Economies Of Scale And Scope
Economies of Scope:
Economies of scale and scope help producers lower their cost by producing the next unit of output at
lower costs this trend continues until production reaches a level of diseconomies of scale where
production is no longer running as efficient as it should. This tends to increase the barriers to entry for
new competitors as when they enter the market they will experience a higher cost of production. Why?
Solely because they have smaller economies of scale and cannot afford to sell the product at the same
price as other much larger firms. Generally, economies of scale and scope positively affect General
Electric. Since General Electric is one of the biggest conglomerates in the world it has the opportunity
to offer products and services through the same organization. These products might be highly unalike
but due to the wide range of businesses covered by GE the prospect is there. For example, GE, in
order to continue a healthy relationship with valued customers, has allowed the multimillion dollar
purchase of its jet engines to be financed over long periods of time. The catch is that these finance
opportunities are usually done via a leasing arrangement from GE Finance. In recent year GE has
pursued a service strategy when it comes to selling aircraft engines. They sell what they call power by
the hour this enables the private firm to indirectly rent the engine turbines, in return the firm would
award GE with maintenance contracts on the engines. This

Persuasive Essay On The Vietnam War
The question is how can we begin to change what s going on in this country? Let s take a look at the
Vietnam War. It is an illegal and immoral war. President Johnson lies about bringing democracy to
Vietnam. How does one expect to bring democracy to a country that doesn t want it? By sending
hundreds of thousands of troops and bombing their lands to ashes? That is textbook for tyranny and
absolute power. Just because a nation doesn t want to live the same way as you doesn t mean you have
the right to go across the world and kill them. Our country wants to be the ruler of all. And our
marines are its policemen. What can we do to stop it? What can we do to stop the killing of women
and children? We have to power to stand up and say no. The only way to stop this war is if our young
soldiers follow Muhammad Ali and say No, we ain t going to fight your war. Why should we travel
8000 miles to kill someone who never called him a Negro? We should not be obliged to kill someone
we are told to kill. We will not allow them to make us hired killers. If I want to kill someone I decide
who. But to put a gun in a man s hands and send him to kill someone is wrong. It is wrong. How come
this country adamantly fights communism worldwide, but ignores domestic racial oppression? It is
because the United States fails to recognize it. Now there s a rule in Alabama that a political party
must have an animal as their emblem. I helped found the Lowndes County Freedom Organization in
Alabama. We

THE ROLE OF AMERICAN SOLDIERS
The Role of American Soldiers during and after the Second Battle of Marne
In the beginning, World War I was considered to be The European War
During the beginning of the war, Americans had decided to remain neutral. Many Americans felt that
it was not the United States war to fight. Things quickly turned around when America s ability to trade
was compromised (Schultz, 2011). Another situation leading to the US joining the war was the sinking

The two main gases that used were Chlorine gas and mustard gas. These gases caused the enemy to
drown in their own bodily fluid once exposed. Using poisonous gases came with positives and
negatives. The major positive was is caused major problems to the enemy. One of the major negatives
was that some of the troops would be caught in gas that was meant for the enemy (Bull, 2002).
Trench mortars were used to have a safe place to be protected while attacking or resisting an attack
from the other side. Although it was not an actual weapon itself, it was essential in survival of many
troops on both sides.
Army tanks were first introduced during World War I (Bull, 2002). It was used to provide mobility and
protection. Many of the tanks were equipped with machine guns. The tanks were also used in order to
extract injured soldiers from the battle zone.
The living conditions of World War I was horrible for soldiers. There were many different things that
affected the troops. One of the major concerns was the rats that were in the trenches. There were
millions of rats located in the trenches with the soldiers (Duffy, 2009). The rats caused infection and
contaminated lots of the scarce food that the soldiers had (Duffy, 2009).
THE ROLE OF AMERICAN SOLDIERS
Soldiers would also become infected with lice during the war. Lice was a huge problem due to the

The Zika Virus Through Latin America And The Caribbean
The most recent outbreak of the Zika Virus through Latin America and the Caribbean, and its
association with microcephaly in newborns has attracted significant attention from researchers and
health specialists. In 2013 and 2015, large outbreaks of the virus were respectively reported in French
Polynesia and Brazil. In 1947, The Zika virus was first identified in Uganda in Rhesus monkeys. It
was then identified in humans in 1952 in some parts of Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania
The virus, also known as ZIKV, is an arbovirus of the Flaviviridae family, and is closely related to
dengue, yellow fever and Chikungunya viruses (Al Qahtani et al., 2016.); an arbovirus refers to a
group of viruses transmitted by arthropod vectors (MedicineNet.com, 2016). The Zika disease is
caused by the Zika virus that is primarily transmitted through a bite of an infected Aedes mosquito.
Though the incubation period of Zika is not clear, it is estimated to be around 2 7 days after the bite of
an infected Aedes mosquito (World Health Organization, 2016).
Symptomatic signs of the disease are mild fever, skin rashes, malaise, conjunctivitis and muscle and
joint pain (World Health Organization, 2016). Because the virus has mild symptoms and no associated
fatalities, it goes undiagnosed in several cases. In newborns, however, the virus causes neurological
and developmental conditions, including but not limited to Guillain Barre syndrome and
microcephaly. To fully understand the mechanisms of

Being An American
When asked what it means to be an American can be kind of a hard question to answer when being
fortunate enough to have grown up in the United States of America. Being an American, coming from
ancestors who farmed their whole lives, means hardwork and dedication to what you enjoy can bring
happiness out of the hardships of life. An American from this standpoint has three distinctive traits,
opportunity, bravery and hardwork. Opportunities in life are what you make it. America is the land of
the free and the home of the brave. It takes a lot to step out of your comfort zone and seize a moment.
A good motto to live by is life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent what you make
it. So in the grand scheme of things why ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bravery can be looked at in two ways, mental and physical. Mental bravery is the trait to keep pushing
forward, to keep fighting for something greater. It can be very hard to constantly keep conquering the
next battle. Everyone growing up American or even immigrating later on in life may not have had to
endure the same hardships, but living in the greatest country in the history of the world gives you
brash mental high knowing where you are. Bravery when looked at this way shows strength, strength
to have a no quit attitude. This can translates over to physical bravery. Not everyone uses physical
bravery in the same way, but Tegan Griffith from American Creed displayed this in her dedication to
the United States Military. Griffith joined the Marine Corps when she was twenty one and deployed to
Iraq and Afghanistan in a few short years after. Morally it was her duty to put her life on the line so
that America could keep the same principles it was founded on. Studies show that less than one
percent of the United States population currently serves in all five branches of the military. Looking at
the big picture, these men and women are the elite few brave enough to step out of their comfort zone
just like Tegan Griffith. Griffith was not satisfied with being a run of the mill soldier, she strived for
more than that and climbed rank to Sergeant.

Design And Design Of The Hotel
Early in the year of 1976, a corporation known as Crown Center Redevelopment started a project to
design and construct a Hyatt Regency Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri. The firm in charge of the
structural design of the hotel was a corporation from Texas called Gillum Colaco, Incorporated or
G.C.E. International Inc. Throughout the following year, a team of architects and engineers worked
together to formulate an appropriate design for the hotel. The hotel specifications were set and the
project to build the hotel was prepared using standard building codes set by the administration of
Kansas City, Missouri. It was not until the spring of 1978 that the construction for the Hyatt Regency
Hotel finally began. On July 1980, construction of the hotel was finally finished and the hotel was
officially ready and open for business. The hotel soon became famous for its unique and spacious
architecture within. One of the most interesting features of the Hyatt was its lobby. This lobby was
made up of an atrium that incorporated three skywalks that hung from the ceiling of the hotel. The
skywalks were located on the second, third, and fourth floor, and each connected one side of the hotel
to the other. The second skywalk rested under the fourth skywalk while the third was offset a few
meters away from the two other skywalks. Certainly, the design of the hotel was something that the
firm in charge of the hotel structure could be proud of, however, this was a firm of structural engineers

There is no hobby that one understands one of the better things to do. People have the right balance in
their life while enjoying their leisure time. Also, some hobbies feel happier in life. If you re a little bit
miserable, it s a hobby you think it s time to forget someone who s leaving the stupid guy who left

me to share the hardest divorce with me when I get close to someone. At this point, I was sitting on

Eastern Mindfulness
The popularity and effects of mindfulness have spread into clinical practices. Eastern mindfulness, in
fact, seems to effectively treat psychological and physical problems (Chiesa Malinowski, 2011). By
connecting mindfulness to psychological treatments positive emotions such as happiness and
compassion can be fostered. Thus, in the last few centuries, Western clinical and social fields have
slowly been implementing mindfulness into their practices.
Mindfulness evolves from Buddhist practices, and has recently influenced Western practices.
Conceptually, mindfulness refers to the ability of recognizing and understanding one s emotion. This
action allows the individual to become aware of the present moment (Bryant Wildi, 2008). There are
two elements in mindfulness: internal and external. External mindfulness originates from the Western
cognitive and social psychology, which focuses on the self and environment. ... Show more content on

Richard Davidson from the University of Wisconsin has observed the effects of mindfulness on the
brain through functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) (Barker, 2008). From his results, he

cortex. Benefits like this have led mindfulness to be integrated into cognitive therapy. Essentially, to
treat depression, anxiety, and borderline personality disorders (Barker, 2008). This integration has
created a new therapy known as mindfulness based cognitive therapy for depression (MBCT). This
therapy is the product of Segal et al. (2012) who tested mindfulness on patients undergoing depression

Quality Management System For Coventry University Library
The `Know IT` (Knowledge intergration ) quality management system for coventry university library
Introduction
Higher education intuitions have always resisted total quality management, quality management
systems were perceived as incompatible with the academic culture. However, universities have
become market driven, so in order to compete on a global scale and attract international students, they
had to establish quality management systems to set themselves apart from the competition.
It has become explicit that students were choosing universities based on quality; this has a very
subjective definition as quality means different things to people.
One crucial department universities should focus their efforts in implementing a quality ... Show more

Furthermore process improvement methodologies will be explored so the library can become an
organisation that strives for excellence.
Improvements and modifications to the previous quality management system proposed
Before we can design quality management system we must firstly assess the libraries standard of
quality, the previous quality management system that was designed for the library was extremely
vague and generic both in design and principles.
The Lanchester Library at Coventry University opened in September 2000; the aim of the library was
to accommodate changing customer needs. Their mission for the library was, to stay student focused
by offering quality information and services to support, teaching, learning and research.
These goals and aspirations were met for a while, however, is obvious the library is in a desperate
need for an effective quality management system as it seems to buckling under the pressures exerted
by the increased number of students. More than ever it needs to realign the system with student
requirements and ensure that it s actually delivering the services required by the users. The most
essential qualities to the users of the library are: the availability of resources, such as collaborative
work spaces, books, computers, helpful staff ect.

Monetary Policy Rules And Monetary Policies
I. Introduction
Monetary policy rules are a fundamental part of the central bank models and are often refined to
maximize economic welfare, specific to that country. Monetary policy rules are a methodical response
of monetary policy events in the economy. Essentially, it can be thought of as a numeric equation,
which determines the appropriate level for the central bank s policy instrument to be a function of one
or more economic variables that describe the state of the economy. It is imperative that economies
model the reaction of their monetary authorities to changes in their respective economic conditions;
this equation is essentially a reaction function. A reaction function utilizes its instruments to stabilize
inflation and output ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The output gaps for both countries are related to their potential and real Gross Domestic Products
(GDP) in their respective currencies. Likewise for both countries, inflation is related to the Consumer
Price Index (CPI).
Figure 1 depicts a picture of very similar output gaps between the two countries, however the United
States falls at a quicker rate. Therefore, the slope of the U.S. is higher. Canada s economy from the
year 2000 2007 operates above its capacity to withstand the level of production due to excess demand
and begins to fall just after, similar to the United States whom have transitioned between positive and
negative output gaps since the beginning of the decade.
Figure 2 shows inflation rates above 1.5, however they take a drastic fall in 2008 2009, which will
correspond to the recession both economies were facing. Prices in both economies plummeted, the
U.S. falling almost 4% from 2008. Although never really constant, the inflation rates prior to the
recession were rather normal in both countries, however the instability could be a combination of a
reduction in the supply of money in the economy and a lack of regulation of the monetary policy rule.

BRISBANE AT WAR 1939 till 1945 The United States of America entered WW2 in 1941, directing
their campaign from Australia as it started to perceive threats from Japan (2). By 1942, Brisbane had
been set up as the support and training base for the Pacific War (2). Military personal from America
started arriving in Brisbane, with the small number of troops requiring accommodation being dealt
with by leasing rooms in many of the CBDs hotels, guest houses, or by leasing rooms in private
residences (5). This solution was quickly obsolete as troops poured into the city, with approximately

Since the racecourse was an important recreation facility in Brisbane, the Americans were not allowed
to damage the racetracks, therefore the campsite remained a tented city, with only a few temporary pre

to set up camp. It too was handed over with very strict rules that it had to be given back to council
with no damages. The sites close proximity to the CBD and Normanby rail yards made it a prime spot
for the troops, and so a camp site was set up with prefabricated huts spread throughout the park. The
exhibition grounds, The Rocklea State School and showgrounds, Yeronga Park, the Camp site in
Moorooka, and the Chermside Army Camps were all also sites chosen due to their large grounds and
access to tramlines. Chermside in particular, had to accommodate 3,500 militia troops, and so they
were accommodated on a large paddock that was close to Geebung railway station and also had good
road access. The camps had a vast array of tented lines for accommodation, with pre fabricated
buildings housing the camps messes and bathing areas (5). Camp sites sometimes also had a certain
type of demographic allowed inside. This segregation meant that there were sites specifically for
married men, bachelors, African Americans, and Females. Camp Freeman for example was set up to

Comparing Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl and Our Time
Soul Writing in Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl and Our Time
Real writing, soul writing is dangerous; there is an intrinsic, gut churning element of risk within the
process of telling the truth, a risk that yields an adrenaline rush that parallels skydiving and skinny
dipping. The thrill of one s own truth displayed nakedly in little black letters on a white page is scary
and beautiful, both chaining and freeing. The issue for authors, like skydivers, is that after they jump
out of the plane (start writing) the fears don t disappear. The diver author asks herself, Should I really
be doing this... What if my parachute doesn t work... What if I m misunderstood? Harriet Jacobs and
John Edgar Wideman undergo this free fall, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She needs to make it clear that she wasn t weak but just lacked any other option because, while it
seems so clear to us as readers in the 1990s, the same assumptions would probably not have been
made in the 1800s. But Jacobs is not only making this point clear to the reader; she is making it clear
to herself. In writing her story, Jacobs comes to terms with herself.
Wideman similarly employs the use of the question. While struggling with the issue of telling his
brother s story without making it his own, he asks the reader a string of questions: And if I did learn to
listen, wouldn t there be a point at which I d have to take over the telling? Wasn t there something
fundamental in my writing, in my capacity to function, that depended on flight, on escape? Wasn t
another person s skin a hiding place, a place to work out anxiety, to face threats too intimidating to
handle in any other fashion? Wasn t writing about people a way of exploiting them? (722). Wideman,
uncomfortable with his relationship between his brother, the text, and himself, makes his plight
obvious in order to receive affirmation from the reader who is forced to ask herself what she would
do. The question, in this case, is an extremely effective rhetorical device because the answer, being
obviously split, makes the reader feel the same dichotomy with which the writer struggles. The
bombardment of questions delivers the reader into a state of

Changes Within The European General Data Protection Directive
Changes in the European General Data Protection Directive
How to prepare for the new regulations?
Overview requirements
Why is a new regulation required? What does this means for a company?
The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is due to be passed through European
Parliament. It will impact any organisation that gathers, processes and stores personal data. It is
currently a draft regulation, due to come into effect by late 2015 and it s aiming to unify and simplify
data protection regulation for all the member countries of the European Union (EU).
As of Monday 15 June 2015, the Council of Ministers reached a general approach on the general data
protection regulation that establishes rules adapted to the digital era and an agreement on GDPR is
expected by the end of the year. As a Regulation and not a Directive, it will have immediate effect on
all EU Member States after the two year transition period and does not require any enabling
legislation to be passed by governments.
As part of the Data Protection Reform Package, the European Parliament is currently discussing the
Commission Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council on the
protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of
such data. It includes a strict data protection compliance regime with severe penalties of up to 100M

The Game
In just four seconds it was all over. Everything I knew about the game had vanished before me as I

The Fight For Women s Suffrage Movement
The Fight For Women s Suffrage
The Women s Suffrage Movement of the 1920 s worked to grant women the right to vote nationally,
thereby allowing women more political equality. Due to many industrial and social changes during the
early 19th century, many women were involved in social advocacy efforts, which eventually led them
to advocate for their own right to vote and take part in government agencies. Women have been an
integral part of society, working to help those in need, which then fueled a desire to advocate for their
own social and political equality. While many women worked tirelessly for the vote, many obstacles,
factions, and ultimately time would pass in order for women to see the vote on the national level. The
19th Amendment, providing women the right to vote, enable women further their pursuit for full
inclusion in the working of American society.
The Female Advocates
These influential women are most widely known suffragist of their generation and has become icons
of the women suffrage movement. These independent, bold, and intelligent female pioneers paved the
way for so many women different races, and nationalities to come together as one for a common
cause. These women are known today as idols, icons, and activists. Those women that took a stand
when no one else would be: Susan B. Anthony, Alice Paul, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Lucy Stone.
These women believed that all American women, just like men, deserve the rights and responsibilities

Chosen news/article: Government targets 1 crore consumers to give up LPG subsidy PTI Mar 29,
2015, 02.47PM IST, The Economic Times
1. Summary
Under the scheme, LPG cylinders are sold at market rates across the country. Consumers get Rs 558 in
their bank accounts so that they can buy LPG at the market rate of Rs 605 per 14.2 kg cylinder.
There is a strand of thought that in India the incomes of most consumers remain far below the global
average, and, therefore, it is the government s responsibility to pay for those who cannot afford.
Government expects that about one crore well off consumers will surrender the subsidy on cooking
gas after Prime Minister Narendra Modi s appeal to people not to take subsidy if they can afford to
buy LPG at market price.
This money can be used for schools and providing medical facilities. I appeal to people who can
afford LPG cylinders at market price, please do not take subsidised LPG, the Indian Prime Minister
said. 2. Background:
In fiscal year 2014 15 (to date) there have been no significant increases in the retail price of subsidized
LPG. On10th November 2014 it was reported that the per cylinder subsidy would be fixed at Rs 568
from March 2015 an amount Rs 163.36 above the average per cylinder under recovery recorded in
early October 2014.
Though the government has started DBT for LPG subsidy, the document pointed that the bottom 50

Essay on Dr. Heidegger’s Experiment by Nathaniel Hawthorne
The Ethics of Dr. Heidegger s Experiment Have you ever read or heard about an experiment and
wondered whether it was ethical? In order for an experiment to be considered ethical, it must be in
accordance with the rules or standards for right conduct or practice ( Ethical ). In Nathaniel
Hawthorne s tale Dr. Heidegger s Experiment , Dr. Heidegger performs an experiment on four elderly
individuals that he claims are a little beside themselves (Hawthorne 138) and has them drink water
from the Fountain of Youth so they can become young again. He informs the participants that he is not

If the researcher breaks any one of these standards, then the experiment is considered unethical.
Hence, Heidegger s experiment is explicitly unethical. Dr. Heidegger breaks the ethical standard
regarding consent at the beginning of his experiment. At the beginning of the story, Hawthorne
introduces each of the characters and claims they are all a little besides themselves as is not
unfrequently the case with old people, when worried either by present troubles of woful recollections
(Hawthorne 138). The quotation explains that both Dr. Heidegger and his guests are elderly people
dealing with problems from their present or past, and consequently, are almost out of their senses (

Quixote And The Insanity In Man Of La Mancha
quot;Man of La Mancha quot; is the story of Alonso Quijana, a poor gentleman from
Spain. He has read so many of the exaggerated romances of chivalry that he
finally believes them to be his reality and sets forth as Don Quixote, a
knight errant on his old horse seeking many misadventures. And while this
insanity may be an object of distress for others, Quixote s madness is
comforting to himself.
And all he reads oppresses him . . . fills him with indignation at man s
murderous ways toward man. He broods . . . and broods . . . and broods and
finally from so much brooding his brains dry up! He lays down the melancholy
burden of sanity and conceives the strangest project ever imagined . . . to

After defeating the muleteers, he insists
upon helping them recover, saying, quot;I must raise them up and minister to
their wounds . . . Nobility demands. quot; In the world Quixote has left, his
enemies would be left to rot, but in his own reality, he is doing the only
right thing by tending to the injuries. This way comforting himself by
correcting the wrongs of quot;mans murderous ways toward man. quot;
Despite his noble deeds, Quixote is still looked upon as a crazy old man
by those around him. As Senor Carrasco tries to convince Quixote of who he
really is, Don continues to deny the real world and live in his dream, saying
quot;so learned, yet so misinformed . . . facts are the enemy of truth. quot;
Confronted with reality, the lunacy prevails because in his imaginary world,
all is right and the pain he knew before was gone.
Behind all the events of Quixote s misadventures and insanity, is a basic
premise that is best expressed by the words of Cervantes:
I have lived nearly fifty years and I have seen life as it is. Pain, misery,
hunger. . . cruelty beyond belief. I have heard the singing from taverns and
the moans of bundles of filth on the streets. I have been a soldier and seen
my comrades fall in battle . . . or die more slowly under the lash in Africa.
I have held them in my arms at the final moment. These were men who saw

The Silent Murder Of The Unborn
The Silent Murder of the Unborn
The legal rights and availability of women to have access to abortions was decided by the landmark
case of Roe v Wade (1) (1973). In terms of how this ruling impacted our freedoms, while it gave the
birthmother a right to choose life or death for her baby; the baby s freedom, that of the right to life, (as
stated in our Declaration of Independence (2)) is totally stripped away. Therefore, the ruling of the
case Roe v Wade (1) was effective for what it set out to do, which was to give the birthmother the
right to choose what to do with her body. However, it set up the issue of having to determine the
viability of the unborn baby, and when life actually begins. Both issues are still being redefined today.
Roe v Wade (1973) (1) involved the plaintiff, a Texas resident, Norma L. McCorvey known as Jane
Roe . In 1970 Jane Roe was pregnant with her third child and was not capable of providing the basic
necessities for her unborn baby. So, she decided to get an abortion. However, during this time period
the state of Texas did not allow abortions, with only certain exceptions such as the mother s pregnancy
due to being raped, or incest, or her life being in danger. Jane did not fit any of these categories and
was denied the right to an abortion. Lucky for Jane, she had an encounter with Sarah Wedinggton, the
prosecuting attorney, who needed a plaintiff in her case to challenge Texas anti abortion laws. Jane
agreed to be involved with the

Good And Evil In Lord Of The Flies Essay
In the book Lord of the Flies by William Golding, some critics think his two themes are that there is
no hope for humankind and that evil is an inborn trait in all people. They think this because they are
becoming chaotic savages, abusing their power and their instinct to survive and kill starts to take over.
The critics think the themes are there is no hope for humankind and evil is in all people because the
boys in the book become savages and everything turns to chaos and violence. At the beginning of the
book the boys elect a chief and start to create jobs for everyone, like attending the fire and hunting.
Although, as the story continues the boys start to not care about tending the fire, they only care about
having fun. Pretty soon everyone starts to disregard Ralph, their chief, and follow Jack because he
wants to have fun and hunt. What they don t realize is that if they don t tend to the fire they re never ...

The Deer Hunter Analysis
The Deer Hunter is a Vietnam war film directed by Michael Cimino released in 1978. It tracks the
lives of lifelong friends in a small town before and after three of them go to Vietnam. The main male
characters that go to Vietnam are Michael, Nick, and Steven. The beginning of the film shows the kind
of friendship they have with one another before becoming a soldier using up about an hour of
screentime. The middle of the film shows what they went through during the war, the last part of the
film was used to show how they were affected in their lives. What most likely influenced the film like
the many other war films at the time was the relatively recent end of the Vietnam war.
The setting of the film was realistic never did I think while watching that this was something that
wouldn t have happened. The atmosphere suggested that Pennsylvania was a quiet place free from
trouble, while Vietnam was a place full of mayhem and temptations. There was one very blatant
symbol used to foreshadow the events to come. The cups that Steven and his wife drank out of that if
not a single drop was spilled would be good luck for the rest of their lives.
The camera work of the film was executed well. The close ups helped to build the tension during the
Russian roulette scenes. There were very scenic wide shots of the mountains during hunting scenes
that helped contrast the intense scenes of the movie by making those scenes more intense when we see
them because of how tranquil much of the movie

Analysis Of The Poem Billy Collins
Introduction to Poetry Billy Collins is known as one of the most popular, successful, and influential
poets in American history. Collins is famously known for addressing his audience directly, mentally
pulling them into the poem, and creating a temporary companionship with the reader. One of the
prominent examples of this style of writing can be examined in his poem, Introduction to Poetry. In
Billy Collins poem, Introduction to Poetry, he plays the role as a teacher, teaching the reader how to
analyze poetry by letting your open mindedness lead you to the meaning of the poem. The title of the
poem can be compared to a beginner English class, such as Poetry 101. Introduction to Poetry is about
a teacher s frustration towards the simple mistake that inexperienced readers make when poetry is first
introduced. Unable to read the poem properly, they often do not capture a poem s natural beauty or
message. Often frustration to interpreting certain pieces of writing leads to the animosity of poetry. In
the poem Collins is contrasting two ways of reading a poem. The first opinion, which is advocated in
the first five stanzas, is of the poet or teacher who describes how he would like readers to read the
poem. The second opinion, which is condemned in the last two stanzas, is of the readers and students
who want to find out as quickly as possible what the poem means. Throughout the poem, there is
heavy use of metaphor for poem . For example, in the first stanza, I ask them to

Analysis Of H Is For Hawk, By Helen Macdonald
In Helen Macdonald s memoir, H is for Hawk, she explores her journey of grief and recovery
following the death of her father and how a goshawk and the wildness it embodies allows her to
rediscover herself and restore her own humanity. In the very first chapter Macdonald takes time to
assert her opinion of the sanctity and power of the wild, a world separate from and yet connected to
our own, very much like the land of Faery from Gaelic and later English mythologies. To Macdonald
the wild is a place and a presence that is both alien and familiar. Macdonald hunts down these places
that to her seem to be more deeply connected to that force, wildness within and beyond all things.
Macdonald relishes in these places beauty, as her father had taught ... Show more content on

Macdonald experiences a near prophetic realization that she requires a goshawk and by intense
impulse she purchases a goshawk from a man in Scotland over the internet, having immediately
become enthralled by the grace and beauty of the bird the man puts on display, and spends all her time
training it, and finally reveling in the sight of the hawk in flight, losing herself in the righteous fury of
a predator at work. She thinks of herself less and less as a part of humanity, stating a feeling of
disconnect and alienness with other people and society at large being much more comfortable hunting
with her hawk. Macdonald begins to associate more closely with the hawk than with people, believing
herself to be turning into a hawk at some personal level, Hunting with the hawk took me to the very
edge of being human. Then it took me past that place to somewhere I wasn t human at all, (195).
Macdonald fancies herself a changeling born of another world, the world of man being nothing but a
place of discomfort and pain, she sees her only chance at a reprieve to return to a place of swaying
trees and impenetrable fog where goshawks rule the sky, where wildness dwells and reigns supreme.
In this sense Macdonald s hobby is far more than just a hobby to her, she at some level believes that
this distance between her and other people, and her obsession with Mabel is all a part of her healing
process, of some unspoken, unknowable ritual in which the wild will encapsulate all that she is and
remove her from pain and

Summary Of The House On The Borderland
In Lauren Jae Gutterman s The House on the Borderland: Lesbian Desire, Marriage, and the
Household, Gutterman explained how women who are married, have tendencies to be with another
woman, but do not want to tell their husbands. During the 1950s to the late 1970s, many women
showed heterosexual norms. They took care of their families, and expressed unconditional love for
their spouse. However, if becoming close to another woman, they will soon start to become attracted
to them and then form a relationship. The urge to love another woman while loving their spouse was a
difficult task to balance for women. Not knowing if they will get caught or not, women who shown
interest in another woman had to keep it private, to prevent the family structure from getting ruined.
The absence of the husbands allowed the relationships of two women to happen. Gutterman states
Given wives limited mobility, and free time, most of their lesbian affairs took place in their own
homes. Many took advantage of their husbands absence to spend time with their lovers, carried on
affairs without their husbands knowledge (3). The interaction woman received from another woman
strengthened their relationship and the feelings they had for one another. Women were living two lives
around that time. In the light, they depicted an ordinary life of a woman, as she will be an outstanding
citizen in the community. The role of a woman in the day depicted how the woman took care of the
family, and the household,

The Second And Current Republic
Introduction
From French revolution in 1789, France has had five different republican systems. The fifth and
current republic was an outcome to the Algerian crisis in 1950 s.
The First Republic began with the fall of King Louis XVI in 1792 and ended with Napoleon
Bonaparte declaring himself emperor of the First French Empire in 1804. After Napoleon s empire had
ended, a period of monarchies followed, until the 1848 Revolution saw the birth of the Second
Republic, paradoxically enough with the election of Napoleon s own nephew, Napoleon III, as its first
president. The Second Empire collapsed in 1870 with the catastrophic war against the Prussians,
which the French soundly lost. That same year, the Third Republic was created. Although the Third
Republic had a long life, it was on the other hand quite unstable. In the period from 1929 to 1939,
there were 18 different governments. The Third Republic ended in 1940 with the German occupation
of France. The Fourth Republic was established after the war and officially put in place in 1946 and
successfully led France to an economic recovery after Second World War. This essay discusses about
the constitution of French fourth republic on 13 October 1946 with the Liberté, égalité, fraternité
motto, head by Charles de Gaulle.
Historical Overview
Foreign policy of France in early 1940s was alliance with USSR and informal understanding with

My Night
I slept restless Sunday night. I could not stop thinking about the town and returning the shadow. I was
afraid someone would catch us and my mother find out about it. I walked over to the closet and I
grabbed a cover and extra pillow. Carefully, I slid the cover and pillow under the blanket laying on the
bed. I firmly shaped the cover and pillow to represent me sleeping. Hoping if my mom would enter
the room, that, she would think I was sound to sleep. It was a beautiful night. The full moon shining

James would pick us up on Monday morning by 1:00 a.m. By the time his carriage had arrived at my

An arbitration clause is a section in a contract that requires the parties to decide their differences over
an arbitration process. Though such a clause may or might not agree that arbitration happen inside a
specific authority, it always binds the parties to a type of resolution outside of the courts, and is
therefore considered a kind of forum selection clause.

My Favorite Villain In The Legend Of Zelda
Who is your favorite villain? Maybe it s the evil Darth Vader, killing his own people in his conquest,
or Sauron, who is rarely seen but sends his armies off to stop Frodo. All villains have something in
common, they are a character in a story or play who opposes the hero (Merriam Webster). This is
especially true in video games, where most of the story is driven by the villain. The Legend of Zelda, a
popular game franchise, has had many villains in its time. Lord Vaati is the most well written and well
developed villain in the Zelda series. He appears in the series multiple times and never fails to get the
player interested. Lord Vaati is one of two recurring villains in the Legend of Zelda series. He is first
seen in Four Swords, but we are given more backstory about him in Minish Cap. In Minish Cap, Vaati
is trying to become the most powerful magician, and tries to take over Hyrule in his quest for more
power. He searches for an ancient artifact known as the Light Force, which would give him ultimate
power. In the end he is defeated by the hero, Link, and is sealed away in a sword to return in later
games, (Miyamoto). Every great villain needs a goal, a motive, to drive him/her to commit their evil
deeds. As stated in the article What Makes a Good Villain , Villains, too, should also have
understandable goals. Furthermore, these goals should be rooted in that villain s psychology. (The
Nook Press Blog). Vaati is no different, he wants to take over Hyrule and find

Analysis Of Joachim Patinir s Triptych, The Penitence Of...
Netherlandish use of triptychs three distinct art pieces that simultaneously exist as individual images
and as a collective picture usually were presented as devotional images and altarpieces. Joachim
Patinir s triptych, The Penitence of Saint Jerome (c. 1512 1515, Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY),
employs both the same form of traditional triptychs and the Netherlandish tradition of extended
panoramic landscapes; however, the triptych breaks traditional convention. The three separate panels
share the same landscape which allows the figures to exist in the same pictorial space. This maintains
an unbroken continuation of the landscape, which adds not only to the content within a single panel,
but to the entire narrative of the triptych. Yet, each individual panel is also worthy of its own analysis
and discussion. The left panel depicts the first of three saints, Saint John the Baptist, in the midst of
his signature baptizing of Christ. A river flows from the furthest reaches of the landscape down to the
bottom frame, with Christ standing thigh deep in the water, a dove alighting from God perched in the
clouds in the top left. Saint John kneels over him on the riverbank while a group of people huddle in
the distance behind the baptism scene. In traditional style, the triptych simultaneously depicts a central
scene as well as past and future narrative events present here as Saint John preaching chronologically
before the actual baptism of Christ. The central, larger panel

  • 2. Economies Of Scale And Scope Economies of Scope: Economies of scale and scope help producers lower their cost by producing the next unit of output at lower costs this trend continues until production reaches a level of diseconomies of scale where production is no longer running as efficient as it should. This tends to increase the barriers to entry for new competitors as when they enter the market they will experience a higher cost of production. Why? Solely because they have smaller economies of scale and cannot afford to sell the product at the same price as other much larger firms. Generally, economies of scale and scope positively affect General Electric. Since General Electric is one of the biggest conglomerates in the world it has the opportunity to offer products and services through the same organization. These products might be highly unalike but due to the wide range of businesses covered by GE the prospect is there. For example, GE, in order to continue a healthy relationship with valued customers, has allowed the multimillion dollar purchase of its jet engines to be financed over long periods of time. The catch is that these finance opportunities are usually done via a leasing arrangement from GE Finance. In recent year GE has pursued a service strategy when it comes to selling aircraft engines. They sell what they call power by the hour this enables the private firm to indirectly rent the engine turbines, in return the firm would award GE with maintenance contracts on the engines. This ... • 3. Persuasive Essay On The Vietnam War The question is how can we begin to change what s going on in this country? Let s take a look at the Vietnam War. It is an illegal and immoral war. President Johnson lies about bringing democracy to Vietnam. How does one expect to bring democracy to a country that doesn t want it? By sending hundreds of thousands of troops and bombing their lands to ashes? That is textbook for tyranny and absolute power. Just because a nation doesn t want to live the same way as you doesn t mean you have the right to go across the world and kill them. Our country wants to be the ruler of all. And our marines are its policemen. What can we do to stop it? What can we do to stop the killing of women and children? We have to power to stand up and say no. The only way to stop this war is if our young soldiers follow Muhammad Ali and say No, we ain t going to fight your war. Why should we travel 8000 miles to kill someone who never called him a Negro? We should not be obliged to kill someone we are told to kill. We will not allow them to make us hired killers. If I want to kill someone I decide who. But to put a gun in a man s hands and send him to kill someone is wrong. It is wrong. How come this country adamantly fights communism worldwide, but ignores domestic racial oppression? It is because the United States fails to recognize it. Now there s a rule in Alabama that a political party must have an animal as their emblem. I helped found the Lowndes County Freedom Organization in Alabama. We ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But Jacobs is not only making this point clear to the reader; she is making it clear to herself. In writing her story, Jacobs comes to terms with herself. Wideman similarly employs the use of the question. While struggling with the issue of telling his brother s story without making it his own, he asks the reader a string of questions: And if I did learn to listen, wouldn t there be a point at which I d have to take over the telling? Wideman, uncomfortable with his relationship between his brother, the text, and himself, makes his plight obvious in order to receive affirmation from the reader who is forced to ask herself what she would do. The Silent Murder Of The Unborn The Silent Murder of the Unborn The legal rights and availability of women to have access to abortions was decided by the landmark case of Roe v Wade (1) (1973). In terms of how this ruling impacted our freedoms, while it gave the birthmother a right to choose life or death for her baby; the baby s freedom, that of the right to life, (as stated in our Declaration of Independence (2)) is totally stripped away. Therefore, the ruling of the case Roe v Wade (1) was effective for what it set out to do, which was to give the birthmother the right to choose what to do with her body. It tracks the lives of lifelong friends in a small town before and after three of them go to Vietnam. The main male characters that go to Vietnam are Michael, Nick, and Steven. The beginning of the film shows the kind of friendship they have with one another before becoming a soldier using up about an hour of screentime. The middle of the film shows what they went through during the war, the last part of the film was used to show how they were affected in their lives. What most likely influenced the film like the many other war films at the time was the relatively recent end of the Vietnam war. The setting of the film was realistic never did I think while watching that this was something that wouldn t have happened. The atmosphere suggested that Pennsylvania was a quiet place free from trouble, while Vietnam was a place full of mayhem and temptations. There was one very blatant symbol used to foreshadow the events to come. The cups that Steven and his wife drank out of that if not a single drop was spilled would be good luck for the rest of their lives. The camera work of the film was executed well. The close ups helped to build the tension during the Russian roulette scenes. • 27. Analysis Of The Poem Billy Collins Introduction to Poetry Billy Collins is known as one of the most popular, successful, and influential poets in American history. Collins is famously known for addressing his audience directly, mentally pulling them into the poem, and creating a temporary companionship with the reader. One of the prominent examples of this style of writing can be examined in his poem, Introduction to Poetry. In Billy Collins poem, Introduction to Poetry, he plays the role as a teacher, teaching the reader how to analyze poetry by letting your open mindedness lead you to the meaning of the poem. The title of the poem can be compared to a beginner English class, such as Poetry 101. Introduction to Poetry is about a teacher s frustration towards the simple mistake that inexperienced readers make when poetry is first introduced. Unable to read the poem properly, they often do not capture a poem s natural beauty or message. Often frustration to interpreting certain pieces of writing leads to the animosity of poetry. In the poem Collins is contrasting two ways of reading a poem. The first opinion, which is advocated in the first five stanzas, is of the poet or teacher who describes how he would like readers to read the poem. The second opinion, which is condemned in the last two stanzas, is of the readers and students who want to find out as quickly as possible what the poem means. Throughout the poem, there is heavy use of metaphor for poem . For example, in the first stanza, I ask them to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Analysis Of H Is For Hawk, By Helen Macdonald In Helen Macdonald s memoir, H is for Hawk, she explores her journey of grief and recovery following the death of her father and how a goshawk and the wildness it embodies allows her to rediscover herself and restore her own humanity. In the very first chapter Macdonald takes time to assert her opinion of the sanctity and power of the wild, a world separate from and yet connected to our own, very much like the land of Faery from Gaelic and later English mythologies. To Macdonald the wild is a place and a presence that is both alien and familiar. Macdonald hunts down these places that to her seem to be more deeply connected to that force, wildness within and beyond all things. Macdonald relishes in these places beauty, as her father had taught ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Macdonald experiences a near prophetic realization that she requires a goshawk and by intense impulse she purchases a goshawk from a man in Scotland over the internet, having immediately become enthralled by the grace and beauty of the bird the man puts on display, and spends all her time training it, and finally reveling in the sight of the hawk in flight, losing herself in the righteous fury of a predator at work. She thinks of herself less and less as a part of humanity, stating a feeling of disconnect and alienness with other people and society at large being much more comfortable hunting with her hawk. Macdonald begins to associate more closely with the hawk than with people, believing herself to be turning into a hawk at some personal level, Hunting with the hawk took me to the very edge of being human. Then it took me past that place to somewhere I wasn t human at all, (195). Macdonald fancies herself a changeling born of another world, the world of man being nothing but a place of discomfort and pain, she sees her only chance at a reprieve to return to a place of swaying trees and impenetrable fog where goshawks rule the sky, where wildness dwells and reigns supreme. In this sense Macdonald s hobby is far more than just a hobby to her, she at some level believes that this distance between her and other people, and her obsession with Mabel is all a part of her healing process, of some unspoken, unknowable ritual in which the wild will encapsulate all that she is and remove her from pain and ... Some of the other bases: Air Station New River (USMC), Camp Geiger (USMC), Air Station Cherry Point, smaller adjacent posts, and reserve stations (Google, n.d.). Every military personal that separates from their given branch is required to turn in their individual issue gear. Camp Lejeune s Consolidated Issue Facility (CIF) states Dirty, cracked, missing or broken gear is the last thing on the mind of a Marine returning from Iraq (Muth, 2006). This can be a challenging thing for Marines to accomplish the CIF department at Lejeune explains just one of the challenges that they face The only thing about cleaning the gear is that Marines are taking the flak jackets apart and drying them in a dryer. The problem with that is that the outer shell will shrink so it s harder to get the SAPI (Small Arms Protective Inserts) plates back into them. If you wash it you have to let the outer shell air dry (Muth, 2006). This causes an extra amount of stress while trying to transition out of the military. The gear has to be clean, undamaged and the correct generation that the service member was issued. • 34. Summary Of The House On The Borderland In Lauren Jae Gutterman s The House on the Borderland: Lesbian Desire, Marriage, and the Household, Gutterman explained how women who are married, have tendencies to be with another woman, but do not want to tell their husbands. During the 1950s to the late 1970s, many women showed heterosexual norms. They took care of their families, and expressed unconditional love for their spouse. However, if becoming close to another woman, they will soon start to become attracted to them and then form a relationship. The urge to love another woman while loving their spouse was a difficult task to balance for women. Not knowing if they will get caught or not, women who shown interest in another woman had to keep it private, to prevent the family structure from getting ruined. The absence of the husbands allowed the relationships of two women to happen. Gutterman states Given wives limited mobility, and free time, most of their lesbian affairs took place in their own homes. Many took advantage of their husbands absence to spend time with their lovers, carried on affairs without their husbands knowledge (3). The interaction woman received from another woman strengthened their relationship and the feelings they had for one another. Women were living two lives around that time. In the light, they depicted an ordinary life of a woman, as she will be an outstanding citizen in the community. • 35. The Second And Current Republic Introduction From French revolution in 1789, France has had five different republican systems. The fifth and current republic was an outcome to the Algerian crisis in 1950 s. The First Republic began with the fall of King Louis XVI in 1792 and ended with Napoleon Bonaparte declaring himself emperor of the First French Empire in 1804. After Napoleon s empire had ended, a period of monarchies followed, until the 1848 Revolution saw the birth of the Second Republic, paradoxically enough with the election of Napoleon s own nephew, Napoleon III, as its first president. The Second Empire collapsed in 1870 with the catastrophic war against the Prussians, which the French soundly lost. That same year, the Third Republic was created. Although the Third Republic had a long life, it was on the other hand quite unstable. In the period from 1929 to 1939, there were 18 different governments. The Third Republic ended in 1940 with the German occupation of France. The Fourth Republic was established after the war and officially put in place in 1946 and successfully led France to an economic recovery after Second World War. This essay discusses about the constitution of French fourth republic on 13 October 1946 with the Liberté, égalité, fraternité motto, head by Charles de Gaulle. Historical Overview Foreign policy of France in early 1940s was alliance with USSR and informal understanding with Britain all based on the assumption of main threat from Germany. I walked over to the closet and I grabbed a cover and extra pillow. Carefully, I slid the cover and pillow under the blanket laying on the bed. I firmly shaped the cover and pillow to represent me sleeping. Hoping if my mom would enter the room, that, she would think I was sound to sleep. It was a beautiful night. When I saw everyone, I put my finger on my lips and said, SHH. I got in the carriage and James rode us away. You do not look so good, Chelsea. Your eyes are watery and red. Cindy said. I replied, I did not sleep too well. I got out of bed more than once thinking about everything that happened. I know how you feel, Chelsea. I had a hard time sleeping too. Carl said. • 39. My Favorite Villain In The Legend Of Zelda Who is your favorite villain? Maybe it s the evil Darth Vader, killing his own people in his conquest, or Sauron, who is rarely seen but sends his armies off to stop Frodo. All villains have something in common, they are a character in a story or play who opposes the hero (Merriam Webster). This is especially true in video games, where most of the story is driven by the villain. The Legend of Zelda, a popular game franchise, has had many villains in its time. Lord Vaati is the most well written and well developed villain in the Zelda series. He appears in the series multiple times and never fails to get the player interested. Lord Vaati is one of two recurring villains in the Legend of Zelda series. He is first seen in Four Swords, but we are given more backstory about him in Minish Cap. In Minish Cap, Vaati is trying to become the most powerful magician, and tries to take over Hyrule in his quest for more power. He searches for an ancient artifact known as the Light Force, which would give him ultimate power. In the end he is defeated by the hero, Link, and is sealed away in a sword to return in later games, (Miyamoto). Every great villain needs a goal, a motive, to drive him/her to commit their evil deeds. As stated in the article What Makes a Good Villain , Villains, too, should also have understandable goals. • 40. Analysis Of Joachim Patinir s Triptych, The Penitence Of... Netherlandish use of triptychs three distinct art pieces that simultaneously exist as individual images and as a collective picture usually were presented as devotional images and altarpieces. Joachim Patinir s triptych, The Penitence of Saint Jerome (c. 1512 1515, Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY), employs both the same form of traditional triptychs and the Netherlandish tradition of extended panoramic landscapes; however, the triptych breaks traditional convention. The three separate panels share the same landscape which allows the figures to exist in the same pictorial space. This maintains an unbroken continuation of the landscape, which adds not only to the content within a single panel, but to the entire narrative of the triptych. Yet, each individual panel is also worthy of its own analysis and discussion. The left panel depicts the first of three saints, Saint John the Baptist, in the midst of his signature baptizing of Christ. A river flows from the furthest reaches of the landscape down to the bottom frame, with Christ standing thigh deep in the water, a dove alighting from God perched in the clouds in the top left. Saint John kneels over him on the riverbank while a group of people huddle in the distance behind the baptism scene. In traditional style, the triptych simultaneously depicts a central scene as well as past and future narrative events present here as Saint John preaching chronologically before the actual baptism of Christ.
