The Relationship Between Narcissism And The Frequency Of...
Communication 382
Haobang Lu
3/6/15
CHAPTER ONE
1.0 Introduction
1.1 Background
Quite a number of social scientific researches in the communication mainstream are developing at a
faster rate, particularly researches with a purpose of determining the relationship between the social
networking sites (the use of Instagram) and narcissism. It is therefore quite in order to explicitly
establish an appropriate technique of variable determination and hypothesis testing to effectively
address the concern of the relationship between narcissism and the frequency of active usage of
Instagram (Ames Anderson, 2006). Most previous researches have presented an objective opinion that
a variety of social networking behaviors conceptualizes the notion of Narcissism. The concept of
gender disparity and age differences have tremendously influenced the findings of most previous
researches (Jayson, 2009).
The fact that quite a number of social networking sites are actively used by most young adults, college
students and teenagers establishes several variations in conceptualizing an ideal connection between
narcissism and use of Instagram. The paper addresses the concept of narcissism and establishes the
fact it is perceived and used in reference to subclinical narcissism (Bergman et al., 2011). Subclinical
narcissism is perceived as a humanity trait that exist at various levels of age differences within the
normal population. On the same note, subclinical narcissism

1.OEDIPAL/ELECTRA COMPLEX
Have you ever felt close to one of your parent but hated the one that is the same sex as you? It s not
your fault, it s just your brain messing with you. If you re a girl, that means you have an electra
complex and for a guy it s called the oedipal complex.
Story time! :
Okay, so Oedipus was destined to kill his father. In order to stop that from happening, his parents sent
him to a faraway land. However, when Oedipus grew up, he went back to where he was born and
decided to kill the king and marry the queen. Little did he know that those were his biological parents

WHAT DOES IT MEAN: An Achilles heel is a person s weakness or flaw.
IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY: During the Trojan war, Achilles was one of the main heros. His mother
wanted to make him immortal so she dipped him the river Styx (a river in the underworld) but held
him by the heel. Because of that, his whole body except for his heel was submerged in the water thus
making his weak spot his heel. MIDAS TOUCH:

One may say that everything they touch turns to gold.
IN GREEK MYTHOLOGY: King Midas was granted one wish by Dionysus, the God of wine.
Unfortunately, he wasn t careful with what he wished for and desired that everything he touched be

Why Texting and Driving Should Be Banned Essay
There is 250 Million American who has a cell phone. Georgia house bill 23 would ban texting and
talking drivers who are under 18 years old (Dickensheets N. Pag). Some people think that texting
while driving should be unbanned because not everyone would be impaired when performing this
task. However I think texting and driving should be banned because it costs too many injuries and
death you see on TV and the news that are related to this. Some people thinks that driving and texting
is just a simple task like picking up a phone and just press random buttons on it. To me every key you
press could affect a person s life people who text and drive don t pay attention on what they are doing

Almost every teenager who can owns a car has one and almost 50% of them do text while driving.
Texting while driving distract the awareness you have on the road ahead of you. There has been some
research about driving while texting. The research shows that your reaction speed is reduced when you
are doing this dangerous act (Friedeman N. Pag). When you are texting while driving you most likely
are not going to notice the car right in front of you for you to hit. Another reason why you should not
do this while you are driving is that you are not aware of signs in front. Results of missing the signs
that you might drive into a closed road or even into a place that leads to nowhere in the woods. The
people on the other side of the coin think that texting while driving should not be banned because
eating and driving or listening to radio can impair the driver as much as texting and driving do to a
driver (Friedeman N. Pag). Also, many argue a law against texting would be difficult to enforce
because it is hard to check if people are hiding their texts or not, just like some people do in class!
Another counterpoint would be that people think it is

Platinum Box Case Study Essay
Executive Summary The new business venture to produce quality boxes for the U.S market has
created a requirement for Platinum Box to source five new presses. The three bids to supply these
presses were from Merakuri, Jabaking and Pnutype. Each bid had its attributes over the other. Finding
a way to fairly evaluate each bid was needed. A Weighted Evaluation System was chosen. Four factors
were used to evaluate the bids. They are: Performance Quality, Service, Price (total cost of purchase
determines the pricing factor) and Financing. By applying a value to each, a better evaluation of the
bids can be made. Performance Quality was perceived to be of utmost importance to the point where
the success of the project depended on it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The selection process is further complicated by Platinum Box plan to expand to 500,000 boxes per
year in three years requiring more presses so the desire to form a relationship with a quality supplier is
of importance. By using a Weighted Evaluation System as a tool we can better understand the bids and
their attributes. Because not all the four factors Performance, Service, Price and Finance have the
same importance a value or weight has been assigned. Merakuri Jabaking Pnutype Performance 40 35
20 30 Service 20 20 15 15 Price 20 15 20 10 Finance 20 15 10 20 Total 100 85 65 75 Some of the
reasoning behind this weighting is based on the importance of Performance Quality as a sourcing
criteria thus it is given a weight of 40 compared to the other three at 20 equally for a total of 100.
Performance has such a high weight because it encompasses such factors as

Schopenhauer s Criticism of Kant s Analysis of Object Essay
Schopenhauer s Criticism of Kant s Analysis of Object
Schopenhauer makes it clear that he is indebted to Kant for his vision of transcendental idealism, and
that his Critique of Pure Reason [2] is a work of genius. However, Schopenhauer argued that Kant
made many mistakes when formulating his philosophy, and he set about the task of uncovering them
in his Criticism of the Kantian Philosophy, an appendix to be found in The World as Will and
Representation [1]. In this essay I wish to analyse the criticism made against Kant s determination of
an object, since this is an important factor if we are to comprehend how we understand reality.
Kant s Critique of Pure Reason [2] is notoriously difficult to read and often unclear. Possibly, ... Show

Only with the concept of the chair does the chair become known. Concepts are essential if we are to
perceive the world: in no other way can an object be given to us [2; B33]. Thus, for Kant, intuition and
thought complement one another: thoughts without content are empty, intuitions without concepts are
blind [2; B75].
The scope of the concept of object goes further than the example I have given immediately suggests: it
does not just deal with an object that I perceive at one particular time, but can deal with the object at
different times, and at different positions in space. Thus, to take the example of the particular chair I
am looking at, the same concept of the chair synthesizes my immediate intuition, along with the chair
as it was yesterday when, I recall, it was in another room, and also with any expectation I have of the
chair tomorrow. The concept is able to synthesize all of these manifold phenomena across time and
space. It picks out those features that make it the same chair; for example, that it is a particular shape
and colour, and that it has a particular scratch mark on one of its legs.
Bringing Thinking into Perception
Schopenhauer s first criticism of Kant is that he brings thinking into perception [1; p.439]. As we have
seen, for Kant, an object is not perceived meaningfully for what it is, until it is thought. Yet, this seems
odd, because it seems to me that I do not have

False Confessions In The Criminal Justice System
False confessions are a major problem in the Criminal Justice system, since 1989, a total of two
thousand people have been convicted for serious crimes that they did not commit. There are many
causes of false confessions, some including a low IQ and mental illness. Today, people are often
targeted by detectives when being interrogated for committing a crime. As the causes of false
confessions include mental illness and low intelligence quote, therefore leading to false convictions,
there has to be solutions to these issues.
False confessions are disclosures of guilt for a crime in which the confessor does not appear
responsible. Starting off, the Pittsburgh Post claims, Most false interrogations involve assertive
confessions where police ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First off, The Pittsburgh Post bring s up, Statements can be complicated to document due to many
police organizations fail to videotape interrogations (Moushey). This example describes that many
police agencies fail to record the interrogations that they are involved in which causes the cases to be
unsolved for many years. To continue, New York Times claims, Police use a variation of techniques to
receive a certain disclosure, but the techniques used can be hard for the jury to comprehend (Dolan).
This confirmation proves that the techniques used to reveal evidence can not be understood by the
court, therefore, recordings during interrogations are avoided. Moving on, New York Times explains,
Legal authorities claim that the best way to make sure confessions are truthful is to require detectives
to document and record interrogations (Dolan). This quote verifies that it should be essential for
detectives and police to videotape questioning because they may be tricking victims into confessing.
Finally, New York Times mentions, Tape recording could prevent police from doing remarkable
techniques and prevent false convictions (Dolan). This citation clarifies that tape recording could
prevent police from going the extra mile to find someone guilty in their case. Many police break the
law by trying to find a victim guilty and tricking them into falsely confessing to a crime they

Landscape Architecture Essay
Why is research an integral part of landscape architecture?
This semester we tried to learn and discuss the influence of research work in landscape architecture
design. Landscape architecture is becoming more and more important in people s daily life today and
it is essential for us to have a good awareness of how research work would affect landscape
architecture design. I will illustrate this point from three parts: (1) why is research an integral part of
landscape architecture? (2) what roles do it fill? (3) how will landscape architecture be impacted by
over the fifty years as a result of landscape architecture research?
First of all, a successful landscape architecture design work is not only based on designers design
technique and talent, information about the site and guideline of the design process are also important
issues. Evidence based design is an ideal example of landscape architecture design today, which is a
theory emphasizing credible evidence to influence design work. It is vey popular in healthcare field
and designers try to perfect their work by credible information. So, information is really important in
landscape design today. Our world is full of information and information is really easily acquired
today by internet. Information is essential for our design work. While, not all of information we
collected is true. So, research work is becoming more and more important for us to collect credible
information.
Research work is a process to look for

The Downfall Of Macbeth In William Shakespeare s Play
Stars hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires. (Act 1 Scene 4 Line 50 51) Macbeth
s ambition and greed towards total power led to his spiraling downfall in the play, The Tragedy of
Macbeth. Although once a great and respected hero, Macbeth let his thoughts overpower his
conscience to make the right choices for his sake and others. His actions led to the deaths of innocent
people.
Macbeth was a Great War hero that had defeated Macdonwald s rebellious army during the battle that
was ending as the play starts. As the news of the victory spreads around the town, Macbeth is viewed
as a true hero due to his bravery and sacrifice.
The honorable hero soon encountered the three witches or weird sisters and decided to dip his ... Show

Macbeth eventually became paranoid and worried that if he didn t kill anyone related to the throne, he
would be the prime suspect in the king s murder. He eventually hired people to kill Banquo, Macduff s

The fate of Macbeth is in the hands of the twisted sisters when they show him three apparitions, all
foreshadowing events to come. Beware the thane of Fife. The power of man; for none of woman born
shall harm Macbeth. Macbeth shall never vanquished be until Great Birnam wood to high Dunsinane
hill shall come against him. (Act 4 Scene 1 Lines 72, 80 81, 92 94) Macbeth s judgment is impaired
because little does he know, the tragic hero doesn t know the small twists the weird sisters play on all
of their spells.
With Macbeth s dignity so high, he shows all of the signs of the perfect tragic hero. He starts out with
a courageous, high titled spirit, and slowly turns into a heartless individual seeking total control. With
the help of the twisted sisters and Lady Macbeth getting in his head, he pays the price for his ruthless
actions.

Challenges Facing Virginia Rometty And Ibm
Challenges facing Virginia Rometty and IBM One major challenge is maintaining a competitive
advantage. With advances in technology, other companies have been able to offer solutions that are
much more affordable. The introduction of cloud based software solutions has caused major
disruptions to the client s core business. Instead of investing in hardware with follow up support,
businesses are now able to utilize the same services through the cloud at a lower cost. The client must
focus on emerging markets, as they are ripe for technological growth. Attracting the best talent to help
sustain the competitive advantage has also become a challenge to overcome. During the Watson Era,

Additionally, the speed in which IBM s advancements and transformations are taking place, and the
speed in which the core business has declined, has caused more challenges. While Rometty has made
some very valuable accomplishments and changes, they are not effective enough to combat the decline
of the business. The client has to work quickly and efficiently to put all new procedures into place, to
test and execute. Furthermore, the clients will spend additional time training the staff on these new
processes and procedures. While the laying off of thousands of employees only to hire new employees
with updated skill sets may be a huge advancement in one regard, it can pose as a minor setback as it
ties into the training and developing of the new employees to these new standards. Now, with a
multitude of employees and systems to manage, the client must ensure that the company is operating
to the best of its ability. Time plays a factoring role into the company s advancement and planning to
fix existing challenges, simultaneously, as other areas of the company are hitting setbacks.
Stakeholders Roles The client s primary internal stakeholders include the Board of Directors (BOD),
Management, and Stockholders. The Board of Directors work in the interests of the Company,
bringing with them skills and expertise. The board has shown faith in Rometty s ability to turn the
company around and meet its obligation to the owners.

Iago Is The Villain
William Shakespeare has some of the most memorable villains in all of drama. One of them is known
as Iago. Many people argue that Iago was the protagonist but that simply is not true. People also think
that since Iago manipulates Othello, they think the reasoning behind this is because Iago truly thinks
he is being honest, kind and steering him onto the right path. This is not right since Iago knows what
he is doing. Iago is the villain in Shakespeare s play, Othello, uses morals to prove that Iago is the
villain. Iago is the villain because he does not respect Desdemona like everyone else does, or Othello
with his nobleness. Iago should be inspired by Othello by how he is noble, strong and kind. And what
s he then, that I play the villain?

Assistive Technology Solutions For Students With Learning...
Assistive Technology Solutions
Technological advances have increased access to the curriculum for students with learning disabilities.
Assistive technology are the devices and services used to maintain or improve the capabilities of a
student with a disability (Dell, Newton, Petroff, 2011). Through these technologies, students with
learning disabilities are able to complete tasks in the classroom that they were otherwise, unable to
achieve. Prior to the availability of assistive technology, a student who was unable to use their hands
or arms, would not have been able to write or type on a computer in the classroom. Additionally,
students unable to read because of visual disabilities, or reading disabilities such as dyslexia, had a
difficult time accessing information in the traditional classroom setting.
Assistive Technology Software
There are a variety of computer software programs and hardware designs available to use for students
with disabilities. These assistive technology designs help the student to access information they were
unable to do before. Text to speech software, such as Kurzweil 3000, reads the material aloud to the
student. Documents can be scanned into the program allowing the student to have the computer read
them the text. The student is able to complete the work independently; affording them access to the
curriculum and a new independence. Another example of assistive technology is speech to text.
Dragon Naturally Speaking, is a software program

The Importance of Prison Reform Essay
In this world we live in many feel that prisons exist to punish, not counsel, offenders. That may be true
that Prisons exist for punishment, but they also have an important contribution to make to reducing re
offending by engaging prisoners in rehabilitation programs and purposeful work. Society is flawed in
its thinking that by putting criminals in a place away from society we would be better off. To make it
worse I am sure that more that 60 percent of Americans are against social reform because they have
made up their mind that once a crook, always a crook. This is flawed mainly because it seems to

Prison life can be harsh, and time spent in a isolation is even worse. A majority of those in prison
spend countless hours in idleness. It would be much better if they used that time to reeducate
themselves for a productive life on the outside. Some of the prisoners have serious emotional and
mental problems that are never addressed and it is illogical to not attempt to correct these problems
before they are released.
There are even worse scenarios that exist in today s prisons. The prison guards have little control and
prison can be a violent place because again it is not a place that specializes in rehab. On television
shows you see inmates stabbing each other and are quick to assume that it is a dramatization, but it
really an occurrence that happens often, in prisons all over the world for that matter. In an article by
Raphael Rowe he writes about how a part of him died in prison, and he had to be on his guard
constantly, Once, I was sitting in the television room watching football when someone I knew came in
and told me to leave the room. I didn t ask questions: I just left and stood outside. A few seconds later,
three other guys came running past me, pillow cases with eye holes cut out over their heads, carrying a
huge cooking pot full of hot oil. I heard the screams long before some young black guy a sex offender
came running out, his skin dripping from his face. Such horrid tales should let the general public know
that we need to reevaluate

The Importance Of Intervention From The Arctic Council
The Arctic contributes a distinctive region which combines a unique biosphere and a wealth of natural
resources, which often become a source of controversy. This paper will argue that the significant
climate changes which are taking place in the Arctic Region open new pathways for economic
opportunism for Russia, which calls for radical intervention from the Arctic Council. Firstly, this case
study will give a framework of the main theory which will be used throughout in order to justify the
importance of intervention from the Arctic Council. The main theorist used is Oran Young, who
provides an agenda in how institutions such as the Arctic Council should function effectively in the
Arctic. Moreover, the climate changes which are taking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, through institutionalism, one can understand that the lack of intervention from non state
actors contributes to this idea of economic logic over environmental sustainability. Arguably based on
institutionalism the European actors in the Arctic, which are familiar with intervention from
institutions, are influenced for instance by UNEP when it comes in to make a decision in the specific
area. Consequently, this is helpful to understand why a state such as Russia is more economically and
military antagonistic and less prone to cooperate with the other seven states of the area over the
natural resources in the Arctic.
Institutionalism is a theory which bases its principles of the idea that there is a need for stronger global
institutions and norms as well as sufficient state and local capacity to constrain and direct the global
political economy (Clapp and Dauvergne, 2011, 7). More specifically, the ideas of institutionalism do
not set aside ideas such as global economic growth and foreign investment in areas of extreme wealth
in natural resources such as the Arctic. Nonetheless, they simultaneously underline the importance of
environmental sustainability which is succeeded through the setting of institutional norms which will
channel a better environmental management in addition to sustainable growth. As mentioned in the

Analysis Of The Poem The Lighthouse

The Meaning of Life in Woolf s To the Lighthouse
Life, when viewed as a compilation of fleeting memories and moments, seems chaotic, miserable and
causes one to question the purpose of it. Each of the characters of To the Lighthouse struggle with this
same realization and all strive to find permanence and meaning within their lives. While the characters
search for the meaning of life within their realms of experience, ultimately they all fail to find lasting
meaning. To the Lighthouse, a novel structured by Woolf as deeply involved in the consciousness of
the characters, their perception of meaning in the world, and the ephemeral nature of life, ultimately
suggests that although the goal of finding meaning in life is unattainable, it is the struggle for balance
and meaning that achieves purpose and self contentment. Throughout the novel, the lighthouse
symbolizes the ultimate destination, as it represents the moment the characters find the true meaning
of life. Once the characters complete the journey to the lighthouse they are able to embrace the
ephemeral nature of life and find meaning within it.
Through exploring the consciousness of her characters with depth and intensity, Woolf creates a world
in which she traces her characters thoughts and actions in relation with the world around them. As a
result, she enters her characters lives, describing their hopes, aspirations, dreams and fears never once
detaching

Now days, lots of organisations are facing the problems which is mainly related to employee s
behaviour and actions. As per this case study, The Sunday Times obtained questionaries for who had
already departing from the Western Australian (WA) Police force. According to survey officers of WA
force who left the force they had some issues like bullying, corruption, illegal activities,
discrimination on racist grounds, and they didn t get proper training and development at a work place.
This problem mainly occurs in organisation when there is lack of motivation, lack of organisational
justice, negative culture and low morale.
The purpose of this case study is to give brief view about, why employees had to face these problems
and how to make positive culture and what and where the changes are required for the WA force. This
report introduces MARS motivation theory and Expectancy theory of motivation for improves officers
behaviours towards force, with that how can they fill organisational justice with engaging into their
work and how to improve work efficiency? At the last, The Sunday Times made survey as per only
departing officers which are not giving balanced view of whole force.
In this case study, some concepts of organisational behaviour which are describe WA force officers
problems.
Organisational culture:
Organisation culture is major issue in the case study because proper organisational culture means to
catch the problems and redesign and develop better

Functional Group Decision Making
Functional Group Decision Making(FDM)
Definition
FDM answers the basic question asked by the developers of this theory. Their question is as follows.
Why do some groups make good decisions while others make bad ones? Their model argues that the
answer to this question has to do with whether the group has successfully accomplished four
functions, which they call requisite functions (pg.141). The four functions of this theory are problem
analysis, goal setting, identify alternatives, and evaluate and select. Problem analysis is when the
group focuses on the nature, extent and likely causes of the problem. This requires the group to be
careful when differentiating between problems and the symptoms of the problems. Goal setting is
when the group identifies what an ideal solution would look like. The group decides what elements are
necessary and what elements are ideal but not necessary. Identifying alternatives is when the group
generates a large number of possible solutions. This is when the group wants to brainstorm as many
possible solutions, no matter what the quality of the solution is. Finally, evaluate and select is when
the group evaluate each alternative using the established goals.
Examples From The Film
Goal setting is the first example that I found in the film. I saw this when the foreman says what the
goal of the jury is and what is needed for the guilty or not guilty verdict. I saw that one of the jurors
used problem analysis. This was when the juror started

The Use Of Electrical Probes On The Brain
The brain is one of the most complex organ in our bodies. To learn about the brain scientists use
electrical stimulation. Electrical stimulation is the use of electrical probes to determine functions of
the brain. Clinical observation of patients have also helped scientists learn more about the brain. Case
studies of different patients such as Phineas Gage have helped to learn about the different functions of
the brain and how they work together to perform complex activities. (Barron s AP Psychology 6th
Edition)
Different maps are taken of the brain in order to determine if there are any problems with the brain. An
electroencephalogram (EEG) is used an amplified read out of the brain waves. A magnetic resonance
imaging scan (MRI) gives a detailed picture of the brain s soft tissues. It also shows the structure of
the brain. A function magnetic resonance imaging scan or function MRI (fMRI) shows the function of
parts of the brain as well as the brain s structure. It also has the ability to show when a person is lying.
Scientists also use a neuroimaging technique called a positron emission tomography scan (PET scan)
to view the brain. (Barron s AP Psychology 6th Edition) The PET scan shows each brain area s
consumption of chemical fuel which is glucose. There is a scale for the PET scan to determine activity
in the brain when performing a certain action. The colors range from purple to red, purple represents
no activity while red represents very high activity. The PET scan can

Developing and designing a mixed-use hotel property...
Developing and designing a mixed use hotel property represents a certain legal and business challenge
for the developers, owners and the operators since it combines several different venues into the same
property. Likewise requires great sum of attention toward the operation and the management of the
project. Several governmental and legal characteristics need to be considered, particularly if the mixed
use hotel is located in Vietnam; on the beach of Da Nang.

A Case Of OHSA Inspector Olive Stone Case Study
A critical issue I discovered after reading this study case was OHSA inspector Olive Stone showed up
at the business of Carlos and his wife Leigh to review their blood borne pathogen policy and hepatitis
vaccination procedures (Karl Jim, 2002). There was panic in the company by Kris the Program
Services Director because he did not know what to do. Another key concern I learned was that Leigh
Jay s wife was the most knowledge on the OHSA policies but evidently the information did not get
disseminated to Kris. Lack of knowledge of right policy and procedures could result in a company s
success or failure in regards to a business being in compliance with State or Federal Laws (Lester
Parnell, 2006). Before large state hospitals or institutions

Landfill Fire Threatens Nuclear Waste Site Outside St. Louis
Later the EPA admitted that people who work at the West Lake Landfill have to be cautious and
careful to protect their health. According to Veronica LaCapra s report, Landfill Fire Threatens
Nuclear Waste Site Outside St. Louis. if the Westlake Landfill s soil is disarranged, radioactive dust
particles could be released into the atmosphere. Unfortunately, it may lead to the inhalation of airborne
radioactive dust particles. If these particles are inhaled by workers it could seriously harm their health.
The EPA suggested that continued monitoring is advised and necessary, due to possible elevated levels
of radon in the air at the landfill and the surrounding area. It seems full safety processes must be put
into place to reduce harmful dusting to protect everyone from potential exposure during any cleanups.
Even though the residents of North St. Louis, the EPA and other authorities have their points of view,
further serious claims continue to be revealed. An oppositional statement using government records
and the EPA s data was reported by Véronique LaCapra just recently. In the article Confused about

Why I Want For A Pharmacist
Just because you graduated from a university doesn t mean your days of studying are over says a
woman named Rosemary Killeen. Throughout my life I have been divulged with many different
questions on what I want to be when I get older. I always had vacillated between I am not really sure
yet and I want to be a professional athlete . But now that I have sat down to think about it I realized
that I would like to be a pharmacist. A pharmacist is a person who is professionally qualified to
prepare and dispense medical drugs. I think that being a pharmacist would be good for me because I
would like to be in the health field but working as a surgeon is not my type of thing. As you read on
you soon will find out the history of a pharmacist, what you need to obtain being a pharmacist, a
description of being a pharmacist, and why this job is for me. Pharmacy can be traced far back into
history. According to Pharmacy, the first known production of medicine substance was around 6th
century BC, however the earliest text of pharmacy can be dated back to the 3rd or 4th AD. Ancient
Egyptian s knowledge on pharmacy was originally written on papyrus. The earliest known complete
filling of medicine was done by the Hindu. One famous pharmacist named John Pemberton was
actually the man that invented Coca Cola. I really think it is bizarre that a pharmacist to be the person
that would invent a kind of pop let alone Coca Cola. Coca Cola is one of the most popular drinks in

Romanticist Poet-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Henry was a dreamy boy who loved to read. He heard sailors speaking Spanish, French and German in
the Portland streets and liked stories set in foreign places ( Poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow ).
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was a very popular Romanticist poet during the 18th century. This love
of reading and interest in foreign languages lead him into the Romanticism movement. In his lifetime
he wrote various different poems that are still studied and enjoyed today. Longfellow s traveling and
studies of different languages helped form him into the light Romanticist writer that he is known for
today, as demonstrated in Footsteps of Angels and Aftermath .
Longfellow achieved many different things in his lifetime. When it was time for him to go to college,
his father sent him off to Bowdoin, with hopes that he would become a lawyer. Instead when
Longfellow was there he became strongly affiliated with languages. He was so proficient in this area
that, Bowdoin created for him a professorship of modern languages, (Baym, Franklin, et al 628). The
school not only noticed his work, but created a new major because of it. His new association with
languages lead him to a trip to Europe for three years, to discover even more about this subject. While
he was settled in Germany he became quite fascinated with the Romanticism movement( Henry
Wadsworth Longfellow ). It was from here on that he started writing his poems, and becoming a true
Romanticist. Romanticism can be seen from two

Distance Education Essay
Distance Education
Distance education is a process that creates and provides access to learning when time and distance
separate the source of information and the learners (Zhang, 1998, p.1). Distance education defies time
and space and can help create a virtual schoolhouse, or a classroom without walls (Wheat, 1998, p.1).
The need to take the distance out of education has not been driven largely by sheer need to bridge
physical separations. It has been based mainly on providing access as open as possible to those who
are willing to avail themselves of the opportunities education affords them (Tam, 1998, p.3).
Education needs to reach those who are disadvantaged by location, finance, time, and resources (Tam,
1998, p.3). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Flexibility is one advantage Web based learning has over the traditional classroom...and you can go as
fast or slow as you need to learn the course materials (Clarker, 1999, p.2). Technology is opening up
many new options for students. Students who wish to continue their education are no longer limited to
a traditional classroom setting (Sonner, 1999, p.1). According to Arlene Krebs of New Orbit
Communications, we have the third wave [of distance learning], where distance learning is a
combination of video and Internet (Hancock, 1999, p.2). However, creators of distance learning tend
to worry about how it looks more than being sensitive to what the learner really needs (Hancock,
1999, p.2).
What Does the Distance Education Learner Really Need (and where does the instructional
technologist come into play)?
Distance learning, which is a form of multimedia, depends on a rich interactive environment to foster
learning (Hancock, 1999, p.1). The challenge for distance educators is to set up a cognitively rich
learning environment to facilitate the distant students construction processes (Zhang, 1998, p.4).
Modern distance education is student centered, not teacher centered...distance educators are
facilitators of their students education (Markel, 1999, p.3). Learner centric theories focus on the
importance of the learner over the instructor to the instructional activity (Leonard, 1999, p.3). The new
paradigm [for distance learning] is a more

Male Genital Mutilation Female genital mutilation in foreign countries is a hot topic that many people
stand up against. It is frowned upon by western civilization and there are entire organizations coming

female genital mutilation is illegal, why isn t male genital mutilation? Circumcision is a procedure
done primarily on infant males, in which the foreskin is surgically separated from the glans and cut

A Mauling on a Beautiful Summer Day Essay
I could hear the sirens in the distance. Everything blurred into slow motion. It had attacked. . . .
Hot summer sun glistened in the bright blue sky. The white sand felt warm beneath our bare feet. My
friends, Patrick and Tommy, and I had just spent a glorious day at the beach building sand castles and
jumping the white washed waves. It was another perfect day of summer vacation.
Our rumbling stomachs indicated that it was time to venture home. We vaulted on to our scooters and

The ambulance was approaching and the stench of burning rubber on the scorching black top

driveway; the lumbering sound of footsteps hustled down the front path. Two men dressed in dark
blue uniforms bolted through the ajar screen door. The paramedics had arrived. One paramedic was
carrying a small black bag. The other had a stethoscope strewn around his neck.
The paramedic holding the small black bag leaned down to my face to probe the wound. He
immediately reached into his bag and pulled out a large sterilized roll of white gauze, a dark bottle
containing disinfectant, a thermometer, and a device that takes blood pressure. While the other
paramedic talked to my mom to find out what happened, I could feel the blood pressure cuff tighten
around my arm and then, like a balloon, immediately deflate. The plastic tip of the thermometer filled
my ear with a beeping sound as it digitally displayed my temperature. The gauze, drowned in
disinfectant, swam laps across my cheek. The blood had coagulated and the gash exposed itself in all

Results revealed discrepancy between both methods in evaluating adherence and suggested that
interpretation of compliance should not rely on one method, as there is no single objective and reliable
measure of compliance. Finally, it was suggested that adherence rate measured by tablet count was
comparable to adherence rate confirmed by both methods, and that almost half of patients assumed to
be medication adherent did achieve appropriate blood pressure control compared to only 14% of those
assumed not to be medication adherent [Onzeroot et al, 2010]. In summary, non compliance and
diversion may limit provision of OAT. While providing treatment via DoT can curb diversion, it may
be associated with reduced compliance. In addition, other measures applied with the objective of
achieving optimal compliance and minimal diversion include tablet counting, and UDS are not
effective if applied alone in monitoring compliance. Therefore, developing reliable tools for
monitoring compliance may contribute to optimising treatment outcomes. 5.2. Psychosocial
interventions A meta analysis of 35 studies examining the impact of adding psychosocial treatments in
4319 patients receiving OAT concluded that there is no value for adding psychosocial treatment to
OAT in treatment retention with a relative risk (RR) of 1.03. Similarly, there was no value found in
adding psychosocial treatments to OAT over OAT alone in achieving negative drug screens with

Eurocentric Beauty Standards Of African American Women
Eurocentric beauty standards focus on European features as the basis of beauty. Features such as pale
skin, straight hair and light eyes are commonly accepted rather than kinky hair, dark eyes, and dark
skin. In the past, these standards have been linked to colorism, discrimination and even self hatred.
The standards have been imposed on the women of the world, but they have affected African
American women for centuries. Although some black women are now more accepting of who they
are, experts agree that they are still affected by the standards. There are some disagreements on
whether black women are as vulnerable to the effects of the standards in today s time. Black women

Eurocentric beauty standards have both negative and positive effects. Negatively, they have set an

Where Angels Fear to Tread, by E.M. Forster
Fools rush in where angels fear to tread, is a saying is commonly used to emphasize how ignorance
can result in decisions that lead to unfavorable situations. Likewise, in Where Angels Fear to Tread,
Edward Morgan Forster uses irony, point of view, and satire to effectively emphasize how stereotypes,
prejudices, misunderstanding of cultural differences, and hypocrisy could lead to unfavorable
circumstances. Where Angels Fear to Tread begins as a light and comedic novel but later develops to
become more dense and tragic.
The novel starts off in a train station in England where a widow named Lilia Herriton prepares to

Forster also uses satire to criticize the emphasis placed on class and cultural differences by the
Herritons and other citizens of Sawston, England. Mrs. Herriton, after hearing of Lilia s engagement,
sends Philip to break up the engagement, not because she wanted to protect Lilia, but because she
wanted to protect her own social status which would be tarnished if Lilia were to marry an
unemployed foreigner. Forster also uses the story of the Italian saint, Santa Deodata to satirize the
behavior of the Herritons. Santa Deodata s story is shown in the following excerpt:
So holy was she that all her life she lay upon her back in the house of her mother, refusing to eat,
refusing to play, refusing to work. The devil, envious of such sanctity, tempted her in various
ways...When all proved vain, he tripped up the mother and flung her downstairs before her very eyes.
But so holy was the saint that she never picked her mother up, but lay upon her back through all, and
thus assured her throne in Paradise. (Forster, 396)
This story of a girl who lacked concern for her mother is used to criticize the Herritons and other
English people lack love for their family and place social status and formal convention over their own
relatives.
The use of these literary devices in the novel was effective in placing emphasis on the key

Community Reflection Paper
For the service learning project, I teamed up with three of my classmates to volunteer at a lady s
conference at Imani Restoration Centre church (IRCC) on the 16th of September, 2017. IRCC is a non
profit organization which is a Kenyan community founded that focuses on bringing African
immigrants together to support and learn the things of God. Samuel Mwangi, the senior pastor of
IRCC, said that through the counseling sessions that he holds at the church every Thursday, he
discovered that most ladies go through the same challenges. Therefore, he thought it would be great
for him to organize a lady s conference, so that ladies could come together to share and support each
other (Personal communication, September, 16, 2017)
The ladies conference was held in the church building, and we were assigned to take care of the
children and assist with feeding the congregation. The meeting was starting at 8:00 am; However, we
arrived 30 minutes earlier to help with the arrangement of the furniture. The ladies began dropping
their kids to the daycare room around 8:15 am. I could not help noticing that most ladies seemed
overwhelmed and tired though there was this particular lady who came with tears dripping her face.
We were assigned about 35 kids to take care of throughout the conference. The children ages ranged
from 3 to 12 years. We assigned the children into groups according to their age. The first group was
for ages 3 to 5 the second was for ages 6 to 8, and the third was for ages 9 to 12. We served the kids
bacon, scrambled eggs, pancakes, and sausages for breakfast at 9.30 am. I could not help noticing the
joy in the kid s faces, and one kid told me that the meal was the best breakfast she ever had. We kept
the children engaged with games, Tv shows, and sessions of activities such as storytelling and singing.
We also performed some indoor sports which most kids did not want the session to end.
The members of the church had supplied the conference with African food, pizza, and drinks for
lunch. Most children preferred to eat pizza while the ladies chose to eat the African cuisine. We first
made sure that all the kids were fed before attending to their mothers around noon. At three o clock we

My Best Friends Invited Me With Pizza And A Friendly Game...
My best friends invited me over for pizza and a friendly game of cards and the Broca s area, which
deals with language and speech; the hippocampus, that plays a crucial part in memory; the
hypothalamus, partly controlling my body s endocrine and hormone producing system and the
occipital lobe allowing me to see all that goes on around me, all are parts of my brain which was
involved during the evening of eating pizza, socializing, and playing cards with my friends.
First, the part of the brain that is responsible for higher forms of thought such as language, the broca s
area which pertains to the production of speech, located in the frontal lobe, is much needed for
communication with my friends. When I first seen my friends it was the broca s area that allowed me
to speak smoothly and fluently to them, and as we sat around the table together eating pizza and
playing cards it was this part of the brain that indorsed my friends and I to socialize as it helps
everyone talk to one another. The Wernicke s area that is affiliated with the broca s area is the part of
the brain that helps understand the meaning of words.
Second, the entire trip to my friend Tiffany s house, I had the part of my brain called the hippocampus
to thank, for it is the part of the brain that deals with the memory of the physical arrangement of the
things in my environment. The hippocampus is my mental memory map that reminded me how to get

for the implementations to work to their full potential. I have explained how the Love Canal is also
classified as a top man made disaster and with regular toxin monitoring and some assessments to
policies, the area is no longer harmful to nearby residents or schools. Though Hurricane Katrina was a
major disaster and impacted poor African American s the hardest, the Corps did learn from the disaster
and conducted a project that involved fixing more than half the system of levees, canals, and
floodwalls. I was very pleased to learn that the Corps is continuing to monitor the waterway system
and even published an updated map showing block by block where flooding would likely occur if a
100 year hurricane were to strike Layzer pg. 555). Hurricane Katrina has been one of the most
expensive disasters ever recorded. However, the extent of the damages to the city of New Orleans
could have been minimized with regular monetarization and assessment of the waterway system of the

Discuss The Role Of Comedy In Shakespeare And Lyly
In order to reach understanding of the historical role of comedy in England, of its nature and the
overall literary value, it is necessary to study the social circumstances of its development, with a
survey of chief authors and works. After the times of Moralities, Christian moral allegories in dramatic
form, Renaissance brought development of the so called learned comedy under classical influence,
with a decisive role in the formation of comedy proper. The age of Tudors and early Stuarts was that
of transition from feudal order to commercial capitalism. The absolute monarchy was a reflection and
instrument of this transition, a process begun as early as the 14th century. The society of Shakespeare
s times (cca.1580 1625) was a shifting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alexander s friend Hephaestion tries to dissuade him from his infatuation, but he persists until it
becomes clear that Campaspe and Appeles are true lovers and that he has no chance. Beside this main
plot, melodramatic and sensational, there is a subplot of little dramatic interest, Alexander s
convocation of Greek philosophers, whom he has called together to try their knowledge. The chief
attraction of these scenes for Lyly s audience must have been to see the greatest figures of Greek
philosophy, Plato and Aristotle among them, displaying their knowledge. But the display, made out of
the scraps of Lyly s classical learning, is rather shallow and almost boring. Apart from these stands a

embittered misanthrope, full of hate and spite. However, his hatred of the world remains
psychologically unexplained and therefore unconvincing. All these persons have servants, who make a
group apart, meeting frequently without their masters to crack jokes at their expense or mock at one
another, or carry out little intrigues on their masters behalf or against them. Such a group will be
present in all of Lyly s comedies: the servants are thus given a role of fools, and more rarely that of
plot makers, in the Plautian

How Do People Change In Midnight In Paris
It was a good book because it was an honest book. Ernest Hemingway s character in Midnight in
Paris. This paper believes this quote to be true and will work in order to prove it. This paper will
discuss how people change in Paris, or how Paris changes a person completely. It will look at the topic
in three ways, through Woody Allen s movie, Midnight in Paris, through Hemingway s book, A
Moveable Feast and an average everyday student who just moved to Paris. The motive of this paper is
to show and relate to how the city of Paris, the people and the art changes people. What kind of people
it attracts and what it gives to them as well as takes from them. This paper believes a movie, a book
and a layman would be a perfect panel for explaining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He feels very out of place in his time (2011) and lives in denial as said by his would be wife. He
wishes to live in Paris in the 1920 s, during rains with the artists that crowded the city at the time.
Beautifully directed, the protagonist, on one of his midnight walks comes across a 1920 s car and is
persuaded by the people accompanying it to go along with them. He is taken to a party where he hears
Cole Porter singing nearby on a piano, and meets Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald. They start talking to
him, and while Pender is confused as to what is happening to him, he realizes that he is in fact not in
his time. He has traveled back in time to the 1920 s. He then meets Ernest Hemmingway, Salvador
Dali, Pablo Picasso, Gertrude Stein, Man Ray, Luis Bunuel and hears about Modigliani, Miro and a
few other artists. During his time in the 1920 s, he successfully gives his book to Gertrude Stein to
read and critique it, while falling in love with Picasso s mistress Adriana (the character is supposedly
based off Marion Cotillard in the movie). He realizes that he is falling in love with Adriana and asks

Communication 382 Haobang Lu 3/6/15 CHAPTER ONE 1.0 Introduction 1.1 Background Quite a number of social scientific researches in the communication mainstream are developing at a faster rate, particularly researches with a purpose of determining the relationship between the social networking sites (the use of Instagram) and narcissism. It is therefore quite in order to explicitly establish an appropriate technique of variable determination and hypothesis testing to effectively address the concern of the relationship between narcissism and the frequency of active usage of Instagram (Ames Anderson, 2006). Most previous researches have presented an objective opinion that a variety of social networking behaviors conceptualizes the notion of Narcissism. The concept of gender disparity and age differences have tremendously influenced the findings of most previous researches (Jayson, 2009). The fact that quite a number of social networking sites are actively used by most young adults, college students and teenagers establishes several variations in conceptualizing an ideal connection between narcissism and use of Instagram. The paper addresses the concept of narcissism and establishes the fact it is perceived and used in reference to subclinical narcissism (Bergman et al., 2011). Subclinical narcissism is perceived as a humanity trait that exist at various levels of age differences within the normal population. On the same note, subclinical narcissism ... • 6. Platinum Box Case Study Essay Executive Summary The new business venture to produce quality boxes for the U.S market has created a requirement for Platinum Box to source five new presses. The three bids to supply these presses were from Merakuri, Jabaking and Pnutype. Each bid had its attributes over the other. Finding a way to fairly evaluate each bid was needed. A Weighted Evaluation System was chosen. Four factors were used to evaluate the bids. They are: Performance Quality, Service, Price (total cost of purchase determines the pricing factor) and Financing. By applying a value to each, a better evaluation of the bids can be made. Performance Quality was perceived to be of utmost importance to the point where the success of the project depended on it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Schopenhauer s Criticism of Kant s Analysis of Object Essay Schopenhauer s Criticism of Kant s Analysis of Object Schopenhauer makes it clear that he is indebted to Kant for his vision of transcendental idealism, and that his Critique of Pure Reason [2] is a work of genius. However, Schopenhauer argued that Kant made many mistakes when formulating his philosophy, and he set about the task of uncovering them in his Criticism of the Kantian Philosophy, an appendix to be found in The World as Will and Representation [1]. In this essay I wish to analyse the criticism made against Kant s determination of an object, since this is an important factor if we are to comprehend how we understand reality. Only with the concept of the chair does the chair become known. Concepts are essential if we are to perceive the world: in no other way can an object be given to us [2; B33]. Thus, for Kant, intuition and thought complement one another: thoughts without content are empty, intuitions without concepts are blind [2; B75]. The scope of the concept of object goes further than the example I have given immediately suggests: it does not just deal with an object that I perceive at one particular time, but can deal with the object at different times, and at different positions in space. Thus, to take the example of the particular chair I am looking at, the same concept of the chair synthesizes my immediate intuition, along with the chair as it was yesterday when, I recall, it was in another room, and also with any expectation I have of the chair tomorrow. The concept is able to synthesize all of these manifold phenomena across time and space. It picks out those features that make it the same chair; for example, that it is a particular shape and colour, and that it has a particular scratch mark on one of its legs. Bringing Thinking into Perception Schopenhauer s first criticism of Kant is that he brings thinking into perception [1; p.439]. As we have seen, for Kant, an object is not perceived meaningfully for what it is, until it is thought. Yet, this seems odd, because it seems to me that I do not have ... Assistive Technology Solutions Technological advances have increased access to the curriculum for students with learning disabilities. Assistive technology are the devices and services used to maintain or improve the capabilities of a student with a disability (Dell, Newton, Petroff, 2011). Through these technologies, students with learning disabilities are able to complete tasks in the classroom that they were otherwise, unable to achieve. Prior to the availability of assistive technology, a student who was unable to use their hands or arms, would not have been able to write or type on a computer in the classroom. Additionally, students unable to read because of visual disabilities, or reading disabilities such as dyslexia, had a difficult time accessing information in the traditional classroom setting. Assistive Technology Software There are a variety of computer software programs and hardware designs available to use for students with disabilities. These assistive technology designs help the student to access information they were unable to do before. Text to speech software, such as Kurzweil 3000, reads the material aloud to the student. Analysis Of The Poem The Lighthouse Safiya Rasheed Mrs. Derrow AP English III February 15, 2015 The Meaning of Life in Woolf s To the Lighthouse Life, when viewed as a compilation of fleeting memories and moments, seems chaotic, miserable and causes one to question the purpose of it. Each of the characters of To the Lighthouse struggle with this same realization and all strive to find permanence and meaning within their lives. While the characters search for the meaning of life within their realms of experience, ultimately they all fail to find lasting meaning. To the Lighthouse, a novel structured by Woolf as deeply involved in the consciousness of the characters, their perception of meaning in the world, and the ephemeral nature of life, ultimately suggests that although the goal of finding meaning in life is unattainable, it is the struggle for balance and meaning that achieves purpose and self contentment. Throughout the novel, the lighthouse symbolizes the ultimate destination, as it represents the moment the characters find the true meaning of life. Once the characters complete the journey to the lighthouse they are able to embrace the ephemeral nature of life and find meaning within it. Why do some groups make good decisions while others make bad ones? Their model argues that the answer to this question has to do with whether the group has successfully accomplished four functions, which they call requisite functions (pg.141). The four functions of this theory are problem analysis, goal setting, identify alternatives, and evaluate and select. Problem analysis is when the group focuses on the nature, extent and likely causes of the problem. This requires the group to be careful when differentiating between problems and the symptoms of the problems. Goal setting is when the group identifies what an ideal solution would look like. The group decides what elements are necessary and what elements are ideal but not necessary. Identifying alternatives is when the group generates a large number of possible solutions. This is when the group wants to brainstorm as many possible solutions, no matter what the quality of the solution is. Finally, evaluate and select is when the group evaluate each alternative using the established goals. Examples From The Film Goal setting is the first example that I found in the film. Case studies of different patients such as Phineas Gage have helped to learn about the different functions of the brain and how they work together to perform complex activities. According to Veronica LaCapra s report, Landfill Fire Threatens Nuclear Waste Site Outside St. Louis. if the Westlake Landfill s soil is disarranged, radioactive dust particles could be released into the atmosphere. Unfortunately, it may lead to the inhalation of airborne radioactive dust particles. If these particles are inhaled by workers it could seriously harm their health. The EPA suggested that continued monitoring is advised and necessary, due to possible elevated levels of radon in the air at the landfill and the surrounding area. It seems full safety processes must be put into place to reduce harmful dusting to protect everyone from potential exposure during any cleanups. Even though the residents of North St. Louis, the EPA and other authorities have their points of view, further serious claims continue to be revealed. He heard sailors speaking Spanish, French and German in the Portland streets and liked stories set in foreign places ( Poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow ). Henry Wadsworth Longfellow was a very popular Romanticist poet during the 18th century. This love of reading and interest in foreign languages lead him into the Romanticism movement. In his lifetime he wrote various different poems that are still studied and enjoyed today. Longfellow s traveling and studies of different languages helped form him into the light Romanticist writer that he is known for today, as demonstrated in Footsteps of Angels and Aftermath . Longfellow achieved many different things in his lifetime. When it was time for him to go to college, his father sent him off to Bowdoin, with hopes that he would become a lawyer. Instead when Longfellow was there he became strongly affiliated with languages. He was so proficient in this area that, Bowdoin created for him a professorship of modern languages, (Baym, Franklin, et al 628). The school not only noticed his work, but created a new major because of it. His new association with languages lead him to a trip to Europe for three years, to discover even more about this subject. • 29. Distance Education Essay Distance Education Distance education is a process that creates and provides access to learning when time and distance separate the source of information and the learners (Zhang, 1998, p.1). Distance education defies time and space and can help create a virtual schoolhouse, or a classroom without walls (Wheat, 1998, p.1). The need to take the distance out of education has not been driven largely by sheer need to bridge physical separations. It has been based mainly on providing access as open as possible to those who are willing to avail themselves of the opportunities education affords them (Tam, 1998, p.3). Education needs to reach those who are disadvantaged by location, finance, time, and resources (Tam, 1998, p.3). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Arlene Krebs of New Orbit Communications, we have the third wave [of distance learning], where distance learning is a combination of video and Internet (Hancock, 1999, p.2). However, creators of distance learning tend to worry about how it looks more than being sensitive to what the learner really needs (Hancock, 1999, p.2). What Does the Distance Education Learner Really Need (and where does the instructional technologist come into play)? Distance learning, which is a form of multimedia, depends on a rich interactive environment to foster learning (Hancock, 1999, p.1). The challenge for distance educators is to set up a cognitively rich learning environment to facilitate the distant students construction processes (Zhang, 1998, p.4). Modern distance education is student centered, not teacher centered...distance educators are facilitators of their students education (Markel, 1999, p.3). Learner centric theories focus on the importance of the learner over the instructor to the instructional activity (Leonard, 1999, p.3). The new paradigm [for distance learning] is a more ... Results revealed discrepancy between both methods in evaluating adherence and suggested that interpretation of compliance should not rely on one method, as there is no single objective and reliable measure of compliance. Finally, it was suggested that adherence rate measured by tablet count was comparable to adherence rate confirmed by both methods, and that almost half of patients assumed to be medication adherent did achieve appropriate blood pressure control compared to only 14% of those assumed not to be medication adherent [Onzeroot et al, 2010]. In summary, non compliance and diversion may limit provision of OAT. While providing treatment via DoT can curb diversion, it may be associated with reduced compliance. In addition, other measures applied with the objective of achieving optimal compliance and minimal diversion include tablet counting, and UDS are not effective if applied alone in monitoring compliance. Therefore, developing reliable tools for monitoring compliance may contribute to optimising treatment outcomes. 5.2.
