Moral Responsibility In Susan Wolf s Analysis
In an attempt to explain moral responsibility, Susan Wolf puts forth a modified version of what she
calls the Deep Self View (DSV) first expounded on by Harry Frankfurt, Gary Watson and Charles
Taylor (Perry et al. 460 462). The key to her argument the condition of sanity; a deep self must be sane
in order to be considered morally responsible. However, I will argue that her attempt fails for the
following two reasons:
1. Wolf s definition of sanity is too vague and to be useful and relies on the collective view of lay
persons.
2. Wolf raises the bar of moral responsibility so high as to make it nearly impossible to reach and in
the process seems to defeat her own argument.
Wolf s attempt to make sense of DSV by creating her own definition of sanity (CITATION) does not
add clarity to DSV but instead creates more confusion. Her definition seems to rely too heavily on the
views of the general population for determining what is and is not sane (CITATION). What is sane
then ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
...the minimally sufficient ability cognitively and normatively to recognize and appreciate the world
for what it is (Perry et al. 465).
In other words, society at large is the yardstick for judging what is and is not to be considered sane
and acceptable behavior. While few would object to the role sanity plays in a person s moral
responsibility, Wolf s definition of the sane DSV is far too vague and subjective to be of any real
value.
So, if we accept Wolf s vague definition of the sane DSV and assume our view of the world is the
correct one, we may create even bigger problems. All too often the tyranny of the righteous majority
has violated the rights of the weak and savage minority. Therefore, it is my argument that Wolf s
definition of the sane DSV has the very real potential of creating even more Jo Jo s on an even larger
scale. Wolf acknowledges the difficulty of this objection and admits there are no satisfactory answers

which is now universally called gibbs free energy, it was called that in his honor. This principle related
to the tendency of physical or chemical systems to allow researchers to calculate changes in free

The four largest islands in Japan are Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, and Shikoku. Japan forms an arc in

strong expectations on women and men. Women are expected to marry in their 20 s, and take on the

Children Early Intervention Programs Essay
Nobody makes a conscious decision to be a bad parent. People often just lack the resources or skills
needed, they encounter other barriers, or make bad decisions along the way that result in the inability
to effectively parent a child, more often than not perpetuating their disadvantage for yet another
generation. Disadvantage allows poor social determinants to take hold. To break the cycle that is a root
cause of today s healthcare costs, we must find ways to finance programs that will inoculate
disadvantaged children against poor social determinants. While we can t mandate a certain degree of
financial stability, competency, and commitment to fully engage in the art/science of child rearing

resources based on social and even clinical needs, potentially even referring to special education for
an intellectual or developmental disability or for intensive in home treatment through a healthcare
provider if behaviors point to a mental health condition. It is imperative that the appropriate
interventions occur in a disadvantaged child s early years, when both cognitive and emotional
development are most easily influenced. For example, Strain Timm (2001) note that in addressing
behavior problems, the most effective interventions were those that occurred prior to school age (the
earlier the intervention, the better the outcomes) when parents received the appropriate guidance
needed to: be more vigilant in monitoring their child s activities, (b) assist other key persons in the
child s life to interact in a fashion consistent with the parents new interaction style, (c) help their child
to set self management goals, and (d) recruit family and community support for their child and
themselves. (para. 5) Of course, identifying a mechanism to finance the availability of these programs
nationwide is a mindboggling challenge. According to

Bonnie and Clyde Film
Genre categorization is important because it helps to organize and classify movies. People make a lot
of decisions based on the genre of the film; this is one of the main ways in which audiences select
what movie to see. Most genres follow the same theme, story formula, setting, and story formula. If
every genre followed the same set of rules one would think that after awhile these movies would
become predictable and therefore lose its spark. There is also the notion that people and society
change and evolve, making certain genres irrelevant and not relatable to the overall movie lover
population. So how do film makers who are known and generally stick to a certain genre, keep
audiences from losing interest? They simply evolve with society by changing the rules of a certain
genre and one way to do this is genre breaking. Genre breaking can be defined as a film that is
classified as a certain genre but breaks the genre tradition, by keeping the traditional theme of the
genre but changing the setting, presentation, and story formula. By doing this, the film still follows the
essential idea of the genre s traditional theme, but the way it goes about doing it is totally different and
can usually be seen as a parody.
The best example of genre breaking would be the film Bonnie and Clyde made in the 1967 by Arthur
Penn. Bonnie and Clyde is seen as a gangster film, and follows the overall theme of a gangster film.
The theme of a gangster film is the American Dream, which tries to

Essay on Analysis of Birches by Robert Frost
In the poem Birches by Robert Frost, Frost portrays the images of a child growing to adulthood
through the symbolism of aging birch trees. Through these images readers are able to see the reality of
the real world compared to there carefree childhood. The image of life through tribulation is the main
focal point of the poem and the second point of the poem is if one could revert back to the simpler
times of childhood. The language of the poem is entirely arranged through images, although it
contains some diction it lacks sound devices, metaphors, and similes compared to other published
works by Frost. The first half of the poems images are of life, coming of age, and death.
The first three lines in the poem represent the image of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are dragged to the withered bracken by the load, And they seem not to break; though once they
are bowed is an image of someone who has aged but not passed on yet. So low for long, they never
right themselves represents how they will never be able to relive their childhood. While the first half
of the poem deals with the coming of age the second half of the poem deals with childhood and
wanting to stay young for as long as possible. The first image of childhood by Frost is when Truth
broke in With all her matter of fact about the ice storm, I should prefer to have some boy bend them. A
boy bending the trees in stead of ice storm allows the tree to never age because they will always return
to their original shape and never break by the burden of a load. This is further expressed By riding
them down over and over again Until he took the stiffness out of them. Once the trees lose their
stiffness the boy can play on them repeatedly without having to worry about them breaking therefore
if they never shatter or falling then youthfulness will always be his. Finally Frost talks about how he
would like to go back to being a boy swinging and climbing on trees just as he did when he was
younger by saying So was I once myself a swinger of birches. And so I dream of going back to be. I d
like to get away from earth awhile And then come back to it and begin over . And life is too much

Was The Roaring Twenties Really Roaring
The Roaring Twenties was the period of that Great American Prosperity which was built on shaky
foundations. as J. Paul Getty would say. For the first time, more people lived in the city than on farms.
The economy was booming. So what makes the twenties so roaring? The Roaring Twenties were the
start of many important industries we have today, including automotive, radio, and fashion. The
automotive industry really took off during this time period. Henry Ford and Ford Motor Company
manufactured cars that became extremely popular. In 1913, Henry Ford created the first moving
assembly line for an entire automobile. It reduced the amount of time it took to make, therefore
making it possible to create more cars. This was also the time period that

A Modern Artist From Norway
Edvard Munch, a modern artist from Norway, born in Løten in Hedmark on 12 December 1863. He

family but instead turn out to be quite the opposite. As a child he suffered from chronic asthmatic
bronchitis and rheumatic fever debilitating most of his childhood. Surrounded by death, Munch
witnessed the passing of most of his family. One by one his mother, sister, and even Munch himself
suffered from Tuberculosis, however, he would be the only one to survive it. Tragedy did not stop

Munch would always be reminded of his family s death, their torment followed his shadow and further
encroached on his mind the more time went on. Various styles, motifs, and paintings from artists such
as Claude Monet and Eugène Carrière inspired his work. However, Carrière s Sick Child, 1885 would
be a pivoting point in influencing his own painting of the same name. One of Munch s first work that
showed his notorious style can be seen in The Sick Child, 1886 painting just a year after Carrière s.
His painting depicts his sister Sophie bedridden from Tuberculosis and his mother mourning beside
her waiting for her to pass. He paints in a very melancholy tone and the color gives the viewer the
impression of sickness and sorrow. He expresses his feelings years later describing how few have ever
experienced the full grief of their subject as I did in The Sick Child. (qtd. in Prideaux 85 86). Munch s
painterly style allows us to feel the anguish and pain he must have felt while painting The Sick Child.
His process is also rather significant compared to the end product itself and provides clear insight into
his emotional state whilst he painted.
Munch not only painted with a brush but he chose to also use a palette knife for this particular painting
to show the marks of visible misery, which can be seen with the scratchy and unfinished texture. What
is even more interesting is his use of layers. His determination in layering his painting over and over

The Santa Monica Human Services Division
Though economic inequality and homelessness are major challenges for the city, it does not wholly
define Santa Monica s culture. Overall, Santa Monica s politics are largely progressive and they
translate to the types of people and businesses who call the city home. One resident says Santa Monica
is what happens when hippies get rich (M. Rich, personal communication, May 10, 2017). Hence,
there are many benefits to living and working in this community. Primarily, the various government

community homeless individuals, victims of domestic violence, at risk youth, indigent Veterans, and
people dealing with severe physical or mental illness or substance abuse . The organization (which
also partners with the Venice Family Clinic) has multiple locations and offers assessments for all.
OPCC (n.d.) touts the success of its programs, reporting that the organization has placed 966 people

Anderson of the Human Services Division believes that Santa Monica does more than its fair share in

unit which partners on this issue.
Although Santa Monica works diligently to confront the issue of homelessness, it still remains a
challenge. Interestingly, a study discussing adults over the age of 50 and their entrance into
homelessness finds, ...nearly half of

Decline of Blanche DuBois in Tennessee Williams A...
The Unnecessary Decline of Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire
Upon reviewing the drama, A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, it would appear that the
character of Blanche DuBois is worthy of closer inspection. With her previous occupation as a teacher
of American literature and her former social status being that of a well bred woman of the very
traditional Old South, Blanche could be any human being transferring from one culture to another
with customs far different from the ones being left behind. Even today it could happen that someone is
suddenly confronted with a totally new and different value system with which he must learn to cope in
order to be accepted into his new environment. That is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Blanche depends on manner, on affected little girl innocence, to sustain her (Hirsch 33). That is quite
evident at the very beginning of the play when she seems to be disgusted by the way her sister lives
with her husband. However, Blanche s evasive explanation of her early arrival, before the end of the
spring term at the school in Laurel, is a clear indication that something went wrong with Blanche. In
her first meeting with Stanley it becomes quite clear that Stanley and Blanche are antagonist and
protagonist. Twice in scene 1, a cat screeches near the window, startling Blanche and now summoning
up a cat and mouse image for the relationship between Stanley and Blanche (Londre 47).
In the second scene, the audience witnesses Blanche s obsessive bathing, just to quiet my nerves
(Williams 39) as she told her sister Stella, but it is a nominal gesture of guilt and wished for
redemption (Bloom 16). In a single moment of deviation from her mood of gaiety in this scene,
Blanche withholds a faded, ribbon tied sheaf of love letters: Poems a dead boy wrote. I hurt him that
way you would like to hurt me ... (Williams 41). That shows her feeling of guilt about the death of her
husband.
In the same scene Stanley reveals to Blanche that he is going to check her papers from Belle Reve,
inheritance having taken on added importance as Stella has taken on added girth with her pregnancy.
At that news, Blanche rushes to

The Most Memorable Place Of The World
The United States Navy often takes me to various and unique locations of the world. I ve sailed
throughout the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Persian Gulf, Indian Ocean, and Pacific Ocean. I
ve stepped foot in Rome, the Middle East, various tropical islands, and my favorite region Southeast
Asia. To be more specific, one of the most memorable places I ve visited was when my third ship hit
port in Thailand. During one such occasion, I was wandering the streets of Pattaya late at night with
my friends. We noticed there was a crowd congregating around a rickety boxing ring in the middle of
a bar. Around the ring, there were bets being placed. In the old wooden seats, there were men drinking

This was not a move of cowardice, as I could tell neither of the fighters was intimidated by the other.
They had trained for most of their young lives and they were not afraid of anything or anyone. To
them this was just another fight. After they were done figuring each other out, the fight quickly picked
up the pace. The fighters came forward and threw punches and kicks to each other s head and body.
Both kids were putting on a good show and I could tell they were fighting for real. Even though they
were giving it their all, I could sense they loved fighting and there was no place they would rather be.
In each of the corners of the ring, the boys team of trainers and family members was screaming
instructions and words of encouragement. The crowd had also begun to cheer and chant, excited by
the back and forth volley of fists and feet. Even the people across the street started to gain interest and
watched from the sidewalk. The Muay Thai match continued like this, each kid getting their hits in
and even getting knocked down onto the floor. Each round lasted approximately two minutes, with
five rounds total. During the breaks in between rounds, the fighters sipped their water and received
coaching from their team. In my eyes every round seemed to be the same, although that could be the
alcohol in my system at the time that made everything blurry. At the end of the final round, the referee
gathered all the scores and brought the two boys

The bottom line for our team however, is to understand that the widespread practice of wasta in the
Middle East is assumed, it is a given. So we must learn the nuances of the practice and use it to our
advantage to be successful in our mission. That means finding the right Wasta to curry influence with
the particular elders you are working with. Originally based upon family loyalty, the family is still the
primary wasta channel, but that familial relationship has expanded to include friends and
acquaintances, as well as private agreements whereby services are provided in exchange for gifts or
specific fees. In the words of one observer, Today s wasta is too often a middle man, seeking fame and
fortune by doing favors. Our job is to find that Middle Man and enter into that relationship with our
eyes wide open, knowing it isn t going to be a cheap date, but that it will be worth the lives it will save
down the road. Incidentally, the IMF, World Bank and regional economic leaders consider the taming
or conversion of wasta as necessary to the MENA Region ultimately becoming an emerging market
leader and engine of world growth, its effect in the regional economy is that debilitating. So let s do
our part to keep it that way! Where s my Wasta!?! Here wasta wasta!

technology advancement over the years. Today we learn through using various teaching methods, as
we have come to rely more on technology to enhance our learning experience rather than doing the
traditional method of just sitting in the classroom and having the teacher be the sage on the stage.
During this course I had been exposed to several teaching strategies, but the flip classroom approach

unwilling to participate since they are not given a choice of theme and students may score poorly since

Sound Of Music Analysis
The Sound of Music was released in 1965. Robert Wise directed it. It starred Julies Andrews,
Christopher Plummer, Eleanor Parker, Peggy Wood, and Richard Haydn. The movie is based on the
book The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, which was written by the real Maria von Trapp in 1949.
The location was of course Austria and the movie was set in the 1930s during the time when the Nazi
rule was taking over Austria. According to IMDB (international movies data base), the film s budget
was $8,200,00 but it exceeded that and is now the 3rd highest grossing film after Star Wars and Gone
with the Wind at $163,214,286. The film won 5 academy awards. It won Best picture, best director,
best music, best sound recording, and best film editing. The reason this film is important to film
history is because it portrays the link between the reel world in a musical and the real world. Some of
the questions that will be answered in this essay are; since the film was based on book, how similar or
different were the two? Does the film make the real story better or worse? How is the utopian factor
implemented in the film? Did the film use mostly professional actors or were they a good mix of
professional and amateur actors? What were the lead actors known for before they were cast in this
film?

in a WWIII scenario. Now, almost every country knows how to construct a nuclear fission bomb and
some countries are even working on creating a hydrogen bomb (nuclear fusion). The destruction that
can be caused by one atomic bomb is plenty to force a country into surrender, as multiple atomic
bombs could obliterate a whole continent. Such a scenario took place when the Soviet Union and the
United States were in the Cold War. Either side had atomic weapons stockpiled and a few buttons
could have ended the lives of millions of innocents. During the bombing of Hiroshima, death was
painless, but the long term damage dealt to survivors caused immense pain. Survivors dealt with thick,
figure altering keloid scars all over their face and chest, agony from untreated cancer, cataract, and
infected wounds from untreated cuts. After the world saw how two bombs affected the cities of
Hiroshima and Nagasaki, people understood that no one was safe (Shoten). After the bombings at
Hiroshima and Nagasaki, an extreme fear of future warfare was placed on the

Immediate Hypersensitivity Reaction
PHYSIOLOGY: In an immediate hypersensitivity reaction the primary immune cell involved is the
mast cell, which becomes activated through an IgE/FcɛRl receptor interaction. These cells play a key
role in the initial immune response known as the immediate hypersensitivity reaction which involves
release of granule contents as well as secreting cytokines that recruit other pro inflammatory cells
during the late phase reaction (1). Immunological pathway. An allergic response can only begin
following a previous exposure to an allergen; during this initial exposure, the allergen is taken up by
an antigen presenting cell and presented in the context of MHC Class II to a T cell which then
differentiates into a T helper 2 cell (Th2 cell). This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Boffi: Managing internationalisation in luxury goods
Executive summary:
Nowadays, being competitive isn t an option but more an obligation.
Through this report, we identified the well known Italian Boffi, specialised in kitchen and bathroom
industry. How Boffi did to be one of the most important Italian producers of kitchens and bathrooms
in the luxury field? What was its strategy? How can they improve their sales and market share? Those
are the question that we tried to answer, with some theoretical aspects as the five competitive forces
and the value chain or Porter or even the SWOT analysis, without forgetting the PESTEL study and
some concrete examples. By analysing the

Boffi has four main strategies in its activity.
Product design: Products are made from famous designers who are known in the art domain, it allows
making each product unique. Those products are in the influence of an art director who is a designer
as well, tree of them are famous.
Alliance: Boffi has alliance with high end brand. This partnership enhances its activity, and makes the
brand some visibility in the international markets. In 2001 Boffi becomes a member of Foundazione
Altagamma, an association of luxury Italian design companies who enjoy an
International reputation. The main aim of the association is to promote Italian brands, style, culture
worldwide.
2003 Boffi made the acquisition of Nobert Wangen, a top quality kitchen brand (design kitchen and
bathroom). Naoto Fukasawa collaborates as well with Boffi.
Diversification: in the 1980 Boffi decided to produce and make bathroom because of the needs of
customers. Bathrooms are considered has a private space having and taking more and more space in
our modern society. Bathroom sector has low entry barriers because of less money spending, and it s
almost the same area (living place) as the core activity of the company which is kitchen. Kitchen sales

Using a Dynamic Programming method would be a tedious search of all the the possible

would consume a greater amount of time. This problem of reducing combinations can be eliminated
by using Lagrangian relaxation method.
The Lagrangian Relaxation algorithm being implemented in basically an extension of Non Convex
Optimization to a power system. In this project, we have taken up the cost functions of each of the
generators under consideration and developed the cost function to be minimized keeping the mind the
generator limits as well as the load balance.
Loading constraints: Pt_load=∑_(i=1)^Ng▒〖Pit*Uit=0 〗 Generating limits:

What Is Your Goal In Life Essay
As a young woman in today s society, I am constantly told to live in the now. This phrase is frequently
said by my peers to me to reassure me that despite feeling like I do not have my life completely
together at the moment, that it is important to take a step back and enjoy the events going on in my life
currently, as well as to take decisions that I make one step at a time. It is fairly easy to conform to this
mindset, largely because I am so young and want to appreciate every moment that life has to offer.
However, as I move forward into my adult life, I am beginning to realize the importance of setting
goals in my life. This is not only because I want my life to have a purpose so that I am not just
fumbling throughout my college career with no end goal in mind, but also because it is an amazing
feelings to work so hard towards a goal and have all my hard work pay off in the end in order to
achieve said goals. Obtaining a goal oriented mindset is undeniably paramount to my success not only
in my college career but as well as my personal life. Given this, I have compiled a list of goals for

overwhelmed by classwork and negativity, it will remain of the utmost importance to me to make sure
that at the end of the day, I tried my best despite any shortcomings. In the future, there is always going
to be a voice in the back of my head reminding me of my goals, and how without them, I am not using
my full potential as a student or person in society. I know that my goals will be met successfully, and

Everyday Use Symbolism Analysis
Most works of literature are full of symbolism. The symbolism they contain can vary from a character
s personality and actions representing an idea to an object representing an idea. The short story
Everyday Use by Alice Walker makes great use of this symbolism. The primary struggle in this short
story takes place when the oldest daughter Dee returns home to her family s estate. A contrast between
two vastly different approaches on tradition and honoring one s heritage is shown immediately. This
contrast is most evident over the items that are symbolic to a different time period. The primary focal
point of the short story Everyday Use is the clash of ideas on how to preserve one s culture. Mrs.
Johnson has two daughters, Dee and Maggie. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Quilts designed for everyday use, pieced wholes defying symmetry and pattern, are signs of the
scarred generations of women who have always been alien to a world of literate words and stylish
fantasies (Backer Jr. Pierce Baker 49). This quote perfectly describes why quilts are often used as
symbolism. Since they are pieced together and mended over many generations, quilts are able to stand
as a symbol for each generation that has worked on the quilt. Dee desires the quilts because it shows
the craftsmanship of her ancestors, however, Dee wants only to display the quilts and not to use it.
This is in severe opposition to Maggie who has already been promised the quilts. Dee replies Maggie
can t appreciate these quilts! she said. She d probably be backward enough to put them to everyday
use (Walker 490). Mama sees no problem in this and even explains that she is tired of keeping them
since no one has been using them. Eventually, Maggie caves and says that she can remember her
grandma without the quilts. This fills Mama with joy and she decides to give Maggie the quilts she
promised and she told Dee to grab a different quilt. Dee was angry and stormed off to the car. As she
was leaving she told the family that they don t understand their

The Film The Princess Bride
The film The Princess Bride can be associated with many different genres. The story expresses many
different genre elements, such as romance, action, and a comedy. Even though the movie shows all of
these characteristics, I believe the movie should be mainly characterized as a fairytale. The film shares
many characteristics with fairytale and fantasy movies, which I will list and discuss. I will be taking a
closer look at the movie, and show how it compares to other fantasy and fairytale movies.
One of the most obvious example of the movie being the fairy tale, is the involvement of royalty in the
story. One of the main characters in the story, is Buttercup, who is a princess. Buttercup is a princess
all the way through the film, and almost becomes a queen. Another main character is Prince
Humperdinck, who is the prince of florin, the son of the king. Prince Humperdinck and Buttercup are
stereotypical fairy tale characters. Humperdinck is the main antagonist of the story, ... Show more

The main way magic is invoked is with Miracle Max, who used to work for the King. When presented
with the almost dead Westley, he brings him back from the point of death using magic. This is one of
the only times magic is used in the story. There are some other magic elements such as giants, and
witches.
The film s ending contains one that is familiar to many fairy tales. In the final battle, everyone collides
and battles it out. Indigo fights the man who killed his father in a long duel, and eventually comes out
victorious. Buttercup and Westley meet Prince Humperdinck in the castle, and Westley defeats him.
After Westley s victory, him and Buttercup decide to let Humperdinck go. After the battle in the castle,
the main conflicts in the story are solved. After the battle ends, they all meet up and ride into the
sunset. This ending is alike to fairy tales in numerous ways.

Jewish Massacre In Russian Pogroms
In 1881 a Jewish massacre occurred in Russia known as the pogroms, which is an organized massacre
of a culture group. The start of the pogroms was after Tsar Alexander II, the ruler of Russia, was killed
in 1881 and it was suspected that the murderer was a Jewish man. (Antin 72) For Russia to get back,
they placed all the blame on the Jewish people and the only way to get revenge was to kill each and
every person who identified with the Jewish religion. In this paper my goal is to explain what the
pogroms are, the major events that occurred in this time period, and what was learned from this time
in history. As Karl Max said, History repeats itself, first as a tragedy, second as a farce. The Jewish

(Doyle Pogroms of 1881) The plan to solve this issue was to use propaganda showing how bad the
Jews were and why they needed to be eliminated. The government s use of propaganda backfired as
violence arose. One example of this, is in Yelizavetgrad City. The rioting became so out of control that
the army had to get involved to break up the fighting. (Doyle Pogroms of 1881) While, the Russians
believed that using military force would stop the people and calm them down just the opposite had
occurred. People began becoming more violent and more people joined in the rioting. This was seen
ten days later in the city of Kiev, an attack that lasted for over three years. (Modern Jewish History) In
this three year time span over 250 attacks occurred around Russia and the citizens of Russia followed
the government s lead as they were adjusting to their new government. (Parkansky 32) To revenge his
brother s death Tsar Alexander III decided to pass harsher laws on the Jews. This is when he passed
the May Laws in 1882. The May Laws took almost all rights away from the Jewish people. Some of
the laws were that only ten percent of Jewish students could attend college, Jews could not trade on
Sundays, and they also had to move away from their local villages and towns. (Joyce 19th Century
Russian Pogroms) The overall plan Alexander III had failed as over two million Jews left Russia to go
to America and the two thirds of the population that stayed in Russia were very influential to taking

Symposium Rhetorical Analysis
The Symposium in simple words is a drinking party consisting of dinner then discussion. For tonight s
party, they will decide the topic will be on the god of love. The whole group mainly focuses on the
love relationship between two men. Each speaking about what they think about love. Focusing more
on Pausanias speech he talks differently about his view of the lover/boyfriend relationship. To help his
argument Alcibiades in some ways prove his points. Pausanias contradicts Phaedrus s view of the
lover/boyfriend relationship by looking at the meaning of love, a connection between old and young,
and the outcome.
When Pausanias begins to describe the meaning of love he breaks into two different types of love.

But he also comments say that is supportive but make sure they never get too caught up in their lover s
charms. That being said, most of the speakers at this dinner would be looking at the bright side of the
lover, relationship, but with Pausanias, he spoke the truth of what a roller coaster ride the relationship
can truly be. To help prove his point after most of the speakers has gone, they receive a much
unexpected drunk guest. The guest was Alcibiades, who had somewhat a relationship with Socrates.
To explain it short Alcibiades came off as being a mad ex. When Alcibiades starts to speak to Socrates,
he explains that there was no peace between them. Then he continued by saying You can t imagine
what a nuisance my love for this man has become. Ever since the start of our affair. I ve never been
able to look at or talk to anyone attractive without him getting so jealous and resentful that he goes
crazy and calls me names. (Plato, p. 58) At first, this makes it sound as his the roles of the younger and
older relationship have switched. Thus making Socrates be the immature and overacting boy that is
too young for a relationship. But as Alcibiades continues to speak you see that it isn t Socrates, that is
immature but Alcibiades himself. He has a relationship with Socrates that he can t live with him or
without him.

6:30 in the morning all the transports were in place and by 6:40 the war had broken out. Slowly but

to take over Mt. Suribachi which was such a relief for the soldiers because the five prior days was just

Why College Football Should Not Be Banned
It is April 28 and everyone is excited to watch the annual National Football League draft. Families

Steve Reiss s Theory and idea of status states that status is attained through the desire for prestige. It
also means that a person is very conscious about reputation and how they are viewed by those around
them. I am an Indian who believes in the Indian caste system. The caste system is a class structure that
everyone is born into. In the Indian culture, life is dominated by the caste system. I was born to a
mother and a father who were both born into the upper levels of the caste system. This means that my
parents enjoyed a life of high materialistic value. Those in the upper class also valued the importance
of education because those who had prestigious college degrees were the ones who were highly

live with today. I want to continue to earn the respect of my family and those in the Indian community

Taking a Look at HIV
Physiological Basis
To be a retrovirus is not the same as a virus. HIV is a retrovirus and it is classified as this because HIV
s genetic information is being enclosed by RNA instead of DNA. HIV targets a specific cell within the
immune system and those are the T cells or also known as CD4+ cells. HIV causes immune
dysfunction by destroying these cells. HIV contains a glycoprotein, called gp120 that is vital for the
virus to enter the T cell. It attaches to the surface, called the CD4+. As it attaches, the retrovirus
membrane fuses to the lymphocyte cell membrane, therefore gaining entry into the cell.
Once an entry is initiated and completed, HIV has the ability to replicate into thousands of copies of
itself by using the host cells resources and the RNA. The RNA, which is two stranded, converts into
DNA through an enzyme titled reverse transcriptase. When the DNA is set within the host s genome, it
allows replication to occur. Furthermore, the new viral copies are made and the host cell ruptures and
dies. As a result, the multiple viruses are released and continue to infect more of the T cells,
weakening the immune system. The normal count of T cells is about 800 1200 cells/mm3. For a while,
T cells can be initially replaced, but HIV infection is a slowly progressive disease and soon enough the
body becomes exhausted, leading to a decline in T cell count. There are several prevention measures
that can be taken in order to avoid getting HIV. Those include

Diversity in products and their prices helps Apple remain an inelastic company, regarding their
demand. If a price rises for one of their products, there is sure to be another product that moves into

people to buy the more expensive items not only because of Apple s positive brand recognition and

finds a defect or fault, they fix the problem for free or replace the product altogether. With Apple
being so far ahead of their competition, the only problem one can foresee in Apple s future is how
long they can sustain such innovation before they plateau. Apple does a phenomenal job at releasing
their innovative products before their competition, but if their innovation cannot hold steady, this may
lead to changes in demand for their products considerably. This can be seen with their release of the
iPhone, the first successful touch screen cellular phone. Although people swarmed to the iPhone when
it was first released because of its advanced technology, as the years have passed, other similar

A Portrait of a Young Man Essay
A Portrait of a Young Man.
Portrait of a Young Man was painted by Angolo Bronzino between the years of 1503 1572. The
portrait is 37 5/8 by 29 ½ inches and is an oil on wood( Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1999). I picked
this painting because of the self assurance, at first glance, of the young man that is depicted. This
appealed to me because it reflected my own attitude.
After studying the portrait for a considerable amount of time I began to see possible sadness or self
doubt in the young mans face that betrays his powerful stance. I felt a connection to the young man,
knowing all too well what it was like to present a powerful outside image while knowing there was a

  • 2. Moral Responsibility In Susan Wolf s Analysis In an attempt to explain moral responsibility, Susan Wolf puts forth a modified version of what she calls the Deep Self View (DSV) first expounded on by Harry Frankfurt, Gary Watson and Charles Taylor (Perry et al. 460 462). The key to her argument the condition of sanity; a deep self must be sane in order to be considered morally responsible. However, I will argue that her attempt fails for the following two reasons: 1. Wolf s definition of sanity is too vague and to be useful and relies on the collective view of lay persons. 2. Wolf raises the bar of moral responsibility so high as to make it nearly impossible to reach and in the process seems to defeat her own argument. Wolf s attempt to make sense of DSV by creating her own definition of sanity (CITATION) does not add clarity to DSV but instead creates more confusion. Her definition seems to rely too heavily on the views of the general population for determining what is and is not sane (CITATION). What is sane then ... In other words, society at large is the yardstick for judging what is and is not to be considered sane and acceptable behavior. While few would object to the role sanity plays in a person s moral responsibility, Wolf s definition of the sane DSV is far too vague and subjective to be of any real value. So, if we accept Wolf s vague definition of the sane DSV and assume our view of the world is the correct one, we may create even bigger problems. All too often the tyranny of the righteous majority has violated the rights of the weak and savage minority. Therefore, it is my argument that Wolf s definition of the sane DSV has the very real potential of creating even more Jo Jo s on an even larger scale. Wolf acknowledges the difficulty of this objection and admits there are no satisfactory answers (Perry et al. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This principle related to the tendency of physical or chemical systems to allow researchers to calculate changes in free energy, like as in a chemical reaction and the speed of which it will happen. There was a lot on josiah willard gibbs, but on every website i looked at it was 50% or more on his background, the accomplishments weren t the main focus, although one website did have it categorized, but a lot was still family, background and what his job was. • 5. Children Early Intervention Programs Essay Nobody makes a conscious decision to be a bad parent. People often just lack the resources or skills needed, they encounter other barriers, or make bad decisions along the way that result in the inability to effectively parent a child, more often than not perpetuating their disadvantage for yet another generation. Disadvantage allows poor social determinants to take hold. To break the cycle that is a root cause of today s healthcare costs, we must find ways to finance programs that will inoculate disadvantaged children against poor social determinants. While we can t mandate a certain degree of financial stability, competency, and commitment to fully engage in the art/science of child rearing before issuing a license to conceive, we ... It is imperative that the appropriate interventions occur in a disadvantaged child s early years, when both cognitive and emotional development are most easily influenced. For example, Strain Timm (2001) note that in addressing behavior problems, the most effective interventions were those that occurred prior to school age (the earlier the intervention, the better the outcomes) when parents received the appropriate guidance needed to: be more vigilant in monitoring their child s activities, (b) assist other key persons in the child s life to interact in a fashion consistent with the parents new interaction style, (c) help their child to set self management goals, and (d) recruit family and community support for their child and themselves. • 6. Bonnie and Clyde Film Genre categorization is important because it helps to organize and classify movies. People make a lot of decisions based on the genre of the film; this is one of the main ways in which audiences select what movie to see. Most genres follow the same theme, story formula, setting, and story formula. If every genre followed the same set of rules one would think that after awhile these movies would become predictable and therefore lose its spark. There is also the notion that people and society change and evolve, making certain genres irrelevant and not relatable to the overall movie lover population. So how do film makers who are known and generally stick to a certain genre, keep audiences from losing interest? They simply evolve with society by changing the rules of a certain genre and one way to do this is genre breaking. Genre breaking can be defined as a film that is classified as a certain genre but breaks the genre tradition, by keeping the traditional theme of the genre but changing the setting, presentation, and story formula. By doing this, the film still follows the essential idea of the genre s traditional theme, but the way it goes about doing it is totally different and can usually be seen as a parody. The best example of genre breaking would be the film Bonnie and Clyde made in the 1967 by Arthur Penn. Bonnie and Clyde is seen as a gangster film, and follows the overall theme of a gangster film. The theme of a gangster film is the American Dream, which tries to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay on Analysis of Birches by Robert Frost In the poem Birches by Robert Frost, Frost portrays the images of a child growing to adulthood through the symbolism of aging birch trees. Through these images readers are able to see the reality of the real world compared to there carefree childhood. The image of life through tribulation is the main focal point of the poem and the second point of the poem is if one could revert back to the simpler times of childhood. The language of the poem is entirely arranged through images, although it contains some diction it lacks sound devices, metaphors, and similes compared to other published works by Frost. They are dragged to the withered bracken by the load, And they seem not to break; though once they are bowed is an image of someone who has aged but not passed on yet. So low for long, they never right themselves represents how they will never be able to relive their childhood. While the first half of the poem deals with the coming of age the second half of the poem deals with childhood and wanting to stay young for as long as possible. The first image of childhood by Frost is when Truth broke in With all her matter of fact about the ice storm, I should prefer to have some boy bend them. A boy bending the trees in stead of ice storm allows the tree to never age because they will always return to their original shape and never break by the burden of a load. This is further expressed By riding them down over and over again Until he took the stiffness out of them. Once the trees lose their stiffness the boy can play on them repeatedly without having to worry about them breaking therefore if they never shatter or falling then youthfulness will always be his. Finally Frost talks about how he would like to go back to being a boy swinging and climbing on trees just as he did when he was younger by saying So was I once myself a swinger of birches. And so I dream of going back to be. I d like to get away from earth awhile And then come back to it and begin over . And life is too much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For the first time, more people lived in the city than on farms. The economy was booming. So what makes the twenties so roaring? The Roaring Twenties were the start of many important industries we have today, including automotive, radio, and fashion. The automotive industry really took off during this time period. Henry Ford and Ford Motor Company manufactured cars that became extremely popular. In 1913, Henry Ford created the first moving assembly line for an entire automobile. However, Carrière s Sick Child, 1885 would be a pivoting point in influencing his own painting of the same name. One of Munch s first work that showed his notorious style can be seen in The Sick Child, 1886 painting just a year after Carrière s. His painting depicts his sister Sophie bedridden from Tuberculosis and his mother mourning beside her waiting for her to pass. He paints in a very melancholy tone and the color gives the viewer the impression of sickness and sorrow. He expresses his feelings years later describing how few have ever experienced the full grief of their subject as I did in The Sick Child. (qtd. in Prideaux 85 86). Munch s painterly style allows us to feel the anguish and pain he must have felt while painting The Sick Child. His process is also rather significant compared to the end product itself and provides clear insight into his emotional state whilst he painted. Munch not only painted with a brush but he chose to also use a palette knife for this particular painting to show the marks of visible misery, which can be seen with the scratchy and unfinished texture. What is even more interesting is his use of layers. His determination in layering his painting over and over for a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Unnecessary Decline of Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire Upon reviewing the drama, A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, it would appear that the character of Blanche DuBois is worthy of closer inspection. With her previous occupation as a teacher of American literature and her former social status being that of a well bred woman of the very traditional Old South, Blanche could be any human being transferring from one culture to another with customs far different from the ones being left behind. That is quite evident at the very beginning of the play when she seems to be disgusted by the way her sister lives with her husband. However, Blanche s evasive explanation of her early arrival, before the end of the spring term at the school in Laurel, is a clear indication that something went wrong with Blanche. In her first meeting with Stanley it becomes quite clear that Stanley and Blanche are antagonist and protagonist. Twice in scene 1, a cat screeches near the window, startling Blanche and now summoning up a cat and mouse image for the relationship between Stanley and Blanche (Londre 47). In the second scene, the audience witnesses Blanche s obsessive bathing, just to quiet my nerves (Williams 39) as she told her sister Stella, but it is a nominal gesture of guilt and wished for redemption (Bloom 16). In a single moment of deviation from her mood of gaiety in this scene, Blanche withholds a faded, ribbon tied sheaf of love letters: Poems a dead boy wrote. I hurt him that way you would like to hurt me ... (Williams 41). That shows her feeling of guilt about the death of her husband. When they first arrived, they knew that the Japanese tended to wait for the first wave to pass through before starting the full blown attack. Clarence Rae described the island, They bombed Iwo for thirty days before we ever got there. Bombed. Shelled. Everything you could think of to soften it up. . . At 6:30 in the morning all the transports were in place and by 6:40 the war had broken out. Slowly but surely the American soldiers made progress and secured some of the airfields because by the beginning of March, two thirds of the island was captured by American soldiers because they had a strong Marine base and were able to push the Japanese back. After five days the Americans were able to take over Mt. Suribachi which was such a relief for the soldiers because the five prior days was just the beginning of the thirty six day war. Iwo Jima veteran, Hershel Woodrow Williams remembers, The flag going up on Mount Suribachi, on Japanese territory, was something that we as marines really needed. It was a short lived victory because after the taking over of Mt. Suribachi the bloody battle resumed with thousands killed and bodies mutilated for thirty one days later. Another veteran, Norman Baker, remembered vividly, After a while, I wasn t in shocked anymore and that s the worst thing for me. You became like animals or a machine. Families have friends and families over and there is an abundance of food. College football players are eager to get drafted and watchers have their own bets of who is going to get drafted. Numerous incidents occur in our lives where we are motivated and numerous incidents occur where we lack any motivation. As I am a full time student and not currently working, I chose to write this paper on my motivation to finish my education and attain a higher level degree in health care. According to Abraham H. Maslow s Theory, there are five levels of hierarchy of needs. During the first level, we are dealing with our physiological needs which are the basic needs of survival. I am fortunate enough to be living a life where I have access to water, food, and shelter. During the second level, we are dealing with our safety needs. I attain my safety from ... It also means that a person is very conscious about reputation and how they are viewed by those around them. I am an Indian who believes in the Indian caste system. The caste system is a class structure that everyone is born into. In the Indian culture, life is dominated by the caste system. I was born to a mother and a father who were both born into the upper levels of the caste system. This means that my parents enjoyed a life of high materialistic value. Those in the upper class also valued the importance of education because those who had prestigious college degrees were the ones who were highly respected. This component of my culture has been passed down to me and these are the values that I live with today. I want to continue to earn the respect of my family and those in the Indian community by going on to earn my PhD. There are positive and negative components of the Indian caste system, but it is a custom and a practice that has been followed for centuries. There are many periods in our lives where we lack motivation. Using Steven Reiss s Theory, and his idea of order, I am able to recall the multiple times I have lost a sense of motivation. • 33. Taking a Look at HIV Physiological Basis To be a retrovirus is not the same as a virus. HIV is a retrovirus and it is classified as this because HIV s genetic information is being enclosed by RNA instead of DNA. HIV targets a specific cell within the immune system and those are the T cells or also known as CD4+ cells. HIV causes immune dysfunction by destroying these cells. HIV contains a glycoprotein, called gp120 that is vital for the virus to enter the T cell. It attaches to the surface, called the CD4+. As it attaches, the retrovirus membrane fuses to the lymphocyte cell membrane, therefore gaining entry into the cell. Once an entry is initiated and completed, HIV has the ability to replicate into thousands of copies of itself by using the host cells resources and the RNA. The RNA, which is two stranded, converts into DNA through an enzyme titled reverse transcriptase. When the DNA is set within the host s genome, it allows replication to occur. Furthermore, the new viral copies are made and the host cell ruptures and dies. As a result, the multiple viruses are released and continue to infect more of the T cells, weakening the immune system. The normal count of T cells is about 800 1200 cells/mm3. For a while, T cells can be initially replaced, but HIV infection is a slowly progressive disease and soon enough the body becomes exhausted, leading to a decline in T cell count. There are several prevention measures that can be taken in order to avoid getting HIV. Those include ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When they first started, their focus was more on personal computers for customers, but as the company has aged, so has their focus expanded towards this idea of consumer electronics as a whole. If a price rises for one of their products, there is sure to be another product that moves into that previous product s price range that is still comparable in design and quality. There will always be people to buy the more expensive items not only because of Apple s positive brand recognition and loyalty, but because Apple consistently produces quality and innovative products; including, if Apple finds a defect or fault, they fix the problem for free or replace the product altogether. With Apple being so far ahead of their competition, the only problem one can foresee in Apple s future is how long they can sustain such innovation before they plateau. Apple does a phenomenal job at releasing their innovative products before their competition, but if their innovation cannot hold steady, this may lead to changes in demand for their products considerably. This can be seen with their release of the iPhone, the first successful touch screen cellular phone. Although people swarmed to the iPhone when it was first released because of its advanced technology, as the years have passed, other similar designs, including those with android and windows based operating systems, have drawn a considerable portion of the market. • 37. A Portrait of a Young Man Essay A Portrait of a Young Man. Portrait of a Young Man was painted by Angolo Bronzino between the years of 1503 1572. The portrait is 37 5/8 by 29 ½ inches and is an oil on wood( Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1999). I picked this painting because of the self assurance, at first glance, of the young man that is depicted. This appealed to me because it reflected my own attitude. After studying the portrait for a considerable amount of time I began to see possible sadness or self doubt in the young mans face that betrays his powerful stance. I felt a connection to the young man, knowing all too well what it was like to present a powerful outside image while knowing there was a self conscious and scared person inside. ... In the background there is a green colored room, that includes a door frame, a Doric column and a capital. Portrait of a Young Man was painted during the Mannerism period. It was done by Bronzino in Italy c.1540. The portrait is 37 5/8 by 29 ½ inches, it s vertical because it s a portrait. The frame cuts the shapes in the painting, this was done purposely in the typical Mannerism style which usually crowded the pictorial area . The painting is supported by wood, opaque oil paints were applied thickly with a fine brush, I was unable to see any distinct brush strokes. The forms are flat except for the beads on the young man s hat which seem to raise off the painting. The portrait contains a simple organization. There are few individual units like the chair and table but the picture is crowded. The shapes are regular and complete with clear defining lines.
