Essay on The Second Vatican Council
The Second Vatican Council
The Second Vatican Council, or Vatican II as it is often called, was an Ecumenical Council, (which
means it affected the worldwide Christian community) of the Roman Catholic Church. It began on
October 11, 1962 under, Pope John XXIII with over two thousand attendants (Hollis 23). The
council ended on December 8, 1965, with Pope Paul VI presiding over the council due to the death
of Pope John XXIII in 1963. The council consisted of four different sessions convening in the fall of
the four years during which the council took place. Topics discussed and debated throughout the
council were issues concerning the church, the liturgy, revelation and scripture, and the clergy.
The general sessions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Until Vatican II the Church was split into may different factions and each was set in its own belief
that they were the one true church. After the council however, compromises and cooperation began
to develop between the many denominations toward building the Christian community as a whole.
Official documents concerning the liturgy and social communication were adopted during this
session. The third session began on September 14, 1964 and ended on November 21, 1964
(Rynne 291). A select few religious and lay women were invited to this third session in order to
incorporate different sections of the church. Ecumenism, Eastern Rite churches, and the
constitution of the Church, missions, and ministries of priests were such topics discusses during
this period. The fourth and last, period began on September 14, 1965 and ended on December 8,
1965 (Rynne 450). Issues considered during this period included education, laity (distinguished
people not of the clergy), bishops, and religious orders. At the close of the council, the pope
declared a jubilee, and asked Catholics to read and study the constitutions and decrees of the
council and apply them to their spiritual lives.
Changes occurred in various categories throughout the whole council. One of the more dramatic
changes that occurred in the church, is the vernacular used during mass. Until Vatican II, the mass
had been traditionally spoken in Latin, but afterwards was allowed to be spoken in the

Euthanasia Should Not Be Legal
What is euthanasia? Euthanasia is defined as the deliberate act of killing of a person who is
suffering from a terminal disease, which therefore ends their pain and suffering. This practice is
often known as a mercy killing. What makes voluntary euthanasia different from euthanasia?
Voluntary euthanasiacan be described as a mercy killing made at the request of the patient to end
their life in a manner that minimizes further pain and discomfort.
While the practice remains controversial universally, it begs the question, should a terminally ill
patient or a patient with a low quality of life due to chronic pain be allowed to die on their terms? I
will show how a utilitarian would argue that the suffering endured by the ... Show more content on

But, the fact remains that euthanasia is still considered murder in most regions. Therefore, in this
context, it seems that the utilitarian intent is overshadowed by the dark reality of death and criminal
charges. There are limits to quantifying happiness or suffering to measure the quality of one s
life. If one ends their life, then there is no practical relevance because the dead do not feel
happiness or suffering (Singer, 2003, p. 529). Jojo Moyes wrote the book Me Before You that
was later turned into a film that tells the tale of the once vibrant, charismatic, and wild Will
Traynor, whose zest for life was altered by a freak accident that left him an angry, emotionally
barren quadriplegic determined to end his self perceived meaningless, pain filled life. Desperate
to save her son, Will s mother hires Louisa Clark to be his caretaker. His mother s hope is that
Louisa can show will that his life is still worth living. When Louisa discovers that it is Will s
intention to go to Switzerland to end his life, she is determined to change his mind, despite the
happy moments, Will cannot be dissuaded. With his parents and Louisa at his bedside, Will
gazes out the window of the suite and peacefully dies (Moyes, 2012). The story is the perfect
example of a made for Hollywood movie that inspires people to consider voluntary euthanasia as
an alternative to palliative care. The book and film are well written and

Homeland Security Essay
Since the attacks on September 11th, 2001, intelligence activities has been one of the most
controversial issues facing this country with one of the most controversial being the Department of

This involved building a new transmission line, refurbishing of the oldest generating plant,
improving operating efficiency at all plants, and buying a majority share in a coal burning plant

nuclear plant availability had risen to 83% (industry average: 70%), and fossil fuel plant
availability risen to 89% (Industry average: 83%).
These expenditures are funded through internal profits and by issuing $3.7 billion of long term
debt and $1.9 billion common stock. Headcount reduced by 30% while operating and maintenance
expense reduced from 1.82/kWh to 1.61/kWh from 1990 to 1993. As a result FPL became the
largest utility in Florida by 1994 (fourth largest in the country).
Financially 1993 was a record year: FPL s capital expenditure was expected to decline by 33% over

Women s Impact On Women
However, after 15 years, male lawyers were shown to earn 55 percent more than their female
counterparts. The study concluded that this massive pay discrepancy is due to women taking
extensive time off due to caring for children. Ultimately, what this study shows is that men who
have children do not earn any less because of it. Yet women who have children, who work in the
same fields as these men, do suffer. Research done in countries with paid maternity leave, and
American companies who offer paid leave, show that when women have access to paid maternity
leave, a year later they work more with higher earnings. Women who would like to work but do not
have access to leave or affordable childcare are tasked with an undue burden that prevents them
from earning as much as their male career equivalents. In the end, both genders are parents, but it is
the consequences that women face from motherhood that makes paid family benefits a gendered
issue.
Due to these consequences pushed upon women for being biologically tasked with carrying
children, paid leave for mothers to create equal opportunity for both genders. This is especially
for low income women, as paid leave assures they are able to survive financially while having a
child, as motherhood is not a reason a woman should have to take on excess credit card debt.
Additionally, paid leave is important to all women, as careers should not be stopped in their tracks
involuntarily due to motherhood. Yet paid leave, which

The Between Science And Christianity
I remember it well as if it were yesterday, but it over 40 years ago when I walked into Dr. E s.
Office asking for his opinion about something; that I needed help having to do with correctly
responding to the interrelationship between Science and Christianity. I had my own
discernment and interpretation on this topic, but I wanted a practical, realistic way to approach
this discussion when asked, even if it was a couple days later, or during a confirmation class.
Though I did not have Dr. E as a professor, or took one of his courses in geology, I knew that he
could help me in a constructive way. Dr. E. was my mentor and sponsor and he was always
receptive to anything that I had to ask whether it was a simple or complex question of the day. On
that day, I wanted to know his understanding of Gods creation of science, its separation from, but
more so to its correlation to the theology of Christianity. At times, I was puzzled by some people s
insistence that the two shall never meet. Where I was coming from the standpoint and still hold
true, that Jesus, Son of God is the Great Physician as recounted in the healings parables and based
and John 5:1 9. I also believed and have no problem seeing that science and medical advances
were beneficial and true blessings from God. Another vital point of understanding that I base this
reflection upon is the profound belief that that God works his power and purpose through the
means of science as wisdom and hard work is expressed

IBM is constantly re assessing and clarifying its business practices to meet with the rapid changes
in the industry. No set of guidelines should ever be considered the absolute last word under all
circumstances. The Chief Executive Officer and senior executives are responsible for setting
standards of business ethics and overseeing compliance with these standards. It is an individual
employee s responsibility to comply with these standards.
In 1999, IBM was ranked number one in business ethics according to Business Ethics Corporate
Social Responsibility Report. IBM dropped from its top position to number 5 in 2000. This was
largely due to its mishandling of the change from a defined benefit to a cash balance pension
plan, which drew widespread employee outrage. The switch cost some older employees as mush
as 50 percent of their pension, while it saved the company an estimated $200 million. The
company did agree to offer more employees a choice of plan, but the unpopular move is still a
blot upon IBM s otherwise positive leadership in the area of employee relations. (Business Ethics

My Key Point For Success
Success is defined as the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. There is different techniques
people use to make sure they reach success. I have read some stories that all have dealt with
someone aiming for success. The stories I read are A Right To Choose Single Sex Education,
Next Term, We ll Mash You, Raising Smart Kids, A Walk To The Jetty, and ILE. There are four
techniques I use to be successful. The first is knowing my strengths and weaknesses. The second
thing I do to reach success is focusing on myself and not on others or what is going on around
me. Another technique for myself to be successful is to keep in mind what I really want and
working towards my goals. My last key point for success is working hard to make my own money.

I show what and how much I actually know when I am either by myself or with all girls. I can t

whether there is all boys or all girls in my class.
Another thing to reach success is to focus on myself and not what is going on around me. When
I was younger I only cared to hang out with friends. School was not important to me, mainly
because everything felt too hard for me. Even though I have brothers, they weren t much of a
help when it came to school. The story The Secret To Raising Smart Kids by Carol S. Dweck
talked about two different mindsets people can have. One of them was a growth mindset and
the other was a fixed mindset. To have a growth mindset is to know that your intelligence can be
molded. To have a fixed mindset is to believe intelligence is something you are born with. I was
always a students with a fixed mindset. They thought that a person with talent or intelligence did
not need to work hard to do well. Attributing a bad grade to their own lack of ability, those with a
fixed mindset said that they would study less in the future, try never to take that subject again and
consider cheating on future tests. (lines 120 124 pg. 24) This quote says that a person with a fixed
mindset would put themselves down my saying that other students don t need to do as much work
as they did. It also says that they would give

What Causes The Polarization On People
What causes the polarization on people in the world?
Many people in the world do not have enough food to eat. However, some people can eat different
kinds of food. As we can see in the picture, a skinny man with an empty planet is sitting opposite to
the strong man with a hamburger in his hand. Both of them are hungry, but the skinny man does not
have food and he looks really uncomfortable. The strong man is fat and he is going to eat the
hamburger. The picture shows the realistic on the society. Many people in poor areas do not have
enough food to eat, at the same time; some people would like to eat unhealthy food in rich areas
and caused the obesity. According to the Latest Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) statistics
from 2015, there are 795 million hungry people in the worlds (who are the hungry?). It shows that
11% of people do not have enough food in the world. Actually, the geographic position and diet are
the important reasons to cause the polarization in different areas.
Firstly, the geography takes an important role on the polarization on food in different areas. Some
cities located in the places with the bad weather, the extreme lands and the temperature are
changeable in those places. However, some crops require comfortable weather and suitable lands
to grow. For example, Rice, Maize and Wheat are the important food for people to eat. Wheat
grows in temperate climates and maize and rice crops are more productive in temperate and
subtropical climates than

Weathering is the when rocks break down physically or chemically into smaller particles called
sediments. Physical weathering is the breakdown of rocks and minerals without changing the
chemical composition. Examples of physical weathering include frost wedging, biological activity
/root weathering, mining/burrowing, exfoliation, and abrasion. Chemical weathering is the
breakdown of rocks into smaller pieces by changing the chemical composition of the sediments.
Examples of chemical weathering include oxidation, hydration, carbonic acid reacting with calcite

The acidic ground water was necessary due to the fact that pure water could not dissolve the
limestone and marble. The acidic ground water absorbed some carbon dioxide from the air and the
decaying vegetation located in the soil and formulated carbonic acid. The carbonic acid was able to
dissolve out cavities (3) in the bedrock and when the level of the water dropped, the passageways
were ready for the next step of the development of caves. There is water that seeps into the cave at
a slower rate. The acid is weak but it is able to dissolve the bedrock above the cave and is able to

Summary of the Book Hunger of Memory and Response to It.
Public or Private: Why not both? There exists in the majority of people a schism between their
public lives and their private lives. People should desire to have their public selves match their
private selves as closely as possible. A rift between the two causes nothing but pain and suffering
for everyone around those people and places a heavy burden on the spirit of the ones responsible.
Trust and honesty are essential to our society and the truth should be complimentary, not earned.
Richard Rodriguez, a writer and public speaker, expertly illustrates his own experience with this
type of double life in his autobiography, Hunger of Memory. In the last section of Hunger of
Memory Mr. Secrets , Rodriguez paints an intimate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later, Rodriguez s mother asks what Psychiatry is. His answer involves Freud, analysis, and
clinically trained listeners to which she replies, You mean that people tell a psychiatrist about
their personal lives? (183). Would that be so bad? The key to being completely open and honest
is to not have any regrets. Since the past can not be undone, no good can come from regret,
people need only to learn from it and move on. If nothing is regretted then no secrets are
necessary and honesty comes naturally. This simple idea, commonly practiced, can literally
change the world. Rodriguez goes on to say, There are things so deeply personal that they can be
revealed only to strangers (185). Why is that? Why is it often easier to speak of personal things
with complete strangers? Perhaps Rodriguez believes that strangers do not know him well
enough to judge him, and should a judgment come regardless, he does not know them well
enough to care. That seems likely. However, this implies that he believes those close to him will
judge him and that he is self conscious enough to care. Is it any wonder that Rodriguez has
adopted the same insecure and secretive attitude of his mother? Thus, the cycle continues. If
Rodriguez would only let go of his regrets, he could get over his perceived loss and draw his family
and friends a closer than they have ever been before. In Hunger of Memory, the chapter

The popularity of these films prolonged through the 1970s and 1980s. Carnage and bloodbaths
were overlooked by the media since they had become conventional (Derry 164), seen in Friday
the 13th (I, II, II, and IV; 1980, 1981, 1982, and 1984) and Halloween (I, II, and III; 1978, 1981,
and 1982) (Derry 164 165). Films in this period are, instead of having just random violence,
punishing those who are seen as deserving of it. The 70s and 80s had to deal with the
consequences of the sexual revolution and a record outbreak of sexually transmitted diseases,
so the films of the age executed teen promiscuity (Derry 165). Women are also a common victim,
as a direct response to the feminist movement (Derry 165). Another fear is the fear of the
demonic and contains such films as The Exorcist (1973) and The Omen (1976) (Derry 166).
Personality fears say life is terrible because people are insane, and demonic fears are that evil is
present in the world (Derry 166). These films include recurring elements: children as a view of
innocence, vengeance of Satan against God, possession, and Christian symbology which supports
and depraves the Christian aspect (Derry 166). This was a response to the cataclysm of spiritual
demolition in the 1960s. Priests and nuns left the Catholic Church, a newly elected pope in 1964,
interest peaked in eastern religion, and church attendance had majorly

Hollywood Vertical Integration
Those who study film surely know the names of brothers Auguste and Louis LumiГ©re. To many
film historians, these men are credited with history s first public film screening. It is worth noticing
that the LumiГ©re brothers were responsible for every aspect of their films. This meant that they
were in charge of creating the filmand getting it to the audiences. However, as the film industry
evolved throughout the years, these different steps became more complex and needed to be split
into three separate stages: production, distribution, and exhibition. The first stage, production, can
be broken down into four separate parts: development, pre production, production, and post
production. In the beginning of production, the development stage, the idea for the film is
carefully selected. Following the selection, a screenplay is written for the chosen idea and then
pitched to a major company. The pitch of the film is a crucial as... Show more content on

However, most people also know that with the spending of money comes risk. Although Hollywood
seems careless with expenditures, the film industry is actually quite conscientious when it comes to
saving time and money, lowering costs and risks, and maintaining the flow of production. In order
to accomplish these things, vertical integration came about which quickly gave rise to Hollywood s
studio system. Vertical integration refers to the owning and involvement in all three stages of the
film industry: production, distribution, and exhibition. This was first seen in the film industry
immediately following WWI when the largest producer distributor created a theater chain.
Following this, the largest exhibition conglomerate became involved in the production of films.
Numerous mergers followed shortly after and created the Big Five: Paramount, MGM, Twentieth
Century, Warner Brothers, and RKO. These companies dominated the film industry through the

Aristotle Polity
To Aristotle, the good regimes are the ones that are set up according to the principle of common
interest of the people. In the case of democracy, the rule of the poor and the majority, it is seen as
the form of government that involves the selfish good. Aristotle indicated that other types of
government failed to see the pay any attention to the middle class, where citizens are neither rich or

Native American Photography Essay
Pictures often have several different angles and meanings behind their reason for being taken.
In this case these photos of Native Americans can be looked at and examined with several
benefits and a few drawbacks as well. The benefit I see would be the timeless history captured in

now will never see again. However, there are many different sides to every story and many angles

The Ethics Of Identity And Choice
Limited work has been done in the field of philosophy concerning how identity and choice
interact. However, Kwame A. Appiah puts forth an account of identity in his book The Ethics of
Identity (2010) that sheds light on how one s choices may be effected by the identities they chose.
The following will describe Appiah s view of identity and how it influences choice, and conclude by
providing commentary concerning how effective Appiah s account of identity is and how it can be
improved.
Appiah (2010, p. 22 24) uses the term collective identities to define and describe a way of
thinking about social identity. However, in order to considered a collective identity, a label (X)
must meet three conditions (Appiah, 2010, p. 66 70). The first condition, availability, refers to the
fact that the label must be one which exists in the social world. If X is not a label that most are
familiar with or that has an agreed upon conceptualization, one cannot identify as X in a way that is
socially relevant. The second condition, internalization, states that some people who are labelled X
must identify as X and that this identification affects the way they see the world in a meaningful
way. The final condition, social response, dictates that there must be a societal response to the label
X. These three conditions reveal how the relationship between the self, social groups, and society as
a whole interact in Appiah s conception of identity. For Appiah, the individual must choose an

community and cultural beliefs can mould the reactions to these issues. For example the response
to the genetic information and suggestion from physicians after the test will be drastically
different in a society where traditions and religion determine life choices, such as India, than to a
more individually liberal society like the USA. Even in a progressive society that has had specific
ethnic groups for multiple generations disparities with medical technology are common. A study
conducted, using the national representative data, in the USA with the sample that consisted of
1724 men and women of non Hispanic whites, Latinos, and African American background. Results
exposed significant differences by racial/ethnic groups in knowledge and concerns about the
potential misuse of genetic testing. Significantly higher levels of mistrust in a physician and the
medical system was a common thread within minorities. The genetic tests can be a way of ridding
anxiety attached to the assumed inheritance of genetic disease due to family background whilst for
others the genetic test reveals their reality. The results can have a great deal of a psychological
impact upon the individual. The possibility of developing a genetic disease alone can create anxiety
within some. The psychological impact from the results revealed is another issue that society is
concerned about. A

My Experience For A Trip To A School Field Trip
On Friday of April 21,2017 I went to Disneyland for a school field trip, all the students in the
middle school band and color guard went on this field trip for a performance at Disneyland .It
was my 8th grade year, it would be my last year performing at Disneyland so I had to enjoy it .
We had to meet up at school at 3:30 am because Disneyland is located in AnaheimCA and it would
take us several hours to get there. Also the teachers wanted us to be there early because they would
have to take roll call to know if everyone made it on time, and we would leave the school at 4:00
am . We got on the buses , we knew it was going to be a long rides so the teachers decided to rent
us a charter busthe good thing was that we have had enough fundraiser to be able to go on a
charter bus.The teachers said we would only have one stop during the whole the long bus ride
and that was only going to be for us to go to the bathroom and to get some breakfast before we
actually got to disneyland .After everyone went to the bathroom and got breakfast we got in the
buses and started driving again. We had about 2 hours until we got the park .We finally have made
it safely to the disneyland parkand we had to looked for the parking lot where all the buses were
parked , we found our parking spot and everyone was very happy that we had made it the park .

California Milestones Essay
California Missions Monuments or Tombstones?
Most Californians are introduced to the California Mission system in one of two ways: in their
early education, or when they first visit a mission. Unfortunately, both methods are prone to
simplification or bias in conveying the history of the missions. What this has led to is Californians
who are ignorant of the history of the land they walk on. Consequently, visitors to the missions treat
them as mere tourist attractions, instead of trying to embrace and understand the complex issues
the missions represent.
The issue was brought sharply into focus for me recently, when I was in the cemetery of Mission
Santa Barbara. It was a sunny afternoon and the tiny graveyard was crowded with ... Show more

Then you construct a model of a mission out of sugar cubes. For most people, this is all they will
learn about the missions unless they visit one.
While each mission is unique, most of what you learn in one is the same. My first visit to a
mission was as a child with my grandmother. We visited San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo and
San Juan Bautista. Both were presented as old churches that the Indians and Mexicans came to
practice at and lived in. I looked through the glass cases and saw the tools and pictures and
copies of the Bible. The placards described what the tools were used for and where the Bibles
came from. The drawings showed Father Serra or the lands as they looked then.
The recent tour I did of the missions showed that things had not changed much. In fact, by the 8th
mission, I was bored by seeing the same tools in the same glass cases, bored and frustrated,
because that was the knowledge most people were content to leave with.
Now I will tell you why we shouldn t settle for artifacts with explanations of their use as the
whole story. California had a population of at least 300,000 Native Americans who spoke at
least 100 languages. These people lived on this land for centuries before the Spaniards showed
up. Of course, you would never know that if you only learn from a mission or an elementary
school. We are only told about the California Indians use of tools or baking of adobe

Gospel Of Luke-Acts Essay
Luke s Gospel is known to be the last synoptic to be written. Since Luke introduced Acts, it is
crucial to date Acts before a date for Luke can be determined. Luke leaves the reader with Paul in
Rome, waiting to present his case before Caesar. Acts had been completed long before Paul s
outcome was known, this means that Acts came about in the early sixties with the Gospel of Luke
being written in the late fifties or early sixties. Luke Acts doesn t mention the destruction of
Jerusalem, which is why there are uncertainty of where Christianity fits in amongst the religions of
the Roman Empire, and the uncertainty of Jew Gentile relations at the same level as in Paul s
epistles. Because of the location, it is agreed that Luke Acts was not written... Show more content on

Liberation theology and Historical criticism are quite different in that of liberation theology looks
at the idea of the poor and suffering, where Historical criticism teaches us about the background of
how the Gospel of Luke came about. The strengths of Liberation theology are that it holds a poor
perspective which teaches us about how Jesus had a heart for the poor and suffering, for Historical
criticism the strengths are how it teaches us about who look Luke is a person and the purpose he
had in writing the Gospel. The weaknesses of the methods I used was that because both were so
different they had different purposes on interpreting the Gospel of Luke. The implications arising
from my analysis is that people have different way of interpreting the Gospel, so that for them it
can give them a better understanding of the purpose that is set and how it relates to their everyday
lives. It shows how throughout the Gospel Jesus is shown as a helper and how the parables have
meaning to them. The Gospel of Luke teaches us about life, and how Jesus had helped so many,
and how we can follow in Jesus footsteps and continue to do what he has done, through the parables

West Nile Virus Vaccine Analysis
The most sophisticated way may be to avoid the mosquitos altogether. According to the World
Health Organization More than a handful governments and pharmaceutical companies are
working on a vaccine for Zika. Some are hunting old fashioned vaccines, like the ones used to
protect from measles and chicken pox; these vaccines stimulate the body s immune response by
exposing it to a faded version of the virus or just simply to the molecules from a virus that cause
the body to produce antibodies. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)
mentioned that by following the blueprint used to create a vaccinefor the mosquito borne West Nile
virus would be a cheaper and faster way around it. That technique relies on injecting DNAparticles
normally found inside the cells of a bacteria that are separated from a cell s DNA and can
duplicate by itself. DNA molecules (plasmids) have the advantage of carrying the DNA code for
their virus antigens, without being contagious, therefore stimulating the body s autoimmune
response. So far, the plasmid based West Nile virus vaccine was successful in its early experimental
tests.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Study On Game Theory
In economics, there are many subfields of study and one that has the most difficulty and importance
is the study of game theory. From the beginning of economics, mathematical concepts and
analyzing people s behavior have been tools to determine the choices people will make in a buyer
and seller market. The most influential person in game theoryis without a doubt John Nash. John
Nash came up with the Nash equilibrium, which is used in everyday Intro to Game Theory courses

Also, Adam Smith influenced other economist to apply mathematics to their own theories. The
Nash equilibrium can be a useful tool to conduct an analysis on incentives in social institutions and
also how simplistic the Nash equilibrium can be, and it is obvious to say how astonishing that this
concept was not thought of before John Nash. Moreover, the first application of Nash equilibrium

formulation (Morrison). He came up with the oligopoly equilibrium by conducting an analysis on

Narcissism In The 1800s
Narcissism falls along the axis of what psychologists call personality disorders, one group that
includes antisocial, dependent, histrionic, avoidant and borderline personalities. But by most
measures, narcissism is one of the worst, if only because the narcissists themselves are so clueless
(Jeffery Kluger). Narcissists have high self esteem both on the inside and the outside. They are
more in love with themselves than anything else. Many people are so sure that they are narcissistic,
but narcissismis more than high self esteem and loving oneself more than anything; many people
also fear having a personality disorderbecause of how mentally ill people were treated in the 1800s.

the suffering these individuals caused because of their mental illness. The Hebrews believed that all

Abstract
This paper compares and contrasts the concepts found on John P. Kotter s, Leading Change (1996),
book and the concepts presented by John M. Ivancevich, Robert Konopske and Michael T.
Mattenson s Organizational Behavior and Management text book. Kotter emphasizes in each step
the importance of dealing with human emotions and how to better manage them when dealing with
organizational change. The biggest asset to an organization is their human resources. To an

The people that are leading the efforts are in charge of making changes that should result in a more
effective organization in terms of organizational strength. This step can be compared to Ivancevich
et al. s concepts of teams and changing attitudes.
The guiding coalition should act as a synergetic team as described by Ivancevich et al. This team
should be formed by individuals who are one hundred percent committed and dedicated towards the
goal of organizational change. They should be skilled in leadership, problem solving and emotional
roles (P. 259). The emotional role will be discussed more in depth when presenting the changing
attitudes concept. Forming a guiding coalition is an essential component for undertaking a
restructure, reengineer or to retool strategies (Kotter, 1996, P. 52).
Kotter mentioned the integrity or trust factor as a main component to altering employees negative
attitudes and motivating them towards change. The concept presented by Ivancevich et al. on
changing attitudes includes the communicator, the message and the situation factors (this analysis
will only refer to the first two factors). The communicator factor relates to employee s willingness
to change attitudes because they like and trust their manager (guiding coalition), they can even tend
to adopt attitudes and behaviors of that individual (Ivancevich et al, 2007, P.69). Within the
message factor, the guiding coalition

The Characteristics Of Dante s Characters In The Inferno
Dante s usage of mythological creatures in the Inferno was well thought out, with every creature
having its own role and place. An educated man, Dante Alighieri knew, not only, how to write
worlds into his paper but also, how to write them into the minds of his readers. He uses character
placement to make his stories more realistic. His characters are people, or things, that the people in
his time would be familiar with. They connect his writings to the real world, creating a sense of
reality. Even though, we are aware that some of his characters, mostly consisting of mythological
creatures, can not exist, just the knowledge that they exist in this world is enough. Each

The first human animal hybrid Dante and Virgil encounter are the furies along with their friend
Medusa. They guard the gates to the City of Dis, where the heretics lie in their fiery graves. It is
on their tower, whence the hostile furies spy Dante and Virgil approaching. They call to Medusa
to turn him to stone and they add, how wrong we were to let off Theseus lightly! (Inferno 9.54)
This, of course, refers to the renown hero, Theseus, who also journeyed through hell and
happened to pass the furies. He had been able to escape with his life. Their companion, Medusa,
also bears an unique backstory. Cursed by Athena after breaking her vows as a priestess, her hair
was transformed into serpents while her gaze could turn anything that met her eyes to stone. She
was supposedly killed by another greek hero, Perseus. A parallel between the furies and another
hybrid, the minotaur, is analogous in the fact that they both face Theseus. Unlike the furies, the
minotaur dies by Theseus hands. In Dante s Inferno, the Minotaur guards the violent. After seeing
Dante and Virgil he flies into a rage, a rage so unhinged it could only be described as beastly or
monstrous. Monstrous has latin origins from the word monstrum which means the birth of a
deformed animal. It can be perceived as a sign as to what beastliness

The Ecosystem Of The Chesapeake Bay
The Ecosystem
Introduction to Basic Geography
Fig. 1.1
Scene in Fig. 1.1., the Chesapeake Bay is substantial in size; at roughly 64,000 miles, it contains
roughly fifty rivers and thousands of streams and creeks. It encompasses parts of 6 states, including
all of Washington, DC. The Chesapeake Bayis what is known as a watershed, an area that
contributes to the drainage to a water body, stream, river, lake or ocean. Rainwater that falls within
the 64,000 square miles that is the Chesapeake Bay will subsequently travel through many streams
and rivers, eventually making its way into the largest estuary system in the United States.
The Estuary System
An estuary system is the resulting collisions of sweet and salt fresh river water flowing seaward
and ocean water inland. It is an aquatic system where salt and freshwater are constantly mixing. An
estuary system is one of most active systems of the planet; it is a hybrid system that contains the
best and worst qualities of the ocean, river, and lake systems it conglomerates. Estuaries are unique
in nature because of their ability to be the most productive ecosystem on the entire planet; humans
have attempted and failed to reach the productivity that estuaries naturally grant. There productivity
lies it the constant change that occurs from the conflicting flows of fresh and ocean water. Ocean
and freshwater are measured largely based on salinity, or the level of parts of salt per thousand.

described by day sweats, hot flashes, night sweats, and vasomotor instability. The vasomotor
flush is considered as the hallmark of the female climacteric, experienced by at least 45% of
postmenopausal women. Hot flashes are described as an onset of reddening of the skin over the
chest, head, and neck, and accompanied by a feeling of intense body heat and concluded by
profuse sweating. The time interval fluctuates from a few seconds to several minutes. Flashes are
often more frequent and severe at night or during stressful moments. Usually hot flashes cease
within an average of fours years of onset. Mild to moderate hot flashes can be managed with
lifestyle modifications, such as avoidance of spicy foods, caffeine or alcohol, engaging in
relaxation exercises, layering of light clothing, lowering of the thermostat, and regular exercise. It

Crazy Insane
Crazy. Insane. Nuts. All words to describe someone who is mentally ill. But the thing about
mental illness is that it is not physically apparent. In our world it is easier to have a broken bone
than a broken mind. Past and present methods of treating people with mental illness are barbaric,
impersonal and a gross mixture of over and under diagnosing. We as humans have complex brains
so it shouldn t come as a surprise that things sometimes go wrong. But from lobotomies to mental
asylums and turning innocent people with minor conditions into zombies with the use of
medication ,the people and system of our society has failed and keep failing to provide the care
needed to treat mental illness. But just how deep is the level of our failure? Let... Show more

Whereas in the 60s, people were being taken to mental hospitals and given overbearing care, now
to get help is becoming increasingly difficult. In Canada the waiting list are growing and many
can not afford the help they sorely need. According to Canadian Mental Association The total
number of 12 19 year olds in Canada at risk for developing depression is a staggering 3.2 million
(Fast Facts) and many struggle to receive help. We ve gone from the societal notion that being
crazy is appalling and needs to be removed from society, to a social acceptance that almost
diminishes the importance and severity of mental illness. We need more social programs
available for everyone suffering from mental illness and understand that there is a difference
from normal human emotions like anxiousness and sadness, and anxiety and depression. Many
people suffer in silence and struggle to deal with mental illness in plain sight in fact 20% of
Canadians will personally experience a mental illness in their lifetime (Fast Facts about Mental
Illness) and Almost one half (49%) of those who feel they have suffered from depression or
anxiety have never gone to see a doctor about this problem (Fast Facts about Mental Illness). All in
all the medical system is definitely flawed and has been flawed since ancient times. From under

Responses Poem
Tribute is a poem consisting of eighteen lines in three sixtains, closely resembling the form of John
Berryman s Dream Song poems. The title of Jennings poem Tribute sets up the readers
preconceptions of a poem as a celebration, and an honouring towards a person with our admiration.
Instead these ideas set in precognition are shattered when the reader begins reading the opening
lines., The reader recognises the subject to Jennings tribute being to the tall poem . On the one
hand, this image could be thought of to be a designed creation of exaggeration in Jennings own
intimidation on the approach of writing. On the other hand, the poem is unremitting in this
approach, attempting to channel the underlying and unseen issues that remain hidden in the
shadows of our minds. Jennings discussion of her own mental illness and this tall poem ... Show

Jennings uses the recurring symbols of the mind and the ability to make shadows tangible or
visible, back in the conscious world throughout the narrative of the poem. Dreams are often
signifiers of the connotations we pick up and then relay in the subconscious of our minds; like the
imagery that Jennings is consistently referring to within the syntax of the poem. Something that
has become trivia of the relationship of Surrealism and dreams, thus giving the reader common
knowledge to fall back on as she draws on deeper connections to the ideology of Surrealism. We
could further rely Jennings references to the arts of mind and hand ; evocative to the visualising of
the tall poem readers that are familiar with the practice of automatic writing as well as, a
continuation of these connections to the Surrealists and their earlier work of poetry moving onto the
evolutionary body within the visual

Fountain Valley Research Paper
City of Fountain Valley The common public recreation and leisure service is city provides
programs and activities to the residents. In this semester, one of my school assignments in
Recreation 225 course was making program guidelines. While I was doing an assignment, I
researched fifteen city activities, that city recreation center is provided to residents, from three
different cities. Interestingly cities are afforded unique classes to residents like fashion makeup
class, dog obedience training class, CPR class, intro to smartphone for seniors, and etc. I wanted
to know how city activities and programs work, and how many people are responsible for a
programing bunch of activities. Therefore, I visited a recreation center in... Show more content on

I think providing opportunities to socialize and have adventures are a great strength of the
recreation center, because residents could easily participate new activities with moderate price and
near their houses. Christie graduated CSULB with Recreation major, but did not get any
certification to become a recreation service supervisor at the city of Fountain Valley. When she was
little, local parks had summer programs and socialized with with kids a lot. She wanted to give
similar opportunities to current children, therefore, she put more attention into kids programs like
dancing class, football program, baseball class and etc. City of Fountain Valley is providing various
sports, education, arts, and health programs from youth to seniors. Christie said she loves working
with youth and activities that she could learn new adventures. Currently, contracted classes, which
is hiring companies, are booming because those are more efficient and cheaper. Usually, companies
provide basketball, softball, and other classes. In addition, intergenerational program is a hot trend.
Through intergenerational program, parents are remembering their kids moment, and spending
time with their children. Intergenerational program levels are the entry levels, so both generations
could learn easily and enjoy their family time. It was a great experience to know that city

Fire Room Presentations
Negative attitudes and focuses only conjure up similar emotions and attitudes. Similarly, technology
and the social practices continue to creep from society into the fire stations threatening to divide
teams. In today s fire service, team building and motivation are necessary to maximize department
operations. This week s presentation focused on the impact of such activities as to how they benefit,
improve, and are used in fire departments. The three presentations that I reviewed specifically
covered one of the three aspects, while bringing up the remaining. The three presentations I
reviewed were created by Matt Halfacre, Colin Field, and Brett Schimmack.

While seeming to be focused more on volunteer and career departments that have members that live
at the fire station, the premise of his research can improve the fire service as a whole. Through his
supporting article, Eating together at the Firehouse: How Workplace Commensality Relates to the
Performance of Firefighters it is evident that fire department personnel that put an emphasis on
communal interaction have an improved performance level, and higher job satisfaction. The idea of
eating and preparing meals together as a shift in the fire service was studied through this
documented research. Examining the results of this research Matt was able to summarize that
meals are an aspect of team building and an important aspect to improving motivation. It allows for
an informal communication setting as well as encouraging member participation. The presentation
supported the benefits found in Brett s presentation and showed the use of an everyday activity to
work on team improvement. The only missing element of this presentation was a clear
incorporation of the week s course material, yet the presentation was very informative and well

The Side Show Analysis
The movie Parable perplexed me about the meaning behind it at first. I knew the mime riding on
the donkey was supposed to depict Jesus, but I did not understand what the mime was doing in
each of the episodes. The episode where the mime helps the Roustabout carry the buckets of water
up the hill to the elephants was confusing to me. The dunk tank scene was also very confusing to
me, as well as the side show and the puppets. The only scenes I understood from the beginning was
when the mime was hung in the harness and when Magnus disguised himself as Jesus. I understood
that the mime hanging in the harness was suppose to relate to the crucifixion. I also understood that
Magnus disguising himself as Jesus is like evil disguising as good.... Show more content on

I learned that the episode where the mime helps the Roustabout is supposed to show Jesus
helping those in need and lifting a burden. The mime lifted the Roustabout s burdens by carrying
the heavy buckets of water up the steep hill. I later understood after the class discussion that the
dunk tank scene is meant to show targeting those who are different, bullying, and racism. The
man throwing the balls targeted the black man in a form of racism. The Side Show episode later
became clear to me after the discussion. This episode shows exploitation, which is making
money from someone else s misfortune or taking advantage of people. The Side Show charged
people money to get in and watch the magician place knives into the box which his assistant was
in. The Puppets episode later became clear to me after the discussion, also. This episode shows
the audience of the circus leaving as the mime placed himself in the harness just like Jesus
followers left. I later understood that the man on the donkey riding along the road at the beginning
but off the road at the end is supposed to tell you to not get sidetracked by following the wrong
path, hence the man riding on a different path than everyone else.
The movie Parable can be explained by watching it while listening to the Godspell music. The
song Turn Back, O Man can explain Magnus, who is the power of evil, waking up to turn

Marlowe And Jarman Essay
Kenesha Lewis
Homework 4: Marlowe and Jarman, Edward ii
. React to the review by focusing on whether Jarman is faithful to Marlowe s play
Christopher Marlowe is known to be one of the best historical playwrights in his and even my time.
Most of his works were in fact historically true. In his most famous play Edward II, he not only
brought into question the corruption within the royal household, but also Edward II act of sodomy,
which leads him to neglect his nation. Although Derek Jarman s who is an English film director,
artist, writer, and political activist, adopted Marlowe s play and tried to convey to the audience
the reason for Edwards II downfall, Rakshita Patel, a writer for Vada Magazine did not do the film
justice in her review ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Edward II invited Gaveston to share the kingdom with him we already questioned his ability
to rule. He made it seem as if the kingdom was nothing but a possession to be had as if it s not
made up of people he has sworn to serve as their leader. The film was faithful to the text in the way
it expressed Edward s II and Gaveston s love for each other. However, the film did make it seem as
if the reason for the tragedy was because the share same sex love, which most people were not
accepting of, but the most famous had their favorites. Basically, it came down to Edward having
to choose between Love and power, since je had the power he abused it in the name of love.
The politics in the film and review were both different and underlying. The film s focus on politics
was very good because I can see it related to today s society and will be in the future also. I
definitely agree with Patel s review on the political part of the film when she said I would say that
Edward II was an excellent example of political and LGBT activism and has plenty to say to today s
audiences, 20 years after it was originally released. It remains as relevant today as when Jarman
made the film and when Marlowe wrote the play.
Although Patel, like Jarman was a LGBT activist, her review of the film Edward II, made it seem
as if the sole reason for the tragedy was because of his love for Gaveston, rather than the neglect of

The Labyrinth Materialism
Enter text here. The Labyrinth, directed by Jim Henson is a coming of age story and showcases a
metaphor for the journey of growing up. Our protagonist, Sarah, takes a mental, emotional and
physical journey which symbolises her transformation from adolescence into adulthood. Through
this film we learn alongside Sarah about the conflicts one faces when maturity creeps up on them,
these conflicts being prevalent in young people s lives. The film explores the ideas of selfishness
and self absorption in relation to Sarah s immaturity versus self awareness and knowledge, finding
comfort in materialism and its damaging properties, as well as Sarah reaching maturity and
sexuality. As Sarah journeys through the labyrinth, she is thrown into decision making and
responsibility as she finds her way toward womanhood.Sarah s fantasy of the Labyrinth... Show

However, Sarah smashes the mirror, which shows us she is ready to grow up and be mature as
she is beginning to understand the world doesn t revolve around her as well as the fact that her
decisions affect other people as well as herself.Another prevalent motif in the labyrinth is that of
materialism. We see examples of this materialism throughout the film, however, it is most
obvious in three scenes. The first time we are presented with this idea of materialism is near the
beginning of the film when Sarah s teddy bear, Lancelot, has been taken from her room, this
creates a catalyst for the kidnapping of baby Toby by the hands of the goblin king. Later on in
the film, we are re introduced to Lancelot in the scene set in the city of junk. Sarah receives
Lancelot from the bag lady as she says That s what you were looking for, wasn t it, my dear. This
dialogue, along with the other aspects of the scene such as colour and lighting indicate that this
scene is focused towards distraction from reality as well as

Essay On The Oppression Of Women In The Handmaid s Tale
In The Handmaids Tale woman s bodies have become political tools, public assets in an attempt
to correct the dramatic decline in birth rate due to environmental and social instability under a
patriarchal order. In the novel, Atwood portrays the oppression of woman in Gilead as being
economically and politically maintained by force, as well as being illustrated and controlled
linguistically. In Gilead the idea of female silence is taken literally as womanare forbidden from

Rap Music And Violence
A second reason how rap music is the source of violence is that is leads youth to join in gangs
and when you re in a gangs your causing violence by killing innocent people for money and
creating shootings in communities. Rap music is the one type of music that talks about life being
in a gang and when young people listen to the lyrics from their favorite rapper they might think it
well be cool if they do the same thing or maybe how it would feel to being a gangearning money
by themselves, getting nice things from being in a gang just like their favorite rapper did. In a

Information security:When it comes to information security, every company faces a threat of losing
important information through hackers, natural disasters and employee dishonesty. Loss of
information could greatly affect the company s activities and cause a slow down in production.
Financial crisis: The global financial crisis has had an effect on most companies in the world
today. The rises in prices and shrinking bank lending rates have deprived businesses of the much
needed profits and capital respectively.
Media depictions: Depictions put forth by the media on certain occurrences about a company
could ruin its operations. GE has been a victim of media deception and was associated with the
Enron scandal which brought a lot of criticism and loss of investor confidence. The documentary
named deadly deception aired in 1991 displayed GE as a threat to human life for participating in
testing and building of nuclear weapons (Chasnoff, 1991). Such depictions could be used by
competitors to tarnish the company s name.
Evaluation and Analysis
It is notable that GE has a number of strengths that work to its advantage by enhancing profitability.
Its global recognition, strengths and competitiveness put GE at a favorable position as compared to
other companies in the same sector. The use of business units for management presents an effective
way to manage the expansive company. This not only reduces the possibility of overwhelming

Shrek Satire
Every good movie, book, verbal story, has a beginning, middle, and end. The movie Shrek has
these and more. Based upon a typical Middle Ages romantic story, the 2001 movie Shrek, directed
by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, Shrek is a children s classic that contains a mixture of
crude humor and innuendos. The movie Shrekfits the genre of Middle Ages romance, though
slightly altered for contemporary humor, as it contains the elements such as; a near perfect hero,
supernatural elements, and female figures who are maidens in need of rescue. Starting with the
near perfect hero, who the character Shrek resembles, appears to be the clichГ©, unlikely hero. As
the hero, Shrek, who is an ogre, is very unapproachable, antisocial, and not personable

  • 2. Essay on The Second Vatican Council The Second Vatican Council The Second Vatican Council, or Vatican II as it is often called, was an Ecumenical Council, (which means it affected the worldwide Christian community) of the Roman Catholic Church. It began on October 11, 1962 under, Pope John XXIII with over two thousand attendants (Hollis 23). The council ended on December 8, 1965, with Pope Paul VI presiding over the council due to the death of Pope John XXIII in 1963. The council consisted of four different sessions convening in the fall of the four years during which the council took place. Topics discussed and debated throughout the council were issues concerning the church, the liturgy, revelation and scripture, and the clergy. The general sessions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Until Vatican II the Church was split into may different factions and each was set in its own belief that they were the one true church. After the council however, compromises and cooperation began to develop between the many denominations toward building the Christian community as a whole. Official documents concerning the liturgy and social communication were adopted during this session. The third session began on September 14, 1964 and ended on November 21, 1964 (Rynne 291). A select few religious and lay women were invited to this third session in order to incorporate different sections of the church. Ecumenism, Eastern Rite churches, and the constitution of the Church, missions, and ministries of priests were such topics discusses during this period. The fourth and last, period began on September 14, 1965 and ended on December 8, 1965 (Rynne 450). Issues considered during this period included education, laity (distinguished people not of the clergy), bishops, and religious orders. At the close of the council, the pope declared a jubilee, and asked Catholics to read and study the constitutions and decrees of the council and apply them to their spiritual lives. Changes occurred in various categories throughout the whole council. One of the more dramatic changes that occurred in the church, is the vernacular used during mass. • 3. Euthanasia Should Not Be Legal What is euthanasia? Euthanasia is defined as the deliberate act of killing of a person who is suffering from a terminal disease, which therefore ends their pain and suffering. This practice is often known as a mercy killing. What makes voluntary euthanasia different from euthanasia? Voluntary euthanasiacan be described as a mercy killing made at the request of the patient to end their life in a manner that minimizes further pain and discomfort. While the practice remains controversial universally, it begs the question, should a terminally ill patient or a patient with a low quality of life due to chronic pain be allowed to die on their terms? I will show how a utilitarian would argue that the suffering endured by the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But, the fact remains that euthanasia is still considered murder in most regions. Therefore, in this context, it seems that the utilitarian intent is overshadowed by the dark reality of death and criminal charges. There are limits to quantifying happiness or suffering to measure the quality of one s life. If one ends their life, then there is no practical relevance because the dead do not feel happiness or suffering (Singer, 2003, p. 529). Jojo Moyes wrote the book Me Before You that was later turned into a film that tells the tale of the once vibrant, charismatic, and wild Will Traynor, whose zest for life was altered by a freak accident that left him an angry, emotionally barren quadriplegic determined to end his self perceived meaningless, pain filled life. Desperate to save her son, Will s mother hires Louisa Clark to be his caretaker. His mother s hope is that Louisa can show will that his life is still worth living. When Louisa discovers that it is Will s intention to go to Switzerland to end his life, she is determined to change his mind, despite the happy moments, Will cannot be dissuaded. With his parents and Louisa at his bedside, Will gazes out the window of the suite and peacefully dies (Moyes, 2012). The story is the perfect example of a made for Hollywood movie that inspires people to consider voluntary euthanasia as an alternative to palliative care. The book and film are well written and ... • 6. Women s Impact On Women However, after 15 years, male lawyers were shown to earn 55 percent more than their female counterparts. The study concluded that this massive pay discrepancy is due to women taking extensive time off due to caring for children. Ultimately, what this study shows is that men who have children do not earn any less because of it. Yet women who have children, who work in the same fields as these men, do suffer. Research done in countries with paid maternity leave, and American companies who offer paid leave, show that when women have access to paid maternity leave, a year later they work more with higher earnings. Women who would like to work but do not have access to leave or affordable childcare are tasked with an undue burden that prevents them from earning as much as their male career equivalents. In the end, both genders are parents, but it is the consequences that women face from motherhood that makes paid family benefits a gendered issue. Due to these consequences pushed upon women for being biologically tasked with carrying children, paid leave for mothers to create equal opportunity for both genders. This is especially for low income women, as paid leave assures they are able to survive financially while having a child, as motherhood is not a reason a woman should have to take on excess credit card debt. Additionally, paid leave is important to all women, as careers should not be stopped in their tracks involuntarily due to motherhood. Yet paid leave, which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Between Science And Christianity I remember it well as if it were yesterday, but it over 40 years ago when I walked into Dr. E s. Office asking for his opinion about something; that I needed help having to do with correctly responding to the interrelationship between Science and Christianity. I had my own discernment and interpretation on this topic, but I wanted a practical, realistic way to approach this discussion when asked, even if it was a couple days later, or during a confirmation class. Though I did not have Dr. E as a professor, or took one of his courses in geology, I knew that he could help me in a constructive way. Dr. E. was my mentor and sponsor and he was always receptive to anything that I had to ask whether it was a simple or complex question of the day. On that day, I wanted to know his understanding of Gods creation of science, its separation from, but more so to its correlation to the theology of Christianity. At times, I was puzzled by some people s insistence that the two shall never meet. Where I was coming from the standpoint and still hold true, that Jesus, Son of God is the Great Physician as recounted in the healings parables and based and John 5:1 9. I also believed and have no problem seeing that science and medical advances were beneficial and true blessings from God. It is an individual employee s responsibility to comply with these standards. In 1999, IBM was ranked number one in business ethics according to Business Ethics Corporate Social Responsibility Report. IBM dropped from its top position to number 5 in 2000. This was largely due to its mishandling of the change from a defined benefit to a cash balance pension plan, which drew widespread employee outrage. The switch cost some older employees as mush as 50 percent of their pension, while it saved the company an estimated $200 million. The company did agree to offer more employees a choice of plan, but the unpopular move is still a blot upon IBM s otherwise positive leadership in the area of employee relations. The first is knowing my strengths and weaknesses. The second thing I do to reach success is focusing on myself and not on others or what is going on around me. School was not important to me, mainly because everything felt too hard for me. Even though I have brothers, they weren t much of a help when it came to school. The story The Secret To Raising Smart Kids by Carol S. Dweck talked about two different mindsets people can have. One of them was a growth mindset and the other was a fixed mindset. To have a growth mindset is to know that your intelligence can be molded. To have a fixed mindset is to believe intelligence is something you are born with. I was always a students with a fixed mindset. They thought that a person with talent or intelligence did not need to work hard to do well. However, some people can eat different kinds of food. As we can see in the picture, a skinny man with an empty planet is sitting opposite to the strong man with a hamburger in his hand. Both of them are hungry, but the skinny man does not have food and he looks really uncomfortable. The strong man is fat and he is going to eat the hamburger. The picture shows the realistic on the society. Many people in poor areas do not have enough food to eat, at the same time; some people would like to eat unhealthy food in rich areas and caused the obesity. According to the Latest Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) statistics from 2015, there are 795 million hungry people in the worlds (who are the hungry?). It shows that 11% of people do not have enough food in the world. Actually, the geographic position and diet are the important reasons to cause the polarization in different areas. Firstly, the geography takes an important role on the polarization on food in different areas. Some cities located in the places with the bad weather, the extreme lands and the temperature are changeable in those places. • 12. Summary of the Book Hunger of Memory and Response to It. Public or Private: Why not both? There exists in the majority of people a schism between their public lives and their private lives. People should desire to have their public selves match their private selves as closely as possible. A rift between the two causes nothing but pain and suffering for everyone around those people and places a heavy burden on the spirit of the ones responsible. Trust and honesty are essential to our society and the truth should be complimentary, not earned. Richard Rodriguez, a writer and public speaker, expertly illustrates his own experience with this type of double life in his autobiography, Hunger of Memory. In the last section of Hunger of Memory Mr. Secrets , Rodriguez paints an intimate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Later, Rodriguez s mother asks what Psychiatry is. His answer involves Freud, analysis, and clinically trained listeners to which she replies, You mean that people tell a psychiatrist about their personal lives? (183). Would that be so bad? The key to being completely open and honest is to not have any regrets. Since the past can not be undone, no good can come from regret, people need only to learn from it and move on. If nothing is regretted then no secrets are necessary and honesty comes naturally. This simple idea, commonly practiced, can literally change the world. Rodriguez goes on to say, There are things so deeply personal that they can be revealed only to strangers (185). Why is that? Why is it often easier to speak of personal things with complete strangers? Perhaps Rodriguez believes that strangers do not know him well enough to judge him, and should a judgment come regardless, he does not know them well enough to care. That seems likely. Films in this period are, instead of having just random violence, punishing those who are seen as deserving of it. The 70s and 80s had to deal with the consequences of the sexual revolution and a record outbreak of sexually transmitted diseases, so the films of the age executed teen promiscuity (Derry 165). Women are also a common victim, as a direct response to the feminist movement (Derry 165). Another fear is the fear of the demonic and contains such films as The Exorcist (1973) and The Omen (1976) (Derry 166). Personality fears say life is terrible because people are insane, and demonic fears are that evil is present in the world (Derry 166). These films include recurring elements: children as a view of innocence, vengeance of Satan against God, possession, and Christian symbology which supports and depraves the Christian aspect (Derry 166). To many film historians, these men are credited with history s first public film screening. It is worth noticing that the LumiГ©re brothers were responsible for every aspect of their films. This meant that they were in charge of creating the filmand getting it to the audiences. However, as the film industry evolved throughout the years, these different steps became more complex and needed to be split into three separate stages: production, distribution, and exhibition. The first stage, production, can be broken down into four separate parts: development, pre production, production, and post production. The following will describe Appiah s view of identity and how it influences choice, and conclude by providing commentary concerning how effective Appiah s account of identity is and how it can be improved. Appiah (2010, p. 22 24) uses the term collective identities to define and describe a way of thinking about social identity. However, in order to considered a collective identity, a label (X) must meet three conditions (Appiah, 2010, p. 66 70). The first condition, availability, refers to the fact that the label must be one which exists in the social world. If X is not a label that most are familiar with or that has an agreed upon conceptualization, one cannot identify as X in a way that is socially relevant. The second condition, internalization, states that some people who are labelled X must identify as X and that this identification affects the way they see the world in a meaningful way. The final condition, social response, dictates that there must be a societal response to the label X. These three conditions reveal how the relationship between the self, social groups, and society as a whole interact in Appiah s conception of identity. For Appiah, the individual must choose an identity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Genetic information can raise questions about personal responsibility, personal choice versus genetic determinism, and concepts of health and disease. Personal factors, family values, and community and cultural beliefs can mould the reactions to these issues. For example the response to the genetic information and suggestion from physicians after the test will be drastically different in a society where traditions and religion determine life choices, such as India, than to a more individually liberal society like the USA. Even in a progressive society that has had specific ethnic groups for multiple generations disparities with medical technology are common. A study conducted, using the national representative data, in the USA with the sample that consisted of 1724 men and women of non Hispanic whites, Latinos, and African American background. We visited San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo and San Juan Bautista. Both were presented as old churches that the Indians and Mexicans came to practice at and lived in. I looked through the glass cases and saw the tools and pictures and copies of the Bible. The placards described what the tools were used for and where the Bibles came from. The drawings showed Father Serra or the lands as they looked then. The recent tour I did of the missions showed that things had not changed much. In fact, by the 8th mission, I was bored by seeing the same tools in the same glass cases, bored and frustrated, because that was the knowledge most people were content to leave with. Some are hunting old fashioned vaccines, like the ones used to protect from measles and chicken pox; these vaccines stimulate the body s immune response by exposing it to a faded version of the virus or just simply to the molecules from a virus that cause the body to produce antibodies. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) mentioned that by following the blueprint used to create a vaccinefor the mosquito borne West Nile virus would be a cheaper and faster way around it. That technique relies on injecting DNAparticles normally found inside the cells of a bacteria that are separated from a cell s DNA and can duplicate by itself. Kotter emphasizes in each step the importance of dealing with human emotions and how to better manage them when dealing with organizational change. The people that are leading the efforts are in charge of making changes that should result in a more effective organization in terms of organizational strength. This step can be compared to Ivancevich et al. s concepts of teams and changing attitudes. The guiding coalition should act as a synergetic team as described by Ivancevich et al. This team should be formed by individuals who are one hundred percent committed and dedicated towards the goal of organizational change. They should be skilled in leadership, problem solving and emotional roles (P. 259). The emotional role will be discussed more in depth when presenting the changing attitudes concept. Forming a guiding coalition is an essential component for undertaking a restructure, reengineer or to retool strategies (Kotter, 1996, P. 52). Kotter mentioned the integrity or trust factor as a main component to altering employees negative attitudes and motivating them towards change. The concept presented by Ivancevich et al. on changing attitudes includes the communicator, the message and the situation factors (this analysis will only refer to the first two factors). The communicator factor relates to employee s willingness to change attitudes because they like and trust their manager (guiding coalition), they can even tend to adopt attitudes and behaviors of that individual (Ivancevich et al, 2007, P.69). An educated man, Dante Alighieri knew, not only, how to write worlds into his paper but also, how to write them into the minds of his readers. He uses character placement to make his stories more realistic. His characters are people, or things, that the people in his time would be familiar with. They connect his writings to the real world, creating a sense of reality. The first human animal hybrid Dante and Virgil encounter are the furies along with their friend Medusa. They guard the gates to the City of Dis, where the heretics lie in their fiery graves. It is on their tower, whence the hostile furies spy Dante and Virgil approaching. They call to Medusa to turn him to stone and they add, how wrong we were to let off Theseus lightly! (Inferno 9.54) This, of course, refers to the renown hero, Theseus, who also journeyed through hell and happened to pass the furies. He had been able to escape with his life. Their companion, Medusa, also bears an unique backstory. Cursed by Athena after breaking her vows as a priestess, her hair was transformed into serpents while her gaze could turn anything that met her eyes to stone. She was supposedly killed by another greek hero, Perseus. A parallel between the furies and another hybrid, the minotaur, is analogous in the fact that they both face Theseus. Unlike the furies, the minotaur dies by Theseus hands. In Dante s Inferno, the Minotaur guards the violent. The Ecosystem Of The Chesapeake Bay The Ecosystem Introduction to Basic Geography Fig. 1.1 Scene in Fig. 1.1., the Chesapeake Bay is substantial in size; at roughly 64,000 miles, it contains roughly fifty rivers and thousands of streams and creeks. It encompasses parts of 6 states, including all of Washington, DC. The Chesapeake Bayis what is known as a watershed, an area that contributes to the drainage to a water body, stream, river, lake or ocean. Rainwater that falls within the 64,000 square miles that is the Chesapeake Bay will subsequently travel through many streams and rivers, eventually making its way into the largest estuary system in the United States. The Estuary System An estuary system is the resulting collisions of sweet and salt fresh river water flowing seaward and ocean water inland. It is an aquatic system where salt and freshwater are constantly mixing. An estuary system is one of most active systems of the planet; it is a hybrid system that contains the best and worst qualities of the ocean, river, and lake systems it conglomerates. Estuaries are unique in nature because of their ability to be the most productive ecosystem on the entire planet; humans have attempted and failed to reach the productivity that estuaries naturally grant. There productivity lies it the constant change that occurs from the conflicting flows of fresh and ocean water.
