Reflection On My Second Lesson
My second lesson was centered around letter recognition and identification. I had a big sensory
bin filled with somewhat wet sand. In the bin, there were real seashells that the children had to dig
up, brush the sand off, identify the letter on it, and match it to the corresponding letter on the
paper. When it was time to talk about my center station, all of the children were very engaged. In
my opinion, it was probably due to the fact that it was my lessonor that there was a big bin of sand
in their classroom. Regardless, I tried my best to build off of their natural curiosity. When they
arrived at my station, I build engagement and interest by explaining that I hid a bunch a shells
that had a hidden letter on it. The children were all immediately ready to start digging through to
find all the letters. Then, I modeled for them how to use the materials and what to do with the
shells. They all started asking me if they could come to my center first. Based off of my last
lesson, I was prepared to have little to no time for an introduction as my cooperating teacher
typically just briefly shows what is at each center. Fortunately, I had enough time to do almost
everything in my lesson plan. The only thing I had to cut from my lesson plan was singing the
alphabetsong. I had to cut this because I had a very limited amount of time and wanted to make
sure the children stayed engaged and interested. Since they are three and four years old, I have

The effect of violence in the media is a big controversy; some say it affects are society and others
say that there is not any proof of this. There are many theories on how violence in media does,
and how it does not, affect our society. Many people claim watching television or even playing

evidence of change in aggressiveness in children or young adults while playing video games.
Researchers allowed children that had been diagnosed with disruptive behavior disorder and to
play violent video games and found no change in pattern when or even after these children
played. This study measured activity in the frontal cortex of the brain by using two groups of
five girls and fourteen boys while they made a task requiring focus. The frontal cortex has been
related to problems having to do with self control and attention. One of the groups was
considered aggressive and also diagnosed with disruptive behavior disorder and the second group
had no history of any behavioral problems. Half of the children in each group had been opened to
high levels of media violence; this included them watching and playing violent video games and
television. The results of the experiment showed that all of the aggressive children had reduced

Henry Hudson was a navigator and sea explorer in the 17 century, who was born in 1565 England

literary devices that convey the importance and power of peaceful protest such as allusion,
symbolism, and metaphors. These three literary devices help to illustrate the struggle, dedication,
and triumphs of those involved in peaceful protestof the civil rights movement.
Allusion is one of the main literary devices used to portray the theme that resistance engenders
eventual change. John Legend and Common alluded to other peaceful demonstrations that have
called attention to social issues, that have slowly been resolved due to resistance of unfair
treatment. The first example can be found in the lyric, That s why Rosa sat on the bus (line 17) is
referring to the resistance of blacks. Rosa Parks is one of the most renowned civil rights activist,
she refused to render her bus seat to a white male in 1955. During her resistance, she remained

words it is obvious the author intends for his point to be easily understood by his readers. Using a
convincing argument, the virtue of honesty is approached in an objective manner. Published by the
Hoover Institute, Damon s topic of honesty fits well into this publication because the institute
fosters development of freedom. Accordingly Damon s paper outlines the virtue of honesty as
necessary for civilized and democratic society.
By placing his counter argument at the beginning of the essay, he craftily refutes the argument and
provides his views. Using an inductive thesis at the end of his essay works well to explain Damon
s position as he appears to maintain a diplomatic view. The cause and effect rationale is convincing.
Words such as dishonesty, lying, and cheating are used interchangeably, while Damon writes about
dishonesty more than he writes on honesty. Using emotions and ethical dilemmas he details

Philosophy Of Rene Descartes
In modern philosophy, reality is viewed in a twofold manner: the immaterial mind on the one hand
and the extended body on the other. Also, we think of reality and divided between the I subject
and an external world of objects. This line of thinking is attributed to Rene Descartes, widely
credited as the father of modern philosophy. Descartes was a proponent of metaphysical dualism. He
believed that the mindand the body are distinct substances. To Descartes, we can reach certain
knowledge about the mind and consciousness through introspection. He reasons that we cannot
doubt our existence as thinking things because the fact that we think is undeniable. However, we
tend to be fooled by our sensory experience of the world around us, so it is possible to put the
world outside of our minds into doubt. To Descartes, philosophy is about attaining certain
knowledge. We look upon the world as knowing subjects. Descartes believed that we cannot
properly philosophize without first establishing certain principles to guide our investigation. We
must doubt everything that can be doubted, and only when we reach a position that cannot be
doubted can we begin our quest to understand reality. Since we begin with the thinking thing, the
Cogito, the mind has ontological precedence over the body. From Descartes onwards, the ultimate
