The Pros And Cons Of Fluoridation Of Water
It s in our water, our toothpaste, our mouthwash, and even our food. This may sound like the opening
sentence to some zombie virus horror flick, but this is a reality. The element fluorine is added to many
consumer products, such as mouthwash, toothpaste, and municipal water. The fluoridation of these
products began in 1945, when the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan, became the first city to fluoridate
its water supply and had been ever present since. Some advantages of this process are fluorine aids in
preventing tooth carrie, or decay. Some disadvantages are fluorosis, a change in enamel opacity. Some
claim that Fluoride can cause mental disabilities in children, but claims and studies such as these are
often discredited. Water fluoridation is a very widespread topic which comes with its own advantages,
disadvantages, and a unique history.
Fluoridation of water began in the United States and Canada during 1945 and 1946, with Grand
Rapids, Michigan being the first city ever to use fluoridated water. The 1940 s and 1950 s began the
crusade for fluoridated water, after research done by the U.S. Public Health Service explored the
effects of fluorine and the recommended dosages. During this time, producers began to insert fluoride
into many products, such as toothpaste, mouthwash, or processed beverages. Much of the research
suggesting the percentages of fluoride in these products was conducted before the 1980 s, so many
different modes and suggestions have evolved.

Sleepy Lagoon Trial
The Sleepy Lagoon Murder Trial was one of the most shocking displays of injustice carried on by the
court of California. The trial focused on the murder of twenty two year old Jose Diaz who had been
beaten and stabbed near a reservoir known as Sleepy Lagoon. Sleepy Lagoon had always been a place
that comminity and gang members frequently visited located in East Los Angeles. On the evening of
August 1, 1942 two rivaling gangs had a violent confrontation between one another. This led to future
events which would result in the murder of Jose Diaz. The Los Angeles Police department held 600
youths in custody as well as charged 2 people for the murder of Diaz. The court held 22 people
responsible for the death of Diaz despite lack of evidence and ... Show more content on

Around 600 Mexican Americans who fit the term zoot suiters ( a person who wears ballooned pants
and long coats) were rounded up in efforts to catch the criminal. The court argued that their look alone
was enough to prove they were deliquents in one way or another and should be held responsible for
their actions. Altough appearances do distinguish gang members from regular civilians the mass
gathering of around 600 Mexicans for one individuals murder shows the lack of professional
expirence. It also serves as a pedestal to say that these police offers weren t looking for an individual
based on factual evidence but based their prejudice beliefs tried to round up and get place a large
group of Mexicans in the court of law under biased pretences. It is an injustice to hold so many people
accountable for a crime based on their looks let alone get so many people of one ethnic group
involved just because they look like they are from a gang. On January 12, 1943 in the case of People
v. Zamora, presided by Judge Charles Fricke, the court found this to be enough evidence to sentence
seventeen of the accused to life in prison to a year in the county jail. Five were found innocent. Henry

Regardless whether the other team members is essential for team effectiveness. Evaluating the
strengths of teammates, while minimizing their weaknesses, promotes team cohesion (McComb et el,
2008). Collaborating as a team whether it required trust, a lot more benefit and more.
At a minimum, there are five keys to a productive team: positive interdependent, individual
accountability, promotive interaction, appropriate usage of social skills and group processing
(Kozlowski Ilgen, 2006).
Positive interdependence is achieved when members of the team rely on each other to complete the
task. They realize that their individual success is inherently tied with that of their other team members
and with the winner of the team as a whole. Group members focus on two objectives to achieve
positive interdependence: maximizing their own productivity and working to maximize the
productivity of all other group members (Javith,2013).
Individual accountability means that each team member is held responsible for his or her contri bution
to the completion of the project. Team members do not slack off and allow other team members to

Mark Twain is noted to be part of the realism movement in literature. Twain typically depicts his
literature to resemble everyday activities and experiences instead of the typical romanticized
presentation that included fairytales, and unrealistic events. Twain was very much aware of the two
traditions of American thought, realism, and romanticism (Erickson Huckleberry Finn| Realist vs.
romanticist 1960). Realism is a literary movement that came about in the middle of the 19th century.
This movement portrays real life circumstances with realistic characters and outcomes ( Realism
Characteristics 2008). Romanticism is an artistic, literary, musical and intellectual movement that ...

Twain makes sure that Tom and Huck differ so the strict separation of imagination and reality is
identified. Romantic engagement in a troubled world, can be very dangerous as seen in this novel.
When struggling with real world problems it is best to take a realistic approach, because when your
imagination take over, it can lead to an anticipation of an unrealistic outcome. Tom s imagination
demonstrate how he see life. His use of imagination helped him shape is own idea and understanding
Jim. They hain t no RIGHT to shut him up! Turn him loose! He ain t no slave; he s as free as any
cretur that walks this earth (AOHF, Ch.42). However, there are many instances were Tom Sawyer s
imagination had led to dangerous or risky situations throughout the novel. For example, in the novel
Tom Sawyer got shot in the leg, because of his unrealistic plan that he created based off a novel he had
previously read. Another example is that Tom has some pretty intense ideas about friendship, he like
the idea that you have to swear your loyalty to your friends in blood Now, we ll start this band of
robbers and call it Tom Sawyer s Gang. Everybody that wants to join has got to take an oath, and write

The Sacrifices In John Steinbeck s The Grapes Of Wrath
What would you do if you were put into a life or death situation? Or if your life s work was tarnished
in an instant? Many individuals react in a unique way depending on the scenario. Some make
sacrifices, some take the initiative of doing what others do not, but for the most part in the midst of
these hardships, many look to their resources in order to complete their task. Many do not even have
the resources to work off from. In most situations, one does what must be done in order to conquer
their obstacle in their own way. In A Peek Into the World of Migrant Youth, a video on the lives of
Mexican teens living in poverty by Janice Steinbeck, one teen said that they did not earn much money
for their crops. So, they have planned for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

for the lost money. Farming families had no choice but to sell all of their belongings. (p. 457) These
farmers had to sacrifice their own valuable equipment and property just so that they could buy
necessities. They had to sell their tools, their resources, to face their challenge. Captain Chesley Sully

serious engine failure. Captain Sullenberger had two options. He could either try to land on the
runway risking various buildings and civilians, or he could attempt to crash into the Hudson. He chose
the latter. On page 447 the author says that Sully landed the plane safely in the water, despite being
advised by air traffic control to land on the nearby runway. This shows that even in difficult situations

In the article UBC faces new rights complaint over handling of sex assault report by the Globe and

the University of British Columbia. When filing a complaint to B.C. s Human Rights Tribunal against
the alleged attacker, they took little action in resolving the case, which in turn took Hale s health and
education for the worst. Hale believes there to be a better method in responding to reports like these

This carelessness can cause a great deal of harm to students and it is because of this lack of support
that there are already instances where people have already been caused distress. There is bias present
in the article that supports Stephanie Hale s case which can be seen by how the information is relayed.
It focuses primarily on how Hale was negatively impacted by the events, reaching out to the reader s
sympathy, as well as UBC s lack of care. There were no quotations taken directly from the university
to provide their own explanation, merely information stated mostly by the victim. Hale s poor health
and education was repeated to display the inadequacy of her experience and the article included the
possibility of discrimination against her without verifying with the school. While the Globe and Mail

Persuasive Essay On The Sidewalks By Jane Jacobs
When reading this article, the use of sidewalks by Jane Jacobs it really makes me wonder what people
think sidewalks are for. If you think about the use of sidewalks without them people wouldn t be able
to enjoy the fine things in life everything is in its place for a reason and some may say sidewalks are
for walking, or they don t sere a purpose. In the article it states that Streets in cities serve many
purposes besides carrying vehicles, and city sidewalks the pedestrian parts of the streets serve many
purposes besides carrying pedestrians. This means that sidewalks complete a city and makes it safe or
unsafe to walk on or travel through. The author does explain this in first person and she does have a
strong opinion about sidewalks and she says that circulation is the main purpose of sidewalks, it s a
way for people to transport to different places on foot. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Manuel Ramos, By Manuel Ramos
Similarly to William Johnson, Manuel Ramos takes this photograph to visually reflect a lesser class in
Mexico city though use of location and amount of people. Prisons have a negative connotation in
people s minds because of why and who is sent there. Our society views prison as a place where bad
people who did bad things are forced to go. Thus, we view the people who are in prison or around the
prison as bad people, which causes us to view them as inferiors, instead of equals. Since Ramos took
the photo of large amount of people outside a prison, we unconsciously transfer that negative
connotation onto the people in the photograph. Furthermore, the majority is dressed in dark clothing.
This is significant because just like how we relate prisons to bad things, we associate dark clothing to
bad things as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So by Ramos capturing such a large crowd of people in darker colors outside of a prison, he s able to
project the ideals of wrongness and immorality onto the crowd. In addition to the dark clothing and
location where the photo was captured, all the people are facing the wall. This alludes to the
possibility of the people waiting for someone or something. Since the photo was taken during the
Mexican Revolution, this holds a lot of symbolic meaning in terms of change for the country. With
everyone in the photo facing the wall of oppression directly shows the acknowledgment of that
oppression (the colonizer) and the need for

The Psychology Of Eric Reynolds Essay
Eric Reynolds is a fifty six year old African American Vietnam veteran and plumber. He is presenting
symptoms of recurring negative intrusive memories of traumatic moments in combat; avoidance of
triggering factors, such as crowds, sudden movement, and unprovoked or unexpected touching;
negative thoughts and emotions, primarily involuntary aggression and self imposed isolation;
heightened arousal when triggered; insomnia as a result of recurring nightmares; hypervigilance; and
pressured speech when discussing traumatic content but otherwise remained articulate. These
symptom s onset occurred over thirty years prior to his current examination, after Mr. Reynolds left
combat and entered non combat operations within Vietnam. The symptoms persisted after
reintroduction to civilian life and remained chronic. Mr. Reynolds described direct exposure to trauma
by experiencing recurrent threats of death, injury, witnessing the death and injury of close compatriots.
Prior to expressing symptoms or exposure to the traumatic events, Mr. Reynolds described himself as
a happy go lucky, upbeat, and enjoyed activities such as boot camp. He did not discuss or display pre
existing disorders or history of maltreatment or trauma prior to deployment. There was no discussion
or mention of biological or inherited traits relating to trauma, anxiety, or aggression. Socioculturally

Alcohol Dehydrogenase
Proteins are the main building blocks that cells are assembled from and they make up most of the cell
s dry mass. They contain important elements such as oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and amino
acids. Proteins also help provide the cell with shape and structure. There are some proteins, which are
embedded in the plasma membrane, and they form channels and pumps. These channels and pumps
control the passage of nutrients and small molecules in and out of the cell. In addition, some proteins
send important messages to other cells or are signal indicators. The proteins that are embedded in the

The protein Alcohol Dehydrogenase can be found in our stomach and in our liver. In addition, it can
assist in generation of aldehydes and ketones. According to the article, How Alcohol is Metabolized in
the Human Body,
Alcohol dehydrogenase is the workhorse of the alcohol enzymes. it breaks down the majority of the
alcohol that enters the human body. Alcohol dehydrogenase is actually the name for a family of
enzymes which break down alcohol each of which has a slightly different molecular structure.
Researchers have identified as many as 10 varieties of the alcohol dehydrogenase molecule.
All of them bring about the same chemical reaction the difference is that some varieties of alcohol
dehydrogenase work more efficiently than others. As we shall see below, these variations in the
alcohol dehydrogenase molecule can explain why some individuals react differently to alcohol than
others.
Based off this quote, alcohol dehydrogenase is an enzyme. An enzyme is a protein that catalyzes
chemical reactions. In addition, alcohol dehydrogenase often referred to as AdhD, can be found in all
organisms. Adhd can be used in food, pharmaceutical, and fine chemical industries for the productions
of aldehydes, ketones, and chiral alcohols. (Machielsen et al., 2006). Alcohol dehydrogenase is made
up of 3 main components, Zinc, Ethanol, and NAD. According to the article, Alcohol Dehydrogenase,

An appropriate project delivery method can enhance the probability of meeting project goals and
objectives, significantly increasing its efficiency (Touran, et al. 2011) (Luu, Ng and Chen 2005)
(Rwelamila and Meyer 1999). Gordon (Gordon 1994) states that the selection of more efficient
contracting methods could reduce project cost by an average of 5%. In a survey by The Charted
Institute of Building (CIOB), a whooping majority of 87% believe that proper selection of project

The owner agencies shall need to recognize that in providing flexibility to contractors through some of
the new approaches, they are sacrificing some control. Traditional Method The traditional project
delivery method employed for highway construction has been DBB (Design Bid Built) delivery. In
Design Bid Build delivery method, the design and construction occur in sequence with solicitation
steps for each (The Construction Management Association of America, 2012). Under this traditional
approach, the design documents are first completed and the construction contract is awarded to a
qualified bidder with the lowest price. The design and contractor selection is thus simplified. Here, the
design and engineering firms are contracted separately. After the designs and specifications are
completed, bid solicitation for construction follows. As with detailed designs available, firm costs can
usually be established. Payment for construction is also done item wise as generally, unit price for
each item is established. The specifications here are largely method based and the role of the owner
agency is mostly that of inspection and administration. In general the benefits of Design bid Build
delivery system are:  Competitive bidding due to large number of bidders  Simple process 
Reduced potential for corruption  Risks and rewards

Brand Elements
The brand elements that would be most useful for differentiating the product of Tyson Foods from
their competition are memorable, meaningful and transferable brand elements. Utilizing the brand
elements of memorable and meaningful will build the brand of Tyson Foods. This brand element will
convey a uniform quality, credibility and experience of Tyson Foods (Goodson, 2012). This will add
value to the company because Tyson Foods is well known and they are more than just a product and
name in the poultry industry. The brand element transferable will help leverage and preserve brand
equality against challenges from Tyson Food competitors (Kotler Keller, 2012). The brand element
transferable is a defensive brand element choice criteria. Appropriating the transferable brand element
will employ a defensive role in the brand elements. This should maintain the equity of the brand and

Hamlet Loyalty Analysis
To be Loyal or not to be Loyal To be or not to be (127) is deciphered in Hamlet as whether or not
Hamlet wants to live or die, but adding (a) simple word(s) in the quote can change its meaning. To be
loyal or not to be loyal. Loyalty comes out of love; if you love someone you ll put them before others.
Being loyal,( no comma?) is staying with someone through all the hardships and trials they face.
Hamlet was very loyal to his father. He loved his father, and when his father died Hamlet was
miserable. Until the day, when his father s ghost appeared and revealed to Hamlet that his father s
death was caused by the most unnatural murder (57). His loyalty towards his father caused him to seek
revenge because he adored his father dearly. Even though people showed fondness towards King
Hamlet, there were some who lusted for what he had. King Hamlet had everything he ever needed, but
that didn t go over well with his vile brother, Claudius, who wanted King Hamlet s fortune, crown,
and wife. Claudius is a prime example of lacking loyalty. Claudius pleasure and jealousy caused him
to murder his brother. Family should be loyal to each other; Claudius was I m not saying that you can t
argue with them, but you should never betray them. Not only did Claudius display lack of loyalty but
Hamlet did as well. Hamlet didn t believe that he should show loyalty towards the villain who
murdered his beloved father. Hamlet wouldn t listen to Claudius when he told Hamlet to remain in
Denmark instead of going back to Wittenberg. Hamlet wasn t loyal to the king but that doesn t mean
he wasn t loyal to the queen. He loved his mother but he didn t know why she had to marry so quickly
after his father s death or why she married his uncle, but through those hard times he still loved and
obeyed her. When he saw the emotional distressed woman begging him to Let not thy mother lose her
prayers, Hamlet: I pray thee, stay with us; go not to Wittenberg (29). Hamlet had every reason to go
back to Wittenberg his father was gone, his mischievous uncle was now married to his mother, and no
one understood the grief he was going through. Even though it was difficult, he remained in Denmark
because he was loyal to his mother. His mother

Berry Strauss s The Trojan War a New History Book Review
Barry Strauss, professor of classics at Cornell University attempts to redefine a one of history s
biggest love affairs, the Trojan War. Strauss explains how certain events and characters from Homers
The Odyssey might have actually existed, but also uses modern discoveries from the Bronze Age to
compare Homers account to those of Egypt, the Middle East, and etc. While Homer s epic should not
be read as a historical document which recounts the Trojan War hundred percent accurately, it can still
be seen as document which embodies some historical truth. The novel as a whole explains the
customs, economic standing, fighting styles and beliefs of the Greeks. Strauss s writing style allows
for the book to be accessible to both students and historians. He argues that just like Franz Ferdinand
was the spark which ignited World War 1, Helen on the other hand was just a spark which escalated an
existing tension between the Greeks and Trojans. Strauss s personal input on the war itself gives the
novel a different outlook on the Trojan War because, it allows for readers to see beyond the facts and
make connections with ideas that Strauss had made with recent discoveries and Homers epic. Strauss
sectionalizes the book in 11 chapters, excluding the introduction and conclusion, and in each chapter
he covers a different aspect of the

My Philosophy Of My Personal Philosophy In The Classroom
All students are unique individuals, who have their own way of learning. Some students, might find it
easier to learn from hands on work rather than reading materials. Others, may be capable of learning
with just reading content. Since every student learns differently, I believe there isn t just one
philosophical way of how students should be taught. I would incorporate a couple different
philosophies and teaching mechanisms into my classroom. I also believe that the environment a child
is in impacts the way they learn. Students should have a set of rules to follow, but also be able to
express what they think and feel just as well. My personal philosophy is that there are numerous ways
to teach children the materials they need to know. Pragmatism is one philosophical theory I will

certain things. In a workplace you have a schedule to follow. I believe implementing certain rules
early in life gives the opportunity for success and good work ethic. Number two will be to complete

Critical Analysis Of The Rocking Horse Winner
(A Critique of Rocking Horse Winner...) The author s work is known for its explorations of human
nature and illustrates the nature of materialism (Jones). Throughout life, we are constantly developing
who we are as people. As we grow, we grasp hold of things we wish to portray ourselves with. In
doing so, we create ourselves as humans. In this philosophy that has been developed, we base how we
are raised in order to develop who we become in the long run. Over time, we receive knowledge
pertaining to who we wish to become. In the story story The Rocking Horse Winner written by D. H.
Lawrence, we are taken to a questionable development of humans in an equally disturbing adventure.
In this short story, there are many messages that can be traced throughout. In The Rocking Horse
Winner by D. H. Lawrence, an immense amount of attention is poured towards the focus of money.
Today, who someone is depends drastically upon the amount of money they have. Sadly, money
determines who you are before you even realize it. The same idea is developed into this story. An
essay says, While his father is a hard worker, he does not bring in enough money to satisfy the
expensive tastes of the latter s wife. Because of this, Paul s mother resents her husband and makes it
clear that she wants more monetary benefits out of life (Pierce). Although she may not realize it, Paul
s mother is beginning to demand so much of her husband that it not only wears out her husband, but
continually rubs off onto Paul. Paul becomes so bothered by the thought that his family has little to
none money, and his only desire is to change that feeling for his family. He begins to realize that he
wants nothing but money for his family so they can experience life in such a way that they are able to
enjoy what they have and obtain more. As Paul is growing up amid such an issue, he begins to realize
that no matter what he is doing, he is constantly being reminded that his family is destitute. He was
looking so extraordinarily foolish for no other reason but that he heard the secret whisper all over the
house: There must be more money (Page 1248). Given the circumstances, everything that Paul did

unsuccessful pursuit in finding the man within, the film conveys a strong sense of how fear and self
doubt can lead to the ultimate downfall in a person. Over zealous, and a tendency to meddle, Mr. and
Mrs. Braddock are aimlessly suffocating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see the same act of unconfident behavior again when Benjamin is reserving a hotel room for the
two of them. Undoubtedly paranoid, Ben manufactures an extravagant lie to hide his personal
misconduct after the bell hop, referring to business matters, asks if [he] is here for an affair. However,
after many awkward instances and Mrs. Robinson s continued gratuitous behavior, Ben foolishly leaps
into the affair. After countless secret meets Ben begins to realize that the relationship is cold and
emotionally empty, counter the initial promising thoughts of being with an older woman. This due to
Mrs. Robinson s abilities to belittle Ben and get what she wants, regardless his opinions. Yet because
the fling had no positive affect to his self confidence, when Ben try s to obtain more from the affair he
finds himself in awkward and uncomfortable conversations that Mrs. Robinson has no interest in
discussing with him. In one case Ben catch s himself in a discussion about the imperfect fabricated
marriage she has with her husband, and how she only married him because she became pregnant with
their only daughter, Elaine. Although The Braddock s feel that what they are doing to there son is
perfectly fine, they fail to see the damage they are causing. Sheltering Ben did not save him from the
outside, it only created more problems that made him fearful, putting him in a state of confusion now
that he is expected to live in the real

How Has Palestinian Application for Un Membership and...
Abstract
The purpose of the research How has Palestinian application for UN membership and statehood
recognition affected the advancement of the peace process between Israel and Palestine? was to
provide a thorough examination of the Arab Israeli conflict and estimate the possible courses of its
development in case of UN interference into the matter.
The method used in the process of investigation consisted in accessing English and Israeli websites,
including the official website of the Parliament of Israel, in order to collect the necessary information
on the issue. A vast amount of opinions was gathered and applied in the research, that helped to create
the holistic picture of the problem under consideration.
As a result of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The aggravating conflict underwent several basic stages: * 1948 Arab Israeli War (the first war) *
1956 the Suez Crisis (the second war) * 1967, 1973 (the third and the forth wars) * 1978 1979 Camp
David peace process * 1982 Lebanon War (the fifth war) * 1993 2000 Oslo peace process * 2000 2005
The Second Intifada (the sixth war)
Despite the long history of confrontation the main points of controversy remained unchanged. They
are: * the status of Jerusalem * Palestinian refugees * the Israeli settlements * the borders
Each period of the conflict was characterized by either escalation or reduction of tension, but since it s
not the main concern of this research, we will only consider some of the agreements signed by the
opposing sides, in order to show what attempts had been made to resolve the conflict before Palestine
turned to the UN for assistance.
Subheading 1: The attempts to negotiate peace between Israel and Palestine.
One of the main attempts to resolve the conflict was the Oslo Agreement that was signed in September
1993 in Washington and was supposed to settle the arguments between the two countries. For Israel,
that always considered PLO to be a terrorist organization and refused any diplomatic contacts with it,
it was a tough political decision. According to the agreement the PLO had to stop any terroristic action

Limit Foreign Control of Key Industries
Should countries limit foreign control of key industries?
Companies want to make direct investment because in that way they can control parts of the
companies. Even though companies want to do that, there are governments who protect domestic
companies, mostly for the reason to protect the majority of the society. Companies are willing to take
over control keys in industries for 3 different reasons:
Freedom to pursue global objectives
This is of use when a company owns the whole foreign company; they can start treating the world as
one market. For example Unilever with CIF and JIF, at the beginning you had in the Netherlands the
product JIF (kitchen cleaner) when that worked really well. Unilever started to introduce it in other ...

For example, domestic companies can be harmed if the mother company goes bankrupt even though
the old domestic company is still making profit.
Governments are sometimes establishing laws to prevent FDI in their key industries. This leads to the
increase of tension between two countries, which often have to do with political issues. For example,
the Vodafone Company wants to invest in the Chinese market by direct investment, in this case the
telecommunication business. The Chinese government cancelled the deal because they don t want to
give foreign countries ownership of the telecom market. Which is logic if you compare the issues we
have here with our providers, if the governments or the EU didn t interfere we would pay a lot of
money per phone call.
Governments have two main reasons to limit foreign direct investment. First there is the balance of
payment; this accounting system takes account of all the outflow payment and inflow payments to
organizations in a certain country. By intervening the country can hold control over the balance,
because foreign direct investment is mentioned on the balance of payment. Also by limiting the direct
investment the local company its production will increase and thereby the import numbers on the
balance decline. This has a positive effect on the economy because now the local companies will start
exporting when the domestic

The High Cost Of Samsung s Competition In The Electronics...
After a little over a decade since its establishment, Samsung, who was once a small business focusing
on exporting perishables is now one of the biggest manufacturing company in the world that revenue
of over $167 Billion. From an economic perspective, as technology changes becoming more efficient,
it gives other companies the ability to compete in manufacturing the products. As the electronics
industry continues to grow, more companies are competing with Apple. As of today, Samsung is one
of the largest competitors to Apple. Both companies are trying to win the technology market,
especially smartphones since they launched their own line of smartphones Samsung Galaxy in June
2009 and the iPhone in June 2007.
One of the reasons Samsung s still in this game of tug of war with Apple is Samsung s capability in
manufacturing their own components for the Galaxy smartphones. This gives them a rather strong
grasp on cost advantage compared to Apple. Even Apple uses a Samsung manufactured processors,
NAND flash and DRAM memory chips since the beginning (Forbes, 2016), which is why we see a
rather higher selling price for Apple s iPhone due to their cost to their supplier, Samsung. One way for
Apple to win over this is to attract Samsung loyal customers, who are said to be more price conscious,
by creating an inexpensive iPhone in a long run like the iPhone 5c that was discontinued at the end of
2015.
However, even if Samsung had this cost advantage over Apple, Apple is still

Review Of Motion, An Electronic And Computer Consulting...
Engineering students Mike Lazaridis, from the University of Waterloo, and Douglas Fregin, from the
University of Windsor founded a company called Research In Motion, an electronic and computer
consulting company in 1984. For a long time, they were not sure about what to specialize in. Then
came the invent of a secure, easy and effective way to send and receive electronic mails. They called
this the BlackBerry . People were now able to send and receive emails even outside their office. The
software soon became the go to of every business official, government executive and celebrities. RIM
grew in size and market capture and were soon one of the most valuable tech companies in the world.
Research In Motion s BlackBerry, once a giant in the smartphone industry, were always ahead of time
in their supply chain management system. Although they aren t where they were predicted to be in
terms of market position, their initial rise to the number one position in the smartphone industry was
partly due to their efficient system of supply chain. Unfortunately, just like their rise being a result of
good supply chain, their fall from the position can be accredited to improper use of resources and a
failure of the supply chain to keep up with the latest trends.
In the early 2000s, RIM were amongst the first mobile manufacturers who started the transition from
feature phones to smartphones. Soon to follow were Apple, Nokia and HTC. BlackBerry s idea of a
smartphone laid the platform for

The Baroque Era
The eighteenth century was a very creative time in world history. It gave birth to art that expresses
feelings. This art was in the form of music paintings and is even seen in Architecture. The name
baroque was borrowed from art history and actually came from a jeweler term meaning odd pearl or
irregular pearl. Europe rulers sponsored the arts until France rose to new heights in the seventeenth
century (Joseph Kerman) this is in contrast to merchant princes of the renaissance who were the first
supporters. Style characteristics of the Baroque era are distinctive Rhythms usually against a steady
beat. Dynamics usually remained at the same level through the whole piece though there were
expressive changes to bring out rhythmic accents. The Tone and color of the Baroque era derive from
instruments such as the flute, harpsichord, organ, violin and the obo. Keyboards instrument were

would strive to accomplish which is improvising extras. Volume was a good tool to do this.
The Texture of the music of this period was polyphonic Three were traits of independent melody from
the basses. The pieces were filled with contrapuntal lines that seemed to almost compete for the
attention of the listener like a battle for center stage. It brings to mind the battle of the fiddles in the

others like two children competing for their mother s attention. It seems as though each instrument

Essay on Mateship in Australian Films
Mateship in Australian Films
Mateship has long been a major aspect of the national image as projected by Australian films, yet the
moralities of mateship and the image of men as mates did not go unchallenged. Australian cinema as a
significant part of the whole industry of image makers in the country, the way it portrays mateship, the
single most important mythic element in the cultural identity of Australia, is worth analysing.
This paper first reviews the historical background of mateship in Australia and its contemporary
development. The review here serves as a general discussion of mateship that provides the potential

Other dictionaries also have their definitions of the two terms.
Mate is Companion, fellow worker, form of address among equals, especially sailors and labourers. 2.
One of a pair, especially of birds; fitting partner in marriage etc (Concise Oxford Dictionary).
Mateship is The quality or state of being a mate. 2. A code of conduct among men stressing equality
and friendship (The Macquarie Dictionary).
In his sociology paper, Professor Robert Bell (1973, p1) defines mateship as the sex segregated
involvement of men and it implies both physical and intellectual exclusion of women. Miriam Dixson
(1976, cited by Ken Inglis, 1998, p417), from another point of view, defines mateship as including
sublimation of homosexuality.
The definitions of mateship and mate cited here are by no means comprehensive and exhaustive.
Nevertheless, from the variety of them, it is evident that mateship in Australia is conceived

Capitalism And Capitalism In Society
The value of money continues to decrease, but the need for this little yet powerful piece of paper
continues to skyrocket. Many people believe money magically illuminates complications and solves
problems. America has been a capitalist state for decades, so money may be considered fundamental
to our survival as Americans. This may be the case for many, but I disagree. I believe capitalism is the
base for social, political and economic inequality and the idea of capitalism deceives us into thinking
we as Americans cannot function without money. Capitalism creates complications and conceive
problems. In capitalism, many private owners control the means of production, causing the
government not to regulate their businesses. Thus, allowing exploitation to occur. The U.S will
continue to collapse as long as we are a capitalist society. This system forces us to be greedy and greed
forces us to be selfish individuals. Once an individual is selfish they will continue to make decisions
that have a negative impact on the lives of many. The upper class owns the means of production. They
control and support some of the most prestigious institutions such as; prep schools, factories, social
clubs and policy formation organization. Their wealth has been in the family for many generations
(old money) and will take several lifetimes to spend. The upper class are the people at the top of the
social ladder with great wealth and assets. They possess endless resources, causing them to remain

Sharecropping In 1860
In 1860 there were only 15 slave quarters compared to the 26 homes of former slaves in 1881. I

the same size. In 1881, all former slave homes look the same size except for Gus Barrow s home
which looks slightly smaller. The Master s house, service and farm buildings, and gin house is all
located along the road in 1860. In 1881, the school house, church, five of the former slave homes, and
the Master s home is all located along the road. I believe that the former slave master was not pleased
about the new system of sharecropping since it allowed the ex slaves to settle farther from the main
house (his house). In 1860, the slave master used

  • 2. The Pros And Cons Of Fluoridation Of Water It s in our water, our toothpaste, our mouthwash, and even our food. This may sound like the opening sentence to some zombie virus horror flick, but this is a reality. The element fluorine is added to many consumer products, such as mouthwash, toothpaste, and municipal water. The fluoridation of these products began in 1945, when the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan, became the first city to fluoridate its water supply and had been ever present since. Some advantages of this process are fluorine aids in preventing tooth carrie, or decay. Some disadvantages are fluorosis, a change in enamel opacity. Some claim that Fluoride can cause mental disabilities in children, but claims and studies such as these are often discredited. Water fluoridation is a very widespread topic which comes with its own advantages, disadvantages, and a unique history. Fluoridation of water began in the United States and Canada during 1945 and 1946, with Grand Rapids, Michigan being the first city ever to use fluoridated water. The 1940 s and 1950 s began the crusade for fluoridated water, after research done by the U.S. Public Health Service explored the effects of fluorine and the recommended dosages. During this time, producers began to insert fluoride into many products, such as toothpaste, mouthwash, or processed beverages. Much of the research suggesting the percentages of fluoride in these products was conducted before the 1980 s, so many different modes and suggestions have evolved. ... The trial focused on the murder of twenty two year old Jose Diaz who had been beaten and stabbed near a reservoir known as Sleepy Lagoon. Sleepy Lagoon had always been a place that comminity and gang members frequently visited located in East Los Angeles. On the evening of August 1, 1942 two rivaling gangs had a violent confrontation between one another. This led to future events which would result in the murder of Jose Diaz. The Los Angeles Police department held 600 youths in custody as well as charged 2 people for the murder of Diaz. Around 600 Mexican Americans who fit the term zoot suiters ( a person who wears ballooned pants and long coats) were rounded up in efforts to catch the criminal. The court argued that their look alone was enough to prove they were deliquents in one way or another and should be held responsible for their actions. Altough appearances do distinguish gang members from regular civilians the mass gathering of around 600 Mexicans for one individuals murder shows the lack of professional expirence. It also serves as a pedestal to say that these police offers weren t looking for an individual based on factual evidence but based their prejudice beliefs tried to round up and get place a large group of Mexicans in the court of law under biased pretences. It is an injustice to hold so many people accountable for a crime based on their looks let alone get so many people of one ethnic group involved just because they look like they are from a gang. On January 12, 1943 in the case of People v. Zamora, presided by Judge Charles Fricke, the court found this to be enough evidence to sentence seventeen of the accused to life in prison to a year in the county jail. Five were found innocent. Evaluating the strengths of teammates, while minimizing their weaknesses, promotes team cohesion (McComb et el, 2008). Collaborating as a team whether it required trust, a lot more benefit and more. At a minimum, there are five keys to a productive team: positive interdependent, individual accountability, promotive interaction, appropriate usage of social skills and group processing (Kozlowski Ilgen, 2006). Positive interdependence is achieved when members of the team rely on each other to complete the task. They realize that their individual success is inherently tied with that of their other team members and with the winner of the team as a whole. Group members focus on two objectives to achieve positive interdependence: maximizing their own productivity and working to maximize the productivity of all other group members (Javith,2013). Individual accountability means that each team member is held responsible for his or her contri bution to the completion of the project. • 5. Huckleberry Finn Research Paper Tamara Morris ENGL 2200 June 16, 2018 FINAL TOPIC: #3 Mark Twain is noted to be part of the realism movement in literature. Twain typically depicts his literature to resemble everyday activities and experiences instead of the typical romanticized presentation that included fairytales, and unrealistic events. Twain was very much aware of the two traditions of American thought, realism, and romanticism (Erickson Huckleberry Finn| Realist vs. romanticist 1960). Realism is a literary movement that came about in the middle of the 19th century. This movement portrays real life circumstances with realistic characters and outcomes ( Realism Characteristics 2008). Romanticism is an artistic, literary, musical and intellectual movement that ... Many individuals react in a unique way depending on the scenario. Some make sacrifices, some take the initiative of doing what others do not, but for the most part in the midst of these hardships, many look to their resources in order to complete their task. Many do not even have the resources to work off from. In most situations, one does what must be done in order to conquer their obstacle in their own way. Merely 5 minutes into the flight a flock of Canadian Geese flew into both turbines causing serious engine failure. Captain Sullenberger had two options. He could either try to land on the runway risking various buildings and civilians, or he could attempt to crash into the Hudson. He chose the latter. When filing a complaint to B.C. s Human Rights Tribunal against the alleged attacker, they took little action in resolving the case, which in turn took Hale s health and education for the worst. Hale believes there to be a better method in responding to reports like these and has continued to try persuade to the university to change its policies through the aid of lawyers and having trials, but to no avail. There is bias present in the article that supports Stephanie Hale s case which can be seen by how the information is relayed. There were no quotations taken directly from the university to provide their own explanation, merely information stated mostly by the victim. • 9. Manuel Ramos, By Manuel Ramos Similarly to William Johnson, Manuel Ramos takes this photograph to visually reflect a lesser class in Mexico city though use of location and amount of people. Prisons have a negative connotation in people s minds because of why and who is sent there. Our society views prison as a place where bad people who did bad things are forced to go. Thus, we view the people who are in prison or around the prison as bad people, which causes us to view them as inferiors, instead of equals. Since Ramos took the photo of large amount of people outside a prison, we unconsciously transfer that negative connotation onto the people in the photograph. Furthermore, the majority is dressed in dark clothing. This is significant because just like how we relate prisons to bad things, we associate dark clothing to bad things as well. ... He is presenting symptoms of recurring negative intrusive memories of traumatic moments in combat; avoidance of triggering factors, such as crowds, sudden movement, and unprovoked or unexpected touching; negative thoughts and emotions, primarily involuntary aggression and self imposed isolation; heightened arousal when triggered; insomnia as a result of recurring nightmares; hypervigilance; and pressured speech when discussing traumatic content but otherwise remained articulate. These symptom s onset occurred over thirty years prior to his current examination, after Mr. Reynolds left combat and entered non combat operations within Vietnam. The symptoms persisted after reintroduction to civilian life and remained chronic. Mr. Reynolds described direct exposure to trauma by experiencing recurrent threats of death, injury, witnessing the death and injury of close compatriots. Prior to expressing symptoms or exposure to the traumatic events, Mr. Reynolds described himself as a happy go lucky, upbeat, and enjoyed activities such as boot camp. He did not discuss or display pre existing disorders or history of maltreatment or trauma prior to deployment. Traditional Method The traditional project delivery method employed for highway construction has been DBB (Design Bid Built) delivery. Under this traditional approach, the design documents are first completed and the construction contract is awarded to a qualified bidder with the lowest price. The design and contractor selection is thus simplified. Here, the design and engineering firms are contracted separately. After the designs and specifications are completed, bid solicitation for construction follows. As with detailed designs available, firm costs can usually be established. Payment for construction is also done item wise as generally, unit price for each item is established. The specifications here are largely method based and the role of the owner agency is mostly that of inspection and administration. • 15. Hamlet Loyalty Analysis To be Loyal or not to be Loyal To be or not to be (127) is deciphered in Hamlet as whether or not Hamlet wants to live or die, but adding (a) simple word(s) in the quote can change its meaning. To be loyal or not to be loyal. Loyalty comes out of love; if you love someone you ll put them before others. Being loyal,( no comma?) is staying with someone through all the hardships and trials they face. Hamlet was very loyal to his father. He loved his father, and when his father died Hamlet was miserable. Until the day, when his father s ghost appeared and revealed to Hamlet that his father s death was caused by the most unnatural murder (57). His loyalty towards his father caused him to seek revenge because he adored his father dearly. Even though people showed fondness towards King Hamlet, there were some who lusted for what he had. King Hamlet had everything he ever needed, but that didn t go over well with his vile brother, Claudius, who wanted King Hamlet s fortune, crown, and wife. Claudius is a prime example of lacking loyalty. Claudius pleasure and jealousy caused him to murder his brother. Family should be loyal to each other; Claudius was I m not saying that you can t argue with them, but you should never betray them. Not only did Claudius display lack of loyalty but Hamlet did as well. Hamlet didn t believe that he should show loyalty towards the villain who murdered his beloved father. Hamlet wouldn t listen to Claudius when he told Hamlet to remain in Denmark instead of going back to Wittenberg. Hamlet wasn t loyal to the king but that doesn t mean he wasn t loyal to the queen. He loved his mother but he didn t know why she had to marry so quickly after his father s death or why she married his uncle, but through those hard times he still loved and obeyed her. When he saw the emotional distressed woman begging him to Let not thy mother lose her prayers, Hamlet: I pray thee, stay with us; go not to Wittenberg (29). Hamlet had every reason to go back to Wittenberg his father was gone, his mischievous uncle was now married to his mother, and no one understood the grief he was going through. • 16. Analysis Of The Book The Trojan War A New History Adrian Olivas September 8, 2015 Classics 40 Mr. Smith 4:00 Berry Strauss s The Trojan War a New History Book Review Barry Strauss, professor of classics at Cornell University attempts to redefine a one of history s biggest love affairs, the Trojan War. Strauss explains how certain events and characters from Homers The Odyssey might have actually existed, but also uses modern discoveries from the Bronze Age to compare Homers account to those of Egypt, the Middle East, and etc. While Homer s epic should not be read as a historical document which recounts the Trojan War hundred percent accurately, it can still be seen as document which embodies some historical truth. The novel as a whole explains the customs, economic standing, fighting styles and beliefs of the Greeks. Strauss s writing style allows for the book to be accessible to both students and historians. He argues that just like Franz Ferdinand was the spark which ignited World War 1, Helen on the other hand was just a spark which escalated an existing tension between the Greeks and Trojans. Strauss s personal input on the war itself gives the novel a different outlook on the Trojan War because, it allows for readers to see beyond the facts and make connections with ideas that Strauss had made with recent discoveries and Homers epic. Strauss sectionalizes the book in 11 chapters, excluding the introduction and conclusion, and in each chapter he covers a different aspect of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Critical Analysis Of The Rocking Horse Winner (A Critique of Rocking Horse Winner...) The author s work is known for its explorations of human nature and illustrates the nature of materialism (Jones). Throughout life, we are constantly developing who we are as people. As we grow, we grasp hold of things we wish to portray ourselves with. In doing so, we create ourselves as humans. In this philosophy that has been developed, we base how we are raised in order to develop who we become in the long run. Over time, we receive knowledge pertaining to who we wish to become. In the story story The Rocking Horse Winner written by D. H. Lawrence, we are taken to a questionable development of humans in an equally disturbing adventure. In this short story, there are many messages that can be traced throughout. In The Rocking Horse Winner by D. H. Lawrence, an immense amount of attention is poured towards the focus of money. Today, who someone is depends drastically upon the amount of money they have. Sadly, money determines who you are before you even realize it. The same idea is developed into this story. An essay says, While his father is a hard worker, he does not bring in enough money to satisfy the expensive tastes of the latter s wife. Because of this, Paul s mother resents her husband and makes it clear that she wants more monetary benefits out of life (Pierce). Although she may not realize it, Paul s mother is beginning to demand so much of her husband that it not only wears out her husband, but continually rubs off onto Paul. Paul becomes so bothered by the thought that his family has little to none money, and his only desire is to change that feeling for his family. He begins to realize that he wants nothing but money for his family so they can experience life in such a way that they are able to enjoy what they have and obtain more. As Paul is growing up amid such an issue, he begins to realize that no matter what he is doing, he is constantly being reminded that his family is destitute. He was looking so extraordinarily foolish for no other reason but that he heard the secret whisper all over the house: There must be more money (Page 1248). Companies want to make direct investment because in that way they can control parts of the companies. Even though companies want to do that, there are governments who protect domestic companies, mostly for the reason to protect the majority of the society. Companies are willing to take over control keys in industries for 3 different reasons: Freedom to pursue global objectives This is of use when a company owns the whole foreign company; they can start treating the world as one market. Governments are sometimes establishing laws to prevent FDI in their key industries. This leads to the increase of tension between two countries, which often have to do with political issues. For example, the Vodafone Company wants to invest in the Chinese market by direct investment, in this case the telecommunication business. The Chinese government cancelled the deal because they don t want to give foreign countries ownership of the telecom market. Which is logic if you compare the issues we have here with our providers, if the governments or the EU didn t interfere we would pay a lot of money per phone call. Governments have two main reasons to limit foreign direct investment. First there is the balance of payment; this accounting system takes account of all the outflow payment and inflow payments to organizations in a certain country. By intervening the country can hold control over the balance, because foreign direct investment is mentioned on the balance of payment. Also by limiting the direct investment the local company its production will increase and thereby the import numbers on the balance decline.
