The Emotions And Attitudes Of Older Adults
Design
The research question focuses on the emotions and attitudes of older adults residing within a CCRC;
therefore, a qualitative descriptive design was chosen for this study. Qualitative descriptive research
supports the researcher remaining close to the words people use to describe their event or situation
(Sandelowski, 2000). Focus groups will be the method used to answer the question, What are the
emotions and attitudes that prevent residents in a CCRC from accepting the guidance of professional
staff in regard to transitioning to a higher level of care or receiving assistance in their home? Focus
groups, by design, support hearing from a group of people with a specific focus, interest, or
characteristics, and will provide data of a qualitative nature to support answering the question of
interest (Krueger, 1988). The participants will state what their attitudes and thoughts are when facing
the possibility of accepting assistance in their apartment or transitioning to a higher level of care such
as AL or NC. Additionally participants also address what the barriers are through open ended
questions.
Two focus groups will be conducted, with openness to initiating a third and fourth focus group if
needed based upon the information generated in the first two focus groups. The first two groups
generally provide new information, but by the third focus group, there may be redundancy, therefore
eliminating the need for a fourth group (Krueger, 1988). A series of open ended

Radio Assignment On Monday afternoon, January 23rd, I tuned into NPR and classical radio for the 3
4 pm hour of classical music. The radio host was Gigi Yellen who was very knowledgeable about the
pieces she had in the playlist for that afternoon. In between pieces she would usually make a comment
or two about some extra musical fact regarding the piece or composer. It was very interesting and I
thoroughly enjoyed the hour of listening. There was not an expressed theme or organization to the
playlist when I tuned in, so I had no preparation for the pieces that were to come. I actually enjoyed
this position of surprise and anticipation because it left me with a completely open mind without ...

Johann left the Josef s group in 1825. Josef Lanner quickly became highly regarded and very popular
for his waltzes. He began giving concerts in the Vienna Volsgarten in 1831 and he conducted the
chamber ball in the Hofburg beginning in the year 1840. His music spread all over Europe and even to
the USA where it was very popular. His popularity eventually waned in the shadow of Johann Strauss.
Lanner composed the piece Die Mozartisten for the 15th anniversary of Mozart s death as a tribute.
The second piece I listened to was the Concierto Madrigal by Joaquin Rodrigo. The piece was very,
very long. As a listener, it was easy to tell there were many separate works or sections within this
piece. The overall feel was a Spanish theme with a lot of great guitar playing. As expressed by Oxford
Music Online, Joaquin Rodrigo became blind at the age of three and remained so until his death. He
lived almost exactly a century later than Josef Lanner. Joaquin was born in Sagunto on the 22nd of
November in the year 1901. He studied music in France and married a Turkish pianist. Soon after his
first composition entitled the Concierto de Aranjuez, he became widely recognized as a leading
composer in Spain. He is accredited with an estimated 170 compositions, 11 of which are concertos.
Towards the end of the 60 s, Rodrigo composed the Concierto Madrigal for two guitars. It is said that
the piece was based on a Renaissance love

Princesse De Clèves
The Princesse de Clèves written by Madame de Lafayette is a French novel that illustrates the inner
workings of the French court in the 17th century. This essay will interpret aspects of The Princesse de
Clèves through the writings of Hobbes to provide an explanation for the social behaviour that is
exhibited throughout the novel. The French court depicted in The Princesse de Clèves is accurate
portrayal of the behaviours that are seen in the French court during the reign of Louis XIV. The court
is a lavish place that on the surface contains the epitome of grace, class, and virtue. Through the
introduction of the character Mlle de Chartres, later to be known as Mme de Clèves, it is shown that
life at court tries to uphold ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Diffidence is exemplified in the Mme de Clèves herself and the teachings of her mother. Mme de
Clèves was taught by her mother of men s insincerity, of their deceptions and infidelity, of the
disastrous effect of love affairs on conjugal life; and she painted for her, on the other hand, the
tranquility that a woman of good reputation enjoys. (Lafayette 10). It is Mme de Clèves upbringing
that causes diffidence during her courting years and married life. Mme de Clèves has a deep mistrust
that is instilled upon her in order to protect her virtue. This causes a personal war within Mme de
Clèves for she knows that in order to preserve her virtue she must have an extreme mistrust of one s
powers and by holding fast to the only thing that can ensure a woman s happiness: to love one s
husband and to be loved by him (10). This education, while theoretically sound, causes a contradiction
for Mme de Clèves. In order to protect her virtue she must be distrusting of men due to the amoral
attitudes he mother has described, but in the same stroke she must fully accept her husband and love
him for that is the only way to live a virtuous life. For Hobbes this diffidence of stance would lead to a
fear based animosity towards men because others may probably be expected to come prepared with
forces united to dispossess and deprive [her]... [of] the fruit of [her] labour the fruit being her virtue
(Hobbes 122).

A Brief Note On The Local Small Businesses
Have you ever considered counting how many local small businesses are there in your community?
Do you think that business would do way better if it could reach out further through a website? Fact is
there are 27 million small businesses on this earth, which means there are several products and
services offered, what if these small business had the potential to upscale but the local market wasn t
great enough? Some of the best ran small businesses have websites that has given the business a great
deal of benefits. Some of the benefits that help small businesses are that they help gain credibility,
save money, accessibility, wider range for target market, customer service and, convenience. I would
like to start with one of the most influential effects a website has on a business which is convenience.
Convenience is a very influential factor, usually if a customer can easily find your site you would see
an increase in traffic on your site. Also, If your website is more convenient than your competitors that
will give you a huge advantage over them, while spreading the name of your brand across the country
rapidly. Another beneficial aspect of having a website is it helps your business save more money. A
website can help a business with money from different angles. People automatically think that having
a website could be costly, well not necessarily it depends on how you utilize the tools given. Websites
will be there all the time and is free to access, versus having a

Being Called Into Ministry Is More To Me Than A Job, It
Being called into Ministry is more to me than a job, it is a calling from the Lord Jesus Christ to
proclaim the Gospel to every tongue and nation. I did not enter the ministry for prestige, because
mother said I should, or for the monetary benefits. I entered the minister because The Lord placed
upon my life a strong calling to serve in a full time capacity. I was asked; how does someone know
that they are called to the ministry. I answered them in a question. Can you be happy doing anything
else? I believe the scripture to be inerrant and perfect and the complete word of God. I will preach it,
teach it and share in until the day I take my last breath of life on this earth. I have studied under many
pastors who preached the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the conclusion of desires for today s church member. However this is contrary to what the Lord
teaches pastors and teachers to do. Let me remind you that in 2 Timothy 4:3 5, the Bible warns us that:
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they
heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth,
and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an
evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. What a powerful truth! People want their own desires.
There is an element regarding preaching we should consider. The element is known as the mandate to
preach . There are many references in the bible of mandates to preach the word. To list a few that
comes to mind are Matthew 28:19 2, Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. 2 Timothy 2:2 states, And the things that
thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be
able to teach others also. 2Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove,
rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. And finally, Titus 2:1 says, But

The Creation Of New Inventions
If people are the same, can the creation of new inventions come into existence? How can society and
individuals improve if there are no differences? In fact, innovation comes from the mind, but the
uniqueness of people has led to these creations. Ever since the first incandescent lightbulb to the
present age of rockets and computers, these inventions are what have helped society progress forward
into a new era of life. However, how can people comprehend that a single person has created a
complex innovation? To explain, a quote describing how to succeed in inventing while facing several
obstacles is the analogy of the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins,
not through strength but by perseverance ( A quote by H. Jackson Brown Jr. ). Going into detail, to
overcome an obstacle does not mean physical strength is necessary to succeed, but through mental
qualities is where success truly appears. For instance, making mistakes on a test can motivate a person
to persevere and improve on the exam. Nevertheless, its creation comes from individuals, but not all
humans can invent a revolutionizing innovation. Why? The characteristics of a person are how an
invention is born. Inventors, such as Thomas Edison, did not revolutionize the world by sheer
strength, but by their mental capabilities to achieve what they wanted to present to the world. That is
their persona. People s persona shows the aspect of their character and the presentation of who they

The Influence Of Pierre Trudeau On Canadian History
Pierre Trudeau`s legacy presents evidence that indicates he was the most influential figure in Canadian
history. Throughout his career, his belief of a distinct Canada apart from Britain has grown and has
developed into many important decisions for Canada to solidify Canada`s reputation among the world
(Bibliography par. 1). Moreover, he strongly believed in a unified country with Quebec, thus
completely rejecting the idea of Quebec separatism, which helped develop Canada`s multiculturalism
(1980 Referendum par. 3). Lastly, he believed in full acceptance of culture and language, therefore he
played a significant role in the creation of official bilingualism. (Bibliography par. 1). Clearly, Pierre
Trudeau has powerfully impacted Canada by prominently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1). Evidently, the Official Languages Act was the key to improving their relationship and created a
pathway to a unified Canada. Firstly, this act helped maintain and strong connection with Quebec and
prevented their total isolation from Canada (par. 1). To explain, Quebec sought to maintain their
culture and preserve the French language and if the terms were not met, they would attempt to leave
Canada (Quebec par. 2). Therefore, this act agreed upon the terms that the Quebecers wanted and
allowed every single Canadian citizen to seek services in their preferred language (Understand par. 1).
This right allowed French Canadians to feel less disconnected with the rest of Canada, thus fixing the
English and French relationship. Secondly, this act prevented discrimination between the two cultures,
as rights were created to merge the two languages into the Canadian society (Understand par. 3). For
example, a section in the Official Languages Act states that federal institutions are required to provide
services in both official languages (par. 3). In other words, these two languages were now
implemented into the Canadian society and English Canadians became more exposed to this minority
culture, which lead to acceptance of the French culture and language. Lastly, the Official Languages
Act endorsed the advancement of

The Assault Rifle Ban
If the government would take a more rapid pace in a full assault weapon ban, then the murder rate in
the country would drop dramatically. The U.S. has one of the highest murder rates for developed
countries such as Japan who has a murder rate of 0.4 per 100,000 people and Britain with a 1.2 per
100,000 people. The U.S. has a murder rate of 4.7 per 100,000 people and it is not getting any better.
A ban on assault rifles would have a positive effect on the murder rate. Assault rifles are known to be
the most dangerous firearm in the world because of its rapid fire capability and its deadly range and
damage. That is what makes it such a unique and interesting weapon that should not be taken lightly.
The government has been working on some bills but they are not putting enough work into making it
happen. Senator Dianne Feinstein, who is in charge of the processes of the ban, is suggesting is that
the government passes a bill that will limit the capacity of ammunition in a magazine and ban assault
weapons that are too dangerous for public use. The safety of U.S. citizens is vital and banning assault
rifles will help make the United States a safer place.
Assault rifles are defined as one of the most dangerous firearms. The government is working to try to
solve the assault weapons crisis, a problem is what they need to ban and what do they need to limit.
There is a large debate on what is classified as an assault weapon some argue that it is a weapon that is
fully automatic.

The Life and Accomplishments of Thomas Paine Essay
The Life and Accomplishments of Thomas Paine
Thomas Paine came as a English man who didn t have much of anything, not many friends, not much

Thomas Paine grew from a sick, unshaven, almost penniless, dirty man to a clean shaven man who
helped band thousands of Englishmen together to fight for Independence.
Thomas Paine was born in England on January 29, 1737. Paine travelled to American 1774, He

Aitkin still tried to get Paine back because many people liked his articles and his poems he d have in
the paper. Paine still stood his ground and said no, Aitkin also didn t want Paine to hold a grudge, but
Paine said he doesn t hold a grudge against anyone but himself.
One of Paine s friends was Thomas Jefferson. Paine looked forward to sharing a pot of coffee with
him, dinner or just sitting in front of a fire. Jefferson drew from Paine as much of him as he could and
then put the confused memories and assembled it all with meaning. One time Jefferson was giving a

Jefferson and didn t want to make a fool out of himself in front of Virginians. Jefferson finally
persuaded
Paine to go. Paine was amazed at the dinner. Washington knew of Paine and quickly shook hands with
him. Washington often read the Pennsylvania

Tamalpais State Park Research Paper
Looming over Marin County and San Francisco, iconic Mount Tamalpais rises over 2500 feet almost
directly above the bay. Most of this mountain is a state park, and there are many miles of hiking and
biking trails. Remember that mountain biking got its start here, and most of the old fire roads are open
to both hikers and bikers. The good news is that, unlike many other biking areas, these bikers seem to
be considerate of hikers.
That was important on the summer day I picked to hike the summit. There are a number of trails
around the top of Mount Tamalpais State Park, and I was looking for something that would cover

After just a few yards on the road, it split off again, the left for cars, the right for bikes and hikers. In
less than ten minutes I was standing at the parking lot, looking up at the Gardner Fire Lookout at the
summit. The .7 mile Verna Dunshee Trail, which I did not take, circles the base of the summit, and
there is a visitor center which is only open on weekends. There is also a restroom and a beverage
vending machine that would not take my money.
Too bad, as the water I brought was now warm. Another trail went up to the summit. It was paved with
wood at the bottom, which became wooded steps a bit further up, rather like a wooden escalator. There
was a handrail on this section. At the top of the steps, about a third of the way, the trail became narrow

Essay On Followers Trust
The emotions leaders display can have a great effect on their ability to influence and lead followers
(Forsyth, 2014). However, the interpretation of emotions by followers is relatively subjective and
there may be many variables. In two studies, Caza, Zhang, Wang, and Bai (2015) researched the
reactions of followers to their leader s emotion, for gaining a better understanding of the reactions to
perceived sincere emotions displayed by leaders. The level of trust followers have for leaders who
demonstrate emotions is the focus throughout the studies. This review will provide a general overview
of the How do you really feel? Effect of leaders perceived emotional sincerity on followers trust

Summarizing the results of the study, the authors recommendation is for leaders to use caution when
regulating their emotions, ensuring that when emotions are displayed, they are sincere.
Evaluation
The conclusions drawn from the research can assist with leader success; however, as acknowledged by
the authors, the results of their study are limited since there are many facets of this topic worthy of
further explanation. For instance, the followers who participated in the study used self report
instruments, with researchers relying on their honesty. It may be possible, when self reporting for the
emotional state of the follower to influence the results. Additionally, individuals have the capacity to
display a wide range of emotions, although differences in follower reactions to a variety of emotions
shared by leaders was not covered in this study. Since this is not covered in the study, it is unclear how
a follower s reaction would change between a display of confidence or vulnerability. Along these line,
the intensity or perceived intensity of a leader s emotions is also not studied. However, there were
many variables considered in the study, including follower age, follower gender, follower work
experience, follower tenure with manager, and leader gender; all which increased the validity of the
results. Two different cultures were used for the study which helped to minimize the cultural influence
one culture may have over the results. While gender was

Happiness In Gatsby
In The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald explores the definitions of happiness. Throughout the novel,
Fitzgerald reveals multitudes of scenarios that describe and define happiness in its purest form.
Happiness is revealed as something temporary and difficult to maintain. Furthermore the reader sees
the conflicts that arise between Tom and Gatsby and their love and happiness towards life and Daisy.
Because of this, Tom and Gatsby play the largest role in describing what happiness is in the novel.
Even further, as their characters evolve, the reader is able to understand how happiness evolves as
well. Through the tragedy in Tom s affair, Tom s craving for drama, and Gatsby s strong desire for
Daisy, it is clear that Fitzgerald wishes to reveal the temporary ... Show more content on

Gatsby represents the clash of love and happiness. Moreover, his persistence and confusion led him to
a false idea of himself. More importantly, Gatsby s trouble with love reveals something significant
about happiness temporary nature. Following Gatsby s dance with Daisy, Gatsby expresses his
distance from her. Nick then proclaims, You can t repeat the past (110). What Nick is alluding too is
Gatsby s prolonging for the same happiness he experienced back when he first met Daisy. Nick does
not believe that happiness exists anymore in the present. This idea is similarly expressed when Nick
says, He talked a lot about the past, and I gathered that he wanted to recover something, some idea of
himself perhaps, that had gone into loving Daisy. His life had been confused and disordered since
then, but if he could return to a certain starting place and go over it all slowly, he could find out what
that thing was (110). Nick describes the idea of happiness that Gatsby formed with Daisy. Ever since
he lost Daisy to the war, Gatsby never recovered that idea. Because of this, Gatsby finds himself lost
and confused. Fitzgerald is explaining that happiness has the tendency to be temporary and
unrecoverable. Fitzgerald s take on happiness reveals it as momentary. Using the hardships of Tom
and Gatsby, Fitzgerald was able to describe happiness in a more cutthroat fashion that takes on the
reality of life into account.

Assignment Statement
In Unit 1, we are introduced to database systems. For your written assignment: Construct an E R
diagram for a car insurance company whose customers own one or more cars each. Each car has
associated with it zero to any number of recorded accidents. Your response must be complete and in

Analysis Considerations
I have chosen to stick closely to the three entity requirements as outlined in the Assignment Statement
since this course is about how to do an E R diagram rather than a mandate to build a perfect car

Front Porch Campaign Essay
The 1920 presidential election proved to be memorable as well as historically significant for a number
of reasons. This time period is surrounded by important events in American history. It falls directly
after World War I, starts the roaring twenties, and leads the United States into the Great Depression.
Warren G. Harding was elected president over all other candidates, with promises of life going back to
normal conditions. At this point in time, American citizens were desperate for one thing: their old
normal life. The election of 1920 was important because our nation had just gotten out of World War I,
the vote ended in a landslide, and Harding changed the United States for the worse.
Preceding the Election The year was 1919 and the fighting of World War I had finally come to an end.
However, this did not mean an end for America s internal issues. ... Show more content on

Rather than facing his opponent, James Cox, Harding campaigned against Wilson. Aforementioned,
Wilson was paralyzed, therefore Harding was only running against the idea of Wilson or what he had
previously stood for. He promised America change, but not a progressive change that Wilson had
provided. He gave the people the promise of normalcy, or a promise to restore the country to the state
it was in before the war. To enforce this promise even more severely, he ran a more personal
campaign. This was called a front porch campaign and it s purpose was to get supporters to come see
and talk to him on his actual front porch. It had worked for other presidents, but a prodigious reason
he did this was to be contrary to Wilson. Harding wanted to portray himself as calm and collected
compared to Wilson s campaign that took him and his failing ideas all over the United States.
(Pietrusza 315). This front porch campaigning separated Harding even further from Wilson, making
the public prefer him over his real opponent,

Ibis Hotels Business Report Essay
IBIS Hotel Report
Ibis, the popular economy hotel chain, opened its first hotel in 1974, in the French town of Bordeaux.
Since then, the company has expanded globally, reaching 40 countries worldwide, opening over 800
hotels. The majority of chains have been established in France, while the UK hosts over 50 chains,
with further four hotel openings expected in December 2009. Recently, the chain has introduced a
strategy to promote the chain s drive for greater and greener customer comfort . (Mintel 2009)

The chain is owned by the French firm Accor , a global corporation operating in the travel and tourism
industry. Accor leads a number of brands, with Ibis falling under its Accor Hospitality sector. As a two

Their market position also suggests that Ibis caters for those with a mid budget (Mintel 2009), and
those looking for extra services such as internet connection and food catering.
Secondary research shows us that Ibis has a fairly respectable reputation in the UK, serving as a low
profile hotel chain. A study found that over 60% of customers thought their experience was either
excellent or good, with around 6 8% finding their experience either poor or unsatisfactory (Mintel
2009). Moreover, further research shows that Ibis shares a similar correlation to the average budget
hotel, scoring slightly under par with regards to friendliness. The hotel suffers from a lack of stand out
feature, as the Mintel Budget Hotels UK August 2009 report points out, Ibis ... has no particular brand
identity of its own (Mintel 2009).
Another interesting consumer attitude is the general opinion towards Ibis s environmental stance. A
July 2009 survey discovered that only a small percentage (around 5%) thought Ibis cares for the
environment, however, as previously mentioned, Ibis launched a new initiative in January 2009,
driving towards greater and greener customer comfort (Mintel 2009), on top of this, Ibis s impressive

Informative Speech On Sororities
Informative Speech Outline Introduction: A) You see them everywhere. Walking around proudly in
their Greek letters that they ve earned, and that they have come a long way to be able to wear. They
come in all different colors such as pink and green, red and black, blue and white.... the list goes on.
Even though they wear different letters and colors, they are all a part of one thing: a sorority. B) All of
these different sororities had to come from somewhere right? C) There are over 80 sororities that are
known today, only 27 of which are not affiliated, meaning that they aren t official but people still join
them. D) According to usnews.com only 39% of women at The University of Alabama are in sorority.
E) Today, I am going to educate you on the origin of sororities, next, compare their history from then
until now, and the overall goal of sororities. A lot of people see the different sorority houses and girls
around their campus, but don t know where they originated from. This brings me to my first main
point. Body: Main Point 1: Sororities were originally created from the image of fraternities. A)
According to dictionary.com, a fraternity is a local or national organization of male students, primarily
for social purposes, usually with secret initiation and rites and a name composed of two or three Greek
letters. B) When Fraternities were first thought of, they had to be kept secret. 1. They were known as
secret societies and only had up to 30 members. 2. When they finally started getting recognition,
women fraternities came about. C) Sororities were originally known as women fraternities. 1. They
were known as women fraternities because that was the only word known to describe them in the
1800s. 2. According to appstate.edu some sororities still are required to use the word fraternity in their
official name because they were already legally incorporated and couldn t change it. 3. The first
woman fraternity was called The Adelphean Society. They were founded in 1851 at Wesleyan College
in Macon, Georgia. Because of this, more women fraternities started to surface and so it began. 4. The
word sorority comes from the Latin word soror meaning sister. This word was first used in 1882 by
the women of Gamma

Model Minority Myth Essay
1.Model Minority Myth: Asian Americans have generally been typified as the model minority which
refers to a perception of them being naturally gifted, hardworking and socially passive (Asian
Americans in Higher Education 13) Their ability to perform well academically and to remain passive
in the larger social scheme makes them less threatening than other minorities, especially African
Americans but the model minority myth may have worked against them, especially in the field of
educational attainment. It is believed that due to the model minority myth, Asian Americans are
victims of political exploitation (Chun 1980, p.7) and in education they are denied certain services
which are readily available to other minorities such as preference in higher education systems.
2: Race: The concept of race is more often than not used as a social construct and it has been
historically used as a means of making laws for the minorities and for the purpose of denying them
certain rights which are easily given to the majority. Social construction of race has also been used as
a means of denying citizenship and marriage rights to people and in the case of Asian Americans,

A Town s Parks And Recreation Department
A town s parks and recreation department is important to get people involved and also draw home
shoppers to the area. Jay Guelfi is the Director for Parks and Recreation in the Town of Hopkinton,
Massachusetts. There are two different parts, parks and recreation. The parks side of operations
involves maintaining different public properties throughout the town including athletic league fields,
the pond, the beach, as well as the town common. The recreation side of operations involves
organizing and running different programs that include athletic programs, academic programs, and
artistic programs. Guelfi incorporates the six P s of marketing into the marketing of his department s
activities. First and foremost, he said that the product they are promoting is healthy recreation which
includes the many activities organized by the department. The places where these products exist are
within the town of Hopkinton. Consequently, all of the products are marketed to the residents of
Hopkinton.
The activities put on by the Parks and Recreation Department are promoted through several different
platforms. Guelfi said that the biggest promotion is put out through social media. In fact, he actually

In A Meritocratic Age Analysis
Politician from all walks of life nowadays agree on one thing: we need to build more meritocratic
societies. That is, societies where everyone, no matter what their background is, has the chance to
succeed on their own merits. This is a beautiful idea responsible for some great things like free
education for all, and a real effort to end nepotism in business and government. We have largely done
away with the old world of feudalism where lords couldn t manage their estates, commanders couldn t
understand the principles of battle, and peasant were brighter than their masters. No longer is

Hester Prynne And Reverend Dimmesdale
Trials and tribulations are experienced by everyone. Ups and downs are just peaks and valleys where
people grow and learn from. Hester Prynne, from The Scarlet Letter, is punished for committing a
crime but she matures and understands why she is being punished. On the other hand, the person she
commits this crime with, Reverend Dimmesdale, holds his tongue forcing him to always think about
it. Therefore, Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote The Scarlet Letter to express that the journey one faces in
the past is irrelevant to the decisions and actions of the present. In the beginning, Hester Prynne
commits adultery with Reverend Dimmesdale and she becomes pregnant with his child. Hester will

He is consumed by his thoughts on his crime, therefore he always has it in the back of his mind.
Because Dimmesdale lives in the past, he is not his healthiest, mentally and physically. He hurts and
every time he is reminded of his sin, he puts a hand on his heart signifying that his heart aches.
Dimmesdale is not healthy and it shows to those around him. Not only is ... his voice more tremulous
than before [he has also made] a constant habit, rather than a casual gesture, to press his hand over his
heart? (90). Dimmesdale feels obliged to give his heart to Hester Prynne and Pearl, and he lets that
damage him. Because he is guilty of the same thing as Hester, he also interprets a meteor as a sign
from the heavenly father. Richard Hull states, Dimmesdale and Hester consider the meanings they
attach to things to be meant by a sender, but both the Enlightenment narrator and Pearl deny such
meanings were sent. Thus there are two interpretations of interpretation (Hull). He talks about the two
ways of interpreting things, believing they are signs or dismissing them completely. Hester believes
her child is a sign as Dimmesdale believes the meteoroid is his sign, and then the narrator and Pearl
decline the idea of messages being sent from a higher power. Dimmesdale may have been
hallucinating when he saw this shooting star but he still depicts it as a message from God. The narrator
says, We impute it, therefore, solely to the disease in his own eye and heart that the minister, looking
upward to the zenith, beheld there the appearance of an immense letter the letter A marked out in lines
of dull red light (116). There is a motif of the scarlet letter and the author uses it to disclose that
Dimmesdale is guilty of the same crime as Hester. They are both guilty but only one of them is
convicted, Hester. Because one of them must deal with their crime publically and the other in private,

Analysis: Debt to GDP ratio United States compared to Germany
United States Debt to GDP ratio In the last year the United States has painfully reached the net public
debt to GDP ratio of 100 percent. This would be the federal government s accumulated debt that is
equal or has actually surpassed the United States Gross Domestic Product in 2010. After the debt
ceiling limit was passed, the Treasury borrowed $238 billion in 2010. This brought public debt to
$14.58 trillion dollars, slightly higher than the United States GDP in 2010, which was $14.54 ... Show

The analysis of Germany, past their stated GDP and their stated debt to GDP ratio is really a study of
the EU/ECB themselves to determine the size and the liabilities that are born by their largest economic
member so that we can fully assess the financial condition of Germany.
Historically, from 1995 until 2011, Germany Government Debt to GDP averaged 65.3 Percent
reaching an all time high of 83.0 Percent in December of 2010 and a record low of 55.6 Percent in
December of 1995. A chart with historical data for Germany Government Debt to GDP is on page 5.
When compared to the United States, Germany by far has a lower debt to GDP ratio. One reason alone
is that Germany is only the size of Oregon, therefore, the population is nowhere near that of the
United States. Germany which has the third largest economy in the world, currently owes around 65%
of their GDP, whereas the United States is at 100 percent. Some facts why the United States has a
higher Debt to GDP ratio are: public debt as percent of GDP the U.S. has 9.4% larger gross debt as
expressed in % of GDP, Government Surplus/Deficit as percent of GDP USA has 5.1percent greater
deficit as expressed in percent of GDP, GDP Growth Rate
USA GDP is growing 0.7percent more over a 10 year period and GDP by Sector the U.S. has a
slightly more industry based economy

Our Group Surveyed Homeless Individuals To Find Out What
Our group surveyed homeless individuals to find out what needs they thought were most important.
We walked around downtown Asheville near Vance Memorial Park, Library and other parts of
downtown to understand the environment the homeless live daily. I could only invest two hours on the
project due to the lack of communication with BeLoved and finding ways of transportation that will
work around everyone s schedule. My next steps are to provide a data analysis on the information we
collected. 2) Individually, people find themselves engaged in a variety of social environments and
based on experiences of overlapping environments that determine the way in that one behaves. When

It gives us the sense to connect with others on a more interactive level. It allows us to become active
people in the community and become the voice for others. For example, watching members of
Asheville city council and voice opinions about how the community should help provide services for
the homeless. When several community members voice the same concerns, this helps unite a
community under a purpose. From experiences, I have learned that people who see others help will
most likely help if there are a strong structure and a mission behind it. BeLoved has done that for
others. It has provided shelter, a safe place, food, clothes and most of all, love and faith for everyone
that comes to BeLoved. The definition of being homeless can mean many things to different people.
Some may think homeless are lazy people who are just unemployed or criminals trying to steal from
others, or one would be sympathetic to their living conditions and they might have had a bad past that
resulted in homeless. I think it is amazing to see that one word can have different meanings, after all
this culture. Culture is how we create an understanding of socioeconomic status and practice our own
interpretation. Therefore, culture is changeable depending on the structure. This allows us to see the
struggles of healthcare among the homeless one way; however, the government can

Gothic Element of The House of Seven Gables
Among the most striking features of the Gothic genre is the style of its architectural settings. In early
Gothic, these were often medievalist, involving ancient stone buildings with elaborate, Gothic arches,
buttresses, passageways, and crypts. This was to become the mise en scene of Gothicism, replete with
trappings of hidden doorways and secret chambers, incomprehensible labyrinths, speaking portraits,
and trapdoors. (Allen Lloyd Smith 7) Gothic Element of the Seven Gables The House of the Seven

A few others in the Pyncheon family would find a similar death in generations to come. One of those
being the Judge whose similarities to the original Pyncheon can be said to be doubling and uncanny.
His desire for land and fortune is what inevitably, what led his similar death. If we move away from
the land and into the house, we can find other gothic features. Within the house of the seven gables,
there are several portraits. Hephzibah and Phoebe sometimes felt a presence within the Portraits.
Hepzibah found herself staring at a portrait of Colonel Puritan. In one sense, this picture had almost
faded into the canvas, and hidden itself behind the duskiness of age; in another, she could not but
fancy that it had been growing more prominent and strikingly expressive, ever since her earliest
familiarity with it as a child (63). The portraits are not actually speaking as Lloyd mentioned above,
but they do not need to be in order for them to be gothic. It is that they seem to be real. For Hepzibah
and Phoebe, some photos have a living quality. These inanimate objects having lifelike features are
enough for them to be gothic. In the story of Alice Pyncheon, we hear her father speak with Mathew
Maule negotiating for the house. This conversation seems to anger the portrait. ... The ghostly portrait

According to Howard Zinn it was for the Gold. Zinn claims that it was money and power that were
driving forces behind Columbus. He tells us that Spain promised him a 10% cut of all the gold found,
governorship of any new found lands, and the new title of Admiral.[2] Gold and the regulation thereof
are the primary focuses of Columbus letter to the King and Queen of Spain, thought to have been
written around the year 1492, but definitely written after the his initial discovery.[3] So whether
wholly or in part it appears that riches and power were factors contributing to Columbus decision to
risk so much. After all he made multiple trips across the Atlantic not just one. So apparently he was
concerned with more than just the discovery of a trade route. Columbus discovery was made possible
by the Spanish Crown therefore all new found lands were claimed in the name of Spain and a Spanish
flag planted on the soil thereof in testament to this fact. Spain was still a catholic nation at this time
and the Spanish monarchy still acknowledged the Pope as the dominant spiritual authority on the
Earth. However it would not be long after Columbus discovery that all of Europe would be shaken to
its very foundation and set ablaze in what we now call the Protestant Reformation. This revolution in
spiritual thought was the result of a simple

Waiting For Superman Film Analysis
As part of a suburban, middle class community, I as well as hundreds of other students who are also
part of this community receive a proper education. Consequently, I have never had the experience of
living in the city and attending a school that is on the other side of the spectrum: one that takes
advantage of the word tenure and deprives students my age and younger of a decent education either
because of low funding, subsequent budget cuts, or a legislation that just does not care. However,
thanks to the 2010 Davis Guggenheim documentary, Waiting for Superman, it is no secret that the
United States has been battling such inequality for several decades. The film follows a superhero
allegory and several inner city kids, all of whom are part of a lower class community and seem to have
their fate sealed because of where they live and their financial situation. As the movie progresses,
Guggenheim presents two sides to this documentary: personal and impersonal. He specifically uses a
definitive structure and emotional appeal to expose the political and social issues that hinder all
children in all areas of the country from receiving a proper education and breaking away from their
poor living situation and a fate that is all too common for inner city kids. Before the kids are formally
and officially introduced, however, in the first few minutes of the movie, educator Geoffrey Canada
shares a symbolic anecdote from his childhood in which he reminisces one of the saddest days

ECV Turning up the Heat in the North East
The profitability of a beef suckler herd is directly related to the number of calves reared per cow
annually. Commercial suckler herds should aim for a tighter calving period with cows producing a
viable calf every 365 days.
The average calving period for lowland suckler herd is 21 weeks, compared to the 12 week target and
reducing the calving period from 21 weeks to 12 weeks can increase revenue from extra weaning
weight by more than £2000 for a 50 cow herd.
Tighter calving periods will increase profitability. If the weaning date on the farm stays constant then
a calf born in the first 3 weeks of calving will on average have a weaning age of 230 days weighing
309kg. A calf born in the 18th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This data is then collected, interpreted and analysed to deliver an accurate indication of breeding
potential. This data can also be used to give health and nutritional insights for the farmer in a user
friendly format.
SCR Heatime works by monitoring the cow s activity with a unique motion sensor tag which records
cow activity in 2 hour blocks, providing detailed data on the cow s activity levels and their intensity.
The data is collected each time the cow passes under the ID unit, the data is transferred from the tag to
the Heatime control box using infra red communication. This allows the base unit to be sited close to
water troughs and other well used routes so the animal s activity data will be picked up regularly.
The activity data is analysed by the system and separates the cow s day to day activity from oestrus
related activities. The screen shows obvious peaks when the cow is in heat and indicates the optimum
time for inseminating the cow.
In addition, SCR Heatime will highlight cows with low activity levels which can act as an early
indication that an animal requires attention. The home screen will flash up as a health alert giving the
farmer early warning to possible ailments in the cow. The system also detects non cycling cows,
allowing them to be investigated so that less fertile cows can be removed from the herd, thereby
decreasing costs.
The first SCR Heatime system has been installed through East Coast Viner s Animal

The Differences Between Parliamentary Presidential System
Differences between Parliamentary system and Presidential system [Judiciary]
In relating both systems, parliamentary and presidential systems are currently using different judiciary
system to enforce law in society. Before entering judiciary segment, it is essential to understand the
definition of judiciary where it can be noted that:
...Judiciary is commonly considered the third branch of government. It stabilizes the political system
by solving disputes involving the country s law... (Barrington, 2010, p. 280)
...It is emphatically the province and duty of the judicial department to say what the law is... John

Administration of law in United Kingdom is different with United States of America, this can shown
in:
...The United Kingdom does not have a single body of law applicable throughout the kingdom.
Scotland has it is own distinctive system and courts, and in Northern Ireland certain spheres of law
differ in substance from those operating in England and Wales.
The main civil courts in England and Wales are:
Magistrates Courts
County Courts for small cases and
The High Court, which is divided into
The Chancery Division,
The Family Division, and
The Queen s Bench Division (including the maritime and commercial courts), for the more important
cases...
(The United Kingdom Judicial System)
But in United States of America the courts that operating are:
...Supreme Courts consisted of six justices, who rode the circuit as judges of the Courts of Appeals.
The courts was reduced to five members at one time and expended to ten at another. Since 1869, The
Supreme Courts has consistently had nine members. And since 1891, the justices have no had to serve
on courts of appeal, although each justice has some responsibilities with at least one appeals court...
(Woll, 1992, p. 268)

This law is really good to me especially when I was in the US Navy reserved. The Uniformed Services
Employment and Reemployment Rights Act is to protect the civilian employment of active and
reserve military personnel in the United States when called to active duty. These law applies to all
services in the military including reserved components. The USERRA clarifies that when a service
member of the armed forces was called to active duty, he or she will retain their current job in the
civilian sector and furthermore the position will be on hold until the service member is back from their
active duty (USERRA, 2016). I can personally say that this law is good for service members who got
activated especially for reservist personnel who were activated. When I was activated for two months
active duty while in the reservist, my employer assured me that I will still get that position when I
return from service. I felt reassured that I will keep my old job when I return from my detachment.
The consequences for not complying with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment
Rights Act will be dealt with the Department of Labor (USERRA, 2016). If found guilty, the company
would compensate the victim with court fees and compensate for any loss wages and benefits. Once
again, the company would also loss income and revenue and the trust of their employee for unfair
treatment.

  • 2. The Emotions And Attitudes Of Older Adults Design The research question focuses on the emotions and attitudes of older adults residing within a CCRC; therefore, a qualitative descriptive design was chosen for this study. Qualitative descriptive research supports the researcher remaining close to the words people use to describe their event or situation (Sandelowski, 2000). Focus groups will be the method used to answer the question, What are the emotions and attitudes that prevent residents in a CCRC from accepting the guidance of professional staff in regard to transitioning to a higher level of care or receiving assistance in their home? Focus groups, by design, support hearing from a group of people with a specific focus, interest, or characteristics, and will provide data of a qualitative nature to support answering the question of interest (Krueger, 1988). The participants will state what their attitudes and thoughts are when facing the possibility of accepting assistance in their apartment or transitioning to a higher level of care such as AL or NC. Additionally participants also address what the barriers are through open ended questions. Two focus groups will be conducted, with openness to initiating a third and fourth focus group if needed based upon the information generated in the first two focus groups. The first two groups generally provide new information, but by the third focus group, there may be redundancy, therefore eliminating the need for a fourth group (Krueger, 1988). • 4. Npr And Classical Radio For The 3-4 Pm Hour Of Classical... Evan Yip Professor Diaz MUHL 124 24 January 2017 Radio Assignment On Monday afternoon, January 23rd, I tuned into NPR and classical radio for the 3 4 pm hour of classical music. The radio host was Gigi Yellen who was very knowledgeable about the pieces she had in the playlist for that afternoon. In between pieces she would usually make a comment or two about some extra musical fact regarding the piece or composer. It was very interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed the hour of listening. There was not an expressed theme or organization to the playlist when I tuned in, so I had no preparation for the pieces that were to come. I actually enjoyed this position of surprise and anticipation because it left me with a completely open mind without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Johann left the Josef s group in 1825. Josef Lanner quickly became highly regarded and very popular for his waltzes. He began giving concerts in the Vienna Volsgarten in 1831 and he conducted the chamber ball in the Hofburg beginning in the year 1840. His music spread all over Europe and even to the USA where it was very popular. His popularity eventually waned in the shadow of Johann Strauss. Lanner composed the piece Die Mozartisten for the 15th anniversary of Mozart s death as a tribute. The second piece I listened to was the Concierto Madrigal by Joaquin Rodrigo. The piece was very, very long. As a listener, it was easy to tell there were many separate works or sections within this piece. The overall feel was a Spanish theme with a lot of great guitar playing. As expressed by Oxford Music Online, Joaquin Rodrigo became blind at the age of three and remained so until his death. He lived almost exactly a century later than Josef Lanner. Joaquin was born in Sagunto on the 22nd of November in the year 1901. He studied music in France and married a Turkish pianist. Soon after his first composition entitled the Concierto de Aranjuez, he became widely recognized as a leading composer in Spain. He is accredited with an estimated 170 compositions, 11 of which are concertos. Towards the end of the 60 s, Rodrigo composed the Concierto Madrigal for two guitars. It is said that the piece was based on a Renaissance love ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Princesse De Clèves The Princesse de Clèves written by Madame de Lafayette is a French novel that illustrates the inner workings of the French court in the 17th century. This essay will interpret aspects of The Princesse de Clèves through the writings of Hobbes to provide an explanation for the social behaviour that is exhibited throughout the novel. The French court depicted in The Princesse de Clèves is accurate portrayal of the behaviours that are seen in the French court during the reign of Louis XIV. The court is a lavish place that on the surface contains the epitome of grace, class, and virtue. Through the introduction of the character Mlle de Chartres, later to be known as Mme de Clèves, it is shown that life at court tries to uphold ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Diffidence is exemplified in the Mme de Clèves herself and the teachings of her mother. Mme de Clèves was taught by her mother of men s insincerity, of their deceptions and infidelity, of the disastrous effect of love affairs on conjugal life; and she painted for her, on the other hand, the tranquility that a woman of good reputation enjoys. (Lafayette 10). It is Mme de Clèves upbringing that causes diffidence during her courting years and married life. Mme de Clèves has a deep mistrust that is instilled upon her in order to protect her virtue. This causes a personal war within Mme de Clèves for she knows that in order to preserve her virtue she must have an extreme mistrust of one s powers and by holding fast to the only thing that can ensure a woman s happiness: to love one s husband and to be loved by him (10). This education, while theoretically sound, causes a contradiction for Mme de Clèves. In order to protect her virtue she must be distrusting of men due to the amoral attitudes he mother has described, but in the same stroke she must fully accept her husband and love him for that is the only way to live a virtuous life. For Hobbes this diffidence of stance would lead to a fear based animosity towards men because others may probably be expected to come prepared with forces united to dispossess and deprive [her]... [of] the fruit of [her] labour the fruit being her virtue (Hobbes 122). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being Called Into Ministry Is More To Me Than A Job, It Being called into Ministry is more to me than a job, it is a calling from the Lord Jesus Christ to proclaim the Gospel to every tongue and nation. I did not enter the ministry for prestige, because mother said I should, or for the monetary benefits. I entered the minister because The Lord placed upon my life a strong calling to serve in a full time capacity. I was asked; how does someone know that they are called to the ministry. I answered them in a question. Can you be happy doing anything else? I believe the scripture to be inerrant and perfect and the complete word of God. In fact, innovation comes from the mind, but the uniqueness of people has led to these creations. Ever since the first incandescent lightbulb to the present age of rockets and computers, these inventions are what have helped society progress forward into a new era of life. However, how can people comprehend that a single person has created a complex innovation? To explain, a quote describing how to succeed in inventing while facing several obstacles is the analogy of the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins, not through strength but by perseverance ( A quote by H. Jackson Brown Jr. ). Going into detail, to overcome an obstacle does not mean physical strength is necessary to succeed, but through mental qualities is where success truly appears. For instance, making mistakes on a test can motivate a person to persevere and improve on the exam. Nevertheless, its creation comes from individuals, but not all humans can invent a revolutionizing innovation. Why? The characteristics of a person are how an invention is born. Inventors, such as Thomas Edison, did not revolutionize the world by sheer strength, but by their mental capabilities to achieve what they wanted to present to the world. That is their persona. Moreover, he strongly believed in a unified country with Quebec, thus completely rejecting the idea of Quebec separatism, which helped develop Canada`s multiculturalism (1980 Referendum par. 3). Evidently, the Official Languages Act was the key to improving their relationship and created a pathway to a unified Canada. Firstly, this act helped maintain and strong connection with Quebec and prevented their total isolation from Canada (par. 1). Therefore, this act agreed upon the terms that the Quebecers wanted and allowed every single Canadian citizen to seek services in their preferred language (Understand par. 1). This right allowed French Canadians to feel less disconnected with the rest of Canada, thus fixing the English and French relationship. Secondly, this act prevented discrimination between the two cultures, as rights were created to merge the two languages into the Canadian society (Understand par. 3). For example, a section in the Official Languages Act states that federal institutions are required to provide services in both official languages (par. 3). In other words, these two languages were now implemented into the Canadian society and English Canadians became more exposed to this minority culture, which lead to acceptance of the French culture and language. Assault rifles are known to be the most dangerous firearm in the world because of its rapid fire capability and its deadly range and damage. That is what makes it such a unique and interesting weapon that should not be taken lightly. The government has been working on some bills but they are not putting enough work into making it happen. Senator Dianne Feinstein, who is in charge of the processes of the ban, is suggesting is that the government passes a bill that will limit the capacity of ammunition in a magazine and ban assault weapons that are too dangerous for public use. The safety of U.S. citizens is vital and banning assault rifles will help make the United States a safer place. Assault rifles are defined as one of the most dangerous firearms. Nick does not believe that happiness exists anymore in the present. We have largely done away with the old world of feudalism where lords couldn t manage their estates, commanders couldn t understand the principles of battle, and peasant were brighter than their masters. • 26. Hester Prynne And Reverend Dimmesdale Trials and tribulations are experienced by everyone. Ups and downs are just peaks and valleys where people grow and learn from. Hester Prynne, from The Scarlet Letter, is punished for committing a crime but she matures and understands why she is being punished. On the other hand, the person she commits this crime with, Reverend Dimmesdale, holds his tongue forcing him to always think about it. Therefore, Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote The Scarlet Letter to express that the journey one faces in the past is irrelevant to the decisions and actions of the present. In the beginning, Hester Prynne commits adultery with Reverend Dimmesdale and she becomes pregnant with his child. Hester will not give the name of the father to the townsfolk, urging Dimmesdale ... Because Dimmesdale lives in the past, he is not his healthiest, mentally and physically. He hurts and every time he is reminded of his sin, he puts a hand on his heart signifying that his heart aches. Dimmesdale is not healthy and it shows to those around him. Not only is ... his voice more tremulous than before [he has also made] a constant habit, rather than a casual gesture, to press his hand over his heart? (90). Dimmesdale feels obliged to give his heart to Hester Prynne and Pearl, and he lets that damage him. Because he is guilty of the same thing as Hester, he also interprets a meteor as a sign from the heavenly father. Richard Hull states, Dimmesdale and Hester consider the meanings they attach to things to be meant by a sender, but both the Enlightenment narrator and Pearl deny such meanings were sent. Thus there are two interpretations of interpretation (Hull). He talks about the two ways of interpreting things, believing they are signs or dismissing them completely. Hester believes her child is a sign as Dimmesdale believes the meteoroid is his sign, and then the narrator and Pearl decline the idea of messages being sent from a higher power. Dimmesdale may have been hallucinating when he saw this shooting star but he still depicts it as a message from God. The narrator says, We impute it, therefore, solely to the disease in his own eye and heart that the minister, looking upward to the zenith, beheld there the appearance of an immense letter the letter A marked out in lines of dull red light (116). There is a motif of the scarlet letter and the author uses it to disclose that Dimmesdale is guilty of the same crime as Hester. They are both guilty but only one of them is convicted, Hester. Because one of them must deal with their crime publically and the other in private, they cope with it in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Debt to Gdp Ratio Analysis: Debt to GDP ratio United States compared to Germany Econ 201 Alexandria Walker University of Maryland University College Professor Mensah Dartey Analysis: Debt to GDP ratio United States compared to Germany United States Debt to GDP ratio In the last year the United States has painfully reached the net public debt to GDP ratio of 100 percent. This would be the federal government s accumulated debt that is equal or has actually surpassed the United States Gross Domestic Product in 2010. Historically, from 1995 until 2011, Germany Government Debt to GDP averaged 65.3 Percent reaching an all time high of 83.0 Percent in December of 2010 and a record low of 55.6 Percent in December of 1995. A chart with historical data for Germany Government Debt to GDP is on page 5. When compared to the United States, Germany by far has a lower debt to GDP ratio. One reason alone is that Germany is only the size of Oregon, therefore, the population is nowhere near that of the United States. Germany which has the third largest economy in the world, currently owes around 65% of their GDP, whereas the United States is at 100 percent. Some may think homeless are lazy people who are just unemployed or criminals trying to steal from others, or one would be sympathetic to their living conditions and they might have had a bad past that resulted in homeless. • 30. Gothic Element of The House of Seven Gables Among the most striking features of the Gothic genre is the style of its architectural settings. In early Gothic, these were often medievalist, involving ancient stone buildings with elaborate, Gothic arches, buttresses, passageways, and crypts. This was to become the mise en scene of Gothicism, replete with trappings of hidden doorways and secret chambers, incomprehensible labyrinths, speaking portraits, and trapdoors. (Allen Lloyd Smith 7) Gothic Element of the Seven Gables The House of the Seven Gables, by Nathanial Hawthorn is filled with gothic tropes and features. One of those being the Judge whose similarities to the original Pyncheon can be said to be doubling and uncanny. His desire for land and fortune is what inevitably, what led his similar death. If we move away from the land and into the house, we can find other gothic features. Within the house of the seven gables, there are several portraits. Hephzibah and Phoebe sometimes felt a presence within the Portraits. Hepzibah found herself staring at a portrait of Colonel Puritan. In one sense, this picture had almost faded into the canvas, and hidden itself behind the duskiness of age; in another, she could not but fancy that it had been growing more prominent and strikingly expressive, ever since her earliest familiarity with it as a child (63). The portraits are not actually speaking as Lloyd mentioned above, but they do not need to be in order for them to be gothic. It is that they seem to be real. For Hepzibah and Phoebe, some photos have a living quality. These inanimate objects having lifelike features are enough for them to be gothic. Zinn claims that it was money and power that were driving forces behind Columbus. He tells us that Spain promised him a 10% cut of all the gold found, governorship of any new found lands, and the new title of Admiral.[2] Gold and the regulation thereof are the primary focuses of Columbus letter to the King and Queen of Spain, thought to have been written around the year 1492, but definitely written after the his initial discovery.[3] So whether wholly or in part it appears that riches and power were factors contributing to Columbus decision to risk so much. After all he made multiple trips across the Atlantic not just one. So apparently he was concerned with more than just the discovery of a trade route. Columbus discovery was made possible by the Spanish Crown therefore all new found lands were claimed in the name of Spain and a Spanish flag planted on the soil thereof in testament to this fact. Spain was still a catholic nation at this time and the Spanish monarchy still acknowledged the Pope as the dominant spiritual authority on the Earth. Consequently, I have never had the experience of living in the city and attending a school that is on the other side of the spectrum: one that takes advantage of the word tenure and deprives students my age and younger of a decent education either because of low funding, subsequent budget cuts, or a legislation that just does not care. However, thanks to the 2010 Davis Guggenheim documentary, Waiting for Superman, it is no secret that the United States has been battling such inequality for several decades. The film follows a superhero allegory and several inner city kids, all of whom are part of a lower class community and seem to have their fate sealed because of where they live and their financial situation. As the movie progresses, Guggenheim presents two sides to this documentary: personal and impersonal. He specifically uses a definitive structure and emotional appeal to expose the political and social issues that hinder all children in all areas of the country from receiving a proper education and breaking away from their poor living situation and a fate that is all too common for inner city kids. Before the kids are formally and officially introduced, however, in the first few minutes of the movie, educator Geoffrey Canada shares a symbolic anecdote from his childhood in which he reminisces one of the saddest days ... Commercial suckler herds should aim for a tighter calving period with cows producing a viable calf every 365 days. The average calving period for lowland suckler herd is 21 weeks, compared to the 12 week target and reducing the calving period from 21 weeks to 12 weeks can increase revenue from extra weaning weight by more than £2000 for a 50 cow herd.
