Brute Force Research Paper
Weak passwords are responsible for 76% of data breaches (Keeper Security Whitepaper). Cyber
criminals have become much more sophisticated in the past few years at breaking passwords. Two
major types of cracking methods are used: brute force and dictionary attacks. Brute force is a trial and
error method used by application programs to decode data such as passwords or Data Encryption
Standards keys, through exhaustive effort , thus the term brute force. It is similar to a thief trying
multiple combinations to crack a safe. Dictionary attacks use large dictionaries, sometimes containing
millions of words, to defeat passwords. This technique has been enhanced by the number of accounts
that have been compromised in the past few years.

Essay On Long Term Care Insurance
The popularity of Long Term Care insurance (LTC) insurance policies has been growing since its
inception in the 1980s. Unlike traditional health insurance, Long Term Care insurance(LTC), covers
care generally not covered by health insurance, Medicare, or Medicaid, including personal and
custodial care in a variety of settings such as home care, a community organization, or other facility.
As baby boomers hit retirement age the question of long term care Insurance has become very
prominent the retirement and financial planning industry. The idea of long term insurance is to help
seniors avoid losing their next egg to health care cost beyond what they may be covered on Medicare
and Medicaid.
According to a New England Journal of Medicine reports in May of 2000 almost 51% of people 65
years and older are expected to need long term care as some point. The Wall Street Journal also notes
that about 55% of seniors 85 and older today have Alzheimer s or some other form of dementia which
is one of the principal reasons for needing long term care assistance. Achievements in medical science
have made it possible for people to have a longer life span the need long term care insurance has
become prominent. However, the question today is, is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Long term care insurance supports and protects families from the financial ruins as well as the
physical and emotional tool it takes to care for a loved one who is ill as it covers the cost of the care
needed. Hence the pro for LTC insurance is that it is a good step towards addressing the cost of a
potential health care crisis and cost down the road. It also allows the beneficiaries to maintain their
independence to certain extents as well as reduces the financial and psychological stress that a long
term care need causes a

Our Knowledge Of Living Things Increases Essay
As our knowledge of living things increases, as we come to a deeper understanding of their life cycles,
their interactions with other organisms, and the manifold ways in which they adjust to the
environment, we become more fully aware of how each of them is carrying out its biological functions
according to the laws of its species specific nature. But besides this, our increasing knowledge and
understanding also develop in us a sharpened awareness of the uniqueness of each individual
organism. Scientists who have made careful studies of particular plants and animals, whether in the
field or in laboratories, have often acquired a knowledge of their subjects as identifiable individuals.
Close observation over extended periods of time has led them to an appreciation of the unique
personalities of their subjects. Sometimes a scientist may come to take a special interest in a particular
animal or plant, all the while remaining strictly objective in the gathering and recording of data.
Nonscientists may likewise experience this development of interest when, as amateur naturalists, they
make accurate observations over sustained periods of close acquaintance with an individual organism.
As one becomes more and more familiar with the organism and its behavior, one becomes fully
sensitive to the particular way it is living out its life cycle. One may become fascinated by it and even
experience some involvement with its good and bad fortunes (that is, with the occurrence of

Blue Sky Mine Analysis
The combination of exciting and aggressive vocals, repeated and slick melodies of the lead guitar;
composed to encourage the motion of the air guitar and an enthusiastic 2 4 drum beat giving the songs
a steady beat to tap along with, makes rock an unique and awesome genre. Rock combines
characteristics of blues, country, folk, jazz, funk and classical music into one of the most thriving
forms of Australian music. However, rock truly started during 1980 s, where composers experimented
with their songs, creating a unique sound to the rest of the world. Furthermore, no one does this well
than the band midnight oil and their song Blue Sky Mine.
Blue Sky Mine was composed my midnight oil to reveal the damaging effects of mining and as said

Art has been around ever since the ancient city of...
Art has been around ever since the ancient city of Pompeii. The people of Pompeii used graffiti as a
way to display their cleverness; from poetry contests to playful recombinations of the letters that form
Roman Numerals. In the early 70s, graffiti was used as a way for young teens to mark their territory.
During that time, many people especially in New York City saw graffiti as vandalism and prohibited
it. Even though graffiti has been misused in some occasions, as long as the purpose is not to
deliberately mischievous or malicious destruction, graffiti is art.
In an article called, Reading the Writing on Pompeii s Walls published by Smithsoniammag.com,
graffiti is shown to be an art form. The writer says, In a stairwell, ... Show more content on

It is more colorful, and vandalism is at an all time low. People are getting the time they deserve to
complete their art works. This example shows the power of graffiti. It can change a whole city, and
dissolve many of the current problems. The graffiti has given Bogota a fairly poor city new life and
colorful walls around the whole city. It has also given Bogota freedom to communicate, meaning that
the graffiti helps spread ideas and can help people through hard times.
However, even though graffiti is portrayed as art by many people, some people think that all kinds of
graffiti is vandalism. They think that it is a dirty way to destroy a city, and a bad influence to young
adults and children growing up. In the article Vandals hit 18 statues in Grant Park with graffiti by
Carlos Sadovi, public buildings had been covered and nearly destroyed with tags by young teenages.
When Sandovi says, People, especially children, like to go up to the statues and pose with them for
pictures and touch them. He said this is the first time they have been vandalized here. In this case, the
children of the city will have to suffer through. People can also argue that the graffiti is a bad
influence for the children. However, even though some young teenages decided to vandalize a
building, doesn t make graffiti vandalism. There are graffiti artists that even make their paints out of

Saving And Planning For The Future
Saving and planning for the future is an important task that every individual should plan for. However,
many times individuals feel overwhelmed and are anxious about how it is possible to survive and plan
for the future. The Bible gives us good insight into how we should plan and manage our finances that
pleases the Lord. 2 Corinthians 9:6 states [w]hoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and
whoever sows generously will also reap generously (ESV). It is possible to save for the future while at
the same time pleasing the Lord. For those who love the Lord and live by his directions knows that
God is a God of plans. Jeremiah tells us For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord,
plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and hope (Jeremiah 29:11, NASV).
Concerning long term finance, there is one story, in particular, the story of Joseph the King of Dreams.
In this story, God gave two prisoners a dream and gave Joseph the ability to interpret them. That
revelation of the dreams came to pass and in time, Pharaoh had a dream. The news came to him of
Joseph s ability to interpret the dream, and he sent for Joseph. The dream was that there would be
seven years of good and plenty, followed by seven years of famine and destitution. Upon this
revelation, Pharaoh made Joseph ruler over the house and land. God gave Joseph a contingency plan.
First, let us talk about what a contingency is. Contingency is any unexpected situation

After the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand, Germany pledged their full support to Austria
Hungary in a potential war. When Serbia failed to agree to Austria Hungary s ultimatum, Austria
decided to declare war on Serbia. Russia, an ally of Serbia, mobilized their troops in response to
Austria declaring war, and received support from their other ally France. Consequently, Germany
declared war on France and Russia to aid Austria Hungary. To avoid a two front war with France in
the west and Russia in the east, Germany formulated the Schlieffen Plan. Created by General Alfred
von Schlieffen, the Schlieffen Plan involved invading Belgium and quickly defeating France.
Germany knew that it would take Russia six weeks to mobilize their troops,

Sun Yat sen wrote The Three People s Principles and the Future of the Chinese People in 1906 while
China was ruled by a monarch. During the Qing dynasty, the monarch controlled much of the lives of
the Chinese people. This caused many hardships for the population. If China wanted to progress and
grow as a nation, the monarch needed to be defeated. Sun Yat sen worked to improve the lives of the
Chinese people by bettering their government through nationalism, democracy, and people s
livelihood. Yat sen used nationalism as one of his main driving forces to start a revolution. He states
that the people of the Han are a lost nation because they are being discriminated by their monarchial
leaders. By uniting together, the Han should be able to

Essay On Myofascial Release
Given the patient s initial presentation and pain level during the evaluation, soft tissue mobilization
and myofascial release was performed. The patient was positioned supine with one pillow and a
bolster placed under bilateral lower extremities. Extreme stiffness in bilateral sternocleidomastoid
muscles consisted as the main focus of the initial treatment. The manual strokes were applied with
moderate pressure in a superior to inferior fashion along the direction of the muscle fibers. Treatment
duration lasted 15 minutes. Upon palpation, the left side was significantly stiffer and had more soft
tissue limitations. Scar mobilizations were also performed to help with the remodeling phase. After the
first treatment, the patient reported a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the scapular mobilizations, the patient was positioned side lying with the involved side up and
arm resting on the therapist s arm. These techniques were preformed to patient tolerance. The left
scapula presented with more limitations when compared to the mobility of the right scapula.
Myofascial release was also performed to bilateral upper trapezius muscles. The treatment session was
ended with a three minute suboccipital release. During the fourth treatment, gentle periscapular
strengthening exercises were prescribed to see how the patient tolerated therapeutic exercise. The
patient was given scapular retraction, elevation and protraction exercises. He performed one set of
fifteen with each exercise. The patient was also introduced to an instrument assisted soft tissue
mobilization (IASTM) technique using the edge tool. The use of the edge tool was thought to provide
a mechanical advantage for the therapist by allowing for deeper penetration of soft tissues while
reducing the stress in the therapist s hands.8 IASTM treatment is also thought to stimulate connective
tissue remodeling by resorption of excessive fibrosis and recruit fibroblasts to repair and regenerate
collagen.8 However, these findings are still being studied and have not been proven 100% effective in
human trials.8 Regardless, the

The Pros And Cons Of The Pharmaceutical Industry
Nowadays it seems like legal drugs are more expensive than illegal ones. This dilemma occurs
because the pharmaceutical industry affects the economy significantly. Although the United States is a
mixed market economy, there are instances where the economy seems like a free market economy. A
free market economy allows companies to determine the prices of goods free from government
intervention. The pharmaceutical industry, despite several regulations set by the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA), is a free market economy. Meaning, the pharmaceutical sector lacks
government regulation and has control over the prices of specialty drugs desperately needed by the
public. Therefore, the pharmaceutical industry being a free market negatively affects ... Show more

According to Paul Antony, DTCA aids consumers because it helps them recognize symptoms and their
increases communication between doctors and patients. He states that consumers that advertisements
empower them to seek out their doctor (para 3,10). However, advertisements are often emotional and
misleading. This type of advertisements causes patients to urge their doctors to prescribe them a
specialty drug because they notice they have a symptom. Doctors then would have to comply which
can end up being more harmful to the patient. Another argument is that pharmaceuticals make little
profit because new drugs cost so much to develop. Derek Lowe, a chemist, states that Expenses [are]
doing nothing but rising, and the success rate for drug discovery [is] going in the other direction (para
5). By his quote, Lowe means that the development of a drug outweighs the cost of the drug, resulting
in little profit. However, this case is on drugs that failed in the market. Drugs that are long past
development have the prices gouged for more profit. Therefore the government should regulate the
pharmaceutical industry because the industry is harmful towards the economy and patients. The
government can achieve this by enabling a cap on prices of specialty drugs and ensuring DCTA is not

Rise Of Abortion In The United States
Every day the number of abortion cases increases. Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy.
Abortions have become a trend among the youth of the 20th century. Although an abortion in the
United States is legal it can regulate and limited in individual states. Abortion is wrong and cruel there
are many positive options to make before taking that plan of action.
There have been an increasing number of abortion cases throughout the United States. Between 2000
and 2008 the abortion rate has increased 18 percent among poor women. Nearly 70 percent of
abortions are for women who are making 11,000 a year or less, and are hovering right over the poverty
line. Lower income single women tend to get pregnant more than middle class single women. The
reason is that lower income single women have less self esteem about their self. The reason for some
women to have abortion is the responsibilities of parenthood and family life. Non Hispanic white
women account for 36 percent of abortions, non Hispanic black women for 30 percent Hispanic
women for 25 percent and women of other races for 9 percent. (

Abortion has become a growing trend among the youth in the 20th century. About a quarter of all
teenage pregnancies in the U.S. end in abortion. Teens make choice to have an abortion because of the
worries about the baby distracting them from future goals and education. A teen considering an

Freud s Theory Of Freud
Freud was one of the most significant influences in the twentieth century for psychology. He founded
and was later known as the father of psychoanalysis, it was used in treating people with mental
illnesses. Most people know psychoanalysis as the therapy/talking remedy. He would sit his patients
down and talk openly about their different emotions and problems they were currently facing. One of
Freud s cases in particular was brought to people s attention. The case of Anna O the girls real name
was Bertha, however this case was very important for Freud because it was basically what essentially
started his career. The girl he called Anna suffered from hysteria, which is a condition in which the
patient exhibits physical symptoms (e.g. paralysis, convulsions, hallucinations, loss of speech) without

In more depth and better understanding of Freud s theory was that he believed the mind is made up of
two main parts, the conscious and unconscious mind. The conscious are all things that come together
in our minds without effort. However, the unconscious mind involves all the things that are external to
our awareness, like our hopes, dreams, wishes and worries. These things are outside of our awareness
but they still continue to impact on the way we act and the things we may say. Freud compared the
mind to an iceberg. The tip of the iceberg that is actually visible above the water represents just a tiny
portion of the mind, while the huge expanse of ice hidden underneath the water represents the much
larger unconscious. (Cherry K 2013) Freud believed some events were so hard emotionally for some
of the people to recognize that they put those awful thoughts in their unconscious mind. Freud used a
relaxing environment when seeing his patients; he would put them almost in a deep relaxed state. The
reason for this was to get the patients to reveal

from it. The motif of sight , is what introduces Paul to the universal statement of truth and makes him
aware of what the people surrounding him can and cannot see . Paul Fisher, the main character, uses
the motif of sight to have a new understanding of his friends, family, and himself. To begin, the move
from Texas to Tangerine Florida introduces new friends into Paul s life, which tags along clarity,

Ethnic Identity
To solve this identity crisis, I believe all ethnic groups should stick to their roots and embrace their
unique culture to create a mosaic society. Similar to a mosaic that uses many different colored glasses
to create a beautiful piece of art, people should value and appreciate their differences from others.
Instead of being submissive and following American societal norms, cultures should strive to build
cultural, political, social, and economic communities that appreciate and emphasize the richness of
their own individual cultures and realize that trying to educate racist people is not the best use of our
energy. As a result, everyone can come together to create a unified mosaic. Amy Tan s essay titled,
Mother Tongue describes the idea that we all speak different languages unconsciously and that we are
categorized by the way we speak. Tan describes her life with her mother in America and how her
mother s limited English had an influence on her life. For example, Tan s mother once said, Why he
don t send me check, already two weeks late. So, mad he lie to me, losing me money (Tan, 365). For
Tan, her mother s way of speaking English is an intimate language used only among her family. I
believe Americans view this type of language as poor because they cannot appreciate the level of
intimacy in it; however, Americans do not realize is that many use this type of intimate language when
communicating with babies in gurgles, cooing, and indistinguishable noises. The

Hegel Sense And Certaintyity
Hegel s discussion and refutation of sense certainty is the beginning of his discussion of consciousness
in the Phenomenology of Spirit. From this discussion, he lays the groundwork from which he reaches
absolute knowledge. In this essay, I will focus on Hegel s discussion of sense certainty. Following a
brief summary of my interpretation of sense certainty, this essay will mainly focus on paragraph 91 in
which Hegel acknowledges the attributes and deficiencies of sense certainty. Since the paragraph itself
is too long to quote and analyze, I will choose a few key quotes from the paragraph to discuss in
detail. Further, since this is the beginning of sense certainty and the claims he makes regarding sense
certainty will later be refuted, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also the case that I am certain of this item not for the reason that the item of which I am certain
would exist in terms of a rich relation of diverse states in itself, or because it would be related in
multifarious ways to others. Both have nothing to do with the truth of sense certainty; in that certainty,
neither I nor the item mean a manifold of mediation ; I does not mean a manifold of diverse activities
of representing and thinking, nor does the item mean a manifold of diverse states ; rather, the item is,
and it is merely because it is (Pinkard 2010). Hegel further continues his criticism of the objects of
sense certainty in these sentences. Since the consciousness can t, according to sense certainty,
comprehend and use its mental capacity to conceptualize the object, its is limited to mere being as it
is. This being as it is stems from apprehension which allows the subject to apply universals to objects
of sense certainty. This application of universals blends one object with others since universals can be
applicable to other things as well. Therefore, a person is only aware of an empty universal according
to Hegel who concluded that this is one of the major faults of sense certainty. Sense certainty fails in
this regard because apprehension does not transcend the universal...which does not

The Glass Menagerie, Their Eyes Were Watching God, And My...
In the books Candide, The Glass Menagerie, Their Eyes were Watching God, and My Name is Asher
Lev written by Voltaire, Tennessee Williams, Zora Neale Hurston, and Chaim Potok, they are all
discernibly different stories, yet they all appear to share the common theme of perseverance in varying
degrees to find that happiness is not always awaiting them. I have found that the various symbolic
language combined with each author s different style of writing not only makes each story unique, but
they also affect each reader s perceptions.
When I had finished reading each book once, each story appeared to have such contrasting meanings.
For example, Candide initially gave me the impression that his innocence dwindles consistently as he
experiences countless people who have suffered outrageous hardships, deceptions, and the people who
dole out these miseries. The Glass Menagerie was a bit complex to understand because I was not
accustomed to reading books in play format, but I thought that it was trying to establish the mother s
relationship with her children. I could relate to this due to the fact that being a teenager along with my
brother, we have disagreements on almost everything and what mothers may want best for their
children. Also, Amanda mother to Laura and Tom tries her best to instill values she thinks is essential
in Laura s gentleman caller and Tom due to her horrid experience with her husband who gave up his

Worldview Of The Bhagavad Gita
The Bhagavad Gita looks at the purpose of life in their own unique way. Cycles of human life can be
perceived on varying levels, dependent on your religion and beliefs. When considering the Hindu
beliefs, their worldviews can be described as the actions you enforce here on earth, motivated by
either desire or duty. When living in a world dominated by personal inclinations, it is easy to fall into
the temptations of selfish desire. Krishna radiates his concerns of exactly this in the form of
apprehension, keeping his people s best interests in mind. Due to the Hindu belief of reincarnation, the
pressures of enforcing your actions through duty, not desire, is essential to restoring your karma .
Regardless the worldview each religion holds, I understand that everyone s common goal is joy in
some form. In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna establishes the worldview of Hinduism, while allowing for
explanation of worldly desire and the cycle of life.
Each religion provides a quite hopeful ambiance. Hinduism in particular, allows for a guideline to all
who will listen about eternal hope. Every being is faced with the choice of action, either by duty or
desire. Krishna is yearning to voice to humanity that if our actions are inclined by any form of desire,
it will cloud our understanding and only result in deeper, endless indulgences. This temptation of
earthly desires can be controlled by the essence of self control, eventually leading to tranquility and
joy. Although humanly urges may

Living with an open mind also helps me be more creative. It lets me look at the world around me with
fresh eyes, and it helps me gain confidence in myself and my own ideas. It is important to recognize
my own weaknesses in order to improve upon them and know where I stand with any competitors. My
main weaknesses are my communication skills and falling into the habit of procrastination.
Communication, particularly with a large group of people, is sometimes difficult for me. I find it hard
to speak up and be confident, and to network and find my place within the academic community.
Going forward, I am trying to improve my interview and public speaking skills in order to combat this
weakness. Another weakness that I have is that I become distracted easily, while at the same time I am
a perfectionist. This leads to a great deal of procrastination and issues with time management.
Although I am dedicated to my education, factors such as commitments to friends and family and
occasional lack of motivation keep me off track and lead to procrastination. Having weaknesses is
something that can be harmful when competing with others. However, having weaknesses is
inevitable, so it is important for me to identify and deal with them instead of avoiding them.

threats are negative trends (239). Throughout the past few years, I have faced threats that

Theme Of Goodnight Mist Tom
Introduction
William Beech is the protagonist, the main character, in the plot of Michelle Magorian s Goodnight
Mister Tom. A plot is the course of action in a literary work. He is evacuated from London during the
merge of World War II to a little village, Little Weirwold, at the country side north of the city.
As he arrives he is just an unloved, shy, uncared for and abused 8 year old boy. But as time goes by in
Little Weirwold, William transforms into a self confident, happy boy.
As community is an important theme of the book, one could trace that the two contrasting settings
influence Will s development. A theme is the underlying interpretation of the literary work.

that Will is developing as he lives in Little Weirwold, mainly because of the camaraderie the mutual

The whole community is taking one for the team as many of the residents take in evacuees. Everyone

citizens are supportive and assist Tom in helping William to settle down in Little Weirwold. They are

When they were welcoming the evacuees into Little Weirwold, the children invited Will to a picnic.
When everyone was reasonably settled, Mr. Peters stood in front of the congregation and clasped his

The Book Of Mormon Essay
Origin:
In 1823 a man from New York named Joseph Smith was visited by an angel called Moroni. Moroni
was assumed to be the son of Mormon and told Joseph to go find the golden plates that were buried
somewhere near where he lived. Four years later in 1827, Joseph Smith finally found the sacred plates
and when he did Moroni told him that he needed to start to translate them. It took Joseph three years to
transcribe the plates and when he finished he named the book, The Book of Mormon. In this book it
tells us what happened during the period of 600 B.C. to around 400 A.D., and how the Jews came to
America after they left Jerusalem. After the Jews arrived at America they separated into two different
groups, the Nephites and the Lamanites. The Nephites and the Lamanites fought each other and in 428
A.D. the Lamanites won. After the Nephites were defeated the Lamanites continued to stay in America
and we know them today as American Indians. The Book of Mormon however, does not focus on the

Jeannette Walls Cooking
When I read Jeannette Walls literature regarding her cooking at such a young age, I was appalled. She
was the age of three and cooking with open flames. She could feel the heat rising from the boiling
water which engulfed her hot dogs. While she was cooking, she could smell the boiling water that
surrounded the hot dogs flaring up. She sensed the abnormally hot air in her nose as she breathed in
the warmness. Personally, I can t imagine being only three years old and cooking. First of all, why is
she cooking while her parents aren t watching? I could hear Mom in the next room singing while she

use a stove. A big reason for this is evident when the author says, I was still standing on the chair,

not taught the proper way to fight a fire. Instead of the stop drop and roll method we were all taught,
she swats at the fire with a fork in panic. By swatting at the fire, she hoped the fork would damage the
entity that surrounded her and put an end to the pain. She was feeling the moisture from her skin being
drawn out from her. She smelt her dress being burned right off her as well as the fire on her bare skin
bubbling up and filling the room. In her head, she could hear the screams she wanted to say
immediately, but did not have the words ready. At the time, she could taste her saliva building up
tremendously as the fire retained its fearsome

India s Industrial Development
Industrial Development Since Independence. 1. The British regarded India as source of supply of raw
materials and market for British manufacturers and hence, at the time of Independence, India was
industrially an underdeveloped economy. 2. The poor industrial sector was domintaed by consumer
goods industries like cotton textile, jute, sugar, salt, paper, soap, etc. 3. Industries producing
intermediate goods like steel, coal, cement, alcohol, power, non ferrous metals were poorly established
in terms of productive capacity. 4. Capital goods industries hardly made their presence felt. 5. In the
post independence period, India embarked upon industrial development under the five year plans

Pride In Shakespeare s Othello
As Toba Beta once said, Pride is the mother of arrogance . Pride can cause anyone to overvalue
themselves and lose sight of the truth. In Othello s case, his pride puts himself on a pedestal. When
Iago challenges this by suggesting that Desdemona cheats on him, he slowly loses his confidence and
becomes weak and insecure. Iago vaguely warns him to not become jealous of Cassio, and Othello s
fragile ego once again causes him to let his mind get the best of him. In Shakespeare s Othello,
Othello s pride leads to his downfall in order to show that too much confidence eventually leads to
emotional self destruction. In the beginning acts, Othello is depicted as a very strong and confident
man. When Iago reveals to Othello that Brabantio is angry about his relationship with Desdemona,
Othello continues to be confident and believe that he belongs with Desdemona. Othello shows his
confidence by saying that his [...] parts, my title, and my perfect soul / Shall manifest me rightly
(I.ii.36 37). This shows that Othello has the strength to continue fighting for Desdemona, although her
father does not support the relationship. Othello s pride causes him to believe that because of his legal
status and positive personality, Brabantio will accept him as Desdemona s partner. Although he is
incorrect, his theory proves that he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Othello is strong and confident, yet allows Iago s lies to destroy him. Throughout the play, Othello s
pride and self esteem slowly diminishes because he let Iago get the best of him. Telling Othello that
Desdemona is cheating on him causes him to become insecure because he does not want to lose his
dignity. Othello s self destruction was caused by his loss of pride as the acts go on. Pride causes
people to believe they are superior, so and when something negative happens it sets them off track. It
is important to not let pride get in the way of everyday situations as it did for

Willy Loman In Death Of A Salesman By Arthur Miller
Willy Loman is the main character, who struggles to differentiate between idealism and reality
situations among the events occurred through his time as a salesman. Throughout the play Death of a
Salesman, Miller portraits Willy as a well known salesman in Boston as the New England man yet, in
reality Willy appears to be merely a salesman in a firm. The play suggests Mr. Loman desires his
oldest son, Biff Loman, to become an ideal successful salesman, He could be big in no time yet Biff is
a farm worker traveling to harvest with low pay (Miller Act Ⅰ:1559). Willy persona interacts with Biff
intense arguments about Biff s life choices, though Willy contains a deep affection for Biff and wants
the best for him. Linda Loman is the ideal 1940s housewife, she loves her husband and takes care of
him. Mrs. Loman is constantly worried about her husband and tries to maintain the family together to
create the ideal household. She attempts to encourage Biff to reconnect with Willy by showing his
love and be kind to him, to affix their relationship as father and son as opposed to arguing every
encounter between them (Miller Act Ⅱ:1588). Linda s personality of kindness shows the strong
feminism of a mother to keep their family together, although her family is not as perfect as she
believes herself. Biff Loman is the oldest son of Willy and Linda Loman, farm worker, and the realist
character in the play. When Biff flunked math and went to visit his father in Boston, he

Social Medi The Truth
Social Media The Truth Social Media is a hotly debated topic in modern times. On one side, people
say that it can help spread information quickly, or help catch criminals, but on the other, people often
claim that they can be dangerous and that they lack privacy. The truth of the matter is, Social
Networks should be banned, especially for children. Social Media destroys the basic human ability to
interact with others. This is supported by the quote, Communication is constantly evolving. Some
people are as used to seeing their friends online avatar as they are their face, said Yazino founder
Hussein Chahine in The Telegraph. This shows how addicted people have become to Social
Networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. This is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Future generations, this one included, will only spend more and more time on sites like these. Some
people would say that Social Media helps catch and prosecute criminals, but the few times in which
this does happen is heavily outweighed by the amount of privacy of which they lack, and the fact that
they often expose users to government and corporate intrusions. A 2012 survey found that 13 million
Facebook users said that they had not set or known about the site s privacy settings, and another 28%
shared all, or nearly all, of their posts publicly. Facebook is infamous for its lack of security, how it
forces users to stay on and use their site and secretly tracks them. They often make privacy settings
hard to find. Most, if not all, of their users would rather keep their info private, but Facebook and
other Social Networking sites often make that a hard thing to do. Another report declared that the US
Justice Department intercepted 1,661 pieces of information from social networking sites and emails in
2011. With many social media sites being money focused, they often sell their user s information to
shady organizations. These sites expose their users too much and too often. This is further supported
by the fact that the 2009 IRS training manual teaches agents to scan Facebook pages for information
that might assist in resolving a taxpayer case. Organizations such as this one now even promote social
media stalking . It s immensely difficult to stay and feel safe on

Video Games Cause Violence Research Paper
Video Games Cause Violence?
In this age of technology, it s very safe to say that a large majority of the world s population has
played at least one video game. This can vary from playing games on console, like Xbox One,
Playstation 4, and for the older generation, the NES to playing mobile games like Tetris. There are
many consoles that span from the creation of video games. This has opened opportunities to make
several kind of games. These can vary from side scrollers like Super Mario Bros. on the NES, to Role
playing games (RPG) like Final Fantasy IX on the Playstation 1. While this has caused some great
games to surface, it has also allowed intense violence to be let into games. Parents and anti gaming
communities state that this is why kids can become violent. This is false, because violent games can
be avoided to prevent this issue, and the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) has even made
various precautions to make sure parents know what they re purchasing. Comprehensible symbols,
detailed lists, and age restrictions prevents children from becoming violent .
To begin, the ESRB has released a full list of comprehensible symbols. For example, if you re looking
for a violent game, chances are that game is rated M for mature. However, if you re looking for a
game with little to no violence, you ll more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

only will they not be as effective as ESRB, but one can almost guarantee that the new company would
run into the same problems ESRB does. Providing quick glances at rating symbols and giving detailed

Phonological Development Of Native Japanese Speakers Essay
Abstract
The current study looked at the phonological development of native Japanese speakers who speak
English as a second language. Two subjects were given a word list of English words to read from and
recorded. The recordings were then analyzed based on their divergence from English phonology. The
recordings were also shown to native English speakers to rate the foreign accent of the subjects. The
current study was conducted under the hypothesis that the speakers L1 would interfere with the
phonological development in their L2, and looked at other factors such as speakers attitude and
differences in natural ability.
Keywords: Japanese, English, Second Language Acquisition, Phonological Development
1. Introduction
Second language learners who begin to acquire a language later in life are often thought to have more
trouble with learning to pronounce the sounds of their second language than learners who began
second language acquisition early in life. In the Contrastive Analysis Hypothesis (CAH), the errors in
pronunciation are the result of transfer from the speaker s native language (L1) to their second
language (L2). However, other factors can account for the troubles second language learners encounter
in their pronunciation. Factors such as the positive or negative attitude towards the target language as
well as phonological memory can influence how well a learner acquires a language. As well,
perception of the sounds of the target language and the native

Navale College of Engineering nsmore@sinhgad.edu Abstract Since the rapid growth of the cloud
computing, data collection and information sharing are led to a higher level and are replacing the
traditional computation. Several technologies using cloud in all areas are developing to adapt the
revolution of information technology and one of them is cloud gaming. The study explains what cloud
gaming is, and look at some detail of its overview and general architecture. After that , ways to assess
and minimize the latency issues arising in the on demand gaming environment are studied. Through a
large scale measurement study that the current cloud computing infrastructure is unable to meet the
strict latency requirements necessary for acceptable game play for many end users, thus limiting the
number of potential users for an on demand gaming service is studied. Further our study investigates
the impact of augmenting the current cloud infrastructure with servers located near the end users, such
as those found in content distribution networks, and show that the user coverage significantly
increases even with the addition of only a small number of servers. Finally, the paper concludes that

Comparing Beowulf To The Greek Culture
Greek literature portrays many great heroes with many different traits and values. I would like to
compare the Anglo Saxon culture represented by Beowulf to the Greek culture portrayed by Achilles.
Both men show many values, but they seem to show those values with different traits. These stories
have different battles between the heroes and their enemies, this makes a big difference in the
response of these men. Beowulf shows great bravery towards his enemies and problems placed in
front of him. He also likes to help other people such as Hrothgar without any expected reimbursement.
Beowulf States My people have said, the wisest, most knowing and best of them, that my duty was to
go to the Danes Great king (Beowulf 149 151). This shows Beowulf does not expect anything for his
good deed. He simply dose what he is told, with great bravery and a good plan. ... Show more content

Where Beowulf Fights for others and keeps a calm and collective mind he doesn t let emotion effect
his decisions. Achilles is more self centered; he doses wish to avenge his cousin s death he lets
emotion get in the way of the correct decision. This is described with the quote, I must reject this life,
my heart tells me, reject the world of men, if Hector does not feel my battering spear tear the life out
of him, making him pay in his own blood for the slaughter of Patroclus (The Iliad 26 30). This
statement alone represents Achilles passion for revenge. Also how he allows his anger the drive his
decisions. In the Excerpt after line 71 in the Iliad it states Achilles chases Hector around the walls of
his Kingdome three times just to avenge Patroclus. This is a large amount a bravery Achilles shows by
facing death to defile his best man s killer. This is a clear similarity of great bravery by both heroes.
Both men great heroes in Greek literature but Achilles has more modern day view on who is most

The 1970s was an eventful decade. Many people fought for equality and peace. 1970s fashion wasn t

looks of them showed people s personality and who they are too. The 70s was diverse in style,
makeup, hair, and changed over the years. In the 1970s fashion was multifarious. The main styles
were hippie, bohemian, sporty chic, disco, and a little bit of punk. Hippie style originated in the 60s,
but the style really blossomed in the 70s. Hippies loved the colorful, simple, expressive designs

popular style of the 70s was bohemian. The boho look was relaxed and carefree. Almost everything

Case Study Of Saint Chinian
Saint Chinian, a vineyard you must visit
Talking about vineyards and one of the first names that comes to my mind is of Saint Chinian, a small
and beautiful village located in South France. It has a dry and Mediterranean climate which is best
suited for vineyards. It boasts of some of the most famous vineyards and even has a famous wine
named after it, called the Saint Chinian wine which is produced from here only. The vines that are
planted on the slopes of the hills surrounding this exotic place produce some of the very high quality
wines you would find in the entire world. Saint Chinian is known mainly for its roses, and the unusual
whites. The maximum numbers of the vines planted are of reds and roses which are called Grenache,
Syrah, and Mouvedre. The rest is white and are named Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne
Carignan, Clairette, Viognier, Bourboulenc, and more. Here s a bit on the different varieties of the
Mediterranean wine.
Grenache Noir produces wines with aromatics of raspberry red fruits and mixed spice with rounded
tannins.
Syrah produces wines with intense aromatics of blackberry fruits, pepper spice and violets, and gives
great color and structure.
Mourvèdre loves the heat and produces full bodied wines with intense tannins, peppery spice
aromatics blackberry fruit aromatics.

Reasons for Popularity of Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Vampire stories have been told for hundreds of years, and like all things, they have evolved with time.
As technology has moved forward so did the stories, and vampire films soon became popular. These
stories have recently moved onto the small screen, the most popular of which, a modern adaptation of
the tradition vampire myth called Buffy the Vampire Slayer . This popular programme has a massive
following here in the UK and also overseas and is now in its 7th series of programmes and has been

The woman turns into a green hideous monster and kills that boy. This is very rare for a vampire tale
as traditionally vampires did not look like monsters and also they only attacked defenseless females.
The episode starts properly when Buffy Summers, a 16 year old girl moves to Sunnydale, from LA
with her mother. This is not the setting that we would expect for a vampire story as the word
Sunnydale hardly paints a picture of a dark, scary place full of vampires. Therefore, this name
subverts the traditional signifier s. On the first day of school, Cordelia, the popular girl inducts Buffy
into the cool crowd despite this Buffy attempts to be friends with three other students, Xander, Willow
and Jesse. This gesture shows us that Buffy is a good judge of character, strong minded and that she is
a leader not a follower.
Buffy goes to the school library to get some text books. The library, although a more unusual setting
was much more like something from a vampire story, it was dark and empty. To add tension the
producers used scary disjointed music to try and set the scene and the camera moves in onto a
newspaper article, to which you can read the headline which refers to a missing teenage boy. This
article casts a question mark over the normal nice

The Battle Of The Diamond Ring

extremely important question. As long as we can remember, this has been a tradition; from our parents

generation or newly bought putting your own little touch on it. Engagement rings have been in our
history for as long as anyone can remember, but the diamond ring is something no one can forget and
its history is even more memorable. Originally, the ancient Greeks and Romans were the first to have
engagement rings. However, the engagement rings they used did not include diamonds they included a

After Rhode s time as a prime minister, he went to South Africa in pursuit of riches and gold. He got
his start by renting equipment to miners to pump out the floodwater that had destroyed their claims.
Saving up his money from his business, he bought his own claims which progressed to more, slowly
beginning an incredible monopoly (Raden 36). Over time, more diamonds and diamond mines started
emerging all over South Africa. Rhodes knew that if this continued, diamonds would lose their value
and become worthless. The reason this would be is because the more supply of diamonds that were
available the lower the demand would be on them since there would be such a large quantity. In 1888,
Rhodes found a solution to this problem: if diamonds were not rare then he would just need to
convince the consumers that they are. De Beers did this by controlling not only the price of diamonds
but was also able to control the supply, which impacted the demand for diamond rings (Otens and
Scott 35). By 1890, De Beers owned all the mines in South Africa and only let out diamonds as it
pleased. In 1902, Rhodes died and the new owner became Ernest Oppenheimer (Raden 39).
Oppenheimer had some trouble while he was in leadership from almost losing the company to losing
some of the profit from other competitors. By the 1930s De Beers had complete control over the
diamond industry. As stated from Eugene Fram and Robert Baron DeBeers has been

  • 2. Brute Force Research Paper Weak passwords are responsible for 76% of data breaches (Keeper Security Whitepaper). Cyber criminals have become much more sophisticated in the past few years at breaking passwords. Two major types of cracking methods are used: brute force and dictionary attacks. Brute force is a trial and error method used by application programs to decode data such as passwords or Data Encryption Standards keys, through exhaustive effort , thus the term brute force. It is similar to a thief trying multiple combinations to crack a safe. Dictionary attacks use large dictionaries, sometimes containing millions of words, to defeat passwords. This technique has been enhanced by the number of accounts that have been compromised in the past few years. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Our Knowledge Of Living Things Increases Essay As our knowledge of living things increases, as we come to a deeper understanding of their life cycles, their interactions with other organisms, and the manifold ways in which they adjust to the environment, we become more fully aware of how each of them is carrying out its biological functions according to the laws of its species specific nature. But besides this, our increasing knowledge and understanding also develop in us a sharpened awareness of the uniqueness of each individual organism. Scientists who have made careful studies of particular plants and animals, whether in the field or in laboratories, have often acquired a knowledge of their subjects as identifiable individuals. Close observation over extended periods of time has led them to an appreciation of the unique personalities of their subjects. Sometimes a scientist may come to take a special interest in a particular animal or plant, all the while remaining strictly objective in the gathering and recording of data. Nonscientists may likewise experience this development of interest when, as amateur naturalists, they make accurate observations over sustained periods of close acquaintance with an individual organism. As one becomes more and more familiar with the organism and its behavior, one becomes fully sensitive to the particular way it is living out its life cycle. One may become fascinated by it and even experience some involvement with its good and bad fortunes (that is, with the occurrence of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The people of Pompeii used graffiti as a way to display their cleverness; from poetry contests to playful recombinations of the letters that form Roman Numerals. In the early 70s, graffiti was used as a way for young teens to mark their territory. During that time, many people especially in New York City saw graffiti as vandalism and prohibited it. Even though graffiti has been misused in some occasions, as long as the purpose is not to deliberately mischievous or malicious destruction, graffiti is art. This example shows the power of graffiti. It can change a whole city, and dissolve many of the current problems. The graffiti has given Bogota a fairly poor city new life and colorful walls around the whole city. It has also given Bogota freedom to communicate, meaning that the graffiti helps spread ideas and can help people through hard times. However, even though graffiti is portrayed as art by many people, some people think that all kinds of graffiti is vandalism. They think that it is a dirty way to destroy a city, and a bad influence to young adults and children growing up. In the article Vandals hit 18 statues in Grant Park with graffiti by Carlos Sadovi, public buildings had been covered and nearly destroyed with tags by young teenages. When Sandovi says, People, especially children, like to go up to the statues and pose with them for pictures and touch them. He said this is the first time they have been vandalized here. In this case, the children of the city will have to suffer through. People can also argue that the graffiti is a bad influence for the children. • 7. Saving And Planning For The Future Saving and planning for the future is an important task that every individual should plan for. However, many times individuals feel overwhelmed and are anxious about how it is possible to survive and plan for the future. The Bible gives us good insight into how we should plan and manage our finances that pleases the Lord. 2 Corinthians 9:6 states [w]hoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously (ESV). It is possible to save for the future while at the same time pleasing the Lord. For those who love the Lord and live by his directions knows that God is a God of plans. Jeremiah tells us For I know the plans that I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and hope (Jeremiah 29:11, NASV). Concerning long term finance, there is one story, in particular, the story of Joseph the King of Dreams. In this story, God gave two prisoners a dream and gave Joseph the ability to interpret them. That revelation of the dreams came to pass and in time, Pharaoh had a dream. The news came to him of Joseph s ability to interpret the dream, and he sent for Joseph. The dream was that there would be seven years of good and plenty, followed by seven years of famine and destitution. Upon this revelation, Pharaoh made Joseph ruler over the house and land. • 11. The Pros And Cons Of The Pharmaceutical Industry Nowadays it seems like legal drugs are more expensive than illegal ones. This dilemma occurs because the pharmaceutical industry affects the economy significantly. Although the United States is a mixed market economy, there are instances where the economy seems like a free market economy. A free market economy allows companies to determine the prices of goods free from government intervention. The pharmaceutical industry, despite several regulations set by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is a free market economy. According to Paul Antony, DTCA aids consumers because it helps them recognize symptoms and their increases communication between doctors and patients. He states that consumers that advertisements empower them to seek out their doctor (para 3,10). However, advertisements are often emotional and misleading. This type of advertisements causes patients to urge their doctors to prescribe them a specialty drug because they notice they have a symptom. Doctors then would have to comply which can end up being more harmful to the patient. Another argument is that pharmaceuticals make little profit because new drugs cost so much to develop. Derek Lowe, a chemist, states that Expenses [are] doing nothing but rising, and the success rate for drug discovery [is] going in the other direction (para 5). By his quote, Lowe means that the development of a drug outweighs the cost of the drug, resulting in little profit. However, this case is on drugs that failed in the market. Drugs that are long past development have the prices gouged for more profit. Therefore the government should regulate the pharmaceutical industry because the industry is harmful towards the economy and patients. The government can achieve this by enabling a cap on prices of specialty drugs and ensuring DCTA is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Abortion is wrong and cruel there are many positive options to make before taking that plan of action. There have been an increasing number of abortion cases throughout the United States. Nearly 70 percent of abortions are for women who are making 11,000 a year or less, and are hovering right over the poverty line. Lower income single women tend to get pregnant more than middle class single women. The reason is that lower income single women have less self esteem about their self. The reason for some women to have abortion is the responsibilities of parenthood and family life. The conscious are all things that come together in our minds without effort. However, the unconscious mind involves all the things that are external to our awareness, like our hopes, dreams, wishes and worries. These things are outside of our awareness but they still continue to impact on the way we act and the things we may say. Freud compared the mind to an iceberg. The tip of the iceberg that is actually visible above the water represents just a tiny portion of the mind, while the huge expanse of ice hidden underneath the water represents the much larger unconscious. (Cherry K 2013) Freud believed some events were so hard emotionally for some of the people to recognize that they put those awful thoughts in their unconscious mind. Similar to a mosaic that uses many different colored glasses to create a beautiful piece of art, people should value and appreciate their differences from others. Instead of being submissive and following American societal norms, cultures should strive to build cultural, political, social, and economic communities that appreciate and emphasize the richness of their own individual cultures and realize that trying to educate racist people is not the best use of our energy. As a result, everyone can come together to create a unified mosaic. Amy Tan s essay titled, Mother Tongue describes the idea that we all speak different languages unconsciously and that we are categorized by the way we speak. Tan describes her life with her mother in America and how her mother s limited English had an influence on her life. For example, Tan s mother once said, Why he don t send me check, already two weeks late. So, mad he lie to me, losing me money (Tan, 365). For Tan, her mother s way of speaking English is an intimate language used only among her family. From this discussion, he lays the groundwork from which he reaches absolute knowledge. In this essay, I will focus on Hegel s discussion of sense certainty. Following a brief summary of my interpretation of sense certainty, this essay will mainly focus on paragraph 91 in which Hegel acknowledges the attributes and deficiencies of sense certainty. Hegel further continues his criticism of the objects of sense certainty in these sentences. Since the consciousness can t, according to sense certainty, comprehend and use its mental capacity to conceptualize the object, its is limited to mere being as it is. This being as it is stems from apprehension which allows the subject to apply universals to objects of sense certainty. In the books Candide, The Glass Menagerie, Their Eyes were Watching God, and My Name is Asher Lev written by Voltaire, Tennessee Williams, Zora Neale Hurston, and Chaim Potok, they are all discernibly different stories, yet they all appear to share the common theme of perseverance in varying degrees to find that happiness is not always awaiting them. I have found that the various symbolic language combined with each author s different style of writing not only makes each story unique, but they also affect each reader s perceptions. When I had finished reading each book once, each story appeared to have such contrasting meanings. For example, Candide initially gave me the impression that his innocence dwindles consistently as he experiences countless people who have suffered outrageous hardships, deceptions, and the people who dole out these miseries. The Glass Menagerie was a bit complex to understand because I was not accustomed to reading books in play format, but I thought that it was trying to establish the mother s relationship with her children. Cycles of human life can be perceived on varying levels, dependent on your religion and beliefs. When considering the Hindu beliefs, their worldviews can be described as the actions you enforce here on earth, motivated by either desire or duty. When living in a world dominated by personal inclinations, it is easy to fall into the temptations of selfish desire. Krishna radiates his concerns of exactly this in the form of apprehension, keeping his people s best interests in mind. Due to the Hindu belief of reincarnation, the pressures of enforcing your actions through duty, not desire, is essential to restoring your karma . Regardless the worldview each religion holds, I understand that everyone s common goal is joy in some form. In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna establishes the worldview of Hinduism, while allowing for explanation of worldly desire and the cycle of life. Each religion provides a quite hopeful ambiance. Hinduism in particular, allows for a guideline to all who will listen about eternal hope. Every being is faced with the choice of action, either by duty or desire. Krishna is yearning to voice to humanity that if our actions are inclined by any form of desire, it will cloud our understanding and only result in deeper, endless indulgences. • 22. The Book Of Mormon Essay Origin: In 1823 a man from New York named Joseph Smith was visited by an angel called Moroni. Moroni was assumed to be the son of Mormon and told Joseph to go find the golden plates that were buried somewhere near where he lived. Four years later in 1827, Joseph Smith finally found the sacred plates and when he did Moroni told him that he needed to start to translate them. It took Joseph three years to transcribe the plates and when he finished he named the book, The Book of Mormon. In this book it tells us what happened during the period of 600 B.C. to around 400 A.D., and how the Jews came to America after they left Jerusalem. After the Jews arrived at America they separated into two different groups, the Nephites and the Lamanites. The Nephites and the Lamanites fought each other and in 428 A.D. the Lamanites won. After the Nephites were defeated the Lamanites continued to stay in America and we know them today as American Indians. The Book of Mormon however, does not focus on the ... She could feel the heat rising from the boiling water which engulfed her hot dogs. While she was cooking, she could smell the boiling water that surrounded the hot dogs flaring up. She sensed the abnormally hot air in her nose as she breathed in the warmness. Personally, I can t imagine being only three years old and cooking. The responsibilities of this three year old are unheard of compared to today s standards for raising a child. I would never, under any circumstances, let my three year old daughter use a stove. A big reason for this is evident when the author says, I was still standing on the chair, swatting at the fire with the fork I had been using to stir the hot dogs (Walls 5). First of all, she was not taught the proper way to fight a fire. Instead of the stop drop and roll method we were all taught, she swats at the fire with a fork in panic. By swatting at the fire, she hoped the fork would damage the entity that surrounded her and put an end to the pain. She was feeling the moisture from her skin being drawn out from her. She smelt her dress being burned right off her as well as the fire on her bare skin bubbling up and filling the room. • 25. Pride In Shakespeare s Othello As Toba Beta once said, Pride is the mother of arrogance . Pride can cause anyone to overvalue themselves and lose sight of the truth. In Othello s case, his pride puts himself on a pedestal. When Iago challenges this by suggesting that Desdemona cheats on him, he slowly loses his confidence and becomes weak and insecure. Iago vaguely warns him to not become jealous of Cassio, and Othello s fragile ego once again causes him to let his mind get the best of him. In Shakespeare s Othello, Othello s pride leads to his downfall in order to show that too much confidence eventually leads to emotional self destruction. Some people would say that Social Media helps catch and prosecute criminals, but the few times in which this does happen is heavily outweighed by the amount of privacy of which they lack, and the fact that they often expose users to government and corporate intrusions. A 2012 survey found that 13 million Facebook users said that they had not set or known about the site s privacy settings, and another 28% shared all, or nearly all, of their posts publicly. Facebook is infamous for its lack of security, how it forces users to stay on and use their site and secretly tracks them. They often make privacy settings hard to find. Most, if not all, of their users would rather keep their info private, but Facebook and other Social Networking sites often make that a hard thing to do. Another report declared that the US Justice Department intercepted 1,661 pieces of information from social networking sites and emails in 2011. With many social media sites being money focused, they often sell their user s information to shady organizations. These sites expose their users too much and too often. The recordings were also shown to native English speakers to rate the foreign accent of the subjects. In the Contrastive Analysis Hypothesis (CAH), the errors in pronunciation are the result of transfer from the speaker s native language (L1) to their second language (L2). After Rhode s time as a prime minister, he went to South Africa in pursuit of riches and gold. He got his start by renting equipment to miners to pump out the floodwater that had destroyed their claims. Saving up his money from his business, he bought his own claims which progressed to more, slowly beginning an incredible monopoly (Raden 36). Over time, more diamonds and diamond mines started emerging all over South Africa. Rhodes knew that if this continued, diamonds would lose their value and become worthless. The reason this would be is because the more supply of diamonds that were available the lower the demand would be on them since there would be such a large quantity. In 1888, Rhodes found a solution to this problem: if diamonds were not rare then he would just need to convince the consumers that they are. De Beers did this by controlling not only the price of diamonds but was also able to control the supply, which impacted the demand for diamond rings (Otens and Scott 35). By 1890, De Beers owned all the mines in South Africa and only let out diamonds as it pleased. In 1902, Rhodes died and the new owner became Ernest Oppenheimer (Raden 39).
