Essay on George W. Bush
George W. Bush
George Walker Bush is the son of the 41st President George H. W. Bush and Barbara Bush. Born on
July 6, 1946, Bush was raised in Houston, Texas and was the oldest of four children. Bush finished his
high school years at Phillips Academy, which was an all male boarding school in Andover,
Massachusetts, where he was the head cheerleader during his senior year. Bush went to college at Yale
University from 1964 till his graduation in 1968 where he finished with a Bachelor s degree in history.
In the fall of 1973, Bush attended the Harvard Business School, where he earned an MBA. He is the
only US President to have earned an MBA. He also is the first US President to get into office with a
criminal record, as he had multiple ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His campaign focused on four themes: welfare reform, tort reform, crime reduction and educational
improvement. He won re election in 1998, becoming the first Governor in Texas history to be elected
to two consecutive four year terms.
In June of 1999, while still Governor of Texas, Bush announced his candidacy for President of the
United States. In the final showdown, it was between Bush and Vice President Al Gore in one of the
closest elections ever. After a third recount, Bush received 271 electoral votes to Gore s 266 and
became the 43rd President of the United States. However, he lost the popular vote by more than half a
million votes. His fist initiative as President was the No Child Left Behind Act, which raised standards
in schools and insisted on accountability in return for federal dollars. The most significant event
during Bush s reign came on September 11, 2001 when terrorists hijacked several planes and attacked
American soil killing nearly 3,000 people. In response to the attack, Bush established the Department
of Homeland Security and announced the War on Terrorism which still continues to this day. Bush
focused his attention on Iraq, labeling them as part of an axis of evil . He proclaimed that they were in
the possession of weapons of mass destruction and had to be stop. Eventually, they captured the Iraqi
dictator Saddam Hussein but no weapons were discovered. In 2000 and again in 2004, Bush was
named the Person of the Year by Time magazine.

Things Fall Apart Culture Collision Essay
What comes up on mind when someone think about two cultures colliding? Sure they get a
lot of negative thoughts about it. Well, culture collisions are not always something that can ruin
your life. It can also give out some positive effects. Some people get destroyed from it while
others learn or find something new from it. It is always good to acknowledge the positive side of
things. The novel, Things Fall Apart gives an instance about this topic. It shows different
characters having divergent consequences about the culture collisions.
In Chinua Achebe s novel, Things Fall Apart, Nwoye is a major character that undergoes a
dramatic change after his introduction to colonialism and western ideals. Nwoye is transformed ...

Despite all that, Nwoye have also had some positive affects on himself. He gained confidence

mother and his siblings as he said, He would return later to his mother and his brothers and

well so that they could all be free from Okonkwo s power. All of these things that affected
Nwoye, changed his mind by making him courageous and stronger than before but also brought

Camouflage Brandy Analysis
Throughout history, Musicians have used songs to tell stories, raise questions, and express their
feelings. In Camouflage by Brandy Norwood, she conveys her realization that love comes naturally,
and no one should have to change who they are in order to be love by giving an ultimatum through the
use of metaphors, imagery, and word choices. This song is also empowering and uplifting through its
use of words. In Camouflage Brandy uses metaphor and imagery to reveal and embrace her
personality. I m a work in progress, I m a seed grown into a flower (Norwood 1 and 2). She compares
herself to a work in progress, which infers that she is unstable, disorganized, and is not complete as a
person. Brandy also states that she is a seed grown into a flower, a seed by itself is not seen as
beautiful, but as time passes it grows and the flower blooms. The flower that blossom has a pretty
color smells nice, and seen as beautiful and appreciated by people. Even with all of her flaws, she
realizes that I aint t perfect, Tell me who in the world is (Norwood, 5, 6). Brandy poses a question that

The Battle of Cold Harbor
The Battle of Cold Harbor in spring of 1864 was one of General Ulysses S. Grant s worst offensive
defeats during the Civil War. Grant failed to describe his mission command to his subordinate, direct
his units to correct movement, understand his operational environment, and lead his army with a
coordinated plan. Grant had a stronger, bigger, and better equipped army than his enemy, but his
failure in the mission command process led to fatal mistakes before and during the battle. Due to
failed leadership, the Union preparation for this war was so poor that it suffered nearly 7,000
casualties in under an hour, making it one of the most brutal confrontations of the Civil War.
Commanders must be able to describe their operation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Grant viewed his role as formulating general policies for the Union armies and leaving tactical
decisions to theater commanders. He favored bold attacks and maneuvers, however, while Meade felt
more comfortable waging set piece battles. Their approaches to fighting Lee were incompatible, and
friction was inevitable. (Civil War Series) Grant created a command problem that eventually resulted
in disaster when he decided to headquarters himself with the Army of the Potomac, Meade s forces,
and keep a close watch on Meade s every action. Grant explained that his concept was to make Meade
s commanding role seem as if Grant was in Washington and Meade were in the field with the troops as
much as possible, Grant issuing strategic orders for movement of the Potomac Army to Meade and
Meade executing them. Grant would issue the broad, general intent commands for moving and
maneuvering the Army of the Potomac and other Corps and Theatres, giving tactical control to Meade.
Though this was Grant s intent, his words and actions proved something different. Grant would often
take a much more active approach at tactics when working with his staff and subordinate generals, as
documented by a staff officer, Lieutenant Colonel Horace Porter. Porter stated that Grant practiced
sending his staff officers to critical points of the line to keep me promptly advised of what is taking
place and to pass to lower commanders Grant s views of immediate action

How Did Fidel Castro Rise To Power
Fidel was born on August 13th, 1926 in Cuba s Oriente province. His father owned a sugar plantation,
and originally lived in spain. Castro was the third of six children, and his mother was formerly a maid
to his father, and Castro was conceived while his father was still wed to his first wife. Eventually
Angel, his father, learned of his paternity to Fidel, and formally recognized him as his son when Fidel
was 17. He grew up in a wealthy environment, attending well off boarding schools. In school, he was
something of a troublemaker, more interested in sports and other activities than he was in his
education. He did however display intellectual prowess, and he attended El Colegio de Belen, where
he was a pitcher for their baseball team. He graduated in 1945 and attended The University of Havana,

many similarities with Soviet Russia, and their communist views. This caused tension among the US
and Cuba, due to the negative views of communism in the United States. Under his rule, literacy rates
and health care improved, but at great cost. Fidel commonly imprisoned those who spoke out against
him and his political views, taking away a great liberty from the people of Cuba, the freedom to have
your voice heard, and to let it resonate among the collective was stripped from the citizens, leaving
their mouths sewn shut. In my opinion, Castro was a tyrant who adulterated the sacred right that all
men and women should possess. In taking away his people s voices through LÚse majesté, he uprooted
any sense of power from the third estate, corrupting the Cuban government. With his death, perhaps
this will one day be remedied, but that is yet to be

The Effect of World War I on Civilians Essay
The Effect of World War I on Civilians
World War one was a military conflict which took place between 1914 and 1918. It involved many
European countries as well as America and other countries around the world. This war was one of the
most violent and destructive in European history.
World War I was the first total war. Once the war began, the countries involved mobilized their entire
populations and economic resources to achieve victory on the battlefield. The term home front, which
was widely employed for the first time during World War I, perfectly symbolized this new concept of
a war in which the civilian population behind the lines was directly and critically involved in the war
effort. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not everyone welcomed conscription though. Fifty MP s voted against the introduction of
conscription in parliament. Also those who opposed the war due to religious of political reasons were
also against conscription. It would be against their will to fight so they were named conscientious
objectors and nicknamed conchies . Conchies had to prove they had a genuine reason for not wanting
to fight and weren t just scared.
Also, in 1914 the government passed the Defence Of the Realm Act (DORA). It gave the government
massive powers to control many aspects of people s daily lives, this included being able to seize any
land or buildings, to control newspapers and the media and to take over any industries which were
important to the war effort. Immediately after introducing DORA the government took over the coal
mining industry so that the money was going towards the war rather than private owners.
In 1915, the government faced its first major problem of the war there was a shortage of munitions.
The munitions crisis as it was known as became a national scandal exposed by the Daily Mail. Due to
this crisis a coalition government was formed to work together to support the war effort. This coalition
included MP s from different parties. Under DORA,

The Physics Of Gravity Fed System
Gravity Fed System
In rural area of Cambodia, Water from the rainwater tank is supplied to the targeted facilities such as
houses and school by gravity. Gravity is a force that attracts all the objects on the Earth surface due to
the attraction exerted by the mass of the planet. This force usually fall at lowest point of the surface. In
this situation, the water in the tank flows down by its own weight through pipe and run out from taps.
It is applicable if the pipes and taps are lower than the level of the water in the tank itself. The formula
to calculate the force acting by the height of water is as follow:
P = ρgh where, [1]
W: Pressure of the water (Pa) ρ: density of water (kg/m3) g: gravity of the Earth (ms 2) h: height of
the water from the ground surface (m)
Figure 6 Illustration of the gravity force acting on the water
In addition, most of the rainwater tank in rural area of Cambodia are elevated rainwater tank and
ground level water tank. Both rainwater tanks use the force of gravity to transport water by pipework
to nearby houses. Main reason of using gravity force for water transportation due to it low
maintanence and running cost. In addition the level of services also consistence due to low
maintannece needs. Therefore for elevated rainwater tank, the foundation normally is built with four
reinforced concrete tower elevated between 4m up to 9m. For ground water tank, its foundation is
built 700mm above the ground level to provide sufficient

The Crime In The Speckled Band By Arthur Conan Doyle
When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?
was spoken by Sherlock Holmes, a famous English Literature icon, and Sherlock lived by this too.
Arthur Conan Doyle was a doctor who lived in Scotland, although he is more publicly known as the
author for the Sherlock Holmes mystery stories. While he never intended on becoming a writer, he has
still set the six fundamental requirements for a good mystery story. These six requirements include the
crime must be significant, the detective must be memorable, the criminal must be a worthy advisory or
opponent, the clues must be made available to the reader, the suspects must appear early in the story,
and the solution to the crime must be reasonable and plausible. While not all six elements are required

In a good detective story, a significant crime keeps the reader intrigued and on his or her feet, waiting
for the next page. For a crime to be significant, one must first figure out the crime and how it is
addressed. Then, it must be shown how important the crime is to the people and the story.
The Speckled Band. The crime in The Speckled Band was the murder of Julia, Helen s sister. The
crime was significant because Helen was afraid she would die, just as Julia did. Before Julia died, she
had signs that she told her sister, such as whistling and a few days later, she died. Once Julia began to
hear the whistling, she became anxious and went to seek help with her friend, Sherlock Holmes.
The Man with the Twisted Lip. The crime in The Man with the Twisted Lip was the murder of Neville
St. Clair. At first, the crime was significant. They could not find a body or anything relating to Neville

was only in disguise as a beggar named Boone.

The Rainbow Six Siege By Tom Clancy
There is a plethora of shooting games out in the world today. They come on virtually every platform
from cell phones to Computers and Xbox s. Many good games are overlooked for the more
mainstream ones such as Call of Duty whose games are extremely popular but at best subpar. One of
the best new shooters on the market today is Rainbow six Siege . One of many games in the Rainbow
six saga, Siege is the newest addition to Tom Clancy s brainchild tactical shooter series. The game
features realistic five on five tactical combat between two teams. One of the teams attacks, while the
other defends. Rainbow six s graphics are amazing for a console game and really has the power to
immerse a casual gamer. Rainbow also has a perfect formula for mixing in futuristic gadgets with real
counter terrorism style combat in small environments such as residential houses and large yachts.
Every operator has there own special gadget to gain the edge in combat and trying to guess which
operators the enemy team will use is crucial to survival. That being said, you do not make it very far
in Rainbow six without some sort of team work and collaboration as opposed to shooters such as Call
of Duty that have more of a one vs. all run and gun mentality. As the game is rated M for mature by
the ESRB, You will need to be over eighteen to purchase it. The strong rating is due to blood, drug
references, strong language and violence, which some parents may find okay for their children but

Introduction. So, While Doing My Best To Effectively Research
Introduction
So, while doing my best to effectively research the subject enough to write a paper on it, it became
rather apparent that I was not mathematically inclined enough to fully understand how the law actually
works. However, I was able to understand that the law has gone through a very long period of time
where researchers and theorists have worked and worked to prove that there is some form of proof that
this is more than a random occurrence, but still haven t come up with any REAL answer or proof. To
be more clear, most of the literature about the history of the subject, stretches so far as to say that
people truly believed that Benford s Law was more of a strange coincidence, or an act of god, rather
than proof of statistical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The actual measures of probability were discovered by the creator of Benford s Law, Frank Benford,
when he decided to test a strange occurrence described by an American astronomer by the name of
Simon Newcomb. In 1881, Newcomb noticed that the earlier pages of a textbook containing logarithm
tables, mainly with the leading number of one, were significantly more worn that latter pages. Benford
decided to see if there actually was a statistical reasoning to this.
Is this Relevant?
Benford took Newcomb s findings to a new level and began taking roughly 20,229 different
observations from a varied range of areas all the way from residential addresses to death rates
throughout many different areas. It was through this that he placed a value on the probability of the
occurrence of certain numbers within groups of related numerical data, thus providing the values
displayed above. (Nigrini, 1999) Considering the relatedness of the groups of numbers, but not exactly
the same context, we can then assume that Benford s Law would hold true for any group of related
data.
Hiding within another document I poured myself into in order to better understand the subject, I
noticed another coincidence. The article reiterated much of the background information regarding the
law and what it is for, but further down the line it provided another form of testing. It discussed that

Persuasive Essay On Cannibalism
We had to eat these dead bodies, and that was it , this is what Andes plane crash survivor, Roberto
Canessa, had to say about his experience with cannibalism. Cannibalism is the consumption of a
member of the same species. Consuming human flesh is lawful in the United States, therefore
cannibalism is legal (Eveleth). In the eyes of the law, murdering someone to eat is wrong, but the act
of eating a human is not. To Americans the simple thought of eating another human is sickening. To
most that is true, but to others consuming human flesh is a way of life. Some cultures practice
cannibalism for their own spiritual beliefs and others have to eat human flesh to survive. Human flesh
has proteins most want when eating meat. Thousands of years ago cannibalism had a different
reputation than it has today in American society. Cannibalism is a way to survive, with the proteins
necessary to do so, and a way for cultures to express their beliefs. Although there are many reasons to
eat human flesh, cannibalism is a taboo topic most people do not know enough about. People eat
people for a variety of reasons, the most well known being killers getting a thrill from eating their
victims. Although not everyone who is a cannibal gets a high from eating humans, Americans still see
it as evil. Jeffrey Dahmer is the most well known example of this, a man who gets a sexual desire
from killing and eating his victims. Everyone across America knew of this man and what he did, and
nobody would

Comparing The Characters Of Chuck Bass And Dan Humphrey
As popular characters of the outstanding TV series Gossip Girl, Chuck Bass and Dan Humphrey are
my two most liked characters. I admire how they are two completely different people, who come from
different backgrounds. Dan is the typical nerdy boy who can only get into an elite school by receiving
scholarships for his intelligence. Chuck on the other hand is a wealthy, greedy, and obnoxiously
captivating boy who buys people like Dan Humphrey to do his school work while he handles a part of
his father s business and womanizes any girl his father s money can buy. These two share an abundant
amount of contradictions.
Chuck is portrayed as an opulent and conceited vile boy in this popular series; with all of his rich and
fame he is truly the most well known character for assertiveness and the fact that he goes everywhere
in a limo. Even though he has a beastly personality, when it comes to the one who he truly loves and
adores he breaks down into a charming man unless it is his father. He receives abusive and neglecting
treatment from his father. Which is why he carries around so much hate in his heart because he never

Space Race Dbq
The Space Race was invoked by the growing technologies of the United States and Soviet Union s
space programs during the Cold War. The starting point of the Space Race was the launch of Sputnik 1
by the Soviet Union. The Space Race has impacted society greatly politcally, socially, and
economically. The Space Race was a very tense period of time in history because both the United
States and Soviet Union improved their technology to such a degree that the two countries have both
made it to space multiple times.
The Space Race has impacted the political, social, and economic aspects of the US society greatly. It
mainly affected the political aspect. A way that the lead of the Soviet Union in the Space Race affected
the US Society is the Vanguard rocket was prepared for launch at Cape Canaveral. On December
6/1957, the slender, delicate instrument was fired, began to rise, and then sank back down on itself,
crushing its engines and erupting into a huge fireball. The pathetic collapse was carried live on
television, right in front of the world. This was what we were capable of, while the Russians rode the
heavens (from Document F). Another reason why the US was very shocked is because that it took
them four years to catch up to our atomic bomb and nine months to catch up to our hydrogen bomb.
Now we are trying to catch up to their satellite (from Document B).

Priming Race in Biracial Observers Affects Visual Search for Black and White Faces
Introduction:
In this paper, we see how priming can be used as an experimental aid and to what extent it can
influence the subjects. Chiao, Heck, Nakayama, and Ambady (1) consider the notion of whether
priming a particular racial identity in a mixed race individual (specifically Black and White mix)
would influence the individual s ability to search for White or Black faces.
Previous Research forms new Experimental Hypothesis:
The authors interest in the application of priming to visual perception stems from a lack of empirical
research done in this particular field. Priming a certain social identity (race, gender, age, or
occupation) and its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Raters used a Likert scale from 1 (not at all) to 7 (very much), and they weren t treated blind (not told
the racial identity of the authors or their mother or father).
Results:
The raters came to the conclusion that White primed biracials are more likely than Black primed
biracials to be thinking about their White identity after writing the essay about their chosen parent s
ethnicity. Rates found that Black primed biracials are likely to be thinking of their Black identity than
White primed biracials. These results showed that the priming was effective in priming biracials to
identify more with one of their races.
The visual search results were based on mean search times. Outliers and incorrect responses from the
averages were excluded to maintain the consistency of the results. Building on previous research,
overall participants demonstrated a search advantage for Black faces. This Black target advantage was
larger for Black than for White participants. The results of the biracial participants most affected their
original hypothesis (it was what was developed by the authors on top of previously existing data).
Black primed biracials and White primed biracials different significantly in the magnitude of their
search advantage for Black over White targets, and the

The Evolution Of Optical Networks
Optical network is designed to transmit digital signals in the form of pulses of light. Optical fiber is
used as medium for transmission. Optical fiber is a thin, flexible, transparent fiber (glass or plastic)
that acts as a waveguide to transmit light between the ends of the fiber. Optical fiber consists of a
central glass core surrounded by a cladding layer whose refractive index is slightly lower than the core
index. Such fibers are generally referred to as step index fiber to distinguish them from graded index
fiber in which the refractive index of the core decreases gradually from center to core boundary.
Working principle for transmission is total internal reflection (TIR). Figure 1.1 Light propagation in

In such kinds of optical networks, both the traffic passing by and ending at a node is converted from
the optical domain to the electrical domain and switched electronically to an output port (including a
port that can drop traffic locally). Following electronic switching, the traffic passing by a node is
converted back to the optical domain before departing from the node. With the increase in data
transmission rate, electrical switching and optical electrical optical (OEO) conversion result in a
significant growth in complexity and cost for electronic devices. Therefore, reducing the burden
placed on the underlying electronic devices in a node and removing electronic switching for traffic
passing by a node became key factors in the development of second generation optical networks. The
switching and processing of bits were, however, handled in the electronic domain as before.
1.2.2 Second Generation Optical Networks
These networks were made capable of using multiple carrier wavelengths that were multiplexed onto a
single fiber thus offering increased bandwidth. The technique is called wavelength division
multiplexing. From technological point of view, incorporating the switching and routing functionality
in the optical domain and allowing for the transparency of data format, protocol and bit rates are the
achievements of second generation over

(e) Unauthorized absence with the intent to avoid maneuvers or field exercises (special type of duty

is not absent without leave while held by them under that delivery. When a member of the armed
forces, being absent with leave, or absent without leave, is held, tried, and acquitted by civilian
authorities, the member s status as absent with leave, or absent without leave, is not thereby changed,
regardless how long held. The fact that a member of the armed forces is convicted by the civilian

Alana Thompson s Here Comes Honey Boo
Here Comes Honey Boo Boo follows the story of beauty pageant competitor Alana Thompson and her
family. She originally made her reality TV debut on Toddlers and Tiaras, where even though she did
not place as well as the two other girls profiled in that episode, she made an impression on the viewers
with her funny comments and hyperactive personality. In Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, Alana shares
the spotlight with her crazy family. In the first episode alone, they are seen farting, eating food off the
floor, jumping into mud, and more. They claim that they are authentic and enjoy being themselves.

Education Of Autistic And Related Communication...
Abstract
Autism is a developmental disorder that is having a great effect on our nation. Something must be
done to slow the rising instances of cases of autism. Treatments and interventions must be
implemented into a child with autisms life. Without these interventions the level of autism in a child
will increase (Francis, 2005). The Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication
Handicapped Children (TEACCH) method and Early Intensive Behavior Interventions (EIBI) method
are two well known methods that help decrease the severity of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a
child (Francis, 2005). The two interventions differ in the age that they are implemented (MacDonald,

The two most useful and known interventions are the TEACCH method of intervention, which stands
for the Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children
(Francis, 2005). The other treatment method is the EIBI, Early Intensive Behavior Interventions. Both
of these methods are known for decreasing the effects but neither are foolproof methods (MacDonald,
Parry Cruwys, Dupere, Ahearn, 2014). Limiting the effects that Autism has on the body and limiting
the effects that Autism has on the individuals social life, are the main focus for many doctors and
therapists (Francis, 2005). The two methods differ drastically in the age group that the focus on. This
is where controversy is known to exist. The TEACCH method focuses on the intervention of school
age children, elementary through high school (Francis, 2005). The EIBI method focuses on
intervention in the toddler age (2 3) (Matson Konst, 2013). The two interventions show major aid to
decreasing the effects that ASD has on the body and has shown the change the lives of children with
autism throughout the world (Francis, 2005).
Methods
The TEACCH method is based on a Psychoeducational approach (Francis, 2005). The method is

My Love Short Story
I always thought that I did not need anyone but myself. A black and white world with only myself in
it. I never really cared for anyone; if I did they would be a family or a close friend. Anything romantic
was always thrown out of the window. I did not want to think about love or even pay attention to it.
That all changed when I fell in love. It changed my whole world and how I viewed it. It is not just
liking someone and being in a relationship; love is so much more than that. Love is a wonderful
feeling. Love took me to places I have never been before; it taught me a lot about myself; it is a wild
roller coaster ride.
It all started when I first met him. At the time, I did not think more than our growing friendship. We
had countless conversations about ourselves, other people, and just about anything. I learned our about
similarities and differences. I would often laugh at how predictable he is sometimes. Our differences
on the other hand did not hinder our relationship. I found it interesting how he could talk and it would
captivate me. The way he would tell stories or write a poem is like a gift. His voice is deep and
melodious, which made him sound like he was singing instead of speaking. He is smarter than anyone
I have ever met; a genius is a better word. Despite being smart, he was like a child. He often acts like a
mischievous little rascal. I became attached to him. He became a drug that I got addicted to. His gentle

Analyse the poem The Eolian Harp by Samuel Taylor...
The Eolian Harp by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, can be described as the musings of a man thinking
about his love for his wife Sara, the beauty of nature and about the wonder of God in providing him
with both nature and Sara. The voice of the poem is Coleridge himself as it refers to Sara, his wife at
the time of writing. It is a Romantic poem as it deals with a mixture of traditional Romantic themes:
those of strong feelings, the importance of the imagination and the idea of the sublime, and the natural
world.
The Eolian Harp is written in blank verse and has an irregular split into two verse paragraphs, one
long, one short. The form is lyrical as it deals with a mans thoughts and emotions but it is often
written in a conversational style, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The end of each line needs and makes more sense once the next line has been read.
In opposition to this quickening of pace is the use of caesura to cause a sudden thought provoking stop
in the middle of a line:The stilly murmur of the distant SeaTells us of Silence. (l.11 12)The effect of
using this technique at this point brings the thought to mind that we only truly hear the noise of the sea
when all else is silent. This sudden stop and silence seems a perfect way to introduce the main theme
as from this point on Coleridge talks about the Harp that is to dominate the tone of the poem until the
end of the first verse paragraph.
Coleridge uses a wonderful section of continuous alliteration from lines 17 20 in order to give depth to
the Harp:And now its stringsBoldlier swept, the long sequacious notesOver delicious surges sink and
rise,Such a soft floating witchery of sound (emphasis added) (l.17 19)The effect of this continuous use
of the s sound creates the effect of a gentle, flowing and moving sound much like the long, delicious,
floating sound that Coleridge tries to describe the harp as having. The actual effect of this alliteration
is to create a sensual, relaxing tone at this point in the poem.
Another technique of emphasis used throughout the poem is the use of imagery. Coleridge personifies
the nature around him by comparing it to abstract nouns the white flowerd Jasmin represents

The Effects Of Maternal Behavior On Mother Rats Essay
Two scholarly articles compared the different effects maternal behavior can have on mother rats later
on in their lifetime. A maternal behavior can be defined as an act of love and caring toward one s
young (2012). Memory, and the rats ability to learn a response were tested through two different
experiments. Learning was tested by a classical conditioning approach. Classical condition was first
discovered by Ivan Pavlov. The overall concept of classical conditioning is when a response is elicited
by a stimulus (Huitt Hummel, 1997). On the other hand, both articles studied rats with varying degrees
of maternal experience. Comparatively, rats estrogen cycles were tested in both articles. Overall, there
are five stages: proestrus, estrus, metestrus, diestrus, and anestrus. In rats, each cycle lasts about four
to five days in length. Unlike humans, rats reach puberty at only six to eight weeks old (Hill, 2016).
Twain articles were compared through a comparative analysis.
In the article Once a Mother Always a Mother: Maternal Experience Protects Females from the
Negative Effects of Stress on Learning, the researchers tested whether maternal rat behavior has a
lasting effect on learning due to stress with virgin and parous rats. The parous had already given birth
to at least one litter of pups. Throughout the experiment, the parous rats were not taking care of their
young or lactating. For this experiment, the independent variable was stress and maternal experience.

Advertisement Analysis Of Advertisement
Healthy living is a common goal for many individuals in today s society. Many individuals state that
the motive behind healthy living is to maintain their outward physical appearance; however, not as
much do individuals state that the reason for their healthy living is to maintain their inward physical
appearance, such as the health of major bodily organs. Eating healthy is vital to keeping bodily organs
functioning properly, and the advertisement, created by Fortis, portrays this. The advertisement tries to
encourage the audience to live a healthy lifestyle by making the decision to eat healthy from the use of
the emotional appeal in the text, and the connection between broccoli and kidneys in the picture.
These two techniques combine to make it easier to convince the viewer to eat healthy.
Before trying to understand the purpose of this advertisement, it s best to observe the creator of the
advertisement. As denoted by the emblem towards the bottom of the advertisement, it was created by a
healthcare company in India, named Fortis. Fortis is known internationally as one of the top medical
institutions in the world. By Fortis being a healthcare company, they often preach about making
healthy lifestyle choices. From their track record on encouraging the public to stay healthy, it is
expected that the motivation behind this advertisement is to do the same. The other emblem on the

Loyalty In The Odyssey Analysis
Odysseus in the epic poetry The Odyssey, written by Homer, is trying to make his way home after the
long and treacherous Trojan War, which he fought in. Odysseus throughout the book has gotten
himself into many tricky situations, however Athena, the goddess of wisdom and military victory, has
been beside him and aiding him through his journey home. Loyalty is an aspect of life, which Athena
portrays throughout the entire epic poetry. Athena throughout the epic poem, The Odyssey, has shown
her loyalty to Odysseus and his family in his journey to return home. In the beginning of the epic
poem, the hopeful words of Athena encouraged Telémakhos to gain intel on Odysseus s whereabouts.
Athena who is disguised as MentĂȘs is bringing hope into TelĂ©makhos about his father when she says,
He will not, now, be long away from Ithaka, his father s dear land; though he be in chains he ll scheme
a way to come; he can do anything. (page 7 8, lines 247 249) Athena says this so that Telémakhos will
not feel that his father has abandoned him, and that he will come home soon to fix the mess at home.
She is trying to make Telémakhos believe that his father will come home soon to see his son that he
had wanted to see for years. Telémakhos in this part of the text says, Friend, you have done me
kindness, like a father to his son, and I shall never forget you counsel ever. (pg 11, line 355 357)
Telémakhos through figurative language is portraying that Athena, who was a guest at his home was

GAAP uses to models for consolidation which are variable interest entities (VIE) and voting interest
entities. A concept does not exist for a firm with less than a majority of voting rights. According to
Ernst and Young (2011), another aspect of consolidation is the principle agent evaluation in control
assessment. This states that in VIEs, consolidation is based on economic considerations, while with
voting interest entities there is no explicit concept. Another aspect is consideration of kick out rights
and participating rights in control assessment. In this concept VIEs are substantive if unilaterally
exercisable by a single party (Ernst Young, 2011). Voting interest entities are exercisable by a majority
of parties. Consideration of related parties in control assessment states that VIEs have an aggregated
interest of related parties and de facto agents in some cases, while no consideration exists in voting
interest entities. In Investment Company accounting, the investment company records all of its
investments in entities at fair value. Where there is a decrease in ownership provisions, guidance

Essay Analysis of Daddy by Sylvia Plath
Analysis of Daddy by Sylvia Plath
Sylvia Plath uses her poem, Daddy, to express deep emotions toward her father s life and death. With
passionate articulation, she verbally turns over her feelings of rage, abandonment, confusion and grief.
Though this work is fraught with ambiguity, a reader can infer Plath s basic story. Her father was
apparently a Nazi soldier killed in World War II while she was young. Her statements about not
knowing even remotely where he was while he was in battle, the only photograph she has left of him
and how she chose to marry a man that reminded her of him elude to her grief in losing her father and
missing his presence. She also expresses a dark anger toward him for his political views and actions ...

She also presents a slight rhythm to the reading that allows for smooth reading. In keeping with her
open form, there is no set scheme to the rhyme pattern. However, there is a single ending sound
constantly repeated without a set pattern throughout the work. She also connects pairs of lines at
random just for the sake of making connections to make that particular stanza flow. At the same time,
she chose blatantly not to rhyme in certain parts to catch the reader s attention.
There are a few instances where imagery is used to carry out Plath s expression. To cite a particular
example that might lead a reader deduce their own ideas can be found in the last stanza: And the
villagers never liked you. / They are dancing and stamping on you. This undoubtedly expresses her
father s death and burial but more importantly it states a certain humiliation she faced from everyone
knowing what her father had died for, along with her own rage toward him. Another can be found in
lines 24 25: I never could talk to you. / The tongue stuck in my jaw. The picture of someone being
tongue tied along with her statement in line 41: I have always been scared of you, demonstrate just
that; she was fearful of her father. She also gives an image that provides the reader a view of how
Plath physically viewed her father and chose a man that she states reminds her of him: A man in black
with a Meinkampf look.

Analysis Of Place Beyond The Pines
Directed by Derek Cianfrance, Place Beyond the Pines (2012) is a multigenerational crime based
drama that changes narratives multiple times throughout the film. Following Ryan Gosling s character
s transition as he learns that he is a father, Bradley Cooper as the hero cop with both ambitions and a
conscious, and then both of their sons (Dane Dehaan, Emery Cohen) dealing with growing up without
present fathers. This multitude of narratives allows the viewer an insight into how each character

learning that he has a son, quits his job in an attempt to be present in the baby s life, unlike his own
father. With little persuasion from his landlord and roommate, he resorts to bank robbery in pursuit to
provide for his new family. After eventually being caught and killed by a trigger happy rookie cop,
(Bradley Cooper) the narrative changes to the new father and now hero cop. Bradley Cooper, an ex
lawyer whose father was also a cop, lies about who shot first to save both his reputation and his career,
deals with the guilt by focusing on his ambitions and shutting off his wife and newborn. The final

Personal Response To Tikkun Olam
As I write this, it is Rosh Hashanah, the first day of the Jewish year 5778. For the next ten days, Jews
will be introspective, and look critically at ourselves hoping to improve ourselves. Jews believe in the
concept of Tikkun Olam, which translates loosely to repairing the world; we believe humans have an
obligation outside of ourselves, to the planet and to other people. As my Rabbi sermonized, there are
people suffering across the globe, and whatever we can do, we must do, to alleviate suffering.
However, this idea is not only a religious one for me. My family worked for civil rights during the
turbulent 1960s. My parents worked with the Fair Housing Council of Los Angeles to desegregate our
white neighborhood. And, after the city of Watts was decimated by riots in 1965, my parents
volunteered at, and my sisters and I attended, a Head Start program there. This was a literacy pre

there should be Caucasian representation as well. So, partly because of my religious beliefs and partly

The first of the two sources to be examined here is Allen Guelzo s House Divided: Lincoln, Douglas,
and the Political Landscape of 1858. This source took a more technical examination of not just the
speeches and overall influence of Lincoln during this time, but also on where politics stood around the
middle of the nineteenth century. To begin with, this source took a more critical examination at the
Lincoln Douglas race from the perspective of the complex political situation that was inherent during
this time. That is to say, the campaigns that were waged were not merely about how viable each
candidate was for office, but rather the philosophical differences between these individuals and many
others, according to the source. This means that the source was able to take a closer look at why

Jack Johnson Wins The Olga Championship By Randy Roberts
The author, Randy Roberts in his article Jack Johnson wins the Heavyweight Championship sheds
light on the fight of Jack Johnson with Tommy Burns, he highlights the racial attitude in the twentieth
century. Roberts opens his article by mentioning about the concerned whites, as the author proceeds,
according to the whites it was a tragic and saddest day of their lives as the race won. While Dixie was
agitated, firstly because of the Booker T. Washington dined at the White House and secondly was the
victory of Jack Johnson. However, the blacks rejoiced all over the United States with this news.
Roberts mentions about a journalist report, it stated that the genuine satisfaction the blacks
experienced with the single victory of Johnson was not been observed in forty years.
The author then mentions many industries concern about the blacks being enthusiastic to enter in
boxing due to the triumph of Johnson, which may result in a shortage of labor. On the other hand, Jim
Nasium a black writer counseled many young blacks to take up boxing as a serious profession, he
believed that it is the boxing ring where blacks could face whites on an equal basis. There were many
reports implicating that Johnson had kick started the revolution.
According to the author, it started in August 1908, when Tommy Burns reached Perth. While from
Perth to Sydney, people came in large numbers to cheer him. During this occasions, Burns was asked
recurrently about his fight with Jack Johnson, to which he

Why Germany Lost the World War Two
Why Germany Lost the World War 2 After WW I Germany had many economic and political
problems that allowed Adolph Hitler to become ruler of Germany. After Hitler appointed himself
chancellor he started rebuilding the German military. After years of no international response to
breaking the Treaty of Versailles Germany attacked Poland. From 1939 to 1941 Germany had won
many victories; however 1941 was a turning point in the war. By the end of 1941 Germany would
continuously lose land to the allies with the exception of the Battle of the Bulge. The main reasons for
Germany s defeat were that they were fighting the war in too many fronts, poor leadership and the
invasion of Russia. Firstly, Germany is surrounded by nations capable of ... Show more content on

The Japanese sent a group of planes from the air force to bomb a small port in America named Pearl
Harbour. This fired the Americans up so much so that they joined the war to defeat Hitler. Deciding to
attack Russia was a bad idea, as well as declaring war on the US. Both of these countries could
substantially out produce Germany. Although Germany took the initiative both times, they may have
had little choice. The United States would have entered the war one way or another due to the fact that
Britain was their closest ally, and they could not sit and watch them be destroyed by Germany. Russia
was planning on entering the war a few months after Germany attacked her anyway. [This view that
the Soviet Union was preparing a pre emptive strike against Germany is not widely accepted]. Hence
even thought Germany was a powerful country over all, there were many things to work on which
brought this country down. Germany lost the war because of many reasons but the main three would
be fighting the war in too many fronts, poor leadership and the invasion of Russia. [ 1 ].

Accounting Microline Case
Memorandum
To: Sharon Sonneborn
From:
Date: 9/9/2012
Re: Potential Acquisition of Garmin Ltd. And Subsidiaries Garmin Ltd is under consideration for
acquisition by Mega Industries. As a result, an assessment of Microline s financial condition and
assessment is necessary to evaluate the company as a suitable candidate. Our team has prepared a
memo stating Microline s earning power potential , solvency position, and to which extent the
companies financial statements reflect the true financial position and performance. We have also
included an analysis regarding each of the six questions that you requested.
Microline s profits increased significantly from 2010 to 2011 with the net income of 2011 being over 3
times the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With regards to short term solvency Microline appears to be strong. Their current ratio rose from .94
in 2010 to 1.27 in 2011. Their quick ratio also rose from .52 in 2010 to .75 in 2011. The catalyst to this
increase comes mainly from an increase in assets and not a decrease in liabilities. A potential reason
for this increase could be due to the fact that Microline signed a ten year note with a debt covenant
stating that the company needed to maintain a current ratio of 1or the note will mature. This could
have led the company to increase their account receivables and inventory in order to bump up their
assets to meet the debt covenant. There interest coverage increased from 2010 to 2011 from 3.8 in
2010 to 5.75 in 2011. This shows an increase in solvency where the firm can cover the interest on it
loans 5.75 times. However, their solvency in terms of interest coverage comes into question as their
short term equities account for $2500 which is not a reflection of consistent cash flow generated from
sales. Without the presence of short term equities Microlines interest coverage actually falls from 3.8
in 2010 to 3.25 in 2011.
The long term solvency of Microline in is question as the company recently issued a long term note
and reclassified a short term note to long term which accounted for $7000. The direct result of this
shows an increase in the total debt from 47% in

Being confronted with a knife is always scary and always dangerous, but if it does happen there are a
few things to remember:
Stay calm by breathing deeply you can also try clenching and unclenching your hands so that you don
t freeze up.
Watch the criminals shoulders or chest, by looking in this area you can use your peripheral vision to
monitor the arms and hands. When the attack starts, the shoulders will move first.
You don t want to stare them in the eyes because they may be an extremely cold, cruel and terrifying
looking person, and this could intimidate you into inaction. If you are staring at their eyes and then
quickly start looking around, your eyes may give away your intention to attempt something.
Watch the upper part of the chest and shoulders, when they start to attack the shoulders will move

Act 3 Scene 3 as the Turning Point of the Play Othello by William Shakespeare
Shakespeare wrote Othello in 1602. During Elizabethan times there were very few black people in
England. The white people felt scared about the black people because they didn t understand them.
The play explores racism and mixed race relationships.
Shakespeare apparently felt free to handle Giraldi s story with perfect freedom. He transformed a
straggling narrative of sordid crime into compact drama and high tragedy. The masterly first act is
essentially Shakespeare s invention. In this act, Othello, who has eloped with Desdemona, is accused
of stealing her. Blinded by prejudice, Desdemona s father cannot believe his ... Show more content on

We can see the anger and the resentment of Iago towards Othello by looking at the words that Iago
uses while reffering to Othello, for example the Moor , the devil , an old black ram .
In terms of Iagos feelings towards Cassio, his feelings are of Jealousy because Iago expected him self
to be promoted. Cassio is being described by Iago as mere prattle without practice, is all his soldier
ship . These words show that Cassio does not have the necessary experience in order to be Othello s
lieutenant.
I hate the Moor and He s done my office are words of resentment used during the play and they
describe the way Iago feels towards Othello and his idea of promoting Cassio as his Lieutenant.
Othello is portrayed as a loyal and faithful soldier to the Venation government. This can be interpreted
from the following words that Othello uses himself.
My services which I have done the signiory
This describes Othello as being proud of the services that he has done for his government. Also he is
seen as someone who respects the power structure of the city because he uses words such as most
potent, grave, reverend signior , as well as very noble .
He is also portrayed as a brave and a skillful soldier who is essential for the Venetian Government

Social Instructivism And Second Language Acquisition
Social constructivism emerged as the dominant theory of learning in the 20th century as it not only
accounts for the cognitive process in constructing knowledge but also the cultural, social, and
collaborative nature of such process.
For more background information on social constructivism, see http://gsi.berkeley.edu/gsi guide
contents/learning theory research/social constructivism/ The impact of the social constructivist theory
was felt across the educational community, including the field of foreign language teaching. The
theories of second language acquisition (SLA) have evolved to reflect the research of learning
processes in general.
Move the paragraph to the beginning???? The reason behind my interest in the latest SLA hypotheses
is my professional and educational background. I have studied linguistics and second language
acquisition and for the past 10 years I ve been teaching English as a second language, English for
academic purposes as well as the Russian language. I have also worked as a language teacher educator
and in curriculum developer. Not only as a language teacher, but as foreign language learner myself, I
have been fascinated by the processes of learning and acquiring language. I try to continuously reflect
on effective ways to teach language and explore different teaching approaches. I am hoping that
revisiting educational theories and exploring the ways these theories are reflected in teaching practices
will better inform my work as a teacher and curriculum developer.
The understanding of second language acquisition has progressed from behaviorist (name theories
here) to constructivist Universal Grammar (Chomsky, year?), language instinct (Pinker, 1995), Input
Hypothesis (Krashen, 1985), Attention Processing model (McLaughlin, 1990, 1987), Explicit and
Implicit models (Ellis, 1994, 1997; Bialystok 1982, 1978, 1990) and, finally, to social constructivist
Interaction hypothesis (Long, 1981) later expanded on by Theresa Pica (year). (and complemented by
the comprehensible output hypothesis (Swain, 1995), Authenticity/Task based instruction (Selinger)
In order to better understand social constructivist theories in SLA, it is important to briefly mention
the ideas that influenced

Billy Joel
Billy Joel is an artist that brings my memories back. When my older brother was 12 years, he has
stayed on Long Island as an exchange student. When he came back home in Japan from the United
States, he told me that there was an awesome singer named Billy Joel in the U.S., and he started
singing his songs while playing the piano. He had what it takes to play the piano once listening to a
song. For me, an 8 year old girl, my brother who could sing cool songs while playing the piano looked
snazzy. Since then my brother and I used to sing his songs again and again. I have long been a fan of
Billy Joel since my brother brought Billy Joel to me. If he had held a concert at the Rip City, I had
wanted to attend his concert to listen to old songs I had sung in tune with his piano. ... Show more

It is said that they delighted in Joel s words tonight I m going to do the old stuff. Joel gave the
audience what they want, and his final tour turned out to be a great success. In an article TAKE IT
FROM BILLY JOEL, the author points out the same is true for a speaker. While an entertainer or
communicator must feel passionate about their message, that message should be synchronized with
the audience s psyche and desire. To identify the audience is a key to effective communication.
Effective use of audience centered approach
Billy Joel is not only an extraordinary entertainer but also a great communicator in the terms of the
fact he sent his message in a way that was meaningful to the audience. He performed his hit songs
with brief descriptions to satisfied with his fans expectations and talked many positive things about
New Jersey where the audience lived. He created a friendly atmosphere to make jokes about the
audience. He got his audience hooked by identifying his audience s expectations, living, ages, and
norms.

In the final showdown, it was between Bush and Vice President Al Gore in one of the closest elections ever. After a third recount, Bush received 271 electoral votes to Gore s 266 and became the 43rd President of the United States. However, he lost the popular vote by more than half a million votes. His fist initiative as President was the No Child Left Behind Act, which raised standards in schools and insisted on accountability in return for federal dollars. The most significant event during Bush s reign came on September 11, 2001 when terrorists hijacked several planes and attacked American soil killing nearly 3,000 people. In response to the attack, Bush established the Department of Homeland Security and announced the War on Terrorism which still continues to this day. Bush focused his attention on Iraq, labeling them as part of an axis of evil . He proclaimed that they were in the possession of weapons of mass destruction and had to be stop. Well, culture collisions are not always something that can ruin your life. It can also give out some positive effects. Some people get destroyed from it while others learn or find something new from it. It is always good to acknowledge the positive side of things. The novel, Things Fall Apart gives an instance about this topic. It shows different characters having divergent consequences about the culture collisions. In Camouflage by Brandy Norwood, she conveys her realization that love comes naturally, and no one should have to change who they are in order to be love by giving an ultimatum through the use of metaphors, imagery, and word choices. This song is also empowering and uplifting through its use of words. In Camouflage Brandy uses metaphor and imagery to reveal and embrace her personality. I m a work in progress, I m a seed grown into a flower (Norwood 1 and 2). She compares herself to a work in progress, which infers that she is unstable, disorganized, and is not complete as a person. Brandy also states that she is a seed grown into a flower, a seed by itself is not seen as beautiful, but as time passes it grows and the flower blooms. The flower that blossom has a pretty color smells nice, and seen as beautiful and appreciated by people. Even with all of her flaws, she realizes that I aint t perfect, Tell me who in the world is (Norwood, 5, 6). Brandy poses a question that helps her come to terms with not being the best. • 6. The Battle of Cold Harbor The Battle of Cold Harbor in spring of 1864 was one of General Ulysses S. Grant s worst offensive defeats during the Civil War. Grant failed to describe his mission command to his subordinate, direct his units to correct movement, understand his operational environment, and lead his army with a coordinated plan. Grant had a stronger, bigger, and better equipped army than his enemy, but his failure in the mission command process led to fatal mistakes before and during the battle. Due to failed leadership, the Union preparation for this war was so poor that it suffered nearly 7,000 casualties in under an hour, making it one of the most brutal confrontations of the Civil War. Commanders must be able to describe their operation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Grant viewed his role as formulating general policies for the Union armies and leaving tactical decisions to theater commanders. He favored bold attacks and maneuvers, however, while Meade felt more comfortable waging set piece battles. Their approaches to fighting Lee were incompatible, and friction was inevitable. (Civil War Series) Grant created a command problem that eventually resulted in disaster when he decided to headquarters himself with the Army of the Potomac, Meade s forces, and keep a close watch on Meade s every action. Grant explained that his concept was to make Meade s commanding role seem as if Grant was in Washington and Meade were in the field with the troops as much as possible, Grant issuing strategic orders for movement of the Potomac Army to Meade and Meade executing them. Grant would issue the broad, general intent commands for moving and maneuvering the Army of the Potomac and other Corps and Theatres, giving tactical control to Meade. Though this was Grant s intent, his words and actions proved something different. Grant would often take a much more active approach at tactics when working with his staff and subordinate generals, as documented by a staff officer, Lieutenant Colonel Horace Porter. Porter stated that Grant practiced sending his staff officers to critical points of the line to keep me promptly advised of what is taking place and to pass to lower commanders Grant s views of immediate action ... Castro was the third of six children, and his mother was formerly a maid to his father, and Castro was conceived while his father was still wed to his first wife. Eventually Angel, his father, learned of his paternity to Fidel, and formally recognized him as his son when Fidel was 17. He grew up in a wealthy environment, attending well off boarding schools. • 10. The Physics Of Gravity Fed System Gravity Fed System In rural area of Cambodia, Water from the rainwater tank is supplied to the targeted facilities such as houses and school by gravity. Gravity is a force that attracts all the objects on the Earth surface due to the attraction exerted by the mass of the planet. This force usually fall at lowest point of the surface. In this situation, the water in the tank flows down by its own weight through pipe and run out from taps. It is applicable if the pipes and taps are lower than the level of the water in the tank itself. The formula to calculate the force acting by the height of water is as follow: P = ρgh where, [1] W: Pressure of the water (Pa) ρ: density of water (kg/m3) g: gravity of the Earth (ms 2) h: height of the water from the ground surface (m) Figure 6 Illustration of the gravity force acting on the water In addition, most of the rainwater tank in rural area of Cambodia are elevated rainwater tank and ground level water tank. Both rainwater tanks use the force of gravity to transport water by pipework to nearby houses. Main reason of using gravity force for water transportation due to it low maintanence and running cost. In addition the level of services also consistence due to low maintannece needs. • 12. The Rainbow Six Siege By Tom Clancy There is a plethora of shooting games out in the world today. They come on virtually every platform from cell phones to Computers and Xbox s. Many good games are overlooked for the more mainstream ones such as Call of Duty whose games are extremely popular but at best subpar. One of the best new shooters on the market today is Rainbow six Siege . One of many games in the Rainbow six saga, Siege is the newest addition to Tom Clancy s brainchild tactical shooter series. The game features realistic five on five tactical combat between two teams. One of the teams attacks, while the other defends. Rainbow six s graphics are amazing for a console game and really has the power to immerse a casual gamer. Rainbow also has a perfect formula for mixing in futuristic gadgets with real counter terrorism style combat in small environments such as residential houses and large yachts. Every operator has there own special gadget to gain the edge in combat and trying to guess which operators the enemy team will use is crucial to survival. That being said, you do not make it very far in Rainbow six without some sort of team work and collaboration as opposed to shooters such as Call of Duty that have more of a one vs. all run and gun mentality. As the game is rated M for mature by the ESRB, You will need to be over eighteen to purchase it. The strong rating is due to blood, drug references, strong language and violence, which some parents may find okay for their children but some may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So, While Doing My Best To Effectively Research Introduction So, while doing my best to effectively research the subject enough to write a paper on it, it became rather apparent that I was not mathematically inclined enough to fully understand how the law actually works. However, I was able to understand that the law has gone through a very long period of time where researchers and theorists have worked and worked to prove that there is some form of proof that this is more than a random occurrence, but still haven t come up with any REAL answer or proof. To be more clear, most of the literature about the history of the subject, stretches so far as to say that people truly believed that Benford s Law was more of a strange coincidence, or an act of god, rather than proof of statistical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The actual measures of probability were discovered by the creator of Benford s Law, Frank Benford, when he decided to test a strange occurrence described by an American astronomer by the name of Simon Newcomb. In 1881, Newcomb noticed that the earlier pages of a textbook containing logarithm tables, mainly with the leading number of one, were significantly more worn that latter pages. Benford decided to see if there actually was a statistical reasoning to this. Is this Relevant? Benford took Newcomb s findings to a new level and began taking roughly 20,229 different observations from a varied range of areas all the way from residential addresses to death rates throughout many different areas. It was through this that he placed a value on the probability of the occurrence of certain numbers within groups of related numerical data, thus providing the values displayed above. (Nigrini, 1999) Considering the relatedness of the groups of numbers, but not exactly the same context, we can then assume that Benford s Law would hold true for any group of related data. Hiding within another document I poured myself into in order to better understand the subject, I noticed another coincidence. The article reiterated much of the background information regarding the law and what it is for, but further down the line it provided another form of testing. It discussed that for their ... • 14. Persuasive Essay On Cannibalism We had to eat these dead bodies, and that was it , this is what Andes plane crash survivor, Roberto Canessa, had to say about his experience with cannibalism. Cannibalism is the consumption of a member of the same species. Consuming human flesh is lawful in the United States, therefore cannibalism is legal (Eveleth). In the eyes of the law, murdering someone to eat is wrong, but the act of eating a human is not. To Americans the simple thought of eating another human is sickening. To most that is true, but to others consuming human flesh is a way of life. Some cultures practice cannibalism for their own spiritual beliefs and others have to eat human flesh to survive. Human flesh has proteins most want when eating meat. Thousands of years ago cannibalism had a different reputation than it has today in American society. Cannibalism is a way to survive, with the proteins necessary to do so, and a way for cultures to express their beliefs. Although there are many reasons to eat human flesh, cannibalism is a taboo topic most people do not know enough about. People eat people for a variety of reasons, the most well known being killers getting a thrill from eating their victims. Although not everyone who is a cannibal gets a high from eating humans, Americans still see it as evil. Jeffrey Dahmer is the most well known example of this, a man who gets a sexual desire from killing and eating his victims. Everyone across America knew of this man and what he did, and nobody would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I admire how they are two completely different people, who come from different backgrounds. Dan is the typical nerdy boy who can only get into an elite school by receiving scholarships for his intelligence. Chuck on the other hand is a wealthy, greedy, and obnoxiously captivating boy who buys people like Dan Humphrey to do his school work while he handles a part of his father s business and womanizes any girl his father s money can buy. These two share an abundant amount of contradictions. Chuck is portrayed as an opulent and conceited vile boy in this popular series; with all of his rich and fame he is truly the most well known character for assertiveness and the fact that he goes everywhere in a limo. Even though he has a beastly personality, when it comes to the one who he truly loves and adores he breaks down into a charming man unless it is his father. The starting point of the Space Race was the launch of Sputnik 1 by the Soviet Union. The Space Race has impacted society greatly politcally, socially, and economically. The Space Race was a very tense period of time in history because both the United States and Soviet Union improved their technology to such a degree that the two countries have both made it to space multiple times. The Space Race has impacted the political, social, and economic aspects of the US society greatly. It mainly affected the political aspect. A way that the lead of the Soviet Union in the Space Race affected the US Society is the Vanguard rocket was prepared for launch at Cape Canaveral. On December 6/1957, the slender, delicate instrument was fired, began to rise, and then sank back down on itself, crushing its engines and erupting into a huge fireball. The pathetic collapse was carried live on television, right in front of the world. This was what we were capable of, while the Russians rode the heavens (from Document F). Priming Race in Biracial Observers Affects Visual Search for Black and White Faces Introduction: In this paper, we see how priming can be used as an experimental aid and to what extent it can influence the subjects. Chiao, Heck, Nakayama, and Ambady (1) consider the notion of whether priming a particular racial identity in a mixed race individual (specifically Black and White mix) would influence the individual s ability to search for White or Black faces. Previous Research forms new Experimental Hypothesis: The authors interest in the application of priming to visual perception stems from a lack of empirical research done in this particular field. Raters used a Likert scale from 1 (not at all) to 7 (very much), and they weren t treated blind (not told the racial identity of the authors or their mother or father). Rates found that Black primed biracials are likely to be thinking of their Black identity than White primed biracials. These results showed that the priming was effective in priming biracials to identify more with one of their races. The visual search results were based on mean search times. Outliers and incorrect responses from the averages were excluded to maintain the consistency of the results. Building on previous research, overall participants demonstrated a search advantage for Black faces. This Black target advantage was larger for Black than for White participants. The results of the biracial participants most affected their original hypothesis (it was what was developed by the authors on top of previously existing data). • 18. The Evolution Of Optical Networks Optical network is designed to transmit digital signals in the form of pulses of light. Optical fiber is used as medium for transmission. Optical fiber is a thin, flexible, transparent fiber (glass or plastic) that acts as a waveguide to transmit light between the ends of the fiber. Optical fiber consists of a central glass core surrounded by a cladding layer whose refractive index is slightly lower than the core index. Such fibers are generally referred to as step index fiber to distinguish them from graded index fiber in which the refractive index of the core decreases gradually from center to core boundary. Working principle for transmission is total internal reflection (TIR). Figure 1.1 Light propagation in fiber Optical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In such kinds of optical networks, both the traffic passing by and ending at a node is converted from the optical domain to the electrical domain and switched electronically to an output port (including a port that can drop traffic locally). Following electronic switching, the traffic passing by a node is converted back to the optical domain before departing from the node. With the increase in data transmission rate, electrical switching and optical electrical optical (OEO) conversion result in a significant growth in complexity and cost for electronic devices. Therefore, reducing the burden placed on the underlying electronic devices in a node and removing electronic switching for traffic passing by a node became key factors in the development of second generation optical networks. The switching and processing of bits were, however, handled in the electronic domain as before. 1.2.2 Second Generation Optical Networks These networks were made capable of using multiple carrier wavelengths that were multiplexed onto a single fiber thus offering increased bandwidth. The technique is called wavelength division multiplexing. When a member of the armed forces, being absent with leave, or absent without leave, is held, tried, and acquitted by civilian authorities, the member s status as absent with leave, or absent without leave, is not thereby changed, regardless how long held. The fact that a member of the armed forces is convicted by the civilian authorities, or adjudicated to be a juvenile offender, or the case is diverted out of the regular criminal process for a probationary period does not excuse any unauthorized absence, because the member s inability to return was the result of willful misconduct. If a member is released by the civilian authorities with out trial, and was on authorized leave at the time of arrest or detention, the member may be found guilty of unauthorized absence only if it is proved that the member actually committed the offense for which detained, thus establishing that the absence was the result of the member s own misconduct. The Eolian Harp by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, can be described as the musings of a man thinking about his love for his wife Sara, the beauty of nature and about the wonder of God in providing him with both nature and Sara. The voice of the poem is Coleridge himself as it refers to Sara, his wife at the time of writing. It is a Romantic poem as it deals with a mixture of traditional Romantic themes: those of strong feelings, the importance of the imagination and the idea of the sublime, and the natural world. In opposition to this quickening of pace is the use of caesura to cause a sudden thought provoking stop in the middle of a line:The stilly murmur of the distant SeaTells us of Silence. (l.11 12)The effect of using this technique at this point brings the thought to mind that we only truly hear the noise of the sea when all else is silent. This sudden stop and silence seems a perfect way to introduce the main theme as from this point on Coleridge talks about the Harp that is to dominate the tone of the poem until the end of the first verse paragraph. Coleridge uses a wonderful section of continuous alliteration from lines 17 20 in order to give depth to the Harp:And now its stringsBoldlier swept, the long sequacious notesOver delicious surges sink and rise,Such a soft floating witchery of sound (emphasis added) (l.17 19)The effect of this continuous use of the s sound creates the effect of a gentle, flowing and moving sound much like the long, delicious, floating sound that Coleridge tries to describe the harp as having. • 27. The Effects Of Maternal Behavior On Mother Rats Essay Two scholarly articles compared the different effects maternal behavior can have on mother rats later on in their lifetime. A maternal behavior can be defined as an act of love and caring toward one s young (2012). Memory, and the rats ability to learn a response were tested through two different experiments. Learning was tested by a classical conditioning approach. Classical condition was first discovered by Ivan Pavlov. The overall concept of classical conditioning is when a response is elicited by a stimulus (Huitt Hummel, 1997). On the other hand, both articles studied rats with varying degrees of maternal experience. Comparatively, rats estrogen cycles were tested in both articles. Overall, there are five stages: proestrus, estrus, metestrus, diestrus, and anestrus. In rats, each cycle lasts about four to five days in length. Unlike humans, rats reach puberty at only six to eight weeks old (Hill, 2016). Twain articles were compared through a comparative analysis. In the article Once a Mother Always a Mother: Maternal Experience Protects Females from the Negative Effects of Stress on Learning, the researchers tested whether maternal rat behavior has a lasting effect on learning due to stress with virgin and parous rats. The parous had already given birth to at least one litter of pups. Throughout the experiment, the parous rats were not taking care of their young or lactating. For this experiment, the independent variable was stress and maternal experience. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In his essay, he writes about how the world is biophysically finite. He believes that the more people there are the less each person s share will be. This was a main point in his essay. He goes on to talk about how agricultural cannot help fix this problem and how we can t both maximize the number of people and satisfy every desire or good of everyone since every person has a different good/desire. While the more the population increases the more land is being used and resources are being taken up, I do not think it is right to deny women the right to have more than one child. This is not good for a various amount of reasons. One reason is because if a woman were to get pregnant more than once then she would be forced to get rid of that child which causes a lot of emotional distress to woman. In China, they had the one child policy, which allowed women to only have one child in populated areas. The Chinese government claimed the one child policy prevented around 400 million childbirths, but other studies outside of China have predicted that the law only prevented around 100 million childbirths, which really is not that significant in my ... This source took a more technical examination of not just the speeches and overall influence of Lincoln during this time, but also on where politics stood around the middle of the nineteenth century. To begin with, this source took a more critical examination at the Lincoln Douglas race from the perspective of the complex political situation that was inherent during this time. That is to say, the campaigns that were waged were not merely about how viable each candidate was for office, but rather the philosophical differences between these individuals and many others, according to the source. This means that the source was able to take a closer look at why Abraham Lincoln, as well as Douglas, actually believed what they did. This retrospective aspect of the source allowed ... In the process, the author is able to create something of a profile within each of these major historical figures, and this is important because it allows each of these figures to represent a different priority or concept within politics in general. After Hitler appointed himself chancellor he started rebuilding the German military. After years of no international response to breaking the Treaty of Versailles Germany attacked Poland. From 1939 to 1941 Germany had won many victories; however 1941 was a turning point in the war. By the end of 1941 Germany would continuously lose land to the allies with the exception of the Battle of the Bulge. The catalyst to this increase comes mainly from an increase in assets and not a decrease in liabilities. A potential reason for this increase could be due to the fact that Microline signed a ten year note with a debt covenant stating that the company needed to maintain a current ratio of 1or the note will mature. This could have led the company to increase their account receivables and inventory in order to bump up their assets to meet the debt covenant. There interest coverage increased from 2010 to 2011 from 3.8 in 2010 to 5.75 in 2011. This shows an increase in solvency where the firm can cover the interest on it loans 5.75 times. • 49. Social Instructivism And Second Language Acquisition Social constructivism emerged as the dominant theory of learning in the 20th century as it not only accounts for the cognitive process in constructing knowledge but also the cultural, social, and collaborative nature of such process. For more background information on social constructivism, see http://gsi.berkeley.edu/gsi guide contents/learning theory research/social constructivism/ The impact of the social constructivist theory was felt across the educational community, including the field of foreign language teaching. The theories of second language acquisition (SLA) have evolved to reflect the research of learning processes in general. Move the paragraph to the beginning???? The reason behind my interest in the latest SLA hypotheses is my professional and educational background. I have studied linguistics and second language acquisition and for the past 10 years I ve been teaching English as a second language, English for academic purposes as well as the Russian language. I have also worked as a language teacher educator and in curriculum developer. Not only as a language teacher, but as foreign language learner myself, I have been fascinated by the processes of learning and acquiring language. I try to continuously reflect on effective ways to teach language and explore different teaching approaches. I am hoping that revisiting educational theories and exploring the ways these theories are reflected in teaching practices will better inform my work as a teacher and curriculum developer. The understanding of second language acquisition has progressed from behaviorist (name theories here) to constructivist Universal Grammar (Chomsky, year?), language instinct (Pinker, 1995), Input Hypothesis (Krashen, 1985), Attention Processing model (McLaughlin, 1990, 1987), Explicit and Implicit models (Ellis, 1994, 1997; Bialystok 1982, 1978, 1990) and, finally, to social constructivist Interaction hypothesis (Long, 1981) later expanded on by Theresa Pica (year). (and complemented by the comprehensible output hypothesis (Swain, 1995), Authenticity/Task based instruction (Selinger) In order to better understand social constructivist theories in SLA, it is important to briefly mention the ideas that influenced ...
