Analysis Of Pushing Thirty By Jody Paulsen
According to Elle magazine (February 22, 2017), Jody Paulsen describes his artwork as a millennial
approach to becoming an adult , hence the name of his outstanding exhibition, Pushing Thirty . His
unique artwork of text, colour, pattern, imagery and texture, embodies a perfect balance between
optimism versus reality. One can view his incredible work at the SMAC gallery in the heart of Cape
Town s artistic Woodstock area. The artist and fashion designer, Jody Paulsen, perfectly controls how
he expresses his not so typical coming of age story, through the use of bold statements, challenging
stereotypes, vibrant colour and his main use of the unconventional material, felt, provides a clear and
common thread that runs through the exhibition. Furthermore, Jody makes use of a variety of
conceptualised images and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It shows a sense of beauty and freedom with an endless potential of what one can become. However, I
did find the photographic work a bit disheartening as I feel it was a summary of Paulsen s work which
in reality has a much more deeper and personal meaning. It was more of an overview, which
consequently does not show the individual style of the artwork. In conclusion, his works give off a
bold, dramatic statement of socio political and cultural issues that has personal meaning, identity and
freedom, but consequently, may also be viewed to some as an IN YOUR FACE exaggeration. This
however, does not undermine Jody s works and his ability to put himself out there through his art.
Thus the exhibition, Pushing Thirty is all about the issues and experiences in Jody s life that has
shaped who he is today. He is the subject of his artwork. For that reason he can freely express himself
through is magnificent pieces that leaves a long lasting explosion of an

The Concept of Energy Intake and Expenditure in Sports...
Task 2 Describe (P3) or explain (M1) the concept of energy intake and expenditure in sports
performance.
The concept of energy intake and expenditure refers to the amount of calories per day that an
individual consumes, and is the chemical energy in foods which can be metabolized to produce energy
available to the body. As stated before energy is obtained from the foods we eat and is used to support
an individual s Basal Metabolic Rate, energy is measured in calories or joules as both units are very
small they are multiplied by 1,000 and referred to as kilocalories. Different foods provide us with
different amounts of energy, and the potential fuel sources available to exercising muscles are fats 1

The energy cost of football is estimated as being 16.4kcal per minute amounting to 1480 kcal for a 90
minute match. This therefore highlights that the individual needs post match fluid and food intake in
order to replace lost energy.
Task 3 Describe (P4), explain (M2) or analyse (D1) the importance of energy balance and their effect
on sports performance.
Energy is expended in a number of different ways such as the stated above; resting metabolic rate,
thermic effect of activity, thermic effect of feeding and adaptive thermogenesis. An individual s
energy balance is the balance of calories consumed through eating and drinking compared to calories
burned through physical activity, what an individual drinks and eat is energy in. what an individual
burns though physical activity is energy out. Body weight is maintained and stable in the state of
energy balance, the chemical bonds of carbohydrates, proteins and fats in food contain chemical
energy which is then transformed in the human body in multiple metabolic processes to cellular
energy, heat or stored energy. An individual s burns a certain number of calories just by breathing air
and digested food. They also burn a certain number of calories through their daily routine, an
important part of maintaining energy balance is the amount of physical activity an

Harry Lavender Characters
Day s, The Life and Crimes of Harry Lavender , powerfully engages with the responder and
effectively subverts the crime fiction genre to create a new era of crime fiction. Day critics modern
society through the protagonistic voices of Claudia Valentine and Harry Lavender to challenge the
audience s perception of what crime and criminality is. Day uses the subversion of female characters
to challenge and question our perceptions of gender stereotypes. Day also effectively synthesises the
insight that the dynamic personality of criminals, like Sydney, is evolving. Ultimately, The Life and
Crimes of Harry Lavender highlights these fundamental ideas to examine the impact of the narrative
voices in order to gain insight into crime fiction and to address traditional conventions of modern
society.

Claudia Valentine is a character that is an enigmatic and codified by the crime fiction genre. She is
cleverly introduced in such a manner which is stereotypical of the traditional hard boiled detective
with the alcohol, cigarettes and blonde in the bed. These crime fiction conventions re contextualized
her in terms of her gender so to explore a more sinister aspect of humanity and the qualities that she
possesses. Within Claudia, Day has created a strong and independent woman, creating a new voice for
females in crime fiction. This can be seen in the encounters between Claudia and Dr. Angell, where
she contrasts her personalities. In contrast to this, Day uses the characterization of Harry to understand
his motives in becoming a major technological criminal. Through the monologues of Harry
experiencing his mother being brutally murdered by the Nazis, the schoolyard bullies and the
alienation that he encountered when being a refugee; Harry physiologically shifts towards

Pre-Paid Legal Services
9 100 037 REV: JULY 2, 2003 PAUL HEALY Pre Paid Legal Services, Inc. Pre Paid Legal plans are
designed to help middle income Americans have affordable access to quality legal assistance. Pre Paid
Legal Services Corporate Vision Harland C. Stonecipher founded the Pre Paid Legal Services, Inc.

PPLS sold legal expense insurance that provided for partial payment of legal fees in connection with

Premiums were typically paid on a monthly basis either by automatic charges to the member s credit

noncancelable except for fraud, nonpayment of premiums, or upon written request by a member. The
annual membership persistency rate in 1998 was high; approximately 75% of members at the
beginning of the year and new members during the year continued to be enrolled in the program at the
end of the year. At March 31 1999, PPLS had 648,475 active members, and membership had been
increasing at about 40% per year. PPLS marketed its memberships through a multi level program that
encouraged buyers to become salespeople. Members that sought to become sales associates paid the
company a fee, typically $65, to cover the cost of training materials, training meetings, and home
office support services. Registered sales associates sold the company s services to their friends and
business associates. The most successful even recruited and developed their own sales force. In 1998
PPLS generated 76% of its annual sales from the roughly 150,000 members registered as sales
associates. The remaining 24% of sales were generated through arrangements with insurance and
service companies with established sales forces, such as CNA and Primerica Financial Services. Sales
associates were compensated on a commission basis (see Exhibit 3). Prior to 1995, associates that

Ronald Reagan Rhetorical Analysis Essay
When one thinks about the United States of America, images of our proud red, white, and blue flag,
equal opportunity, and freedom should flit through the mind. When one thinks about American
tragedy, devastating images of the September 11th attacks and the death of a beloved president should
call tears to the eye. When one thinks about the tragic death of former president Ronald Reagan, both
of the aforementioned actions occur; he was the embodiment of what America stands for and his death
called many tears to the eyes of Americans all over. In her eulogy honoring Ronald Reagan, Margaret
Thatcher remembers her friend and urges his mourners to remember and honor him as the great man
he proved himself to be. She uses strong examples of ethos ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In this opening sentence, she repeats the word great three times to emphasize Reagan s tremendously
positive influence on the world. Then, however, she changes to the adjective dear when describing
how she lost him as her close friend. This abrupt transition to a much more intimate and sentimental
dear serves as a powerful example of both ethos and pathos. With this singular word, Thatcher reveals
to her audience that, not only were she and Reagan political allies, they were true friends with a
relationship separate from work. This not only serves to win her sympathy from her already emotional
auditors, it grants her the credibility to deliver his eulogy; she proves that yes, she has the ability to
speak about his life from a personal, meaningful perspective. Another clear instance of Thatcher s
ethical appeal is evident in, As Prime Minister, I worked closely... for eight of the most important
years... of our lives, (Thatcher, lines 54 56). In this statement, she cites how she knew Reagan as well
as why their relationship was important from a political standpoint. This acknowledgment of their
professional relationship is important because it shows that their friendship was multidimensional and
had several layers all of which Thatcher is able to draw upon to deliver his

What If Daniel Sokol Summary
In the chapter section on What if... , by Daniel Sokol, he made a questioning statement: Is there a
difference between killing someone and letting them die? Are consequences all that matter, or are
there some things we should never do, whatever the outcome? Sokol s purpose was to entertain and to
inform readers on how people react to life and death scenarios. Sokol discussed if there was a
difference between killing someone and letting them die. The experiments are to test their theories of
what someone would do in real life situations. They used four different experiments to equal a large
group. The scenarios in this section are about violinist perhaps dying, runaway trolley cars, and being
stuck in a cave. The author explains their purpose by testing experiments to test their theories of

Their experiment was a success, but further researches needs to be conducted to make sure the
vaccines are easier to be distributed to other countries around the world. The potato is not an ideal
vehicle for vaccines, since it is not a common food in many developing countries and may lose its
effectiveness when cooked (Williams, 2002).
Field Trials Researchers utilizing the transgenic plants to produce vaccine for us humans are the main
purpose of molecular farming. Numerous transgenic plant vaccines are being created and field tested
each and every day. Several test of the hepatitis B vaccine in the potato were hampered by the low
levels of antigen produced in the plant, and by the safety requirement that only individuals previously
immunized with injected vaccine should be exposed to the plant vaccine (Cummins, 2011). In this
case, the oral vaccine preparations will induce immune tolerance , thereby making the individual
susceptible to the hepatitis B virus (Cummins, 2011). When experimenting with a transgenic potato,
the process started out as inserting with genes for cholera, E.coli antigens and rotavirus enterotoxin.
Adult mice were found to produce antibodies to the toxins after feeding on the transgenic potatoes
(Cummins, 2011). Neonate mice passively immunized by suckling from mice fed transgenic potatoes

Louise Erdrich s Love Medicine
Although I ve only read the first couple chapters of Louise Erdrich s novel Love Medicine, I have
already realized that I am going to like this book. My only dislike thus far is that her detailed and
figurative writing style can cause confusion at times, for example when she switches from character to
character or includes various names every other paragraph. I find myself at times having to read
certain lines again so I can actually understand what is going on or who is speaking. Also, in chapter
two there are many characters, which can make it somewhat difficult to know and remember who is
who within the storyline. Although at times her choice of words or the plot can confuse me, I took an

Odysseus Heroic Qualities
A man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities is the
dictionary definition of a hero, but the qualities that make one a hero can differ drastically. In the
Odyssey, Odysseus plays the role of the heroic character. He is brave, able to overcome fear,
intelligent, cunning, and much more. Many characters in the Iliad could be perceived as the hero.
Personally, I think it was Patrocolus who took on that role, who was willing to sacrifice himself for the
better of his people. Heroes in the modern day are everywhere, but with much less recognition than
those in the Odyssey and Iliad. In addition to that, they don t have to take a 10 year journey facing sea
monsters and cyclops just to get home to be considered a hero. ... Show more content on

honesty, outweigh his not so heroic ones. Odysseus is brave because of the way he overcame a fear of

Odysseus crew into swine, or pigs. Odysseus eventually persuades her to turn his crew back into men;
but when she does so, they were under a trance that she would only diminish if Odysseus went to the
Underworld. Odysseus was terrified, to say the least, but he chose to face his fear for the welfare of
his crew. This also made Odysseus selfless, which is a very important characteristic of a

Blepharitis Research Paper
Eyelashes are tiny hairs located on the upper and lower human eyelids. Each eyelid tends to be in the
form of layers which might amount to 4 5 layers of the eyelid. They serve an important purpose of
securing the eyes from direct exposure to dust. They are rooted deep in to eyelid. Any sort of threat to
the eyes is automatically detected and responded by the contraction of muscles that are present inside
the eyelids. In the fractions of seconds all of this process gets executed. The eyelashes act as shields
every time the eye flickers. A grease type of substance is emitted from internal sebaceous organs when
a flicker occurs. The eyes are then filled with this substance. The organs which carry the tears
surround the edges confining the eyelids. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Blepharitis: Symptoms of blepharitis incorporate aggravation of the real part of the eyelids, with
crusting or scales at cover edges. Eyelids are generally red, thickened, blazing, and sore and feel
bothersome, and might be stuck together in the mornings. Blepharitis can be brought about by a
bacterial disease (with the outside layers being hard to evacuate) or because of dermatitis (with the
scales all the more effectively expelled). Your eyes might be sensitive to light. The condition is
regularly perpetual (durable) and has a tendency to be connected with dandruff or potentially dry eye.

A Brief Note On The Integrated Business Operations
Task 1
1.1
Integrated business operations: A business which is a combination of two or more business operations
but runs as a single business unit. Bose speakers is one of its examples
Single product or service operations: Single product operations focus on a single service operation,
having their targets clear and set, they are supposed to have more profits than integrated business
operations, one of its example is Hallenstein Brothers.
Manufacturing and wholesale: These kind of franchisees sell the basic product to wholesalers and
wholesalers sell it to the retailers or sometimes to the customers as well, Coca Cola is a best suited
example for it.
Manufacturing and retail: Franchisees are given the right to sell the product of main franchisor, rules
are set and both the manufacturer and retailer have to abide to these rules. Adidas is one of its
examples.
Wholesale and retail: Small retailers buy the products from wholesalers to sell these products in their
shops. Dairy shops are best suited examples for this kind of franchisee.
Retail Product: Franchisees offering tangible goods made by their main franchisor.
Retail Service: Franchisees in order to increase their profit introduce some new services which help

Atlantic Revolution Effects
Atlantic Revolution consisted of the North American Revolution, the French revolution, the Haitian
Revolution, and the Spanish American Revolution. The French Revolution was one of the eras of great
disruption through Europe. French Revolution was closely connected with North American
Revolution. Thousands of French soldiers provided assistance to the American colonies. When the
French soldiers returned home, they were full of republican enthusiasm. After helping the American
Colonies, France was on the edge of bankruptcy and had long pursued reforms that would renovate the
tax system and make it more justifiable. This new system reduced the incomes of the ordinary men
and women, but they raised the price of bread. In result of this there was a rapid increase of
unemployment. Peasants were exposed to a variety of hated fees forced by their landlords, taxes,
duties to the Church, and were required to work without pay on the public roads. These conflicts, in

Difference Between Western And Western Animation
Difference between Western animation and Eastern Europe Animation
Western use animation cartoon for the most advertising and press. Animated cartoons allowed the

Dred Scott V. Sandford Civil Rights Case
Civil Rights For countless amounts of years, Americans have fought a battle against discrimination.
Discrimination goes all the way back to the time of slavery. There are several important civil rights
cases and laws that have changed the United States forever. Civil rights can be defined as, [t]he
freedom to participate in the full life of the community to vote, use public facilities, and exercise equal
opportunity (Morone and Kersh 115). Also, unlike civil liberties, which limits government action,
[c]ivil rights require government action to help secure individual rights... (Morone and Kersh 115).

To begin with, just because a law is a law, that does not immediately make it right. There are many
cases throughout history that this is evident. One example of this is prevalent in the case of Dred Scott
v. Sandford. Before this case, in 1820, the government made an agreement called the Missouri
Compromise, which drew a line through the Louisiana Territory... All new states and territories north
of the line except Missouri would be free; everything south of the line would be open to slavery
(Morone and Kersh 153). Well, when Dred Scott, a slave, sued for freedom his argument was ... he
had been taken to live in a free territory before returning to Missouri and that, as a result, he should be
free (Morone and Kersh 153). Although in my opinion his argument was valid, it was ruled that he
could not be set free due to the fact that neither the territories nor the federal government could
confine slavery. In this civil rights case, slavery was just reinforced and the government failed to
protect individuals. Soon after this case, President Abraham Lincoln is elected into office and he
completely changes the definition of freedom in America. Southern states were furious and started to
withdrawal from the States and the Civil War explodes. When the northern

Abstract
Fault tolerance is the characteristic of a system that tolerates the class of failures. It will analysis the
performance and enables a system to continue its intended operation, possibly at a reduced level,
rather than failing completely, when some part of the system fails. The system as a whole is not
stopped due to problems either in the hardware or the software. [1][2] Fault tolerance is the ability for
software to detect and recover from a fault that is happening or has already happened in either the
software or hardware in the system in which the software is running in order to provide service in
accordance with the specification. [3]Fault tolerance is not a solution unto itself however, and it is
important to realize that software fault tolerance is just one piece necessary to create the next
generation of systems. A highly fault tolerance system might continue at the same level of
performance even though one or more components have failed. For example, a building with a backup
electrical generator will provide the same voltage to wall outlets even if the grid power fails [4].

has a hamartia, or tragic flaw. More often than not that tragic flaw is excessive pride, or a hubris. The
character then goes through a peripeteia, which is a twist where the character realizes that things will
not turn out the way he expected. Finally, the character has an anagnorisis, which is their epiphany
that makes them realize their hamartia (Cap, Creon as a Tragic Character in Antigone ). The tragic
hero characteristics in Creon are clearly shown when he speaks with blind prophet, Teiresias. The
character interaction between Creon and Teiresias helps develop Creon as a tragic hero in Antigone.
Being the leader of Thebes, Creon wants order and loyalty to the city. After the death of Eteocles and
Polyneices, Creon makes it known that anyone who acts against the city is an enemy. Creon decides
that Polyneices would not receive a burial because he sees him as a traitor. Not burying the dead is
uncommon for many since it went against religious beliefs. Antigone saw the wrong that was being
done, as did other citizens. Creon says that for quite a while some people in the

The Physics Of Infrared Radiation
A vibration can result in an absorption peak of infrared radiation, only if there is a change in the dipole
moment of the molecule. The larger this change, the more intense will be the absorption band.
Furthermore, the electron polarity vectors in the covalent bond should not cancel out i.e the covalent
bonds must be asymmetric. Asymmetrical bonds carry a net polarity vector and show absorption
peaks; bonds that are centered along the plane of symmetry cancel out their polarity vectors upon
stretching and there is no net change in dipole moment. Such molecules are known to be infrared
inactive. An infrared spectrum is the plot of absorbance (or % transmission) against the wavenumber
(cm 1) (Rehman et al., 2012). Wavenumber is defined as number of waves in a length of one
centimeter and is a commonly used unit for representing spectral regions. Wavenumber is linear with
energy and is expressed with the following equation.Significant parts of the spectrum are the regions
where the molecule absorbs the infrared energy. These are shown as characteristic absorption peaks. A
molecule can only absorb radiation when the incoming infrared radiation is of the same frequency as
one of the fundamental modes of vibration of the molecule (Stuart and Barbara, 2004). The modes of
vibration usually encountered include bending, stretching, wagging and out of plane vibrations. These
molecular vibrations result in changes in dipole moments of the molecular groups and the resulting

Biography Of Baruch Spinoza s Theory Of Human Emotions,...
At the age of 20, Baruch Spinoza was banned from the Synagog, and from Amsterdam for his radical
believes. His masterpiece, The Ethics, can basically be considered as his guide for humans to achieve
absolute tranquility. His purpose is psychotherapy. It is his directory to living the right way and being
happy and content. He believes that in order to do so, one must truly understand the nature of two
major phenomenas. He, by breaking his book into five different parts, explains the true and absolute
nature of God or Nature, and the human nature. And thus, by truly studying the metaphysics of things,
one can use his therapy of the soul, which plays off of his theory of human emotions, in order to be
able to operate on the contents of his/her mind, and the emotions one produces. In such a way, humans
can finally find virtue and salvation.
The first step of the path to salvation, according to Spinoza, consists of humans changing the way they
understand God. To the author, God means something completely different than what humans
naturally believe. To Spinoza, God is Nature. God is everything. God is the one and only substance,
and everything else is merely an attribute or a modification of that substance. As Spinoza says: God,
or substance, consisting of infinite attributes, of which each expresses eternal and infinite essentiality,
necessarily exists . God is the ultimate reality outside of which nothing can be or be conceived. As
reported by Baruch: God s existence,

Incense are made of all natural materials used for direct burning. Today, and in history, incense are
known to be ritualistic and needed to complete various traditions. Based on my own religion, Catholic
churches often use incense to prepare for prayers and rituals. Incense are used in Catholic churches
mainly during prayers for smell, and for the use of smoke. The aroma of incense are used to
communicate with God, by sending good wishes, and prayers through its rich fragrance.
Conflict Theorists
Many people who aren t religious believe incense are not necessarily needed to complete rituals or

Egyptian Mummification Research Paper
Ancient Egyptian Mummification and Life after Death
Omnipresent in Egyptian life, religion was the basis of Ancient Egyptian civilization. A crucial feature
and driving force of Ancient Egyptian religion was the belief in life after death, or the afterlife. The
other world offered the same pleasures as those enjoyed on earth: friends, servants, fishing, hunting,
entertainment, and good food. It was presumed that death was simply a temporary interruption of life
and that eternal life was therefore attainable; eternal life could be ensured by preserving the dead
body. Egyptians believed that the body was the house for the soul and that the spirit could only live on
if the body was preserved forever. If the body was lost, so too was the spirit. Mummification, the
process by which the dead body is preserved, arose in response to the yearning of an eternal life.
Ancient Egyptian mummification was not simply the preservation of the body as it had been in life,
but it was also an opportunity to transform the dead body into a new eternal body, a perfect image of
the deceased. Through mummification to preserve the dead, Ancient ... Show more content on

The earliest ancient Egyptians buried their dead in small pits in the desert sand. The heat and dryness
of the sand dehydrated the bodies quickly, creating lifelike and natural mummies. The arid, desert
conditions benefited the poor, who could not afford the elaborate burial preparations available to the
elite. Wealthier Egyptians began to bury their dead in stone tombs and, as a result, developed the
process of mummification. Mummification was the way in which the Egyptians attempted to control
the decomposition of the flesh and preserve the body. It was considered vital to one s afterlife and was
an important process necessary for immortal existence. The mummified body provided a place for a
person s ba, or spirit to return to the body after

The Toleration In Colonial America
returned with a group of hired soldiers from Virginia and restored order. Governor Calvert died soon
after in 1647. From his death bed, Calvert appointed Thomas Greene to replace him as governor and
Margaret Brent the executor of his estate.
The appointment of a woman executor was unusual, but Margaret Brent was an exceptional woman.
The Brents were a wealthy Catholic English family with close ties to the Calverts. When Margaret
arrived in Maryland in 1638 accompanied by her sister Mary and two brothers, she was better off than
most immigrants. The Brents came to Maryland for religious freedom and economic opportunity.

Ferries and bridges were built at the river crossings.
In the 1650 s, Thomas Ringgold, Thomas South, Thomas Hynson, and Joseph Wickes moved across
Kent Narrows and up the Chester River. Patents were granted on Eastern Neck, Grays Inn Creek, and
Langford Creek. The formation of present day Kent County had begun.
In 1695, Kent Island was made part of Talbot County, and in 1706 became part of the newly formed
Queen Anne s County.
Kent Island s economy gradually expanded from trading post to cultivation of tobacco and corn.
Natural population growth and new transportation routes increased the population of Kent Island. In
the 19th century, new ferry routes, such as the Annapolis Rock Hall ferry, the Annapolis Matapeake

operated. During this time, travel agent fees were going through the roof and reserving an airline
ticket was a complicated, drawn out process. To counter this, Southwest implemented its own
reservation system tailored to their own needs, which also included the industry s first paperless
ticketing system; but this wasn t the end of IT innovation from Southwest Airlines. In 1995,
Southwest.com was launched, and the online ticketing and reservation system was launched in 1996.
Soon thereafter, Southwest Airlines ticket sales were primarily coming from their online reservation
system (70%). By the late 90 s, Southwest.com was the most visited airline website [4]. By the start of
the millennium, Southwest airlines had already mastered another IT milestone which is still in use to
this very day: allowing the passenger to print their own boarding vouchers and allowing passengers to
self check in on their own computer even before arriving at the airport [4]! By implementing these two
features on the Southwest website, the airline was able to reduce the number of customer service
agents at check in counters and allowed customers to spend minimal time waiting at an airport [2].
This increases both passenger and staff efficiency, making the mundane task of waiting around at an
airport virtually a thing of the past.
Industry Analysis: Applying the Porter model to Southwest Airlines, we can see airline that is

The Effects Of Obesity On The American Population
Obesity has substantially increased in the American population, affecting both adults and children.
According to the Mayo Clinic, the definition of obesity is defined as a condition of increased body
weight that is caused by an excessive accumulation of fat. Many factors contribute to weight gain such
as the two important ones, poor diet and physical inactivity. As people are exposed to high fat foods
and have very low physical activity, it s so easy for that person to become overweight or obese. As in
today s society children tend to overeat, many changes in a child s life are the reason why there is an
increase in overeating. The place where children should be fed healthy and should influence them to
eat healthy is actually where the problem starts. School cafeterias have been known to serve food with
large fat content and low nutrition. School cafeterias even supply students with soda and candy
machines (Kempster, 2004). According to a study done by King et al. (1999) has shown that fruits and
raw vegetables given in school cafeterias has decreased substantially. Instead they provide unhealthy
meals for these children like, pizza, tater tots, and many other numerous high level fat foods. At school
children should have the access to eat healthy, however they are exposed to fast food choices
everyday, making it difficult to support healthy eating (Kuntzman, 2004). The lack of physical activity
is another major factor in the cause of childhood obesity. Due to the increase

Tanglewood Case Study-Manager Retention

mission, and the organizational culture that Tanglewood values. As the organization continues to
exponentially grow; their staffing and recruitment processes and procedures have not been integrated
to focus on retention management. This paper will examine the relationship between managerial
performance and turnover, why managers leave, additional data that the organization should utilize,
equal employment practices, and recommendations for strategic retention strategies for managerial
positions.

However, there are other alternatives that the organization could also explore, such as, loyalty
bonuses, employee recreation, and tuition reimbursement.
Loyalty bonuses should be directly linked to manager performance to recognize and encourage
employees to strive to run their operations effectively, efficiently, and collaboratively. Extrinsic
rewards could take many forms to include gym memberships, mini vacations, and they should also be
tailored to the employee to be more meaningful. Reimbursement for educational degrees and
certifications that are industry related conveys to managers that Tanglewood cares about investing in
their careers. Intrinsic rewards allow the organization to make a difference in retention efforts; and are
a valuable tool that can be utilized in employee motivation. Providing managers with a sense of
meaning, choice, competence, and progress are all ways to provide intrinsic rewards and motivation.
Typically, flexible working arrangements do not cost the organization any out of pocket expense and it
allows employees to have a better work and life balance. Tanglewood should establish programs, such
as, manager of the month to communicate wide spread recognition for employees who crave external
recognition. Intrinsic rewards are an inexpensive tool that Tanglewood should incorporate into their
retention efforts.
Recommendations
Tanglewood should critically assess the need of optimizing their

Radish Seed Lab Report
In generalization, there are a multitude of factors that could potentially influence the germination of a
radish seed. This lab thoroughly exhibits the effect of water amounts on the germination of a radish
seed. There is indeed an in depth science behind the projected results, and overall of the effects water
has on the germination of radish seeds, and the growth of plants in particular. Radishes themselves are
moisture loving plants; therefore, it is significant that they receive an adequate amount of water,
allowing the soil to be moist, but not overly saturated (Biology Coach, 2015). In general, water is
significant for the health of a plant in the way it transports important nutrients throughout the plant.
From this point, nutrients are drawn from the soil and used by the plant. Seed germination itself is
defined as the process where the seed sprout for growing, and future development into a plant. In
order to germinate, the seed must have its essential needs met until it is capable of doing so: water,
temperature, and sun. Therefore, during its early stages of growth, the seed will rely upon the food
supplies stores within it, until it is large enough for its own leaves to begin making food through
photosynthesis (Biology of Plants, 2016). Initially, the process of germination begins with the
absorption of water y there seed, therefore, this absorption of water then activates an enzyme that

This then not only prevents the germination of the seed; however, if the plant were to initially

  • 2. Analysis Of Pushing Thirty By Jody Paulsen According to Elle magazine (February 22, 2017), Jody Paulsen describes his artwork as a millennial approach to becoming an adult , hence the name of his outstanding exhibition, Pushing Thirty . His unique artwork of text, colour, pattern, imagery and texture, embodies a perfect balance between optimism versus reality. One can view his incredible work at the SMAC gallery in the heart of Cape Town s artistic Woodstock area. The artist and fashion designer, Jody Paulsen, perfectly controls how he expresses his not so typical coming of age story, through the use of bold statements, challenging stereotypes, vibrant colour and his main use of the unconventional material, felt, provides a clear and common thread that runs through the exhibition. Furthermore, Jody makes use of a variety of conceptualised images and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It shows a sense of beauty and freedom with an endless potential of what one can become. However, I did find the photographic work a bit disheartening as I feel it was a summary of Paulsen s work which in reality has a much more deeper and personal meaning. It was more of an overview, which consequently does not show the individual style of the artwork. In conclusion, his works give off a bold, dramatic statement of socio political and cultural issues that has personal meaning, identity and freedom, but consequently, may also be viewed to some as an IN YOUR FACE exaggeration. This however, does not undermine Jody s works and his ability to put himself out there through his art. Thus the exhibition, Pushing Thirty is all about the issues and experiences in Jody s life that has shaped who he is today. He is the subject of his artwork. For that reason he can freely express himself through is magnificent pieces that leaves a long lasting explosion of an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She is cleverly introduced in such a manner which is stereotypical of the traditional hard boiled detective with the alcohol, cigarettes and blonde in the bed. These crime fiction conventions re contextualized her in terms of her gender so to explore a more sinister aspect of humanity and the qualities that she possesses. Within Claudia, Day has created a strong and independent woman, creating a new voice for females in crime fiction. This can be seen in the encounters between Claudia and Dr. Angell, where she contrasts her personalities. • 6. Ronald Reagan Rhetorical Analysis Essay When one thinks about the United States of America, images of our proud red, white, and blue flag, equal opportunity, and freedom should flit through the mind. When one thinks about American tragedy, devastating images of the September 11th attacks and the death of a beloved president should call tears to the eye. When one thinks about the tragic death of former president Ronald Reagan, both of the aforementioned actions occur; he was the embodiment of what America stands for and his death called many tears to the eyes of Americans all over. She uses strong examples of ethos ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this opening sentence, she repeats the word great three times to emphasize Reagan s tremendously positive influence on the world. Then, however, she changes to the adjective dear when describing how she lost him as her close friend. This abrupt transition to a much more intimate and sentimental dear serves as a powerful example of both ethos and pathos. With this singular word, Thatcher reveals to her audience that, not only were she and Reagan political allies, they were true friends with a relationship separate from work. This not only serves to win her sympathy from her already emotional auditors, it grants her the credibility to deliver his eulogy; she proves that yes, she has the ability to speak about his life from a personal, meaningful perspective. Another clear instance of Thatcher s ethical appeal is evident in, As Prime Minister, I worked closely... for eight of the most important years... of our lives, (Thatcher, lines 54 56). In this statement, she cites how she knew Reagan as well as why their relationship was important from a political standpoint. This acknowledgment of their professional relationship is important because it shows that their friendship was multidimensional and had several layers all of which Thatcher is able to draw upon to deliver his ... Eventually people with HBV will encounter in liver damage in the future. This disease occurs in most countries in Asia and Africa. There are some medications that are available viral treatment therapies and as well as vaccine shots. Their experiment was a success, but further researches needs to be conducted to make sure the vaccines are easier to be distributed to other countries around the world. The potato is not an ideal vehicle for vaccines, since it is not a common food in many developing countries and may lose its effectiveness when cooked (Williams, 2002). Field Trials Researchers utilizing the transgenic plants to produce vaccine for us humans are the main purpose of molecular farming. Numerous transgenic plant vaccines are being created and field tested each and every day. Several test of the hepatitis B vaccine in the potato were hampered by the low levels of antigen produced in the plant, and by the safety requirement that only individuals previously immunized with injected vaccine should be exposed to the plant vaccine (Cummins, 2011). In this case, the oral vaccine preparations will induce immune tolerance , thereby making the individual susceptible to the hepatitis B virus (Cummins, 2011). When experimenting with a transgenic potato, the process started out as inserting with genes for cholera, E.coli antigens and rotavirus enterotoxin. Adult mice were found to produce antibodies to the toxins after feeding on the transgenic potatoes (Cummins, 2011). Odysseus Heroic Qualities A man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities is the dictionary definition of a hero, but the qualities that make one a hero can differ drastically. In the Odyssey, Odysseus plays the role of the heroic character. He is brave, able to overcome fear, intelligent, cunning, and much more. Many characters in the Iliad could be perceived as the hero. Personally, I think it was Patrocolus who took on that role, who was willing to sacrifice himself for the better of his people. Odysseus eventually persuades her to turn his crew back into men; but when she does so, they were under a trance that she would only diminish if Odysseus went to the Underworld. They serve an important purpose of securing the eyes from direct exposure to dust. They are rooted deep in to eyelid. Any sort of threat to the eyes is automatically detected and responded by the contraction of muscles that are present inside the eyelids. In the fractions of seconds all of this process gets executed. The eyelashes act as shields every time the eye flickers. By analyzing Creon, one could see that he is considered a tragic hero in this play. The characteristics a person must have to be a tragic hero is he has a hamartia, or tragic flaw. More often than not that tragic flaw is excessive pride, or a hubris. The character then goes through a peripeteia, which is a twist where the character realizes that things will not turn out the way he expected. Finally, the character has an anagnorisis, which is their epiphany that makes them realize their hamartia (Cap, Creon as a Tragic Character in Antigone ). The larger this change, the more intense will be the absorption band. Furthermore, the electron polarity vectors in the covalent bond should not cancel out i.e the covalent bonds must be asymmetric. Asymmetrical bonds carry a net polarity vector and show absorption peaks; bonds that are centered along the plane of symmetry cancel out their polarity vectors upon stretching and there is no net change in dipole moment. Such molecules are known to be infrared inactive. An infrared spectrum is the plot of absorbance (or % transmission) against the wavenumber (cm 1) (Rehman et al., 2012). Wavenumber is defined as number of waves in a length of one centimeter and is a commonly used unit for representing spectral regions. Wavenumber is linear with energy and is expressed with the following equation.Significant parts of the spectrum are the regions where the molecule absorbs the infrared energy. These are shown as characteristic absorption peaks. A molecule can only absorb radiation when the incoming infrared radiation is of the same frequency as one of the fundamental modes of vibration of the molecule (Stuart and Barbara, 2004). The modes of vibration usually encountered include bending, stretching, wagging and out of plane vibrations. His masterpiece, The Ethics, can basically be considered as his guide for humans to achieve absolute tranquility. His purpose is psychotherapy. It is his directory to living the right way and being happy and content. He believes that in order to do so, one must truly understand the nature of two major phenomenas. He, by breaking his book into five different parts, explains the true and absolute nature of God or Nature, and the human nature. And thus, by truly studying the metaphysics of things, one can use his therapy of the soul, which plays off of his theory of human emotions, in order to be able to operate on the contents of his/her mind, and the emotions one produces. In such a way, humans can finally find virtue and salvation. The first step of the path to salvation, according to Spinoza, consists of humans changing the way they understand God. To the author, God means something completely different than what humans naturally believe. To Spinoza, God is Nature. God is everything. God is the one and only substance, and everything else is merely an attribute or a modification of that substance. A crucial feature and driving force of Ancient Egyptian religion was the belief in life after death, or the afterlife. The other world offered the same pleasures as those enjoyed on earth: friends, servants, fishing, hunting, entertainment, and good food. It was presumed that death was simply a temporary interruption of life and that eternal life was therefore attainable; eternal life could be ensured by preserving the dead body. Egyptians believed that the body was the house for the soul and that the spirit could only live on if the body was preserved forever. If the body was lost, so too was the spirit. Mummification, the process by which the dead body is preserved, arose in response to the yearning of an eternal life. As people are exposed to high fat foods and have very low physical activity, it s so easy for that person to become overweight or obese.
