for Anna, the battle for her inheritance was not a complete loss
either. She capably fought her father and even the entire city council of Hall. This was no easy
task because she couldn t represent herself in court. It was one of the first times where the moral
code of Germany was overturned. She contested her father and went against the respect you re
supposed to have. Her story was not a complete positive statement of female dominance, because
that certainly was not the case, an ugly thirty year court battle doesn t indicate disempowerment
either, even though her battle didn t personally benefit her to the fullest, it was a large step for
women.
In the sixteenth century the normative relations between father and child, and among

Characteristics Of Hegemonic Masculinity In The...
Entertainment is one of the biggest and most popular industry that can have influence to the
audience. From movies, TV shows, and music, one can see the characteristics of hegemonic
masculinity when it comes to gender. Hegemonic masculinity is seen as a standard to define what
a real man is. It creates a genderhierarchy, which men that fits the ideal masculinityis dominant over
the rest of the genders. Women, men who do not fit the masculine characteristics, and others are
seen as feminine and therefore, inferior. The problem here is that few men and women fit into the
ideal gender, but we were taught and expected to look and behave like that.
Physical appearance is a big thing when it comes to the entertainment industry. Sexualization and
objectification occurs in the media especially towards women. Some of these behaviors would be
justified because of this belief. In Erin Hatton and Mary Nell Trautner s article, Equal Opportunity
Objectification , they talked about the sexualization of men and women. They mention how the
media constructs masculinity and femininity. One is the gender stereotype of the body type a man
and woman must have. Men have to be tall, muscular, and strong. Women have to be thin, weak,
slender, and fragile.
They used the magazine, Rolling Stone, which is popular in the music culture to compare the cover
images of men and female and the change of sexualization over the years. Even though both are
sexualized, it is different between the

Concentric Zone Theory
I. CONCENTRIC ZONE THEORY Burgess s concentric zone theory was presented in 1924. He
presented a descriptive urban land use model that divided cities in a set of concentric circles
expanding from downtown to the suburbs. His representation came from Burgess observations of
various American cities, especially Chicago. Burgess model assumes a relationship between the
socio economic status of households and the distance from the Central Business District. The
further from the district, the better the quality of housing, but the longer the commuting time.
Making this Accessing better housing is done at the expense of longer commuting times and costs
as well. According to Burgess, urban growth is a process of expansion and reconversion of land
uses, with a tendency of each inner zone to expand in the outer zone. According to Burgess theory,
a large cityis divided in six concentric zones, Burgess s model has its cons according to critics. It
is said to be a product of its time. That is, it won t work the same with present cities. The model
was developed when American cities were growing very fast and when motorized transportation
was still uncommon as most people used public transit. Thus the concept cannot be applied to those
from the second half to the twentieth century where highways have enabled urban development to
escape the reconversion process and to take place directly in the suburbs. The model in this case
was developed for American cities and is limited elsewhere.

The Multivisions of Multiculturalism Essay
The Multivisions of Multiculturalism
ABSTRACT: The questions suggested by the term multiculturalism range far and wide, embracing:
questions of inclusion; questions of criteria; questions of self identity; and questions of the meaning
of multiculturalism. In this essay I provide a framework: (i) that allows us to begin a discussion
that might answer such questions; (ii) that illuminates why it is that such a modest aim is the most
we can hope for at this time; and (iii) that provides an understanding of what we can do in a
multicultural world in order to illuminate what we should do. This framework will reject both the
idea of toleration as found in Berlin s conception of human choice and will speak of as maximal
multiculturalism, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This framework will prove to parallel a classic Hobbesianism, a universally undesirable result that
will, paradoxically, provide further direction and reason for hope.
1. One immediate response by many in the USA to such questions is an appeal to the ideal of
tolerance an ideal that Sir Isaiah Berlin, perhaps more than any thinker in our time, has defended.
Berlin s central argument for toleration is that belief in the one true view has repeatedly led to
disaster: One belief, more than any other, is responsible for the slaughter of individuals on the
altars of the great historical ideals... This is the belief that somewhere, in the past or in the future,
in divine revelation or the mind of the individual thinker, in the pronouncements of history or
science, or in the simple heart of an uncorrupted good man, there is a final solution. (1) A second
argument that Berlin offers for toleration is that we have no right to insist that all be educated in
our way, unless we know that we are pure and good precisely what we do not and cannot know.
As Tolstoy argued, the history of education is a history of tyranny, where each new school struck
off one yoke only to put another in its place. (2) But about one thing they were all agreed: that one

The Period Of South Asian History
Society and government in our day and age is much more secular than it has been for most of
human history. In fact, many countries, such as the United States of America, even have laws
built into their governments constitutions establishing a barrier between religion and
government. But throughout humanity s past, it was quite common across many diverse
societies for religion and politics to overlap; religion often influenced politics and politics often
used religion for practical purposes. In the process of trying to come up with a topic to research
on South Asian history in the ancient and medieval periods, I was very interested in this
relationship between religion and politics and knew I would want to pursue this topic in my
paper. The period of South Asian history to which I narrowed my focus to was that of the
Mauryan Empire and the post Mauryan polities that existed in the times after the collapse of the
Mauryan Empire. Thus, the period I focused my research and paper on fits primarily within the
years of circa 321 BCE to around 320 CE. The leading question behind my research was that I
wanted to research the nature of the relationship that existed between politics and the religions
present during this time in the region of South Asia; I wanted to examine whether this relationship
existed, and if so, to examine how and in what ways these religions influenced politics and vice
versa. In my research I found that there in fact was a strong relationship between these

Reflection On Business Luncheon
For this year in fall of 2017, Healthcare Law class had the first opportunity to experience a business
luncheon under the guidance and planning of Dr. Griswold. It took place on October 11, 2017 from
11 am to 12:15 pm at Student Center 170. The point of this experience is for the class to practice
networking with local healthcare leaders and learn from it. Experiencing this event should allow the
class to have better preparations for future professional events. This paper will entail my reflections
on the business luncheon mainly, the activities surrounding it, my reactions, and connections
between the event and my classes. In the beginning of the semester, the business luncheon was

healthcare fields such as being an administrative specialist in a hospital. She was very friendly

story was very interesting such as being from Nigeria and was involved with track for a while.
We were able to go through all the common questions; her answers were memorable as well. We
kept the conversation going throughout the luncheon and had a great time. My overall reaction
to this event was positive. At first, I was a nervous and stressed because I have never network
with a healthcare leader in a professional setting like a business luncheon. It was also mainly due
to not knowing what to expect once it happened even though we were prepared for it. However,
during the event, I felt much more at ease especially with Adebola s happy and open personality.
The atmosphere was very cozy and felt casual formal as well. I was able to converse normally
without feeling intimidated. It was not terrible as I

Comparing Poems Industrialization And Soft Rains
We came into this world and started to take over nature which, in the past, ruled the world itself. In
the poems industrialization by Oni and Soft Rains by Sara Teasdale, they both share the message
that nature s cycles will forever go on regardless of technology through the use of syntax and
figurative language.
In industrialization Oni demonstrates the overall idea of human unimportance by using sentence
structure. what is a human/ but a cosmic spec/ of semi wanderlust... . The sentence structure of the

First, the third stanza the poem writes Robins will wear their feathery fire,/ Whistling their whims
on a low fence / Wire; . Alliteration is present in the lines that say feathery fire and whistling their
whims since they both use the same first letter as one another. This alliteration shows how nature
does not need humans in order for it to carry out its daily functions. Humans are not a necessary part
of life, the robins will still keep doing what they need to without the invasion of humans. In the last
stanza, the poem states And spring herself, when she woke at/ Dawn/ Would scarcely know that we
were gone. . This is an example of personification because it shows spring waking up and continuing
her routine which gives an inanimate object a human characteristic. This stanza also helps prove
the theme of the unimportance of humans since the quote is saying that spring arouse and did not
even notice the lack of existence of humans. The quotes above use figurative language to relate the
theme of human unimportance to nature carrying on its normal responsibility. Both show that
nature does not need human interference to continue with

Funny memories with Anton (True Story)

My best friend named Antonius, we used to call him by the name of Anton. Anton, I ll always

No day without laughing while studying together Anton. We both had some physical similarity,
namely Chinese, handsome, thin, short, bespectacled and love to make people laugh. We fell
together because there was an oil spill on the road so that the motorcycle was driven Anton fell on
the road. When falling, we feel like the riders are being dropped in circuit racing. Our downfall on

The next day, Anton told me, yesterday really happen real fights between the participants of the
game. I really regret not being able to see a real fight. I can only imagine the fight was like a story
in the movie The Karate Kid.
When did I ask how the end results? Anton tells if they won the game. But after the game is
finished, then their Dojo fight with others Dojo elsewhere.
The question now is if I and Anton still there, whether both of us will be beaten like in the movie
The Karate Kid? Due to the shots of the two of us which caused the match to be the hot
atmosphere. I also do not know the answer. :)
There are still a lot of stories about me and Anton is not told here due to the limited number of
words. To date I will never forget has had a friend named Antonius because we have experienced no
day without laughing while still in college with him.
Anton now lives and works in Sydney, Australia. While I lived in Tangerang, Indonesia.

Essay Against School Uniforms
Do you think that dress codes are ridiculous these days? Do you think the dress code is sexist, or
unfair. Are school uniforms healthy for our students? Let s find out! The dress code in the 21st
century is WAYYY outdated, and needs to be updated. Let s talk about the most absurd and
outrageous code in the world: the dress code. So, over the years, the dress code has gotten a little
too out of hand. It is RIDICULOUS at what the dress code prohibits. For example, some of the
things we have seen over the years have prohibited religious or cultural beliefs. For instance, there
was a muslim girl suspended for wearing a headscarf, and also cross necklaces were banned.
Another school dress code banned baggy clothing, and sports clothing! Oh and remember that new
cute gray and white striped shirt you got from hollister this summer. Well, say goodbye to that,
because you are only allowed to wear school colors. Oh, and don t even think about growing your
hair out. Your hair HAS to comply with the dress code. Imagine being told that! Well, that s what
most students have to go through everyday! So, not only are dress codes a problem, but school
uniforms are even WORSE! Uniforms definitely do not come cheap. According to ggwash.org,
they say uniforms are usually around $249! And also, a survey of Nevada students state that 90%
of students do not like having to wear a uniformto school. So, wouldn t you rather spend that $249
on something that your kid enjoys to wear, something that will show your child s style and
individuality. Most people might say well, uniforms help the kids focus on school, so they are not
worried about what everyone is wearing, but research has shown that math scores between
highschool and middle school students have increased by 0.01% after the uniforms were adopted,
while the reading scores even dropped after the uniforms were purchased. Also, according to
naesp.org, uniforms make it easier to get kids ready, or save time in the morning, but the only thing
uniforms would save time for was for what you would wear, and if you pick out your outfit the
night before, putting on your clothes in the morning should take the same amount of time in the
morning as putting on a

King Tutankhamun s Death Essay
The topic I chose was the many theories that surround the death of the Egyptian king Tutankhamun.
The main theory that I will focus on is that his death was because of assassination. There are many
books and articles based on the research of King Tutankhamun s assassination. I reviewed many
scholarly sources that describe the life of King Tutankhamunas well as the discovery of his tomb.
King Tutankhamun ruled over the land of Egypt as pharaoh. He is known as the boy king, and for
the lavish grave goods that were discovered in his tomb. King Tutankhamun was the last pharaoh of
the eighteenth dynasty before his sudden untimely death, due to being surrounded by power hungry
people which resulted in his assassination.
King Tutankhamun was born around 1342 BCE in Amarna. It is unknown who his parents were,
and how he received the title of pharaoh. Akhenaten the pharaoh before him only had daughters
with his wife Nefertiti. According to Michael King and Gregory Cooper Tutankhamun was the son
of one of Akhenaten s minor wives. After the death of Akhenaten Egypt was chaotic because of the
changes that Akhenaten made. These changes caused Akhenaten to fall out of favor with some of
the Egyptian people. When Tutankhamun came to power in 1333, he was wed to Akhenaten and
Nefertiti s third daughter Ankhesenamun. The arrangement of his marriage to Ankhesenamun was
to make his claim to king legitimate. Since he was not the legitimate son of Akhenaten, marrying
his daughter who had a

Buying Feminine Hygiene Products For People Magazine s...
ADVERTISER AND MEDIUM The advertiser for this product is Energizer, who is a
manufacturer. This advertisement was shown in People magazine s July 2015 edition.
MARKET SITUATION Carefree is a lesser known and lesser used brand in comparison to its
competitors, so its important for their ads to really resonate with their target market.
Competition in this industry is mainly between Tampax, Always, and Playtex, which almost
leaves Carefree out of the running. Carefree products are sold in Target, Walmart, and
drugstores like Walgreens, CVS, and Rite Aid. Another thing to consider with this industry are
the consumer attitudes towards these products. A lot of women tend to be embarrassed when
buying feminine hygiene products because of the social stigma around periods, but the fact is
that they still have to buy them. So, when the consumers go to the store to purchase these type
of products they ll usually purchase the same product every time because they know it works,
they know where it is in the store, and they know the price, which makes the whole process go
quickly. TARGET MARKET CUSTOMER PROFILE This print ad was published in People

Essay on The Media s Influence on Teen Violence
On April 20, 1999, two students walked into Columbine High School armed with shot guns and
explosives. The incident ended in tragic results, as fifteen families will forever set one less plate
out at the dinner table. March 24, 1998, an eleven year old and a fourteen year old walked into

The youth justice system was defined by the 1962 Family Court Act that was invented to deal
with kids from the 1950 s who only stole from the market or carried B.B. guns. It is powerless to
the teens of today who commit random killings, robberies, and rapes. Research has also shown
that kids who grow up in poverty or lower income levels are more likely to exhibit violent
behavior. As more and more children are being raised in poor families, they suffer from the
instability caused by their parents lack of money. Janelle Rohr quotes a journalist for The
Washington Spectator when she concludes that teenagers violent behavior is an expression of
frustration and an effort to take some of the wealth they are denied (14). This could mean robbing,
raping, or even killing. It is mainly inner cities where these crimes occur. Rohr states that
Homicides take the lives of more children in the District of Columbia than any other type of injury,
including car accidents, house fires, or drownings (171). The attention that the teens get from
committing crimes may be the only type of attention they ever get, and this may be the reason that
many young people turn to the life of a criminal.

A Surprising Number Of Problems Arise From Tight Hamstrings
A surprising number of problems arise from tight hamstrings and, given the frequency of knee
injuries among athletes and dancers, it s obvious that the methods used to keep them free could be
better. This article presents a more effective way to free your hamstrings, improve your
performance, and avoid injury.
A Look at Your Hamstrings
The hamstrings are the muscles that run from behind and below your knees up the backs of your
thighs to your sitbones . Soft tissue injuries, knee pain, torn menisci (the cartilage pads in your
knees that cushion the bones), chondromalacia patelli (painful wearing of the cartilage behind the
kneecaps), and poor posture often come from tight hamstrings. Tight hamstrings can prevent you
from reaching full ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As you can see, hamstring tension has far reaching effects on movement, balance, and the health of
joints.
Why Stretching Doesn t Protect 100% Against Hamstring Pulls and Soft Tissue Injuries
Knowing all this, athletes and dancers attempt to stretch their hamstrings. Attempt is the correct
word because stretching produces only limited and temporary effects, which is one reason why so
many athletes (and dancers) suffer pulled hamstrings and knee injuries.
As anyone who has had someone stretch their hamstrings for them knows, forcible stretching is
also usually a painful ordeal. In addition, stretching the hamstrings disrupts their natural
coordination with the quadriceps muscles, which is why ones legs feel shaky after stretching the
hamstrings.
Fortunately, there is a more effective way to manage hamstring tension than by stretching. To
understand how it works, one must first recognize that hamstrings that need stretching are usually
holding tension that is, they are actively contracting. In that case, the person is holding them tense
by habit, unconsciously. Oddly enough, if one tries to relax them, one is likely to find that one
cannot; one may then assume that the muscles are completely relaxed and need stretching. You
may not realize that those muscles are contracting on automatic due to postural habits stored in your
central nervous system. Any attempt to stretch them simply re triggers the impulse to re contract
them to restore

focus on winning conventional conflicts rather than irregular wars by empowering those small
nations to improve the security of their countries to prevent conflicts from happening. The NDS

Huntington s Chorea or Huntington s Disease is a rare progressive genetic disorder which
afflicts roughly 7 out of every 100,000 people in North America (Rawlins, 2016, pp. 144 153).
The disease manifests primarily in tissues of the brain, and affects the shutdown of many primary

The Rhetorical Analysis Of John F. Kennedy
In the early 1960 s, the United States of America was endeavoring major racial complications and
tension, while fighting communism overseas and protecting the nation from nuclear war and
weapons. Fear and doubt overwhelmed the majority of the American people and were desperate for
a strong, courageous leader. Kennedy performed many powerful speeches during his presidency,
however, his most influential speech was his presidential inaugural address on January 20, 1961.
John F. Kennedyprovided substantial reassurance when he addressed the nation shortly after being
sworn into office. When attempting to inspire and motivate our citizens, Kennedy proposed that
our citizens were being tempted by war, and successfully appealed to the emotions of his
audience. He used this speech to not only celebrate his victory, but to correspondingly unite the
American people. His inaugural speech to the world on that day imposed a sense of tranquility
and confidence in their new leader that was much needed at the time. It presents a strong presence
of ethos, pathos, and logos to effectively accomplish his goal of speaking to the heart of the
audience. My goal in this paper is to successfully evaluate and examine the passionate speech that
President Kennedy performed because he invoked a sense of unity in order to accomplish lasting
harmony. Kennedy s main purpose of the speech was to unite all of his listeners together. At the
time, there were many complications regarding the United States

Foundation Of Leadership
Chapter Two Analysis
The Foundation of Leadership by Kouzes James and Posner Barry focused on a study that was
conducted to figure out what most people look for in a leader. It mentioned about a questionnaire
being done on 76,000 people around the globe to see what specific personal traits, characteristics,or
attributes they want in a leader. They asked several people what values, personal traits, or
characteristics do they look for and admire in a leader. In response there was several hundred
different values, traits, and characteristics. From this it was reduced down to twenty characteristics.
Then it became four that was the most striking/ most evident that received over 60% of the votes.
Those four striking characteristics of a leader are being honest, forward looking, inspiring, and
competent. One characteristic of a leader are being honest. A leader cannot model the way without
being seen as honest/trustworthy. No matter what setting they are in, everyone wants to be fully ...

People expect their leaders to be enthusiastic, energetic, and positive about the future. If a leader is
upbeat, positive, and optimistic about the future that offers people hope. A leader must be able to
communicate in a way that excites them about the cause. They have to make the context
meaningful. Leaders showing enthusiasm and excitement are important they signal the leader s
personal commitment to pursuing a dream. Inspiring leaders tell their coworkers that they need to
have a meaning or purpose in their lives.
The fourth striking characteristic of a leader is competent. Leadership competence has to do with
the leader s checklist and ability to get things done. The leader will need to guide the entire
organization, whether if it s large or small in the direction which it needs to go. A leader needs to
be more technically knowledgeable than someone less involved in providing service or making

Problems Associated With Urban Noise Pollution
Introduction
Urban noise pollution is causing increased health risks in the population. This is due both to the
fact that noise levels, particularly those associated with transport, have increased dramatically since
the mid twentieth century and that a higher percentage of the world population is now
concentrated in urban systems. This problem has also increased economic costs due to failing
health and reduced productivity of the population, affecting between 0.2% and 2% of gross
domestic product in the US. In the European Union, the costs range between $13 billion and $38
billion per year. In addition, traffic noise causes the depreciation of properties exposed to high
noise levels.
Studies on urban noise are becoming more numerous, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a starting point, vehicles were classified into the following categories: motorcycles, cars
(including cars, trucks, small delivery vans and microbuses), buses, mini buses (small buses)
and trucks (over 3 tons). Subsequently, we conducted measurements of single noise on the
streets of the city (n = 533 vehicles), seeking to exclude the impact of other vehicles and other
sources of noise. To this end, we used an integrated Extech type II sound level meter (SLM) to
evaluate the instantaneous sound level (Li,1sec) during the approach and passage of each
vehicle in front of the SLM on roads with 1 and 2 lanes. These measurements followed
conventional techniques and were conducted using a tripod and a windscreen at a height of 1.2
m at a distance of 1 m from the road with A and slow weights. In parallel, we gauged the pace at
which every vehicle was voyaging utilizing manual Bushnell supplies. In all cases, the
predominating conditions included level, dry streets, wind speeds short of what 4 km/h and a low
frequency of other clamor sources.
For each type of vehicle, we conducted a regression analysis between the maximum noise level
(when passing in front of the SLM) and speed. Because this yielded low coefficients of
determination, we implemented classification trees to dissociate subgroups depending on the
speed of vehicles. Subsequently, we averaged all noise levels recorded in each subgroup at time
zero (passing in front of the SLM) and

Exploratory Paper
Beforebeginning the quantitative research report, we had to had complete an exploratory research
report. This was necessary as it allowed us to see trends in relation to healthy eating. The
exploratory research mainly consisted of qualitative questions as we wanted to see if there was any
relationship between a cupcake and a chicken and spinach sandwich. After analyzing the results of
the survey, we were able to get a better insight of the perceptions and preferences that consumers
have when it comes to eating and purchasing healthy food.
Some of the more interesting things that we gained from reviewing the survey results was that
consumers would rather eat a chicken and spinach sandwich over a cupcake. The main reasons for
this was that a chicken and spinach sandwich would not only count as a proper meal but it s also a
healthier option than the cupcake. Another interesting thing that we found was that consumers feel
as though it is more expensive to eat healthy than it is to eat unhealthy. In the end, the most
interesting thing that we found from the survey was that consumers were divided on the fact that
organic food was a healthier option as compared to non organic ... Show more content on

Due to the fact that consumers had mixed opinions on the healthiness of organic food, we decided
that creating a quantitative research survey would serve as a good opportunity to find more
information on this topic. Our hypothesis was that organic food is perceived as a healthier option
when comparing it non organic food, indicating that consumers are willing to pay more organic
products. Ultimately, our research question and hypothesis relates to healthy eating as it illustrates
how some consumers feel eating organic food is heathier, while some consumers feel that eating
organic food isn t any healthier than non organic

In the documentary, High Crimes and Misdemeanor (1990) produced by frontline, details the side
effects from the Iran Contra affair proposed by the Reagan Administration and the consequences of
the Reagan administration for not complying with its constitutional authority on notifying the
United States Congress on the covert operation, which is the main organ responsible for the
appropriations of funds and its allocation. The Covert Operation facilitated the sale of arms to Iran,
which was under a strict arms embargo during the hostage situation in 1979.

However, the Reagan administration avoided Congresses requests and proceeded to oversee covert
military aid by raising private and foreign funds for the contras.
Initially the agenda was to allow Israel to ship weapons to Iran and the United States would be
responsible to later resupply Israel and receive their payments in a timely manner. However,
Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North a hawkish leader of the National Security Council modified the
plan to allow the proceeds received from the sale of arms to Iran to be diverted to fund anti
Sandinista and anti communist rebels against the communist backed Nicaraguan Government.
This scandal garnered the public to become very dubious and outraged about the Reagans
Administrations ambitions within Latin America, several investigations ensued mainly by the U.S.
Congress, but the sale of weapons to Iran was not deemed a criminal offense and President Ronald
Reagan was not in violation of law because of the refusal to declassify prominent documents.
However, key actors within the administration were charged for being an accomplice to the

My Junior Year Research Paper
During my Junior year, one academic challenge I faced was when I let my science partner
copied my homework. My partner was a type of person that would skip class and her grades weren
t the greatness. I thought she was my friend because we would hangout and talk about life. This
was a big thing I faced in my junior year. One day my lab partner didn t show up for three days.
When she finally showed up, I asked her why she decided to skip school. She told me that she had a
lot of family problems going on. I felt really bad for her because she missed a lot of lab reports. So
she ask me if I can help her on her homework. I pulled out my notes and assignments to help her.
The time ran out and I didn t have time to help her. She asked if she can take

Characteristics Of The South African Apartheid
Black Consciousness and the defeat of the inferiority complex instilled by apartheid institutions
is a necessary precondition for progress in South Africa . (Crais, 361) The South African Reader
and Apartheid, 1948 1994 provide an abundant amount of first hand accounts that depict the clear
differences in life experience and lifestyles of the white and black South Africans. Both texts give
prime examples of what life was like under the apartheid regime from the precursors of apartheid
all the way to the end of a very divided era. Throughout apartheid, the difference between was black
and white South Africans was very apparent. Whites lived in better conditions, had better access to
resources and education as well as higher quality resources, while blacks were continually
mistreated and discriminated against.
Life as a white South African was usually pretty desirable and easy going. Apartheid Regnany in
Dubow s book describes some of the disparities between the two populations. By the end of the
decade whites, numbering less than one fifth of the total population, commanded close to three
quarters of the country s share of income. (Dubow, 99) The chapter also goes onto the describe
the kinds of things that the whites were able to acquire: pools, a three litre Ford, ranch style
homes, and maids or house boys. This displays that the quality of life was much higher for whites,
with that being side the benefits also made there way over to the black communities but they were

education for children and due to the extremity of these matters most people believe that one person

charitable purposes. There are two types of foundations, privet foundation and a grant making
foundation for public charities. A privet foundation, such as the MacArthur Foundation, obtains its
money from an individual, a family, or even a corporation where as a grantmaking public charity,
such as the Ms. Foundation for women, acquires their money from several different sources
including individuals, other foundations, or even government agencies (Grantspace). Regardless of
the type all foundations dedicate themselves to worthwhile causes and while many many
foundations are doing extraordinary work, the MacArthur foundation is making a monumental
impact on climate change.
Climate change is a massive issue that is caused by many different things however, the main reason
is greenhouse gasses. Greenhouse gasses are gasses, carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide

The Dehumanization And Consequences Of Slave Codes In America
Slaves were forced to work in the colonies and already had very limited freedom, but to make it
worse slave codes was then created. Slave codes were biased laws created by the English colonies
and soon later enforced to the American English colonies. Sometimes slave codes would differ
from state to state. It restricted African Americans rights whether they were free or not. Even if an
African American was free, they weren t truly free because of the restrictions of the slave codes.
Colonists pride themselves needing to be the more dominant and supreme person. Slave codes were
tightened after every slave rebellion, in effort to prevent them from escaping and diminishing the
chance of it happening again. The slave codes became an obstacle that enslaved African Americans
faced, taking their opportunity away to expand, improved their population as well as their culture.
Slave codes stripped enslaved African Americans of their identity, making them forget where they
came from or belong. The slave codes stole their voice, replacing it with the colonists ignorance and
complete dominance over African Americans. The slave codes became a depiction of the
dehumanization, humiliation, and the psychological damage of subjugated slaves. Although the
constitution has wrote in fine print that all men are created equal, the slave codes have proven the
statement wrong in placement of stating some are tortured because of their ethnicity. Slave codes
affected anyone who had an ounce of

  • 3. The Sherman Act Of 1890 A Sherman Act of 1890 The Sherman Act of 1890 as referenced in McConnell and Campbell (2011), consists of two main regulations; Section 1 Every contract, combination in the form of a trust or otherwise, or conspiracy, in restraint of trade or commerce among the several States, or with foreign nations is declared to be illegal. Section 2 Every person who shall monopolize, or attempt to monopolize, or combine or conspire with any person or persons, to monopolize any part of the trade or commerce among the several states, or with foreign nations, shall be deemed guilty of a felony (as later amended from misdemeanor ). (p.375) The historical context of the Sherman Act lies in the corporate climate of the United States during the time period preceding the creation of these antitrust laws. At that time the market was dominated by several monopolies in industries such as railroads, tobacco production, meatpacking and coal mining. The US Government determined the monopolies did not provide enough fair competition in those industries to provide protection of consumers. The Sherman Act of 1890 created the legislation to declare the existing monopolies illegal and made violation of the Act a felony, essentially deeming the existing monopolies in violation of the law. These two regulations made common practices such as price fixing and market divisions illegal. The Sherman Act would open the doors for individuals and government agencies such as the U.S ... • 4. The Metropolitan Museum Of Art Essay Positioned alongside Central Park within the heart of New York City, The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the largest and most influential art museums in the world. The Met houses an extensive collection of curated works that spans throughout various time periods and different cultures. The context of museums, especially one as influential as the Met, inherently predisposes its visitors to a set of understandings that subtly influence how they interpret and ultimately construct meanings about each individual object within a museum. By analyzing two separate works on exhibit at the Met, I will pose the argument that museums offer a unique expression of a world view that is dictated through every element of its construction. An object placed on display behind a glass case inside a museum would hold a vastly different meaning if it were for sale by a street vendor, such as the individuals who set up their tables only a few feet away from the Met. Brent Plate in Religion, Art, and Visual Culture argues that objects obtain different meanings in different locations and historical settings. The different meanings that objects are able to obtain is attributed to the relationships that are established between the object itself and the environment that it is located in. These relationships often involve the kind of audience that a museum attracts, where the work is exhibited, and how the exhibit is laid out. Museums subsequently have the ability ... • 7. Hyperbole In Macbeth Literature is strongly admired for its plethora of techniques that enhance the meaning of its creations. A motif is a literary technique which is a recurring symbol or idea that establishes the theme or central focus. William Shakespeare, highly renowned English playwright, has written many plays with unique motifs that define each play significantly. One of his most famous playwrights is Macbeth, a tragic story about a brave Scottish general named Macbeth that receives a prophecy that he will one day be the King of Scotland. Macbeth does everything in his dwindling power to ensure the legitimacy of the crown, regardless of the unfortunate consequences that plummet his soul into the depths of darkness and despair. Throughout the play, Shakespeare... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Macbeth returns from completing the forsaken deed, he is in shock and awe of the huge crime he recently committed. He says, Will all great Neptune s ocean wash this blood/ Clean from my hand? No, this my hand will rather/ The multitudinous seas incarnadine,/Making the green one red (2.2. 78 81). The hyperbole helps emphasize the irrevocable task that Macbeth just did. He s saying that there is not enough water in the world to wash or clean himself of the blood. There is no way for him to get rid of the blood on his hands. He s also saying that everything he touches henceforth will inevitably be tainted by this blood. Within the hyperbole, Macbeth alludes to Neptune, the Roman god of the seas. This shows that not even the water from the god who blesses and protects the seas and water as a whole will be able to wash away his sins and crimes. Blood in this scene represents the extensive guilt that Macbeth feels for killing King Duncan. Macbeth will never be able to return to his true self, the blood will always remain on his hands, and he will forever be haunted with this. By stating that he can change the color of the ocean to red shows how greatly this has affected Macbeth and the huge amount of guilt that he now has. This is the first murderous crime that Macbeth commits for the crown, and the guilt from it continues to haunt him as he plots to kill others that would pose ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Effects Of Groundwater Pollution On The World Groundwater pollution is a prominent problem in most areas of the world. High nitrate concentrations have been identified as one of the main culprits of groundwater pollution. Agriculture is a primary anthropogenic source involved in the spreading and distribution of nitrates in rural areas. China is considered one of the largest in terms of agricultural production. As the population of China increased over time, the recycling of plant nutrients could no longer renew the loss of nutrients from harvesting. The famine between 1960 and 1970 caused radical changes when it came to policies about population control and large efforts were made to increase agricultural yields. This was encouraged by increasing the application rate of chemical fertilizers, especially ones that were nitrogen based (Emteryd, Lu and Nykyist, 1998). However, higher irrigationand nitrogen fertilizerinputs results in decreased water and nitrogen use efficiency (Hu, Li, and Chen, 2010). Currently China is the leading producer of rice, wheat onion cabbage and the second largest producer of corn (See Appendix). Presently the average annual nitrogen fertilizer application is 200 kg N/ha in China (Zhang, Xu, XIaomin, Dong and Ballantine, 2013). As a result of this, China unsurprisingly suffers from large amounts of nitratepollution in its groundwater, especially in northern China. The main focus of this paper will therefore be on the North China Plain and the provinces surrounding the Yangtze River as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Manipulation of Sexual Power As mentioned in Part II, the goddesses laid claim to sexual pleasure from the earliest recorded time, successfully exploiting sex to rule societies. Appallingly, ancient women had a terrible set up from the start concerning their sexual beings, for it appears from the earliest of time women s creative power existed as being controlled and manipulated as a power belonging to others, outside of her whether the control evolved from the priests or the regional god or goddess. • 11. Life With Prohibition Life with prohibition The prohibition can be categorized in many ways, such as it would only take away the distribution of alcohol, but I believe that it deals with many things and all drugs. Many people may disagree because prohibition failed when it was a law, but I feel like with the advances of moral and social qualities in our society today, that we could accept prohibition in our society(Moore, Mark H). Prohibition could prove to promote our society by taking away the distribution of drugs and alcohol(Moore, Mark H). Another reason that prohibition did not succeed is because bootlegging occurred and illegal alcohol was produced and there was nothing the law wanted to do because with prohibition being in place, the government lost a lot of money because the government was tied into alcohol with taxes the government lost an estimated eleven billion in tax revenue from alcohol(PBS). The government started the federal poisoning program since people weren t slowing down with the consumption of alcohol the federal poisoning work ordered the poisoning of industrial alcohol companies so that people would get sick and that the idea is that they would be scared to drink alcohol. • 12. Pennywise The Clown Quotes Pennywise The Clown As a child, I vividly remembering watching the movie, It . I remember this insignificant event clearly for one reason. It kept me up for days because I was so terrified by the film. It was originally a horror novel written by Steven King but was also released into a movie. Every great horror movie has a villain or monsterand the monster in It goes by the name pennywise the clown. Pennywise the Clown induces fearin me and millions of others because his traits closely resemble those of Cohen s seven thesis which define what make a monster. In the opening scene of the movie, a little boy is shown playing in the rain. The boy s name is Georgie and he is doing what kids have done in the rain for years, which is playing with a toy boat in the gutter. The camera then shows Georgie s paper boat unfortunately flow into a gutter in the sidewalk. Georgie starts yelling NOOO at the loss of his boat and scarmbles up to the gutter. At first the gutter appears empty, until the audience hears a terrifying voice say Hi Georgie! and the terrifying clown head shown in my image appears inside the gutter. The clown we know as penywise. Pennywise asks if Georgie wants his boat back and Georgie says yes. Pennywise then asks Georgie if he wants a balloon and cotton candy. Georgie eagerly reaches inside and the demonic clown pulls him in and murders the boy. The appearance of pennywise the clown would induce nightmares in most children. He has pale white skin, a red nose and a receding hairline with the rest of his head covered in curly red clown hair. As for his clothes, Pennywise wears classic circus clown clothes. A one piece that is brightly colored with blue sleeves and a yellow body. The purpose of Pennywise the Clowns actions and appearance are meant to do one thing. To scare children. When pennywise the clown is first seen talking to Georgie, although he is extremely creepy being in a gutter, a place no one would ever want to see a clown he seems friendly in his demeanor. However, when he pulls Georgie into the gutter his face becomes even more demonic and he gives a chilling smile and laugh with fanglike, yellow stained teeth. • 13. Burgermeister s Daughter Essay Burgermeister s Daughter What was the predominant image of women and women s place in medieval society? Actual historical events, such as the scandal and subsequent litigation revolving around Anna Buschler which Steven Ozment detail s in the Burgermeisters Daughter, suggests something off a compromise between these two literary extremes. It is easy to say that life in the sixteenth century was surely no utopia for women but at least they had some rights. Anna was the daughter of Hermann Buschler, a prominent citizen who had even been the burgermeister of the German town of Schwabisch Hall, within the Holy Roman Empire. When she was young, Anna had simultaneous affairs with a young local nobleman, Erasmus Schenk of Limpurg, and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anna s story shows that women did have some rights, and that they also had, at least in this case, the ability to defend those rights within legal institutions. Even more important is evidence of public opinion, instead of siding against Anna as an unfit daughter causing trouble for her family Hall s citizens actually sided with Anna against her father. In this, both daughter s obedience to father and woman s obedience to man were turned on their heads, revealing that regardless of religious doctrines of male authority, life among the people was much more complex. While not a complete victory for Anna, the battle for her inheritance was not a complete loss either. She capably fought her father and even the entire city council of Hall. This was no easy task because she couldn t represent herself in court. It was one of the first times where the moral code of Germany was overturned. She contested her father and went against the respect you re supposed to have. Her story was not a complete positive statement of female dominance, because that certainly was not the case, an ugly thirty year court battle doesn t indicate disempowerment either, even though her battle didn t personally benefit her to the fullest, it was a large step for women. • 14. Characteristics Of Hegemonic Masculinity In The... Entertainment is one of the biggest and most popular industry that can have influence to the audience. From movies, TV shows, and music, one can see the characteristics of hegemonic masculinity when it comes to gender. Hegemonic masculinity is seen as a standard to define what a real man is. It creates a genderhierarchy, which men that fits the ideal masculinityis dominant over the rest of the genders. Women, men who do not fit the masculine characteristics, and others are seen as feminine and therefore, inferior. The problem here is that few men and women fit into the ideal gender, but we were taught and expected to look and behave like that. Physical appearance is a big thing when it comes to the entertainment industry. Sexualization and objectification occurs in the media especially towards women. Some of these behaviors would be justified because of this belief. In Erin Hatton and Mary Nell Trautner s article, Equal Opportunity Objectification , they talked about the sexualization of men and women. They mention how the media constructs masculinity and femininity. One is the gender stereotype of the body type a man and woman must have. Men have to be tall, muscular, and strong. Women have to be thin, weak, slender, and fragile. They used the magazine, Rolling Stone, which is popular in the music culture to compare the cover images of men and female and the change of sexualization over the years. Even though both are sexualized, it is different between the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Concentric Zone Theory I. CONCENTRIC ZONE THEORY Burgess s concentric zone theory was presented in 1924. He presented a descriptive urban land use model that divided cities in a set of concentric circles expanding from downtown to the suburbs. His representation came from Burgess observations of various American cities, especially Chicago. Burgess model assumes a relationship between the socio economic status of households and the distance from the Central Business District. The further from the district, the better the quality of housing, but the longer the commuting time. Making this Accessing better housing is done at the expense of longer commuting times and costs as well. According to Burgess, urban growth is a process of expansion and reconversion of land uses, with a tendency of each inner zone to expand in the outer zone. According to Burgess theory, a large cityis divided in six concentric zones, Burgess s model has its cons according to critics. It is said to be a product of its time. That is, it won t work the same with present cities. The model was developed when American cities were growing very fast and when motorized transportation was still uncommon as most people used public transit. Thus the concept cannot be applied to those from the second half to the twentieth century where highways have enabled urban development to escape the reconversion process and to take place directly in the suburbs. The model in this case was developed for American cities and is limited elsewhere. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. The Multivisions of Multiculturalism Essay The Multivisions of Multiculturalism ABSTRACT: The questions suggested by the term multiculturalism range far and wide, embracing: questions of inclusion; questions of criteria; questions of self identity; and questions of the meaning of multiculturalism. In this essay I provide a framework: (i) that allows us to begin a discussion that might answer such questions; (ii) that illuminates why it is that such a modest aim is the most we can hope for at this time; and (iii) that provides an understanding of what we can do in a multicultural world in order to illuminate what we should do. This framework will reject both the idea of toleration as found in Berlin s conception of human choice and will speak of as maximal multiculturalism, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This framework will prove to parallel a classic Hobbesianism, a universally undesirable result that will, paradoxically, provide further direction and reason for hope. 1. One immediate response by many in the USA to such questions is an appeal to the ideal of tolerance an ideal that Sir Isaiah Berlin, perhaps more than any thinker in our time, has defended. Berlin s central argument for toleration is that belief in the one true view has repeatedly led to disaster: One belief, more than any other, is responsible for the slaughter of individuals on the altars of the great historical ideals... This is the belief that somewhere, in the past or in the future, in divine revelation or the mind of the individual thinker, in the pronouncements of history or science, or in the simple heart of an uncorrupted good man, there is a final solution. (1) A second argument that Berlin offers for toleration is that we have no right to insist that all be educated in our way, unless we know that we are pure and good precisely what we do not and cannot know. As Tolstoy argued, the history of education is a history of tyranny, where each new school struck off one yoke only to put another in its place. • 17. The Period Of South Asian History Society and government in our day and age is much more secular than it has been for most of human history. In fact, many countries, such as the United States of America, even have laws built into their governments constitutions establishing a barrier between religion and government. But throughout humanity s past, it was quite common across many diverse societies for religion and politics to overlap; religion often influenced politics and politics often used religion for practical purposes. In the process of trying to come up with a topic to research on South Asian history in the ancient and medieval periods, I was very interested in this relationship between religion and politics and knew I would want to pursue this topic in my paper. The period of South Asian history to which I narrowed my focus to was that of the Mauryan Empire and the post Mauryan polities that existed in the times after the collapse of the Mauryan Empire. Thus, the period I focused my research and paper on fits primarily within the years of circa 321 BCE to around 320 CE. The leading question behind my research was that I wanted to research the nature of the relationship that existed between politics and the religions present during this time in the region of South Asia; I wanted to examine whether this relationship existed, and if so, to examine how and in what ways these religions influenced politics and vice versa. In my research I found that there in fact was a strong relationship between these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the poems industrialization by Oni and Soft Rains by Sara Teasdale, they both share the message that nature s cycles will forever go on regardless of technology through the use of syntax and figurative language. In industrialization Oni demonstrates the overall idea of human unimportance by using sentence structure. what is a human/ but a cosmic spec/ of semi wanderlust... . Humans are not a necessary part of life, the robins will still keep doing what they need to without the invasion of humans. In the last stanza, the poem states And spring herself, when she woke at/ Dawn/ Would scarcely know that we were gone. . This is an example of personification because it shows spring waking up and continuing her routine which gives an inanimate object a human characteristic. This stanza also helps prove the theme of the unimportance of humans since the quote is saying that spring arouse and did not even notice the lack of existence of humans. The quotes above use figurative language to relate the theme of human unimportance to nature carrying on its normal responsibility. • 25. Essay Against School Uniforms Do you think that dress codes are ridiculous these days? Do you think the dress code is sexist, or unfair. Are school uniforms healthy for our students? Let s find out! The dress code in the 21st century is WAYYY outdated, and needs to be updated. Let s talk about the most absurd and outrageous code in the world: the dress code. So, over the years, the dress code has gotten a little too out of hand. It is RIDICULOUS at what the dress code prohibits. For example, some of the things we have seen over the years have prohibited religious or cultural beliefs. For instance, there was a muslim girl suspended for wearing a headscarf, and also cross necklaces were banned. Another school dress code banned baggy clothing, and sports clothing! Oh and remember that new cute gray and white striped shirt you got from hollister this summer. Well, say goodbye to that, because you are only allowed to wear school colors. Oh, and don t even think about growing your hair out. Your hair HAS to comply with the dress code. Imagine being told that! Well, that s what most students have to go through everyday! So, not only are dress codes a problem, but school uniforms are even WORSE! Uniforms definitely do not come cheap. According to ggwash.org, they say uniforms are usually around $249! And also, a survey of Nevada students state that 90% of students do not like having to wear a uniformto school. So, wouldn t you rather spend that $249 on something that your kid enjoys to wear, something that will show your child s style and individuality. Most people might say well, uniforms help the kids focus on school, so they are not worried about what everyone is wearing, but research has shown that math scores between highschool and middle school students have increased by 0.01% after the uniforms were adopted, while the reading scores even dropped after the uniforms were purchased. Also, according to naesp.org, uniforms make it easier to get kids ready, or save time in the morning, but the only thing uniforms would save time for was for what you would wear, and if you pick out your outfit the night before, putting on your clothes in the morning should take the same amount of time in the morning as putting on a ... The main theory that I will focus on is that his death was because of assassination. There are many books and articles based on the research of King Tutankhamun s assassination. I reviewed many scholarly sources that describe the life of King Tutankhamunas well as the discovery of his tomb. King Tutankhamun ruled over the land of Egypt as pharaoh. He is known as the boy king, and for the lavish grave goods that were discovered in his tomb. King Tutankhamun was the last pharaoh of the eighteenth dynasty before his sudden untimely death, due to being surrounded by power hungry people which resulted in his assassination. King Tutankhamun was born around 1342 BCE in Amarna. It is unknown who his parents were, and how he received the title of pharaoh. Akhenaten the pharaoh before him only had daughters with his wife Nefertiti. According to Michael King and Gregory Cooper Tutankhamun was the son of one of Akhenaten s minor wives. After the death of Akhenaten Egypt was chaotic because of the changes that Akhenaten made. These changes caused Akhenaten to fall out of favor with some of the Egyptian people. When Tutankhamun came to power in 1333, he was wed to Akhenaten and Nefertiti s third daughter Ankhesenamun. The arrangement of his marriage to Ankhesenamun was to make his claim to king legitimate. MARKET SITUATION Carefree is a lesser known and lesser used brand in comparison to its competitors, so its important for their ads to really resonate with their target market. Competition in this industry is mainly between Tampax, Always, and Playtex, which almost leaves Carefree out of the running. Carefree products are sold in Target, Walmart, and drugstores like Walgreens, CVS, and Rite Aid. Another thing to consider with this industry are the consumer attitudes towards these products. A lot of women tend to be embarrassed when buying feminine hygiene products because of the social stigma around periods, but the fact is that they still have to buy them. So, when the consumers go to the store to purchase these type of products they ll usually purchase the same product every time because they know it works, they know where it is in the store, and they know the price, which makes the whole process go quickly. Research has also shown that kids who grow up in poverty or lower income levels are more likely to exhibit violent behavior. As more and more children are being raised in poor families, they suffer from the instability caused by their parents lack of money. Janelle Rohr quotes a journalist for The Washington Spectator when she concludes that teenagers violent behavior is an expression of frustration and an effort to take some of the wealth they are denied (14). Rohr states that Homicides take the lives of more children in the District of Columbia than any other type of injury, including car accidents, house fires, or drownings (171). This article presents a more effective way to free your hamstrings, improve your performance, and avoid injury. A Look at Your Hamstrings The hamstrings are the muscles that run from behind and below your knees up the backs of your thighs to your sitbones . As you can see, hamstring tension has far reaching effects on movement, balance, and the health of joints. Why Stretching Doesn t Protect 100% Against Hamstring Pulls and Soft Tissue Injuries Knowing all this, athletes and dancers attempt to stretch their hamstrings. Attempt is the correct word because stretching produces only limited and temporary effects, which is one reason why so many athletes (and dancers) suffer pulled hamstrings and knee injuries. As anyone who has had someone stretch their hamstrings for them knows, forcible stretching is also usually a painful ordeal. In addition, stretching the hamstrings disrupts their natural coordination with the quadriceps muscles, which is why ones legs feel shaky after stretching the hamstrings. Fortunately, there is a more effective way to manage hamstring tension than by stretching. To understand how it works, one must first recognize that hamstrings that need stretching are usually holding tension that is, they are actively contracting. In that case, the person is holding them tense by habit, unconsciously. Oddly enough, if one tries to relax them, one is likely to find that one cannot; one may then assume that the muscles are completely relaxed and need stretching. You may not realize that those muscles are contracting on automatic due to postural habits stored in your central nervous system. Any attempt to stretch them simply re triggers the impulse to re contract them to restore ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Problems Associated With Urban Noise Pollution Introduction Urban noise pollution is causing increased health risks in the population. This is due both to the fact that noise levels, particularly those associated with transport, have increased dramatically since the mid twentieth century and that a higher percentage of the world population is now concentrated in urban systems. This problem has also increased economic costs due to failing health and reduced productivity of the population, affecting between 0.2% and 2% of gross domestic product in the US. In the European Union, the costs range between $13 billion and $38 billion per year. In addition, traffic noise causes the depreciation of properties exposed to high noise levels. Studies on urban noise are becoming more numerous, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a starting point, vehicles were classified into the following categories: motorcycles, cars (including cars, trucks, small delivery vans and microbuses), buses, mini buses (small buses) and trucks (over 3 tons). Subsequently, we conducted measurements of single noise on the streets of the city (n = 533 vehicles), seeking to exclude the impact of other vehicles and other sources of noise. To this end, we used an integrated Extech type II sound level meter (SLM) to evaluate the instantaneous sound level (Li,1sec) during the approach and passage of each vehicle in front of the SLM on roads with 1 and 2 lanes. These measurements followed conventional techniques and were conducted using a tripod and a windscreen at a height of 1.2 m at a distance of 1 m from the road with A and slow weights. In parallel, we gauged the pace at which every vehicle was voyaging utilizing manual Bushnell supplies. In all cases, the predominating conditions included level, dry streets, wind speeds short of what 4 km/h and a low frequency of other clamor sources. For each type of vehicle, we conducted a regression analysis between the maximum noise level (when passing in front of the SLM) and speed. Because this yielded low coefficients of determination, we implemented classification trees to dissociate subgroups depending on the speed of vehicles. Subsequently, we averaged all noise levels recorded in each subgroup at time zero (passing in front of the SLM) and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Exploratory Paper Beforebeginning the quantitative research report, we had to had complete an exploratory research report. This was necessary as it allowed us to see trends in relation to healthy eating. The exploratory research mainly consisted of qualitative questions as we wanted to see if there was any relationship between a cupcake and a chicken and spinach sandwich. After analyzing the results of the survey, we were able to get a better insight of the perceptions and preferences that consumers have when it comes to eating and purchasing healthy food. Some of the more interesting things that we gained from reviewing the survey results was that consumers would rather eat a chicken and spinach sandwich over a cupcake. The main reasons for this was that a chicken and spinach sandwich would not only count as a proper meal but it s also a healthier option than the cupcake. Another interesting thing that we found was that consumers feel as though it is more expensive to eat healthy than it is to eat unhealthy. In the end, the most interesting thing that we found from the survey was that consumers were divided on the fact that organic food was a healthier option as compared to non organic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the fact that consumers had mixed opinions on the healthiness of organic food, we decided that creating a quantitative research survey would serve as a good opportunity to find more information on this topic. Our hypothesis was that organic food is perceived as a healthier option when comparing it non organic food, indicating that consumers are willing to pay more organic products. Ultimately, our research question and hypothesis relates to healthy eating as it illustrates how some consumers feel eating organic food is heathier, while some consumers feel that eating organic food isn t any healthier than non organic ... • 46. Characteristics Of The South African Apartheid Black Consciousness and the defeat of the inferiority complex instilled by apartheid institutions is a necessary precondition for progress in South Africa . (Crais, 361) The South African Reader and Apartheid, 1948 1994 provide an abundant amount of first hand accounts that depict the clear differences in life experience and lifestyles of the white and black South Africans. Both texts give prime examples of what life was like under the apartheid regime from the precursors of apartheid all the way to the end of a very divided era. Throughout apartheid, the difference between was black and white South Africans was very apparent. Whites lived in better conditions, had better access to resources and education as well as higher quality resources, while blacks were continually mistreated and discriminated against. Life as a white South African was usually pretty desirable and easy going. Apartheid Regnany in Dubow s book describes some of the disparities between the two populations. By the end of the decade whites, numbering less than one fifth of the total population, commanded close to three quarters of the country s share of income. (Dubow, 99) The chapter also goes onto the describe the kinds of things that the whites were able to acquire: pools, a three litre Ford, ranch style homes, and maids or house boys. This displays that the quality of life was much higher for whites, with that being side the benefits also made there way over to the black communities but they were ... • 49. The Dehumanization And Consequences Of Slave Codes In America Slaves were forced to work in the colonies and already had very limited freedom, but to make it worse slave codes was then created. Slave codes were biased laws created by the English colonies and soon later enforced to the American English colonies. Sometimes slave codes would differ from state to state. It restricted African Americans rights whether they were free or not. Even if an African American was free, they weren t truly free because of the restrictions of the slave codes. Colonists pride themselves needing to be the more dominant and supreme person. Slave codes were tightened after every slave rebellion, in effort to prevent them from escaping and diminishing the chance of it happening again. The slave codes became an obstacle that enslaved African Americans faced, taking their opportunity away to expand, improved their population as well as their culture. Slave codes stripped enslaved African Americans of their identity, making them forget where they came from or belong. The slave codes stole their voice, replacing it with the colonists ignorance and complete dominance over African Americans. The slave codes became a depiction of the dehumanization, humiliation, and the psychological damage of subjugated slaves.
