Dbq Stamp Act
a) The Stamp Act was issued in 1765 by Parliament, and it forced colonists to pay a tax on all printed
documents such as newspapers, pamphlets, college diplomas, land titles, and playing cards. This tariff
was created in order to cover part of the cost of stationing the British troops in America which proved
to be very costly. b) In response to this new levy, 9 colonial delegates were sent to meet at the Stamp
Act Congress of 1765 held in New York City. At this meeting, they protested their loss of American
rights and liberties caused by the issuing of the Stamp Act as well as others like it. The Stamp Act was
challenged by the ideas of the constitution and eventually repealed in 1766. c) Another effect of the
implementation of the Stamp Act was the creation of the Sons of Liberty. The Sons of Liberty was an
organization determined to fight for the rights of the colonists and protect them against heavy taxation
by the British. In reaction to the Stamp Act, the Sons of Liberty burned a statue of Andrew Oliver, a
tax collector, as well as destroyed his newly built home. Other than working to rid of the Stamp Act,
the Stamp Act Congress proved to be successful in organizing a boycott of British goods in order to

excessive taxes made it impossible for farmers, such a Daniel Shay, to pay for their homes and they

farmers had to sell of their possessions in order to pay these levies until they had nothing left, or they

Juvenile Delinquency Act ( Jda ) And Young Offenders Act
Juvenile delinquents, individuals who are under 18 and have committed a crime, have been sentenced
in a variety of procedures throughout the years. This may occur for various crimes such as theft,
sexual assaults, etc. Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), a part of Canadian Legislation, determines
the process of prosecution for youths under the Canadian Criminal Justice system. This has assisted
several young adults reintegrate into society. It contains a set of definitive purposes and principles to
aid judges in deciding sentences that are appropriate for youth. Prior to the YCJA, the Youth Justice
Legislation was greatly influenced by two major acts: Juvenile Delinquents Act (JDA) and Young
Offenders Act (YOA). JDA, established in 1908, was recognized as an unjust act because judges were
authorized to declare a sentence based on their opinion, not the law. Similarly, YOA (1984) provided
unsuccessful sentences that consisted of inconsistent and vague principles. In 2003, the Youth
Criminal Justice Act was introduced to generate equilibrium intervening the juridical framework of
YOA and the social needs approach underlying the JDA. However, great controversy has been held
against the act due to several individuals who presume it holds no purpose. Many infer that it is unjust
to not be able to refer to the youth s criminal record and to have an age boundary, although numerous
statistics and criminal rate changes have disproved this. The Youth Criminal Justice Act has been

Short Story Chapter 2
There was a noticeable shift in temperature as the sun began its slow descent toward the horizon, the
impending dusk transforming the western sky from faded blue to an artist s palette of muted pink and
orange tones. Across from the aquatic center, Tom and Dennis loitered at a bus stop, their teenage
attire helping them to blend into the urban environment. However, despite his outwardly composed
appearance, Tom was anything but calm. His eyes scanned the street, searching for any sign of their
suspect. Tyrell Carson was an unknown quantity, and therefore, he needed to stay alert and not
become too complacent. While Booker had voiced a certain amount of skepticism, Tom knew all too
well the dangers of dealing with teenage felons, and he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hey, fellas, Tyrell greeted. I wasn t sure you d show. Nice of you not to keep me waiting.
Tom stepped forward, the right corner of his upper lip curling into a sneer. Yeah? Well, when we re
talking about money, we re always punctual. Right, Brady?
Right, Booker confirmed, his tough guy mask showing little emotion. He was happy to let Tom take
the lead, especially if it helped bolster his confidence. He trusted the young officer s abilities, and
there was no point in them both fighting for the dominant role.
Tyrell nodded at the two teens by his side. This is Seth and Joel, he introduced. They re friends of
mine.
Don t care, Tom replied in a bored voice. Let s get down to business.
A wide grin spread across Tyrell s face. So far, McQuaid and Brady were living up to their reputations,
and he mentally started to visualize all the cool things he could buy with the extra money he would
make after recruiting the two misfits. But first they had to pass the test, and with a twitch of his head,
he turned and walked toward the back of the building. Follow me.
Tom and Dennis trailed behind the teen, their muscles tensed in readiness. Seth and Joel brought up
the rear, their heads bowed together in deep conversation. Their voices

Media Bias In Society
Media bias can be seen today on every type of media coverage that exists. Media bias is how the
person reporting the information perceives it, whether through their language when they speak about
the subject or their choice of words used in the article they wrote. A trending and important topic,
subject to such media bias is genetically modified organisms. These GMOs have modified DNA
which leads to better traits. For example, some modifications are to be able to withstand lower or
higher temperatures to growing bigger and at a faster rate. The perception of GMOs in society is
heavily split into two factions. One side is supporters of GMOs as they see it as a necessity in today s
society of billions of people. The other side is the people against GMOs who believe GMOs are not
actually beneficial to the society and may cause negative effects in overall human health. GMOs is
profoundly shown biasedly through people in all types of media coverage, like magazines,
newspapers, radio segments, the internet, or televised news segments since the people reporting use
multiple fallacies.
Media bias pertaining to GMOs can be seen in magazine articles. An article by Time magazine called
FOOD: GMOs Are Our Destiny is biased towards GMOs (Jahren, 2016). The article uses the appeal to
emotion, the attempt of persuasion through the use of emotion and feelings. For example, the author

of the consequences. Despite the dangers and warnings signs he encountered, he continued on with his
damaging behavior. Kino s dynamic and unique personality is a heavy part of his character, as well as
his animalistic behavior, which are reasons why he repeatedly makes audacious decisions. Throughout

Grendel Character Analysis
When first reading through the book it is hard to fully comprehend and understand what the author is
using Grendel to get the reader to understand. Even still there are many parts and pieces of the story
and everyone has different thoughts or theories about it. As the author takes us through Grendel s story
it is easy to feel sympathy for such a creature who is portrayed as a villain due to his stranger
appearance. Eventually it is due to how the humans treat him and are frightened of him that truly
pushes him over the edge to becoming the villain they fear him to be. Personally I believe that is the
point of the story to show us how we treat others around us may ultimately lead to harm.
Given that Grendel is originally a villain from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course everyone has choices and realistically Grendel made some pretty stupid decisions. You d be
fully justified in believing that him to be the villain, truly, perhaps it s simply the author s fault for
falling into the every great hero needs a monster to fight trap, mayhaps it be the circumstance of his
birth. However the blame for his descent into violence and killing humans should also be blamed on
the humans themselves who make no effort to attempt to understand or communicate with him.
Maybe it was just the time period the story was set, in but the humans are depicted as violent and
ignorant, worshiping false gods and practicing pointless religions, according to Grendel, but can you
truly say something similar would not happen in this day and age? Grendel would be hunted down,
lauded as a monster, a murder, and an abomination. Taken in by scientists to be dissected and studied.
In both times given his monstrous appearance, Grendel would be unable to live his life to the fullest
and his angst in the story reflects that though he desires knowledge being unable to communicate with
the humans and his mother leaves him alone and emotionally stunted. He does not have an outlet so to
speak to pour out his conflicting emotions too and this lets him bottle it up inside and he lacks the
understanding to know what he is feeling and how he should react.

My New Body Of Work
I would say my justifications are leading and concerning on being mindful. I would describe
mindfulness, as a way of life that is peacefully perceptive, deprived of the stimulus of cravings or
viewpoints. That is how I behave in the studio. I dominate my rational brain with technical focuses so
that it stays occupied. As I am engaged with technique a fragment of myself is allowed to observe
unrestricted by my thought process. It is that openness that truly enlightens my work.
My new body of work is a continuation of the work I have initiated earlier this year. It consists of a
series of large canvases where I am painting a distorted enlarged self. I paint with oil colors on Italian
linen canvases. This paint layer gets built up in a traditional lean to fat technique. I used to paint
women portraits, but I gradually became more interested in flesh and less in the facial expressions.
Coming to an understanding about how the body alone is a vehicle to convey emotions and how those
moods can be exuding from a flat surface.
Throughout my artistic growth, the contemporary British artist Jenny Saville, that dedicated her career
to traditional figurative oil painting, has acted a massive part in my developing work. The subjects of
her paintings, the large canvasses and bodies exposing the flesh. The explanation of her work, tends to
be eccentric and encompasses discourses about feminism i.e.: 1 feminist aesthetics of disgust , her use
of uneven scratch marks, the strong and

Buddhism Suffer From Other Religions Essay
How Buddhism Differs from Other Religions?
Buddhism is the most famous non theistic religion for many reasons, one being tolerant of other
people s beliefs. Unlike many religious organizations, Buddhists do not believe that people who have
faith in deities are not going to be saved . In fact, there is no mention of salvation in Buddhist
teachings, simply because there is not much talk of the world ending. Although Buddhists believe in
the dualities of good and evil , it is often described as the struggle of one s self when faced with the
dilemma of giving in to temptation or not. Here are some other things that differentiate Buddhism
from other religions:
1. Buddhists do not worship idols Although the images and statues of Buddha can be seen around the
world, those are just made to remind everyone that he is the man who first found the way to
enlightenment. Buddhists do not ask the Buddha statues for favors when they ... Show more content

Buddhists do not try to convert people who belong to other religions Because Buddhism is tolerant of
other religions, they do not ask people to join them. Buddhism agrees with many teachings found in
the doctrines of other religions. It is known all over the world that those who converted to Buddhism
sought the religion. They were not invited to attend a religious activity, nor influenced to question
their own religion. This is one of the reasons why there hasn t been any religious conflict that involves
Buddhists.
3. Wisdom, peace and happiness, not salvation Unlike other religions that highlight the concept of
final judgment, Buddhists do not instill fear in people. Members of some religious organizations are
fearful of not being saved when the fated day comes, so they follow the teachings of their religion, in
hopes of securing a spot on the to be saved list. In Buddhism, the goal is to achieve wisdom, peace and
happiness. Whatever happens will happen, but if one has the wisdom, peace and happiness, there will

The Sheep Reflection
Explanation: Jesus continued speaking to the people and explained that while only thieves climb over
the wall of the sheepfold, the shepherd enters through the door. And when he calls his own sheep by
name and leads them out, they follow him because they know his voice. But they would not follow a
stranger because they would not know his voice. But the people did not understand what he meant by
this parable, so Jesus continued, saying that he was the Door of the sheep. Thieves came before, but
the sheep did not know their voice and did not follow them. Those thieves came to steal and kill and
destroy, but Jesus, the Door, came to bring salvation and abundant life. Jesus continued, saying that he
was the Good Shepherd and gave his life for his sheep. But the hired servant who does not own the
sheep or care for the sheep leaves when the wolf comes. And the wolf catches the sheep and scatters
them. But the Good Shepherd knows his sheep and his sheep know him. And as he knew the Father, so
the Father knew him. And he has other sheep of other folds that he will bring into one fold, and he will
lay down his life for them. And the Father loves him because he lays down his life of himself, no one
taking it from him. He has the power to lay it down and to take it again. And that was the
commandment he had received from his Father. Then the Jews were again divided because of him,
some accusing him of demon possession, and others arguing that a devil could not open the eyes of the
blind, as Jesus had so recently done.
Application: In this passage, Jesus is explaining to the people about the shepherd, the sheepfold, and
the sheep. This is considered to be the only parable in the book of John, and perhaps it does not even
qualify as a parable at all. Either way, it is a beautiful, encouraging picture of the way that Jesus cares
for us, his sheep, even to the point of laying down his life for us. Jesus is our Shepherd, he leads us
and guides us and cares for us. Sheep are very stupid creatures and need a lot of tending; so we are
wayward humans needing much care and watching. But Christ is not only the shepherd; he is the door
itself. We enter into life and safety through him. It is not through as through something that

French Canadian Catholic Identity
French Canada: the rise and decline of a church nation by Sylvie Lacombe covers the influence the
Canadian Catholic Church had on French Canadians from the early nineteenth century until the mid
twentieth century. It explores how the failed Upper Canada rebellions led to British parliamentary
control over the French via the Act of Union in 1840. This enabled the Catholic Church to take over
several provincial social institutions which came to influence nationalistic ideas and values. Thus,
many French Canadians believed themselves to be part of a church state . However, Irish Catholic
immigration, new Anglo Saxon imperialistic ideologies and the loss of French speaking schools in the

Martel demonstrates that new English nationalistic ideas (in response to immigration) brought new
threats of assimilation towards this identity, particularly to French Canadian citizens not living in
Quebec. French Canadians, originally hesitant to colonize these Western Canadian areas were now
encouraged to protect them as they saw these nations as isolated communities of French culture.
Finally, both Lacombe and Laplante demonstrate that when the Catholic Church had less influence on
political and social institutions, the church became less of a defining concept of the French Canadian
identity. These three, when grouped together, also provide a chronological overview of the rise and
fall of Catholic influence among French Canadian citizens. Lacombe provides the reasons for the rise
during the nineteenth century, and its subsequent decline in the early twentieth century. Martel
demonstrates how French Canadian citizens were motivated to preserve their Catholic identity when
they began to lose control of the Catholic dioceses outside Quebec during the late nineteenth and early
twentieth century. Laplante explores the transition of Quebec to a more secular province in the 1960s,
where the Catholic Church gave way for the province of Quebec to provide the national identity of
French Canadian citizens. The papers by Lacombe and Martel have similar time frames during the
nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with the Lacombe article examining a longer

Geographic Differences Between Canada And The United States
Although they bear some superficial similarities, the differences between America and Canada are
striking. There are many differences between Canada and the United States such as ethnicity,
geography, population, politics, and many more. Of all the differences the focus of this paper will be
geography. Geographical differences can be seen through the land of the United States and Canada.
The geographical land known as the United States was not formed in a day. It took many years to
formulate into what is seen today. For example, the Appalachian Mountains were formed when two
plates collided together causing a buckling in the Earth s crust. They now form a boundary of the east
coast to the remainder of the country. On the west coast, one can find the Rockies which were formed
by the westward shift of the North American tectonic plate and its collision with the Pacific tectonic
plate causing folding forces. The Rockies actually connect the United States to Canada. Another
example of the different geographical aspects of Canada and the United States is the Grand Canyon.
The Grand Canyon was created over many years by erosion from the Colorado River.

A Second Argument Pro Life Advocates
A third argument pro life advocates have against abortion is regarding adoption. They believe that it is
better for a woman to give birth to her baby at term and give it up for adoption than it is to abort it.
They say that there are endless numbers of couples in the world that are not able to conceive or it is
not safe for the mother to have children, that would be more than happy to adopt. As good as adoption
is, the reality is that it can be very hard emotionally for the birth mother. Placing a child up for
adoption can be very traumatic. The birth and the surrendering of the child may prompt various phases
of grief including shock and denial, sorrow and depression, anger, guilt, and acceptance. Some women
may feel it is easier emotionally to terminate a pregnancy in the early weeks while it is only a small
bundle of fetal tissue. Going through a nine month pregnancy is a long and taxing process physically,
mentally, and emotionally. In another situation, a woman may feel terminating her pregnancy is better
than adoption if the father of the child has been abusive and wants to keep the baby. At that point, not
only does that put stress on the mother thinking about the future for her child, but also brings more
people into the decision, which can cause a lot of strain. Another issue facing adoption is the reality of
many babies being born with serious physical and mental handicaps. Many women abort their children
after finding out they have some sort of

Spread Of Influenza
Forecasting the Spread of Influenza
The influenza virus has three types: A, B, and C. Seasonal influenza epidemics are typically caused by
types A and B, while type C regularly has mild symptoms. Scientists have studied previous years of
influenza epidemics and are able to predict the yearly flu season for the United States. In the United
States, flu season tends to peak during the winter months. In other climates, such as tropical and
subtropical, flu seasons can vary making them harder to predict. Hong Kong has a subtropical climate
and commonly has two flu seasons, one from January through March and another from July through
August. In addition to these two common flu seasons, Hong Kong can experience flu epidemics at
erratic times during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A latent phase of a virus is defined as being dormant or in an inactive state. Both the EAKF and PF
could predict and detect ongoing epidemics while not predicting epidemics during the latent phase
around eighty percent of the time. This means that around eighty percent of the time the models could
predict an irregular flu epidemic occurrence from previous data. These forecast systems were able to
predict the peak time and magnitude of the influenza epidemics but weren t able to predict the
duration or onset times of the viruses in advance. Each individual strain of virus had different
outcomes varying in accuracy. The results showed that it was more accurate to track and predict
individual strains as opposed to the influenza virus as a whole. The team suggests that for future
testing to use models that are specific to certain strains of individual viruses. Yang and her team

Epilepsy Is A Central Nervous System Disorder ( Cns )
Introduction
Epilepsy is a central nervous system disorder(CNS) causing recurrent seizures and can only be defined
when there is at least one epileptic seizure.[1][2] John Hughlings Jackson, a notable British
neurologist proposed that epilepsy is an occasional, an excessive and a disorderly discharge of nervous
tissue . About 65 million people(1% of the human population) in the world have epilepsy and the
cases account for 80% in developing countries. [3][4] In this essay, the normal physiology of nerve
transmission in cerebral cortex and pathophysiology of epilepsy will be discussed. The mechanism of
action of valproate is also studied and how it leads to the treatment of epilepsy.
Normal Physiology of Nerve Tranmission in Cerebral Cortex
The body system that is affected by epilepsy is CNS which is consisted of the brain and the spinal
cord.[5] (Figure 1) Figure 1 The major divsions of CNS[5]
The brain has a part called the cerebral cortex(gray matter) which is made up of 3 to 6 layers of
neurons.[7] A neuron has three parts namely axon, dendrites and cell body.[6] Neurons are classified
as principal(projection) neurons and interneurons. Principal neurons transmit information to other
neurons in the brain and form excitatory synapses. Interneurons in the CNS transmit impulses locally
and form inhibitory synapse.[7] Two common types of pathways for these neurons include recurrent
feedback pathways and feed forward pathways.[9](Figure 2) `

Case Study Of Vanilla Rum Apple Butter
1. Product
The product that I have chosen for this project is a food product, Vanilla Rum Apple Butter. Apple
butter is made pretty much like apple sauce except you add spices or flavorings to it and slow cook it
for multiple hours. Slow cooking apple butter for multiple hours will result in it becoming thick and
spreadable. The Vanilla Rum Apple Butter would mainly be sold online and at local farmers market.
My target market could potentially be a wide range of food consumers. The one target consumer
would be anyone who likes apple butter and who is wanting to change it up a little bit from your
average apple butter. Then you have your apple lovers, your rum drinkers and anyone who likes the
flavor vanilla. You also have your morning toast eaters due to most people who consume this product
would eat it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Amylase Production In Bacillus Subtilis Lab Report
Effect of Temperature on Amylase Production in Bacillus subtilis Grace Ann Nader Background
Amylase is an enzyme, produced by plants, animals, and microorganisms, that is used to break down
starches into smaller monomers, that can then be transferred through the cell wall and metabolized by
organisms. Amylase plays a huge role in the food and textile industry as well. Amylase hydrolyzes
starch molecules into polymers composed of glucose units, which are used to create glucose, fructose
syrups, modified starches, and maltodextrin. Amylase also is used in the body to digest carbohydrates,
which are the primary energy source for the human body. Amylase is of particular interest to me

Why Is Personal Legend Important In The Alchemist
In the book The Alchemist the theme is personal legend. The quote everyone on earth has a treasure

And last but not least the quote And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping
you to achieve it (Coelho ). All four of these quotes describe how personal legend is the theme of the

Disparities In US Birth Rates Of Hispanic Adolescents
The main ethnic/racial groups affected by the health issue are non Hispanic African American females,
Hispanic females, and Native Americans/Native Alaskans. There were key study findings from the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that found that U.S. birth rates for adolescents vary
considerably by race and Hispanic origin (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011). Thus,
this provides even more clear evidence on the difference of ethnic/racial groups. Additionally, in 2008,
the birth rate for Hispanic adolescents was approximately five times the rate for Asian/Pacific Islander
adolescents, three times the rate for non Hispanic white adolescents, and somewhat higher than the
rates for non Hispanic African American and Native American/Native Alaskan adolescents (Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention, 2011).
This brings caution, as according to The Pew Charitable Trusts, although teen pregnancy and birth
rates have declined over the past two decades, states still face the reality that African American and
Latina teens are more than twice as likely as white teens to become pregnant (Wiltz, T. 2015). ... Show

Bilbray on the other hand is more convincing in his idea of amnesty . He claims it is the unclear

immigrants who were seeking passage to the U.S. and on December 15 the murder of Border Patrol
Agent Brian Terry. making clear of the idea becoming a threat for those migrants and the protection
we pay for to prevent tragic events like these from happening. Both articles exhibit strong arguments
on their take of immigration reform and one can agree there needs to be a better solution to meet the

curiosity would prompt us to find out more. We needed to know real facts other than statements about
the truth behind false assumptions about immigrants and whether they were truly beneficial to the

Comparing Dziga Vertov s Film, Man with a Movie Camera and Run Lola Run
The main and essential thing is : the sensory exploration of the world through film. We therefore take
as a point of departure the use of the camera as a keno eye, more perfect than the human eye, for the
exploration of the chaos of visual phenomena that fills space.
Dziga Vertov , Manifesto The Council of Three (1923)
The innovative theories and filmmaking techniques of Dziga Vertov revolutionized the way films are
made today. Man With a Movie Camera (1929), a documentary that represented the peak of the Soviet

His original ways of thinking, isolated him from all other filmmakers. Even his style of using montage
(editing style commonly used by Soviet directors) in Man with a Movie Camera was very different. In
this film, hours of footage are edited together in many cuts, which is the style that Vertov is well
known for. His cuts are very rapid and he displays them accordingly to music to add excitement to the
sequence. The sequences act on all three levels of montage: narrative, intellectual, and emotional. For
example in the beginning of Man with a Movie Camera, there is a sequence in a theatre where the
cameraman sets up the film for the audience to watch (appendix 1). The lights come on, the seats go
down, the cameraman sets up the projector, the audience enters, the lights dim, the orchestra awaits
and then the manifest begins. The narration comes from the editor throughout the whole film. The
cameraman cannot possibly be the narrator since he is randomly out of frame and it is a silent film.

when Carr argues point he does it so subtle that the reader may not realize that its only his opinion.
His argument that people are becoming too dependent on technology is weaved through the
explanation of ELIZA: a computer application program that offered a mechanic clarity, replacing
language s human messiness with a clean internal computer. (202)
ELIZA software was used in helping to treat mental illnesses: patients were able to talk to a machine
instead of a psychotherapist. The outcome of this experiment showed that if the patient couldn t tell
whether he or she was talking to a computer, the computer is just a valuable as a therapist. Carr uses
this to argue and prove that people can be easily replaced by technology.
To comprehend the impacts of a PC, Weizenbaum contended that one needed to see the machine with

American, Little Miss Sunshine, By Jonathan Dayton And...
American Sunshine
The American Dream has been redefined through different eras of the United States. At its most
optimistic, the American Dream is about having the freedom and opportunity to do and be whatever
one chooses, the success stemming from one s achievement of individuality. But the influences of
capitalistic ideals in the United States have shifted the common definition and instead of optimism the
American Dream is now defined in more cynical terms of upward mobility and wealth. UK director
Andrea Arnold s 2016 film American Honey about a young woman who joins a roaming magazine
crew critiques the American Dream through the lens of this cynicism. Conversely, the 2006 comedy
Little Miss Sunshine by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather than facing against the discomforts of the working class grind, they seem to be complacent in
their existence of freewheeling abandon (Madden 2016).
In addition to the importance that is placed on money and wealth, the central theme of Arnold s film
lies in the interactions more accurately transactions between the crew and the people they meet. These
kids are supposedly selling magazines, but really they are selling themselves. That feels very
American. So the environment in the bus is like a potted version of the bigger picture (Class Notes).
As the film progresses the lines that define what Star will and won t do for money become more
blurred as she begins to lose herself to Arnold s American dream a fantasy born out of hardship. The
importance of wealth is equally reflected in moments of Little Miss Sunshine. Plane tickets are
unaffordable, so the entire Hoover family is forced to drive to California for the daughter Olive s
competition because they cannot in good conscious leave behind any of their number, however much
they d like to separate (Klawans, p.42). When they make a stop at a restaurant each of the family
members must order something from the menu under four dollars, another testament to the realism of
their financial means. While wealth is not the central point of Dayton and Faris film, the moments that
are shaped by wealth resonate with the primary ideology of success in Little Miss Sunshine. To be

Coral Reef Bahamas
The coral reef of the Bahamas is home to a large variety of different organisms including sponges,
fish, anemones, sea stars, and crustaceans. They all use the reef as a form of resource for food,
protection from predators, or a place to live (Harborne et al. 2006). However, coral reefs all around the
world are in danger of depletion and destruction more now than ever (Richardson 1998). Damage to
the coral reef is caused by a number of factors such as increasing temperatures or reduction of sea pH
(van Hooidonk et al. 2013). These factors lead to an increase in diseases (Kuta and Richardson 2002;
Zvuloni et al. 2009; Patterson et al. 2002; Gil Agudelo et al. 2004). There is a large range of different
diseases affecting a variety of coral species ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This occurs when there is partial or complete tissue degradation due to a pathogenic microbial
consortium. Sulfur compounds and low oxygen conditions are produced by a concentration of
bacteria, which eventually kills of the coral (Viehman et al. 2006). This is the only disease to date that
can be successfully treated (NMFS 2001). Blotch, circular ring shaped lesions bordered by a faint
yellow colouring distinguish Caribbean Yellow Band Disease (Santavy et al. 1999; Cervino et al.
2001). The lesions are slow progressing growing in size by only mm or cm a each month (Reeves
1994). The edges remain the yellow colour while the previously infected tissue will darken prior to the
tissue being lost (Cervino et al. 2005). This disease is directly affecting important reef builders and
therefore affecting the growth of the coral reef itself (NMFS 2001). Dark Spots Disease is associated
with the appearance of dark spots that may expand over time. The affected tissue will occasionally
form depressions of the surface of the coral and may differ depending on the season however the
underlying skeleton will retain dark pigmentation even when tissue is gone (Gil Agudelo

Major Luston Short Story
Major Luxon arrived, leading the Marines from the front; it was impressive to the Rowland family to
see the Marine Commander on the road with his men. Major Luxon met with Mr. and Mrs. Luxon for
about an hour. Mr. Rowland then asked the Major to follow him. Major Luxon shrugged and thought,
why not? The two men headed out to one of the many barns on the property. Mr. Rowland swung open
one of the doors, You think this will help you? Mr. Rowland asked Major Luxon. The barn was filled
from top to bottom with wheat and corn. We had a bumper crop this year and it seems to be all going
to waste, Mr. Rowland told the Major. I m not the one to make the decision Mr. Rowland; you would
need to speak to Captain O Hara the base commander. I m sure he be more than happy to take it. With

Marines. Once we had the first couple of classes trained and we evaluated them, they took over the
training. They ve got two Battalions of them now; see that down the road there? Major Luxon pointed
to the dust trail that had been getting closer and closer. Yes sir I see that, Mr. Rowland exclaimed. That
would be First Battalion Naval Special Weapons coming for a visit, and tomorrow Second Battalion
will be arriving. Why so many? We ve been ordered by Captain O Hara to expand our perimeters out;
we need farm animals and horses for plowing, Major Luxon eyed Mr. Rowland hoping he would see

Professional Athletes Are Not Above The Law
Often times, professional athletes are role models and revered heavily by the media, franchise, and the
organization that the athlete performs for. However, to see a pro athlete fall and suffer due to
accusations and evidence brought against them is a very serious issue. There have been so many past
court cases where professional athletes have had to pay for their actions against their organization or
against society. Athletes are not above the law, but they are generally portrayed to be seen above the
law because of their financial success. Based on past court cases, professional athletes are not above
the law because they are simply still people that make mistakes. Also, athletes are not the exception to
the law. They have to follow the rules of society just like everyone else. Finally, professional athletes
are not above the law because they have a reputation to up hold. They are sometimes being watched
by millions of people on national television. Professional athletes are still people that have made
mistakes in the past. There is no professional athlete that does not wish that he or she did not make the
mistake that was made. A great example would be NFL Running Back Adrian Peterson of the
Minnesota Vikings. The article discusses how Peterson had punished his 4 year old son with a switch
bare bottom. Peterson had admitted that he had beaten his son enough for him to draw blood. The
court had declared this as child abuse against Peterson. Although, Peterson had defended

Religion 1700s Religion
In the 1700s the extent of religion was not very vast and many people were prosecuted for their
religious beliefs, however there were colonies that allowed people to have their own beliefs and this
helped pave the way for religious freedoms in the colonies.
In the 1700s religion was heavily involved in nearly everything a person did. There beliefs were
strong and when someone told them differently they would be heavily punished for this. Many people
would not allow their opinions to go unheard, like Anne Hutchinson and many more. These people
would try to fight for their freedom for religion but they were mostly shunned and punished. The
Puritans were a group of very strict religious followers who would go to high extremes to make people
change religious ways. The indians were highly affected by this and felt the pain of being forced to
join a religion through violence. Another group of religious followers were the quakers, what
separated the quakers from other religious groups though were there tolerance for religious freedoms
within the massachusetts bay colony this was one of the first colonies to accept other religions within
their walls. This would soon turn into a movement of other colonies to follow in the steps of
massachusetts and not judge based solely off of one s religious beliefs. Another factor in religion
during the colonial era was the great awakening, this was an era in which people began to lose their
belief and church was seen as bland. In order to

Analysis Of Donatello s David Of The Same Boy
The story of the young shepherd boy named David, who defeated the warrior giant Goliath, with
nothing more than his slingshot has become a symbol of how man, or in this case a boy, can achieve
anything with faith and a great deal of will power. Here we compare two statues of the same boy, each
telling a different part of David s story. One depicts the boy moments after the battle and the other
depicts David during pivotal moment of his life. Although both statutes have many features in
common, there are many differences that would suggest Donatello s David was not only meant to be
the victorious David but also meant to be more than just a narrative piece like Bernini s David.
Standing at 5 2 Donatello s bronze sculpture, one of the first life size nude statutes to be created since
the classical period. Donatello depicts a young man (David) stepping on a man s head (goliath) and
confidently gazing down at the viewer. David leans on the sword in his right hand and holds a stone in
his left. His lax composure and the slight smile on his face would imply that the battle is done. Clean
shaven and with long, luscious hair, it is assumed that David is rather young, which makes his victory
over the giant even more remarkable. The viewer gets a sense of the how large Goliath the giant truly
was when they glance down at the bottom of the composition and realize, the giants head is nearly
twice the size of David s foot.
The sculpture incorporates a multitude of elements that would

The benefits of copyright security overwhelmingly exceed the detriments. There are all things
considered a few detriments to remembering.
There are no genuine burdens to copyright enlistment. Enlistment passes on extra rights and
advantages, making it less demanding for the proprietor of a unique work to ensure it against
infringers. Enlistment does not remove any rights from the maker of the work. Seen hindrances must
be seen from a utilitarian or hypothetical point of view. Practically, the need to finish an enrollment
requires some investment and costs cash. Hypothetically, a few activists think copyrights smother the
inventive scene, keeping individuals from taking works and utilizing them to make new works that
will additionally add to society.
Many individuals expect that a unique work must be enrolled with the U.S. Copyright Office for the
maker to have a copyright. Enrollment does not give a maker a copyright. It basically gives an open
record of the copyright proprietor so the maker of a unique work can protect his interests in the event
that anybody encroaches upon his

Lululemon Athletica Inc. Case Analysis
This paper commences by defining the problems that were faced by Lululemon Athletica Inc in 2013.
After, the author explores the causes of the issues that the company was experiencing and the effects
that they had on Lululemon Athletica Inc. The next step is to look at ways in which the issues could
have been addressed both for the short term and long term. When all is said and done, the audience
will fully appreciate why Lululemon Athletica Inc should revert to its fundamentals that is, to
concentrate on the needs of the consumer .
Difinition of Problems
In 2013, Lululemon Athletica Inc found it succession of problems that damaged the company s
reputation, these included the following: (i) quality control was top on the list as there was a recall of
17 per cent of the company s Luon pants, (ii) lawsuits issues with investors, (iii) withdrawal from the
Canadian stock exchange, and (iv) bad publicity (Huang, 2014, p.5 7).
Explanation of Problems
In relation to the withdrawal of the Luon pants from the market in March 2013, this was owing that
the pants were viewed as being over transparent by many (thehollywoodgossip, 2013). In May 2013,
the lawsuits that were filed against the company regarding the renuneration increase of top managers
and the accusation about hiding information concerning defected goods in order to rise stock prices
were cause for concern (Huang, 2014, p.7). This is because the lawsuits were filed by investors
(Huang, 2014, p.7). In June 2013,

Immature In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Meeting at a party, marrying the next day, banishment, and ultimately, death. Shakespeare s Romeo
and Juliet shows just that; every event following in that arrangement. Romeo and Juliet, two forbidden
lovers by a family feud, who would do anything for each other, even die.The characters from
Shakespeare s tragedy Romeo and Juliet do not show a good representation of love because they are
immature, they are a rebound relationship for Romeo, and they are practically strangers. Beginning,
the first way Romeo and Juliet to not exemplify love is because they are immature. Romeo shows his
immaturity when he says, ¨Tut, I have lost myself; I am not here. This is not Romeo, he s some other

The Civil Rights Of The United States Essay
The United states has been called the, Land of The Free since its independence was won from Great
Britain, however, until 1965 Free only applied to a select demographic, white, land owning males. The
most largely discriminated demographic before 1996 and somewhat even so today is the African
American population. In 1619 the first African American slaves were introduced into the colony of
Jamestown, Virginia 1. Then after many years and revolts, in 1831 slavery was finally abolished and
all freed slaves were given 40 acres and a mule to help these newly freed slaves begin their new lives
2. Although this was helpful, many conflicts arose from this new found freedom and the struggle didn
t get any easier. It wasn t until 1965, after the founding of the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), World War II, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., and
several supreme court cases, that African American finally achieved the right to vote3. Even after
these several legal advancements and many different civil rights movements the playing field, after
many attempts to be leveled out, was still uneven and the day by day struggles continued. Even today,
396 years later, there are still racial bias and inequalities toward the African American community.
While in the past or present changes have been and are being made by either the executive, legislative,
or judicial branch to help African Americans achieve universal freedom and equality, but it is unclear

  • 2. Dbq Stamp Act a) The Stamp Act was issued in 1765 by Parliament, and it forced colonists to pay a tax on all printed documents such as newspapers, pamphlets, college diplomas, land titles, and playing cards. This tariff was created in order to cover part of the cost of stationing the British troops in America which proved to be very costly. b) In response to this new levy, 9 colonial delegates were sent to meet at the Stamp Act Congress of 1765 held in New York City. At this meeting, they protested their loss of American rights and liberties caused by the issuing of the Stamp Act as well as others like it. The Stamp Act was challenged by the ideas of the constitution and eventually repealed in 1766. c) Another effect of the implementation of the Stamp Act was the creation of the Sons of Liberty. The Sons of Liberty was an organization determined to fight for the rights of the colonists and protect them against heavy taxation by the British. In reaction to the Stamp Act, the Sons of Liberty burned a statue of Andrew Oliver, a tax collector, as well as destroyed his newly built home. Other than working to rid of the Stamp Act, the Stamp Act Congress proved to be successful in organizing a boycott of British goods in order to further prove their ... Juvenile Delinquency Act ( Jda ) And Young Offenders Act Juvenile delinquents, individuals who are under 18 and have committed a crime, have been sentenced in a variety of procedures throughout the years. This may occur for various crimes such as theft, sexual assaults, etc. Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), a part of Canadian Legislation, determines the process of prosecution for youths under the Canadian Criminal Justice system. This has assisted several young adults reintegrate into society. It contains a set of definitive purposes and principles to aid judges in deciding sentences that are appropriate for youth. Prior to the YCJA, the Youth Justice Legislation was greatly influenced by two major acts: Juvenile Delinquents Act (JDA) and Young Offenders Act (YOA). JDA, established in 1908, was recognized as an unjust act because judges were authorized to declare a sentence based on their opinion, not the law. Similarly, YOA (1984) provided unsuccessful sentences that consisted of inconsistent and vague principles. In 2003, the Youth Criminal Justice Act was introduced to generate equilibrium intervening the juridical framework of YOA and the social needs approach underlying the JDA. However, great controversy has been held against the act due to several individuals who presume it holds no purpose. Many infer that it is unjust to not be able to refer to the youth s criminal record and to have an age boundary, although numerous statistics and criminal rate changes have disproved this. • 4. Short Story Chapter 2 There was a noticeable shift in temperature as the sun began its slow descent toward the horizon, the impending dusk transforming the western sky from faded blue to an artist s palette of muted pink and orange tones. Across from the aquatic center, Tom and Dennis loitered at a bus stop, their teenage attire helping them to blend into the urban environment. However, despite his outwardly composed appearance, Tom was anything but calm. His eyes scanned the street, searching for any sign of their suspect. Tyrell Carson was an unknown quantity, and therefore, he needed to stay alert and not become too complacent. While Booker had voiced a certain amount of skepticism, Tom knew all too well the dangers of dealing with teenage felons, and he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tom stepped forward, the right corner of his upper lip curling into a sneer. Yeah? Well, when we re talking about money, we re always punctual. Right, Brady? Right, Booker confirmed, his tough guy mask showing little emotion. He was happy to let Tom take the lead, especially if it helped bolster his confidence. He trusted the young officer s abilities, and there was no point in them both fighting for the dominant role. Tyrell nodded at the two teens by his side. This is Seth and Joel, he introduced. They re friends of mine. Don t care, Tom replied in a bored voice. Let s get down to business. A wide grin spread across Tyrell s face. So far, McQuaid and Brady were living up to their reputations, and he mentally started to visualize all the cool things he could buy with the extra money he would make after recruiting the two misfits. But first they had to pass the test, and with a twitch of his head, he turned and walked toward the back of the building. Follow me. Tom and Dennis trailed behind the teen, their muscles tensed in readiness. Seth and Joel brought up the rear, their heads bowed together in deep conversation. Their voices ... • 5. Media Bias In Society Media bias can be seen today on every type of media coverage that exists. Media bias is how the person reporting the information perceives it, whether through their language when they speak about the subject or their choice of words used in the article they wrote. A trending and important topic, subject to such media bias is genetically modified organisms. These GMOs have modified DNA which leads to better traits. For example, some modifications are to be able to withstand lower or higher temperatures to growing bigger and at a faster rate. The perception of GMOs in society is heavily split into two factions. One side is supporters of GMOs as they see it as a necessity in today s society of billions of people. The other side is the people against GMOs who believe GMOs are not actually beneficial to the society and may cause negative effects in overall human health. GMOs is profoundly shown biasedly through people in all types of media coverage, like magazines, newspapers, radio segments, the internet, or televised news segments since the people reporting use multiple fallacies. Media bias pertaining to GMOs can be seen in magazine articles. An article by Time magazine called FOOD: GMOs Are Our Destiny is biased towards GMOs (Jahren, 2016). Even still there are many parts and pieces of the story and everyone has different thoughts or theories about it. As the author takes us through Grendel s story it is easy to feel sympathy for such a creature who is portrayed as a villain due to his stranger appearance. Eventually it is due to how the humans treat him and are frightened of him that truly pushes him over the edge to becoming the villain they fear him to be. Personally I believe that is the point of the story to show us how we treat others around us may ultimately lead to harm. Given that Grendel is originally a villain from ... However the blame for his descent into violence and killing humans should also be blamed on the humans themselves who make no effort to attempt to understand or communicate with him. Maybe it was just the time period the story was set, in but the humans are depicted as violent and ignorant, worshiping false gods and practicing pointless religions, according to Grendel, but can you truly say something similar would not happen in this day and age? Grendel would be hunted down, lauded as a monster, a murder, and an abomination. Taken in by scientists to be dissected and studied. In both times given his monstrous appearance, Grendel would be unable to live his life to the fullest and his angst in the story reflects that though he desires knowledge being unable to communicate with the humans and his mother leaves him alone and emotionally stunted. • 10. My New Body Of Work I would say my justifications are leading and concerning on being mindful. I would describe mindfulness, as a way of life that is peacefully perceptive, deprived of the stimulus of cravings or viewpoints. That is how I behave in the studio. I dominate my rational brain with technical focuses so that it stays occupied. As I am engaged with technique a fragment of myself is allowed to observe unrestricted by my thought process. It is that openness that truly enlightens my work. My new body of work is a continuation of the work I have initiated earlier this year. It consists of a series of large canvases where I am painting a distorted enlarged self. I paint with oil colors on Italian linen canvases. This paint layer gets built up in a traditional lean to fat technique. I used to paint women portraits, but I gradually became more interested in flesh and less in the facial expressions. Coming to an understanding about how the body alone is a vehicle to convey emotions and how those moods can be exuding from a flat surface. Throughout my artistic growth, the contemporary British artist Jenny Saville, that dedicated her career to traditional figurative oil painting, has acted a massive part in my developing work. The subjects of her paintings, the large canvasses and bodies exposing the flesh. The explanation of her work, tends to be eccentric and encompasses discourses about feminism i.e.: 1 feminist aesthetics of disgust , her use of uneven scratch marks, the strong and ... • 11. Buddhism Suffer From Other Religions Essay How Buddhism Differs from Other Religions? Buddhism is the most famous non theistic religion for many reasons, one being tolerant of other people s beliefs. Unlike many religious organizations, Buddhists do not believe that people who have faith in deities are not going to be saved . In fact, there is no mention of salvation in Buddhist teachings, simply because there is not much talk of the world ending. Although Buddhists believe in the dualities of good and evil , it is often described as the struggle of one s self when faced with the dilemma of giving in to temptation or not. Here are some other things that differentiate Buddhism from other religions: 1. Buddhists do not worship idols Although the images and statues of Buddha can be seen around the world, those are just made to remind everyone that he is the man who first found the way to enlightenment. Buddhists do not ask the Buddha statues for favors when they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Buddhists do not try to convert people who belong to other religions Because Buddhism is tolerant of other religions, they do not ask people to join them. Buddhism agrees with many teachings found in the doctrines of other religions. It is known all over the world that those who converted to Buddhism sought the religion. They were not invited to attend a religious activity, nor influenced to question their own religion. This is one of the reasons why there hasn t been any religious conflict that involves Buddhists. 3. Wisdom, peace and happiness, not salvation Unlike other religions that highlight the concept of final judgment, Buddhists do not instill fear in people. Members of some religious organizations are fearful of not being saved when the fated day comes, so they follow the teachings of their religion, in hopes of securing a spot on the to be saved list. In Buddhism, the goal is to achieve wisdom, peace and happiness. Whatever happens will happen, but if one has the wisdom, peace and happiness, there will never be any ... • 12. The Sheep Reflection Explanation: Jesus continued speaking to the people and explained that while only thieves climb over the wall of the sheepfold, the shepherd enters through the door. And when he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out, they follow him because they know his voice. But they would not follow a stranger because they would not know his voice. But the people did not understand what he meant by this parable, so Jesus continued, saying that he was the Door of the sheep. Thieves came before, but the sheep did not know their voice and did not follow them. Those thieves came to steal and kill and destroy, but Jesus, the Door, came to bring salvation and abundant life. Jesus continued, saying that he was the Good Shepherd and gave his life for his sheep. But the hired servant who does not own the sheep or care for the sheep leaves when the wolf comes. And the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them. But the Good Shepherd knows his sheep and his sheep know him. And as he knew the Father, so the Father knew him. And he has other sheep of other folds that he will bring into one fold, and he will lay down his life for them. And the Father loves him because he lays down his life of himself, no one taking it from him. He has the power to lay it down and to take it again. And that was the commandment he had received from his Father. Then the Jews were again divided because of him, some accusing him of demon possession, and others arguing that a devil could not open the eyes of the blind, as Jesus had so recently done. Application: In this passage, Jesus is explaining to the people about the shepherd, the sheepfold, and the sheep. This is considered to be the only parable in the book of John, and perhaps it does not even qualify as a parable at all. Either way, it is a beautiful, encouraging picture of the way that Jesus cares for us, his sheep, even to the point of laying down his life for us. Jesus is our Shepherd, he leads us and guides us and cares for us. Sheep are very stupid creatures and need a lot of tending; so we are wayward humans needing much care and watching. But Christ is not only the shepherd; he is the door itself. We enter into life and safety through him. It is not through as through something that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. French Canadian Catholic Identity French Canada: the rise and decline of a church nation by Sylvie Lacombe covers the influence the Canadian Catholic Church had on French Canadians from the early nineteenth century until the mid twentieth century. It explores how the failed Upper Canada rebellions led to British parliamentary control over the French via the Act of Union in 1840. This enabled the Catholic Church to take over several provincial social institutions which came to influence nationalistic ideas and values. Thus, many French Canadians believed themselves to be part of a church state . However, Irish Catholic immigration, new Anglo Saxon imperialistic ideologies and the loss of French speaking schools in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Martel demonstrates that new English nationalistic ideas (in response to immigration) brought new threats of assimilation towards this identity, particularly to French Canadian citizens not living in Quebec. French Canadians, originally hesitant to colonize these Western Canadian areas were now encouraged to protect them as they saw these nations as isolated communities of French culture. Finally, both Lacombe and Laplante demonstrate that when the Catholic Church had less influence on political and social institutions, the church became less of a defining concept of the French Canadian identity. These three, when grouped together, also provide a chronological overview of the rise and fall of Catholic influence among French Canadian citizens. Lacombe provides the reasons for the rise during the nineteenth century, and its subsequent decline in the early twentieth century. Martel demonstrates how French Canadian citizens were motivated to preserve their Catholic identity when they began to lose control of the Catholic dioceses outside Quebec during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. There are many differences between Canada and the United States such as ethnicity, geography, population, politics, and many more. Of all the differences the focus of this paper will be geography. Geographical differences can be seen through the land of the United States and Canada. The geographical land known as the United States was not formed in a day. It took many years to formulate into what is seen today. For example, the Appalachian Mountains were formed when two plates collided together causing a buckling in the Earth s crust. They now form a boundary of the east coast to the remainder of the country. On the west coast, one can find the Rockies which were formed by the westward shift of the North American tectonic plate and its collision with the Pacific tectonic plate causing folding forces. The Rockies actually connect the United States to Canada. Another example of the different geographical aspects of Canada and the United States is the Grand Canyon. • 19. A Second Argument Pro Life Advocates A third argument pro life advocates have against abortion is regarding adoption. They believe that it is better for a woman to give birth to her baby at term and give it up for adoption than it is to abort it. They say that there are endless numbers of couples in the world that are not able to conceive or it is not safe for the mother to have children, that would be more than happy to adopt. As good as adoption is, the reality is that it can be very hard emotionally for the birth mother. Placing a child up for adoption can be very traumatic. The birth and the surrendering of the child may prompt various phases of grief including shock and denial, sorrow and depression, anger, guilt, and acceptance. Some women may feel it is easier emotionally to terminate a pregnancy in the early weeks while it is only a small bundle of fetal tissue. Going through a nine month pregnancy is a long and taxing process physically, mentally, and emotionally. In another situation, a woman may feel terminating her pregnancy is better than adoption if the father of the child has been abusive and wants to keep the baby. At that point, not only does that put stress on the mother thinking about the future for her child, but also brings more people into the decision, which can cause a lot of strain. Another issue facing adoption is the reality of many babies being born with serious physical and mental handicaps. Many women abort their children after finding out they have some sort of ... Like Morones, he too agrees that current border circumstances are dangerous, as of August the murder of 72 illegal immigrants who were seeking passage to the U.S. and on December 15 the murder of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry. making clear of the idea becoming a threat for those migrants and the protection we pay for to prevent tragic events like these from happening. Both articles exhibit strong arguments on their take of immigration reform and one can agree there needs to be a better solution to meet the needs of both opposing sides. However, some points were made unclear and was apparent that our curiosity would prompt us to find out more. We needed to know real facts other than statements about the truth behind false assumptions about immigrants and whether they were truly beneficial to the United States economy and overall well being. To improve my knowledge on the subject of immigration, I researched how education correlates with the speaking of the English language amongst immigrants.
