To be honest, before my first counseling session I thought that counseling would be easier that what

encounter similar situations that may require particular skills such as encouraging, empathy,
questioning and observation that I was going to have an advantage over acquiring and applying the
rest of the skills needed for a complete counseling session. Hence, I went into the first session with

moment I intertwined my teacher and counselor personas and I should not have done this. If I had
been the astute and objective counselor, I would have had appreciated every second of the first

In 1984, the humorous advertising slogan for Wendy s fast food chain, Where s the beef? became
very popular and was meant to show their beef patties were much larger when compared to other
fast food burger establishments (Reno Gazette). The pictures of their patties were obviously bigger,

Americans consume approximately 5 billion hamburgers each year which equates to roughly 1.2
billion pounds of meat (Reno gazette). Most consumers assume that the hamburger they eat is

commitment to the welfare of the vulnerable and the outsider. The reason often given for these
gracious principles was the memory of the harsh experience of the Israelites when they were
slaves in Egypt (e.g. Exodus 23:9; Deuteronomy 10:17 19). Further, the welcome and care of
foreigners was structured into Israel s gleaning and tithing laws (Leviticus 19:9 10; Deuteronomy
14:28 29). Finally, there were designated places of sanctuary (not detention) in ancient Israel,
where refugees could live in peace and safety while their claims were being processed (Numbers
