Relevance Accounting History
The relevance of accounting history as an academic discipline This essay will deal with
accounting history and how relevant it is towards academic disciplines. This will be done by
looking at, what history is. The relevance, and implications of accounting history. How accounting
history led to writing research in a creative and informative way. By looking at pedagogy, policy
and practice, and also the main reasons why accounting history is relevant today. 1.What is history
and historical research? History, in the Oxford dictionary is defined as, the study of past events,
especially in human affairs. Historical research presents a essential opportunity for challenging and
worthwhile study from which we hope to increase our ability to make judgements on a vast, more
informed basis (Zeff, 1982). 2.The contemporary relevance and implications of accounting history:

Relevance of accounting history today: Accounting history makes current issues more
understandable. This is because of the background knowledge known previously. Accounting
history increases the ability to make extensive and more informed judgments because of
background knowledge. Current researchers tend to make assumptions about the past, without
really knowing what took place a few decades ago. One of the main advantages of accounting
history is that it could prevent errors and misrepresentations. Accountants will become aware of
what took place in the past and use that as an advantage to improve the future. From the above it
can be concluded that, when looking at what history is. The implications of accounting history.
How accounting history led to writing research in a creative and informative way, and by looking at
pedagogy, police and practice. Accounting history therefore, is relevant as an academic discipline,
and should be taught more frequently at school and universities. Accounting history is the

A Discussion of Three Messages from the Text of...
The text R. and G. are Dead is a story that has a lot of messages and meaning behind a somewhat
comical text. R and G are two characters from the famous text Hamlet by William Shakespeare.
During the course of the play, it flashes from R and G to parts from the play Hamlet so that really
the people that know the play Hamletare the only ones who really know what is going on. During
the course of the play R. and G. are Dead the characters R and G don t really have a purpose on
anything, including what they do and where they go, they just kind of go with the flow and they
don t really care. During the course of the play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Deadby Tom

Although this experience may sometimes seem funny when it happens to others, in the end it is
one of the worst aspects of life. What does it mean to be alive verses being dead is one of the main
questions throughout the play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead . Throughout the whole play
R and G play with the ideas about death. During the course of the play Rosencrantz even asks
what he thinks it would be like to be dead in a box. The answer is that he would rather be alive
when put in the box with a chance that someone might come along and let him out. While they
are playing this game, the audience is aware that there is a bigger thought behind being in a box,
which in the play they are referring to as a coffin. This box metaphor can also be seen in bigger
terms such as life itself. This metaphor leads the audience to think that they could already be in a
box, and they can t get out. This play makes you question even your own existence when they start
playing games like these. During the course of the play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead by
Tom Stoppard there are many messages portrayed including language, identity, and the question of
life and death. From the beginning of the play, the characters use words that have many different
meanings behind them, and you are never really sure which context

Tramp Satire
Uneven in shape, his derby cap rests upon his head at a point, only identified by his distinct
suspenders and coat. Air lightens his loose jeans, which appear to fix like an inflatable bunch at
his lower legs, where his larger than usual shoes oblige his feet to point outward, making him
waddle when he strolls. Adjusting himself, he conveys a bamboo stick that holds his stance.
Looking as if the once sweet life cruised him by, his clothing is worn out and his eyes dim,
however, his mustache is short and trimmed, and his air is consistently polite. But, his high conduct
is hitched with a freed feeling of opportunity and severance, dislodging him as an outcast dependent
just on his most human impulses. His appearance mirrors this station, giving... Show more content

The question is not whether the nation is wet or dry, Chaplin stated, however whether the nation
is famished or encouraged. His worries are mankind and its reality inside the world where
workers become dehumanized machines working for industry. This is most clearly displayed
when he is made distraught by the dullness of fixing jolts, jumps into a port where his body
moves easily among the precision of riggings inside. His body is twisting to fit each ebb and
flow, he turns into a pinion in the wheels of industry. When he develops again on the
manufacturing plant floor, his frenzy sends him into an offbeat skip, splashing oil in laborers
confronts, curving his wrenches on everything in sight that looks like a jolt. Outside the production

The 1950s Rock N Roll Movement
Introduction
The 1950s rock n roll movement was rooted from a style of music created by black people and
their descendants (Scaruffi, 2005). The lives of Americans were changed, as the older
generation looked down upon this genre and life style, while the young generation fell in love
with it ( America, 2008). Artist of the 1950s played a huge roll in the ideas that influenced every
aspect of it such as legends Buddy Holly and Little Richard. From moral changes to political
changes rock n roll arrived to America ready to make an everlasting impact (Stewart, 2008).
Although the decades have passed, and the times have changed rock n roll holds a legacy that will
forever impact the lives of people as a whole.
Foundations Of Rock n Roll
After World War 2, the world was faced with a bipolar world of the two winners: the USSR and
the US (Scaruffi, 2005). The world was left with international bitterness and resentment and unlike
other wars, a war on ideology. The war changed almost every aspect of life, because ideologies
and morals began to shift and change. The post War era had brought along with it many new
technologies such as the boom of cars, computers and even ... Show more content on

Rock n roll was not a specific genre but it led to many different genres and styles of music to be
created. Since rock n roll was founded on the basis of folk and blues many of the first artists were
black, but were given little credit at the time such as Little Richard, whose song Tutti Frutti was
covered by Pat Boone, and topped higher on music charts ( Music, 2004). The first rock n roll
band was formed (the Comets) by white artist Bill Haley in 1952, and they quickly began to
climb Billboard charts making the first rock n roll song to enter the Billboard charts (Scaruffi,
2005). The Comets showed that rock n roll was an instant hit,and there was a big audience hungry

Impulse Control Disorder Research Paper
Impulse Control Disorders Impulse control disorders are a type of mental disorder. People with
impulse control disorder are unable to control impulses. Impulses are a sudden need to do
something (to act). Impulses are normal, and most of us learn how to control them. People who are
unable to control impulses repeatedly act without planning or considering the consequences. Their
actions may be harmful to people, animals, or property. The three most common impulse control
disorders are: Intermittent explosive disorder (recurrent aggressive behavior). Kleptomania
(stealing). Pyromania (starting fires). Impulse control disorders typically start in the late teenage to
early adult years. They are more common in people with a history of childhood... Show more

In addition to the specific symptoms listed above, the impulsive behavior is not better explained
by another mental health disorder, substance use, or a general medical condition. DIAGNOSIS
Impulse control disorders are diagnosed through an assessment by your health care provider.
Your health care provider will ask questions about your impulsive behavior, moods, and thoughts
as well as past and recent life events. This health care provider will also ask about your medical
history and use of alcohol or drugs, including prescription medications. Certain medical conditions
and the use of certain substances can cause symptoms similar to impulse control disorders. Your
health care provider may refer you to a mental health specialist for further evaluation or treatment.
TREATMENT The following types of treatment are available for impulse control disorders:
Cognitive behavioral therapy Cognitive behavioral therapy is a form of talk therapy. It focuses on
negative beliefs and thoughts related to the impulsive behavior. The goal of cognitive behavioral
therapy is to reduce the negative thoughts and behavior or replace them with healthier thoughts and
behavior. Cognitive behavioral therapy is available on an individual basis or in a group setting.
Group therapy provides support, feedback, and advice from other people facing similar

Gender And Gender Identity
In light of performativity, political transformation via hegemonic cultural practices continues to
advocate for gender parody. Overall, the recent exploration of alterity ethics complements
performativity politics by exploiting the subversive potential of gender identity as well as female
identity. For the oppressed individuals, power should be subverted via political strategy guided by
the consequences and punishment with the objective of maximizing the good in the society. In
other words, performativity politics described by the recent works of Butler takes the form of
action consequentialism. Still, Butler s politics is reversed by the ethics without coming to a
satisfactory position.
Gender Identity

People are under constant duress from the society to conform to the gendered performance
stipulated by the traditional norms and culture. According to Severiens, the philosophical account
of gender identity evolves in the context of interpersonal bonds and enculturalization, and social
realities that shape a person s identity (3). Even so, cultural discourses analysis plays a significant
role in acknowledging the difference that exists between texts; therefore, different modes of
communication influence the interconnection between the text and the cultural meaning the
discourse. Besides, the discourse analysis of culture provides more information on the
communication pattern as well as the generic behavior from the cultural situation and the context of
the social situation. In this case, the intricate weave of cultural psychoanalysis contests the
conception of the previous theme that exists before cultural identities. More radically, the
proponents view of the feminist distinction between gender and sex. Still, the political stakes at the
institutions emerge from the cultural constructs of sex to contribute to the aspect of political identity.
Cultural Discourse of Gendered Performativity
The Michel Foucault theory in the Gender Trouble asserts that gender is a predominantly cultural
agent that operates on the body to constitute the concepts of femininity and masculinity and at the
same time identify homosexuality or

Richard IIi, By William Shakespeare
Children bring out the underlying disposition and wicked intentions we all possess. Richard III, by
William Shakespeare, is a tragic play about the Duke of Gloucester who desires to be the king of
England. He does this through the manipulation and murder of many characters, including Queen
Elizabeth s children, PrinceEdward and the Duke of York. These children emphasize some of the
adult themes in the play and reveals the devastating nature of these themes. Their characteristics and
deaths all contribute to the emphasis of these themes. Critics Marie HГ©lГЁne Bisnaught and
Michel Bito, and Vincent Walsh all agree that the murderof Prince Edward and the Duke of York
was an atrocious deed.
Prince Edward and the Duke of York are innocent, precious, and witty. These traits the children
acquire truly highlights the extent of their deaths. Both these children are well beyond their
years. This clear when the Duke of York says I could have given my uncle s grace a flout, / To
touch his growth nearer than he d touched mine (Act II, Scene IV, Line 24 25). The young duke
cleverly insults his uncle s height and manners essentially saying that Richard is a short,
disrespected man. The children s innocence is also evident through the perspective of their mother
and uncle. In the scene when Richard III greets his nephew, Prince Edward, he says Sweet prince,
the untainted virtue of your years / Hath not yet dived into the world s deceit (Act III, Scene I,
Line 7 8). Prince

The Importance of Class to Voting Behavior Essay
The Importance of Class to Voting Behavior
One of the main factors for voting behaviour is class but how important is it. Conventionally.
Class is seen in the terms of occupation. Those who are in manual jobs are placed in the Working
Class and are expected to vote fro the labour party. Whilst those in non manual jobs are to be found
in the Middle Class and are expected to vote for the Conservatives. The majority of people belong
to the working class sector and therefore ideally if class was the most important factor then Labour
would when every single election. During 1945 and 1970 elections, of course this did not happen
labour was not elected at every election. As they were not elected ... Show more content on

From February 1974 the link slowly and fitfully weakened and since 1983 the proportion has been
under half (44 7%) with a majority voting for either the class enemy or for the non class centre or
nationalists parties. This trend should not be exaggerated, however class still remains the single
most important social factor underlying the vote.
In 1985, the theory of class dealignment came under attack from the Heath thesis which was a
book which claimed that the was no evidence that there had been a fall in working class loyalty
to the labour party but actually the numbers of working class people actually dropped which had
lead to a fall in the number of labour voters which proves that Class is a rather important factor for
voting. Class alignment was still important but the balance of classes was changing. At the heart of
the argument between voting alignment is the definition of Class . Conventional definitions just
said it was manual and non manual workers but now many other things are taken into
consideration. I can see this from what Heath said in 1991 Distinguished according to their degree
of economic security, their authority in the workplace, their prospects of economic advancement
and their sources as well as their level of income. In other words, these days there are factors such

Dynamic schemes are more complex and use system information whereas static schemes are bit
simpler and system informations are not used here. Dynamic schemes get changed whenever the
status of the system gets changed. In our paper we have used dynamic schemes for flexibility. In
our model there is a main controller and balancer which gather and analyze each and every
information. We aimed at the public cloud in this load balancing model because public cloud has
enormous nodes with distributed computing resources present in many different locations. In this
model public cloud is being divided into several cloud partitions and when the load and
environment is very large and complex, these partitions simplify the load balancing. Due to its
main controller the cloud can choose suitable partition for the jobs which are arriving whereas
the balancer for each cloud partition chooses the best load balancing strategy Fig: Everything on

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Analysis
The ovary is a critical organ of the female reproductive and endocrine system. When preforming in
an optimal manner, the ovary functions as a gonad, by producing mature gametes and by
synthesizing and excreting hormones within a set point. It is essential for sexual maturation and
reproduction. When it deviates away from this normal physiology, many serious heath problems
can emerge. A principal example of ovarian abnormal physiology is polycystic ovarian syndrome
(PCOS). Polycystic ovarian syndrome is one of the most prominent endocrinopathies in the world,
affecting anywhere between 5 10% of the female population (Dunaif, 1995). Although this disease
affects so many women, not much is known about the exact origin of it and all of the shortcomings

Normally, each ovary is formed by dense tissue encircled by fibrous connective tissue. Starting at
age of puberty, the ovaries become fixed with around 300,000 follicles, with each one containing an
immature ovum. Through cyclic changes, 1 or 2 of these follicles become mature, releasing an
oocyte, and thus resulting in fertilization or menstruation (Stanfield, 2012, p.646). However, with
polycystic ovarian syndrome these cyclic changes are effected. Polycystic ovarian syndrome is
defined by many symptoms, however, numerous cysts on the ovaries and chronic anovulation from
hormone imbalances, normally characterize it. Chronic anovulation is described as infrequent or
nonexistent ovulation. This symptom is directly correlated with infertility and is one of the largest
identifying factors of polycystic ovarian syndrome. It is a result of nonclassical congenital adrenal
hyperplasia (NC CAH), an autosomal disease. This disorder is caused by a CYP21 (21 hyroxylase)

Finally monitoring costs have to be considered in a company. The majority of theseexpenses are

happens is the blood does not clot normally due to the fact it lacks the sufficient blood clotting

period of time after a wound of cut. Depending on the person with hemophilia so small cuts or
injuries for the most part do not become much of a problem in their day to day lives. In most

The process can be done by infusing prepared factor concentrates and people who have
hemophilia eventually learn how to use these infusions on their own in order to stop their
bleeding episodes and, by doing the infusions regularly this for the most part can even stop most
bleeding episodes from even happening. But it s going to take good medical care from doctors
and nurses who have experience in dealing with people who have the disorder in order to
administer preventive solutions. The disorder of hemophilia is a genetic one which means it is
inherited, and to this day there is still no cure but treatment to live with this disorder. Hemophilia
can and does affect all racial and ethnic groups of people and within those groups it has been found
that majority of those with hemophilia are men. Now being that this is inherited let s look in to the
chromosome theory of inheritance, this theory brings forth the idea that the genes are located on
chromosomes. This line of thought was based on the experiments of Thomas Hunt Morgan using

Anti Opium Movement, Opium War And Their Causes

Final Paper
Anti Opium Movement, Opium War and Their Causes The main theme of 19th century was the
imperialism expansion of western capitalistic industrial nations throughout the whole world. During
this process, the conflicts between occidental imperialism powers and oriental countries never
stopped. The First Opium War, well known as the Opium War, was the war that happened during
September, 1839 to Autumn, 1842, between China and Britain. The war was initiated by the
conflicts between China and Britain on the fact that some British merchants, who worked for the
East India Company, smuggled opium to China and ignored Chinese laws. The mania of opium
smoking shocked the Chinese government and triggered the anti opium movement. Lin Zexu, a
Chinese official known as Commissioner Lin, burned out the confiscated opium at Humen. During
the war, China suffered great loss and ended up with a disastrous fiasco. The result was extremely
humiliating to China and profoundly changed the fate of China: China was compelled to sign a
series of unequal treaties, cede Hong Kong and compensate huge war indemnity. When I viewed
this miserable history of China, a question was created in my mind. Considering the great power
gap between the declining China and the rising Britain, what factors led the Chinese government to
launch the anti opium movement at the expense of triggering the Opium War? My answer is quite
explicit: the

the nations criminal justice system. Over this 200 year period many creative alternatives to
incarceration have been tried, and many at a much lower cost than imprisonment. It wasn t until the
late 1980 s when our criminal justice systems across the country began experiencing a problem with
overcrowding of facilities. This problem forced lawmakers to develop new options for sentencing
criminal offenders. Unlike jail or prisons, which create an expensive cycle of violence and crime,

Some of the conditions may be a requirement for employment, school, or community service hours.
These conditions must be met to satisfy the sanction, if they are not met the offender would be in
violation and sent to jail or prison. Another commonly used alternative is house arrest and
confinement. This sanction restricts an individual to his or her residence for specific periods of
time; in most house arrest programs offenders are allowed to leave their homes only for
employment, medical needs, or mandated assignments such as community service or school. The
emphasis of this program is on confinement, and the supervising officers role is to ensure that the

Identity In John Locke s The Grapes Of Wrath
Seeking identity is an important aspect in the present global society. The interactions of
between different groups of people are characterized by the unique qualities the members of
those groups identify with. These groups are defined by race, class, religion, sex, politics, etc.
Ironically, as a whole, mankind has more similarities than differences: religions typically share
the common core values of love and peace, facial expressions are understood worldwide, and
mankind even has a 90% shared genome. Perhaps our similarities are what drive us to seek
individuality, or some evidence of specialness, and purpose: we seem to have an accepted idea
that If I m different, I must be here for contribution and reason . I find Locke s philosophy

Furthermore, he states there is no evidence to suggest that the same individual spirit may not be
united to different bodies. I find this interesting because this broad assertion depicts a sense of
unity of one soul with all of mankind, throughout time. His suggestion strikes me as somewhat
mystical: if the same soul or man was present in different ages, it sounds like a form of
reincarnation. However, instead of reincarnation as plants or animals, Locke excludes non
human bodies. If this were true, then who is to say our souls are not tied to all times in history,
and therefore all people in history. It reminds me of The Grapes of Wrath, where the unity of
mankind versus religion is holy. His assertion suggests to me an element of creating an on earth
as it is in heaven scenario where unity is correlated with peace. In addition, if one were to
experience all souls in all time, would this not make one God? Locke himself does not suggest
this, and my understanding of what he is trying to convey may be mistaken. Even if his assertion
is true, present violence, etc. is not affected by this supposed degree of unity. Nevertheless, I find
this aspect of Locke s philosophy compelling because I interpreted it as hinting at an extent of

How Did Abraham Lincoln Changed America
There has been many great men and women in America that has been an influence in the United
States of America who strived to make the United States a better country. One of the many people
who has been and continues to be one of the great American influential people is the sixteenth
president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln strove to do his duties to serve America
during his presidency. He served our country during the time of conflict and kept our country from
falling apart during the American Civil War. Also, Lincoln gave his life for what he believed in.
Other people might believe that there are better American war heroes or technological advances in
the United States; I personally believe Abraham Lincoln was one of the greatest because he
changed America for the better through one of the toughest times of war for America, and he put
his strong mind into ending slavery. Abraham Lincoln entered his reign of Presidency during the
time of many chaotic conflicts. By the time Lincoln was inaugurated as 16th U.S. president in

The battle occurred in the state of Pennsylvania during the years of the 1860 s. This battle was a
destructive and atrocious battle. But it was also a turning point for Lincoln and his troops. During
this battle, there were many soldiers from the Union and the Confederate States that were lost. It is
said that, The Confederates had lost 28,063 men at Gettysburg and the Federals 23,049 (Hassler,
Webber). The turning point of this battle, Lincoln made a state of the union address at the end of
the war. This state of the union address was written by Lincoln and known to be the Gettysburg

Literature Review On Women With Disabilities
Women with Disabilities: Literature Review
Do not see my disability as a problem. Recognize that my disability is an attribute. Do not see
my disability as a deficit. It is you who see me as deviant and helpless. Do not try to fix me
because I am not broken (Kunc, 1995). In 1993, a 13 year old girl named Tracy Latimer was
murdered by her father because he believed that he was being merciful to her, due to her having
Cerebral Palsy. Unfortunately, this is not an uncommon occurrence for individuals with
developmental disabilities. In 1995, Norman Kunc was deeply moved by Tracy s story and it
inspired him to write the Credo for Support that dramatically affected the rights of individuals with
disabilities. However, there are still many challenges that these people face. This is especially true
for women. Women with developmental disabilities face inequality and discrimination issues that
can cause lifelong consequences, such as in their ability to find and maintain employment, keep
basic human rights, and prevent various forms of abuse.
Obtaining employment is a right that many believe is foundational to humanity. However, despite
many laws banning discrimination against individuals with disabilities, it does still occur
frequently. Women with disabilities are affected even more so than men with the same disability.
According to Smith (2007), Women with a non severe disability have an employment rate of 68.4%
and men with a non severe disability have an employment rate of

Essay about The Life and Literary Works of Shirley Jackson
Shirley Jackson was born on December 14, 1919 to Leslie and Geraldine Jackson. Her
surroundings were comfortable and friendly. Two years after Shirley was born, her family with her
newborn brother moved from San Francisco to Burlingame, California, about thirty miles away.
According to her mother, Shirley began to compose verse almost as soon as she could write it
(Friedman, 18). As a child, Shirley was interested in sports and literature. In 1930, a year before
she attended Burlingame High School, Shirley began writing poetry and short stories. Jackson
enrolled in the liberal arts program at the University of Rochester in 1934. But after periods of

Not until the year of her death in 1965 twenty five years later was the medal finally awarded to her

In 1940, after their graduation Hyman and Jackson, who had a relationship, were married. While
living in Vermont, Jackson continued to write. One of her earliest times in Vermont later became
material for her first book about the family, Life Among the Savages. Between 1945 and 1947,
Jackson was occupied with her first novel, The Road Through the Wall. But it was in 1948 that her
greatest success was achieved. The publication of the short story, The Lottery , brought fame, as
well as letters from readers all over the country. But more often there were abusive letters from
people who did not understand her motives or what she was trying to do. A year later a book
entitled, The Lottery , was published containing an assortment of short stories including The
Lottery. The critics by that time, had decided that Shirely Jackson was a writer of much talent and
uniqueness. Even though Jackson was raising four children while her husband went to work, she
still found time to write. Sometimes when a story idea would come to her, she would bolt off to
her typewriter. Instead of fighting writing, as other writers do; she found the opposite; that writing
was relaxing.

Why Packet Switched Networks Are Used For Data...
1.Discuss why packet switched networks are used for data communication instead of circuit
switched? Ans: Packet switched systems utilize a customary technique by exchanging each single
packet to the destination address at nonstop interims however the greatest result for every interim
will be the same one, this will include a few different routes or paths . This is one method to ensure
the nature of the methodology by permitting one and only single packet at a solitary interim to the
destination address. In another way it can be seen as moving information in divided little blocks to
the destination address which are again assembled in a exact sequence to produce a message.
Circuit exchanged systems is the methodology of association in the middle of two devoted hubs
permitting full data transfer capacity of the channels to stay joined all through the correspondence n
session. It guarantees a solid association territory that aides in non transformation on the other hand
information spilling control. It is by and large utilized as a part of open exchanged phone system
(PSTN), circuit exchanged information (CSD) and rapid circuit exchanged information (HSCSD),
Optical mesh and Datakit. The methodology of transmitting data between two hubs through a
system is finished by utilizing Packet exchanged and Circuit exchanged, which are noteworthy in
conveying the data to their comparing destinations. On account of circuit exchanged the

Automatic Transmission Essay
ABSTRACT
The transmission in a car which works automatically depending on the vehicle speed and engine
speed is called as automatic transmission while as a manual transmission is the one there is a
manual clutch pedal used while changing gears that allow the driver to change the gears as per
driving needs. In a country like India, automatic transmission gives only a driving pleasure to the
driver in heavy traffic as there is no need of changing gears because of the fact that it lacks a
clutch paddle system which gives complete rest to one leg of the driver. Manual transmission fails
to provide such an added benefit to drivers. But in developing countries, the idea of an automatic
transmission is not wise and applicable to all due to the economic ... Show more content on

For the selection of reverse mode , the driver must come to a complete stop, depress the shift lock
button and select reverse. Severe damage may be caused to the transmission if the car is not made
to come to a complete stop. Most of the modern day automatic transmissions have a safety
mechanism in place, which prevents putting the car in reverse when the vehicle is moving forward.
3.Neutral / No gear (N)
This mode is almost same as in manual cars where it allows the vehicle to coast freely under its
own weight and gain momentum without the motive force from the engine. 4.Drive (D)
This mode of the transmission is to engage the full range of available gear which allows the
vehicle to move forward and accelerate through the range of gears. In this mode the gear changes
automatically as the cars gains speed. The number of gear ratios within the transmission depends
on the model, but initially they ranged from three to four and five speeds gears. Six speed
automatic transmissions are the most common in cars and trucks. However, seven speed
automatics are also being available in some high performance production luxury cars as are eight

Psychological And Psychological Effects Of Advertising And...
Do you ever look around and notice a particular fashion style of those around you? Perhaps, you
ve noticed someone driving an expensive car and wonder to yourself what makes it worth all of
the money spent on it. We live in a consumer driven society in America today where everything
from the outfit you choose to wear to the car you drive is influenced by advertisement. Just how
much does it dictate our perception of life? I will be analyzing the staggering psychological and
societal effects that advertisers have over our culture today. I will be looking at advertisings origins
and showing how it developed to become one of the main contributors to what is considered to be
normal and desirable in American culture today. Advertisers have successfully employed methods
of psychologyto shape the minds of their consumers and construct a world that fattens their pocket
books while leaving the average consumer dumbfounded to the advertisement s effects. My goal is
to educate the consumer about these methods thereby empowering them to see past the façade
and decide for themselves what they need and want from the world.
History of Advertising
To truly understand the present the way advertising negatively affects American society, one must
look at its past. For as long as there has been money, there has been competition to obtain it.
Different methods have been employed in attempts to turn the consumer s attention towards a
product in hopes of getting some of this ever coveted money.

Brazilian Culture Research Paper
I am half Brazilian and half Japanese. My grandmother immigrated to Brazil when she was three
years old. There she met my grandfather, whom was also Japanese, and started her family. I was
born in Brazil in 1989, and I lived there until I was eleven. In 2000, my mother decided to move
to Japan because of its exceeding economy. When I first arrived in Japan, I was in shock! I had
no idea that a world so different from the one I ve known even existed. Brazilians and Japanese

individualism. They all want to be unique in a certain way; no Brazilian wants to be average or just

more Japanese? My answer is: neither. I think that when someone lives at a different country from
their own, it changes them, and they become something else. You still maintain some aspects of
the first country that you lived in, but you also acquire some aspects of the second country. You
don t fully become the second race nor you can go back to be what you were before, leaving you

Power Of The Druids
The Power of the Druids In the Irish religion called druidism, the druids were extremely
powerful, so powerful it seems that they even had to name the religion based upon these men
and women of such high rank. Often called wizards, their powers were virtually limitless.
Ranging from divination to creating potions to chanting spells, the druids were respected and,
most likely, feared. Other than the magical abilities the druids possessed, they were also the
exclusive possessors of whatever learning was then known (Joyce 44), meaning that they
possessed all knowledge. Thus, they had even more power over the people because they were
relied upon for information. Concerning their magic, the druids used it under many different
circumstances and their interference greatly affected the outcome of a story. It is helpful to use
and analyze specific examples of druids in stories to understand the mystical ways they wield their
magic. In the story entitled Lord and Lady of the Wheel: the Careers of Mog Roith and Tlachtga ,
the vastness of a druids power is well represented. Though known as a druid of wisdom and
knowledge (Matthews 189), these are not the druidic traits of Mog Roith developed in the myth.
In the first place, Mog Roith does not simply appear out of thin air or without any purpose, but he
is called upon by King Fiacha of Munster to aid in the battle against Cormac mac Art. The King is
currently on the verge of losing the war and he needs the help of a druid, which

Essay about Hitchcock s Psycho

in the film, Hitchcock used devious techniques to get past the strict censors. Janet Leigh (the

Hitchcock a better filmmaker, as he had to be more creative. This is a good point as if you have a

This technique also worked to distract the censors from scenes he wanted to keep but were
pushing the edge of the censorship rules. He was also willing to sacrifice some scenes to keep
other more important ones. For instance he told the censors he was willing to get rid of the
embrace between Marion and Sam in the first scene if he could keep the shower scene. This
embrace was unacceptable as one of the censorship rules were excessive and lustful kissing,
lustful embracing, suggestive gestures and postures are unacceptable. In the end Hitchcock got
to keep both because on the day of the re shoot of the first scene when they were going to get rid
of the embrace the censors never showed up. Hitchcock also used devious tactics like at one
point the censors said the shower scene was unacceptable so he took it back and pretended to
edit it. He then resubmitted it and the censors approved of the scene. The censors also allowed
the shower scene to pass in the end, as they couldn t decide whether there actually was nudity or
not. Nudity would ve been unacceptable as one of the censorship rules clearly states, Explicit
nudity is unacceptable. This was another good example of Hitchcock s techniques as he made it
seem like you where seeing nudity when you weren t. This scene was very difficult and took 70

Colonial DBQ
Although New England, primarily Massachusetts, and the Chesapeake region, primarily Virginia,
were largely settled by people of English origins, by 1700 these regions had evolved into two
distinct societies. The difference in development occurred for the following three reasons, the
motives of the settlers, the people that settled there and the geography of the respective regions.
One of the most important differences in development for the New England and Chesapeake regions
was the motives of the settlers. The colonists who founded Massachusetts, the Puritans, a reformist
Christian group, largely settled there for religious reasons. The Puritans, led by John Winthrop,
wanted to create a model religious community. The central idea of Puritan Massachusetts is
summarized by John Winthrop when he says We must consider that we shall be as a city upon a

This idea of a pecking order is determined by the abilities present in an organism due to its nature.
Aristotle argued that despite plants, animals and humans all being capable of subsistence and

the needs of those higher in the hierarchy. As part of this ideology he theorised that since humans
have the endowment of conscious reasoning whilst animals are solely reliant upon instincts, human
beings are consequentially superior to non human animals. Aristotle claimed therefore that it
seemed justifiable that the purpose of animals is to serve the needs of humans (Regan and Singer,
1989).
Others share similar thoughts to Aristotle and contend that moral obligations are determined by the
capabilities of an organism. Immanuel Kant developed a highly influential moral theory which
suggested that a being must be autonomous in order for its interests to count in the moral
assessment of actions (Kant, 1956). He also subscribed to the belief that it was the attributes which
human beings possess and animals don t have that rationalises awarding human beings a distinct
moral status while withholding any moral status at all from animals. These principals underpin the

Essay about Saint Haralambos Orthodox Greek Church
I attended a mass at Saint Haralambos Orthodox Greek Church. The church is located in Niles
which is a suburb of Chicago on Caldwell Street in between Touhy and Howard Street. The mass I
went to was on the Sunday of Orthodox which is known as the first Sunday of Lent where they
honor the icons. The most important foundations that are highlighted in Greek Orthodoxy are the
Bible and Holy Traditions that have been passed down ( Greek Orthodox Church). The Greek
Orthodox Churchbelieves that the bible is motivated by God. Some important dogmas of the church
include things such as the Holy Trinity, Jesus, the role that Virgin Mary had, and honoring the
icons. The holy sacraments are what lead Greek Orthodox believers that they are reaching... Show

On the rotating table there were open books and the men would turn the table and without any
hesitation continued to sing. Around 9:30 is when the church began to fill up and that is when
the Priest and two Bishops came out. The Priest wore his stole, which is like a long scarf,
around his neck and hanging to the floor on either side of him. The Deacons wore their stole
vestments across their body diagonally. There was also a group of 4 boys that helped on the Alter
whom also wore robes and they would enter and exit through the Angel Doors also known as
Deacon s Doors. Each time they went through the doors they kissed the icon on the door. There
were times when the church would stand and times when everyone in the church would sit and
these motions were all dictated by the Priest that made gestures to the crowd.
The Priest was the leader in charge and everybody else worked around him. The service looked
organized because everyone knew where they were supposed to be at a given time. During the
service, the deacons would go around and swing the censer which was burning incense. The Altar
boys would do things like hold the book as either the priest or one of the deacons read from it.
They also carried candles at specific times such as when the deacon walked around and showed the
Gospel.
At the beginning of the mass the priest spoke to the children casually and asked them questions
such as what was so special about today. Children answered that

The Emotional And Physical Burdens During The Vietnam War
Jimmy Cross: the Emotional and Physical Burdens in the Vietnam War
War has fascinated since the beginning of time for what they reveal about the human condition in
its worst squalor as in its greatness. Maybe Vietnam is best seen through a shattered helicopter
windshield. Chickenhawk is one bloody, painfully honest, and courageous book , recognizes Martin
Cruz Smith. Chickenhawk is Robert Mason s narrative of personal experience which deals
chronologically with his training in Vietnam. Through this description of war, Mason distinguishes
the physical part of war and the psychological phase. He also demonstrates that the expressive
aspect controls the physical. Consequently, this indication has remained intact. Tim O Brien in his
fictional story The Things They Carried, voices the idea that the psychological burdens overshadow
the physical pain that the soldiers must carry: They carried all the emotional baggage of men who
might die. Grief, terror, love, longing these were intangibles, but the intangibles had their own mass
and specific gravity, they had tangible weight (O Brien 926). O Brien claims that horror, longing,
responsibility, and uncertainty that the soldiers experience outweigh the physical agony that they
must resist to survive, loads that are lightened only a little by the willing to return home.
The weight of mental burden that probably weighs the most on the hearts of the men is fear. In the
forest of Vietnam, young soldiers are forced to carry

My First Surfboard Research Paper
How to choose my first surfboard? A common misconception, when you acquire your first board,
you choose a smaller than indicated, with the nose (tip) too much sharp board because we
bought second hand to someone who already knows surfing or because they are the more they
resemble those worn by the pros in surfing videos!!! This is a problem that greatly delay our
learning in the surf, sport, and in itself complicated, and that can make us desist at the first
change. The problem with these boards do not provide us with two essential aspect, you have to
have a board when we are starting to surf, the volume and width. A board with lots of volume
and width give us two very important things: sculling and stability, if we paddle with a board with
insufficient volume for our weight and our level we will be almost impossible to catch the wave,
or we will take too late, hampering subsequent steps. here we present the different types of
surfboards that we can find:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

What does it mean to be alive verses being dead is one of the main questions throughout the play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead . Throughout the whole play R and G play with the ideas about death. During the course of the play Rosencrantz even asks what he thinks it would be like to be dead in a box. The answer is that he would rather be alive when put in the box with a chance that someone might come along and let him out. While they are playing this game, the audience is aware that there is a bigger thought behind being in a box, which in the play they are referring to as a coffin. This box metaphor can also be seen in bigger terms such as life itself. This metaphor leads the audience to think that they could already be in a box, and they can t get out. Richard III, by William Shakespeare, is a tragic play about the Duke of Gloucester who desires to be the king of England. He does this through the manipulation and murder of many characters, including Queen Elizabeth s children, PrinceEdward and the Duke of York. These children emphasize some of the adult themes in the play and reveals the devastating nature of these themes. Their characteristics and deaths all contribute to the emphasis of these themes. Critics Marie HГ©lГЁne Bisnaught and Michel Bito, and Vincent Walsh all agree that the murderof Prince Edward and the Duke of York was an atrocious deed. Prince Edward and the Duke of York are innocent, precious, and witty. These traits the children acquire truly highlights the extent of their deaths. Both these children are well beyond their years. This clear when the Duke of York says I could have given my uncle s grace a flout, / To touch his growth nearer than he d touched mine (Act II, Scene IV, Line 24 25). The young duke cleverly insults his uncle s height and manners essentially saying that Richard is a short, disrespected man. During this process, the conflicts between occidental imperialism powers and oriental countries never stopped. The First Opium War, well known as the Opium War, was the war that happened during September, 1839 to Autumn, 1842, between China and Britain. The war was initiated by the conflicts between China and Britain on the fact that some British merchants, who worked for the East India Company, smuggled opium to China and ignored Chinese laws. The mania of opium smoking shocked the Chinese government and triggered the anti opium movement. Lin Zexu, a Chinese official known as Commissioner Lin, burned out the confiscated opium at Humen. During the war, China suffered great loss and ended up with a disastrous fiasco. The result was extremely humiliating to China and profoundly changed the fate of China: China was compelled to sign a series of unequal treaties, cede Hong Kong and compensate huge war indemnity. When I viewed this miserable history of China, a question was created in my mind. Considering the great power gap between the declining China and the rising Britain, what factors led the Chinese government to launch the anti opium movement at the expense of triggering the Opium War? • 23. Essay about The Life and Literary Works of Shirley Jackson Shirley Jackson was born on December 14, 1919 to Leslie and Geraldine Jackson. Her surroundings were comfortable and friendly. Two years after Shirley was born, her family with her newborn brother moved from San Francisco to Burlingame, California, about thirty miles away. According to her mother, Shirley began to compose verse almost as soon as she could write it (Friedman, 18). As a child, Shirley was interested in sports and literature. In 1930, a year before she attended Burlingame High School, Shirley began writing poetry and short stories. Jackson enrolled in the liberal arts program at the University of Rochester in 1934. Ans: Packet switched systems utilize a customary technique by exchanging each single packet to the destination address at nonstop interims however the greatest result for every interim will be the same one, this will include a few different routes or paths . This is one method to ensure the nature of the methodology by permitting one and only single packet at a solitary interim to the destination address. Automatic Transmission Essay ABSTRACT The transmission in a car which works automatically depending on the vehicle speed and engine speed is called as automatic transmission while as a manual transmission is the one there is a manual clutch pedal used while changing gears that allow the driver to change the gears as per driving needs. In a country like India, automatic transmission gives only a driving pleasure to the driver in heavy traffic as there is no need of changing gears because of the fact that it lacks a clutch paddle system which gives complete rest to one leg of the driver. We live in a consumer driven society in America today where everything from the outfit you choose to wear to the car you drive is influenced by advertisement. Just how much does it dictate our perception of life? I will be analyzing the staggering psychological and societal effects that advertisers have over our culture today. I will be looking at advertisings origins and showing how it developed to become one of the main contributors to what is considered to be normal and desirable in American culture today. Advertisers have successfully employed methods of psychologyto shape the minds of their consumers and construct a world that fattens their pocket books while leaving the average consumer dumbfounded to the advertisement s effects. My goal is to educate the consumer about these methods thereby empowering them to see past the faГ§ade and decide for themselves what they need and want from the world. • 29. Power Of The Druids The Power of the Druids In the Irish religion called druidism, the druids were extremely powerful, so powerful it seems that they even had to name the religion based upon these men and women of such high rank. Often called wizards, their powers were virtually limitless. Ranging from divination to creating potions to chanting spells, the druids were respected and, most likely, feared. Other than the magical abilities the druids possessed, they were also the exclusive possessors of whatever learning was then known (Joyce 44), meaning that they possessed all knowledge. Thus, they had even more power over the people because they were relied upon for information. Concerning their magic, the druids used it under many different circumstances and their interference greatly affected the outcome of a story. It is helpful to use and analyze specific examples of druids in stories to understand the mystical ways they wield their magic. In the story entitled Lord and Lady of the Wheel: the Careers of Mog Roith and Tlachtga , the vastness of a druids power is well represented. Though known as a druid of wisdom and knowledge (Matthews 189), these are not the druidic traits of Mog Roith developed in the myth. This idea of a pecking order is determined by the abilities present in an organism due to its nature. Aristotle argued that despite plants, animals and humans all being capable of subsistence and flourishing, only humans and animals have the capacity for cognizance. Aristotle therefore reasoned that plants are at the bottom of the pecking order and therefore there purpose is to serve the needs of those higher in the hierarchy. As part of this ideology he theorised that since humans have the endowment of conscious reasoning whilst animals are solely reliant upon instincts, human beings are consequentially superior to non human animals. Aristotle claimed therefore that it seemed justifiable that the purpose of animals is to serve the needs of humans (Regan and Singer, 1989). Others share similar thoughts to Aristotle and contend that moral obligations are determined by the capabilities of an organism. Immanuel Kant developed a highly influential moral theory which suggested that a being must be autonomous in order for its interests to count in the moral assessment of actions (Kant, 1956).
