Lilies of the Field
Lilies of The Field is a book written by William Barrett. Mr. Ralph Nelson, a producer, was introduced
to this book by his agent Fred Ingles. Ralph Nelson was so intrigued by this story that he wanted to
put it on film. Finally after much negotiation it was brought to the silver screen in 1963 by Mr. Ralph
Nelson with a very low budget. With determination and tenacity Mr. Nelson achieved his dream. The
entire film was shot in fourteen days! Incredibly, the picture was nominated for four Academy Awards,
including Best Picture. Additionally, Lilies of the Field achieved motion picture history as Sidney
Poitier was awarded the Best Actor Oscar, marking the first time in history an Academy Award was
awarded to a black man. Choosing this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout all of the negotiations, there is an underlying spiritual undertone which drives the
negotiation on both sides. There are ethical issues and spiritual issues which motivate the outcome of
each negotiated battle. They both have needs and wants, and it becomes a battle which often may be
directed by the notion of God himself. During the first negotiated moment the process standard is
clear, Mother Maria is the dominate negotiator, she is strong, forthright and determined. She easily
overpowers Mr. Schmidt as she refers to him, into staying and fixing their roof. Mr. Smith gives in and
accepts her offer because he is in need of gas money. His thoughts and needs are simple; he wants gas
money so that he can be on his way. Mr. Smith considered her deal as a win win for himself. He
realizes that his needs will be considered therefore, he assumes he will benefit from this agreement.
Mother Maria, on the other hand, needs Mr. Smith to stay on longer she wants him to build a church
chapel. Mr. Smith agreed to fix the roof for monetary compensation. Mother Maria agreed that he
would be compensated after the work is done. Unfortunately, Mother Maria withheld information; she
didn t have any money to pay him, and she knew that. Ethics played a large role in my analysis of
Mother Marias tactics. Of course, she may have thought that she was doing the work of God;
therefore, ethics was a non issue. However in negotiations ethic is very important.

Student Diversity At Our School
When I went on stage during our weekly assembly and announced the start of affinity groups at our
school, I was oblivious to the reaction of the hundreds of students in the audience. I was focused on
speaking clearly and getting through my short speech, excited by what I was announcing. I didn t
know that the few sentences I read off a piece of paper would change my perception of my school, my
friends, and myself. Almost as soon as I got out of the assembly, before I even got to my next class, I
began hearing people criticizing affinity groups. Many people were saying that this was segregating
students, that we were being reverse racists , that there was no need for the groups or any discussions
about race, that SDLC (the diversity club I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only people who had had any experience with these groups were the people who had attended the
SDLC conference, where we participated in our respective affinity groups. Soon after we announced
the start of the groups, other students confronted me about the groups. Many people had an almost
visceral reaction against the concept of the groups, having been taught for so long that it is wrong to
single out people for their race. I understand why it was hard for people to acknowledge the need for
these groups, as it meant acknowledging that our whole system had flaws; that there was still racism
and prejudice within our community. This is not something people were comfortable discussing. My
school s motto is Excellence and Honor and many students are incredibly smart and high achieving.
We pride ourselves not just on our academic strength but on our honor code and ethical behavior. This
made people particularly hesitant to pop the bubble of excellence and perfection by discussing things
like racism. I d like to think that I am naturally an open minded and accepting person, but perhaps if I
hadn t been to the SDLC conference and participated in the affinity groups there, I too would have
been skeptical of the program. The introduction of something so new and unfamiliar was

Blockbuster History Films Essay
History films have often been criticised by academics and journalists as inaccurate depictions of the
past. Yet there is no denying the fact that blockbuster history films are increasingly influential in
shaping our understanding of historical people and events thanks to the accessibility of the medium.
Producers of these films often take liberties with facts to tell a more dramatic, engaging and
entertaining story. They have a basis in truth but are greatly influenced by the writers and directors
desire to envelop the audience in the story and to entertain. They focus the visual and auditory senses
of the viewer on the subject being studied creating a stimulating and forceful impact on the viewer,
therefore engaging their interest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Historically, Martin is loosely tied to the Continental Army Officer Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox ,
along with four other historical figures. Francis Marion was notoriously known for his use of guerrilla
tactics against British troops in South Carolina, something which is presented historically accurate in
the film. The Patriot has inspired a new resurgence in research into the American Revolution; raising
the public awareness of what has become an almost mythical war, and creates an opportunity for
teachers and students to gain a deeper understanding of the era. In some aspects, director Roland
Emmerich historically replicated events accurately. The film also accurately portrays why the
American Revolution started within the opening sequence of the film; that being the revolt against
british taxation without any American representation. The American Revolution came about,
fundamentally, because by 1763 the English speaking communities on the far side of the Atlantic had
matured to an extent that their interests and goals were distinct from those of the ruling classes in the
mother country. However, despite the historical accuracies, the film depicts various inaccurate
characteristics such as some states offering freedom to African Americans serving in the war for a
period of three years. The film suggests that the War of Independence was a liberating experience for
African Americans and also that the field

Nuclear Power in Australia’s Energy Future Essays
Since its discovery in the late 19th century, nuclear energy has been used in a diversity of areas such
as atomic bombs, medicine, reducing pollution and food irradiation (Gupta, 2012). However, one of
the biggest outcomes since this discovery is nuclear energy generation. This subject is largely
controversial as it has many pros and cons. It is considered to be a more eco friendly alternative source
of electricity, as it emits less carbon emissions than coal fired power stations, for example. Yet there
still an environmental risk provided by the radio active waste and its inability to be disposed of for
100,000 years (Phillips, 2012). Today in Australia there are no active nuclear power plants but that is
predicted to change in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Professor Per Peterson from the Department of Nuclear Engineering says, It s difficult for me to see
how we can transition away from fossil fuels and not use significant amounts of nuclear energy
(Phillips, 2012). Many argue that renewable sources of energy such as solar and wind should be
implemented instead of nuclear energy as they too produce no air pollution. However, modern society
requires a reliable base load of electricity which renewables are not equipped to provide. In Australia
there are limited sources that could potentially supply a suitable base load . They include coal and gas
(which produce CO2 emissions) geothermal, hydro (which is limited due to the lack of water),
developing technology and nuclear energy (Krieg, 2014). Renewable sources of energy also prove to
be a problem as they are too fickle to provide base load power to a nation, as they depend on
intermittent things such as weather and seasons, whereas nuclear power is available constantly whilst
being a cleaner source of power.
An example of the environmental success nuclear energy has provided is France in the 1970s and
1980s. The country switched from using fossil fuels and instead used nuclear energy to supply 78% of
its electricity (see figure 3). This in turn lowered the country s greenhouse emissions by approximately
2% each year since. No accidents have ever occurred at any of France s power plants (Biello, 2013).

Narcissism In The Peter
In addition to the fact that Peter could not enjoy domestic happiness, he is also unable to form lasting,
loving relationships with any human being. This could be explained by Peter s heartlessness that is
attached to forgetfulness and narcissism. Firstly, his narcissism lies in the fact that he does not truly
care about anyone except himself. Consequently, Peter never noticed how short Wendy s dress become
at the end of the first year because he had so much about himself and even when he came again after
many years he at first didn t notice a difference, for he was thinking chiefly of himself . Secondly, it is
a known fact that memories have a very strong impact on life in general; they are a powerful source of
emotions, also remembering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I personally think that writer wanted to emphasis the importance of growing up but at the same time
remain a little child inside and it is totally different from just remaining a child and rejecting the
adulthood as Peter does. For example, there was very childish deed when James Hook was doomed to
death and invited Peter with a gesture to use his foot . Even though Capitan was dying he was calm
and almost happy because of Peter s bad forms . Likewise, Mr. Darling, as the writer pointed out,
might have passed for a boy again if he had been able to take his baldness off . Also, the fact that he
ceased to be sensitive to the opinion of neighbours , nearly lived in the kennel as well as medicine
accident displayed his childish behaviour. However, exactly this situation made him feel gratifying
and he became sweeter . Lastly, Wendy herself is a direct proof that there is nothing terrible adulthood,
conversely she was one of the kind that likes to grow up . Although something inside her was crying
Woman, woman, let go of me , it was just a quick impulse, as a matter of fact, she was simply
nostalgic about dear old days why (shy) could fly . All these cases illustrate that it is no necessity in
perpetual youth because adults could be also happy if there is a child living in their

Five Stages of Grief
Grief is an emotion that we have which is very complex and often misunderstood. Unfortunately, grief
is something that we all will experience in our lives at one time or another. We will all experience loss
in our lives. The stages of grief are the same whether it be through the death of a loved one, divorce,
or some other loss. There are five stages of grief. It is said that if we get stuck in one of the stages, the
process of grieving is not complete, and cannot be complete. This means that a person will not
complete the entire healing process when there is a loss in their life. A person must go through all five
stages of grief to be well again, and to fully heal. Not everyone goes through the stages at the same
time. It is different for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These plans are now gone after a loss. We feel an incredible lack of control, and we may even feel
numb. Perhaps feelings of suicide may overcome an individual. I obviously feel that family and
friends need to be with the person that has experienced a loss, but in this stage more than any of the
other stages family and friends must be close. There have been many cases where someone has
experienced a loss, and then that person ends up taking their own life. This is the most tragic thing that
I can think of. Now we have two horrible losses to deal with, and I sure don t think that this helps
anyone in any way. Depression is normal throughout a loss, but not when it is taken to the level of
suicide. I think that if enough family and friends are always available to help the person most dealing
with the loss then this sort of thing can be avoided. The fifth and final stage of grief is acceptance. It
must be noted that there is a difference between resignation and acceptance. A person must accept the
loss, not just try to bear it quietly. There must be realization that the person is gone when they die.
People must realize that it is not their fault, and that their loved one did not leave them on purpose. It
is said that even in cases of suicide often the deceased person was not in their right frame of mind.
Acceptance must also occur when going through a divorce. There must be realization that it takes two

Persuasive Essay On The Seaworld
SeaWorld has been a well loved and renowned place to the USA and the families in it for over 53
years. The world famous entertainment park is well known for its wide variety of oceanic animals, and
of course, the part that brings them the most fame: their killer whale shows. Because killer whales are
so hard to find in the ocean, and going out on a whale watching boat is usually quite expensive, many
people have ended up opting for the choice of going to SeaWorld to see these animals. These shows
are considered to be spectacular to some audiences, and an abusive nightmare to others. Despite the
fact that many people love SeaWorld and consider it to be a fun and family friendly place, the person
with educated knowledge about what really goes on in this place could never see it the same way
again, and should want something to be done about it. SeaWorld has caused controversial problems to
animal lovers, the people who work there, and of course the killer whales themselves. SeaWorld
should be talked about more in schools, educating more young people in hopes that one day there is
enough people to take a stand and get this place to stop keeping killer whales captive.
In the truth revealing documentary Blackfish , the film reveals what these killer whales in
entertainment parks such as SeaWorld go through, along with the trainers who work with them. The
documentary shows clips and pictures of the killer whales mauling the trainers, and whales fighting
each other resulting in

The Importance Of The First Earthquake In Canada
Currently, the prediction of the Big One is causing a lot of disturbance and fear among people who
lived along the coastline of British Columbia. The Big One stands for a Cascadia Megathrust
earthquake with magnitude around 9 and it has at least twelve percent probability of hitting Vancouver
within the next fifty years ( ). The validity of this prediction has been questioned by many, however,
scientific explanation has proven that the Big One will happen in the future sooner or later. British
Columbia has the highest earthquake risk in Canada; several thousand small earthquakes are recorded
in B.C. every year. Therefore, the Big One is going to happen, and it will cause different scales of
damage such as geological and economical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recently, District of North Vancouver has released the results of a detailed five year study that models
a shallow 7.3 magnitude earthquake, with epicentre in the Strait of Georgia, risk in the municipality.
Although this might not be the worst case scenario,it still provides useful information in terms of
determining the vulnerability of North Vancouver facing an earthquake. The bright side of the
evaluation is that majority of people live in wood frame houses, which are inherently better able to
withstand earthquake damage and most are built on stable, solid ground. That would be especially
important if an earthquake struck at night, when most people are home. The dark side is that areas
likely to be most impacted by ground shaking and soil failure in an earthquake, especially buildings in
several low lying waterfront areas would likely be topple as sandy soils were subject to liquefaction
just like the below figure has shown where the red parts indicate areas near the shore or the waterfront
is facing structural failure and danger of collapse. Looking to the upper regions, it is shown in this
scenario that these areas would receive no significant structural damage when experienced a 7.3
magnitude earthquake. In general, North Vancouver is less dangerous under the condition

The Disregard Of Human Life
The Disregard for Human Life Present in Wartime In Paul Rusesabagnia s, An Ordinary Man: An
Autobiography, he tells his story of working in a hotel and turning this hotel into a refuge for over a
thousand men, women, and children. He turned the hotel into a refuge to provide safety for targeted
groups during an ethnic cleansing. Rusesabagnia shows his view son genocide during war, or the
disregard for human life, by stating: A sad truth of human nature is that it is hard to care for people
when they are abstractions, hard to care when it is not you or somebody close to you. Unless the world
community can stop finding ways to dither in the face of this monstrous threat to humanity those
words Never Again will persist in being one of the most abused phrases in the English language and
one of the greatest lies of our time. As he possibly implies by stating this, this quote conveys that war
poses a disregard for human life through differential belief systems concerning topics such as, racial,
political, and religious groups; and, this can be seen in literature relating to wars of all times. Although
wars are all fought for reasons, they all share a common theme of the disregard for human life. This
common theme is experienced through events like genocide or ethnic cleansings, and illustrate the
extent that men will go to in order to persecute others according to their beliefs. Through pictures from
major events in World War II, the vast disregard for life is shown by

best examples of achieving this goal. The company financial history clearly tells that story. Just last

links together all the key components of the supply chain to provide tracking capabilities, streamline
the flow of business information and provide much more granular control of supply chain activities.
Companies now strive to mimic L F by following the modern adage substitute information for
inventory . L F continues to leverage the power of the Internet, as customers demand more customized

Example Of Fascism
What is Fascism? By definition fascism is a form of government that is ruled by one person as a
dictator often times a violent and aggressive one. Fascists dictators are against democratic
governments, where the people are free and rule. Examples of a famous fascist leaders are Benito
Mussolini, ruler of Italy from nineteen twenty two to nineteen forty three and Adolf Hitler, possibly
one of if not the most infamous dictators in all of history. Hitler was a violent dictator of Nazi
Germany from nineteen thirty four to nineteen thirty five. These two men exemplify everything that
fascism stands for, ruling with fear, aggression, and zero freedom for the people. I would argue that
fascism is both an ideology and a method, but at different times in the rise to power. In the climb and
rise to power fascism is a method used to gain people s attention, gain their trust and ultimately their
vote. While in power fascism becomes an ideology in the way that policies and ideas are used to keep
people in line, making sure the people know who s in charge. Exhibiting the power to gain the peoples
trust, therefore, keep their trust as strong as ever. An example of a dictator using fascism as a method
to gain support and votes of the people is to simply tell them what they want to hear. If the country s
economy is bad at the time a fascist politician is running for power, they may say how they are going
to fix and revamp the economy, so that it never happens again. Often times they just say things for the
attention and votes, fully knowing that they are not going to put any effort into solving the problem. If
they do try, it is not full hearted. They know that as soon as the current problem is fixed they will have
to find a new issue to take on. A dictator needs a cause to ride on the back of in order to gain the
peoples trust.. A quote by Adolf Hitler proves this best, If you tell a big enough lie and tell it
frequently enough, it will be believed . Once in power I believe that fascism becomes an ideology to
keep the people in check. Through the use of fascist ideas and policies fascist dictators are able to
keep people under their control and keep their trust. Hitler used aggression and intimidation to

Summary Of The Protestant Ethic And The Spirit Of Capitalism
In the essay of Weber, The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism (1905), he presented his
perspective about the spirit of capitalism and how the ascetic Protestantism was one of the major
elective affinities associated with the rise in the Western world of market driven capitalism . During
the first and the second chapter we could appreciate two important social behaviors. First, the
influence of one of the most important social structures religion affects the social behavior of people.
Second, the development of new moral standards due to the new conception well being. The
development of Protestantism, the difference of pre capitalism and modern capitalism, and the

not going to change their values, moral and code of conduct because they experiment changes in their

someone that I feel comfortable with. Also, I like to work in a team and people around me because I
think teamwork always bring the positive results. For stability under stress skills, I think it s related to
emotional stability in the Big 5. I feel confident when I m handling with stress. Also, I always calm
myself when dealing with stress or pressure situation.
The skills I need to improve and develop on are critical thinking skills because they are really

The Cause And Effects Of Global Warming
Global warming is the long term trend in the increase of Earth s average surface temperature due to
effect of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels or from
deforestation, which trap heat that would otherwise escape from Earth. This entrapment of greenhouse
gases is what is causing average temperatures around the world to rise. Global Warming is responsible
for the increase in natural disasters, because since the global climate has been continuously increasing
over the years it has increased the chances for natural disasters to occur around the world. There are
many causes for global warming; the increase in carbon dioxide is the leading major cause. Article 1
states, CO2 absorbs heat reflected from the Earth s surface heat that would otherwise pass freely into
space. The CO2 then releases that heat, warming the Earth s atmosphere. As CO2 levels increase, the
pace of warming accelerates. Satellite measurements confirm that less heat is escaping the atmosphere
today than 40 years ago. Though other heat trapping gases also play a role, CO2 is the primary
contributor to global warming. (ucsusa.org art.1) The increase in carbon dioxide gases has caused the
global surface temperatures to increase, by the gases trapping the extra heat inside of earth that are
meant to escape and leave earth. However, while carbon dioxide is what is causing global warming,
with it increasing the global surface temperature, humans is what is causing the

As mentioned in the last poem the wall is an ongoing metaphor for their relationship. In lines 1 and 35
frost repeats the phrase Something there is that doesn t love a wall . This represents the Narrator s side
of the disagreement. He no longer want the separating him, from his neighbor, he wants to befriend
him. Several times he points how there is an entity or force that doesn t want the wall up. And that
maybe it s for the best if it isn t dividing them. That sends the frozen ground swell under it, And spills

nature takes course in destroying the wall so they can meet. And even alter he suggests that maybe its

this is the neighbor s rebuttal as to why the fence should remain. The fence is to maintain their
nonexistent relationship. Without having the neighbors disagree on the fence the story would be

Police Brutality in Anywhere, USA Essay
After our marching band s performance at a football game was cancelled because of lightning, about
six or seven of the band members (including a few student leaders) sat around shooting the breeze, not
fighting, not smoking, not drinking, not being loud. An unmarked police car rolled up and our
conversation stopped as we turned our attention to him.
In an acrid and condescending tone, the policeman pointed a finger to the exit of the parking lot and
said, Out.
Okay, just give us a moment to figure out what we can do, we replied. We wondered if Friendly s was

My friend and I, both student leaders, got out of the car to address the situation.
The officer, frantic and quite enraged at his own idiocy, pointed a menacing finger at me, Let me see
your ID.
Why do want to see my ID? I asked, because I was the passenger.
Let me see your ID! he demanded. I asked why again, reminding him that it was a legitimate question.
Getting the same non answer, I started to hand him my license. He all but ripped it from my hand.
And may I have your name? I asked. He is Detective X.
A fine representation of the Marching Knights you are! he yelled. I must have missed the meeting that
decided nothing cordial will be said by, and no questions will be asked of, an officer of the law. Even
though my parents pay him his salary, he is above acting like a decent human being. His last name
sounded familiar. I should have known better than to ask if I knew his son. The officer s eyes widened
and he yelled, You leave my family out of this! I guess that was his way of saying yes.
As three more police cars showed up, Officer X instructed everyone to go home except for me and my
friend. He said he knew everyone had junior licenses and would be out past curfew, when actually the
only one who did was rear ended by a cop, which caused him to stay out way past curfew (nice irony).
Officer X also suggested, very rudely, that a

Sydney from ranking higher on the list is the fact that it is too wet of a place.

Theme Of Marigolds
Adolescence is a bumpy and unknown section of the road known as life. Both the short story
Marigolds by Eugenia Collier and the poem Hard on the Gas, by Janet S. Wong relate to the theme
that the road to growing up and maturing isn t always smooth . Marigolds is the story of an adolescent
who is growing up in the Great Depression. Through hard experiences and tumultuous emotions, the
narrator learns that growing up is full of ups and downs. Hard on the Gas is a poem about a grandchild
driving with his or her grandfather. The grandchild realizes that the road isn t always perfect and that
there will be bumps along the way. The theme the road growing up and maturing isn t always smooth
is conveyed in both of these selection. In Marigolds a young girl is growing up during the Great
Depression. For Lizabeth, the narrator, everyday is a challenge. As she transitions from an innocent,
naive child to an aware, yet unsure young woman, the smooth road she s been traveling on suddenly
becomes bumpy and unfamiliar when a fit of anger taken out on her neighbor marks Lizabeth s
growing up. All the smoldering emotions of that summer swelled in me and burst the great need for
my mother who was never there, the hopelessness of our poverty and degradation, the bewilderment
of being neither child nor woman and yet both at once... , (Collier, Marigolds ). All of the emotions
that Lizabeth has been holding in spill out of her in an audacious, violent action that will exile her
childhood; the destroying of Miss Lottie s prized marigolds. When Lizabeth realizes with remorse
what she s done, she gains the heavy burden of adulthood. In that humiliating moment I looked
beyond myself and into the depths of another person. This was the beginning of compassion, and one
cannot have both compassion and innocence , (Collier, Marigolds ). When Lizabeth conveys that Miss
Lottie had planted marigolds as a show of passion and hope, she becomes compassionate towards
Miss Lottie, ridding her of her childish innocence. While Hard on the Gas is minimally worded, the
meaning of the poem speaks volumes. The poem conveys growing up, and the fact that the road to
adulthood is not, in fact, smooth. Rush, rest, rush, rest ,

The High Priority For School Districts
Response to Changes
Elementary Level Changes occurred in other areas rather than just writing. In elementary schools,
teaching phonics has become extremely important. Phonics is important for students in learning
vocabulary and how to read. Additionally, elementary reading requirements have become more
vigorous. Elementary curriculums are changing drastically to help students prepare for the new
Common Core requirements. Many teachers are going through tons of hours of training and doing a
lot of extra work to learn new reading curriculums. The new elementary trainings are costing school
districts heaps of money and costing teachers voluminous hours of time, making many teachers
disgruntled and frustrated with the change. However, these changes are important for teaching the
Common Core, which is why spending money on improving curriculums and educating teachers has
become a high priority for school districts.
Secondary Level In secondary education, the Common Core is expecting reading, writing, speaking,
and listening to be taught in a variety of subject areas, not just ELA. Students should be reading an
assortment of texts and writing and speaking about the texts in social studies, science, and technical
subjects as well. Having class discussions and using writing to share ideas are simple ways to teach
about nonfiction and informational texts in any subject area. By exposing students to a variety of
nonfiction pieces in different subjects, it is broadening their

Shaka s Legacy Of The Zulu Nation
Shaka kaSenzangakhona was born in 1787 to a Zulu chief, Senzangakhona, and an orphaned princess
from the small Elangeni clan, Nandi. A man born out of wedlock managed to turn a small insignificant
chiefdom who labelled themselves as people of the Heavens into a formidable force to be reckoned
with even till this day. The Zulu nation and its people owe lot to Shaka the Great, he built a nation
whose numbers were few than two thousands and who neither powerful they were mere sheep. With
the introduction of Shaka the Great, Dingiswayo vision of having a united nation of all Ngnui
speaking people was possible. However the growth of the Zulu nation has to be attributed to Shaka
military organisation that incorporated regiments from defeated tribes and in return those tribes
pledged their support and loyalty to his ever growing empire and did not suffer attacks provide they

Generation Archetypes
In every developed country electrical power has evolved from a luxury to an absolute necessity. Even
though it is wonderful to be able to read a book using the light emitted from a lamp and people could
easily use a candle. Now a more important application such as the ability to save lives using advanced
medical equipment would be far too great of a loss, if were to go without power. So how do people
continue to create and harness electrical energy? The large majority of electrical power comes from
fossil fired or nuclear fired generation. Both fossil and nuclear fired use their fuel source to heat water
into steam which is used to spin turbine of a generator. However one of the glaring weaknesses of
these types of generation archetypes is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For renewable sources of energy it is the most reliable even though it is variable. Different power
generation methods have finite resources that will eventually run out. Other renewable energy
resources while powerful are either unreliable such as wind are not always available such as solar
energy. Through the use of dams we can store water to be used when needed to supply the demand
caused by energy consumption. Using gravity water is allowed to flow through a turbine causing a
generator to make electricity. When demand is low the water can be pumped back up into the
containing reservoir to make another hydroelectric head. This process can just be continued creating a
reliable capacity of energy. In the use of tidal power generation electricity comes in and out with the
tide. There is a small marginal effect on the environment because no emission or hazardous waste is
being made. While most prime locations for traditional hydroelectric power plants are already taken,
there are plenty of locations to be used for tidal power generation. Once the technology to build
underwater structures that are able to last against the harsh waves is more manageable there will be
plenty of new location ready to be taken throughout the ocean. These generation plants will just be
using water and gravity to supply power to meet the ever growing demand of the population. Using
water to it full advantage in every facet possible from traditional hydroelectric pumped storage, run of
the water types, tidal barrage using shoreline bays and tidal current using the oceans current will make
it the greatest resource on

The Importance Of English As An Official Language
Most people assume that english is the official language of the United States, however this is not the
case, as there is no official language in the states. Since the origins of the country, english has
consistently been spoken across the land, however it has never been established as the official
language. America is a melting pot of cultures and the same can be said for it s languages. Citizens in
America speak an array of languages including Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, Gujrati, Urdu and
hundreds more. However, with the amount of languages spoken in America, an official language is the
glue needed to connect citizens The increase in languages spoken in America, is directly proportional
to the increase in Immigration. America has been built on the back of these immigrants, but because
they come from different backgrounds they need to define what it means to be American. Establishing
english as the official language gives all citizens common ground, developing english into not only a
language, but an important aspect of being, American. Several states have already established english
as their official language, and they have seen an increased involvement of their immigrants in not only
their societies, but their economies. Establishing english as the official language across the United
States reaps several financial and social benefits, and is a required step in achieving unity.
Making english the USA s official language will increase immigrant s opportunities in the

went exactly as planned, but the boss was still in the room and he had to kill him to save his partner.

Origin of data warehousing In early 80s business world more concerned about the large amount of
data that is emerging from their customer world and worried about how to store that amount of data,
during that time old business instruments took a large amount of time to execute the business instead
of running it and it is also costly, time consuming and risky to deals with that much big amount of data
(Inmon, 2005). The concept of data warehousing dates back to the late 1980s when IBM researchers
Barry Devlin and Paul Murphy introduced the term Business data warehouse . In 1986, Red Brick
Systems founded by Ralph Kimball began to do research on improving data access (Hammergren,
2005). In 1990s executives become less concerned with the day to day business operations and overall
concerned with overall business functions and worried about large amount of data. Due to the
improvements and magnification in the information systems where large amount of data needs to be
saved and retrieved, data warehousing was additionally enhanced and advanced to cope up with such
immensely large amounts of data (Kelly, 2009).
Trends in data warehousing
To have a better results, the enterprise should be able to analyze its data quickly as it access it.
Enterprises should understand how customers interact with the business. According to Ponniah (2004)
data warehousing is revolutionizing the way people perform business analysis and make strategic

Roles Of The Drummer Boys Of The American Revolution
Will Partridge
Drummer Boys of the American Revolution
Drummer Boys played a valuable role in the war. They supported the troops by: 1) completing camp
chores to free the men for more difficult tasks, and 2) They played duty calls and signals to tell the
soldiers what to do during combat and played marching music to boost troop morale. 3) They helped
sustain order and discipline. The drummer boys were from the thirteen colonies. They were often
enlisted by their parents or if they were a slave by their master. Some slaves volunteered so that they
could earn their freedom. The drummer boys also enlisted because they were very patriotic. The age
range of the drummer boys was sixteen to twenty although there younger drummers who were twelve
to fourteen years old.
The drummer boys did camp chores to free the adults for harder work and also did many things adults
did. The boys gathered firewood and chopped wood, guarded prison coastlines guarded prisoners dug
latrines waited on officers slaughtered livestock hauled small wagons built defensive works spied on
enemies carried messages marched for miles foraged for food.
Drums are loud so the soldiers could hear them during battle and they were the way to communicate.
The history of using drums goes back to early, Switzerland. Music was for the morale of the troops.

Red School House Durrie Analysis
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the largest and most visited museum around the world; it
exhibits a lot of magnificent artworks from artists throughout the worldwide and history. The painting
Red School House (Country Scene) is one of the best examples. It was painted in 1858 by a great
American artist, George Henry Durrie (1820 1863). The medium of this painting are oil and canvas.
This painting was based in New Haven, Connecticut. The size of this work is approximately 26 x 36

The artist used vertical perspective, overlapping, diminishing size, and atmospheric perspective to
achieve the perceptual style. The vertical perspective means that the foreground is at the bottom of the
painting, and middle ground is in the middle, and the background is on the top. In this painting, the
carriage is the closest to the audience, so it is located on the bottom. The mountain is the farthest, so it
is on the top. Meanwhile, the artist made objects overlap with each other to creates an illusion of near
and far. The trees on the left side of this painting overlaps with the houses in the back. Thus, the
audiences can feel that the trees are nearer than house. At the same time, when the tree overlaps with
the houses, which also create an illusion to the audiences that the trees are in the front of the house.
The author also used diminishing size to illustrate the distant between the objects on this work and the
observer. Diminishing size means that objects come smaller as they go farther away. In the painting,
the horses are much bigger than the kids. It does not mean that the horses are literally much bigger but
means that the horses are closer to the audience. Atmospheric perspective means that the objects in the
foreground is clear and crisp, and the things in the background is less clarity, and become hazy. In this
painting, the color is vibrant in the foreground, and the color becomes bluish gray in the background.
The mountain looks vague, and the horses and the houses are really clear. The artist used all those
methods to create the illusion of space and depth and used space and depth to create

Critical Analysis Of Lapis Lazuli
Lapis Lazuli is a kind of a precious blue stone. (Marc 1998) Lapis Lazuli referred to in this poem was
given to Yeats on his seventieth birthday (as a present) by Mr. Harry Clifton. In this essay I am going

Nietzsches Superman Essay
Though when most people think of superheroes they think of the type with super powers, the original
idea of the superman was developed by Friedrich Nietzsche in the 1800s. The ubermensch (literally
overman in German) never had extra ordinary powers and wasn t developed as the protector of man.
Instead, the superman is a person who has overcome all the flaws of mankind and is essentially
perfect. This idea, though it was thought of as an ideal goal that all people should strive for, has almost
completely been used for less than good agendas. The details of what Nietzsche s superman is

He felt the idea of the superman as well as other Nietzsche writings gave him and the Nazis the right
and the reason to take over what they wished and impose the beliefs they wished. In fact, Hitler
believed himself to be a superman. This belief is evident by the way Hitler acted during his reign as
the leader of the Nazi party. The attempted destruction of the Jewish people as a race was actually
based on writings by Nietzsche. In Hitler s mind the Jews were inferior and therefore no compassion
should be given to them. Hitler, of course, took this once step further and actually killed many of the
weak. During World War II Hitler even issued every German soldier a copy of one of Nietzsche s
writings, Thus Spake Zarathustra. National Socialism and Fascism also spawned from Nietzsche and
his thoughts on society. Nietzsche himself was very much socialist in his beliefs which is evident in
much of what he wrote. Though socialism may seem far from Nietzsche s idea of the superman, it is
actually very close because the ruler is looked at as a superman who makes all decisions and knows
what is best at all times. This can be seen in many societies such as Italy and Germany in World War
II, and to some extent The Soviet Union. In each of these cases the ruling party or man used Nietzsche
s beliefs to rationalize their rampant wars, hatred, and genocide.

Advertising Cigarettes and Chewing Tobacco Essay examples
Advertising Cigarettes and Chewing Tobacco
Tobacco, tumor causing teeth staining smelly puking habit. Advertising has become a way of life. The
average American is exposed to 3,000 advertisements a day. These advertisements come from the
television, radio, news papers, billboard signs, and countless other ways. The advertisers use different
ways of attracting a consumer to buy their product. One of the strategies that the author will use is
called appeals, which uses ethos (ethics), pathos (feelings), and logos (logic). Some people believe it
is and will continue to destroy life and moral values in our nation. The rhetorical triangle is used very
well in advertising; in some cases it is hard to catch the imbedded message. The ... Show more content

The kids do not see before and after pictures of people who have smoked for years in the magazines or
commercials. The youth also think they will not get addicted. I also believe that by the time most
people are the age twenty they have decided whether or not they are going to smoke or not. Kids see
attractive people in movies and commercials smoking, or cartoon animals smoking and they think it is
cool. If a product, like cigarettes, will make kids feel like they fit in, then they will do it even if the
product will hurt them. This kind of audience, the youth, is very vulnerable because they will do
anything to get accepted by people.
The author for the audience of chewing tobacco is targeting young blue collar men ages eighteen to
around thirty. The ads are targeting the young men who work outside or like doing out door activities.
In this Copenhagen ad the quote next to the rider says I never walk when I can ride. And I never ride
without my cope. The ad has a younger man on a horse taking a dip and two other riders trying to
catch up to him on the open range. In this Grizzly chew ad the slogan is Pinch Yourself . The ad
contains two guys out in the woods having a day dream with two really big deer in their bubble . In

The Glass Menagerie Escapism Essay
The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams is a play with references to his own life concerning his
sister and mother. During the play there are many reoccurring symbols, each symbol is crucial to the
play in order to understand the idea of escape. Through the narrator s perspective, we are able to
witness the mainstream family during a war depression era. We see a single mother, unable to accept
change and retaining to the past; a sister, who has trouble dealing with reality and lives in a fictional
world where she has become fragile and unable to function outside her house within society; and the
narrator himself a young hardworking male figure within his house, whom the family depends upon.

The idea of war was an idea that was seen as adventurous in order to get escape from the harsh reality
of the 30 s poor economy. The escapism offered by entertainment in the play is symbolic for
excitement of war. America resembled Tom seeking and escape from their bland lifestyle leading them
to violent and desperate hopes, in which war is when adventure becomes available to masses. Tom
notices that America s ideas of adventures were much like Amanda and Laura s ideas of escape, they
only temporarily lifted the gloom of their problems. Much like Tom Americans during the 30 s looked
to escape by going to the movies. The theater for many Americans impoverished by the great
depression was one of the only affordable forms of entertainment. At the theater they could find
adventure. Like people in the U.S. Laura, Amanda, and Tom all strive to find adventure by escaping
their bland lives in their own ways. Although all three characters escape to find adventure in different
ways they all escape for the same reason, in order to fantasy and avoid their reality. Their escape from
reality however drives them further apart into an undeniable

Odysseus Mistakes
Odysseus is known for being a great war hero and leader who must go through many obstacles to
reach his homeland of Ithaca. Many of the obstacles are caused by the gods, however Odysseus is the
cause of his own troubles. He does not learn from his mistakes and his main flaw is pride. Odysseus s
journey home started when he was getting ready to set sail and leave Troy after the Trojan War.
Odysseus shouts how he solved the war all by himself without any help from the gods. He is arrogant
about their victory which angers Poseidon. Poseidon, along with other gods, curses his journey home.

Lethal Control Essay
The lethal control of cats is controversial and is a challenge in cat management. Lethal control occurs
at different scales, ranging from individuals to populations. Eradication programs have mostly been
done on islands and have used a variety of methods to eradicate cat populations. This allows for
venerable/sensitive species to recover in often fragile and unique environments. Nogales et al, (2004)
noted that cats have been eradicated from 48 islands, the methods used were hunting, trapping,
poisoning, and the use of viral disease.
Shooting is often used in wildlife management. The humaneness of shooting is dependent on the
ability of the shooter (DEFRA, 2005). Shooting is often combined with trapping and poisoning to
remove the remaining cats from islands (Bester et al, 2000). Shooting is target specific and generally
humane, but requires alot of time and labour, and is most suited to smaller areas such as islands (Sharp
Saunders, 2005). Van Rensberg Bester (1988) reported that when cat numbers were low on the island,
shooting was very successful in killing the last remaining cats.
Diseases such as Feline Panleucopenia have been used on islands in efforts to control cat populations.

reproductive condition (King Edgar, 1977). Lee (1995) tested cages and soft jawed traps and found
that soft jawed traps were more effective than cage traps. However, there was by catch in the soft
jawed traps. Domm Messersmith (1990) reported that they abandoned trapping for cat control because
of the time and manpower needed. Short et al, (1997) evaluated different control methods including;
trapping, poisoning, spotlight shooting and found that trapping was the most successful, but also

That Increases Knowledge Increases Sorrow Philosophers have struggled with answering the question
of the meaning of life since the time of Plato. In attempts to answer this question they, have
deconstructed this idea and have, in the process, isolated the components of what makes life
meaningful. Among the many components one is the drive to seek wisdom and knowledge in order to
avoid suffering caused by ignorance and finding happiness. (Gyatso, The Meaning of Life: Buddhist
Perspectives on Cause and Effect, 78). There are many discrepancies present as to what constitutes
knowledge. Presently the terms knowledge and information have become ... Show more content on

They have come to conclusion that the only way to be happy is to stay away from depressing and
troubling matters, which to some degree is true, but this does not justify being ignorant about all that
happens in the world. The problem with this ideology hits the very basic of human instincts, the desire
to know. ...we can t deny our thought, or our memories. To deny our thought is to deny our dignity.
Our dignity follows the direction of our thought. (Blaise Pascal). People who hold the sentiment of
ignorance being bliss do not contribute to the evolution of society; they are consumers, not producers.
Society has a wide variety of flaws, such as rape culture, gender inequality, racism, intolerance,
extremism, etc. However, having knowledge about these only adds to one s awareness and it is
because of this awareness that the individual can work towards reducing and henceforth eradicating
these flaws from society. Unaware individuals are simply cogs in the machine, who, because of their
unawareness have no desire to change the world around them. Even if they do, they find themselves
flabbergasted when they try to think of a solution. Pessimism never got anyone anywhere.
Unfortunately being aware of these issues also includes knowing about the terrifying stories of people
who have been wronged. We can agree to the fact that rape is prevalent in society and that it is
difficult to talk about without feeling uncomfortable. The

Paradise Ghetto In The Holocaust
Theresienstadt: Paradise Ghetto When looking back at the Holocaust, the noun paradise may not be
used to label Ghettos like Lódz or Warsaw. Adolf Hitler, the Führer of Germany, considered the
Theresienstadt Ghetto a gift to the Jews because it was considered one of the more culturally freeing
concentration camps. Even though this concentration camp was more lenient on the rules regarding
cultural expression, the Jews transported there quickly found that it was still part of Hitler s final
solution of the Jewish question. Starting in June of 1940, the Nazis took control over Bohemia and
Moravia, regions close to the fortress town of Terezín, Czechoslovakia. Upon seeing the land, Terezín
was seen to have a purpose for the Germans that were threefold. One of them was to build a holding
point for most of the deported Jews. Another purpose was to be a transit camp to transport Jews to
extermination camps. Finally, it was mainly used to create a façade of the extermination of Jews at
concentration camps the Nazi government established across Eastern Europe. ... Show more content

Insoluble Concentration
Silver sulfadiazine may displace the hydrogen bonds within the bacterial DNA. Once these bonds that
serve to connect the 2 strands of the DNA double helix are displaced, bacterial replication and cell
viability are effectively reduced. Mammalian cells have approximately 100 times more DNA than
bacterial cells. Thus, the ratio of inhibitory concentrations of silver sulfadiazine to bacterial DNA is
high enough to prevent bacterial division. However, the resulting ratio of silver sulfadiazine to
epithelial DNA is sufficiently low that epithelial cell regeneration is not impaired. As silver
sulfadiazine (AgSd) is relatively insoluble it reacts very slowly with the chloride components of tissue
exudates to form silver chloride (AgCl) and sodium sulfadiazine (NaSd). Sodium sulfadiazine thus
formed being a structural analog and competitive antagonists of para aminobenzoic acid (PABA),
prevent normal bacterial utilization of PABA for the synthesis of folic acid (pteroylglutamic acid)
which is required for the synthesis of various precursors of DNA and RNA like thymidine ... Show

The Differences Between Parliamentary Presidential System
Differences between Parliamentary system and Presidential system [Judiciary]
In relating both systems, parliamentary and presidential systems are currently using different judiciary
system to enforce law in society. Before entering judiciary segment, it is essential to understand the
definition of judiciary where it can be noted that:
...Judiciary is commonly considered the third branch of government. It stabilizes the political system
by solving disputes involving the country s law... (Barrington, 2010, p. 280)
...It is emphatically the province and duty of the judicial department to say what the law is... John
Marshall cited in (Woll, 1992, p. 251)

Administration of law in United Kingdom is different with United States of America, this can shown
in:
...The United Kingdom does not have a single body of law applicable throughout the kingdom.
Scotland has it is own distinctive system and courts, and in Northern Ireland certain spheres of law
differ in substance from those operating in England and Wales.
The main civil courts in England and Wales are:
Magistrates Courts
County Courts for small cases and
The High Court, which is divided into
The Chancery Division,
The Family Division, and
The Queen s Bench Division (including the maritime and commercial courts), for the more important
cases...
(The United Kingdom Judicial System)
But in United States of America the courts that operating are:
...Supreme Courts consisted of six justices, who rode the circuit as judges of the Courts of Appeals.
The courts was reduced to five members at one time and expended to ten at another. Since 1869, The
Supreme Courts has consistently had nine members. And since 1891, the justices have no had to serve
on courts of appeal, although each justice has some responsibilities with at least one appeals court...
(Woll, 1992, p. 268)
The differences are can be shown when comparing the administration on judiciary branch. In United
States of America the judiciary branches are administered by congress because:

Change Chalenge And Management Essay
Change, Challenge, and Management
INTRODUCTION
Few words can strike more fear into the heart of an individual than change. We are creatures of habit
and feel most secure when we are doing what we know. But how are the three distinct words Change ,
Challenge and Management , connected?
These words are interconnected and interdependent. Effective change management involves aligning
all enterprise resources physical assets, know how, technology and people simultaneously, but with a
different intensity at the organizational, work group and individual levels. Yes, it is a challenge. This is
the challenge of the modern enterprise: to be relevant in the context of its dynamic marketplace and to
maintain that relevance even in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Change in management entails thoughtful planning and sensitive implementation, and above all,
consultation with, and involvement of, the people affected by the changes. If you force change on
people normally problems arise. Change must be realistic, achievable and measurable. These aspects
are especially relevant to managing personal change. Before starting organizational change, ask
yourself: What do we want to achieve with this change, why, and how will we know that the change
has been achieved? Who is affected by this change, and how will they react to it? How much of this
change can we achieve ourselves, and what parts of the change do we need help with? These aspects
also relate strongly to the management of personal as well as organizational change.
THEORIES OF CHANGE
Theory of change refers to the causal processes through which change comes about as a result of a
program s strategies and action. It relates to how practitioners believe individual, intergroup, and
social/ systemic change happens and how, specifically, their actions will produce positive results.
Theories of change can be identified either prospectively as part of planning an initiative or
retrospectively as part an evaluative process. In either case, this kind of analysis requires both time
and honest reflection from program leaders and practitioners.
An early model of change developed by Kurt Lewin described change as a three stage process. The
first stage he called unfreezing .

  • 2. Lilies of the Field Lilies of The Field is a book written by William Barrett. Mr. Ralph Nelson, a producer, was introduced to this book by his agent Fred Ingles. Ralph Nelson was so intrigued by this story that he wanted to put it on film. Finally after much negotiation it was brought to the silver screen in 1963 by Mr. Ralph Nelson with a very low budget. With determination and tenacity Mr. Nelson achieved his dream. The entire film was shot in fourteen days! Incredibly, the picture was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Additionally, Lilies of the Field achieved motion picture history as Sidney Poitier was awarded the Best Actor Oscar, marking the first time in history an Academy Award was awarded to a black man. Choosing this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout all of the negotiations, there is an underlying spiritual undertone which drives the negotiation on both sides. There are ethical issues and spiritual issues which motivate the outcome of each negotiated battle. They both have needs and wants, and it becomes a battle which often may be directed by the notion of God himself. During the first negotiated moment the process standard is clear, Mother Maria is the dominate negotiator, she is strong, forthright and determined. She easily overpowers Mr. Schmidt as she refers to him, into staying and fixing their roof. Mr. Smith gives in and accepts her offer because he is in need of gas money. His thoughts and needs are simple; he wants gas money so that he can be on his way. Mr. Smith considered her deal as a win win for himself. He realizes that his needs will be considered therefore, he assumes he will benefit from this agreement. Mother Maria, on the other hand, needs Mr. Smith to stay on longer she wants him to build a church chapel. Mr. Smith agreed to fix the roof for monetary compensation. Mother Maria agreed that he would be compensated after the work is done. Unfortunately, Mother Maria withheld information; she didn t have any money to pay him, and she knew that. Ethics played a large role in my analysis of Mother Marias tactics. Of course, she may have thought that she was doing the work of God; therefore, ethics was a non issue. However in negotiations ethic is very important. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Student Diversity At Our School When I went on stage during our weekly assembly and announced the start of affinity groups at our school, I was oblivious to the reaction of the hundreds of students in the audience. I was focused on speaking clearly and getting through my short speech, excited by what I was announcing. I didn t know that the few sentences I read off a piece of paper would change my perception of my school, my friends, and myself. Almost as soon as I got out of the assembly, before I even got to my next class, I began hearing people criticizing affinity groups. Many people were saying that this was segregating students, that we were being reverse racists , that there was no need for the groups or any discussions about race, that SDLC (the diversity club I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only people who had had any experience with these groups were the people who had attended the SDLC conference, where we participated in our respective affinity groups. Soon after we announced the start of the groups, other students confronted me about the groups. Many people had an almost visceral reaction against the concept of the groups, having been taught for so long that it is wrong to single out people for their race. I understand why it was hard for people to acknowledge the need for these groups, as it meant acknowledging that our whole system had flaws; that there was still racism and prejudice within our community. This is not something people were comfortable discussing. My school s motto is Excellence and Honor and many students are incredibly smart and high achieving. We pride ourselves not just on our academic strength but on our honor code and ethical behavior. This made people particularly hesitant to pop the bubble of excellence and perfection by discussing things like racism. I d like to think that I am naturally an open minded and accepting person, but perhaps if I hadn t been to the SDLC conference and participated in the affinity groups there, I too would have been skeptical of the program. • 4. Blockbuster History Films Essay History films have often been criticised by academics and journalists as inaccurate depictions of the past. Yet there is no denying the fact that blockbuster history films are increasingly influential in shaping our understanding of historical people and events thanks to the accessibility of the medium. Producers of these films often take liberties with facts to tell a more dramatic, engaging and entertaining story. They have a basis in truth but are greatly influenced by the writers and directors desire to envelop the audience in the story and to entertain. They focus the visual and auditory senses of the viewer on the subject being studied creating a stimulating and forceful impact on the viewer, therefore engaging their interest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Historically, Martin is loosely tied to the Continental Army Officer Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox , along with four other historical figures. Francis Marion was notoriously known for his use of guerrilla tactics against British troops in South Carolina, something which is presented historically accurate in the film. The Patriot has inspired a new resurgence in research into the American Revolution; raising the public awareness of what has become an almost mythical war, and creates an opportunity for teachers and students to gain a deeper understanding of the era. In some aspects, director Roland Emmerich historically replicated events accurately. The film also accurately portrays why the American Revolution started within the opening sequence of the film; that being the revolt against british taxation without any American representation. The American Revolution came about, fundamentally, because by 1763 the English speaking communities on the far side of the Atlantic had matured to an extent that their interests and goals were distinct from those of the ruling classes in the mother country. However, despite the historical accuracies, the film depicts various inaccurate characteristics such as some states offering freedom to African Americans serving in the war for a period of three years. The film suggests that the War of Independence was a liberating experience for African Americans and also that the field ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Nuclear Power in Australia’s Energy Future Essays Since its discovery in the late 19th century, nuclear energy has been used in a diversity of areas such as atomic bombs, medicine, reducing pollution and food irradiation (Gupta, 2012). However, one of the biggest outcomes since this discovery is nuclear energy generation. This subject is largely controversial as it has many pros and cons. It is considered to be a more eco friendly alternative source of electricity, as it emits less carbon emissions than coal fired power stations, for example. Yet there still an environmental risk provided by the radio active waste and its inability to be disposed of for 100,000 years (Phillips, 2012). Today in Australia there are no active nuclear power plants but that is predicted to change in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Professor Per Peterson from the Department of Nuclear Engineering says, It s difficult for me to see how we can transition away from fossil fuels and not use significant amounts of nuclear energy (Phillips, 2012). Many argue that renewable sources of energy such as solar and wind should be implemented instead of nuclear energy as they too produce no air pollution. However, modern society requires a reliable base load of electricity which renewables are not equipped to provide. In Australia there are limited sources that could potentially supply a suitable base load . They include coal and gas (which produce CO2 emissions) geothermal, hydro (which is limited due to the lack of water), developing technology and nuclear energy (Krieg, 2014). Renewable sources of energy also prove to be a problem as they are too fickle to provide base load power to a nation, as they depend on intermittent things such as weather and seasons, whereas nuclear power is available constantly whilst being a cleaner source of power. An example of the environmental success nuclear energy has provided is France in the 1970s and 1980s. The country switched from using fossil fuels and instead used nuclear energy to supply 78% of its electricity (see figure 3). This in turn lowered the country s greenhouse emissions by approximately 2% each year since. No accidents have ever occurred at any of France s power plants (Biello, 2013). People ... • 6. Narcissism In The Peter In addition to the fact that Peter could not enjoy domestic happiness, he is also unable to form lasting, loving relationships with any human being. This could be explained by Peter s heartlessness that is attached to forgetfulness and narcissism. Firstly, his narcissism lies in the fact that he does not truly care about anyone except himself. Consequently, Peter never noticed how short Wendy s dress become at the end of the first year because he had so much about himself and even when he came again after many years he at first didn t notice a difference, for he was thinking chiefly of himself . Secondly, it is a known fact that memories have a very strong impact on life in general; they are a powerful source of emotions, also remembering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I personally think that writer wanted to emphasis the importance of growing up but at the same time remain a little child inside and it is totally different from just remaining a child and rejecting the adulthood as Peter does. For example, there was very childish deed when James Hook was doomed to death and invited Peter with a gesture to use his foot . Even though Capitan was dying he was calm and almost happy because of Peter s bad forms . Likewise, Mr. Darling, as the writer pointed out, might have passed for a boy again if he had been able to take his baldness off . Also, the fact that he ceased to be sensitive to the opinion of neighbours , nearly lived in the kennel as well as medicine accident displayed his childish behaviour. However, exactly this situation made him feel gratifying and he became sweeter . Lastly, Wendy herself is a direct proof that there is nothing terrible adulthood, conversely she was one of the kind that likes to grow up . Although something inside her was crying Woman, woman, let go of me , it was just a quick impulse, as a matter of fact, she was simply nostalgic about dear old days why (shy) could fly . • 7. Five Stages of Grief Grief is an emotion that we have which is very complex and often misunderstood. Unfortunately, grief is something that we all will experience in our lives at one time or another. We will all experience loss in our lives. The stages of grief are the same whether it be through the death of a loved one, divorce, or some other loss. There are five stages of grief. It is said that if we get stuck in one of the stages, the process of grieving is not complete, and cannot be complete. This means that a person will not complete the entire healing process when there is a loss in their life. A person must go through all five stages of grief to be well again, and to fully heal. Not everyone goes through the stages at the same time. It is different for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These plans are now gone after a loss. We feel an incredible lack of control, and we may even feel numb. Perhaps feelings of suicide may overcome an individual. I obviously feel that family and friends need to be with the person that has experienced a loss, but in this stage more than any of the other stages family and friends must be close. There have been many cases where someone has experienced a loss, and then that person ends up taking their own life. This is the most tragic thing that I can think of. Now we have two horrible losses to deal with, and I sure don t think that this helps anyone in any way. Depression is normal throughout a loss, but not when it is taken to the level of suicide. I think that if enough family and friends are always available to help the person most dealing with the loss then this sort of thing can be avoided. The fifth and final stage of grief is acceptance. It must be noted that there is a difference between resignation and acceptance. A person must accept the loss, not just try to bear it quietly. There must be realization that the person is gone when they die. People must realize that it is not their fault, and that their loved one did not leave them on purpose. It is said that even in cases of suicide often the deceased person was not in their right frame of mind. Acceptance must also occur when going through a divorce. • 8. Persuasive Essay On The Seaworld SeaWorld has been a well loved and renowned place to the USA and the families in it for over 53 years. The world famous entertainment park is well known for its wide variety of oceanic animals, and of course, the part that brings them the most fame: their killer whale shows. Because killer whales are so hard to find in the ocean, and going out on a whale watching boat is usually quite expensive, many people have ended up opting for the choice of going to SeaWorld to see these animals. These shows are considered to be spectacular to some audiences, and an abusive nightmare to others. Despite the fact that many people love SeaWorld and consider it to be a fun and family friendly place, the person with educated knowledge about what really goes on in this place could never see it the same way again, and should want something to be done about it. SeaWorld has caused controversial problems to animal lovers, the people who work there, and of course the killer whales themselves. SeaWorld should be talked about more in schools, educating more young people in hopes that one day there is enough people to take a stand and get this place to stop keeping killer whales captive. In the truth revealing documentary Blackfish , the film reveals what these killer whales in entertainment parks such as SeaWorld go through, along with the trainers who work with them. The documentary shows clips and pictures of the killer whales mauling the trainers, and whales fighting each other resulting in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of The First Earthquake In Canada Currently, the prediction of the Big One is causing a lot of disturbance and fear among people who lived along the coastline of British Columbia. The Big One stands for a Cascadia Megathrust earthquake with magnitude around 9 and it has at least twelve percent probability of hitting Vancouver within the next fifty years ( ). The validity of this prediction has been questioned by many, however, scientific explanation has proven that the Big One will happen in the future sooner or later. Recently, District of North Vancouver has released the results of a detailed five year study that models a shallow 7.3 magnitude earthquake, with epicentre in the Strait of Georgia, risk in the municipality. Although this might not be the worst case scenario,it still provides useful information in terms of determining the vulnerability of North Vancouver facing an earthquake. The bright side of the evaluation is that majority of people live in wood frame houses, which are inherently better able to withstand earthquake damage and most are built on stable, solid ground. That would be especially important if an earthquake struck at night, when most people are home. The dark side is that areas likely to be most impacted by ground shaking and soil failure in an earthquake, especially buildings in several low lying waterfront areas would likely be topple as sandy soils were subject to liquefaction just like the below figure has shown where the red parts indicate areas near the shore or the waterfront is facing structural failure and danger of collapse. • 10. The Disregard Of Human Life The Disregard for Human Life Present in Wartime In Paul Rusesabagnia s, An Ordinary Man: An Autobiography, he tells his story of working in a hotel and turning this hotel into a refuge for over a thousand men, women, and children. He turned the hotel into a refuge to provide safety for targeted groups during an ethnic cleansing. Rusesabagnia shows his view son genocide during war, or the disregard for human life, by stating: A sad truth of human nature is that it is hard to care for people when they are abstractions, hard to care when it is not you or somebody close to you. Unless the world community can stop finding ways to dither in the face of this monstrous threat to humanity those words Never Again will persist in being one of the most abused phrases in the English language and one of the greatest lies of our time. As he possibly implies by stating this, this quote conveys that war poses a disregard for human life through differential belief systems concerning topics such as, racial, political, and religious groups; and, this can be seen in literature relating to wars of all times. Although wars are all fought for reasons, they all share a common theme of the disregard for human life. This common theme is experienced through events like genocide or ethnic cleansings, and illustrate the extent that men will go to in order to persecute others according to their beliefs. Through pictures from major events in World War II, the vast disregard for life is shown by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Example Of Fascism What is Fascism? By definition fascism is a form of government that is ruled by one person as a dictator often times a violent and aggressive one. Fascists dictators are against democratic governments, where the people are free and rule. Examples of a famous fascist leaders are Benito Mussolini, ruler of Italy from nineteen twenty two to nineteen forty three and Adolf Hitler, possibly one of if not the most infamous dictators in all of history. Hitler was a violent dictator of Nazi Germany from nineteen thirty four to nineteen thirty five. These two men exemplify everything that fascism stands for, ruling with fear, aggression, and zero freedom for the people. I would argue that fascism is both an ideology and a method, but at different times in the rise to power. In the climb and rise to power fascism is a method used to gain people s attention, gain their trust and ultimately their vote. While in power fascism becomes an ideology in the way that policies and ideas are used to keep people in line, making sure the people know who s in charge. Exhibiting the power to gain the peoples trust, therefore, keep their trust as strong as ever. An example of a dictator using fascism as a method to gain support and votes of the people is to simply tell them what they want to hear. If the country s economy is bad at the time a fascist politician is running for power, they may say how they are going to fix and revamp the economy, so that it never happens again. Often times they just say things for the attention and votes, fully knowing that they are not going to put any effort into solving the problem. If they do try, it is not full hearted. They know that as soon as the current problem is fixed they will have to find a new issue to take on. A dictator needs a cause to ride on the back of in order to gain the peoples trust.. A quote by Adolf Hitler proves this best, If you tell a big enough lie and tell it frequently enough, it will be believed . Once in power I believe that fascism becomes an ideology to keep the people in check. Through the use of fascist ideas and policies fascist dictators are able to keep people under their control and keep their trust. Hitler used aggression and intimidation to ... The Cause And Effects Of Global Warming Global warming is the long term trend in the increase of Earth s average surface temperature due to effect of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels or from deforestation, which trap heat that would otherwise escape from Earth. This entrapment of greenhouse gases is what is causing average temperatures around the world to rise. Global Warming is responsible for the increase in natural disasters, because since the global climate has been continuously increasing over the years it has increased the chances for natural disasters to occur around the world. There are many causes for global warming; the increase in carbon dioxide is the leading major cause. Article 1 states, CO2 absorbs heat reflected from the Earth s surface heat that would otherwise pass freely into space. The CO2 then releases that heat, warming the Earth s atmosphere. As CO2 levels increase, the pace of warming accelerates. Satellite measurements confirm that less heat is escaping the atmosphere today than 40 years ago. Though other heat trapping gases also play a role, CO2 is the primary contributor to global warming. (ucsusa.org art.1) The increase in carbon dioxide gases has caused the global surface temperatures to increase, by the gases trapping the extra heat inside of earth that are meant to escape and leave earth. Wong relate to the theme that the road to growing up and maturing isn t always smooth . Marigolds is the story of an adolescent who is growing up in the Great Depression. Through hard experiences and tumultuous emotions, the narrator learns that growing up is full of ups and downs. Hard on the Gas is a poem about a grandchild driving with his or her grandfather. The grandchild realizes that the road isn t always perfect and that there will be bumps along the way. The theme the road growing up and maturing isn t always smooth is conveyed in both of these selection. In Marigolds a young girl is growing up during the Great Depression. For Lizabeth, the narrator, everyday is a challenge. As she transitions from an innocent, naive child to an aware, yet unsure young woman, the smooth road she s been traveling on suddenly becomes bumpy and unfamiliar when a fit of anger taken out on her neighbor marks Lizabeth s growing up. All the smoldering emotions of that summer swelled in me and burst the great need for my mother who was never there, the hopelessness of our poverty and degradation, the bewilderment of being neither child nor woman and yet both at once... , (Collier, Marigolds ). All of the emotions that Lizabeth has been holding in spill out of her in an audacious, violent action that will exile her childhood; the destroying of Miss Lottie s prized marigolds. When Lizabeth realizes with remorse what she s done, she gains the heavy burden of adulthood. In that humiliating moment I looked beyond myself and into the depths of another person. This was the beginning of compassion, and one cannot have both compassion and innocence , (Collier, Marigolds ). When Lizabeth conveys that Miss Lottie had planted marigolds as a show of passion and hope, she becomes compassionate towards Miss Lottie, ridding her of her childish innocence. In this painting, the carriage is the closest to the audience, so it is located on the bottom. The mountain is the farthest, so it is on the top. Thus, the audiences can feel that the trees are nearer than house. At the same time, when the tree overlaps with the houses, which also create an illusion to the audiences that the trees are in the front of the house. The author also used diminishing size to illustrate the distant between the objects on this work and the observer. Diminishing size means that objects come smaller as they go farther away. In the painting, the horses are much bigger than the kids. It does not mean that the horses are literally much bigger but means that the horses are closer to the audience. The ubermensch (literally overman in German) never had extra ordinary powers and wasn t developed as the protector of man. Instead, the superman is a person who has overcome all the flaws of mankind and is essentially perfect. He felt the idea of the superman as well as other Nietzsche writings gave him and the Nazis the right and the reason to take over what they wished and impose the beliefs they wished. In fact, Hitler believed himself to be a superman. This belief is evident by the way Hitler acted during his reign as the leader of the Nazi party. The attempted destruction of the Jewish people as a race was actually based on writings by Nietzsche. In Hitler s mind the Jews were inferior and therefore no compassion should be given to them. Hitler, of course, took this once step further and actually killed many of the weak. During World War II Hitler even issued every German soldier a copy of one of Nietzsche s writings, Thus Spake Zarathustra. National Socialism and Fascism also spawned from Nietzsche and his thoughts on society. Nietzsche himself was very much socialist in his beliefs which is evident in much of what he wrote. Though socialism may seem far from Nietzsche s idea of the superman, it is actually very close because the ruler is looked at as a superman who makes all decisions and knows what is best at all times. This can be seen in many societies such as Italy and Germany in World War II, and to some extent The Soviet Union. In each of these cases the ruling party or man used Nietzsche s beliefs to rationalize their rampant wars, hatred, and genocide. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eradication programs have mostly been done on islands and have used a variety of methods to eradicate cat populations. This allows for venerable/sensitive species to recover in often fragile and unique environments. Nogales et al, (2004) noted that cats have been eradicated from 48 islands, the methods used were hunting, trapping, poisoning, and the use of viral disease. Shooting is target specific and generally humane, but requires alot of time and labour, and is most suited to smaller areas such as islands (Sharp Saunders, 2005). Even though this concentration camp was more lenient on the rules regarding cultural expression, the Jews transported there quickly found that it was still part of Hitler s final solution of the Jewish question. Starting in June of 1940, the Nazis took control over Bohemia and Moravia, regions close to the fortress town of Terezín, Czechoslovakia. Upon seeing the land, Terezín was seen to have a purpose for the Germans that were threefold. One of them was to build a holding point for most of the deported Jews. Once these bonds that serve to connect the 2 strands of the DNA double helix are displaced, bacterial replication and cell viability are effectively reduced. Mammalian cells have approximately 100 times more DNA than bacterial cells. Thus, the ratio of inhibitory concentrations of silver sulfadiazine to bacterial DNA is high enough to prevent bacterial division. However, the resulting ratio of silver sulfadiazine to epithelial DNA is sufficiently low that epithelial cell regeneration is not impaired. As silver sulfadiazine (AgSd) is relatively insoluble it reacts very slowly with the chloride components of tissue exudates to form silver chloride (AgCl) and sodium sulfadiazine (NaSd). Before starting organizational change, ask yourself: What do we want to achieve with this change, why, and how will we know that the change has been achieved? Who is affected by this change, and how will they react to it? How much of this change can we achieve ourselves, and what parts of the change do we need help with?
