Metal Forming In Medieval Europe
During the Medieval period through the 5th and 15th centuries in Europe, technology advancement
in metal forming and extraction was becoming popular. The reason for this is because of the
battles and empires in the time periods having the desires to expand and build up their military. To
complete this task, an edge in ironworking and metal forming had to be solidified as a strength
for those wanting to further expand their countries boundaries. An example of this would be the
Roman Empire. (Source) This research paper is going to talk about how people in the medieval
time periods extracted iron ore, what technology was utilized to make armor, and what armor was
produced and how it was made in the middle age era. (Brief history, studies of... Show more content

Wootz consists of high carbon (nearly 1.2%C to 1.6%C) crucible steel. This is first created by
small pieces of iron in sealed crucibles and charcoal being heated into a cake. Then the mixture is
left to cool slowly, and exported to manufacturers. The cakes would be manipulated by forging it
into blades. Through this process, the cementite was broken up, decreasing the brittleness and
created a watered silk texture to the blades surface. (The night an blast furnace pg 11, 12, 14)

Different Roles of Irony in Fussell Essay
Different Roles of Irony in Fussell
The excessive use of irony throughout World War I literature paints a colorful scheme of
thoughtfulness and style. Paul Fussell gives one explanation in The Great War and Modern
Memory by stating that the war itself is ironic because every war is worse than expected. Every
war constitutes an irony of situation because its means are so melodramatically disproportionate
to its presumed ends (7). Writers obviously realized the irony of war and in turn wrote in this style
maybe not by intention, but because it was inescapable. Providing a feeling of sorrow and pity
seems to motivate Siegfried Sassoon in his poem titled The Hero in which an officer tells a mother
that her son was brave ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Interestingly Owen uses irony when writing letters home to his mother. In Wilfred Owen: Collected
Letters he writes on 16 January 1917: Three quarters dead, then realizing the implications and irony
he corrected himself by writing #8230;I mean each of us Вѕ dead #8230;(393) . Other examples of
the accidental use of irony exist throughout WWI literature I m sure.
Fussell argues that the use of irony comes from memory. He states that irony is a tool used to
recollect certain events that would otherwise go unnoticed . What assists #8230;recall is
precisely the ironic pattern which subsequent vision has laid over the events (Modern 30). Fussell
uses Gunner Charles Bricknall as an example of this phenomenon . Bricknall recalls seeing new
troops standing along an often shelled road and telling the recruits about the danger. Bricknall
wrote Ho, what a disaster! We had to go shooting lame horses, putting the dead to the side of the
road, what a disaster, which could have been avoid if only the officers had gone into action the hard
way. That was something I shall never forget (31). Fussell continues that A

The Importance Of Curfew Laws In Baltimore
Law enforcers and city officials in Baltimore are cracking down on the curfew for children in
their city. Recent events such as a 3 year old being killed by a stray bullet make law enforcers
believe that having a curfew can help to protect innocent children from misfortunate events. The
new curfew states that children younger than 14 must be inside by nine o clock, while 14 16 year
olds have to be home by ten o clock on school nights. On weekends and summer nights 14 16 year
olds can be out until eleven o clock.
Some parents of teenagers are glad that a new curfew is being put in place; however, not every
person feels the same way. For example, the American Civil Liberties Union believes that the
curfew might cause an increase in juvenile criminals due to rebellions ... Show more content on

The teenager in me says, No. The considerate human in me who wants to prevent drugs and
alcohol in children says, Yes. When I really consider this, and place myself in a teenager s shoes
in Baltimore, I am still undecided. Based on my personal experience, which is minimal, I don t
believe a curfew is going to help many of the children or parents in Baltimore. Therefore, I don t
believe this policy will be worthwhile. The curfew might help one or two kids seek proper help;
however I find it hard to imagine that one policy setting a curfew can fix adolescent behavior. If
the people in Baltimore are willing to put in the time and money of following through with this
policy to help just a handful of children, then I think they should go through with it, but if they are
expecting massive results, this policy should be revised. The children who could receive better
futures because of this policy are the people who should get to decide if they want it or not, but the
people who should have the most say in the matter are the ones with the smallest voices of

History Of The Temperance Movement
The Temperance movement was an organized effort to encourage people to ban the consumption of
alcohol. The movement was mostly women whose husbands had uncontrolled drinking habits.
Alcohol was also being blamed for health issues like anemia, cancer, high blood pressure and
nerve damage. This lead to the ban of alcohol, which was called Prohibition. Anemia is the
abnormally low count of red blood cells. This can trigger tiredness and cause someone to become
lightheaded. Scientists believe drinking alcohol can increase the risk of cancer because the body
converts alcohol into acetaldehyde (a potent carcinogen). Having high blood pressure can lead to
kidney and heart disease. Alcoholic neuropathy is the form of nerve damage alcohol

The Limited Liability Partnership ( Llp )
The limited liability partnership (LLP) is another type of partnership. LLP is a partnership
consisting of one or more general partners and one or more limited partners (p. 554). It was
created to limit the personal liability of the partners of losing their personal assets to only their
own acts and omissions and to the acts and omissions of people under their supervision (Nickels,
McHugh, McHugh, 2013, p. 119). This business form also allows a partnership to continue as a
pass through entity for tax purposes (Miller, 2014, p. 554). However, limited liability partnershipis
not recognized as a legal business structure in every state, unlike the general partnership, In
addition, taxing authorities in some states recognize the structure of LLP as a nonpartnership for
tax purposes due to its special structure (Scott Media, n.d.). There is also a limited partnership,
which has one or more general partners and one or more limited partners. One partner will be a
general partner and has unlimited liability and is active in managing the firm whereas the limited
partner will only invest money in the business but does not have any management responsibility or
liability for losses beyond the investment.
Moreover, corporations are another form of business. A corporationis defined as legal entity formed
in compliance with statutory requirements that is distinct from its shareholder owners (Miller,
2014, p. 555). The advantages of corporations include the shareholders

Essay about Garden State, Cool Hand Luke, and The Last...
In the movie Garden State, Natalie Portman s character is trying to get Zach Braff s character to
do something really stupid and silly, and says This is your one opportunity to do something that
no one has ever done before and no one will copy through out human existence. And if nothing
else you ll be remembered as the one guy who ever did this... this one thing. It s movies like this,
movies that are written with great meaning, that I walk away from with just this warm
unexplainable feeling. Movies that have the creator s blood, sweat, and tears in the soul of the
movie, not just thrown together at the end just to make the quick buck are the ones worth seeing.

It inspired me to make every moment something unique. You know, try and be yourself and
whatever becomes of yourself. Don t worry about other opinions or other people s prejudiced
judgments. If I could take one thing away from Garden State it would have to be: You are what
you are for a reason, whatever that reason is, it shouldn t be because others want you to be that way.
Another example of a movie that has inspired me would have to be one of the greatest movies of
all time, and in that I mean Cool Hand Luke. This movie is a movie I can watch time and time
again. Paul Newman gives a hell of a performance, playing Luke. The whole story of this
rebellious inmate, part of a southern chain gang, who goes against all rules was magnificent. He
would try to escape time and time again even after getting the shit kicked out of him, he would
do it again and again. Someone bet him that he couldn t eat 50 eggs in an hour. He did it just to
prove them wrong, even though it made him violently ill. But the scene that gave me that feeling
of wow was when he was boxing one of the inmates and he didn t fight back. He got the fuck
knocked out him. And kept standing right back up each time it became more difficult. But he kept
on fighting to get up until his opposition stopped fighting. This movie makes me wish I was more

The History Of The Universe From The Big Bang
Religions and cultures have their own versions of the origin stories, which are general anecdotes or
narratives in order to explain the existence and mysteries of the universe and the human beings. And
big history is also an origin story, attempting to examine the history of the Universe from the Big
Bang, explain the present and predict the future of the universeas well as the humanbeings. One of
the most important theme found in the Big history is the idea of increasing complexity and the
term of Goldilocks conditions , Christian suggests that the universe creates complexity when these
conditions require a favorable environment, which is neither too hot nor too cold, thus providing
just the required environment necessary for complexity to take place. These conditions found in the
dissimilar thresholds including the creation of the universe and the formation of the stars, the early
human life and the modern epoch.
The creation of the universe and the formation of the stars
To understand the history of the Universe, it is inevitable to conduct a thorough analysis that
involves a survey of the origin of the universe. As complex creatures, we are driven by a desire to
understand how the universe advances in complexity (Grinin, 2013). Understanding the universe
also requires an understanding why complexity results in vulnerability and fragility. To have an
understanding of the universe, it is required that we go back to the beginning of time, an estimated

The Role Of The Underdog
From my birth, I assumed the role of the underdog. Born to a mother who was only fifteen years
old, and later raised by my mother and grandmother along with six other siblings in an
impoverished inner city neighborhood without the benefit of a father or any other familial male
influence in my life, I have always been cognizant of what the statistics predicted would be the
likely outcome of my life. Yet somehow, at an early age, I relished the role of the underdog and
used it as a means for motivating myself, my siblings, and even my own mother, to pursue those
things that appeared to be beyond our reach from a social and economic perspective. Chief among
the motivating factors in my life was the idea of obtaining an education. For as... Show more content

Despite playing the role of protector, there was no role that I enjoyed more than being able to help
my siblings further their education, ensuring that their homework and mine was completed,
accurate and ready for my mother s review upon her return home from work. I was determined to
transfer my passion for learning, and education in general, to my siblings and anyone in my
household who would listen, which might have contributed to the fact that all but one of my
siblings went on to attend and graduate from college. For me, getting an education wasn t an option,
it was the only option, a sentiment that I relentlessly stressed to my siblings, and my mother, who
though a high school dropout at one point, went on to pursue and receive several college degrees
later in life. At the age of 12, I took on my first job, which was essentially an entrepreneurial
endeavor. My brothers and I spent the spring, summer and fall canvassing our neighborhood,
seeking out residents who would allow us to mow their lawns or rake their leaves in exchange for
a reasonable fee. While the earnings of that first job were meager, the intangible benefits and life
lessons that I derived from it were tremendous. I learned a lot about earning and managing money,
responsibility, and most significantly, what I did not want do with my life. The

by answering the following questions. a. Explain why risk adjustments are important and how they
can affect firm value. b. Explain how the single hurdle rate currently used by Northern Forest
Products can change the risk structure of the company. For example, think about what would
happen if the Plastic Products Division received a disproportionately high level of funding because
their returns exceed the company hurdle rates (its growth rate substantially exceeds the corporate

NFP will face an increase in the level of risk as well as the overall cost of capital. Now supposing
Plastic Products Division received a disproportionately high level of funding because their
returns exceed the company hurdle rates. Unfortunately, the division s beta is 1.28, larger than
the corporate beta reported by ValueLine (1.04) and Merrill Lynch (1.12). As NFP invests more
in riskier division and the division s beta remains unchanged, NFP s new beta and the overall
cost of capital would gradually increase a lot more than the current one, which later poses a
threat to the company itself. 2. Question: Explain the rationale behind using beta as a measure of
risk. Compute the company s beta based on the divisional betas and compare it with that
provided by Value Line and Merrill Lynch. Explain some of the inconsistencies that can be found
in reported betas. Do historical betas provide good measures of the future riskiness of firms (or
divisions)? ______________________________ Beta is an effective measure of risk. Unlike
standard deviation, beta is a measure of a stock s systematic, or market risk, which cannot be
diversified away. To investors, it is considered to be the most important measure. Now we are
about to take a closer look at NFC s beta. According to Northern Forest Products case, we have the

Gentrification In The City
Currently, policymakers are mostly concerned with the economic impacts a policy will have. While
economic factors are important when evaluating and analyzing policies, there needs to be more of
an emphasis on the social impacts policies have, especially when it comes to community
development policies. Although it is not the only issue with currently popular community
development policies, gentrification is one of the most problematic and enlightening conflicts of
our time. The core issue with gentrification is it does not benefit the people who are most
marginalized in the city. One can argue it improves neighborhoods by bringing business
development, improving housing, and increasing median incomes, but these benefits do nothing to

The government cannot keep ignoring the disproportionately negative impact on marginalized
groups and disadvantaged neighborhoods that the current strategy has had. Policies should aim to
benefit the most disadvantaged, which will require the government to implement equity over
equality. Policies will need to acknowledge differences between different groups and people. In
addition, community development policies should increase citizen participation, which will make
the city more a collective right for everyone, instead of just for the powerful and wealthy. These
goals will help steer the community development strategy away from issues such as gentrification
that ignore the needs of the marginalized, and will instead focus specifically on helping those who
need help the most. This does not mean policymakers need to disregard economic impact entirely in
policy analysis, but they should also recognize social impact and focus on the economic impact for
the most disadvantaged communities in the

Imagining the Future in Iraq Essay
Imagining the Future in Iraq
The future of Iraq remains unclear. There are those who have tried to categorize the current conflict
as the next Vietnam. Others have dubbed it the next Afghanistan, and others still see a future for
Iraq unlike any seen in history. In the midst of all this speculation, one thing is certain: eventually,
the US military must withdraw from occupied Iraq. As a matter of history, occupation does not last
unless there is a concomitant colonization and/or a significant population influx. Since the latter is
absent from the current situation in Iraq, it holds that an eventual American military withdrawal is
inevitable.

Just as in George Orwell s 1984, where the government was in the business of tampering with public

falsehood and deceptively harming the American public by keeping them in the dark. Wouldn t it
be ironic though if Iraq managed, as in Iran, to take over the American Embassy and declare the
independence of its own theocratic state?
The current situation does after all mirror Iran s prior to the Revolution of 1979 in several ways.
The United States s presence was one that encouraged the political repression of those against the
established power in Iran and does the same today in Iraq. Further, Shias, who constitute sixty
percent of the Iraqi population and almost all of Iran s, tend to gather more than Sunnis in large
groups during such mourning holidays as Ashura and Arba een, and so have a ritual means of
gathering en masse. Also, just like the thousands of troops the U.S. has stationed around the country,
so too did the Shah employ tens of thousands of SAVAK agents, or secret police, to keep a tight grip
on any potential insurrection. Ultimately, the instability of the mass protests frightened the Shah and
he fled to Egypt shortly afterwards. In Iraq, escalating American deaths and an unstable situation

by 17% of all women of reproductive age, they are amongst the most widely prescribed drugs in the

After reaching maturation, the follicle undergoes ovulation; an event stimulated by a surge in
luteinising hormone release from the anterior pituitary gland (orange line). The remnant follicle
(now termed the corpus luteum) secretes progesterone (red line), which maintains the
endometrial lining and causes it to enter the luteal phase. With triphasic COC s, three
incremental doses (phases 1 3) of progestogen (blue line) with (pink line)/without (dashed pink
line) a phase 2 dose increase in oestrogen are delivered over 21 days. This is followed by a 7 day
placebo period, which induces menstruation (placebo). Exogenous delivery of hormones in this
way achieves contraception with significantly lower doses of progestogen, whilst crudely
mimicking endogenous increases in oestrogen and progesterone. As such, it was hypothesised
that the triphasic regimen would afford various benefits over monophasic COC s. Contraceptive

Social Issues In The Walking Dead By Richard Kirkman
In the graphic novel, The Walking Dead by Richard Kirkman (writer), Tony Moore (art) and Cliff
Rathburn (gray tones) introduce us to see how it is to survive in the zombie apocalypse, where the
main story is not about the zombies themselves but the survivors. This is where a neighbor may
turn into a walker (slang of zombies, and infected) and probably they should consider murdering
him or her with an unsharpened object. This blunt object, the horrendous zombies, and the
expressions of the characters are well represented by Tony Moore through the art in this book.
Kirkman shows us that there are social issues between the survivors. Through his story, Kirkman
tells us that in a post apocalyptic world, there is no administration, there is no law implementation,
money has no value, there is no 911 to call and there is no characterized social structure. The only
they have is family members, friends, and strangers.
The social issues that take place revolve around Rick understanding that his wife Laurie has been
unfaithful. Shane is Rick s best friend and Laurie has reservations about the relations continuing. In
fact, Laurie has stated that the night with Shane was a mistake. Shane becomes aggressive with
Rick regarding an argument that resulted in Shane telling Rick to shut up about everything. When

About 9,000 glacial lakes are identified in the Himalaya of South Asia, out of which 200 lakes
are identified as potentially dangerous glacial lakes and liable to burst out at any time (Shrestha).
Likewise, snowcapped mountains are turning into dark rocky mountains. It has certainly
destroyed the natural beauty, although that is not what matters the most compared to other
difficulties. Melting of ice in Himalayas also weakens the grip between mountain and snow
which leads to avalanches. Giant chunks of ice swept down a treacherous section of Mount
Everest known as the Khumbu Icefall, claiming 16 lives in the single deadliest accident on the
world s highest peak (Maltby). This is the result of dangerous glacial lakes caused by increasing

Coastal region and Islands have faced more problems with an increase in sea levels. This is
mainly caused by the melting of ice and water expansion due to increase in temperature. It has

56 participants mean age 24.20 years where 15 were male and 41 were female. The study was
purely experimental where the participants were subjected to a specified tone either at rest or when
hopping and then were asked to count their heart beat rate using the palpation method. The
experiment took place in three phases pre test, training and the post test. Heart rates results for each
participant was recorded in each phase and the mean heart ratewas calculated for the pre test and
post test. Results indicated higher mean rates and standard deviation for post test in comparison to

Health Disparities And Health Care
Health disparities are present in our health care system. Whether it be racial, educational, or
environmental, these disparities exist and are detrimental to health care outcomes. While there have
been recent advancements in how to eliminate or reduce these disparities, there is still a major
inequity in healthcare for all individuals.
This paper will include definitions of health equity and health inequity, steps to reduce health
inequity, and two important decisions used to decrease in health inequity and why this reduction in
health inequity occurs. It will also include further discussion on certain steps and decisions used to
decrease health inequity.
Defining Health Equity and Inequity
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), health equity is achieved when every person
has the opportunity to attain his or her full health potential and no one is disadvantaged from
achieving this potential because of social position or other socially determined circumstances (U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services, 2015). Satcher (2010) reports that health inequities are
systematic, avoidable, and unjust disparities (p. 6). He also states that the World Health
Organization (WHO) concluded that social conditions are the most important determinant of a
person s health. Social conditions determine access to health services and influence lifestyle choices
(Satcher, 2010, p. 6). These determinants must be addressed in order to reduce health inequity.
Inequity can be

Arkansas Tech University Founded in 1909, Arkansas Tech University is rich in history and is
now one of the fastest growing universities in the state. Tech is a great university at a convenient
location. The name was changed to Arkansas Tech University on July 1, 1976. Arkansas Tech was
founded by Act 100 of the 37th Arkansas General Assembly. The Act was signed into law by
Governor Donaghey on April 1, 1909. Arkansas Tech University
was one of the first state
agricultural schools mandated at that time. It cost $120 million dollars in construction,
renovations, and instructional equipment. On the first day of school, there were nine faculty
members and 186 students. The university offers baccalaureate and graduate levels. The Ross
Pendergraft Library and Technology Center opened in July 1999. A.K. Short was the principal at
the new school. The school opened for classes in the fall of 1910. The first day of classes at the
Second District Agricultural School was October 26,1910. It was primarily a specialized high school
whose first student to enroll was the man who would later become the school s first band director,

Second, God promises to make the faithful ride on the heights of the land.113 The precise
meaning of the heights of the land is highly ambiguous. Knight claims that these heights are
where God places his feet, so from there one in his turn will be able to view the world below lying
in the hands of God (cf. Matt 4:8). 114 On the contrary, Achtemeier argues that in sheer
exultation, they will be exalted and will rejoice in the abundant and secure life Yahweh gives: such
is the meaning of v 14b (cf. Deut 32:13; 33:29; Isa 33:16; Am 4:13; Mic 1:3; Hab 3:18 19). 115
The latter view seems to be more persuasive because of its similar expression in Deut 32:13 and the

Lady In Paris
Known as one of the most famous Latin American writers, Julio Cortazar experimented with
writing techniques and existential questions in his work. One of his short stories, A Letter to a
Young Lady in Paris , is written in the form of a letter from the narrator to their significant other,
Andrea, who is away in Paris at the time. The narrator has decided to move into Andrea s
apartment and is writing the letter to attempt to explain that the damage Andrea will inevitably
come home was caused by a group of rabbits brought into the world through an anomaly the
narrator experiences in which they vomit up a live rabbitevery few weeks. At the very end of the
story, one realizes that this is no ordinary letter, but actually the narrator s suicidenote. The rabbits
symbolize the narrator s desire for creative freedom, which he continually attempts to suppress and
keep under control, until the eleventh rabbit comes along and acts as a catalyst, thereby changing
their perception of life itself. The narrator introduces the concept of them vomitingup rabbits as an...

Odours And Memory Lab Report
The results of the experiment does not support the hypothesis that odours can improve memory
and increase perceived alertness in individuals as there appears to be no correlation. ylang ylang
has been proven to have sedative and claming properties (Tisserand, 1993). Additionally,
peppermint was shown to produce a significant improvement in the quality of memory when
compared to the control and ylang ylang group (Moss et al., 2008). However, our results do not
seem support past research done on such matters. Several confounding variables identified could
be the reason for this incongruity. First, the way the odors were introduced into the room is done
differently with past research and with this experiment. Moss et al. (2008) applied 4 drops of the
odours to a diffuser pad for a Tisserand Aroma steam . The Aroma steam was placed under the

In this experiment, odours were sprayed into the testing rooms. Such differences in the method of
introducing the odours might affect the results. Another confounding variable could be the room
size. The size of a room will affect the diffusion of the odour and in turn, affect the extent
participants are affected. In Moss et al. s (2008) study, each testing cubicle measured 2.4m long x
1.8m wide x 2.4 m high. The room size for Ilmberger et al. was not mentioned. To add, no

Sexism In Epic Of Gilgamesh
The world is still sexist. Barbara Broccoli. From the creation story to modern day, women and men
still struggle with a power dynamic of inferiority and superiority. The problem of sexism has been
ever present throughout history, and although it has been acknowledged by many, it has not been
eradicated or resolved. Although the acknowledgment of sexism has grown over the course of the
modern era, it is heavily rooted in society s developmental process, which makes it continuously
difficult to annihilate. Furthermore, throughout many historical texts, women are often represented
as objects instead of real people. Within texts, such as the Epic of Gilgamesh, the Bible, the Quran,
and the Torah, women are constantly regarded as inferiors instead of equals with men. Throughout
these texts, there is a clear separation between the treatment of men and women, with women
always being referred to as property. The Epic of Gilgamesh contains several instances where
women are regarded as objects that solely provide men with pleasure, specifically with the story of
Shamat and Enkidu. In the beginning of the epic, the story is introduced with the creation of
Enkidu and his transformation into a human being; a vital part of Enkidu s transformation being a
woman named Shamat. Shamat acts as the bait or lure that leads Enkidu out of his animalistic
lifestyle, and causes him to become human. In order to do so, Shamat is told to do sexual acts that
will arouse Enkidu. For example, the

Ethcentrism In Rabbit-Proof Fence
The film Rabbit Proof Fence illustrates on the topics of ethnocentrism, and also, the significance of
perceiving the immense breadth of the Jigalong clan s customary biological learning to depict the
wrongs that jumped out at this gathering starting in the 1930 s. As the half rank youngsters were
taken from their homes with a specific end goal to be educated like English kids, the men
responsible for said operation were endeavoring to strip away the nobility, as well as the
conventions and character of a culture that was viewed as unthinkable on the grounds that the kids
were not the same as supposed humanized society. A case of the ethnocentrismin the filmwould be
when Mr. Neville, Chief Protector of Aborigines states, Ensured against themselves. On the off

Thinking that these children require sparing on the grounds that the children live as per an
arrangement of conventions and ways that originate from their own history is identified with what
is known as the White Man s Burden, since this is viewed as an adequate purpose behind
interceding in the lives of others, when this is extremely not satisfactory.
Another way that the motion picture can pass on the distinctions in culture is through the Jigalong
s learning of nature and surroundings all through the film. At a young age, the kids are instructed
how to rummage and chase for their own particular sustenance, which appears differently in relation
to the supper courses of action in the Moore River Native Settlement. Additionally, both the tracker,
who is chasing down Molly and her family can utilize the land for something other than
nourishment however a guide. Understanding those sorts of pieces of information gives the group
of onlookers an approach to see that the Jigalong clan s energy about nature in their social esteems
instead of seeing the emotional contrast and uncalled for nature of living in the Settlement.

The Artistic Aspect of Architecture Essay
The Artistic Aspect of Architecture
Architecture is undeniably one of the most powerful forms of art. Buildings have the ability to
loom in the distance when seen from afar. As you approach it more and more details can be seen.
Minute intricacies such as stone quality, texture, and perhaps some ornate detailing become
apparent. Even standing at a doorway can provide some involved feelings. Does the building seem
to invite the viewer inside with elaborate carvings and an open view to the interior? Or does it
intimidate the viewer with its massive proportions making them feel insignificant and trivial? When

This captivation has endured through the ages so as to elevate these structures beyond mere
buildings and to the status of art. In this light, the buildings can now be admired quite like a
painting or a sculpture in respect to the composition and placement of key components that come
together to make the glorified whole.
One significant part of any building is its door. How the interior is transferred into the exterior is
very important. Stepping through the doorway of a door is much like the thought of stepping
between a portal in between two realms. One of the most graceful examples of this transition is
illustrated through the Cathedral of Notre Dame of Paris north transept.
A string of events and thoughts occurs to the viewer when approaching the gothic cathedral s
northern transept. We see the gigantic façade of the Church. Curiosity invites us into the structure
through the tremendous stained glass rose. We see the rose, darkened because of the absence of
light not coming from the inside of the church. Automatically, the mind imagines the point of view
one would have from inside the cathedral while witnessing the light pass through the beautifully
colored glass. Another way that we are invited to step through the portal is through the fact that the
portal offers a space that is not totally outside nor inside, providing a smooth transition. The portal

Silas Brady s Narrative
With a snap of the reins and a click of his tongue, Silas Brady coaxed his horse into a faster pace,
causing the tiny yellow house on wheels to lurch and rumble behind him. His instincts detected
potential business as his professional eye admired the quaint scene at the bottom of the hill: a
clapboard house and barn, a small corral, and a large plot of land ready for planting. From his
position, the bright green canopy of an oak peeked above the roofline of the house. Aside from a
single grazing cow, the homestead was quiet and still. A tall, fair haired man of middling years
approached from behind the house to wait at the bottom of the porch steps though the lack of a
customary greeting was glaringly obvious. As a precaution, Silas stopped his wagon a short

The Legacy Of Alexander The Great
Alexander the Great Prior to approximately 350 B.C., Greece was a fragmented country with
individual tribes separated from each other due to the mountainous terrain and geographical
obstacles. Not only were they isolated physically, each individual polis remained focused on its
own needs and interests.(Hemingway) Philip II, a Macedonian king, wished that all of Greece
could act as one and be united under the same rule. In the Battle of Chaeronea, the son of Philip
II, Alexander, claimed victory for his father. During this key battle, Alexander demonstrated a
remarkable act of bravery when he led the cavalry. After conquering the rest of Greece, and
attempting to further his territory into Persia, Alexander s father was murdered. When Alexander
took over his father s reign, unbeknownst to the world at that time, he would change the course of
history. Alexander was the greatest leader the ancient world had ever produced because of his
upbringing, the vast areas he conquered, and the way he implemented the spread of Greek culture
and traditions. Alexander the Great became the most accomplished leader of his time due in part to
his childhood and upbringing. Training and instruction were a major role of Alexander s daily life
in helping develop him into the great leader and warrior that he was. Aristotle, a philosopher known
for his wisdom, became Alexander s tutor and mentor in various disciplines. From him, Alexander
learned literature, philosophy, and mathematics.

The Divine Comedy by Dante Aligheri
In The Divine Comedy, written by Dante Alighieri, illustrates a man on his journey through three
stages of differing setting. One, being hell, and the other two being purgatory and Heaven.
However, the most frequently read section of the book is when Dante writes about the Inferno, or
hell, due to the prolific details of punishments distributed to the sinners. When he writes, Dante
appeals to all readers by completely and vividly describing all events as he makes his descent
through hell. And, complementing those descriptions, Dante strategically places historical figures
throughout history in hell to make The Divine Comedyreal and very relatable. In other words, by
doing this Dante enables the reader to connect on a more deeper level with the comedy. Not to
mention that Dante also bases his Infernooff of Christian beliefs and well known mythology also
connecting the reader further into the writing. However, Dante purposefully and masterfully does
this for a reason. In The Divine Comedy, written by Dante Alighieri, Dante realistically and vividly
portrays hell in a violent surreal manner in order to educate the reader, and the living for that matter,
about their potential eternal after lives if they do not follow the true path God provides. Countless
times throughout this comedy, Dante graphically conveys scenes from the Inferno to make it seem

preparatory boarding school in 1911 on the Sussex Coast. Orwell did not come from a rich
family but a hardworking family. His mother was a French extraction in India and his father was
a minor British official in the Indian Civil Service. In preparatory school, Orwell was known to
be a brilliant, poor student, and was treated differently than the middle class students. Growing
up, he was shy and an ill tempered boy who told his stories through autobiographical essays and
satire stories. In 1922, Orwell won two scholarships to England s leading schools, Winchester
and Eton. He chose to attend Eton, and once graduated, he decided to follow his family s
hardworking tradition. Parallel to his father, Orwell moved to Burma and became an Assistant
District Superintendent in the Indian Imperial Police. From boyhood, he always wanted to
become a writer, and with realization of the forced British Imperial Political System amongst the
Burmese people he felt ashamed of his position; therefore, Orwell expressed his memories and
reactions of imperial rule in his novel Burmese Days and autobiographical essays, A Hanging and
Shooting an Elephant, all classics of metrical exposer. In 1927, Orwell decided not

The Greek Beliefs About The Journey To The Underworld
When the Greeks die they have to have a proper burial. They put a coin on the eye or in the
mouth of the dead person. If they did not have a proper burial the person would appear to
someone in their dream and tell them where their body was and to give them a proper burial.
Charon will only pick up people who have the coin to take them across Lethe. They then go
through the veil of mourning to the Plain of Judgement. If they have been good they get to go

NFL Offeason Analysis
This offseason has had it s fair share of dramatic signings. Many of the top names in the NFL
have found a new home for the 2018 season; names like Sherman, Cousins, Talib, and many
others. Lets take a look at what teams have improved the most on the offensive side of the ball
this offseason:Honorable Mentions:New York Giants:The New York Giants did not set the
world on fire by signing any big names in free agency, but still made very solid additions that
will surely help better a horrendous 3 13 record in the 2017 season. Their offensive line, while
still not top tier, should be much improved with the additions of former Patriots tackle Nate
Solder, 2nd round pick Will Hernandez of UTEP, and the decision of moving former first round
pick Ereck... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chicago went out and added a whole tandem of wide receivers, such as former Jaguars number 1
option Allen Robinson, Falcons Taylor Gabriel, and drafting University of Memphis star
Anthony Miller, who finished his last year in college with over 1,400 yards and 18 touchdowns.
These additions are no doubt an upgrade from the sub par receiving core that the Bears sported
in 2017. With brand new receiving options for Trubisky to throw to, an extremely solid rushing
attack featuring Jordan Howard, Tarik Cohen, and Benny Cunningham, and what should be one
of the better offensive lines in football this year, it shouldn t be a surprise if the Bears storm into
2018 with one of the top offenses in football. The Winner:Cleveland Browns:Oh Cleveland... the
laughing stock of the league for so many years has finally had enough. Keep in mind, this is a list
of the most improved offenses from last year, and it s pretty hard to be worse than dead last. The
Browns had the worst turnover differential of any team in the NFL last year, sitting at an incredible
41 total giveaways. With turnover machine DeShone Kizer throwing the ball, the Browns fell to the
infamous 0 16

Examples Of Suspense In W. Jacobs
W.W. Jacobs creates suspense using a mysterious monkey s paw. Ricky Lewis Jr. attempted to
create similar suspense using different techniques. As told in the story in the book, He took the
paw, and dangling it between his forefinger and thumb, suddenly threw it upon the fire. White,
with a slight cry, stooped down and snatched it off. Better let it burn, said the soldier solemnly. If
you don t want it, Morris, said the other, give it to me. . I won t said his friend doggedly. I threw
it on the fire. If you keep it, don t blame me for what if happens. Pitch it on the fire like a sensible
man. (Jacobs,108) Therefore, W.W. Jacobs fundamentally builds suspense with the dialogue
between Morris, who owned the paw initially, and Mr. White, who was interested and curious on
what the paw had to offer.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
White saved the paw from burning up. Also, since he had the chance, he took the paw and
contradicted Morris. This makes suspense because us, as the reader(s), we know that Mr, White
wants the possession of the paw for his benefit, even after being told that there was
consequences after every wish that was granted. And we don t really know what Mr. White is
going to wish for or what might happen next as a consequence, since the paw is enchanted with
a spell of an old fekir. Likewise, the film shows suspense aswell because Ricky Lewis Jr. used
music and sound effects, like the knocks at the door when Herbert was trying to get in the house,
as well there was music playing when the third wish was requested. Also, they used actors, in
which showed or demonstrated how the characters felt and did in a physical and visual way. In
addition, the director used lighting effects, making the scenes dark and frightening. Furthermore,
the director preferred to construct suspense differently from W.W. Jacobs version, by showing a
more vivid picture to the audience as if they were in the

Analysis Of Phil Collins Land Of Confusion
In 1986, a British rock band named Genesis released a song called Land of Confusion. It makes
the listener imagine, and take another look at the world and how it is being run. Despite having
a high tempo and a loud melody, it s not a song someone can generally dance to. The song s pop
rock style gives an upbeat variety of rock music. Pop rock in nature uses only electrical
instruments, which gives the song a synthetic sound. Phil Collins voice has a metallic sound
which suppresses his British accent. The band usually about romance or a personal experience
of someone, but this is a rare political song that questions the wisdom of world leaders at the
time. Phil Collins, lead singer and drummer, called it, A political song about the mess we have
landed in. It also had a very popular music video that won the 1987 Grammy for Best Concept
Music Video. When the song first starts, it sets the tone for the rest of the song. It starts out with
first, the drums, electric guitar, and electric keyboard having a very fast and loud melody. This
makes the listener think that something is about to happen, which allows the band to convey the
message of the song. The first lyrics of the song are, I must ve dreamed a thousand dreams/Been
haunted by a million screams/I can hear the marching feet/They re moving into the street./Now did
you read the news today/They say the danger s gone away/ But I can see the fire s still alight
/Burning into the night. From the

  • 2. Metal Forming In Medieval Europe During the Medieval period through the 5th and 15th centuries in Europe, technology advancement in metal forming and extraction was becoming popular. The reason for this is because of the battles and empires in the time periods having the desires to expand and build up their military. To complete this task, an edge in ironworking and metal forming had to be solidified as a strength for those wanting to further expand their countries boundaries. An example of this would be the Roman Empire. • 3. Different Roles of Irony in Fussell Essay Different Roles of Irony in Fussell The excessive use of irony throughout World War I literature paints a colorful scheme of thoughtfulness and style. Paul Fussell gives one explanation in The Great War and Modern Memory by stating that the war itself is ironic because every war is worse than expected. Every war constitutes an irony of situation because its means are so melodramatically disproportionate to its presumed ends (7). Writers obviously realized the irony of war and in turn wrote in this style maybe not by intention, but because it was inescapable. Providing a feeling of sorrow and pity seems to motivate Siegfried Sassoon in his poem titled The Hero in which an officer tells a mother that her son was brave ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Interestingly Owen uses irony when writing letters home to his mother. In Wilfred Owen: Collected Letters he writes on 16 January 1917: Three quarters dead, then realizing the implications and irony he corrected himself by writing #8230;I mean each of us Вѕ dead #8230;(393) . Other examples of the accidental use of irony exist throughout WWI literature I m sure. Fussell argues that the use of irony comes from memory. He states that irony is a tool used to recollect certain events that would otherwise go unnoticed . What assists #8230;recall is precisely the ironic pattern which subsequent vision has laid over the events (Modern 30). Fussell uses Gunner Charles Bricknall as an example of this phenomenon . Bricknall recalls seeing new troops standing along an often shelled road and telling the recruits about the danger. Bricknall wrote Ho, what a disaster! We had to go shooting lame horses, putting the dead to the side of the road, what a disaster, which could have been avoid if only the officers had gone into action the hard way. Recent events such as a 3 year old being killed by a stray bullet make law enforcers believe that having a curfew can help to protect innocent children from misfortunate events. The new curfew states that children younger than 14 must be inside by nine o clock, while 14 16 year olds have to be home by ten o clock on school nights. On weekends and summer nights 14 16 year olds can be out until eleven o clock. The teenager in me says, No. The considerate human in me who wants to prevent drugs and alcohol in children says, Yes. The curfew might help one or two kids seek proper help; however I find it hard to imagine that one policy setting a curfew can fix adolescent behavior. If the people in Baltimore are willing to put in the time and money of following through with this policy to help just a handful of children, then I think they should go through with it, but if they are expecting massive results, this policy should be revised. The movement was mostly women whose husbands had uncontrolled drinking habits. Alcohol was also being blamed for health issues like anemia, cancer, high blood pressure and nerve damage. LLP is a partnership consisting of one or more general partners and one or more limited partners (p. 554). It was created to limit the personal liability of the partners of losing their personal assets to only their own acts and omissions and to the acts and omissions of people under their supervision (Nickels, McHugh, McHugh, 2013, p. 119). This business form also allows a partnership to continue as a pass through entity for tax purposes (Miller, 2014, p. 554). However, limited liability partnershipis not recognized as a legal business structure in every state, unlike the general partnership, In addition, taxing authorities in some states recognize the structure of LLP as a nonpartnership for tax purposes due to its special structure (Scott Media, n.d.). There is also a limited partnership, which has one or more general partners and one or more limited partners. One partner will be a general partner and has unlimited liability and is active in managing the firm whereas the limited partner will only invest money in the business but does not have any management responsibility or liability for losses beyond the investment. The United States s presence was one that encouraged the political repression of those against the established power in Iran and does the same today in Iraq. Further, Shias, who constitute sixty percent of the Iraqi population and almost all of Iran s, tend to gather more than Sunnis in large groups during such mourning holidays as Ashura and Arba een, and so have a ritual means of gathering en masse. The problem of sexism has been ever present throughout history, and although it has been acknowledged by many, it has not been eradicated or resolved. Although the acknowledgment of sexism has grown over the course of the modern era, it is heavily rooted in society s developmental process, which makes it continuously difficult to annihilate. Better let it burn, said the soldier solemnly. If you don t want it, Morris, said the other, give it to me. . I won t said his friend doggedly. I threw it on the fire. If you keep it, don t blame me for what if happens. Pitch it on the fire like a sensible man. (Jacobs,108) Therefore, W.W. Jacobs fundamentally builds suspense with the dialogue between Morris, who owned the paw initially, and Mr. White, who was interested and curious on what the paw had to offer.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... White saved the paw from burning up. Also, since he had the chance, he took the paw and contradicted Morris. This makes suspense because us, as the reader(s), we know that Mr, White wants the possession of the paw for his benefit, even after being told that there was consequences after every wish that was granted. And we don t really know what Mr. White is going to wish for or what might happen next as a consequence, since the paw is enchanted with a spell of an old fekir. Likewise, the film shows suspense aswell because Ricky Lewis Jr. used music and sound effects, like the knocks at the door when Herbert was trying to get in the house, as well there was music playing when the third wish was requested. Also, they used actors, in which showed or demonstrated how the characters felt and did in a physical and visual way. In addition, the director used lighting effects, making the scenes dark and frightening. Furthermore, the director preferred to construct suspense differently from W.W. It makes the listener imagine, and take another look at the world and how it is being run. Despite having a high tempo and a loud melody, it s not a song someone can generally dance to. The song s pop rock style gives an upbeat variety of rock music. Pop rock in nature uses only electrical instruments, which gives the song a synthetic sound. Phil Collins voice has a metallic sound which suppresses his British accent. The band usually about romance or a personal experience of someone, but this is a rare political song that questions the wisdom of world leaders at the time. Phil Collins, lead singer and drummer, called it, A political song about the mess we have landed in. It also had a very popular music video that won the 1987 Grammy for Best Concept Music Video. When the song first starts, it sets the tone for the rest of the song. It starts out with first, the drums, electric guitar, and electric keyboard having a very fast and loud melody. This makes the listener think that something is about to happen, which allows the band to convey the message of the song. The first lyrics of the song are, I must ve dreamed a thousand dreams/Been haunted by a million screams/I can hear the marching feet/They re moving into the street./Now did you read the news today/They say the danger s gone away/ But I can see the fire s still alight /Burning into the night.
