The Teachings and Influence of Bill Gothard
Introduction:
Influencing hundreds of thousands of people over the span of fifty years, Bill Gothard has become an
icon of Christian counseling in the United States and in the world at large. His work in determining
the basic conflicts in the hearts of people and his devotion to creating a Bible based community and
curriculum for homeschooling families has made him a powerful leader in the realm of Christian
counseling and teaching and has endeared him to many. His counseling style has affected thousands of
preachers and teachers who follow his methods, and so it is important to understand the principles
behind Gothard s doctrines. To fully understand Gothard s teachings, one must first understand the
world of psychological counseling. According to the American Counseling Association, counselors
help clients identify goals and potential solutions to problems which cause emotional turmoil... In
essence counseling helps people understand their problems and gives them tools to deal with these
issues. Although the goal of counseling remains the same across the board, the beliefs and
presuppositions of individual counselors affect the methods and techniques they implement in their
counseling. For the secular psychological counselor, the focus is ego centric. The goal of counseling is
to give the client a better life and a happier outlook on life so that he can achieve even greater things
for himself. For the Christian, the goal of counseling is to bring the client into a closer

Caligari And Metropolis
The banned of foreign films by the German government led to an increase of domestic film
productions, giving way for film artist to embrace the change and experiment with bold ideas and
artistic styles to make up for their lack of budgets. Such film includes The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
(Robert Wiene, 1920) and Metropolis (Fritz Lang, 1927) often dealt with plots concerning with
insanity, betrayal, authority and other issues that were triggered by WWI. This paper will primarily
discuss on how these silent films disregard realism because of Germany s unconventional shift
towards Modernism and its socio political conditions. The second part of this paper will enlighten on
how German Expressionist film acts as an influence in the cinematic world.

Caligari and Metropolis identify as an Expressionist film mainly because of its unusual lighting, the
stylisation of the sets and dramatic acting (Elsaesser 20). The practitioner were also able to produce, a
set of gothic study materials, fairytale motifs, angular exteriors, claustrophobic interiors and above all
, in Elsaesser s words, excess of soul ascribed to things still typically German (20). These progressive
trends practiced by Expressionist artist help to create subjective perspectives in the German s
cinematic world, distorting it radically in order to stir emotional effects, and evoking progressive
moods and ideas for the spectators. Clearly, these socially progressive trends of activism to create, and
improve conventional films through experiments and the use of techniques that draws attention is a
typical act of Modernism (Berman 16). With their gradual modernistic ideas, German Expressionist

Evaluating The Current Incremental Budgeting System
1.1 Executive Summary This report reviews the company s current incremental budgeting system,
explores the beyond budgeting approach and looks at the alternative flexible methods available. In
Summary, although the managing director could continue to use the incremental system, it is
recommended that an Activity Based Costing strategy is adopted. Although the current incremental
method is simple and easy to understand, it has many drawbacks making it unsuitable for today s
economic environment. 1.2 Objectives Taking into consideration the current economic climate, to
investigate how beneficial a beyond budgeting approach would be, in regards to flexibility and
financial control of the business. To also explore the possibility of adopting an Activity Based Costing
system and the benefits it would bring to the company. Lastly, after reviewing the benefits and
shortcomings of all three methods of budgeting, determine which method is the most suitable for the
managing director. 1.3 Background to budgeting The process of budgeting is one of the most
important management tools available to a business, particularly in today s current economic climate.
It serves three major purposes; coordinating activities and tasks, motivating employees and allows for
forecasting of future developments and events in order to prepare for the future of the business
effectively (Weber, 2005). 2.1 Incremental Budgeting According to M.M Ibrahim and R.A Proctor

Mrs Warren s Profession And The Ruined Maid
Being female has a long history of being considered lesser than the male counterpart, the same is true
for female sexuality. While modern times have come to accept female sexuality in all its forms, past
literature often dealt with it through the act of prostitution. Both George Bernard Shaw s Mrs. Warren
s Profession and Thomas Hardy s The Ruined Maid deal with the representation of female sexuality
through prostitution and brothels. This is portrayed as empowering for the women involved despite
societal conditions forcing this role, yet deals with the reaction from society very differently. Both
texts also deal with the social stigma that surrounds prostitution and the utilization of female sexuality
in different way while both having the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Mrs. Warren s Profession, the concept of women viewing prostitution and brothels as the only
means for upward social mobility or even just survival is not shied away from. In a preface from the
play in 1902, Shaw himself is quoted as saying No normal woman would be a professional prostitute
if she could better herself by being respectable . This also ties into the reason that Mrs. Warren is not
portrayed as helpless or a victim for being a prostitute/ part of the brothel, rather having the blame
placed on the societal and economic conditions that led to her choosing this occupation (Liggins 50).
This also ties back to Shaw s intention of throwing the responsibility and guilt of Mrs. Warren s
choices back on the British public themselves rather than on the individual. This sentiment is also felt
in The Ruined Maid , as it proposes that the only reason for Melia s current place in society is due to
her being ruined, as prior she was poor and uneducated on the farm (Hardy 5 11). The text alludes that
her pre marital fornication allowed her upward mobility, and it may have been the only way to achieve
it. Through being ruined, Melia has improved herself both socially and intellectually (Renner 25).
Another comparison between the two texts is the acceptance of other female characters that the
decision made good financial sense to join the

The White Race Of American Indian Movement
No, I am not the guilty one here and should be called a criminal. The white race of American is the
criminal for the destructions of our lands and my people. Leonard Peltier is an imprisoned Native
American who is considered by Amnesty International and the National Congress of American
Indians, a political prisoner who should be immediately and unconditionally released. Leonard Peltier
was a leading member of the American Indian Movement (AIM) an activist group and an
organization, which seek to encourage and defend Native American Indian rights during a period of
intense conflicts in the 1970s. On June 26, 1975, a confrontation involving AIM members and FBI
agents occurred that led to the death of two federal officers Ronald Williams and Jack Coler. On June
1, 1977 Leonard Peltier was sentenced to two life terms for the deaths of two FBI agents. To this day,
the Peltier case has been saturated in secrecy. Although he never denies he was there when the
shooting happened, he always insists he never killed the FBI agents. Peltier grew up in poverty, and
survived many disturbing experiences from certain U.S government policies that were intended to get
rid of Native People. His large family of 13 brothers and sisters worked in large Potato fields. Most of

The Popularity Of The College Dropout
It s been almost twelve years since The College Dropout hit the airwaves. An album that would go on
and mold so many artists of today s rap scene. Since then we have seen Chicago s beloved Kanye
West, the I miss the sweet Kanye, chop up the beats Kanye slowly transform into the egocentric Yezus
persona that we have amongst us today. Not to say that Kanye has stopped making his all world beats
and delivering Grammy worthy albums. He has just evolved. And with his evolution, a void was left
in rap as we knew it. The College Dropout has been a prominent source of inspiration, love, and
happiness in my life since the days of those 5 hour car rides with the big bro. It was one of the few CD

Good ass Intro is an up beat testament to Chance changing both as an artist and as a person. The four
minutes that follow work by on skittering rhymes and slippery wordplay, ending with a line
proclaiming this to already be your favorite album. He speaks on his life since the release of 10 Day
and vows to be better than the last time. The track really sets the tone for what is to come.
The most lyrically rich track comes next as a two part analysis of the cities violence. After a few
minutes of boasting of getting women, becoming famous, and selling only the finest of ganja, and
after a silent 20 second break, Chance lyrically pours all his feelings on the violence and paranoia he
has had to witness and endure. Though while he s rolling with a gun on his hip, a blunt on his lip, he s
not mirroring the violence, but admitting to the accompanying fear and hoping for change. Something
that a lot of Chicago rappers could take note of. He wants to be Captain save the hood asking media
members and really the white community why no one cares about the travesty that is the hood. They
murking kids, they murder kids here. Why you think they don t talk about it? They deserted us here.

Health Maintenance Organization Act Of 1973
I was astounded by the beginning stages of the Health Maintenance Organization Act of 1973 which
were presented using a talk between John Ehrlichman and President Richard Nixon; Ehrlichman is
heard uncovering to Nixon that ...the less care they give them, the more money they make, a course of
action that Nixon remarked fine and not horrendous.

encapsulates various morals worth celebrating. Clearly, expressing profound gratitude to God for the
enrichments he has endeavored on this country is more than fitting. It seems, by all accounts, to be, in
any case, that some on the religious right go advance when they talk about American Exceptionalism.

Mark Twain s novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884), commonly known as Huckleberry
Finn or Huck Finn, colorfully depicts people and places along the great Mississippi River. the novel
contains a collection of themes which transcend time and cultural boundaries. It tells of a poor white
buy running from a brutal parent, and an African American man attempting to escape and free his
himself from slavery. The main character, Huckleberry Finn, spends much time in the novel floating
down the Mississippi River on a raft with a runaway slave named Jim. Before he does so, however,

Huck is opposed to the Jim s quest for freedom. Their meetings together, however, radically changed
not only Huck s perception about slavery, life and people as a whole. Jim and Huck reside on Jackson
Island for a time as they wait out bad weather. One night they come upon not just a raft but an entire
house floating down river which eventually becomes their mode of transportation. While inspecting
the house, Jim discovers Pap s dead body in one of the rooms. He hides Pap s face from Huck and
does not reveal his true identity. Huck decides he wants to find out the latest happenings in the local
area so he disguises himself as a girl and travel into town. He learns from a woman that Jim has been
accused of killing Pap and that there is a $ 300.00 award for his capture. The woman is suspect of
Huck s identity and forces Huck to reveal himself when he has trouble threading a need. Fleeing

Jen Neff Research Paper
Growing up, those around me might have come to the conclusion that I was spoiled by my parents.
Now I agree, they help me out when needed, take me shopping every once in a while, and make sure I
don t hit rock bottom; however, I have always felt their love to be conditional. As long as I get good
grades, follow the rules, and clean my room, then I get an I am so proud of you speech at the end of
the day. My parents are very conservative, not only did I grow up in the church, I also attended a
Christian school since pre school all the way to my senior year in high school. During those 15 years
of my life, it was continually repeated to love one another, and love your enemy . I was always taught
how to love other people, yet was never shown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Usually in my life I will experience a few negative emotions and thoughts and then briefly affirm that
what I am believing is untrue and then switch my mind to something different. I also have journals
that I will write in every once in a while, but it isn t something I use for overcoming negative
emotions. Coming from a conservative, religious family I have always heard that meditation is bad.
While Neff practices Buddhist meditation and uses some of these ideas in her programs to teach self
compassion, after listening to one of the meditation podcasts, I can see the benefit. The meditation
practices she developed helps one relax, become more self aware, and focused on thoughts of love and
compassion not only towards oneself but also towards others. Another aspect that I had not taken into
consideration is the difference between self compassion and self esteem. As Neff explains, self esteem
is basically one s perceived value and worth; however, it is contingent on how one is compared to
another. I have never looked at self esteem being a problematic, negative term, now I understand the
aspects of it that can be detrimental to ones well being. Always striving to have high self esteem leads
us to put other people down in the process, it also insinuates that we have to be perfect and better to be
worthy, which is the opposite of what Neff s concept of self compassion entails. Our society thrives on
the idea that one has to be better than their counterpart, what we lack is this idea of self compassion.
Therefore, I think it would be very beneficial to teach self compassion in children; this may lead to an
overall more compassionate generation that flourishes on how we can help each other and ourselves

Arguments Against Dna Testing
Discussion #3
DNA testing has been around for many years. DNA testing was first used to determine paternity
(Schwartz 2016). Today, DNA is not only used in paternity cases, but it is also used in criminal justice.
DNA in the criminal justice was first used in 1986 in the United Kingdom. Dr. Alec J. Jeffreys was
accused for two rape murders and later proven innocent by DNA testing (The Malaysian Journal of
Medical Sciences, 2003). Even if this method is reliable most of the time, there are times where the
DNA expert might make a mistake, might be rigged or there might be an unknown bias.
Unfortunately, because of this innocent individual are wrongfully accused of a crime they did not
commit. Dr. Itel Dror wanted to test this theory. In a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dror believes that fingerprints are a reliable forensic evidence in today s trials. He also believes that
fingerprints are more reliable than eyewitness testimonies. However, since fingerprints are identified
by very highly skilled professional, they are still humans and mistakes can in fact happen either
honestly or intentionally. He also stated that in most cases, fingerprint evidence has been more reliable
and can be important in order to prove someone s innocence or find a criminal. I personally, agree
with Dr. Dror s opinion on fingerprint evidence being more reliable than eyewitness testimony. Like
he stated on the video, the mind is not like a camera. It does not take a video which we can later see
and quickly catch the person responsible for a crime. Another reason of why I agree with Dr.Dror s, is
because the mind is very easy to trick. Memories can be altered just by discussing the subject with
someone else, either someone involved in the crime or by being asked leading questions by
authorities. Statistics show that 70% of wrongful convictions caused by eyewitness testimony are
overturned by DNA testing. (Innocence project, nd). As Dr. Dror said, the DNA expert might make
some mistakes, DNA testing is still better and more reliable than eyewitness

Hybrid Cars Essay
Hybrid Cars
In my basic presentation, I examined the practicality of HEVs (Hybrid Electric Vehicles), otherwise
known as hybrids. The presentation gave some background about laws pertaining to emissions but at
the same time was designed more to educate the consumer as to what a hybrid actually is. You do not
plug it in!
Current Emission Standards are confusing. At this point in time, we are at a major transition as to what
will be the future of combustion vehicles. Present day standards do not call for the kind of emission
requirements that will account for the current rate of global warming. To fix this problem we must
either cut back on the number of vehicles on the road (not likely to happen) or use less fuel. There are

The increased fuel efficiency of the hybrids actually makes city driving more economical than
highway driving. Overall fuel efficiency (MPG) can be doubled. All of these factors lead to reduced
emissions.
At this point, it would be appropriate to include a brief summary of the Emission Standards as
proposed by the EPA. The Federal mandates on emissions include Tier 1 and Tier 2. Tier 1 took effect
in 1997 and was the first call for a reduction in emissions since the 50s. Tier 2 will be phased in
beginning 2004. Currently, Tier 1 standards take into account the size of the car when determining
emission ratings. When Tier 2 takes effect, the size of the car will no longer matter (i.e. an SUV will
be held to the same standards as a subcompact car). The Tier 1 and Tier 2 guidelines only apply to
passenger cars. Buses, trucks, and construction equipment will have different mandates.
The National LEV (NLEV) standard goes hand in hand with the California Emissions Standards
(developed by the CARB: California Air Resources Board). NLEV is short for the National Low
Emission Vehicle Standard. California came up with its own guidelines for emissions which are more
rigid than today?s Tier 1 standard. The Federal Government adopted this standard into its NLEV
program. It is a voluntary program that was proposed mostly by California and the Northeast US.
NLEV has been adopted to carry car designs from Tier 1 into Tier 2. The NLEV program consists of

Darvocet, Darvon And Propoxyphene Products Liability Litig
The Plaintiff (Rector) likely has a strong argument that she should survive summary judgment because
there is a question of material fact on product identification. Courts have consistently held that a brand
name drug manufacturer cannot be held liable for injuries caused by a generic form of the drug they
produce. In re Darvocet, Darvon, and Propoxyphene Products Liability Litig., 756 F.3d 917, 940 (6th

to apply a low standard for product identification. Courts have been reluctant to grant summary
judgment on product identification even when the plaintiff has minimal evidence that they took the
brand name drug. In several cases, just the plaintiff s testimony about the brand of the drug she took
was sufficient to create a question of material fact. Furthermore, courts have held defendants to a high
standard on counter evidence and have generally required nearly conclusive records to discount a
plaintiff s evidence. However, Pfizer can point to several cases that favorably discuss brand names and
their generic uses, so Pfizer does have arguments it can make to push for summary judgment. This ...

William Shakespeare has some of the most memorable villains in all of drama. One of them is known
as Iago. Many people argue that Iago was the protagonist but that simply is not true. People also think
that since Iago manipulates Othello, they think the reasoning behind this is because Iago truly thinks
he is being honest, kind and steering him onto the right path. This is not right since Iago knows what
he is doing. Iago is the villain in Shakespeare s play, Othello, uses morals to prove that Iago is the

with his nobleness. Iago should be inspired by Othello by how he is noble, strong and kind. And what

The textbook says, The Egyptians depended on the sun to grow their crops and on the Nile River to
make the soil fertile. Thus, two of the most crucial gods were the sun god Re and the river god Hapi
(HAH pee). Another important god was Osiris (oh SY ruhs). According to legend, Osiris was an early
pharaoh who gave the Egyptian people laws and taught them farming.
What are some characteristics of the ancient Egyptian religion/belief system?
Most characteristics of the belief system relates to the afterlife:
They thought that the pharaoh s soul resided in his body, and that the body had to be protected in order
for the soul to complete the journey to the afterlife.

Don John Character Analysis
When thinking about the well known comedy Much Ado About Nothing, by William Shakespeare the
audience is quick to focus on the wit and comedy that the play has to offer, rather than the understated
villain who easily disappears in the background. While reading the play, one can posit that Don John
is not the typical villain who acts with a specific motive in mind, rather, he is acting out of an
obligation he feels to serve as an antagonist considering his position as a bastard. This is demonstrated
in his dialogue, which reveals his inner turmoil on being chained to the villainous role and his
willingness to act on any malicious opportunity that presents itself to him. This is significant in that, it
provides another layer to our villain and causes the audience to think beyond the first layer that is
easily presented, and into the true inner motives of the character.
Don John claims that the resentment people have towards him is rooted in the fact that he is a bastard
and any friendly intentions towards him are fraudulent ones. From the beginning of the play Don John
does not come across as a friendly figure, especially compared to the rest of the soldiers that come
with the party to Messina in a flourish of good and excitement. As Leonato welcomes the party he
seems to implicate that he is extending the welcome on to Don John, because of his relationship with
Don Pedro, the prince and his brother. Don John remarks in a conversation, ...it better fits my blood to

Heterogenous Mixture Lab
Discussion: In this lab, we needed to determine the percent calcium carbonate in a heterogenous
mixture and determine the molar volume of carbon dioxide gas at 273 K and 760 torr. Calcium
Carbonate is found in many different types of substances and formulations. It is an important
inorganic compound found in the Earth s crust. We also used the idea of standard temperature and
pressure which means that one mole of an ideal gas occupies 22.4 L. Since carbon dioxide is not an
ideal gas, it s molar volume will be different. We need to calculate the CO2 gas evolved from the
reaction be collected, its volume, and the calculation of the mass difference of CaCO3 mixture before
and after the reaction. To calculate the molar volume of CO2 we use the following equation: ... Show

The Principles And Purpose Of Interactive Design
Search Method A wide search across the University library, Google Scholar and ACM Digital Library
and to widen the search out to popular literature from various magazines, blogs and articles was
conducted to discover information about the process of Design Thinking. To ensure the search results
were not overwhelmingly numerous, speech marks on the phrase Design Thinking were used before
entering it on the search engines. The purpose of this is to ensure there is appropriate information
returned. The books selected were Design Studies by Catherine Stones published in 2010, [8]; The
Principles Purpose of Interactive Design published by Jamie Steane in 2014 about the different ways
individuals design think [6], as well as, the book Wicked Problems in Design Thinking by Richard
Buchanan, broader understanding defining Wicked Problem early 1992 [3]. The aim for selecting
these books is because of their informative nature and the range of dates over which they were
published, which provides more information, both quite recent and then more of a design classic from
1992 [3]. Moreover, Tim Brown discussed in the Harvard Business Review in 2008 Design Thinking,
[2] and, Jon Kolko wrote an article about 20 Design Thinking Comes of Age [2]. This gives a clear
idea of different ways of Design Thinking. And Phil Brown recently discussed Why Design Thinking

Student In College Wired For Time Summary
(5) Student in College Pressed for Time A person can have the best memory however, it all comes
down to how someone studies. A common method of studying among students is cramming. We make
the mistake of devoting a big portion of our time to learning a material and over learn.
To avoid overlearning, students should take breaks after reviewing content. Some educators believe
that method of learning is an effective way to prolong long term retention and is common in schools.
For example, assignments for mathematics courses include similar problems, leading students to
overlearn.
Could some educators be correct in saying that there are benefits to overlearning? In experiments

point. Results proved that when they studied more, test performance was higher. ... Show more content

To correctly determine the benefits of overlearning, there are more studies measuring using

gains however those gains were nowhere to be found after four weeks. Other studies show that there
are only declining overlearning benefits. Overlearning can increase performance for a short amount of

The New Generation Research Paper
The effects of Social Technologies on the New Generation can best be understood through some of the
basic thoughts of Neil Postman in Five Things We Need to Know about Technological Change.
Technology giveth and technology taketh away. Technological change is not additive; it is ecological.
Postman clarifies this by saying, A new medium does not add something: it changes everything.
(Postman). Finally, Postman says, Our enthusiasm for technology can turn into a form of idolatry and
our belief in its beneficence can be a false absolute. (Postman).
Common descriptors for social technologies would be the internet and smart phones, technological

Priming Is Manipulating A Faster Response For A Target Word
A multiplicity of stimuli is continuously assaulting our senses of which some are pertinent to the

Analytical Essay on Dulce et Decorum Est
By ZA 2010 and 15 years of Age
British war poet, Wilfred Owen, incorporates many techniques of poetry writing in his works. As a
soldier, Owen often wrote poems which described the misery and hardships on the fronts of World
War One. To illustrate the image and scenes of the conflict, Owen uses an array of techniques which
can be noticed in his poem Dulce et Decorum Est
In the poem, Dulce et Decorum Est , Owen recollects the event of a gas attack on returning soldiers.
Owen writes the poem in his own voice and from his own experiences of war. He addresses the
misery, plight and hardships of war to his primary audiences in Britain. Owens main objective of

The slow rhythm relates with the slow and tired group of retreating soldiers. Words such as haunting
flares and trudge / sludge slow the poem and add heaviness. Rhythm increases at the beginning of the
gas attack (second stanza), as the soldiers scatter into panic. The tone then slows again as Owen
depicts the death of the soldier and delves into a reflective mood, as the wagon slowly departs with the
dead soldier. Owens uses words ending in ing to create a sense of heaviness and slowness in the pace
of the poem.
To illustrate the scene of the gas attack, Owen uses many poetic techniques.
Owen uses horrid and unpleasant forms of imagery to make the reader realise the reality of war.
Instantly from the opening lines, Owen makes an impact on the reader s impressions about war. Bent

Such phrases convey hardship, pitiful conditions and anguish of war. They are supported by detailed
visual descriptions such as, limped on, blood shod , floundering like a man on fire or lime , guttering,
choking, drowning , white yes writhing and come gargling from the froth corrupted lungs . These
images are striking and appealing to the reader. They illustrate an intolerable and unpleasant scene,
additionally exposing the lies of propaganda poster images.
Techniques such as similes also add to develop an ugly image. Such as, Bent double like old beggars

with an appropriate course of about 10 days of antibiotics including metronidazole or vancomycin

These experiments were conducted using skin cells from frog embryos and used a method known as
nuclear transplantation, or nuclear transfer. This process utilized a procedure known as enucleation in
which the nucleus of an egg cell is removed and replaced with the nucleus of a parent cell. The new
nucleus in the egg contains the same genetic material as the parent cell, and then, the fertilized egg
becomes an embryo. The nucleus and all genetic material in the egg having been replaced with the
genetic material of the parent cell, would now become an exact replica, or clone of the parent
organism. John Gurdon, a molecular biologist at Oxford University in England, conducted further
research using the method of nuclear transplantation in the 1960 s and 1970 s. In 1966, he was able to
produce adult frogs using nuclei from tadpole intestine cells. Obviously, this proved that any cells,
whether they be skin cells, blood cells, or even cells from an organism s intestinal tract could be used
to create an exact replica of that creature.
In the early 1980s, a much simpler cloning procedure, which is known as artificial twinning, was
developed. In this procedure, the early embryo is split into individual cells or groups of cells, which
happens naturally with twins, triplets, and other multiple births. This obviously allows each new cell
to develop into its own embryo, and then those embryos are

Nacl Affects on Enzymatic Reaction Essay
The Effects that 1%, 4%, and 16% Sodium Chloride (NaCl) Concentration Had on the Rate of
Reaction of Catecholase Enzymes in a Potato (Solanum tuberosum).
Abstract
Enzymes are a key component of a cell. They make chemical reactions happen faster because they
lower the activation energy to make the chemical reaction occur. Most of the time, it is best if enzymes
produce as efficiently as possible, but in some cases it is better if they do not, when dealing with
potatoes (Solanum tuberosum). If the catecholase enzyme of the potato is hindered, it is less likely to
brown when it is cooked. To see how efficient sodium chloride is at slowing down these enzymes, the
experiment measured the rate of reaction when the enzymes were exposed ... Show more content on

There are three factors that will alter an enzyme: temperature, pH and salt. All three will change the
structure of the enzyme by denaturation and rendering it useless when a drastic change occurs from
levels that are normal. A slight alteration can speed up reaction to certain saturation or slow the
process of reaction. Enzymes have a substrate: the substrate for the catecholase enzyme is catechol
and oxygen. When the substrate combines with the catecholase enzyme of a potato, the product is a
reddish brown color called benzoquinone. This product is what turns fruits and vegetables brown
(Briggs and others 2010). Therefore, slowing or stopping the process of would increase shelf life of
some food, or at least make the foods appearance appetizing much longer. The equation for this

Enzyme Substrate Product Catechol + Oxygen Catecholase Benzoquinone The hindering of the
Benzoquinone could alter the production, and could lower the cost of produce. Nathalie Santis and

all. All fourteen were blanched at 70°C for five minutes. Seven were placed in pure water at 26°C and

Genetic Engineering And The Canadian Regulation
Biotechnology is the application of scientific techniques and exploitation of biological processes used
to improve and modify animals, plants and microorganisms to enhance their value through genetic
manipulation. Over time, advances in the field of molecular biology has allowed scientists to take a
particular gene from any organism, including, bacteria, viruses, plants or animals, and introduce those
genes into another organism. An organism transformed using genetic engineering techniques is known
as transgenic organism (Independent learning center, 2012). This paper discusses the positive and
negative effects of genetically engineered organisms in agricultural applications and the Canadian
regulation or legislation that relates to this issue.
Many farmers in Canada have welcomed major crop plants produced by genetic engineering. Four
major transgenic crops including canola, corn, soy and sugar beet have been approved for commercial
production in Canada (Canada Agency, 2015). Transgenic organisms offer a range of benefits in the
agricultural applications. Over many years, transgenic organisms have helped increase crop
productivity by introducing drought tolerance and disease resistance to crops. Today, scientist has
been able to select genes for disease resistant from other organism and relocate them to essential
crops. For example, in the 1980, researchers from University of Hawaii teamed up with Cornell
University to develop a papaya cultivar resistant to papaya

Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs Theory
The motivation of a human being is an interesting subject. There many reasons for a person to do the
same action. There are also many theories of the motivation of a human being. For this paper, the
authors will look at the motivation of Theodore Roosevelt to fulfill Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs. We
will look how President Roosevelt was motivated to act throughout his life through each stage of the
Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs.
Maslow s Theory
The Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs theory is a theory that attempts to summarize motivation. Maslow s
theory is a biopsychosocial theory of motivation. A biopsychosocial theory means that it accounts for
the biological needs and the psychosocial needs of a person. (Carpenter Huffman, 2013) Maslow s
Hierarchy of Needs Theory was first developed by Abraham Maslow in a 1943 paper. (Maslow, 1943)
Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs Theory works simply. It says that a person will meet baser or more
primitive needs first before fulfilling more advanced or sophisticated needs. To the lay person, thus
seems to be true. The hierarchy of needs are in the following order from simple to complicated:
Physiological Needs Hunger, thirst, and maintenance of internal state of the body; Safety Needs to feel
secure and safe, to seek pleasure and avoid pain; Belonging and Love Needs to affiliate with others, be
accepted, and give and receive affection; Esteem Needs to achieve, be competent, gain approval, and
excel; and Self Actualization Needs

Hannukah
There are many holidays, secular and religious to chose from. Before deciding on your favorite one,
you have to think about what makes a good holiday. First, a good holiday has tradition. Remembering
past holidays and stories about how the holiday originated make a holiday memorable. A good holiday
also has to have lots of fun. Having fun during a holiday makes it a great break from regular life. The
last aspect that makes a holiday great is soothing the problems of daily life with family time. Enjoying
what you love with those you love is a great feeling. Based on this criteria, I feel the best holiday is
the Jewish holiday of Hannukah. One of the best parts of a holiday can be the tradition and stories
around it. Hannukah is the celebration

International Life Vs Doloney Case Summary
If International Life can prove fraudulent joinder of Maloney, the case is removable under diversity of
citizenship. In McCabe v. General Food Corp., the court held that when Plaintiff fails to state a cause
of action against the resident Defendant and the failure is obvious, the joinder is fraudulent. McCabe
v. General Food Corp., 811 F.2d 1336, 1339 (9th Cir. 1987). The defendants presented facts showing
the joinder was fraudulent. Id. Additionally, Defendants were fraudulently joined because they were
working in a managerial capacity. Id. General Food had ratified their actions. Id. If plaintiff alleged
they acted on their own initiative, then joinder was valid. Id. Similarly, International Life can show
that Maloney was working in the capacity of a salesperson during presentation in Alameda. The sales
pitch was standard for the company and the policy was not out of the ordinary. Plaintiff claims
Maloney received significant commissions for the sales. However, this does not equate to Maloney
acting on his own initiative. It is likely the court will hold that there was fraudulent joinder. Plaintiff s
allegations must show that Maloney s behavior was sufficient to prove he is liable. Maloney s
commissions for the sale of insurance policies are insufficient evidence that he acted ... Show more

The Illegal Immigration Issue And The Security Of The U.S.
The illegal immigration issue and the security of the U.S. Economy have been two hot topics all over
the news during the 2016 election champion. One main solution that now president Trump provided
during his champion was building the wall along the side of the US southern border. Although many
who voted for that he mostly agree to the idea, many others thought that was bad for the Economy,
Globalization, and most importantly the U.S. Economy. Nationwide, a debate on the issue of whether
or not U.S. Should be building the wall along the side of the US southern border? Is it making money
or losing money for the US? Those topic has started to heat up as president Trump soon will be
executing this plan of his. The Border Wall issue will lead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And Mexico over the issue of the Trump wall. They mentioned that the president intended to put 20
percent tax on all imported goods from Mexico to cover the cost of the Wall and call it as in Mexico
will pay for the wall Eventually, such event lead to the cancellation of the White House visit from the
Mexico s president and both parties did not back down. But in same article Michael, Binyamin and
Alan wrote to the NYT back in Jan argued that although put more taxes on Mexican s imported goods
sounds like an easy solution to solves the budget issue of Trump s wall. The result may not be the
same way that folks who voted for him want to see. The article argued that business will have to make
money to cover all the cost of importing goods to the U.S. If the president increases their cost, they
will have no other choices but increase the price tag on the importing goods to cover that cost. So, in
the end, the folks who voted for him may end up been the real people that pay for the wall not what
Trump has claimed Mexico. Many businesses in the U.S. are heavily relying on imports from Mexico,
mentioned by the same New York Time article. Especially in retail and energy industries went in a
panic due to this unsure policy of Trump s. This is not the best way to make America s economy
better. My position on this issue is clear, border security is very important, but

Essay on Texaco Case Study
Symptoms of Problems at Texaco
Identification of Root Problems and Unresolved Issues
Highly qualified African American employees filed a class action suit against Texaco in 1994, stating
that the company failed to promote African American employees to a higher position and it failed to
compensate them in relation to Caucasian employees in similar positions. Throughout the
investigation of Texaco if was found that documents would potentially damage Texaco were being
withheld. When secret tape recordings from Texaco executives revealed not only vilely insensitive
racial attitudes but it also demonstrated the eagerness of the executives to withhold any and all
sensitive internal documents pertaining to the discrimination court case. ... Show more content on

Many of the minority employees felt that issues were not being addressed. This made them feels
insecure at their job and helpless. It had become apparent to many that going to management were not
going to help alleviate the problem. The total number of people who were discriminated against may
never be known, but through the bravery of the few, the prejudice of that behavior has been stopped
and has been corrected. Texaco later implemented a solution for its problems but many thought it was
not enough. Rev. Jesse Jackson, in 1996 urged patrons to carry on with an economic boycott of the oil
company he suggested the boycott would add pressure to Texaco and that they would be pressed in
implementing better employment policies for minorities and that these policies would be enforced.
(CNN News, 1996).
Roles of Key Players
The employees of Texaco at the time obviously were the ones affected by this discrimination. Peter
Bijur, the CEO of Texaco and the key person for the changes that took place in the company, was a
key player in this case in the months leading up to the settlement. Other key players for the changes at
Texaco were Bari Ellen Roberts, a former senior financial analyst and Angela Vallot, the Director of
the corporate diversity

Who Is The Protagonist In The Crucible
The Crucible John Proctor in this story is described as a man of his word and for the most part honest
in everything he says or is asked to answer. He also has problems of his own to, like not being faithful
to his wife at times or mostly at all times do to problems, and also having a secret but not intimate
relationship with Abagail Williams. This is why I strongly feel like he is the protagonists of the story
because of his failure in his relationship, his guilt because of it, and his redemption at the end of the
story. A reason that supports this claim is his secret relationship with Abagail Williams and how she
uses that to cause problems within his relationship. The other reason that he is the main protagonists is
because of his dying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I have given you my soul; leave me my name . This shows him saying that he doesn t want to write his
name because if was to sign it all he would have is what he believes in and not the thing he has once in
his life. He was also done playing this game of lies and sin, so he tears up his confession paper about
all the other people. So, like I said he is the protagonist because of what his problems bring out in him
but that is not the only thing that shows who he truly is. The other reason he rather choose to hang is
so that he doesn t let such an innocent girl like his wife Elizbeth die for his mistakes. He states it very
clear when is talking to Mary Warren about the situation and he says (Miller.2.435) My wife will
never die for me! I will bring your guts into your mouth but that goodness will not die for me! . Even
though he may not be entirely interested or truthful to Elizbeth, he still cared for her and would rather
himself die then an innocent woman for him. While he was doing this his wife was supposed to be
persuading him even though she knew she couldn t to lie but didn t because she understood his need
for redemption. In

  • 2. The Teachings and Influence of Bill Gothard Introduction: Influencing hundreds of thousands of people over the span of fifty years, Bill Gothard has become an icon of Christian counseling in the United States and in the world at large. His work in determining the basic conflicts in the hearts of people and his devotion to creating a Bible based community and curriculum for homeschooling families has made him a powerful leader in the realm of Christian counseling and teaching and has endeared him to many. His counseling style has affected thousands of preachers and teachers who follow his methods, and so it is important to understand the principles behind Gothard s doctrines. To fully understand Gothard s teachings, one must first understand the world of psychological counseling. According to the American Counseling Association, counselors help clients identify goals and potential solutions to problems which cause emotional turmoil... In essence counseling helps people understand their problems and gives them tools to deal with these issues. Although the goal of counseling remains the same across the board, the beliefs and presuppositions of individual counselors affect the methods and techniques they implement in their counseling. For the secular psychological counselor, the focus is ego centric. The goal of counseling is to give the client a better life and a happier outlook on life so that he can achieve even greater things for himself. For the Christian, the goal of counseling is to bring the client into a closer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Such film includes The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Robert Wiene, 1920) and Metropolis (Fritz Lang, 1927) often dealt with plots concerning with insanity, betrayal, authority and other issues that were triggered by WWI. • 4. Evaluating The Current Incremental Budgeting System 1.1 Executive Summary This report reviews the company s current incremental budgeting system, explores the beyond budgeting approach and looks at the alternative flexible methods available. In Summary, although the managing director could continue to use the incremental system, it is recommended that an Activity Based Costing strategy is adopted. Although the current incremental method is simple and easy to understand, it has many drawbacks making it unsuitable for today s economic environment. 1.2 Objectives Taking into consideration the current economic climate, to investigate how beneficial a beyond budgeting approach would be, in regards to flexibility and financial control of the business. To also explore the possibility of adopting an Activity Based Costing system and the benefits it would bring to the company. Lastly, after reviewing the benefits and shortcomings of all three methods of budgeting, determine which method is the most suitable for the managing director. 1.3 Background to budgeting The process of budgeting is one of the most important management tools available to a business, particularly in today s current economic climate. It serves three major purposes; coordinating activities and tasks, motivating employees and allows for forecasting of future developments and events in order to prepare for the future of the business effectively (Weber, 2005). 2.1 Incremental Budgeting According to M.M Ibrahim and R.A Proctor (1992), the incremental ... • 5. Mrs Warren s Profession And The Ruined Maid Being female has a long history of being considered lesser than the male counterpart, the same is true for female sexuality. While modern times have come to accept female sexuality in all its forms, past literature often dealt with it through the act of prostitution. Both George Bernard Shaw s Mrs. Warren s Profession and Thomas Hardy s The Ruined Maid deal with the representation of female sexuality through prostitution and brothels. This is portrayed as empowering for the women involved despite societal conditions forcing this role, yet deals with the reaction from society very differently. Both texts also deal with the social stigma that surrounds prostitution and the utilization of female sexuality in different way while both having the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Mrs. Warren s Profession, the concept of women viewing prostitution and brothels as the only means for upward social mobility or even just survival is not shied away from. In a preface from the play in 1902, Shaw himself is quoted as saying No normal woman would be a professional prostitute if she could better herself by being respectable . This also ties into the reason that Mrs. Warren is not portrayed as helpless or a victim for being a prostitute/ part of the brothel, rather having the blame placed on the societal and economic conditions that led to her choosing this occupation (Liggins 50). This also ties back to Shaw s intention of throwing the responsibility and guilt of Mrs. Warren s choices back on the British public themselves rather than on the individual. This sentiment is also felt in The Ruined Maid , as it proposes that the only reason for Melia s current place in society is due to her being ruined, as prior she was poor and uneducated on the farm (Hardy 5 11). The text alludes that her pre marital fornication allowed her upward mobility, and it may have been the only way to achieve it. Through being ruined, Melia has improved herself both socially and intellectually (Renner 25). Another comparison between the two texts is the acceptance of other female characters that the decision made good financial sense to join the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Usually in my life I will experience a few negative emotions and thoughts and then briefly affirm that what I am believing is untrue and then switch my mind to something different. I also have journals that I will write in every once in a while, but it isn t something I use for overcoming negative emotions. Coming from a conservative, religious family I have always heard that meditation is bad. While Neff practices Buddhist meditation and uses some of these ideas in her programs to teach self compassion, after listening to one of the meditation podcasts, I can see the benefit. The meditation practices she developed helps one relax, become more self aware, and focused on thoughts of love and compassion not only towards oneself but also towards others. Another aspect that I had not taken into consideration is the difference between self compassion and self esteem. As Neff explains, self esteem is basically one s perceived value and worth; however, it is contingent on how one is compared to another. I have never looked at self esteem being a problematic, negative term, now I understand the aspects of it that can be detrimental to ones well being. Always striving to have high self esteem leads us to put other people down in the process, it also insinuates that we have to be perfect and better to be worthy, which is the opposite of what Neff s concept of self compassion entails. Our society thrives on the idea that one has to be better than their counterpart, what we lack is this idea of self compassion. Therefore, I think it would be very beneficial to teach self compassion in children; this may lead to an overall more compassionate generation that flourishes on how we can help each other and ourselves ... • 11. Arguments Against Dna Testing Discussion #3 DNA testing has been around for many years. DNA testing was first used to determine paternity (Schwartz 2016). Today, DNA is not only used in paternity cases, but it is also used in criminal justice. DNA in the criminal justice was first used in 1986 in the United Kingdom. Dr. Alec J. Jeffreys was accused for two rape murders and later proven innocent by DNA testing (The Malaysian Journal of Medical Sciences, 2003). Even if this method is reliable most of the time, there are times where the DNA expert might make a mistake, might be rigged or there might be an unknown bias. Dror believes that fingerprints are a reliable forensic evidence in today s trials. He also believes that fingerprints are more reliable than eyewitness testimonies. However, since fingerprints are identified by very highly skilled professional, they are still humans and mistakes can in fact happen either honestly or intentionally. He also stated that in most cases, fingerprint evidence has been more reliable and can be important in order to prove someone s innocence or find a criminal. I personally, agree with Dr. Dror s opinion on fingerprint evidence being more reliable than eyewitness testimony. Like he stated on the video, the mind is not like a camera. It does not take a video which we can later see and quickly catch the person responsible for a crime. Another reason of why I agree with Dr.Dror s, is because the mind is very easy to trick. Memories can be altered just by discussing the subject with someone else, either someone involved in the crime or by being asked leading questions by authorities. Statistics show that 70% of wrongful convictions caused by eyewitness testimony are overturned by DNA testing. (Innocence project, nd). The presentation gave some background about laws pertaining to emissions but at the same time was designed more to educate the consumer as to what a hybrid actually is. You do not plug it in! Current Emission Standards are confusing. At this point in time, we are at a major transition as to what will be the future of combustion vehicles. The increased fuel efficiency of the hybrids actually makes city driving more economical than highway driving. Overall fuel efficiency (MPG) can be doubled. All of these factors lead to reduced emissions. At this point, it would be appropriate to include a brief summary of the Emission Standards as proposed by the EPA. The Federal mandates on emissions include Tier 1 and Tier 2. Tier 1 took effect in 1997 and was the first call for a reduction in emissions since the 50s. Tier 2 will be phased in beginning 2004. Currently, Tier 1 standards take into account the size of the car when determining emission ratings. When Tier 2 takes effect, the size of the car will no longer matter (i.e. an SUV will be held to the same standards as a subcompact car). The Tier 1 and Tier 2 guidelines only apply to passenger cars. Buses, trucks, and construction equipment will have different mandates. The National LEV (NLEV) standard goes hand in hand with the California Emissions Standards (developed by the CARB: California Air Resources Board). NLEV is short for the National Low Emission Vehicle Standard. California came up with its own guidelines for emissions which are more rigid than today?s Tier 1 standard. The Federal Government adopted this standard into its NLEV program. It is a voluntary program that was proposed mostly by California and the Northeast US. In re Darvocet, Darvon, and Propoxyphene Products Liability Litig., 756 F.3d 917, 940 (6th Cir. 2014). Courts have been reluctant to grant summary judgment on product identification even when the plaintiff has minimal evidence that they took the brand name drug. In several cases, just the plaintiff s testimony about the brand of the drug she took was sufficient to create a question of material fact. Many people argue that Iago was the protagonist but that simply is not true. People also think that since Iago manipulates Othello, they think the reasoning behind this is because Iago truly thinks he is being honest, kind and steering him onto the right path. This is not right since Iago knows what he is doing. Iago is the villain in Shakespeare s play, Othello, uses morals to prove that Iago is the villain. • 22. Don John Character Analysis When thinking about the well known comedy Much Ado About Nothing, by William Shakespeare the audience is quick to focus on the wit and comedy that the play has to offer, rather than the understated villain who easily disappears in the background. While reading the play, one can posit that Don John is not the typical villain who acts with a specific motive in mind, rather, he is acting out of an obligation he feels to serve as an antagonist considering his position as a bastard. This is demonstrated in his dialogue, which reveals his inner turmoil on being chained to the villainous role and his willingness to act on any malicious opportunity that presents itself to him. This is significant in that, it provides another layer to our villain and causes the audience to think beyond the first layer that is easily presented, and into the true inner motives of the character. Don John claims that the resentment people have towards him is rooted in the fact that he is a bastard and any friendly intentions towards him are fraudulent ones. From the beginning of the play Don John does not come across as a friendly figure, especially compared to the rest of the soldiers that come with the party to Messina in a flourish of good and excitement. These experiments were conducted using skin cells from frog embryos and used a method known as nuclear transplantation, or nuclear transfer. This process utilized a procedure known as enucleation in which the nucleus of an egg cell is removed and replaced with the nucleus of a parent cell. The new nucleus in the egg contains the same genetic material as the parent cell, and then, the fertilized egg becomes an embryo. The nucleus and all genetic material in the egg having been replaced with the genetic material of the parent cell, would now become an exact replica, or clone of the parent organism. John Gurdon, a molecular biologist at Oxford University in England, conducted further research using the method of nuclear transplantation in the 1960 s and 1970 s. In 1966, he was able to produce adult frogs using nuclei from tadpole intestine cells. Obviously, this proved that any cells, whether they be skin cells, blood cells, or even cells from an organism s intestinal tract could be used to create an exact replica of that creature. There are three factors that will alter an enzyme: temperature, pH and salt. All three will change the structure of the enzyme by denaturation and rendering it useless when a drastic change occurs from levels that are normal. A slight alteration can speed up reaction to certain saturation or slow the process of reaction. Enzymes have a substrate: the substrate for the catecholase enzyme is catechol and oxygen. When the substrate combines with the catecholase enzyme of a potato, the product is a reddish brown color called benzoquinone. This product is what turns fruits and vegetables brown (Briggs and others 2010). Therefore, slowing or stopping the process of would increase shelf life of some food, or at least make the foods appearance appetizing much longer. The equation for this chemical reaction is: Enzyme Substrate Product Catechol + Oxygen Catecholase Benzoquinone The hindering of the Benzoquinone could alter the production, and could lower the cost of produce. Nathalie Santis and others (2005) preformed an experiment to see the effects of various NaCl solutions on thin slices of potato that were fried. The potatoes were sliced 3mm thick and 30mm in diameter, fourteen slices in all. All fourteen were blanched at 70°C for five minutes. Seven were placed in pure water at 26°C and the other seven went into several NaCl solutions (0.6%, 1.2%, 1.8%, 2.4%, 3.0%, 6.0% and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Genetic Engineering And The Canadian Regulation Biotechnology is the application of scientific techniques and exploitation of biological processes used to improve and modify animals, plants and microorganisms to enhance their value through genetic manipulation. Over time, advances in the field of molecular biology has allowed scientists to take a particular gene from any organism, including, bacteria, viruses, plants or animals, and introduce those genes into another organism. An organism transformed using genetic engineering techniques is known as transgenic organism (Independent learning center, 2012). This paper discusses the positive and negative effects of genetically engineered organisms in agricultural applications and the Canadian regulation or legislation that relates to this issue. Many farmers in Canada have welcomed major crop plants produced by genetic engineering. Four major transgenic crops including canola, corn, soy and sugar beet have been approved for commercial production in Canada (Canada Agency, 2015). Transgenic organisms offer a range of benefits in the agricultural applications. Over many years, transgenic organisms have helped increase crop productivity by introducing drought tolerance and disease resistance to crops. Today, scientist has been able to select genes for disease resistant from other organism and relocate them to essential crops. For example, in the 1980, researchers from University of Hawaii teamed up with Cornell University to develop a papaya cultivar resistant to papaya ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Beltway Poetry Slam Analysis I attended the Beltway Poetry Slam which was held at the Busboys and Poets in Brookland NE. During the poetry slam, I silently took notes in the back of the room and I made sure I was not interrupting the scenery. Before walking in, I didn t know what to expect. I choose to go to the Beltway Poetry Slam, because I would have the opportunity to hear and feel the poets raw emotions. Before walking in, I thought the poetry slam would have more of a competitive aspect. There was very little competition and the poets didn t try to rebut or argue back. This experience helped dispel some of my preconceived notions about how poetry slams work. I thought all poetry slams are hyper competitive and but the poets who performed seemed as though they enjoyed being on stage and they didn t seemed stressed. During my time at Beltway Poetry Slam, I realized there were several common trends. All of the poets were Black/African American and they brought up the negative problems pertaining to the community such as abuse, rape, police brutality, violence, black women struggles, etc; essentially becoming the themes of the poetry slam. There are also many theories of the motivation of a human being. For this paper, the authors will look at the motivation of Theodore Roosevelt to fulfill Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs. We will look how President Roosevelt was motivated to act throughout his life through each stage of the Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs. Maslow s Theory The Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs theory is a theory that attempts to summarize motivation. Maslow s theory is a biopsychosocial theory of motivation. A biopsychosocial theory means that it accounts for the biological needs and the psychosocial needs of a person. (Carpenter Huffman, 2013) Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs Theory was first developed by Abraham Maslow in a 1943 paper. (Maslow, 1943) Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs Theory works simply. It says that a person will meet baser or more primitive needs first before fulfilling more advanced or sophisticated needs. To the lay person, thus seems to be true. The hierarchy of needs are in the following order from simple to complicated: Physiological Needs Hunger, thirst, and maintenance of internal state of the body; Safety Needs to feel secure and safe, to seek pleasure and avoid pain; Belonging and Love Needs to affiliate with others, be accepted, and give and receive affection; Esteem Needs to achieve, be competent, gain approval, and excel; and Self Actualization Needs ...
