Taiga Biome Essay
The taiga is the largest biome in the world and is one of the three main forest biomes. It is also called
the boreal forest. This ecosystem is found in Europe, Asia, and in North America. It stretches across
Alaska, Canada, Scandinavia, and Russia, which means it spreads through the Northern Hemisphere.
The taigas average temperature per year is 32 degree fahrenheit. This biome has short wet summers
and long cold winters. Precipitation is an everyday thing in the taiga. Fires are very common in the
taiga biome. These fires help get rid of the old and sick trees that are no longer needed or necessary.
The trees in the taiga are known as evergreen trees. This means that these trees are green all year long
and never lose their leaves. This is

The Squad Of The 14u Team South Football Team
We had traveled in the minivan for 5 hours, for a group of 13 year old boys this trip felt like eternity.
However, our excitement kept us all jaunting to each other about silly middle school shenanigans, who
can dougie better, and how we were all going to murk this tryout. Johnny Evans, Malik Chatman,
Gavin Rose, Ronnie Fountain, and I were all selected to try out for the 14u Team South football team.
This team would represent all the best players in the southeast and clash them against other regions
best athletes. This would be a 3 day try out. After leaving Orlando, the van had finally reached its
destination. Coach Rose jingled to the car Atlanta is the place to be, with orange peaches and southern
tea, we all stared at Gavin as his face turned as red as a Crayola. We pulled into the lot of the hotel all
participating athletes had been assigned right off of I 75. We all unloaded the van of our luggage
proceeded to the check in, Coach got the keys for room 325 and 326. I was so tired of riding in back
of the van that I did not really care how the room would look as long as I could put my bags down and
fall right into the bed. Malik, Johnny and I entered our room 326 to the right was with a bathroom
sink, a mirror, and shower. On the left, a mini kitchen with a stove, island table, and refrigerator. In
front of us, there were two wooden dressers pinned together with a television on top. Near the
window, there was a small table with a lamp as well as chair in the corner.

Junk Food Should Be Banned In Schools
Long live junk food, a child s best friend who has stuck with them throughout all these years. Schools
are considering to erase these long term companions from a student s educational lives once and for
all. The question we are asking here is whether or not this is going to be a choice that is worth it. Junk
food should not be banned in schools because banning junk food in school cannot guarantee
restrictions on junk food outside of school, cutting out junk food greatly decreases school revenue, and
the availability of healthier foods does not ensure proper intake of calories.
When junk food is banned in school, it does not guarantee a ban everywhere else outside of school. As
Radford states, Whether or not junk food is available to them at school may not have much bearing on
how much junk food they eat (7). This could be due to multiple reasons. Outside of school, junk food
is an inexpensive source that is widely available and any student would have access to them because
of how conveniently located they are. Not only are they conveniently placed, they are also served in
large portions (Reyman 1). If junk food was banned, these outside locations could then serve as
escapes for students from the policies that have been placed. There will also be students who would be
exempt from the policies once they are set in stone students who like to pack their own lunch (Jaonick
and Cass 17). These students still have the chance to pack the unhealthiest foods from home, giving

Heresy In Medieval Witchcraft
For us it is not lawful to introduce any doctrine of our own choosing, neither may we choose some
doctrine which someone else has introduced by his own choice. (Peters, 1980, p. 30). As early as the
second century CE, Christian writers, such as Tertullian (ca. 160 ca. 200 CE), began defining what it
was to be a heretic and what heresy could lead to (Peters, 1980, p. 29). Medieval churchmen believed
there was much to fear from heresy, but the practice of witchcraft was especially troubling, as their
greatest fears of heresy could be summoned by means of magic.
To better understand the Medieval churchmen s plight with witchcraft the subject of heresy must first
be examined. According to St. Isidore of Seville (ca. 570 636), heresy, derived from the Greek word
haeresis meaning choice, was given the name in view of the fact that each heretic, by their own will,
decided to teach and/or believe in heterodoxic manners (Peters, 1980, pp. 47, 49). St. Isidore
continues, stating, These heresies have risen against the Catholic faith and have been condemned by
the apostles, the holy Fathers, or the councils (Peters, 1980, p. 50) Thus, heresy can aptly be defined
as anything deviating specifically from the Catholic faith, not Christianity overall.
During the Medieval period, avid church goers and clergymen had many fears regarding heresy, one
of which was the spread of doubt within the faith. In a time when only churchmen could read and
write, it was their teachings of the

Rhetorical Analysis Of Tears We Cannot Stop By Dyson
Tears. They are almost a uniquely human experience, one that exists alongside only the most human of
emotions: elation and heartbreak. They exist as a sign of utter, almost infantile vulnerability, yet
possess the power to upheave humanity. It s no coincidence that acclaimed author Michael Eric Dyson
chose the name Tears We Cannot Stop. Such a name accurately represents the emotional tidal wave
that is his novel. Throughout the course of his sermon, Dyson works to weave moving personal
narrative with sincere tone to create an emotionally convincing piece. This essay s purpose is to
analyze Dyson s recognition and identification of his audience, his tone used to communicate his
thoughts to that audience, and his overall application of pathos in connecting with that audience. ...

Defining the audience is particularly important when discussing the effectiveness of Dyson s pathos.
Dyson effectively establishes his target audience during the call to worship at the beginning of the
text: I offer this sermon to you, my dear white friends, my beloved comrades of faith and country
(p.7). Dyson s message is, in particular, one for white Christians in America. Thus, the assumptions
Dyson makes toward his audience are a Christian ethic, an awareness of American history and current
events, and a generalized white ethnic upbringing. Dyson has essentially set his demographic, which
allows him to better focus his arguments to suit his target audience. However, now that he has done
this, he also has the responsibility to not misrepresent those to which he is

Personal Narrative On My Converse
Navy blue with silver eyelets, no laces, a white toe cap, and a black racing stripe. What could be so
special about a shoe? To a child, shoes are just something that you sport until your feet bust out of
them, or until you wear holes into them. I was eight years old when my feet stopped growing, when I
got my first pair of converse, and when my shoe obsession began. The first place I took my Converse
was on the third grade trip to Camp Mary Orton. I was nervous about going somewhere new for an
entire week, but my fresh out of the box shoes gave me the confidence to do anything. The muddy
earth no longer daunted me and the idea of climbing a wooden pole named after a diaper company
(the Pamper Pole) did not shake me. The thought of failing to scale a rock wall could not phase the
confidence that my new shoes provided. If the shoes could walk me through the halls of the school,
perfectly matching the plaid of my jumper, then I could handle whatever challenges camp threw at me.
Two years of wear on the already faded blue created a dull black. I forgot about the color they had
once been and began wearing them with everything. At 11, my favorite outfit was a slouchy Hello
Kitty top with black leggings and my distressed blue converse. I wore that outfit when I boarded the

peeling racing stripe makes me feel like I am anyone and everyone that has ever worn these classic
canvas shoes. I am the confident 50s high school basketball star racing down the court and my

The Messiah Of God
Christology is a synthesized word that is made up of the following: Christos and Logos, which
translates into, Christ and Talk or talking; for example, talking about Christ. Christology is a
continuous dissertation on Jesus as the Messiah of God.
However there is an operational and functional aspect and it would include faith, discipline, and
worship; Christology is methodical contemplation on the mystery of the person of Jesus Christ as
views in the divine plan of redemption to humankind. Therefore, it reflects the person, being and the
task and trials of Jesus; and who has been declared by his followers as the Christ of God. Hence, Jesus
Christ s presence is the onset of all Christological thinking.
Yet there are several additional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It should be noted; early Christians were also of Jewish ancestry. There are several qualifiers that must
be observed. First, their experience with the Jesus Christ event was historically pre conditioned. And
secondly, it had to take place in that cultural location, to have proclaimed Him as Christ, Lord, Son of
God, Son of Man. This would also mean He is the one who realizes the hope of Israel and of
humanity, yet seen from the eschatological standpoint of the 1st century Judaism grounded in Hebrew
Scriptures. To see God s saving act active through Christ event in our time, we must repeatedly ask,
the fundamental question: Mk 8:27 29: Who do people say I am; and what do you say that I am?
Author Jurgen Moltmann presents a particular perspective on these above mentioned questions and
angles which are likely drawn from his personal influences. Much of his religious outlook was shaped
by his experience in his early years. The Crucified God was published in German in 1972 when Jurgen
Moltmann was a forty six year old professor of theology at the University of Tübingen. Moltmann
began writing this manuscript directly after World War II; he was no more than twenty years old. It is
critical to note that Moltmann was a prisoner of war. Raised as a secularist, this is to say someone who
believed that religious considerations should be excluded from civil affairs or public education.

Rise Of Carthage Research Paper
After so many battles, such as against the Latins, Etruscans, and the Samnites, Rome was at her
strongest than ever before. The Romans had such great power, that they wanted more than just the
conquering of Italy (Morey, 1901). In the ambition for more, the Romans encountered the city of
Carthage which was a growing city building upon their strength that Rome wished acquire (Morey,
1901). In the following we will take a look at how the city of Carthage began, the power that each city
contained, and how such ambitions led to Rome becoming a great naval power.

The Romans delayed in whether deciding to help out or not, but soon realized that if they didn t,
Carthage would be called and acquire part of the island (Morey, 1901). It was due to their late arrival,
that a Carthaginian garrison had been already admitted in the city and conquered most of the
surrounding cities of the island (Morey, 1901). The Romans, though, achieved the possession of
Messana (Morey, 1901). The king of Syracuse along with the Carthaginians attempted to remove the
Romans out of Sicily (Morey, 1901). But the Romans showed their greater strength at land against
both, the king and the Carthaginians, and which led the king to overturn their alliance in favor of the
Romans (Morey, 1901).
The Romans then knew that in order to win the battle against the Carthaginians, they would need a
stronger navy to fight at sea (Morey, 1901). So the Romans constructed 100 replica vessels of a
Carthaginian vessel that had wrecked in the coast of Italy, within 60 days (Morey, 1901). At the same
time, Roman soldiers were being trained to row the vessels, and train to encounter the Carthaginians

The special committee reported its findings and recommendations to the Board of Directors on
November 4, 2002. In a CMS press release (2002) the board approved the recommendations of the
committee and it¡¦s independent outside counsel. No new information was discovered, and there was
no indication of motives other than to pump up the marketing credentials of the Marketing, Services

effort to manipulate the price of CMS Energy stock or affect energy prices.
In March 2004 the SEC filed civil lawsuits against Preston D. Hopper, and Tamela C. Pallas, for fraud

transactions to simulate robust operations within CMS s marketing and trading subsidiary. Hopper
failed to ensure the disclosure of the true nature of the trades. Hopper sponsored improper accounting

of the round trip trade revenue, Hopper fraudulently failed to disclose the reasons for the reversal. The

School Uniforms And Its Effect On Self Image
Most commonly found in private schools, school uniforms are slowly being adopted by public schools
in the US. In the 2003 2004 school year every one in eight schools required uniforms; in the 2011
2012 school year that number had increased to every one in five schools (ProCon.org). As violence
increased, schools started enforcing uniforms thinking that it would solve the violence. School
uniforms were created in England in the 16th century for students referred to as the charity children
(ProCon.org). In later centuries, high class schools were the most commonly known for requiring their
students to wear uniforms. The first recorded time a public school in the US required uniforms was in
1987, a school in Maryland put out an optional uniform policy (ProCon.org). Uniforms have been
being enforced by private schools for years, but now public schools are trying to enforce them.
Students should not be required to wear uniforms because it refuses students the ability to express
themselves, dress codes are more effective, and uniforms can cause a detrimental effect on self image.
High school is a vital time in a child s life to discover who they are as an individual; expressing
themselves through clothes is part of this process. If a student is required to wear a uniform everyday,
that would create a lack of self expression. The First Amendment states that every human being in the
United States is entitled to express themselves (Anderson). When students are forced to wear

Frank Lloyd Wright s Fallingwater And Wim Delvoye
Visual art and construction can be integrated within one another through different mediums. Frank
Lloyd Wright shows this in the building, Fallingwater, while Wim Delvoye presents it in his piece,

art and construction. Whether it be art in construction or construction in art there is no doubt that the
two have crossed paths. Frank Lloyd Wright is an architect who lets art influence his construction. In
some of his pieces Wright lets the artistic beauty of surroundings and nature influence and be a part of

The Culture And Culture Of South Africa
South African heritage and culture is immensely diverse, and consists of many different groups of
people who each have their own traditions and beliefs. Having such a diversity of people and cultures
is what makes South Africa so unique. In the true sense of the phrase, we are a rainbow nation.
The Portuguese culture and heritage is one that is quite dense and easily found within the mix of all
the other cultures in South Africa. South Africa has approximately three hundred thousand Portuguese
people living in it. Making it the 7th on the list of countries with the most Portuguese people in it
outside of Portugal.
Portuguese is not only a culture, but it is also a language and a nationality. Portuguese people originate
from the country of Portugal in Europe, however, due to Portugal (like many other countries in
Europe) exploring the world and conquering other countries during the 15th 20th centuries, South
Africa has what we call Portuguese South African s living in it. Portuguese people are true blue blood

The Cause Of Global Warming
Human activities is the cause of Global Warming
Global warming is an on going issue that exists and affects the entire globe. It is defined as the
increase in the overall temperature of the Earth s atmosphere. The science behind global warming
explains its occurrence as incoming sun radiation in the form short waves is transmitted to the
atmosphere. Then the Earth s surface absorbs the radiation. Once the radiation is absorbed it is
converted into long wave radiation, which takes about two to three hours; after its conversion the
surface emits long wave radiation back to space. However, some of the long wave radiation gets
reradiated back since it is not able to pass through the atmosphere due to the weakness of the long
waves. Green house gases such as water vapor, carbon dioxide, ozone, and more then absorb the
reradiated radiation causing the Earth to warm, which is known as the green house effect. The intense
warmth of the Earth s surface has lead to global warming. Despite, global warming being a global
issue it is also a controversial issue. Since scientists are unable to come to an agreement upon the real
cause of global warming. The scientific realm is a divided spectrum, where one side such as the
International Panel on Climate Change argues, that cause of global warming is due to anthropogenic
activities, which have caused the significant increase in the concentration of green house gases. On the
other end of the spectrum the Non governmental International

Demonstrative Communication is the process of sending and receiving messages. These messages

communication consists of oral and written messages, where nonverbal communication consist of
facial expressions, body posture, eye contact, and or hand gestures. Non verbal communication entails

or will gently touch the other persons hand or shoulder. * Pros of non verbal communication come in
the form of self expression, such as a business woman wearing a power dress and showing confidence
in every step she takes, thus allowing her to get respect without verbally asking for it. * Cons of non
verbal communication come in the form of lacking complexity. For example a person cannot
communicate the story of a particular day to a friend without using words, unless he/she took the time
to mime every detail. The message would still not be able to be conveyed accurately, for instance the
person trying to explain cannot non verbally that he/she had a chicken salad sandwich and orange

2011). In regards to the sender of a message, this person needs to ensure the message is taken exactly
as intended. In other words if the sender wants to non verbally express a job well done by his or her
employee than the sender should offer a friendly pat on the shoulder, with a soft or confident tone.
This will express a positive non verbal communication. On the other hand if the senders tone is harsh
and the hand gestures are inappropriate the employee will take offense and not feel like he/she did a

Although there are many well defined laws and precedents for how to handle invading a persons
private life, the laws for monitoring private digital life are much more gray. While intercepting and

electronic mail, and it is almost undetectable as well. Great care has to be taken to ensure the safety of

History and Development of Internet Privacy
What is the perception of privacy and anonymity online relies greatly on understanding the history and
development of the issue. From 1967, when the Internet was born, until the mid 1990s, privacy was a
non issue. There was no advertising, no security measures apart from log ins, no spam and, until 1989,
no graphic interfaces, no icons, images, windows, etc.
One of the first cases of a website interfering with its users personal information is the infamous
Prodigy.net. This portal, very popular in the late 1980 s and early 1990 s, was one of the pioneers of

Invictus Individual paper
Invictus , is a powerful movie representing what Nelson Mandela taking the office as the first black
president of South Africa and set to accomplish great things. Nelson Mandela was the founder and
lead of the African National Congress and spent 27 years in prison on charges for sabotage against the
white military and government to end apartheid. The movie starts with his release from prison on
February 11, 1990 greeted by the black population eager to fight while the white population was
expecting the worse from it. The environment factors changed dramatically for Nelson and he found
himself ready to forgive those that imprisoned him and call them comrades. His amazing ... Show

Mandela shows support and consideration to the chief s feelings and takes the time to explain why he
made the decision. Reconciliation starts here... Forgiveness starts here, too. Forgiveness liberates the
soul. It removes fear. This is why it s such a powerful weapon. Please Jason, try. The president appeals
at the very inner soul of the security chief.
To help people reaching to the same goal Mandela saw a rare opportunity in the rugby team. He knew
that blacks spent years to hate the game and the Springbok, the rugby team, since for them it
represented the white supremacy and their boycott hurt them. Mandela himself admits doing just the
same while in prison on the Robben Island. This time he thinks about using Springbok to unite people
and that the team needs to become winners. With one year until World Rugby Cup 1995 to be played
in South Africa, and him just taking office, Mandela doesn t lose time and invites Francois Pienaar, the
Springbok captain, for tea in his office to indirectly letting him know about what achievement is
expecting of him: to win the World Rugby Cup in 1995 that would be hosted by South Africa. You
have a difficult job. Captain of the Springbok...We need to exceed our expectations. said Mandela.
This accomplishment was very challenging since the rugby team s performance was low but president
set up his expectations very high requiring the team to perform accordingly.

Running Header: Milk: the New Weapon of Democracy
During the Cold War, the Soviets were trying to spread communism throughout Europe and Asia by
exalting its achievements, and undermining democracy. Part of their approach was by launching Hate
America propaganda. As the Cold War intensified, the Truman administration launched an aggressive
Campaign of Truth [...] to counter the Soviet Union propaganda machine (Ubah, 2012). The Campaign
of Truth was created to help convince the world that the United States has no purpose of going to war,
except in the defense of freedom. (Vaccaro, 1950) Truman encouraged the media to show the world
that the United States was wholly dedicated to the cause of peace (Vaccaro, ... Show more content on

greater effort of freedom and democracy. The Douglas Aircraft Company tries to soften their image of

American s most likely viewed air raiding planes in a negative way, due to the dropping of the atomic

on America s aid in the war. This ad is very much the opposite of the Hate America ads that the

The Importance Of A Common Bumper Sticker Quote
Being a young woman of this generation, I have come to realize the validity of a common bumper
sticker quote: Well behaved women seldom make history. Despite the fact that there is no verified
initial speaker to this statement, the older I have gotten, the wider my eyes have become and the more
of the world around me, I have seen in its full, vivid colors rather than the simple, crisp black and
white of childhood. In my elementary days, being anything other than well behaved was downright
frightening. The ever bearing fear of disapproval weighed heavy upon my little shoulders, because
frankly, speaking against adults was unforgivable and meant no rewards in the form of sweets or shiny
foil stickers with terrible plays on words. But, I digress, the trueness of the statement solidified itself
the older I got when the reality became clear; women are to be an object, a fixture, a malleable ball of
clay left for shaping at the hands of the man she shadows. However true this may be, this paper, my
last soapbox to preach observations upon, aims to reference: The Wife s Lament, Beowulf, Paradise
Lost, The Flea, and The Poetess s Hasty Resolution to reiterate and further emphasize the use of, shift
in, and development of gender roles. My primary focus resting upon the roles of women in literature
throughout the time periods discussed within the span of the semester. To be in love is to be but a

Appreciation Of A Novel By Barbara Kruger
Appreciation of art is like the appreciation of a novel. One may read a title of a novel and be amazed
and curios but will never appreciate it fully if the novel is not read from cover to cover. For any piece
of art, one needs to learn about the artist, the story behind the piece and the purpose of the piece. In
addition to learning about the work, as a woman, I find myself leaning more towards the appreciation
of the work of women artists who use their talent and skills to express themselves and/or the causes
they stand for. For this assignment I chose the work pieces of Believe +doubts =sanity by Barbara
Kruger, By the light 2013 by Shinique smith and untitled 2002 by ellen Gallagher.
Belief + Doubt is an exhibition of more than 60 selected works from a promised gift of 100 donated
by collectors David Horvitz and Francie Bishop Good to the NSU Art Museum. with Kruger s untitled
(Belief + Doubt = Sanity) being the inspiration for the exhibition. The exhibition highlights artists that
are included in or were inspired by the Pictures Generation. Divided into themes and sub themes
highlighting painting, video, mixed media, sculpture and a particularly strong section of works by
women addressing race, identity, sexuality and generation the exhibition title Belief + Doubt lends
itself to a multitude of interpretations.
The couple are famously known as leading collectors and advocates of art. Francie Bishop Good s

Presidential Democracy
There are two main types of democratic systems in the world today: Parliamentary and Presidential.
More important than any difference is the fact that these two forms of governments are democracies.
This being a fundamental similarity for the two, the people are allowed to vote for their leaders in both
a parliamentary and presidential democracy (Comparision). Most people take part in political life by
way of elections; this is common for both types of democracies. For example, Great Britain, being a
parliament, revolves around two main political parties: Labour and Conservatives. The party with the
greatest representation forms the government. A Prime Minister is then selected from the leading party
and then becomes the head of state (Hauss ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers can be removed from office if it loses the confidence
of the majority party. Basically, if the people of parliament do not like what is going on, then there can
be a vote or ruling to decide whether the Prime Minister needs to be removed from office (Hauss 126).
The President in a presidential system typically has a fixed term lasting four to eight years, due to the
fact that it is more difficult to impeach a president versus a receiving a vote of no confidence
(Carabajal). Furthermore, in a parliament system there is no strict separation of powers because the
ministers are also members of legislature. There are however incredibly strict separation of powers in
a presidential system. For example, in the United States , the President and the secretaries are not
members of Congress (Comparison). There is a relatively low chance for gridlock in a parliamentary
democracy due to the fact that the majority party supports the Prime Minister and so there is
agreement and support on the decisions that are made. Whereas in a presidential democracy there is
and increased chance for gridlock due to the multiple claims of legitimacy between executive and
legislative branches in the government

Kant s Theory Of Space And Time
In Kant s Prolegomena, he states that space and time are pure intuitions. Kant s assimilation of space
and time relates to his idea of contingency and how necessity is not derived from experience. In this
essay I will give the premises for Kant s statement in relation to space and time being pure intuitions
in order to make his argument salient. I will also disambiguate definitions that are involved in the
premise; and information on the basis of Kant s understanding of pure and empirical intuitions
regarding space and time. Then after a concise explanation of his argument, I will object to it by
reconstructing his argument and showing the skepticism of space and time being from pure intuitions.
Finally, I will give a possible response on behalf of Kant that ties his concept of space and time
existing in a form of pure intuitions. The premises in regards to Kant s claim are; (1) If we omit from
the empirical intuitions of bodies and their alternations...everything empirical, belonging to sensation,
space and time still remains. (Prolegomena 10, pg. 25).
(2) The difference between similar and equal things which are not congruent, cannot be made
intelligible by any concept, by only by the relation to the right and left hands, which immediately
refers to intuitions. (Prolegomena 13, pg. 28). The necessary terms to know in order to understand this
particular claim are; Empirical, which mean s derived from experience , and Pure which means not
derived from experience. On

The element of mercury is believed to have been discovered around 1500 BC and was used by
Paleolithic painters to paint the walls of caves in both the countries of Spain and France. It has also

Essay on Two Brands of Nihilism
Two Brands of Nihilism
As philosopher and poet Nietzsche s work is not easily conformable to the traditional schools of
thought within philosophy. However, an unmistakable concern with the role of religion and values
penetrates much of his work.
Contrary to the tradition before him, Nietzsche launches vicious diatribes against Christianity and the
dualistic philosophies he finds essentially life denying. Despite his early tutelage under the influence
of Schopenhauer s philosophy, Nietzsche later philosophy indicates a refusal to cast existence as
embroiled in pessimism but, instead, as that which should be affirmed, even in the face of bad fortune.

Good and evil are not the approbation or prohibition against certain actions, rather, such doctrine
codifies self hatred and begs the rejection of human nature . Christianity goes beyond a denial of just
the flesh and blood of the body to do away with the whole of the world. In
Twilight of the Idols, Nietzsche suggests in several places, that the world is falsified when dictated by
the tenets of dualistic philosophies, with emphasis on Christianity.
How the True World Finally Became Fable, a section in Twilight of the Idols, is subtitled The History
of an Error , for it supposes to give a short rendering of how the true world is lost in the histories of
disfiguring philosophies that posit otherworldly dualistic metaphysics. First, Plato s vision of the
realm of forms. The true world attainable for the sage, the pious, the virtuous man... , a feasible world,
achievable through piety and wisdom.
A world a man may come to know, at least possible for the contemplative and diligent student. In this
early imagining the world is not entirely lost yet, it is however, removed from the concrete world. A
world hardly accessible but by the few who might escape the cave.
The first realization of nihilism is the denial of the sensuous world for the really real. The idea of the
true world removed is then characterized as the
Christian world. The

Summary Of Kelly s Story
1.) After reading Kelly s story I researched different skin infections that may cause a rash on a person.
Four different infections I found were Scabies, Impetigo, also known as Indian Fire, Cellulitis, and
Folliculitis (7). Scabies is a contagious rash caused by the itch mite Sarcoptes scabiei (6). Scabies is a
rash that produces red itchy bumps (6). Impetigo is caused by Staphylococcus and Streptococcus
bacteria (5). Impetigo is extremely contagious and is spread by close contact (5). Cellulitis can be
caused by Staphylococcus and Streptococcus (4). Cellulitis is not contagious but causes a red heated
rash in the area of infection (4). Lastly, Folliculitis was listed as a rash causing infection. Folliculitis is
a skin infection that causes a rash around the hair follicles that look like red pimples (3). Although it
can be caused by certain bacteria, causing damage to the hair follicles can cause this infection (8). The
normal bacteria that causes Folliculitis is Staphylococcus aureus (3).

Pttm s Pathological Determortem Diagnosis
PTTM is a highly fatal, rare complication from metastatic carcinoma. Von Herbay et al. first described
the disease in 1990 after a review of 630 consecutive autopsy cases of carcinoma (8). Of the 21 cases,
gastric carcinoma was the most prevalent. Although less prevalent, malignancies of lung, breast,
prostate, and colon, among others were noted during the study (8). An antermortem diagnosis is
challenging due to the rapidly progressive pulmonary hypertension and right side heart failure.
However, PTTM has pathological, radiological, and clinical characteristics that can help aid an
antermortem diagnosis. In order to assess PTTM s pathological characteristics antermortem, a lung
biopsy is required. A histological assessment from a lung biopsy is the most accurate method of
diagnosis; however, the patients are usually too hypoxic upon discovery to perform a lung biopsy. In
which case, a pathological diagnosis can only be made postmortem. Although, antermortem and
postmortem investigations will inspect for the same determining factors histologically. PTTM is
defined by the activation of fibroceullular intimal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several cases of PTTM have shown distinct radiological imaging characteristics that should be used to
influence a diagnosis. The mediastinal views of a chest CT angiogram should indicate multiple
mediastinal and hilar lymphadenopathies, along with right side heart failure displayed from the
flattening of the interventricular septum (4, 5). Centrilobular nodules and tree in bud images are also
radiological indicators of PTTM (4). Additionally, the chest CT angiogram should not show signs of a
pulmonary embolism, which is a common suspicion during the clinical investigation of PTTM (2, 3).
However, radiological characteristics are not as definitive as pathological aspects and should be
coupled with high suspicion from clinical characteristics

Fmla Effectiveness
Although FMLA is an advancement, the act has numerous gaps. Research shows that because the
purpose of FMLA is to broadly aid all companies equally, the government is not able to have full
control of FMLA and only establishes rules that dictates who eligible employees are (citation).
Therefore, not all workers are able to qualify for this program; one has to be employed for at least 12
months in the same company and work a minimum of 1,250 hours prior to approval (The United
States Department of Labor, 2017).
Specifically, researchers analyzed all the states on how well the government protects company
employees and awards each state with a letter grade that best reflects government efforts in that state.
Consequently, because of the lack ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Businesses try to maximize the employee s time in the company and often only allow the mother to go
on maternity leave until they are not able to work at all due to their pregnancy. For example, in
Alabama, an employee must work until she is disabled as a result of pregnancy and even then, the
organization may require a doctor s verification of disability making it very difficult for mothers to
have time off while pregnant (Employment Law Headquarters, 2012). In way to improve this, the
government implemented tax benefits to individuals that donated some of their sick days (up to 80
hours a year) to other mothers, regardless if they do not live in the same state, to increase their
maternity leave days (HR Daily Advisor, 2016). Precisely, even though the donor can collectively give
80 hours, each recipient can only collect eight hours each. The recipient must be employed for at least
a year and exhaust all their vacation and sick days, as well as provide a certification from their
physician before using donated hours (Georgia Institute of Technology, 2015). Even then, if there a

Much Ado About Nothing Misogyny
Much Ado about Nothing (c. 1598) is often considered as Shakespeare s happiest comedy , as love is
found by the unlikely and good triumphs over the evil trickery of the plays antagonist Don John.
However despite the play s merriment, there is an aspect of melancholia. Arguably Much Ado about
Nothing is a warning of the potential tragedy that can come from miscommunication and deception.
The play has two main plots. One centers around Hero and Claudio s relationship, and highlights
youthful romantic love. This can be evidenced by Shakespeare s use of blank verse, this gives the
words spoken by Hero and Claudio a sense of romance due to the excessive positive imagery and
poetic lyricism, for example: Thronging soft and delicate desires . ... Show more content on

Their relationship draws parallels with another Shakespearean play, perhaps the most tragic of them
all; Romeo and Juliet (c.1597). Hero and Claudio similarly to Romeo and Juliet, met and became
engaged in a matter of days, upon a conflict in the story the principal female stages her death.
However, unlike the well known tragedy, Hero and Claudio resolve their issues and we can presume
lived happily ever after. The likeness of both plays presents the idea that perhaps Much Ado About
Nothing is more tragic than expected. Therefore this would agree with the statement that at times
Shakespearean comedy veers uncomfortably close to tragedy . The wedding scene in Much Ado is one
of the most blatantly tragic scenes in any of his comedies and this is a plot device added to emphasize
the humour and positivity of the ending. For example in Act IV scene I of Much Ado About Nothing,
though this scene is the climactic and tragic peak of the story, it does not label the play as solely
tragic. The contrast of tragedy shows the importance of the comedy Shakespeare commonly added
comic relief to his Tragedies. So, when Claudio rejects Hero in so vile a fashion using phrases like
rotten orange and she hath known the heat of a luxurious bed the play takes on a tragic element and
yet, Shakespeare has introduced this dark moment in a play to

(5) Printing The earliest printing in China was the block printing method in the first Century B.C.,
where the individual sheets of paper were pressed against wooden blocks that had text and illustrations
carved into them. This process could print hundreds and even thousands of copies, this technology
played a significant role in promoting the spread of culture. A block carver named Bi Sheng made
movable types with clay during the period from1004 to 1048. This method each type was carved with
one character and the types could be set independently according to contents of different articles. After
printing, the movable types could be reused and this improved technology is called movable type
printing. (LAN, 2008) (6) Row Planting
The Chinese also invented the way to grow crops by placing them in rows sometime in the 6th century
BC. This allowed the crops to grow faster and stronger. This was not instituted in the western world
for another 2200 years. Master Lu wrote in the Spring and Autumn Annals : If the crops are grown in
rows they will mature rapidly because they will not interfere with each other s growth. The horizontal
rows must be well drawn, the vertical rows made with skill, for if the lines are straight the wind will
pass gently through. This text was compiled around 240 BC. (Stevenh, 2009)

The death penalty was established in the eighteenth century BC, two main reasons the death penalty
was put into place was with the hope of reducing capital crime because of the result being in death and
the believe that criminals who did a crime so bad that qualify for death row did not deserve to live, but
that system is no longer believed to be effective anymore. According to U.S Newswire fifty seven
percent of police chiefs agreed that the death penalty does little to prevent violent crimes because
perpetrators rarely consider the consequences when engaged in violence(2). The death penalty is also
ineffective because ninety percent of offenders can not afford an adequate criminal defence lawyer.
This shows that only ten percent of offenders are getting the right defence against higher punishments
and charges. Some people argue that the death penalty is effective because people who qualify for
death row deserve to die, but many can also argue that the death row violates the constitution by using
inhuman and crucial punishments. People also use the quote An eye for an eye but would anyone
really be left on earth if that was the case? Times are different now then they were back in the

Sexual Components In Angela Carter s The Bloody Chamber
Throughout the literature we have read in this class, several books and short stories have had subtle
sexual components. In Angela Carter s The Bloody Chamber, there are several important themes and
characteristics that help give the reader the ability to understand the actions of both the narrator and
The Marquis, but sex and it s relation to power drives each character s actions and emotions. For the
Marquis, he finds all the power in the relationship by exemplifying sadistic behavior, constantly
mocking and ridiculing the narrator, and ultimately looking to find satisfaction in her pain and
potential death. The narrator parallels the Marquis sadism with masochism, often finding satisfaction
and taking comfort in the pain that he causes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that this is the interpretation of sadomasochism that Angela Carter chose to represent is
important because although the book is set during a time period when feminism was not yet prevalent
in the world, The Bloody Chamber was written after women s suffrage, in 1979. As soon as ten years
after the short story was published several works were also published that went against the Freudian
model of sadomasochism. In Jessica Benjamin s, The Bonds of Love, Benjamin discusses the idea that
women can actually control their own subordination, therefore making the passive partner equally as
dominant as the aggressor, which gets rid of the notion that the dominant partner is always male. In
The Bloody Chamber, we only see the young girl as someone who allows herself to gain no control
over the power dynamic regarding the couple s relationship in general. In fact, the only time we see
the narrator stand up for herself, or even respond to the Marquis comments towards her, is at the very
end of the story when she is stalling her death with the hope that her mother will

  • 2. Taiga Biome Essay The taiga is the largest biome in the world and is one of the three main forest biomes. It is also called the boreal forest. This ecosystem is found in Europe, Asia, and in North America. It stretches across Alaska, Canada, Scandinavia, and Russia, which means it spreads through the Northern Hemisphere. The taigas average temperature per year is 32 degree fahrenheit. This biome has short wet summers and long cold winters. Precipitation is an everyday thing in the taiga. Fires are very common in the taiga biome. These fires help get rid of the old and sick trees that are no longer needed or necessary. The trees in the taiga are known as evergreen trees. This means that these trees are green all year long and never lose their leaves. This is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Squad Of The 14u Team South Football Team We had traveled in the minivan for 5 hours, for a group of 13 year old boys this trip felt like eternity. However, our excitement kept us all jaunting to each other about silly middle school shenanigans, who can dougie better, and how we were all going to murk this tryout. Johnny Evans, Malik Chatman, Gavin Rose, Ronnie Fountain, and I were all selected to try out for the 14u Team South football team. This team would represent all the best players in the southeast and clash them against other regions best athletes. This would be a 3 day try out. After leaving Orlando, the van had finally reached its destination. Coach Rose jingled to the car Atlanta is the place to be, with orange peaches and southern tea, we all stared at Gavin as his face turned as red as a Crayola. We pulled into the lot of the hotel all participating athletes had been assigned right off of I 75. We all unloaded the van of our luggage proceeded to the check in, Coach got the keys for room 325 and 326. I was so tired of riding in back of the van that I did not really care how the room would look as long as I could put my bags down and fall right into the bed. Malik, Johnny and I entered our room 326 to the right was with a bathroom sink, a mirror, and shower. On the left, a mini kitchen with a stove, island table, and refrigerator. In front of us, there were two wooden dressers pinned together with a television on top. Near the window, there was a small table with a lamp as well as chair in the corner. ... • 4. Junk Food Should Be Banned In Schools Long live junk food, a child s best friend who has stuck with them throughout all these years. Schools are considering to erase these long term companions from a student s educational lives once and for all. The question we are asking here is whether or not this is going to be a choice that is worth it. Junk food should not be banned in schools because banning junk food in school cannot guarantee restrictions on junk food outside of school, cutting out junk food greatly decreases school revenue, and the availability of healthier foods does not ensure proper intake of calories. When junk food is banned in school, it does not guarantee a ban everywhere else outside of school. As Radford states, Whether or not junk food is available to them at school may not have much bearing on how much junk food they eat (7). This could be due to multiple reasons. Outside of school, junk food is an inexpensive source that is widely available and any student would have access to them because of how conveniently located they are. Not only are they conveniently placed, they are also served in large portions (Reyman 1). If junk food was banned, these outside locations could then serve as escapes for students from the policies that have been placed. There will also be students who would be exempt from the policies once they are set in stone students who like to pack their own lunch (Jaonick and Cass 17). These students still have the chance to pack the unhealthiest foods from home, giving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Heresy In Medieval Witchcraft For us it is not lawful to introduce any doctrine of our own choosing, neither may we choose some doctrine which someone else has introduced by his own choice. (Peters, 1980, p. 30). As early as the second century CE, Christian writers, such as Tertullian (ca. 160 ca. 200 CE), began defining what it was to be a heretic and what heresy could lead to (Peters, 1980, p. 29). Medieval churchmen believed there was much to fear from heresy, but the practice of witchcraft was especially troubling, as their greatest fears of heresy could be summoned by means of magic. To better understand the Medieval churchmen s plight with witchcraft the subject of heresy must first be examined. According to St. Isidore of Seville (ca. 570 636), heresy, derived from the Greek word haeresis meaning choice, was given the name in view of the fact that each heretic, by their own will, decided to teach and/or believe in heterodoxic manners (Peters, 1980, pp. 47, 49). St. Isidore continues, stating, These heresies have risen against the Catholic faith and have been condemned by the apostles, the holy Fathers, or the councils (Peters, 1980, p. 50) Thus, heresy can aptly be defined as anything deviating specifically from the Catholic faith, not Christianity overall. During the Medieval period, avid church goers and clergymen had many fears regarding heresy, one of which was the spread of doubt within the faith. In a time when only churchmen could read and write, it was their teachings of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Rhetorical Analysis Of Tears We Cannot Stop By Dyson Tears. They are almost a uniquely human experience, one that exists alongside only the most human of emotions: elation and heartbreak. They exist as a sign of utter, almost infantile vulnerability, yet possess the power to upheave humanity. It s no coincidence that acclaimed author Michael Eric Dyson chose the name Tears We Cannot Stop. Such a name accurately represents the emotional tidal wave that is his novel. Throughout the course of his sermon, Dyson works to weave moving personal narrative with sincere tone to create an emotionally convincing piece. This essay s purpose is to analyze Dyson s recognition and identification of his audience, his tone used to communicate his thoughts to that audience, and his overall application of pathos in connecting with that audience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Defining the audience is particularly important when discussing the effectiveness of Dyson s pathos. Dyson effectively establishes his target audience during the call to worship at the beginning of the text: I offer this sermon to you, my dear white friends, my beloved comrades of faith and country (p.7). Dyson s message is, in particular, one for white Christians in America. Thus, the assumptions Dyson makes toward his audience are a Christian ethic, an awareness of American history and current events, and a generalized white ethnic upbringing. Dyson has essentially set his demographic, which allows him to better focus his arguments to suit his target audience. However, now that he has done this, he also has the responsibility to not misrepresent those to which he is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Personal Narrative On My Converse Navy blue with silver eyelets, no laces, a white toe cap, and a black racing stripe. What could be so special about a shoe? To a child, shoes are just something that you sport until your feet bust out of them, or until you wear holes into them. I was eight years old when my feet stopped growing, when I got my first pair of converse, and when my shoe obsession began. The first place I took my Converse was on the third grade trip to Camp Mary Orton. I was nervous about going somewhere new for an entire week, but my fresh out of the box shoes gave me the confidence to do anything. The muddy earth no longer daunted me and the idea of climbing a wooden pole named after a diaper company (the Pamper Pole) did not shake me. The thought of failing to scale a rock wall could not phase the confidence that my new shoes provided. If the shoes could walk me through the halls of the school, perfectly matching the plaid of my jumper, then I could handle whatever challenges camp threw at me. Two years of wear on the already faded blue created a dull black. I forgot about the color they had once been and began wearing them with everything. At 11, my favorite outfit was a slouchy Hello Kitty top with black leggings and my distressed blue converse. I wore that outfit when I boarded the plane to Europe, scared as ... To this day, the sight of a battered toe cap and a peeling racing stripe makes me feel like I am anyone and everyone that has ever worn these classic canvas shoes. • 8. The Messiah Of God Christology is a synthesized word that is made up of the following: Christos and Logos, which translates into, Christ and Talk or talking; for example, talking about Christ. Christology is a continuous dissertation on Jesus as the Messiah of God. However there is an operational and functional aspect and it would include faith, discipline, and worship; Christology is methodical contemplation on the mystery of the person of Jesus Christ as views in the divine plan of redemption to humankind. Therefore, it reflects the person, being and the task and trials of Jesus; and who has been declared by his followers as the Christ of God. Hence, Jesus Christ s presence is the onset of all Christological thinking. Yet there are several additional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It should be noted; early Christians were also of Jewish ancestry. There are several qualifiers that must be observed. First, their experience with the Jesus Christ event was historically pre conditioned. And secondly, it had to take place in that cultural location, to have proclaimed Him as Christ, Lord, Son of God, Son of Man. This would also mean He is the one who realizes the hope of Israel and of humanity, yet seen from the eschatological standpoint of the 1st century Judaism grounded in Hebrew Scriptures. To see God s saving act active through Christ event in our time, we must repeatedly ask, the fundamental question: Mk 8:27 29: Who do people say I am; and what do you say that I am? Author Jurgen Moltmann presents a particular perspective on these above mentioned questions and angles which are likely drawn from his personal influences. Much of his religious outlook was shaped by his experience in his early years. The Crucified God was published in German in 1972 when Jurgen Moltmann was a forty six year old professor of theology at the University of Tübingen. Moltmann began writing this manuscript directly after World War II; he was no more than twenty years old. It is critical to note that Moltmann was a prisoner of war. Raised as a secularist, this is to say someone who believed that religious considerations should be excluded from civil affairs or public education. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Romans then knew that in order to win the battle against the Carthaginians, they would need a stronger navy to fight at sea (Morey, 1901). So the Romans constructed 100 replica vessels of a Carthaginian vessel that had wrecked in the coast of Italy, within 60 days (Morey, 1901). In the 2003 2004 school year every one in eight schools required uniforms; in the 2011 2012 school year that number had increased to every one in five schools (ProCon.org). As violence increased, schools started enforcing uniforms thinking that it would solve the violence. School uniforms were created in England in the 16th century for students referred to as the charity children (ProCon.org). In later centuries, high class schools were the most commonly known for requiring their students to wear uniforms. The first recorded time a public school in the US required uniforms was in 1987, a school in Maryland put out an optional uniform policy (ProCon.org). Uniforms have been being enforced by private schools for years, but now public schools are trying to enforce them. Students should not be required to wear uniforms because it refuses students the ability to express themselves, dress codes are more effective, and uniforms can cause a detrimental effect on self image. High school is a vital time in a child s life to discover who they are as an individual; expressing themselves through clothes is part of this process. If a student is required to wear a uniform everyday, that would create a lack of self expression. • 19. The Cause Of Global Warming Human activities is the cause of Global Warming Global warming is an on going issue that exists and affects the entire globe. It is defined as the increase in the overall temperature of the Earth s atmosphere. The science behind global warming explains its occurrence as incoming sun radiation in the form short waves is transmitted to the atmosphere. Then the Earth s surface absorbs the radiation. Once the radiation is absorbed it is converted into long wave radiation, which takes about two to three hours; after its conversion the surface emits long wave radiation back to space. However, some of the long wave radiation gets reradiated back since it is not able to pass through the atmosphere due to the weakness of the long waves. Green house gases such as water vapor, carbon dioxide, ozone, and more then absorb the reradiated radiation causing the Earth to warm, which is known as the green house effect. The intense warmth of the Earth s surface has lead to global warming. Despite, global warming being a global issue it is also a controversial issue. Since scientists are unable to come to an agreement upon the real cause of global warming. The scientific realm is a divided spectrum, where one side such as the International Panel on Climate Change argues, that cause of global warming is due to anthropogenic activities, which have caused the significant increase in the concentration of green house gases. Additionally, the chest CT angiogram should not show signs of a pulmonary embolism, which is a common suspicion during the clinical investigation of PTTM (2, 3). However, radiological characteristics are not as definitive as pathological aspects and should be coupled with high suspicion from clinical characteristics ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Fmla Effectiveness Although FMLA is an advancement, the act has numerous gaps. Research shows that because the purpose of FMLA is to broadly aid all companies equally, the government is not able to have full control of FMLA and only establishes rules that dictates who eligible employees are (citation). Therefore, not all workers are able to qualify for this program; one has to be employed for at least 12 months in the same company and work a minimum of 1,250 hours prior to approval (The United States Department of Labor, 2017). Specifically, researchers analyzed all the states on how well the government protects company employees and awards each state with a letter grade that best reflects government efforts in that state. Consequently, because of the lack ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Businesses try to maximize the employee s time in the company and often only allow the mother to go on maternity leave until they are not able to work at all due to their pregnancy. For example, in Alabama, an employee must work until she is disabled as a result of pregnancy and even then, the organization may require a doctor s verification of disability making it very difficult for mothers to have time off while pregnant (Employment Law Headquarters, 2012). In way to improve this, the government implemented tax benefits to individuals that donated some of their sick days (up to 80 hours a year) to other mothers, regardless if they do not live in the same state, to increase their maternity leave days (HR Daily Advisor, 2016). Precisely, even though the donor can collectively give 80 hours, each recipient can only collect eight hours each. The recipient must be employed for at least a year and exhaust all their vacation and sick days, as well as provide a certification from their physician before using donated hours (Georgia Institute of Technology, 2015). Even then, if there a disability because of the delivery or pregnancy, the individual is ineligible for the donated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Much Ado About Nothing Misogyny Much Ado about Nothing (c. 1598) is often considered as Shakespeare s happiest comedy , as love is found by the unlikely and good triumphs over the evil trickery of the plays antagonist Don John. However despite the play s merriment, there is an aspect of melancholia. Arguably Much Ado about Nothing is a warning of the potential tragedy that can come from miscommunication and deception. The play has two main plots. One centers around Hero and Claudio s relationship, and highlights youthful romantic love. This can be evidenced by Shakespeare s use of blank verse, this gives the words spoken by Hero and Claudio a sense of romance due to the excessive positive imagery and poetic lyricism, for example: Thronging soft and delicate desires . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their relationship draws parallels with another Shakespearean play, perhaps the most tragic of them all; Romeo and Juliet (c.1597). Hero and Claudio similarly to Romeo and Juliet, met and became engaged in a matter of days, upon a conflict in the story the principal female stages her death. However, unlike the well known tragedy, Hero and Claudio resolve their issues and we can presume lived happily ever after. The likeness of both plays presents the idea that perhaps Much Ado About Nothing is more tragic than expected. Therefore this would agree with the statement that at times Shakespearean comedy veers uncomfortably close to tragedy . The wedding scene in Much Ado is one of the most blatantly tragic scenes in any of his comedies and this is a plot device added to emphasize the humour and positivity of the ending. For example in Act IV scene I of Much Ado About Nothing, though this scene is the climactic and tragic peak of the story, it does not label the play as solely tragic. The contrast of tragedy shows the importance of the comedy Shakespeare commonly added comic relief to his Tragedies. So, when Claudio rejects Hero in so vile a fashion using phrases like rotten orange and she hath known the heat of a luxurious bed the play takes on a tragic element and yet, Shakespeare has introduced this dark moment in a play to ... This process could print hundreds and even thousands of copies, this technology played a significant role in promoting the spread of culture. A block carver named Bi Sheng made movable types with clay during the period from1004 to 1048. This method each type was carved with one character and the types could be set independently according to contents of different articles. After printing, the movable types could be reused and this improved technology is called movable type printing. The death penalty was established in the eighteenth century BC, two main reasons the death penalty was put into place was with the hope of reducing capital crime because of the result being in death and the believe that criminals who did a crime so bad that qualify for death row did not deserve to live, but that system is no longer believed to be effective anymore. According to U.S Newswire fifty seven percent of police chiefs agreed that the death penalty does little to prevent violent crimes because perpetrators rarely consider the consequences when engaged in violence(2). The death penalty is also ineffective because ninety percent of offenders can not afford an adequate criminal defence lawyer. This shows that only ten percent of offenders are getting the right defence against higher punishments and charges. Some people argue that the death penalty is effective because people who qualify for death row deserve to die, but many can also argue that the death row violates the constitution by using inhuman and crucial punishments. • 37. Sexual Components In Angela Carter s The Bloody Chamber Throughout the literature we have read in this class, several books and short stories have had subtle sexual components. In Angela Carter s The Bloody Chamber, there are several important themes and characteristics that help give the reader the ability to understand the actions of both the narrator and The Marquis, but sex and it s relation to power drives each character s actions and emotions. For the Marquis, he finds all the power in the relationship by exemplifying sadistic behavior, constantly mocking and ridiculing the narrator, and ultimately looking to find satisfaction in her pain and potential death. The narrator parallels the Marquis sadism with masochism, often finding satisfaction and taking comfort in the pain that he causes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fact that this is the interpretation of sadomasochism that Angela Carter chose to represent is important because although the book is set during a time period when feminism was not yet prevalent in the world, The Bloody Chamber was written after women s suffrage, in 1979. As soon as ten years after the short story was published several works were also published that went against the Freudian model of sadomasochism. In Jessica Benjamin s, The Bonds of Love, Benjamin discusses the idea that women can actually control their own subordination, therefore making the passive partner equally as dominant as the aggressor, which gets rid of the notion that the dominant partner is always male. In The Bloody Chamber, we only see the young girl as someone who allows herself to gain no control over the power dynamic regarding the couple s relationship in general. In fact, the only time we see the narrator stand up for herself, or even respond to the Marquis comments towards her, is at the very end of the story when she is stalling her death with the hope that her mother will ...
