Sqfe method Under Uncertain Conditions by Generating Fuzzy Membership Function
Abstract: The quality based approach SQFE (Suivi Qualite Par le Fournisseur Exterieur) has been
introduced by three automotive corporations to measure the quality of supplier products. This
approach proposes a general criterion by which inspection samples are classified to different demerit
categories with different weights, to compute mean unit demerit for each measurable quality
characteristic. However, the assignment of an actual and crisp demerit weight to each sample is
unrealistic, in the face of the unavoidable measurement errors as well as the inevitable uncertainty
involved in human judgment. In this paper an improved estimation procedure which is based on fuzzy
logic instead of bivalent logic, is presented to calculate s. The fuzzy set theory is used to add more
accuracy and flexibility to the analysis. For this aim, likelihood view has been adapted to generate
fuzzy membership function, in order to assign the appropriate demerit weight to each sample. In
addition, a numerical example that evaluates products based on the proposed method and compares it
with the current standard procedure is presented.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Steel
In the late 19th century, the US Navy was falling behind the rest of the world when it came to the use
of new technology, so in 1883, legislation authorized the development of modern steel warships. This
move lead to the great battleships of WWII and even the ships that fight today. The steel armor plating
of these ships provides great strength and longevity that is needed for their jobs. Steel is one of the
most popular materials in the world due to its high strength and low cost. It is used in many different
objects and scenarios, from buildings, machines, and tools to weapons, vehicles, and of course, ships.
Steel also has different types, whether it be carbon steel, alloy steel, or stainless steel. The primary
type of steel used for battleships has been nickel steel, or an iron nickel alloy. This stainless steel
provides the best properties needed for battleships to last and work to their highest potential. Steel ...

It s original primary uses were for knives, razors, and springs. Later, the production of steel become
much easier, and therefore cheaper, making a much more practical and popular material. Some
different types of steels for application include long steel, flat carbon steel, stainless steel, and COR
TEN, or self weathering, steel. Long steel is primarily used for structures and heavy wires, flat carbon
steel is used for major appliances. Stainless steel has many uses, including weapons and jewelry to
name a couple. Self weathering steel is used in vulnerable, outdoor uses. Nickel steel, more
specifically, has many applications due to its favorable features like durability, strength, and heat
resistance. Today, some industries that use this type of steel include the aerospace industry, food
processing plants, chemical processing, and oil or gas industries to name a few. Nickel steel is also
used in many mechanical situations, for gears, bolts, and

Gettysburg Movie Historical Analysis
With Hollywood producers jumping all over the idea of making historical wars and battles come to
life on the big screen, many times fabricated and over the top details are added to enhance the overall
plots. Keeping this in mind, I analyzed the movie Gettysburg, directed by Ronald F. Maxwell, for
historical accuracies. The battle of Gettysburg was the bloodiest battle in American history, many
movies have been made to re enact the horrors that unraveled within those days; however, many of
them are incorrect. The movie Gettysburg, directed by Ronald F. Maxwell, seems to be mostly
accurate with the historical events. The defense of Little Round Top was a pivotal moment within the
battle of Gettysburg, the winner of this skirmish would decide ... Show more content on

This is the main attack for which the 20th Maine regiment has been preparing for. During this clash,
there are multiple waves that the regiment has to defend against. The director is trying to convey a
point to the audience concerning the sheer numbers of the Confederate army by visually creating
multiple wave attacks. The 20th Maine regiment is also a massive army especially with the extra help
given delivered by, ... 120 three year enlistees from the 2nd Maine Infantry were marched under guard
into the regimental area of the 20th Maine. The 2nd Maine men were in a state of mutiny and refused
to fight... (Brann). For the production sake of the film, only six men could represent the historically
accurate number of 120 men. In the film, Chamberlain talked to these men, saying, Any of you fellas
care to join us, any man who joins us now there will be no court marshal (Gettysburg). The director is
trying to make it seem like this bit of help is substantially aiding the 20th regiment without having to
cast the massive numbers of people. In the article, The Battle of Gettysburg , it tells more about the
numbers, explaining how, On the second day of battle, the Union defended a fishhook shaped range of
hills and ridges south of Gettysburg with around 90,000 soldiers. Confederates essentially wrapped
around the Union position with 70,000 soldiers (The Battle of Gettysburg). The massive amount of
numbers obviously could not be

Language In My Fair Lady
Abstract:
A language is a system of conventional signals used for communication by a whole community A. C.
Gimson. Language is an essential tool for communication as well as for self expression. Language can
be considered as a habit which is not genetically transmitted. It is acquired from the environment and
therefore it is always subject to change. Language and linguistics go hand in hand. Language is a
network of varieties and linguistics is the discipline that deals with the scientific study of language and
its variations like dialect, registers, pidgin, Creole, etc.
The purpose of this study is to explore the importance of the movie My Fair Lady in the study of
Linguistics. My Fair Lady is directed by George Cukor and it is adapted ... Show more content on

A simple example for the above statement is a comparison between a news covered by a news channel
and a newspaper. The news covered by the news channel would be more influential as it includes the
video clips along with the news scrolls and the reporter s narration, which creates an effect on the
audience that makes them feel as if they are witnessing the incident live, whereas, the one covered by
the newspaper will simply act as third person narrative to the audience. Similarly, there are many text
books and reference books that deal with the study of linguistics. But the movie My Fair Lady is an
excellent example, that gives the students of linguistics an idea about the benefits of learning it
properly and that gives the teachers of linguistics an idea about how to teach it effectively.
This study will work on understanding how the movie My Fair Lady depicts the power and beauty of
the English language through the life of a linguist and his student and the impact it has on the study of
linguistics. It will also analyze how different researchers have viewed this movie as a helpful tool in
the study of linguistics. The content analysis is done on the story of the movie My Fair Lady, the play
Pygmalion, written by George Bernard Shaw, from which the story of the movie is adapted, a website
and a research paper. The researcher has done an expert interview too, of a professor who deals with

Michelle Obama Hillary Clinton
Given the closing in 2016 presidential election, both candidates have been working hard to convince
the citizens of the United States that they are the optimal decision for President. Both, Hillary Clinton
and Donald Trump have been in constant turmoil in creating promotional advertisements and speeches
as to why they should be chosen to lead the country. Hillary Clinton, a long time politician and
Secretary of State, who received the unequivocal backing of the current President of the United States
and the First Lady. Subsequently, the First Lady gave a speech about Hillary Clinton advocating her
full support. First Lady Michelle Obama utilizes pathos and allusions to persuade her audience that
Secretary Hillary Clinton is the most logical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The First Lady implements allusion to accordingly compare Secretary Clinton to great leaders from
the past. She achieves this goal, by emphasizing that she wants a leader who truly believes in the
vision that our Founders put forth all those years ago. . . (Obama 22). Michelle Obamas allusion to the
Founding Fathers and their ideals help to establish a connection between Clinton and the leaders that
forged the nation. Including this comparison helps to guide the audience to collate their knowledge of
the Founding Fathers and apply it to Hillary Clinton. This citation becomes particularly significant
when the First Lady uses people that are so highly respected, such as the Founding Fathers, to
compare to Secretary Clinton. As a result, Michelle Obama is able to successfully enhance the image
of Hillary Clinton in the eyes of her audience. Nevertheless, Michelle Obama also uses allusions to
downgrade the image of Clintons opponent, Donald Trump. The First lady explains how we should
never . . .let anyone ever tell you that this country isn t great, that somehow we need to make it great
again (Obama 29). Michelle Obama ameliorates Clintons image, by alluding to a negative persona of
her rival. The First Lady utilizes Donald Trump s campaign slogan to institute that America is already
great within itself, and the nation does not need Trump to make it great again . This tactic supports
Michelle Obamas claim by altering the audiences view point of Donald Trump and his slogan. The
audience will now perceive Trump as someone who does not believe that America is or could be great
, without him. Therefore, the First Lady accurately alludes to Clintons rival in a demeaning manner to
boost Clintons own image. Michelle Obamas use of allusion aids in modifying the persona of both
candidates to

Why Do We Wear A Mask
I hope you guys are ready for a good start. Awesome! As you can clearly see, I am wearing a mask,
hiding my true face and feelings from the society. Who knows what pain and misery I am going
through in my life at the moment! However, who, after all, has not worn a mask on occasion to
conceal their frustration and disappointment? One particular group in our society who were forced to
wear a mask to conceal with true feelings about their situation, was African Americans during the fight
for civil rights. Although we can really not understand exactly what these individuals went through,
obviously we can relate to the concept of wearing a mask in that we all have a façade that we wear in
our daily life. Paul Laurance Dunbar, the son of a slave, has written many poems to talk about white ...

Black Americans were forced to wear masks to avoid showing their true feelings. Living behind a
mask is nothing but a disguise a disguise of hurtful truths that hid behind faces of African Americans
and that is not the way to live. As communicated through the people, African Americans wore masks
that grin and smile but behind all those grins and smiles, hearts are torn and souls miserably tortured.
Furthermore, the speaker tells us that wearer of the mask wants freedom from the people who are full
of guile and force them to wear mask just to lie. They need to become free from all this mistreatment
and discrimination. They want to have the same rights and equality as the rest of the people in this
world. It is important to note that when you specifically know Dunbar s background, you are able to
make this specific meaning about the plight of African Americans, however this poem also has a
universal nature. As we have already established, we all wear masks at one time or another and so the
feelings communicated by the speaker of this poem resonate with

Body Odour Creative Writing
The supply teacher, a middle aged man, one I recognised vaguely by voice and sight, but not by name;
barks orders from the side of the room, as he stands slightly slumped against the wall, watching my
classmates intently as they each take in turns to spar. The room reeks of body odour and a strong
metallic smell, which follows more often than not after injuries take place. The familiar smell of blood
is now an unpleasant effluvium that I recognise all too well nowadays. Per usual, I have zoned out,
like I often do whenever classes take a swift and sudden turn, and an allowance for a violent outbreak.

Frequently, alien species overcome indigenous species by decreasing their reproductive rate,
effectively consuming food resources, and possibly leading to extinction of native species (Mooney

Caulerpa racemosa, a tropical macroalga, which is listed as one of the worst invasive species in that
region (Streftaris and Zenetos, 2006). This macroalga has affected gravely the marine ecosystem,

Abdurhman Alsadi Prof. Joshua Long Exam #3 04/14/2016 Question #1 The antitrust laws are
basically competition laws that are aimed at protecting the consumers from predatory businesses out

market. The major objective of these laws was majorly meant to curb business practise vices such as
price fixing, bid rigging, and market allocations. In USA, the antitrust law is cascade into two major
categories, the federal antitrust laws, and state antitrust laws. The first antitrust law in USA was the
Sherman Act of 1890. This law mainly address the unreasonable restraints of trade which are
perceived to be monopolizing with foreign entities and restraint of businesses from operations in the
form of contracts and conspiracies in business combinations. The second major antitrust law is the
Clayton Act brought in 1914 which widened the scope of the Sherman Act for include impermissible
activities such as price discrimination between different purchasers if such discrimination tend to
create a monopoly; exclusive dealing agreements, tying arrangements, and mergers and acquisitions
that substantially reduce market competition. The third major antitrust law were the Robinson Patman
Act of 1936. This came as an amendment to the Clayton Act, which aimed at outlawing certain
practices where manufacturers discriminated in price between equally situated distributors to decrease

When an economy is suffering, people will look for an entity or person to blame yes, but they also
eagerly and sometimes blindly accept what they might justify as the lesser of two evils. In this case,
Evil is identified and there is nothing lesser about it. In the early 1900 s what they found changed and
also ended the lives of millions. World War II and the hardship it brought upon Germany was just the
tool that one man in particular took advantage of for his own personal gain and ideology. Born in

how cult leaders of today find their victims or followers; they exploit person s weaknesses and offer a
solution, a better way of life and a feeling of uniqueness or belonging. Hitler seized this opportunity to
claim that the democratic system had failed the German people and that the Nazis were their only
hope (Why, 2013). Almost everyone is guilty of adding a little fluff to a statement or claim in order to
make it more believable or agreeable. Take this same situation presented twice, using a different
approach each time. Wife says to husband, We need to talk (Imagine her arms folded, jaw slightly
extended forward in an assertive manner). How willingly do you think the husband will be to give her
100% of his attention and be in good spirits about it? Instead imagine the situation approached like
this: Wife says, Husband, there is something I need your help with (one hand outstretched to hold his,
a smile on her face instead of a glare). Hitler knew how to use power words, how to sell himself like a

Effects of external environment on company s strategy
Introduction:
The development of any organization require new ways of orientation of a business, requires
organization to adapt to environmental changes inside and outside the action. The purpose of external
assessment is to prosper a limited list of an opportunities and threats that should be avoided. External
assessment is not aimed at developing an extensive list of every possible factor that could affect the
business. External environment of an organizations are factors that affect the company s ability to
function. The importance of external environment and their effect on the expansion of marketing
planning is crucial and should be reviewed by an organization wising to be profitable in the market. A
firm should have a mind that effective marketing strategies could not be developed without the
analysis of external environment in which the company operates. The external environment for a

The Definition Of Allusion Problems

techniques have been used to prove the uniform convergence of the numerical method defined for

Analysis Of The Road By Cormac Mccarthy
A man and a boy trudge along the road in a desolate, crumbling world. Everything that once was has
diminished, and hope for the future is bleak. All that s left to do in this dystopian world is to survive.
Cormac McCarthy s The Road, follows the journey of a father and son clinging to life after a series of
catastrophic events. Together they must salvage any remaining food and other necessities they need to
sustain themselves. Day in day out, the pair trek down the road, hoping to reach the sea and find some
beacon of life. However, their slim hopes vanquish when they reach their destination and find nothing
but traces of death and destruction. The Man and The Boy continue their aimless journey along the
road, emaciated and barely alive, but still unwilling to give up on life. McCarthy stripes down all the
traditional elements of literature and forms a simplistic novel, leaving the story naked, just like the
setting in his post apocalyptic, The Road. Despite numerous scholars who insist Cormac McCarthy s
pen richly doused The Road with symbolism and metaphors, McCarthy straightforwardly intended his
novel to simply be a story about a man and a boy traveling along a road. In fact, McCarthy carefully
constructed his novel in a bare, stripped down form to ...mirror the world it describes (Hobby). With
special attention to detail, Cormac McCarthy rebirthed the traditional novel and gave life to a creation
of his own. Despite over analyzers of The Road, his intentions were not to develop a probing novel,
but to take elaborate techniques and form a simple story. In a 2007 Book Club interview with Oprah
Winfrey, McCarthy disclosed, Oh it s just a boy and a man on the road. You can obviously draw
conclusions...depending on your taste. It s a pretty simple story I think (Lincoln 163).
In The Road, McCarthy utilizes basic sentence structure and phrasing to emphasize the simplicity of
the novel. Not only does he rely on his uncomplex style, but the use of fragmented sentences as well.
One example of the novel s plethora of fragments is, The segments of road down there among the
dead trees. Looking for anything of color. Any movement. Any trace of standing smoke (McCarthy 4).

Theories and Theory Combination
Theory is brought to bear to illumine and improve practice. However, a single theory is incomplete
and partial. Therefore, practitioners need to employ various theories in combination without paying
the full prices of their incompleteness and partially (Schwab, 1969/ 1978, p.297). Theory is an idea
which used to clarify and justify phenomenon. It is also used to advocate truth of certain practices and
procedures. Nevertheless improvement and enhancement cannot be implemented with a single theory.
There are few weaknesses of single theory; firstly the edifice of a theory is not sufficed or inadequate
to address teaching and learning problems. Each theory can only be applied to certain circumstances.
For instance, how to teach mathematic if the students are unable to understand? One theory is unable
to address because each theory have different kind of solution. Secondly although some theories are
borrowed in a chosen subject matter which is appropriate yet are questionable because some are
doctrinaire because of the personalities and others. Lastly, the theories borrowed although may
sufficient but it is focused only in a subject matter. In reality, the theory which looks into a subject
matter is not enough without including other subject matter. For instant Nel Noddings (1984a) is fore

Oppression is the driving force behind the violence in Israel. It is based on a land dispute that led to
oppression and now the violence seen today. Israel is plagued with a cycle of violence and fear. There
are many factors behind the climate of terror that is taking place in Israel, but none as significant as
oppression. The establishment of Israel by Jews led to many changes for Palestinian Arabs, who were
already living in the area. Many of these changes were oppressive and intrusive to the Palestinian
Arabs way of life. As can be expected, wherever there is oppression, violence and fear normally
follow. Both sides have suffered losses amidst this violence. Jews claim they fled to Palestine to avoid
persecution and that establishing Israel as a Jewish state would be the only way to ensure their safety.
Yet their safety, and now the safety of Palestinian Arabs, are both unsure. In the late 1800 s, Jews
across Europe began fleeing to Palestine to avoid anti Semitism and persecution. During this era, there
was a movement known as the Zionist; the Zionists wanted to return to the Jewish Holy Land to
establish a Jewish state that would serve as a sanctuary for Jews. However, according to the State of
Israel Proclaimed (State), at this time the Zionist leadership was unable to persuade the Ottoman
Empire to grant them a charter. The following decades would see sporadic migration of Jews into
Palestine. World War I brought about more change in Palestine, including

Foils In Beowulf
Foils in literature are characters that contrast another character, highlighting important traits or flaws.
Foils are often mine characters that are polarized from the main protagonist/antagonist. In Beowulf,
Unferth is the foil to the hero, Beowulf; he s a complete opposite to the hero. Unferth is jealous and
seeks to disparage Beowulf, has lesser morals and isn t a hero. When Beowulf arrived, Unferth was
immediately jealous of him for his infamy, with Beowulf s coming, / his sea braving, [making] him
sick with envy: / he could not brook or abide the fact / that anyone else alive under heaven might
enjoy greater regard that he did (44). Unferth wanted to remain the hero for his people, and felt

The Woman Warrior and The Interesting Narrative Essay
The Woman Warrior and The Interesting Narrative
In both The Woman Warrior and The Interesting Narrative, the authors inspect the issue of one s
cultural identity by way of the telling of their own story, and how it has affected them. By telling their
stories as persons who have emerged themselves into a new culture, but at the same retained vestiges
of the old, Olaudah Equiano and Maxine Kingston are exemplifying a duality in cultural identity, that
is often times lost.
Before continuing, though, it is important to clarify the definition of cultural identity, at least for this
paper. One s cultural identity is the way one sees oneself in terms of the cultures and societies that
they have come from. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This personal connection to the native culture is an important part to any cultural identity, because it
provides a means of introspection, an ability to determine one s perception of oneself. The ability to
perceive oneself is important because it permits one to look at and choose to discard or retain parts of
one s various cultures into one s personal cultural identity.
However, in other aspects, Equiano is able to better explore portions of his cultural identity, because
he has made a direct personal connection to the culture. In this case, it is the slave culture that he was
forced into. Because of the intense experiences he has within this culture, it plays a large role in his
cultural identity. These experiences include his numerous journeys on his masters ships, which
combined with his religious explorations at the time led him to desire to become an Englishman. At
the same time, they allowed him to create a broader identity, because he saw the connections between
himself and other cultures (such as Turkish and Jewish cultures of the time.)
The second crucial factor in determining the cultural identity, and is shown in The Interesting
Narrative, is the time that one is exposed to a culture. It is not difficult to determine that in Equiano it
appears his native culture had little direct impact on him. In the narrative, he makes little to no
mention of his home, his native country, or anything related to them. This

Moro history and aspirations of an independent state, among themselves. Thus was the conception of
the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF). This group of 90 later became the hardcore of the

People s Daily usually regarded as the government s voice published an opinion piece titled The

The Joker In The Clown Prince Of Crime
The Joker is often understood as Batman s antithesis, as the yang to his yin, as the agent of chaos that
threatens his need for order. Thus, while they function as opposites, they are also intrinsically tied to
each other. In the case of the Clown Prince of Crime, Batman s true nemesis, this Trickster like quality
is relevant. The Joker is a particular kind of commentary on Batman, one that essentially derives from
the characters antithetical logics (order vs chaos). The Joker is not only a counter to Batman, but a
satirical figure in which a subversive attitude towards contemporary society is realized. In this role,
the Joker figure s origin and history is clearly referenced. The Jokers a fool, prankster, jester, trickster,
clown; the derivations of the fool archetype are many, but joining them together is a sense of mischief
and a ridicule of authority. In the many incarnations of the Joker, these characteristics vary
considerably in both degree and force, making the character quite versatile. There is, for example, a
significant difference in tone between Cesar Romero s comic Joker of the campy 1960s Batman
television series and film, and Heath Ledger s portrayal of a sardonic psychopath in The Dark Night.

psychological level, but he wears the face of comedy. It is this dialectic between these two traits, the

Behavioral Treatments For Substance Use Disorders
Despite advances in pharmacotherapies over the last few decades, behavioral treatments remain an
important component, and often the only evidenced based component, for the treatment of various
substance use disorders. Among those with the strongest level of empirical support from randomized
clinical trials are 1) contingency management, where abstinence or other targeted outcomes are
reinforced with incentives (Higgins et al., 1991; Petry, 2006), 2) cognitive behavioral therapy, which
teaches specific strategies and skills to reduce substance use (Carroll et al., 1994), and 3) motivational
interviewing, where a specific, nonjudgmental interviewing style is used to enhance motivation and
harness the patient s capacity for change (Hettema et al., 2005; Miller, 1985). However, despite the
established efficacy of behavioral treatments for substance use disorders, their widespread efficacy is
hampered by the considerable cost and resources needed for successful implementation. Thus, more
efficient ways to implement behavioral treatments are needed and in an effort to do so, it is important
to better understand how and when the treatments work. This information can then be used to
maximize the effects and develop a more targeted approach. One strategy is through understanding the
cognitive mechanisms underlying the effectiveness of behavioral treatments, which can ultimately be
used to develop cognitive enhancement based interventions to supplement standard behavioral
therapies.

heroes, living among ordinary people, have paved the roads of today s world. One person who has
exactly done this and not received nearly enough credit is Jackie Robinson. When people think of
Jackie Robinson they think of the man who stole second base continuously, when in reality he did

April 15 was Opening Day in 1947, Robinson s first season in the Major Leagues. Initiated for the
first time on April 15, 2004, Jackie Robinson Day is celebrated each year on that day. The festivity is a
result of Robinson s memorable career, best known for becoming the first black major league baseball
player of the modern era in 1947. His debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers (today known as the Los
Angeles Dodgers) ended approximately eighty years of baseball segregation, also known as the
baseball colour line, or colour barrier. He also was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962,
remembered for his services with the number 42 jersey. The gala is celebrated at varied ballparks by
Major League team players. On that one day, all players, coaches, and managers on both teams, and
the umpires, wear #42 on their jerseys. Shea Stadium was one of the prominent venues hosting the
event, having commemorated the retirement of Robinson s number 42 jersey in 1997. Bob DuPuy, the
President and Chief Operating Officer of Major League baseball, described Jackie Robinson Day as a
significance not only for baseball, but for our country in general. Being a sportswoman myself and
growing up in an environment where there is sports politics everywhere, I can see how feed up Jackie
must of been with the hatred he was receiving from players and fans. For a man to go through all of

justify his testimony? How do the acts of these men compare.

So Terry went to seeit.A final reason for his testimony is because Johnny Friendly is a corrupt person
and he and his thugs were a bad influence on the people in the waterfront.
For Kazan, just like Molloy, he testified against the communist party or named names as the past

themselves were communist. I believed it was the right thing to do, at the time, being a member of the

Section 41 Sale Of Immovable Property By An Ostensible Owner
Section 41 Sale of immovable property by an ostensible owner
General rules
There are some very general rules of transfer of property.
i.) Nemo plus juris ad alium transferee potest quam ipsa habet (no man can transfer a right or title
greater than what he himself has).Where a thief sold a property then the same purchaser doesn t hold
the right over the land because from whom they have purchased the land doesn t himself holds title to
the property. ii.) Non dat qui non habet (no one can give who does not possess).
But one of the exceptions to these general rules of transfer of property is when with the consent of the
real owner , a person transfers the property in the name of other where the purchaser has reasonably
ascertained the validity of the title of the land and has purchased it in good faith.
This ground of exception was found in in Ram Coomar v. Mc Queen ,in the following words :
It is a principle of natural equity which must be universally applicable, that where one man allows
another to hold himself out as the owner of an estate and a third person purchases it, for value, from
the apparent owner in the belief that he is the real owner, the man who so allows the other to hold
himself out shall not be permitted to recover upon a secret title, unless he can overthrow that of the
purchaser by showing, either that he had direct notice or something which amounts to constructive
notice, of the real title; or that there existed circumstances which ought to

The Discovery Of Ancient Egyptian Art
The first time I saw this topic on Unit 2:Egypt, a beautiful quote came to my mind from Pablo Picasso.
He once said that Painting is just another way of keeping a diary , and even though, we know a little
bit about Nebamun, by what I perceived from the paintings or frescoes found in his tomb is that,
Nebamun was a nobleman during the new kingdom. And to understand Ancient Egyptian art it must
be viewed from the point of Ancient Egyptians noblemen. My goal of this essay is to tell my readers
what mean the frescoes in the Tomb of Nebamun and how two of the frescoes found in the Tomb of
Nebamun: hunting birds and Female musicians and dancers entertaining guests at a meal tell us about
Egyptian daily life. To achieve this goal, I have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before I begin explaining about the frescoes, I would like to explain the technique used in the
paintings found on the Tomb of Nebamun. It is called Fresco and according to Sayre is a technique
used for painting on walls. The wet plaster is applied to a section of a wall that is small enough to stay
wet while the artist works on it. Then the artist mixes pigments or dry color with limewater and
applies the paint to the wet wall. The wet plaster soaks up the wet pigment, so the painting becomes
part of the wall. (Cave Paintings to Picasso 15). Now that we have learned about the frescoes, it is
time to focus our attention on the first section, Thebes is the Greek name for a city in Ancient Egypt,
known as Waset, located about 800 km south of the Mediterranean, on the east bank of the river Nile.
In this place, we can find at least 415 known and unknown tombs of the Egyptians, and most of them
are painted with beautiful frescoes. According to Sporre, the painted tombs of Thebes provide most of
our knowledge of Egyptian painting for the period of the New Kingdom, which lasted from around
1575 to 1000 B.C.E (39). This, like almost all Egypt art, compromises funerary art, and it reinforces
the concept of religion as a pervasive force in Egyptian life. For the first time in history, we find in
Theban tombs representations of the gods. The paintings also portray the vivacity and humor of daily
life. Theban tombs portray workmen and peasants differently

Almost everyone goes through this at some point of their lives, and you are not judged or
discriminated upon. When you are very sick and unable to take care of yourself and can t do things on
your own, it is the nurse s job to take care of you. The nurses use a thermometer to check their patient
s temperature and give them food to help them heal and recover. On the other hand, when doctors
need to cure you or prevent you from a disease or illness, they insert needles to cure that disease, or
make you immune to it to help you stay healthy. The reason all the Nacirema assumptions seem
bizarre to us is because hospitals aren t that extreme, or don t seem that way to us. People strip their
clothes and lather their bodies with a greasy like substance. They then lay in a bright spaceship for a
little bit while the spaceship cooks them until people are golden brown, or burnt. But that s not the
only thing they do that s strange. They pour on their bodies a sticky honey like paste, and cover
themselves with a sheet. The sheet is then ripped off of the people, tearing off a layer of skin which
makes blood spill out, and you look as red as a tomato. These examples can be related to the two
tenets of how the body is ugly, and dirty. The body is ugly because people look like disgustingly

hard problem being to understand how and why we have phenomenal experiences or qualia and how
all of this should be associated with consciousness at all: why aren t we just machines, without any

complex of physical, chemical, and biotic factors (as climate, soil, and living things) that act upon an
organism or an ecological community and ultimately determine its form and survival

the environment and the human race. Resources, such as timber and oil for housing and heat, soil for

Families can plant their own fruit and vegetable gardens and trees in order to reduce pesticides and
pollution caused by distribution. Recycling is an excellent option for families as it helps to reduce the
amount of waste produced. Families can conserve energy by managing their energy use effectively
and purchasing energy efficient products. There is a wide variety of opportunities for families to be
able to make their homes more environmentally friendly and positively contribute to worldwide green
initiative (http://thegreenblogger.com/going green/Humans have a responsibility to take proper care of
the planet in order to ensure preservation and conservation for present and future inhabitants). Mark
Van Bebber, in his essay, What is man s responsibility to the environment? says, In order to
understand our responsibility, it is important to comprehend the original relationship between man and
nature. Genesis 1:26 28 tells us that God created man and woman in His image and gave them
dominion over all the earth. This included all the animals that God had created as well as the entire
earth. God also charged their descendants with the care for all the earth (Gen. 1:28). Even after the
curse, God never withdrew this responsibility. We must care for the world that God has given to us.
Although Scriptures are in general agreement with many of the ecology groups that man is responsible

Flannery O Connor s A Good Man
Flannery O Connor has written multiple books about the two topics she knows best, southern living
and the Catholic religion. Most of her writings focus on humanity s biggest question. What is required
to attain salvation? Growing up as a devout Roman Catholic, O Connor is able to shed some light into
a question that even scholars in the Christian faith are unable to answer. Although O Connor has
multiple books, the one that answers the many questions surrounding salvation best, is A Good Man is
Hard to Find. Throughout A Good Man is Hard to Find, Flannery O Connor provides her readers with
multiple allegories that allude to her belief that humans are nothing more than fallen, depraved
creatures capable of redemption and salvation. In the beginning of the story, O Connor introduces a
somewhat typical family preparing for vacation with their grandmother. During their preparation, the
family illustrates just how disjointed and manipulative they truly are. In fact, in an attempt to get her
own way, the grandmother tries to scare the family into going to Tennessee with the news of a killer
who escaped prison. Here this fellow that calls himself The Misfit is aloose from the Federal Pen and
headed toward Florida and you read here what it says he did to these people .(575)
Before the family gets too far in their awkward journey, O Connor tips off her readers of the eventual
future for the family. Foreshadowing is used when the family passes an old burial ground with six,

America has expanded so much over the last decades. People are living longer due to advancements in

impact is tremendously felt in the health care settings of hospitals. Hospitals are having a difficult time
accommodating patients. Hospital department leaders, are responsible for management performance in
their hospital, there are several reasons why emergency department crowding should be at the head of
the hospital improvement efforts. The purpose of this paper is to address those issue.

In order to fix the situation if a bed is not available patients could be treated in the hall depending on
the problem at hand. Unfortunately, the down side is for women requiring an examination she will
have to wait until a room is available. Likewise, some hospitals are handling patients more speedily by
using a team method approach. Resulting, in a patient being seen by a doctor, nurse and registration
nurse immediately. Due to the fact that, he or she can order needed tests and procedures as well as
quickly treat patients if necessary (Marte, 2013). Majority of the hospitals today are advertising their
wait times on a website. Hoping to allure people to their facility and not their competitors. In doing so
by lowering the emergency room wait times. All in the effect of a pay for performance system
established by the Affordable Care Act. Medicare disbursements to hospitals are somewhat based on
patient fulfillment ( E R Wait Time, n.d. ).
Another area that needs correction is the way information is shared between healthcare professionals.
Years ago a patient s files were paper notes that were actually stored on the premises of a physician. In
the recent year s patient s information from hospitals, doctors offices, and medical centers store health
information electronically ( Kids Health from Nemours,

Respondeat superior is latin for let the master answer . This is a doctrine that suggests that an
employer is responsible for an employees actions. In the United States, most employers are liable for
the actions of employees performed during their length of employment. This is necessary and a

Fifth Business Character Analysis
Fifth Business is the first book of Robertson Davies Deptford Trilogy. The novel is a memoir of
Dunstable Ramsay, the protagonist, in the form of a letter to the school s headmaster. Many characters
play a huge significant role in Dunstable s life as he develops, however, many of those people are
women. Leading examples of this are Fiona Ramsay, his mother; Mary Dempster, the woman who
changed his life; Diana Marfleet, his nurse and meaningful love; and Liselotte Vitzliputzli, his source
of therapy and inspiration. Dunstable s mother is someone who is a salient part of his development,
and shapes him into the person he is later on in the novel. She is determined, strict, controlling, and
places herself above God in Dunstable s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is a source to the development of Dunstable for a couple of reasons. A link emerges between
Dunstable Ramsay and Mary when she is hit in the head with a snowball thrown by Percy Boyd
Staunton, which was intended for Dunstable. The snowball that hit Mary causes her to go into labour,
and she gives birth to her premature baby, Paul Dempster. Dunstable is forever filled with guilt
although he had no control whatsoever when the incident occurred. This guilt eventually leads to
Dunstable developing feelings for Mary Dempster, even though she is ten years older than him. His
loyalty for Mary Dempster is at the same degree as his mother, or perhaps more. When Dunstable is at
the Third Battle of Ypres, he loses his leg after he takes down German snipers. While Dunstable lies
down wounded, he sees Mary Dempster s face on the statue of The Little Madonna. But what hit me
worse than the blow of shrapnel was that the face was Mrs. Dempster s face . (Davies, 74) Almost half
a year after, he wakes up from a coma in a hospital where he meets his nurse, Diana Marfleet. He
recollects what happened during the war and becomes a hagiographer. This is a significant facet of the
person that he grows to be. Furthermore, when Mary Dempster s illness aggravates, aunt Bertha who
was taking good care of her passes away. Aunt Bertha hands Mary s fortune to Dunstable, and he must
take legal custody of her as a

The Effects of Nature and Nurture in Middle Childhood
The Effects of Nature and Nurture in Middle Childhood Middle Childhood is the name given for the
age division from 6 to 11 years of a child s life. They are also known as the school years. During this
time a child s health, education, and emotional well being are all undergoing changes. Though not as
drastic as the changes they will soon face in adolescence, they are steady, and the impact that nature
and nurture will have on these aspects reach far and wide across the many developments they face in
their lives. Heath is of the utmost importance in raising a child, and is the biggest factor of a child s
physical development in middle childhood. When a child is receiving the proper nutrition he or she
needs, they grow at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With healthy children physical activity and exercise is key, and there are many forms of it, such as
sports, physical education, and rough and tumble play. A dominance hierarchy is established through
rough and tumble play. Through this activity, it becomes clear who is the stronger child, which is a
way in which nature helps define who is the leader in a group friends, and who would win, should a
conflict arise. Rough and tumble play is common in school recesses, where children are developing
cognitively. If a child has been to preschool before, chances are, they ll be ahead of the curve a bit
when learning to solve problems, and learning how to read and write. This is another major way in
which nurture has its effects on a child s outcome in development. If a child has received enough
attention, and has been read to, then they are perfectly ready to solve problems rationally, in an
organized way. While at this point it is mostly up to the child to engage in memory strategies like
rehearsal, and organization, it is also up to the parents to impose the proper discipline to make sure
that their child uses a part of their time after school to use these strategies to help them study for a test.
If a child is raised in a low SES environment, where they may be left home alone, for a length of time
after they ve arrived home from school, the child may be watching TV or doing something else while
unsupervised. Learning can be influenced positively

Ritual Use of Cacao in Maya Civilization
Ritual Use of Cacao in Maya Civilization This paper aims to explore and confirm the ceremonial and
ritual importance of Theobroma cacao to the Maya civilization and its various uses therein. Firstly, I
will provide a brief overview of the cultural history of cacao, which is known as kakaw in the Maya
language. Next, I will examine the connection between cacao and ancient Maya religion, which is the
basis for its importance to the Maya culture. I will then discuss the ritual and ceremonial significance
of cacao and its forms of use, based on the analysis of Maya hieroglyphs and iconography, as well as
ethnohistorical, ethnographic, and other historical accounts, and the recent research by archaeologists
who have found cacao residues in ancient pottery. The cacao tree (Theobroma cacao L.) is native to
the northwest Amazon basin of South America and the wild species was spread by humans into
Southern Mexico and Central America, where it is thought to have been domesticated (Ogata et al.
2006). The data collected by Ogata et al. (2006) supports Mesoamerica as a center of cacao
domestication, but also suggests a possible secondary area of domestication in South America. At first,
only the cacao pulp was used for its sweet flavour, yet it wasn t until 1800 BC that the inhabitants of
this region discovered how to turn the cacao seeds into chocolate through a process of drying,
roasting, and grinding the cacao seeds (Coe and Coe 1996). By the time the Olmec civilization

Essay on Salvation on Sand Mountain by Dennis Covington
Dennis Covington writes about a unique method of worship snake handling, in his memoir, Salvation
on Sand Mountain. He begins as a journalist, looking in on this foreign way of life; however, as time
progresses he increasing starts to feel a part of this lifestyle. As a result loses his journalistic approach,
resulting in his memoir, detailing his own spiritual journey. Upon the conclusion of his stay in this
world, Covington realizes the significance of this journey, and argues in his memoir that we cannot
entirely know ourselves until we step outside of our comfort zone and separate ourselves from our
norm. It is almost as if Covington was in a dream or some sort of trance throughout this whole
experience. He begins as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Allowing himself to be pulled into this world says a lot about the author s character: it is almost as if
he is vulnerable, and this vulnerability in some cases can be seen as a weakness. However, this
vulnerable act allowed him to find himself and strengthen his previous beliefs and attitude. According
to Aristotle, authors have an ethical obligation to have a strong ethos: this entails authors to have
intelligence, rectitude, and goodwill, and Covington expresses this throughout his entire memoir. Even
though, at the beginning he does not understand their behavior, and after he is embarrassed and
virtually kicked out of the society, he is able to write the truth about the handlers with the utmost
respect. Yes, he exposes many aspects of the handlers lives, but he does so in a respectful and
journalistic manner: it is clear that the information he divulges is essential to the reader understanding
the true meaning of his argument. The author does not purposely try to portray these people in the best
light possible, but rather the most ingenuous way. He demonstrates his goodwill by remaining
impartial during most of the memoir: occasionally he allows his emotions to effect his depiction of the
characters; however, this is almost impossible to achieve, because he interacted with these people and
was reacting to certain situations.
Covington writes this memoir for many reasons: he writes in order publicize this exclusive

  • 2. Method Under Uncertain Conditions By Generating Fuzzy... Sqfe method Under Uncertain Conditions by Generating Fuzzy Membership Function Abstract: The quality based approach SQFE (Suivi Qualite Par le Fournisseur Exterieur) has been introduced by three automotive corporations to measure the quality of supplier products. This approach proposes a general criterion by which inspection samples are classified to different demerit categories with different weights, to compute mean unit demerit for each measurable quality characteristic. However, the assignment of an actual and crisp demerit weight to each sample is unrealistic, in the face of the unavoidable measurement errors as well as the inevitable uncertainty involved in human judgment. In this paper an improved estimation procedure which is based on fuzzy logic instead of bivalent logic, is presented to calculate s. The fuzzy set theory is used to add more accuracy and flexibility to the analysis. For this aim, likelihood view has been adapted to generate fuzzy membership function, in order to assign the appropriate demerit weight to each sample. In addition, a numerical example that evaluates products based on the proposed method and compares it with the current standard procedure is presented. INTRODUCTION Many kinds of classification systems have been provided in various military and International organizations for Standardization (ISO)such as, quality rating systems which have been applied and extended to define, classify, and evaluate none conformities ... • 3. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Steel In the late 19th century, the US Navy was falling behind the rest of the world when it came to the use of new technology, so in 1883, legislation authorized the development of modern steel warships. This move lead to the great battleships of WWII and even the ships that fight today. The steel armor plating of these ships provides great strength and longevity that is needed for their jobs. Steel is one of the most popular materials in the world due to its high strength and low cost. It is used in many different objects and scenarios, from buildings, machines, and tools to weapons, vehicles, and of course, ships. Steel also has different types, whether it be carbon steel, alloy steel, or stainless steel. The primary type of steel used for battleships has been nickel steel, or an iron nickel alloy. • 4. Gettysburg Movie Historical Analysis With Hollywood producers jumping all over the idea of making historical wars and battles come to life on the big screen, many times fabricated and over the top details are added to enhance the overall plots. Keeping this in mind, I analyzed the movie Gettysburg, directed by Ronald F. Maxwell, for historical accuracies. The battle of Gettysburg was the bloodiest battle in American history, many movies have been made to re enact the horrors that unraveled within those days; however, many of them are incorrect. The movie Gettysburg, directed by Ronald F. Maxwell, seems to be mostly accurate with the historical events. The defense of Little Round Top was a pivotal moment within the battle of Gettysburg, the winner of this skirmish would decide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the main attack for which the 20th Maine regiment has been preparing for. During this clash, there are multiple waves that the regiment has to defend against. The director is trying to convey a point to the audience concerning the sheer numbers of the Confederate army by visually creating multiple wave attacks. The 20th Maine regiment is also a massive army especially with the extra help given delivered by, ... 120 three year enlistees from the 2nd Maine Infantry were marched under guard into the regimental area of the 20th Maine. The 2nd Maine men were in a state of mutiny and refused to fight... (Brann). For the production sake of the film, only six men could represent the historically accurate number of 120 men. In the film, Chamberlain talked to these men, saying, Any of you fellas care to join us, any man who joins us now there will be no court marshal (Gettysburg). The director is trying to make it seem like this bit of help is substantially aiding the 20th regiment without having to cast the massive numbers of people. In the article, The Battle of Gettysburg , it tells more about the numbers, explaining how, On the second day of battle, the Union defended a fishhook shaped range of hills and ridges south of Gettysburg with around 90,000 soldiers. Confederates essentially wrapped around the Union position with 70,000 soldiers (The Battle of Gettysburg). The massive amount of numbers obviously could not be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Language In My Fair Lady Abstract: A language is a system of conventional signals used for communication by a whole community A. C. Gimson. Language is an essential tool for communication as well as for self expression. Language can be considered as a habit which is not genetically transmitted. It is acquired from the environment and therefore it is always subject to change. Language and linguistics go hand in hand. Language is a network of varieties and linguistics is the discipline that deals with the scientific study of language and its variations like dialect, registers, pidgin, Creole, etc. The purpose of this study is to explore the importance of the movie My Fair Lady in the study of Linguistics. A simple example for the above statement is a comparison between a news covered by a news channel and a newspaper. The news covered by the news channel would be more influential as it includes the video clips along with the news scrolls and the reporter s narration, which creates an effect on the audience that makes them feel as if they are witnessing the incident live, whereas, the one covered by the newspaper will simply act as third person narrative to the audience. Similarly, there are many text books and reference books that deal with the study of linguistics. But the movie My Fair Lady is an excellent example, that gives the students of linguistics an idea about the benefits of learning it properly and that gives the teachers of linguistics an idea about how to teach it effectively. This study will work on understanding how the movie My Fair Lady depicts the power and beauty of the English language through the life of a linguist and his student and the impact it has on the study of linguistics. It will also analyze how different researchers have viewed this movie as a helpful tool in the study of linguistics. • 6. Michelle Obama Hillary Clinton Given the closing in 2016 presidential election, both candidates have been working hard to convince the citizens of the United States that they are the optimal decision for President. Both, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have been in constant turmoil in creating promotional advertisements and speeches as to why they should be chosen to lead the country. Hillary Clinton, a long time politician and Secretary of State, who received the unequivocal backing of the current President of the United States and the First Lady. The First Lady implements allusion to accordingly compare Secretary Clinton to great leaders from the past. She achieves this goal, by emphasizing that she wants a leader who truly believes in the vision that our Founders put forth all those years ago. . . (Obama 22). Michelle Obamas allusion to the Founding Fathers and their ideals help to establish a connection between Clinton and the leaders that forged the nation. Including this comparison helps to guide the audience to collate their knowledge of the Founding Fathers and apply it to Hillary Clinton. This citation becomes particularly significant when the First Lady uses people that are so highly respected, such as the Founding Fathers, to compare to Secretary Clinton. As a result, Michelle Obama is able to successfully enhance the image of Hillary Clinton in the eyes of her audience. Nevertheless, Michelle Obama also uses allusions to downgrade the image of Clintons opponent, Donald Trump. The First lady explains how we should never . . .let anyone ever tell you that this country isn t great, that somehow we need to make it great again (Obama 29). Michelle Obama ameliorates Clintons image, by alluding to a negative persona of her rival. The First Lady utilizes Donald Trump s campaign slogan to institute that America is already great within itself, and the nation does not need Trump to make it great again . This tactic supports Michelle Obamas claim by altering the audiences view point of Donald Trump and his slogan. The audience will now perceive Trump as someone who does not believe that America is or could be great , without him. Therefore, the First Lady accurately alludes to Clintons rival in a demeaning manner to boost Clintons own image. Michelle Obamas use of allusion aids in modifying the persona of both candidates to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Who knows what pain and misery I am going through in my life at the moment! However, who, after all, has not worn a mask on occasion to conceal their frustration and disappointment? One particular group in our society who were forced to wear a mask to conceal with true feelings about their situation, was African Americans during the fight for civil rights. As communicated through the people, African Americans wore masks that grin and smile but behind all those grins and smiles, hearts are torn and souls miserably tortured. Furthermore, the speaker tells us that wearer of the mask wants freedom from the people who are full of guile and force them to wear mask just to lie. They need to become free from all this mistreatment and discrimination. They want to have the same rights and equality as the rest of the people in this world. It is important to note that when you specifically know Dunbar s background, you are able to make this specific meaning about the plight of African Americans, however this poem also has a universal nature. The room reeks of body odour and a strong metallic smell, which follows more often than not after injuries take place. The familiar smell of blood is now an unpleasant effluvium that I recognise all too well nowadays. External assessment is not aimed at developing an extensive list of every possible factor that could affect the business. External environment of an organizations are factors that affect the company s ability to function. The importance of external environment and their effect on the expansion of marketing planning is crucial and should be reviewed by an organization wising to be profitable in the market. • 18. Analysis Of The Road By Cormac Mccarthy A man and a boy trudge along the road in a desolate, crumbling world. Everything that once was has diminished, and hope for the future is bleak. All that s left to do in this dystopian world is to survive. Cormac McCarthy s The Road, follows the journey of a father and son clinging to life after a series of catastrophic events. Together they must salvage any remaining food and other necessities they need to sustain themselves. Day in day out, the pair trek down the road, hoping to reach the sea and find some beacon of life. However, their slim hopes vanquish when they reach their destination and find nothing but traces of death and destruction. The Man and The Boy continue their aimless journey along the road, emaciated and barely alive, but still unwilling to give up on life. McCarthy stripes down all the traditional elements of literature and forms a simplistic novel, leaving the story naked, just like the setting in his post apocalyptic, The Road. Despite numerous scholars who insist Cormac McCarthy s pen richly doused The Road with symbolism and metaphors, McCarthy straightforwardly intended his novel to simply be a story about a man and a boy traveling along a road. In fact, McCarthy carefully constructed his novel in a bare, stripped down form to ...mirror the world it describes (Hobby). With special attention to detail, Cormac McCarthy rebirthed the traditional novel and gave life to a creation of his own. Despite over analyzers of The Road, his intentions were not to develop a probing novel, but to take elaborate techniques and form a simple story. In a 2007 Book Club interview with Oprah Winfrey, McCarthy disclosed, Oh it s just a boy and a man on the road. You can obviously draw conclusions...depending on your taste. It s a pretty simple story I think (Lincoln 163). In The Road, McCarthy utilizes basic sentence structure and phrasing to emphasize the simplicity of the novel. Not only does he rely on his uncomplex style, but the use of fragmented sentences as well. One example of the novel s plethora of fragments is, The segments of road down there among the dead trees. Therefore, practitioners need to employ various theories in combination without paying the full prices of their incompleteness and partially (Schwab, 1969/ 1978, p.297). Theory is an idea which used to clarify and justify phenomenon. It is also used to advocate truth of certain practices and procedures. Nevertheless improvement and enhancement cannot be implemented with a single theory. There are few weaknesses of single theory; firstly the edifice of a theory is not sufficed or inadequate to address teaching and learning problems. Each theory can only be applied to certain circumstances. For instance, how to teach mathematic if the students are unable to understand? One theory is unable to address because each theory have different kind of solution. Secondly although some theories are borrowed in a chosen subject matter which is appropriate yet are questionable because some are doctrinaire because of the personalities and others. Lastly, the theories borrowed although may sufficient but it is focused only in a subject matter. In reality, the theory which looks into a subject matter is not enough without including other subject matter. It is based on a land dispute that led to oppression and now the violence seen today. Israel is plagued with a cycle of violence and fear. The establishment of Israel by Jews led to many changes for Palestinian Arabs, who were already living in the area. Many of these changes were oppressive and intrusive to the Palestinian Arabs way of life. As can be expected, wherever there is oppression, violence and fear normally follow. Both sides have suffered losses amidst this violence. Jews claim they fled to Palestine to avoid persecution and that establishing Israel as a Jewish state would be the only way to ensure their safety. Yet their safety, and now the safety of Palestinian Arabs, are both unsure. In the late 1800 s, Jews across Europe began fleeing to Palestine to avoid anti Semitism and persecution. During this era, there was a movement known as the Zionist; the Zionists wanted to return to the Jewish Holy Land to establish a Jewish state that would serve as a sanctuary for Jews. The ability to perceive oneself is important because it permits one to look at and choose to discard or retain parts of one s various cultures into one s personal cultural identity. However, in other aspects, Equiano is able to better explore portions of his cultural identity, because he has made a direct personal connection to the culture. In this case, it is the slave culture that he was forced into. Because of the intense experiences he has within this culture, it plays a large role in his cultural identity. These experiences include his numerous journeys on his masters ships, which combined with his religious explorations at the time led him to desire to become an Englishman. At the same time, they allowed him to create a broader identity, because he saw the connections between himself and other cultures (such as Turkish and Jewish cultures of the time.) The second crucial factor in determining the cultural identity, and is shown in The Interesting Narrative, is the time that one is exposed to a culture. Behavioral Treatments For Substance Use Disorders Despite advances in pharmacotherapies over the last few decades, behavioral treatments remain an important component, and often the only evidenced based component, for the treatment of various substance use disorders. Among those with the strongest level of empirical support from randomized clinical trials are 1) contingency management, where abstinence or other targeted outcomes are reinforced with incentives (Higgins et al., 1991; Petry, 2006), 2) cognitive behavioral therapy, which teaches specific strategies and skills to reduce substance use (Carroll et al., 1994), and 3) motivational interviewing, where a specific, nonjudgmental interviewing style is used to enhance motivation and harness the patient s capacity for change (Hettema et al., 2005; Miller, 1985). However, despite the established efficacy of behavioral treatments for substance use disorders, their widespread efficacy is hampered by the considerable cost and resources needed for successful implementation. Thus, more efficient ways to implement behavioral treatments are needed and in an effort to do so, it is important to better understand how and when the treatments work. This information can then be used to maximize the effects and develop a more targeted approach. Then the artist mixes pigments or dry color with limewater and applies the paint to the wet wall. The wet plaster soaks up the wet pigment, so the painting becomes part of the wall. Through her efforts of philanthropy during her 28 years in the State of Florida, she worked in conjunction with local and regional non profit task forces dealing directly with hunger and homelessness of displaced children throughout South Florida and the islands of the Caribbean. Michelle launched a Food Pantry within the Safe House and offices of Children s Home Society, the largest counseling facility and adoption agency in the state of Florida. This was a pivotal and extremely influential move as now case workers going out to make site visits were able to identify situations where the only issue for these families was being under resourced. Because needs are usually delayed due to processing constraints, many families could go without immediately needed resources such as food and baby items for days. According to the Nacirema ritual article, they call hospitals a latipso, which is hospital spelt backwards without the H . They discuss and caricature the repulsive viewings on what they think goes on in hospitals (latipso s), or what they think they do. I will now tell you how in Miner s perspective, the body is ugly and how the body is dirty. In the Nacirema point of view this is how they see hospitals. When you are very sick and unable to take care of yourself and can t do things on your own, it is the nurse s job to take care of you. The nurses use a thermometer to check their patient s temperature and give them food to help them heal and recover. On the other hand, when doctors need to cure you or prevent you from a disease or illness, they insert needles to cure that disease, or make you immune to it to help you stay healthy. The reason all the Nacirema assumptions seem bizarre to us is because hospitals aren t that extreme, or don t seem that way to us. People strip their clothes and lather their bodies with a greasy like substance. They then lay in a bright spaceship for a little bit while the spaceship cooks them until people are golden brown, or burnt. But that s not the only thing they do that s strange. They pour on their bodies a sticky honey like paste, and cover themselves with a sheet. The sheet is then ripped off of the people, tearing off a layer of skin which makes blood spill out, and you look as red as a tomato. These examples can be related to the two tenets of how the body is ugly, and dirty. The body is ugly because people look like disgustingly brown and red bloody creatures, which are mentally deranged. He talks about the distinction, which is passed from Descartes, between the easy problem and the hard problem . The easy problem being to understand how the brain and the body give rise to perception, cognition, behaviour and learning. The hard problem being to understand how and why we have phenomenal experiences or qualia and how all of this should be associated with consciousness at all: why aren t we just machines, without any inner world/experiences? Most of her writings focus on humanity s biggest question. What is required to attain salvation? Growing up as a devout Roman Catholic, O Connor is able to shed some light into a question that even scholars in the Christian faith are unable to answer. Although O Connor has multiple books, the one that answers the many questions surrounding salvation best, is A Good Man is Hard to Find. Throughout A Good Man is Hard to Find, Flannery O Connor provides her readers with multiple allegories that allude to her belief that humans are nothing more than fallen, depraved creatures capable of redemption and salvation. Rough and tumble play is common in school recesses, where children are developing cognitively. Ritual Use of Cacao in Maya Civilization Ritual Use of Cacao in Maya Civilization This paper aims to explore and confirm the ceremonial and ritual importance of Theobroma cacao to the Maya civilization and its various uses therein. Firstly, I will provide a brief overview of the cultural history of cacao, which is known as kakaw in the Maya language. Next, I will examine the connection between cacao and ancient Maya religion, which is the basis for its importance to the Maya culture. I will then discuss the ritual and ceremonial significance of cacao and its forms of use, based on the analysis of Maya hieroglyphs and iconography, as well as ethnohistorical, ethnographic, and other historical accounts, and the recent research by archaeologists who have found cacao residues in ancient pottery. The cacao tree (Theobroma cacao L.) is native to the northwest Amazon basin of South America and the wild species was spread by humans into Southern Mexico and Central America, where it is thought to have been domesticated (Ogata et al. 2006). The data collected by Ogata et al. (2006) supports Mesoamerica as a center of cacao domestication, but also suggests a possible secondary area of domestication in South America. At first, only the cacao pulp was used for its sweet flavour, yet it wasn t until 1800 BC that the inhabitants of this region discovered how to turn the cacao seeds into chocolate through a process of drying, roasting, and grinding the cacao seeds (Coe and Coe 1996).
