The Negative Effects Of Mental Health In Student-Athletes
The negative impact mental health has had on student athletes is a continuous problem across the
globe and has been a topic of interest in the research world for many years. The stigma behind
mental health have lead to symptoms of depression and anxiety, reluctance to seek help, the sense
of helplessness and loneliness and many more. In a student athlete, these stress levels are brought
upon the individual for multiple reasons. For example, student athletes have to accomplish a
certain degree of success both on the playing field and in the classroom (A.P. , Deitrick, J.M. ,
Reynolds, E. (2016). Maintaining a required average and playing time can become not only
physically but mentally exhausting. This literature review will discuss the barriers and facilitators
to mental health in student athletes and how the stigmatization of those student athletes who suffer
from a mental illness have an impact on their everyday life. Review of Literature Parental, Peer
and Coach Pressure It is said that the reason for student athletes experiencing higher stress levels
are because of their extensive time demands, pressures to achieve, physical burn out and conflict
with teammates, coaches and teachers. (J. W. 2015). In one hand I believe that this overall
statement is true, but on the other hand I believe the amount of stress depends on the individual
and there involvement with their academics and athletics (Sudano, L. E., Collins, G., Miles, C. M.
(2017). With social stress, the

Intravascular Optical Coherence Tomography Analysis
The most prominent medical problem that Intravascular Optical Coherence Tomography addresses,
is the rupture or erosion of a coronary atherosclerosis plaque (Bouma, Villiger, Otsuka, Oh, 2017).
Plaque rupture or erosion can lead to blood clot formation, limiting blood flow to the heart, known
as Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). Atherosclerosisis a disease where plaque is built up inside the
arteries most commonly known atherosclerosis diseases are Coronary HeartDisease (CHD), where
one experiences a heart attack, and Cerebrovascular disease, where one experiences a stroke
(National Heart, Lung, and BloodInstitute, 2012). Plaque consists of fat, cholesterol, and calcium in

Summary Of John Knowles A Separate Peace
There was no harm in envying even your best friend a little, said Gene (Knowles 25). The novel A
Separate Peace by John Knowles takes place during the summer and winter sessions at Devon
School. Gene Forestor is an older man who visits his old school and unfolds the painful truth during
his experience there. His characteristics consist of being competitive, envious, and academically
inclined. A Separate Peace, showcases the conflict Gene goes through internally and with his best
friend because of jealousy until he finds his peace at last. To begin with, Gene s envy and mock of
Finny affected himself throughout the novel. Gene notices he loves and resents his best friend
causing an internal conflict within himself. I was beginning to see... Show more content on

(Knowles 4). He tries to convince himself that Finny felt the same exact way. All along Gene is
the only one having feelings like that. His conflict of envious and imitation towards himself
affected his relationship as well. Since Gene has now acknowledged his feelings toward Finny,
his actions will cause a lot of confusion. The level of jealousy and envy Gene has towards Finny
increases, he starts to put the blame on Finny for incidents such as him almost falling. I wouldn
t have been on that darn limb except for him... and so I lost my balance, if he hadn t been there,
(Knowles 60). He does not want to see Finny become even more successful. He becomes so
resentful of Phineas athletic skills he causes his friends injury to the leg. Holding firmly to the
trunk, I took a step toward him, and then my knees bent and I jounced the limb, (Knowles 60).
Gene describes the events that took place right before the fall. Now he seeks to amend with his
friend even after the act was intentionally done to harm Phineas. After the tragic accidents spiraling
after one another, Gene finds his

Title: Microsoft and Nokia strategic alliance
1.0 Background of Nokia and Microsoft
Microsoft is the biggest multinational corporation in the personal computer industry which owned
major of the market share (over 90%) in Window Operating System (Windows Phone, 2015). In
the year 2010, the Guinness Word Record for being the fastest selling consumer electronics device
ever released had break by the Microsoft. Microsoft also has the greater financial power that Nokia

1839 Photography
Since photography s invention in 1839, it has had an intimate relationship with land and nature,
and a favorite of photographers. Early photographers set a precedent for bringing the world up
close to far off lands and undiscovered wildlife and sated society s romantic appetite for the
unknown. Their photographs represented a window to the world and preserved picturesque scenes
for everyone s delight. It is here I explore the beginnings of photography s relationship for
preservation and protection for these wonders and the focus of this chapter. This chapter starts with
the painter s desire to precisely capture details of subject matter, including the natural world. Then, I

These early paintings depicted the sublime elements of land and nature (Cantrill Oravec, 1996;
Elliot, 2006; Sandweiss, 1991). Paintings of the Roman Empire exhibited landscapes with a
foreground, middle ground, and background similar to positions on a theatrical stage (i.e.
upstage, middle stage and down stage). The foreground typically contained a large tree or side of
a cliff, called a coulisse. The middle ground depicted a human or animal, sometimes a river or even
a ruin to lead the viewer s eye into the scene. The background contained the horizon framed by the
objects of the foreground. Key to these paintings was the harmonious coexistence of humans and all
of Earth s inhabitants. Near the end of medieval times, painters applied the rules of math and
architecture to render the principles of perspective to accurately represent depth and perspective
with a true vanishing point. Renaissance painters revered classical Greek ideals in their paintings, a
practice that continues even today. In the 17th and 18th century, landscape was the backdrop to the
larger biblical or mythical stories depicted in paintings. Paintings also served as records of
instrument and painters routinely were commissioned to accompany British, Dutch, Italian,
Portuguese and Spanish explorers as they colonized the western world. With colonization, these
paintings reinforced status as well as expansion of one s

Romeo And Juliet Love Analysis
Everyone has heard of Romeo and Juliet and the idea of young love, how two people fall
helplessly for each other and would do anything for that one person at such a young age. Well, I
don t buy it, young love is a facade. Young lovers are fools who are enamored with the idea of
others flaunting over them, they can t actually love though. You cannot love someone if you do
not really know who you are nor if you do not even know how to love yourself, nevertheless

all started sophomore year, my facade of young love that I knew was a facade but ignored it. I met

Once I admitted everything, I started going to a therapist who specializes in people with my
traumas. Alex and I started dating not too long after I admitted everything that happened to me
at that house. At first, the relationship was fairly decent, similar to my prior ones. Everything
was fine, until about a month into it. Yes, at this point, we had exchanged I love you s a few
times, but deep down, I knew I didn t. I should have broken up with him the moment he said it,
but people are right when they say I m too nice to hurt others, so I said it back. Unfortunately,
something very traumatic occurred about a month after we started dating. Sadly, I cannot
exactly tell you, but I am sure you could make assumptions as to what happened. After that
unforgettable incident, I knew I should have broken up with him, I should ve called someone, I
should ve made a scene, I should have done something. But, I could not; I was frozen with fear. I
continued to tell myself it was just a nightmare, that it didn t happen, that he did care about me.
However, deep down, I knew it happened, and I will never be able to make it go away. As
saddening as it is, I pushed that incident away, and we continued to date for a few more months.

Plato Homosexual Love Essay
deal with concepts of homosexual love. Sappho, the only ancient Greek female author whose
work survived, talks from the female point of observation, whereas Plato s work concentrates on
the idea of love among males. Though both of their perspectives are similar in ways such as their
ideas of physical attraction and desire, Platos work creates a better understanding of the nature of
love then Sappho s ideas. This understanding will be shown with three arguments and counter
arguments in order to demonstrate the dominance of Plato over Sappho. It will than be concluded
with an overview of the main idea and a recap of the three arguments made for Plato.
In the symposium, Pausanias (Greek geographer) conveys the second part which talks about a few
of the societal standards representing gay (homoerotic) relationships. The way that a companion
(an older man) and his lover ( a younger man) may act towards each other is largely based on
society s ethical code. It is shown that the tradition of this relationship is pursuer to the pursued; the
older man takes the initiative in the relationship and is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plato s work can be summarized by that the goal is essentially intellectual satisfaction, while
Sappho s objectives are directly linked with physical beauty and desire for physical attraction. Plato
s work provides a better understanding of love because the homoerotic relationship between an
older man and younger man creates positivity because it expands the virtue in the older man and the
wisdom in the younger man. Secondly, Pausanias shows the moral aspects are important within
homoerotic love because they are a guide to the right and wrong ways to satisfy desire. Lastly,
when you find you re other half, in turn you are finding yourself which is an amazing achievement.
Therefore, Plato s Symposium best explains the nature of

A Performance Analysis Of Tarry Flynn
A Performance Analysis of Tarry Flynn
Tarry felt he wasn t a Christian. His gods were in poetry, in the fields, in living things.
Wayne Jordan s production on Tarry Flynn in The Lir on Monday 20th October, opened with an
enactment of village commotion. Stylised swarms of characters entered and exited from every
corner of the theatre in the round, each concerned with their own activity. As the rhythm, speed and
energy climaxed Tarry Flynn enters and Mary Reilly is knocked off her bike. It later becomes clear
that this symbolises her molestation. From the outset, Jordan displaces Tarry from the rest of the
community. Jordan continues distancing Tarry throughout the play and particularly emphasises
Tarry and the youth of Drumnay s detachment from the church. It is clear that Wayne Jordan s
direction of Tarry Flynn conveys the clash of ideologies between the Catholic Churchand the youth
of 1930 s rural Ireland. This essay will go on to analyse three examples in support of this.
In the1930 s, Ireland was known as one of the most sexually repressed countries in the world.
Ireland was a Catholic country, with over 90% of the population declaring themselves to be
practising Catholics. The church was a potent social and political force. It dominated peoples lives
and provided the ideological basis for this sexual repression. The ideology of the church was one of
submission and dedication and was based on the Ten Commandments. The power of the church and

Device That Can Be Thought As A Gun
device that can be thought as a gun. The second screen has a surface that can record or detect any
wave or particle that manages to pass through the slits and strike the screen. As will be seen,
sometime the researcher will open just one slit and other times both slits. The experiment is
conducted in stages in order to contrast waves from particles.
In the first stage a series of bullets (particles) will be fired toward the barrier with one slit open.
As expected a vertical pattern of bullet holes will appear behind slit 1. After opening the second
slit and firing another volley, a second vertical pattern will appear right next to the first one. In
other words the bullets behave just like particles in accordance with classical physics as would be
expected.
In stage two a monochromatic light (light with just one wavelength) will be emitted toward the
screen. This is in contrast to the light from a normal light bulb that is composed of many differing
wavelengths (making it difficult to observe the interference pattern). The second screen is coated
with a chemical that illuminates when impacted by light. When the monochromatic light is emitted
with only one slit open, a pattern of brightness appears just behind the slit. But with both slits open
an interference pattern is observed consisting of bright bands where constructive interference
occurred and dark bands where destructive interference occurred. Again, this is just what is
expected.

Benefits Of Technology Essay
Technology is increasingly becoming more prominent in the daily lives of the working class as
well as a child s education. Technology can be very helpful in certain times, but at other times it
seems as if we depend on it more than we are actually learning. Is technology more helpful than
harmful? This seems to be a dispute within this new age technologyworld we live in today.
Certainly, there are ways we can use the internet to help us obtain information, and having the
knowledge at our fingertips does have positive advantages in making our lives easier. However,
there are also large concerns in having this tool due to changing the way we learn, think, obtain
information, and how largely it can influence our daily decisions.

Is technology worth the risk of our children losing the ability to be able to converse with one
another? It is vitally important that we use old tactics like writing our own songs, but blend in
technology by taking notes from musicians or downloading one s own song for others to hear.
On one hand, technology does excite children, and helps them sit still for a lengthy period of
time. On the other hand, children still need to know the importance of being able to effectively
write their own music and develop a sense of self achievement without the aid of internet access.
The teachers in Schools C and D were very clear about the necessity to balance the use of digital
technology with the opportunity to develop other musical skills and undertake other music
activities (130). It is pertinent that we have a well rounded balance using the internet, and a child
s own hidden talent, which is important for self worth. If we are taking everything from someone
else s work, where is the success really coming from, and how can we deem it as our own?
Reading, writing, learning, and speaking proper English is incredibly important, but with the use of
technology our children are losing the ability to obtain and relay information. Due to the use of the
internet and google, children can type in whatever question they have at hand, see the answer,
answer the question, and forget it in a matter of minutes. It is ok to not know everything and try to

In He Showed Us The Way , Cesar Chavez uses a rhetorical question, metaphor, and an allusion
to explain and persuade to the readers that non violent resistance is the best way to gain support
and to be heard. Chavez uses one of his rhetorical questions in paragraph 13, that states, Who
gets killed in the case of violent revolution? Then he goes on to make a great point that poor
people Workers are affected by the violence. This helps him convince the reader by telling how
people are being hurt by the violent structures of others making the reader feel like it s wrong to

Me Talk Pretty One Day Analysis
In the book, Me Talk Pretty One Day , author David Sedaris experiences many encounters with
alternative perspectives that clash with his own. Sedaris resistance and insistence of his own
superiority to said perspectives reflects the attitudes of the prisoners as well as the enlightened
in Plato s The Allegory of the Cave. In City of Angels, much to Sedaris distaste, he is
accompanied by a woman named Bonnie, who proudly wears her tourism on her sleeve. In this

express purpose of escaping Americans such as Bonnie. Here Sedaris resembles a prisoner from

Effects Of Deforestation On Amazon Forest Resilience Research
There is a chain reaction due to deforestation. Deforestation leads to decrease in biotic pump
disrupting the water cycle leading to a decrease in transpiration and increase in temperature. Such
rise in temperature leads to lack of rainfall, increase droughts and forest fires to which the fires will
disrupt the water cycleeven more. The effects of deforestationon Amazon forest resilience research
by Zemp et al. (2017), build upon previous research done in the field of forestry studies and used
similar methods to collect data. Although they have come to some shortcomings such as the risk of
underestimating the differences which are introduced in evapotranspiration following deforestation,

Zemp et al. (2017) s result on forest resilience in their simulation supports that the Amazon s
forest survival also decrease as there is an overlap between reductions of forest resilience with
deforested areas. Despite the evidence showing the detrimental effects of deforestation, Zemp et
al. (2017) s research focuses primarily on the quantity of the forest and deforestation, as such, the
research has a gap such that other geographical influences like fertilization, greenhouse gases, and
water use, are not accounted for. However, Zemp et al. (2017) had gained more understanding as
they had used other research papers, like [Spracklen and Garcia Carreras, 2015; Lejeune et al.,
2015], to close the unanswered gaps in the deforestation issue. Although the paper has explained the
effect of deforestation on water fluxes, the problem remains that in the short and long term,
regardless of any deforestation, many of the Amazon rainforest regions will continue to lose
precipitation and become more vulnerable to disturbances from fire and droughts, even more so in
the dry season (Zemp et al. 2017).
The Drought and Deforestation: Has Land Cover Change Influenced Recent Precipitation Extremes

drought severity and magnitude of impacts from the land cover change which are altered in drought

Pathology Between China And The West
Pathology Between China and the West and the Crisis of the Chinese Identity
So the book I decided to do for my book review is The Afterlife of Images: Translating the

important to state how she came to the point on writing the book. As the author was working in the
National Palace Museum researching representations of pathology in modern art, a colleague
pointed out a picture in showed a boy with smallpox. The picture was part of an exhibition at the
time called Comparison of Chinese and World Cultures . In this exhibit there were two timelines; a

various medical iconographies that ended up connecting the Chinese identity with illness
subjugation at the dawn of modernity. By doing so, it tries to point the various outlines of the
varied contexts in which the meanings of medical representations were created and transformed in
the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. It focuses on the medical rhetoric, the study
and application of persuasive language and symbols in medicine, and the iconography of
missionaries in China that brought back to the West this perception of a sick China or otherwise
known as Sick Man of Asia (Heinrich, pg 4). Furthermore, it also studies how these ideas found
their way back to China through missionaries, early translations of Western medical texts to
Chinese, and through Chinese literature itself. Ultimately, it not only tries to point out the

performances. Job satisfaction can be affected by conflict, resolution, attitudes. For a employee to

that will support positive attitudes then negative. When an individual is no longer satisfied at their

What Is The Difference Between Classical And Hellenistic Art
When we look back at these two different periods of art sculpture we can see the great difference
between the two stylistic choices of art. Behind each hunk of stone reads perfect anatomy and
certain expressions. One features a more dazed stone face and one gives life for more emotion
made within the stone. The Classical Period and Hellenistic period also look somewhat similar
from a glance are very different in feeling and meaning. The Classical Period started around the 5th
century BC. This period is where artists attempt to capture the human bodyrealistically and create
realistic poses. The most popular subjects were athletic males who are at their peak of their own
fitness. It was not until about 350 BC that there were statues featuring the female body. One very
noteworthy statue of the Classical Period was called Aphrodite of Knidos . The original sculpture
inspired various amounts of copies, but sadly the original itself did not survive. Aphrodite of
Knidos was created by Praxitele and is thought to be the most famous sculptures of Classical
Greece. The sculpture depicts Aphrodite just have taken off her clothes and was about to step
into the bath. She may have had an onlooker and she covered her pelvis from their view. The
Classical Period statues were designed to be a bit more casual, depicting one leg being stretched
forward as the other supports the body and the head tilted to the side. If you look closer at most of
the Classical statues you can see the

The Development Of Abolitionism And Anti Slavery
This paper is on the history of the development of abolitionism and anti slavery in Allegany
County, New York. Allegany County began shortly before the end of slavery in New York and
underwent its early period of development in a time when abolitionism, moral reform movements,
and related social developments were occurring across Western New York and other parts of the
country. This paper will draw on a variety of sources, including archival documents, biographies,
monographs, and information provided by local historians, to present an understanding of the
developments which occurred. It will make the case abolitionismin Allegany was developed through
an interactive and participatory process between the local population, reformist ideas, social
developments, relationships of mutual influence with non local elements.
Allegany County began in the period of the gradual abolition of slavery in New York. Significant
American settlement in the area began near the arrival of the 19th century and the county was
declared in 1806. In 1799, New York State had begun a legal process of gradual emancipation of
slaves, which culminated in its full prohibition in 1827. In this early period, most settlers did not
own slaves, some significant groups (such as a Rhode island group of Seventh Day Baptists who
settled in Nile and Alfred) came into the county with anti slavery views, and the local
Haudenosaunee were largely unfriendly in sentiments toward slavery. But a relatively small

ROS generation overwhelms antioxidant defenses, and ROS can interact with endogenous
macromolecules and change cellular functions (16). A high level of ROS may also result in

used as biomarkers of ROS induced tissue damage in various diseases (17, 18) Accumulating
research has suggested that certain probiotics play various biological roles through several
mechanisms, one of the most debated of these being antioxidant activity (19). In fact, among the
useful effects of probiotics in humans, protection against oxidative stress has been reported in

antioxidant properties after different time intervals. Some authors theorize that probiotics exert
their protective effects against oxidative stress by restoring the gut microbiota (25). Acting in this
way, antioxidant probiotic strains can be chosen and investigated as promising candidates for the

Disadvantages Of Intersectionality
To be a person, requires intersectionality. Intersectionality is the idea that people do not function on
only one aspect of their being, but instead, function on every aspect. Aspects that include race,
gender, ability, etc. With this intersectionality comes innumerable categories that lie on the scale of
privileged, oppressed, or somewhere in between. To be privileged is to have advantages that are
not necessarily earned, and instead come with a specific, usually uncontrollable feature, such as race
, gender, class, and ability. To be oppressed is to have disadvantages that are not earned, but
instead come with the same uncontrollable categories as privilege. Even cis gendered,
heterosexual, white, men have aspects of their intersectionality that might not place them at the
top of the privilege hierarchy. And it is in these complications where people start to place doubts
on their own privileges. It is important to realize that it is nearly impossible to have privilege in

The Stereotypes Of Britney Spears
A sixteen year old girl poses for the camera, wearing a shirt that resembles something more akin
to a bra than to an actual shirt. She is lying prostrate upon the floor with the photographer
snapping pictures above her scantily clad form. The girl s name is Britney Spears. She has just
recorded her first hit single, named quot;Hit Me Baby One More Time quot;.
As Britney s veneer of a bubblegum pop princess fades, she has resorted to shedding more and
more layers of clothing in order to attract a new breed of audience. Singing songs entitled
quot;Oops I Did It Again quot; and quot;I m a Slave for You quot;, her raunchy music videos are
now being mimicked by thirteen year old girls across the world. Britney Spears and her ... Show

captivated audiences world wide.
These glamorous media whores are idolized by millions of girls between the ages of ten and fifteen
and their fans tighten their shirts, raise their skirts and imitate the quot;sexy quot; moves they
witness in music videos. Many of these little lolitas have even taken to touching themselves
inappropriately and stripping off their clothes in a seductive manner in front of their bathroom
mirrors in order to make themselves feel more mature, womanly and sexy (Adrno 23).
Many Fortune 500 companies across the nation have invested millions of dollars in
advertisements bearing the visage of new young pop stars to sell their products (McCabe 1).
These ads are rife with sexuality convincing young girls that they must act and dress according to
their pop idols in order to achieve popularity.
We as a society are also sending out mixed messages to our youth. On one hand, we present images
of young, scantily clad girls being the epitome of style and fashion, yet we simultaneously
discourage this behavior in our nation s youth. We lock away pedophiles in institutions, and strictly

Disney and Traditional Stereotypes Essays
A little girl sits on the floor with her gaze fixed on the television screen in front of her, watching
magical images dance before her eyes and catchy songs flow through her ears. Even though she
had seen it at least twenty times before, she still loved The Little Mermaid just as much as she
did the first time she watched it. As she watched it, she longed to be a beautiful mermaid with a
curvy body and wonderful singing voice like Ariel. She longed to be saved by the handsome
Prince Eric, and fall in love and live happily ever after like Ariel did. In today s society, women
strive to achieve equality between the sexes. Despite the tremendous steps that have been taken
towards reaching gender equality, mainstream media contradicts these... Show more content on

It s about a mermaid, Ariel, who longs to live on land as a human, even though her father, King
Triton, strongly dislikes humans. Ariel falls in love with a human prince, Eric, and looks to the
evil sea monster, Ursula, to turn her into a human. Ursula makes Ariel a human in exchange for
her beautiful singing voice. In the end, Eric kills Ursula and Ariel and Eric get married. When
Ariel gives her voice up to become human, she becomes concerned with how she will
communicate with Eric. Ursula tells her, You ll have your looks, your pretty face, and don t
underestimate the importance of body language and The men up there don t like a lot of
blabber, they think a girl who gossips is a bore. Yes, on land it s much preferred for ladies not to

seductively to get a man.
Another stereotype given to women in Disney movies is that every story ends with the princess
falling in love with her perfect prince charming and living happily ever after together. It is
inevitable for any Disney woman not to fall in love in the end. The Disney women know exactly

Acute Care Of Pelvic Fractures
Abstract
Background:
Pelvic fractures usually occur within major crash high energy scenes, in which urgent
multidisciplinary input is needed (Giannoudis et al., 2007). Acute care of pelvic fractures has
improved in the past ten years yet there are still no formal guidelines or evidence for rehabilitation
of these types of fractures. Patients have long periods of non weight bearing which can cause
problems such as muscle wastage. Neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) has been proven
to minimise muscle loss and enhance recovery (Gondin et al., 2005). However, this has not been
determined within this patient group before.
Objective:
The primary objective of this study was to determine if the application of NMES is feasible in this
patient group. In addition, whether it improves hip abductor and adductor peak torque in pelvic
fracture rehabilitation compared to a placebo group.
Methods:
Seven patients with surgically fixed pelvic fractures were randomly allocated into two groups at
six weeks post fracture. The treatment group completed six weeks of daily NMES. The placebo
group completed six weeks of daily transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). The
percentage peak torque in the operated limb was measured at 12 weeks using a HUMAC strength
assessment machine using the non operated limb as a baseline.
Results:
No significant difference was found between percentage peak torque difference for operated and
non operated limbs with hip abduction and adduction

Jeremy Bentham Research Paper
English philosopher, economist, and theoretical judge are only a few words that describe Jeremy
Bentham, but one word that really sums up what he was, utilitarianism. Born in February 1748 in
London, England. His mother was the daughter of a shop clerk and his father and grandfather
was well established lawyer with a small practice, but most of the family s income came from his
father s purchase and selling of land. During his early childhood years, Bentham displayed a
remarkable gift for learning. By the time he was four years of age his father began to teach
Bentham Latin and Greek while sitting on his knee at night. These lessons would prove to be the
foundation that Bentham would build on while attending Westminster school where he accelerated

Rush University Personal Statement Sample
The belief that an education is valuable when it is used to serve your community was instilled in
me at a very young age. Growing up in a small village in Nigeria, West Africa, I was surrounded by
an African culture with a rural rustic lifestyle. I saw poverty, sickness, death and suffering on a
daily basis. I learned to build deep relationships with people of all age groups; from kids who were
my playmates, to moms whose babies I helped care for, and grandmas cooking over firewood or
selling in market stalls. I learned to value and treat all people with respect, appreciate them, and to
always take the time to help others.
During these formative years, I learned and accepted hard work and determination as essential
components of life. Having to walk miles to my father s farm after school; planting and harvesting
crops all year round; helping my mother make soya milk to sell at the market; tending to the
household chores; caring for my younger siblings; were all accomplished while studying to make
good grades in school. Soon discipline, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Level Of Certainty
The measure of doubt or levels of certainty arguably are negotiable for either being good or bad.
Levels of certainty may be destructive upon an individual s ability and even talents. Yet the
measure of doubt can withhold someone s ability to ever find out who they are destined to be.
All the while when utilized right they can be inarguably healthy for an individual. Examples
ranging from Marilyn Monroe an extraordinary model to Lance Armstrong a cyclists in 2000
known for his legendary career. Often many acceptors of religion tend to use their religion as a
base of certainty to belittle doubts while navigating their lives. All the while of using this new
found certainty they become incoherent to unfamiliar ideologies. This is frequent with
individuals of to date, so fed up with their own ideologies (not always having to be of religion)
and ways that they can t learn anything new. Often times causing simple tasks to be overwhelming
and ultimately very frustrating for they don t see any other valid way to solve these tasks.
Leaving certainty to become more of a nuisance and way of ignorance. Just because one door
opened when you twisted the knob doesn t mean all the other doors will open with the same twist....

World War I Showed New Technology And Exposed Men And Women
J Taiya Carr3/21/16Chapter 25REFLECTION PAPER 3 World War I showed new technology
and exposed men and women to a new type of brutality. European countries were in a state of
disarray and America found itself searching for the meaning of life and happiness. Radical
changes will occur in the U.S. involving politics and social ideas. Some people were shedding
their old traditional skins to accept the new modern world, while others are trying to hold onto the
old ways of the world. The United Stateswas facing varied problems, racism between blacks and
whites rose during the famed roaring twenties, and modernism was the new trend. This was

A reason America disliked immigrants was because anarchism and socialism was associated with
them, especially those from countries with failing governments. Stereotypes were common even
then. Now, the KKK, which had become very popular in the late 1800 s, found itself with an influx
of new members. They called for 100 percent Americanism, which I am sure appealed to many
Americans at the time and only allowed white Protestants to join (794). It is known that the KKK
were fundamentalist, many people from the South but also other parts of the country joining.
Fundamentalism and Modernists were butting heads at the time, especially with the Scopes Trial
/ Monkey Trial was in the air. A school teacher, John Scopes taught his students about evolution and
was arrested in Tennessee. The attorney defending Scopes was Charles Darrow. William Jennings
Bryan, whom had been the Secretary of State, had recently denounced Darwinism due to his firm
religious views and supported the prosecution during the Scopes Trial. I believed religion was
part of the government a bit too much during these times. It is the same today because we all
want a president or government official to have the same belief as we do. This would almost
guarantee the laws we want being approved, such as a liberal democrat who support same sex
marriage would be in favor of Hillary Clinton now. I believe Darrow was focused more on whether

Greek Mythology Essay
Since the beginning of time the people of the world have their share of beliefs. Greek mythology
is the arguably the most popular region of study. In Ancient Greece every citizen had a patron that
would protect them and pantheism was commonplace. The Romans admired the Greeks in their
art and culture and even took different aspects of their gods. Polytheism was widely accepted in
all cultures so the seed of mythology bloomed. The time line of the creations of gods to the end of
their reign is an important factor in Greek Mythology.
Creation
The creation of the gods starts with chaos and from the chaos came the endless gods: Eros,
Tartarus, and Gaea (Love, hell, and the earth). Gaea created Uranus, the first ruler of the sky and

Being unsuccessful, he went up to the heavens to his wife who had another spiteful plan. ( Cronus )
The Fall of Cronus and the Rise of the Olympians Once Zeus was fully grown he returned to his
father s realm and with the help of his mother, hoodwinked Cronus to drink an emetic that made
him disgorge his children (Leadbetter). It was these children: Hades, Poseidon, Hestia, Hera and
Demeter who helped Zeus wage the Titan war against Cronus. The women titans refused to help
Cronus defeat the Olympians and even a few male titans helped aid the Olympians. After ten years
of battles, the Olympians were able to banish the Titans into the Underworld (Titanomachy). It was
after this war that Zeus seized the throne and divided the sky, the underworld, and the sea amongst
him and his brothers. (Hades: the underworld, Poseidon: the sea, and Zeus: the sky.)
Gigantomachy
After the Olympians took rule over the world, Gaea grew upset about the order of things. It was
either because she thought that the Titians were not being treated fairly, or because she felt that
she was being appreciated. Either way, she was angered and decided that she wanted to take over.
She brought forth creations that were birthed to overthrow the Olympians: the Giants. Amongst
them were Typhoon and Echidna (Hatzitsinidou). Typhoon was said to be so tall that his head
scrapped the sky. There is some debate on what he was said to appear to be, but the most popular

What followed was a massive improvement in the recidivism rates that Camp Kilpatrick saw. This
was such as successful movement that eventually there was a documentary which was then later
made into a feature length movie in 2006. The movie featured one scene that producers had a bit
of trouble deciding whether or not to incorporate the teams first game. They had suffered a loss
that they were unprepared for and most of the team broke down into tears. This was a big
breakthrough in the program, although graphically or statistically this has no meaning it showed
that these inmates from different gangs, most of whom which were rival gangs were bonding
through the sport of football and were upset that they had attempted to bond together against
another team and lost. This prompted further teamwork among rival gangs and eventually the team
found itself in the championship game in which they lost a close game of 13 7. This alone would
not amount to much, maybe it meant that for one year the detention centre had a good year of
inmates who were willing to look past their differences.

Tax Reform Persuasive Speech
It amazes me to sit before parliament and witness the ignorance among my fellow noblemen,
bishops, knights, and burgesses who seem to rightfully believe the best course of action for
England to take, is to increase taxes in order to sustain a military buildup. We are some of the most
well educated individuals of this kingdom, yet many of you are so caught up in your own
petulance, that you fail to realize just how unrealizable this legislation is. Englands defenses are
well kept, and have proven time and time again to be able to withstand foreign aggression. Rather
than focusing on tax reform that would only harm the hard working laborers of this nation, we
should instead focus our efforts towards maintaining low tax rates for these individuals while we
continue to revive our economy. There are few in this nation who could healthy support and pay
for this tax, especially after the rise of enclosures in 1517. The only way to do this is to underwrite
princely ambition, for passion is a dangerous trait which more often than not leads us astray from
what is truly important. The current state of England s defense is more than optimal. We have

The Great Characters Of Sherlock Holmes And Psych s ...
We all use observation to a certain extent in our day to day lives. As human beings, one of the
many stimuli that we use is sight, therefore one of the ways we learn about our surroundings is
through observation. Many great characters from fictious literature and pop culture, such as Arthur
Doyle s Sherlock Holmes and Psych s Shawn Spencer . While this level of observationmay be
unrealistic, the uses and benefits that come from it are still incredible. So, is one just simply born
with these elevated levels of focus and mental capacity? Many don t understand that much like
playing the piano or painting a picture, observation is an art and skillin its own right. A skill that
can be taught, acquired, and applied. Personally, a few years ago I barely scraped the surface of
the power of observation. It was the spring of my senior year of high school, and my younger
brother wanted to get together and draw pictures. I agreed, thinking it would be fun, I had
hardly picked up a pencil for art in a long time. As we got out the notebooks and a plethora of
artsy utensils, we got started. But there was a problem, I continued to look at the blank page in
front of me. I realized, I did not know how to draw! It was not that the drawings were inadequate,
but that I couldn t put my pencil to paper. If I wanted to draw a realistic tree, there would have
been no way to make it happen. I decided that the lack of my ability to draw stemmed from the
lack of practice. Gordon B. Hinckley,

The impacts of all bank sizes are taken into account. The influence of bank size on bank
performance has been traditionally modeled by grouping banks based on asset sizes. Because of
the short period of operation, most of the banks have separate time series analysis. Under this
scheme, each group s total profit rate becomes the independent variable. The influence can be
inferred by comparing the regression summary statistics for the different groups.

Viking Raiders Essay
Beginning in about A.D. 800, many Scandinavians sailed south from their homelands to seek their
fortunes. These seafaring warriors began by raiding coastal sites of the British Isles but soon grew
more ambitious. During the next three centuries, they left their mark as traders, pirates and settlers
on much of Britain and the European continent. These raiders became known collectively as
Norsemen, or Northmen, though they are better remembered by another name: Vikings.
Most Vikings came from the regions of Scandinavia now known as Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
However, they were not united by race or nationality. To the people they raided, the Vikings shared
several common features. They were great sailors, ferocious fighters, and hailed from ... Show more

After 830, though, the Vikings took advantage of conflicts in Europe to extend their activity
further inland. In some cases, rulers were willing to pay off the Norsemen in exchange for being
left alone. Viking leaders soon realized they could make deals with kingdoms seeking to be left
alone or even desperate for protection.
By the mid 800s, the lands of Ireland, Scotland and England were attracting Viking settlers as well
as raiders. Viking settlers founded Ireland s first trading towns, including Dublin and Limerick.
They used ports on the Irish coast to launch attacks within Ireland and against English

Innovative approaches to Corporate Management
Felipe Guadalupe Innovative approaches to Corporate Management
A company is only as strong as its weakest link. In order for it to succeed in today s competitive
market, the company will have to depend on the acquisition and application of good, relevant
knowledge on which to base its decisions. For that to happen, good and sound decision making has
to be a part of everyday business. Therefore, corporate managers have taken innovative approaches
to corporate management by creating consistency and unity towards a purpose, along with an
environment where both the company and employees can excel.

It is important to exhibit and practice good leadership qualities to have people willingly follow your
instructions. Companies not only need good leaders, they need good managers as well to controls
resources and expenditures to allow the company to prosper. There are many different models of
management strategy that corporate management can follow to assist them in helping their
company evolve. Process based management, corporate entrepreneurship, and Total Quality
Management (TQM) are some of them, just to name a few.
Process based management deals with how companies provide products and services to their
customers. It focuses on five areas to help develop longevity for the company. First is promoting
a process based culture, where people are trained in the mindset of learning a process so that they
do not even have to think about what they are doing, they just react to a learned behavior. Second,
there is managing end to end business processes. Here is where the focus is on how to improve on

Why Is Imperialism A Bully
I believe that imperialism is mostly being a bully and just a little bit of being a friend for three
reasons. First how we treated the Panamanians, then how we intimidated Japan, and finally to
spread our culture. I mainly think it is being a bully because when we were getting the Panama
Canal built we treated the people of Panama very poorly, and we allowed many of them to die. We
forced them to work in Malaria infested forests, horrendous terrain, deplorable living conditions. I
also believe this because of the danger. They were dealing with dynamite a highly unstable material
that could blow up at any moment. I also believe that United Statesimperialismis being a bully
because it s not morally right to take over another country and subjugate

Schema By Nisbett
To demonstrate the unconscious processes, called schemas , of our minds, Nisbett provides
diagrams and excerpt passages from the experiments that he references such that the audience can
test themselves and realize his truth (18). Right at the start, he presents the words self confident ,
Independent , adventurous , and persistent and follows with a paragraph of a hypothetical
mountain climber (19). The paragraph apparently aligns with the words that were previously
presented, and if words such as reckless or conceited were shown, the climber would align with
those. Nisbett actively demonstrates the reader s own schema and specifically chooses
demonstrations like this to prove how influential these schema can be, enough to form our

Judaism As A Monotheistic Religion
Judaism is known to be a monotheistic religion, that is historic religion of Jewish people, which
is said to be one of the oldest religions that fall under the monotheistic religion that believes in
God, and that God is an all knowing, all powerful God that created the world as well as everything
that is in it (Voorst,2013). Judaismfoundation started in the original covenant made between
Abraham and God, circa 1900 BCE, when Abraham was called to leave his home in Ur and
travel to Cannan, which was later known as Palestine and Israel, the land which God promised
to give to his descendants (Swartz,2005). Years later, there was a second covenant with Moses,
who led the Jews out of slavery in Egypt, exodus back to the lands of Canaan. At Mt Horeb also
known as Sinai, is where God gave the Jewish people the Ten Commandants as was as other rules
to live by which are found in the Torah, as well as the first five books of the Bible, marking the
beginning of Judaism as a structured religion (Swartz,2005).
While Judaism is, the oldest religions that fall under the monotheistic religion that believes in God,
who not only created the universe but with whom every Jew can have an individual and personal
relationship (Britannica, 2017). The most important teaching of Judaism is that there is one God,

Studying Abroad Analysis
Have you traveled or studied abroad before? I have made it a point in my life to learn as much as
I can through traveling the globe. From the age of one I have been traveling to Canada, but the
boarder is only four hours away. At the age of fourteen I began to travel and experience other
cultures. This complete changed my life. I went to OchoRios, Jamaica, with Project Timothy
and volunteered at a children s camp. I went not knowing anyone I would be with and it changed
my life. Since then I have volunteered at two children s Orphanage and feeding houses in
Bluefields, Nicaragua. I have traveled to Bermuda with my family. Just last December I also
stayed in the United Kingdom for a month on my own. In January of this year I went on a
European Union trip, on this trip I went to London, Paris, Somme, Versailles, Berlin, Brussels,
and Luxembourg. This was a four credit class about the European Union and politics. Traveling is
something I love to do and my favorite way to learn about life, myself and my studies. Describe
yourself I never define myself by a few words nor a group. I have always been my own person,
never fitting into one click or group of people. I have always attracted friends from an a ray of

What Is The Utilitarian Theory Of Charity
poverty related illness, which is a much better use of the money as it brings someone in extreme
poverty far more happiness than it would bring to oneself, if one lived in relative comfort. Thus
according to the utilitarian theory we should produce more overall happiness in the world by doing
charity. We can see that though both the theories are different but supports the concept of charity.
Criticism on charity
Critics of charitable giving disputes that simply giving gifts or money to needy people has
negative long term effects. It creates a bad habit of being dependent. Most people would say that
charity is always good, but not everyone, as it may not provide the best solution to the problem.
Moreover it may lead to favouritism, not fairness.
As Peter Singer once said The interests of all persons ought to count equally, and geographic
location and citizenship make no intrinsic difference to the rights and obligations of individuals. [18]

According to the critics our charitable giving is often inefficient and they also questions the
ethnicity of the money raised by the charitable organisations. They point out that charities may not
make best use of their funds. Karl Paul Reinhold Niebuhr, in his book (Moral Man and Immoral
Society, 1932) writes that he thought that a powerful person s donation to charity was a display of
his power and an expression of his pity. Thus, the critics of charity says that, every so called
charity is an encouragement of the very evil it claims to operate against. The accusation is that
charity helps the recipient with their problem, but it doesn t do much to deal with the causes of that

How To Read Literature Like A Professor By Thomas C. Foster
The Flood Stories In Thomas C. Foster s book, How to Read Literature Like a Professor, Foster
discusses that in every piece of literature, there is no originality. Each literary work is connected in
one way or another to a different literary work, making one story . Having striking similarities, but
being written 2000 years apart, the floodstories of Utnapishtim in The Epic of Gilgameshand Noah
in the Bible back up what Foster says. Gilgamesh in an old epic about a man named Gilgamesh
and his quest for immortality, while Noah is a not quite so old story of when Godflooded the earth.
Each story is unique in its own way with having slight differences, perhaps caused by the extensive
time period between each, but the similarities are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ea told Utnapishtim to build a boat, Of seven stories each with nine chambers (Gilgamesh 10).
The boat was also to be cube shaped and able to hold food, wine, minerals, his family, and the
seed of living animals (Gilgamesh 10). Similarly, God instructed Noah to build an ark of cypress
with rooms. It has to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high
(Genesis 6:15). The ark also contained upper, middle, and lower decks, and a door on the side.
Both had been told how the boat should be built by a divine figure, but God s instructions to
Noah were different than those given to Utnapishtim. After the flood waters had ceased, both
Utnapishtim and Noah sent out a series of bird to check if it was safe to come out of their large
boats and then were rewarded for their obedience. Utnapishtim sent out a dove, swallow and
raven, with whom each found land, and Noah sent out a raven and a dove, which was sent out
twice. When both men exited their ships, their God/gods rewarded them greatly, but with
different things. Enlil, the war god blessed Utnapishtim and his family by saying, You and your
wife shall be like gods. You shall live in the distance at the river s mouth, at the source
(Gilgamesh 10). For Noah, God promised him, Everything that lives and moves about will be food

Christian Speculation about the End of Times
Religions do not only relate to the past but also to the future: beliefs about resurrection or further
rebirths, hopes of a better future, or even fears of apocalyptic tribulations. In this essay, various
religious futures will be investigated: the evolution towards spiritual individualism and
consumerism, the success of yoga and the Christian speculations about the end of times. It will be
easily demonstrated that each of these futures is highly controversial but are they controversial
primarily because of the way in which they reinterpret the past? The essay will argue that the
reinterpretation of the past should better seen as a legitimating force rather than the primary cause
of the controversy.
Sociologist Emile Durkheim (1858 1917) described religion as a unified system of beliefs and
practices (...) which unite into one single moral community called a Church : for him, the idea of
religion is inseparable from that of the Church (Durkheim cited in Harvey, 2013, p. 8). This
definition fits well with established religion in the past a strong cohesive force within society,
bounding its members together, most often centralised and institutionalised (as the Roman Catholic
Church). By contrast, in our modern society, individual choices tend to be prevalent in religious
matters, allowing people to freely shift their religious affiliation or even build up their own
spirituality a trend sometimes labelled the privatisation of religion . People are increasingly

Cell Anemi The Common Genetic Disorder Essay
SICKEL CELL ANEMIA
Sickle Cell Anemia or (SCD) is the most common genetic disorder across the entire world it is an
inherited genetic condition giving to you by both your mother and father that affects your
hemoglobin. There is a mutation in the gene that tells your body to make hemoglobin (a red iron
rich compound that gives blood its red color). There are over 600 million hemoglobin molecules in
each red blood cell (Brown, M. (2012)). The purpose of hemoglobin is allow red blood cells to
carry carbon dioxide, and oxygen from your lungs to all parts of the body. People with sickle cell
disease inherit the s gene from abnormal hemoglobin from both parents, you usually find out you
have this disease at birth. A blood test is giving to all newborns to look for the s gene known as the
sickle cell gene.
Children and adults can also have this test done. Young children s blood is usually taken from a
finger or heel prick for this test. Adults can have their blood drawn from a vein in the arm.
Pregnant woman who want to know if there baby will have sickle cell disease can have their
unborn baby tested by the amniotic fluid surrounded by the fetus to look for the s gene. In
people with sickle cell anemia the abnormal hemoglobin causes red blood cells to become rigid,
sticky and crescent shaped. The crescent shape is why they call it the s gene. Both of your parents
must carry the s gene. If only one parent has the s gene and passes it

precious life lessons that can only be learned the hard way. Unless it s a fatal mistake, which, at
least, others can learn from. Despite the fact that both The Scarlet Ibisand Simon Birch are parallel
they share many distinctions. The disparity between these two individual stories is setting,

These story starts like these (1531). On December 9, 1531, in Mexico, our Lady of Guadalupe
appeared to Juan Diego, a poor humble Aztec Indian who had recently converted to the catholic
faith. She asked him to go to the Bishop and tell him to build a church where she said ВЁI will

symbol the Spaniards had on their ships and in the churches.

projects are feasible given unlimited resources and infinite time. But the development of
software is plagued by the scarcity of resources and difficult delivery rates. It is both necessary
and prudent to evaluate the feasibility of a project at the earliest possible time. Three key
considerations are involved in the feasibility analysis. Economic Feasibility: This procedure is to
determine the benefits and savings that are expected from a candidate system and compare them
with costs. If benefits outweigh costs, then the decision is made to design and implement the
system. Otherwise, further justification or alterations in proposed system will have to be made if
it is to have a chance of being approved. This is an ongoing effort that improves in accuracy at
each phase of the system life cycle. Technical Feasibility: Technical feasibility centers on the
existing computer system (hardware, software, etc.,) and to what extent it can support the proposed
addition. If the budget is a serious constraint, then the project is judged not feasible. Operational
Feasibility: People are inherently resistant to change, and computers have been known to facilitate
change. It is understandable that the introduction of a candidate system requires special effort to

  • 2. The Negative Effects Of Mental Health In Student-Athletes The negative impact mental health has had on student athletes is a continuous problem across the globe and has been a topic of interest in the research world for many years. The stigma behind mental health have lead to symptoms of depression and anxiety, reluctance to seek help, the sense of helplessness and loneliness and many more. In a student athlete, these stress levels are brought upon the individual for multiple reasons. For example, student athletes have to accomplish a certain degree of success both on the playing field and in the classroom (A.P. , Deitrick, J.M. , Reynolds, E. (2016). Maintaining a required average and playing time can become not only physically but mentally exhausting. This literature review will discuss the barriers and facilitators to mental health in student athletes and how the stigmatization of those student athletes who suffer from a mental illness have an impact on their everyday life. Review of Literature Parental, Peer and Coach Pressure It is said that the reason for student athletes experiencing higher stress levels are because of their extensive time demands, pressures to achieve, physical burn out and conflict with teammates, coaches and teachers. (J. W. 2015). In one hand I believe that this overall statement is true, but on the other hand I believe the amount of stress depends on the individual and there involvement with their academics and athletics (Sudano, L. E., Collins, G., Miles, C. M. (2017). With social stress, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I wouldn t have been on that darn limb except for him... and so I lost my balance, if he hadn t been there, (Knowles 60). He does not want to see Finny become even more successful. He becomes so resentful of Phineas athletic skills he causes his friends injury to the leg. Holding firmly to the trunk, I took a step toward him, and then my knees bent and I jounced the limb, (Knowles 60). Gene describes the events that took place right before the fall. Early photographers set a precedent for bringing the world up close to far off lands and undiscovered wildlife and sated society s romantic appetite for the unknown. Their photographs represented a window to the world and preserved picturesque scenes for everyone s delight. It is here I explore the beginnings of photography s relationship for preservation and protection for these wonders and the focus of this chapter. These early paintings depicted the sublime elements of land and nature (Cantrill Oravec, 1996; Elliot, 2006; Sandweiss, 1991). Paintings of the Roman Empire exhibited landscapes with a foreground, middle ground, and background similar to positions on a theatrical stage (i.e. upstage, middle stage and down stage). The foreground typically contained a large tree or side of a cliff, called a coulisse. The middle ground depicted a human or animal, sometimes a river or even a ruin to lead the viewer s eye into the scene. The background contained the horizon framed by the objects of the foreground. Key to these paintings was the harmonious coexistence of humans and all of Earth s inhabitants. Near the end of medieval times, painters applied the rules of math and architecture to render the principles of perspective to accurately represent depth and perspective with a true vanishing point. Renaissance painters revered classical Greek ideals in their paintings, a practice that continues even today. In the 17th and 18th century, landscape was the backdrop to the larger biblical or mythical stories depicted in paintings. Paintings also served as records of instrument and painters routinely were commissioned to accompany British, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish explorers as they colonized the western world. • 7. Romeo And Juliet Love Analysis Everyone has heard of Romeo and Juliet and the idea of young love, how two people fall helplessly for each other and would do anything for that one person at such a young age. Well, I don t buy it, young love is a facade. Young lovers are fools who are enamored with the idea of others flaunting over them, they can t actually love though. You cannot love someone if you do not really know who you are nor if you do not even know how to love yourself, nevertheless another. I m sure you are wondering what made me come to this conclusion. Well, buckle up. It all started sophomore year, my facade of young love that I knew was a facade but ignored it. Once I admitted everything, I started going to a therapist who specializes in people with my traumas. Alex and I started dating not too long after I admitted everything that happened to me at that house. At first, the relationship was fairly decent, similar to my prior ones. Everything was fine, until about a month into it. Yes, at this point, we had exchanged I love you s a few times, but deep down, I knew I didn t. I should have broken up with him the moment he said it, but people are right when they say I m too nice to hurt others, so I said it back. Unfortunately, something very traumatic occurred about a month after we started dating. Sadly, I cannot exactly tell you, but I am sure you could make assumptions as to what happened. After that unforgettable incident, I knew I should have broken up with him, I should ve called someone, I should ve made a scene, I should have done something. But, I could not; I was frozen with fear. I continued to tell myself it was just a nightmare, that it didn t happen, that he did care about me. However, deep down, I knew it happened, and I will never be able to make it go away. As saddening as it is, I pushed that incident away, and we continued to date for a few more months. • 8. Plato Homosexual Love Essay deal with concepts of homosexual love. Sappho, the only ancient Greek female author whose work survived, talks from the female point of observation, whereas Plato s work concentrates on the idea of love among males. Though both of their perspectives are similar in ways such as their ideas of physical attraction and desire, Platos work creates a better understanding of the nature of love then Sappho s ideas. This understanding will be shown with three arguments and counter arguments in order to demonstrate the dominance of Plato over Sappho. It will than be concluded with an overview of the main idea and a recap of the three arguments made for Plato. In the symposium, Pausanias (Greek geographer) conveys the second part which talks about a few of the societal standards representing gay (homoerotic) relationships. The way that a companion (an older man) and his lover ( a younger man) may act towards each other is largely based on society s ethical code. It is shown that the tradition of this relationship is pursuer to the pursued; the older man takes the initiative in the relationship and is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Plato s work can be summarized by that the goal is essentially intellectual satisfaction, while Sappho s objectives are directly linked with physical beauty and desire for physical attraction. Plato s work provides a better understanding of love because the homoerotic relationship between an older man and younger man creates positivity because it expands the virtue in the older man and the wisdom in the younger man. Secondly, Pausanias shows the moral aspects are important within homoerotic love because they are a guide to the right and wrong ways to satisfy desire. • 9. A Performance Analysis Of Tarry Flynn A Performance Analysis of Tarry Flynn Tarry felt he wasn t a Christian. His gods were in poetry, in the fields, in living things. Wayne Jordan s production on Tarry Flynn in The Lir on Monday 20th October, opened with an enactment of village commotion. Stylised swarms of characters entered and exited from every corner of the theatre in the round, each concerned with their own activity. As the rhythm, speed and energy climaxed Tarry Flynn enters and Mary Reilly is knocked off her bike. It later becomes clear that this symbolises her molestation. From the outset, Jordan displaces Tarry from the rest of the community. Jordan continues distancing Tarry throughout the play and particularly emphasises Tarry and the youth of Drumnay s detachment from the church. It is clear that Wayne Jordan s direction of Tarry Flynn conveys the clash of ideologies between the Catholic Churchand the youth of 1930 s rural Ireland. This essay will go on to analyse three examples in support of this. In the1930 s, Ireland was known as one of the most sexually repressed countries in the world. Ireland was a Catholic country, with over 90% of the population declaring themselves to be practising Catholics. The church was a potent social and political force. It dominated peoples lives and provided the ideological basis for this sexual repression. The ideology of the church was one of submission and dedication and was based on the Ten Commandments. • 10. Device That Can Be Thought As A Gun device that can be thought as a gun. The second screen has a surface that can record or detect any wave or particle that manages to pass through the slits and strike the screen. As will be seen, sometime the researcher will open just one slit and other times both slits. The experiment is conducted in stages in order to contrast waves from particles. In the first stage a series of bullets (particles) will be fired toward the barrier with one slit open. As expected a vertical pattern of bullet holes will appear behind slit 1. After opening the second slit and firing another volley, a second vertical pattern will appear right next to the first one. In other words the bullets behave just like particles in accordance with classical physics as would be expected. In stage two a monochromatic light (light with just one wavelength) will be emitted toward the screen. This is in contrast to the light from a normal light bulb that is composed of many differing wavelengths (making it difficult to observe the interference pattern). The second screen is coated with a chemical that illuminates when impacted by light. When the monochromatic light is emitted with only one slit open, a pattern of brightness appears just behind the slit. But with both slits open an interference pattern is observed consisting of bright bands where constructive interference occurred and dark bands where destructive interference occurred. Again, this is just what is expected. In the third stage ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Benefits Of Technology Essay Technology is increasingly becoming more prominent in the daily lives of the working class as well as a child s education. Technology can be very helpful in certain times, but at other times it seems as if we depend on it more than we are actually learning. Is technology more helpful than harmful? This seems to be a dispute within this new age technologyworld we live in today. Certainly, there are ways we can use the internet to help us obtain information, and having the knowledge at our fingertips does have positive advantages in making our lives easier. However, there are also large concerns in having this tool due to changing the way we learn, think, obtain information, and how largely it can influence our daily decisions. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Is technology worth the risk of our children losing the ability to be able to converse with one another? It is vitally important that we use old tactics like writing our own songs, but blend in technology by taking notes from musicians or downloading one s own song for others to hear. On one hand, technology does excite children, and helps them sit still for a lengthy period of time. On the other hand, children still need to know the importance of being able to effectively write their own music and develop a sense of self achievement without the aid of internet access. The teachers in Schools C and D were very clear about the necessity to balance the use of digital technology with the opportunity to develop other musical skills and undertake other music activities (130). It is pertinent that we have a well rounded balance using the internet, and a child s own hidden talent, which is important for self worth. If we are taking everything from someone else s work, where is the success really coming from, and how can we deem it as our own? Reading, writing, learning, and speaking proper English is incredibly important, but with the use of technology our children are losing the ability to obtain and relay information. Due to the use of the internet and google, children can type in whatever question they have at hand, see the answer, answer the question, and forget it in a matter of minutes. Chavez uses one of his rhetorical questions in paragraph 13, that states, Who gets killed in the case of violent revolution? Then he goes on to make a great point that poor people Workers are affected by the violence. This helps him convince the reader by telling how people are being hurt by the violent structures of others making the reader feel like it s wrong to have violent resistance, which is leaning the reader more towards an agreement with the writer. • 13. Me Talk Pretty One Day Analysis In the book, Me Talk Pretty One Day , author David Sedaris experiences many encounters with alternative perspectives that clash with his own. Sedaris resistance and insistence of his own superiority to said perspectives reflects the attitudes of the prisoners as well as the enlightened in Plato s The Allegory of the Cave. In City of Angels, much to Sedaris distaste, he is accompanied by a woman named Bonnie, who proudly wears her tourism on her sleeve. In this chapter Sedaris states Like me, most of the people I knew had moved to New York with the express purpose of escaping Americans such as Bonnie. • 14. Effects Of Deforestation On Amazon Forest Resilience Research There is a chain reaction due to deforestation. Deforestation leads to decrease in biotic pump disrupting the water cycle leading to a decrease in transpiration and increase in temperature. Such rise in temperature leads to lack of rainfall, increase droughts and forest fires to which the fires will disrupt the water cycleeven more. The effects of deforestationon Amazon forest resilience research by Zemp et al. (2017), build upon previous research done in the field of forestry studies and used similar methods to collect data. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Zemp et al. (2017) s result on forest resilience in their simulation supports that the Amazon s forest survival also decrease as there is an overlap between reductions of forest resilience with deforested areas. Despite the evidence showing the detrimental effects of deforestation, Zemp et al. (2017) s research focuses primarily on the quantity of the forest and deforestation, as such, the research has a gap such that other geographical influences like fertilization, greenhouse gases, and water use, are not accounted for. However, Zemp et al. (2017) had gained more understanding as they had used other research papers, like [Spracklen and Garcia Carreras, 2015; Lejeune et al., 2015], to close the unanswered gaps in the deforestation issue. Although the paper has explained the effect of deforestation on water fluxes, the problem remains that in the short and long term, regardless of any deforestation, many of the Amazon rainforest regions will continue to lose precipitation and become more vulnerable to disturbances from fire and droughts, even more so in the dry season (Zemp et al. 2017). The Drought and Deforestation: Has Land Cover Change Influenced Recent Precipitation Extremes in the Amazon? By Bagley et al. In the introduction of the book the author finds it important to state how she came to the point on writing the book. As the author was working in the National Palace Museum researching representations of pathology in modern art, a colleague pointed out a picture in showed a boy with smallpox. By doing so, it tries to point the various outlines of the varied contexts in which the meanings of medical representations were created and transformed in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. It focuses on the medical rhetoric, the study and application of persuasive language and symbols in medicine, and the iconography of missionaries in China that brought back to the West this perception of a sick China or otherwise known as Sick Man of Asia (Heinrich, pg 4). Furthermore, it also studies how these ideas found their way back to China through missionaries, early translations of Western medical texts to Chinese, and through Chinese literature itself. What Is The Difference Between Classical And Hellenistic Art When we look back at these two different periods of art sculpture we can see the great difference between the two stylistic choices of art. Behind each hunk of stone reads perfect anatomy and certain expressions. One features a more dazed stone face and one gives life for more emotion made within the stone. The Classical Period and Hellenistic period also look somewhat similar from a glance are very different in feeling and meaning. The Classical Period started around the 5th century BC. This period is where artists attempt to capture the human bodyrealistically and create realistic poses. The most popular subjects were athletic males who are at their peak of their own fitness. It was not until about 350 BC that there were statues featuring the female body. One very noteworthy statue of the Classical Period was called Aphrodite of Knidos . The original sculpture inspired various amounts of copies, but sadly the original itself did not survive. Aphrodite of Knidos was created by Praxitele and is thought to be the most famous sculptures of Classical Greece. The sculpture depicts Aphrodite just have taken off her clothes and was about to step into the bath. She may have had an onlooker and she covered her pelvis from their view. Allegany County began shortly before the end of slavery in New York and underwent its early period of development in a time when abolitionism, moral reform movements, and related social developments were occurring across Western New York and other parts of the country. This paper will draw on a variety of sources, including archival documents, biographies, monographs, and information provided by local historians, to present an understanding of the developments which occurred. Allegany County began in the period of the gradual abolition of slavery in New York. Significant American settlement in the area began near the arrival of the 19th century and the county was declared in 1806. In 1799, New York State had begun a legal process of gradual emancipation of slaves, which culminated in its full prohibition in 1827. In this early period, most settlers did not own slaves, some significant groups (such as a Rhode island group of Seventh Day Baptists who settled in Nile and Alfred) came into the county with anti slavery views, and the local Haudenosaunee were largely unfriendly in sentiments toward slavery. • 22. Disadvantages Of Intersectionality To be a person, requires intersectionality. Intersectionality is the idea that people do not function on only one aspect of their being, but instead, function on every aspect. Aspects that include race, gender, ability, etc. With this intersectionality comes innumerable categories that lie on the scale of privileged, oppressed, or somewhere in between. To be privileged is to have advantages that are not necessarily earned, and instead come with a specific, usually uncontrollable feature, such as race , gender, class, and ability. To be oppressed is to have disadvantages that are not earned, but instead come with the same uncontrollable categories as privilege. Even cis gendered, heterosexual, white, men have aspects of their intersectionality that might not place them at the top of the privilege hierarchy. And it is in these complications where people start to place doubts on their own privileges. It is important to realize that it is nearly impossible to have privilege in every single way or oppression in every single way, yet, this is not an excuse to deny privileges. Even with some oppressions, some are still granted more advantages than others. To delve into this deeper, analyzing writings from established writers, such as Peggy McIntosh and Devon Carbado become necessary. Acute care of pelvic fractures has improved in the past ten years yet there are still no formal guidelines or evidence for rehabilitation of these types of fractures. Patients have long periods of non weight bearing which can cause problems such as muscle wastage. Objective: The primary objective of this study was to determine if the application of NMES is feasible in this patient group. In addition, whether it improves hip abductor and adductor peak torque in pelvic fracture rehabilitation compared to a placebo group. Methods: Seven patients with surgically fixed pelvic fractures were randomly allocated into two groups at six weeks post fracture. The treatment group completed six weeks of daily NMES. The placebo group completed six weeks of daily transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). They had suffered a loss that they were unprepared for and most of the team broke down into tears. This was a big breakthrough in the program, although graphically or statistically this has no meaning it showed that these inmates from different gangs, most of whom which were rival gangs were bonding through the sport of football and were upset that they had attempted to bond together against another team and lost. This prompted further teamwork among rival gangs and eventually the team found itself in the championship game in which they lost a close game of 13 7. This alone would not amount to much, maybe it meant that for one year the detention centre had a good year of inmates who were willing to look past their differences. Tax Reform Persuasive Speech It amazes me to sit before parliament and witness the ignorance among my fellow noblemen, bishops, knights, and burgesses who seem to rightfully believe the best course of action for England to take, is to increase taxes in order to sustain a military buildup. We are some of the most well educated individuals of this kingdom, yet many of you are so caught up in your own petulance, that you fail to realize just how unrealizable this legislation is. Englands defenses are well kept, and have proven time and time again to be able to withstand foreign aggression. Rather than focusing on tax reform that would only harm the hard working laborers of this nation, we should instead focus our efforts towards maintaining low tax rates for these individuals while we continue to revive our economy. There are few in this nation who could healthy support and pay for this tax, especially after the rise of enclosures in 1517. The only way to do this is to underwrite princely ambition, for passion is a dangerous trait which more often than not leads us astray from what is truly important. As human beings, one of the many stimuli that we use is sight, therefore one of the ways we learn about our surroundings is through observation. Many great characters from fictious literature and pop culture, such as Arthur Doyle s Sherlock Holmes and Psych s Shawn Spencer . While this level of observationmay be unrealistic, the uses and benefits that come from it are still incredible. So, is one just simply born with these elevated levels of focus and mental capacity? Many don t understand that much like playing the piano or painting a picture, observation is an art and skillin its own right. A skill that can be taught, acquired, and applied. Personally, a few years ago I barely scraped the surface of the power of observation. It was the spring of my senior year of high school, and my younger brother wanted to get together and draw pictures. I agreed, thinking it would be fun, I had hardly picked up a pencil for art in a long time. As we got out the notebooks and a plethora of artsy utensils, we got started. But there was a problem, I continued to look at the blank page in front of me. I realized, I did not know how to draw! It was not that the drawings were inadequate, but that I couldn t put my pencil to paper. If I wanted to draw a realistic tree, there would have been no way to make it happen. I decided that the lack of my ability to draw stemmed from the lack of practice. Gordon B. Hinckley, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 52. Christian Speculation about the End of Times Religions do not only relate to the past but also to the future: beliefs about resurrection or further rebirths, hopes of a better future, or even fears of apocalyptic tribulations. In this essay, various religious futures will be investigated: the evolution towards spiritual individualism and consumerism, the success of yoga and the Christian speculations about the end of times. It will be easily demonstrated that each of these futures is highly controversial but are they controversial primarily because of the way in which they reinterpret the past? The essay will argue that the reinterpretation of the past should better seen as a legitimating force rather than the primary cause of the controversy. Sociologist Emile Durkheim (1858 1917) described religion as a unified system of beliefs and practices (...) which unite into one single moral community called a Church : for him, the idea of religion is inseparable from that of the Church (Durkheim cited in Harvey, 2013, p. 8). This definition fits well with established religion in the past a strong cohesive force within society, bounding its members together, most often centralised and institutionalised (as the Roman Catholic Church). By contrast, in our modern society, individual choices tend to be prevalent in religious matters, allowing people to freely shift their religious affiliation or even build up their own spirituality a trend sometimes labelled the privatisation of religion . But the development of software is plagued by the scarcity of resources and difficult delivery rates. It is both necessary and prudent to evaluate the feasibility of a project at the earliest possible time. Three key considerations are involved in the feasibility analysis. Economic Feasibility: This procedure is to determine the benefits and savings that are expected from a candidate system and compare them with costs. If benefits outweigh costs, then the decision is made to design and implement the system. Otherwise, further justification or alterations in proposed system will have to be made if it is to have a chance of being approved. This is an ongoing effort that improves in accuracy at each phase of the system life cycle. Technical Feasibility: Technical feasibility centers on the existing computer system (hardware, software, etc.,) and to what extent it can support the proposed addition. If the budget is a serious constraint, then the project is judged not feasible. Operational Feasibility: People are inherently resistant to change, and computers have been known to facilitate change. It is understandable that the introduction of a candidate system requires special effort to educate, sell, and train the staff on new ways of conducting business. FEASIBILITY STUDY IN THIS ...
