Degree of rivalry among existing firms. Competitive rivalry is organizations with similar products and
services aimed at the same customer group. The degree of rivalry among the competing firms is
affected by a number of factors. These include: * A larger number of firms increase rivalry because
more firms must compete for the same customers and resources. The rivalry intensifies if the firms
have similar market share, leading to a struggle for market leadership. * High fixed costs result in an
economy of scale effect that increases rivalry. When total costs are mostly fixed costs, the firm must
produce near capacity to attain the lowest unit costs * Low levels of product differentiation are
associated with higher levels of rivalry. Brand

Blindspot Stereotypes
These seemingly disparate demographics and, subsequently different portions of NBC s flow are not
as disjointed as they seem at first glance. There remain thematic threads and subtextual audience
assumptions that create coherence and flow as it now functions. The imagery of the jeopardy opening,
in which the camera soars over CGI oceans, islands and San Franciscan monuments, evokes a theme
of travel and adventure that is sustained throughout the portion of the schedule analyzed, which
actually builds off of this same theme created by the slow preceding it, Wheel of Fortune which was
giving out exotic trips as prizes. This sense of adventure establishes a slightly more ambiguous
demographic which can include younger viewers who, for a half hour, live vicariously through the
contestants, getting the same rush when answering questions as the contestants do. This sense of
adventure is upheld in the advertisements as well. The Taltz ad (V) depicts happy consumers enjoying
themselves in the great outdoors under blue skies, and the various car commercials depict their
vehicles offroading in the mountains of a wintry climate, (VI, XIX, XXIX, XXXI). This pandering to
those who would consider themselves adventurous continues into the next program, Blindspot, and its
advertisements. The plot of Blindspot provides a large portion of the feeling of adventure ... Show

Character Analysis Of EuripidesMedea
Inside each of us, there is the seed of both good and evil. It s a constant struggle as to which one will
win. This quote by Eric Burdon sums up what it s like to be a morally ambiguous character, and
Euripides Medea is the perfect example of that. Although Medea seems to be a good woman at heart,
she struggles with her powerful emotions, and when she acts upon her anger, she seems more like a
cold hearted beast. During this play, the audience is pulled back and forth in trying to decide the true
nature of this morally ambiguous character. In the beginning of the story, the audience is led to view
Medea as a heartbroken and helpless woman who was just abandoned by her husband, Jason. Her
nurse points out that Medea s love for Jason was beyond compare, but now that he left her, She lies
without food and gives herself up to suffering,/ Wasting away every moment of the day in tears. (1)
This behavior causes the viewers to pity Medea and automatically think that Jason is the bad guy; their
first impression is that she is a pure woman who does nothing wrong. In spite of that, Medea goes on
to cleverly guilt the king into letting her stay after being exiled: Allow me to remain here just for this
one day,/ So I may consider where to live in my exile,/ And look for support for my children... Have
pity on them! You have children of your own. (12) This tactic exhibits her manipulative and devious
nature, despite being utterly miserable only a few moments ago. During her

Trip To Yosemite Research Paper
Trip to Yosemite When I was in 7th grade, the whole entire grade suggested that we should go on a
camping trip. We had many places to choose from, but we all agreed on going to Yosemite. The reason
we chose Yosemite is because we wanted people to stay away from their video games and electronics
for a couple of days and actually enjoy what beautiful things God had made and what the outside
world has to offer. It was an amazing trip and we did have many unforgettable memories. But one
memory I had was on the second day of the trip, it was the day we started to do activities with our
group leader. We hiked up a waterfall, played some games, and also took lots of pictures. It was a very
tiring day and when we were finally done for the day, It was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Dinner was great and all of us were very full. After dinner, the group leaders told us that we should all
go out to the forest where they had already set up for our last activity of the day. Many people were
excited including myself but it really was not... When we all got there, the leaders told us that they had
already made borders surrounding a part of the forest and that the space within the border was covered
with much less of debris and that they had made it so we knew that we were still within the border and
that we wouldn t get lost. But they still admonished us that make sure to be inside that border at all
times. We each got into pairs and each of us had been given a flashlight. It turns out that we were
going to play hide and seek. Well except it had one difference, it was hide and seek in complete
darkness... A little while later, everyone split up and my friend and I started to search for a good hiding
spot. I suggested that we hide behind a bush but my friend as opinionated as he is, disagreed. My
friend said that it was not a very smart idea and that we should maybe hide behind a tree since the
seeker wouldn t know which tree we were behind. I unwillingly agreed since we didn t

Introduction
The poliomyelitis word is derived from the Greek. It is the effect of poliomyelitis virus on the spinal
cord which leads to paralysis. This virus enters from the person mouth and multiplication occurs in the
area of pharynx and GI tract. Before the onset of illness, this virus present in the throat and the stool.
After the onset it will be less in throat but continuous to excreted more in the stool. By attacking
lymphatic tissue this virus enters to the blood stream and infects the cells of the nervous system. The
severity of disease depends on the site of destruction. Respiratory or brainstem involvement causes
highest morbidity and mortality (Ellen, Banks Skein, 2014).
This purpose of this paper is to discuss about the emergence and eradication. Emergence of the polio
includes the sign and symptoms, causes, spread of the disease, deaths due to the diseases, and
countries affected by this disease. Eradication includes the treatment of the disease, WHO guidelines,
invention of the vaccines, good sanitization, and immunization.

Joseph Paxton s Life And Accomplishments
Joseph Paxton
Joseph Paxton was born in Milton Bryan in Bedfordshire, England on August 3rd 1803, he was the
seventh son of a farmer, grew up in a big family. He was an English architect, gardener and also
known for cultivating Cavendish bananas. 1The first time he introduced in this garden industry was
when we obtained an employment opportunity at Battlesden Park. At the time he was 15 years old,
and was became a garden boy. He switched couple of garden jobs until 1823, where he worked at
Horticultural Society s Chiswick Gardens.2 This was where he met one of the most influential person
in his career, the sixth Duke of Devonshire, who he caught the attention of.
At this stage, Paxton has already somewhat experience, he has constructed a lake. Duke who had great
interest in Paxton and his skills offered him the head gardener s position at Chatsworth. This was one
of the tuning point in Paxton s career. As he was offered a great position but he was also able to meet
his wife, Sarah Brown. 3Which was the housekeeper s niece, she was influential in Paxton s career by
encouraging his husband to undertake many ventures, while she carrying his responsibility in
Chatsworth. By the support of both his wife and Duke, Paxton was to travel many places around
Europe, in Italy, Switzerland and many other countries which widened his eyesight and knowledge.4
These early stage experiences took part in his future designs and aesthetics.

Essay on Shakespeare s Macbeth and Kurosawa s Throne of Blood
Throne of Blood, the 1957 filmed translation of Macbeth by William Shakespeare, was made in Japan,
written in Japanese by Shinobu Hashimoto, Ryuzo Kikushima, Akira Kurosowa and Hideo Oguni and
directed by Akira Kurosawa. It has many times been called an adaptation of Macbeth, however it is
not. As storytellers have done since time began, Kurosawa took a story and made it his own:
translating a play text into another medium; a separate setting; a differing culture in a completely
different style and for a completely contrasting audience.
The film wasn t even intended to be an adaptation of Macbeth. When composing Throne of Blood, the
writing team involved did not even consult Shakespeare s script, as Stuart Galbraith details in ... Show

Shakespeare wrote Macbeth for James I of England, a Scottish King, who was an ancestor of Banquo.
Kurosawa wrote for a contemporary audience of 1950 s Japan, setting his story in a culture that was
known to them, as Shakespeare had done. Similar to the kabuki historical drama or jidai mono, Throne
of Blood bases its story around the warriors and noblemen of the feudal Japan, a worthy equivalent to
Shakespeare s Scottish soldiers and aristocracy of the early middle ages.
In Akira Kurosawa and Intertextual Cinema, James Goodwin says that Kurosawa `demonstrates a
preference for eras of disruption in samurai culture, of massive social upheaval, or of civil war. For
Throne of Blood he had in mind the Sengoko period of civil wars (1467 1568) when there were
frequent incidents of gekokujo, the overthrow of a superior by his own retainers. Kurosawa uses his
setting in a similar way to that of Shakespeare, who uses various examples of imagery concerning the
idea of imbalance: of order and disorder. In Act Two, Scene Four of Macbeth he uses many hints to
tell his audience how chaotic things have become for his characters.

The Effects Of Deep Sea Mining On Earth
David Richardson said Gold and silver like other commodities have an intrinsic value which is not
arbitrary, but is dependent on their scarcity, the quantity of exertion bestowed in procuring them, and
the value of the capital employed in the mines which produce them.
Deep sea mining is a process to retrieve minerals from the ocean floor at a thousand or more of the
surface. Deep sea mining is constituted the largest and least understood biological habitat on Earth and
has become an environmental risk with the impacts of deep sea mining have been enormous and
unavoidable because of the seabed habitat degradation around vast ocean areas, species extinctions,
condensed habitat complexity have become slow and with the insertion of recovery, suspended
sediment plume and toxic plume from the surface of ore dewatering, pelagic ecosystem impacts,
undersea noise, and ore and oil spill in transport. When deep sea mining the primary problem is when
the biological habitats on the Earth with extraordinary adaptions and bizarre organisms is a beauty and
mystery in the world. When the regions are characterized with darkness that is infused with
bioluminescence, with extreme pressure, cold temperatures, high biodiversity with over a million
species and not even half of the million have not been identified, with slow growth and reproductive
rates and with a high sensitivity to the disturbance. By understanding the deep sea of ecosystems with

Essay On Patient Confidentiality
Patient Confidentiality: Ethical Implications to Nursing Practice
Patient Confidentiality: Ethical Implications to Nursing Practice
Patient confidentiality is a fundamental practice in healthcare and it is integral part of healthcare
ethical standards (Purtilo Dougherty, 2010). According to the American Nurses Association (ANA)
code of ethics the nurse has a duty to maintain confidentiality of all patient information (Nursing
world, p.6). Also, when a patient confidentiality is violated the nurse may risk their safety and welfare.
There are a few exceptions to this obligation such as: an increase need to protect the patient and other
parties or mandatory laws that protect public health (Nursing world, ... Show more content on

The first step in this process is gathering all relevant information. Once the healthcare provider is
certain that all pertinent information is evaluated they can determine the type of ethical dilemma. In
this case the ethical dilemma was the choice to maintain or breach patient confidentiality. After
determining the nature of the dilemma it is important to use a theoretical framework to analyze the
issue. The nurse using a utilitarianistic theory would look at all consequences of breaking
confidentiality versus maintaining confidentiality. If the nurse utilizes a deontological approach the
decision is made based on the nurse s duty and responsibility to uphold patient confidentiality. The
nurse would then determine what to do in the situation by looking at all the alternatives. After
determining a course of action the nurse must proceed with the action that is thought to be best. In the
end the nurse should evaluate the outcomes of the decision for future professional development
(Purtilo Dougherty, 2010). A nurse faced with this type of situation may seek advice from the
institution s ethics committee in order to determine the appropriate course of action. An ethics
committee may be composed of clinical personnel as well as non clinical personnel. The committee
most likely has and ethical consultant available as well to guide the decision making process. The role
of an ethics committee in the clinical setting is to provide

Computers and Ethics in the Workplace
Computers and Ethics in the Workplace
Executive Summary This paper discusses issues with ethics that have derived in the workplace as a
result of the use of business computers. The definition of computer ethics is simple; they are a set of
moral principles that intend to help with the regulation of the use of computers. Some common
problems with computer ethics consist of privacy concerns, intellectual property rights, and the way
computers have an effect on people. In other words, computer ethics refers to the ways people take
ethical traditions and test, stretch, apply, negotiate and break in the realm of computer technology. As
technology continues to evolve, there are a great deal of ethical issues and principles of behavior ...

Corporations, management and employees have to be able to keep up with the changing times in order
to be competitive in their profession. The Internet creates an interesting predicament, with many
employees utilizing it at work on a daily. The main concern is whether communication and
information by way of the Internet should be monitored; this concerns both business and personal
communications at work. This issue of employees and the Internet at work is a concern of many
employers and managers, because in most cases it affects productivity. These days some employees
have taken the use of Internet at work to an even more unethical level of viewing explicit content on
work computers and this raises even more red flags for work computers to be monitored and have
restrictions. The United States Congress created the Communications Decency Act of 1996 to help
with regulating pornographic things on the Internet. In 1997, changes were made to the Act and Title
V of the Communications Decency Act affected the Internet and online communications. The most
notorious portions of this Act were the ones that related to unsuitable content online. The significant
part of the Act was initiated in reply to worries that Internet pornography was becoming an issue to
society. If the government could find a way to really enforce inappropriate material on the Internet like
pornography, would definitely help to decrease

Gandhi s Theory Of The Indian Subcontinent s Enslavements
In 1906, a young Mohandas Karmachand Gandhi, carried out his earliest deed of Satyagraha a
doctrine to practice passive or nonviolent resistance. He was successful in standing up against the
Transvaal province s government in the Republic of South Africa. It was only two years later when
Gandhi gained access to a letter written by the renowned Russian author, Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy to
the editor of the Free Hindustan newspaper in South Africa. In this letter, referred to as Letter to a
Hindu, Tolstoy addresses the roots of the Indian subcontinent s enslavements by the British as well as
methods to alleviate it.
Intrigued by the letter, Gandhi wrote to Tolstoy, asking for permission to translate the letter to
Guajarati, in an effort to share Tolstoy s wisdom with the others in the community. Gandhi continually
sought advice from Tolstoy from that point onwards; the correspondence between the two went on
until 1910 when Tolstoy passed away. The letter profoundly shaped young Gandhi s Satyagraha
ideology, setting a robust basis that Gandhi further develops.
Tolstoy starts each segment of the letter with a quote from one of the four Vedas, the Bible,
Vivekananda, the Hindu Kural, or Krishna. Each quote speaks of the chief themes addressed in
Tolstoy s letter: nonviolent resistance and love. Krishna, for instance, is the god that personifies love
and obliterates obscenity and agony. Born to institute love, Krishna is the most quoted of the five.
Vivekananda is a 19th

The Human Of Bone Marrow Transplantation
It should be noted that marrow grafting could not have reached clinical application without animal
research, first in inbred rodents and then in outbred species E. Donnall Thomas, The Nobel Prizes,
1990 Animal research, as mentioned by Dr. E. Donnall Thomas in 1990 during his Nobel Prize award,
has been crucial for the understanding of bone marrow transplantation (BMT) as a clinical therapy
138. His studies extensively used both mice and dogs as animal models. Other important models used
in BMT research are rats, cats, pigs and non human primates. The mouse is an excellent animal model
because of the similarities in physiological and pathological traits that they share with other animals
and humans. The field of BMT research has taken full advantage of these qualities, and mice have
become one of the most commonly used BMT animal models. Transplantation (organ and
hematopoietic) began in the early 20th century1. Several studies published between 1949 1953 139
141 documented that organs removed and immediately transplanted back into the same individual
(autotransplants) were not rejected. However, organs from genetically different animals but from the
same species (allografts) would eventually fail several days after transplantation. After the
identification of the antigens that comprise the major histocompatibility complexes (MHC) in the
1960 s, transplantation between genetically different individuals became feasible 1. In the veterinary

4mat Book Review Of John P. Kotter s Leading Change
4mat Book Review, Leading Change by John P. Kotter
Lisa B. Steele
Lipscomb University
Abstract
According to Greek philosopher Heraclitus (2009), Change is the only constant . Understanding that
change is going to happen and how to deal with the change is essential for all leaders. John Kotter
reviews an eight stage process for creating major change in his book, Leading Change. Understanding
the difference between leading and managing is crucial for this process to have success. When one
leads, instead of manages, change takes place. Management is the processes of an organization. It is
the day to day structure that produces products or services. Good management is important for a
business to succeed, but it is quite different from leadership. Good leadership produces useful change.

Old Men Comparison
No Country for Old Men Novel and Film comparison.
In this particular essay, that I am doing for the extra credit, I will be comparing the famous novel No
Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy, 2005 and the correlating film No Country for Old Men ,
directed by Joel Ethan Coen, 2007. I will discuss the similarities and the differences of the film and
the book, blending the difference of genres and leveling the field, allowing to compare.
Staring off, I would like to mention the fact that a comparison of the book and the film is a difficult
thing to do, as these genres are very different in their nature.
Let s start with the novel: as a lot of Cormac McCarthy s novels this one is a stylized gothic Western ,
its intense and both depressing, emotional and fascinating to read with its vivid imagery and gripping
plot. McCarthy s blood soaked Mexican border, hitmen, gangs, drugs, the rotten aspect of the
government, sociopathic murderers, etc. Lack of punctuation, for me personally, was a lackluster part
of the whole novel. The whole action sequence can be described as chronological, yet, despite the
predictability of some scenes, heavy in its intensity making the thriller natural and the action ... Show

one thing was very apparent there was no mental digging of the main character (except for Bell s

subtle disinterest to the book. But, back to the point, this was the prime characteristic why the book
movie transition would do so well lack of mental digging, which is very hard to transition into visuals,
or without using inappropriate for this movie narration of Moss s head. Also, the short size of the

Died: 1433, Kozhikode (Calicut), India
Circumstances of Death:
It is generally accepted (based on Ming dynasty records) that Zheng He died in 1433 at Calicut in
India during the return leg of the seventh voyage and was buried in Calicut or at sea, although some
theories, based on artifacts associated with him and believed to be from later than 1433, posit that he
died shortly after that voyage in 1434 or early 1435.

discomfort in the legs, generally between the knees and feet, which urges a person to move his legs.
There may be twitching of the leg muscles or deep creeping or crawling sensations. Sometimes it feels
like a pain, cramps, or aches. It tends to occur shortly after retiring at night or after sitting still for
quite some time. Sometimes this happens several times a night. CAUSES Restless leg syndrome is not
a serious neurological disorder, and moving the legs or walking around a little terminates the sensation
for a time. Women and older people have the syndrome more often than men, and a full 5% of the

It also seems to be related to pulmonary disease, stomach operations, diabetes, and uremia. Very
likely, there is a circulatory factor involved: Blood circulation is impeded in the legs or blood is being

below, are keyed to improving leg circulation and bettering the diet: IMMEDIATE TREATMENT
Move your feet back and forth for a few moments. Rotate the feet back and forth momentarily. Get up
and walk about for a couple minutes. This seems to work best at night, when you have been trying to
sleep. Change position in bed. It has been noted that some people experience the problem more often
when they sleep in certain positions. Some find using a heating pad helps; others do better by soaking
their feet in cold water. LONGER TERM CARE It is known that drinking coffee is a significant
factor, so stop using caffeine products. Stop smoking. Studies reveal it is also a factor. Some studies
have shown folic acid and vitamin E to be helpful. There may be a relationship between this problem
and iron deficiency. But be sure your iron is from food, not chemical supplements, or you can initiate

1932 Social Melodrama I Was Born But Analysis
In Yasijuro Ozu s 1932 social melodrama, I Was Born But..., it s use of mise en scene works well to
describe the characters lives at home, as well as the tone of an economically depressed Japan. As a
slice of life movie, one scene stands out between separating Yoshi, the father, and his co workers.
While the camera pans across an office of yawning workers, Yoshi is patiently waiting at his desk for
something, like being called into his boss office. During his discussion with Mr. Iwasaki, his co
workers criticize him for kissing up to the boss, by moving into the suburbs. Following this
conversation, the camera slides the other way, showing all of the office employees busy at their desk,
before abruptly cutting to the children in school doing the same thing. In this scene Ozu does a very
good job of showing the similarities between the children and the adults that work every day they do.

The Development of Benedick s Character in Shakespeare s Much Ado About Nothing
At the beginning of the play, Benedick appears as almost a comic character, acting as if the most
important part of his character is his wit. However, by the end of the play it becomes obvious that he is
a clear thinking character who is able to take action and keep his head in a crisis.
The change in Benedick s character is accompanied by the change in his relationship with Beatrice, as

The fact that Benedick has feelings for Beatrice becomes clearer as the play progresses, despite his
assertions to Claudio that he is a professed tyrant to their sex . Benedick keeps this point of view while
speaking to Don Pedro, making quite clear that he will never marry:
I will live a bachelor.
This statement seems to signify Benedick s apparent state of mind and character at this stage in the
play. He makes fun of Claudio for being in love and seeking to marry, which provides opportunity for
irony later in the play: his jokes are turned on him by Claudio and Don Pedro when his true feelings
for Beatrice are revealed.
Benedick s feelings for Beatrice become more obvious after the masqued ball, in Act 2 Scene 1. He
reacts quite strongly to Beatrice comments about him. Shakespeare uses the dramatic device of the
masqued ball, and the inherent confusion of identity, to allow Benedick to believe that Beatrice
intended to speak ill of him to another person, when all along Beatrice knows whom she is speaking
to. The fact that Benedick reacts in the way he does to these comments shows he is hurt by the thought
that Beatrice might feel this way about him. There is a suggestion that he does not mind such
comments when directed at him in a skirmish of wit , but the idea that she may speak ill of him to
another person is quite different, as he must have previously thought that she shared whatever secret
feelings he had

The Los Angeles Locos Hotel
Los Angeles Locos
I ll always remember the joy the Los Angeles Locos Hotel brought me in Mexico. I never would ve
thought the trip would consist such excitement. The night we saw sea turtles laying eggs, going
horseback riding on the beach, and watching a stormy day. Leaving was the hard part, the people I ll
never forget. Waking to the noise of the people s morning gatherings, drifting to sleep as the ocean
waves collided with the sand. My grandmother woke me one morning to tell me where our trip would

after finding out what activities would be included. A week later I struggled to sleep, familiar with the

As we pulled into the giant resort, I had excitement written all over my face. We grabbed our keys
after what felt like hours of waiting. I ran up the stairs, keeping my eyes open for the number 210 .
Once I found the brown oak door, I ran inside taking in every detail of the room. I opened the door to
one room and saw the dimmed, brown tiled bathroom. Then I ran across the room and opened the
sliding doors to see the balcony with the view of the entire back of the resort, the enormous pool from
one end of the resort to the other end. The ocean was so beautiful and blue, It seemed to never end. I
walked back inside and admired the two beds, the way they were made and the orange ribbon in the
middle of each bed. We put our luggage away and spent the first day by the pool, exploring the resort.
Soon it was dark and we were walking on the beach. We noticed colorful lights coming from a small
glass building up close to a mountain. Curiously we walked up the path of stairs, we entered what
looked like a club. Once me and my friend Daniel saw the male strippers in neon underwear we ran
back outside laughing. We walked back towards the center of the resort and saw that they were having
a party. There were chairs all around, the room filled with people. They were playing games and
laughing. We found open seats and sat down, joining them laughing at the people s attempts to play
charades. At 2 am we headed back to the hotel room and got some rest because the next day was

Is There Too Much Power In The Book 1984 By George Orwell
The Government has a lot more power and control over us than you may think. According to
popularmechanics.com, there are an estimated 30 million surveillance cameras now deployed in the
United States, shooting 4 billion hours of footage a week. Americans are being watched at all times,
more than ever. George Orwell s novel 1984 is a great example to what a government would look like
if it had complete surveillance and power over its citizens. The United States might not be at the same
level as Big Brother in 1984 yet, but it certainly looks like it might be going in that direction. Big
Brother and the party have complete control and power over its citizens in Oceania, a fictional country
in 1984.The party uses telescreens in every citizen s room to monitor their every move throughout the
day. Telescreens are basically big cameras that hear and see everything. This essentially takes away all
the citizens of Oceania s privacy away. Nothing can be done without big brother seeing it. The United

The Impact Of Viking Raids On The British Isles
Coming from Scandinavian countries, predominantly Denmark and Norway, the Vikings began
raiding the British Isles in the late 700s (James). The Vikings primarily targeted monasteries, because
that is where most of the wealth was concentrated (Loughrey). These raids were very violent, people
were killed, and the survivors were sold into slavery (Loughrey). These violent raids earned the
Vikings the reputation of barbarians, much like the Mongols a few centuries later in Asia. After some
time, once the Vikings exhausted most of the wealth in the monasteries, they turned their interest into
settling the British Isles (James). By the late 9th century the Vikings had conquered most of England
(James). However, even though these Viking kingdoms did not last very long, the Scandinavians who
resided there stayed. These Scandinavians would go on to change the British Isles in many ways.
Despite the violent and negative impacts of Viking raids on the British Isles, once the Vikings settled
down, they had a significant and positive peaceful impact on the British Isles culturally, politically,
and economically. The first of these positive impacts was on the culture of the British Isles. One of the
ways that the Vikings influenced the culture is evidenced by how they changed the English language.
Since Old Norse and Old English are very similar, it can be very hard to detect where Old Norse
coincides with modern English (Treharne 3). However, a very obvious influence is seen in the

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization(UNIDO) defines Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR) as a management concept whereby companies integrate social and
environmental concerns in their business operations and interactions with their stakeholders . The term
is explained through a Triple Bottom Line Approach as being the way through which a company
achieves a balance of economic, environmental and social imperatives ( Triple Bottom Line ) while at
the same time addressing the expectations of shareholders and stakeholders (Elkington, 1997). This
approach assumes a very significant light in today s dynamic world where every aspect of life is inter
connected in a very mysterious fabric, where the alteration of one can affect the others in ways beyond
comprehension. Corporate Social Responsibility, both as a term and concept, started becoming
popular in the 1960s, when industrialization which sprouted in the Industrial Revolution was fixating
its roots all across the world. Industrialization can be defined as the period of social and economic
change that transforms a human group from an agrarian society into an industrial one . Just like the
correlation and dependence of the various aspects of life with each other, it is seen that CSR and
Industrialization shared their space of mutual effects as well.
This paper aims to present a historic view on CSR, based on the trends and influencing factors, related
to the booming of industrialization.

Negative Effects Of Music Downloading
While some may argue that downloading music illegally increases an artist s popularity by exposure,
doing so greatly harms the artist and the dedication they put into producing their music. Supporters of
free music downloading claim that online sites only increase the popularity of an artist s music by
giving them more exposure to a bigger audience. John Dino, a supporter of free music downloading
states in his speech, sites, such as Napster are helping artists music to be spread around worldwide,
while simultaneously granting listeners a simple way to access music (Theft in Music). These free
online sites give listeners a way to test an artist s music to see if they are truly interested in buying. By
doing so, it saves the listeners from buying music they could potentially not like, and it saves the artist
from gaining false music purchases that listeners could actually not be listening to. This process can
limit an artist s fans to only listeners that are interested in the artist s music and fans that generally
want to support and endorse the artist by buying their merchandise or going to their concerts. In turn,
the artist s sales should profit as more people are listening to the artist s music and buying their
products which allows them to become more known worldwide as they are getting more easily
recognized on a global scale. Regardless, even if listeners find that they are not interested in the artist
s music and therefore do not purchase their music, the music industry can still benefit from the wide
access other artists receive. According to a speech done by Ariana Torres, she summarizes that the
music industry still makes money despite loss from free music downloading that the industry can then
turn into more contracts ( Downloading Music ). The music industry is highly flexible mainly because
they focus solely on popular artists, or emerging artists that could potentially make a hit and gain the
industry profit from their sales. Either way, the industry still makes money because of the people
listening to different artists music. The chance of a listener listening to only one artist is highly
unlikely, so that means the listener has to be listening to two or more artists music. This means that

American Bar Association Essay Topics
The American Bar Association By James R. Silkenat The original Constitution of the American Bar
Association defined the purpose of the ABA as being for the advancement of the science of
jurisprudence, the promotion of the administration of justice and a uniformity of legislation
throughout the country.... While this Constitution still considerably shapes the focus of the ABA,
today s legal profession is very different from what it was when the ABA was first formed 137 years
ago in Saratoga Springs, New York. When 75 lawyers from 20 states and the District of Columbia met
to establish the American Bar Association on August 21, 1878, there was no national code of ethics.
Most lawyers practiced solo. There were no universal standards for law schools, since most lawyers
did not have law degrees and attending law school at that time was rare. Young lawyers learned their
craft through apprenticeships and by reading classic legal texts. Improving diversity within the
profession was almost certainly not a topic of conversation. Today, the ABA is as committed as ever to
improving the justice system and the law. It works to serve its members, the legal profession, and the
public by defending liberty and pursuing justice as the national voice of the legal profession. The ABA
achieves its mission through four goals, as evidenced on the organization s website: Goal I: Serve Our
Members. Objective: 1. Provide benefits, programs and services which promote members professional

Description Of A Static Ip Address
A static IP address is an IP address that was manually configured for a device, verses one that was
assigned via a DHCP server. A static IP address is called static because it doesn t change. This is the
exact opposite of a dynamic IP address, which does change. Static IP addresses are also sometimes
referred to as fixed IP addresses or dedicated IP addresses. A different technique to think about a new
static IP target is actually to think about such as an email target, or possibly a bodily property target.
These address tend not to actually adjust there re static also it tends to make getting in touch with or

when your number an internet site from home, have a very document server inside your circle, are
applying networked models, usually are owning a produce server, or perhaps if you utilize a new out

set up a new static IP target pertaining to one of many pcs at home multilevel. In the event the
computer has a unique target associated with it, it is possible to set up your current router to be able to

The despite these events being separated by nearly a century, several thousand miles, or both, all three

Much like the English revolution, the French Revolution was largely caused by a leader denying his
subjects their percieved right of representation in government. There, due to looming financial
problems, the state attempted to levy additional taxes without an elected body to approve them. The
French Parlement rejected this idea and insisted on the Estates General as the only body able to allow
this. Despite the efforts of many to establish the Estates General to ratify the taxes, the Kings blatent
disregard for the peoples concerns over the abuse of power quickly pushed the country to war. But for
all the good will earnt more was lost as the king and his government began forcing laws through using
the arbitrary practice of lit de justice. The king is even recorded as responding to complaints by saying
it s legal because I wish it (Doyle 80). Ultimately, France went bankrupt the people would accept no

Nike Promise And Peril Of Globalization Summary
The Promise and Peril of Globalization: The case of Nike. Nike was started in 1964 as a sportswear
company dealing with shoes but later diversified to start the production of other sports wares such as
clothes and balls and other sporting equipment. Nike has since become a household name and is
present in all continents. Growth. Nike started by importing sporting shoes from cheaper producing
countries, and selling them in the USA and thus providing the market with cheaper, quality products in
comparison to the expensive home product of other companies. With this strategy, Nike was able to
capture a good market share. This growth made the company start designing their products, and
contracting manufacturers from countries with cheaper labour to produce for them while the company
maintained a quality check from the producing factory. This expansion began with contracting
companies in Japan where they were importing from, but when production started to become
expensive, Nike started to look for other options and contracted companies from Korea, China,

Monsanto is an American agrochemical corporation which manufactures pesticides and GMO crops.
One of the most well recognized herbicides is Monsanto s Roundup, which contains the carcinogen
glyphosate. To prevent from killing the crops when farmers apply Roundup to their fields, Monsanto
invented GMO versions of many staple crops such as corn, soybeans, and cotton which resist
Roundup. Like the weeds, these GMO crops still absorb glyphosate, however the crops are able to stay
alive through changes in their genetic makeup which make them herbicide resistant. The herbicide
tolerance of certain crops has been adopted because it, simplifies weed control to the use of a single
herbicide and a flexible and easy management strategy (Labrada, 2003), as well as decreasing the cost
of weed control programs. As a result, Monsanto bought out most small farms and now owns 80% of
the U.S. market share of corn and 93% of the U.S. market share of soy, which are then sold to modern
food processing. Upwards of 75% of the processed food on American supermarket shelves contain

which pose a huge health risk themselves, they are also consuming massive amounts of glyphosate, a

Analysis Of A. Philip Randolph s Brotherhood Of Sleeping...
On the surface, A. Philip Randolph s Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters (BSCP) was fighting for
union recognition and changing the pay system from tip based to living wage based in 1926.
Underneath this, was a desire to separate blacks from the status of servant. The Pullman porters of the
era were perceived by the BSCP and Randolph as either slacker porters who relied on tips,
musicianship, and the paternalism of rich whites, or manly men who were willing to demand job
dignity, fair pay, and representation. The rhetoric of slacker porters and manly men was in response to
the vast racist misinterpretation that belittled specifically black itinerant musicians, but was geared
towards all black workers regardless of their given profession. This belittlement can be seen through
the ubiquitous caricatures maligning the work ethic, intelligence, and humanity... [that was] specific
to... musical entertainment . This imagery depicted black musicians as stock characters used by racist
whites to represent black laziness, immaturity, primitivism, and lack of manliness, but these
interpretations were only a part of a larger accumulation of racist misinterpretations that affected all
blacks. For Randolph, the similarities of mobility, tip taking, the need to endear oneself to customers
between porters who relied on tips for ends meet, some even going through the trouble of learning
musicianship in order to boost their tip income and black wanderlust musicians

Prediction Of Home Prices Of A Metropolitan Area
Prediction of home prices. Using the above regression equation, one can determine the expected home
prices of a metropolitan area based on the median income of that area. For a metropolitan area with

Henry Thoreau Essay
Born in 1817, in Concord, Henry David Thoreau became one of the greatest writers among the
American Renaissance. Thoreau based his whole philosophy on the fact that man needed to get rid of

cabin, and often arranged his affairs so he had to work as little as possible. Published on August 9,
1854, Walden sold two thousand copies. For one dollar, people read into the depths of Thoreau s life at
Walden Pond and all his views on everything from the anti slavery movement to his environmental
ideas. Walden sold moderately well during Thoreau s lifetime, but his greatest respects came
posthumously.Through the reading of Walden, many people have discovered the magic of Henry
David Thoreau s pen. Just a man from Concord, Massachusetts, he lived an extraordinary life as a
simple man. That, however, was all

(1980) A discussion of each component of the model is as follows: 2.1. Degree of rivalry among existing firms. Competitive rivalry is organizations with similar products and services aimed at the same customer group. The degree of rivalry among the competing firms is affected by a number of factors. These include: * A larger number of firms increase rivalry because more firms must compete for the same customers and resources. The rivalry intensifies if the firms have similar market share, leading to a struggle for market leadership. * High fixed costs result in an economy of scale effect that increases rivalry. When total costs are mostly fixed costs, the firm must produce near capacity to attain the lowest unit costs * Low levels of product differentiation are associated with higher levels of rivalry. There remain thematic threads and subtextual audience assumptions that create coherence and flow as it now functions. The imagery of the jeopardy opening, in which the camera soars over CGI oceans, islands and San Franciscan monuments, evokes a theme of travel and adventure that is sustained throughout the portion of the schedule analyzed, which actually builds off of this same theme created by the slow preceding it, Wheel of Fortune which was giving out exotic trips as prizes. This sense of adventure establishes a slightly more ambiguous demographic which can include younger viewers who, for a half hour, live vicariously through the contestants, getting the same rush when answering questions as the contestants do. This sense of adventure is upheld in the advertisements as well. The Taltz ad (V) depicts happy consumers enjoying themselves in the great outdoors under blue skies, and the various car commercials depict their vehicles offroading in the mountains of a wintry climate, (VI, XIX, XXIX, XXXI). • 4. Character Analysis Of EuripidesMedea Inside each of us, there is the seed of both good and evil. It s a constant struggle as to which one will win. This quote by Eric Burdon sums up what it s like to be a morally ambiguous character, and Euripides Medea is the perfect example of that. Although Medea seems to be a good woman at heart, she struggles with her powerful emotions, and when she acts upon her anger, she seems more like a cold hearted beast. During this play, the audience is pulled back and forth in trying to decide the true nature of this morally ambiguous character. In the beginning of the story, the audience is led to view Medea as a heartbroken and helpless woman who was just abandoned by her husband, Jason. Her nurse points out that Medea s love for Jason was beyond compare, but now that he left her, She lies without food and gives herself up to suffering,/ Wasting away every moment of the day in tears. (1) This behavior causes the viewers to pity Medea and automatically think that Jason is the bad guy; their first impression is that she is a pure woman who does nothing wrong. In spite of that, Medea goes on to cleverly guilt the king into letting her stay after being exiled: Allow me to remain here just for this one day,/ So I may consider where to live in my exile,/ And look for support for my children... Have pity on them! You have children of your own. (12) This tactic exhibits her manipulative and devious nature, despite being utterly miserable only a few moments ago. During her ... Essay on Shakespeare s Macbeth and Kurosawa s Throne of Blood Throne of Blood, the 1957 filmed translation of Macbeth by William Shakespeare, was made in Japan, written in Japanese by Shinobu Hashimoto, Ryuzo Kikushima, Akira Kurosowa and Hideo Oguni and directed by Akira Kurosawa. It has many times been called an adaptation of Macbeth, however it is not. As storytellers have done since time began, Kurosawa took a story and made it his own: translating a play text into another medium; a separate setting; a differing culture in a completely different style and for a completely contrasting audience. The film wasn t even intended to be an adaptation of Macbeth. When composing Throne of Blood, the writing team involved did not even consult Shakespeare s script, as Stuart Galbraith details in ... Kurosawa wrote for a contemporary audience of 1950 s Japan, setting his story in a culture that was known to them, as Shakespeare had done. Similar to the kabuki historical drama or jidai mono, Throne of Blood bases its story around the warriors and noblemen of the feudal Japan, a worthy equivalent to Shakespeare s Scottish soldiers and aristocracy of the early middle ages. In Akira Kurosawa and Intertextual Cinema, James Goodwin says that Kurosawa `demonstrates a preference for eras of disruption in samurai culture, of massive social upheaval, or of civil war. For Throne of Blood he had in mind the Sengoko period of civil wars (1467 1568) when there were frequent incidents of gekokujo, the overthrow of a superior by his own retainers. Kurosawa uses his setting in a similar way to that of Shakespeare, who uses various examples of imagery concerning the idea of imbalance: of order and disorder. In Act Two, Scene Four of Macbeth he uses many hints to tell his audience how chaotic things have become for his characters. The Effects Of Deep Sea Mining On Earth David Richardson said Gold and silver like other commodities have an intrinsic value which is not arbitrary, but is dependent on their scarcity, the quantity of exertion bestowed in procuring them, and the value of the capital employed in the mines which produce them. According to the American Nurses Association (ANA) code of ethics the nurse has a duty to maintain confidentiality of all patient information (Nursing world, p.6). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first step in this process is gathering all relevant information. Once the healthcare provider is certain that all pertinent information is evaluated they can determine the type of ethical dilemma. In this case the ethical dilemma was the choice to maintain or breach patient confidentiality. After determining the nature of the dilemma it is important to use a theoretical framework to analyze the issue. The nurse using a utilitarianistic theory would look at all consequences of breaking confidentiality versus maintaining confidentiality. If the nurse utilizes a deontological approach the decision is made based on the nurse s duty and responsibility to uphold patient confidentiality. The nurse would then determine what to do in the situation by looking at all the alternatives. After determining a course of action the nurse must proceed with the action that is thought to be best. In the end the nurse should evaluate the outcomes of the decision for future professional development (Purtilo Dougherty, 2010). A nurse faced with this type of situation may seek advice from the institution s ethics committee in order to determine the appropriate course of action. He was successful in standing up against the Transvaal province s government in the Republic of South Africa. It was only two years later when Gandhi gained access to a letter written by the renowned Russian author, Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy to the editor of the Free Hindustan newspaper in South Africa. In this letter, referred to as Letter to a Hindu, Tolstoy addresses the roots of the Indian subcontinent s enslavements by the British as well as methods to alleviate it. Intrigued by the letter, Gandhi wrote to Tolstoy, asking for permission to translate the letter to Guajarati, in an effort to share Tolstoy s wisdom with the others in the community. Gandhi continually sought advice from Tolstoy from that point onwards; the correspondence between the two went on until 1910 when Tolstoy passed away. The letter profoundly shaped young Gandhi s Satyagraha ideology, setting a robust basis that Gandhi further develops. Tolstoy starts each segment of the letter with a quote from one of the four Vedas, the Bible, Vivekananda, the Hindu Kural, or Krishna. Each quote speaks of the chief themes addressed in Tolstoy s letter: nonviolent resistance and love. Krishna, for instance, is the god that personifies love and obliterates obscenity and agony. Donnall Thomas, The Nobel Prizes, 1990 Animal research, as mentioned by Dr. E. Donnall Thomas in 1990 during his Nobel Prize award, has been crucial for the understanding of bone marrow transplantation (BMT) as a clinical therapy 138. His studies extensively used both mice and dogs as animal models. Other important models used in BMT research are rats, cats, pigs and non human primates. The mouse is an excellent animal model because of the similarities in physiological and pathological traits that they share with other animals and humans. The field of BMT research has taken full advantage of these qualities, and mice have become one of the most commonly used BMT animal models. John Kotter reviews an eight stage process for creating major change in his book, Leading Change. In this particular essay, that I am doing for the extra credit, I will be comparing the famous novel No Country for Old Men by Cormac McCarthy, 2005 and the correlating film No Country for Old Men , directed by Joel Ethan Coen, 2007. I will discuss the similarities and the differences of the film and the book, blending the difference of genres and leveling the field, allowing to compare. Staring off, I would like to mention the fact that a comparison of the book and the film is a difficult thing to do, as these genres are very different in their nature. Let s start with the novel: as a lot of Cormac McCarthy s novels this one is a stylized gothic Western , its intense and both depressing, emotional and fascinating to read with its vivid imagery and gripping plot. McCarthy s blood soaked Mexican border, hitmen, gangs, drugs, the rotten aspect of the government, sociopathic murderers, etc. Lack of punctuation, for me personally, was a lackluster part of the whole novel. The change in Benedick s character is accompanied by the change in his relationship with Beatrice, as they move from merry war and skirmish of wit to become lovers, though Benedick does still protest that he love thee (Beatrice) against my will . The fact that Benedick has feelings for Beatrice becomes clearer as the play progresses, despite his assertions to Claudio that he is a professed tyrant to their sex . Benedick keeps this point of view while speaking to Don Pedro, making quite clear that he will never marry: I will live a bachelor. This statement seems to signify Benedick s apparent state of mind and character at this stage in the play. He makes fun of Claudio for being in love and seeking to marry, which provides opportunity for irony later in the play: his jokes are turned on him by Claudio and Don Pedro when his true feelings for Beatrice are revealed. Benedick s feelings for Beatrice become more obvious after the masqued ball, in Act 2 Scene 1. He reacts quite strongly to Beatrice comments about him. Shakespeare uses the dramatic device of the masqued ball, and the inherent confusion of identity, to allow Benedick to believe that Beatrice intended to speak ill of him to another person, when all along Beatrice knows whom she is speaking to. The fact that Benedick reacts in the way he does to these comments shows he is hurt by the thought that Beatrice might feel this way about him. According to popularmechanics.com, there are an estimated 30 million surveillance cameras now deployed in the United States, shooting 4 billion hours of footage a week. Americans are being watched at all times, more than ever. George Orwell s novel 1984 is a great example to what a government would look like if it had complete surveillance and power over its citizens. The United States might not be at the same level as Big Brother in 1984 yet, but it certainly looks like it might be going in that direction. Big Brother and the party have complete control and power over its citizens in Oceania, a fictional country in 1984.The party uses telescreens in every citizen s room to monitor their every move throughout the day. • 26. The Impact Of Viking Raids On The British Isles Coming from Scandinavian countries, predominantly Denmark and Norway, the Vikings began raiding the British Isles in the late 700s (James). The Vikings primarily targeted monasteries, because that is where most of the wealth was concentrated (Loughrey). These raids were very violent, people were killed, and the survivors were sold into slavery (Loughrey). These violent raids earned the Vikings the reputation of barbarians, much like the Mongols a few centuries later in Asia. After some time, once the Vikings exhausted most of the wealth in the monasteries, they turned their interest into settling the British Isles (James). By the late 9th century the Vikings had conquered most of England (James). However, even though these Viking kingdoms did not last very long, the Scandinavians who resided there stayed. These Scandinavians would go on to change the British Isles in many ways. Despite the violent and negative impacts of Viking raids on the British Isles, once the Vikings settled down, they had a significant and positive peaceful impact on the British Isles culturally, politically, and economically. The first of these positive impacts was on the culture of the British Isles. One of the ways that the Vikings influenced the culture is evidenced by how they changed the English language. Since Old Norse and Old English are very similar, it can be very hard to detect where Old Norse coincides with modern English (Treharne 3). However, a very obvious influence is seen in the ... • 30. The United Nations Industrial Development Organization The United Nations Industrial Development Organization(UNIDO) defines Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a management concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and interactions with their stakeholders . The term is explained through a Triple Bottom Line Approach as being the way through which a company achieves a balance of economic, environmental and social imperatives ( Triple Bottom Line ) while at the same time addressing the expectations of shareholders and stakeholders (Elkington, 1997). This approach assumes a very significant light in today s dynamic world where every aspect of life is inter connected in a very mysterious fabric, where the alteration of one can affect the others in ways beyond comprehension. Corporate Social Responsibility, both as a term and concept, started becoming popular in the 1960s, when industrialization which sprouted in the Industrial Revolution was fixating its roots all across the world. Industrialization can be defined as the period of social and economic change that transforms a human group from an agrarian society into an industrial one . Just like the correlation and dependence of the various aspects of life with each other, it is seen that CSR and Industrialization shared their space of mutual effects as well. This paper aims to present a historic view on CSR, based on the trends and influencing factors, related to the booming of industrialization. The notion of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Negative Effects Of Music Downloading While some may argue that downloading music illegally increases an artist s popularity by exposure, doing so greatly harms the artist and the dedication they put into producing their music. Supporters of free music downloading claim that online sites only increase the popularity of an artist s music by giving them more exposure to a bigger audience. John Dino, a supporter of free music downloading states in his speech, sites, such as Napster are helping artists music to be spread around worldwide, while simultaneously granting listeners a simple way to access music (Theft in Music). These free online sites give listeners a way to test an artist s music to see if they are truly interested in buying. By doing so, it saves the listeners from buying music they could potentially not like, and it saves the artist from gaining false music purchases that listeners could actually not be listening to. This process can limit an artist s fans to only listeners that are interested in the artist s music and fans that generally want to support and endorse the artist by buying their merchandise or going to their concerts. In turn, the artist s sales should profit as more people are listening to the artist s music and buying their products which allows them to become more known worldwide as they are getting more easily recognized on a global scale. Regardless, even if listeners find that they are not interested in the artist s music and therefore do not purchase their music, the music industry can still benefit from the wide access other artists receive. According to a speech done by Ariana Torres, she summarizes that the music industry still makes money despite loss from free music downloading that the industry can then turn into more contracts ( Downloading Music ). The music industry is highly flexible mainly because they focus solely on popular artists, or emerging artists that could potentially make a hit and gain the industry profit from their sales. Either way, the industry still makes money because of the people listening to different artists music. The chance of a listener listening to only one artist is highly unlikely, so that means the listener has to be listening to two or more artists music. This means that ... While this Constitution still considerably shapes the focus of the ABA, today s legal profession is very different from what it was when the ABA was first formed 137 years ago in Saratoga Springs, New York. When 75 lawyers from 20 states and the District of Columbia met to establish the American Bar Association on August 21, 1878, there was no national code of ethics. Most lawyers practiced solo. There were no universal standards for law schools, since most lawyers did not have law degrees and attending law school at that time was rare. Young lawyers learned their craft through apprenticeships and by reading classic legal texts. Improving diversity within the profession was almost certainly not a topic of conversation. Today, the ABA is as committed as ever to improving the justice system and the law. It works to serve its members, the legal profession, and the public by defending liberty and pursuing justice as the national voice of the legal profession. The ABA achieves its mission through four goals, as evidenced on the organization s website: Goal I: Serve Our Members. Objective: 1. Monsanto is an American agrochemical corporation which manufactures pesticides and GMO crops. One of the most well recognized herbicides is Monsanto s Roundup, which contains the carcinogen glyphosate. To prevent from killing the crops when farmers apply Roundup to their fields, Monsanto invented GMO versions of many staple crops such as corn, soybeans, and cotton which resist Roundup. Like the weeds, these GMO crops still absorb glyphosate, however the crops are able to stay alive through changes in their genetic makeup which make them herbicide resistant. The herbicide tolerance of certain crops has been adopted because it, simplifies weed control to the use of a single herbicide and a flexible and easy management strategy (Labrada, 2003), as well as decreasing the cost of weed control programs. Philip Randolph s Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters (BSCP) was fighting for union recognition and changing the pay system from tip based to living wage based in 1926. The Pullman porters of the era were perceived by the BSCP and Randolph as either slacker porters who relied on tips, musicianship, and the paternalism of rich whites, or manly men who were willing to demand job dignity, fair pay, and representation. The rhetoric of slacker porters and manly men was in response to the vast racist misinterpretation that belittled specifically black itinerant musicians, but was geared towards all black workers regardless of their given profession.
