The Great Sphinx was a very large structure built in ancient Egypt. It was very important to the
Egyptians and it did many things for them. It is also the one of largest, ancient freestanding

2575 2465. Khafre was a man that had a lot of architectural talent because he built a structure that

in a reclining position, with its paws facing forward, toward east, pointing to the dawn of the star
Regulus in the summer solstice. Regulus is the brightest star in the constellation of Leo, and was
aligned with the Sphinx at about 2300 BC during the summer solstice. The Sphinx is believed to
represent the pharaoh, Khafre. It guards the gates of Giza, where the pyramid of Khafre stands.
The Sphinx was not built brick by brick, like the Great Pyramid of Egypt, but it was carved from a

Emery board method was used and all procedures were followed accordingly. Each group
consisted of 20 members and was then subdivided again into groups of ten. Students took a turn to
be a seaward surveyor and a landward surveyor, a data researcher and a geotechnical engineer. The

The Bright Spot in My Day One morning bright and early, I went to the nursing home near my
home to do a community service project. The plan was for me to meet Ms. Clara Mae who is a
resident there. My expectations for the day were not the best, I dreaded the smell of being in a
nursing home. As I approached room 406, I noticed a faint lemonsmell that floated around the hall.

This lady is a jewel! With that we became friends. She asked about my family and we talked
about hers. She asked about my school, and we talked about where she went. Soon, it was time
for me to go and I could not believe that the time had flown by. Ms. Clara Mae seemed sleepy and
tired and she told me that she normally took a nap before lunch. That was my cue that I must
move on to visit the other residents in the activity/recreation area. The scent of lemon wafted over
to me once again, and I realized that she had an air freshener plug in the wall nearest the window.
Evidently, she did not like the smell of nursing homes either. It suddenly hit me that she could be
me in the future! She had a similar story like me, she liked some of the same things I did, and
she had a great sense of humor. All Ms. Clara Mae needed was someone to listen to her and a
little companionship. I had learned that her family no longer visited her anymore and the only
people that saw her on a routine basis was a group that came from a church once a month. How
sad! I felt connected to her and it crushed me to leave her. She seemed to understand and
reassured me that she knew I was busy and had lots of things to do. As I stood to walk out of the
