Research Paper On Software Modeling
This research paper will be focus on different software modeling techniques. Software modeling is
concerned with development process of software. Software modeling is central part of almost all
activities that took place in software development. These models help us to envision a system
according to our requirement by describing the structure and behavior of the system. There are three
basic techniques of software modeling; object oriented modeling, dynamic modeling and functional
modeling. Object oriented modeling concept start in 1990s, its basic building block is object that is the
instant of any class, and here class is a template containing attributes and methods of objects. Classes
and their relationships are present in class diagram. As a class have many type of relations with other
class within a class diagram. These relationships are about inheritance and some are about ... Show

life. To operate these machines, we need to give them instruction of doing some work in specific
format which is called software. So, when a problem arises or identified and one want a solution by
using machines, need of new software arise. And thus, a software development life cycle starts. To
make this life cycle more efficient and accurate, different SDLC model and software development
modeling techniques exist. Here in this research paper we will discuss software modeling techniques.
The term model is derived from the Latin word modulus, which means pattern, measure, and rule.

Gulf Stream Research Paper
The Gulf Stream is one of the largest and fastest ocean currents on earth covering approximately
10,000 km (The Gulf Stream Explained, n.d). The Gulf Stream originates from a warm water current
transported to the Gulf of Mexico by the Southeast Trade Winds (The Gulf Stream Explained, n.d).
Once in the Gulf of Mexico this mass of water heats up and fueled by the Westerly Winds it starts to
move towards Europe passing along the U.S East coast (The Gulf Stream Explained, n.d). While
traveling on its path the Gulf Stream regulates the temperature on the east coast of the U.S and in
some parts of Europe. It also contributes to the migration of many species from the Caribbean Sea to
the north (The Gulf Stream Explained, n.d). Once the Gulf Stream

Globalization The Super Story By Thomas Friedman Analysis
We are said to be living in a world with a transparent and yet to develop war. But how can anyone
really see it and understand it if no one is aware of how tragic events happen, who and how many
people, countries and nations are behind it and how it all connects to technology. At least, that is what
Thomas L. Freidman writes about in his article Globalization: The Super Story . Friedman s article
was a very interesting read, especially since it touches upon some pretty dense and forgotten subjects,
such as global politics, technology and history. When I read the title of this article I expected
Friedman to discuss about global markets and the interaction of nations yet I was amazed when he
expanded on the supermarkets and how globalization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The definition is excellent in describing the system that is present today. Friedman pointed out that
markets around the globe become intertwined into one web of connectivity, where one company in
North America can easily interact and do business with an individual in Asia, and create profits.
However, the inter connectivity I believe in has more to it. Going beyond what Friedman stated, I
argue that the globalization of world markets not only helps the existing large financial centers of the
world, but also smaller, and often times, newer markets. While I do not agree with the outsourcing of
jobs, the factories moved to lower wage countries is a benefit to people working, and living there. It
offers employment, and a life to the workers that they would have never had if the factories were
never sent there. It helps the poorer nations in developing an economy, and become part of the global
market. Friedman said that Supermarkets can destroy nations (473), but its power could also aid the
poorer nations to grow and even maybe, join the global

Macrophages:
Ganoderma derived polysaccharides have been shown to increase the peritoneal macrophage
phagocytosis in vitro and in vivo [50, 51]. Apart from the activated macrophages, IL 1β, IL 6 and TNF

calcium have further shown that Ganoderma can induce cellular as well as extracellular release or
influx of Ca2+ ions [52].

Natural Killer (NK) cells are immune cells which are kenned to exhibit cytotoxicity towards various

The triterpenoids in Ganoderma possess 5α reductase inhibitory potential which further have been

the activation of macrophages and their downstream molecules (Nitric Oxide, TNF α) [62,63].

Death, what we all have in common.
Many people will go through life without ever putting much thought into when or how we will die,
some people will die suddenly or quickly while others will experience a slow agonizing death that
makes them put their whole life into perspective. The film Wit (Bosanquet et al., 2001) shows Vivian

Sugar And Slaves By Richard Dunn

Sugar Societies in the West Indies
During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the sugar islands played a very important role for the
British government. They saw these colonies as an extremely beneficial mercantile society that could
gross them a great deal of wealth. However, for the colonists living on these islands it was an intense
struggle between enormous fortune and a premature death. Richard Dunn, author of Sugar and Slaves:
The Rise of the Planter Class in the English West Indies, 1624 1713, decided to shed light on these
seldom mentioned groups of settlers, who chose the Caribbean islands over mainland America. The
first settlers of the islands being buccaneers, along with their short lifespan, coupled with the
monoculture of the islands and a severe disparity between the rich and poor, created a distinct culture,
in what Dunn describes as a classically proportioned sugar society (Dunn 165).
Dunn begins his book in 1624, with the English gaining a foothold on the tiny island of St.
Christopher in the Caribbean. From that solitary outpost emerged a cohesive and potent master class
of tobacco and sugar planters that spread throughout the Caribbean (46), especially in Barbados and
Jamaica. Dunn refers to this society as a classically proportioned sugar society (165). What this means
is that there were few very wealthy sugar planters who owned and managed large masses of slaves.
Big planters, at their height, were

Taking a Look at Types of Lodging
These past few years, the lodging industry has been growing very significantly. The global hospitality
sector witnessed a strong appetite for growth in 2013, a trend that is set to continue and pick up pace
in 2014 (Strong Performance Predicted for Global Lodging Industry in 2014, 2014). A decade before,
there were no many options of the lodging accommodation. But with the massive growth of
hospitality industry, lodging accommodations are now varied. Full serviced hotels, hostels or
dormitories and Bed Breakfast are some of the examples.
First, the most popular lodging accommodation is hotel. Hotel can be defined as a structure that
provides sleeping accommodation to travelers and that usually features dining facilities and daily
housekeeping service (Akram, 2009). There are various kinds of hotel that can be distinguished by its
style, function, or location. For example, the trends that are getting popular nowadays are boutique
hotels. Boutique hotels are typically furnished in a themed, stylish and/or aspirational manner
(jonckie, 2011). While there are also business hotels which are targeted at the needs of business
travelers and tend to be located in city centres and at airports. Guestrooms are equipped with spacious
desks, and Internet connection (Akram, 2009). People choose hotels rather than other budget
accommodation because they are looking for nice facilities and services.
Another popular alternative is hostel. A hostel is a budget oriented,

neither countries trade with each other because of many disagreements about governing techniques

Analysis Of The Gilded Age
New Spirits is a major text in Gilded Age historiography because Edwards encompasses social,
political, and economic history, weaving them together into a cohesive narrative. Critics mention her
lack of footnotes (but are quick to point out that her extensive for further reading sections help to
balance this) and that her emphasis on cohesion may be overstated. Edward s thesis is that the Gilded
Age was not a patently bad time in American history, but that America underwent tremendous change,
ushering it into what has laid the groundwork for the modern nation.
Introduction
Edwards introduces a number of tragedies occurring during the Gilded period including ravaging fires

How Did The Mexican American War Dbq
The Mexican American War helped change in territorial rights between Mexico and the United States.
For Mexico, the war was unnecessary for and was only fought to protect their land and the people
living in it. While for United States, it was seen as a conquest of gaining the land that they believe was
their God given right. The Mexican American war is seen as an imperialist war due to the developing
independence in Texas, America s imperialism resulting in Manifest Destiny, and its Post war
expansion. In 1830, After the revolt against Mexican authority, Texas desire of becoming its own
independent republic became stronger. This later turned into a full on battle for the Alamo and Goliad.
After winning these battles the Texian volunteers fought against the Mexican army, while this was
happening American colony political leaders met in convention and declared Texas independence as
of March 2nd 1836. Later after turning on San Houston, Santa Anne was defeated and executed at the
battle of San Jacinto on April 21 1836. The next day San Houston was captured and forced to sign the
treaty of Velasco promising to withdraw all Mexican troops from Texas, end the war and recognize the
independence of Texas. This is shown in Document 7. Not only does Document 7 show the events that

The Problem Of Homeless Families
Homeless Families
Before I began the research I had already known that single parent homelessness is a n extremely
emotional and heart breaking problem. In seventh grade my family and I went on vacation to New
York City and I remember seeing a good of homeless people on street corners, but what surprised me
the most was seeing younger people who appeared homeless. It s a obvious answer, I m against
homelessness and family homelessness even more. It truly is heartbreaking to see little children who
are forced to grow up because their parents cannot provide for the family. It s like animal shelter
commercials, only the heartless can t feel for them. That s what makes it interesting, how they do it
and live their lives without a home. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These families live together in any shelter they can find. They try to get a spot in shelters but there is
not enough shelter space to fit every homeless family so they have to resort to living on the streets.
The reason I say that it is socially underrated is because the money dedicated is falling, how can a
problem be fixed if the needed resources begin to disappear? In the words of the National Coalition
for the Homeless, the federal support for low income housing has fallen forty nine percent from 1980
to 2003 (National Low Income Housing Coalition, 2005). Even if family homelessness is a subtopic of
the extremely broad topic of homeless does not mean that it isn t important, however it still sits in the
shadow of general homelessness. In the first source, Homeless Families with Children , published by
the National Coalition for the homeless in July of 2009, I found many statistics related the dimensions,
causes, consequences, and policy issues about family homelessness. This article mainly consisted of
logical appeals with very little emotion added into the article. One of the most eye opening logical
appeals used in the article is the ratio of homeless children to kids with homes. The National Center on
Family Homelessness estimates, that one in 50 children in the United States are homeless. (1) This
really shows that family homeless really is a rising problem in the United States. So wouldn t more job

The Medieval Period Of The Middle Ages
During the Middle ages countless disputes over power occur. From corrupted government officials, to
establishing a proper structure for Roman Catholicism. However, one can argue whether it s good or
bad intentions with great powers comes great responsibility. The Medieval period began from the 5th
century when the Western Roman Empire collapsed, to 15th century. During the Medieval Period the
Roman Church was the dominated church. The church controlled religion, philosophy, morals,
politics, art and education. In addition, many practices from the Middle Ages laid the foundations to
today s modern world. Charles the Greats of the franks, also known as Charlemagne was a Medieval
Emperor during 800. Ruling majority of Europe by spreading the outbreak of religion and culture.
Charles the Great was a man of knowledge, as he was fluent in Latin, he studied Greek and liberal
arts, giving him personality as a scholar. Unlike his predecessor Charlemagne supported education,
one of his goals was to provide an educated clergy. The educated clergy was usually a group of
religious servants, performing administrative duties for the government. Furthermore, to continue
Greco Roman cultural legacy he made Christianity the domain religion in regions of Western Europe.
However, Charles the Great was challenged as Emperor of the Romans because Emperor of the

Student Athletes Are Deserving Of Economic Remuneration
The seven most popular sports (in order) in the United States are: NFL, MLB, NCAAF, auto racing,
NBA, NHL, and NCAAM (Rovell, 2014). Five of the sports included are professional where the
athletes are paid. However, two of them NCAAF and NCAAM are amateur sports headed by student
athletes who are not paid. When these college sports are on par with professional organizations that
are worth billions of dollars, then the amateurism behind the NCAAF and NCAAM is questioned. In
fact, the NCAA generates almost a billion dollars annually. Since the athletes in question are amateur
student athletes, paying them might damage the integrity of the sports. Therefore, there is an ongoing
contested debate over whether student athletes are deserving of ... Show more content on

However, amateurism is an illusion because the NCAA insatiably embrace[s] commercialism in all
facets of intercollegiate athletics except on a single issue athlete compensation (Zola, 2013). The
1980s is where NCAAM and NCAAF exploded as businesses. The Supreme Court, in 1984, struck
down the NCAA s restrictions on television appearances. This coincided with the government
deregulation of cable television and, ultimately, led to massive television contracts and sports stations
covering NCAAM and NCAAF. As the athletic departments of universities expanded profoundly, they
continued to reiterate the student in student athletes. By doing so, they built the boundary up as an
effective defense from allowing college athletes to get a cut of the newfound income. In 1988, the
NCAA became an effective private institution when the Supreme Court ruled against Jerry Tarkanian
and allowed the NCAA to dismiss due process during their investigations. Amateurism, in the sake of
college football and men s basketball, is a falsehood and a boundary created by the NCAA and
enforced by college coaches and athletic departments. The meaning behind the category of student
athletes was empowered by the NCAA in the 1950s to fend off lawsuits and implement the sanctity of
college sports as amateur sports. The NCAA s moral authority lies in the term student athlete and is
meant to conjure the nobility of amateurism, and the precedence

Persuasive Essay On Freedom And Privacy
We live in a world of ever growing technology. A world more connected than ever before in human
history and no one saw it coming even a few decades ago. In that short time, we have seen a world
more connected, one where everyone can know nearly anything about anyone and everything. It also
means that there is more potential for someone to be watching us at almost all times without our
knowing. This can be done through the internet or through what most usually think of when thinking
of surveillance, cameras. Surveillance can be done by anyone who truly wants to do it. It is usually
done by big internet corporations like Google, for example, who collects the data of their users all the
time and by governments. In this essay, I ll be focusing on the United States government s use of
surveillance through cameras, their collection of data of the very people they are meant to serve and
how that poses a great threat to individual freedom and privacy. In 2013, Edward Snowden, who some
view as a patriot and others a traitor, exposed the world exactly what was going on in the United
States. The National Security Agency or NSA had been tapping phones, collecting data and watching
the citizens of the United States as well as people around the world, including heads of states of US

The Autobiography Of Malcolm X
Do something about it. Everyone has problems from struggles in life. Malcolm X told his life story of
how he overcame in his autobiography simply called The Autobiography of Malcolm X as told to
Alex Haley. His life changed the world historically, socially, and especially politically by taking a
stand against racism of all kinds which still exists in today s modern standards. Using his personal life
experience with racism towards African Americans, Malcolm spreads the word on equality for all with
a realistic tone that inspires trust in him. Malcolm X reaches all kinds of people in an effort to voice
his thoughts on equality for all using rhetorical and persuasive techniques for a more effective
message. From the beginning, the story Malcolm X tells uses a tone of realism and relatability to
establish a dominant impression upon the reader s mind. An example of this tone is when Malcolm, at
a young age, accepts his ultimate fate that had just befallen his father. Malcolm tells Alex that It has
always been my belief that I, too, will die by violence. I have done all that I can to be prepared (4).
The definitiveness he says this with is not an attempt at making readers feel empathy for him, but to
appeal to logic by presenting this as a fact of the kind of world he lives in. When Malcolm chooses to
state die by violence (4) instead of describing what kind of violence or with more emotion, he gets the

Monterey Bay Experience Essay
In order to gain more knowledge and a better understanding of postcolonial discourses within the
context of the Monterey Bay area I conducted my field research at the Carmel mission. I decided to do
my field research relating to the carmel mission because I am interested in the psychological effects
Native Americans experienced during the creation of the missions and how the missionaries affected
them. In addition, other reasons why I chose this postcolonial issue is because I wanted to gain more
knowledge on the missions, since I was given a very vague historical description in primary school.
Lastly, I was curious in this topic because I wanted to engage in multiple perspectives and to hear
what individuals really knew about the mission. Moreover, the Carmel mission was founded in June of
1770 by Saint Junipero Serra. The mission was primarily built to convert natives, establish territory,
and create stopping points along California. Native american tribes such as the Esselen and other
Costanoan tribes were the main groups who lived in that area who ... Show more content on

encountered abuse. Physical abuse such as being whipped, burned, raped, and beated were all known
practices. In addition native culture, language, and spiritual practices were often forbidden under the
mission system. In an attempt to free themselves from this form of oppression and unhealthy lifestyle
some indians ran away. Unfortunately, running away from the mission was not enough. The
missionaries would bring back indians to the mission regardless of choice and they would be punished

Conformity and Obedience Essays
Conformity and Obedience Why do we conform? Two basic sources of influence: normative social
influence, the need to be liked, accepted by others and Informational influence: need to be correct and
to behave in accordance with reality. Solomon Asch (1956) devised an experiment to see if subjects
would conform even if they were uncertain that the group norm was incorrect. In his study he asked
subjects to take part in an experiment. They were each asked to match a standard length line with three
other lines. He found that one of the situational factors of conformity is the size of the opposing
majority. In a series of studies he varied the number of confederates that gave correct answers from 1

Moscovici found that consistency in the minority was important in winning over the majority with
respect to the colour of the slides. Not all decisions are made from a majority influence. For example,
the suffragettes started a movement in 1920 which changed the public and private opinion allowing
women to have the right to vote in western society. As long as a minority stick by four basic rules then
they stand a good chance of succeeding in their campaign. They need to be Consistent in their views,
Flexible not too rigid in their views, Committed to the cause until it s heard and Relevant, they have
more chance of being influential if their views are in line with social trends. Another experiment that
psychologists use in respect of conformity and obedience is an experiment that was carried out by a
psychologist named Stanley Milgram. He recruited 40 male participants by advertising for volunteers
to take part in a study to see how punishment affects learning. The study was to take place at Yale
University and everyone would be paid the same rate of $4.50 and they were informed that they would
still get paid if they quit during the study. There were two confederates one an experimenter and the
other a learner. The participants were always the teacher. The teacher was placed with the psychologist

Criticisms of the Distributive Model in Social Justice Iris Marion Young takes on a strong position
surrounding the notion of a distributive model within the realm of social justice in Justice and The
Politics of Difference. She does not believe the distributive model truly encompasses the issues within
social justice, but rather limits social justice to the fair and just distribution of advantage and strain
amongst the members of society. The distributive model fails to acknowledge the process that limits
the distribution of human rights to society s members, thus lacking the means to evoke change. Young
takes on a position that focuses on the process of domination and oppression within society and how
that should be the primary focus when trying to understand social justice. The distributive paradigm or
model that Young refers to in her book defines social justice as the morally proper distribution of
benefits and burdens among society s members (Young 16). In that regard, social justice is being
viewed as the distribution of material goods, resources, and other means of economic advancement.
Social justice is much broader and goes far deeper than simply defining who gets what. While the
distribution of resources, wealth, and material goods is an important factor when thinking about social
justice, it should not be the center of discussion. The distribution of such things comes first from the
initiation of a social system that defined who was worthy of receiving resources in life. To think that
social justice is solely about the distribution of wealthy possessions, ignores the fact that there are
social structures that have been put into place in order to control the distribution. In a sense, the
distributive model only acknowledges the effects of the issue and not the cause. By only focusing on
the distribution of wealth, resources, income, and jobs in society, the distributive model leaves out the
way social constructions of race and class have allocated the distribution of such possessions. There
are institutions within society that are controlling the distribution of various material things in society,
and have been put in

The Dystopian Novel The Maze Runner
The Dystopian Novel The Maze Runner has a rather dark and cold theme to it, yet some find the story
to be lacking the naturalistic feel that some search for when they read. (We will be using theme by the
verb definition while describing The Maze Runner in this essay.) The Maze Runner has a very tranquil
feel to it and no matter what was happening it didn t feel real. Even as Thomas were being chased by
the Grievers, leaving his dear friend and leader Alby behind hung like some wet clothes out to dry,
some readers were not brought to the edge of one s seat like they expected to be. The way the
characters are written and the way they interact really does not show that they have lived and survived
together in the Glade like the author probably intended. Everyone is so separated, not a close bond in
sight. No one actually has a color of their own other than that of some dingy, off colored green they all
seem to share. All of the characters were pretty static. With the amount of hype everyone made this
book out to be some can only say that they are deeply disappointed at how droll this whole entire book
was.
One of the hardest things in writing is getting the sensations and scenes in your head onto paper good
enough for another person to read and see almost the same thing. It is a challenge, most authors can
attest to that being the case. The problem with The Maze Runner is that no matter how hard the author
tried some readers could not find oneself enraptured by this

The Similarities Between Thomas Nast And Political Cartoons
During many interesting time periods of American history, news about impactful events were not only
communicated to the people through the radio or news articles. In fact an even more intriguing
medium was used to serve this purpose, Thomas nast was an illustrator that made comics. In the
current day, there are still many cartoons made about the American Government. This form of news
telling attracts a massive amount of people because of how much more engaging it makes news.
Thomas Nast made huge contributions to making the news entertaining, he did his art on presidents,
wars, and sometimes how we treat foreign countries. He arrived in New York at the age of six, from
Germany, and started illustrator for Harper s weekly. Harper s weekly held a status that proved them to
be worthy of praise. As a publishing house, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the twenty first century, we should maintain and uphold political cartoons, and keep them present
because they capture such a huge audience. Today, there are many cartoons and drawings about our
government. A prime example would be the cartoons directed towards president Trump and his
immature ways of handling threats from North Korea. Many Cartoons were displayed on the front
pages of the internet. New Sites such as Mercury News, and Social media sites such as pinterest, all
feature these comics and political cartoons on the topic. One cartoon shows Trump and Kim Jong Un
in an angry fight similar to how kids would to communicate the idea of immaturity. The Websites

Relations Between Nicaragua And The Western Hemisphere And...
Many foreign policy makers in the western hemisphere and other developing countries often behave
as if capitalism and democracy are inseparable. Nevertheless, there are some scholars that argue that
the relationship between this political and economic systems are not complicated. Democracy and the
market economy are two systems that are closely intertwined and mutually reinforcing or weakening.
Since both of them are related to freedom. If one of these systems is strengthened , the other also
strengthens and weakens if one weakens the other. Most Latin American countries, including
Nicaragua have struggled to establish a democratic political system and have a capitalist economic
system, since this so called capitalism is hierarchical, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Nicaragua still struggles to show democracy as its political ideology. Thus, jeopardizing the
role of capitalism. In order to understand how democracy and capitalism have thrived as a political
ideology and economic system in the Republic of Nicaragua, people should understand all the
struggles that people in the country had to experience since 1979. After the guerrillas took over the
country, they overthrew the president and abolished the dictatorship that Nicaragua had endured for a
long time. After a couple of years, people in Nicaragua were finally able to elect democratically who
they wanted as their president. This was something that marked history in Nicaragua since this was a
turning point in its political system, they went from dictatorship to a democratic government. Since
before 1979, Nicaragua has always dealt with corruption everywhere. However, Daniel Ortega who
was now the president of the republic, brought even more corruption and even more misery to the
country. He began to ally with communist presidents, and therefore, became a socio democrat country
for a while. After a couple of years, Nicaragua was more destroyed and devastated that it ever was.
Not only did Nicaragua become a capitalist country but also, went back to dictatorship. Daniel Ortega
took over the country and destroyed any opposition that was ever created, he believed that he was

Effects Of Matrix Stiffness On Primary Pancreatic Cancer...
3. Results (620 current730)
3.1 Softer substrate regulates proliferation of primary pancreatic cancer cells
To study the effects of matrix stiffness on primary pancreatic cell proliferation, we first developed a
2D hydrogel system with stiffness (SSM) that mimic those of healthy pancreatic tissue and cancerous
pancreas previously characterized. Briefly, the cancerous pancreatic tissue had a larger range of SSM
(2kPa 30kPa) and a higher average SSM than normal tissue (0.8 4 kPa). Consequently, to account for
the variability of stiffness on cancerous tissue, our model included two groups of PA hydrogels with
Acrylamide:Bisacrylamide (Ac:Bis) ratios of: (1) 6%:0.075% and (2) 10%:0.075% 25kPa yielding an
average SSM of 8kPa and 25kPa ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We examined the viability of the cells in response to the chemotherapeutic as a function of the matrix
stiffness (Figure 2C). We observed that as the cells underwent apoptosis they detached from the
substrates. Consequently, we collected the media before (Day 7) and after (Day 10) the chemotherapy
to quantify the number of cells in suspension. As depicted on Figure 2C, the PC cells cultured on
softer substrates experience larger increase in dead cells resulting from the chemotherapy compared to
the PC cells growing on stiffer substrates. As Figure 2A shows, both Gemcitabine concentrations lead
to a change in cell morphology and a higher decrease in cell area on the softer PC tumors (3kPa and
8kPa) compared to the stiffer PC tumors (25kPa and control group).
To further explore the effect of matrix stiffness on the response of PC cells to chemotherapy, we used
enzymatic activity as a metric of cell proliferation. We perform alamarBlue® assay before adding the
Gemcitabine treatment and after 72hrs of treatment. As depicted in Figure 2B, there is a dramatic (x x
for 2um and xx for 5uM) decrease of the enzymatic activity of the PC cells growing on softer
substrates in response to the chemotherapy. On the other hand, the PC cells growing on stiffer matrices
shows no decrease of enzymatic activity when treated with 2 µM of Gemcitabine and a xx when
treated with 5µM of

Causes Of Valley Forge Dbq Essay
The cold, harsh winter in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania dejects the soldiers who continue to starve,
freeze, and remain ill. The Continental Army doesn t even know whether they will survive due to
these bad conditions, and most of the soldiers start to lose their hope, strength, and willingness. It all
started when George Washington was granted the general of the American army by the Continental
Congress in 1775. His soldiers have been struggling day and night to fight for their independence and
freedom. However, Washington s troops were forced to retreat to Pennsylvania by the British army,
and are now stuck in the winter camp at Valley Forge. It is cold, the air is smokey, and there is no
supplies or goods left for the soldiers. Also, there is a disease spreading around the camp like a virus
that continues to infect the Continental Army. How will they ever ... Show more content on

This can be shown in Document C which was written in 1777 by Dr. Albigence Waldo who was a
Connecticut surgeon who helped care for the sick soldiers. This doctor wrote, A general cry thro the
Camp this Evening among the Soldiers, No Meat! No Meat! the Distant vales Echo d back the
melancholy sound No Meat! No Meat! (Waldo, 1777) This means that during the winter, the army had
no meat to strengthen the soldiers and provide them protein. This also means that they soldiers
probably starved during their miserable time at Valley Forge. This is significant because without meat,
the soldiers will not be capable of facing the British army. Therefore, their energy will soon run out
because they will be running and fighting on an empty stomach. Clearly, the soldiers should leave the
winter camp because they will likely die if they stay. The troops could also die because they will
potentially die from the cold due to the lack of

Essay On Minorities In The Civil Rights Movement
Minorities face oppression in any society, each minority having a perspective and situation unique to
their own experience. The complex relationship between the Asian Americans and other people of
color s opinions regarding affirmative action, an outcome of the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960 s,
act as a stark reminder of the different effects of past injustices and current inequalities depending on
the particular ethnic group. Affirmative action, essentially a policy designed to
compensation/reparation/redress for the present disadvantages which minorities face as a result from
past injuries and injustices throughout history with measures to improve their educational and
economic opportunities. However, with affirmative action providing special privileges to minorities

Systematic oppression and discrimination against people of color and immigrants have placed these
ethnic groups in present positions that fail to provide them with the necessary resources and
opportunities to maximize their full potential.Questions, however, start to surface about the fairness of
holding the American government and society responsible/accountable for the persecution that African
Americans and other minorities were submitted to. Although the past American society and
government did play roles in the suppression of the minorities throughout American history, the
current American government and society are now completely different entities. Comprised of a
variety of people from a multitude of backgrounds, the present day American government and society
differs greatly from their predecessors. If advocates of affirmative action justify it as a form of
compensation, then the usage of Affirmative action accepts and condones the idea of retribution. It is
unfair to hold the new diverse generation of Americans responsible for past persecution and injustices
committed by past

Desire May Lead To Destruction In A Streetcar Named Desire
Desire May Lead to Destruction In the play Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee Williams shows
Blanche as a symbol of a Southern lady, the pinnacle of a civilization. In the forties, upper class
southern women s expectations were based on a Victorian model of a woman. The perception was that
women did not express their sexuality and wore clothing that did not expose any body parts. Also,
women did not have many roles except for a housewife, and two appropriate jobs as a teacher or a
nurse. Blanche is an English teacher from a Mississippi. She was raised in a wealthy family and got a
great education. At sixteen years old, she fell deeply in love with a boy named Allan Gray (Williams
1857). Their marriage served as different grounds for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Right away, he told his wife and Mitch about it. While Blanche was taking a bath she was singing, But
it wouldn t be make believe if you believe in me ( Williams 1861). Blanche knows that she lied to
Mitch and kept the truth from her sister. Thus, the lyrics she was singing show that she lives in her
world of illusions. That day, she was expecting Mitch to come over to celebrate her birthday.
However, he did not show up. At a table, Stanley gave Blanche a ticket back to Laurel as a gift,
knowing that she can not go back there. Stella was upset about it because she knew that it will ruin her
tender and trusting sister (Williams 1865). According to Encyclopedia Britannica, psychotic behavior
can come and go as a result of various influences. The effects of some drugs can cause psychotic
episodes, or a traumatic situation that affects a person s psychological well being might trigger the
episode of neurosis ( Neurosis ). Blanche feels like her future is slipping away from her and becomes
highly neurotic. In her head, she hears the same polka tune, the Varsouviana , (after which Allen shot
himself) and she started to drink to escape the reality (Williams 1866). The Same night when Mitch
came to confront her, she admits to him about intimacies and school expulsion. When he said that she
told him all lies, in return she said, Never inside, I didn t lie in my heart and I don t want realism. I
want magic! (Williams 1869). Maybe in her mind she was still married to Allen. At the very last, it
gives Blanche a credit for her honesty. Nothing in the play justifies the condemnation of her. Yet,
nothing justifies her innocence either after her husband s death (Thomieres

Racial Discrimination In Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
In the story Of Mice and Men, symbolizes many things such as racial discrimination. Crooks has a
hard time fitting in with the crowd because of his race. And having hopes and dreams nearly crushed
by reality. He might represent the racial equality in the past where the President didn t have a speech
about treating others with respect. Because he wanted to describe the inequality of races while keeping
the subtlety. As said by Crooks, I can t play cards because I m black, (Steinbeck 68). That might be the
reason why he s extremely lonely amongst the rest. Crooks has tried so much to make friends with
people, He lost all of his trust. He s gotten his name from his severed spine being kicked or getting hit
on numerous times while caring for the stables as a slave. Curley on the other hand is a egotistical one
of a kind who likes to pick on people he thinks are weak compared to his strengths. I wouldn t pick a
fight with him, Because it s going to get hot! Although he s the son of the ranch boss, That doesn t
change anything at all. The author s syntax is a unique way of writing because it gives off a pioneer
and cowboy ish feel to the story with it s complex grouping of words. It is effective towards the
characters and/or the reader because of how hard it is to speak in a certain way without messing it up.
Though the people back then could fluently enunciate without error, Our minds mentally fix it and we
read it out loud based on how we see it visually. It s supposed to

peasant farming society, the U.S. involvement due to the military coup, and the joining of Prince

Genocides typically occur during a civil revolution or political upheaval. Prince Sihanouk put into

independent, safe, and neutral during the Vietnam War. He cut off economic and military support from
the United States and nationalize all Cambodian imports and exports . This predominantly helped him
cut all diplomatic ties with the United States and remain in good favor with the North Vietnamese. By

Manorialism Dbq
Economic systems have been enforced in society to create order. Therefore various systems have
influenced many nations, regions, and groups of people throughout the course of history. Manorialism
is one primary example that demonstrates the influences an economic system can have on a nation. It
was a prominent system throughout the Middle Ages in Western Europe. Manorialism is considered
the economic side of feudalism, a political system where kings in Europe gave away land to nobles in
return for their loyalty, military service and labor.
Another essential example is mercantilism which was dominant during the Age of Exploration.
Mercantilism is a system that relies on the colonies existence to make the mother country wealthy.

Gold and silver brought the great wealth of European nations as well as the enslavement of the African
people. This is demonstrated in an excerpt from a letter written in 1559 by Michele Soriano he states,
...great quantities of gold and silver are no longer found upon the surface of the earth, as they have
been in past years; and to penetrate into the bowels of the earth requires greater effort... the Spaniards
are not willing to do the work themselves, and the natives cannot be forced to do so... it is necessary to
acquire negro slaves [enslaved Africans], who are brought from the coasts of Africa . Spain s
interactions with its colonies in the Americas were frequent, therefore resources such as gold and
silver began to reduce, this is why they had to dig deeper into the earth. Therefore it was essential for
Europe to get laborers to work in the mines colonies because Spaniards were unwilling to do the work
and the Native Americans were unable to do work due to the Emperors freed them. Michele Soriano
also writes, The fifth part of all that is produced goes to the king, but since the gold and silver is
brought to Spain and he has a tenth part of that which goes to the mint...

  • 3. Gulf Stream Research Paper The Gulf Stream is one of the largest and fastest ocean currents on earth covering approximately 10,000 km (The Gulf Stream Explained, n.d). The Gulf Stream originates from a warm water current transported to the Gulf of Mexico by the Southeast Trade Winds (The Gulf Stream Explained, n.d). Once in the Gulf of Mexico this mass of water heats up and fueled by the Westerly Winds it starts to move towards Europe passing along the U.S East coast (The Gulf Stream Explained, n.d). While traveling on its path the Gulf Stream regulates the temperature on the east coast of the U.S and in some parts of Europe. • 4. Globalization The Super Story By Thomas Friedman Analysis We are said to be living in a world with a transparent and yet to develop war. But how can anyone really see it and understand it if no one is aware of how tragic events happen, who and how many people, countries and nations are behind it and how it all connects to technology. At least, that is what Thomas L. Freidman writes about in his article Globalization: The Super Story . Friedman s article was a very interesting read, especially since it touches upon some pretty dense and forgotten subjects, such as global politics, technology and history. When I read the title of this article I expected Friedman to discuss about global markets and the interaction of nations yet I was amazed when he expanded on the supermarkets and how globalization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The definition is excellent in describing the system that is present today. Friedman pointed out that markets around the globe become intertwined into one web of connectivity, where one company in North America can easily interact and do business with an individual in Asia, and create profits. However, the inter connectivity I believe in has more to it. Going beyond what Friedman stated, I argue that the globalization of world markets not only helps the existing large financial centers of the world, but also smaller, and often times, newer markets. While I do not agree with the outsourcing of jobs, the factories moved to lower wage countries is a benefit to people working, and living there. It offers employment, and a life to the workers that they would have never had if the factories were never sent there. It helps the poorer nations in developing an economy, and become part of the global market. Friedman said that Supermarkets can destroy nations (473), but its power could also aid the poorer nations to grow and even maybe, join the global ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Sugar And Slaves By Richard Dunn Lydia Phillips Dr. Hill HIST 300SS 9/15/15 Sugar Societies in the West Indies During the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the sugar islands played a very important role for the British government. They saw these colonies as an extremely beneficial mercantile society that could gross them a great deal of wealth. However, for the colonists living on these islands it was an intense struggle between enormous fortune and a premature death. Richard Dunn, author of Sugar and Slaves: The Rise of the Planter Class in the English West Indies, 1624 1713, decided to shed light on these seldom mentioned groups of settlers, who chose the Caribbean islands over mainland America. The first settlers of the islands being buccaneers, along with their short lifespan, coupled with the monoculture of the islands and a severe disparity between the rich and poor, created a distinct culture, in what Dunn describes as a classically proportioned sugar society (Dunn 165). Dunn begins his book in 1624, with the English gaining a foothold on the tiny island of St. Christopher in the Caribbean. From that solitary outpost emerged a cohesive and potent master class of tobacco and sugar planters that spread throughout the Caribbean (46), especially in Barbados and Jamaica. Dunn refers to this society as a classically proportioned sugar society (165). What this means is that there were few very wealthy sugar planters who owned and managed large masses of slaves. Critics mention her lack of footnotes (but are quick to point out that her extensive for further reading sections help to balance this) and that her emphasis on cohesion may be overstated. Edward s thesis is that the Gilded Age was not a patently bad time in American history, but that America underwent tremendous change, ushering it into what has laid the groundwork for the modern nation. These immense changes led to a more mobile culture. 46 America became a global country because of so many immigrants and the immense exchange and assimilation of cultures into mainstream American culture. 53 The Chinese Exclusion Act had a profound long term impact on immigration policy. For Mexico, the war was unnecessary for and was only fought to protect their land and the people living in it. While for United States, it was seen as a conquest of gaining the land that they believe was their God given right. The Mexican American war is seen as an imperialist war due to the developing independence in Texas, America s imperialism resulting in Manifest Destiny, and its Post war expansion. In seventh grade my family and I went on vacation to New York City and I remember seeing a good of homeless people on street corners, but what surprised me the most was seeing younger people who appeared homeless. It s a obvious answer, I m against homelessness and family homelessness even more. In the words of the National Coalition for the Homeless, the federal support for low income housing has fallen forty nine percent from 1980 to 2003 (National Low Income Housing Coalition, 2005). Even if family homelessness is a subtopic of the extremely broad topic of homeless does not mean that it isn t important, however it still sits in the shadow of general homelessness. In the first source, Homeless Families with Children , published by the National Coalition for the homeless in July of 2009, I found many statistics related the dimensions, causes, consequences, and policy issues about family homelessness. This article mainly consisted of logical appeals with very little emotion added into the article. One of the most eye opening logical appeals used in the article is the ratio of homeless children to kids with homes. In that short time, we have seen a world more connected, one where everyone can know nearly anything about anyone and everything. It also means that there is more potential for someone to be watching us at almost all times without our knowing. This can be done through the internet or through what most usually think of when thinking of surveillance, cameras. Surveillance can be done by anyone who truly wants to do it. It is usually done by big internet corporations like Google, for example, who collects the data of their users all the time and by governments. Using his personal life experience with racism towards African Americans, Malcolm spreads the word on equality for all with a realistic tone that inspires trust in him. Malcolm X reaches all kinds of people in an effort to voice his thoughts on equality for all using rhetorical and persuasive techniques for a more effective message. From the beginning, the story Malcolm X tells uses a tone of realism and relatability to establish a dominant impression upon the reader s mind. An example of this tone is when Malcolm, at a young age, accepts his ultimate fate that had just befallen his father. Malcolm tells Alex that It has always been my belief that I, too, will die by violence. I have done all that I can to be prepared (4). The definitiveness he says this with is not an attempt at making readers feel empathy for him, but to appeal to logic by presenting this as a fact of the kind of world he lives in. I decided to do my field research relating to the carmel mission because I am interested in the psychological effects Native Americans experienced during the creation of the missions and how the missionaries affected them. In addition, other reasons why I chose this postcolonial issue is because I wanted to gain more knowledge on the missions, since I was given a very vague historical description in primary school. Moreover, the Carmel mission was founded in June of 1770 by Saint Junipero Serra. The mission was primarily built to convert natives, establish territory, and create stopping points along California. Two basic sources of influence: normative social influence, the need to be liked, accepted by others and Informational influence: need to be correct and to behave in accordance with reality. Solomon Asch (1956) devised an experiment to see if subjects would conform even if they were uncertain that the group norm was incorrect. In his study he asked subjects to take part in an experiment. They were each asked to match a standard length line with three other lines. He found that one of the situational factors of conformity is the size of the opposing majority. • 22. Criticisms Of The Distributive Model In Social Justice Wadood, Jaleel AfroAm 188A Sem 3 Spring 2017 Professor Rogers May 26, 2017 Criticisms of the Distributive Model in Social Justice Iris Marion Young takes on a strong position surrounding the notion of a distributive model within the realm of social justice in Justice and The Politics of Difference. She does not believe the distributive model truly encompasses the issues within social justice, but rather limits social justice to the fair and just distribution of advantage and strain amongst the members of society. The distributive model fails to acknowledge the process that limits the distribution of human rights to society s members, thus lacking the means to evoke change. Young takes on a position that focuses on the process of domination and oppression within society and how that should be the primary focus when trying to understand social justice. The distributive paradigm or model that Young refers to in her book defines social justice as the morally proper distribution of benefits and burdens among society s members (Young 16). In that regard, social justice is being viewed as the distribution of material goods, resources, and other means of economic advancement. Social justice is much broader and goes far deeper than simply defining who gets what. While the distribution of resources, wealth, and material goods is an important factor when thinking about social justice, it should not be the center of discussion. The distribution of such things comes first from the initiation of a social system that defined who was worthy of receiving resources in life. To think that social justice is solely about the distribution of wealthy possessions, ignores the fact that there are social structures that have been put into place in order to control the distribution. In a sense, the distributive model only acknowledges the effects of the issue and not the cause. By only focusing on the distribution of wealth, resources, income, and jobs in society, the distributive model leaves out the way social constructions of race and class have allocated the distribution of such possessions. There are institutions within society that are controlling the distribution of various material things in society, and have been put in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even as Thomas were being chased by the Grievers, leaving his dear friend and leader Alby behind hung like some wet clothes out to dry, some readers were not brought to the edge of one s seat like they expected to be.
