Malnutrition, Its Impacts And Consequences Essay
Discuss and define malnutrition, its impacts and consequences in both adult and paediatric patients,
reflecting on your experiences from classroom discussions, A placement and the key evidence base.
Include discussions of screening and use of the nutrition support algorithm and describe and discuss
the tools used in settings to enable effective nutritionsupport.
Malnutrition is the imbalance of body nutrients, energy and protein, which cause negative impacts
on the body and its functions. Imbalances can mean levels exceed bodily requirements
(overnutrition), leading to conditions like obesity and vitamin overdose effects. Malnutrition also
refers to insufficient intake (undernutrition), which can cause conditions such as anaemia.
From a clinical perspective, malnutrition is a body mass index (BMI) of less than 18.5kg/m2,
unintentional weight loss greater than 10% within the last 3 6 months, a BMI of less than 20kg/m2
and unintentional weight loss greater than 5% within the last 3 6 months (Malnutrition Task Force,
2013, p.7).
One suggested cause of malnutrition is financial limitations, as not all families can afford
nutritionally rich, balanced diets. The National Children s Home (NCH) Poverty and Nutrition
Survey 1991 found that two thirds of children and more than ВЅ of the parents (of families
attending NCH Family Centres) were eating nutritionally inadequate diets (Leather, 1996, p.20).
From A Placement observation of a paediatric outpatient clinic, it is evident that

The Effects Of Cigarette Smoking On The Body And Others
Introduction Cigarette smoking is one of the most common known causes of diseases. It has a
negative effect on the body and others who are around the person smoking, but being able to quit
can positively change a person s health. Nicotine is one of the biggest component in a cigarette, it
stimulates the central nervous system which then gives the smoker a pleasurable feeling. The
cigarette s stimulants make smokingvery addictive, which causes smoking cessation challenging
for a person. There are now various amounts of ways to help them gradually stop, and the number
of different alternatives that are readily available can greatly affect the person s habits. One
common way to help smoking cessation is the use of an electronic cigarette.... Show more content

The study by Bullen et al. (2013) and Hann, Mnatzaganian, Rahman, Wilson, and Worall Carter
(2015) states that e cigarettes without nicotine is not as effective for cessation. This is due to the
fact that it does not have the same effect as a regular cigarette, which contains nicotine. In the
study conducted by Bullen et al. (2013), out of the 73 people who were given placebo e
cigarettes, only 3 were able to continue their cessation after six months (p.1633). The results of
these studies can be due to the fact that the e cigarette does not contain nicotine and the smoker is
not getting the pleasurable feeling a nicotine gives. The results of the use of e cigarettes with
nicotine resulted with a higher outcome, which will be explained in Alternatives with Nicotine. A
device that contradicts the previous study because evidence shows that it can actually help is a
nicotine free inhalator. This only allows the person to replace the physical gestures that they
associate with smoking a regular cigarette, such as hand to mouth action. By using this technique,
Arcidiacono et al. (2011) implemented this in a smoking cessation program for a six month study,
they recruited smokers that exhaled a certain amount of carbon monoxide. Within the six months,
they compared the results of week four to week twenty four. Week four consisted of 23 out of the
60 to successfully quit and by week

Influence of Cultures on The Thousand and One Nights Essay...
Stories like Sindbad, Aladdin and the Magic Lamp and other popular stories are very common
today in the western culture. Animated movies were also made for the entertainment of kids on
these popular stories. One might wonder that where these stories originated and how it came down
and made place in the western culture. Although these stories are very popular in both the western
culture and the eastern culture but the original literary work is not so popular in common people.
Theses stories are some of the stories from the Arabic work The Thousand and One Nights. The

The same is claimed by Goitein as he says that the first element in the tile of popular book:
В‘One Thousand Nights is very old, as it is an adaptation of the Persian hezar efsane, which
means В‘A Thousand Stories, according to various Muslim writers the name of a pre Islamic

reference to The Thousand and One Nights by name dates back to the work of Masoudi in the
tenth century where it is said to be based on a Persian work. (112 24) All of these authors date
back the work to the same era. Although the time period it was originated has been a topic of study
but the author of the work is unknown and not talked about by any of these reviewers.
The title of this work has a history also, that how it is called The Thousand and One Nights. As
the work was and adaptation of the Persian hezar efsane which literally means В‘thousand stories ,
it got its name of Alf Laila. (Youssef) This title was changed to The Thousand and One Nights later

A marginal note in a fragmentary manuscript of the Fihrist states that the book was called One

Essay On How To Grow Tomato From A Seedling
How to Grow Tomatoes from a Seedling
Growing tomatoes is a simple and rewarding task, and more people should be growing them. This
paper walks readers through the main steps for growing and maintaining patio tomatoes from a
seedling.
The first step in growing tomatoes is determining if you have the appropriate available space and
sunlight to grow them. All tomato varieties require full sunlight, which means at least six hours of
direct sun every day. If you have south facing windows or a patio or backyard that receives direct
sunlight, you should be able to grow tomatoes. Choose the location that receives the most sun.
Next, you need to find the right seedling. Growing tomatoes and other vegetables from seeds can

The containers can be used in the house, on a patio, or anywhere in the backyard, and they are
portable. Containers also tend to better regulate moisture and drain excess water. Choose a
container that is at least 10 inches in diameter and at least 1 foot deep. This will provide sufficient
room for root development.
In addition to the container, you also need the appropriate soil mixture and draining mechanisms.
For the best drainage, fill the bottom of your container with 2 or 3 inches of gravel. On top of the
gravel, fill Вѕ of the container with soil. Choose a well balanced organic soil. The three main
ingredients you will find described on soil bags are N P K that is, nitrogen, phosphorus, and
potassium. Without going into too much detail about the role of each element in plant growth, I will
tell you that an average vegetable will grow fine in a 10 5 5 mixture. This ratio, too, will be easy to
find at your local nursery.
Once you have the gravel in the bottom of the container and the soil on top, you are ready to
transplant the tomato. Pick up the tomato in the plastic container it comes in from the nursery. Turn
it upside down, and holding the stem between your fingers, pat the bottom lightly several times, and
the plant should fall into your hand. Next, you should gently break up the root ball that formed in
the nursery container with your hands. Be gentle, but be sure to

At the same time, the look and power of didactic religious images was recognized, especially if
they involved pagan and Jewish iconography. According to research Roman style was adapted to
the new faith, but it may have proven incompatible with Christian subject matter: Classical art
expressed the physical and the here and now; Christian art concerned itself with the spiritual and
the hereafter (Pearson, 2010). Christian art gradually moved away from the naturalism,
illusionism, solid objects and flesh and blood figures of Classical art, for Christian artists did
not care to extend our empirical world, but rather hoped to create otherworldly realms. In
conclusion the Christian art had many influence in such as pagan inspired themes. They wasn t

pagans had more money a lot of their art work would still be around because they would had
enough money to buy quality supply. The art would back in the early Christian stage was a lot
of recycled stuff; they would see some work of somebody else and flip it around and make it
their own. The Christian was always skeptical of doing art work with the devil in it because they
were afraid that they would be worshiping the devil did art work on it. Sources 1. Beckwith, John,

Why I Should Be A Nurse
I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a nurse. As I applied to many schools in the early
season of my senior year, I questioned what I would take into consideration as I chose a college.
Choosing a school based on my major is something I thought was normal. For this reason, I
really took the time to consider and weigh my options. Hence, one option that was very apparent,
is the location of the nursing school. Some colleges have a separate medical campus located in
major cities with access to large hospitals, while some have the hospitals and offices right down
the street on campus. I weighed the option of what would best fit my experience for a lot longer
than I was expecting. At times, I considered maybe it would be beneficial to stay on campus
since college only happens once and people say it is the best years of your life. I was
simultaneously thinking, maybe it is better to stay focused on my career by moving away. As this
decision came closer, I decided I would visit a few schools with either an on campus medical
center, such as the Universityof Missouri and the University of Utah, or an off campus medical
center, like that of Baylor or the University of Oklahoma. Baylor s nursing school is the one that
definitely ensured my choice of where I wanted to attend college from the welcoming community it
appears to have. However, I was still unsure about the moving after junior year. If you are like me
considering the location of the nursing campus, you possibly

The Rational Decision Making Model Essay
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The purpose of this report is to provide feedback on administrative and public policy violation
issues in the city of Crestview located in Okaloosa County, Florida. The report analyzes public
policy violations, City Council member adjudication, transparency, and leadership issues in the City
of Crestview. The report uses various research methods to gather data to help formulate the
conclusion and recommendations of the report.
The rational decision making model is utilized to make the best decision possible. The rational
decision making model is the best known prescriptive model; the model involves several sequential
steps: identifying the problem, determining the goals and objectives, identifying and evaluating
alternative policies, choosing from the alternatives, recommending actions, implementation, and
evaluation (Smith, 2014). The use of this model is justified as it provides structure and sequence
to the choices of the decision maker. The model helps ensure key indicators can be fully considered
in a logical manner.
It is recommended that the administration create new procedures and implement trainings or classes
to educate City Council members, employees and other city officials on new public policies as
well as the Sunshine Law. These trainings will outline laws, policies and ordinances as well as
target times for legislators to move any issue from the systemic agenda to the formal agenda; this
policy should allow for research on Crestview s

The Serpent-Vampire in Keats Lamia Essay
The Serpent Vampire in Keats s Lamia
The origin of the lamia myth lies in one of the love affairs of Zeus. The Olympian falls in love
with Lamia, queen of Libya, which was, for the Greeks, the whole continent of Africa. When Hera
finds out about their love, she destroys each of Lamia s children at birth. In her misery, Lamia
withdraws to the rocks and caves of the sea coast, where she preys on other women s children,
eating them and sucking their blood. To recompense his mistress, Zeus gives her the power of
shape shifting. Perhaps as a reflection of this versatility, the monstrous race of lamiae of Africa are
composite beings, with the heads and breasts of women, but the bodies of serpents. In this earliest

When Telemakhos meets Helen in Sparta, she still can charm her listenersand even jest about her
infidelity of twenty years earlier when the Greeks besieged Troy, daring all for the wanton that I

and Greeks.
Immortal temptresses hold out that same promise of heightened sexual experience, but they add
to that the lure of an escape from the ordinary world into a dream land of perpetual youth and
eternal life. They can raise man above his mortal station. In this category we can place the
Homeric goddess Kalypso. She has tried to secure Odysseus for herself by giving him eternal
youth and immortality. As she complains to Hermes, who has come with the gods command to
send Odysseus home, all her effort has gone unrewarded:
I fed him, loved him, sang that he should not die
nor grow old, ever, in all the days to come. (Odyssey V, 142 43)
No one is grateful to such a benefactress, least of all the hero himself, though we have to remember
that he has spent seven unaging years in her earthly paradise. Her inability to win his heart
intensifies her anger at the other gods. Whatever the gods have done for their mortal beloveds, they
have not loved as she has, devotedly, constantly.
Odysseus refuses Kalypso s immortality because he glories in the very restrictions imposed by
mortality. His love for his

New Orleans By Jean Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieur De Bienville...
New Orleans was founded in 1718 by Jean Baptiste Le Moyne, Sieur de Bienville. Forty five
years later, in 1763, France signed treaties ceding Louisiana to Spain to whom it remained for
the next forty years. Due to Mexican, Cuban and Spanish influence, the race rules in New
Orleans were more liberal, allowing for a class of free people of color. In 1803 Louisiana was
sold back to the French, who then twenty days later sold it to the United States in the Louisiana
Purchase. New Orleans had become the largest city in the Confederacy by the start of the Civil
War in 1861.
New Orleans culture is a melting pot of Spanish, French, Mexican, Native American, and African
descent. Creole is a term that refers to mixed race natives of Louisiana. Many creoles were free
and their ancestors often had the same rights as white people. They often received formal
education and owned property and slaves. Creole culture was catholic and French speaking as
opposed to the Protestant and English speaking whole of America. This amalgamation of cultures
created a safe haven for personal expression, and caused the development and evolution of the
culture and Jazz music.
In 1724, Code Nior was implemented which gave slaves Sundays and holidays off. On their days
off, slaves gathered any place they could find such as levees, backyards, and remote areas. In
1817, the mayor of New Orleans issued an ordinance which restricted slaves congregation to an area
called Congo Square. On Sunday afternoons, men

Ancient Greece Influence On Modern Society
Some of the greatest aspects of modern society came from Ancient Greece. The people of Ancient
Greece were very creative, and they designed their own buildings and theatres. They were smart
because they established the foundations for mathematics and philosophy. Ancient Greece
influenced sports and the Olympic games the modern world has today in many ways. Ancient
Greeceinfluences in the areas of philosophy, mathematics, art, architecture, sports, and government
had a profound impact on modern day culture and society.
The people of Ancient Greece laid the foundations for mathematics and philosophy. Greek
philosophers, full of knowledge and wisdom, believed that ordinary humans could understand the
workings of nature. Ancient Greece became known for many great philosophers. Thales, who lived
in a time when Greek mythology was popular, became known as the first philosopher and the first
to consider that there might be natural explanations to the world Pythagoras, a mathematician and
philosopher, gained notoriety for developing the Pythagorean Theorem. The Pythagorean Theorem,
a well known theorem in geometry classes in the modern world today, states that the square of the
hypotenuse of a right triangle equals the sum of the squares on the other sides . Aristotle, one of the
most influential Greek philosophers known today, created the idea of the food chain. In this food

Importance Of Self Discipline
We already know that self discipline is important, but do we really need it?
We know about success tools, and we familiarize ourselves with many useful resources that lead us
to success, so why do we need self discipline?
We all have goals for many areas of our lives. Some of us want successful relationships, some like
to get more money, others want simply happiness in their lives and others seek better health with
less weight. These are common goals, and we sometimes fail or succeed in achieving them. The
general question is: Why we don t achieve those goals? Why we don t become successful in these
goals?
The general answer is: Lack of self discipline.
Success needs time. It does not happen at once. What you do today will determine the results in
your future. If you change your present, you change your future. If you eat a lot of pizzas and
delicious food today, you will gain weight, and this will show in your future weight. If you spend
more money than what you earn today, you will have less money in the future.
Present steps determine future results.
Self discipline takes place in your present which will lead to your future.
You can learn many tips and tools for your goals, but unless you take action for these goals, you
will never become successful in reaching them. Almost all goals need efforts and continuity. Self
discipline will enable you to get required efforts and continuity. If you need to lose weight, you
need self discipline among other skills to eat less. If

People in Canada and U.S have the same language, movies, t.v shows and music which gives them

The Importance Of Parents Discipline The Children
How does one suitably discipline their children? Should parents discipline their children at a young
age? When is it considered too much or too stridulous? Is it legal? A numerous amount of parents
have stumbled upon these questions, but can t seem to find a concrete answer or are having a
difficult time trying to disciplinetheir children. Countless parents don t even bother disciplining and
some try, but don t succeed. As a parent, one can verbally discipline them, or physically discipline
them. Both are legal, but disciplining them too harshly or too softy can affect the outcome of how
disciplined the childbecomes. As seen in studies done in the past, disciplining your children at a
young age can drastically benefit them as they progress in life, aid them succeed in school, and
help them make wise choices. A majority of parents attempt to discipline their children, but it
doesn t seem to work appropriately. As the majority of parents have wondered, how should a
parent properly discipline their children? When is it considered too much or too harsh? A parent
can verbally discipline their children, or physically discipline them. Both may work depending
on how the child is. But, disciplining a child too softly or too harshly can do the exact opposite
by making them feel as if they are not controlled by their parents or make them terrified of their
parents (Ballard 16). For example, if a parent doesn t discipline a child enough, the child will feel
like he is greater than

In Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen, the character Juli has a growth mindset. Juli has gone
through a lot, one of those challenges she had to go through was a sycamore tree that she

Juli says, Then I realized how much the wonderful breeze smelt. Additionally, Juli says, It wasn t

challenge and got rewarded of a great view. Bryce s kite got stuck in the sycamore

When you think of living healthy the first thing you probably think of is eating healthy and
exercise. That is very true and is extremely important in healthy living, but there is also one factor
you probably didn t think about. That is mental health. Mental health is keeping your mind in shape.
I want to talk about some disorders that coincide with mental instability and how to stay mentally
fit.
The first example of mental instability is eating disorders. The main two eating disorders and
anorexia and bulimia. Anorexia is when the person literally starves themselves to death or causing
them to lose a life threatening amount of weight. Anorexia usually occurs in females and causes

Without treatment depression only gets worse and more frequent. Symptoms of depression involves
some combination of the following symptoms: depressed mood (sadness), poor concentration,
insomnia, fatigue, appetite disturbances, excessive guilt and thoughts of suicide. As many as 8 out
of 10,000 teens committed suicide in 2000. Think about that. All of those teens ending their life
on earth because they felt incompetent. Like their lives didn t have a purpose. Like people, even
their closest family members wouldn t even care if they died.Thankfully you can help. Simple
things like compliments on how their skirt is one of a kind or how cool their new shoes are.
On a lighter note I want to talk about ways that you can keep your mind healthy. You can devise
a way to use new words that you learned. (ohh! Vocab word!)You can start playing puzzles like
sudoku and jumbles in the paper. They may sound boring and like a waste of time but they are
actually extremely fun and slightly addicting. Even though most people would say that
videogames are a waste of time they are actually proven to fight alzheimer s. You can also read. I
know, sounds boring too. I have a friend who would say Reading is dumb. Go make your own
story. This is true we should make our own story but reading will inspire us to do so.
So in conclusion. Say something nice, feel good about yourself, and stimulate your mind, body, and
soul and always

Comparing Frances Zefferilli’s Hamlet and Shakespeare’s...
Comparing Frances Zefferilli s Hamlet and Shakespeare s Hamlet
I believe Frances Zefferilli s version of Shakespeare s Hamlet, made in 1990, is one of the best
versions of the play to be put onto screen. The film, starring Mel Gibson as Hamlet, and Glen
Close as Queen Gertrude, takes a different look to the play. Zefferilli explores the physiological
stability of Hamlet very well, especially in Act 3, Scene 4. My interpretation of that scene in the
text was different to the one given in the movie.
After reading the scene, I had the notion that Hamlet was already quite confused he had just come
out of a scene where he could have killed the king, but his blunted purpose gets in the way. The
killing of Polonius in the text gave me ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He just continues on. He isn t put off because he had such high hopes that it would be the king, so
instead of being sad about the murder of his trusted councillor, he is merely disappointed that it had
to be Polonius calling for help instead of the king.
This part of the scene is presented a bit differently in the movie. When Hamlet enters, you can
really tell that he has gone mad. He is sad one minute, the next minute he ll give out an almighty
roar. Zefferilli has used the scenes surrounding this one to make it seem important. In some of the
versions they didn t have the near death of Claudious the scene before. I think having this scene
beforehand sets you up for Hamlet s confrontation with his mother.
You can really tell that both Hamlet and Gertrude are affected by Hamlet s insanity. Both of them
appear to cry for most of the scene. The whole scene is a sharing of emotions. The kiss is a
connection between them both, rather than a lust they both have for any sexual contact. They
needed to connect physically in some way, after all they are mother and son.
When the ghost of Hamlet s father enters, Hamlet is eager to find out what he has to say. The
ghost suggests that Hamlet talks to his mother but Gertrude still believes that he has lost his sanity,
Alas, how is t with you? . In the movie the ghost appears to be a real person, not a see through
character like the other movies depict. This is done to cause the allusion that Hamlet s father is still

King Lear Act 1 Scene Essay
King Lear Act 1 Scene
What impact did Act 1 Scene 1 of King Lear have on you?
The first scene of the first act of King Lear had a genuinely dramatic affect upon me.
This first glimpse into the world of Lear and his subordinates sets the premise for the whole play,
unravelling within the first few pages, themes which I believe will become increasingly evident.
The scene opens with the introduction of three characters Kent, Gloucester and Edmund. Of these
three characters the only one who seems not to have been shown in an unfavourable light yet, by
this brief introduction, is Kent. This could be intentional to set It is made clear Edmund is a bastard,
and therefore illegible for proper acknowledgement as the son of an Earl. ... Show more content on

At this point of the scene it can be clearly noticed how similar Goneril and Regan are, as Regan
asks Lear to measure her worth as he measured Goneril s. This closeness seems symbolic in a way
to the close knit coven in Macbeth, as these women seem to have underlying deceptive qualities.
Before considering Cordelia s answer to Lear, we must note her comments made during Goneril
and Regan s speeches . This is keen use of the aside speech by Shakespeare as the audience
would be able to hear Cordelia s confusion over what her response shall be and her truthful belief
that her love is more ponderous than her tongue. Her indecision over what to say to her father
shows really how much she does not want to offend him, but instead she does the opposite, as he
cannot see beyond his pride, to her loyal words.
When she says Nothing , she is indicating to him that he should no the worth of her love for him.
The king, shocked with this appearance of ingratitude in his favourite child, desired her to
consider her words, and to mend her speech, lest it should mar her fortunes. Cordelia then tells
Lear that she loves him according to her station, and as much as he loves her as his daughter. She
is as she says young...and true . Lear is obviously hurt but it seems, due to the severity of his
actions, that his pride and title have been harmed more. He disowns her and she becomes his
sometime daughter . At this point Kent intervenes on Cordelia s behalf

Age-Related Macular Degeneration Paper
The research topic I will be introducing is Age Related Macular Degeneration. This has been
classified as a degenerative disorder that distresses the macula in one s eye. AMD is unfortunately a
common illness that individuals over 65 suffer from and that is a central cause vision loss. AMD
doesn t have a set disease pathway, in some individuals it advances slowly so that loss of vision
does not arise for a long time. The disease can also advance much quicker and may lead to lack of
vision in either or both eyes. The disease begins a blurry area near the center of one s vision which
grows larger and larger possibly causing a blank space in the eye(Boyd, 2013). Research is being
done on AMD because it is a prevalent illness and has extreme consequences.... Show more content

limitations and existing bias can allow you to gather more valid information and be aware of
unreliable sources. Although there was possibilities of certain bias, I believe that this article was
of high enough quality to base some decision off of. In the areas where they did not have enough
verified information to make a conclusion, they stated more research would have to be done.
Before I did the research on Age Related Macular Degeneration, I believed it was a localized eye
disease. It would impact the way I cared for my patient because it would force me to pay more
attention to their other diseases and diagnoses in relation to AMC, as well as how they are
managing it. Future research should be done to gather more evidence and the effects of aspirin and
antioxidant intake and their correlation on the disease. As well as more on the prevention and
treatment if one does have a systemic disease that can be linked to macular

The result of long term pressures or a series of accidents? Which of these phrases more
accurately describes the Eastern European revolutions of 1989? The year of 1989 is watershed
point in the world history, during this year the basis was prepared for 75 year old Soviet Union to

Future Teach Summary And Analysis
One of the tips I plan to use for myself as a future teach is To create a safe environment, show
that you are human (Koch, 2013, p 173). This is a very important tip for me to use because as a
teacher we always want to make sure that our students feel safe and that as their teacher we want
to keep them safe. The second tip I could use is Who are the student? What types of homes,
apartments, or other forms of housing arrangements do they live in (Koch,2013, p 173). This is
another important tip to up hold as a future teacher because it is important to have a relationship
with your students, but to also learn a little bit about them everyday. The third tip I could use as a
future teacher is Offer Choices and be flexible (Connell, 2013).

Allure Of Democracy
The Allure of Democracy
A democratic system is one that states strive for, as it allows for popular participation through the
electoral process; and depending on implementation tactics, states may or may not be successful in
this pursuit. Democracy looks different across nations, as exemplified with presidential,
parliamentary and mixed systems being put in place. However, what is the allure of democracy?
Herein, differences in executive leadership and duties and differences in powers are addressed in
order to better understand what democracy is and why it is a sought after system of governance.
Democracy is based on two fundamental concepts. The first of which is political participation,
which requires all citizens eligible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are, however, often times more stable systems. Paradoxically, the executive branch, some
would argue, is not sovereign the citizen is. This is because the president, as well as legislators,
have a responsibility to uphold the wants of the people. This is often debated, though. A major
player falling under this system is the United States. In the U.S. presidential system, voting for both
the legislative branch and the presidential seat are voted on simultaneously (rather than a
legislative branch being voted in, who then vote in the president as seen in parliament elections),
and only two political parties stand out amongst the rest. There is no split government, and no
such thing as a vote of confidence, meaning it is much harder to remove a presidential figure (they
must be impeached). Political parties don t get to choose the president (they choose a candidate to
run), and though the president seeks to establish a cooperative relationship across parties it isn t
essential to his/her stay in office (Dahl, n.d.) (Moe Caldwell, 1994).

Social Penetration Theory Believes Relationships Can Progress
Social penetration theory believes relationships can progress from platonic to intimate through
increasing self disclosure (West Turner, 2010, pp. 168 169). During the initial stages of a
relationship, self disclosure needs to be reciprocated, in order for trust to form (Wright, 2017).
Any relationship can evolve by using social penetration theory; it is not specific to any one type of
relationship. However, talking about sensitive topics is not easy, and can lead to a person feeling
vulnerable. Consequently, it is imperative, during the initial stages of a relationship, that self
disclosure is reciprocated, in order to form trust (West Turner, 2010, pp. 168 169 Wright, 2017).

I did this because; the theories are exemplified in both interactions. For my familiar relationship, I
chose my roommate, who has also been my friend for four years. After I logged and reflected on
our conversations, I noticed I was reviewing the conversations as either a negative or a positive,
thus realizing the social exchange theory applied best to my familiar subject. However, social
penetration is exemplified when we talked about sensitive topics. Social penetration is supported
more by my unfamiliar subject, or my coworker, but social exchange is also exemplified when we
shared similar characteristics.
Social exchange theory rates interactions as either a positive or negative. Many of my
interactions between my roommate was more negative than positive. For example on, 3/21/17,
she asked for suggestions on her homework assignment because she wanted to know how to
improve it. Also, on, 3/22/17, we were debating on who should drive, despite the fact it was her
idea to go out, because she did not want to, I had to. These conversations seem trivial on the
surface, but there small examples of what I give to the friendship, with nothing in return, making
them a cost to the friendship. Another example of a cost was on, 3/25/17, we had a discussion
about profanity, because she uses profanity excessively and I rarely do. She said she wanted to
stop using as much profanity, but yet she has never made the effort to do so. Thus, each time she

Diplomacy When Jefferson sent Lewis, he told him that they should tell the natives to make
friends with the American because they were going to pass to the Pacific Ocean, it will now be
proper you should inform those through whose country you will pass . . . that henceforth we
become their fathers and friends . This is a clear indicator that the Americans perceived the
Indians to be a hostile community. Previously, when the Euro Americans met with the Indians,
they used to use ancient diplomatic protocols such as ceremonial gifts, displays of military
powers and formal languages. However, due to the difference in understanding by the two, it
used to result in conflict. Therefore, when Clark and Lewis understood the concept and symbols
from the Indians, it was easy for them to agree on thus diplomacy was established. William
Clark recorded a speech in which the chiefs called them father while they called the Indians
children. This was a great result of diplomacy since to the Indians it expressed kinship.

able to know the face of the country as Jefferson puts it. During their journey, Lewis and Gallatin

order to record their astronomical and geographic observations. To most

because she went to war with little to no worries. She also showed great perseverance when she

The Debate Over Vaccinations for Adults and Children Essay
A very controversial issue these days is whether or not to receive immunizations. I am a young
mother and I tend to follow my mothers and doctors advice when it comes to mine and my
children s health, I feel as though my doctor has the best advice on how I can keep us all happy

immunizations and there are quite a few people who are either hesitant to or will not have
themselves and their children immunized.
I am a person who believes that children and adults should be immunized, by not receiving

This enables our bodies to develop the antibodies to fight off the disease without having to get sick
first.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, most childhood vaccines are 90 99% effective
in preventing disease. Under some circumstances the children that have been vaccinated do get the
disease; they usually have milder symptoms with less serious complications than a child who has
not had the same vaccination. This proves that there are more risks with not being vaccinated than
being vaccinated.
Back in 2005 there was an outbreak of rotavirus gastroenteritis in Nicaragua, this caused high
mortality and hospitalization. There was a case study done to see if the children who had passed
away had access to routine immunizations, in which the children should have been given the
rotavirus vaccination. The results of this study showed that with a rotavirus vaccine the seasonal
outbreaks could be diminished.
Rotavirus gastroenteritis is not the only disease that has been an issue. Polio paralyzed about
37,000 and killed about 1,700 every year in the 1950 s in the United States. About 15,000 people
died each year from diphtheria before there was a vaccine, and up to 70,000 children a year were
hospitalized for rotavirus.
There are also financial reasons that children should receive their vaccinations. According to a

of a service in a church and the burial of the deceased to a service that more so relates to a party
than a funeral. The Death of the Funeral Business also raises many questions to be pondered by the
reader. Hingston says, A societal changeover from burialto cremationis momentous for our culture.
It signals a cataclysmic shift in how we think about our bodies and ourselves (38). The questions
that arise from this quote are what parallels may Hingston be trying to draw between the trend in
cremation and the way we think about our bodies and ourselves? Why may she be trying to
develop these connections? These are the questions I will be focusing on and how they relate to
what I think the purpose of the article is. I believe the purpose of this article is to show how our
generation is changing the way we view deathand how the use of technology has greatly impacted
the way funerals are done. The question what parallels may Hingston be trying to draw between
the trend in cremation and the way we think about our bodies and ourselves is a pretty loaded
one. The quote, the rise of cremation dovetails neatly with the increase in those of us who have no

  • 2. Malnutrition, Its Impacts And Consequences Essay Discuss and define malnutrition, its impacts and consequences in both adult and paediatric patients, reflecting on your experiences from classroom discussions, A placement and the key evidence base. Include discussions of screening and use of the nutrition support algorithm and describe and discuss the tools used in settings to enable effective nutritionsupport. Malnutrition is the imbalance of body nutrients, energy and protein, which cause negative impacts on the body and its functions. Imbalances can mean levels exceed bodily requirements (overnutrition), leading to conditions like obesity and vitamin overdose effects. Malnutrition also refers to insufficient intake (undernutrition), which can cause conditions such as anaemia. From a clinical perspective, malnutrition is a body mass index (BMI) of less than 18.5kg/m2, unintentional weight loss greater than 10% within the last 3 6 months, a BMI of less than 20kg/m2 and unintentional weight loss greater than 5% within the last 3 6 months (Malnutrition Task Force, 2013, p.7). One suggested cause of malnutrition is financial limitations, as not all families can afford nutritionally rich, balanced diets. The National Children s Home (NCH) Poverty and Nutrition Survey 1991 found that two thirds of children and more than ВЅ of the parents (of families attending NCH Family Centres) were eating nutritionally inadequate diets (Leather, 1996, p.20). • 3. The Effects Of Cigarette Smoking On The Body And Others Introduction Cigarette smoking is one of the most common known causes of diseases. It has a negative effect on the body and others who are around the person smoking, but being able to quit can positively change a person s health. Nicotine is one of the biggest component in a cigarette, it stimulates the central nervous system which then gives the smoker a pleasurable feeling. The cigarette s stimulants make smokingvery addictive, which causes smoking cessation challenging for a person. There are now various amounts of ways to help them gradually stop, and the number of different alternatives that are readily available can greatly affect the person s habits. One common way to help smoking cessation is the use of an electronic cigarette.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The study by Bullen et al. (2013) and Hann, Mnatzaganian, Rahman, Wilson, and Worall Carter (2015) states that e cigarettes without nicotine is not as effective for cessation. This is due to the fact that it does not have the same effect as a regular cigarette, which contains nicotine. In the study conducted by Bullen et al. (2013), out of the 73 people who were given placebo e cigarettes, only 3 were able to continue their cessation after six months (p.1633). The results of these studies can be due to the fact that the e cigarette does not contain nicotine and the smoker is not getting the pleasurable feeling a nicotine gives. The results of the use of e cigarettes with nicotine resulted with a higher outcome, which will be explained in Alternatives with Nicotine. A device that contradicts the previous study because evidence shows that it can actually help is a nicotine free inhalator. This only allows the person to replace the physical gestures that they associate with smoking a regular cigarette, such as hand to mouth action. By using this technique, Arcidiacono et al. (2011) implemented this in a smoking cessation program for a six month study, they recruited smokers that exhaled a certain amount of carbon monoxide. Within the six months, they compared the results of week four to week twenty four. Week four consisted of 23 out of the 60 to successfully quit and by week ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Choose a container that is at least 10 inches in diameter and at least 1 foot deep. This will provide sufficient room for root development. In addition to the container, you also need the appropriate soil mixture and draining mechanisms. For the best drainage, fill the bottom of your container with 2 or 3 inches of gravel. On top of the gravel, fill Вѕ of the container with soil. Choose a well balanced organic soil. The three main ingredients you will find described on soil bags are N P K that is, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Without going into too much detail about the role of each element in plant growth, I will tell you that an average vegetable will grow fine in a 10 5 5 mixture. This ratio, too, will be easy to find at your local nursery. Once you have the gravel in the bottom of the container and the soil on top, you are ready to transplant the tomato. Pick up the tomato in the plastic container it comes in from the nursery. The Christian art survived 2nd century s and onwards. According to research Roman style was adapted to the new faith, but it may have proven incompatible with Christian subject matter: Classical art expressed the physical and the here and now; Christian art concerned itself with the spiritual and the hereafter (Pearson, 2010). Christian art gradually moved away from the naturalism, illusionism, solid objects and flesh and blood figures of Classical art, for Christian artists did not care to extend our empirical world, but rather hoped to create otherworldly realms. In conclusion the Christian art had many influence in such as pagan inspired themes. • 12. Why I Should Be A Nurse I knew from a young age that I wanted to be a nurse. As I applied to many schools in the early season of my senior year, I questioned what I would take into consideration as I chose a college. Choosing a school based on my major is something I thought was normal. For this reason, I really took the time to consider and weigh my options. Hence, one option that was very apparent, is the location of the nursing school. Some colleges have a separate medical campus located in major cities with access to large hospitals, while some have the hospitals and offices right down the street on campus. I weighed the option of what would best fit my experience for a lot longer than I was expecting. At times, I considered maybe it would be beneficial to stay on campus since college only happens once and people say it is the best years of your life. I was simultaneously thinking, maybe it is better to stay focused on my career by moving away. As this decision came closer, I decided I would visit a few schools with either an on campus medical center, such as the Universityof Missouri and the University of Utah, or an off campus medical center, like that of Baylor or the University of Oklahoma. Baylor s nursing school is the one that definitely ensured my choice of where I wanted to attend college from the welcoming community it appears to have. The Rational Decision Making Model Essay EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The purpose of this report is to provide feedback on administrative and public policy violation issues in the city of Crestview located in Okaloosa County, Florida. The report analyzes public policy violations, City Council member adjudication, transparency, and leadership issues in the City of Crestview. The report uses various research methods to gather data to help formulate the conclusion and recommendations of the report. The rational decision making model is utilized to make the best decision possible. The rational decision making model is the best known prescriptive model; the model involves several sequential steps: identifying the problem, determining the goals and objectives, identifying and evaluating alternative policies, choosing from the alternatives, recommending actions, implementation, and evaluation (Smith, 2014). The use of this model is justified as it provides structure and sequence to the choices of the decision maker. The model helps ensure key indicators can be fully considered in a logical manner. It is recommended that the administration create new procedures and implement trainings or classes to educate City Council members, employees and other city officials on new public policies as well as the Sunshine Law. These trainings will outline laws, policies and ordinances as well as target times for legislators to move any issue from the systemic agenda to the formal agenda; this policy should allow for research on Crestview s ... The Olympian falls in love with Lamia, queen of Libya, which was, for the Greeks, the whole continent of Africa. When Hera finds out about their love, she destroys each of Lamia s children at birth. In her misery, Lamia withdraws to the rocks and caves of the sea coast, where she preys on other women s children, eating them and sucking their blood. To recompense his mistress, Zeus gives her the power of shape shifting. Immortal temptresses hold out that same promise of heightened sexual experience, but they add to that the lure of an escape from the ordinary world into a dream land of perpetual youth and eternal life. Forty five years later, in 1763, France signed treaties ceding Louisiana to Spain to whom it remained for the next forty years. Due to Mexican, Cuban and Spanish influence, the race rules in New Orleans were more liberal, allowing for a class of free people of color. In 1803 Louisiana was sold back to the French, who then twenty days later sold it to the United States in the Louisiana Purchase. New Orleans had become the largest city in the Confederacy by the start of the Civil War in 1861. New Orleans culture is a melting pot of Spanish, French, Mexican, Native American, and African descent. Creole is a term that refers to mixed race natives of Louisiana. Many creoles were free and their ancestors often had the same rights as white people. They often received formal education and owned property and slaves. Creole culture was catholic and French speaking as opposed to the Protestant and English speaking whole of America. This amalgamation of cultures created a safe haven for personal expression, and caused the development and evolution of the culture and Jazz music. In 1724, Code Nior was implemented which gave slaves Sundays and holidays off. On their days off, slaves gathered any place they could find such as levees, backyards, and remote areas. We know about success tools, and we familiarize ourselves with many useful resources that lead us to success, so why do we need self discipline? We all have goals for many areas of our lives. Some of us want successful relationships, some like to get more money, others want simply happiness in their lives and others seek better health with less weight. These are common goals, and we sometimes fail or succeed in achieving them. The general question is: Why we don t achieve those goals? Why we don t become successful in these goals? The general answer is: Lack of self discipline. Success needs time. It does not happen at once. What you do today will determine the results in your future. If you change your present, you change your future. If you eat a lot of pizzas and delicious food today, you will gain weight, and this will show in your future weight. If you spend more money than what you earn today, you will have less money in the future. Present steps determine future results. Self discipline takes place in your present which will lead to your future. You can learn many tips and tools for your goals, but unless you take action for these goals, you will never become successful in reaching them. Almost all goals need efforts and continuity. Comparing Frances Zefferilli s Hamlet and Shakespeare s Hamlet I believe Frances Zefferilli s version of Shakespeare s Hamlet, made in 1990, is one of the best versions of the play to be put onto screen. The film, starring Mel Gibson as Hamlet, and Glen Close as Queen Gertrude, takes a different look to the play. Zefferilli explores the physiological stability of Hamlet very well, especially in Act 3, Scene 4. My interpretation of that scene in the text was different to the one given in the movie. This part of the scene is presented a bit differently in the movie. When Hamlet enters, you can really tell that he has gone mad. He is sad one minute, the next minute he ll give out an almighty roar. Zefferilli has used the scenes surrounding this one to make it seem important. In some of the versions they didn t have the near death of Claudious the scene before. I think having this scene beforehand sets you up for Hamlet s confrontation with his mother. You can really tell that both Hamlet and Gertrude are affected by Hamlet s insanity. Both of them appear to cry for most of the scene. The whole scene is a sharing of emotions. The kiss is a connection between them both, rather than a lust they both have for any sexual contact. They needed to connect physically in some way, after all they are mother and son. Before considering Cordelia s answer to Lear, we must note her comments made during Goneril and Regan s speeches . This is keen use of the aside speech by Shakespeare as the audience would be able to hear Cordelia s confusion over what her response shall be and her truthful belief that her love is more ponderous than her tongue. Her indecision over what to say to her father shows really how much she does not want to offend him, but instead she does the opposite, as he cannot see beyond his pride, to her loyal words. When she says Nothing , she is indicating to him that he should no the worth of her love for him. The king, shocked with this appearance of ingratitude in his favourite child, desired her to consider her words, and to mend her speech, lest it should mar her fortunes. Cordelia then tells Lear that she loves him according to her station, and as much as he loves her as his daughter. She is as she says young...and true . Lear is obviously hurt but it seems, due to the severity of his actions, that his pride and title have been harmed more. He disowns her and she becomes his sometime daughter . At this point Kent intervenes on Cordelia s behalf ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Age-Related Macular Degeneration Paper The research topic I will be introducing is Age Related Macular Degeneration. This has been classified as a degenerative disorder that distresses the macula in one s eye. AMD is unfortunately a common illness that individuals over 65 suffer from and that is a central cause vision loss. AMD doesn t have a set disease pathway, in some individuals it advances slowly so that loss of vision does not arise for a long time. The disease can also advance much quicker and may lead to lack of vision in either or both eyes. The disease begins a blurry area near the center of one s vision which grows larger and larger possibly causing a blank space in the eye(Boyd, 2013). Research is being done on AMD because it is a prevalent illness and has extreme consequences.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although there was possibilities of certain bias, I believe that this article was of high enough quality to base some decision off of. In the areas where they did not have enough verified information to make a conclusion, they stated more research would have to be done. Before I did the research on Age Related Macular Degeneration, I believed it was a localized eye disease. It would impact the way I cared for my patient because it would force me to pay more attention to their other diseases and diagnoses in relation to AMC, as well as how they are managing it. Future research should be done to gather more evidence and the effects of aspirin and antioxidant intake and their correlation on the disease. The year symbolizes the victory of the USA and its allies over Soviet Union, the collapse of bipolar world where two major powers were leading the world after the World War Two and the beginning of the long lasting hegemony of the USA on other countries. This is a very important tip for me to use because as a teacher we always want to make sure that our students feel safe and that as their teacher we want to keep them safe. The second tip I could use is Who are the student? What types of homes, apartments, or other forms of housing arrangements do they live in (Koch,2013, p 173). • 31. Allure Of Democracy The Allure of Democracy A democratic system is one that states strive for, as it allows for popular participation through the electoral process; and depending on implementation tactics, states may or may not be successful in this pursuit. Democracy looks different across nations, as exemplified with presidential, parliamentary and mixed systems being put in place. However, what is the allure of democracy? Herein, differences in executive leadership and duties and differences in powers are addressed in order to better understand what democracy is and why it is a sought after system of governance. They are, however, often times more stable systems. Paradoxically, the executive branch, some would argue, is not sovereign the citizen is. This is because the president, as well as legislators, have a responsibility to uphold the wants of the people. This is often debated, though. A major player falling under this system is the United States. In the U.S. presidential system, voting for both the legislative branch and the presidential seat are voted on simultaneously (rather than a legislative branch being voted in, who then vote in the president as seen in parliament elections), and only two political parties stand out amongst the rest. There is no split government, and no such thing as a vote of confidence, meaning it is much harder to remove a presidential figure (they must be impeached). Political parties don t get to choose the president (they choose a candidate to run), and though the president seeks to establish a cooperative relationship across parties it isn t essential to his/her stay in office (Dahl, n.d.) • 32. Social Penetration Theory Believes Relationships Can Progress Social penetration theory believes relationships can progress from platonic to intimate through increasing self disclosure (West Turner, 2010, pp. 168 169). During the initial stages of a relationship, self disclosure needs to be reciprocated, in order for trust to form (Wright, 2017). Any relationship can evolve by using social penetration theory; it is not specific to any one type of relationship. However, talking about sensitive topics is not easy, and can lead to a person feeling vulnerable. Consequently, it is imperative, during the initial stages of a relationship, that self disclosure is reciprocated, in order to form trust (West Turner, 2010, pp. 168 169 Wright, 2017). After I logged and reflected on our conversations, I noticed I was reviewing the conversations as either a negative or a positive, thus realizing the social exchange theory applied best to my familiar subject. However, social penetration is exemplified when we talked about sensitive topics. Social penetration is supported more by my unfamiliar subject, or my coworker, but social exchange is also exemplified when we shared similar characteristics. Social exchange theory rates interactions as either a positive or negative. Many of my interactions between my roommate was more negative than positive. For example on, 3/21/17, she asked for suggestions on her homework assignment because she wanted to know how to improve it. Also, on, 3/22/17, we were debating on who should drive, despite the fact it was her idea to go out, because she did not want to, I had to. These conversations seem trivial on the surface, but there small examples of what I give to the friendship, with nothing in return, making them a cost to the friendship. Another example of a cost was on, 3/25/17, we had a discussion about profanity, because she uses profanity excessively and I rarely do. This is a clear indicator that the Americans perceived the Indians to be a hostile community. Previously, when the Euro Americans met with the Indians, they used to use ancient diplomatic protocols such as ceremonial gifts, displays of military powers and formal languages. However, due to the difference in understanding by the two, it used to result in conflict. Therefore, when Clark and Lewis understood the concept and symbols from the Indians, it was easy for them to agree on thus diplomacy was established. William Clark recorded a speech in which the chiefs called them father while they called the Indians children. This was a great result of diplomacy since to the Indians it expressed kinship. In my opinion, a hero is someone who is noble, confident, and qsomeone who shows great perseverance. In the golden compass, Lyra was noble when she chose to fight with the master, and lord asriel, who were clearly good. She also was confident because she went to war with little to no worries. She also showed great perseverance when she never showed that she was afraid, even in the life threatening situation on the balloon ride. Lyra is a herobecause she is noble. I am a young mother and I tend to follow my mothers and doctors advice when it comes to mine and my children s health, I feel as though my doctor has the best advice on how I can keep us all happy and healthy, however this is not the case for everyone. Many questions have arisen about immunizations and there are quite a few people who are either hesitant to or will not have themselves and their children immunized. I am a person who believes that children and adults should be immunized, by not receiving vaccinations it is possible to be putting the public at risk for more diseases. This enables our bodies to develop the antibodies to fight off the disease without having to get sick first. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, most childhood vaccines are 90 99% effective in preventing disease. Under some circumstances the children that have been vaccinated do get the disease; they usually have milder symptoms with less serious complications than a child who has not had the same vaccination. This proves that there are more risks with not being vaccinated than being vaccinated. Back in 2005 there was an outbreak of rotavirus gastroenteritis in Nicaragua, this caused high mortality and hospitalization. There was a case study done to see if the children who had passed away had access to routine immunizations, in which the children should have been given the rotavirus vaccination. The results of this study showed that with a rotavirus vaccine the seasonal outbreaks could be diminished. Rotavirus gastroenteritis is not the only disease that has been an issue. Polio paralyzed about 37,000 and killed about 1,700 every year in the 1950 s in the United States. About 15,000 people died each year from diphtheria before there was a vaccine, and up to 70,000 children a year were hospitalized for rotavirus. There are also financial reasons that children should receive their vaccinations. According to a statistic from the Centers for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Death Of The Funeral Business Sandy Hingston offers many intriguing views of a funeral service from the conventional method of a service in a church and the burial of the deceased to a service that more so relates to a party than a funeral. The Death of the Funeral Business also raises many questions to be pondered by the reader. Hingston says, A societal changeover from burialto cremationis momentous for our culture. It signals a cataclysmic shift in how we think about our bodies and ourselves (38). The questions that arise from this quote are what parallels may Hingston be trying to draw between the trend in cremation and the way we think about our bodies and ourselves? Why may she be trying to develop these connections? These are the questions I will be focusing on and how they relate to what I think the purpose of the article is. I believe the purpose of this article is to show how our generation is changing the way we view deathand how the use of technology has greatly impacted the way funerals are done. The question what parallels may Hingston be trying to draw between the trend in cremation and the way we think about our bodies and ourselves is a pretty loaded one. The quote, the rise of cremation dovetails neatly with the increase in those of us who have no religious affiliation (38) answers this question nicely.
