Class Structure in The Great Gatsby Essay
Class structure in the 1920s was synonymous to prejudice. The 1920s was known as a period of wild
excess and great parties with excitement arising from the ashes of the wars in America s history. It was
a period in history where rapid materialism and narcissistic ideals grew uncontrollably, and it was the
days where Jay Gatsby, illegally, rose to success. Having social classes was the same as segregation,
except it was through economic standings, the two both instil injustice within social standards. Class
structure was used to describe the difference between the new money and old money. The Great
Gatsby by Francis Scott Fitzgerald, written during the 1920s, emphasizes the division between the
social classes and the reasons behind why they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Installment plans were easy to get and people got into debt without thinking or planning for their
future. In the 1920s, if people wanted something then they were able to purchase it, easily. Buying
something had a major economic impact, the merchandise that were bought had to be made by
somebody. This was the era before robot technology emerges and most work was labour intensive
people did the work. The person who made the product would get paid and instead of saving it, he will
spend it somewhere else; he, too, will spend some of it and someone somewhere else will have to
make more products, so he will then get paid therefore, the cycle continued. The rich will get richer
due to the mass consumption of their products and the poor will get poorer due to them purchasing the
products without having enough money for it.
Myrtle Wilson in The Great Gatsby is an example of the poor. Myrtle is Tom s lover who is
desperately trying to change her life as the lower class. Myrtle is not found with the class she was born
into. She insists that she married beneath her, and tries to talk about the lower orders as if she is not
one of them: I told that boy about the ice. Myrtle raised her eyebrows in despair at the shiftlessness of
the lower orders. These people! You have to keep after them all the time . Unfortunately for her, she
chooses to be Tom s lover who treats her as a merely object.

Explain The Function Of The Lymphatic System
Question 1
1. Describe the function of the lymphatic system and explain how its structure enables it to carry out
its duties. Include what is lymph and how does it get into the lymphatic system, what happens to it
along the way (and what structures are involved) and what happens to it when the lymph system is
through with it...
The lymphatic system is composed of one way, low pressure vessels, with blind ended capillaries that
are remarkably permeable. The lymphatic endothelial capillary walls are anchored by collagen
filaments, and have overlapping, flap like mini valves that open when interstitial pressure is higher
than inside the lymphatic capillary. The valves allow entry to not only fluid, but to larger particles as
well; this includes proteins, pathogens, and cancer cells. The mini valves are forced shut when
pressure inside the capillaries is greater than the interstitial pressure. The vessels are equipped with
multiple valves (in the lumen) to prevent the backflow of lymph once it is milked towards the
subclavian duct, mainly by the squeezing action of the skeletal muscles, and the pressure from
respiratory inspiration.
The lymphatic system s role is to absorb fluid that is leaked from the blood capillaries and return it
back into the systemic circulation via the left and right subclavian ducts, ensuring adequate blood
volume. Additionally, it transports chyle, a fatty lymph absorbed in the small intestine through
lacteals, also returning it to systemic

Nature Vs. Nurture In Human Language And Language
I personally believe that nurture plays a bigger role in the development of human language than
nature. To establish an understanding of the roles of nature vs. nurture as it contributes to a person and
the role in the community a set of knowledge issues need to be questioned. These two issues are what
is the definition of Nature V.S. Nurture? And why are these two factors important for humans and their
ability to develop their language skill in order to communicate and express themselves? The first
knowledge issue of what is the definition of Nature vs. Nurture can be expressed in simpler terms than
that of the second knowledge issue. The issue of nature can be expressed as traits or the most
commonly used term genetics, meaning a person is born with these traits. While nurture ... Show more

Or art through what a person is taught or expands on each form of communication is language. They
both have nature, qualities in how to take the next step and see patterns that their brain has to put
together. Both areas also have nurture areas, with the two examples used; they receive their greatest
impact from nurture rather than nature. They are able to expand or be left behind because of how a
person is raised. He was a person who raise with the right fundamentals to help find a clearer
understanding of something than they are, better set than the person who was not taught what it mean
to have an understanding like in this case Genie vs. the wealthier kids. Or the ways to express who a
person is while also leaving room to interpret thing Picasso. No matter where a person come from or
who a person is they always need someone to teach them in order to expand that it why in the case of

The History of Walmart
To know understand Walmart as a company, you need to start where it began. Walmart was started by
Sam Walton in 1962 in Bentonville, Arkansas; the building still exists as a museum. When Mr. Walton
started Walmart he said, he believed in leadership through service (Walmart,2014). He wanted to have
a company that would succeed and provide exceptional customer services while his company
delivered a price that people could afford. The company employed people who surpassed in customer
services. Customer services was not Sam Walton s only vision for his company. He wanted his
employees to be happy. He started an open door policy, this policy states that if an employee has an
issue with any coworker, assistant manager or manager, the door is open to speak to another manager
about it. When I worked at Walmart it was a very helpful policy when I was having a personal issue
with my department manager. Sam Walton wanted his employees to enjoy time with their families so
he would close Walmart on holidays for family time and employees who worked on Sunday s got paid
time and half (Walmart,2014). Sadly Mr. Sam died in 1992 leaving his company s legacy to others.
Sam Walton s humble store grew into a worldwide corporation and changed some of his visions.
Walmart currently employees 22,000,000 people in 27 different countries. (Walmart, 2014). Walmart
no longer follows Mr. Walton s time and a half for Sundays and is open almost 365 days a year with

Government Surveillance Report
The part of Dr. Christ s lecture that remained in my mind was his input on the topic of surveillance. In
fact when he mentioned that google is able to track us, I immediately opened my phone and shut down
the ability for google to track my location. My animation connects to Dr. Christ s lecture in the sphere
of surveillance while at first this doesn t seem to connect with my project I will show you why. Notice
when you were playing the game as you moved smug, the cat, the ball followed. This is my way of
showing government surveillance. The ball reacting to smug s movements serve as a metaphor for the
way that the government is able to track us via google, our phones and various other mechanisms.
Also notice that you can trick the ball into going away from smug. This trick is a metaphor for how
people can encrypt information and use the dark web to keep information away from the government.
Also the ability to trick the ball into going in the wrong direction serves as a metaphor for how the
government is a massive inept bureaucracy that struggles to complete even the most simple tasks with
easy and swiftness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

information and how it keeps surveillance on people. The most difficult part of the project was trying
to figure out how to make the cat reset if it came into contact with ball. Determining how to do this
took the most time of my entire project, about thirty minutes. For me the most fun part of the project
was actually playing the game. Specifically, I enjoyed tricking the ball into going into the wrong
direction thus making Smug s crossing much easier than it would have been without tricking the

How Revolutions Within Europe Over A 500 Year Period
In his book, Charles Tilly seeks to determine the circumstances surrounding revolutions within Europe
over a 500 year period. Tilly begins by defining revolution and then presents his hypothesis that
revolutions stem from the state s actions. According to the author, a revolution consists of two parts,
each broken into smaller parts of their own: a revolutionary situation and a revolutionary outcome.
A revolutionary situation will consist of three qualifiers. First, a group, or coalition of groups, puts
forward a claim to control of the state. The group coming forward must have a claim that cannot
coexist with the current regime. This qualifier rules out issues between groups such as political parties
that are able to coexist with each other under a basic framework for government. Second, a substantial
amount of citizens must give the group support. If a group steps forward without support from the
citizens then the power for that group to enact change is handicapped. Third, the rulers must be either
unable or unwilling to silence the group. The rulers usually face this situation when their military
power has weakened or been spread too thin, giving this definition of revolution a realist edge.
Revolutionary outcomes consist of four parts. Members of either side defecting to the other would be
considered a revolutionary outcome as it would swing state control into the favor of the group
receiving the defectors. In addition, either the group coming forward can

Analysis Of Frederick Jackson s Turner Frontier Thesis
After the Civil War, America experienced a vast change with the influx of foreigners. Many believed
that America was filled with multiple opportunities that could transform their lives. However, due to
mass immigration many were forced to face injustices, overcrowding, as well as questioning their
identity. Riis and Turner were both concerned with the influx of immigrants and how the increase of
people affected the American land. In Frederick Jackson s Turner frontier thesis, he describes how
important the frontier is to the development of America and how it allowed many to obtain a new life.
He describes how Americans have managed to transform the wilderness little by little and making this
new land their home, Little by little he transforms the wilderness, but the outcome is not the old
Europe, not simply the development of Germanic germs...The fact is that here is a new product that is
American . The frontier thesis is also used to describe the individuality of America and prove that it is
an independent country that no longer has ties with other nations as well as making it clear that
America is unique in its own way. Westward expansion offered many the opportunity to re identify
themselves and create a nation that offered a new form of American life.
The Frontier thesis emphasizes that Americans are now free from European powers by stating that, In
another way the advance of the frontier decreased our dependence on England . Americans were now
using their skills and

The Friar s Tale Of Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales...
Payton Walker Mr. Abel British Lit/comp. 7 November 2016 The Friar s Tale Many pilgrims in
Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales held a religious position. Some of these people s personal ideas
have caused debates and criticism over Chaucer s opinion of the Catholic Church. Critics have
discussed the ideas that were presented both subtly and openly. Two of the pilgrims and their tales will
be discussed: the Prioress and the Pardoner. Both of these tales offer points of criticism in the Catholic
Church. The Prioress introduces herself as being like a child who does not know many words. She is
going to try to tell a tale as best as she can. This child like language can be seen through the whole
tale. The Prioress speaks her tale in a fluent, sweet tone. Her innocence, like a child s, can be seen as
she tells her tale. To see the entire criticism of the Prioress s tale, the General Prologue must first be
recounted. The Prioress was described as a very correct lady; all of her actions showed a very refined
lady. She was also portrayed as being very sympathetic, She wolde wepe, if that she saugh a mous
kaught in a trappe, if it were deed or bledde. (lines 144 146) She was sentimental enough to feed
animals the best food she had. Thus, the Prioress was presented as a very compassionate, well
mannered lady. However, in her tale, the Prioress has an obvious dislike for the Jewish. She relates
them to the devil, Our firste foo, the serpent Sathanas, that hath in Jues herte his

How Did Gorbachev Contribute To The Collapse Of Communism...
How can we explain the sudden collapse of Communism in Europe?
Communism was a very popular ideology which was in great favor during the inter war period but in
the 1980s, there was an unanticipated demise of Communism. So how can we explain the sudden
collapse of communism in Europe? I would argue that there were several forces converging to the
breakdown of communism in Eastern Europe. Factors such as the high expenses of engaging in
nuclear arms, the lost of their satellite states, the growing economic disparity in Europe and the
changing attitudes and values of the younger people converged together that brought communism to
the brink of collapse in Europe. The most important factor, however, was the role of Gorbachev and
his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The disparity between the Soviet Union economy and that of the United States was what alerted
Gorbachev that the Communist economy was not doing well. Soviet s command economy was not
concerned with matching supply and demand but with administering inputs and outputs. In other
words, the economy was detached from the consumer and producers. The Communist countries were
unable to catch up with globalization because of the inadequate resources. USSR did not have the
capital to modernize their industries. On top of that, there was a big gap in the quantity production and
the quality was evidently poor as well. Much of the money that was needed for its economy went to
nuclear arms, space technology and to support its eastern bloc countries. Economic problems,
however, were not isolated to Russia alone, by 1989 the satellite states had accumulated a foreign debt
of 49 billion, (Maier, 1997: 59). Economic and industrial progress degenerated further when the USSR
withdrew its support from the satellite states that were heavily dependent on Russia. The Communist
ideology began to decline so quickly that the socialist economic system no longer worked as the best
system. Against the backdrop of such austere economic prospects, Gorbachev s policies of glasnost
and perestroika indirectly implied that the soviet styled economy was obsolete and clearly failing. This
brought about

Although it is apparent that both wild and captive capuchin monkeys are able to manipulate objects
into tools, the two monkeys do share a variety of similarities and differences. Both wild and capuchin
monkeys have the same physical features and capabilities. For example, they are both able to swing
through branches and climb trees since they are quadrupedal animals. They both have prehensile tails
that they can use to help them forage for food or stabilize their balance when moving from place to
place. Not only are their features the same, but their diets still remain the same; they are both
omnivorous and feed on insects, fruits, and other plants. Both have shown how they are able to use

A down payment of $70,000 would be required, and a first year interest payment of $45,370 (Exhibit
9). It is expected that the two machines would run at 40% capacity bringing in incremental revenue of
$613,225, and incremental operating income of $234,855. The cost breakdown structure and the
incremental gains for the laser cutter and water cutter can be seen in Exhibit 10. The ROI at 40%
capacity is 33.80% (Exhibit 5), which is well above the banks lending rate. The payback period at
40% capacity is the lowest of all options at 3 years (Exhibit 6). With a score of 30, this option scored
the highest against the decision criteria (Exhibit 7). This is largely due strongest cash flow, highest
ROI, and emphasis on maintaining a high quality product and excellent costumer service.
Recommendations
Adamac should go ahead with the expansion plan to purchase a new laser cutter and water jet. The
two machines should be purchased as soon as possible. Together the two machines offer the best
incremental revenues, and have the shortest payback period, and highest ROI. The Down payment of
$70,000 will be taken from net earning last year, and a Loan for $630,000 amortized over 4 years will
be required. Adamac will no longer rely on outsourcing to competition allowing them focus on what
they do well, providing a quality product with superior customer service.

Stanislavski s Impact On Modern Theatre Direction
Although the history of theatre has been characterized by many great directors, none should be
considered as influential as Constantin Stanislavski. At a time when society frowned upon members of
a high social class pursuing careers in theatre, Stanislavski maintained the courage to follow his
dreams. This paper will begin with a discussion of the early years of Stanislavski s life, followed by a
review of Stanislavski s career in theatre. Finally, the paper will discuss Stanislavski s impact on
modern theatre direction and why he is viewed as one of the most influential directors in the history of
theatrical performance. Born in 1863 to a wealthy family in Moscow, Constantin Stanislavski was
originally born Constantin Sergeievich Alekseiev (1). At the time, actors and other theatrical
performers were viewed in Russia as low class citizens given that many of them were recently freed
from slavery and were trained as actors to entertain the nobility. Due to his family s high social status
and financial success, Stanislavski often attended theatrical performances and other performing arts
shows as entertainment. As a result, Stanislavski discovered his passion for the performing arts,
specifically the circus, the ballet, and puppetry (1). However, it was not until Stanislavski s father,
Sergei, was elected as head of the merchant class in 1877 (1) that Stanislavski truly began his passion
and career in theatre. Upon election as head of the merchant class of Moscow, Sergei

Hypnosis Research Paper
The first thing that comes to mind when one thinks of hypnosis is usually a magician convincing a
person to act like a chicken, however, hypnosis is actually an approach that doctors can use to treat
pain, depression, anxiety, phobias, and more. Hypnosis is a state in which a person appears to be under
a trance and is extremely concentrated (Brandt). It is not a new concept. In fact, hypnosis has been
used by the ancient Egyptians over 2,000 years ago (healing power). In the 1770s, the Austrian
physician Franz Anton Mesmer began to study hypnosis scientifically. More recently, it was used
during World War I and World War II to treat soldiers who experienced post traumatic stress disorder
and other mental disorders (World Book). There are some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be used to make patients less nervous before a surgery and can comfort them during recovery. It
can also be used to combat the side effects of chemotherapy, radiation, or a chronic illness (World
Book). Hypnosis can also help the 25% of Americans who avoid and fear the dentist. After a five
minute hypnosis session, patients can be relaxed enough to receive novocaine and the treatment they
need inexpensively and without medication (healing power). Finally, hypnosis can help burn victims.
These people must have their dead skin removed every day for up to a few months. The process is so
painful that most patients must be given powerful painkillers that can be addictive and can cause
confusion, gastrointestinal problems, and breathing trouble. Hypnosis can relax the patient and can
allow them to go through the treatment without experiencing pain. The hypnosis session is
inexpensive and does not require addictive medication (healing power). Despite the evidence that
supports the fact that hypnosis is a legitimate approach to treating conditions, many graduate schools
have little hypnosis training in their psychology programs (Smith). This needs to change so that more
people can become trained hypnotists so the approach can become more widespread. As previously
stated, it would benefit hospitals financially and patients physically. It is free, can treat a variety of
conditions, has no side effects, and is not addictive. Dr. Spiegel believes that it could even be used in
place of addictive opiates. More time and money must be put into research on hypnosis and its
practice as it could save hospitals and patients money in the long run and could help a variety of
patients heal

High School Graduation Rates in California and the United...
Between 1990 and 2012, high school graduation rates in 25 29 year olds have increased from 86 to 90
percent; this overall national rise is reflected in each of the ethnicities, White, Hispanic, Black, and
Asian/Pacific Islander (National Center for Education Statistics [NCES], 2013a). Prior to 2012,
nationwide standardized objective measures did not exist for measuring four year high school
graduation rates; tracking educational progress varied from state to state. Thus, state education data
collected from 1990 2012 are inaccurate as effective comparative groups unless knowledge of the state
specific previous methodologies is utilized (U.S. Department of Education, 2012a). Since 2012, the

Chen s state graduation rate data referenced the U.S. Department of Education to compare against her
national percentages; this strengthened her findings. According to Nhan (2012), the Department of
Education did not release national averages for race/ethnicity groups because several states had
requested deadline extensions for these numbers, resulting in an incomplete data set. Thus, California
s progress is difficult to measure against that of the United States. Additionally, Chen s results did not
provide the rates for sub divided racial/ethnic groups like that of California. This difference in how
students are labeled and/or reported may skew the national population demographic for each of Chen s
three reported minorities. In spite of this, her data portrays that Asian and Latino students in the U.S.
have significantly lower graduation rates than in California. Nationally, recent immigration and non
high school attendance in the U.S. contributes to the low percent for Latino students (Child Trends,
2013). Adversely, graduation rates for Black students in California reflect the national average.
Overall, these statistics point out that educational resources need to be more effectively allocated to
focus on California s Black communities and to Asian and Latino communities nationwide.

The Expectations With The Forecast Budget For Year 9
A1. Concerns There are several concerns with the forecast budget for year 9. This first concern is in
Advertising. Competition Bikes has annually budgeted 2% of gross profit. Due to the weakening

The Industrial Revolution and Imperialism Essay
The concept of imperialism is one that has pervaded nearly every major society or empire throughout
human history. It seems to be a natural consequence of societies growing in size, power, and
knowledge. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries vast changes occurred in Western Europe (and
soon spread elsewhere) that spurred a new round of imperialism the likes of which had not been seen
before. The changes were the industrial revolution that was taking place. Countries were rapidly
advancing to industrial societies producing much greater quantities of goods at much lower costs. The
goods produced ranged everywhere from cotton textiles to military machinery, all of which would
play important roles in rounds of imperialistic expansion that ... Show more content on

An example of this situation occurred involving Britain and India where British merchants exported
great quantities of cotton to England where it would be refined and made into end products for export.
This same situation arose with nearly every other natural resource one could imagine. The world is
abundant with natural resources all from different regions, and European nations saw it as their
opportunity for the taking. Another very important result of the industrial revolution was the
advancement of European weaponry. It was mentioned in a previous module for this course how
something of an arms race began in Western Europe as the societies were separating into different
empires and nations. That would continue with European weapons advancing far beyond what any
other societies could match, there is even the example of a small number of British soldiers defeating
thousands of African soldiers in a matter of hours due to the invention of the maxim gun. The
evolution of European weaponry played several important roles in relation to imperialism. European
weaponry first and foremost made it possible for those nations to dominate indigenous people to
submit to their will in terms of trade. It even opened up new regions such as Japan that had previously
only allowed very minor outside trade. With steamboats that could navigate upstream British soldiers
were able to traverse up the Yangtze River and

Delta Airlines Essay
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This report provides an examinaion of the current structure, performance, stragergy and management
of Delta Airlines, along with an industry analysis of the airline industry. The report uses current and
past financial and statistical data for the company along with other up to date material to determine
Delta s current market position and future potential.
The report finds that Delta Airlines has successfully emerged from its bankruptcy in 2005 to report
successful returns in both 2007 and 2008. With its 2008 acquisition of Northwest Airlines Delta
became the world s largest airline, further improving its position in the airline industry. Despite this

The Northwest brand is gradually being phased out and being replaced by Delta s name and brand.
During the integration period, Delta and Northwest will continue to operate their own branded aircraft
until the integration process is complete. This has given delta a combined market share of
approximately 18% (Gayle, 2008)
Effects of Market Structure
In the United States there are generally two types of airlines: legacy carriers, which are defined as
airlines that specifically operated interstate routes prior to the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978, and
low cost airlines that compete solely on the basis of offering the lowest price per ticket within the
market in which they are operating
Market conduct
Market structure can be defined as patterns of behaviour by enterprises in an effort to adjust to the
markets in which they operate (buy or sell). Pricing strategies and collusive behaviour mergers are a
few dimensions of market conduct. It is the industry norm for a legacy carrier to offer service to most
popular destinations; Delta reducing routes to a similar schedule as the low cost airlines is not an
option in the multi billion dollar industry. In order to gain market share from low cost airlines, Delta
must create a value proposition that differentiates itself from its competitors. Many customers will pay
a premium if the level of service provided is higher than the low cost, no frills

Mark Zuckerberg Vs Smart People
There are many intelligent people in the world. One would assume that all of these intelligent people
are very successful because they are smart, but this isn t the case. There are many intelligent people
who are not wealthy, well educated, or successful. To be smart and to be intelligent are two very
different things. Many students who get good grades are smart, but not intelligent. There are doctors
who are smart, but not very intelligent. There are construction workers who are not smart, but they are

Many times a student will memorize what they need to know on the test. They will not truly memorize
the material because they will soon forget it after the test. Since test taking is generally the only way
that people are evaluated upon, this leads to society having more smart kids than intelligent ones. Kids
will often get into college because they are smart, but many times they can t solve a complex problem
because they lack that intellect to do so. There are many intelligent people who never go to college
because they have an idea that they need to get out to the world. This is possibly why many inventors
and successful college dropouts are innovative individuals that start a business to help them gain
wealth. There are far more smart people than there are intelligent ones. Even though being smart is
different from being intelligent, individuals can be both smart and intelligent. Individuals can also be
neither smart nor intelligent. There are people like Dr. Ben Carson and Karl Marx who are both smart
and intelligent. There are also people who are neither smart nor intelligent like like Mike Tyson. Dr.
Carson was an individual who grew up in the ghettos of Detroit and through books he was able to gain
much knowledge and do well in school. He eventually used his intelligence to become the first
neurosurgeon to split up siamese twins successfully. Karl Marx was also very smart and intelligent. He

Essay On Say No To Gmos
Say no to GMOs For years through genetic modification biotech companies have been transferring
genes from one species to another. Genetic Modification strays far from traditional animal and plant
breeding. GMOs have helped the production of agricultural products but have ruined the environment
in the process. GM seeds are pricier than regular seeds, not sterile and have a hefty patent. Genetically
modified organisms should be banned by the FDA because they allow big agriculture and biotech

Soil is greatly affected by this, healthy soil means productive agriculture. The organisms that live in
the soil contribute to the health of the soil and supply essential elements for plant growth. Crops are

Operation Barbarossa Essay
Operation Barbarossa
Did you know that over 830,000 Germans died during Operation Barbarossa? Operation Barbarossa
was the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union enacted by Hitler and carried out by Nazi troops. But the
Nazis were not the only ones who suffered colossal losses. The soviets had over 4,000,000 military
casualties, but somehow, the U.S.S.R. defeated the Germans and was able to shove them out of their
land. This defeat definitely had a major effect on WWII s outcome due to the massive Nazi force that
was allotted to Operation Barbarossa and their failure to take command of the U.S.S.R. The key points

His primary goals were to capture Moscow to boost morale, and then take control of the Baku Oil
Fields. After the U.S.S.R. would fall, many Nazi soldiers would be demilitarized and would be
brought back to Germany to help with a labor shortage and the Nazis would not have to worry about
oil shortages anymore due to the control of the Baku Oil fields. The strategy that was used was The
Three Prong Assault. One group would head for Leningrad, another would head for Moscow, and
another would attempt to conquer the Baku Oil fields. In the first days of the assault, the Nazis
bombed Soviet airfields, destroying one quarter of their aerial army and large cities. The U.S.S.R.
retaliated by presenting a patriotic speech to motivate Soviets, and mobilizing its troops. In just one
week, the Nazis had accomplished some rather large objectives.
One of the larger events in Operation Barbarossa was the Siege of Leningrad. Army Group North
(Nazi) had finally reached its primary goal; Leningrad. However, the Soviets were not willing to give
this city up, and were able to repel the Nazis and hold the city. The Nazis were not going to put up
with this nonsense, so they blockaded the city and tried to starve them out, along with constant
artillery fire and nonstop attempts to invade the city. The stubborn Russians did not surrender, held

Creon As A Tragic Hero In Sophocles Antigone
Aristotle believed that a tragic hero was a character who makes a judgment error that inevitably leads
to the downfall of that character. Both characters in Sophocles play Antigone can arguably fulfill that
role. Antigone follows up on Oedipus daughter, Antigone, and his brother in law/ uncle, Creon, as
these two characters spend a majority of the play in conflict with each other. Creon, now ruler of
Thebes, has declared a decree that Polyneices, Antigone s exiled brother, would be not deserving of a
burial. On the other hand, Antigone made a promise that she would honor her brother and rebels
against Creon to fulfill her promise. Antigone as the protagonist of the play has a tragic ending and is
a sympathetic character, however, Creon is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the play, Antigone was personified as a pitiful character with good intentions that the
audience could sympathize for. When Creon is about execute Antigone, Antigone explains her
justification of burying her exiled brother Polyneices, This death of mine/ Is of no importance; but if I
had left my brother/ Lying in death unburied, I should have suffered./ Now I do not, (Sophocles, 208).
Her ultimate goal is to bury her brother out of loyalty and love for him, therefore, readers can relate to
her and pity her death. Her suicide was honorable and it makes the audience sympathize that she lost
her life for her brother. Although Antigone seems to have good intentions, she is a character who is
selfish. She repeatedly says she wants glory and honor for burying her brother dismissing her the
audience s first impression that she was burying Polyneices to honor him. She wanted the glory for
herself that when her sister wanted to honor their brother too, Antigone replied There are those who
will praise you; I shall have/ honor, too, (Sophocles, 213). She bluntly states that her sister can not
share the honor with her. Antigone [belongs] to Death and her suicide is selfish. Her rash action
caused a ripple of deaths, and she should not be sympathized because she did not consider the
consequences of her death, but instead she wanted to die to stop her misery. Therefore, Antigone can
not be considered the tragic hero of the play because the audience can not sympathize with Antigone s
narcissistic justification of her

Social Problem Of Violence Against Women
Violence against women is huge social problem. It is not just a women s problem but also a men s
problem. Violence against women is seen everywhere in the world, especial those who live in more
patriarchal society. We are in a world where we see violence against women as a big issue but we have
done very little to dissolve it. Violence against women is everywhere, at home, at the workplace, and
even outside, in the places in between. Violence against women does not discriminate, it touches every
race and at every age. Many violence against women are left without punishment. No matter how
small or how big the violence is, it needs to be addressed. Violence against women is very much
workplace as any other place. Violence against women is mostly seen when the person initiating
violence is in a higher position then a women. This leads to many acts of violence left unpunished or
resolved. Because those initiating the violence is mostly male who are the boss or the manager,
females do not speak up and report it. Females will most likely not report it because they will not like
to lose their job, they would believe no one will believe them, and it would cost to much drama and
talk in the workplace. Just a slap or a push is left unreported because females believes they are minor
things compared to other things. Plus, females in the workplace still have to deal with sexual
harassment. So, most little things are left unreported because, even though, we believe we live in a

Research Paper On Mao Zedong

MAO ZEDONG
Mao Zedong is a figure who is possibly one of the most controversial yet important leaders in modern
history. He is known for modernizing China from a struggling republic to a powerful world power
with the influence of communism. Often seen as one of the most brutal dictators to have ever lived,
Mao Zedong was also seen as a poet, a soldier, and a statesmen who brought China to new heights
through industrial growth and spreading communist influence throughout Asia.
Born in 1893 in the farming community of Shaoshan, Mao was born into in adequate life in contrast to
other struggling farmers of the region. At that time, China was a shell of its former glory when was led
by the Qing dynasty who did not do anything to thrust the nation to better heights. Mao s nationalistic
outlook and desire for a stronger China is what eventually led him to join the Kuomintang nationalist
party led by Sun Yat sen which managed to overthrow the monarchy and turn China into a republic in
1912. After completing school as a certified teacher in 1918, Mao heard of the successful revolution in
Russia which established the Soviet Union. Mao saw communism as a plausible way to make China
even stronger and he became a major leader in the Chinese Communist Party. Despite supporting the
Kuomintang government and the CCP at the same time, Mao eventually adopted Vladimir Lenin s
ideals and rose up in power within the party. This was

Similarities And Differences Of Exemplary Citizens
Exemplary Citizens
What does being a good citizen exactly mean? There are many factors that will affect if someone is
viewed as a one. Being considered a good citizen will depend on the country as every country is
unique and sees some aspects differently compared to others. The United States of America and China
share similarities and differences through their preamble, constitution, and citizenship. Similarly, these
countries use their preamble to create a broad proposal of what a good citizen is. Both serve as a guide
for what will be discussed in their constitution as well. In addition to this each preamble has a part that
explains where consent is derived from. Comparably they both proclaim that the power comes from
the people. The United States express the We the People of the United States statement, whereas
China claims that All power in the People s Republic of China belongs to the people. These words are
proof to both countries claim to be a democracy. A functioning democracy is the form of government
that provides its citizens with lots of freedom, opportunity, and prosperity. Although there are several
similarities, differences can be found in the format or structure of the preambles. The United States
preamble is significantly smaller compared to China s. In general, the United States prefers the
succinct version as it allows the reader to remember more and/or grasp the main concept. Unlike the

Cognitive techniques: Rational analysis; analyses specific episodes to teach the client how to uncover
and dispute irrational beliefs this is usually done in the first session until the client understands and
then this can continue as homework. Double standard dispute; If the client is self downing about their
behaviour, ask if they would let your friend think that about themselves, when they say no help them
understand they are then holding a double standard onto themselves. Catastrophe scale; this is a useful
technique, this is where the therapist asks the client to rate where their problems are at, you get a piece
of paper and draw a line from top to bottom, mark 100% at the top and 0% down the bottom, and put
10% in between at intervals. Devil s advocate also known as reverse role playing; This is when the

dysfunctional belief is irrational. Reframing; reframing is re evaluating the bad event into perspective
with them being disappointing , concerning , uncomfortable , rather then awful or unbearable .

The Penitent Magdalene Analysis
Artemisia Gentileschi is unarguably a key player in the acceptance of women artists in a previously
male dominated field. She was the first female member of the Academia del Disegno also known as
the Academy of Design. This was a high honor for a woman of her day. Overcoming many hardships
in her relationships, and even drawing inspiration from them, she became known for the excellence
and the unique way she portrayed popular subjects in her artwork. Contemporary art critics have taken
notice of her genius and talent in paving roads in an exclusively male field, and for the feminist
perspective she had that was ahead of her time. Artemisia was born on July 8, 1593 to Orazio
Gentileschi and Prudentia Montone. (Bio.com) Prudentia died when Artemisia ... Show more content

Here in Florence she encountered the Tuscan style of painting and completed her work The Penitent
Magdalene in 1620. Her subject, Mary Magdalene, who is portrayed in this painting as a wealthy
woman of Artemisia s time, is a character from the New Testament of the Bible. There is not many
details of her life that are known, but what we do know is that she was a prostitute, who changed her
ways when she met Jesus. This painting is called The Penitent Magdalene, but it could instead be
called The Conversion of Magdalene, because this painting seems to capture the moment she decided
to change her life around. While she was in Florence, Artemisia had many wealthy families
commission her to create artwork for them, and many think that the Medici family commissioned her
for this particular painting. (Koen, Lisa) It is obvious by Magdalene s expensive dress and exposed
shoulders that she is a fallen woman . Her posture also shows her penitence, and the jar of ointment in
the bottom right hand corner is a signature attribute of Magdalene. Artemisia s skill with her medium
is apparent is the rich texture of Magdalen s garment, and in the contrast between her and the
background. There are a few theories as to why Artemisia would choose to depict Mary Magdalene.
Mary Garrard in her book Artemisia Gentileschi Around 1622: The Shaping and Reshaping of an
Artist s Identity (2001) has proposed the following about how Artemisia might have connected with
this particular biblical character:
Both Artemisia and Mary Magdalene were stigmatized as sexually promiscuous in both cases on
trumped up evidence and both had reputations as sinful women ...One can imagine that she might have
identified both with her troubled character s desire to escape the confinement of luxury she found
restrictive, and stifling, and, perhaps, with the Magdalene s yearning to move onto a higher spiritual
plane. (Garrard, Mary

The first simile we are introduced to in the song is line 8. A simile is using the words like or as to
compare to unlike things. In this case, he raps I m as black as the moon . After listening, one may
think but the moon isn t black . In this lyric, he s comparing blackness to the side of the moon never
seen, the back part of the moon that is unlit by the sun and therefore invisible to humans on Earth.
Later in the same line, he uses a metaphor. A metaphor is a figure of speech that implies comparison
between two unlike entities. The metaphor is came from the bottom of mankind . This metaphor of
bottom refers to either an evolution of people from Africa or the meaning of his ethnicity being treated
unfairly throughout history. The next metaphor is displayed in line 13: Reciprocation of freedom only
live in your eyes. This is a metaphor type similar to what we discussed in class. People use parts of the
body to represent other things. In this line, he is referring to an ideal of freedom living in the eyes.

the only economic contender that can compete with China vacating all its overseas bases in order to

Summary Of Letting Go By David Sedaris
In the short story of Letting go David Sedaris speaks about his addiction to smoking cigarettes. He
mentions where it all started in the beginning of the story by him visiting the American tobacco plant
near Durham, North Carolina near his hometown. There he learned how cigarettes were made and was
also given a free pack to bring to his parents. During when he went to school smoking was permitted
almost everywhere from schools in classrooms to hospitals in front of patients, he mentions how he
remembered seeing ashtrays in grocery stores and in movie theatres which made him want to do the
opposite of smoking. When David Sedaris was young he hated smoking because it was a sign of
neglect for him, he forbade anyone in the house to enter his room with a lit cigarette and if they had to
speak it him it would be from the other side of the door, and their head turned while they exhaled. He
found smoking depressing, he smelled it all around the house which he disliked except from his room
which smelled like an album cover when you took of the plastic smelling like anticipation. It was not
long until Sedaris himself started to smoke a few years later, he explains how a lit cigarette was a
signal for freeloaders who happened to see or smell it. The first time David was hit on he was twenty
years old smoking in Vancouver, British Columbia where he was on vacation after picking apples the
previous month in Oregon with his best friend Ronnie. They stayed at some cheap hotel where he was
introduced to the murphy bed, he was shocked because he s only heard of them but never seen one, his
greatest pleasure while they were at the hotel was folding it away and pulling it out until he got tired
of doing so over and over after a while. While his time there he bought his first of pack cigarettes from
a little store down the block, they were viceroys because he saw them in a pocket of a gas station
attendant, and thought it would make him look more masculine. He talks about how everyone near his
area was super creepy drunks one after another. His father always said to david it s a filthy stinking
habit but on the other hand since he started smoking it has made David closer to his mother because
they now share a passion,

What Is Web Proxies
This is my effort to share my experiment and notes about web proxies with you.
Simply defined, proxies/servers are the application (or dedicated server) that enables the indirect
connection between a client and a resource on a remote location. Initially, proxies were invented to
provide many functions such as server load balancer, fast delivery of contains to support a distributed
system but later more functionality such as encryption, traffic filtering, redirection, URL rewrite and
deep packet inspection was added.
Type of proxies
Although there are many type of proxies such as Web proxy, FTP, SOCKs and more, in this document
is focused on Web proxy.

o All other traffic that is initiated by another source, such as curl, wget, API s, ftp clients or from a
different browser (without explicit proxy), will be forward to machines default gateway.
How to configure explicit proxy? o Direct configuration:
 One can manually set a browser s network setting for proxy by providing the Destination IP(DIP)
and Destination Port(DPort) and supported protocols.
 In this case all traffic is forwarded to the proxy; however, there is another way in where traffic is
forward to proxy based on requested URL. o Proxy Auto Configuration (PAC file) and its location in
network in form of URL:
A PAC file is a text file of functions and the URLs to reroute the traffic based on URLs. For example,
in an enterprise setting, a PAC file can define the rules such as if the URL (or end point) is an external
address then next hop is another proxy and if end point is internal address then send it directly to the
destination.
A PAC file resides on a server, and a browser will access the PAC file using a given URL.
The PAC file should be on the root of the severing server
For configuration, select browser network settings auto configuration use auto configuration script and
give location Error! Hyperlink reference not valid. address of server:port/proxy.pac
A PAC file may looks as following: function FindProxyForURL(url, host)

This guide will be useful in my teaching practice to help provide strategies in developing a
cooperative learning environment (Tanner, Bottoms, Feagin, Bearman, 2003).
The guide will help integrate technology into this multimedia project that will provide students with
fresh ways to learn and opportunities to apply knowledge to new situations, thus encouraging problem
solving and thinking skills. The instructional plans used in the multimedia project will make sure that
students have access to technology that enhances learning. Students will learn to use technology in
conducting research and in presenting what they have learned. Students will also apply
productivity/multimedia products to support personal productivity, group collaboration and learning
throughout the curriculum as well as use technology to design, develop, publish and present products
related to classroom content. The purpose of this guide is to help teachers deepen students learning
and to challenge teachers and students to set learning goals that go far beyond the classroom (Tanner,
Bottoms, Feagin, Bearman, 2003).
Cooperative learning is considered a classroom organizational and instructional method which was
considered for this multimedia project. Cooperative learning is more than just group work. Lee (1997)
in traditional group learning, students work in groups with no attention paid to group functioning,
whereas in cooperative learning, groups work is carefully prepared,

  • 2. Class Structure in The Great Gatsby Essay Class structure in the 1920s was synonymous to prejudice. The 1920s was known as a period of wild excess and great parties with excitement arising from the ashes of the wars in America s history. It was a period in history where rapid materialism and narcissistic ideals grew uncontrollably, and it was the days where Jay Gatsby, illegally, rose to success. Having social classes was the same as segregation, except it was through economic standings, the two both instil injustice within social standards. Class structure was used to describe the difference between the new money and old money. Installment plans were easy to get and people got into debt without thinking or planning for their future. In the 1920s, if people wanted something then they were able to purchase it, easily. Buying something had a major economic impact, the merchandise that were bought had to be made by somebody. This was the era before robot technology emerges and most work was labour intensive people did the work. The person who made the product would get paid and instead of saving it, he will spend it somewhere else; he, too, will spend some of it and someone somewhere else will have to make more products, so he will then get paid therefore, the cycle continued. The rich will get richer due to the mass consumption of their products and the poor will get poorer due to them purchasing the products without having enough money for it. Myrtle Wilson in The Great Gatsby is an example of the poor. Myrtle is Tom s lover who is desperately trying to change her life as the lower class. Myrtle is not found with the class she was born into. She insists that she married beneath her, and tries to talk about the lower orders as if she is not one of them: I told that boy about the ice. • 3. Explain The Function Of The Lymphatic System Question 1 1. Describe the function of the lymphatic system and explain how its structure enables it to carry out its duties. Include what is lymph and how does it get into the lymphatic system, what happens to it along the way (and what structures are involved) and what happens to it when the lymph system is through with it... The lymphatic system is composed of one way, low pressure vessels, with blind ended capillaries that are remarkably permeable. The lymphatic endothelial capillary walls are anchored by collagen filaments, and have overlapping, flap like mini valves that open when interstitial pressure is higher than inside the lymphatic capillary. The valves allow entry to not only fluid, but to larger particles as well; this includes proteins, pathogens, and cancer cells. The mini valves are forced shut when pressure inside the capillaries is greater than the interstitial pressure. The vessels are equipped with multiple valves (in the lumen) to prevent the backflow of lymph once it is milked towards the subclavian duct, mainly by the squeezing action of the skeletal muscles, and the pressure from respiratory inspiration. The lymphatic system s role is to absorb fluid that is leaked from the blood capillaries and return it back into the systemic circulation via the left and right subclavian ducts, ensuring adequate blood volume. Additionally, it transports chyle, a fatty lymph absorbed in the small intestine through lacteals, also returning it to systemic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To establish an understanding of the roles of nature vs. nurture as it contributes to a person and the role in the community a set of knowledge issues need to be questioned. These two issues are what is the definition of Nature V.S. Nurture? And why are these two factors important for humans and their ability to develop their language skill in order to communicate and express themselves? He wanted to have a company that would succeed and provide exceptional customer services while his company delivered a price that people could afford. The company employed people who surpassed in customer services. Customer services was not Sam Walton s only vision for his company. He wanted his employees to be happy. • 7. How Revolutions Within Europe Over A 500 Year Period In his book, Charles Tilly seeks to determine the circumstances surrounding revolutions within Europe over a 500 year period. Tilly begins by defining revolution and then presents his hypothesis that revolutions stem from the state s actions. According to the author, a revolution consists of two parts, each broken into smaller parts of their own: a revolutionary situation and a revolutionary outcome. A revolutionary situation will consist of three qualifiers. First, a group, or coalition of groups, puts forward a claim to control of the state. The group coming forward must have a claim that cannot coexist with the current regime. This qualifier rules out issues between groups such as political parties that are able to coexist with each other under a basic framework for government. Second, a substantial amount of citizens must give the group support. If a group steps forward without support from the citizens then the power for that group to enact change is handicapped. Third, the rulers must be either unable or unwilling to silence the group. The rulers usually face this situation when their military power has weakened or been spread too thin, giving this definition of revolution a realist edge. Revolutionary outcomes consist of four parts. Members of either side defecting to the other would be considered a revolutionary outcome as it would swing state control into the favor of the group receiving the defectors. In addition, either the group coming forward can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Payton Walker Mr. Abel British Lit/comp. 7 November 2016 The Friar s Tale Many pilgrims in Geoffrey Chaucer s Canterbury Tales held a religious position. Some of these people s personal ideas have caused debates and criticism over Chaucer s opinion of the Catholic Church. Critics have discussed the ideas that were presented both subtly and openly. Two of the pilgrims and their tales will be discussed: the Prioress and the Pardoner. Both of these tales offer points of criticism in the Catholic Church. The Prioress introduces herself as being like a child who does not know many words. She is going to try to tell a tale as best as she can. This child like language can be seen through the whole tale. The Prioress speaks her tale in a fluent, sweet tone. Her innocence, like a child s, can be seen as she tells her tale. To see the entire criticism of the Prioress s tale, the General Prologue must first be recounted. The Prioress was described as a very correct lady; all of her actions showed a very refined lady. She was also portrayed as being very sympathetic, She wolde wepe, if that she saugh a mous kaught in a trappe, if it were deed or bledde. (lines 144 146) She was sentimental enough to feed animals the best food she had. Thus, the Prioress was presented as a very compassionate, well mannered lady. Communism was a very popular ideology which was in great favor during the inter war period but in the 1980s, there was an unanticipated demise of Communism. So how can we explain the sudden collapse of communism in Europe? I would argue that there were several forces converging to the breakdown of communism in Eastern Europe. Factors such as the high expenses of engaging in nuclear arms, the lost of their satellite states, the growing economic disparity in Europe and the changing attitudes and values of the younger people converged together that brought communism to the brink of collapse in Europe. The disparity between the Soviet Union economy and that of the United States was what alerted Gorbachev that the Communist economy was not doing well. Soviet s command economy was not concerned with matching supply and demand but with administering inputs and outputs. In other words, the economy was detached from the consumer and producers. The Communist countries were unable to catch up with globalization because of the inadequate resources. USSR did not have the capital to modernize their industries. On top of that, there was a big gap in the quantity production and the quality was evidently poor as well. Much of the money that was needed for its economy went to nuclear arms, space technology and to support its eastern bloc countries. Economic problems, however, were not isolated to Russia alone, by 1989 the satellite states had accumulated a foreign debt of 49 billion, (Maier, 1997: 59). Economic and industrial progress degenerated further when the USSR withdrew its support from the satellite states that were heavily dependent on Russia. The Communist ideology began to decline so quickly that the socialist economic system no longer worked as the best system. Against the backdrop of such austere economic prospects, Gorbachev s policies of glasnost and perestroika indirectly implied that the soviet styled economy was obsolete and clearly failing. • 18. Stanislavski s Impact On Modern Theatre Direction Although the history of theatre has been characterized by many great directors, none should be considered as influential as Constantin Stanislavski. At a time when society frowned upon members of a high social class pursuing careers in theatre, Stanislavski maintained the courage to follow his dreams. This paper will begin with a discussion of the early years of Stanislavski s life, followed by a review of Stanislavski s career in theatre. Finally, the paper will discuss Stanislavski s impact on modern theatre direction and why he is viewed as one of the most influential directors in the history of theatrical performance. Born in 1863 to a wealthy family in Moscow, Constantin Stanislavski was originally born Constantin Sergeievich Alekseiev (1). At the time, actors and other theatrical performers were viewed in Russia as low class citizens given that many of them were recently freed from slavery and were trained as actors to entertain the nobility. Due to his family s high social status and financial success, Stanislavski often attended theatrical performances and other performing arts shows as entertainment. As a result, Stanislavski discovered his passion for the performing arts, specifically the circus, the ballet, and puppetry (1). After a five minute hypnosis session, patients can be relaxed enough to receive novocaine and the treatment they need inexpensively and without medication (healing power). Finally, hypnosis can help burn victims. These people must have their dead skin removed every day for up to a few months. According to Nhan (2012), the Department of Education did not release national averages for race/ethnicity groups because several states had requested deadline extensions for these numbers, resulting in an incomplete data set. Thus, California s progress is difficult to measure against that of the United States. Additionally, Chen s results did not provide the rates for sub divided racial/ethnic groups like that of California. This difference in how students are labeled and/or reported may skew the national population demographic for each of Chen s three reported minorities. In spite of this, her data portrays that Asian and Latino students in the U.S. have significantly lower graduation rates than in California. Nationally, recent immigration and non high school attendance in the U.S. contributes to the low percent for Latino students (Child Trends, 2013). An example of this situation occurred involving Britain and India where British merchants exported great quantities of cotton to England where it would be refined and made into end products for export. This same situation arose with nearly every other natural resource one could imagine. The world is abundant with natural resources all from different regions, and European nations saw it as their opportunity for the taking. Another very important result of the industrial revolution was the advancement of European weaponry. It was mentioned in a previous module for this course how something of an arms race began in Western Europe as the societies were separating into different empires and nations. That would continue with European weapons advancing far beyond what any other societies could match, there is even the example of a small number of British soldiers defeating thousands of African soldiers in a matter of hours due to the invention of the maxim gun. The evolution of European weaponry played several important roles in relation to imperialism. European weaponry first and foremost made it possible for those nations to dominate indigenous people to submit to their will in terms of trade. It even opened up new regions such as Japan that had previously only allowed very minor outside trade. Delta Airlines Essay EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This report provides an examinaion of the current structure, performance, stragergy and management of Delta Airlines, along with an industry analysis of the airline industry. The report uses current and past financial and statistical data for the company along with other up to date material to determine Delta s current market position and future potential. The report finds that Delta Airlines has successfully emerged from its bankruptcy in 2005 to report successful returns in both 2007 and 2008. The Northwest brand is gradually being phased out and being replaced by Delta s name and brand. During the integration period, Delta and Northwest will continue to operate their own branded aircraft until the integration process is complete. This has given delta a combined market share of approximately 18% (Gayle, 2008) Effects of Market Structure In the United States there are generally two types of airlines: legacy carriers, which are defined as airlines that specifically operated interstate routes prior to the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978, and low cost airlines that compete solely on the basis of offering the lowest price per ticket within the market in which they are operating Market conduct Market structure can be defined as patterns of behaviour by enterprises in an effort to adjust to the markets in which they operate (buy or sell). Pricing strategies and collusive behaviour mergers are a few dimensions of market conduct. It is the industry norm for a legacy carrier to offer service to most popular destinations; Delta reducing routes to a similar schedule as the low cost airlines is not an option in the multi billion dollar industry. In order to gain market share from low cost airlines, Delta must create a value proposition that differentiates itself from its competitors. Overcoming many hardships in her relationships, and even drawing inspiration from them, she became known for the excellence and the unique way she portrayed popular subjects in her artwork. Here in Florence she encountered the Tuscan style of painting and completed her work The Penitent Magdalene in 1620. Her subject, Mary Magdalene, who is portrayed in this painting as a wealthy woman of Artemisia s time, is a character from the New Testament of the Bible. There is not many details of her life that are known, but what we do know is that she was a prostitute, who changed her ways when she met Jesus. This painting is called The Penitent Magdalene, but it could instead be called The Conversion of Magdalene, because this painting seems to capture the moment she decided to change her life around. While she was in Florence, Artemisia had many wealthy families commission her to create artwork for them, and many think that the Medici family commissioned her for this particular painting. (Koen, Lisa) It is obvious by Magdalene s expensive dress and exposed shoulders that she is a fallen woman . Her posture also shows her penitence, and the jar of ointment in the bottom right hand corner is a signature attribute of Magdalene. Artemisia s skill with her medium is apparent is the rich texture of Magdalen s garment, and in the contrast between her and the background. There are a few theories as to why Artemisia would choose to depict Mary Magdalene. Mary Garrard in her book Artemisia Gentileschi Around 1622: The Shaping and Reshaping of an Artist s Identity (2001) has proposed the following about how Artemisia might have connected with this particular biblical character: Both Artemisia and Mary Magdalene were stigmatized as sexually promiscuous in both cases on trumped up evidence and both had reputations as sinful women ...One can imagine that she might have identified both with her troubled character s desire to escape the confinement of luxury she found restrictive, and stifling, and, perhaps, with the Magdalene s yearning to move onto a higher spiritual plane. During when he went to school smoking was permitted almost everywhere from schools in classrooms to hospitals in front of patients, he mentions how he remembered seeing ashtrays in grocery stores and in movie theatres which made him want to do the opposite of smoking. When David Sedaris was young he hated smoking because it was a sign of neglect for him, he forbade anyone in the house to enter his room with a lit cigarette and if they had to speak it him it would be from the other side of the door, and their head turned while they exhaled. He found smoking depressing, he smelled it all around the house which he disliked except from his room which smelled like an album cover when you took of the plastic smelling like anticipation. It was not long until Sedaris himself started to smoke a few years later, he explains how a lit cigarette was a signal for freeloaders who happened to see or smell it. The first time David was hit on he was twenty years old smoking in Vancouver, British Columbia where he was on vacation after picking apples the previous month in Oregon with his best friend Ronnie. They stayed at some cheap hotel where he was introduced to the murphy bed, he was shocked because he s only heard of them but never seen one, his greatest pleasure while they were at the hotel was folding it away and pulling it out until he got tired of doing so over and over after a while. While his time there he bought his first of pack cigarettes from a little store down the block, they were viceroys because he saw them in a pocket of a gas station attendant, and thought it would make him look more masculine. He talks about how everyone near his area was super creepy drunks one after another. His father always said to david it s a filthy stinking habit but on the other hand since he started smoking it has made David closer to his mother because they now share a passion, ... • 42. What Is Web Proxies This is my effort to share my experiment and notes about web proxies with you. Simply defined, proxies/servers are the application (or dedicated server) that enables the indirect connection between a client and a resource on a remote location. Initially, proxies were invented to provide many functions such as server load balancer, fast delivery of contains to support a distributed system but later more functionality such as encryption, traffic filtering, redirection, URL rewrite and deep packet inspection was added. Type of proxies Although there are many type of proxies such as Web proxy, FTP, SOCKs and more, in this document is focused on Web proxy. Web Proxy The most popular proxies over the internet are Web proxies those were built ... How to configure explicit proxy? o Direct configuration:  One can manually set a browser s network setting for proxy by providing the Destination IP(DIP) and Destination Port(DPort) and supported protocols.  In this case all traffic is forwarded to the proxy; however, there is another way in where traffic is forward to proxy based on requested URL. o Proxy Auto Configuration (PAC file) and its location in network in form of URL: A PAC file is a text file of functions and the URLs to reroute the traffic based on URLs. For example, in an enterprise setting, a PAC file can define the rules such as if the URL (or end point) is an external address then next hop is another proxy and if end point is internal address then send it directly to the destination. A PAC file resides on a server, and a browser will access the PAC file using a given URL. The PAC file should be on the root of the severing server For configuration, select browser network settings auto configuration use auto configuration script and give location Error! Hyperlink reference not valid. address of server:port/proxy.pac A PAC file may looks as following: function FindProxyForURL(url, host) { if (!shExpMatch(url, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Collaborative learning is a method of teaching and learning in which student teams will work together to create a meaningful multimedia project. Cooperative learning, which will be the primary focus of this paper, is a specific kind of collaborative learning. In cooperative learning, students work together in small groups on a structured activity. Cooperative groups will work face to face and will learn to work as a team. The multimedia project will allow all students to benefit from gaining a deeper knowledge of the multimedia matters through communication with their peers and building relationships among their peers of different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This guide will be useful in my teaching practice to help provide strategies in developing a cooperative learning environment (Tanner, Bottoms, Feagin, Bearman, 2003). The guide will help integrate technology into this multimedia project that will provide students with fresh ways to learn and opportunities to apply knowledge to new situations, thus encouraging problem solving and thinking skills. The instructional plans used in the multimedia project will make sure that students have access to technology that enhances learning. Students will learn to use technology in conducting research and in presenting what they have learned. Students will also apply productivity/multimedia products to support personal productivity, group collaboration and learning throughout the curriculum as well as use technology to design, develop, publish and present products related to classroom content. The purpose of this guide is to help teachers deepen students learning and to challenge teachers and students to set learning goals that go far beyond the classroom (Tanner, Bottoms, Feagin, Bearman, 2003). Cooperative learning is considered a classroom organizational and instructional method which was considered for this multimedia project. Cooperative learning is more than just group work. Lee (1997) in traditional group learning, students work in groups with no attention paid to group functioning, whereas in cooperative learning, groups work is carefully prepared, ...
