Double Modals Or Multiple Modals
The structure falls into the more general category of double modals or multiple modals, that is, the use
of two or more modal auxiliaries within the same verb phrase. However, in order to study pragmatic
context and linguistic structure of double modals, other researchers compile naturally occurring
double modals heard or overheard in conversations. Montgomery does find some difference in usage
according to social class: although double modals are used by upper , middle , and lower class
speakers, the percentage of usage in LAGS increases as class decreases. Di Paolo believes that all
Southerners have used a double modal at least once; Montgomery claims that there are some whose
dialect does not include double modals. Double modals are of theoretical syntactic interest because
they appear to violate the phrase structure rule that allows only one modal in the verb phrase.
There are gaps in Standard English, and Southern English has creative ways of filling them. Of course,
not every Southerner speaks the same variety of Southern English.
Double modals like might could are what Wolfram and Fasold refer to as socially diagnostic features,
in that their use identifies social characteristics of the speaker. They are not associated with one
particular variety of Southern English, the way, for example, habitual be characterizes African
American Vernacular English. Although Southern English remains stigmatized as the one variety of
English that is definitely not standard, some

Pythagoras Had Viewed Music As A Science And Believed That...
Pythagoras had viewed music as a science and believed that all could be understood through equations
and ratios. In fact, a pythagorean dream would be to reduce the whole understanding of the world to
number. But, despite Pythagoras, some philosophers and musicians views might differ. In the 20th
century, a series of musicians experimented with thoughts of what music was. Of the many, Theodor
Adorno, Milton Babbitt, and Glenn Gould all express influential thoughts on the subject in differing
ways. First, Theodor Adorno introduces the Aesthetic Theory, which is anchored by the philosophic
study of art. Adorno speaks not only on the focuses of base aesthetic preoccupations such as function
of beauty and greatness in art, but he also speaks on the relationship between art and society. He feels
that modern art shouldn t be limited by the restraints of simply needing to appease the popular or
wealthy. A separation from these restrictions would lead to an expanded critical capacity and increased
formal autonomy. Consequently, this newfound autonomy, though freeing, would give artists a
responsibility for social commentary. However, Adorno does not imply that politicized art is the best
that can come from art. There is a more abstract truth content that can be created. Truth content is
when art challenges ideals or beliefs or hints at how life could be improved upon without actually
changing anything. He focuses on the truth content of the art instead of the subject

Puritans During The English Reformation
The roots of the Puritans are found in the beginning of the English Reformation. Puritans were a
member of a religious reform movement that arose within the Church of England in the sixteenth
century. The Puritans are people who stand for their own belief in the Holy Bible. These Puritans
shared many religious ideologies with the Pilgrims, since they both followed the supporting of French
Theologian, John Calvin. The teachings of Calvinism prescribes that our actions in the living world,
was responsible for what happened to us in the after world. They believed in the sovereignty of God.
This meant that no man had power to hold authority over other men. However this belief coincided
with the concept of a divine nature of kings that the English

The Capulets In William Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy composed by William Shakespeare, based on the long narrative poem
by Arthur Brooke, The Tragical History of Romeus and Juliet, which is based on an earlier Italian
story. The play takes place in Verona, Italy. The exact time period of the text is not directly addressed,
but is supposedly in the 1590 s. The play focuses on two characters, Romeo and Juliet, each from one
of two feuding families, the Montagues and the Capulets. Romeo is of Montague blood while Juliet is
a descendant of the Capulets.
In Act I, Romeo had been in love with Rosaline, a member of the Capulets. He claims that he is deeply
in love, however, she does not feel the same way. Benvolio, the cousin of Romeo, made it his mission

Disadvantages Of Being A Gladiator
What was life as a gladiator? How does it affect humans today? What were the advantages and
disadvantages of being a gladiator? There are so many are so many questions about gladiators that go
unanswered, but now, thanks to archaeologists, we are able to answer those questions. Evidence shows
that being a gladiators had both advantages and disadvantages. A gladiator is an armed fighter who
entertained audiences in the Roman Empire by fighting against other gladiators, wild animals, and
criminals. In late 1st century, Nicolaus of Damascus believed they were Etruscans. A generation later,
the 1st gladiatorial ceremonies were held in 310 BC. It was held by the Campanians in celebration of
their over the Samnites. The Romans were greatly influenced by their predecessors the Etruscans. For
example, the Etruscans always sacrificed an animal before their ceremonies, so the Romans started
doing the same. Gladiators were usually slaves or criminals, but could also be free men. Professionals
gladiators were usually free men, but they were all treated as slaves. Free men still wore shackles and
had to do whatever they were told. Although they were treated as slaves, free men would often be the
most popular amongst the crowd. Criminals and slaves would be set free if they survived 3 5 years as
a gladiator. More than 100 gladiator schools were built throughout the Roman Empire. Gladiators
were sent to school depending on if they were a criminal or not.

The Practice of Code Switching
In a multilingual or bilingual environment, use of code switching is a common practice. This research
aims at finding the attitude of students towards code switching on daily conversation. Nipel (2006)
investigates social culture linguistics where students frequently use code switching a lot as not to
break a conversation that they are participating in. Therefore, code switching is always used by
students who are from the same area and speak the same language. The definition of code switching
has been suggested by many researchers in the past. For example, Wardhaugh (2006) in his book
defined code switching as switching from one code to another in order to create a new code. In other
words, it is defined as a form of identity marker for a group of speakers who use more than one
language. Moreover, Myers Scotton (2006) defined code switching as the use of two different
language types in a single or same conversation. Therefore, code switching is the collocation within
the same conversation between two people who use different grammatical systems while participating
in the conversation. Code Switching occurs when two languages are used in one interaction session
between two bilingual speakers (Young, 2014). Code Switching is mostly used in cases where there is
maintenance of two codes in one language used for communication (Olugbara, 2008). In this literature
study, occurrence of code switching among students is evident in the context of the classroom with
students from

Analysis Of The Film Whale Riders
In the Film Whale Riders, the director Niki Caro, does an excellent job in developing critical themes
combining spiritual and religious traditions resonating with the audience. The compelling themes
demonstrated in the movie such as leadership, change of role in women, connection to nature,
traditions and change are all eloquently presented as the plot unfolds. As a young woman myself, I can
feel empathy towards the main protagonist, Pai, as she puts maximum effort in convincing her
grandfather Koro, that she can be the families next whale rider.
As the movie begins, the tone of Pai s monologue where she describes how her family awaits the birth
of the first born boy who would become chief, moderately sets the the mood for the rest of the film.
Pai, states that there was no gladness was she was born; this is because both her mother and brother [
who was suppose to be the next leader] died. The theme of leadership is presented as Koro searches
for a new Maori leader. As Pai s dad, Porourangi, denies leadership due to the death of his wife, Koro
searches for leadership elsewhere; overlooking Pai s ability to do so because of her sex. Pai displays
leadership in wanting to aid her community in being the next whale rider by attempting to attend her
grandfather schooling and learning Mau raku (stick fighting) from her uncle whom she privately
learns from.
As Pai s conquest to become leader progress, she unravels the theme of role changing. An interesting
factor that I noticed

The, Moral, And Moral Relativism
On the perfectionist account there exists an established categorization of the moral status of conscious
persons or beings. The moral perfectionist maintains that morality is hierarchical, which is to say that
they hold that differentially weighted considerations should be given to different beings depending on
the level to which they possess certain characteristics. For example, throughout the history of western
philosophy one of the most popularly touted of the characteristics of higher order moral agents has
been the possession of formal language. Consider, then, the non human animal from this perspective
from a Heideggarian perspective, if you will. According to Heidegger (2001), the Animal does not die;
it merely perishes and is, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is meant to show that animality is the metaphysical candle which casts a shadow over whatever
being is to be made morally incomparable to the Human. To substantiate this claim we can consider
that from the historical perspective, the subjugation of humans from women, slaves, the cognitively
and physically disabled, to the ethnic or religious minority has been accompanied by attempts to
ensure that they are animalized . By attempts to ensure that they are excluded from the moral
community a delegation attributed to their lack of the fundamental features or qualities of moral
agents. Fortunately, though not necessarily consistently, in the Western liberal modernity, such
animalized individuals have come to be afforded the same rights as other members of the human
community, despite their lack of many of the qualities which have typically been used to affirm the
moral importance of a human being. Again, although this is a fortunate transition, it is rather
inconsistent one if we are to reflect on the ways in which we typically distinguish the Animal from the
Human. Indeed, if we are to suggest that all humans have some sort of inherent rights either ascribed
or discovered it does not seem unreasonable to suggest that such possessions must be predicated on
the presence or absence of

Early Church Fathers Research Paper
Brothers, what shall we do? Acts 2 relates the story of the first time the message of the gospel is given.
The people are convicted and desire to respond. Peter answers by telling them they must repent and be
baptized. Christian initiation into the church began with these two simple commands. However, during
first three centuries of the early church, an increasingly complex system of initiation of new believers
began to be defined by the early church fathers. The need for a more formalized structure of church
practices arose as the Christian church and its message were presented with heresies, persecution, and

Compare And Contrast Erasmus And Luther
Erasmus and Luther on The Reformation
Religion was understood as the upmost critical part of a person s life during the European Middle
Ages. Christians believed the only way to Heaven was through good works. To gain penance for their
sins, Christians would travel on pilgrimages to complete a journey to a holy site. When popes began to
abuse papal authority during this time, Christians could pay indulgences to be forgiven of their
committed sins. Papal authority had been corrupted by practices which were not Biblical through
proposing that Christians could be saved by payment, and not by accepting God s grace. Because of
these actions, attention was drawn to the foundations of the doctrine of the Church. The Church was in
need of fixing. Two reformers, Desiderius Erasmus and Martin Luther, spoke out to do this. Both
Erasmus and Luther desired to reform the church because they had similar viewpoints on the abusive
power. The way that the two decided to go about reformation was different. Erasmus was poor,
humanist, and reserved, whereas Luther was not poor, a theologian, and bold. Although Erasmus and
Luther shared a common goal for Christians to live by the scripture, similarities and differences were
present in their approach to church reform due to their past experiences, education received, and
amount of audacity.
To begin, the past experiences of Erasmus and Luther affected their approach to reformation.
Desiderius Erasmus was born in 1466 and died in 1536.

The Role of the British East India Company Essay
British East India Company played a significant yet strange part in the Indian. It was, at its inception,
a commercial venture in the history of The British Empire, which was established in the year 1600 in
the subcontinent. The main reason for entering the subcontinent was trade, making money and
importing spices from South Asia. It was the Portuguese who used all their skills and their
navigational technology to enter this great area first, and start trade in the most profitable manner they
could. East India Company entered as an early and old fashioned venture, and conducted a separate
business with their private stockholders. Their approach and their trade lasted for many years until
year 1657 (Farrington 5), when they made their base ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soon after, the British started their own voyages and the first attempt to start trade with China, under
the Captain Benjamin Wood, was undertaken in 1596. However, the ship did not reach its destination;
instead it was lost without any trace. Forty years later, in 1637, Captain Wendell reached China
successfully and tried to open trade negotiations with Chinese locals but he was resisted and sent on
his way. His ship was destroyed on his journey back home. Ten years after the Dutch East India
Company was expelled from China, English East India Company finally set up a post in Taiwan, in
1672. By the 1700 s this base was shifted to Canton and EIC granted the monopoly of trade until
1833. Despite the many restrictions on trading by the government, the Chinese trade flourished, and in
the 18th century, the East India Company traded woollens from Britain and cottons from India in
exchange for Chinese tea, silk and porcelain. Out of these, tea became the largest item to be traded by
the British (Robins 18 33). However, as the demand for tea increased, the items the British were
exchanging for it, like the Indian cottons, were not enough to meet these demands. They started
looking for other items to trade instead, to increase their profits, and found opium to be the best deal.
The EIC were already growing opium in India, mainly for medicinal purposes, and although opium

Cyberbullying And Its Effect On Society
About 97% of today s youth are connected to the internet in some way, and about 20 40% have
experienced some form of cyberbullying at least once.1 This means that about 200 400 million people
between the age of 15 and 24 have been cyberbullied. Cyberbullying has been an issue since the
internet was first introduced for public use, and it is still a rising issue today. That is why it is our job
to fix it.
What is cyberbullying? you may be wondering. According to Dictionary.com, cyberbullying is the act
of harassing someone online by sending or posting mean messages, usually anonymously .2 A strong
example of cyberbullying would be a scenario in which someone at a school or place of work were to
get a hold of someone s phone number, and repeatedly send them mean or intimidating texts that cause
them to become stressed, worried, angry, depressed, or even suicidal, overall having a significant
negative effect on their work ethic. Another example of cyberbullying would be if someone were to
take an embarrassing photo or video of a peer and spread it around through online social media,
causing people to make fun of that person, or even bully them more, and overall resulting in
significant negative effects on their daily life and reputation, and sometimes, in rare cases, suicide.
While cyberbullying is less frequent than traditional bullying,3 it is still a major issue for people
worldwide, especially youth. Studies have shown that over half of school students are bully

John Steinbeck s East Of Eden
I. SUBJECT John Steinbeck s East of Eden centers on the Trask and Hamilton families in the year
1902 in the Salinas Valley, California. After growing up in Connecticut alongside his brother Charles
under the harsh parenting and rejection of his father, Adam Trask seeks to find happiness and peace.
He vows to be a better man than his father and feels the rolling valleys of California calling him. One
night, Cathy Ames crawls onto the doorstep of Adam and Charles home after her boyfriend attempted
to kill her. Adam cares for Cathy and soon falls in love with the woman she portrays herself to be. He

and wants her to leave their home. As ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is through the opposition of one another that an absence of the love they so earnestly desire is bred.
Rejection is first present in Cyrus Trask s raising of his two sons, Adam and Charles. Cyrus utilizes a
harsh parenting style, one in which he trains his sons for the military from a young age. Charles excels
at the rigorous trainings, while Adam struggles and begins to develop a hatred for his father. As Cyrus
pushes Adam harder, a favoring of one son over the other is apparent. Cyrus favors Adam because he
feels he is the stronger and better son, I love you better. I always have...Else why would I have given
myself the trouble of hurting you? (Steinbeck 28). Charles feels rejected and works to gain his father s
approval, but Cyrus continues to favor Adam regardless of Charles efforts. It is due to this rejection
that Charles develops a sensitive and violent personality, Rage came first and then a coldness, a
possession; noncommittal eyes and a pleased smile and no voice at all, only a whisper. When that
happened murder was on the way (30). Charles violence and anger are a failing effort to fight for love,
which in return only makes him a broken man. Cathy Ames is an example of how rejection by one
woman can lead to the downfall of all those around her. Cathy was born an enigma and used this to
manipulate others. People were drawn to her out of curiosity so in return she lures them in and then
swiftly rejects them. They would

Evaluation of Euripides Essay
Evaluation of Euripides Euripides has met the conventions of Attic Tragedy up to a particular extent.
Although he was often criticised for his work, he followed the structure and cycles of the traditional
tragedy. However, his stance on the themes and ideas set him apart from the other writers.
It is unreasonable to compare Euripides with the traditional writers of Attic tragedy without
understanding his attitude and the reason for this attitude. Although he was only fifteen years older
than Sophocles, he belonged to a whole different generation. Between them lay the chasm of the
Sophists moment. The Sophists were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Attic tragedian plays traditionally follow a predetermined structure and cycle. This convention was
used to characterise the play. In Euripides Medea, we see this tradition upheld. Essentially, the play
was split into five cycles, consisting of the Olbos, Hubris, Pythos, Até and Nemesis. In Medea, the
ideas run parallel with these cycle and conventions are maintained.
However, in the Pythos cycle, rather than focusing on the gods divine envy, he focuses on an all too
human aspect jealousy. Medea is overcome with jealousy after Jason takes another woman as his wife.
Once again, Euripides has abandoned the conventional ideas and replaced it with his own thoughts.
On the other hand, Euripides maintains the structure of the play in traditional convention, and his play
follows closely with the Prologos, Parados, Episodia, Stasima and Exodus.
But, to analyse the play, we must look closely at what conventions Euripides has used, as well as how
he has used them.
The Chorus was an essential part of every play. As such Euripides has used a chorus in his play to
represent the Corinthian women. However, in other tragedies, the chorus played a much mor, detached
role. They were important as narrators of commentators to what was actually occurring. But in

Or perhaps it is (d) a request for a motive to be moral.
(2) If Alf s question is of type (a) or (c), it s silly. Nothing could be more obvious than that Alf has a
moral reason to be moral. It s a plain fact that being moral is the moral thing to do it s the option
justified from the moral point of view and this is clearly a reason for Alf to be moral.
(3) If Alf s question is of type (b) or (d) it s unreasonable; hence we need not bother with it. Moral
philosophy aims at rational persuasion, not at generating motives to act. Nor does it aim to justify
morality in terms of prudence, law, custom, or etiquette. Indeed, such a justification is impossible. But
we should not be disturbed about this. The moral life is not called into question by showing that it
does not reduce to a concern for custom, prudence, etc., any more than prudence is called into

with dementia might say. Many patients with dementia lose their memories of growing up and may
think they are a child again. Or perhaps they think they are still at home and caring for their families.
You could see why some dementia patients may be upset or have behaviors because of this. Not every
person with dementia is the same, but most symptoms are similar. In the knowledge of health science
there are four different types of dementia which are Vascular Dementia, Lewy Body Dementia,
Frontotemporal Dementia and the Alzheimer s disease. Questions about Dementia may still be
unsolved about how this disease was originally derived, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Instead of labeling it Alzheimer s, Dementia differs because it can happen any age. In 2015, the
Alzheimer s Disease International estimated that about 46.8 million people worldwide live with
dementia and these statistics will most likely double every twenty years. The most rapid growth of
dementia in the elderly is currently taking place in China, India and the other surrounding Asian
countries due to them being developing countries.
Dementia is a chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by a brain disease or injury
and marked by memory disorders, personality changes, and impaired reasoning. (Merriam Webster
Dictionary). A simpler way to define dementia is that it is a mental illness that causes someone to be
unable to think clearly or to understand what is real and what is not real, the Merriam Webster
dictionary illustrates. Dementia is the leading illness to the common case of Alzheimer s. Dementia is
not a disease, it s an overall term that describes a wide range of symptoms. Dementia isn t a specific
disease. Instead, dementia describes a group of symptoms affecting memory, thinking and social
abilities severely enough to interfere with daily functioning. (Mayo Clinic Staff). Dementia can best
be described as a decline in memory or other thinking skills severe enough to reduce a person s ability
to perform everyday activities. People with dementia often forget things,

Different Roles of Irony in Fussell Essay
Different Roles of Irony in Fussell
The excessive use of irony throughout World War I literature paints a colorful scheme of
thoughtfulness and style. Paul Fussell gives one explanation in The Great War and Modern Memory
by stating that the war itself is ironic because every war is worse than expected. Every war constitutes
an irony of situation because its means are so melodramatically disproportionate to its presumed ends
(7). Writers obviously realized the irony of war and in turn wrote in this style maybe not by intention,
but because it was inescapable. Providing a feeling of sorrow and pity seems to motivate Siegfried
Sassoon in his poem titled The Hero in which an officer tells a mother that her son was brave ... Show

Interestingly Owen uses irony when writing letters home to his mother. In Wilfred Owen: Collected
Letters he writes on 16 January 1917: Three quarters dead, then realizing the implications and irony he
corrected himself by writing #8230;I mean each of us ¾ dead #8230;(393) . Other examples of the
accidental use of irony exist throughout WWI literature I m sure.
Fussell argues that the use of irony comes from memory. He states that irony is a tool used to recollect
certain events that would otherwise go unnoticed . What assists #8230;recall is precisely the ironic
pattern which subsequent vision has laid over the events (Modern 30). Fussell uses Gunner Charles
Bricknall as an example of this phenomenon . Bricknall recalls seeing new troops standing along an
often shelled road and telling the recruits about the danger. Bricknall wrote Ho, what a disaster! We
had to go shooting lame horses, putting the dead to the side of the road, what a disaster, which could
have been avoid if only the officers had gone into action the hard way. That was something I shall
never forget (31). Fussell continues that A

It can also be the new method of doing things, or a technical improvement. Once it is granted, the term
of a patent is 20 years from the Date of Filing, subject to the payment of annual renewal fees. A patent
can also be employed to raise funds for your business and licensing it to third parties for commercial
returns.
There are three criteria for an invention to be patentable. The first criteria is New. The invention
should not be publicly known in anyway or anywhere around the world. The owners of invention
should be careful in keeping the invention as secret until a patent application has been successfully
made. If the idea has already been commercially exploited, demonstrated or advertised, the novelty of
it may be compromised. If the invention requires disclosure to a third party before the patent
application is made, a non disclosure agreement should be drawn up.
The second criteria is inventive step. The invention must be a representation of improvement over any
existing product or process that is already available. The improvement cannot be obvious to someone
with technical skills or knowledge in its particular field. The invention would not fulfil the
requirements of this criteria if it is obvious to a person skilled in the art, even though it is new.
The third criteria is industrial application. The invention must be useful and have some form of
practical application. It

Analysis Of Akira Kurosawa ( 1910-1998 )
Akira Kurosawa (1910 1998) was one of Japan s most important film directors of the twentieth
century. His work spanned over fifty years and included a broad range of genres from historical epics
to gangster dramas. His films not only told interesting stories but also broke new ground. Many of his
innovations were technical, such as his use of the long lens, his penchant for shooting with multiple
cameras, and his virtuosic editing. Other innovations were tied to his emphasis on details within his
films, such as elaborate period costumes and sets, western music, stunning location shots, and detailed
miniature sets. As to specific reasons, I think much of it comes down a confusion between theme and
technique. I don t see any reason to question Kurosawa s word that all his films were Japanese and
aimed solely at a Japanese audience. However, many writers on the topic saw camera movements or
set ups that resembled John Ford, read about Kurosawa s admiration for westerns and American pulp
fiction, and added it up into a bland statement of Kurosawa being an essentially Western film maker.
And Japanese critics, puzzled about why he was so popular in the West compared to other film
makers, decided this is right. He has often been called the most Western of Japanese film directors
(and is certainly the best known of them in Europe and America), but though he freely admits
influence from Western directors and painters and has based several of his films on major Western
texts, he

Catheterization Research Paper
Catheters are tubes that are used to drain fluids from the body. They are often employed in removing
the fluid from the urinary bladder and therefore, are an important element in urology care. It is
important to understand their importance and correct use, if you are looking to take care of a patient. It
used in a variety of environments.
Here, we first look at how catheters are used and then discuss the problems that may appear when they
are not used in the proper manner.
Catheters in Urology Care
Catheters are basically connected either to a bodily vessel or a cavity. They can be used to either drain
body fluids or push medicine into the body. Catheterization can be done, using a number of needles
and tubes. Some of them are soft while some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are easily employed by a patient or a trained caregiver at home and therefore, ensure that they
can be used in different circumstances. They are perfect for people who have lost their urinary control
due to a variety of reasons.
The advantage of this method is that you can avoid constant catheterization which is associated with
several problems, such as male infertility and tract infections. The method also ensures that patients
can keep their bladder pressure low throughout the day. These catheters do not cause prolonged issues
and can easily be avoided once the person is able to use ordinary methods.
Foley Catheter A Foley catheter is designed to be connected to the bladder through the urethra. It is the
most commonly used catheter in urology care. It has two channels with one open and the other one
with a balloon. The open channel is used to drain urine out while the closed channel is used to inflate
the balloon. The inflation keeps a Foley catheter in place. These catheters are created these days from
silicone rubber.
They should only be used when indicated by a medical practitioner. As they are inserted through the
urethra, they carry a greater risk of infections and other side effects.

The Domestic Arena Of The Public Sphere
From the Domestic Arena to the Public Sphere
Before the 1920s, under the colonial rules of Japan, the Korean male intellectuals claimed women s
equal rights because they realized the necessity for the new role of women for the nation building and
strengthening. To put it differently, the male nationalists designed and developed the ideal roles of
women. As a result, although women were given equal rights, a woman s role remained in the
domestic arena as a good wife, wise mother.
In the 1920s, when intellectual New Women began to engage in creating gender discourse, they
enhanced women s roles in social relationship and power structure. Namely, New Women aimed to

Specifically, in the Self Awakening of Women in 1920, Kim states, woman s life should be equal to
man s life, and the goal of woman s life should be equal to that of man (31). It means women should
be respected as the independent subjects in the public sphere as men, and women s roles could be
expanded in terms of their own criteria. In the statement, Kim s aspiration further asserts women have
autonomy to construct their own roles in the public sphere without any restriction. Similarly, in What
Does Freedom Mean for Women in 1925, Yi states that women should strive to become a decent
worker for society, to become a good companion for one s family (37). Notably, Yi shows her ideal
roles of women to be recognized as not only members of the family, but also workers for society, and
the contributors to the colonized nation. Thus, Yi Chŏnghŭi s aspiration also targets the expansion of
the women s role. In addition, in An Observation on the Status of Women in 1926, Im claims it is
women s responsibility to call for women s liberation on their own and to improve the lower than zero
status of women for true happiness in human society (38, 39). In her argument, Im implies the new
ideal role of women should contain their civil duties. It means women could be defined as citizens in
the public sphere, and they should

Plate Tectonics And Its Effects On The World
Maybe the most ideal approach to see how Pinnacles started is to envision that you are viewing a
video shot somewhere in the range of 60 million years prior completion at the present time. Not
wishing to see something that is milleniums long, you accelerate the activity by keeping your finger
on the quick forward catch. Regardless. At last regardless you know the story all around ok to rehash
it.
Plate Tectonics
At the point when the video starts, the mainlands have the structure we know today; the vast majority
of the world s extraordinary mountain reaches are set up, and the Pacific Ocean is so far inland that a
large portion of California s beach front mountains don t exist. Yet, they are going to be conceived on
account of something many refer to as plate tectonics.
Geologists trust that the world s hull is isolated into huge plates that fit together like the bits of a
mammoth jigsaw riddle. These plates are thought to move persistently, for the most part on a level
plane. As per geologic hypothesis, the plates meet in no less than three ways, and two of these are
imperative to our story: subduction zones (where one plate moves underneath the other), and change
limits (where the two plates grind past each other). At some point around sixty million years prior,
when our video starts, the lighter weight North American Plate started abrogating or subducting the
denser Farallon plate, and as it did, its external edge went about as a bulldozer, gathering up

Andre Derain The Turning Road Analysis
Gianna Sorola Professor Reed Art Appreciation 1301 18 October 2017 The Turning Road, L Estaque
Andre Derain Andrè Derain, born in Chatou, France in 1880 was one of the few leaders of the
Fauvists movement (although only lasting three short years). Playing a vital part in this new
movement, it enabled him to achieve recognition in all of his paintings. Fauvists was created in the
early twentieth century, by modern artist whom emphasized painterly qualities. By having strong,
vibrant colors that represent realistic values. This style of art was inspired by the impressionists era,
they (the founding leaders of fauvists) wanted to capture the impact of lighting and the atmosphere
within. The word Fauve translates into wild beast ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Derain adds variation to the shapes to create several forms within the painting. The turning roads are
created and flow freely for the fact that the free form arc. From what I can infer, the last tree on the
right was altered by making it thicker on the edges. Many of the forms are characterized by the trees,
bridges, buildings and people. Nevertheless, other forms can be considered non characterized and just
serve to increase the elegance of the painting. Although, he avoided using three dimensional forms to
the best of his ability to attempt of the curve road that displayed three planes. Across the other forms,
they are implied three dimensional. The appearance of three dimensional was reached by using tonal
techniques, which were shading and smearing. When Andrè Derain was painting in a three
dimensional style, it was to portray the trees and walkway in different angles. This allowed the
observers to see the foreground. Although, using one perspective style, the features throughout the
background appear to disappear into the horizon, therefore being unclear. The main type of lines used
in The Turning Road are extremely pronounced, strong, thick and dark. However, through the
painting, some of the lines are thin in certain part of areas to avoid the attention. This would stimulate
the different textures throughout the painting. With the textures of the painting it would also trigger
the motion of the painting. In the works of The Turning Road,

The Pros And Cons Of Voter Voting
Many teens may argue that they should have a say and opinion in elections, but others believe they are
too young and don t know a thing about politics. The usual voting age is 18 years old, which is still
counts as a teenager but by that age, it is considered to be legal. They are more mature and have a little
more knowledge about what is happening around the world. In the article, Takoma Park 16 year old
savors his history making moment at the polls written by Annys Shin states that the 26th Amendment
has granted 18 year olds the opportunity to vote around the mid 1900 s. Although the government has
concerns on the percentage of people who vote, having younger applicants vote, will not make much
of a difference because they are not well informed yet about the rules and how the government works.
The total amount percentage of the voting rate has been decreasing every year, simply because citizens
who are eligible to vote do not have enough time on their hands to vote. During the last municipal
elections in 2011, a meager 19 percent of eligible voters showed up at the polls, according to Jessie
Carpenter (Shin). Teens believe that if they are allowed to cast a vote, it will make a major difference
in elections and have a much better impact. Voter apathy has been a worldwide problem with citizens
because many do not vote due to the fact that they have a job and are not allowed to leave because
they really need that money or because they must attend school. One of the

Death Of A Leader In Walt Whitman s O Captain My Captain
Many Leaders lack the ability to move people. Mourning the death of a leader is an even bigger task
to take on. Abraham Lincoln, in this case was an exception. In the famous poem, O Captain! My
Captain! Written by, Walt Whitman in the year 1865. The poem, refers to a terrible event in American
history; the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Instead of the country celebrating and
rejoicing over the ending of the Civil War and being happy over the country being kept whole,
everyone was mourning in the loss of their leader. Aboard a ship, the poem is about a fellow sailor
grieving from the loss of his captain. The sailor in the poem is singing a song that praises his captain
for leading them safely on their voyage and leading them back home. As the other sailors are
celebrating their homecoming with everyone on shore, the sailor notices the captain. He is dead, lying
on the deck of the ship fallen cold and dead (line 8). The sailor goes on and mournfully walks on the
deck where the captain had died while the people on shore are unaware of their fallen leader. Rise up
and hear the bells; (Line 9). The sailor says wishing his captain could witness the excitement.
Everyone adored the captain and admitted that his death feels like a terrible dream, It is some dream
that on the deck, you ve fallen cold and dead. (Lines 15 16). Then in the final stanza of the poem, the
sailor puts together his feelings of mourning and pride. (Whitman)

Argumentative Essay On Iwo Jima
Iwo Jima is the most important memorial to me because it represents the turning point for America in
World War II when we finally started taking charge over the Japanese. Iwo Jima was an amazingly
fought battle where the Americans lost 26,000 marines, but the Japanese only lost 22,000 of their men.
Yet, we still won. It was an incredible victory for us. It is the only battle the marines won with their
own casualties exceeding the enemies casualties. Joe Rosenthal s picture of the flag being raised at
Iwo Jima is truly remarkable. The idea that he could capture the moment of the six marines hauling
the American flag up the side of the mountain is impressive. Those man of history were Sergeant
Michael Strank, Corporal Harlon Block, and Private First Class Franklin Sousley who sadly were
killed in action over the next few days. The three surviving flag raisers in the photograph were
Corporals Rene Gagon, Ira Hayes, and Harold Scultz. Who knows if we would have beaten the
Japanese had we not gained Iwo Jima? Americans needed a naval base and the Japanese island of Iwo
Jima had two. The Japanese were controlling the air, and we needed a base to send our naval aircraft
carriers out to sea in order to take down the Imperial Japanese Air Force. Plus, Iwo Jima being very
close to Japan was of great strategic importance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You never know who to believe. You would have thought that they would have been slaughtered by
the Japanese s heavy guns when they ran up that mountain; but you never know, it could have simply

were quite stealthy going up the mountain during the cover of night. What a surprise for the Japanese
when they woke up to see the American flag at the top of the mountain and tons of American Marines

  • 2. Double Modals Or Multiple Modals The structure falls into the more general category of double modals or multiple modals, that is, the use of two or more modal auxiliaries within the same verb phrase. However, in order to study pragmatic context and linguistic structure of double modals, other researchers compile naturally occurring double modals heard or overheard in conversations. Montgomery does find some difference in usage according to social class: although double modals are used by upper , middle , and lower class speakers, the percentage of usage in LAGS increases as class decreases. Di Paolo believes that all Southerners have used a double modal at least once; Montgomery claims that there are some whose dialect does not include double modals. Double modals are of theoretical syntactic interest because they appear to violate the phrase structure rule that allows only one modal in the verb phrase. There are gaps in Standard English, and Southern English has creative ways of filling them. Of course, not every Southerner speaks the same variety of Southern English. Double modals like might could are what Wolfram and Fasold refer to as socially diagnostic features, in that their use identifies social characteristics of the speaker. They are not associated with one particular variety of Southern English, the way, for example, habitual be characterizes African American Vernacular English. Although Southern English remains stigmatized as the one variety of English that is definitely not standard, some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Pythagoras Had Viewed Music As A Science And Believed That... Pythagoras had viewed music as a science and believed that all could be understood through equations and ratios. In fact, a pythagorean dream would be to reduce the whole understanding of the world to number. But, despite Pythagoras, some philosophers and musicians views might differ. In the 20th century, a series of musicians experimented with thoughts of what music was. Of the many, Theodor Adorno, Milton Babbitt, and Glenn Gould all express influential thoughts on the subject in differing ways. First, Theodor Adorno introduces the Aesthetic Theory, which is anchored by the philosophic study of art. Adorno speaks not only on the focuses of base aesthetic preoccupations such as function of beauty and greatness in art, but he also speaks on the relationship between art and society. He feels that modern art shouldn t be limited by the restraints of simply needing to appease the popular or wealthy. A separation from these restrictions would lead to an expanded critical capacity and increased formal autonomy. Consequently, this newfound autonomy, though freeing, would give artists a responsibility for social commentary. However, Adorno does not imply that politicized art is the best that can come from art. There is a more abstract truth content that can be created. Truth content is when art challenges ideals or beliefs or hints at how life could be improved upon without actually changing anything. He focuses on the truth content of the art instead of the subject ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Disadvantages Of Being A Gladiator What was life as a gladiator? How does it affect humans today? What were the advantages and disadvantages of being a gladiator? There are so many are so many questions about gladiators that go unanswered, but now, thanks to archaeologists, we are able to answer those questions. Evidence shows that being a gladiators had both advantages and disadvantages. A gladiator is an armed fighter who entertained audiences in the Roman Empire by fighting against other gladiators, wild animals, and criminals. In late 1st century, Nicolaus of Damascus believed they were Etruscans. A generation later, the 1st gladiatorial ceremonies were held in 310 BC. It was held by the Campanians in celebration of their over the Samnites. The Romans were greatly influenced by their predecessors the Etruscans. For example, the Etruscans always sacrificed an animal before their ceremonies, so the Romans started doing the same. Gladiators were usually slaves or criminals, but could also be free men. Professionals gladiators were usually free men, but they were all treated as slaves. Free men still wore shackles and had to do whatever they were told. Although they were treated as slaves, free men would often be the most popular amongst the crowd. Criminals and slaves would be set free if they survived 3 5 years as a gladiator. • 8. The Practice of Code Switching In a multilingual or bilingual environment, use of code switching is a common practice. This research aims at finding the attitude of students towards code switching on daily conversation. Nipel (2006) investigates social culture linguistics where students frequently use code switching a lot as not to break a conversation that they are participating in. Therefore, code switching is always used by students who are from the same area and speak the same language. The definition of code switching has been suggested by many researchers in the past. For example, Wardhaugh (2006) in his book defined code switching as switching from one code to another in order to create a new code. In other words, it is defined as a form of identity marker for a group of speakers who use more than one language. Moreover, Myers Scotton (2006) defined code switching as the use of two different language types in a single or same conversation. Therefore, code switching is the collocation within the same conversation between two people who use different grammatical systems while participating in the conversation. Code Switching occurs when two languages are used in one interaction session between two bilingual speakers (Young, 2014). Code Switching is mostly used in cases where there is maintenance of two codes in one language used for communication (Olugbara, 2008). In this literature study, occurrence of code switching among students is evident in the context of the classroom with students from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Analysis Of The Film Whale Riders In the Film Whale Riders, the director Niki Caro, does an excellent job in developing critical themes combining spiritual and religious traditions resonating with the audience. The compelling themes demonstrated in the movie such as leadership, change of role in women, connection to nature, traditions and change are all eloquently presented as the plot unfolds. As a young woman myself, I can feel empathy towards the main protagonist, Pai, as she puts maximum effort in convincing her grandfather Koro, that she can be the families next whale rider. As the movie begins, the tone of Pai s monologue where she describes how her family awaits the birth of the first born boy who would become chief, moderately sets the the mood for the rest of the film. Pai, states that there was no gladness was she was born; this is because both her mother and brother [ who was suppose to be the next leader] died. The theme of leadership is presented as Koro searches for a new Maori leader. As Pai s dad, Porourangi, denies leadership due to the death of his wife, Koro searches for leadership elsewhere; overlooking Pai s ability to do so because of her sex. Pai displays leadership in wanting to aid her community in being the next whale rider by attempting to attend her grandfather schooling and learning Mau raku (stick fighting) from her uncle whom she privately learns from. As Pai s conquest to become leader progress, she unravels the theme of role changing. An interesting factor that I noticed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The, Moral, And Moral Relativism On the perfectionist account there exists an established categorization of the moral status of conscious persons or beings. The moral perfectionist maintains that morality is hierarchical, which is to say that they hold that differentially weighted considerations should be given to different beings depending on the level to which they possess certain characteristics. For example, throughout the history of western philosophy one of the most popularly touted of the characteristics of higher order moral agents has been the possession of formal language. Consider, then, the non human animal from this perspective from a Heideggarian perspective, if you will. According to Heidegger (2001), the Animal does not die; it merely perishes and is, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is meant to show that animality is the metaphysical candle which casts a shadow over whatever being is to be made morally incomparable to the Human. To substantiate this claim we can consider that from the historical perspective, the subjugation of humans from women, slaves, the cognitively and physically disabled, to the ethnic or religious minority has been accompanied by attempts to ensure that they are animalized . By attempts to ensure that they are excluded from the moral community a delegation attributed to their lack of the fundamental features or qualities of moral agents. Fortunately, though not necessarily consistently, in the Western liberal modernity, such animalized individuals have come to be afforded the same rights as other members of the human community, despite their lack of many of the qualities which have typically been used to affirm the moral importance of a human being. Again, although this is a fortunate transition, it is rather inconsistent one if we are to reflect on the ways in which we typically distinguish the Animal from the Human. Indeed, if we are to suggest that all humans have some sort of inherent rights either ascribed or discovered it does not seem unreasonable to suggest that such possessions must be predicated on the presence or absence of ... Peter answers by telling them they must repent and be baptized. Christian initiation into the church began with these two simple commands. However, during first three centuries of the early church, an increasingly complex system of initiation of new believers began to be defined by the early church fathers. The need for a more formalized structure of church practices arose as the Christian church and its message were presented with heresies, persecution, and an ever increasing population. • 13. Compare And Contrast Erasmus And Luther Erasmus and Luther on The Reformation Religion was understood as the upmost critical part of a person s life during the European Middle Ages. Christians believed the only way to Heaven was through good works. To gain penance for their sins, Christians would travel on pilgrimages to complete a journey to a holy site. When popes began to abuse papal authority during this time, Christians could pay indulgences to be forgiven of their committed sins. Papal authority had been corrupted by practices which were not Biblical through proposing that Christians could be saved by payment, and not by accepting God s grace. Because of these actions, attention was drawn to the foundations of the doctrine of the Church. The Church was in need of fixing. Two reformers, Desiderius Erasmus and Martin Luther, spoke out to do this. Both Erasmus and Luther desired to reform the church because they had similar viewpoints on the abusive power. The way that the two decided to go about reformation was different. Erasmus was poor, humanist, and reserved, whereas Luther was not poor, a theologian, and bold. Although Erasmus and Luther shared a common goal for Christians to live by the scripture, similarities and differences were present in their approach to church reform due to their past experiences, education received, and amount of audacity. To begin, the past experiences of Erasmus and Luther affected their approach to reformation. Desiderius Erasmus was born in 1466 and died in 1536. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was, at its inception, a commercial venture in the history of The British Empire, which was established in the year 1600 in the subcontinent. The main reason for entering the subcontinent was trade, making money and importing spices from South Asia. It was the Portuguese who used all their skills and their navigational technology to enter this great area first, and start trade in the most profitable manner they could. His ship was destroyed on his journey back home. Ten years after the Dutch East India Company was expelled from China, English East India Company finally set up a post in Taiwan, in 1672. By the 1700 s this base was shifted to Canton and EIC granted the monopoly of trade until 1833. Despite the many restrictions on trading by the government, the Chinese trade flourished, and in the 18th century, the East India Company traded woollens from Britain and cottons from India in exchange for Chinese tea, silk and porcelain. Out of these, tea became the largest item to be traded by the British (Robins 18 33). However, as the demand for tea increased, the items the British were exchanging for it, like the Indian cottons, were not enough to meet these demands. They started looking for other items to trade instead, to increase their profits, and found opium to be the best deal. Another example of cyberbullying would be if someone were to take an embarrassing photo or video of a peer and spread it around through online social media, causing people to make fun of that person, or even bully them more, and overall resulting in significant negative effects on their daily life and reputation, and sometimes, in rare cases, suicide. Charles excels at the rigorous trainings, while Adam struggles and begins to develop a hatred for his father. As Cyrus pushes Adam harder, a favoring of one son over the other is apparent. When that happened murder was on the way (30). Charles violence and anger are a failing effort to fight for love, which in return only makes him a broken man. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Attic tragedian plays traditionally follow a predetermined structure and cycle. This convention was used to characterise the play. In Euripides Medea, we see this tradition upheld. Essentially, the play was split into five cycles, consisting of the Olbos, Hubris, Pythos, Até and Nemesis. In Medea, the ideas run parallel with these cycle and conventions are maintained. However, in the Pythos cycle, rather than focusing on the gods divine envy, he focuses on an all too human aspect jealousy. Medea is overcome with jealousy after Jason takes another woman as his wife. Once again, Euripides has abandoned the conventional ideas and replaced it with his own thoughts. On the other hand, Euripides maintains the structure of the play in traditional convention, and his play follows closely with the Prologos, Parados, Episodia, Stasima and Exodus. But, to analyse the play, we must look closely at what conventions Euripides has used, as well as how he has used them. The Chorus was an essential part of every play. As such Euripides has used a chorus in his play to represent the Corinthian women. However, in other tragedies, the chorus played a much mor, detached role. Different Roles of Irony in Fussell Essay Different Roles of Irony in Fussell The excessive use of irony throughout World War I literature paints a colorful scheme of thoughtfulness and style. Paul Fussell gives one explanation in The Great War and Modern Memory by stating that the war itself is ironic because every war is worse than expected. Every war constitutes an irony of situation because its means are so melodramatically disproportionate to its presumed ends (7). Writers obviously realized the irony of war and in turn wrote in this style maybe not by intention, but because it was inescapable. Other examples of the accidental use of irony exist throughout WWI literature I m sure. Fussell argues that the use of irony comes from memory. He states that irony is a tool used to recollect certain events that would otherwise go unnoticed . What assists #8230;recall is precisely the ironic pattern which subsequent vision has laid over the events (Modern 30). Fussell uses Gunner Charles Bricknall as an example of this phenomenon . His work spanned over fifty years and included a broad range of genres from historical epics to gangster dramas. His films not only told interesting stories but also broke new ground. Many of his innovations were technical, such as his use of the long lens, his penchant for shooting with multiple cameras, and his virtuosic editing. Other innovations were tied to his emphasis on details within his films, such as elaborate period costumes and sets, western music, stunning location shots, and detailed miniature sets. As to specific reasons, I think much of it comes down a confusion between theme and technique. I don t see any reason to question Kurosawa s word that all his films were Japanese and aimed solely at a Japanese audience. However, many writers on the topic saw camera movements or set ups that resembled John Ford, read about Kurosawa s admiration for westerns and American pulp fiction, and added it up into a bland statement of Kurosawa being an essentially Western film maker. And Japanese critics, puzzled about why he was so popular in the West compared to other film makers, decided this is right. At last regardless you know the story all around ok to rehash it. Plate Tectonics At the point when the video starts, the mainlands have the structure we know today; the vast majority of the world s extraordinary mountain reaches are set up, and the Pacific Ocean is so far inland that a large portion of California s beach front mountains don t exist. Yet, they are going to be conceived on account of something many refer to as plate tectonics. Geologists trust that the world s hull is isolated into huge plates that fit together like the bits of a mammoth jigsaw riddle. These plates are thought to move persistently, for the most part on a level plane. As per geologic hypothesis, the plates meet in no less than three ways, and two of these are imperative to our story: subduction zones (where one plate moves underneath the other), and change limits (where the two plates grind past each other). The turning roads are created and flow freely for the fact that the free form arc. From what I can infer, the last tree on the right was altered by making it thicker on the edges. Many of the forms are characterized by the trees, bridges, buildings and people. Nevertheless, other forms can be considered non characterized and just serve to increase the elegance of the painting. Although, he avoided using three dimensional forms to the best of his ability to attempt of the curve road that displayed three planes. Across the other forms, they are implied three dimensional. The appearance of three dimensional was reached by using tonal techniques, which were shading and smearing. When Andrè Derain was painting in a three dimensional style, it was to portray the trees and walkway in different angles. This allowed the observers to see the foreground. Although, using one perspective style, the features throughout the background appear to disappear into the horizon, therefore being unclear. The main type of lines used in The Turning Road are extremely pronounced, strong, thick and dark. However, through the painting, some of the lines are thin in certain part of areas to avoid the attention. This would stimulate the different textures throughout the painting. With the textures of the painting it would also trigger the motion of the painting. In the works of The Turning Road, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Pros And Cons Of Voter Voting Many teens may argue that they should have a say and opinion in elections, but others believe they are too young and don t know a thing about politics. The usual voting age is 18 years old, which is still counts as a teenager but by that age, it is considered to be legal. They are more mature and have a little more knowledge about what is happening around the world. In the article, Takoma Park 16 year old savors his history making moment at the polls written by Annys Shin states that the 26th Amendment has granted 18 year olds the opportunity to vote around the mid 1900 s. Although the government has concerns on the percentage of people who vote, having younger applicants vote, will not make much of a difference because they are not well informed yet about the rules and how the government works. The total amount percentage of the voting rate has been decreasing every year, simply because citizens who are eligible to vote do not have enough time on their hands to vote. During the last municipal elections in 2011, a meager 19 percent of eligible voters showed up at the polls, according to Jessie Carpenter (Shin). Teens believe that if they are allowed to cast a vote, it will make a major difference in elections and have a much better impact. Voter apathy has been a worldwide problem with citizens because many do not vote due to the fact that they have a job and are not allowed to leave because they really need that money or because they must attend school. • 37. Death Of A Leader In Walt Whitman s O Captain My Captain Many Leaders lack the ability to move people. Mourning the death of a leader is an even bigger task to take on. Abraham Lincoln, in this case was an exception. In the famous poem, O Captain! My Captain! Written by, Walt Whitman in the year 1865. The poem, refers to a terrible event in American history; the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Instead of the country celebrating and rejoicing over the ending of the Civil War and being happy over the country being kept whole, everyone was mourning in the loss of their leader. Aboard a ship, the poem is about a fellow sailor grieving from the loss of his captain. The sailor in the poem is singing a song that praises his captain for leading them safely on their voyage and leading them back home. As the other sailors are celebrating their homecoming with everyone on shore, the sailor notices the captain. He is dead, lying on the deck of the ship fallen cold and dead (line 8). The sailor goes on and mournfully walks on the deck where the captain had died while the people on shore are unaware of their fallen leader. Rise up and hear the bells; (Line 9). The sailor says wishing his captain could witness the excitement. Everyone adored the captain and admitted that his death feels like a terrible dream, It is some dream that on the deck, you ve fallen cold and dead. (Lines 15 16). • 39. Argumentative Essay On Iwo Jima Iwo Jima is the most important memorial to me because it represents the turning point for America in World War II when we finally started taking charge over the Japanese. Iwo Jima was an amazingly fought battle where the Americans lost 26,000 marines, but the Japanese only lost 22,000 of their men. Yet, we still won. It was an incredible victory for us. It is the only battle the marines won with their own casualties exceeding the enemies casualties. Joe Rosenthal s picture of the flag being raised at Iwo Jima is truly remarkable. The idea that he could capture the moment of the six marines hauling the American flag up the side of the mountain is impressive. Those man of history were Sergeant Michael Strank, Corporal Harlon Block, and Private First Class Franklin Sousley who sadly were killed in action over the next few days. The three surviving flag raisers in the photograph were Corporals Rene Gagon, Ira Hayes, and Harold Scultz. Who knows if we would have beaten the Japanese had we not gained Iwo Jima? Americans needed a naval base and the Japanese island of Iwo Jima had two. The Japanese were controlling the air, and we needed a base to send our naval aircraft carriers out to sea in order to take down the Imperial Japanese Air Force. Plus, Iwo Jima being very close to Japan was of great strategic importance. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You never know who to believe. You would have thought that they would have been slaughtered by the Japanese s heavy guns when they ran up that mountain; but you never know, it could have simply been a miracle. The memorial looks like they are struggling to push the flag up, but I imagine they were quite stealthy going up the mountain during the cover of night. What a surprise for the Japanese when they woke up to see the American flag at the top of the mountain and tons of American Marines opening up fire on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
