Walmart Trespass Warnings
On the above date and time I was conducting a business check of Walmart. While conducting the
business check, I was alerted by Walmart Loss Prevention Officer, Marion Edwards, that a White,
GMC Yukon, that was missing the front bumper was involved in an attempted theft of a coffee
maker approximately two weeks prior. Edwards requested that I make contact with the vehicle,
which was parked in row #7 in the Walmart parking lot. Edwards was requesting that I issues a
trespass warnings to the vehicle s occupants. I located the vehicle and pulled behind it without my
emergency lights activated and I made contact with both the female driver and passenger. Shortly
after, Edwards arrived on scene and he suspected that the driver, identified as Taya... Show more

Several attempts were made to contact Catellier by Stewart, via cell phone, with negative
results. Edwards advised me that Walmart wanted the vehicle removed from the property.
Edwards then called a tow company to have the vehicle removed from the property. Both Brasch
and Stewart were issued trespass warnings per Edwards request. I advised both subjects that they
would be arrested if the returned to Walmart, located at 8701 U.S. Highway 19 in Port Richey.
Steward acknowledged, and she signed the trespass warning before leaving the scene with Brasch
s cell phone (per her request). Brasch later signed the trespass warning at central booking. While
en route to central booking, Brasch admitted that she was the driver of the vehicle from the theft
that occurred several weeks prior. Furthermore, Brasch advised me that the subject who attempted
to steal the coffee maker was her ex boyfriend, identified as Stephen Martin Genualdi. Edwards
later confirmed that Genualdi was the subject who attempted the theft by his last arrest photo on the
Pasco County Sheriff s Office website. However, Edwards declined to prosecute. Brasch was

Spartacus Corruption
Spartacus takes place during the first century BC, in the ancient roman empire. this empire has slid
into corruption and moral decay, extensively employing the work of slaves to carry out the lesser
jobs of society. these slaves are often mistreated, abused, exploited, and worked until death, as
shown in the opening scene where Spartacuss friend dies from work exhaustion. This opening
scene takes place in a Roman salt mine in the province of Libya, where a large group of slaves
toil with pick and axe to extract the precious mineral from the ground, and Roman soldiers guard,
and abuse the slaves. the commentary tells us of the hopelessness of the soldiers situation, and that
the only freedom they can hope of achieving is death. Spartacus... Show more content on

number of the other slaves, foremost being Crixus, who goes on to become one of Spartacus s
generals He and is shown to be a man distiguished in his ability to relate to others, and his
leadership skills. He also attempts to make friends with an Ethiopian slave by the name of
Draba, however Draba refuses, citing how gladiators do make friends, as the y may be required
to kill one another in the arena. During this time the gladiators are kept in poor conditions, more
akin to a prisoners life than an athletes, however some relief is given in the form of occasionally
being allowed to sleep with a number of slave women. One such women is Varinia who meets
Spartacus one night, and instead of the performing the regular sexual acts with one another, they
form a friendship, which evolves into a bond born of love over the course of their time at the
school. When taunted by Batiatus over His situation with Varinia, Spartacus shouts I m not an
animal at him. Varinia, present at the time, quietly says neither am I . This exchange of dialogue
serves to show that the slaves, as a rule, considered themselves to be human beings, entitles=d to the
rights in which they had been deprived as

The Ethics Of Genetic Testing
Genetic testing is a relatively new and rapidly emerging field. Even though this science was seen
as controversial, genetic testing has been going on for conditions such as phenylketonuria and
sickle cell disease for years.
The increase in genetic testing has resulted in the convergence of public health, morals and ethics.
Many ethics related issues arise with genetic testing, as well of fear that insurance companies will
not reimburse such services. Many moral and ethical obligations appear with genetic testing. For
instance, the decision to inform relatives of a patient with test results, whether positive or negative
is highly controversial. The decision to inform or not varies, and is based on different moral
theories.
Genetic testing comprises of three forms. They are diagnostic, carrier, and predictive testing.
Diagnostic testing involves identifying the state of a current disease. An example of this is prenatal
and newborn screening, which is the most common form of genetic testing. Carrier testing is done
to determine if a patient is a carrier of a certain genetic trait. Each individual s genetic traits are
comprised of two chromosomes, one inherited from the father and one from the mother. A genetic
disorder is either dominant or recessive. When a person has one abnormal chromosome, this is
considered dominant. If a genetic disorder is recessive, the disease characteristics are present when
the individual has two abnormal chromosomes. Additionally, X linked

Example Of Dichotomy
Victor Hanson s article lacks supporting evidence and provides a narrow point of view to a
complex situation. When evaluating information and determining if it is logically compelling, the
premises must be acceptable, relevant, and sufficient. The article does not meet the required
premises because it lacks sufficient support and contains several logical fallacies.
The premise of the article is that the United States will continue to decline and potentially cease to
exist if they continue to reduce defense spending and increase social spending, which results in
more government dependent citizens. The premise is a slippery slope fallacy. A slippery slope
logical fallacy occurs when a predicted outcome is based on a specific chain reaction, but there is
not enough evidence to support the chain reaction will occur or produce the predicted outcome.
The article references four different historical civilizations that failed because their citizens grew
dependent on the government and because their government cut defense spending. The historical
civilizations mentioned lack similarities to the U.S. government s structure, current international
relations, military capability and economic capacity. The increase in government ... Show more

others with a wide range of defense and social budgets. The generalization without specific

Aristotelian Tragedy Macbeth Essays
Aristotelian Tragedy: Macbeth Aristotle is known widely for developing his ideas on tragedy. He
recorded these ideas in his Poetics in which he comments on the plot, purpose, and effect that a
true tragedy must have. The structure of these tragedies has been an example for many writers
including Shakespeare himself. Many of Shakespeare s plays follow Aristotelian ideas of tragedy,
for instance Macbethdoes a decent job in shadowing Aristotle s model. Aristotle describes one of
the most important elements of a tragedy to be a tragic hero. The tragic hero however must present
certain qualities such as nobility and virtue. In the play Macbeth, Macbeth is a perfect example of a
tragic hero. Macbeth begins the play coming home from battle,... Show more content on

However, Macbeth does not go unpunished as he suffers countless dreams and illusions that
drive him to insanity. The loss of his wife also brings Macbeth to his final denouement. In the
end, Macbeth is killed by Macduff; because of his arrogance he believed he was invincible even
after being told his fate. Macbeth reaches his end through the same way he lived his life, through
murder and deception. Many argue over the fairness of Macbeth s life, but the goal of a tragedy
in Aristotle s view point is to strike fear and pity in the audience through harsh punishment upon
the hero in extreme ways. Finally, Aristotle claims that in order for a tragedy to be effective, the
fear and pity must be released from the audience through catharsis. First the tragic hero must
gain some knowledge from his tragic life. Macbeth shows this self realization in his yellow leaf
soliloquy when he expresses remorse for his actions. Also, in the end he knows he must fight
until the end whether his fate is death. At this point the audience is cleansed of the emotions of
the plot and the tragedy is finished. Macbeth is a primary example of a typical Aristotelian
tragedy. It follows the structure necessary from the tragic hero, to his downfall and ultimately to
the catharsis necessary for an original Greek drama. The aspects of this play are a perfect example
of the tragedies of that

Niccolo Machiavelli Philosophy Of New Orders
Niccolo Machiavelli teaches us that establishing and/or founding new orders and modes it can
be difficult to enforce when acquiring new principalities but it also a necessity to keep the state
and secure it. New orders are more difficult to handle, more doubtful of success, nor more
dangerous to manage, than to put oneself at the head of introducing new orders (23). With new
orders can come great success, for it is tough to achieve greater success than their predecessors
by just imitating what they already have put in place. When old laws are still in tack it can
cause adversaries, who believe the law is on their side, therefore when enforcing new laws one
must beg or indeed can use force (24). But, once new orders are put into place either by will or
force, they remain powerful, secure, honored, and happy (25).
Niccolo Machiavelli considers Cesare Borgia to be a great example to follow if one wishes to
apprehend, secure, and strengthen their principalities. Cesare Borgia was a great prince whom
gained his principality through his father Pope Alexander VI by fortune. He exhibited great prowess
to secure his state, but lost it to unfortunate fortune, that led to his fall and death.
Cesare Borgia, called Duke Valentino, came into power through his roots in the state that the arms
and fortune of others had given him (27). Borgia should great signs of staying in power and
expanding his foundations by not only conquering the Romagna. But, also, he used tactics to
weaken powerful principalities, gained a great amount of popularity and loyal noblemen.
First, it was necessary for Cesare Borgia, to upset orders to bring disorder to their states to be able
to make himself secure (27). When the duke came into power he could not trust no one, for the
people were all loyal to Orsini and Colonna. In order secure his new state, he had to seek out and
eliminate his competition. With the help of his father, he was able to gain Romagna from Colonna
by using force and some cruelty, and then allowed the country to be ran on its own. He then,
brought Orsini supporters loyalty through big allowances, honoring them, and giving them
promotions within the government. Through these tactics he was able to turn all

Comparison Of Monster In Frankenstein
In the Novel Frankenstein by Mary shelly, the novel jumps between the two narrative
perspectives of monster and creator. By jumping from two different perspectives throughout the
novel we are able to understand the thoughts and feelings of each character in a new way.
Reading through different perspectives, allows the story to have greater depth and meaning.
Each perspective brings a new dimension to the novel that makes for a more complex story.
Furthermore, the perspectives allow for the two characters to be compared and contrasted
throughout the entirety of the novel. When reading from Victor s point of view, we can see how
he feels about the monster. How can I describe my emotions at this catastrophe, or how delineate
the wretch whom with such infinite pains and care I had endeavoured to form? His limbs were
in proportion, and I had selected his features as beautiful. Beautiful! Great God! His yellow skin
scarcely covered the work of muscles and arteries beneath; his hair was of a lustrous black, and
flowing; his teeth of a pearly whiteness; but these luxuriances only formed a more horrid contrast
with his watery eyes, that seemed almost of the same colour as the dun white sockets in which they
were set, his shrivelled complexion and straight black lips. (Chapter 5) Being that he created
something hideous and evil, when in reality he was only trying to invent something great for
mankind. While reading through the monster s point of view we can understand a deep

Memory can change a person. It can shape who they become. The past can show who someone

Scrooge acted and what he does. The ChristmasCarol displays The Importance of memory when the

First of all, the Spirit of Christmas past showed what happened before on Christmas in scrooge s

The Opposition Of The Privileged Has Been Around Since The...
The ruling of the privileged has been around since the conception of organized society. The state is
nothing but an instrument of oppression of one class by another no less so in a democratic
republic than in a monarchy. This is a quote from social scientist Fredrich Engels that shows the
outlook of most people towards a privileged ruling; this system was deemed unfair to the majority,
which led to monarchies, the main representative of minority ruling, losing their power. Although
we believe the true power in modern democratic societies rests on the majority, it truly rests with
the powerful elite.
The basis for schlock sociology is that American society has become so complex and technical that
a new upper class has been created to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Moscovici, a major psychologist, he states that they also possess authority by
bringing attention to themselves and disrupting the established norm through their confidence in
their alternative views, which leads to the minority internalizing their views (Underwood). The
major distinguishing factors of the upper class compared to the rest of society is their education,
occupation, and their ideals. Most major leaders in any industry have attended top institutions
that are known for their prestigious alumni, it is shown that 54% of corporate leaders and 42%
of political leaders only attended twelve schools which include schools such as Yale and Stanford
(Reynolds). Many of these institutions do not just rely on good grades, but also on social profile
and it is shown that it is practically impossible to flunk out of American colleges since the seventies
(Codevilla). These persistent school trends show the close minded atmosphere that racks the upper
class, which also leads to less disagreements due to the fact that so many ideas receive no
competition from other major elites. Their occupations are also very consistent, they tend to
command top societal posts which gives them authority over financial, educational, social, civic,
and cultural institutions (Reynolds). Many top leaders who are not of the upper class through birth
are socialized in, which

In September 1993, Huizenga proposed a $4.7 billion merger with media giant Viacom Inc. The
merger did not prove to be fruitful. By April 1994, Blockbuster s and Viacom s stock had

for financial losses and lack of clearly defined leadership, Huizenga eventually stepped down as

company on a terrible trajectory focusing on major expansion. He only lasted for 2 years in the

At different position one can perceive different from someone else at another position.
Hume agrees with Locke that perception is the foundation of our ideas but disagrees with the

The Uniform Crime Records And The Federal Bureau Of The...
In the late 1920s, the Committee on Uniform Crime Records was established by the International
Association of the Chiefs of Police (IACP). The goal of the Committee was to develop a
systematic way to measure crime in the United States. The Committee collaborated and decided to
focus on seven (7) specific crimeareas which they felt were the most known crimes and the most
likely to be reported. These crimes were: burglary, robbery, larceny theft, rape, auto theft, murder
and aggravated assault (James Rishard, 2008).
The IACP developed their own definitions of these crimes to ensure uniformity of reporting the
data collected. This information and definitions were published in 1929 in the Uniform Crime
Reporting Manual. The first report of data collected was published later that same year and was
amassed from 400 cities across the 48 contiguous United States, as well as the territories of
Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. This report became known as the Uniform Crime Report
(UCR). The following year, in 1930, the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) was tapped to
control the crime data collected for the UCR (James Rishard, 2008).
Since 1930, there have been a few modifications made to the UCR. The FBI began recording the
age, sex and race of those arrested as well as increasing the known crimes reported to law
enforcement from seven (7) categories to eight (8) categories by adding the category of arson
(James Rishard, 2008).

Public Transportation And Its Effects On The United States
The early morning drizzle was constant, threatening to become actual rain. Della stood on the

She d been praying for rain for months, despairing over the ravages of the extended drought in
Northern California, worrying about what it meant for the future, and yet she felt irritated that the
rain had chosen to come today, the day she had to take public transportation.
She had never liked public transportation; it was too... public. It presented too much opportunity
for unpredictability, requiring her to share personal space with strangers. This was a challenge for
Della, who could be fairly described as either profoundly introverted, or just plain antisocial,
depending on who was doing the describing. When she was a kid, the school bus her first foray into

A Short Note On Speech Sign Semantic Equivalence Essay
ANALYSIS OF SPEECH SIGN SEMANTIC EQUIVALENCE IN SIMULTANEAOUS
COMMUNICATION IN KENYA
By

1.0Introduction
Effective communication between teacher and pupil is a requisite factor for educational attainment.
For the deaf, ineffective communication is a major problem especially when onset of profound
deafness takes places at an early age before language is acquired. At school, the language of
classroom communication not only affects the child s development but also influences ability to
learn other curriculum contents. Pointing out reasons for failure by deaf children to compete
favorably with their hearing peers, Johnson et al (1989) has indicated that the central problem on
deaf education is embedded in the lack of an appropriate language of classroom communication.
For a long time education for the deaf was conducted through the oral approach. It was later realized
that this oral approach did not avail curriculum content to the deaf learners. In the 1980 s Total
Communication arose as one of the solutions. According to Adoyo(2004), Total Communication
was misunderstood for Simultaneous Communication, a communication system in which speech

Examples Of Evil In Macbeth
The definition of evil is profound immorality, wickedness, and depravity, especially when
regarded as a supernatural force. The readers see these qualities in the main character, Macbeth.
This play, written by William Shakespeare, starts off by portraying Macbeth as a hero who helped
to win the battle for Scotland; this is the first impression of Macbeth. Macbeth is not the only
character that readers see profound immorality in; evilis seen in the people around Macbeth as he
makes his journey to the throne.
First, evil is shown in Macbeth when he expresses that he is willing to do anything to obtain
complete power. After the war is won, Macbeth is told by the witches that he will be promoted
to Thane of Cawdor, and even has the opportunity to be king of Scotland. Macbeth is indeed
promoted to Thane of Cawdor and immediately gets anxious to be king, and right now. Macbeth
is willing to kill the current King Duncan to earn his throne. This evil deed is the first time we
see wickedness in Macbeth. Macbeth says, Stars hide your fires! Let not see my black and deep
desires (I. iv. 52 53). Macbeth is now admitting to his own evil thoughts. Macbeth s killing streak is
not over and he will not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second time readers see evil in Macbeth, is when Lady Macbeth tells her husband that he is
not a real man when he is questioning if killing the king is what he needs to do. Yet do I fear thy
nature; It is too full o th milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way: thou wouldst be great,
Art not without ambition, but without the illness should attend it (I. v. 2 7). Lady Macbeth is now
as greedy as her husband for the power. She is the one who convinces him to kill his first victim.
As the show goes on, her less strength and confidence about their reign seems to hinder. Lady
Macbeth ends up committing suicide because she cannot handle the guilt of all the dispare she and
her husband have placed on

How The Romans Built Aqueducts
Ancient Romans have had a huge impact on influencing modern civilizations, through several
factors ranging from architecture to literature to engineering. The Romans engineering skills
contributed greatly to the establishment of their civilization. Their bridges and roads tied their
empire together and made travel easier especially for merchants and soldiers. But it is the Romans
water system of that set them as an advanced and modern civilization. The Romans were very
skilled architects to an extent that some of their work, such as aqueducts, is still in existence. Some
aqueducts are even still in use by modern day societies to supply fountains with water. An aqueduct
is a water supply or navigable channel constructed to convey water. Since water is one of life s most
important necessities, the ancient Romans built aqueducts in all parts of their empire making it
way easier to transport and provide the empire with water. The water provided by the aqueducts was
used for different purposes which include mining, processing, manufacturing, agriculture, supplying
public baths, latrines, fountains and private households with water. Among the most notable water

get to households still impossible. But once aqueduct water was brought to the city s higher
elevations, well appointed public baths got widespread throughout the city, and drinking water
could be delivered to public fountains. Public baths and fountains became distinctive features of the
Roman Empire, and in particular the baths became important social

Shere Khan as the Enemy in Mowgli s Brothers of Rudyard Kipling s The Jungle Book
The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling was written in the year 1894 as a series of short stories based
primarily in the jungles of India. The first story, Mowgli s Brothers introduces a number of
characters that feature throughout additional stories in the novel. The antagonist a tiger named
Shere Kahn, is introduced early in the novel and presents the ongoing danger against the
protagonist, man child , Mowgli. Kipling conveys Shere Kahn as the enemy early in the novel
through varied use of language and the events that create tension between Mowgli himself. Shere

Father Wolf says killing man means sooner or later there will be the arrival of white men on
elephants with guns and hundreds of brown men with gongs and rockets then, everybody in the
jungle suffers .
When Shere Khan first attacks the woodcutter s camp he is shown as incompetent. He burns his
paw in the human s fire and he is heard to be mumbling and muttering savagely as he tumbled
about . This is where we first hear of his dry, angry, snarly, singsong whine sounds. The
alliteration here emphasises his anger and confusion. The description of how Shere Khan is
whining shows how frustrated he is with Mowgli. He is portrayed as a tiger who is, unlike other
tigers because of his untigerish howl and we are told he has been lame in one foot from his birth
which shows that he is physically inferior to other tigers. He is also humiliated by Mother Wolf s
strong use of language by describing her movement as she sprang forward, her eyes, like two green
moons .
Kipling uses language to contrast Shere Khan with other animals and Characters. Mowgli is
described as soft and is also viewed as brave by Mother Wolf. How naked and how bold she says.
This shows that Mowgli the hero is not dangerous. Bagheera is portrayed by Kipling as a beautiful
animal who is inky black all over, but with the panther marking showing up in certain lights

Army Tactical Wheeled Vehicle Strategy
Does the high cost of the JLTV preclude it from replacing the HMMWV, as outlined in the 2010
U.S. Army Tactical Wheeled Vehicle Strategy?
In September 2011, the Senate Appropriations Defense Subcommittee voted to cancel the Army
and Marine Corps Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) in their version of the fiscal year 2012
defense bill (Munoz, 2011). This measure could have completely shut down efforts to replace a
thirty year old fleet of Humvees, loyal but potentially outmoded tactical wheeled vehicles. The
Army s Modernized Expanded Capacity Vehicle program has been a project set to replace the
High Mobility, Multi Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) family in the works for years. The project,
however, continues to be stymied by budgetary constraints. Per vehicle costs for the JLTV begin at
$250,000 and are likely to climb, as Lockheed Martin secured a preliminary contract for
engineering, design, and development. The high cost of the JLTV does preclude it from completely
replacing the HMMWV, and yet cost does not preclude the JLTV from supplementing the Army s
fleet. A middle ground solution is the best method of maximizing initial investments, while also
banking on the robustness of national security.
The primary argument against adopting the JLTV as a full replacement for the HMMWV is that
the HMMWV remains viable, and that resources have already been diverted towards adapting and
upgrading the fleet. A considerable amount of money has already been spent on upgrading the

The Dreaded Story of Dachau A concentration camp refers to a camp or closed area where people
are detained under brutal conditions usually having no access to legal rights of arrest and
imprisonment that would normally be accepted in a democracy. Concentration camps played a
large part in the mass killing of Jews in Europe lead by Adolf Hitler. An example of a concentration
camp is Dachau. During the World War II, Jews were separated into two groups the healthy and the
unhealthy. The unhealthy were immediately sent to an extermination camp where they were killed
in gas chambers and had harsh experiments performed on them. The healthy were sent to

Another form of punishment was the rope. During the rope the prisoner was hung so their heels
would not touch the ground. This made the prisoner stand on their toes to stay alive. This lasted
usually around 2 hours per incident. The rope was used to punish people who were caught
collecting evidence, which was on a no tolerance level. Whipping happened almost on a daily
basis. Prisoners were whipped for anything from mouthing back to not doing there work right, to
even looking at a guard the wrong way. Being whipped was looked at by prisoners as the easy
way out. Most considered the gassing of prisoners to be the worst punishment of all. Gassing
occurred in groups, prisoners were gassed for various reasons, but mostly for refusing to do
work. To be gassed prisoners were sent to Linz, Austria. There were many precautions in place to
prevent prisoners from escaping. The camp had barbed wire charged with electricity to prevent
climbing. If prisoners made it through the barbed wire they had to swim across a canal that was
extremely hard to cross. It was almost impossible to escape. If a prisoner escaped the ones that
remained behind suffered the punishment. The rule was that if one escapes, ten must die, and that
was carried out frequently. On the camp there was a crematorium, which was there for easier
disposal of the dead bodies. The crematorium was originally built in a wooden barracks on the

Persuasive Essay On Winter Blues
When the cold weather comes around, it s easy for the winter blues to take effect. With snow on
the ground, ice on the windshield, and below freezing temperatures to battle with throughout the
day, most people just want to get getaway from it all and for good reasons too. If you haven t felt
it yet, it might important to note that: the winter blues typically sets in right after the holidays,
when it s time to take down your Christmas decoration, get back to work, take care of kids, and
prepare yourself for the upcoming year. That s because the vast majority of people find that
winter is an extremely difficult time of year to gather the strength to feel joy and excitement
about practically anything. Fortunately, a visit to any of your favorite warmer climate
destinations will have you forgetting about the slush, ice, snow boots, and dark season in no
time. So, if you find that you re unmotivated, checked out, and heavy hearted, try to fight these
feelings by taking steps towards the light even in the darkest part of winter. That, of course, is
easier said than done for some people. If you and your family are in need of a winter vacation but if
cost is a major factor, consider one of these affordable and super fun destinations where your
money will go a lot farther. Dallas, Texas Some of you may have all heard that everything is

TARGET MARKETING: Market Segmentation, Targeting and Positioning
Introduction
1. To succeed in today s competitive marketplace, companies must be customer centered, wining
customers from competitors and keeping them by delivering greater value. a. Sound marketing

Negative Impacts Of Landfills
Impacts of Landfills Impacts on the environment Landfills dumping can disrupt natural
processes on land and in the water. Dumping can interfere with proper drainage of runoff. Areas
are more susceptible to flooding when waste blocks 6 ravines, creeks, culverts, and drainage
basins. In rural areas, burning at dump sites can cause forest fires and severe erosion as fires
burn away trees and undergrowth. The run off from improper disposal of toxic substances such
as motor oil or household cleansers can contaminate lakes, streams, and drinking water supplies.
Dumping also has a negative impact on plants and wildlife. Many birds and small animals die
after ingesting or becoming entangled in debris. Fish and other aquatic species are killed when
decomposing litter and food wastes in streams deplete oxygen supplies in the water. Refuse in a
stream can also clog fish spawning areas. Dumped appliances are not only an eyesore, but can
also release toxic chemicals. Refrigerators and freezers may release chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) into
the air, harming the earth s protective ozone layer. Improperly discarded appliances built before
1979 may also leak polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) into the soil. According to the EPA, PCBs
can cause cancer, reproductive failure and hormone imbalances in animals and humans,
(Environmental Protection Agency, 2008). Impacts on human Health. Landfills are very dangerous

The Preventive Approach Of The First Policing System Essay
Since the emergence of the first policing systems, there have been many different types emerge
throughout different periods in history. The three main types of policing have been preventative,
reactive, and proactive. These were each created in their own times to help combat crime or to aid
the publics general safety. Each were suited to society s needs at the time, the technology, and the
diversity of the people. The preventative approach focuses on preventing future crime. To do this the
policeuse methods such as patrolling areas where crime rates are higher to deter criminals. The
reactive approach was more of a crime fighting mentality, where the focus was on arrest rates and
response times. Police officers were very detached from general society and the us vs them
mentality was strong within the force. The reactive policing style came about due to the
technological advancements being made in the field such as having patrol cars instead of foot
patrols, thus, taking the officers out of the public (Goff, 2017).
Proactive policing began to emerge in the 1970 s in a hope to rebuild the publics relationship and
trust in the police officers through the idea of policing by consent. This method of policing
requires the police to control crime through more positive methods and involving the community in
the overall prevention and deterrence of crime. For the purposes of this paper I will be focusing on
the proactive style of policing, and more specifically community policing

The Unethical Ethical Impacts Of Photoshop
Unethical argument Companies should absolutely stand up against Photoshop, especially those
that once endorsed it and now see the damage it has caused, Legleitner said. You may be left
wondering: What damage? . The damage left from the use of photoshop is immense and it
extends much farther than what may come to mind. A research study done by Heather R.
Gallivan, PsyD, LP Park Nicollet Melrose Center found that 53% of 13 year old American girls
are unhappy with their bodies. This number grows to 78% by the time girls reach 17. Her
research shows that at approximately the age of 12 girls will have the most confidence in their
body and then as the years progress of their youth that confidence will plummet. Another statistic
that Gallivan shared was that in 2010 the Girl Scouts Organization did a survey with over one
thousand girls ages 13 17, the results noted that: 9 out of 10 girls felt pressure by fashion and
media industries to be skinny. It further explained that 60% of girls compare themselves to the
models and use the images put out by magazines as an ideal body to strive for. Women and girls
that feel this unethical influence by the fashion industry often times go through impacts including:
depression, eating disorders, anxiety or even as terrible as suicidality. Knowing that women face
emotional and physical impacts based off the unrealistic edited images put out by their brand should
be disheartening to the companies at fault. To girls today, the word

The Effect of pH and Temperature on the Efficiency of Catalase
Abstract: In order to determine how pH and temperature affect the liver enzyme catalase, an
experiment was conducted. Catalase breaks apart hydrogen peroxide producing water and oxygen.
Using an O2 sensor to measure how much additional oxygen is added into a sealed Nalgene bottle,
we could determine the enzymes effectiveness. Three variations of temperature were tested: cold,
hot and room temperature. This was done by taking test tubes with the three different samples and
placing them in a Nalgene Bottle. It was determined that the enzyme is most effective when at
room temperature although still functions when it is chilled. The heated sample was drastically
less effective. The pH was tested by adding acid (HCl), base () and neutral (water) to the enzyme.
When the enzyme samples were tested using the hydrogen peroxide and O2 sensor test it was
determined that any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Its function is the speed up the decomposition of Hydrogen peroxide within cells. This is an
important function within living animals because it becomes a poisonous substance. Catalase
breaks apart hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen through enzyme substrate complexes. (Tully)
The shape of catalase is complex with various alpha helices and beta sheets. (Corsini) This shape is
very important to its function and variation in temperature and pH can denature the enzyme.
Hypothesis:
Part I: Testing the Effect of Heat If the enzyme temperature is decreased then it will not decompose
hydrogen peroxide because it normally functions at a higher body temperature.
Part II: Testing the Effect of pH If the enzyme pH is increased than it will not decompose because it
will be much more acidic than the more neutral environment it functions in.

John C. Calhoun s Support Of Slavery In The United States
John C. Calhoun was an American politician who served as Secretary of War, Secretary of State,
United States Senator from South Carolina, and Vice President of the United States ( John C.
Calhoun ). During one of the most divided times in American history, John C. Calhoun was best
known for his support of slavery, and state sovereignty.
Throughout the 1800s, the United States was divided between those who wished to stop the
spread of slavery mainly in the Northern states, and those who demanded to preserve slavery
namely the Southern states. One may ponder how a member of society could be a proponent of
slavery; however, Calhoun was raised in the South where a person s value was often measured by
the amount of property they owned. It was

Effects Of Being A Foster Care On Children And Adolescents

Cause and Effect Essay
November 16, 2015 Effects of being in foster care on children and adolescents Being in foster
care can either have a positive effect on someone or it could have a very negative effect on
someone. In my case, it not only had a positive effect but it also had some downfalls. Most often
times children/adolescents are placed in foster care because it is a safer environment for them to
live in. Foster care is positive in many ways. They are positive in being it can give children and
adolescents a safer home/environment to live in, it can stabilize the adolescent/child, and it can
give the individual a more positive look on life. Although foster care can have many positive
effects on an individual it can also have many negative effects. Foster care and being removed
from the place the child grew up in can cause attachment issues, mental health issues, eating
disorders, it can cause a child to become depressed and become more prone to drugs and alcohol,
and can cause lots of stress on an individual. When you are placing a child in a foster home, it
tends to be for the reason that the child was originally not in a good home. Their home with their
biological parents could have been with drugs and alcohol. Their parents could have been drug
dealers or constant drinkers or smokers. The parents may not have been able to afford the child.

Retention Essay
Retention is one of the key prerequisites for or outcomes of learning that can either be reinforced
positively as well as negatively or otherwise optimized with respect to how the study time is to be
distributed across sessions. Intuitively, it would appear plausible that, increasing the uninterrupted
study duration would map into superior retention and learningoutcomes. The present paper critically
addresses some empirical findings that could question the unaided intuition along these lines while
shedding light on the interaction channels or trade offs to be defined across a set of additional
explanatory variables.
Analysis
It has been demonstrated (Rohrer Pashler, 2007) that, the aforementioned massed exposure as a

In other words, achieving a perfect score might either not be an option from the outset or would
alternatively take prohibitively long in terms of fixed duration (which exogenous time constraint
can still be varied at a higher level of analysis as warranted) or observation horizon (which is also
assumed away as if it were fixed and nearly instantaneous).
For that matter, massed or amassed exposure to prolonged session or a series of homogeneous study
setups at a stretch could have some equivalents that are difficult to distinguish between while
possibly concealing some critical nuances that might call for further extensions to the naГЇve
analysis.
In particular, although the study appears to chiefly criticize as overlearning setups featuring highly
homogeneous exposures (e.g. word lists, math problems, and the like), still these might have some
crucial heterogeneity to them that renders even such seemingly unrewarding schemes effective in
enabling the learners to gain an appreciation for repetitive as well as systematic patterns. In other
words, this may cultivate a more holistic perception of the otherwise unfamiliar content (which
domain need not be treated in gestalt or similar terms), with overlaps as well as dissimilarities
being inferred and likely discerned or retrieved over the long haul. This mode of overlearning
would render the

Planning Consultants Of Somersworth, New Hampshire
According to the planning consultants of Somersworth, New Hampshire (2010) a new Master Plan
has been revised for a vision into 2020 due to significant investment in both the private and public
sector. Somersworth is currently undergoing significant change since 2000 and these modifications
to the city allow for several social and economic opportunities in the area. Development and
redevelopment that has occurred since 2000 has been the relocation of both CityHall and the Police
Department, the renovation of an old mill building into residential units and small business offices,
an expansion of retail development and medical offices, constructing a connector road from High
Street to Route 108, establishing business parks, developing a golf course and a recreational
facility, upgrading the wastewater treatment facilities, and lastly, dedicating land acquisition to
conservation purposes (Master Plan Update, 2010).
The basis of this paper is to layout improvements that can be made to the Master Plan of
Somersworth, as well as provide improvements for the community. One of the most prominent
assets to the Master Plan was appointing a committee for the 2020 Vision in hopes to create a
positive future. Some of the goals the committee is striving to accomplish are as follows: an
ability to take a strategic goal and turn it into a practical plan, an incorporation of a revitalization
plan, an evaluation of new ways for economic growth, enabling a conservation plan for a sustainable

Financial Aid in Education Essay
Financial Aid in Education
A guy in $50,000 of debt has got to be irresponsible with his money right? Actually, it is more likely
that he is a college student. Hundreds of thousands of college students around the country are in a
financial predicament because of the government?s impersonal financial aid policies. The federal
government?s current system has too many quirks which end up hurting the people that financial
aid is supposed to help. The federal government should change its financial aid policies to take
several more factors, such as the percentage of educational expenses paid by the student, into
account.
Under the present system, all students applying for federal aid file a form called the Free
Application for Federal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The federal government does not use this application for aid. The CSS Profile is a service
provided by The College Board. It includes many more factors such as the age of the parents, house
payments, and car payments. Mostly expensive private universities use the CSS Profile because
their students have much more financial need.
The current system does a fairly decent job of predicting the amount of aid needed assuming both
the parents and the student are paying for the student?s education. The big problem with the system
is that not all parents help pay for their child?s education. According to the current system, the
student would have to cover the expected contribution from their parents as well as their own
expected contribution should their parents decide not to help foot the bill. For example, if a
student from a middle class family which is earning $70,000 a year. Assuming the student was
earning $3,000, and that student wanted to attend Duke University, approximately $33,000 a year,
the family would be expected to pay $13,641 of the bill for each year2. If the parents choose not to
help the student pay, then it would be the student?s responsibility to pay every bit of the $13,641.
How many students graduating high school can afford that? I think that this factor could quite
possibly be the biggest reason that students think they cannot afford college.
Another problem is that the current system actually punishes students for saving their

Abstract Cloud computing has been envisioned as the next generation architecture of the IT
enterprise due to its on demand self service, ubiquitous network access, location independent
resource pooling , rapid resource elasticity and usage based pricing . The fundamental aspect of
cloud storage computing model is that data is being centralized or outsourced into the cloud
without the burden of local hardware and software management thereby new and challenging threat

Global Automotive Industry- Porter s 5 Forces
Porter s Five Forces Analysis
Michael Porter identified five forces that influence an industry. These forces are: (1) degree of
rivalry; (2) threat of substitutes; (3) barriers to entry; (4) buyer power; and (5) supplier power. For
more on this framework proposed by Porter, please see Appendix C. Like other industries operating
under free market, capitalistic systems, viewing the automotive industry through the lens of Porter
s Five Forces can be helpful in understanding the forces at play.
Degree of Rivalry
Despite the high concentration ratios seen in the U.S. market, which typically signify that a lesser
degree of competition is seen in the industry, rivalry in the U.S. and the global automotive industry

The switching costs associated with using a different mode of transportation, such as train, may be
high in terms of personal time (i.e., independence), convenience, and utility (e.g., luggage capacity),
but not necessarily monetarily (e.g., round trip train fare on MARTA would most likely be less
expensive than the cost of fuel consumed on a similar round trip, daily parking, car insurance, and
maintenance).
The exception to this statement occurs in the global urban areas with high population densities. In
these areas, the substitutes available (e.g., walking, mass transit, bicycles, etc.) can be less costly
than automobiles and thus alternative modes of transportation are often preferred.
Also, there are inherent underlying social and cultural attitudes that keep people from owning
automobiles in some parts of the world. Many nations are not as spread out or as mobile as the
U.S.; they are constrained either by geography, race, class, or religion and the need for personal
transportation is not as great, yet. The American dream of a car [or two] in every garage is not
what the rest of the world currently wants or needs. However, the marketing arms of the global
automotive manufacturers are certainly working very hard to change this paradigm, and with
unprecedented production volumes world wide, all signs indicate that they are succeeding. Most

soldiers carried these various objects in addition to the necessities. Items such as the Bible, photos,

of the soldiers to remember the past, but also concentrate on the future while staying alive. Even
though these items were designed initially for comfort and protection, the outcome proved to be

Rodrigues discusses in some detail how Fayol s principles of management individually are/are not
used in modern management. He doesn t necessarily hold a contention or argument as he is
ultimately comparing and contrasting the world of management in US organisations from early
1900 s to now. However the result of each of his discussions fall in the same favour each time,
which may potentially be viewed as a bias and further as a limitation of this journal. A further

Pryor, MS amp; Taneja, S 2010, Henry Fayol, practitioner and theoretician revered and reviled ,
Journal of Management History, vol. 16, no. 4, pp. 489 503.
The purpose of this paper by Pryor amp; Taneja (2010) is to illustrate through examining
contemporary management and management theories how Fayol s contribution of his principles
and model theory is relevant in management today.
This is done by a process of researching and examining the work of major academics (e.g.
Mintzberg (1989), Porter (1985), Taylor (1947), Kotter (1982), amp; Berdaves (2002)) Pryor and
Taneja (2010) compare the works and ideas of both Fayol and these authors to find the similarities
and differences between their theories.
A limitation of this article may be the large focus of similarities between studies, paying rare
attention to the differences between Fayol and the given management theorist. Future studies on
this issue should be undertaken in an argumentative manner, given equivalent attention to both
aspects of the argument. Indeed; this article supports the conclusions of similar studies (e.g.
Rodrigues, 2001. Archer, 1990. Fells, 2000) that Fayol s theory is relevant today, and that his 5
management functions are evident in all organisations (Hales 1986). Another shared conclusion
between journals is that Fayol s work sets the foundations of management practise and theory today.
Even though Mintzberg (1973) argues differently, his theory tends to

While conducting the business check, I was alerted by Walmart Loss Prevention Officer, Marion Edwards, that a White, GMC Yukon, that was missing the front bumper was involved in an attempted theft of a coffee maker approximately two weeks prior. Edwards requested that I make contact with the vehicle, which was parked in row #7 in the Walmart parking lot. Edwards was requesting that I issues a trespass warnings to the vehicle s occupants. I located the vehicle and pulled behind it without my emergency lights activated and I made contact with both the female driver and passenger. Shortly after, Edwards arrived on scene and he suspected that the driver, identified as Taya... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Several attempts were made to contact Catellier by Stewart, via cell phone, with negative results. Edwards advised me that Walmart wanted the vehicle removed from the property. Edwards then called a tow company to have the vehicle removed from the property. Both Brasch and Stewart were issued trespass warnings per Edwards request. I advised both subjects that they would be arrested if the returned to Walmart, located at 8701 U.S. Highway 19 in Port Richey. Steward acknowledged, and she signed the trespass warning before leaving the scene with Brasch s cell phone (per her request). Brasch later signed the trespass warning at central booking. While en route to central booking, Brasch admitted that she was the driver of the vehicle from the theft that occurred several weeks prior. Furthermore, Brasch advised me that the subject who attempted to steal the coffee maker was her ex boyfriend, identified as Stephen Martin Genualdi. Edwards later confirmed that Genualdi was the subject who attempted the theft by his last arrest photo on the Pasco County Sheriff s Office website. However, Edwards declined to prosecute. • 3. Spartacus Corruption Spartacus takes place during the first century BC, in the ancient roman empire. this empire has slid into corruption and moral decay, extensively employing the work of slaves to carry out the lesser jobs of society. these slaves are often mistreated, abused, exploited, and worked until death, as shown in the opening scene where Spartacuss friend dies from work exhaustion. This opening scene takes place in a Roman salt mine in the province of Libya, where a large group of slaves toil with pick and axe to extract the precious mineral from the ground, and Roman soldiers guard, and abuse the slaves. the commentary tells us of the hopelessness of the soldiers situation, and that the only freedom they can hope of achieving is death. He also attempts to make friends with an Ethiopian slave by the name of Draba, however Draba refuses, citing how gladiators do make friends, as the y may be required to kill one another in the arena. During this time the gladiators are kept in poor conditions, more akin to a prisoners life than an athletes, however some relief is given in the form of occasionally being allowed to sleep with a number of slave women. One such women is Varinia who meets Spartacus one night, and instead of the performing the regular sexual acts with one another, they form a friendship, which evolves into a bond born of love over the course of their time at the school. When taunted by Batiatus over His situation with Varinia, Spartacus shouts I m not an animal at him. Varinia, present at the time, quietly says neither am I . This exchange of dialogue serves to show that the slaves, as a rule, considered themselves to be human beings, entitles=d to the rights in which they had been deprived as ... • 4. The Ethics Of Genetic Testing Genetic testing is a relatively new and rapidly emerging field. Even though this science was seen as controversial, genetic testing has been going on for conditions such as phenylketonuria and sickle cell disease for years. The increase in genetic testing has resulted in the convergence of public health, morals and ethics. Many ethics related issues arise with genetic testing, as well of fear that insurance companies will not reimburse such services. Many moral and ethical obligations appear with genetic testing. For instance, the decision to inform relatives of a patient with test results, whether positive or negative is highly controversial. The decision to inform or not varies, and is based on different moral theories. Genetic testing comprises of three forms. They are diagnostic, carrier, and predictive testing. Diagnostic testing involves identifying the state of a current disease. An example of this is prenatal and newborn screening, which is the most common form of genetic testing. Carrier testing is done to determine if a patient is a carrier of a certain genetic trait. Each individual s genetic traits are comprised of two chromosomes, one inherited from the father and one from the mother. A genetic disorder is either dominant or recessive. When a person has one abnormal chromosome, this is considered dominant. If a genetic disorder is recessive, the disease characteristics are present when the individual has two abnormal chromosomes. • 6. Example Of Dichotomy Victor Hanson s article lacks supporting evidence and provides a narrow point of view to a complex situation. When evaluating information and determining if it is logically compelling, the premises must be acceptable, relevant, and sufficient. The article does not meet the required premises because it lacks sufficient support and contains several logical fallacies. The premise of the article is that the United States will continue to decline and potentially cease to exist if they continue to reduce defense spending and increase social spending, which results in more government dependent citizens. The premise is a slippery slope fallacy. A slippery slope logical fallacy occurs when a predicted outcome is based on a specific chain reaction, but there is not enough evidence to support the chain reaction will occur or produce the predicted outcome. The article references four different historical civilizations that failed because their citizens grew dependent on the government and because their government cut defense spending. The historical civilizations mentioned lack similarities to the U.S. government s structure, current international relations, military capability and economic capacity. The increase in government ... • 7. Aristotelian Tragedy Macbeth Essays Aristotelian Tragedy: Macbeth Aristotle is known widely for developing his ideas on tragedy. He recorded these ideas in his Poetics in which he comments on the plot, purpose, and effect that a true tragedy must have. The structure of these tragedies has been an example for many writers including Shakespeare himself. Many of Shakespeare s plays follow Aristotelian ideas of tragedy, for instance Macbethdoes a decent job in shadowing Aristotle s model. Aristotle describes one of the most important elements of a tragedy to be a tragic hero. The tragic hero however must present certain qualities such as nobility and virtue. In the play Macbeth, Macbeth is a perfect example of a tragic hero. Macbeth begins the play coming home from battle,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Macbeth does not go unpunished as he suffers countless dreams and illusions that drive him to insanity. The loss of his wife also brings Macbeth to his final denouement. In the end, Macbeth is killed by Macduff; because of his arrogance he believed he was invincible even after being told his fate. Macbeth reaches his end through the same way he lived his life, through murder and deception. Many argue over the fairness of Macbeth s life, but the goal of a tragedy in Aristotle s view point is to strike fear and pity in the audience through harsh punishment upon the hero in extreme ways. Finally, Aristotle claims that in order for a tragedy to be effective, the fear and pity must be released from the audience through catharsis. First the tragic hero must gain some knowledge from his tragic life. Macbeth shows this self realization in his yellow leaf soliloquy when he expresses remorse for his actions. Also, in the end he knows he must fight until the end whether his fate is death. At this point the audience is cleansed of the emotions of the plot and the tragedy is finished. Macbeth is a primary example of a typical Aristotelian tragedy. It follows the structure necessary from the tragic hero, to his downfall and ultimately to the catharsis necessary for an original Greek drama. The aspects of this play are a perfect example of the tragedies of that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Niccolo Machiavelli Philosophy Of New Orders Niccolo Machiavelli teaches us that establishing and/or founding new orders and modes it can be difficult to enforce when acquiring new principalities but it also a necessity to keep the state and secure it. New orders are more difficult to handle, more doubtful of success, nor more dangerous to manage, than to put oneself at the head of introducing new orders (23). With new orders can come great success, for it is tough to achieve greater success than their predecessors by just imitating what they already have put in place. When old laws are still in tack it can cause adversaries, who believe the law is on their side, therefore when enforcing new laws one must beg or indeed can use force (24). But, once new orders are put into place either by will or force, they remain powerful, secure, honored, and happy (25). Niccolo Machiavelli considers Cesare Borgia to be a great example to follow if one wishes to apprehend, secure, and strengthen their principalities. Cesare Borgia was a great prince whom gained his principality through his father Pope Alexander VI by fortune. He exhibited great prowess to secure his state, but lost it to unfortunate fortune, that led to his fall and death. Cesare Borgia, called Duke Valentino, came into power through his roots in the state that the arms and fortune of others had given him (27). Borgia should great signs of staying in power and expanding his foundations by not only conquering the Romagna. But, also, he used tactics to weaken powerful principalities, gained a great amount of popularity and loyal noblemen. First, it was necessary for Cesare Borgia, to upset orders to bring disorder to their states to be able to make himself secure (27). When the duke came into power he could not trust no one, for the people were all loyal to Orsini and Colonna. In order secure his new state, he had to seek out and eliminate his competition. With the help of his father, he was able to gain Romagna from Colonna by using force and some cruelty, and then allowed the country to be ran on its own. He then, brought Orsini supporters loyalty through big allowances, honoring them, and giving them promotions within the government. Through these tactics he was able to turn all ... • 9. Comparison Of Monster In Frankenstein In the Novel Frankenstein by Mary shelly, the novel jumps between the two narrative perspectives of monster and creator. By jumping from two different perspectives throughout the novel we are able to understand the thoughts and feelings of each character in a new way. Reading through different perspectives, allows the story to have greater depth and meaning. Each perspective brings a new dimension to the novel that makes for a more complex story. Furthermore, the perspectives allow for the two characters to be compared and contrasted throughout the entirety of the novel. When reading from Victor s point of view, we can see how he feels about the monster. How can I describe my emotions at this catastrophe, or how delineate the wretch whom with such infinite pains and care I had endeavoured to form? The state is nothing but an instrument of oppression of one class by another no less so in a democratic republic than in a monarchy. This is a quote from social scientist Fredrich Engels that shows the outlook of most people towards a privileged ruling; this system was deemed unfair to the majority, which led to monarchies, the main representative of minority ruling, losing their power. Most major leaders in any industry have attended top institutions that are known for their prestigious alumni, it is shown that 54% of corporate leaders and 42% of political leaders only attended twelve schools which include schools such as Yale and Stanford (Reynolds). Many of these institutions do not just rely on good grades, but also on social profile and it is shown that it is practically impossible to flunk out of American colleges since the seventies (Codevilla). These persistent school trends show the close minded atmosphere that racks the upper class, which also leads to less disagreements due to the fact that so many ideas receive no competition from other major elites. In the late 1920s, the Committee on Uniform Crime Records was established by the International Association of the Chiefs of Police (IACP). The goal of the Committee was to develop a systematic way to measure crime in the United States. The Committee collaborated and decided to focus on seven (7) specific crimeareas which they felt were the most known crimes and the most likely to be reported. These crimes were: burglary, robbery, larceny theft, rape, auto theft, murder and aggravated assault (James Rishard, 2008). The IACP developed their own definitions of these crimes to ensure uniformity of reporting the data collected. This information and definitions were published in 1929 in the Uniform Crime Reporting Manual. The first report of data collected was published later that same year and was amassed from 400 cities across the 48 contiguous United States, as well as the territories of Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. For the deaf, ineffective communication is a major problem especially when onset of profound deafness takes places at an early age before language is acquired. At school, the language of classroom communication not only affects the child s development but also influences ability to learn other curriculum contents. Pointing out reasons for failure by deaf children to compete favorably with their hearing peers, Johnson et al (1989) has indicated that the central problem on deaf education is embedded in the lack of an appropriate language of classroom communication. For a long time education for the deaf was conducted through the oral approach. It was later realized that this oral approach did not avail curriculum content to the deaf learners. In the 1980 s Total Communication arose as one of the solutions. According to Adoyo(2004), Total Communication was misunderstood for Simultaneous Communication, a communication system in which speech and sign are produced at the same time (Lane, Hoffmister Bahan, 1996). The Romans engineering skills contributed greatly to the establishment of their civilization. But it is the Romans water system of that set them as an advanced and modern civilization. The Romans were very skilled architects to an extent that some of their work, such as aqueducts, is still in existence. Some aqueducts are even still in use by modern day societies to supply fountains with water. An aqueduct is a water supply or navigable channel constructed to convey water. Since water is one of life s most important necessities, the ancient Romans built aqueducts in all parts of their empire making it way easier to transport and provide the empire with water. • 26. Army Tactical Wheeled Vehicle Strategy Does the high cost of the JLTV preclude it from replacing the HMMWV, as outlined in the 2010 U.S. Army Tactical Wheeled Vehicle Strategy? In September 2011, the Senate Appropriations Defense Subcommittee voted to cancel the Army and Marine Corps Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) in their version of the fiscal year 2012 defense bill (Munoz, 2011). This measure could have completely shut down efforts to replace a thirty year old fleet of Humvees, loyal but potentially outmoded tactical wheeled vehicles. The Army s Modernized Expanded Capacity Vehicle program has been a project set to replace the High Mobility, Multi Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) family in the works for years. The project, however, continues to be stymied by budgetary constraints. Per vehicle costs for the JLTV begin at $250,000 and are likely to climb, as Lockheed Martin secured a preliminary contract for engineering, design, and development. The high cost of the JLTV does preclude it from completely replacing the HMMWV, and yet cost does not preclude the JLTV from supplementing the Army s fleet. A middle ground solution is the best method of maximizing initial investments, while also banking on the robustness of national security. Dumping can interfere with proper drainage of runoff. Areas are more susceptible to flooding when waste blocks 6 ravines, creeks, culverts, and drainage basins. In rural areas, burning at dump sites can cause forest fires and severe erosion as fires burn away trees and undergrowth. The run off from improper disposal of toxic substances such as motor oil or household cleansers can contaminate lakes, streams, and drinking water supplies. Dumping also has a negative impact on plants and wildlife. Many birds and small animals die after ingesting or becoming entangled in debris. Fish and other aquatic species are killed when decomposing litter and food wastes in streams deplete oxygen supplies in the water. Refuse in a stream can also clog fish spawning areas. Dumped appliances are not only an eyesore, but can also release toxic chemicals. Refrigerators and freezers may release chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) into the air, harming the earth s protective ozone layer. Improperly discarded appliances built before 1979 may also leak polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) into the soil. The Preventive Approach Of The First Policing System Essay Since the emergence of the first policing systems, there have been many different types emerge throughout different periods in history. The three main types of policing have been preventative, reactive, and proactive. These were each created in their own times to help combat crime or to aid the publics general safety. Each were suited to society s needs at the time, the technology, and the diversity of the people. The preventative approach focuses on preventing future crime. To do this the policeuse methods such as patrolling areas where crime rates are higher to deter criminals. The reactive approach was more of a crime fighting mentality, where the focus was on arrest rates and response times. Police officers were very detached from general society and the us vs them mentality was strong within the force. The reactive policing style came about due to the technological advancements being made in the field such as having patrol cars instead of foot patrols, thus, taking the officers out of the public (Goff, 2017). Proactive policing began to emerge in the 1970 s in a hope to rebuild the publics relationship and trust in the police officers through the idea of policing by consent. This method of policing requires the police to control crime through more positive methods and involving the community in the overall prevention and deterrence of crime. Liver Enzyme Lab Andra Larade Bio 30 B7 11/20/15 Liver Enzyme Lab The Effect of pH and Temperature on the Efficiency of Catalase Abstract: In order to determine how pH and temperature affect the liver enzyme catalase, an experiment was conducted. Catalase breaks apart hydrogen peroxide producing water and oxygen. Using an O2 sensor to measure how much additional oxygen is added into a sealed Nalgene bottle, we could determine the enzymes effectiveness. Three variations of temperature were tested: cold, hot and room temperature. This was done by taking test tubes with the three different samples and placing them in a Nalgene Bottle. It was determined that the enzyme is most effective when at room temperature although still functions when it is chilled. The heated sample was drastically less effective. The pH was tested by adding acid (HCl), base () and neutral (water) to the enzyme. When the enzyme samples were tested using the hydrogen peroxide and O2 sensor test it was determined that any ... In my case, it not only had a positive effect but it also had some downfalls. Most often times children/adolescents are placed in foster care because it is a safer environment for them to live in. Foster care is positive in many ways. They are positive in being it can give children and adolescents a safer home/environment to live in, it can stabilize the adolescent/child, and it can give the individual a more positive look on life. Although foster care can have many positive effects on an individual it can also have many negative effects. Foster care and being removed from the place the child grew up in can cause attachment issues, mental health issues, eating disorders, it can cause a child to become depressed and become more prone to drugs and alcohol, and can cause lots of stress on an individual. The exception to this statement occurs in the global urban areas with high population densities. In these areas, the substitutes available (e.g., walking, mass transit, bicycles, etc.) can be less costly than automobiles and thus alternative modes of transportation are often preferred. Also, there are inherent underlying social and cultural attitudes that keep people from owning automobiles in some parts of the world. Many nations are not as spread out or as mobile as the U.S.; they are constrained either by geography, race, class, or religion and the need for personal transportation is not as great, yet. The American dream of a car [or two] in every garage is not what the rest of the world currently wants or needs. Most with the ability and means to own a vehicle, who live in a society with the necessary infrastructure (e.g., roads and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. How Does Tim O Brien Use Mental Flashbacks In The Things... Throughout 1964 to 1975 the Vietnam War was taking place on Korean soil in South Vietnam. Many young soldiers were called to serve during the war including Tim O Brien. In the story The Things They Carried, Tim O Brien illustrates realistic views by camouflages his past experiences of the combat to expose the immorality of the war and the life cycle of an American soldier during this era. As the story unfolds we see evidence of camouflage by O Brien as he creates a replica of a typical day of a soldier s life with mental flashbacks. Unlike the soldiers, O Brien was engaged with his own pass experience, from letters received from Martha as a mental coverup or pretense from the daily toil. Obrien openly confesses More than... Endurance, stamina, and fortitude are physical traits soldiers must have to be able to survive. Brute strength was needed to carry up to 60 pounds of items including food and ammunition daily. Things such as the three standard weapons .... the M 60, M 16 and M 79 were carried because it was appropriate as means of killing or staying alive. (O Brien 104) Other more personal items were carried as a means of protecting their own psyche for some; others for mere realities of life. The soldiers carried these various objects in addition to the necessities. Items such as the Bible, photos, panty hoes and dope all helped the soldiers cope with the war. Their function served to allow some of the soldiers to remember the past, but also concentrate on the future while staying alive. Even though these items were designed initially for comfort and protection, the outcome proved to be rather insignificant resulting in physical or emotional additions. Although the young soldiers, crippled with fear and uncertainty, wanted to remain connected to what was familiar to them, much of these tangible and intangible items became paramount distractions during a time where their skills as soldiers should have been in peak ... • 53. Mama Nila Who Taught Me to Cook and Inspired my Cooking? I remember this: I was 5 years old, a Spanish speaking Jewish girl by ethnicity and Catholic by religion living with her family in a house in the state of San Salvador in El Salvador. We were a hard working family by most standards. Both of my parents own a Jewelry store in down town San Salvador, earning money every day, which made us high middle class by Salvadorians standards. I also have a brother. We lived in a time during war in the country and a combination of irregular pay, hope, fear and military government. In this times, Mama Nila told me to have a positive attitude while teaching me how to cook. I call my grandmother Mama Nila, she was one of the few Jews who live in San Salvador ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My mama Nila took some of her precious time to teach me how to cook. I remember that at first, I learned to heat the oven to 350 and then, heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium high heat. That temperature is very high so, I was afraid of getting burned. But my grandma made it easy for me because she just held my little hand and turn on the oven. This made me feel more confident, and secure because she was next to me. Next, I learned to add onion, celery, salt, and peppers to pan; sautГ© 6 minutes or until onion is tender. Then, Mama Nila taught me how to combine cornstarch and beef, tossing well to coat. I tried to mix the ingredients with a circular motion until well blended, but it was a little bit difficult to blend because it was my first time doing it. So mama Nila told me to be patient and keep do it until I get all the ingredients in a uniform consistency form. I kept trying it, until I got it right, and that makes me happy because I learned how to blend the mixture ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 55. Essay on Annotated Bibliographies; Henri Fayol s Work... Rodrigues, CA, 2001, Fayol s 14 principles of management then and now: a framework for managing today s organizations effectively , Management Decision, vol. 31, no. 10, pp. 880 889. Rodrigues discusses in some detail how Fayol s principles of management individually are/are not used in modern management. He doesn t necessarily hold a contention or argument as he is ultimately comparing and contrasting the world of management in US organisations from early 1900 s to now. However the result of each of his discussions fall in the same favour each time, which may potentially be viewed as a bias and further as a limitation of this journal. A further limitation of this article is that it blurs the line between positive and normative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pryor, MS amp; Taneja, S 2010, Henry Fayol, practitioner and theoretician revered and reviled , Journal of Management History, vol. 16, no. 4, pp. 489 503. The purpose of this paper by Pryor amp; Taneja (2010) is to illustrate through examining contemporary management and management theories how Fayol s contribution of his principles and model theory is relevant in management today. This is done by a process of researching and examining the work of major academics (e.g. Mintzberg (1989), Porter (1985), Taylor (1947), Kotter (1982), amp; Berdaves (2002)) Pryor and Taneja (2010) compare the works and ideas of both Fayol and these authors to find the similarities and differences between their theories. A limitation of this article may be the large focus of similarities between studies, paying rare attention to the differences between Fayol and the given management theorist. Future studies on this issue should be undertaken in an argumentative manner, given equivalent attention to both aspects of the argument. Indeed; this article supports the conclusions of similar studies (e.g. Rodrigues, 2001. Archer, 1990. Fells, 2000) that Fayol s theory is relevant today, and that his 5 management functions are evident in all organisations (Hales 1986). Another shared conclusion between journals is that Fayol s work sets the foundations of management practise and theory today. Even though Mintzberg (1973) argues differently, his theory tends to ...
