Teigen Tremper Essay
Blonde Haired, Blue Eyed
Her blonde hair plastered to her shoulders as she wakes me up for school dripping water on my
face and pillow. Her blonde hair gleaming in the lights of the stage as she lets her voice ring into
the hearts of many. Her blue eyes scanning her homework for the slightest mistake. Her blue eyes
locking with mine telling me stories late at night. Teigen Tremper is my measure of a humanbeing.
She has more endurance than you would expect to fit in such a small body, her kindness level is
off the charts, and she is extremely intelligent. That doesn t mean that she is perfect, but in a way
that makes her more human and a greater measure of one.
Teigen doesn t give up. When an A student gets a bad grade on their test, they... Show more content

She is a 4.0 student with the occasional B+ and would make you the proudest parent by all the
comments she receives about how smart she is. Now let me tell you a story: a long time ago my
mother lied about my older sister s birthday, the cutoff date was September 10, but my sister s
birthday is September 15. Instead of waiting an extra year, Teigen was put in a early. This only
became a problem when Teigen was asked to be put in two years ahead in math instead of just
one. The only issue was the fact that technically she already was. My point about all of this, is
the fact that she isn t only advanced in math, but technically all the other subjects too. So school
wise she is perceived as a genius. When she does a math assignment, she will get everything
right. On tests, she is the one who gets the highest score when everyone else didn t do so hot. If
Teigen writes an essay, it isn t your typical two paged essay, it is a kick butt 6 paged essay.
(Unless the essay is limited to two pages, then it will be a kick butt two page essay.) And the
worst part is you know that if she dominates essays then it is a given that she is also able to
dominate Reflections and any other writing competition she enters. (Just like the AFS one that took
her to Ireland.) If you haven t read some of the competition papers she has entered you are
seriously missing out. When I say that she cheats at chess I mean she wins. The

Tornado Recovery Summary
This summary will cover the lessons learned and any suggestions necessary concerning the
following disaster. On May 22, 2011 a tornado spawned east of the Missouri Kansas state line
from a massive supercell thunderstorm that quickly escalated into an EF 5 monster. This monster
tornado tore a half mile to three quarter mile wide path of total destruction through Joplin,
Missouri claiming 161 lives (Smith Sutter, 2013). The response by the local and state government
was immediate bringing in a combination of public and private sector efforts. Joplin is one of the
few disasters that displayed how recovery efforts should be executed. Public sectors after the
disaster focused mainly on clearing debris and bringing the community back into normalcy, while
the private sector... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One key factor that helped in the timely recovery of Joplin was the massive volunteer sector efforts.
There were more than 92,000 registered volunteers that came from the United States and as far
away as Japan to help restore the community (Smith Sutter, 2013). To house all of these volunteers
FEMA provided temporary housing units for the volunteers and displaced victims. Immediately
after the tornado, the American Red Cross set up shelters for the displaced victims and within two
weeks of the disaster they also had a long term recovery committee functioning. Along with the
tremendous response from public, private, and volunteer sectors the social media network
contributed a huge role in coordinating relief. Most notably the local churches of St. Paul and
College Heights utilized Facebook to contact churches outside of Joplin bringing in faith based
organizations from all over the United States (Smith Sutter, 2013). The most fascinating aspect of
Joplin s recovery was the autonomous nature that the private and public sectors were able to
perform under. This can be

Gender-Polarized Voting In Detroit
In the past decade Detroit municipal government has undergone rapid changes in its institutional
functions. The city government once allowed for all nine members to be elected at large but since
a 2009 referendum was held with overwhelming approval that amended the city charter, Detroit
now requires that just seven of its nine councilors be elected via wards or districts while two of the
cities councilors are elected at large. The change that occurred in the city of Detroitwas seen by
many as being a way of cleaning the city up after decades of corruption crippling the cities political
functions and economic growth, and after the forced removal and resignation of the corrupt mayor
and council president, the citizens of Detroit sought to clean... Show more content on

there are some issues that critics of amending the charter of the City of Detroit do point out. The
literature on the representation of women finds precisely the opposite effect for single member
districts. While there are some exceptions, the vast majority of the research has concluded that
districts are either meaningless (Alozie and Manganero 1993; Bullock and MacManus 1991) or
disadvantageous for women candidates. Trounstine and Valdini are quoted as saying . Because
women are nearly always between 48% and 52% of a community s population, we cannot expect
that they will be aided by districts. Furthermore, there is little evidence of gender polarized voting.
A number of studies have found that voters evaluate female candidates drawing on gendered
stereotypes and that these stereotypes can affect perceptions about candidates and vote choice.
While it can be expected that changing the city charter to elect councilors by district or ward
instead of at large may benefit African American and Latino males, there is no clear evidence to
support that these changes will benefit white women and women of color any in advancing their
ability to hold elected office in Detroit or hold their councilor any more accountable than

Essay On Dried Fruits
What do u prefer, fresh fruits or dried fruits ? Which choice is healthier? A question we may ask
because many people don t like the idea of eating fresh fruits. So the question is : Can we replace
fresh fruits with dried ones ? As everything in life it is choice you have to take. It is a very
commom snack among young children, and adults as well. Drying is a very good way to preserve
foods and use it for a long period of time . As many processed food, it could lose some of its
nutrients . Here is a summary for the steps that are taken for this process:
Heat or air dryness in a good air circulation.
Select fresh, fully ripened fruit .
Dip food in ascorbic acid, citric acid or lemon juice
Condition to 4 to 10 days before packaging
Put it in tighten containers.
The history of dried food originates long time ago fresh fruits at that time were not available in
all seasons ,so they used these methods so they can find something to eat in the winter seasons.
The before using these fruits they used to reconstituted it with water to add the water what was
lost during the drying methods. Of course the methods they used to try the fruit were very basic.
In these days dried food is being used as a way to avoid eating eating the fresh fruits. As some
people try to avoid eating fresh fruits. Can dried fruits replace the fresh fruits or not. We will try to
answer this question in different aspects. In this paper we will discuss dried berries , their nutrition
values,

Analysis Of A Thousand Splendid Suns
On the other hand, Khaled Hosseini employs an open plot structure in A Thousand Splendid Suns
in order to comment on the effect of assiduity on the possibility of escaping an oppressive
environment. In A Thousand Splendid Suns, Hosseini illustrates his narrative through the parallel
plotline of his two protagonists Mariam and Laila to design an open, chronological plotstructure.
Through the first sentence of A Thousand Splendid Suns, Hosseini establishes that Mariam was
five years old the first time she heard the word harami (Hosseini 3). Hosseini s purposeful
decision of introducing his main character before all other elements such as the setting and
supporting characters illustrates his protagonists significance in the construction of the plot
structure s foundation. In order to establish an open, chronological plot structure, Hosseini
constantly reminds the readers of the progression of time through the inclusion of the year and
Mariam s age. For instance, in the exposition of chapter five, Hosseini declares, It was the spring
of 1974, the year Mariam turned fifteen (Hosseini 25). Then in chapter fifteen the last chapter of
the first part Hosseini once again states, On April 17, 1978, the year Mariam turned nineteen...
(Hosseini 97). Hosseini purposely includes the date along with Mariam s increasing age
throughout the chapters for the readers to become cognizant of the novel s chronological format.
In addition to illustrating the progression of time through Mariam, Hosseini also mirrors the
same structure for his second protagonist, Laila. In the second part of A Thousand Splendid
Suns, Hosseini prefaces the chapter with the header Kabul, Spring 1987. Immediately below the
header, Hosseini begins the chapter by stating, Nine year old Laila rose from bed, as she did most
morning, hungry for the sight of her friend Tariq (Hosseini 107). By introducing Laila through the
identical structure utilized when first presenting Mariam, Hosseini provides hints of his wish for
readers to juxtapose the two females. Furthermore, by introducing nine year old Laila twenty three
years after the introduction of five year old Mariam, Hosseini was able to illustrate Laila s plotline
in relation to Mariam s

Pros And Cons Of The Conservation Corps
My previous experiences with the Conservation Corps taught me so much. Not only did it help
me learn the importance of hard work, communication, and teamwork, but it opened my eyes to
many other vital skills. The Conservation Corps gave me perspective. I learned to look at people
not as their stereotypes, but for the individuals they were. When I was in immersed in nature, I
never felt so connected to who I am. I built life long friendships, learned to trust others even
when it was difficult, and found parts of myself that I d never seen before. I want to return to the
corps because other, easier, jobs wouldn t offer me the same opportunities to grow the skills I
originally learned. I would be honored to become a Conservation Corps of MN and IA Wilderness
Crew Member.
My biggest strength is my adaptability. I always try to have an open mind when I meet others who
have different views than me. I see the option for learning in my failures, and always keep in mind
my end goal when things don t always go as planned. My biggest weakness is that I always like
to be in control. I like to have a plan, and stick to it. I will overcome this weakness by trusting
others to take lead, and stop worrying about things I have no control over.
I have always been passionate about the environment and especially conservation. I would love to
learn about more ways to put conservation into action. I am a PADI Open Water Certified Scuba
Diver, and am completing my Advanced Open Water Certification

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Gaming Laptops
As a general rule, gaming laptops are not cheap, they are usually the most expensive laptops you
can purchase. If you go with a fully loaded high end gaming machine from the popular brand
name makers you will likely have to dish out 4 to 6 grand for the top rigs.
However, since all laptop prices have been falling at a steady rate in recent years, if you shop
around you can find a half decent gaming laptop at a reasonable price. Here we re still talking
about $1500 to $2500 for a good quality gaming laptop. Although there are probably cheaper ones
to be found if you look in the right places.
Now, the main reason gaming laptops are so expensive is because of the high end components and
high end specs that s needed to produce a superior gaming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Rise of an Unconventional Candidate: Donald Trump s popularity can be attributed to the support

an honest man and appreciate that he isn t part of the GOP establishment. The real estate mogul
has a strong appeal to those who have suffered from economic globalization, which are largely
lower educated, older white men living in the South, the Rust Belt, and the Rocky Mountains, a

Arguments Against Batgirls
Argument Structure:
(Intro) : In 1999 Gail Simone created a list with the number of heroines that had in one form or
another been stripped of their power through some form of abuse and then were stuck in the
refrigerator which means that they faded into the background while the males in their universe
rose to the foreground. This list was inspired by an issue in the Green Lantern comic in which his
girlfriend was dismembered and then stuck in the fridge. The issue focused on the suffering and of
the Green Lantern and completely ignored hers. This can be seeing as metaphor of how female
comic book readers are forced to fade into the background.
(Argument 1) Topic Sentence 1 and supporting statements: The idea that comic books are
exclusively meant for males is often reinforced by scholarly articles. These articles often rely on
statistics and information that isn t completely reliable. In the height of comic book popularity
comic books were as popular with teenage girls as they were with boys however, this data is often
ignored. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Identity Is Something We Search Essay
Identity
Identity is something we search for, something we want to find out about ourselves. We want to
know what we are here for and what s our purpose. Identity is the way one sees themselves and
our identity is all we have that s why we protect it and always are trying to make ours better than
the others. I believe college is a time where we find our identity, maybe we have an idea on what it
is going to be and sometimes it takes us many years to figure it out. In Daniel Marks experience
his identity is going to take awhile for him to find if he doesn t change his ways. Daniels before
was very rough, he was in trouble a lot. He said he felt like a failure to his father s standards. He
enjoys partying very much, this has lead to him being a poor student with a GPA below a 2.0.
His study habits are very poor but he is planning on going to college. His advisor told him he
would fail out if he didn t change his ways. After hearing all about daniel s story I would
categorize him into the Diffusion area. This is because he is just simply doesn t care, he lacks
motivation and is only doing enough to barely get by. I can avoid all of these things by sticking
to the things I ve been doing and to adjust and use the strategies we have learned in U100. In
Monica s story you hear about a lot of the things she was going through in her first semester so it s
pretty relatable. She tells us about how her parents did not attend college, but she really wants to.

The Western military trajectory finds many of the impetuses for a military revolution stemming
from non Western stimuli. Innovations such as the composite bow (introduced by the Hyksos),
cavalry (accredited to Assyria and Persia), the stirrup (attributed to China), gunpowder (China),
crossbow (China), and cannons (China) have been attributed to non Western regions; however, it is
the Western militaries that exploited these innovations to their full deadly potential and in the
process created militaryrevolutions. This paper will discuss how some of these exploitations
affected the Western military trajectory during the Gunpowder and First Industrial Revolutions,

The French invasion of Italy was not only an early part of the Gunpowder Revolution and the
beginning of the modern age of warfare, but it was one of the first attempts at building nation
states. At the time, Italy was divided into several city states, sovereign regions formed by a city and
its surrounding territories. Due to the small size of many city states, their defense was turned over
to mercenary captains, condottieri. The paid men who formed compagnie (companies) under the
condottieri were most often foreigners who lacked loyalty to their paymasters. On the other hand,
as France expanded and took over city states such as Armagnac, Burgundy, Provence, Anjou, and
Brittany, they would become a part the French nation and its military. As such, King Charles VIII
became the leader of the most powerful state in Europe by advancing the nation state instead of city
states. Nearly one and a half centuries later, Swedish King Gustavus II Adolphus would further
advance the French artillery techniques and make modern modifications to the formation and
maneuver of his troops during the Battle of Breitenfeld in 1631 against Count Johann Tilly, an
Imperial commander. Tilly formed his forces in seventeen tercios, large formation of pikemen and
musketeers fifty men abreast and thirty men deep. This formation was deadly for everything in its

with brexit getting more certain and sable for the UK financial market another question will be
to know if the EU regulations for the UK would be a big burden for their transactions outside the

Karl Marx And Capitalism Essay
Karl Marx, oh where do I begin, The father of communism wrote many books and presented ideas
that were never really brought up in an economical system before. Karl Marx was strictly
opposed to Capitalism because he believed that it was an extremely unfair and one sided kind of
government. He noted that the rich which he called the bourgeoisie kept getting richer by taking
advantage of the classes that weren t as fortunate as them. Karl used this difference in class to
focus on his own ideal economy, where he spoke of a world where everyone has the same.
Everyone unites under one and do things for the benefit of the nation as a whole. Karls hate for
capitalismgrew as he saw everyday workers lives. They would work anywhere from twelve to...

The Human race had , by this time already grown into civilized culture so they needed time to
educate themselves and explore the arts but due to the condition, children would instead work to
support their families instead of learning and educating themselves. This poses a conflict, although
production continues the economy will become stagnant eventually, The bourgeoisie will only
continue to become richer and the other socialclasses would never be able to move up the social
ladder. The lower class will remain the lower class. Prime example of the rich getting richer. Karl
Marx believes that explotation is impossible to evade as long as there is a system in place that
practices Capitalism. Nowadays there are many reforms that have been put into place and
protections for workers, yet marx would argue that exploitation still exists . This day in age we
hve a minimum wage in the usa and workers compensation, there are six days, vacation days and

would say there is still Exploitation. Even though I am not a fan a communism I completely agree

The Importance Of The Korean War
In America we always remember the importance of the wars we fought. For some reason most
people always forget or skip the Korean War. Korea was a small colony that was taken over by
Japan in 1910. When World War II ended Japan s government was falling apart and could no
longer support Korea. This left the colony to anyone who wanted it, and Russia answered the call.
Russia successfully conquered the north when the south contacted the U.S. to stop them. War broke
out on June 25, 1950 which had sealed the fate of the Korean Peninsula. The Korean Warwas
mostly a coalition with communist values and capitalist values. The outcome of this war has
shaped the way works. The Korean War was very important to the world because it showed that
America was unprepared, the Korean Peninsula was divided, and the countries who were involved.
America being unprepared for the Korean War is very important to the world. America went into

fired. To his shock, the rocket bounced off a tank. The 2.36 inch bazooka rockets the U.S. soldiers
had been given could not penetrate the heavy armor of the T 34 tanks. (Washington Post) After the
Koreans came in with the tanks the U.S. soldiers could not destroy them. This resulted in the
soldiers retreating from the tanks. Next the U.S. soldiers we also not properly

Barbara Corcoran made her own luck and success through hard work and determination. She didn t
let a bad start to adulthood define her life. Every negative experience she endured, motivated her to

The Pros And Cons Of The Moon Landing
For the last forty years people have been arguing whether if the Moon landings were real. The
Moon landings occurred during the late 1960 s and into the early 1970 s. During this time the
United States and the Soviet Union were in a competition known as the Space Race. The main
objective during the Space Race was for one country to put a man on the Moon. The competition
was getting intense, and both countries began expanding their space programs. During the
Space Race and the Apollo missions NASA created over 400,000 jobs making it impossible for
all of the workers to keep the events a secret if it were fake (Riley). The technology between the
two countries was also top of the line at that time. The Soviet Union could track down the United
States every move, so therefore if the moon landings were fake; the Soviet Union would clearly
know (Allen). With the technological advancements and the jobs created throughout the process
of the Apollo missions, it s obvious that NASA did not fake the Moon landings. Conspiracy
theorists believe that the evidence of the flag waving in space, the lighting from the pictures, and
the strange shadows from the pictures create it obvious that the Moon landings were all a hoax.
Conspiracy theorists claim these areas for the Moon landing being fake, and in the end they
believe that the moon landings were done in a T.V. studio to give the affect that the Moon landings
were in fact real. The flag waving is the largest claim that conspiracy theorist

Social Media Anxiety
The Relationship of Social Media and Social Anxiety The ever growing world of social media is
a network of sites and websites designs to have individuals share pictures and ideas will all their
friends instantly. The popularity of these sites bursted right out of the gates and are used by
billions of people every day. While such sites may appear harmless, these interactive platforms are
causing an immense rise in social anxiety. These social networks are actually damaging the mental
health of many users. Over fifteen million people in the United States are diagnosed with social
anxiety, and in today s world the number of causes linked to social media is on the rise. Most of
these cases are in individuals starting at thirteen, but the ages rage significantly. According to The
American Association of Depression and Anxiety social anxiety can be defined as, The extreme fear
of being scrutinized and judged by others in social or performance situations. This type of anxiety
is closely linked with feeling of loneliness; and this loneliness only intensifies the feelings of
anxiety and paranoia. Social paranoia stems from the fear rejection. These individuals are terrified
they will humiliate or embarrass themselves, so they simply withdraw. This specificity type of
anxiety interferes significantly with daily routines, occupational performance, or social life, making
it difficult to complete school, interview and get a job, create true friendships and romantic

Comparing Svidrigailov s Dream In Crime And Punishment
In the novel Crime and Punishment, there are various dreams that are prominent to the story and
add element to the characters. This includes the character, Arkady Svidrigailov, who experiences
several dreams. Dostoevsky uses Svidrigailov s dream as a representation of his subconscious
desires, both pure and impure; this includes his dreams in order to further characterization of
Svidrigailov that could not occur through plot events or dialogue.
The first of Svidrigailov s dreams begins with a mouse running all over his body. The dream was so
strange he thought it was real.
He was dozing off; the feverish shiver had ceased, when suddenly something seemed to run over his
arm and leg under the bedclothes...he shook the blanket and suddenly ... Show more content on

Svidrigailov knew that girl; there was no holy image; no burning candle beside the coffin; no sound
of prayers: the girl had drowned herself. She was only fourteen, but her heart was broken (502).
Svidrigailov has this dream because the girl he raped had killed herself because of his actions. Yet,
Svidrigailov surprises the reader: But her loose fair hair was wet; there was a wreath of roses on
her head. The stern and already rigid profile of her face looked as though chiselled of marble
too, and the smile on her pale lips was full of an immense unchildish misery and sorrowful appeal
(502). This could be a depiction of Svidrigailov s guilt of raping the young girl. From being
familiar with Svidrigailov s character, the reader would not expect him to feel guilty of his action.
The final significant dream concludes when he is walking through a corridor and finds a young girl.
He bent down with the candle and saw a little girl, not more than five years old, shivering and
crying, with her clothes as wet as a soaking house flannel...he took her in his arms, went back to
his room, sat her on the bed, and began undressing her...when he had undressed her, he put her on
the bed, covered her up and wrapped her in the blanket from her head downwards.

The Need for Anti-Bullying Laws Essay
Bullying has been escalating to a certain degree that it has affected as many as 160,000 students
that reported staying home from school every day, because they were afraid of being bullied
(www.stompoutbullying.org). Bullying does not only stops one from wanting to go to school, it
also makes one feel anxious, insecure, and unhappy at school, isolated and at times severely
depressed (Young, Shin Kim, and Leventhal). Schools must have better resources available to
students; this includes the victim and the bully. The victim should have both better counseling and
stricter laws to protect them. Bullies also need counseling due to research which states that many

Dan Olweus published a Swedish book regarding bullying and in the US in 1978 under the title
Aggression in the Schools: Bullies and Whipping Boys. According to Olweus victims are
generally cautious, sensitive, quiet, withdrawn, and shy, and are often anxious, insecure,
unhappy, and have low self esteem ( Olweus). He also stated he found that bullies have a strong
need to dominate and subdue other students to get their own way; are impulsive and easily
angered (Olweus). In another study Dr. Dan Olweus suggested that 15% of 140,000 students in
715 schools were involved in bullying from time to time or more frequently. About 94% of the
students were classified as victims while 6% were classified as bullies (Olweus). Another
researcher states that bullying is a significant problem that despite all the sound and fury still
has not received sufficient attention (Greenya). Bullying is a serious problem that needs to be
paid better attention to by schools, states, and parents. On October 12, 2009 a horrible act of

The Grasshopper And The Bell Cricket Symbolism
Franz Kafka, in The Red Indian, uses an Indian as a symbol of freedom, a life without social
constraints. In the story, the narrator longs to be an Indian suddenly vigilant on a galloping horse,
until eventually he loses the spurs and the reins, because he doesn t need them, and the horse s
neck and head vanish (Kafka 64). Essentially, he is saying that he longs for a freedom he does not
have. He wishes to simply ride away from his troubles as an Indian would. No longer bored with the
constructs of a dull society, but vigilant. Another man may ride with spurs and reins, those
constraints of society, but an Indian would be simply unbounded by these things. Thus, the symbol
of the Indian is that of freedom that the narrator longs for.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

She also utilizes the lanterns as a symbol for the personalities or things we try to use to obtain
such insects (or people). For instance, Kawabata illustrates the children: Each day [...] the
children made new lanterns out of their hearts and minds. Look at my lantern! Be the most
unusually beautiful! (66). Kawabata shows that when in pursuit of insects, one must try to put
on the best front. The first child who went looking eventually discards his red lantern, because it
was too boring. Each day the children make new ones to try to have the best, just as young
adults do when pursuing a partner. We each try to have the most flashy personality and look.
Therefore, the lanterns are a type of mask that the children put on to find the most attractive bug.
The grasshopper, then, is the type of beautiful person one wants to find, and the bell cricket is
the less appealing insect. Kawabata suggests that the bell cricket is the better bug, for there are
not many bell crickets in the world (67). Probably, Kawabata says, you will find a girl like a
grasshopper whom you think is a bell cricket (67). In the end, though, even a true bell cricket will
seem like a grasshopper (Kawabata 68). These sentences seem confusing at first, but ultimately
Kawabata is saying that the person you want may not be what they seem, the person you find may
be more than they appear, and the person you love will be beautiful to you, even if they are not. In
summation, the insects symbolize the types of people or the types of relationships that one may

Problems with Cultural Relativism in Anthropology
Cultural Relativism and Problems Associated with This Approach
Cultural anthropology is the study of cultural variation among people. An essential concept that
professional anthropologists apply in their fieldworks is cultural relativism an approach to study of
the nature and role of values in a culture without judgment and comparison to their own. According
to the Study Guide, Smillie and Kenny state that major contribution to the study of the concept of
cultural relativism can be attributed to Boas and his students, who challenged a wide spread idea
that societies are staged along a line from the most undeveloped to most civilized. Rather, they
suggested that each individual culture should be understood in terms of its unique ... Show more

Thus, in order to understand and speculate about others, it is important to understand human nature
in the light of unique cultural customs and beliefs before passing judgment.
However, there are situations when it is difficult to suspend judgment and engage with a cultural
relativist approach. Particularly, when people engage in behaviors that are harmful to individuals or
when basic human rights are at stake, sometimes it is necessary to intervene and hold back cultural
tolerance. On the other hand, it has been questioned whether it is ethical to impose one s beliefs
and cultural standards on someone else; especially, when subjected individuals have no concerns
with their controversial cultural practices. Who decides at what degree of a controversial issue an
anthropologist has a right to intervene on account of human rights violation? On that note, this
paper will focus on the issues of human rights violation that makes it difficult to engage in cultural
relativism.
While each cultural practice, controversial or not, can be justified within its cultural content, it does
not mean that it is appropriate and accepted. Take into account an international debate that has been

Gender Stereotypes In Sesame Street
Many times in our life we take on roles that are based more on myths and on misconceptions than
on fact, for example, gender roles. Since ancient times, it was considered natural for women to
give birth (to boys, if possible) and take care of children and the household. Women were often
considered unqualified for jobs that required physical strength. Men, on the other hand were the
breadwinner of the family. He made sure to provide his family with the basic needs, such as food,
clothing, protection and shelter.
In society, the media is a powerful socializing agent for young children. When children watch TV
they see males act more aggressively than females, and that females are more likely to understand
other people s needs and feelings. All of the children shows in the 1991 Saturday morning TV
lineup had male lead characters. Even on public TV s Sesame Street , most of the Muppet
characters were identified as males. In 2007, there are a few female Muppet characters on Sesame

When children are born, mothers and fathers tend to describe boys as firm, alert, and strong, and
girls as beautiful, pretty and cute. There is no difference between babies except for gender. The
different descriptions reflect the parents attitudes about boys and girls rather than the babies actual
characteristics. These stereotypes find there way into a child s bedroom. A boy s room contains
more vehicles and sports equipment, while a girl s room is more likely to contain dolls. Fathers, in
particular, treat sons and daughters differently. Fathers play more roughly with sons than with
daughters, and usually give them more independence. The different messages that are received by

Vladimir Lenin and his Rise to Power
Eventually, empires and nations all collapse. The end can be brought about by many causes.
Whether through becoming too large for their own good, being ruled by a series of out of touch
men, falling behind technologically, having too many enemies, succumbing to civil war, or a

He formed his own political party, the Bolsheviks, a split off of the earlier Marxists. Unlike other
parties of his time, Lenin limited membership to a small number of full time revolutionaries
(Haney 41). This dedication and tight organization later proved both useful and effective. From
1897 to 1917, he traveled all over Europe writing propaganda, organizing strikes, and encouraging
revolution among the working class, especially in Russia (Lenin, V.I. 191). Lenin knew what he
wanted, knew how to get it, and was willing to wait.
During World War I, the time was right and Lenin was the man. Czar Nicholas IIremained totally
focused on winning the war, and did not hesitate before committing more men and supplies to the
war effort(Haney 65). But for an already starving country, every train that brought supplies to the
front could not also be bringing food to peasants. With public sentiment and even the Czar s own
army against him, Nicholas abdicated the throne in March of 1917 (69). A government by soviets
(councils) was instated, but did not last long. After that, Alexander Kerensky seized power. In
November, Lenin and his Bolsheviks, with help from armed citizens, stopped the revolving door.
They took over St. Petersburg (then Petrograd) and later captured Moscow, meeting little resistance
along the way (Jantzen 613). Lenin took over the government and signed a treaty with Germany to
take Russia out of the war. Immediately

Was Silvio the right choice to head the India operation?
In my opinion, I do not think that was the right choice. Even though India s growth potential was
significant, there are several reasons why I think so. First of all, Exchange rates and unforeseen
duties further frustrated market development efforts. When it comes to international business
those risks always would be cause of challenge. For example Japanese lumber company in Canada
decreased their sales from last year because of change of currency rate of Japanese yen and Canada

Ridesharing companies claims that with their programs such as Uberpool and Lyft Line, it can
actually be beneficial for the environment. As the name implies, Uberpool is a carpooling method
based on splitting fares with people going to the same place as you. It s environmentally efficient
by having less cars on the road because it reduces single rider fares, resulting in less harmfull
emissions (Uber). According to Amanda Eaken, a director of transportation and climate at the
National Resource Defense Council, 40 percent of emissions in California is from transportation.
Additionally, along with the main ideas from A Struggle to Govern the Commons, more emissions
raise the atmospheric concentrations of CO2, a known greenhouse gas that contributes to climate
change. So with this, UberPool and Lyft Line may actually make an effect on helping the
environment. However there are limitations to this, it is not currently based by any research, just a
theoretical hypothesis. Fortunately, some scientific research is on the way. Eaken, along with
Professor Susan Shaheen from UC Berkeley s Transportation Sustainability Research Center, is

Steve Jobs led a revolution not only in technology, but in the history of the world, and the
determination of the future as well. When Jobs was in his garage with Steve Wozniak about to
create the first Apple computer, they had no idea that they would later own one of the biggest
and wealthiest companies in the world, and also revolutionize technology and set a precedent
for future technology innovators such as themselves. The Apple I, which was Apple s first
product, was sold as an assembled circuit board and lacked the basic features that all Apple
products have today such as a keyboard, monitor, and case. The Apple I was first introduced to
the public at The Homebrew Computer Club. Half of all U.S. households own at least one Apple
product, according to CNBC s All America Economic survey. Jobs later became known as a
master of innovation because of his strong innovations in technology. Without him, the world
would be much farther behind than it currently is. When the Apple I entered the public market
in July of 1976, a new chapter of the world began. The legacy that Jobs left will remain growing
and never end. The revolution and empire that Jobs created was incredible. Jobs was kicked
from Apple in the early years do to infighting of the company. Steve them founded team
Macintosh, while Wozniak was the leader of team Lisa, both in a head to head race of who will
create the first computer. While team Lisa made it to the finish line first, sales of the Apple Lisa

History of The Ancient Religion Called Wicca
One of the greatest myths precipitated about Wicca is that it is an ancient religion. Wicca is not an
ancient religion. It has no ties to medieval or even pre ‐Christian religious beliefs. Wicca was
inspired by a theory of Margaret Murray, who proposed that there was one organized Cult of Diana.
This idea is largely dismissed as inaccurate and Murray s work is considered by scholars to be full
of factual errors.
Where Wicca began, is with Gerald Gardner in the early 1950 s. Gardner was stationed in India
for several years and while he was there, he studied the Hindu religion. He also had an interest in
magick and the occult . Once he returned to England and retired, he was initiated into a coven of
witches in 1939. This coven was practicing magick and rituals from fragments of undetermined
origin. Gardner took these fragments and fleshed them out, adding and changing them until he
had something that was workable and more spiritually fulfilling than just the fragments. His
work was heavily influenced by Murray s work as well as Leland s Aradia: Gospel of the
Witches and his studies into high ceremonial magick, Hinduism, and the work of Alastair
Crowley. Crowley s work features fairly prominently in Gardner s work and there is debate about
whether or not Gardner hired Crowley, just conversed with him, or possibly stole his work to use.
These filled in rituals received another re ‐write in the mid to late 50 s when Gardner initiated
Doreen Valiente into his coven.

Labeling Of Plain Packaging On Cigarette Cases, By Harry...
With the looming possibility of the implementation of plain packaging on cigarette cases, the
lobbyist involved uses certain facts to shed light on the seemingly hidden implications of the
plain packaging policy. The main concern of the lobbyist and the advantage point lies within the
state of unawareness the majority of the population is left in. The lobbyist essentially claims that
the plain packaging policy has no proof of being an effective way of diminishing the smoking
population. Though the lobbyist asserts that it is invalid, this research essay will introduce
compelling evidence and experimental data that suggests the notion behind the plain packaging
policy is actually an efficient method for minimizing the popularity of smoking. This paper will
also include opposing point of views that argue otherwise and the issue with their allegations.
Before analyzing academic sources that convey the effectiveness of plain packaging, it is crucial
to have an understanding of what plain packaging is and how it works. Harry Clarke and David
Pentice s article describes plain packaging as the removal of all aesthetic features from tobacco
packages. Strictly speaking, a set of explicit specifications determines what a package must have to
be considered plain packaged. Some of these provisions include changing brightly colored cigarette
packs to packages that contain standardized drab dark brown [colors,] with trade names in a
standard font (Clarke Pentice). Furthermore, instead

TBWA Chiat Day Agency Briefing on Jameson Advertising Campaign
Table of Contents
Overview Jameson is currently the world s favorite Irish whiskey. It is the world s most
recognizable Irish whiskey and is also the best selling by a long shot. Over 30 million bottles of
Jameson s whiskey is sold every year. There are seven main whiskies within the Jameson brand
(Straightwhisky, 2013).

Jameson whiskey is the main whiskey within the Jameson brand. It is a blend that incorporates the

The dedication to heavy advertising is targeting Jameson s sales to nearly doubling to 3.5m cases
by 2OO9 (BeverageBusiness.com, 2006). This is no new concept with the brand: in the mid
199Os the hoary Spirit of Ireland campaign helped Jameson become the world s fastest growing
international spirit and fastest growing whiskey. Then the What s The Rush? campaign stressed
the importance of people stretching out to enjoy themselves with friends in the face of
increasingly frenetic lifestyles (BeverageBusiness.com, 2006). Jameson grew more than 2O% in
the US in 2OO5, with sales in travel retail up 16%. South Africa grew by 4O%; Russia s sales
doubled, as it did in 2O+ principal markets worldwide (led by Ireland, USA, UK, France, and
Spain). Last year, the company put 4O million euro (US $5O.8 million) behind Jameson, launching
the ongoing Beyond the Obvious campaign (BeverageBusiness.com, 2006). The positioning
statement I think would be For young hard working real men who enjoy a fine whiskey Jameson
Irish Whiskey is the beverage of choice. Advertising objective is to build the brand year around,
and not just on St. Patrick s Day (BeverageBusiness.com, 2006.) The three main objectives are to
build brand awareness, at 3O% awareness it s still a discovery brand; strengthen brand positioning;
and create consumer brand relationship (BeverageBusiness.com, 2006).

Differences Between The Movie And Movie
COMPARATIVE ESSAY OF THE DOCUMENTARY AND FILM Flight 571 The Andes Plane
Crash On the 13th of October 1972, a plane which carried Uruguayan union rugby player team
from to a match in Chile crashed, in an area in the Andes what was known as The Valley of Tears .
They were stranded for 72 days in the harsh, unfamiliar environments; their story of survival would
soon amaze and disturb the world, becoming the basis for a documentary named I am Alive:
Surviving the Andes Plane Crash (2010) and the movie Alive (1993). A documentary and a movie
are two similar, yet different things. They both (re)tell a story, but have different purposes most
documentaries are made with the point to inform, and movies purely for entertainment. This means

Alas, the circumstances had become so dire they had no choice but to resort to anthropophagy a
term used by Parrado himself. Cannibalism is consuming the flesh of someone killed/injured by
your hand, so technically he was correct. The survivors made promises to each other and bonded
through their longing for their return; the extent of every man s struggle at their breaking points
was shown in both films, but I am Alive portrayed their resilience and willpower to a life changing
degree. The diverse primary sources and expert analyses constantly lead to viewers to think about
the real story behind the screen. Alive wasn t as convincing, and therefore connected less with the
watchers. The various alterations hint that producers paid less attention to the truth and detail,
instead focusing on entertaining the audience. But Flight 571 is a story that cannot be entirely told
by a group of actors, experts and even the survivors themselves; it s an event that people will truly

The Slave By Frederick Douglass
Concepts, techniques, and ways of thinking can last much longer than their creators. The
philosophy of Plato is an example of that. Its ideas can be found in a speech written thousands of
years later. In What to the Slave is the Fourth of July? Frederick Douglass, a former slave,
addresses an audience of white abolitionists on July 5th of 1852. He focuses on the disparity
between the American values celebrated on the Independence Day and the issue of slavery. To do
so, Douglass raises the question of to whom those values apply and explains why and how it should
be different. Analyzing Douglass effort, we see that he is using arguments that trace back to the
ancient Platonic ideas to support his stance on the equally ancient question of citizenship.
From the beginning of his speech, Frederick Douglass uses specific language to create a distance
between him and his audience. Although he calls his listeners fellow citizens, Douglass refers to
the United States and its independence as your nation and your freedom. This explains Douglass
view of his position in the country: he was a citizen, although not officially recognized as one, but
this land was not his. The question of citizenship raised in the U.S. at Douglass time resembles the
situation in Athens at Plato s time. There, only 15% of the population were citizens with full rights
of participation in the Athenian democracy. While Plato does not address this issue in the Gorgias
or the in the Phaedrus, Douglass

Debate And Conflict In The United States
The United States is at a time when everything is up for debate and conflict is absolutely
inevitable. Sure, there is always conflict if there wasn t conflict, the world would be an even
worse place but it is important for leaders of a free country to be able to study history and learn
from the world s past failures. It is hard to tell, based off the conflicts in America today, if our
leaders are trying to learn from their mistakes. Today our country is struggling with major issues
such as abortion, equality, and religious separation. Today, all across the country, there is debate
over the legality of abortion. Citizens are told that there are only two choices: you can be pro choice
or pro life. You force the baby to live or you leave

Unintended Consequences In The Bible And The Tower Of Babel
The Old Testament depicts sin and unintended consequences with stories, like The Tower of Bible
and the Golden Calf. Neither story illustrates direct sin or disobedience, however, they do show
God s way of punishment for sin and disobedience, with a touch of irony. The Old Testament
utilizes these stories as teachings that can be seen as rise and fall, or sin before punishment
through the law of unintended consequences. The Tower of Babel, a story in Genesis 11, is
centered on a community that want to become more unified and create a good name for
themselves. The people in the community were very smart and did not face many obstacles, and
since they felt unmatched they want to create something that would set them apart from all other
men. Their scheme to accomplish this goal was to erect a tower that reached heights like no other
and reached to the heavens.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The story takes place after the Israelites are freed from Egypt and Moses goes up onto the

of Israel who begin to yarn for God s presence. They wanted to celebrate God through a festival
and an idol, so they go to Arron and request that he makes them an idol so they can celebrate.
Arron creates the Golden Calf as the idol of worship, and while the Israelites believed that they
were doing the right thing in worshiping and honoring God they were breaking a
commandment. When Moses hears of the Israelites tertiary he bargains with God to save the
people and Moses returns to set the people straight. God s punishment for this sin is fulfilled
though Moses as he makes the people drink the calf s remains and orders 3000 people to be killed,

The Pros And Cons Of Surrogacy
Most married couples desired to have a child but unfortunate conditions lead to incompetence. The
inability to conceive left many couples with crashed dream; however, advance technologies found
its way to correct these inabilities. Various types of artificial insemination aid many couples to have
a child. To aid pregnancyor to cure genetic disorder, a chain of processes is conducted called In
Vitro Fertilization (IVF). In this operation, collection of reproductive cell from the ovaries and
sperm is needed. The mature egg will then undergo fertilization and will be implanted to the mother
s reproductive organ. Multiple pregnancy may occur depending on the number of embryo
implanted (IVF, n.d.). The other kind of artificial inseminationis the Donor insemination (DI). In
donor insemination, pregnancy can be achieved through a simple process of inserting semen using
a syringe into the reproductive organ of the woman. Usually, another individual aside from the

the Indian women came from the poverty that urged them to bear children for infertile foreign

  • 2. Teigen Tremper Essay Blonde Haired, Blue Eyed Her blonde hair plastered to her shoulders as she wakes me up for school dripping water on my face and pillow. Her blonde hair gleaming in the lights of the stage as she lets her voice ring into the hearts of many. Her blue eyes scanning her homework for the slightest mistake. Her blue eyes locking with mine telling me stories late at night. Teigen Tremper is my measure of a humanbeing. She has more endurance than you would expect to fit in such a small body, her kindness level is off the charts, and she is extremely intelligent. That doesn t mean that she is perfect, but in a way that makes her more human and a greater measure of one. Teigen doesn t give up. When an A student gets a bad grade on their test, they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She is a 4.0 student with the occasional B+ and would make you the proudest parent by all the comments she receives about how smart she is. Now let me tell you a story: a long time ago my mother lied about my older sister s birthday, the cutoff date was September 10, but my sister s birthday is September 15. Instead of waiting an extra year, Teigen was put in a early. This only became a problem when Teigen was asked to be put in two years ahead in math instead of just one. The only issue was the fact that technically she already was. My point about all of this, is the fact that she isn t only advanced in math, but technically all the other subjects too. So school wise she is perceived as a genius. When she does a math assignment, she will get everything right. On tests, she is the one who gets the highest score when everyone else didn t do so hot. If Teigen writes an essay, it isn t your typical two paged essay, it is a kick butt 6 paged essay. (Unless the essay is limited to two pages, then it will be a kick butt two page essay.) And the worst part is you know that if she dominates essays then it is a given that she is also able to dominate Reflections and any other writing competition she enters. (Just like the AFS one that took her to Ireland.) If you haven t read some of the competition papers she has entered you are seriously missing out. • 3. Tornado Recovery Summary This summary will cover the lessons learned and any suggestions necessary concerning the following disaster. On May 22, 2011 a tornado spawned east of the Missouri Kansas state line from a massive supercell thunderstorm that quickly escalated into an EF 5 monster. This monster tornado tore a half mile to three quarter mile wide path of total destruction through Joplin, Missouri claiming 161 lives (Smith Sutter, 2013). The response by the local and state government was immediate bringing in a combination of public and private sector efforts. Joplin is one of the few disasters that displayed how recovery efforts should be executed. Public sectors after the disaster focused mainly on clearing debris and bringing the community back into normalcy, while the private sector... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One key factor that helped in the timely recovery of Joplin was the massive volunteer sector efforts. There were more than 92,000 registered volunteers that came from the United States and as far away as Japan to help restore the community (Smith Sutter, 2013). To house all of these volunteers FEMA provided temporary housing units for the volunteers and displaced victims. Immediately after the tornado, the American Red Cross set up shelters for the displaced victims and within two weeks of the disaster they also had a long term recovery committee functioning. Along with the tremendous response from public, private, and volunteer sectors the social media network contributed a huge role in coordinating relief. Most notably the local churches of St. Paul and College Heights utilized Facebook to contact churches outside of Joplin bringing in faith based organizations from all over the United States (Smith Sutter, 2013). The most fascinating aspect of Joplin s recovery was the autonomous nature that the private and public sectors were able to perform under. This can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Gender-Polarized Voting In Detroit In the past decade Detroit municipal government has undergone rapid changes in its institutional functions. The city government once allowed for all nine members to be elected at large but since a 2009 referendum was held with overwhelming approval that amended the city charter, Detroit now requires that just seven of its nine councilors be elected via wards or districts while two of the cities councilors are elected at large. The change that occurred in the city of Detroitwas seen by many as being a way of cleaning the city up after decades of corruption crippling the cities political functions and economic growth, and after the forced removal and resignation of the corrupt mayor and council president, the citizens of Detroit sought to clean... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... there are some issues that critics of amending the charter of the City of Detroit do point out. The literature on the representation of women finds precisely the opposite effect for single member districts. While there are some exceptions, the vast majority of the research has concluded that districts are either meaningless (Alozie and Manganero 1993; Bullock and MacManus 1991) or disadvantageous for women candidates. Trounstine and Valdini are quoted as saying . Because women are nearly always between 48% and 52% of a community s population, we cannot expect that they will be aided by districts. Furthermore, there is little evidence of gender polarized voting. A number of studies have found that voters evaluate female candidates drawing on gendered stereotypes and that these stereotypes can affect perceptions about candidates and vote choice. While it can be expected that changing the city charter to elect councilors by district or ward instead of at large may benefit African American and Latino males, there is no clear evidence to support that these changes will benefit white women and women of color any in advancing their ability to hold elected office in Detroit or hold their councilor any more accountable than ... • 6. Analysis Of A Thousand Splendid Suns On the other hand, Khaled Hosseini employs an open plot structure in A Thousand Splendid Suns in order to comment on the effect of assiduity on the possibility of escaping an oppressive environment. In A Thousand Splendid Suns, Hosseini illustrates his narrative through the parallel plotline of his two protagonists Mariam and Laila to design an open, chronological plotstructure. Through the first sentence of A Thousand Splendid Suns, Hosseini establishes that Mariam was five years old the first time she heard the word harami (Hosseini 3). Hosseini s purposeful decision of introducing his main character before all other elements such as the setting and supporting characters illustrates his protagonists significance in the construction of the plot structure s foundation. In order to establish an open, chronological plot structure, Hosseini constantly reminds the readers of the progression of time through the inclusion of the year and Mariam s age. For instance, in the exposition of chapter five, Hosseini declares, It was the spring of 1974, the year Mariam turned fifteen (Hosseini 25). Then in chapter fifteen the last chapter of the first part Hosseini once again states, On April 17, 1978, the year Mariam turned nineteen... (Hosseini 97). Hosseini purposely includes the date along with Mariam s increasing age throughout the chapters for the readers to become cognizant of the novel s chronological format. In addition to illustrating the progression of time through Mariam, Hosseini also mirrors the same structure for his second protagonist, Laila. In the second part of A Thousand Splendid Suns, Hosseini prefaces the chapter with the header Kabul, Spring 1987. Immediately below the header, Hosseini begins the chapter by stating, Nine year old Laila rose from bed, as she did most morning, hungry for the sight of her friend Tariq (Hosseini 107). By introducing Laila through the identical structure utilized when first presenting Mariam, Hosseini provides hints of his wish for readers to juxtapose the two females. Furthermore, by introducing nine year old Laila twenty three years after the introduction of five year old Mariam, Hosseini was able to illustrate Laila s plotline in relation to Mariam s ... Not only did it help me learn the importance of hard work, communication, and teamwork, but it opened my eyes to many other vital skills. The Conservation Corps gave me perspective. I learned to look at people not as their stereotypes, but for the individuals they were. When I was in immersed in nature, I never felt so connected to who I am. I built life long friendships, learned to trust others even when it was difficult, and found parts of myself that I d never seen before. I want to return to the corps because other, easier, jobs wouldn t offer me the same opportunities to grow the skills I originally learned. I would be honored to become a Conservation Corps of MN and IA Wilderness Crew Member. My biggest strength is my adaptability. I always try to have an open mind when I meet others who have different views than me. I see the option for learning in my failures, and always keep in mind my end goal when things don t always go as planned. My biggest weakness is that I always like to be in control. I like to have a plan, and stick to it. I will overcome this weakness by trusting others to take lead, and stop worrying about things I have no control over. I have always been passionate about the environment and especially conservation. I would love to learn about more ways to put conservation into action. This list was inspired by an issue in the Green Lantern comic in which his girlfriend was dismembered and then stuck in the fridge. The issue focused on the suffering and of the Green Lantern and completely ignored hers. Identity is the way one sees themselves and our identity is all we have that s why we protect it and always are trying to make ours better than the others. I believe college is a time where we find our identity, maybe we have an idea on what it is going to be and sometimes it takes us many years to figure it out. In Daniel Marks experience his identity is going to take awhile for him to find if he doesn t change his ways. Daniels before was very rough, he was in trouble a lot. He said he felt like a failure to his father s standards. He enjoys partying very much, this has lead to him being a poor student with a GPA below a 2.0. After hearing all about daniel s story I would categorize him into the Diffusion area. This is because he is just simply doesn t care, he lacks motivation and is only doing enough to barely get by. I can avoid all of these things by sticking to the things I ve been doing and to adjust and use the strategies we have learned in U100. The French invasion of Italy was not only an early part of the Gunpowder Revolution and the beginning of the modern age of warfare, but it was one of the first attempts at building nation states. At the time, Italy was divided into several city states, sovereign regions formed by a city and its surrounding territories. Due to the small size of many city states, their defense was turned over to mercenary captains, condottieri. The paid men who formed compagnie (companies) under the condottieri were most often foreigners who lacked loyalty to their paymasters. On the other hand, as France expanded and took over city states such as Armagnac, Burgundy, Provence, Anjou, and Brittany, they would become a part the French nation and its military. As such, King Charles VIII became the leader of the most powerful state in Europe by advancing the nation state instead of city states. Nearly one and a half centuries later, Swedish King Gustavus II Adolphus would further advance the French artillery techniques and make modern modifications to the formation and maneuver of his troops during the Battle of Breitenfeld in 1631 against Count Johann Tilly, an Imperial commander. Karl Marx was strictly opposed to Capitalism because he believed that it was an extremely unfair and one sided kind of government. He noted that the rich which he called the bourgeoisie kept getting richer by taking advantage of the classes that weren t as fortunate as them. Karl used this difference in class to focus on his own ideal economy, where he spoke of a world where everyone has the same. The Moon landings occurred during the late 1960 s and into the early 1970 s. During this time the United States and the Soviet Union were in a competition known as the Space Race. The main objective during the Space Race was for one country to put a man on the Moon. The competition was getting intense, and both countries began expanding their space programs. During the Space Race and the Apollo missions NASA created over 400,000 jobs making it impossible for all of the workers to keep the events a secret if it were fake (Riley). The technology between the two countries was also top of the line at that time. The Soviet Union could track down the United States every move, so therefore if the moon landings were fake; the Soviet Union would clearly know (Allen). With the technological advancements and the jobs created throughout the process of the Apollo missions, it s obvious that NASA did not fake the Moon landings. Conspiracy theorists believe that the evidence of the flag waving in space, the lighting from the pictures, and the strange shadows from the pictures create it obvious that the Moon landings were all a hoax. This includes the character, Arkady Svidrigailov, who experiences several dreams. Dostoevsky uses Svidrigailov s dream as a representation of his subconscious desires, both pure and impure; this includes his dreams in order to further characterization of Svidrigailov that could not occur through plot events or dialogue. The first of Svidrigailov s dreams begins with a mouse running all over his body. The dream was so strange he thought it was real. Yet, Svidrigailov surprises the reader: But her loose fair hair was wet; there was a wreath of roses on her head. The stern and already rigid profile of her face looked as though chiselled of marble too, and the smile on her pale lips was full of an immense unchildish misery and sorrowful appeal (502). This could be a depiction of Svidrigailov s guilt of raping the young girl. From being familiar with Svidrigailov s character, the reader would not expect him to feel guilty of his action. The final significant dream concludes when he is walking through a corridor and finds a young girl. • 28. The Grasshopper And The Bell Cricket Symbolism Franz Kafka, in The Red Indian, uses an Indian as a symbol of freedom, a life without social constraints. In the story, the narrator longs to be an Indian suddenly vigilant on a galloping horse, until eventually he loses the spurs and the reins, because he doesn t need them, and the horse s neck and head vanish (Kafka 64). Essentially, he is saying that he longs for a freedom he does not have. He wishes to simply ride away from his troubles as an Indian would. She also utilizes the lanterns as a symbol for the personalities or things we try to use to obtain such insects (or people). For instance, Kawabata illustrates the children: Each day [...] the children made new lanterns out of their hearts and minds. Look at my lantern! Be the most unusually beautiful! (66). Kawabata shows that when in pursuit of insects, one must try to put on the best front. The first child who went looking eventually discards his red lantern, because it was too boring. Each day the children make new ones to try to have the best, just as young adults do when pursuing a partner. We each try to have the most flashy personality and look. Therefore, the lanterns are a type of mask that the children put on to find the most attractive bug. The grasshopper, then, is the type of beautiful person one wants to find, and the bell cricket is the less appealing insect. Kawabata suggests that the bell cricket is the better bug, for there are not many bell crickets in the world (67). Probably, Kawabata says, you will find a girl like a grasshopper whom you think is a bell cricket (67). In the end, though, even a true bell cricket will seem like a grasshopper (Kawabata 68). These sentences seem confusing at first, but ultimately Kawabata is saying that the person you want may not be what they seem, the person you find may be more than they appear, and the person you love will be beautiful to you, even if they are not. Women were often considered unqualified for jobs that required physical strength. Men, on the other hand were the breadwinner of the family. The stereotype is very accurate most twins dress, talk, and look the same. However if you were to meet my sister and I you would never guess we are twins. Lauren, my sister does not resemble me at all. We have different facial features, hair, and personality. When we were very little my mom would dress us alike everyday even our pajamas were the same. I can still remember our mom dressing us for the first day of school. The overalls were a charcoal grey with our favorite little mouse with a pretty bright red bow in her hair. Ridesharing companies claims that with their programs such as Uberpool and Lyft Line, it can actually be beneficial for the environment. As the name implies, Uberpool is a carpooling method based on splitting fares with people going to the same place as you. It s environmentally efficient by having less cars on the road because it reduces single rider fares, resulting in less harmfull emissions (Uber). According to Amanda Eaken, a director of transportation and climate at the National Resource Defense Council, 40 percent of emissions in California is from transportation. Additionally, along with the main ideas from A Struggle to Govern the Commons, more emissions raise the atmospheric concentrations of CO2, a known greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. So with this, UberPool and Lyft Line may actually make an effect on helping the environment. However there are limitations to this, it is not currently based by any research, just a theoretical hypothesis. Fortunately, some scientific research is on the way. When Jobs was in his garage with Steve Wozniak about to create the first Apple computer, they had no idea that they would later own one of the biggest and wealthiest companies in the world, and also revolutionize technology and set a precedent for future technology innovators such as themselves. The Apple I, which was Apple s first product, was sold as an assembled circuit board and lacked the basic features that all Apple products have today such as a keyboard, monitor, and case. The Apple I was first introduced to the public at The Homebrew Computer Club. Half of all U.S. households own at least one Apple product, according to CNBC s All America Economic survey. • 39. History of The Ancient Religion Called Wicca One of the greatest myths precipitated about Wicca is that it is an ancient religion. Wicca is not an ancient religion. It has no ties to medieval or even pre ‐Christian religious beliefs. Wicca was inspired by a theory of Margaret Murray, who proposed that there was one organized Cult of Diana. This idea is largely dismissed as inaccurate and Murray s work is considered by scholars to be full of factual errors. Where Wicca began, is with Gerald Gardner in the early 1950 s. Gardner was stationed in India for several years and while he was there, he studied the Hindu religion. He also had an interest in magick and the occult . Once he returned to England and retired, he was initiated into a coven of witches in 1939. This coven was practicing magick and rituals from fragments of undetermined origin. Gardner took these fragments and fleshed them out, adding and changing them until he had something that was workable and more spiritually fulfilling than just the fragments. His work was heavily influenced by Murray s work as well as Leland s Aradia: Gospel of the Witches and his studies into high ceremonial magick, Hinduism, and the work of Alastair Crowley. Crowley s work features fairly prominently in Gardner s work and there is debate about whether or not Gardner hired Crowley, just conversed with him, or possibly stole his work to use. These filled in rituals received another re ‐write in the mid to late 50 s when Gardner initiated Doreen Valiente into his coven. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Labeling Of Plain Packaging On Cigarette Cases, By Harry... With the looming possibility of the implementation of plain packaging on cigarette cases, the lobbyist involved uses certain facts to shed light on the seemingly hidden implications of the plain packaging policy. The main concern of the lobbyist and the advantage point lies within the state of unawareness the majority of the population is left in. The lobbyist essentially claims that the plain packaging policy has no proof of being an effective way of diminishing the smoking population. Though the lobbyist asserts that it is invalid, this research essay will introduce compelling evidence and experimental data that suggests the notion behind the plain packaging policy is actually an efficient method for minimizing the popularity of smoking. This paper will also include opposing point of views that argue otherwise and the issue with their allegations. Before analyzing academic sources that convey the effectiveness of plain packaging, it is crucial to have an understanding of what plain packaging is and how it works. Harry Clarke and David Pentice s article describes plain packaging as the removal of all aesthetic features from tobacco packages. Strictly speaking, a set of explicit specifications determines what a package must have to be considered plain packaged. Some of these provisions include changing brightly colored cigarette packs to packages that contain standardized drab dark brown [colors,] with trade names in a standard font (Clarke Pentice). • 45. The Slave By Frederick Douglass Concepts, techniques, and ways of thinking can last much longer than their creators. The philosophy of Plato is an example of that. Its ideas can be found in a speech written thousands of years later. In What to the Slave is the Fourth of July? Frederick Douglass, a former slave, addresses an audience of white abolitionists on July 5th of 1852. He focuses on the disparity between the American values celebrated on the Independence Day and the issue of slavery. To do so, Douglass raises the question of to whom those values apply and explains why and how it should be different. Analyzing Douglass effort, we see that he is using arguments that trace back to the ancient Platonic ideas to support his stance on the equally ancient question of citizenship. From the beginning of his speech, Frederick Douglass uses specific language to create a distance between him and his audience. Although he calls his listeners fellow citizens, Douglass refers to the United States and its independence as your nation and your freedom. This explains Douglass view of his position in the country: he was a citizen, although not officially recognized as one, but this land was not his. The question of citizenship raised in the U.S. at Douglass time resembles the situation in Athens at Plato s time. There, only 15% of the population were citizens with full rights of participation in the Athenian democracy.
