CAD tends to develop when
cholesterol builds up on the artery
walls, creating plaques. These
plaques cause the arteries to
narrow, reducing blood flow to the
heart, or can cause inflammation in
and hardening of the walls of the
blood vessel.
14. Medical management
1. Cholesterol drugs - Medications can help lower bad cholesterol
and reduce plaque buildup in the arteries. Such drugs include
statins, niacin, fibrates and bile acid sequestrants.
2. Aspirin. Aspirin helps thin the blood and prevent blood clots.
3. Beta blockers. These drugs slow the heart rate. They also lower
blood pressure. EX - ATENELOL
