My Rifle Research Paper
I have got very many gifts and a bunch of unique, special gifts. This unreal item was a .308
caliber rifle. It was such an outrage of excitement as my parents were giving it to me. Three
aspects of the gun stood out to me it had a great design to it, the size of the caliber, and the size
of the gun itself. The design was an option of my choice, I had always wanted a rifle like this one.
My rifle, in my opinion, has one of the most distinctive designs for a rifle. Starting at the stock of
the gun, it was sleek, natural camouflage , synthetic stock. As you go up the gun, you arrive at
the metal parts, and this matte finish of black really matched the stock, which gave it my
attention as I focused on it at first glance. The barrel, at the peak of the gun adjacent to the
opening system, was thick, so if I was to shoot multiple times in a row the barrel wouldn t warp
after constant heating through the violent explosion of the cartridge as the bullets races through
the end of the barrel. On the other hand, the bullet measurements were just as important. At the
time I was given the gun, I wasn t very old or strong. If I was too have received this rifle in any
caliber bigger than .308 I wouldn t have been able to shoot it. On the other side, the deer I was to be

As I mentioned before, I was not a strong kid, for if the gun was to heavy for me, I wouldn t have
had the chance to shoot it till recently. As for what came with moderately strong, I wasn t very
tall, therefore meaning I couldn t have a long gun or I couldn t reach the trigger to pull it as I
was hunting. The size of the gun was probably the most important thing to me because I hadn t
ever had a gun before this one that would fit me as perfectly as the one I have described here does.

Santa Marta Settlement Of A Farm Owned By Francisco Jose...
Minoja (2012) found that until 1824, the area now occupied by Santa Marta settlement is part
of a farm owned by Francisco Jose Leite, Baron of Vassouras. In 1824 the land then passed to a
second owner of the farm to the Baron of Macaubas. In 1920 began the growth of the nearby
suburb of Copacabana and Botafogo, causing large amounts of development and thus increasing
the need for workers. On Santa Marta hill, due to the construction of Santo Inacio church and
college, many people migrated for the economic opportunities offered by the project and for the
land in which to erect houses offered by the priests. This project lasted almost 30 years.
The priest permitted the workers to erect their houses on Santa Marta hill, marking the beginning of
this settlement. The first dwellings were built on the top section of the hill surrounded by the
atlantic forest, one of the first being the chapel built by Jesuit priests consecrated to Santa Marta, in
which the settlement is named after (Minoja, 2012, pg41).
Between 1930 1940 many people migrated from other areas of Brazil, as a result over time the
settlement densified and grew downwards towards the city. In 1940 approximately 31% of Brazil
s population was living in urban areas and the first census was conducted of 14 favelas in Rio de
Janeiro (Minoja, 2012).
Santa Marta was one of the first favelas in Rio de Janeiro to experience intervention from the two

a. It was hard to outline and cut the 2 paper strips to their exact measurements.
b. It was hard to place the water equally distant from each other.
c. The color from the candies dissolved into the water and disappeared from half of each of the
candies.
d. The colors began to fade and dissolve from the strip of paper. Using the salt solution, the only
colors visible were yellow, orange, green and red. These colors were mixed, meaning there s more
of a lime and turquoise within the colors.
e. The dots also became more faded as the experiment went under way.
Discussion Solution
1. The 1% saltwater solution was easy to create, however there was a greater amount of this

Important Aspects Of A Functioning Classroom
Through this past semester, we have heavily discussed the important aspects of a functioning
classroom, from different theorists to helpful teaching techniques. We ve debated what it means to
be a great teacher. There are quite a few flaws in our education system today, but I believe most of
the theories we discussed could be accorporated much more in the classroom. John Dewey,
Friedrich Froebel, Maria Montessori, and Lev Vygotsky all understood the way children think and
the importance of imaginative play. They also understood that children need to be active in nature.
Also, we have discussed different forms of learning, such as project based learning, and outdoor
classrooms. In my opinion, the educationsystem should have minor changes that benefit the
students more. Despite the various flaws, schools are extremely important for students
especially on a social stand point. They can be around children their own age and interact in
various scenarios. Socializing is important for children of all ages, it helps them develop listening
skills, communication skills, how to share, how to work in groups, and compromise. Every
interaction a child has is a learning experience. They learn what is right or wrong and how to
communicate appropriately, social interaction plays a key role in cognitive development. Lev
Vygotsky was a cognitive theorist who believed social interaction and imaginative play were
critical in child development. Imaginative play is actually a complex process

Social, Political And Economic Equality Of The Sexes
Feminist: the person who believes in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes. ,
those are the words used to define a feminist by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The quote was later
sampled by popular music artist Beyonce in her song, Flawless , from her self titled album. This
quote and a performance of the song later caused an unforeseen backlash by some feminist.
Pandemonium ensued as a result of Beyonce s actions. Feminist debated about who can and
cannot call themselves a feminist. Feminist argued Beyonce, her music, and dancing supported
a misogynistic culture. They falter by proclaiming one brand of feminism is better than the
other. The overall message you can t be too risquГ©, or you cannot be feminist. Recently, there
has been a tsunami of scrutiny thrown at Columbia recording artist, Beyonce, who performed at
the nationally televised Video Music Awards, commonly referred to as the VMAs. While
performing, Beyonce stood on stage with her fist clinched and the word Feminist behind her.
She was quickly praised, but at the same time scolded. Beyonce was scolded for having sexually
suggestive lyrics, provocative dancing, and her lifestyle. Lyrics like Bow down bitches! , that
were seen as derogatory to women. She was seen as sexually provocative while dancing on poles,
and twerking on stage. Beyonce was also scolded for being rich, and selling a consumerist lifestyle
other could not afford. I beg to argue each of these statements. Although not a huge

The Development of Video Games
In society s current era of technological advancement, video games have gone a long way since they
were first created. Video games in the twenty first century are no longer just toys or junk in the
lifestyles of the youth. They have become innovative inventions that not only entertain its users, but
also help aid the people in both the academic field and in jobs. The influences that video games
bring about in the culture of the youth today are, in fact, not the negative influences that most
people think. Video games are actually this generation s new medium for educating the youth. The
information they learn are also mostly positive and useful things that they may apply in their future
lives (Prensky 4). In a generation that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These forgeries resulted to the crash of Atari. Following this, many gamers wanted more fun,
meaningful and higher quality games (Tobias and Fletcher, eds. 22). Atari s comeback came with
its console called the Video Computer System which was like a computer with an eight bit
processor. (Kent 100). Then in 1982, the VCS version of Atari s Pac Man was released and was
also one of the most anticipated video game cartridges of all time. Atari even manufactured twelve
million Pac Man cartridges based on the demand of its consumers (Kent 227). By the end of
1982, Atari had come up with a new console called the Atari 5200. Many reviewers were
impressed with the 5200 and considered it as a huge improvement over the past console Atari
created. The Atari 5200 was praised for its high resolution color graphics, special effects, and
powerful system (Kent 230). It was also in the period of the 80s that Nintendo released its first
game in the United States called Radarscope, which did not sell well despite its positive standing
in Japan. Three thousand copies of Radarscope were shipped to the U.S. and because it did not
appeal to American audiences, Nintendo only sold one thousand units (Kent 156). Although
Nintendo was able to get in the American market, their games were not able to attract business.

The Following Includes Course Language, Viewer Discretion...
WARNING: The following includes course language, viewer discretion is advised
Everyday from the moment we wake up, we live our lives caring what other people think of us.
We accept the status quo for what it is because everyone around us does.
We tip toe our way through life by doing things in order to please others, not because it s what we
believe in. Eventually our actions, appearances, and lives become molded by how we think other
people perceive us.
Wow I can t wear this dress people are going to think I m fat. I can t talk to so and so because
everyone would get mad at me. If I did this what would my friends think of me, what would they
say?
Ahhh just saying those sentences gives me a headache. It is hard enough taking care of yourself
let alone trying to impress every other person in this world. Having to live up to society and other
peoples ideals of how you should be or how you should do things, its dreadful.
Now, while not giving a fuck may seem simple on the surface, its a whole new can of beans in real
life. What I m trying to say is that we are all going to struggle with these things on a day to day
basis, we can t just read something like this and tell ourselves, TODAY is the day I will stop
giving a fuck ...don t we wish it were that easy. The truth is sometimes we give a fuck about to
many things in situations where the fucks do not deserve to be given. We give a fuck about that

Noises Off Play Review
Last month, I had the privilege of attending the play Noises Off, a British splat stick comedy set
during the eighties. I had no prior information going into this performance, besides that it
involved a lot of door slamming and people prancing in their underwear. So, I knew that the play
was going to be very goofy and the characters hard headed. However, I had no expectations of
how I would be feel attending the play. I was not expecting to feel self conscious, agitated, and
exhausted from that experience. In all honesty, I did not care about my appearance when I
attended Noises Off. Even though I knew it it was a professional company that produce the play,
I still felt that it was a casual setting. So, I was surprised to find other patrons dressed to the
nines. Compared to them in their dresses and pressed slacks, I stuck out like a sore thumb with
my tank top and yoga pants. On top of that, I wore my hair out in its natural state which is a giant

Which means a lot of dry humor and slow pacing. Yet, for some people in the audience the
pacing was not slow at all. Actually, five minutes into the performance there was already a
person laughing. Normally, this would not have bothered me as much as it did, but this man s
laughter was obnoxious. It was loud and resembled the sound dolphins make to communicate
with one another. In the beginning, I found it difficult to lose myself in the performance when I
heard his laughter. At one point, I debated on leaving the play all together since I found it hard
to enjoy it. However, I came to my senses and realize that I was being just as obnoxious as his
laugh. It is not his fault that his laugh reaches that level of absurdity. I am glad that he enjoyed the
play as much as he did and I hope he never feels pressure to stifle his

You decided that it is time to start lifting weights, so you joined a gym. Now you are not sure

use the machines. So, which should you choose?
Free weights are usually preferred over machines by most people and (professionals or skilled

that of resistance machines. (Schwanbeck, 2008)

The Digital World Is Affecting Today s Youth
Sandra Boyd analyzes how nearly ubiquitous access to the digital world is affecting today s youth
in It s Complicated. She explains how the app generation is struggling to self identify and
successfully leverage the Internet to be app enabled. Youth s app dependency is a result of access
to digital technology and social media at an early age, and is preventing youth from properly self
identifying themselves. This, in turn, is affecting how they build relationships and how they think
creatively. The online community our group has decided to look into is the PCMasterRace
subreddit. This subreddit is a community of PC gamers sharing information about computer
hardware, postcreative and visually appealing computer configurations (called builds or rigs ) and
post satirical or funny pictures about trending topics. Reddit provides a platform for people with
unique special interests (i.e. PC s) to communicate and collaborate; it is a place where relationships
have the opportunity to be built and where creative ideas can be expressed openly.
Recently, a major topic of this subreddit has been to help console peasants ascend to the ranks of
the PC Master Race. Console peasants often deny that PCs outrank consoles in terms of
performance and ability when gaming and respond to PCMasterRace commentary by posting
nonsense, making claims that playing at suboptimal graphics settings on their consoles make for a
better atmosphere and an overall superior gaming experience.

Physical Discipline And Child Behavior Problems Essay
Topic/ Rationale/ Hypothesis
The topic in the article Physical Discipline and Child Behavior Problems: A study of Ethnic
Group Differences by Jodi Polaha, Robert E. Larzelere, Steven K. Sharpio and Gregory S. Petit is
researching the relation between parental discipline and how it relates to the child s behavior
expression problems within different ethnic groups. They re addressing how physical discipline in
different ethnic groups can affect children s way of expressing themselves in distinct ways.
Previous research shows when a parent s discipline is abusive then it often results in aggressive
behavior from the child (Cicchetti, Lynch, Shonk, Manly, 1992; Dodge, Bates Pettit, 1990;
Strassberg, Dodge, Pettit, 1994). Although, if the discipline is not abusive then the child is less
likely to be aggressive (Gershoff, 2002; Strassberg, Dodge, Bates, Pettit, 1992). In another study it
was found that different ethnic groups react differently to discipline between African American
children and European American children (Baumrind,1972; Lamborn, Dornbusch, Steinberg,1996).
Five years after the study was conducted it had been reported that European American children got
into more fights than the African American children (Gunnoe Mariner, 1997). Even though the
study s have factual results, there have been researchers who disagree with their findings because of
the bias circumstances such as having distinct ethnicities and parenting methods (Deater Deckard,

The Man In The Dead Machine Summary
In the poem The Man in the Dead Machine, Donald Hall uses vivid imagery and alternative
scenarios to emphasize the sheer overwhelming specter of death that loomed over those serving in
the greatest conflict known to man. The hook that Hall uses to initially provoke the readers interest
is the mentioning of the Grumman Hellcat, a fighter plane used by Americans in World War II.
Specifying the model of the fighter plane allows the reader to be knowledgeable about the setting
of the poem. The meaning of this poem focuses on the destructivity wartime causes on the life of
those in service. The main focal point Hall emphasizes throughout his poem is the uncertainty of
life and death. However, other important targets of this poem are suicide... Show more content on

Throughout this poem there are multiple ways Hall connects the poem to its core meaning.
Located within the title, the word dead is used to describe the machine. Being dead is the
ultimate end of a life and that uncertainty of death sparks fear among many people. The inclusion
of this certain word is used to set the tone of the poem as dark and gloomy and obtain the readers
interest. Another method used by Hall to convey the theme of death was through imagery. The
entire second stanza is a description of the pilot s skeleton strapped within the crashed plane.
Having such a graphic image portrayed, Hall is able to essentially shock his reader with the
gruesomeness that death produces. One of the last things the reader may decipher from this
poem is that life, just like war, is a trap. Within the third stanza, the pilot is said to be taking a
train to work and is held/ by the firm webbing of the train. The webbing infers that the pilot,
although not trapped in his plane, is trapped in the roles put forth by society. Throughout Halls
poem, many different ideas and topics can be deduced but the uncertainty of life and death stands
out as the main focal point. To emphasize the fragileness of life and death, Hall begins the poem
with a story of death and in the last stanza switches his perspective to the possible life the pilot
could have had if he survived. A topic vaguely brought up in this poem would be

Emperor Shi Huangdi Research Paper
Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi
The Qin dynasty was the most abridged dynasty ever in Ancient China but even though that,
Emperor Qin is the most paramount man who has lived in Ancient China. You may think he came
from a rich family because he was an emperor but think again! Some documents state that he was a
son of a lowly merchant family. This text is going to tell you all the significant events that occurred
then Emperor Qin was ruling Ancient China. Emperor Qin should be a remembered person for all
the impacts he did in Ancient China.
Emperor Qin was the very first emperor in Ancient China, who was born on the 18th of
February, 259 BCE in Handan, China and died in 210 BCE, East China, China. He was buried in

Furthermore, Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi had the idea of building the Great Wall of China. Facts

Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi the Qin dynasty was involved in fights with the Xiongnu tribe, but he

Please refer to (app. 5), the Social Foundry proposition directly tackles this problem by offering an
alternative pathway to further education and workplace training.
Over time we see our model being able to be replicated in numerous forms in many regions
throughout Australia. Currently our focus is limited to woodworking and carpentry, long term it
could be expanded into manufacturing, I.T., customer service, agriculture or food services just to
name a few.
The Social Foundry aims to focus on the needs of the Kyneton community located in the Macedon
Ranges. However, having access to the train line the scope of our demographic can reach as far
south as Gisborne and Castlemaine to the north.
Shortly the Social Foundry will be hiring a Head of Operations who will be overseeing the
mentoring program for our participants. We will also be establishing a strong presence in the
centre of Kyneton establishing a workshop where goods will be produced. This area will also act as
a community resource where we have partnered with Moto Bean Coffee Roasters. We will be
creating a place in Kyneton where young people will be trained in skills and be able to sell the
goods they produce. These goods will be for sale in this area where the public are welcome to

Essay on Biofilms
A biofilm is a layer consisting of various combinations of many different organisms, autotrophic
and heterotrophic. They are dense, organized communities of cells, encased in a self produced
slime. The bacteria grow together in water like atmospheres, attaching to a solid surface, forming a
small ecosystem. Biofilms are known as a micro environment, a micro habitat, or a slime matrix.
They help decompose dead organisms and recycle carbon and nutrients.
Biofilms are formed on almost any surface that is submerged in non sterile water. Even hot
springs, and glaciers. Examples of common places where biofilms are found are pipes, hulls of
ships, porcelain surface of toilet bowls, wood siding, shower tiles, plastics, wooden cutting boards,

This contains sugars such as glucose, galactose, mannose, fructose, rhamnose, N acetylglucosamine
and others. The fifth step is that the slime layer of EPS and bacteria entraps particulate materials
such as clay, organic materials, dead cells, and precipitated minerals, adding to the diverse biofilm.
The final and continuous step is when other organisms attach to the biofilms.
The formation of biofilms is not random but can be predicted by the process above. The biofilms
become attached to surfaces because of gravity, or bacteria that have a negative charge. The bacteria
senses and goes to the highest concentration of nutrients.
Biofilms are hard to treat for many reasons. The main reason is because they are highly resistant
to antibiotics. This is because the outer cells protect the inner cells from the antibiotic. Therefore,
a long term treatment of antibiotics is required to help the biofilm related infection. Living in
groups, give bacteria properties they didn t have when living alone. Another reason they re hard
to treat is because they are undefeatable by the body s natural immune defense system. Biofilms
avoid chemical disinfection in two different ways. The first is that a gel like polysaccharide layer
provides a physical barrier against any outside agent, biological or chemical. The second is that
even if a biocidal agent is introduced in a large enough quantity to eliminate the living bacteria, then

The Drug Created For Pregnant Women
Thalidomide was a drug created for pregnant women in 1957.It was first introduced on the market
in west Germany on October 1, 1957. It was created to help combat symptoms associated with
women s morning sickness, but it caused more harm than good. It created a worldwide epidemic. It
was created as a harmless sleeping pill. Thalidomidecreated many birth defects affecting 10,000
children worldwide like phocomelia and Amelia . Thalidomide could be bought without a
prescription from the doctor in west Germany. Thalidomide was put in other markets like in the
United Kingdom. Thalidomide is now a clinically effective and strictly restricted drug and treats
leprosy and multiple myeloma.
When taken in the first trimester thalidomide prevented the proper growth of the fetus, and
resulting in a birth defect in thousands of children around the world. When taken in first world
countries between day 20 to 36 of fertilization. The child or children would be born with limb and
other birth defects. During the 1950s and 1960s the children were known as Thalidomide babies.
The damage or the drug, which manifested itself in the form of absence or severe deformation of
the extremities ( arms, legs, hands and feet) and sometimes damage to the eyes, ears and internal
organs. One pill during the first three to four months is enough to cause these birth defects.

Analysis Of Opposition By Mitsuharu Kaneko
The poet Mitsuharu Kaneko, also known as the writer of the poem, Opposition, is widely
known as an anti war and anti establishmentarianism figure, and freely expressed his disdain
towards Japan s dictatorship at his time. Due to this, he reflects his desire for people to oppose it
and live with freedom in a poem that is centered around the theme of resistance in order to
illustrate the importance of one expressing their individuality. He successfully incorporates his
message into the poem through the words, actions, and characterization of his speaker. The
speaker expresses their ideas by using each stanza to display different examples of the basic,
normal aspects of society to emphasize that one should not be afraid to step out of the
boundaries that trap them in the regular aspects of society, conveying the message that to
oppose is to truly live with freedom. The first stanza begins with the speaker displaying
opposition towards the normal side of society to convey their message. They address how when

Pursuit Of Love In Aristophanes s Theory Of Romantic Love
Plato s Symposium gives us a look into how philosophers of the past viewed romantic love. Of all
the speeches given in this work, Aristophanes had one of the most interesting theories. His theory
referred to a myth in which at one point humans were very powerful. Because of these past humans
strength, the god Zeus decided to cut them all in half, forming two beings. Now, we as separated
humans are desperately trying to be reunited with our literal other half. With this myth in mind,
Aristophanes theorizes that loveis that pursuit of wholeness with our significant other. Socrates
takes a different approach when explaining his theory of love. Instead of focusing on love in the
romantic and sexual sense, as the others did, Socrates explains how love is the pursuit of
happiness. With that in mind the question is asked what, to humanity, would true happiness be
perceived as? Socrates answer: Immortality. Since immortality is unrealistic, humans must resort
to immortalizing themselves by means of creation. Whether that be by leaving a piece of
themselves behind in the form of children or a work of art, such as a book or painting. It is that
drive for eternal happiness that Socrates believes love to be. While Socrates speech mostly
avoided romantic love, Aristophanes theory primarily focused on it. From Aristophanes viewpoint,
romantic love is what one would feel toward the person who is their other half . In today s society,
many people believe that romantic love can be

2012 NFL Team Analysis
We are officially through two weeks of the 2016 NFL regular season and we are beginning to
find out which teams are good and not so good. As we head into Week 3, this is a pivotal time
for some teams, who are still winless on the season. Majority of these teams have played well one
week and looked bad the next, while others have lost by less than a less than a touchdown.
With that being, here are five teams that can t afford to lose in Week 3:
1. Buffalo Bills: The Bills begin this list as they are in trouble. Currently, they are 0 2 after going
down to their division rival New York Jets 37 31. Unlike, the first week of the season, the Bills

4. Indianapolis Colts: The Colts are not a very good football team this season and it s showing on
both sides of the ball. The defense is hurting and giving up a ridiculous 36.5 points per game,

While on offense, quarterback Andrew Luck is doing everything in his power to will the team to
victory with a lack of a running game. Then to make matters worse, Indianapolis lost wide receiver
Donte Moncrief for 4 6 weeks with a fractured scapula.
With all those factors, it is not looking good for Indianapolis. However, they have a favorable
matchup this week against the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers are coming off a big win against
the Jacksonville Jaguars but lost running back Danny Woodhead to a torn ACL. With no Woodhead
or Keenan Allen, the Colts defense should not have any trouble in slowly down a Chargers offense

Essay On Permian Mass Extinction
The Permian mass extinction, that struck about 250 million years ago, caused a mass extinction
of reef and shallow water communities. Groups that lived on the seafloor and filtered organic
material from the water for nourishment suffered the greatest extinction. Those include corals,
shelled in vertebrates, and a variety of sea lilies. Others marine groups includes trilobites,
zooplankton and snails. Even though these species died in the water, living organisms on land
were not much better off. Terrestrial vertebrates and insects both experienced a big loss in each of
their groups. Also suffering a big loss was the insect family due to the lack of plant life and food.
Seventy Eight percent of reptiles became extinct and sixty seven percent of the amphibian family
became extinct during this time period.
The warming of the Earth s climate, the changes of waves in the oceans and the increased amount
of carbon dioxide from volcanic activity and Siberian traps caused this mass extinction. Oxygen on

Descriptive Essay About The Woods
The Woods There s been stories floating around regarding the forest lining the edge of town. Some
folk around here think that there s animals and creatures beyond imagination past the treeline,
others think that s a bunch of bologna. One night, about twenty years ago, a young boy ran away
from home and fled to the forest. Forty eight hours later the police declare him missing, and for
three weeks police, detectives, and civilian volunteers were searching for the boy. And so the weeks
turned into months, and months turned into years, but the little boy never came home. Dude, what
are you doing? Zach yelped, scurrying after his friend, tripping on branches. Earlier that evening,
Carson, Zach, and a few other of their friends were hanging out at the annual Halloween bonfire.
They were heading home when one of the boys decided they should take a shortcut, taking an
alleyway behind the grocery store that cuts to a bumpy run down street littered with trash and
cracks. Coincidentally, this winding road cuts a corner through the forest, emerging on the other
side of town. Wandering along the pothole laden street, the wind starts howling, and the group hears
a strange noise from amongst the trees, snapping branches and crunching leaves. Stopping, the boys
peer in every direction, but notice nothing except the trees in the pale moonlight. Did you hear that?

Growing up I was led to believe that when you die it will be of old age, in a hospital bed with

you have been waiting and wanting to say. Even if they aren t there it is important to let them

something you will have to do. Many people believe that you should not make this contact to
your family, you should just leave them alone. I think different. This is the last time they will
ever hear your voice or read your message. This small act reflects who you are and is a part of
you that will stay with those people forever. For those people that were tragically lost in the twin

Essay about Bartelby the Scrivener
Bartelby the Scrivener Herman Melville, an American novelist and major literary figure
explored psychological themes in many of his works. Through his writing, Melville recreated a
part of life that existed then, and is prevalent in our society today. Low self esteem along with
self perception and how others perceive us can be a factor leading to depression. Depression, if left
untreated can become so severe that it is possible to cause someone to lose the will to live. I will
clarify this illnessand it s ill effects in the story Bartleby the Scrivener , by Herman Melville.

Bartleby s existence as we were led to believe seemed like a death in life existence. Bartleby was
a man incapable of experiencing emotions and isolated himself from his environment. A lofty
brick wall, black by age and everlasting shade. A lot of Bartleby time was spent staring outside
at the blank wall, which seemed to be a reflection of the isolation and loneliness in his own life.
As time passed Bartleby verbally stated when asked to comply with his work responsibilities I
prefer not to. His protest for the work was very direct and yet very passive. Bartleby seems to
have a distinctive, dysfunctional personality. But he wrote on silently, palely, mechanically . This
passage shows the debilitating effects of such a depressed life. I prefer not to seemed to be the
only verbal communication he was capable of at the present time. Although he appeared to be
referring to his work subconsciously his true feelings for death were stated, as I prefer not to.
As the story continues it becomes obvious that Bartleby could not be saved from himself, nor did
he want help from anyone else. Bartleby seemed to put up a brick wall between him and the
world. He would not allow anyone into his self destructive deteriorating world. Strangely huddled
at the base of the wall, his knees drawn up, and lying on his sides, his head touching the cold stone,
I saw the wasted Bartleby. From this excerpt, we

Summary Of Against The Odds, And Against The Common Good...
In her essay Against the Odds, and Against the Common Good, Gloria Jimenez attempts to
dismantle the appeal of state run lotteries. First, she takes advantage of conversational writing to
convey the reader s ethics by exploring syntactical techniques and using examples of clever
gambling advertisements. These components strengthen her argumenton the surface by creatively
appealing to emotionand reason. Jimenez unfortunately fails to create a convincing argument by
implementing several improper grammar techniques and a couple of fallacies, weakening the
credibility of her argument. Gloria Jimenez essay, while emotionally appealing, is incapable of
withstanding the criticism produced and created by a lack of grammatical expertise and writing
practices. In her essay Against the Odds, and Against the Common Good, Gloria Jimenez asserts
that states should not promote and advertize gambling. Jimenez lists many clever lotteryslogans that
are deceivingly interpreted. She also argues that these slogans advertise the advantages of gambling
and playing the lottery because the money supposedly goes to things such as education and social
service. Jimenez explains some arguments in favor of state run lotteries, such as free participation
and the creation of jobs, but argues that they are not relevant to the problem. She briefly touches on
a statistic claiming that low income individuals are more likely to spend money on lottery tickets

Animal Cruelty And Its Effects On Society
For years, animals have been a form of entertainment whether it has been in movies, shows,
circuses, or for a romantic night out. Most families love this type of entertainment because it is
kid friendly and believe it is cool to watch animals do all kinds of tricks. But do they ever wonder
what really goes on behind closed doors? Entertainment animals have had to endure a lot of pain,
depression, and torture in the process; aside from that not all of them have that happy ending. No
one enjoys pain, this includes humans and animals, and so no one should have be force to go
through it. Each year hundreds of animals die from animal cruelty. Animals used for entertainment
have to endure pain in various ways this can be anything from being whipped to being
electrocuted. Animals have no way of saying STOP, stop hurting me all they can do is make noise
but most handlers choose to ignore the cries or enjoy the sound of it. While one is out trying to
impress their significant other, they get on a carriagebecause they think it is romantic, but do they

Relationship Between Britain And The Colonies
Though both are independent nations, the United Kingdom and the United States now share a close
bond, and have even been allies during WWI and WWII in the 20th century. But when the colonies
of the United States were under British rule, the relations between the Colonies and Britain were
not so friendly. The views on government and taxation between the two became radically different
and created a large disagreement between the American Patriots and those loyal to Britain. Cracks
began to form in the relationship between Britain and the Colonies, and the differences between the
two would inevitably result in the American Revolution. Between 1754 and 1763, Britain and
French were involved in the French and Indian War, which was a territorial dispute between
Britain and France. With the help of the British American colonists, Britain was able to maintain
and increase its borders in America, but the funds needed to support the war caused Britain to go
into debt ( French and Indian War/Seven Years War 1754 1763 1). Not willing to tax its own
citizens any further, Britain decided to tax the American colonies more in order to generate
revenue. Before the war, American colonists were paying a fraction of the taxes than those living
in Britain, and even after the imposed taxes, the average American would pay less taxes than the
average Englishman ( British Acts on Colonial America 1).

Cultural Conflicts In Nicaragua
Introduction While China, North Korea, Russia, Iran, and immigration have dominated
international news, clashes between the government and protesters have resulted in 145 dead and
thousands injured (Agence France Presse, 2018, para. 5) during the bloodiest disturbance in
Nicaragua since the 1980 s (Associated Press, 2018, para. 11). A missionary evacuated from the
region in May succinctly expressed the frustrations of many over the lack of impetus of other
nations to condemn the rampant violence and human rights violations that have become common
place in this conflict (R. Caiazzo, personal communication, June 5, 2018). Analysis Addressing
cultural conflicts begins by mastering the story behind the problem (Patterson, Grenny, Maxfield,
McMillan, Switzler, 2013). Hauk and Mueller (2015) suggest three variables common to such
stories; the cultural leaders, the cultural perspectives, and the incentives that compel each group to
engage or disengage in negotiation. Understanding these components offers insights to open
potential doors to negotiate an acceptable resolution. Cultural Leaders The first step in moving
cultural conflicts toward productive negotiation is identifying leaders; influential individuals which

Book Report on Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysic of Morals by Kant
Kant states (38,) act as if the maxim of thy action were to become by thy will a universal law of
nature . This categorical imperative forms the basis of his book, Fundamental Principles of the
Metaphysics of Morals. Though at times his writing is confusing Kant lays out his logic as to what
a categorical imperative is. Kant divides the book into three sections. The first explains the
transition from everyday moral beliefs to the philosophy of those morals. The transition from
popular moral philosophy to the metaphysics of morals is explained in Section II. Kant ends the

Kant provides two reasons to study the metaphysics of morals. First, to understand a priori
morals we must investigate their course. Second, morals may be corrupted if we fail to
understand and estimate them correctly. Section 1 begins with the idea that the only thing
absolutely good is a good will (11). According to Kant acts of courage and perseverance can be
negative if a dubious idea is driving them. Kant uses Duty as an example of good will but
provides three qualifications. For an action to have moral worth it must be done from duty. He
is careful to distinguish three forms of duty; from duty , conforming to duty and as duty
requires (15). A morally good action is not based on anything or done out of want for any object
or inclination. It is performed simply because it is. For example, a man rescues a cat from a tree
because he knows there is a reward offered. The man performs the act for a monetary purpose.
An act driven by any possible reaction can not be based on good will . Good will is good in
itself (12). In Section II Kant provides an in depth explanation of what a categorical imperative
is. He first defines an imperative as a command that is obligatory for a will (30). In other words it
is something we ought to do. He goes on to differentiate the two kinds of imperatives, hypothetical
and imperative. An action based on a hypothetical imperative is done for the result while a

Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman Essay
Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman
In the book Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman, the central thesis that he tries to point out is
that emotional intelligence may be more important than I.Q. in determining a person s well being
and success in life. At first I didn t know what Goleman was talking about when he said emotional
intelligence, but after reading the book I have to say that I agree completely with Goleman. One
reason for my acceptance of Goleman s theory is that academic intelligence has little to do with
emotional life. To me, emotions can be just as intelligent as your I.Q. In this essay I hope to
provide sufficient evidence to show why I agree with Goleman s thesis on emotional intelligence.

Goleman states, Emotional aptitude is a meta ability, determining how well we can use whatever
other skills we have, including raw intellect. People that have high emotional intelligence are more
likely to be satisfied and effective in their lives. Others who have trouble with this cannot manage
themselves so their ability for successful work and clear thought are altered.
In contrast to this, you can say that I.Q. is better than emotional intelligence. Having a high I.Q.
does offer a lot of benefits. Goleman states that people with a high I.Q. are ambitious, productive,
and uneasy with sexual and sensual experience. That high I.Q. people are the caricature of the
intellectual, adept in the realm of mind but inept in the personal world. And all of this is just for
the men. Goleman states, The profiles differ slightly for men and women. High I.Q. women have
intellectual confidence, are fluent in expressing their thoughts and have a wide range of intellectual
and aesthetic interests. Goleman also does point out that these are extremes and that everyone
mixes I.Q. and emotional intelligence in varying degrees. But this does give us an instructive look
at what each of these dimensions adds to a person s qualities.
In the book, Emotional Intelligence, Goleman talks about two psychologists (Sternberg and
Salovey) who have taken a wider view on intelligence and give terms of what they think it takes to
lead a successful life. They mention five

Magazine s food writer, Mark Bittman also shares views with Pollan. In fact, Bittman has even
written a cookbook on how to eat better. While most are more wholesome there are still few
recipes that are high in fat. One of his recipes consists of corn being sautГ©ed in bacon fat and then
topped with bacon (Freedman).
Freedman argues that technology would help revolutionize the American diet. He supports this with
his experiences to different restaurants and how good the food was, how much it cost him, and
then whether or not the food itself is actually good for the body. His experiences allows the reader
to connect with Freedman, by showing that he also struggles with the never ending fight to eat

Examples Of Reversal In Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston
Aristotle defines reversal in a tragedy as, The change of fortune in the action of the play to the
opposite state of affairs; just as has been said; and this change, we argue, should be in accordance
with probability and necessity (Aristotle 19). In Zora Neale Hurston s Sweat, Delia, the wife, is
abused by her husband throughout the story. Although she is oppressed by Sykes, her Husband,
Delia stands up for herself and contests his power. According to Aristotle s definition of reversals,
power constantly moves back and forth between Sykes and Delia throughout the story. Delia and
Sykes have been married for over fifteen years, yet two months after their marriageSykes started
abusing her. That being said, it wasn t always like that; Sykes at one point was afraid that Delia
was going to leave him. Sykes, before he was married, was described by the townspeople as, He
useter eat some mighty big hunks uh humble pie tuh git dat lil oman he got. She wuz pritty ez a
speckled pup! Dat wuz fifteen yeahs ago . He useter be so skeered uh losin huh, she could make
him do some parts of a husband s duty. Dey never wuz de same in de mind (Hurston 4).
Sykes fifteen years ago was a completely different man than he was now. Power was reversed
back then, like the townspeople said, he used to be so scared of her leaving, she could make him
do parts of a husbands duty. Comparing that to his current complex, she can t even make him hold
a door for her now. He harasses her constantly,

Fluoride Ions And Its Effect On Health And Excess...
Introduction
Fluoride is one of the important heavy metal present in water and waste water. Fluoride ions in
water exhibits unique properties, as itsoptimum dosein drinking water is advantageous to health

A Call to Sacrifice
Julia Alvarez s In the Time of the Butterflies, fictionalizes the real life story of the four Mirabal
sisters: Patria, Maria Teresa, Minerva, and DedГ©. Dominican dictator, Trujillo, has Patria,
Minerva, and Maria Teresa killed for their participation in the revolution. Though not all of the
sisters gave their life, each of them sacrificed a great deal. Throughout the novel, all four sisters
heard the call to motherhood. This call to motherhood is not the only call heard by the Mirabal
sisters, however, along with this call to motherhood, each sister is also called to sacrifice. For each
sister, this call to sacrifice is answered in a different way.
Early in her life, DedГ© s father predicts that she will be a survivor: She ll bury us all, her father

Similarities And Differences Between Tikki Movie And Movie
Rikki Tikki Tavi
This story resembles bravery in a little mongos named Rikki Tikki Tavi. A mongos who saves a
family and gets something in return. He protects this family with his life and always thinks of
others first. Rikki is a fighting, protecting, and loving mongos who has killed many of snakes
protecting this little boy named Teddy, and his family. In the story and movie there are many of
similarities and differences, to do with the plot, setting, and characters, comparing the book and the
movie Rikki Tikki Tavi.
Rikki was found by a river soaking wet by Teddy, a boy who wanted to have a funeral for him,
and his family. In both the story and movie he was describe cold and wet; also he was found in
the dirt. The family decided to take him home to warm him up and get him something to eat.
During the movie the big man, Teddy s dad, picked Rikki up at the river holding him with his
nose at the man s finger tips, and Rikki s tail passed his wrist. While in the story it is stated the
big man picked him up between finger and thumb. ( Kipling pg.143) there is a difference between
the story and the movie. While the movie isn t an exact replica there still are a lot of similarities.
When the family decided to bring Rikki Tikki in to dry the movie and story have a difference.
The story said that They wrapped him in cotton, and warmed him over a little fire. (Kipling 143).
Although the movie was close it showed Rikki in the cotton but he wasn t placed over a small fire.
Similarities are plentiful in the movie, but there are some differences to look up to.
Teddy and his family had Rikki for quite some time, and he was curious around the house. In the
movie right before bed Teddy was taking a bath Rikki was climbing on the side of it and fell into
the tub. This is a similarity of both the story and the movie. One difference is written in the story
that Rikki nearly drowned himself in the bathtub, put his nose into ink on a writing table, and
burnt it on the end of the big man s cigar. (Kipling 144). The movie didn t show any of this it
hadn t been shown. One night when the cobra couple nag and nagaina were talking outside of the
house they were planning on killing the family so Rikki would go away and leave the

Schenck V. United States (1919)
Schenck vs. United States is a Supreme Court Case from 1919, in which Charles T. Schenck
was charged and convicted of being in violation of the Espionage Act. The Espionage Act,
passed in 1917, was the effort of Congress and President Woodrow Wilson, to protect national
security during World War I. At the start of the war, there was a strong sense of national pride to
fight, however, groups who opposed the war still remained. According to (Belknap, Schenck vs.
US), the Espionage Act addressed the issue of national security through the press. It became
illegal to falsify reports to aid an enemy, rebel within the armed forces, and obstruct military
recruitment. The following year the Sedition Acts of 1918 were passed, which made it illegal
during wartime to speak of, print, or write in the context of disloyal or abusive language to the

Difference Between Human Resources Management And Payroll...
Human Resources Management and Payroll Cycle The Human Resources Management (HRM)
and the Payroll Cycle, which represent two connected but autonomous subsystems, are one of the
five core transaction cycles inherent in every organisation. According to Romney and Steinbart
(2015) they can be defined as a recurring set of business activities and related data processing
operations associated with effectively managing the employee workforce (p.443). In this process
the HRM system conducts all tasks which can be grouped into recruiting, training, job assignment,
performance evaluation and discharge of employees. The major activities of the payroll system
concern compensation as well as allocation of personnel cost to products and departments. Since
both procedures require a different kind of knowledge and skills, the associated duties are often
segregated so that the HR department manages the HRM part whereas the Controlling is
responsible for the payroll system (Romney Steinbart, 2015). The whole construct is illustrated in

Although they contribute to the implementation of an effective and reliable internal control system,
both frameworks are subject to the same general limitations. First of all, they are not able to
eliminate every risk, but rather to ensure a reasonable assurance and control over the substantial
threats (Romney Steinbart, 2015). The reason for this is that not all events are under direct control
of the company. Moreover, there is always the pitfall of human mistakes and flawed decision
making, especially as the application of the frameworks requires some professional judgement.
Lastly, the resources of every organisation are limited and therefore cost benefit considerations
might affect the structure of the internal control system as well. (COSO,

Male Dominance over Female characters in John Harwood s novel, The Asylum
Today s society perceives women to be stronger and dominant individuals in comparison to men,
although, in reality, there are numerous circumstances in which men exhibit more power and
control over the important decisions in women s lives. In his novel, The Asylum, John Harwood
portrays the ways in which men exert power over women through the relationships between Rosina
and her father as well as Dr. Straker and Georgina. Through the characters of Rosina and Georgina,
Harwood depicts that women face many insecurities which ultimately causes the relationships ...

Rather than admitting her true feelings, Rosina gives her consent for the alliance in order to please
her father due to her fear of him, exemplifying that her diffident personality in the novel leads to
the tenuous bonds between them both. Furthermore, Rosina s father s obedience leads him to
become very stern towards Rosina s freedom as Your [Rosina s] duty is to obey me, and you will
learn to like him [Mr. Bradstone] because I wish it... Until then, as I say, you are to remain
outdoors: I have given orders to ensure that you do. Disobey me in this, and you will be confined
to your room (135 136). Thomas s ascendancy over his daughter s decisions is evident as he is
very strict and intimidating, Rosina must obey commands in order to live with him or else there are
bound to be dire consequences. Instead of fighting for her rights and freedom, Rosina feebly agrees
to her father s instructions, thus reinforcing the one sided relationship between both father and
daughter.
Moving on, Georgina and Dr. Straker s bond also begins to diminish as Dr. Straker s dominance
over Georgina s confinement at Tregannon Asylum eventually leads to the loss of control over her
decisions. First and foremost, at the asylum, Georgina wakes up to find her

Women In A Tree Grows In Brooklyn
Women are very strong and passionate. As Beyonce once said, Who run the world? Girls! Her
statement is truer today, women drive the foundation of economics, business, government, etc. In
the early 1900 s, women were sent to the kitchen and the washrooms to slave over the male
figurehead. Betty Smith used A Tree Grows in Brooklyn to beat down the sexual stereotypes of
the time. The male leads in the novel were portrayed upon as weak and ignorant. Francie, Katie,
and Sissy were all forceful characters that steered the direction of the book. Throughout our
reading of Books One, Two and Three of the novel, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, the author, Betty

Difference Between Urban And Rural Life
COMPARISON OF RURAL AND URBAN WAY OF LIFE
Introduction:
There are two different ways of life in our society. Rural and urban society. Both ways of life are
opposite to each other. Rural society is a conservative society but urban society is an advanced
society. People living in backward areas make rural society and people living in advanced areas
make urban society.
RURAL SOCIETY:
Rural society is under developed and conservative society and different from urban society due to
many reasons:
EDUCATION:
People are not educated in rural areas. They are not aware about the importance of education in
life. They do not afford education for their children. Most of the people in rural areas are poor.
There are no education centers, colleges and authorized universities in rural areas. Everyone is

how to sit and behave. They try to learn manners by copying their fellows. People are always in
competition in urban society and this is increasing day by day.
STRUCTURE OF SOCIETY:
Urban society is highly structured society. People are aware in urban society. Rules and
responsibilities are defined. Urban society is a fast pace of life. People know their rights, needs
and their problems. It is a developed society. People are social. They do not have time to sit

The Effect Of Temperature On The Rate Of Carbon Dioxide...
The purpose of the experiment is to test the effect of five different temperatures on the rate of
carbon dioxide production in yeast. So, to test this method five fermentation tubes were filled with
glucose and yeast mixture, after that they were placed in water to see which one yielded the most
carbon dioxide. The results that were produced concluded that yeastcan produce carbon dioxide
more efficiently with a temperate of approximately 45 degrees Celsius. The carbon dioxide
production was tracked in the fermentation of yeast. Carbon dioxide production was also different
in different temperatures.
1.Introduction
Temperature changes have a great and intense effect on living things. It s indicated through research
that yeast makes more carbon dioxide when in higher temperature rather than the lower
temperature. Although, it makes more carbon dioxide in high temperature it is possible that the
temperature would be so hot that it will end up destroying the yeast cells which will cause it to
have less carbon dioxide. The reason for this is because of the rate of chemical reactions increasing
along with increasing temperature.
When one refers to the temperature of a system, it is described as the measure of the average
kinetic energy of the particles in a sample of matter. Increases in the temperature of a system results
from increases in the kinetic energy of the system. The higher the temperature, the more energy
atoms have, causing them to move more rapidly. In the same

sprawling; leading to the deaths of her oldest sisters Maria and Elizabeth. The BrontГ« s
experienced a sorrowful life, especially Emily, having to watch her family suffer at such a young
age. Spending the majority of her time with her siblings, they obtained a bond over literature and
writing. They created their own imaginary kingdom called Angria and gave it its own history and

Educators Perceptions Of Debriefing
Educators Perceptions of Debriefing While developing and completing a simulation experience for
students is an significant role for educators, knowing how to debrief students following a simulation
has been deemed as equal if not more important because the majority of learning occurs during this
time period (Mariani, et al., 2013). Educators have identified varying methods of debriefing, but
most of them have central themes. Most methods include some form of critique, correction,
evaluation and open discussion (Neill Wotton, 2011). It is common knowledgeamong nurse
educators that the success of debriefing depends on the facilitator and their mastery of debriefing
skills. With proper training, educators learn the key requirements... Show more content on

The educators that facilitate debriefing are the ones who are most skilled in determining what
works and does not work within debriefing. Most educators will agree that when it is time to
debrief following HFS, there is an insufficient amount of time to assess if the students will
potentially transfer the information learned in the simulation to their respective clinical rotations
(Mariani, Cantrell Meakim, 2014). Due to the fact that debriefing is such an essential activity to
engage students in active learning and developing decision making skills, educators recognize the
importance of becoming familiar with best practice for debriefing and mastering this competency.
Implications
The utilization of HFS in nursing simulation is widely supported by several nursing governing
bodies, leaders in nursing education and nursing education literature. Implications for nurse
education relate to educators recognizing HFS as an effective student centered learning and
teaching strategy. By incorporating HFS into nursing curriculum, educators give students ample
opportunities to develop and practice skills as well as using their prior knowledge in a safe
environment without

  • 2. My Rifle Research Paper I have got very many gifts and a bunch of unique, special gifts. This unreal item was a .308 caliber rifle. It was such an outrage of excitement as my parents were giving it to me. Three aspects of the gun stood out to me it had a great design to it, the size of the caliber, and the size of the gun itself. The design was an option of my choice, I had always wanted a rifle like this one. My rifle, in my opinion, has one of the most distinctive designs for a rifle. Starting at the stock of the gun, it was sleek, natural camouflage , synthetic stock. As you go up the gun, you arrive at the metal parts, and this matte finish of black really matched the stock, which gave it my attention as I focused on it at first glance. The barrel, at the peak of the gun adjacent to the opening system, was thick, so if I was to shoot multiple times in a row the barrel wouldn t warp after constant heating through the violent explosion of the cartridge as the bullets races through the end of the barrel. On the other hand, the bullet measurements were just as important. At the time I was given the gun, I wasn t very old or strong. If I was too have received this rifle in any caliber bigger than .308 I wouldn t have been able to shoot it. On the other side, the deer I was to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As I mentioned before, I was not a strong kid, for if the gun was to heavy for me, I wouldn t have had the chance to shoot it till recently. As for what came with moderately strong, I wasn t very tall, therefore meaning I couldn t have a long gun or I couldn t reach the trigger to pull it as I was hunting. The size of the gun was probably the most important thing to me because I hadn t ever had a gun before this one that would fit me as perfectly as the one I have described here does. Though it couldn t be the rifle it is if its vital aspects weren t all put ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Santa Marta Settlement Of A Farm Owned By Francisco Jose... Minoja (2012) found that until 1824, the area now occupied by Santa Marta settlement is part of a farm owned by Francisco Jose Leite, Baron of Vassouras. In 1824 the land then passed to a second owner of the farm to the Baron of Macaubas. In 1920 began the growth of the nearby suburb of Copacabana and Botafogo, causing large amounts of development and thus increasing the need for workers. On Santa Marta hill, due to the construction of Santo Inacio church and college, many people migrated for the economic opportunities offered by the project and for the land in which to erect houses offered by the priests. This project lasted almost 30 years. The priest permitted the workers to erect their houses on Santa Marta hill, marking the beginning of this settlement. The first dwellings were built on the top section of the hill surrounded by the atlantic forest, one of the first being the chapel built by Jesuit priests consecrated to Santa Marta, in which the settlement is named after (Minoja, 2012, pg41). Between 1930 1940 many people migrated from other areas of Brazil, as a result over time the settlement densified and grew downwards towards the city. In 1940 approximately 31% of Brazil s population was living in urban areas and the first census was conducted of 14 favelas in Rio de Janeiro (Minoja, 2012). Santa Marta was one of the first favelas in Rio de Janeiro to experience intervention from the two complementary State led programs aforementioned; the Rio Cidade Program or ... The color from the candies dissolved into the water and disappeared from half of each of the candies. d. The colors began to fade and dissolve from the strip of paper. Using the salt solution, the only colors visible were yellow, orange, green and red. These colors were mixed, meaning there s more of a lime and turquoise within the colors. e. The dots also became more faded as the experiment went under way. Discussion Solution 1. The 1% saltwater solution was easy to create, however there was a greater amount of this solution than the alcohol. • 6. Important Aspects Of A Functioning Classroom Through this past semester, we have heavily discussed the important aspects of a functioning classroom, from different theorists to helpful teaching techniques. We ve debated what it means to be a great teacher. There are quite a few flaws in our education system today, but I believe most of the theories we discussed could be accorporated much more in the classroom. John Dewey, Friedrich Froebel, Maria Montessori, and Lev Vygotsky all understood the way children think and the importance of imaginative play. They also understood that children need to be active in nature. Also, we have discussed different forms of learning, such as project based learning, and outdoor classrooms. In my opinion, the educationsystem should have minor changes that benefit the students more. Despite the various flaws, schools are extremely important for students especially on a social stand point. They can be around children their own age and interact in various scenarios. Socializing is important for children of all ages, it helps them develop listening skills, communication skills, how to share, how to work in groups, and compromise. Every interaction a child has is a learning experience. They learn what is right or wrong and how to communicate appropriately, social interaction plays a key role in cognitive development. Lev Vygotsky was a cognitive theorist who believed social interaction and imaginative play were critical in child development. Imaginative play is actually a complex process ... • 7. Social, Political And Economic Equality Of The Sexes Feminist: the person who believes in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes. , those are the words used to define a feminist by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. The quote was later sampled by popular music artist Beyonce in her song, Flawless , from her self titled album. This quote and a performance of the song later caused an unforeseen backlash by some feminist. Pandemonium ensued as a result of Beyonce s actions. Feminist debated about who can and cannot call themselves a feminist. Feminist argued Beyonce, her music, and dancing supported a misogynistic culture. They falter by proclaiming one brand of feminism is better than the other. The overall message you can t be too risquГ©, or you cannot be feminist. Recently, there has been a tsunami of scrutiny thrown at Columbia recording artist, Beyonce, who performed at the nationally televised Video Music Awards, commonly referred to as the VMAs. While performing, Beyonce stood on stage with her fist clinched and the word Feminist behind her. She was quickly praised, but at the same time scolded. Beyonce was scolded for having sexually suggestive lyrics, provocative dancing, and her lifestyle. Lyrics like Bow down bitches! , that were seen as derogatory to women. She was seen as sexually provocative while dancing on poles, and twerking on stage. Beyonce was also scolded for being rich, and selling a consumerist lifestyle other could not afford. • 8. The Development of Video Games In society s current era of technological advancement, video games have gone a long way since they were first created. Video games in the twenty first century are no longer just toys or junk in the lifestyles of the youth. They have become innovative inventions that not only entertain its users, but also help aid the people in both the academic field and in jobs. The influences that video games bring about in the culture of the youth today are, in fact, not the negative influences that most people think. Video games are actually this generation s new medium for educating the youth. The information they learn are also mostly positive and useful things that they may apply in their future lives (Prensky 4). In a generation that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Atari s comeback came with its console called the Video Computer System which was like a computer with an eight bit processor. (Kent 100). Then in 1982, the VCS version of Atari s Pac Man was released and was also one of the most anticipated video game cartridges of all time. Atari even manufactured twelve million Pac Man cartridges based on the demand of its consumers (Kent 227). By the end of 1982, Atari had come up with a new console called the Atari 5200. Many reviewers were impressed with the 5200 and considered it as a huge improvement over the past console Atari created. The Atari 5200 was praised for its high resolution color graphics, special effects, and powerful system (Kent 230). It was also in the period of the 80s that Nintendo released its first game in the United States called Radarscope, which did not sell well despite its positive standing in Japan. Three thousand copies of Radarscope were shipped to the U.S. and because it did not appeal to American audiences, Nintendo only sold one thousand units (Kent 156). • 9. The Following Includes Course Language, Viewer Discretion... WARNING: The following includes course language, viewer discretion is advised Everyday from the moment we wake up, we live our lives caring what other people think of us. We accept the status quo for what it is because everyone around us does. We tip toe our way through life by doing things in order to please others, not because it s what we believe in. Eventually our actions, appearances, and lives become molded by how we think other people perceive us. Wow I can t wear this dress people are going to think I m fat. I can t talk to so and so because everyone would get mad at me. If I did this what would my friends think of me, what would they say? Ahhh just saying those sentences gives me a headache. It is hard enough taking care of yourself let alone trying to impress every other person in this world. Having to live up to society and other peoples ideals of how you should be or how you should do things, its dreadful. Now, while not giving a fuck may seem simple on the surface, its a whole new can of beans in real life. What I m trying to say is that we are all going to struggle with these things on a day to day basis, we can t just read something like this and tell ourselves, TODAY is the day I will stop giving a fuck ...don t we wish it were that easy. The truth is sometimes we give a fuck about to many things in situations where the fucks do not deserve to be given. • 10. Noises Off Play Review Last month, I had the privilege of attending the play Noises Off, a British splat stick comedy set during the eighties. I had no prior information going into this performance, besides that it involved a lot of door slamming and people prancing in their underwear. So, I knew that the play was going to be very goofy and the characters hard headed. However, I had no expectations of how I would be feel attending the play. I was not expecting to feel self conscious, agitated, and exhausted from that experience. In all honesty, I did not care about my appearance when I attended Noises Off. Even though I knew it it was a professional company that produce the play, I still felt that it was a casual setting. So, I was surprised to find other patrons dressed to the nines. Compared to them in their dresses and pressed slacks, I stuck out like a sore thumb with my tank top and yoga pants. On top of that, I wore my hair out in its natural state which is a giant from. Normally, this would not have bothered me as much as it did, but this man s laughter was obnoxious. It was loud and resembled the sound dolphins make to communicate with one another. In the beginning, I found it difficult to lose myself in the performance when I heard his laughter. At one point, I debated on leaving the play all together since I found it hard to enjoy it. However, I came to my senses and realize that I was being just as obnoxious as his laugh. It is not his fault that his laugh reaches that level of absurdity. I am glad that he enjoyed the play as much as he did and I hope he never feels pressure to stifle his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of your friends say that free weights are the only way to go, while others only use the machines. So, which should you choose? Free weights are usually preferred over machines by most people and (professionals or skilled people). The use of free weights may allow for the gaining of more muscle mass and strength than that of resistance machines. She explains how the app generation is struggling to self identify and successfully leverage the Internet to be app enabled. Youth s app dependency is a result of access to digital technology and social media at an early age, and is preventing youth from properly self identifying themselves. This, in turn, is affecting how they build relationships and how they think creatively. The online community our group has decided to look into is the PCMasterRace subreddit. • 14. Physical Discipline And Child Behavior Problems Essay Topic/ Rationale/ Hypothesis The topic in the article Physical Discipline and Child Behavior Problems: A study of Ethnic Group Differences by Jodi Polaha, Robert E. Larzelere, Steven K. Sharpio and Gregory S. Petit is researching the relation between parental discipline and how it relates to the child s behavior expression problems within different ethnic groups. They re addressing how physical discipline in different ethnic groups can affect children s way of expressing themselves in distinct ways. Previous research shows when a parent s discipline is abusive then it often results in aggressive behavior from the child (Cicchetti, Lynch, Shonk, Manly, 1992; Dodge, Bates Pettit, 1990; Strassberg, Dodge, Pettit, 1994). Although, if the discipline is not abusive then the child is less likely to be aggressive (Gershoff, 2002; Strassberg, Dodge, Bates, Pettit, 1992). In another study it was found that different ethnic groups react differently to discipline between African American children and European American children (Baumrind,1972; Lamborn, Dornbusch, Steinberg,1996). Five years after the study was conducted it had been reported that European American children got into more fights than the African American children (Gunnoe Mariner, 1997). • 15. The Man In The Dead Machine Summary In the poem The Man in the Dead Machine, Donald Hall uses vivid imagery and alternative scenarios to emphasize the sheer overwhelming specter of death that loomed over those serving in the greatest conflict known to man. The hook that Hall uses to initially provoke the readers interest is the mentioning of the Grumman Hellcat, a fighter plane used by Americans in World War II. Specifying the model of the fighter plane allows the reader to be knowledgeable about the setting of the poem. The meaning of this poem focuses on the destructivity wartime causes on the life of those in service. The main focal point Hall emphasizes throughout his poem is the uncertainty of life and death. However, other important targets of this poem are suicide... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout this poem there are multiple ways Hall connects the poem to its core meaning. Located within the title, the word dead is used to describe the machine. Being dead is the ultimate end of a life and that uncertainty of death sparks fear among many people. The inclusion of this certain word is used to set the tone of the poem as dark and gloomy and obtain the readers interest. Another method used by Hall to convey the theme of death was through imagery. The entire second stanza is a description of the pilot s skeleton strapped within the crashed plane. Having such a graphic image portrayed, Hall is able to essentially shock his reader with the gruesomeness that death produces. One of the last things the reader may decipher from this poem is that life, just like war, is a trap. Within the third stanza, the pilot is said to be taking a train to work and is held/ by the firm webbing of the train. The webbing infers that the pilot, although not trapped in his plane, is trapped in the roles put forth by society. Throughout Halls poem, many different ideas and topics can be deduced but the uncertainty of life and death stands out as the main focal point. To emphasize the fragileness of life and death, Hall begins the poem with a story of death and in the last stanza switches his perspective to the possible life the pilot could have had if he survived. The final and continuous step is when other organisms attach to the biofilms. The formation of biofilms is not random but can be predicted by the process above. The biofilms become attached to surfaces because of gravity, or bacteria that have a negative charge. The bacteria senses and goes to the highest concentration of nutrients. Biofilms are hard to treat for many reasons. The main reason is because they are highly resistant to antibiotics. This is because the outer cells protect the inner cells from the antibiotic. Therefore, a long term treatment of antibiotics is required to help the biofilm related infection. Living in groups, give bacteria properties they didn t have when living alone. Due to this, he reflects his desire for people to oppose it and live with freedom in a poem that is centered around the theme of resistance in order to illustrate the importance of one expressing their individuality. He successfully incorporates his message into the poem through the words, actions, and characterization of his speaker. The speaker expresses their ideas by using each stanza to display different examples of the basic, normal aspects of society to emphasize that one should not be afraid to step out of the boundaries that trap them in the regular aspects of society, conveying the message that to oppose is to truly live with freedom. The first stanza begins with the speaker displaying opposition towards the normal side of society to convey their message. They address how when they were young, they opposed to school (2), and now, again (3), which indicates that they are adults in the present, they are opposed to work (4), establishing the speaker as a prideful, spirited person by displaying how in both their younger days and now, they are opposed to something that is considered a fundamental requirement for everyone in the world, which is school and work. • 21. Pursuit Of Love In Aristophanes s Theory Of Romantic Love Plato s Symposium gives us a look into how philosophers of the past viewed romantic love. Of all the speeches given in this work, Aristophanes had one of the most interesting theories. His theory referred to a myth in which at one point humans were very powerful. Because of these past humans strength, the god Zeus decided to cut them all in half, forming two beings. Now, we as separated humans are desperately trying to be reunited with our literal other half. With this myth in mind, Aristophanes theorizes that loveis that pursuit of wholeness with our significant other. Socrates takes a different approach when explaining his theory of love. Instead of focusing on love in the romantic and sexual sense, as the others did, Socrates explains how love is the pursuit of happiness. With that in mind the question is asked what, to humanity, would true happiness be perceived as? Socrates answer: Immortality. Since immortality is unrealistic, humans must resort to immortalizing themselves by means of creation. Whether that be by leaving a piece of themselves behind in the form of children or a work of art, such as a book or painting. It is that drive for eternal happiness that Socrates believes love to be. While Socrates speech mostly avoided romantic love, Aristophanes theory primarily focused on it. • 35. Cultural Conflicts In Nicaragua Introduction While China, North Korea, Russia, Iran, and immigration have dominated international news, clashes between the government and protesters have resulted in 145 dead and thousands injured (Agence France Presse, 2018, para. 5) during the bloodiest disturbance in Nicaragua since the 1980 s (Associated Press, 2018, para. 11). A missionary evacuated from the region in May succinctly expressed the frustrations of many over the lack of impetus of other nations to condemn the rampant violence and human rights violations that have become common place in this conflict (R. Caiazzo, personal communication, June 5, 2018). Analysis Addressing cultural conflicts begins by mastering the story behind the problem (Patterson, Grenny, Maxfield, McMillan, Switzler, 2013). Hauk and Mueller (2015) suggest three variables common to such stories; the cultural leaders, the cultural perspectives, and the incentives that compel each group to engage or disengage in negotiation. Understanding these components offers insights to open potential doors to negotiate an acceptable resolution. Book Report on Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysic of Morals by Kant Kant states (38,) act as if the maxim of thy action were to become by thy will a universal law of nature . This categorical imperative forms the basis of his book, Fundamental Principles of the Metaphysics of Morals. Though at times his writing is confusing Kant lays out his logic as to what a categorical imperative is. Kant divides the book into three sections. First, to understand a priori morals we must investigate their course. Second, morals may be corrupted if we fail to understand and estimate them correctly. Section 1 begins with the idea that the only thing absolutely good is a good will (11). According to Kant acts of courage and perseverance can be negative if a dubious idea is driving them. Kant uses Duty as an example of good will but provides three qualifications. For an action to have moral worth it must be done from duty. He is careful to distinguish three forms of duty; from duty , conforming to duty and as duty requires (15). A morally good action is not based on anything or done out of want for any object or inclination. It is performed simply because it is. For example, a man rescues a cat from a tree because he knows there is a reward offered. The man performs the act for a monetary purpose. An act driven by any possible reaction can not be based on good will . Good will is good in itself (12). In Section II Kant provides an in depth explanation of what a categorical imperative is. He first defines an imperative as a command that is obligatory for a will (30). In other words it is something we ought to do. He goes on to differentiate the two kinds of imperatives, hypothetical and imperative. An action based on a hypothetical imperative is done for the result while a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman Essay Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman In the book Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman, the central thesis that he tries to point out is that emotional intelligence may be more important than I.Q. in determining a person s well being and success in life. At first I didn t know what Goleman was talking about when he said emotional intelligence, but after reading the book I have to say that I agree completely with Goleman. One reason for my acceptance of Goleman s theory is that academic intelligence has little to do with emotional life. To me, emotions can be just as intelligent as your I.Q. In this essay I hope to provide sufficient evidence to show why I agree with Goleman s thesis on emotional intelligence. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Goleman states, Emotional aptitude is a meta ability, determining how well we can use whatever other skills we have, including raw intellect. People that have high emotional intelligence are more likely to be satisfied and effective in their lives. Others who have trouble with this cannot manage themselves so their ability for successful work and clear thought are altered. In contrast to this, you can say that I.Q. is better than emotional intelligence. Having a high I.Q. does offer a lot of benefits. Goleman states that people with a high I.Q. are ambitious, productive, and uneasy with sexual and sensual experience. That high I.Q. people are the caricature of the intellectual, adept in the realm of mind but inept in the personal world. And all of this is just for the men. Goleman states, The profiles differ slightly for men and women. High I.Q. women have intellectual confidence, are fluent in expressing their thoughts and have a wide range of intellectual and aesthetic interests. Goleman also does point out that these are extremes and that everyone mixes I.Q. and emotional intelligence in varying degrees. But this does give us an instructive look at what each of these dimensions adds to a person s qualities. Carbon dioxide production was also different in different temperatures. 1.Introduction Temperature changes have a great and intense effect on living things. It s indicated through research that yeast makes more carbon dioxide when in higher temperature rather than the lower temperature. Although, it makes more carbon dioxide in high temperature it is possible that the temperature would be so hot that it will end up destroying the yeast cells which will cause it to have less carbon dioxide. The reason for this is because of the rate of chemical reactions increasing along with increasing temperature. When one refers to the temperature of a system, it is described as the measure of the average kinetic energy of the particles in a sample of matter. Increases in the temperature of a system results from increases in the kinetic energy of the system. The higher the temperature, the more energy atoms have, causing them to move more rapidly. Bront¬¬¬¬¬¬¬ë can be recognized as an individual poet or as one of the three BrontГ« sisters. Life at the BrontГ« home was strange and unhappy due to many family deaths, including their mother s death by cancer. In their isolation and vast imagination, the remaining siblings made up fictional stories. One of BrontГ« s works that remains strong to this day is her book Wuthering Heights. Around the time of Emily s childhood, diseases were sprawling; leading to the deaths of her oldest sisters Maria and Elizabeth. The BrontГ« s experienced a sorrowful life, especially Emily, having to watch her family suffer at such a young age. Spending the majority of her time with her siblings, they obtained a bond over literature and writing. They created their own imaginary kingdom called Angria and gave it its own history and characters. Emily and her sister Anne withdrew from the writings of Angria and created an alternate history of Gondal, which went on until the 1840 s. The three sisters used pseudonyms when... • 55. Educators Perceptions Of Debriefing Educators Perceptions of Debriefing While developing and completing a simulation experience for students is an significant role for educators, knowing how to debrief students following a simulation has been deemed as equal if not more important because the majority of learning occurs during this time period (Mariani, et al., 2013). Educators have identified varying methods of debriefing, but most of them have central themes. Most methods include some form of critique, correction, evaluation and open discussion (Neill Wotton, 2011). It is common knowledgeamong nurse educators that the success of debriefing depends on the facilitator and their mastery of debriefing skills. With proper training, educators learn the key requirements... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The educators that facilitate debriefing are the ones who are most skilled in determining what works and does not work within debriefing. Most educators will agree that when it is time to debrief following HFS, there is an insufficient amount of time to assess if the students will potentially transfer the information learned in the simulation to their respective clinical rotations (Mariani, Cantrell Meakim, 2014). Due to the fact that debriefing is such an essential activity to engage students in active learning and developing decision making skills, educators recognize the importance of becoming familiar with best practice for debriefing and mastering this competency. Implications The utilization of HFS in nursing simulation is widely supported by several nursing governing bodies, leaders in nursing education and nursing education literature. Implications for nurse education relate to educators recognizing HFS as an effective student centered learning and teaching strategy. By incorporating HFS into nursing curriculum, educators give students ample opportunities to develop and practice skills as well as using their prior knowledge in a safe environment without ...
