Crafting an essay on the subject of "Critical Essay Macbeth" presents a multifaceted challenge.
Firstly, delving into the intricacies of Shakespearean literature demands a comprehensive
understanding of the play's themes, characters, and literary devices. Analyzing Macbeth critically
involves navigating its complex narrative, character motivations, and the profound psychological
depth Shakespeare imbues in his work.
Furthermore, constructing a critical essay entails more than just summarizing the plot or
recounting character actions. It requires a deep dive into the underlying themes and symbols,
teasing out their significance and interpreting their implications within the context of the play
and beyond. This demands critical thinking skills and the ability to articulate nuanced arguments
supported by textual evidence.
Moreover, engaging with existing scholarly discourse adds another layer of complexity. To

All Quiet On The Western Front And Sun Also Rises...
Comparison between All Quiet on the Western Front and The Sun Also Rises
The two books, All Quiet on the Western Front and The Sun Also rises have a
number of differences and similarities. I will address the topics, characters, time
periods and writing styles along with my opinion on the two books. The topic of All
Quiet on the Western Frontdescribes how a German soldier and his friends, in the
middle of World War 1, deal with the stresses of the war and how the soldiers cope
with the conditions they are in and the deaths of comrades; these soldiers are also
friends. The book also conveys the stresses of coping with civilian life when
disconnected from the war. The topic of The Sun Also Rises deals with the stresses
that a woman goes through after losing her true love in the war. The themes are
different as the stories do not mirror each other as far as the plot goes. However,
they are similar in the fact that both stories touch on people managing life. I prefer
All Quiet on the Western Front because the author wrote the story from the
perspective of the soldier, Paul Baumer and the writing make you feel like ... Show

All Quiet on the Western Front, most of the main characters are friends who were
acquainted with each other before entering the war. The main character describes not
only his surroundings but also his feelings throughout the book. In The Sun Also
Rises, the characters are similar in the fact that they are also a group of friends.
Although there was a similarity, the characters feelings were not emphasized as
much. The author in All Quiet on the Western Front described the characters in
pronounced detail, in reading the book, I felt like I knew each character. In The Sun
Also Rises, it was difficult to relate to the characters as they all had different
backgrounds and their feelings going through the story were not as in depth. In
addition, the time periods had similarities and
Assessing Conceptual Understanding of Rational Numbers

Assessing Conceptual Understanding of Rational Numbers and Constructing a Model
of the Interrelated Skills and Concepts
Students continue to struggle to understand rational numbers. We need a system for
identifying students strengths and weaknesses dealing with rational numbers in order
to jump the hurdles that impede instruction. We need a model for describing learning
behavior related to rational numbers prerequisite skills and development of rational
number sense that is dynamic and allows for continuous growth and change. It would
inform us of the important background knowledge that students bring with them and
the prior experiences that influence their level of understanding. It would further
enable us to assess students ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What is being suggested is to bring it all together in a practical way. Briefly
highlighting various assessments and reports that have identified and highlighted the
importance of conceptual understanding enables one to trace back to the hatching of
the idea. In addition, outlining the course that got us to where we are today, trying to
determine what it means to understand something and how understanding can be
assessed assists us in continuing that course of action in the right direction.
In 1980, recommendations were made by the National Council of Teachers of
Mathematics for reforming mathematics instruction in An Agenda for Action. These
recommendations were based on results of the second National Assessment of
Educational Progress (NAEP) and on data collected by the National Science
Foundation (NSF) largely from a study called Priorities in School Mathematics
(PRISM). Specifically in the area of fractions, NAEP contended that students inability
to compute with fractions was the result of dependence on rote memorization of
algorithms and a focus strictly on routine problems. Among eight recommendations,
An Agenda for Action called for problem solving to be the focus of school
mathematics in the 80 s and basic skills in mathematics to be more than
computational fluency. The fourth NAEP showed improvement, but indicated that
mathematics instruction still lacked depth,
Training Day Alonzo Analysis
Training Day The character Alonzo does dominate women but this domination is
selective. For example, fourteen and fifty second in the Alonzo verbally threaten
the female college student during the drug stop. Alonzo stated move again and I ll
slap the taste out your Mouth . But eleven minutes and thirty second Alonzo self
disclosed he has four children and refer to one of his children mother as Queens.
The term Queen is use to described a woman of foremost or preeminent respect
(Dictionary). To be respected is to be equal. I can only conclude Alonzo desire to
dominate women is selective. Another example is fifty two minutes Alonzo tells
Sara to cook Jake some food. Sara hesitation slightly but said okay . Alonzo did not

This willingness to exchange gunfire can be seen as brave, but the reason he s

community is negative. The people in the community know Alonzo has power and
will not hesitate to use that power against anyone. The prime example of this is fifty
one minutes and twenty four second in the film when Bone commented bout Alonzo
present in the community Man I m sick of this shit I can t stand that motherfucker .
The final clause in traditional masculinity is Physical and mental toughness. Alonzo
is physically and mentally strong. For example, throughout the film Alonzo is able
to temporary manipulate Jake and force him to do everything he once him to do. For
example, sixteen minutes and forty six where Alonzo convince Jake to use drug
despite Jake desire not to. Next Alonzo physical strength can be seen one hour, forty

Can Contemporary Organisations Learn Anything Useful
from...
W ith regarding to the rapid pace of technological innovation, the contemporary
organizations prefer to use the more mature theory then the new issued study. I don t
think Stace and Dunphy s situational approach can satisfy all the condition on the
whole organization change; however, it should be something useful for the
contemporary organizations.
There are four types of change are defined by Dunphy and Stace (1993): type1:
F ine tuning; type2: Incremental Adjustment; type3: Modular transformation; type4:
Corporate transformation.
F ine tuning changes are characterized by small changes to an organization s strategy,

are typically manifested at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Modular transformation is change identified by major shifts of one or several
departments or divisions. In contrast to incremental adjustment this change can be
radical (RUNE TODNEM, 2005, pp 377). Although the new technology companies
are developed and applied rapidly, realign departments or divisions is often used in
the current traditional companies. It proved this type of change is also useful for the
contemporary organizational.
Corporate transformation is corporation wide, characterized by radical shifts in
business strategy, and revolutionary changes throughout the whole organization
(Alannah E. Rafferty, Roland H. Simons, 2006, pp 329). TQM change thus requires
corporate transformation since it impacts on mission and core values, affects the
power distribution in the organization, impacts on structures, systems and procedures,
affects interaction patterns and communication networks, and requires
transformational leadership to implement (Morris Abraham, John Crawford, Tom
F isher, 1999, pp 113).
Dunphy and Stace s (1993) research with 13 service sector organizations in Australia,
which had gone through large scale change indicates that for transformational change,
a directive/coercive style of leadership is likely to be most successful.
Whereas, for incremental adjustment or fine tuning, a consultative/collaborative

How Jane Eyre Mature
In life there is often much change, it is inevitable. Sometimes it is the people who
change or just their circumstances. With the characters introduced in charlottГ«

character development rather than circumstances that caused Jane to make her life
changing decision. This decision came to pass only after Jane had matured in three
distinct ways: financial maturity, experience knowledge, and the farthing of her

As a young women of the Victorian area, it was her job to marry well and social

Best practices in Managing Virtual Software Development Teams.
Introduction to Virtual Software Teams.
In this hard and fast run of Technology, handling software s efficiently in a defined
area with limited resources is a toughest challenge for any industry. Hence, virtual
team emerged out as a solution. The term virtual was driven out by the virtue in the
14th century but by 1950 s its meaning extended to temporarily available or created
or created by computer software . This gave the actual definition of virtual teams as
any project team in which the team members are geographically dispersed and use
technology to communicate or complete their goals . The trivial way of handling
teams contained many constraints and difficulties such as:
a.Geographic dispersion (occurring due to different geographical locations)
b.Temporal dispersion(Time difference in different time zones)
c.Cultural dispersion(Different languages )
d.Organizational dispersion(Different work ethics) Best practices in Managing
Virtual Software Development Teams:
Software development teams are always encouraged for healthy communication such
as stand up meetings, conferences and demo (if done according to agile) .but the
toughest part is of the scrum master or the group leader to confront all the challenges
related to these and manage them effectively.
These are the best practices which are popular today for Managing Virtual software

Assistive Technology Case Study
1. Was I aware of the laws pertaining to students rights regarding accessing assistive
technology?
Assistive technology was defined in the Technology Related Assistance for
Individuals with Disabilities Act (Tech Act of 1988). Assistive technology was
defined as being any piece of equipment that is used to improve the life of an
individual with a disability. The Telecommunications Act of 1996 provided guidelines
for accessibility, usability and compatibility of telecommunications equipment. The
most recent law is the Assistive TechnologyAct of 2004. This act focused on
providing funding to individuals with disabilities (Carpenter, 2015).
2. Am I comfortable determining students needs and matching the needs to the most
appropriate form of assistive technology?
Currently I am not comfortable determining student s needs and matching the needs
to the most appropriate form of assistive technology by myself. To determine the
best device for a student the whole IEP team should discuss and try different
devices. There are different needs that need to be taken into consideration. Each
member of the IEP team has different knowledge of the student and should be able to
help assist in deciding on what is best for the student.

A Mature Minor Case Study
The stigma attached to minors today is that they lack the experience required to
develop the level of maturity and intellect needed to govern their personal health.
Although this could apply to a mass of the younger generation, this is not true for the
entirety. A Mature Minor, defined as a competent young adult, has the right to choose
what happens to them medically. Having the independence to exercise these rights
would introduce additional medical options that they might avoid due to concerns of
remaining discreet. Additionally, a teenager struggling with an issue such as
Attention Deficit Disorder could potentially no longer wish to take medicine for their
condition. Being able to elect getting off medications could lead to a healthier... Show

The document states that the refusal of treatments will be respected, with the
exception of life threatening conditions. In a case such as Attention Deficit Disorder
or ADD, parent does not necessarily know best when it comes to medicating their
children. The psychiatric medications used to treat ADD come with extreme risk and
harmful side effects. They often contain methylphenidate, a robust stimulant that
parallels the effects of amphetamines and cocaine. These stimulates interact with the
nervous system and interfere with the delicate inner workings of the brain. The list
off negatives effects is extensive and forever expanding. This list does not only
consist of a variety of cognitive deficits, but it also includes high blood pressure,
irritable and aggressive behavior, extreme depression that can lead to suicide,
unexpected stroke, or heart attack; even in young people. Parents should not
administer narcotics to treat behavioral issues. Instead, they should implement
alternate solutions that are healthier such as one on one tutoring, learning in a
controlled environment without distraction, or changing the eating habits of the
person involved. In turn, both the parents and the child with ADD gain an
understanding of how the individual operates. As a result, the health of the child, to
include physical, mental, and emotional categories, flourish as he or she cultivates
improved daily habits and skills, enhancing their overall quality of life and their
future competency. In accordance with the mature minor doctrine, all young adults
must have the right to choose what goes into their bodies, especially when it effects
their brain
Staph Infection
Staph or staph infection is caused by the bacteria staphylococcus aureus. It is very
common and there are around three million cases of this in the United States each
year. This is a gram positive bacteria which means that it has a thick cell wall and the
stain used to see it is purple. It can be found on the surface of the skin or in the
mucous membranes of humans and some animals. They reproduce asexually. This
bacterium is transferable through skin to wound contact. In many people, Staph is
actually found in the nose, mouth, and in some other areas, this isn t harmful. It
becomes harmful when it enters your bloodstream so when there is an opening in
your skin, a cut, and the bacteriainfects the cut. The level and strength of the effects

Skin infections vary and consist of boils, impetigo, cellulitis, and Staphylococcal
scalded skin syndrome. In regard to food poisoning, you may notice nausea and
vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration or low blood pressure. Bacteremia is when the
staphylococcus enters your blood, this can affect your internal organs, bones,
muscles, and any artificial technology that aids in the function of your body. Toxic
shock syndrome can cause fever, nausea, vomiting, a rash on the palms of your
hands and the bottom of your feet, confusion, muscle aches, diarrhea, and
abdominal pain. Septic arthritis can cause swelling of joints, pain in joints, and
fever. If symptoms such as pus filled blisters, fever, or painful irritated skin you
should consult your doctor immediately. If staph bacteria ends up occupying your
blood, an infection that affects your whole body may emerge. This is called sepsis,
which can cause septic shock, extremely low blood pressure this can cause

Rationalism In The Comedian
Rationalizing the specifically defined motivations and peculiarly carried behaviors of
the characters, Rorschach s paranoid based inclinations side by side with Veidt s
narcissistic tendencies, working to comment on how psychological struggles can
change the outcome of individuals to ruination. Inhibited by his own paranoia,
Rorschach s mistrustful perception of the world leads him astray, fating his
destination to one of utter destruction. Slowly leading Rorschach to the end, his
overly suspicious actions begin with the death of Edward Blake, the beginning of the
disappearance of the masked adventurers. Paranoid that the case surrounding The
Comedian would not be solved, Rorschach decided that the only way to guarantee
legitimate answers was to take matters into his own hands. Naturally, Rorschach truly
believed that his suspicions would lead him to justice, yet this exact paranoia
ultimately drives him into his own havoc. The first instance in which the validity of
Rorschach s psychological ideals are questioned is seen when Dreiberg states Don t
you think that s maybe a little paranoid? (20, 1). Unaware of his strange disposition,
Rorschachs tendency towards paranoid behavior blinds him from seeing reality as it
really is. For this reason he acts irrationally, ultimately assuming blaming individuals
for situations that may in fact have definite and legitimate reasoning or answers, why
he immediately put the blame on those close to The Comedian rather than accepting
Chinese Views on Death and Dying Burial Techniques,...
Chinese religion and strict cultural beliefs are inseparable from the death rites
performed. Many different names for death are scattered throughout Chinese history,
including an ideogram that depicts a person kneeling in front of their ancestor s
bones 1. In Chinese culture, death rites are intricate and well thought out works on
preparing one for the afterlife and rebirth. Chinese funeral rites have strict guidelines
as to where the rites are to be performed, how the rites are performed (ritualbathing of
the corpse), the dress of the attendees and the dead, the transfer of material goods on
Earth to the dead, acknowledgement of the deceased and the actual burialof the body.
All these sacred rites are performed by specialists (usually... Show more content on

Not much unlike Western culture, different colors hint to a time of mourning. Instead
of wearing black (like in Western cultures), those who are mourning the deceased in
China are seen wearing white clothes, shoes and cloaks that are usually made out of
sackcloth or hemp. Although mourning colors differ in different parts of China, white
is the universal color of mourning for the Chinese. These mourning clothes are
usually ragged, unbleached, unhemmed and white. 5
The corpse must go through a series of cleansings and blessings before it is
allowed to be buried. A ritualized bathing of the corpse is required before it goes on
to the next step in the rites. In south China the water is not gathered by the family
themselves, but rather, bought from a deity of a sacred well. This particular rite is
called mai shui or roughly translated, buying water . There are

gentle dab on the forehead with the sacred water. Along with the cleaning is the
donning of new clothes on the corpse.
The next step in the funerary rites would be the transfer of material goods to the
dead. Things like paper clothes, cardboard houses, furniture and servants and other
things the dead might need in the afterlife would be transferred into the world of the

Penicillin Vs Antiseptics
There are many ways to compare and contrast hand sanitizers and penicillin.
Antiseptics and Penicillin which is an antibiotic both have a common intention,
which is to kill bacteria. However while both of them are similar and may have a
similar foundation which is to kill bacteria and living pathogen, they are also very
different in their own ways. To begin, antiseptics such as hand sanitizers which are
what have been observed during this lab, are mainly used for external purposes like
our skin and external tissue, or any openings that have occurred due to cuts. An
example is how we apply hand sanitizer on our hands, we don t take it orally through
our mouths. The substance is also used to inhibit the growth of microorganisms such
as bacteria, and try to keep ourselves as sanitized as we can.... Show more content on

They don t necessarily target certain bacteria and are mainly for daily usage or
frequent use. For example, penicillin needs to be prescribed by a doctor while hand
sanitizers are used in our daily lives mainly every day without a requirement of
prescriptions. Also the ingredients in antiseptics are different as they are applied on
external skin and don t come in contact with any internal body part. The active
ingredient in antiseptics is usually a form of alcohol like ethyl alcohol. On the other
hand, penicillin is an antibiotic which are medical substances that are taken to destroy
and inhibit the bacterial growth inside the human body. They are used to cure the
body of infections and diseases that are caused by bacteria inside the body. It is not a
preventative measure against bacterial infections, but a treatment to stop the growth
of bacteria and provide medical help. Penicillin being an antibiotic is used internally
and has the same function. It comes from the genus Penicillium and the ingredient
from which it is derived is
Research Paper On Myasthenia Gravis
Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is an autoimmune neuromuscular disorder that is
characterized by fatigue and exhaustion of muscle. The skeletal muscles is having
different degrees of weakness and this occurs when nerve cells and muscle are not be
able to communicate efficiently and becomes impaired. This impairment put a stop to
the muscle contraction from occurring which can lead to muscle weakness.
Myasthenia Gravisoriginally comes from the Latin and Greek words that means
grave muscle weakness . According to Osserman (as cited in Turner, 2007) MG is
divided into four groups based on the severity of the disease ocular myasthenia,
generalised myasthenia of mild or moderate severity, severe generalised myasthenia,

of MG, the signs and symptoms of MG, and its impact to the society; while the

disease.
This paragraph looks into the epidemiology of Myasthenia Gravis in Malaysia and
other parts of the world. Epidemiology is a branch of medicine that investigates
factors contributing to increased health or the occurrence of a disease in a particular
population (Beaglehole, Bonita, Kjellström, 1993; Tucker, Phillips, Murphy,

Substitution And Elimination Reaction Lab Report
Substitution and Elimination Reactions Substitution reactions replace a functional
group with a new group. These reactions compete with elimination reactions in which
a group is eliminated and a ПЂ (pi) bond is formed. Substitution reactions occur
when a nucleophile is added to an electrophile/substrate. Elimination reactions occur
when a base is added to an electrophile/substrate. The electrophile must contain a
leaving group to be considered a substrate. Alkyl Halides Alkyl Halides are the
common substrate used in substitution and elimination reactions. Alkyl Halides are
halogen containing alkane compounds. These compounds are commonly used as the
electrophile in substitution reactions. Naming Alkyl Halides is similar to naming
alkanes. Halogen substituents are named just like alkane substituents, for example if
there is a chlorine attached to an ethane the chlorine substituent will be named using
the word chloro . The other halogens are named using the words flouro , bromo , and
iodo respectively. These possible substituents are listed alphabetically along with the
alkane substituents. When dealing with alkyl halides it is important to note that the
carbons attached to the halogens and the carbons attached to those carbons are
involved in the reaction process, therefore we designate these carbons with special
symbols to differentiate them from the rest of the molecule. The carbon atom that is
bonded to the halogen is designated the О± (alpha) carbon. The carbons that are

NARRATIVE
During the collision, a gold 2000 Saturn LS1, driven by Cheri E. Post, was
reportedly being pursued by a black 2014 Ford Mustang GT, driven by Jordan M.
Kinne, after a drug deal gone bad. The Saturn and Ford entered the ramp from
Interstate 55 southbound to Tudor Avenue traveling the wrong way. While traveling
from Tudor Avenue to Interstate 55, the Saturn and Ford entered the path of a silver
2005 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Pierre D. Manley. Once in the path of the
Chevrolet, the front passenger side of the Saturn struck the front passenger side of the
Chevrolet.
After striking the Chevrolet, the Saturn was redirected to its left (south), where it
struck the concrete wall of the ramp. The Saturn deflected off the wall, and
traveled back across the roadway to the right (north), before coming to rest against
the concrete wall bordering the north side of the roadway. In its final resting
position, the Saturn was facing northeast. After being struck by the Saturn, the
Chevrolet spun clockwise, where it was then struck on the front driver side by the
front driver side of the Ford. After being struck by the Ford, the Chevrolet was
redirected back, where it came to final rest with its back end near the concrete wall
on the north side of the ramp. In its final resting position the Chevrolet was
Australian Banks Are Hungry For Foreign Debt Essay
Australian banks are hungry for foreign debt, which has driven down funding costs
for U.S. borrowers, and tempted more overseas firms to take on Australian debt.
Some firms that were attracted to the down funding costs are Apple Inc., Intel
Corp., Ford Motor Co., and Coca Cola Co. These companies have sold kangaroo
bonds at high values, with Apple s being the highest and valued at A$2.25 billion. A
lot is also going on in Australia. Australia recently celebrated a 25 year streak of
being recession less. Twenty five years of being recession less had impacts on
Australia s stocks, bonds, and property. Australia is enjoying the longest economic
expansion in the developed world. Their credit rating has been downgraded by S P
due to political issues. With everything going on in Australia, it is growing at a fast
pace, faster than most other countries in the world.
Background Information
For years, big businesses have declared the Australian debt market as too small and
uncertain. Australia had a sharp drop in funding costs that had brought the attention
of many high profile U.S. companies such as Apple Inc., Intel Corp., and Coca Cola
Co. These companies have recently turned to Australia for the first time to raise debt
with kangaroo bonds. A Kangaroo Bondis a type of foreign bond that is issued in the
Australian market by non Australian firms and is denominated in Australian currency.

ways: by GCF, through the form X2+BX+C, through the form AX2+ BX+C, and
by graphing. There is a way that Mrs. Ladner teaches to factor called Big X
Bottoms Up that uses either the X2+BX+C or AX2+BX+C. To do this method of
factoring you first need to draw an X. Then, after that, you multiply A and C (if
there is no A it means that A=1), and put it in the top of the X. Put B in the
underside of the X. Factor AC until you find the pair that equals B when either added
or subtracted to or from each other. Divide these by A and put them in the proper
Theatre and Its Double
Le Théâtre et son Double (The Theatre and Its Double) Antonin Artaud The
Theatre and Its Double was first published in French in 1938. It is a collection of
essays, manifestos, and letters all written by the French artist and theatritician
Antonin Artaud (1896 1948). Artaud spent much of his life in and out of asylums
and addicted to laudanum and other opiates prescribed to help his so called
madness . During his free times, he wrote, acted, and traveled. Artaud was
profoundly moved by a Balinese dance he saw in 1931. He traveled to Mexico in
1936, lived with a group of Tarahumaran Indians, and experimented with peyote. He
was institutionalized in 1937, following an incident in Ireland. His friends were able

He frequently uses the term hieroglyph as a way to represent something visually
and without words, as the Egyptians did with hieroglyphs. Artaud seems to prefer
the strict rules of Balinese theatre to the relative freedom of European/Occidental
theatre. Of this idea of pure theatre, which is merely theoretical in the Occident and
to which no one has ever attempted to give the least reality, the Balinese off us a
stupefying realization, suppressing all possibility of recourse to words for the
elucidation of the most abstract themes inventing a language of gesture to be
developed in space, a language without meaning except in the circumstances of the
stage (61). Oriental and Occidental Theatre Here Artaud criticizes Occidental theatre
for its dependence on the word and praises Oriental theatre for its independence
from it. Again, Oriental theatre is superior because of its use of imagery and its
metaphysical nature, whereas Occidental theatre is inferior because it is absorbed in
psychology and internal struggles. It is not a matter of suppressing speech in the
theatre but of changing its role, and especially of reducing its position, of considering
it as something else than a means of conducting human characters to their external
ends, since the theatre is concerned only with the way feelings and passions conflict
with one another, and man with man, in life (72). No More Masterpieces In this essay,

Effects of Gender and Sex Role Orientation on Attitudes Toward Dependent
Personality Disorder
Dependent personality disorder (DPD) is characterized by a passive need for
reassurance, direction, and support. Those with DPD typically view themselves as
helpless and weak and others as competent and strong (Disney, 2013). According to
the American Psychological Association (APA, 2013), DPD is one of the most
commonly diagnosed personality disorders. However, compared to other
personality disorders, there has been little research completed on DPD and little
research regarding sex differences in those diagnosed with DPD (Disney, 2013;
Loas, Cormier, Perez Diaz, 2011). Specifically, there is a dearth of research regarding
attitudes toward ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, evidence suggests that simply being a female appears to make one more
likely to be diagnosed with DPD (Loas et al., 2011). Some researchers argue that
more women are diagnosed with DPD due to traditional gender stereotypes. These
traditional gender stereotypes suggest that men are independent and assertive and
women are dependent and passive (Berk Rhodes, 2005). Currently, there is little
research investigating the attitudes toward men diagnosed with DPD. Instead, the
vast majority of research regarding sex differences in DPD focuses on behavioral
manifestations of dependency needs. For example, Loas et al. (2011) found that men
with DPD were more likely to engage in spousal abuse. Additionally, Kierski and
Blazina (2009) found that, despite equal dependency needs, men are more likely to
deny dependency needs in an effort to conform to societal pressures. Perhaps
understanding the attitudes toward men diagnosed with DPD would help inform the
degree of societal pressure placed on men to conform to traditionally masculine
stereotypes (Bohan, 2002).
Some researchers suggest that the current personality disorder diagnostic system is
biased toward diagnosing women with DPD (Barzega et al., 2001; Disney, 2013;
Klonsky et al., 2002). This is likely due to the relationship between DPD diagnostic
criteria and traditional gender stereotypes (Berk Rhodes, 2005; Disney, 2013). A

These men would create images of Paris that fit their styles, Hemingway the cynical
realist and Fitzgerald the romantic. Hemingway s rational for moving to the
Montparnasse district of Paris in late 1921 had much to do with the triving literary
community already established there. Ezra Pound had convinced James Joyce to
move there, and Joyce was held in the highest esteem by the young American
writers: That awesome presence alone, and of course the publication of Ulysses in
1922, made Paris the capital of the literary world for many young writers,
Hemingway and Fitzgerald among them. 2 In addition, Paris was free from the
restrictions of Phroibition, and food and drink at the local cafes cost about as
much as a sandwich and soda at a convieninece store back home.3 Despite the
cheap cost of living, Hemingway took it upon himself to affect as much of the
bohemian lifestyle as possible. In A Moveable Feast, he describes the literary joys
of viewing CГ©zanne while hungry: There you could always go into the
Luxembourge museum and all the paintings were sharpended and clearer and more
beautiful if you were belly empty, hollow hungry. I learned to understand Cezane

act of taking on elements of the personas of the artists that these writers tried to

But unlike ordinary students without athletics, student athletes must also many times

Also of note are the new wearable devices. Today, instead of pulling out our wallet
to pay for groceries, we can simply scan our Apple Watch in front of an Apple Pay
terminal and have the funds immediately deducted from our account. When
arriving at the airport, your connected device can sense your current location and
immediately let your bank know you are preparing for a trip. As you drive, your
connected vehicle can download real time traffic and make suggested route
changes before you get stuck in traffic. More importantly, many modern vehicles
are equipped with sensors that can detect a collision and immediately dispatch help.
The connected world has far exceeded our expectations. One area of concern that
revolves around the IoT is cyber security. Throughout the 2016 presidential
primaries, cyber security has become an increasingly hot topic. During the January
17th, 2016 Democratic Primary Debate, cyber security was discussed no less than
six times (Leatherby, 2016). As the IoT continues to expand, hackers have expanded
their attacks as well. In July of 2015, hackers were able to remotely take control of
the systems onboard a Jeep Cherokee and completely disable the vehicle (Kerner,

A Common International Business Discussion
A common international business discussion in America today, is the assumption of
an ominous Chinese power play in business. Americans assume that the combination
of industry leverage and sheer number in population gives China a global advantage
that they can exploit at will, a card they are sitting on, waiting to play. To help
explore this concept, I will focus on Chinas tech industry. We will examine some of
China s behemoth corporations in this market segment and compare them to their
equivalents in the United States. Chinese corporations are subject to government
oversight and many are restricted to the size of their economies due to relationships
the government has created with the rest of the global economy. If the oversight and
restrictions did not exist, would these corporations dominate the tech industry, or will
they dominate regardless?
Due to China s huge economic growth and their large population, the equivalents to
Apple, HP, Google, and Amazon in the once isolated Chinese eco system are much
larger than their American counterparts. Now these behemoths are pacing into the US
marketspace; Lenovo through acquisitions, Alibaba through a New York Stock
Exchange Public Offering, Xiaomi through growth of their smartphone, and Huawei
by changing the costs of cutting edge network technology. Integration with Chinese
technology raises concerns for Americans, their allies, and their respective policy
makers. How much worse will the current Chinese hacking
Unit 1 Health And Social Care Essay
For this unit we have been looking at communication is all its vast ways. We have
been studying the environmental factors and barriers that can occur in health and
social care settings. For this task I have been asked to explain those factors that
influence communication and interpersonal interactions in health and social care
environments and to also look at the negative barriers to communication.
Environmental Factors * Noise * Setting * Lighting * Seating * Space * Time
Noise In a health and social care setting such as a Hospital, noise would be
appropriate to drown out the sounds of private conversations. For example, if a

These are all factors that increases the effectiveness of the session, keeping it
therapeutic of course. Balancing time is key, and if this is done correctly, this will
be a positive factor. When dealing with children in a nursery, teachers need to keep
accurate pace of time with the amount of activities done in the day. Children loose
interest very quickly and are easily influenced by other peers, so its very easy for
one child to break the circle of concentration. Making short, captivating activities
that are both educational and fun are the most effective ways of keeping children
busy. These need to be controlled by time, because if they are being taught for too
long, they will loose interest. This is a negative factor. Seating In a nursery,
children come together for activities and sit with each other on tables to do
colouring or work, etc. If the seating is too far apart, communication will not be
effective as the children won t be able to hear what the teachers are saying. They
may also not be able to hear themselves talking to each other. group work would be
almost impossible being so far away. This is partly to with the control the teachers
have over the children, but seating placement is key, and needs to be organised
correctly. This is a negative factor. When patients visit the sexual health clinics for
check ups or to collect results, it can be a little embarrassing to

Stocks On The Stock Market
There are thousands of stocks on the stock market. It can be a daunting task
deciding which stocks to invest in. Typically stocks are broken into two general
categories: growth stocks and value stocks. Growth stocks are typically considered
companies that are expected to increase at rates above the average rate of the
market. These investments typically do not pay any form of dividends, preferring
to reinvest their earnings back into projects with the hope of helping the company
to develop and expand even further. Growth stocks do not immediately produce
results; most of the value is derived from the future earnings. In essence, you are
investing in what the company will become instead of what the company is now.
Value stocks are companies that are or close to full maturity. There is not a lot of
room for growth with this stocks. Because of this, these stocks usually pay out
dividends to make their investors happy. In essence, you are investing in what the
company is now and what it will be in the future. The tendency for most new
investors is to go for the growth stocks, because they seem attractive and provide the
most potential for returns. These are the stocks that can soar up 100% in a year.
While exciting, these stocks are also the ones that can plunge very quickly and cause
panic in the market. So what should you be doing? Look for undervalue stocks.
Investing in undervalue stocks is the ticket to make great returns year after year.

Astronomy a Science, Astrology a Pseudo-Science
The word science probably brings many different pictures into your mind, some
being: a fat textbook, white lab coats, microscopes, an astronomer looking through a
telescope, a naturalist in the rainforest, Einstein s equations scribbled on a board, the
launch of the space shuttle, bubbling beakers.... All of those images reflect some
aspect of science, but none of them provides a full picture of what science
completely is. Science is defined to be the knowledge attained through study or
practice, or knowledge covering general truths of the operation of general laws,
especially as obtained and tested through scientific methodand concerned with the
physical world.
According to the TOK book, astronomy is considered a science and astrology a
pseudo science. Do you agree? Before I start discussing this statement, we should
know what science, pseudo science and astronomy, astrology really is. Science is
the pursuit and application of knowledge and understanding of the natural and social
world following a systematic methodology based on evidence. pseudo science is a
concept that is considered to be science but it does not have enough evidence to go
along side with it and prove the concept to be right. Astronomy is a science that
studies everything outside of the earth s atmosphere, such as planets, stars, asteroids,
galaxies; and the properties and relationships of those celestial bodies. Astronomers
base their studies on research and observation. Astrology on the other hand,

In this quote there is an underlying experience from it s author, Pearl S. Buck, that
contributes an explanation while solidifying the information. Buck spent most her
childhood in China, living at home with an American family and outside in a
Chinese society, and all the while observing and experiencing two lives. In
correlation to the quote, Buck has seen the divide of the societies, even in its
maternal ways, and vocalizes how no matter how a motherchooses to show care and
affection for their child, loveis deeply rooted into their practices. To set a particular
example, take a mother receiving news her child is at the top of their class. Now the

Using Deep Structured Learning Or Deep Machine
Learning Essay
INTRODUCTION
Deep Learning (or deep structured learning, or hierarchical learning or deep machine
learning) is a branch of Machine Learning which is based on a set of algorithms that
attempts to model high level abstractions in data by using a deep graph with multiple
processing layers which are composed of multiple non linear and linear
transformations.
Applying Deep Learning to Building Automation Sensors
Sensors such as motion detectors, photocells, CO2 and smoke detectors are used
primarily for energy savings and safety, in building automation. However, next
generation buildings are intended to be significantly more intelligent, having the
capability to analyze space utilization, monitor occupants comfort, and thereby
generate business intelligence. Building automation infrastructure that supports such
robust features, requires considerably richer information. Since the current sensing
solutions are limited in their ability to address this need, a new generation of smart
sensors are required which enhances the flexibility, reliability, granularity and
accuracy of the data they provide.
Data Analytics at the Sensor Node
The latest era of Internet of Things (IoT), there arises an opportunity to introduce a
new approach to building automation that will decentralize the architecture and push
the analytics processing to the sensor unit instead of a central server or cloud. This is
commonly referred to as fog computing, or edge computing, and this approach
provides real time

Politics Of The Natural In The Us History And Popular...
The definition of natural is a controversial argument that seems to never have a
specific view. Many people use Nature to identify social identifies or use social
identities to attempt to figure out the true meaning of Nature. History has made a
hole in the perception of what is natural to people, for this same reason, there exist
many people who believe white individuals have the ideology that they are supreme.
Through this ideology laws were made and for the most part, white males had a slight
higher advantage from women of both white and color. Through readings that

The Structure of Biblical Authority
In his book, Structure of Biblical Authority, Meredith Kline explains, describes, and
defends the suzerain vassal paradigm of the biblical covenant and canon of Scripture.
Scripture s authority, according to Kline is not merely related to its ontology (that
God has spoken it); but in its basic economic form, Scripture is a covenantal
document and therefore is authoritative. It is through this covenant that God binds
himself to his covenant people and they to him. As our covenant suzerain, God
sovereignly rules his vassals with covenant stipulations.
Part One
In chapter one, Formal Origins of Biblical Canon, Kline shows how the origin of the
Old Testament canon, coincided with the founding of Israel at the establishment of

Rather, as Kline shows, they are two identical tablets; one was for the suzerain, the
other for the people. Such is the nature of a covenant. Jesus summary of the law into
two commands was not to distinguish to separable areas of life, but two
complementary aspects of our responsibility.
In chapter two, Dynastic Covenant, Kline answers several errant views of the nature
and meaning of Deuteronomy. Kline shows that the basic structure of the book is
actually covenantal: preamble (1:1 5), prologue (1:6 4:49), stipulations (5 26), curses
and blessings (27 30), and succession arrangements (31 34).

with the law prior to it coming into force.
CASL also contains provisions regarding the unsolicited installation of computer
programs. These provisions will not come into force until January 15, 2015, and are

To demonstrate how CASL affects your business, consider the following six scenarios.
SCENARIO 1: A customer purchases a product from your online store. During the
checkout process, the customer provides his or her email address for the purposes of
obtaining an e receipt. Can you add this customer to your marketing list?
Yes, but only for the two year period immediately following such purchase.
Consent to receive CEMs is implied where the sender and recipient have an existing

exists where the sender and recipient have engaged in certain specified types of
business together in the two years preceding the date on which the CEM is sent (for
example, the purchase or lease of a product, or existence of a written contract) or
where the recipient of the CEM has made an inquiry to the sender in the previous six
months.

The California Drought And The Proper Allocation Of

The California Drought and the Proper Allocation of Water Resources
Intro:
The state of California is in the midst of a five year drought. The results of which are
beginning to reek havoc on the state s municipalities, farms and wetland habitats. If
the state continues as is supporting in thirsty agricultural industries, towns and cities
at current levels, not only will this exacerbate already tenuous water supply problem
within the state it will have ripple affects throughout the South West. Surrounding
states will have to adopt even more stringent restriction for farms, cities and
industries which may have further calamitous economic results. However, the most
difficult questions like proper allocation or modifying water rights have yet to be
answered and likely will not be resolved before California s water situation worsens.
Last April standing in front of a snowpack at just 5% of normal levels, Governor
Jerry Brown declared the drought in California has reached a crisis level and
instituted state wide water restriction for towns, cities and municipalities. He called
for a 25% reduction of water usage by urging Californians flush less, take shorter
showers, and let lawns turn brown. Although agriculture accounts for roughly 80%
(Northern California Water Association) of all human consumption of water this
industry was exempted any restriction by the governor. With a drought which shows
no sign of letting up, powerful farm and environmental lobbies, difficult to
The Recovery of Nevada
Nevada Description Nevada was admitted into the United States in 1864. The
primary geographical landmark of this state is the Great Basin Desert national
park, causing over 80 percent of Nevada s land to be owned and managed by the
federal government. Nevada borders five states and is one of the states that
connects to from the Four Corners. Nevada also has the Sierra Nevada Mountains
and the Rocky Mountains as its major landmarks. Most of the population resides in
two regions, Washoe County and Clark County. These two counties are separated by
450 miles. Nevada does not levy an income tax and is instead dependant on the
gaming and tourism industries for its tax revenue. Nevada also depends heavily on
these industries along with federal activities (including military bases and training
sites), mining, warehousing, manufacturing, and agriculture for its jobs. In 2010,
gaming revenues reached an all time low in Nevada, resulting in a 14 percent
decline from 2009. As of June 2010, unemployment is at 22 percent and Nevada is
listed as the state with the highest foreclosure rate in the United States. Influences
Nevada possesses a conservative government base with a constitution granting the
most power possible to the citizens of Nevada. With this perspective in place, the
government drastically cut funding and balanced the Nevada government s budget to
a realistic amount in 2010, reducing overall spending by 17 percent. The primary
emphasis for state spending has
Domestic Policy And Selling Bread
Domestic Policy and Selling Bread
Despite it being a fiscal burden, the Egyptian state was able to maintain its food
subsidy system for more than 50 years. An impressive feat, but it came with its
own set of challenges. The food subsidy system is broken up in two types: ration
cards and subsidized bread. Ration cards allow lower income families to buy an
allocated amount of subsidized staple foods (like sugar and cooking oil) once a
month. Bread subsidies, on the other hand, are universal. This means anyone in Egypt
is entitled to buying cheap baladi (local) bread from government sponsored bakeries
every single day. Given this universality, changes in bread prices carry repercussions
that are felt by all sectors of the population. For this reason, this section will mainly
focus on subsidized bread.
Korotayev and Zinkina marvel on the measures taken by the Egyptian government in
cushioning citizens from the impact of increasing price volatility. They praise these
efforts by saying, In the period of rapid growth in world food prices, including wheat
prices, Mubarak s regime made heroic (and successful!) efforts to preserve the
price of baladi bread at the same level. Accordingly, even in the midst of crisis, any
Egyptian could still buy 20 loaves (130 grams each) of subsidized bread a day for 1
[Egyptian] pound (about 20 cents) more than 2 kg of bread! One detects their elation
with such an undertaking, because as they point out this means: even for those who

Literary Analysis Of Roman Fever
In Roman Fever by Edith Wharton s, Grace Ansley and Alida Slade begin to discuss
their past and present with one another revealing some skeletons in the closet.
Wharton wanted the readers to focus on the betrayal from a so called friend Mrs.
Ansley. Furthermore, Wharton wanted the readers to think about deceit in the story
by actively misleading Mrs. Slade. In the end, what was noted to be miserable, gains
notoriety by revealing the ultimate secret.
The setting of Roman Fever takes place in a Roman restaurant terrace. Surrounded by
beautiful sunsets and prior history, It tends to take a toll on both women that leads to
a great deal of emotion.
As young aged women in Rome, young Grace was always sweet and quiet. Alida
was engaged to Delphin. Suspecting that her friend may have feelings for her
fiancГ©, Alida wrote a misleading letter to Grace, requesting that they meet at the
Colosseum, signed with Delphin Slades initials. However, the temperatures near the
Forum and Colosseum at night can be brutal, and young Grace is liable to become
ill. It ultimately led to Grace and Alida s friendship to deteriorate.
One can find it rather difficult to believe that these two women were actually
childhood companions. They appear to be the opposite of one another. Mrs. Slade,
who is described as fuller, and higher in color, with a small determined nose
supported with vigorous black eyebrows, (Wharton) seems to be as arrogant and
envious of Mrs. Ansley. Mrs. Ansley, however, was
The Problem Of Immigration And Immigration
This paper will examine the problem of Immigration and Immigration Law. I will
first discuss what Immigration Law is and how it works, then I will define the
number one problem of immigration laws, illegal immigration and why it s so
important to follow procedures. It will also address the consequences after violating
the laws. Next the paper discusses three policy solutions to the problems of illegal
immigration: Legalization of Immigrants, Strengthen Border Security, and
Immigration Amnesty. The paper will first explain each policy solution. Then it will
analyze the pros and cons, and potential strengths and weakness of each solution. Last
this paper will offer some personal observations on the problem of immigration.
Three government policy solutions to the problem of illegal immigration include the
Legalization of Illegal Immigrants, the Secure Fence Act of 2006, and Amnesty. If
these three government policies were truly implemented it will help to solve and cut
back in illegal immigration activity in the United States.
Section II
Immigration law refers to the rules established by the federal government for
determining who is allowed to enter the country, and for how long. It also governs the
naturalization process for those who desire to become United States citizens. Finally,
when foreign nationals enter without permission, overstay their visit, or otherwise
lose their legal status, they become illegal immigrants, immigration law controls how

Coca-Cola on Operations Management
| Coca Cola|
Background Dr. John S. Pemberton invented Coca Cola in Atlanta, Georgia in
May 1886. Coca Cola first began selling their product at a soda fountain in Jacob s
Pharmacy in Atlanta. The name came about when Dr. Pemberton s bookkeeper,
Frank Robinson suggested it. He even wrote out the script as seen today on the
Coke bottles. Initially, Coca Cola averaged nine drinks a day in the first year of
their sales, adding up to $50 annual revenue. Today products of The Coca Cola
Company are consumed at the rate of 1.6 billion drinks per day and more. The Coca

Quality assurance is how Coca Cola guarantees that it will keep its customer base.
Coca Cola assures quality by making sure to focus on the four key consumer related
components of their product; coca cola s Ingredients, materials, the bottling process,
and the manufacturing process. This way they can regulate every step of the process
to keep the people, materials, machines, and ingredients safe while meeting their level
of required quality.
Coca Cola is a global brand and as such, needs to meet the same standards
throughout every manufacturer and supplier. Consistency is one of the brands key
strengths and that means Coca Cola needs to be the same product in every bottle, no
matter where it s from. To manage their quality Coca Cola put the KORE system
into place. This system holds all operations to the same quality standards and
protocols. Coca Cola also installed new managers in three of their divisions to ensure
successful direction of the company.
Strategies
The company s main strategy is expansion of geography. They plan on acquiring
through strategic acquisitions including bottled water companies and springs. In
addition they will expand their presence by broadening their geographic footprint
through strategic acquisitions. They are dedicated to creating a multi cultural team.
Coca Cola is also dedicated to increasing their demand by updating packaging
Comparison Between John Q And The Movie A Long Way

There is so many bad things that happen in our world every single day that the best
way for people to fix their wrongs is with redemption. In the Movie John Q. and the
book A Long way Gone both of the main characters us redemption to fix their

always the best option. Lots of horrible things can happen, but can we correct those
things? Yes we can correct the things that are bad by standing up for what we believe

Harriet Tubm Conductor On The Underground Railroad
According to the story Harriet Tubman: Conductor on the Underground Railroad,
Harriet did not think wisely, she made a wrong decision for breaking the law.
Harriet ran away with slaves, she could have hurt the slaves while running away.
The slaves had no warm clothes for the night and they could of starve to death in
the winter time. Also, she did not take any supplies with her that could have helped
her while running away. Critics may argue, running away with the slaves will help
them no longer live with their owners while suffering in their hands. However, the
slaves had a chance to die in the middle of nowhere, without food and excellent gear.
Another way she broke the law is by assaulting a slave with a gun. By pointing the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Living With Family
Living alone or living with family has its advantages and disadvantages which
include the amount of responsibilities, freedom and financial stability a person
has.The majority of young adults for years dream about the day they finally get to
move out of their parents home and start living independently. Suddenly when it s
time to move out and live on their own it becomes overwhelming. Most teenagers
think they are ready to take on the responsibilityof living independently but when
reality sets in, they realize that providing for themselves is surprisingly more difficult
than living with their family.
When living with parents a good portion of responsibility a young adult is given are
tasks to get them prepared for early adulthood. This means sharing responsibilities
that contribute to the house such as chores. For example, today they re responsible
for washing the dishes, the next day cleaning the living room and the bathroom. A
disadvantage of living with parents would be the amount of freedom that is given.
For example, in most households, there is a set curfew time to be home by, and the
consequences of arriving late past the curfew time would be getting grounded, no
internet for two days, or getting that favorite play system taken away. There is no
talking on the phone past certain hours, not being allowed to go to that concert that s
been on their to do list because mom and dad would rather have them stay home.
Although their freedom is limited, for the most part,
Aol Time Warner- What Went Wrong
In January 2000, AOL announced that it would be acquiring Time Warner through a
complete stock deal to create the largest media company in the world. Not only was
the merger the biggest ever in the media industry, it was also one of the biggest in the
history of the corporate world. As per the merger agreement, AOL and Time Warner
stock was converted to AOL Time Warner stock. AOL shareholders received one
share of AOL Time Warner for each AOL share owned and Time Warner
shareholders received 1.5 shares of AOL Time Warner for each Time Warner share
they owned. While AOL shareholders owned 55% of the new company, the
remaining was held by Time Warner. The merger was soon being talked of as the
beginning of a new trend: the coming together... Show more content on

AOL joined hands with Time Warner to create synergy between its online businesses
and Warner s media business.
Two significant factors affected the post merger company. One, the dot com burst
meant adverse effect on AOL s advertising revenues. And two, dial up subscribers
decreased thereby affecting revenues and overall profitability of AOL. A key element
in the turnaround strategy should be to offer free content on its portal. This strategy
will benefit AOL in attracting more online users and advertising revenues.
When AOL began operations it soon became the leading company for pay online
subscriber service, bringing easy to use Internet service to more than 30 million
users. AOL was mainly based on around its dial up business. With customers
shifting to broadband, AOL was losing subscribers rapidly. The dial up segment
though profitable, was declining in revenues having lost 2.6 million subscribers in
a period of one year. The share price of AOL Time Warner fell by 60% after the
merger. The merger was heavily criticized from all quarters.
Growth in advertising business came with AOL establishing itself as a support
service rather than an internet access provider. Seeing AOL s success Google
entered into a global advertising partnership with the AOL. Google acquired a 5%
equity stake in AOL for US$ 1 billion. In broadband, to be able to beat the
competition they should be the first organization to
The Influence Of Cultural Changes In Dracula
After Bram Stoker published the iconic vampire classic, Dracula, in 1897, the world
of literary vampires grew more popular and eventually, dramatically shifted towards
cultural changes revolving around global historical events and new American values.
As the Second Industrial Revolution approached in the end of the nineteenth and
early twentieth centuries, vampirism became based on the accelerating influences of
science and technology, as well as, religion and gender. (Dartmouth) Stoker is
described to have transformed vampirefolklore into a literary icon by emphasizing the
nature of the vampire [as a threat of the unknown] and placing it into a modern
setting. (Shepard, 2010) As vampires gained momentum, they became more
disturbing and dynamic: from mythical monsters straying far away from humanity to
even ones centered in love triangles who sought for empathy. America s cultural
identity ultimately reflected onto vampire literature, creating a chain reaction of
distinct elements that included secularization, psychoanalysis, and social policy.
The cultural influences on vampires first affected their origins and setting; vampires
were no longer limited to European countries like the United Kingdom or Romania.
In fact, according to Dartmouth, the United States gradually became the vampire
capital of the world in the twentieth century. American urbanization dramatically
altered lifestyles and towards the 1920s, a majority of the population lived in cities,

Wild Card Scenarios
Fresh off what was a fairly predictable Wild Card weekend (at least for me), we are
on to the Divisional Round. Here is where things begin to get interesting. The
Seattle Seahawks will travel to the Georgia Dome and take on the 11 5 Atlanta
Falcons. The Houston Texans will head up to hostile territory and take on the
heavily favored New England Patriots. The Steelers head to Arrowhead to take on
the Chiefs in what is said to be blistering cold temperatures. And what is likely to
be the most intriguing matchup of the weekend, the Green Bay Packers head to
Dallas as a 4 pt. underdog to take on the Cowboys. The Seattle Seahawks will travel
to the Georgia Dome and take on the 11 5 Atlanta Falcons. The Houston Texans will

The Packers underachieved at best. QB Aaron Rodgers was put on the hot seat.
Negative rumors swirled around Rodgers, both personally and professionally
which ultimately were excuses for his poor play. Jordy Nelson had just returned
from an ACL injury and it took time for him to get his legs back. Injuries continued
to plague the team, hitting the running core the hardest. The Packers were all but
written off, then in the second half, Rodgers returned to old form. Devonte Adams
stepped up in a big way, taking the lead on offense, finishing the season with 997
yds and 12 TD s. The Cowboys had a much different season. Led by rookie Dak
Prescott, the Cowboys finished their season with a record of 13 3, not without
setting a few records. Dak Prescott has the best completion percentage (67.8), TD
INT ratio (23 4), and passer rating (104.9) by any rookie quarterback in NFL
history. Rookie phenom Ezekiel Elliot led the NFL with 1,631 rushing yards.
Together, this duo has brought the Cowboys back to relevancy all while showcasing
their maturity and readiness. This matchup has all the makings to become the most
exciting game of the season. According to MSN, Nelson, who injured his ribs in the
Wild Card matchup against the Giants is contemplating wearing a Tevlar vest this
weekend. Elliot is reassuring Cowboy fans he is ok to play after a minor car accident

Food Allergies In Children
Controlling/Monitoring Food Allergies in Children: A Rising Concern
A growing concern, the number of food allergens among individuals account for
approximately 30,000 anaphylactic reactions as well as 200 deaths per year in the
United States (Jackson, 2002). Food allergies are common, but can be fatal if proper
action is not implemented or knowledge is not understood beforehand. Food allergy is
defined as an adverse health effect arising from a specific immune response that
occurs reproducibly on exposure to a specific food, (Gupta, Dyer, Jain, Greenhawt,
2013). In other words, one s body misconstrues the food to be harmful, therefore will
respond by producing an allergic reaction. Anaphylaxis is characterized by a severe

A study of practices in Michigan schools found significant needs regarding staff
education and policy development around the growing problem of life threatening
food allergies (Sheetz et al., 2004). It was found that more than one half of the
schools that offered education actually depended on parents of children with food
allergies to educate the staff, with no formal plan to provide school wide education
(Sheetz et al., 2004). This is why it is extremely important to build a team,
consisting of school nurses, pediatricians, staff, parents, teachers, administrators, and
anyone else involved and thus leaving it up to the specific team to manage such
conditions. This team should be required to attend a forum on the specifics, such as
how to administer epinephrine if needed, if a nurse is not available. Having
informational meetings, clearing up misconceptions, answering questions, as well as
informing everyone of the allergies present in the specific school should allow
everyone to be involved and feel comfortable in themselves to be able to administer
action if necessary (Food Allergy Research Education,

Friends; the people whom we know, trust, and love. Friendship is an important part
of all our lives, which is why I chose True Friendship is Unconditional Love as my

you are down. They are the people who, no matter the circumstances, will stay with
you until the very end. Another reason I decided on this credo is because of my friends

Helmut, a white man, insists on being friends with Mark, a black boy, despite the

The Scarlet Letter by Nathanial Hawthorne and The Coquette; or, The History of

is forced to raise her daughter on her own and to wear a scarlet A to mark her

fate and circumstances of each woman in these stories are on the opposite ends of
the spectrum, at the core both comment on ideal womanhood, a woman s sexual

Base jumping is becoming known as one of the most extreme sports the world
knows. To successfully BASE jump one must bound from an exit point , and free
fall from very high places. People say it s too dangerous, and should be outlawed
completely. On the other hand, people like the late Dean Potter used to successfully
jump with his dog in a backpack as he would leap off cliffs falling as much as 3000
feet towards the ground. BASE jumpingis amazing, and isn t for everyone, but it
should at the least remain someone s choice to do it or not in my opinion.
Its known as BASE jumping, and BASE is an acronym that stands for buildings,
antennae, spans, and earth such as cliffs and mountains (Tara L. Allman). These are
all places BASE jumpers hurdle from. They go to these places to perform their sport,
leaping off into the void and free falling. Before smashing into the ground, they
deploy their parachute. There is a high likelihood you will die if you make any
mistakes. So you are effectively saving your own life every time you do it. Simple
right? Not by a long shot. This sport is a huge undertaking. You start off a student,
and only after years learning under a mentor, do you get to wear the invisible
badge of BASE Jumper. BASE jumping is widely viewed by the public as
dangerous and too risky. In many countries and states of the US, BASE jumping is
illegal. In addition, not only is the act of jumping illegal, but BASE jumpers are often
trespassing on someone s property to

  • 2. All Quiet On The Western Front And Sun Also Rises... Comparison between All Quiet on the Western Front and The Sun Also Rises The two books, All Quiet on the Western Front and The Sun Also rises have a number of differences and similarities. I will address the topics, characters, time periods and writing styles along with my opinion on the two books. The topic of All Quiet on the Western Frontdescribes how a German soldier and his friends, in the middle of World War 1, deal with the stresses of the war and how the soldiers cope with the conditions they are in and the deaths of comrades; these soldiers are also friends. The book also conveys the stresses of coping with civilian life when disconnected from the war. The topic of The Sun Also Rises deals with the stresses that a woman goes through after losing her true love in the war. The themes are different as the stories do not mirror each other as far as the plot goes. However, they are similar in the fact that both stories touch on people managing life. I prefer All Quiet on the Western Front because the author wrote the story from the perspective of the soldier, Paul Baumer and the writing make you feel like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All Quiet on the Western Front, most of the main characters are friends who were acquainted with each other before entering the war. The main character describes not only his surroundings but also his feelings throughout the book. In The Sun Also Rises, the characters are similar in the fact that they are also a group of friends. Although there was a similarity, the characters feelings were not emphasized as much. The author in All Quiet on the Western Front described the characters in pronounced detail, in reading the book, I felt like I knew each character. In The Sun Also Rises, it was difficult to relate to the characters as they all had different backgrounds and their feelings going through the story were not as in depth. In addition, the time periods had similarities and

Briefly highlighting various assessments and reports that have identified and highlighted the importance of conceptual understanding enables one to trace back to the hatching of the idea. In addition, outlining the course that got us to where we are today, trying to determine what it means to understand something and how understanding can be assessed assists us in continuing that course of action in the right direction. In 1980, recommendations were made by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics for reforming mathematics instruction in An Agenda for Action. These recommendations were based on results of the second National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) and on data collected by the National Science Foundation (NSF) largely from a study called Priorities in School Mathematics (PRISM). Specifically in the area of fractions, NAEP contended that students inability to compute with fractions was the result of dependence on rote memorization of algorithms and a focus strictly on routine problems. Among eight recommendations, An Agenda for Action called for problem solving to be the focus of school mathematics in the 80 s and basic skills in mathematics to be more than computational fluency. The fourth NAEP showed improvement, but indicated that mathematics instruction still lacked depth,
  • 4. Training Day Alonzo Analysis Training Day The character Alonzo does dominate women but this domination is selective. For example, fourteen and fifty second in the Alonzo verbally threaten the female college student during the drug stop. Alonzo stated move again and I ll slap the taste out your Mouth . But eleven minutes and thirty second Alonzo self disclosed he has four children and refer to one of his children mother as Queens. The term Queen is use to described a woman of foremost or preeminent respect (Dictionary). To be respected is to be equal. I can only conclude Alonzo desire to dominate women is selective. Alonzo used is position as a police officer to take something that is not his. The fifty clause respected. Alonso is not respected, he is feared. Alonzo interaction with the community is negative. The people in the community know Alonzo has power and will not hesitate to use that power against anyone. The prime example of this is fifty one minutes and twenty four second in the film when Bone commented bout Alonzo present in the community Man I m sick of this shit I can t stand that motherfucker . The final clause in traditional masculinity is Physical and mental toughness. Alonzo is physically and mentally strong. For example, throughout the film Alonzo is able to temporary manipulate Jake and force him to do everything he once him to do. There are four types of change are defined by Dunphy and Stace (1993): type1: F ine tuning; type2: Incremental Adjustment; type3: Modular transformation; type4: Corporate transformation. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Modular transformation is change identified by major shifts of one or several departments or divisions. In contrast to incremental adjustment this change can be radical (RUNE TODNEM, 2005, pp 377). Although the new technology companies are developed and applied rapidly, realign departments or divisions is often used in the current traditional companies. It proved this type of change is also useful for the contemporary organizational. Corporate transformation is corporation wide, characterized by radical shifts in business strategy, and revolutionary changes throughout the whole organization (Alannah E. Rafferty, Roland H. Simons, 2006, pp 329). TQM change thus requires corporate transformation since it impacts on mission and core values, affects the power distribution in the organization, impacts on structures, systems and procedures, affects interaction patterns and communication networks, and requires transformational leadership to implement (Morris Abraham, John Crawford, Tom F isher, 1999, pp 113). Dunphy and Stace s (1993) research with 13 service sector organizations in Australia, which had gone through large scale change indicates that for transformational change, a directive/coercive style of leadership is likely to be most successful. Whereas, for incremental adjustment or fine tuning, a consultative/collaborative type

Although this could apply to a mass of the younger generation, this is not true for the entirety. A Mature Minor, defined as a competent young adult, has the right to choose what happens to them medically. Having the independence to exercise these rights would introduce additional medical options that they might avoid due to concerns of remaining discreet. The document states that the refusal of treatments will be respected, with the exception of life threatening conditions. In a case such as Attention Deficit Disorder or ADD, parent does not necessarily know best when it comes to medicating their children. The psychiatric medications used to treat ADD come with extreme risk and harmful side effects. They often contain methylphenidate, a robust stimulant that parallels the effects of amphetamines and cocaine. These stimulates interact with the nervous system and interfere with the delicate inner workings of the brain. The list off negatives effects is extensive and forever expanding. This list does not only consist of a variety of cognitive deficits, but it also includes high blood pressure, irritable and aggressive behavior, extreme depression that can lead to suicide, unexpected stroke, or heart attack; even in young people. Parents should not administer narcotics to treat behavioral issues. Instead, they should implement alternate solutions that are healthier such as one on one tutoring, learning in a controlled environment without distraction, or changing the eating habits of the person involved. In turn, both the parents and the child with ADD gain an understanding of how the individual operates. As a result, the health of the child, to include physical, mental, and emotional categories, flourish as he or she cultivates improved daily habits and skills, enhancing their overall quality of life and their future competency. In accordance with the mature minor doctrine, all young adults must have the right to choose what goes into their bodies, especially when it effects their brain

Inhibited by his own paranoia, Rorschach s mistrustful perception of the world leads him astray, fating his destination to one of utter destruction. Slowly leading Rorschach to the end, his overly suspicious actions begin with the death of Edward Blake, the beginning of the disappearance of the masked adventurers. Paranoid that the case surrounding The Comedian would not be solved, Rorschach decided that the only way to guarantee legitimate answers was to take matters into his own hands. Naturally, Rorschach truly believed that his suspicions would lead him to justice, yet this exact paranoia ultimately drives him into his own havoc. The first instance in which the validity of Rorschach s psychological ideals are questioned is seen when Dreiberg states Don t you think that s maybe a little paranoid? (20, 1). Unaware of his strange disposition, Rorschachs tendency towards paranoid behavior blinds him from seeing reality as it really is. For this reason he acts irrationally, ultimately assuming blaming individuals for situations that may in fact have definite and legitimate reasoning or answers, why he immediately put the blame on those close to The Comedian rather than accepting

Chinese funeral rites have strict guidelines as to where the rites are to be performed, how the rites are performed (ritualbathing of the corpse), the dress of the attendees and the dead, the transfer of material goods on Earth to the dead, acknowledgement of the deceased and the actual burialof the body. Instead of wearing black (like in Western cultures), those who are mourning the deceased in China are seen wearing white clothes, shoes and cloaks that are usually made out of sackcloth or hemp. Although mourning colors differ in different parts of China, white is the universal color of mourning for the Chinese. These mourning clothes are usually ragged, unbleached, unhemmed and white. 5 The corpse must go through a series of cleansings and blessings before it is allowed to be buried. A ritualized bathing of the corpse is required before it goes on to the next step in the rites. In south China the water is not gathered by the family themselves, but rather, bought from a deity of a sacred well. This particular rite is called mai shui or roughly translated, buying water . • 13. Penicillin Vs Antiseptics There are many ways to compare and contrast hand sanitizers and penicillin. Antiseptics and Penicillin which is an antibiotic both have a common intention, which is to kill bacteria. However while both of them are similar and may have a similar foundation which is to kill bacteria and living pathogen, they are also very different in their own ways. To begin, antiseptics such as hand sanitizers which are what have been observed during this lab, are mainly used for external purposes like our skin and external tissue, or any openings that have occurred due to cuts. An example is how we apply hand sanitizer on our hands, we don t take it orally through our mouths. Also the ingredients in antiseptics are different as they are applied on external skin and don t come in contact with any internal body part. The active ingredient in antiseptics is usually a form of alcohol like ethyl alcohol. On the other hand, penicillin is an antibiotic which are medical substances that are taken to destroy and inhibit the bacterial growth inside the human body. They are used to cure the body of infections and diseases that are caused by bacteria inside the body. It is not a preventative measure against bacterial infections, but a treatment to stop the growth of bacteria and provide medical help. • 15. Substitution And Elimination Reaction Lab Report Substitution and Elimination Reactions Substitution reactions replace a functional group with a new group. These reactions compete with elimination reactions in which a group is eliminated and a ПЂ (pi) bond is formed. Substitution reactions occur when a nucleophile is added to an electrophile/substrate. Elimination reactions occur when a base is added to an electrophile/substrate. The electrophile must contain a leaving group to be considered a substrate. Alkyl Halides Alkyl Halides are the common substrate used in substitution and elimination reactions. Alkyl Halides are halogen containing alkane compounds. These compounds are commonly used as the electrophile in substitution reactions. Naming Alkyl Halides is similar to naming alkanes. Halogen substituents are named just like alkane substituents, for example if there is a chlorine attached to an ethane the chlorine substituent will be named using the word chloro . The other halogens are named using the words flouro , bromo , and iodo respectively. These possible substituents are listed alphabetically along with the alkane substituents. When dealing with alkyl halides it is important to note that the carbons attached to the halogens and the carbons attached to those carbons are involved in the reaction process, therefore we designate these carbons with special symbols to differentiate them from the rest of the molecule. The carbon atom that is bonded to the halogen is designated the О± (alpha) carbon. The carbons that are

Artaud seems to prefer the strict rules of Balinese theatre to the relative freedom of European/Occidental theatre. Oriental and Occidental Theatre Here Artaud criticizes Occidental theatre for its dependence on the word and praises Oriental theatre for its independence from it. Again, Oriental theatre is superior because of its use of imagery and its metaphysical nature, whereas Occidental theatre is inferior because it is absorbed in psychology and internal struggles. It is not a matter of suppressing speech in the theatre but of changing its role, and especially of reducing its position, of considering it as something else than a means of conducting human characters to their external ends, since the theatre is concerned only with the way feelings and passions conflict with one another, and man with man, in life (72). According to the American Psychological Association (APA, 2013), DPD is one of the most commonly diagnosed personality disorders. Therefore, evidence suggests that simply being a female appears to make one more likely to be diagnosed with DPD (Loas et al., 2011). Some researchers argue that more women are diagnosed with DPD due to traditional gender stereotypes. These traditional gender stereotypes suggest that men are independent and assertive and women are dependent and passive (Berk Rhodes, 2005). Currently, there is little research investigating the attitudes toward men diagnosed with DPD. Instead, the vast majority of research regarding sex differences in DPD focuses on behavioral manifestations of dependency needs. For example, Loas et al. (2011) found that men with DPD were more likely to engage in spousal abuse. Additionally, Kierski and Blazina (2009) found that, despite equal dependency needs, men are more likely to deny dependency needs in an effort to conform to societal pressures. Perhaps understanding the attitudes toward men diagnosed with DPD would help inform the degree of societal pressure placed on men to conform to traditionally masculine stereotypes (Bohan, 2002). Some researchers suggest that the current personality disorder diagnostic system is biased toward diagnosing women with DPD (Barzega et al., 2001; Disney, 2013; Klonsky et al., 2002). This is likely due to the relationship between DPD diagnostic criteria and traditional gender stereotypes (Berk Rhodes, 2005; Disney, 2013). A diagnosis

Children loose interest very quickly and are easily influenced by other peers, so its very easy for one child to break the circle of concentration. Typically stocks are broken into two general categories: growth stocks and value stocks. Growth stocks are typically considered companies that are expected to increase at rates above the average rate of the market. These investments typically do not pay any form of dividends, preferring to reinvest their earnings back into projects with the hope of helping the company to develop and expand even further. Growth stocks do not immediately produce results; most of the value is derived from the future earnings. In essence, you are investing in what the company will become instead of what the company is now. Value stocks are companies that are or close to full maturity. There is not a lot of room for growth with this stocks. Because of this, these stocks usually pay out dividends to make their investors happy. In essence, you are investing in what the company is now and what it will be in the future. The tendency for most new investors is to go for the growth stocks, because they seem attractive and provide the most potential for returns. These are the stocks that can soar up 100% in a year. While exciting, these stocks are also the ones that can plunge very quickly and cause panic in the market. So what should you be doing? Look for undervalue stocks. Investing in undervalue stocks is the ticket to make great returns year after year. Investing in undervalue

Astronomy a Science, Astrology a Pseudo-Science The word science probably brings many different pictures into your mind, some being: a fat textbook, white lab coats, microscopes, an astronomer looking through a telescope, a naturalist in the rainforest, Einstein s equations scribbled on a board, the launch of the space shuttle, bubbling beakers.... All of those images reflect some aspect of science, but none of them provides a full picture of what science completely is. Science is defined to be the knowledge attained through study or practice, or knowledge covering general truths of the operation of general laws, especially as obtained and tested through scientific methodand concerned with the physical world. According to the TOK book, astronomy is considered a science and astrology a pseudo science. Do you agree? Before I start discussing this statement, we should know what science, pseudo science and astronomy, astrology really is. Science is the pursuit and application of knowledge and understanding of the natural and social world following a systematic methodology based on evidence. pseudo science is a concept that is considered to be science but it does not have enough evidence to go along side with it and prove the concept to be right. Astronomy is a science that studies everything outside of the earth s atmosphere, such as planets, stars, asteroids, galaxies; and the properties and relationships of those celestial bodies. Astronomers base their studies on research and observation. Astrology on the other hand,

Using Deep Structured Learning Or Deep Machine Learning Essay INTRODUCTION Deep Learning (or deep structured learning, or hierarchical learning or deep machine learning) is a branch of Machine Learning which is based on a set of algorithms that attempts to model high level abstractions in data by using a deep graph with multiple processing layers which are composed of multiple non linear and linear transformations. Applying Deep Learning to Building Automation Sensors Sensors such as motion detectors, photocells, CO2 and smoke detectors are used primarily for energy savings and safety, in building automation. However, next generation buildings are intended to be significantly more intelligent, having the capability to analyze space utilization, monitor occupants comfort, and thereby generate business intelligence. Building automation infrastructure that supports such robust features, requires considerably richer information. Since the current sensing solutions are limited in their ability to address this need, a new generation of smart sensors are required which enhances the flexibility, reliability, granularity and accuracy of the data they provide. Data Analytics at the Sensor Node The latest era of Internet of Things (IoT), there arises an opportunity to introduce a new approach to building automation that will decentralize the architecture and push the analytics processing to the sensor unit instead of a central server or cloud. This is commonly referred to as fog computing, or edge computing, and this approach provides real time

An impressive feat, but it came with its own set of challenges. The food subsidy system is broken up in two types: ration cards and subsidized bread. Ration cards allow lower income families to buy an allocated amount of subsidized staple foods (like sugar and cooking oil) once a month. Bread subsidies, on the other hand, are universal. This means anyone in Egypt is entitled to buying cheap baladi (local) bread from government sponsored bakeries every single day. Given this universality, changes in bread prices carry repercussions that are felt by all sectors of the population. For this reason, this section will mainly focus on subsidized bread. They praise these efforts by saying, In the period of rapid growth in world food prices, including wheat prices, Mubarak s regime made heroic (and successful!) efforts to preserve the price of baladi bread at the same level. Accordingly, even in the midst of crisis, any Egyptian could still buy 20 loaves (130 grams each) of subsidized bread a day for 1 [Egyptian] pound (about 20 cents) more than 2 kg of bread! America s cultural identity ultimately reflected onto vampire literature, creating a chain reaction of distinct elements that included secularization, psychoanalysis, and social policy. The cultural influences on vampires first affected their origins and setting; vampires were no longer limited to European countries like the United Kingdom or Romania. In fact, according to Dartmouth, the United States gradually became the vampire capital of the world in the twentieth century. American urbanization dramatically altered lifestyles and towards the 1920s, a majority of the population lived in cities, according to the
  • 53. Wild Card Scenarios Fresh off what was a fairly predictable Wild Card weekend (at least for me), we are on to the Divisional Round. Here is where things begin to get interesting. The Seattle Seahawks will travel to the Georgia Dome and take on the 11 5 Atlanta Falcons. The Houston Texans will head up to hostile territory and take on the heavily favored New England Patriots. The Steelers head to Arrowhead to take on the Chiefs in what is said to be blistering cold temperatures. And what is likely to be the most intriguing matchup of the weekend, the Green Bay Packers head to Dallas as a 4 pt. underdog to take on the Cowboys. The Packers underachieved at best. QB Aaron Rodgers was put on the hot seat. Negative rumors swirled around Rodgers, both personally and professionally which ultimately were excuses for his poor play. Jordy Nelson had just returned from an ACL injury and it took time for him to get his legs back. Injuries continued to plague the team, hitting the running core the hardest. The Packers were all but written off, then in the second half, Rodgers returned to old form. Devonte Adams stepped up in a big way, taking the lead on offense, finishing the season with 997 yds and 12 TD s. The Cowboys had a much different season. Led by rookie Dak Prescott, the Cowboys finished their season with a record of 13 3, not without setting a few records. Dak Prescott has the best completion percentage (67.8), TD INT ratio (23 4), and passer rating (104.9) by any rookie quarterback in NFL history. Rookie phenom Ezekiel Elliot led the NFL with 1,631 rushing yards. Together, this duo has brought the Cowboys back to relevancy all while showcasing their maturity and readiness. This matchup has all the makings to become the most exciting game of the season. According to MSN, Nelson, who injured his ribs in the Wild Card matchup against the Giants is contemplating wearing a Tevlar vest this weekend. Elliot is reassuring Cowboy fans he is ok to play after a minor car accident this
  • 54. Food Allergies In Children Controlling/Monitoring Food Allergies in Children: A Rising Concern A growing concern, the number of food allergens among individuals account for approximately 30,000 anaphylactic reactions as well as 200 deaths per year in the United States (Jackson, 2002). Food allergies are common, but can be fatal if proper action is not implemented or knowledge is not understood beforehand. Food allergy is defined as an adverse health effect arising from a specific immune response that occurs reproducibly on exposure to a specific food, (Gupta, Dyer, Jain, Greenhawt, 2013). In other words, one s body misconstrues the food to be harmful, therefore will respond by producing an allergic reaction. Anaphylaxis is characterized by a severe allergic reaction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A study of practices in Michigan schools found significant needs regarding staff education and policy development around the growing problem of life threatening food allergies (Sheetz et al., 2004). It was found that more than one half of the schools that offered education actually depended on parents of children with food allergies to educate the staff, with no formal plan to provide school wide education (Sheetz et al., 2004). This is why it is extremely important to build a team, consisting of school nurses, pediatricians, staff, parents, teachers, administrators, and anyone else involved and thus leaving it up to the specific team to manage such conditions. This team should be required to attend a forum on the specifics, such as how to administer epinephrine if needed, if a nurse is not available. Having informational meetings, clearing up misconceptions, answering questions, as well as informing everyone of the allergies present in the specific school should allow everyone to be involved and feel comfortable in themselves to be able to administer action if necessary (Food Allergy Research Education,
  • 55. Twelfth Night Research Paper Friends; the people whom we know, trust, and love. Friendship is an important part of all our lives, which is why I chose True Friendship is Unconditional Love as my credo. True friends will always support you, have your back, and pick you up when you are down. They are the people who, no matter the circumstances, will stay with you until the very end. Another reason I decided on this credo is because of my friends . They have always been there for me no matter what, through the ups and the downs, the thick and the thin. Without my friends, I would not be the person I am today; they have definitely changed me for the better. Since friendshipis such a valuable aspect of life, it is also a commonly used theme in literature. Twelfth Night, a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Helmut, a white man, insists on being friends with Mark, a black boy, despite the severe apartheid in South Africa. They encounter many obstacles throughout their friendship, including racist and threatening remarks that were directed towards them. Mark explains, We . . . never play[ed] at the same [court] twice in a row. (Mathabane 207) because Racist remarks were thrown at us, (207) proving that the difference between Mark and Helmut s race resulted in their friendship being criticized and judged. People did not believe it was possible for a white man and a black boy to be friends. Furthermore, laws to reinforce apartheid were also in effect at the time. These laws made Mark and Helmut s friendship a danger to themselves: The more black people saw [Mark and Helmut] together, the more they . . . vowed to deal with [Mark] the same way they dealt with other collaborators of the system: death (208). Despite the constant judgement and death threats, Helmut and Mark believed that race should not be a barrier between their friendship. This confirms my statement from earlier that real friends will stay with you no matter what. True friends fight to stay together even when others are opposed to their friendship and attempt to tear them

The Scarlet Letter by Nathanial Hawthorne and The Coquette; or, The History of Eliza Wharton by Hannah Webster Foster at first glance may seem to be entirely unrelated tales. The Scarlet Letter is the story of Hester Prynne, an adulteress who is forced to raise her daughter on her own and to wear a scarlet A to mark her indignity. The Coquette is a fictionalized account of a socially elite woman, Eliza Wharton, who dies after giving birth to a stillborn, illegitimate child. Although the fate and circumstances of each woman in these stories are on the opposite ends of the spectrum, at the core both comment on ideal womanhood, a woman s sexual freedom, and sin in a patriarchal society. Hester Prynne and Eliza Wharton go against society s
  • 57. Base Jumping Is Becoming Known As One Of The Most Extreme... Base jumping is becoming known as one of the most extreme sports the world knows. To successfully BASE jump one must bound from an exit point , and free fall from very high places. People say it s too dangerous, and should be outlawed completely. On the other hand, people like the late Dean Potter used to successfully jump with his dog in a backpack as he would leap off cliffs falling as much as 3000 feet towards the ground. BASE jumpingis amazing, and isn t for everyone, but it should at the least remain someone s choice to do it or not in my opinion. Its known as BASE jumping, and BASE is an acronym that stands for buildings, antennae, spans, and earth such as cliffs and mountains (Tara L. Allman). These are all places BASE jumpers hurdle from. They go to these places to perform their sport, leaping off into the void and free falling. Before smashing into the ground, they deploy their parachute. There is a high likelihood you will die if you make any mistakes. So you are effectively saving your own life every time you do it. Simple right? Not by a long shot. This sport is a huge undertaking. You start off a student, and only after years learning under a mentor, do you get to wear the invisible badge of BASE Jumper. BASE jumping is widely viewed by the public as dangerous and too risky. In many countries and states of the US, BASE jumping is illegal. In addition, not only is the act of jumping illegal, but BASE jumpers are often trespassing on someone s property to
