Critical Analysis Of Watership Down
Watership Down Literary Analysis
Good leaders ensure the world continues to advance. In contrast, bad leaders allow cruelty to
spread and are often over controlling, taking away the freedom of their people. Richard Adams s
Watership Down is a story about rabbits trying to establish a warren, a society. Hazel, the main
character of the book, has been informed that his warren is in danger. He leads a group of rabbits
to try and start a new warren in a better environment, away from peril. While trying to find this
location, Hazel and his rabbits stumble upon another warren, Efrafa. The secretive warren is led by
a fierce rabbit, General Woundwort. Though Hazel and General Woundwort are both leaders, they
lead in two distinct ways. Hazel and General Woundwort are drastically different leaders because
they take power in contrasting ways, have incongruent methods of leadership, and view their role as
leader differently.
Hazel and General Woundwort are contrastive leaders because they acquire power differently.
Hazel assumes power through respect. He earns the respect of the rabbits in his warren, lending
them to establish Hazel as leader. The respect of the warren is earned when Hazel leads the
rabbits across the common, even while they are all exhausted. The rabbits are so impressed,
Blackberry says Oh, Hazel...you re what I call a Chief Rabbit! (57). The Chief Rabbit is the leader
of the warren. This title often belongs to the strongest of the rabbits, but Hazel is not

Zodiac Essay
The Monster Within In Zodiac written by Robert Graysmith he says, Just because you can not
prove it does not mean it is not true. This was completely accurate and was disheartening for
David Toschi, the primary detective on the case because he could not uncover concrete evidence to
convict Arthur Leigh Lee Allen. Lee was the number one suspect in the investigation and all signs
pointed to him being the Zodiac, which was the main similarity between the publication and
motion picture. In addition, the text contained two prime suspects but the feature film only fixated
on one. Graysmith later went to say, The film ends by hinting that Zodiac may be the man behind
you in the theatre (Zodiac). He was articulating how they should be vigilant at all times because
Zodiac could be the person juxtapose to them and never know it. People may look ordinary but in
reality, everybody is insane, some just suppress it better than others. Zodiac written by Graysmith
had several similarities with the motion picture directed by David Fincher but the main similarity
was the accusation of Arthur Leigh Allen being Zodiac. They focused mainly on Lee being the
main suspect considering all signs pointed to him even though law enforcement officers did not
have sufficient evidence to validate it. Zodiac allegedly murdered 37 civilians although only seven
were substantiated to be Zodiac with two survivors: Mike Mageau and Bryan Hartnell. However,
the cinema and publication both invoked

The Importance of Reducing Detrimental Vehicle Emissions...
If greenhouse gases were nonexistent, the Earth s atmosphere would be 33 degrees Celsius colder
than it is currently. Throughout the past century, the entire Earth has increased in temperature by
nearly .5 degrees Celsius. (Hopwood and Cohen) One contributor to this problem is vehicle fuel
emissions. These emissions are seriously affecting the health of humans. As a result, scientists are
working on alternate fuel vehicles and zero emission vehicles.
There are many pollutants that are emitted from a regular vehicle today. According to one website,
these pollutants include carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, oxides of nitrogen, particulate matter,
ozone, and oxides of sulfur. One may not know that lead was previously in U.S. gasoline ... Show

Scientists say that 55% of man made NOx emissions come from the average motor vehicle. (
Alternative )
Particulate matter (PM) aggravates asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, heart disease, and lung disease.
PM is a carrier of many toxic compounds and contributes to haze. On top of that, it pollutes fresh
and coastal waters, and contaminates farmland. PM is emitted mainly from diesel vehicles and is
formed from reactions between nitrous oxides and sulfur oxides. ( Alternative )
Ozone (O3), also referred to as smog, is a strong oxidant that reduces lung function, intensify
asthma, increase chances for respiratory illness, and lead to permanent lung damage. Also, it may
damage plant life. O3, not being a direct vehicle emission, is produced by reactions of nitrous
oxides and atmospheric air in the presence of sunlight. The formation of O3 generally occurs more
often in urban areas rather than rural. ( Alternative )
Oxides of sulfur (SOx) can cause respiratory illness, heart disease, and lung disease. It causes PM
to form, and is a primary cause of acid rain. Most vehicle emissions studies exclude SOx from the
list due to the fact that it is emitted at such a small quantity compared to the total amount of
emissions given off by regular human activity. Recently in 2006, diesel fuels SOx content was
lowered, even further than it previously was after the first SOx reduce, making it a ultra low sulfur
diesel (ULSD). Although it is not a

My Personal Strengths and Weaknesses in Netball Essay
From observing myself in a game situation these are what I consider are my strengths and
weaknesses for Netball and why I think each one is a strength or weakness.
Strengths
Weaknesses
Shooting
Shoulder Pass
Bounce Pass
Chest Pass
Pivoting
Footwork
High running Pass
Reaction Time
Agility
Speed
Strengths:
Strength 1: Shooting is one of my strengths as I think I perform it correctly. By correctly I mean
having a balanced position (standing with my feet shoulder width apart and keeping my body
straight), holding the ball above my head (so that the ball is resting on the tips of my fingers and
my thumbs form a W shape), bending my knees as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s a high pass and should enable you to speed up the game. This pass requires lots of power to
make it travel faster; if it s slow and loopy a defender could intercept it. For me the power comes
from behind the ball. I spread my fingers around the ball, bend my arms and try to keep my elbows
close to my body. I then lift the ball above my right shoulder (as I m right handed) and let it drop
back slightly. This gives me extra power when I go to release the ball. To make it go through the
air faster I put one foot forward, this also helps me to lean into the pass. I think when you throw a
shoulder pass it s best to aim for your team mates head and chest (this will make it easier for them
to catch the ball). In my opinion to master a shoulder pass you have to follow the directions above
and finally when you release the ball I think you should follow through the pass (basically
stretching out your arms and fingertips after releasing the ball.
Strength 3: The bounce pass is a strength of mine and I think it s a really good pass to be good at.
You use it for short distances and I ve noticed from observing myself that it works well when you
find defenders are closing in on you and you need to act quickly. It s the best short distance pass to
use when players like the Centre and Wing Attack need to pass the ball into the semi circle to the

Cafe Monte Bianco
CafГ© Monte Bianco
To analyze this case, the analyst conducted liquidity, solvency and profitability ratios for CafГ©s
Monte Bianco along with sales and income projections for operating the business under both private
label and premium brands. The analyst has found that the firm utilizes high leverage to achieve
ROE. Further, it is the opinion of the analyst that the firm should abandon private label brands and
market its own premium brand; thereby leveraging its industry reputation as a fine purveyor of
coffees.
CafГ©s Monte Bianco Liquidity Analysis: The current ratio is 0.57 and the quick ratio is 0.41.
This is due to higher liabilities and is an indicator of poor liquidity. The Inventory turnover ratio is a
healthy 13.83, which means ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since an ROE of 21.48% equals the product of 4.41% and 4.87 (ROA and Equity Multiplier), it
indicates that the firm is able to achieve such high ROE only through a high financial leverage.
Strategic Action for Cafes Monte Bianco: Assuming that they will be able to sell all produced
capacity, with 0% advertising, and with a 6,000,000 kg annual capacity [Exhibit 2 in case],
CMB should be able to generate revenues of 178,322,200,000 liras (Scenario 2). With resulting
COGS of 114,954,330,000 liras and other expenses, they should still be able to generate a Net
Income of 28,732,818,000 liras. Alternatively, if the company spent the equivalent of 10% of
sales on advertising, revenues will increase to 215.62 billion lira, and net profit to 25 billion lira.
So the company may be better off not advertising, at 0% (Scenario 3).
Pursuing Dino s Production Plan for only Private Brand (Scenario 1) will result in annual
revenues of just 52.8 billion liras, COGS of 42.91 billion liras and even with reduced advertising
and selling expenses, a resulting net loss of 1,138,659,000 liras, before taxes. This is clearly not a
viable strategy. Since the firm utilized only 39.13% of installed plant capacity in year 2000, they
clearly need to increase revenues and profit margins by pursuing their own premium brand, instead
of pursuing private label brands with higher volumes, but much lower profit margins, and an

A Research Study On Genetic Engineering
Genetic engineering is using molecular biology methods to modify the genetic information of an
organism. Its aims include learning about the biology of an organism and generating new or
improved commercial products. Plant biotechnology is manipulating plants specifically to improve
agricultural needs. GMOs or genetically modified organisms are organisms modified by genetic
engineering to express desirable traits. DNAfragments containing said desirable traits and a means
of introducing the DNA to the host plants is required for genetic engineering. Some common
methods of introducing DNA fragments to plants include the use of viruses, chemicals, some means
of physical insertion, or the use of agrobacterium.
Mysore et al aimed to study the mechanism of Agrobacterium transformation, DNA transfer, and the
possible limits of genetic engineering. A complementation test of rat5 mutant and Histone H2A
(RAT5) showed rat5 mutant is responsible for the mutant phenotype. Transient and stable ОІ
glucuronidase expression and T DNA levels of wild type and rat5 Arabidopsis plants showed that
the rat5 mutant is deficient in T DNA integration. The researchers also thought rat5 could be
haploinsufficient and to test this hypothesis they transformed wild type plants with A. tumefaciens
GV3101(pE1553) and found the rat5 mutant does not show dominance in WT plants.1 So, two
copies of RAT5 geneare necessary to conduct Agrobacterium mediated transformation. This paper
examines a protein gene (H2A)

Edgar Allan Poe s Leathery
Streaks of shimmering sunlight filtered through a golden canopy of trees, casting elegant shadows
to dance across the mossy verdure. The lush grass was invested with thriving insects that swarmed
on the ground like an overcrowded marketplace. The crickets made a harmonious song that echoed
throughout the forest, almost in sync with the repetitive calls of exotic animals that were crawling
through shrubbery and soaring high in the leafy giants. Leathery leaves brushed against each other
in the feeble breeze, almost as if they were whispering in hushed tones whilst squirrels ran and
frolicked in the bushes.
A balmy smell lingered in the humid air, mixing with the scent of damp earth. Flowers were dotted
across the luscious forest floor; their enticing fragrance leaving an odd taste in their wake. Vines
twisted up the trees, reaching magnificent heights though some hung down like curtains, hiding
parts of the forest away in darkness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

boisterous cries of animals, followed closely by a dazzling fork of lightening. Soon enough, water
was cascading from the heavens in a torrent of rain, teaming up with the howl of wind that weaved
through the clattering oaks. Monkeys darted in and out of the treetops, trying to find the best place
to take shelter. The raindrops fell heavily, hitting the trees with such force that many leaves had also

Easter Island Collapse Essay
ABSTRACT Easter Island, also known by the indigenous name Rapa Nui, is a remote island in
the south Pacific Ocean located over 2000 miles off the coast of Chile and over 1250 miles from
the nearest Polynesian island. Easter Island is best known for the hundreds of statues scattered
across the island, largely because the question of how exactly these statues got to where they
rest has stirred the minds of many theorists since the island s discovery by the Dutch Admiral
Roggeveen on Easter Sunday of 1722. This very mystery is considered a pillar in Jared Diamond s
book Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed. Diamond claims that the people of
Easter Island carelessly abused the trees located on the island, mainly for the purpose... Show more

He believes that the islanders cut each tree down one by one for materialistic and impractical
purposes with no consideration to consequences of their actions, and claims that we are currently
doing the same thing to our planet. Could Diamond be right? Could the story of Easter Island
truly be considered a parable in respect to our need for oil and other natural resources? The
purpose of this research paper is to take a consequentialist approach to explore the ethical claims
Diamond makes of environmental irresponsibility on Easter Island and its unique case of
deforestation. I hold that Diamond s claim of Easter Island s self induced environmental
degradation is wholly misleading as a parable for our planet s current path toward environmental
sustainability. Rather, I will show that the past inhabitants of this small island were, in fact,
environmental stewards, and that they overcame challenges that were brought on by causes that
were completely out of their control. Furthermore, I will explain how Diamond s claim that Easter
Island being a fair comparison is very misleading in regards to our current environmental situation,
as the occurrences on Easter Island are far different than what put our planet in the environmental
challenges we are currently

How Marketing Can Be Defined As A Managerial And Social...
Marketing can be defined as a managerial and social process whereby groups and individuals
obtain what they need or desire through the creation of a product, offering it and exchanging the
product of value with others. Some of the marketing concepts include needs, wants, and demand;
products; cost, value, and satisfaction; transactions and exchanges; networks and relationships;
markets; marketers and prospects. A need is a state by which basic satisfaction is deprived. A
need is usually a biological concept that is not created by the marketer. Examples of needs are
thirst, safety, shelter, food and clothing. Wants, on the other hand, can be defined as the desire
for a particular satisfaction of need that is considered to be another level of need. An example of
a want is when an individual is in need of food; he would want the food to be prepared in a
particular way and would want the food to be fish or chicken. Demand, on the other hand, is a
want of a particular product backed by the ability as well as willingness to buy the product. A
product can be defined as goods and services that bring forth the satisfaction to human needs, wants
and value. Cost satisfaction, on the other hand, is defined as the consumer estimates and the
capacity of the product to satisfy another need. For one to get the value of something then there
must be something that he is able to give up the opportunity cost. Different products cost differently
depending on the level of satisfaction perceived.

State of Racism and Gender Discrimination
What is discrimination? Discrimination is the prejudicial treatment of a different person or groups
of people based on certain characteristics. In the United States there are seven protected
characteristics or classes that are defined by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age
Discrimination Employment Act, and the American Disabilities Act that can not be discriminated
against: race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, and disability. This paper focuses on two of
the protected classes: race and gender discrimination.

These requirements are important to becoming a fire fighter and many argue that they are more
than necessary. However, this does not mean that the fire department does not want to work
with women. It is just the policy to set the standards high. Another interesting example: A male
employee was fired by his employer because he refused to work at night ( Small Business
Encyclopedia 2002). This company had a policy saying that women did not have to work at
night because the company was located in a high crime area. The male employees had to work
the night shifts for the company, while the women employees did not. The male employee in
question filed a suit under Title VII against his employer claiming sexual discrimination. The
company claimed that several female employees would quit if they were forced to work at
night. The company also claimed the policy was a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ).
This case is interesting because BFOQ can be used as a defense to allow certain discrimination.
BFOQ is an exception provided by Title VII for jobs that require a specific religion, sex, national
origin, or age as a reasonable necessity for normal operations of a business. Although BFOQ
applies to the fire department qualifications, the courts deemed that the company who asked only
its male workers to take the night shift was could not use BFOQ as a valid defense ( Small Business

Rain Or Snow By Thomas C. Frost

AP Eng. Lit. Period 3

Rain or Shine
Weather was used as a literary technique throughout the novel of Thomas C. Foster. It is not yet
explained until the ninth chapter titled Its More Than Just Rain or Snow . He begins with a very
common line among stories; It was a dark and stormy night. This ensures the same response from
all readers. Rain can be used to add dramatic effects to a scene which is why we all have the same
negative reaction to the phrase. The main idea Foster is trying to explain is that rain never means
rain. We sense that rain is always to be associated with negative feelings and or outcomes. Foster
explains that there is much more to it.
Rain can be used as a way to show ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would be the lesser side of snows purpose to literature. It can also be used as a source of hope.
Snow actual can be useful if you are to bury yourself in it. It works as an insulator which can be
used to give a positive vibe by the written scenes involving it.
We have covered rain and snow. There s one that has been left out; fog. So far we have been
blessed with both rain and snow having negative and positive reflections on the scene. That is
not the case with this one. Fog is used to express uncertainty. The thicker the fog the less you can
see literally but in a figurative way an author can use it to show a tough decision needing to be
made by a character or an undetermined future or path. It can spark fear in the eyes of those
surrounded by it. We, being human, re scared of the unknown. Fog is the perfect way to display
this lack of knowledge through the use of weather. It blocks the light. We know that all things bad
lie within darkness but the problem is that we do not know what specifically is within it. This
gives the author a chance to direct the story in a new direction. It is an escape route in a way.
Authors can use fog to divert the characters in a different direction which results in an overall
change of the plot.
There s more to weather than just cloudy days. The sun can be used to describe a sort of
happiness given off by a character. It can be used to show a positive take on an altered path. You
can say that the day went from

remote areas. For evidence extracted from iMINCO (2013), the Adelaide Hills area will benefit from
the economic advantage in Adelaide by means of future construction and permanent mining jobs, as
there is potential for hundreds of new highly paid households in the mining industry.
On the other hand, mining industry has industrialised suburban areas by way of polluting the
countryside. It has been confirmed by Kelly (2013) that greenhouse gas emissions is a major impact
from massive coal mining developments and coal seam gas. Nevertheless, environmental concerns
and actions have been taken sand mining terminated its operation at Whiskey Swamp over five

and reseeding the land according to Australian Mining (2013). Moreover, South Australia gained 20
per cent of jobs growth in regional areas which produce coal due to actions on cutting pollution as
mentioned by the Australian Conversation Foundation (2010).
Furthermore, South Australia s mining industry also provides cultural advantages to the state; it
removes the gender and cultural barriers in the working culture today. For instance, an effective

The Self Essay
The Self Every situation that an individual is exposed to throughout life, helps mold our self. As
humans we have the ability to see ourselves from the outside, and all through life we try to see
what others see and our selfrevolves around the generalized other. We observe how others perceive
us and we make conclusions depending on our observations. How we act around others depends on
the image we feel they have towards us.

On the other hand if you see yourself as an individual who can communicate without a problem
and you see that you can keep others interested in a given conversations, your reaction is more
positive. Through this looking glass self we develop a self concept. Depending on the
observations we make concerning the reactions of others we develop feelings and ideas about
ourselves. The reflection we see in the mirror is either negative or positive depending on the
feedback we get back from those around us. Misjudgments of the reactions of others become part
of our self concept also the misinterpretations of how others think of us. Self concepts begins in
childhood but it continues to develop throughout life. As we observe how other people react to us,
we modify our self.
The self is never a finished project, and it continues to change as our life takes different turns. Our
self reacts to the environment that we are in. As the self expands we put together the different
reactions making us a unique individual. Every individual has a different way of thinking and
therefore they make their own choices about certain situations. Going through different life

Handgun Ownership Research Paper
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution gives residents the privilege to have and
carry weapons. It is reasonable that Americans would need to have weapons, for example, shotguns
and rifles for hunting. It is crazy that our administration would permit individuals to have handguns.
Handgun ownership should to be entirely restricted, because they are made only to kill individuals,
they have expanded the homicide rate in the U.S., and they have even permitted kids to effortlessly
kill other youngsters.
Why might our nation permit us to have the privilege to have, own an item that is destructive? Our
administration appears to need to ensure us. For instance, safety belt laws and cruiser head
protector laws were made to secure our lives. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
authorizes contamination laws to keep us sheltered and sound. The Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) assesses nourishment and tests medications to ensure American are not hurt by bad
nutritions and medications but, yet our legislature permits pretty much anyone to have and stroll

The Theory Of Crime And Crime
Introduction
The term of crime represent an unlawful act punished by the state. Crime is something that is
against the law. The common use of the term Crime makes it main to define the limitations which
construct it however, doing so is not simply a matter of common sense. There are a number of
complex political and economic forces which help to define crime in practice within a specific
society. The most commonly accepted definition of crime is an act that is capable of being
followed by criminal connections. (w.mccorkle, 1959, p. 46 to 48)
Review of the literature
Criminology focuses on the causes, incidences and control of individual and group criminal
behaviour. In criminology, there are many theories that focus on causal analysis of the crime. They
are termed as the crime causation theories. These theories aim at coming up with certain
generalization as to be able to explain the causal connection between the factors which may
lubricate or lead to the existence of crime in our society and crime itself. The debate on why people
commit crime is a difficult one to settle down. Causation theories in criminology are important as
their understanding will help us to

Through her assortment of unpalatable characters and violent actions,
O Connor tries to show grace at work in the world. According to her beliefs Christ, the Incarnate
Son of God, has shown that God so loved the world that He became man Himself. Yet this God is
not accepted by men, so they have to be shocked into a recognition of their need for Him and the
salvation He offers. (MAYER, 1976) In this analysis I will explain how O conner uses the two

The Grandmother displays the proper image of a southern Christian woman in the presence of
other people. Her clothing, her perfection, and her attitude are perceived as truly religious. In
reality, the grandmother is exceedingly selfish and corrupt morally. She preaches and gives
sermons throughout the story yet in the face of danger she thinks only of herself. O Conner
writes ...the grandmother had on a navy blue straw sailor hat with a bunch of white violets on
the brim and a navy blue dress with a small white dot in the print. Her collar and cuffs were white
organdy trimmed with lace, and at her neckline, she pinned a purple spray of cloth violets
containing a sachet. In case of an accident, anyone seeing her dead on the highway would know
at once that she was a lady (O Conner, 2007). She is obviously over dressed for a road trip, again
it pin points the grandmother s obsession with materials. Grandmother uses gender roles, you
wouldn t shoot a lady would you, (O Conner, 2007) and religious images to try to save herself.
She preaches and prays to the Misfit as if he is Jesus, Jesus...you ve got good blood, Jesus you
ought not to shoot a lady (O Conner, 2007). She radiates an aura of holiness at the same time
sounding self serving. Towards the end of the story the characters seemed to realize their upcoming

Perfume Analysis Of Perfume
Perfume, by Suskind conforms to conventional standards of the horror genre. The author takes
advantage of this conformity by making Grenouille into the typical horror genre killer or monster to
produce a story with a chilling and dark atmosphere. The author effectively uses both
characterization and stylistic features to develop and shape Grenouille s character into such monster.
According to horror conventions a story must have a monster, whether it be a serial killer or
supernatural entity There is usually an element involving death. For example, a murderer, a ghostly
presence. (Crouse 4). Grenouille s character can fit into the former of these two categories as a
murder. Throughout the book he develops into a monster by taking several lives in many
different settings. For instance his first kill involves the remorseless strangulation of a young
girl in Paris She was so frozen with terror at the sight of him that he had plenty of time to put his
hands on her throat...keeping his eyes closed tight as he strangled her...When she laid dead he
laid her on the ground. (suskind 42 43). Notice the description of Grenouille s first murder and the
language the author uses to describe the agony the victim feels compared to the feelings of the
main character. The victim is frozen in terror while Grenouille has plenty of time to put his hand
on her throat. the victim dies she laid dead and the way he handles the body laid her on the ground.

Currently Boston has about 28,400 low income households who need a home that is affordable to

year that would go toward affordable housing. We have to be able to get families out of danger and
into safety by getting them into their own homes but the sooner the better.

A Brief Note On Unemployment And Unemployment Rate
There are three major types of unemployment, including frictional unemployment, structural
unemployment and cyclical unemployment. Frictional unemployment is the short term
unemployment arising from matching workers with jobs. Structural unemployment is because of
more people are seeking for jobs in a particular labor market than there are jobs available at the
current wage rate. Cyclical unemployment is due to the business cycle. When an economy goes
into a recession, demand for most goods and services decline, and so firms do not require as much
labor to produce it. Although some unemployment is normal and even in the booming economics,
zero unemployment is not feasible, the government need to take every efforts to reduce the
unemployment rate. As there are different types of unemployment, different policy measures are
required to reduce the unemployment rate.
In order to reduce unemployment rate, the most important thing is find the resolve to stimulate
aggregate demand. When there is in the booming economics, more jobs are available. Which means
greater growth invites higher levels of employment.
Frictional unemployment is mainly caused by information asymmetry. In labour market, the
information cannot spread between employers and employees symmetrically and effectively. To
reduce frictional unemployment, the time of seeking job must be shorten. The government should
make the market information quickly and effectively. What is more, the economy change makes

Causes Of The Arab Malaise
4. Samir Kassir describes Arabs perpetual sense of malaise, or despair, and argues that it is
possible for the Arab states to become secular democracies and adopt the principles of equality
and justice. This is characterized by, chronic rates of illiteracy, inordinate disparities between rich
and poor, overpopulation of cities and desertification of land . Some of the causes of the Arab
Malaise is the gaze of the western other, feelings of being left behind, sense of powerlessness and
geography.
The gaze of the western other, is a condescending gaze that reaffirms the inferiority of Muslim
societies, preventing everything even escape and inability to overcome insurmountable condition,
(Kassir). Further, Arab Malaise is worsened by the fact that Arab societies used to be comparable
to East Asian, Latin American and Sub Saharan African states. However, to Arabs, that is no
longer the case with all states except for the Arab societies moving toward democratic and
technologically advanced societies. The third cause of Arab Malaise is the sense of powerless to
act and affirm existence in face of other s domination that Arabs feel. This sense of powerlessness
was reinforced by Iraq US intervention where Arab community was unable to fight against
American intervention. Also, when Israel was established in Palestinian territory, the Palestinians
could not fight back because of the strong American unfailing support of Israel, making Israel
capable of literally do anything it wants, (Kassir, 8). Geography was also an important factor in
creating malaise. The Arab world is situated between two continents and has its own sense of
tradition, and identity, however, Arabs are constantly reminded of colonial powers and presence
on their territory today through the presence of Israel. The defeat against Israel in 1948 (Nakba)
was a great humiliation and blow to the Arabs because it signified that colonial rule was to be
perpetually present in the Arab World for centuries to come. Finally, the existence of oil in the
region is a source of instability and malaise. The oil attracts western powers and increasing West
involvements leading the new hegemony of the United States in the Middle East (Kassir, 76).

Pros And Cons Of Ancient Greece Dbq Essay
Ancient Greece DBQ: Marissa Ames From the struggles the people who lived in Ancient Greece
had to face to the positives, geography has always had a great influence on Greece and how the
people there survived. Two big positives being the climate which was perfect for growing valuable
olive trees and another positive being the seas that surrounded Greeceand allowed the Greeks to
trade and help them in many other ways. Two big negatives being the rocky, mountainous terrain
and another negative being the common volcano eruptions and earthquakes. Although Ancient
Greecehad its negatives so does every country and it were these pros and cons that helped the
Greeks develop essential survival skills. One example, of a positive of the geography of Ancient
Greece was the hot, dry climate that as stated in Document 4 was perfect for growing olive trees.

They also tend to be impulsive and deceitful, as well as having a lack of remorse for their own
actions. The movie Gone Girl portrays Antisocial Personality Disorder very well, although Amy
was never actually diagnosed. Throughout the movie, Amy does many things that show a lack
of remorse, mainly when she tries to frame Nick for a murder that never happened. She went to
many extremes to set up a fake murder scene, including taking a lot of her own blood and then
pouring it on the floor of the kitchen. She then proceeded to throw a little on the wall above the
stove to make it look like a messy clean up job, the way someone like Nick would do. Amy even
went as far as to have written a minimum of 300 journal entries about Nick, how he was abusive,
and that she was scared he was going to kill her. She also befriended their one neighbor, Noelle,
and told her all about Nick s abuse so she would have someone to back up her story. Noelle was
also pregnant, so Amy broke her own toilet so she could steal the Noelle s pee and take it to the
doctor so it would become a medical fact that Amy was pregnant when Nick supposedly killed
her. This would give Nick a motive because one of the many things Amy had written about was
that Nick never wanted kids, even though the reality was that Nick did want kids, but Amy did
not. Throughout the movie, Amy is also very deceitful. She gets Noelle to actually believe her
lies, and also believe she genuinely wanted to be friends. Amy even went back to Desi, her
obsessive ex boyfriend that she claims even tried to kill himself because they broke up. She
tricked Desi into believing that her staging her own murder was somehow okay, and he also

individuals seek for in their relationships with another person. The study was completed online
that consisted of questions that ranged from personality questions that included one s gender,
personality background, romantic and sexual partners, drug and alcohol use, and sexually

an individual is single or in a relationship. For instance, if someone was single, in a relationship,
engaged, or married etc. Based on answering that question, the upcoming questions would have
changed to other directions dependent on the answers. The importance of answering the
questions correctly played a role in the follow up questions because it allows the user doing the
study to pick what the user is looking for. For example, I selected I am single and questions
indicated if I use geo social apps to meet people. When someone selected single, the survey began
to dive into what the person wanted in a relationship. The questions contained many different

Gerrymandering In The American Political System
There are obvious flaws in the American political system. However, gerrymandering, which has
been undermining American democracy since the nation s birth, has remained widely unknown.
Gerrymandering, which occurs across the United States, is used by Democrats and Republicans to
maximize the number of congressional seats they capture. Every ten years, the government
conducts a census. Following the census, state legislatures redraw congressional districts to reflect
population changes. However, state legislatures are often controlled by a single political party that

In 1842, Congress passed the Apportionment Act, which required congressional districts to be

political gains is unconstitutional ( Davis v. Bandemer ). However, the Supreme Court left
unanswered one pivotal question: What are the standards for identifying and litigating a
gerrymander? (Hess, 209). Although it is illegal, without a clear national standard for addressing
gerrymandering, state legislatures get away with it in federal courts by exploiting the legal
ambiguity surrounding the practice. Therefore, taking the power to redistrict away from state
legislatures in the first place is the most viable

A High-Voltage Compliant Microelectrode Array Driver for...
2.5
High voltage switching
A fundamental component of this microelectrode driver is a high voltage switch and it is
necessary to characterize the implemented switch for different stimulation current levels. An
analog CMOS switch can be an n type or p type MOSFET which is operated either in cut off (OFF
state) or ohmic region
(ON state). The switch can be characterized by a fixed linear transconductance, gds , which is
strongly signal dependent and expressed according to Eq. 8 [37] where, Ојn and Ојp are electron
and hole mobility respectively in two types of transistors, Cox is the gate oxide capacitance, W n
and W p are the dimensions of transistors, VDD is the power supply
L
L voltage, and Vin is the input signal. The bulk of NMOS and PMOS transistors are connected to
the highest potential, VDD and the lowest potential, VSS respectively. The limitations are that the
maximum voltage an NMOS and the minimum voltage a PMOS can pass are [VDD в€’ Vthn ] and
|Vthp | respectively.
This drawback can be overcome using CMOS transmission gate (TG) which exhibits lower
overall transconductance. Another advantage of using TG based switch is that it passes good 1
(or logic level high) and good 0 (logic level low) without any threshold voltage drop, or in other
words, TG gate switch allows rail to rail swings. The transconductance of TG gate switch is
expressed by the following equation: The on resistance RsON of the switch is the reciprocal of its
transconductance, gdsON and given by

We are entering an age where women are gaining more ground in our power and respect in the
work force, society, and over own bodies. A person s body belongs to themselves and no law
juristic what they do with it. Abortion should be left up to the decision of the women who carries
the fetus. Keeping abortionlegal provides women a safer way for removing the fetusfrom her womb.
Illegalizing abortion does not end the mean of abortion: it means the end of safer abortions.
Prostitution is illegal, yet many people still silicate it. Stealing is illegal, yet there are a handful of
people who steal. Laws mean nothing to a person is in a desperate need to obtain something in

What if the parent was raped and having the child may be traumatic. With the advancements in
medical technology, doctors can detect earlier signs birth defects with fetal screening. Would it be
fair for the child that you allowed them to suffer if health conditions are such that it would affect
their quality of life or leave them in a great deal of pain? I find that to be selfish.
Denying women control over their own bodies is prejudiced and creates significant social
problems. Women to this day are fighting to win political and economic equality. How can we
say we accomplished anything when we do not have a say in our reproduction rights? To be able
to choose a safe, legal abortion makes many other options possible. Illegalizing abortion is
counterproductive in women s fight for social equality.
The issue of abortion is based on moral opinions rather than social, economic, and political facts.
Morals can only go so long before they become contradicting. One cannot be opposed to
abortion, yet support a war or the death penalty. Abortion should be looked through the person s
eyes of who is carrying the fetus. Some women and girls are not ready to be mothers. Some
women and girls are not meant to be mothers. At the end of the day, abortion is not harming
anyone. Some one right now is receiving an abortion in a legal, safe clinic, and the world is still
revolving. Choice means freedom; the control over one s life. No man

Why All Police Officers Should Carry Tasers
In this day and age self protection is always a key concern for many people. The fear of crime
and even the people who commit crime, there is always a chance that you could get robbed, caught
up in physical altercation, or even happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. People in
general approach these situations differently and prepare for these situations in different ways.
Smart people normally avoid putting themselves in situations like these by just avoiding problem
areas thus eliminating as much trouble as they possibly can. However, police officers put their lives

I feel the answer is yes and here s why. Much of these reasons are based on my own experiences
working as a federal law enforcement official with the United States Coast Guard overseas and
on the home front. All police should have effective methods to divert to when criminals are
hazardous or uncooperative. Usually police officers carry pepper spray, batons, and a firearm. In
many cases the baton is seen as brutal or violent method to get suspect to cooperate simply by
beating them. Then there is pepper spray which I have had personally shot in my face with. The
pain caused by pepper spray is intense ... [and causes] an involuntary closing of the eyes, a gagging
reflex, and temporary paralysis of the larynx (Wu, 371). It is very effective but on the flip side if a
officer sprays pepper spray the odds that some of the spray gets on the officer is also very likely
causing discomfort and possibly impairing the officer for seeing properly if it blows back in his
eyes. Also, pepper spray sometimes has no effect on people under the influence of drugs. Third,
there are firearms and let s face it if a gun is involved odds are very high that someone ends up
dead and that s never a good thing. I

Richard Wright and William Faulkner both examine the psychologies of excluded members of
society. While in Native Son, Wright studies someone oppressed and downtrodden beneath society,
Faulkner looks at a family of outsiders cast far away from a common community in As I Lay Dying.
For both, a central question becomes the function of their characters minds in relation to one
another, and to reality. Through different approaches, both Wright and Faulkner conduct modernist
explorations of the social outcast s interiority. To accomplish this, each author s narrativevoice
traverses the gradient from realism to experimental fragmentation, Wright constructing a vertical

This gap between what Bigger understands about himself and what the narrative voice can
comprehend creates dramatic irony, especially when Bigger is confronted with Jan and Mary s
inexplicably friendly behavior. Wright s descriptions of Jan and Mary make their good
intentions clear to all but Bigger, and therefore sets up an unequal relationship between Bigger
and the reader. He is now at the mercy not only of his own impulses, his employer s wishes, and
the law of white society, but also of Wright and his audience. The vertical consciousness that
allows us to see so clearly what Bigger cannot, supports the deterministic trap that Wright has set
for him. His environment has saddled him with unsatisfied urges, and now Wright has made
him the victim of chance. In Mary s claim that she wants to see how black people live in
Chicago, Bigger experiences the deep sense of exclusion that Wright describes in How Bigger
Was Born (518). Then, in seeing Mary s white robed mother at her bedroom door, he encounters
the corresponding feeling of looking at things with a painful and unwarrantable nakedness, the
understanding of his total vulnerability, which forces him to kill Mary (518). His fate is sealed.
With this dramatic irony, produced by a kind of vertical consciousness, Wright has proven to what
extent the black man s agency, his interiority, is warped by external forces and placed in

Nevermind Analysis
Nirvana Nevermind
This album review will be on Nirvana s Nevermind album that was released in 1991. This was
Nirvana s second album released and it sold over 30 million copies. I was interested in Nirvana
once I saw it was an option in the book and also because almost everyday you can see someone in
the streets wearing a Nirvana t shirt even people my age and I was curious to listen to their music.
As I said before people my age are still wearing Nirvana shirts which truly demonstrates how
impactful their music was to society.
To begin with, I enjoyed the album because I got to explore and analyze a genre of music I usually
do not listen to. The album honestly expressed true emotions through their words and overall
sounds. The songs were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The band have a very simple line of instruments that impacted a great amount of the generation.
The songs in my opinion told a story about a teenager s life or someone dealing with issues.
Especially since the first song titled Smells Like Teen Spirit and the beginning lyrics being, Load

Oh no, I know a dirty word . When they state Load up on guns, bring your friends I think of a

due to the fact of how I can barely comprehend what is being said in the song. Obviously one of
their main hits Smells Like Teen Spirit is placed at beginning of the album to get their fans
hyped for the rest of album. The rest of the songs flowed right into place. First of all, the album
in my opinion exists to bring life to the youth and to have their voices heard. This album can also
exist due to the controversy of the album cover art with the naked baby swimming after a dollar
bill. People have theorized that it was the band s way to get attention or the baby was seen as
symbolism for greed. Another theory is the impact of money and how it can hurt innocence or
society overall. The band never came out with a statement about the album cover which in all
honestly is great because it leaves the floor open to

Moses Is A Hero s Journey Essay
There must be a strange feeling Moses experiences and I m sure he probably did feel inadequate
to this great task. Many of us would have questioned God in his choice. Look at Moses as he
says that, they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my voice: for they will say, The LORD hath
not appeared unto thee. Does this sound like something you may of been through, I have and I m
sure you may of you felt the same way also? Mosesis like many of us, caught in our feelings and
emotions and leaning on them in a critical time in our life.
Exodus. 4:1 4 God proves something to Moses on that day as he said unto him, what is that in
thine hand? And he said, A rod. And he said, Cast or throw it on the ground. And he threw it on the

And he put forth his hand, and caught it, and it became a rod in his hand. This must be mined
blowing to say the least. Are you at this place mentality yet for a supernatural miracle?
The great thing is that Moses like many of us, needed a faith builder. We the Prophets of God, in
this generation are like our prophetic forefathers, we have our faith built by our afflictions and
life drama and we see that God proves himself in our lives daily. Prophets, God is still asking each
one of us this same question, What is in our hands? What will it take to make you believe that I m
your God the source of the supernatural?
Prophets, yes, we have the talents, the abilities, and even if we have material possessions, with a
limited knowledge of the Truth, please remember this. All things, that God has put in our hands
have been sanctified with the rod of God s authority through the begetting of the Holy Spirit.
This is a life changing principle and we need to embrace. This is something I highly encourage
you to never forget. Yes, it is life changing and supernatural. We may feel inadequate at times,
and so unworthy of this honor, just as the great Moses did. We know that in our own selves we
come far short of his glory, but this worked for Moses and will work for you and me. Let us begin
today to embrace it, right

Escher and His Use of “Metaphor”-phosis Essays
Escher and His Use of Metaphor phosis
The driving force behind life is the constant process of change. We see the process of
metamorphosis on all levels. We see days turn into nights, babies grow into adults, caterpillars
morph into butterflies, and on an even grander scale, the biological evolution of species. The
process of metamorphosis connects two completely diverse entities, serving as a bridge between
the two. Day and night are connected by evening, the slow sinking of the sun in the sky. In a
typical life cycle, birth and death are bridged by various life stages, including infancy, childhood,
adolescence, adulthood, and finally old age. Black can be morph into white through a series of

Escher gladly did so, as he had only taken up architecture to please his father. Escher studied
under Jessurum de Mesquita from 1919 until 1922. After he had concluded his studies, he
traveled extensively, mostly in Italy. Escher took up residence in Rome from the early twenties
until the mid thirties. While residing there, he made it a tradition to make a journey to the
Italian countryside every spring. He traveled long distances on foot in many areas of southern
Italy that were not popular for travel at the time. During these explorations, Escher made
drawings of whatever interested him, mainly the Italian countryside and the architecture, which
fascinated him to draw. During the winters, he would convert the drawings and rough sketches
into woodprints. In 1935, the rise of Fascism caused Escher to leave Italy and move to
Switzerland. A year later, he made the last of his long study trips, this time on an ocean freighter
along the coast of Italy to Spain. On this trip, he encountered several prints created in Spain in
the Middle Ages that held a special interest for him and later inspired many of his tessellation
pieces. In 1937, Escher moved to a small town near Brussels, returned to Brussels in 1941, and
moved a final time in 1970, to Laren, located in the Netherlands. After 1937, Escher traveled a
great deal less frequently, leaving home only for vacations, to visit his children living abroad, or on
lecture circuits. His

Intercultural Abilities Nurses Should Have
There is an increasing number of diverse cultures within the health care system. Therefore, nurses in
general, or any healthcare professionals not only need to know how to care of patients from their
culture, but they also must be able to care of patients from other cultures with different health
beliefs, values, and practices. Cultural views of individuals influence their perceptions and
decisions of healthattitudes and health cares; in order to care for people across different languages
and cultures, nurses need to develop cultural sensitivity, awareness, competence, and humility
(Creasia Parker, 2007). Among these, cultural competent and humility are the foundation to provide
optimal quality care within diverse groups of people.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

acknowledge the key role that culture plays to influence behavior in patients. Therefore, I haven t
let any cultural barrier limit my ability to meet the needs of my patients or reduce their
opportunities to benefit from services that I can provide. Language difference is a challenge to both
paitiens and nurses in communicating about health beliefs, values, descriptions of symptoms (Polan
Taylor, 2011). Therefore, patiens can become frustrated, or are unable to comply with treatment if
they do not understand. In addition, patients were more likely to ask more questions and will have
better understanding with nurses who also speak the same language as theirs (Polan Taylor, 2011).
In order to enhance my communication with non English speaking patients, I usually use language
line service or interpreters. All written translators such as consent forms, patient educations and
instructions are printed in languages appropriate with the patient s if they are available. For
example, when ill or injured, Hispanic people frequently consult with other family members and
often ask them to come along to medical or hospital visits. Hispanic families are more likely to be
involved in the treatment and decision making process. Patients may not the

The Alchemist By Paulo Coelho Analysis
Robert Frost, an American poet, wrote in his poem, The Road Not Taken, Two roads diverged in
a wood, and I I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. Santiago of
Paulo Coelho s The Alchemist has that split road, two decisions: one that is unpredictable and
one that is safe. If he makes the safe and popular choice, he knows he will regret it and always
wonder what would have happened. If he makes the unpredictable choice, the one that is chosen
less, he will follow his heart, and find his treasure. Santiago decides, and is following his heart
through his journey to the Pyramids to find his treasure. In the novel, The Alchemist, by Paulo
Coelho, Santiago learns, Remember where your heart is, there you will find your treasure. First,
Santiago learns a valuable lesson about selfawareness. Next, Santiago understands a new feeling he
is experiencing. Last, Santiago unexpectedly learns a new truth about his treasure.
To begin, Santiago learns a valuable lesson about self awareness. For example, while Santiago is
talking to King Melchizedek, he tells Santiago a story of a wise man who gave a spoon with oil
to a boy, and told him to walk around the palace. The boy does, but does not see any of the
wonderful things around him, yet when he looks at those things, he drops the oil, Santiago learns
the lesson from the story: The secret of happiness is to see all of the marvels of the world, and
never to forget the drops of oil in the spoon (35).

Labels distinguish individuals in everyday life; if 2000 people from across the world were
randomly selected and put into categories of hair colour, none of them would share exactly the
same shade of colour. Despite this continuity humans still continue to assign each other to discrete
hair colour categories such as blonde or brown which have no basis in biology but still go on to
determine how that person is thought of in society. The American PsychologyAssociation (APA)
provides guidelines for researchers to follow in both research and writing scientifically in order to

Boroditsky, Wade, Wu, Frank, Witthoft and Winawer (2007) established the importance of
precision in labels by studying the difference in response between English and Russian speakers
in distinguishing similar but subtle different shades of blue. In Russian there are many words for
blue as they divide the spectrum into lighter blues goulboy and darker blues siniy but in English
there is only one single word for the colour blue. Due to this difference the Russian speakers were
quicker to distinguish between the colours as they had readily available labels unlike the English
speakers.
Labels have the ability to control more then just conscious perception but they can also change
how we perceive more complex things like people subconsciously. Jennifer Eberhardt (2003)
showed white college students pictures of a man who was racially ambiguous. For half of the
students the face was described as white and for the other half he was described as black . In one
task the experimenter asked the students to spend four minutes drawing the face while it was on
the screen in front of them. Although all the students were looking at the same face, those who
were told that the face belonged to a specific race tended to draw the face with typical stereotype
features associated with that race. This demonstrated that the students were unable to identify the
subject as a individual after the label of his race was assigned to him.

The Illegal Steroid Use in The Major League Baseball
The purpose in constructing this report is to take a look and study the illegal steroid use in Major
League Baseball, and possible ways it can be exempt from the game forever. Use of performance
enhancing drugs is cheating and causes inequalities, in which new repercussions should be
implemented. These new rules should include a zero tolerance level, records stripped and not being
rewarded of their accomplishments; which is to include banishment from an admittance into the
Hall of Fame. Furthermore, it causes major health concerns and could end a player s career, along
with mitigating health problems down the road. The total elimination of steroids in MLB (Major

In 2003, David Boomer Wells claimed that up to 40% of major leaguers used steroids, and then
in 2005, Jose Canseco addressed the media with stating that 80% of major leaguers had taken
steroids, and have credited the drug for their entire career (Gilman, 2013, p.2). So the facts are
there, players are using and abusing to cheat their way into the HOF (Hall of Fame). The one
time strike is followed without pay, because the player will not completely process the magnitude
of what he did was wrong. This solution would hold true to the integrity of the game and keep the
playing field fair across the board. For the fair players this zero tolerance level is a godsend.
Records Stripped
Players that are breaking records and accomplishing tasks a normal man cannot amount to without
the use of performance enhanced drugs, should not be applauded for. Athletes who use and test
positive for steroids will be banished from baseball s record books and will be ineligible to enter
the Hall of Fame. Players value their status as one of the greatest and are honored to be
accounted for in the record books, and if none of that is recorded then what would be the use of
cheating. It would be as if the player never participated or even played the game (Abramson, 2014,
p.2). Mark Maguire, a front runner currently awaiting his election into the Hall of Fame, has been

  • 2. Critical Analysis Of Watership Down Watership Down Literary Analysis Good leaders ensure the world continues to advance. In contrast, bad leaders allow cruelty to spread and are often over controlling, taking away the freedom of their people. Richard Adams s Watership Down is a story about rabbits trying to establish a warren, a society. Hazel, the main character of the book, has been informed that his warren is in danger. He leads a group of rabbits to try and start a new warren in a better environment, away from peril. While trying to find this location, Hazel and his rabbits stumble upon another warren, Efrafa. The secretive warren is led by a fierce rabbit, General Woundwort. Though Hazel and General Woundwort are both leaders, they lead in two distinct ways. Hazel and General Woundwort are drastically different leaders because they take power in contrasting ways, have incongruent methods of leadership, and view their role as leader differently. Hazel and General Woundwort are contrastive leaders because they acquire power differently. Hazel assumes power through respect. He earns the respect of the rabbits in his warren, lending them to establish Hazel as leader. The respect of the warren is earned when Hazel leads the rabbits across the common, even while they are all exhausted. The rabbits are so impressed, Blackberry says Oh, Hazel...you re what I call a Chief Rabbit! (57). The Chief Rabbit is the leader of the warren. This title often belongs to the strongest of the rabbits, but Hazel is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Zodiac Essay The Monster Within In Zodiac written by Robert Graysmith he says, Just because you can not prove it does not mean it is not true. This was completely accurate and was disheartening for David Toschi, the primary detective on the case because he could not uncover concrete evidence to convict Arthur Leigh Lee Allen. Lee was the number one suspect in the investigation and all signs pointed to him being the Zodiac, which was the main similarity between the publication and motion picture. In addition, the text contained two prime suspects but the feature film only fixated on one. Graysmith later went to say, The film ends by hinting that Zodiac may be the man behind you in the theatre (Zodiac). He was articulating how they should be vigilant at all times because Zodiac could be the person juxtapose to them and never know it. People may look ordinary but in reality, everybody is insane, some just suppress it better than others. Zodiac written by Graysmith had several similarities with the motion picture directed by David Fincher but the main similarity was the accusation of Arthur Leigh Allen being Zodiac. They focused mainly on Lee being the main suspect considering all signs pointed to him even though law enforcement officers did not have sufficient evidence to validate it. Zodiac allegedly murdered 37 civilians although only seven were substantiated to be Zodiac with two survivors: Mike Mageau and Bryan Hartnell. However, the cinema and publication both invoked ... • 4. The Importance of Reducing Detrimental Vehicle Emissions... If greenhouse gases were nonexistent, the Earth s atmosphere would be 33 degrees Celsius colder than it is currently. Throughout the past century, the entire Earth has increased in temperature by nearly .5 degrees Celsius. (Hopwood and Cohen) One contributor to this problem is vehicle fuel emissions. These emissions are seriously affecting the health of humans. As a result, scientists are working on alternate fuel vehicles and zero emission vehicles. There are many pollutants that are emitted from a regular vehicle today. According to one website, these pollutants include carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, oxides of nitrogen, particulate matter, ozone, and oxides of sulfur. One may not know that lead was previously in U.S. gasoline ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Scientists say that 55% of man made NOx emissions come from the average motor vehicle. ( Alternative ) Particulate matter (PM) aggravates asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, heart disease, and lung disease. PM is a carrier of many toxic compounds and contributes to haze. On top of that, it pollutes fresh and coastal waters, and contaminates farmland. PM is emitted mainly from diesel vehicles and is formed from reactions between nitrous oxides and sulfur oxides. ( Alternative ) Ozone (O3), also referred to as smog, is a strong oxidant that reduces lung function, intensify asthma, increase chances for respiratory illness, and lead to permanent lung damage. Also, it may damage plant life. O3, not being a direct vehicle emission, is produced by reactions of nitrous oxides and atmospheric air in the presence of sunlight. The formation of O3 generally occurs more often in urban areas rather than rural. ( Alternative ) Oxides of sulfur (SOx) can cause respiratory illness, heart disease, and lung disease. It causes PM to form, and is a primary cause of acid rain. Most vehicle emissions studies exclude SOx from the list due to the fact that it is emitted at such a small quantity compared to the total amount of emissions given off by regular human activity. Recently in 2006, diesel fuels SOx content was lowered, even further than it previously was after the first SOx reduce, making it a ultra low sulfur diesel (ULSD). Although it is not a ... • 5. My Personal Strengths and Weaknesses in Netball Essay From observing myself in a game situation these are what I consider are my strengths and weaknesses for Netball and why I think each one is a strength or weakness. Strengths Weaknesses Shooting Shoulder Pass Bounce Pass Chest Pass Pivoting Footwork High running Pass Reaction Time Agility Speed Strengths: Strength 1: Shooting is one of my strengths as I think I perform it correctly. By correctly I mean having a balanced position (standing with my feet shoulder width apart and keeping my body straight), holding the ball above my head (so that the ball is resting on the tips of my fingers and my thumbs form a W shape), bending my knees as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It s a high pass and should enable you to speed up the game. This pass requires lots of power to make it travel faster; if it s slow and loopy a defender could intercept it. For me the power comes from behind the ball. I spread my fingers around the ball, bend my arms and try to keep my elbows close to my body. I then lift the ball above my right shoulder (as I m right handed) and let it drop back slightly. This gives me extra power when I go to release the ball. To make it go through the air faster I put one foot forward, this also helps me to lean into the pass. I think when you throw a shoulder pass it s best to aim for your team mates head and chest (this will make it easier for them to catch the ball). In my opinion to master a shoulder pass you have to follow the directions above
  • 6. and finally when you release the ball I think you should follow through the pass (basically stretching out your arms and fingertips after releasing the ball. Strength 3: The bounce pass is a strength of mine and I think it s a really good pass to be good at. You use it for short distances and I ve noticed from observing myself that it works well when you find defenders are closing in on you and you need to act quickly. It s the best short distance pass to use when players like the Centre and Wing Attack need to pass the ball into the semi circle to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Cafe Monte Bianco CafГ© Monte Bianco To analyze this case, the analyst conducted liquidity, solvency and profitability ratios for CafГ©s Monte Bianco along with sales and income projections for operating the business under both private label and premium brands. The analyst has found that the firm utilizes high leverage to achieve ROE. Further, it is the opinion of the analyst that the firm should abandon private label brands and market its own premium brand; thereby leveraging its industry reputation as a fine purveyor of coffees. CafГ©s Monte Bianco Liquidity Analysis: The current ratio is 0.57 and the quick ratio is 0.41. This is due to higher liabilities and is an indicator of poor liquidity. The Inventory turnover ratio is a healthy 13.83, which means ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since an ROE of 21.48% equals the product of 4.41% and 4.87 (ROA and Equity Multiplier), it indicates that the firm is able to achieve such high ROE only through a high financial leverage. Strategic Action for Cafes Monte Bianco: Assuming that they will be able to sell all produced capacity, with 0% advertising, and with a 6,000,000 kg annual capacity [Exhibit 2 in case], CMB should be able to generate revenues of 178,322,200,000 liras (Scenario 2). With resulting COGS of 114,954,330,000 liras and other expenses, they should still be able to generate a Net Income of 28,732,818,000 liras. Alternatively, if the company spent the equivalent of 10% of sales on advertising, revenues will increase to 215.62 billion lira, and net profit to 25 billion lira. So the company may be better off not advertising, at 0% (Scenario 3). Pursuing Dino s Production Plan for only Private Brand (Scenario 1) will result in annual revenues of just 52.8 billion liras, COGS of 42.91 billion liras and even with reduced advertising and selling expenses, a resulting net loss of 1,138,659,000 liras, before taxes. This is clearly not a viable strategy. Since the firm utilized only 39.13% of installed plant capacity in year 2000, they clearly need to increase revenues and profit margins by pursuing their own premium brand, instead of pursuing private label brands with higher volumes, but much lower profit margins, and an ... The next day there was a miracle, the Queen was going to have a baby but the Queen was too ill to have the baby. The King was worried that his wife will pass so will the baby if he don t do something about it. The King ordered the maids to watch over his wife while he looked for a cure for her illness in the kingdom. He got a group of soldiers that same day to find a cure for his wife to get better. All the soldiers and himself went looking all over the kingdom for a special plant that can heal anything or anyone. • 10. A Research Study On Genetic Engineering Genetic engineering is using molecular biology methods to modify the genetic information of an organism. Its aims include learning about the biology of an organism and generating new or improved commercial products. Plant biotechnology is manipulating plants specifically to improve agricultural needs. GMOs or genetically modified organisms are organisms modified by genetic engineering to express desirable traits. DNAfragments containing said desirable traits and a means of introducing the DNA to the host plants is required for genetic engineering. Some common methods of introducing DNA fragments to plants include the use of viruses, chemicals, some means of physical insertion, or the use of agrobacterium. Mysore et al aimed to study the mechanism of Agrobacterium transformation, DNA transfer, and the possible limits of genetic engineering. A complementation test of rat5 mutant and Histone H2A (RAT5) showed rat5 mutant is responsible for the mutant phenotype. Transient and stable ОІ glucuronidase expression and T DNA levels of wild type and rat5 Arabidopsis plants showed that the rat5 mutant is deficient in T DNA integration. The researchers also thought rat5 could be haploinsufficient and to test this hypothesis they transformed wild type plants with A. tumefaciens GV3101(pE1553) and found the rat5 mutant does not show dominance in WT plants.1 So, two copies of RAT5 geneare necessary to conduct Agrobacterium mediated transformation. • 11. Edgar Allan Poe s Leathery Streaks of shimmering sunlight filtered through a golden canopy of trees, casting elegant shadows to dance across the mossy verdure. The lush grass was invested with thriving insects that swarmed on the ground like an overcrowded marketplace. The crickets made a harmonious song that echoed throughout the forest, almost in sync with the repetitive calls of exotic animals that were crawling through shrubbery and soaring high in the leafy giants. Leathery leaves brushed against each other in the feeble breeze, almost as if they were whispering in hushed tones whilst squirrels ran and frolicked in the bushes. A balmy smell lingered in the humid air, mixing with the scent of damp earth. Flowers were dotted across the luscious forest floor; their enticing fragrance leaving an odd taste in their wake. Vines twisted up the trees, reaching magnificent heights though some hung down like curtains, hiding parts of the forest away in darkness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Soon enough, water was cascading from the heavens in a torrent of rain, teaming up with the howl of wind that weaved through the clattering oaks. • 12. Easter Island Collapse Essay ABSTRACT Easter Island, also known by the indigenous name Rapa Nui, is a remote island in the south Pacific Ocean located over 2000 miles off the coast of Chile and over 1250 miles from the nearest Polynesian island. Easter Island is best known for the hundreds of statues scattered across the island, largely because the question of how exactly these statues got to where they rest has stirred the minds of many theorists since the island s discovery by the Dutch Admiral Roggeveen on Easter Sunday of 1722. This very mystery is considered a pillar in Jared Diamond s book Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed. Diamond claims that the people of Easter Island carelessly abused the trees located on the island, mainly for the purpose... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He believes that the islanders cut each tree down one by one for materialistic and impractical purposes with no consideration to consequences of their actions, and claims that we are currently doing the same thing to our planet. Could Diamond be right? Could the story of Easter Island truly be considered a parable in respect to our need for oil and other natural resources? The purpose of this research paper is to take a consequentialist approach to explore the ethical claims Diamond makes of environmental irresponsibility on Easter Island and its unique case of deforestation. I hold that Diamond s claim of Easter Island s self induced environmental degradation is wholly misleading as a parable for our planet s current path toward environmental sustainability. Rather, I will show that the past inhabitants of this small island were, in fact, environmental stewards, and that they overcame challenges that were brought on by causes that were completely out of their control. Furthermore, I will explain how Diamond s claim that Easter Island being a fair comparison is very misleading in regards to our current environmental situation, as the occurrences on Easter Island are far different than what put our planet in the environmental challenges we are currently ... • 13. How Marketing Can Be Defined As A Managerial And Social... Marketing can be defined as a managerial and social process whereby groups and individuals obtain what they need or desire through the creation of a product, offering it and exchanging the product of value with others. Some of the marketing concepts include needs, wants, and demand; products; cost, value, and satisfaction; transactions and exchanges; networks and relationships; markets; marketers and prospects. A need is a state by which basic satisfaction is deprived. A need is usually a biological concept that is not created by the marketer. Examples of needs are thirst, safety, shelter, food and clothing. Wants, on the other hand, can be defined as the desire for a particular satisfaction of need that is considered to be another level of need. An example of a want is when an individual is in need of food; he would want the food to be prepared in a particular way and would want the food to be fish or chicken. Demand, on the other hand, is a want of a particular product backed by the ability as well as willingness to buy the product. A product can be defined as goods and services that bring forth the satisfaction to human needs, wants and value. Cost satisfaction, on the other hand, is defined as the consumer estimates and the capacity of the product to satisfy another need. For one to get the value of something then there must be something that he is able to give up the opportunity cost. Different products cost differently depending on the level of satisfaction perceived. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This company had a policy saying that women did not have to work at night because the company was located in a high crime area. The male employees had to work the night shifts for the company, while the women employees did not. The male employee in question filed a suit under Title VII against his employer claiming sexual discrimination. The company claimed that several female employees would quit if they were forced to work at night. The company also claimed the policy was a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ). This case is interesting because BFOQ can be used as a defense to allow certain discrimination. BFOQ is an exception provided by Title VII for jobs that require a specific religion, sex, national origin, or age as a reasonable necessity for normal operations of a business. Although BFOQ applies to the fire department qualifications, the courts deemed that the company who asked only its male workers to take the night shift was could not use BFOQ as a valid defense ( Small Business ... The thicker the fog the less you can see literally but in a figurative way an author can use it to show a tough decision needing to be made by a character or an undetermined future or path. Samir Kassir describes Arabs perpetual sense of malaise, or despair, and argues that it is possible for the Arab states to become secular democracies and adopt the principles of equality and justice. This is characterized by, chronic rates of illiteracy, inordinate disparities between rich and poor, overpopulation of cities and desertification of land . Some of the causes of the Arab Malaise is the gaze of the western other, feelings of being left behind, sense of powerlessness and geography. The gaze of the western other, is a condescending gaze that reaffirms the inferiority of Muslim societies, preventing everything even escape and inability to overcome insurmountable condition, (Kassir). Further, Arab Malaise is worsened by the fact that Arab societies used to be comparable to East Asian, Latin American and Sub Saharan African states. However, to Arabs, that is no longer the case with all states except for the Arab societies moving toward democratic and technologically advanced societies. The third cause of Arab Malaise is the sense of powerless to act and affirm existence in face of other s domination that Arabs feel. This sense of powerlessness was reinforced by Iraq US intervention where Arab community was unable to fight against American intervention. Also, when Israel was established in Palestinian territory, the Palestinians could not fight back because of the strong American unfailing support of Israel, making Israel capable of literally do anything it wants, (Kassir, 8). Geography was also an important factor in creating malaise. The Arab world is situated between two continents and has its own sense of tradition, and identity, however, Arabs are constantly reminded of colonial powers and presence on their territory today through the presence of Israel. The defeat against Israel in 1948 (Nakba) was a great humiliation and blow to the Arabs because it signified that colonial rule was to be perpetually present in the Arab World for centuries to come. Finally, the existence of oil in the region is a source of instability and malaise. The oil attracts western powers and increasing West involvements leading the new hegemony of the United States in the Middle East (Kassir, 76). Arab ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. Pros And Cons Of Ancient Greece Dbq Essay Ancient Greece DBQ: Marissa Ames From the struggles the people who lived in Ancient Greece had to face to the positives, geography has always had a great influence on Greece and how the people there survived. Two big positives being the climate which was perfect for growing valuable olive trees and another positive being the seas that surrounded Greeceand allowed the Greeks to trade and help them in many other ways. Two big negatives being the rocky, mountainous terrain and another negative being the common volcano eruptions and earthquakes. Although Ancient Greecehad its negatives so does every country and it were these pros and cons that helped the Greeks develop essential survival skills. One example, of a positive of the geography of Ancient Greece was the hot, dry climate that as stated in Document 4 was perfect for growing olive trees. Olive trees were important because they were valuable, for from olive trees the Greeks could make olive oil which according to Document 4 could be used to trade for goods that were not available in Greece... Another negative of the geography of Ancient Greece was the unpredictable volcano eruptions and earthquakes. As stated in Document 3 the volcano eruptions were common because Greece is right in the middle of a very active volcanic zone where the Europe and Africa tectonic plates meet. Later, in 2014, a film adaptation was released, directed by David Fincher, bringing all the creativity left in the novel to life. Nick Dunne, a writing teacher, comes home on the day of his fifth wedding anniversary to find his wife, Amy Elliot Dunne, is nowhere to be found. After conferring with the police, Amy is officially listed as a missing person. It is later decided that Amy had been murdered due to the scene, though no body was found. They also tend to be impulsive and deceitful, as well as having a lack of remorse for their own actions. The movie Gone Girl portrays Antisocial Personality Disorder very well, although Amy was never actually diagnosed. Throughout the movie, Amy does many things that show a lack of remorse, mainly when she tries to frame Nick for a murder that never happened. She went to many extremes to set up a fake murder scene, including taking a lot of her own blood and then pouring it on the floor of the kitchen. She then proceeded to throw a little on the wall above the stove to make it look like a messy clean up job, the way someone like Nick would do. Amy even went as far as to have written a minimum of 300 journal entries about Nick, how he was abusive, and that she was scared he was going to kill her. She also befriended their one neighbor, Noelle, and told her all about Nick s abuse so she would have someone to back up her story. Noelle was also pregnant, so Amy broke her own toilet so she could steal the Noelle s pee and take it to the doctor so it would become a medical fact that Amy was pregnant when Nick supposedly killed her. This would give Nick a motive because one of the many things Amy had written about was that Nick never wanted kids, even though the reality was that Nick did want kids, but Amy did not. Throughout the movie, Amy is also very deceitful. She gets Noelle to actually believe her lies, and also believe she genuinely wanted to be friends. Amy even went back to Desi, her obsessive ex boyfriend that she claims even tried to kill himself because they broke up. She tricked Desi into believing that her staging her own murder was somehow okay, and he also believed that she genuinely missed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The overall concept of this study was to explain what individuals seek for in their relationships with another person. The study was completed online that consisted of questions that ranged from personality questions that included one s gender, personality background, romantic and sexual partners, drug and alcohol use, and sexually transmitted infections, etc. (Rogge). However, the key part of the survey was to explain whether an individual is single or in a relationship. For instance, if someone was single, in a relationship, engaged, or married etc. Based on answering that question, the upcoming questions would have changed to other directions dependent on the answers. The importance of answering the questions correctly played a role in the follow up questions because it allows the user doing the study to pick what the user is looking for. For example, I selected I am single and questions indicated if I use geo social apps to meet people. However, gerrymandering, which has been undermining American democracy since the nation s birth, has remained widely unknown. Gerrymandering, which occurs across the United States, is used by Democrats and Republicans to maximize the number of congressional seats they capture. Every ten years, the government conducts a census. Following the census, state legislatures redraw congressional districts to reflect population changes. However, state legislatures are often controlled by a single political party that unfairly redraws congressional districts in order to win more seats in the House of Representatives (Ingraham). Although the law made an initial effort to curb gerrymandering, it failed to adequately define compact. Over a century later, in the 1962 court case Baker v. Carr, the Supreme Court ruled that congressional districts must have reasonable boundaries. The court further deemed redistricting issues to be justiciable, enabling federal courts to decide gerrymandering cases ( Baker v. Carr ). It wasn t until the 1985 Davis v. Bandemer case that the Supreme Court ruled that manipulating district boundaries for political gains is unconstitutional ( Davis v. Bandemer ). However, the Supreme Court left unanswered one pivotal question: What are the standards for identifying and litigating a gerrymander? (Hess, 209). Although it is illegal, without a clear national standard for addressing gerrymandering, state legislatures get away with it in federal courts by exploiting the legal ambiguity surrounding the practice. A High-Voltage Compliant Microelectrode Array Driver for... 2.5 High voltage switching A fundamental component of this microelectrode driver is a high voltage switch and it is necessary to characterize the implemented switch for different stimulation current levels. An analog CMOS switch can be an n type or p type MOSFET which is operated either in cut off (OFF state) or ohmic region (ON state). The switch can be characterized by a fixed linear transconductance, gds , which is strongly signal dependent and expressed according to Eq. 8 [37] where, Ојn and Ојp are electron and hole mobility respectively in two types of transistors, Cox is the gate oxide capacitance, W n and W p are the dimensions of transistors, VDD is the power supply L L voltage, and Vin is the input signal. The bulk of NMOS and PMOS transistors are connected to the highest potential, VDD and the lowest potential, VSS respectively. The limitations are that the maximum voltage an NMOS and the minimum voltage a PMOS can pass are [VDD в€’ Vthn ] and |Vthp | respectively. This drawback can be overcome using CMOS transmission gate (TG) which exhibits lower overall transconductance. Another advantage of using TG based switch is that it passes good 1 (or logic level high) and good 0 (logic level low) without any threshold voltage drop, or in other words, TG gate switch allows rail to rail swings. The transconductance of TG gate switch is expressed by the following equation: The on resistance RsON of the switch is the reciprocal of its transconductance, gdsON and given by ... The boy does, but does not see any of the wonderful things around him, yet when he looks at those things, he drops the oil, Santiago learns the lesson from the story: The secret of happiness is to see all of the marvels of the world, and never to forget the drops of oil in the spoon (35). ... • 51. The American Psychology Association ( Apa ) Labels distinguish individuals in everyday life; if 2000 people from across the world were randomly selected and put into categories of hair colour, none of them would share exactly the same shade of colour. Despite this continuity humans still continue to assign each other to discrete hair colour categories such as blonde or brown which have no basis in biology but still go on to determine how that person is thought of in society. The American PsychologyAssociation (APA) provides guidelines for researchers to follow in both research and writing scientifically in order to avoid any form of labelling bias when referring to participants or groups of participants. These guidelines are in place to ensure that the participants within... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Boroditsky, Wade, Wu, Frank, Witthoft and Winawer (2007) established the importance of precision in labels by studying the difference in response between English and Russian speakers in distinguishing similar but subtle different shades of blue. In Russian there are many words for blue as they divide the spectrum into lighter blues goulboy and darker blues siniy but in English there is only one single word for the colour blue. Due to this difference the Russian speakers were quicker to distinguish between the colours as they had readily available labels unlike the English speakers. Labels have the ability to control more then just conscious perception but they can also change how we perceive more complex things like people subconsciously. Jennifer Eberhardt (2003) showed white college students pictures of a man who was racially ambiguous. For half of the students the face was described as white and for the other half he was described as black . In one task the experimenter asked the students to spend four minutes drawing the face while it was on the screen in front of them. Although all the students were looking at the same face, those who were told that the face belonged to a specific race tended to draw the face with typical stereotype features associated with that race. This demonstrated that the students were unable to identify the subject as a individual after the label of his race was assigned to him. Rosenhan (1983) provided ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. The Illegal Steroid Use in The Major League Baseball The purpose in constructing this report is to take a look and study the illegal steroid use in Major League Baseball, and possible ways it can be exempt from the game forever. Use of performance enhancing drugs is cheating and causes inequalities, in which new repercussions should be implemented. These new rules should include a zero tolerance level, records stripped and not being rewarded of their accomplishments; which is to include banishment from an admittance into the Hall of Fame. Furthermore, it causes major health concerns and could end a player s career, along with mitigating health problems down the road. The total elimination of steroids in MLB (Major League Baseball) would make the atmosphere and fans appreciate the game as it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2003, David Boomer Wells claimed that up to 40% of major leaguers used steroids, and then in 2005, Jose Canseco addressed the media with stating that 80% of major leaguers had taken steroids, and have credited the drug for their entire career (Gilman, 2013, p.2). So the facts are there, players are using and abusing to cheat their way into the HOF (Hall of Fame). The one time strike is followed without pay, because the player will not completely process the magnitude of what he did was wrong. This solution would hold true to the integrity of the game and keep the playing field fair across the board. For the fair players this zero tolerance level is a godsend. Records Stripped Players that are breaking records and accomplishing tasks a normal man cannot amount to without the use of performance enhanced drugs, should not be applauded for. Athletes who use and test positive for steroids will be banished from baseball s record books and will be ineligible to enter the Hall of Fame. Players value their status as one of the greatest and are honored to be accounted for in the record books, and if none of that is recorded then what would be the use of cheating. It would be as if the player never participated or even played the game (Abramson, 2014, p.2). Mark Maguire, a front runner currently awaiting his election into the Hall of Fame, has been ... • 53. Toowoomba Case Study 1.In January 2011, the Queensland town of Toowoomba experienced flash flooding leading to the death of several people and large damage. The flood waters surged through the city centre as an inland tsunami . Describe the cause and developments of the flash flooding event and critically review Toowoomba s urban hydraulic structures at the time of the floodevent. Use a maximum of 400 words for your answer (excluding Figures) (3 marks) Toowoomba is a city nested in the Darling Downs region of Queensland, approximately 700m above sea level (RE/MAX Success, 2018). Even though geographically blessed with a higher elevation, the city still suffers from major floods during the intense wet seasons due to swollen waterways. The main drainage system channelling flows away from the City of Toowoomba comprised mainly of the Gowrie Creek and its tributaries including East Creek, West Creek, and Black Gully, which have to handle approximate 56Km2 of catchment runoff area... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The existing detention basin built back in 2011 were too small to have meaningful mitigating effects for the storm water flowing through them due to the overly saturated catchment area during the wet season. On the other hand, there are 3 major dams that releases water into the Toowoomba system includes the Cooby, Perseverance and Cressbrook Dam. These reservoir with usual extreme low water level are designed with an undated spillway, and not operated for flood mitigation purposes (Floodcommission, 2011). However, the combined water level of the Cooby and Perseverance dams had risen to 127.2% on the 10th of January 2011, and provided some flood mitigation benefit downstream. Alas, the overflowed dam due to the continuous rainfall has led to the excess runoff down the system (Floodcommission, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
