Irony In The Outsiders
There are many mind boggling books made throughout history, but a book written by S.E. Hinton, The
Outsiders, melted the hearts of many. . In this book, there is so much conflict between the greasers and
socs culminated in violence and physical confrontations. Greasers are the people who live on the east
side of Tulsa with less money than middle and higher class. Socs are the higher class that have parties
while getting drunk and still being highly respected, unlike the greasers who are looked down at by
almost everyone. These differences are only the beginning, and most of the hostility between the socs
and greasers based on acts of revenge. The acts of revenge throughout the book, The Outsiders,
reveals external conflict, internal conflict, and irony. Revenge is a huge ... Show more content on

At the beginning of the book The Outsiders, Ponyboy got jumped and the soc that was holding the
knife said to Pony, Need a haircut greaser? When the soc said this snide comment, he meant it in a
humourous way, but he also was giving the vibe that he was gonna cut Pony s hair or hurt him. It is
also ironic how Johnny is a kind of Christ like figure in The Outsiders, Dally is symbolizes Judas, and
the rest of the gang symbolizes the apostles. Johnny gives up his life to save others, like Jesus did.
Dally could not handle the death of Johnny, so he killed himself, like Judas. The gang, like the
apostles, kept on living and telling the story of their deceased loved ones. Dally felt like it was his
fault that Johnny died, like Judas who killed himself because he turned Jesus in. One more thing that
is ironic is that Johnny killed Bob as an act of revenge for almost killing Ponyboy. It was a bad action
to kill Bob, but their bad actions lead them to a holy place, the church. These are examples of how
irony is associated with revenge in The

Working While Attending High School
I think that it is inconvenient for adolescent to work while attending high school. Although the really
is that many adolescents are obtaining part time employment while in high school. According
Santrock (2014) It is estimated that 80 to 90 percent of adolescents are employed at some point during
high school (p.387). I do agree that there are some potentially positive influences. Some of the
advantageous that a working adolescent may experience are the development of autonomy, social
learning, and intergenerational harmony and contribute to the continuity between adolescence and
adulthood (Greenberger Steinberg, 1981. p.691). However, I believe that there are much more
disadvantages than advantageous. One of the disadvantages is that they may not have time for school,
family, and friends. An adolescent s first priority should be obtaining a higher education. When they
work they may place more emphasis on their employment instead of their education. Also, they may
become stressed out to fulfill their numerous commitments. They will have to effectively balance their
time to study and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are absent more and reported that they did not enjoy school as much. If an adolescent works long
hours it may affect them both physically and mentally (Larson, 2009, p.387). For instance, one reason
is they will have to balance their school obligations and work obligations. One research study found
that it was not just working, but the long hours that affected their grades (Greenberger Steinberg,
1986. p.691). This can cause a great deal of stress in their life. For instance, if an adolescent works at
McDonalds waiting on customers they may feel stress in ensuring that they meet the expected time
frames and to provide customers with a quick and accurate service. Exposure to job stress is related to
alcohol and marijuana use for both boys and girls (Greenberger Steinberg, 1986.

Kennedy Space Center Research Paper
Florida History
When I think Florida History, I think Kennedy Space Center.
I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of
landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth. No single space project...will be
more exciting, or more impressive to mankind, or more important...and none will be so difficult or
expensive to accomplish John F. Kennedy, May 25, 1961
We as a whole civilization have always wished about an afterlife with the goods or dreamed about
reaching or being sent to the sky or heavens. From ancient civilizations to the modern day world, our
wish of going into space has increased from studying the stars to actual discovery of exploration in
space. In forty years we have had so much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On July 20, 1969 America finally became first in the protracted space race with the Soviets. On that
day for America, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Buzz Aldrin of Apollo 11 became the first humans to step
foot on the moon. This of course was a massive victory alongside the Soviet Union. The first men to
land on the moon were launched from the site of KSC (Kennedy Space Center) in 1969, and every
human space flight launch in the United States since that time has taken place from the Kennedy
Space Center (Rogier). Apollo was the NASA program that resulted in American astronauts making an

Compare and Contrast Of Mice and Men Movie and Book Essay
Compare and Contrast Of Mice and Men Movie and Book The classic novel, Of Mice and Men,
written by John Steinbeck was made into a Hollywood Blockbuster in 1992. Directed and acted by
Gary Sinise and John Malkovich, Hollywood took a stab at trying to recreate this literary success. The
novel, which takes place in the 1930 s, follows the lives of two men, George and Lennie, as they try to
attain their dream of owning a farm. George is a smart man who always seems to have things figured
out. Lennie is massive, but has the mind of a young child. George looks after him, but it is not easy
since Lennie always seems to get himself in some kind of trouble. As they struggle towards their
dreams, George and Lennie face obstacles that test ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, in the book George is shown to really hate Curley, whereas in the movie, George doesn t
seem to like Curley too much but he definitely doesn t hate him. Apart from these characters, all the
others are pretty much very similar in both the book and the movie. As well as the movie having some
character differences, some of the scenes were either cut out or added. One of the major differences in
the movie is that Candy never comes into the room when Lennie and Crooks are talking to each other.
This is an important part in the novel because when Candy comes in, Crooks finds about their future
plan wants to get in on the deal. Except this scene is cut short in the movie and Candy never shows up
at Crooks house. Another important part that is changed in the movie is the ending. The movie never
shows Lennie have the illusions of his Aunt Carla and the rabbits lecturing him while he is waiting by
the pond. Also, is seems as though in the movie George doesn t hesitate to shoot Lennie, and it is all
over very quickly. Furthermore, the important scene when Slim tells George, You hadda, George
(107), never happens in the movie, but instead it ends with an image coming from within George s
imagination, a memory of the many happy times that he and Lennie had shared. There are also some
scenes that are added into the movie, but only because the novel is so short, they needed to add things

Mrs. Henderson s Classroom Observation
While observing Mrs. Henderson s classroom, I noticed that she used an approach that most teachers
don t. When I asked Mrs. Henderson why she chose this approach she told me that originally she was
supposed to teach 3rd and 4th grade math at the same time. When the plan changed from her doing 3rd
and 4th to just 3rd she decided to continue with her plan on using guided math. While doing guided
math, students are working on math problems they learned in the lesson before and working on
increasing on their basic knowledge of math facts.
Guided math is set up at stations. One station is where they work on a website of basic math skills
they should already know such as addition and subtraction. Another station is where they learn the
new lesson. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I did not like the cubby hangers because it seemed to be very messy and some students are not very
organized. Mrs. Henderson had two large tables on each side of the room and a smaller table in the
middle and a teaching area in the center of the room. Mrs. Henderson had her desk in the back corner.
She also had a carpeted area where her large variety of books were. She did not have a time out area
but I thought it was unique that she had a water fountain in her classroom. Her classroom did not seem
to have a theme like most over classrooms do. Mrs. Henderson dressed comfortable, however, it might
have been because she was sick for the days I observed. The classroom had a white board, an older
television in the corner, and a projector.
Observing Mrs. Henderson classroom gave me an idea of how I want my classroom to be set up in the
future and I learned how guided math worked. I enjoyed the idea of guided math. The only thing I
would have changed would be not to do guided math every day. I would have done it every other day
to get some more variety in my classroom. I wouldn t want my students to get caught in a routine.
When I was an elementary student, I always enjoyed doing different things every

Everyone Needs Health Care At The Jungles Of Congo
Everyone needs health care, from the mountains of Colorado to the jungles of Liberia. Therefore, it is
hard to argue that the medical community is not one of the most essential in our society. However,
many people go to their doctor s office and either complain about the paperwork, the wait, or how the
staff treated them. The medical culture is paramount to our society because it serves our community
by maintaining human health, analyzes health trends, deals with insurance companies and even aids
low income individuals to get the proper care they require to live a healthy life. Judging from past
experiences and what seems like public opinion, the doctor s office is a place where many people
associate their time there with anxiously waiting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As busy as the office seemed to be, the mostly female staff appeared to work in unison, comparable to
a finely tuned machine. Surprisingly, a female patient in about her 60s walked in with homemade
brownies to pass to all the staff at the office as appreciation. However, according to Krizia Martinez
(2016), an employee of a family practice, not all patients are as wonderful as the one mentioned, they
have regular patients that seem to treat the front desk staff as people below them, often treating them
with attitude or not acknowledging their existence as humans (Martinez, personal communication,
July 02, 2016). Nevertheless, the staff seems to continue to do their jobs and take care of patients,
regardless of how they are treated. This behavior reveals the intent of unbiased medical care for
patients. From my view, there seemed to be a lot of work being done, even when there were not any
patients waiting in the lobby. There are other responsibilities, other than dealing with patients directly,
to take care of. As told by Krizia Martinez (2016), a medical biller, there is special coding used to bill
insurance companies called ICD 10. This coding can refer to general issues such as an annual physical
examination or to a specific issue such as a scratch from a squirrel (Martinez, personal
communication, July 02, 2016). This coding system is just an example of the over complicated billing
process that insurance companies and government

Teenage Subcultures
Due to the war ending in 1945, all families were able to settle down and have children. This led to the
baby boom of 1945 1960s where there was an abundance of youths in the 1950s. In the 50s there were
almost 100 babies born a minute putting a threat to over population (Howell.G, 1975). From this, the
teenager was invented (Kotarba J A, 2012) where many different subcultures had formed, each with
individual styles and influenced by figures in film, music and TV. Glossy fashion magazines such as
Vogue and Seventeen were also becoming very popular so youths were able to easily see what the
future held for trends and what clothes they should and shouldn t be wearing. Teenage girls and boys
were now recognised as a new consumer and when designers started to realise this they set up
boutiques inside department stores (Buxbaum.G, 1999). They sold simpler designs at cheaper prices
where the younger generation were able to create their own style rather than copying their parents, for
example ranges of clothes would come out specifically targeted at young girls for dances where they
would have a large choice in dresses to buy. British teenagers had twice as much money to spend on
what they liked compared to their parents (Breward.C, 1999). This meant that a new market opened up
for retailers with a great economic dependence on this particular age group. One of these subcultures
that had formed was called the Teddy Boys and Girls which originated in Mayfair, London before

The Terror Of Osama Bin Laden
The terrorists attacks on September 11, 2001 centered on New York City was a devastation that
affected the United States as Al Qaeda wanted to instill fear in the mass public, and also send a
message simultaneously to their counterparts that they were not to be taken lightly. Since then, it has
never been forgotten and was one of the worst tragedies to occur in recent history. In an otherwise
positive note, Osama Bin Laden has since been killed and his death has directly caused a morale
decrease in the terrorist faction. Terrorism was always in play when it came to the United States, but it
only came into the limelight with the 9/11 attacks. The attacks brought numerous repercussions, such

Essay about Audism Unveiled
Audism Unveiled
Audism by it s very definition is a negative or oppressive attitude towards deaf people by either deaf
or hearing people and organizations, and a failure to accommodate them. This documentary really
opened my eyes as to what deaf people have gone through since the beginning of time. They have
been treated with prejudice and oppression. They have been looked down upon as if they are some sort
of subhuman not worthy of being classified as a normal person because of the fact that they cannot
hear. Audism goes under the same category as racism, sexism, discrimination, etc. In the movie,
Audism Unveiled, they were many testimonials of different deaf people explaining their stories of
oppression simply because of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now, he is an advocate for parents of deaf children to learn sign language so that no one would ever
have to experience what he had to. I think that all parents with deaf children should embrace their
child and their new culture and learn the language that is most easy for their child to communicate in.
Most deaf children feel lonely and abandoned from their families because no one ever bothers to
include them into family conversations. Whenever the deaf person would ask what s going on, they
would say Oh we ll tell you later. Always the same thing and deaf people are tired of it. They want to
know now and be included! It s not fair that they have to be left out just because they re deaf. It causes
depression and resentment in the deaf person when the family constantly excludes the deaf family
member. In some situations, deafness was viewed as evil. One man said that his aunt told him that he
must have been a bad man in his past life and as punishment, he was born deaf in this life time.
Hearing people do view being deaf as a misfortune, but that does not justify the way that they get
treated by hearing people. I think it s horrible how they are viewed as unable. I would hate to imagine
someone treating me like I m not able because I m Hispanic or because I m gay. It would tear me apart
and I m sure most deaf people feel the same way. Audism needs to be a bigger issue among hearing
people and they need to know that being deaf is not a handicap, deaf

Thomas Benton s Prelude To Death
The work I chose from the Missouri Historical Society is Thomas Benton s Prelude to Death. Based
on Appelbaum published in the Missourian, Benton painted this soon after the United States entered
World War II and it shows the first embarkation of American soldiers for Africa (2011). In the
painting, I am mainly focusing on the usage of shape, value and the color. This painting mainly
depicts a scene that soldiers are getting ready to go on board for fighting against the World War II.
They all wear on uniforms and most likely have already lined up in an order. Here is a very interesting
part I found from the painting. Most of the light is gathered on the soldier who leans backward and

so that when talking with someone from this culture you are not coming off as rude and telling the

The social security taxes, which are currently at a rate of 10.4% and Medicare taxes which is currently

A Social Security tax is paid on the first $106,800 of income that is earned but anything thereafter is
not exposed to this tax. Taxes that are paid in for Social Security are most commonly known as going

George Bailey In It s A Wonderful Life
In It s a Wonderful Life, the main character, George Bailey, is a good, giving man who faces a rough
patch in his life. I think that this story teaches us a great lesson on being thankful. I liked the part
when, at the end, Clarence finishes his job and earns his wings. The part I didn t like was when
George said that he wishes that he was never born. The lesson that It s a Wonderful Life teaches us
about thankfulness is that you need to appreciate how blessed you really are and not to take it for
granted. To apply this message to our daily lives, you can focus more on the little things and not so
much on the big things. You can do this by focusing more on the house you have and the food that is
being provided, rather than focusing on if it s what you like or not or wanting to own more. George
Bailey never got the opportunity to travel the world and build skyscrapers liked he hoped because he
feels tied down to the family company he never wanted to own and work for. As George Bailey got
older, he began to see everyone grow up to be what they wanted, and he sees all of his youth and
opportunities go right past him. George decides to end his life because he believes he is worth more
dead than alive. When Clarence, his guardian angel, sees this, he decides to show George what life
would be like if he had never existed. My George Bailey is my mom because she has had an impact on
my life since the day I was born. She has helped me through hard times and has taught me a lot of life
lessons. My mom is tough because she has to handle me and my two brothers who always fight and
usually don t get along. My mom has guts to stand up for what she thinks is right, and that s what
makes me love her even more. She is my mentor and my guide throughout life. She has rough patches
in her life, yet she never shows it. My mom is a lot like George Bailey because she usually does things
that she doesn t want to do, but she never says that she doesn t want to do it and she never complains.

me and my brothers that she usually doesn t take time for herself. That impacts me a lot because it

For the last three months, I have been volunteering at Bobbi and The Strays, while there I help feed

is that many times the workers have no time to be affectionate towards the animals. This can cause

difficult. I really enjoy being able to sit down and play with all of the kittens and cats. But, what I

My New Year s Resolution
This year was the same as last when it came time to make my New Year s Resolution. I set out to

already. I have tried to accomplish this over the last two years because I have tons of clothes that I can
no longer fit into and it s a small amount that I feel I should be able to lose, but I seem to always fall
short. The first few weeks in January I staied solid. I was going to the gym, eating right, but then daily

money becomes a factory at times. I had a bad week and then I tried to bounce back and get back on
my fitness routine, and then I got hit with the flu. How am I supposed to workout while I cant breath?
I am not saying it is an excuse but it is a set back. So after a month of disappointment I basically
stopped trying so hard. I still do plan to keep trying to finally accomplish this resolution but I believe
it will be a slow process that I have to get my head in and separate myself from others. Hopefully next
year I can make a new resolution and not repeat this same

Examples Of Loyalty In The Chrysalids
In the novel, The Chrysalids by John Wyndham, the trust, and loyalty that David s group and allies
demonstrated leads to their survival and ultimate escape from Waknuk. Examples of trust and loyalty
are demonstrated leading to the group s survival are allies like Uncle Axle and Rosalind s mother
supporting the group. Another example of trust and loyalty leading to the survival the group is how all
the members were loyal enough to choose to keep their secret (even though some of them were

Annotated Bibliography On Database Management Systems
The ability to store information has always been important for our survival. In the beginning,
information used to be shared by word of mouth. Then, with the invention of writing, data slowly
started to be stored in books kept in libraries, sorted in specific order that made them easily accessible.
Finally, the invention of the computers led to the evolution of databases.
Databases are important, because thanks to them humans are able to store and later on retrieve
information. The way in which databases arise is very simple. It all begins as a list in a word
processing system. As the size of the list increases, the data starts to appear inconsistent. If this occurs,
Database Management Systems come to help, due to the fact they can store a large amount of
information in a number of tables linked to each other. Programs such as Access are able to add new
data to a database or make changes to already existing data from the database; they are even able to
delete information.
These features assist people in analyzing and categorizing information in the following way:
Tables lie in the core of any given database. Thanks to them, the possibility of redundancy is greatly
reduced. A database can consist of a number of different tables which enables the researcher to break
information down into smaller (and easier to analyse) pieces. Just like spread sheets, they consist of
rows (also called records) and columns (fields). By using records, researchers are able to combine

Essay The Matthew Shepard Event
The Matthew Shepard Event
The human body is an object in which one lives and the medium through which one experiences
oneself and the world. The human body vests claims on ideology and space; and thus participates as
the site on which conflicts about belief systems and territory contest violently. Gay bodies become
entangled in violence when they enter into arenas that combat certain ideas. Gay bashing illustrates
incidences all in which bodies experience physical injury. In modern U.S. communities various
militant conservatives individually target homosexuals in gay bashing. Though few conservative
political groups explicitly avow targeting gays for physical violence, their members individually carry
out anti gay brutality. Mathew ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ironically, the word panic originates from the Greek god Pan, who was noted for causing terror. Gay
panic implies that causing terror in violence is due to forgivable bouts of misjudgment. The defense s
language suggests a lack of both premeditation and cognitive participation brought about by the
unexpected fright. Sociologists use panic to refer to irrational group behaviors, such as those arising
from riot mentality. This statute barrows language from social science for the purpose of linking gay
bashing to an academically accepted explanation for seemingly illogical group behavior. Defense
attornies often argue that the victim s sexual advancement on the defendants who are already
extrememly insecure about their own heterosexual orientation gave their precarious sanity just enough
of a nudge to tip over and hence produce irrational violent behavior. The defense also assumes that
homosexuality is such a terror as to uproot even something so supposedly stable as heterosexuality. If
gay bashing is a symptom of a mental disease then the defendents must be suffering patients instead of
knowing criminals. By pathologizing gay bashing, the medical and social jargon legitimizes it through
institutional recognition.
To facilitate exploring a specific anti gay defense, I locate this statute within its homophobic political

Teen Binge Drinking
It starts at a young age, parents telling their kids what they can and can t do. No matter what parents
think, kids are going to do what they want despite how many times you tell them not to do it. In the
end, the best you can hope for as a parent is that giving kids the information they need to make the
right decision will prevent a disaster. Teens have to make decisions every day that could potentially
affect the rest of their lives. Bending to peer pressure like whether or not to take drugs or a drink
alcohol is something most teens will encounter early on. In the following paper I will discuss aspects
and consequences of not only drinking but driving while under the influence as well.
The question is why do teens drink anyway? There are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On several occasions throughout my experience, I would see adults staggering home from the local
bars or even attempting to ride a bike. One night in particular, we were called to inform a party that
they needed to lower the music at this late hour as a respectful gesture to the community. As we were
leaving the scene, the officer noticed a group of three people leaving the party on a golf cart with no
headlights. We proceeded to pull them over to inquire about the lack headlights. Soon after the officer
made contact with the driver of the golf cart, he realized the driver smelled alcohol. The officer asked
the man if he had been drinking that night and the driver responded with a no denying everything and
refused to be subject to a breathalyzer test. If someone refuses a breathealyzer test, the officer can use
a field sobriety test to determine if the individual is impaired. The standardized field sobriety test or
(SFST) is defined as is a battery of 3 tests performed during a traffic stop in order to determine if a
driver is impaired. (AAA) The first of the three steps is the horizontal gaze nystagmus. This test
consists of the officer holding the tip of a pen while the individual holds his/her head still. The driver
then must follow the pen with their eyes only. If he/she is indeed impaired, the officer will notice that
they eye will involuntarily twitch. Where the eye starts twitching indicates the lever a greater or lesser
level of impairment. The second of the tests is one of the more well known, the walk and turn. For the
walk and turn test, the individual that is being tested has to take nine steps touching heel to toe the
turning around and walking back. The third and final intoxication indicator is the one leg stand test.
The individual in question is told to stand with one foot about 6 inches from the ground

Evaluation Of A Psychiatric Placement Without Legal...
In relatively recent American history one could be civilly committed to a psychiatric placement
without legal intervention. Prior to the 1970s persons with mental illness were often subject to gross
negligence when they were committed to a psychiatric placement. Furthermore, individuals who were
committed to these institutions lost their civil rights. Before the 1950s persons in the United States of
America could be held without legal jurisdiction in psychiatric asylums. The 1950s had some changes
to these laws. However, the practices at these institutions were often abusive. Overcrowding, lack of
funding, and theory all contributed to the inhumane treatment of the mentally ill. However, since the
1970s those persons who require a civil commitment have not only gained additional rights, but they
have also been given the ability to challenge their committal. Further, those who have been
institutionalized are offered treatment. Finally, the emphasis in the United States has been on
deinstitutionalization which requires that a commitment occurs at the least restrictive level of care. In
the United States of America, the changes to the mental health system have provided persons with
mental illness not only a chance at restoration but also dignity. The primary legal justification for
civilly committing a person to a psychiatric institution in the United States of America is for their
safety of the safety of society. For example, according to Meyer and Weaver, individuals

Persuasive White House
White is one of those shades that we often avoid at all costs in a kid s bedroom doors since it stains
very easily and takes a lot of work to keep clean and looking great. In most children s bedrooms, the
only place that you will see white is on the ceiling, with most parents taking the stand of banishing
white doors from a kid s bedroom. Here are just a few alternatives that make a great replacement for
white bedroom doors in your child s room: Natural wood finishes are high, but faux wood materials
that are more durable are a better choice. Your priority in a kid s bedroom doors is durability.

For instance, crayons, food, gum, dirt, mud, pencils, and markers leave marks that are almost
impossible to get rid of totally and to even make a dent in the stain you have to buy special products.
Pen, marker, and gum rarely come off entirely, leaving some trace of the original stain. Some color
options will not have this problem; such as black and some wood finish shades. Consider this
scenario: Your six year old son comes running in the house after an afternoon playing outside. His feet
and hands are covered in mud, grass, and grime, and the first place he is heading is not likely to be the
bathroom if he can sneak past Mom. Browns and black hide more than just stains on your child s
bedroom doors. We mostly consider the entry door for the bedroom, but this also applies to closet
doors and bathroom doors for some kids rooms. Many shades of brown and black hide the stains we
have already gone over, but they also mask scuff marks, small scratches, and minor dings. White doors
show everything, including the smallest ding, nick, mark, scratch, or scrape. As you make plans to do
your spring cleaning or just think about touching up the details in the house, those white doors will

Dead Orca Research Paper
In 2002, a deceased female orca was discovered on Dungeness Spit in Washington. The dead orca
contained 1000 parts per million (ppm) PCBs, an estimated six times more than the average Pacific
Northwest orca (1). PCBs, or polychlorinated biphenyls, are a type of manufactured chemical. Their
use was predominantly within electrical equipment, acting as coolants or lubricants, along with being
used in paints, cement, or other common material (2). Such chemicals are a large issue in the PNW,
despite being banned decades ago.
Today, killer whales are in danger of becoming extinct due to pollution of substances like PCBs. Due
to biomagnification, chemicals like those mentioned only magnify in populations higher on the food
chain. How does this effect the orca population? Pollution at these levels are creating various health
issues in the large mammals and decreasing their numbers rapidly. Equally worrisome is the fact that
humans consume the same contaminated food as orcas (e.g., salmon). ... Show more content on

high levels of contaminants (3). Seals have been known to have immune complications when carrying

defects, chromosomal issues, and cancer (4). Unfortunately, salmon is one of the top contributors to
the pollution in orcas, and a food source for the majority of humans. In consequence, people are at risk
for the same negative effects of biomagnification as orcas. For this reason, there is often a
recommended limit on seafood consumption. Some examples of PCBs effects on humans are cancer

explain why overachievers or people who want to be perfect are stuck in this little box of perfection
and that we need to get out. Being Wrong is one of the most natural things us as humans can do. It is
something that everyone of us has done at one time or another, no one is ever perfect. And if so why

Barger feels that being wrong is just human nature, and that no matter how intelligent or what position
you hold in society you will not always be right.
Barger explains his personally connection of why he believes in uncertainty. He is an evangelical
Christian and a pastor, that struggled to accept the fact that he is gay since it was against the
fundamentals of his religion. He was so certain that he wasn t homosexual for years but in the process
he was actually hurting himself. Barger tells us that his belief in uncertainty is becoming greater due
to all the certainty around him, for example religious leaders or members are very certain that their
actions whether it be acts of terrorism or war will guarantee their place in heaven or with their gods.
Certainty can drive people to do crazy things and to Barger it can almost be like your mind is in a
prison, but just the simple act of being uncertain can make a man a better person.

The consequences of war can either have a positive or negative impact on a society. The results of war
have the ability to bring together people and even nations to solve conflicts of inequality and tyranny,
but war can also divide countries, nations and even families. (TRANSITION). This is what took place

The Baroque Period Of Music
Unlike the Baroque period of music with its flourish and embellishments, the Classical period of
music had a more structured and formal format to its music. Music of this time period, which lasted

of music at this time were sonatas, symphonies, and string quartets. Although opera was still

The second man who defined the Classical period and also began the Romantic period of music was

Essay on Controversial Television Advertising
Introduction
Parents today have an obligation to keep their children safe from the harsh reality of life around them.
Just by turning on the television a child is subjected to violence and provocative images, or is shown
the coolness of lighting up a cigarette and drinking alcohol. Television advertisements pose a threat to
preserving a child s innocence; they go above and beyond being an advertisement and become a
weapon that is slowly tearing away at the decency in American homes.

A market structure is where the physical characteristics of the market, where firms interact (). Market
structures can highlight the criteria of firms, and express the barriers that they may face with entering.
There are four types of competition across various market structures. The types of competition are
perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, and monopoly. Each types of market
structures are a direct reflection of the current economic market state. When a company assesses
market structures, the company must conduct proper research on the customers, competition, and

Even in perfect competition market, the demand and supply can shift at any moment. Most of the
time, the shift has already been predicted. Within a perfection competition market, there a different
types of equilibriums. The different types of equilibriums within a perfect completion are the
competitive, long run, and market equilibriums.
The competitive equilibrium emphasizes that a perfect competition has four common characteristics.
The first characteristic of a perfection competition is when a large number of firms produces goods or
service for a market that has a large amount of consumer. The second characteristic of a perfect
competition is that there are no barriers for new firms to enter the markets at any time. The third
characteristic of a perfect competition is all of the firms in the market sell produces that are identical
in nature. The fourth characteristic of perfect competition is that all firms and consumers are price
takers (). This means that the firms will have product for sale at a certain price, and the consumer will
have no problem purchasing the product at that price. Consumers do not influence the prices at all in a
perfect competition.
The long run equilibrium emphasizes that a perfect competition firms can enter and leave a market
whenever they choose to. Long run equilibriums will initially show profits. After a long period of
time, the price will ultimately end up at a stall,

The Problem With The United States Constitution

The Problem with the United States Constitution
According to the United Nations, human rights are defined as rights inherent to all human beings,
whatever their nationality, place of residence, sex, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, language,
or any other status. Humans all equally entitled to human rights without discrimination. These rights
are all interrelated, interdependent and indivisible.
The fight to protect human rights has been ongoing since the creation of law. The question of what
constitutes as a human right has been raised time and time again to redefine laws in order to
accommodate groups who have had their rights violated. From women s rights to the rights of
coloured people in America, social movements have been an integral part of creating change for the
betterment of society. Today, the world faces yet another movement: the campaign for gay rights and
the legalization of same sex marriage.
The gay rights movement in Canada began in 1967 with the arrest of Everett George Klippert on the
grounds of his homosexual conduct. He was the last person in Canada to be arrested for his sexual
orientation, as his case sparked protests and demands for reform. Ten years later, the decriminalization
of homosexuality in Canada ensued as a direct result of this case.
In the United States, the gay rights movement began much earlier. Dating back to 1924 the Society for
Human Rights in Chicago, the earliest

How Software Developers Invented New Development Processes...
In this paper I will discuss what are the similarities and differences in the case study should you build
strategy like you build software? and the book? And, advantages and disadvantages of specific
strategies mentioned in both the book and the case study.
The case study focuses on the importance of developing strategies that are newer, faster and more
effective strategy making processes. The case study compares how software developers invented new
development processes, such as rapid application development, extreme programming and agile
software development, to confront the new realities, where many strategists in various companies uses
traditional approaches that are not as effective as the strategies used by software developers. The case
study emphasizes on the importance of updating and changing strategies so companies can run a
smooth operation. The case study has only focused on one form of strategy which is Adaptive
Approach to Strategy Development, The Spiral Model as the best and most effective strategy.
The book mentions various forms of strategies in details. Also, it emphasizes on the importance of
choosing the right strategy in order for a company to succeed as we have seen the case study, In
chapter six we can see the importance of competitive advantage, steps involved in strategy making
process, types of corporate level strategies, various types of industrial strategies and components of
firm level strategies.

Albert Einstein is one of the most influential scientist of the 20th century, and he helped propel

American Fashion Industry in 21st Century
American Fashion in 21st Century Fashion is the need to adapt to ever changing styles; to dress in

What is more, this completion extends to designers as well since they strive to differentiate their
products introduce innovative styles which can result in an inefficient use of resources and illegal

industry exploits cheap foreign labor. The glamor, the runways and the exhibitions are just the front of
a dark background. This industry works on the basis of subcontracting, where designers place orders
with manufacturers who then hire sub contractor to complete their orders. Since this industry is highly

Thus, the legislature may (i) exempt certain classes of property from taxation at all, such as charities,

Reservation System
The drafters of the Indian constitution visualized that a major chunk of population, because of living
in remote areas, might remain devoid of benefits that would be available to other citizens of free India.
To neutralize this handicap they introduced reservations in education and

employment. In their opinion, this approach was easier than extending the reach of the facilities to
remote locations. And they believed that in due course of time the backward classes would be propped
up to a level that equals the others.
Some strange reawakening prompted the Janta Party government under Bharat Ratna Morarji
Desai to enlarge the span of reservations. Mandal commission was established in India in 1979 with a
mandate to identify the socially or educationally backward, based on additional parameters. The
commission brought in 11 socio economic and educational indicators to determine backwardness and
introduced the term Other Backward Classes (OBC) , as a yet another class distinction in the country.
The commission s report of 1980 recommended that for accommodating the

Min Wage Essay
Should Minimum wage be increased?
Introduction
For many decades now, there has been heated debates concerning minimum wages and increases in
those wages. Most people have a tendency to assume that when the minimum wage is increased
people will benefit. They do not stop to think of the consequences that come from minimum wage
increases. The general population merely assumes that people should make an adequate amount of
income and never stop to consider the consequences, nor do they stop to consider alternatives. A rise
in minimum wages is not necessarily the best approach to helping the poverty stricken individuals in
this country. The following paper presents an overview of various problems concerning raising
minimum wage, finding that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Poor
The primary reason most people give for wanting to increase the minimum wage is that of helping
poor people. There are many studies that indicate the benefits are just as numerous as the damage
done. According to James Kaz, the majority of those who are paid minimum wage are not poor but
rather one of at least one other income providers in a household. Most people working for minimum
wage are teenagers...and those used to simply go work for almost nothing for some company or
individual in the field they wanted their career . (Kaz02.html)
It appears that the poor are done much more damage than good through minimum wage increases.
Neumark et al. (1999) provide the following background in that regard:
The lower employment occurs mainly because the increase in the cost of low skilled labor, relative to
the cost of using other productive inputs (such as machinery or more skilled workers), leads
employers away from using low skilled labor and toward these other inputs. This substitution effect is
reinforced by the higher overall cost of production associated with the legislated increase in the wage
for low skilled workers, which in turn raises the price of the product and results in less output sold.
(NA)
In addition, there are numerous workers who are adversely affected by a minimum wage change in the
fact that they do not receive the full amount of the legislated increase. This is what happens to, say, an
individual who

How Is The Australian Legend Poem
In the opinion of historian and author of The Australian Legend Russel Ward, his representation of the
typical Australian is a practical, rough man who gives things a go. Other perceived ideas stated in his
text are; masculinity and mateship, egalitarianism, larrikinism, anti intellectualism and stoicism.
Published in 1958, these ideologies symbolize the typical man in the days in was written, whereas
nowadays it can be perceived differently with modern, multicultural Australians. Though most of the
ideas are still accurate to todays people, it was only focused on the men, and not the women or general
society including the indigenous. I have chosen to analyse two classic Australian bush poems by two
well known competitors. The first one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem focuses on explaining the hardship of the bush and the harsh realities we don t think about.
According to Dawson s aesthetic illustration, the life of a bushman is a tough and difficult scene,
having to battle many seasonal and lifelong challenges. In Russel Wards definition of The typical
Australian, this poem closely relates to the Stoicism and the Aussie battler , relating to the Bushmens
fortitude, e.g His back is growing rounder slaving for the

Let the set up stand for 15 minutes until the temperature stabilizes. 4. Pour about 5 ml of 0.1 M KNO3
into the center well. Pour about 5 ml of 0.50 M ZnSO4 into well #1 and about 5 ml of 0.50 M CuSO4
into well #2. 5. With clean tweezers, take a s trip of filter paper and dip one end into the central well
(where immersion in the KNO3 solution will hold one end); dip the other end into well #1. Repeat this
procedure with another strip of filter paper, dipping the other end into well #2. This creates the salt
bridge for your galvanic cell. 6. With clean tweezers take a zinc metal strip and sand it (on a piece of
paper so as not to scratch the table top) to remove any oxide coating. Bend 2 cm of one end of the ªS
trip and immerse it in the ZnSO4 solution (well #1). The rest of the metal strip (3cm) extends out to
the edge of the cell and should be bent over the rim. Repeat the same procedure with the copper metal
strip and place it in well #2. Later the electrical leads (alligator clips ) from the interface will be
attached to the metal strips. 7. Fasten your temperature probe to the ring stand with a clamp and adjust
the temperature probe such that its tip can be immersed in the central well (KNO3 solution) of the cell.
It is assumed that the temperature of the ZnSO4 solution and CuSO4 solution will be very close to the
temperature of the KNO3 solution throughout the experiment. 8. Start the computer program to

Why Minnie Wright Killed Mr. Wright
3. The theme that I see in the freewriting is the story that the lonesome house tells the women,
especially Mrs. Hale. The men are looking for evidence, but the women see, feel and hear in the
silence. Murder has not been the experience of Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters, but they understand the
emotions, the heart and the anger of Mrs. Wright. Minnie was silent for so long, she exploded in anger
at the end. 4. The stillness of the lonesome Wright home clearly tells the story of why Minnie Wright
killed Mr. Wright. The topic of my paper will be the story that the women hear in the objects found
within the home. 5. This message could be illustrated by the broken glass of the frozen preserves, the

Liar Liar Compare And Contrast
In Alan McMonagle s Liar Liar, the father s approachable state becomes solely dependable upon his
inebriation. As the son finds his father to be a happier man late at night when he gets home
intoxicated, this element creates a much stronger bond between the son and his father. This can be
seen when they both begin discussing their common passion: Gangster movies. By doing so, the
author demonstrates the existing bond between the two main characters. Although the son does not
know of his father s inebriation, it is made obvious to the reader that the father is a better, happier, and
more approachable person every time that he is not sober. He remembers perfectly the most famous
lines and impressions from all of them (McMonagle 54). By doing

Dr. James Naismith certainly would be satisfied to witness the present achievement of a basic
diversion that he composed over 100 years earlier. Basketball has changed over the times since it was
first developed. The basketball changed a few times before they came up with the perfect style ball for
this sport. The rules have changed from the original 13 rules to a whole book of rules. Since 1890 to
the present several rules have been established. For example, if a player who is fouled can t shoot the
free throw, the other team coach selects the free throw shooter from the 4 players on the floor. The
coach of the fouled player used to be able to select any player from his roster to substitute. Another
change in the rules are the formation around the free throw line. The players that are trying to retrieve
possession of the ball after the free throw shot changed the number of players around the lane from 8
to 6. Exchanging possession of the ball rule was introduced in this time period. The jump ball is only
to start the game and overtime periods. The teams alternate taking the ball out of bonds for situation
that would cause for a jump

  • 2. Irony In The Outsiders There are many mind boggling books made throughout history, but a book written by S.E. Hinton, The Outsiders, melted the hearts of many. . In this book, there is so much conflict between the greasers and socs culminated in violence and physical confrontations. Greasers are the people who live on the east side of Tulsa with less money than middle and higher class. Socs are the higher class that have parties while getting drunk and still being highly respected, unlike the greasers who are looked down at by almost everyone. These differences are only the beginning, and most of the hostility between the socs and greasers based on acts of revenge. The acts of revenge throughout the book, The Outsiders, reveals external conflict, internal conflict, and irony. Revenge is a huge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the beginning of the book The Outsiders, Ponyboy got jumped and the soc that was holding the knife said to Pony, Need a haircut greaser? When the soc said this snide comment, he meant it in a humourous way, but he also was giving the vibe that he was gonna cut Pony s hair or hurt him. It is also ironic how Johnny is a kind of Christ like figure in The Outsiders, Dally is symbolizes Judas, and the rest of the gang symbolizes the apostles. Johnny gives up his life to save others, like Jesus did. Dally could not handle the death of Johnny, so he killed himself, like Judas. The gang, like the apostles, kept on living and telling the story of their deceased loved ones. Dally felt like it was his fault that Johnny died, like Judas who killed himself because he turned Jesus in. One more thing that is ironic is that Johnny killed Bob as an act of revenge for almost killing Ponyboy. It was a bad action to kill Bob, but their bad actions lead them to a holy place, the church. These are examples of how irony is associated with revenge in The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the really is that many adolescents are obtaining part time employment while in high school. According Santrock (2014) It is estimated that 80 to 90 percent of adolescents are employed at some point during high school (p.387). I do agree that there are some potentially positive influences. Some of the advantageous that a working adolescent may experience are the development of autonomy, social learning, and intergenerational harmony and contribute to the continuity between adolescence and adulthood (Greenberger Steinberg, 1981. p.691). However, I believe that there are much more disadvantages than advantageous. One of the disadvantages is that they may not have time for school, family, and friends. An adolescent s first priority should be obtaining a higher education. When they work they may place more emphasis on their employment instead of their education. Also, they may become stressed out to fulfill their numerous commitments. They will have to effectively balance their time to study and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One research study found that it was not just working, but the long hours that affected their grades (Greenberger Steinberg, 1986. p.691). This can cause a great deal of stress in their life. For instance, if an adolescent works at McDonalds waiting on customers they may feel stress in ensuring that they meet the expected time frames and to provide customers with a quick and accurate service. • 5. Compare and Contrast Of Mice and Men Movie and Book Essay Compare and Contrast Of Mice and Men Movie and Book The classic novel, Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck was made into a Hollywood Blockbuster in 1992. Directed and acted by Gary Sinise and John Malkovich, Hollywood took a stab at trying to recreate this literary success. The novel, which takes place in the 1930 s, follows the lives of two men, George and Lennie, as they try to attain their dream of owning a farm. George is a smart man who always seems to have things figured out. Lennie is massive, but has the mind of a young child. George looks after him, but it is not easy since Lennie always seems to get himself in some kind of trouble. As they struggle towards their dreams, George and Lennie face obstacles that test ... Moreover, in the book George is shown to really hate Curley, whereas in the movie, George doesn t seem to like Curley too much but he definitely doesn t hate him. Apart from these characters, all the others are pretty much very similar in both the book and the movie. As well as the movie having some character differences, some of the scenes were either cut out or added. One of the major differences in the movie is that Candy never comes into the room when Lennie and Crooks are talking to each other. This is an important part in the novel because when Candy comes in, Crooks finds about their future plan wants to get in on the deal. Except this scene is cut short in the movie and Candy never shows up at Crooks house. Another important part that is changed in the movie is the ending. The movie never shows Lennie have the illusions of his Aunt Carla and the rabbits lecturing him while he is waiting by the pond. Also, is seems as though in the movie George doesn t hesitate to shoot Lennie, and it is all over very quickly. Furthermore, the important scene when Slim tells George, You hadda, George (107), never happens in the movie, but instead it ends with an image coming from within George s imagination, a memory of the many happy times that he and Lennie had shared. There are also some scenes that are added into the movie, but only because the novel is so short, they needed to add things to make the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When the plan changed from her doing 3rd and 4th to just 3rd she decided to continue with her plan on using guided math. While doing guided math, students are working on math problems they learned in the lesson before and working on increasing on their basic knowledge of math facts. Guided math is set up at stations. Therefore, it is hard to argue that the medical community is not one of the most essential in our society. However, many people go to their doctor s office and either complain about the paperwork, the wait, or how the staff treated them. The medical culture is paramount to our society because it serves our community by maintaining human health, analyzes health trends, deals with insurance companies and even aids low income individuals to get the proper care they require to live a healthy life. Nevertheless, the staff seems to continue to do their jobs and take care of patients, regardless of how they are treated. This behavior reveals the intent of unbiased medical care for patients. • 9. Teenage Subcultures Due to the war ending in 1945, all families were able to settle down and have children. This led to the baby boom of 1945 1960s where there was an abundance of youths in the 1950s. In the 50s there were almost 100 babies born a minute putting a threat to over population (Howell.G, 1975). From this, the teenager was invented (Kotarba J A, 2012) where many different subcultures had formed, each with individual styles and influenced by figures in film, music and TV. Glossy fashion magazines such as Vogue and Seventeen were also becoming very popular so youths were able to easily see what the future held for trends and what clothes they should and shouldn t be wearing. Teenage girls and boys were now recognised as a new consumer and when designers started to realise this they set up boutiques inside department stores (Buxbaum.G, 1999). They sold simpler designs at cheaper prices where the younger generation were able to create their own style rather than copying their parents, for example ranges of clothes would come out specifically targeted at young girls for dances where they would have a large choice in dresses to buy. British teenagers had twice as much money to spend on what they liked compared to their parents (Breward.C, 1999). This meant that a new market opened up for retailers with a great economic dependence on this particular age group. They have been looked down upon as if they are some sort of subhuman not worthy of being classified as a normal person because of the fact that they cannot hear. Whenever the deaf person would ask what s going on, they would say Oh we ll tell you later. Always the same thing and deaf people are tired of it. They want to know now and be included! It s not fair that they have to be left out just because they re deaf. It causes depression and resentment in the deaf person when the family constantly excludes the deaf family member. Hearing people do view being deaf as a misfortune, but that does not justify the way that they get treated by hearing people. I think it s horrible how they are viewed as unable. • 17. George Bailey In It s A Wonderful Life In It s a Wonderful Life, the main character, George Bailey, is a good, giving man who faces a rough patch in his life. I think that this story teaches us a great lesson on being thankful. I liked the part when, at the end, Clarence finishes his job and earns his wings. The part I didn t like was when George said that he wishes that he was never born. The lesson that It s a Wonderful Life teaches us about thankfulness is that you need to appreciate how blessed you really are and not to take it for granted. To apply this message to our daily lives, you can focus more on the little things and not so much on the big things. You can do this by focusing more on the house you have and the food that is being provided, rather than focusing on if it s what you like or not or wanting to own more. George Bailey never got the opportunity to travel the world and build skyscrapers liked he hoped because he feels tied down to the family company he never wanted to own and work for. As George Bailey got older, he began to see everyone grow up to be what they wanted, and he sees all of his youth and opportunities go right past him. George decides to end his life because he believes he is worth more dead than alive. When Clarence, his guardian angel, sees this, he decides to show George what life would be like if he had never existed. My George Bailey is my mom because she has had an impact on my life since the day I was born. She has helped me through hard times and has taught me a lot of life lessons. My mom is tough because she has to handle me and my two brothers who always fight and usually don t get along. My mom has guts to stand up for what she thinks is right, and that s what makes me love her even more. She is my mentor and my guide throughout life. She has rough patches in her life, yet she never shows it. My mom is a lot like George Bailey because she usually does things that she doesn t want to do, but she never says that she doesn t want to do it and she never complains. One of the worst side effects of living in a shelter is that many times the workers have no time to be affectionate towards the animals. This can cause them to become aggressive or even depressed making the transition from shelter to home much more difficult. I really enjoy being able to sit down and play with all of the kittens and cats. Also like last, I haven t stuck to my plan and have given up already. I have tried to accomplish this over the last two years because I have tons of clothes that I can no longer fit into and it s a small amount that I feel I should be able to lose, but I seem to always fall short. The first few weeks in January I staied solid. I was going to the gym, eating right, but then daily life happened and I had a hard time adjusting and fitting it into my daily routine. Plus there is after holiday gift cards for restaurants, starbucks and I am a coupon collector; Finding good deals on food always makes it hard to pass up on things that I love to eat when they are at such a bargain. Sometimes dieting seems a little more expensive than the alternative. While I know it is more healthy money becomes a factory at times. I had a bad week and then I tried to bounce back and get back on my fitness routine, and then I got hit with the flu. How am I supposed to workout while I cant breath? I am not saying it is an excuse but it is a set back. So after a month of disappointment I basically stopped trying so hard. • 21. Annotated Bibliography On Database Management Systems The ability to store information has always been important for our survival. In the beginning, information used to be shared by word of mouth. Then, with the invention of writing, data slowly started to be stored in books kept in libraries, sorted in specific order that made them easily accessible. Finally, the invention of the computers led to the evolution of databases. Databases are important, because thanks to them humans are able to store and later on retrieve information. The way in which databases arise is very simple. It all begins as a list in a word processing system. As the size of the list increases, the data starts to appear inconsistent. If this occurs, Database Management Systems come to help, due to the fact they can store a large amount of information in a number of tables linked to each other. Programs such as Access are able to add new data to a database or make changes to already existing data from the database; they are even able to delete information. These features assist people in analyzing and categorizing information in the following way: Tables lie in the core of any given database. Thanks to them, the possibility of redundancy is greatly reduced. A database can consist of a number of different tables which enables the researcher to break information down into smaller (and easier to analyse) pieces. Just like spread sheets, they consist of rows (also called records) and columns (fields). By using records, researchers are able to combine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The human body vests claims on ideology and space; and thus participates as the site on which conflicts about belief systems and territory contest violently. Gay bodies become entangled in violence when they enter into arenas that combat certain ideas. Gay bashing illustrates incidences all in which bodies experience physical injury. Gay panic implies that causing terror in violence is due to forgivable bouts of misjudgment. The defense s language suggests a lack of both premeditation and cognitive participation brought about by the unexpected fright. Sociologists use panic to refer to irrational group behaviors, such as those arising from riot mentality. This statute barrows language from social science for the purpose of linking gay bashing to an academically accepted explanation for seemingly illogical group behavior. Defense attornies often argue that the victim s sexual advancement on the defendants who are already extrememly insecure about their own heterosexual orientation gave their precarious sanity just enough of a nudge to tip over and hence produce irrational violent behavior. The defense also assumes that homosexuality is such a terror as to uproot even something so supposedly stable as heterosexuality. Soon after the officer made contact with the driver of the golf cart, he realized the driver smelled alcohol. The officer asked the man if he had been drinking that night and the driver responded with a no denying everything and refused to be subject to a breathalyzer test. If someone refuses a breathealyzer test, the officer can use a field sobriety test to determine if the individual is impaired. The standardized field sobriety test or (SFST) is defined as is a battery of 3 tests performed during a traffic stop in order to determine if a driver is impaired. (AAA) The first of the three steps is the horizontal gaze nystagmus. This test consists of the officer holding the tip of a pen while the individual holds his/her head still. • 24. Evaluation Of A Psychiatric Placement Without Legal... In relatively recent American history one could be civilly committed to a psychiatric placement without legal intervention. Prior to the 1970s persons with mental illness were often subject to gross negligence when they were committed to a psychiatric placement. Furthermore, individuals who were committed to these institutions lost their civil rights. Before the 1950s persons in the United States of America could be held without legal jurisdiction in psychiatric asylums. The 1950s had some changes to these laws. However, the practices at these institutions were often abusive. Overcrowding, lack of funding, and theory all contributed to the inhumane treatment of the mentally ill. However, since the 1970s those persons who require a civil commitment have not only gained additional rights, but they have also been given the ability to challenge their committal. Further, those who have been institutionalized are offered treatment. Finally, the emphasis in the United States has been on deinstitutionalization which requires that a commitment occurs at the least restrictive level of care. In the United States of America, the changes to the mental health system have provided persons with mental illness not only a chance at restoration but also dignity. The dead orca contained 1000 parts per million (ppm) PCBs, an estimated six times more than the average Pacific Northwest orca (1). PCBs, or polychlorinated biphenyls, are a type of manufactured chemical. Their use was predominantly within electrical equipment, acting as coolants or lubricants, along with being used in paints, cement, or other common material (2). Such chemicals are a large issue in the PNW, despite being banned decades ago. Today, killer whales are in danger of becoming extinct due to pollution of substances like PCBs. Due to biomagnification, chemicals like those mentioned only magnify in populations higher on the food chain. How does this effect the orca population? Pollution at these levels are creating various health issues in the large mammals and decreasing their numbers rapidly. What is more, this completion extends to designers as well since they strive to differentiate their products introduce innovative styles which can result in an inefficient use of resources and illegal business practices. This need for cost minimization is one of the reasons as to why the fashion industry exploits cheap foreign labor. The glamor, the runways and the exhibitions are just the front of a dark background. This industry works on the basis of subcontracting, where designers place orders with manufacturers who then hire sub contractor to complete their orders. Since this industry is highly competitive subcontractor are given only take or leave option with often less payment compared to amount of work which forces them to resort to employing cheap labor in their own workshops which often end up resembling sweat shops. Even if this is not the case, designer brands have their own units to produce their goods. Recently many of the fashion retailers have been accused of underpaying their workers and violating international labor laws by running sweatshop. These involve extremely low wages, long working hours and poor working conditions. Earlier this month, factories in Cambodia were investigated for possible violation labor laws. These factories produced clothing for the fast fashion retailer H amp;M which was found to be paying their workers a measly wage of $61 a month by a Swedish TV program called Kalla Fakta (Keilla 1). Most people have a tendency to assume that when the minimum wage is increased people will benefit. They do not stop to think of the consequences that come from minimum wage increases. The general population merely assumes that people should make an adequate amount of income and never stop to consider the consequences, nor do they stop to consider alternatives. A rise in minimum wages is not necessarily the best approach to helping the poverty stricken individuals in this country. The Poor The primary reason most people give for wanting to increase the minimum wage is that of helping poor people. There are many studies that indicate the benefits are just as numerous as the damage done. According to James Kaz, the majority of those who are paid minimum wage are not poor but rather one of at least one other income providers in a household. Most people working for minimum wage are teenagers...and those used to simply go work for almost nothing for some company or individual in the field they wanted their career . (Kaz02.html) It appears that the poor are done much more damage than good through minimum wage increases. Neumark et al. (1999) provide the following background in that regard: The lower employment occurs mainly because the increase in the cost of low skilled labor, relative to the cost of using other productive inputs (such as machinery or more skilled workers), leads employers away from using low skilled labor and toward these other inputs. This substitution effect is reinforced by the higher overall cost of production associated with the legislated increase in the wage for low skilled workers, which in turn raises the price of the product and results in less output sold. (NA) In addition, there are numerous workers who are adversely affected by a minimum wage change in the fact that they do not receive the full amount of the legislated increase. This is what happens to, say, an individual who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
