American Exceptionalism And Manifest Destiny
The United States had the belief that American settlers were meant to stretch from coast to
coast. In the 1840s, Manifest Destiny enhanced the western settlement and provided a motivation
for continued territorial expansion. It formed war with Mexico and Native Americans were removed
from their territory.
Manifest Destiny is belief the United States was destined by God to expand throughout
the continent. Manifest Destiny was caused by the fact that the American people were
historically connected to English civilization. This made them feel superior in America because
they had power and control over the other people that lived there. The Americans were white and
educated so they felt they were better than the Indians. They ... Show more content on

Manifest destiny is the thoughts of Americans
wanting to grow. For America to get bigger, they have to control as much as possible to concur
all they can. American exceptionalism is the thinking that the America is superior. We are too
good to follow rules, which gives us a unique character of the world.
Manifest Destiny continues to have significance for the United States and the rest of the
world. We continue to try to see the world in our image. Everyone has their own perspective on
the world. One aspect of Manifest Destiny was the idea that we had the best culture and
government in the world. This thought made us want to spread out and take more territory. It is
as we want most of the world under our culture and government. Today, we don t have the right
to more land, but we still have the best culture and government. We influence all other countries
to be more like us. This is one of the reasons many immigrants come from different countries to
be under the best. This can be seen as evidence that the idea of Manifest Destiny remains with
us today. Many countries will not have as much land as we do, but they can try to get as good as
a government as we

Essay On Gas Sensor Technology
Gas sensor technology is very appreciating in industries and defense since it possesses high
sensitivity in gas detection. The most important challenges in transportable devices are
sensitivity, selectivity, durability and low power consumption. To solve the selectivity problems,
GBISs have been introduced. These latter are able to identify unknown gas ionization
breakdown voltage. To reduce the breakdown voltage CNT GBISs are employed [6] [12] while
others studies used MWCNT with a reduction of 100 450V.Nevertheless, these CNT GBISs are
exposed to corona discharges which lead to heat generation and may affect the gas ionization
breakdown. For uniform fields, the breakdown characteristics are explained by Townsend s criteria

Thus the objective of this paper is to overcome this limitation by providing a simple and low cost
fabrication. Nonorganic species ionization feature is also required.
Freestanding nanowire arrays are good field ionization sources since they present high aspect ratio
and density. The template assisted electromechanical method is an easy and costless technique but
presents limitations as the incorporated nanowires arrays bundle or collapse during template
removal. To prevent this a PAA growth AuNWs were vertically aligned and embedded at a
miniature cylindrical cell with a flat cathode. A number of tests gases have been used to perform
the field ionization s tests with deviating low ionization threshold voltages (Vi) as results.

Fig. 1(b) shows the electron tunneling into the valence band with an increase of the effective work

distance now depends on the amount of band bending whose expression is shown by equation (4).
Even with zero fields, authors [19],[24] [27] have demonstrated that impurities and dangling bonds
may impact the band bending potential. With an applied field reduction of the band, bending is
observed with a tunneling above the Fermi level even with an absence of inversion. [25] states that
the critical distance is controlled by the changing the Fermi level. Note that the small critical is

Netflix And Vs. Hulu
The idea of this show would work best with Netflix and or Hulu. Netflix would be the best fit as
their catalog has a wider range of choices and are more experimental in their stories than typical
mainstream media. Their budget is also higher which I believe would be an added benefit for a
show like this that would be shooting on location more so than on a soundstage, or at least for
the city exteriors. The form of the show would not be a typical sitcom camera set up but more
like how Netflix shoots Master of None (2015 present) or Unbreakable: Kimmy Schmidt (2015
present). I feel like the camera would be less static and more cinematic. There would be longer
tracking shots to give the audience a sense of being there with these characters. The story is
meant to be intimate and that they are there with Julianna, going through these struggles life
throws at her. A typically, sitcom set feels as though the audience is looking into the characters
lives versus being immersed into the story itself. The eight to thirteen episodes seems like a
better fit for this type of a comedy as well. Instead of trying to stretch out a season of twenty
something episodes it makes more sense to try and keep the story line conscious and building off
of each other. In recent years tv shows have stopped being episodes that can be stand alone. A
viewer cannot just tune in to any random episodeof say Stranger Things () and understand what is
happening. Instead they have to watch every episode to

The Effects Of Concussions On Nfl Players Essay
Preventing Concussions in NFL Players While the NFL is currently a very entertaining and popular
American past time, there is one issue that threatens the future of the game concussions.
Concussions affect 1.6 to 3.8 million athletes and children annually in the United States. Among
athletes, football is the most common sport involving risks of concussions for males, and soccer is
the most common sports with concussionrisks for females. The NFL has admitted that braintrauma
effects a third of all NFL players (Knowles.) Concussions have been part of the game since the
very beginning, but it s only in the past 50 years or so that medical science and the public has
become aware of the serious long term effects of concussions. The NFL is spending money on
researching the problem, because they have been sued from hundreds of players that have
suffered long term damage from concussions. The NFL needs to dedicate more money and
research into increasing helmet safety, implementing rules and policies to protect players, and
utilizing the best response treatment to prevent and protect players from concussions. Primarily,
a concussion is an injury to the brain, caused by a hit or fall. Sometimes a person will have
visible bruises, but sometimes there are no visible signs of a brain injury. A person does not have
to lose consciousness to have a concussion. Some people recover in a few hours, while others will
take weeks to recover. Symptoms include loss of

Fast Food And The Food Industry
The majority of Americans enjoy fast food like bees enjoy their honey. Fast food is hard not to
love due to families experiencing fast paced days, parents who work more than 20 hours a week,
and having children with picky appetites can be rough. For most American families, it can be a
challenge to not consider eating fast foodmore than once a week. The fast foodindustry has grown
tremendously through the years. The one restaurant that is known all over the world for their
golden arches and their big macs is McDonalds. With knowledge and personal experiences, I can
say that McDonalds is by far the worst fast food restaurantin America. I believe this due to how
unhealthy the food is for our bodies, the disturbing facts about the happy meals, the poor service,
and the non cleanliness of the restaurant.
Fast food might be easy and cheap but people do not realize how harmful the food is for their
bodies. The problem is the food that is served at these types of restaurants, especially
McDonalds, are high in fat, salt, processed, and can have harmful ingredients included in the
food. While home cooked food takes time to plan and make people know what they are eating,
that isn t the case at McDonalds: McDonald s burgers retain its fresh appearance for a very long
time. This can easily fool customers who do not have a hint of this alteration in their burgers. The
use of excessive preservatives is harmful for your health which McDonalds seems to overlook for
gaining more and more

Leadership defines the capacity of an individual to drive other individuals of an organizations
with the aim of reaching certain goals. We can say then a leader is someone who is capable of
guiding, influencing and inspiring. A leader is charismatic and so succeeds in communicating his
confidence and in obtaining a cohesive group. Without a doubt, the Army needs good leaderships
and leaders. The Army leader is interested in the evolution and transformation of the organization.
In the world of today, where the rhythm of change is often intense, the leader has to be there to

He asks for opinions and take them into account in his decision making. He takes the time

qualities are very useful especially when the mission is in an unfamiliar environment. They can
help to know the terrain better, and adapting yourself, and to understand the people. An essential
dimension of leadership in the Army is the capacity to work as a team. A leader likes working

paint originally was reserved for custom paint jobs or high end vehicles. Tri stage paint systems
are becoming common on OEM paint finishes. Once the color of everything to paint is decided

The Construction Of The Roman Empire
Motorways
Thousands of years ago, the invention of the wheel gave the people the opportunity to complete
their work easier, moving around the areas faster. The construction of the Roman Empire roads
allowed people to reach the Roman dominion around Europe. Their first effort to create a road
system was between 43AD and 400AD, when they conquered Britain in order to have better
access to main financial centres. By creating road network, they tried to expand the potential
market throughout the empire. The whole network was 3,000 kilometres in length, covered most
of England, Wales and Southern Scotland [1]. After the departure of Romans from Britain and the
fall of the Roman Empire, little effort was made for the improvement of the network system in
Europe. Only at the first decades of the 18th century, due to the Industrial Revolution, there was
an increased need for transport. At the first decades of the twentieth century, the demand for faster
movement between cities and the increasing use of the automobile (from one third of million at
the end of the First World War to over three millions at the end of the World War II) were the
main reasons for the construction of different type motorways around the world. Typical examples
are AVUS in Berlin, the oldest controlled access highway in Europe, in Italy in 1924 between
Milan and Varese. Britain created the first motorway in 1958 [2, 3].
The design of motorways is a complicated process, included specific parameters and

The Process Of Emotional Management
As with friendship, it is difficult to describe and analyze emotions without the discussion of
Aristotle. He again pioneered the way of our understanding of emotions throughout his dedication to
rhetoric as judgment, his concern for the subject provided an opportunity to develop sustained
thoughts about emotions (Leighton, p. 144). The process of emotional managementwill consider
heavily the need for emotional intelligence and a deeper understanding of a leader s emotions, and
the emotions of his or her surrounding leaders and followers. The following quote, which was
translated from Aristotle s writings, infers that all of our emotions move people, and specifically
leaders, towards a particular judgment, including the severity of the judgment or the direction of the
overall judgment of leaders.
For it does not seem the same according as men love or hate, are wrathful or mild, but things
appear altogether different, or different in degree; for when a man loves on whom he is passing
judgment, he either thinks the accused has committed no wrong at all or that his offense is
trifling; but if he hates him, the reverse is the case. And if a man desires anything, and has good
hope of getting it, if what is to come is pleasant, it seems to him that it is sure to come to pass and
will be good; but if a man is unemotional or in a bad humor, it is quite the reverse (Leighton, p.
144). Aristotle s description of emotions, and how they impact our judgments, widens the scope of

Disruption Of The Body s Circadian Clock
The circadian clock in humans has influence over many processes in the body. The most
prevalent of those arguably is its determination of our sleep and wake cycles (Joseph et al. 2008).
Sufficient sleep is an essential part of human health and a lack of sleep can have severe
repercussions on the human body and mind (Hamet and Tremblay 2006). Disruption of the body
s circadian cycle, by genetic means, can cause: ineffective homeostasis of the sleep cycle,
imbalances in the amounts of time spent awake and asleep, and the timing of sleep s onset, all of
which can contribute to dangerous sleep related disorders (Hamet and Tremblay 2006). (Joseph et
al. 2008) states that he circadian clock is composed of a 24 hour cycle called a primary... Show

our body s sleep cycle is the clock gene, and that even the smallest of changes on the molecular
level can result in significant changes in physiological out put (Hamet and Tremblay 2006).

world of higher education. And though she struggled to choose appropriate clothing and classy
wine for a dinner party at first, she now prides herself in finally being able to say, I know what
clothes to wear, what wine to buy, what plays to see, what papers and books to read. Rita s
newfound confidence displays again when she is late to a tutorial because she stops to discuss

might not otherwise have experienced, and the new understanding she gains helps prepare her and
therefore gives her more confidence, to adapt to a situation easier.

The Digestive Tract ( Gi )
The abundance of our body s ability to carry out the functions required to sustain itself, relies
heavily on our diets. And not diet in terms of a fad you might read about in a health magazine,
but rather in terms of the food we consume for the nutrient contents it contains. This is also
referred to as a food s nutrient density. In addition to the food choices we make, a vital system in
our bodies is composed of several organs that work together to chew, swallow, breakdown, absorb,
and expel what was once lunch, into usable energy for every day tasks (Yale, Kathleen). This
system is known as our digestive tract, or our gastrointestinal tract (GI). Of the many important

Basic anatomy describes two classes of tissues that make up our bodies: epithelial tissues, a thin
tissue forming the outside lining of the body s surface, and connective tissues, tissues that
support, bind, and separate other tissues or organs deep to the epithelium. Believe it or not, your
digestive tract is lined with epithelial cells, supporting the notion that we are theoretically hollow
and open to the outside world, almost like a donut. Epithelial cells, while simplistic in nature,
carry out various complex functions, but of the most important is their ability to secrete mucous
and absorb nutrients. In the stomach, these functions are vital in not only the secretion of HCl,

known as the secretory sheet, which produces a carpet of mucus that covers the interior surface
of the stomach. This alkaline mucous layer protects epithelial cells against the acid and enzymes

the breakdown of nutrients live in gastric pits of the rugae, they are parietal and chief cells. Chief
cells promote enzymatic breakdown of nutrients, while parietals cells play a major role in the
secretion of HCl.

Pregnancy Prevention Essay
Pregnancy Prevention Introduction: Pregnancy is not always a planned or wanted event in
peoples lives, and so we have man made ways to prevent pregnancy from happening. Everyone
has the freedom of choice, both male and female, so therefore there are both male and female
methods of contraception. There is an expansive range of contraception methods world wide, and
they can be as extreme as being operated on, such as having a tubal ligation or a vasectomy. The
more minor options are using condoms or taking a type of contraceptive pill. In this essay I will
also talk about the different factors which effect the way people feel about contraception, as many
people have beliefs which may not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the World Health Organization (WHO) describes EC as a contraceptive method used
by women in the first few days following unprotected intercourse to prevent unwanted pregnancy.
Some conservative political and religious organizations seek to limit women s reproductive choices
by an inaccurately characterizing EC as abortion, when in fact; the WHO considers it a safe
contraceptive. Respect for women s rights to reproduce self determination also requires
governments to ensure that women give their full, informed consent before receiving a
contraceptive method. Government policies that disregard a women s own wishes in order to meet
demographic goals put women in danger of coercive and violent practices. Subjecting women to
surgical sterilization or administering contraceptive injections or implants without her informed
consent, for example, violates women s fundamental reproductive rights. Consistent and correct use
of modern methods of contraception can prevent many unwanted pregnancies. In order to meet
their international commitments, governments must improve access for men, women, and
adolescents to high quality family planning information and services that offer a range of freely
chosen contraceptive methods. Methods of contraception: Male methods: Male methods could

Redemption Essay
The literal definition of the word redemption is the act, process, or an instance of redeeming
(forgiven). When I as a human being think of redemption I think of it as a way to accept, forgive
and move on after an instance of extreme, usually emotional, infliction. When we think of this in
terms of prison, humans are put into isolation where they are given ample time to logically think
of these trespasses and how they are paying for it with their lives. At the same time these people
are doing very manual labor while getting paid very little in order to redeem themselves to
hopefully regain some rank again in society. In life where most of us live outside walls redemption
comes in many different forms, although not all as painful.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When I myself am witness to acts of injustice my first reaction is usually anger, frustration which
is then followed by a very vocal complaint. The same reactions come about when I myself am put
under circumstances of injustice and I can only hope, but am not certain, that this is something
regularly occurs with humans in general. I would have to say that some of the factors that
contribute to the ways that I respond to injustice would be feelings that had occurred as a child
when put into unjust situations as well as knowledge that I was given while growing up in both
educational institutions as well as living in general. While I watched the movie Shawshank
Redemption I witness an idea developed mainly by Stephen King that basically gave me hope
by helping me see that due to what I call karma, the people that are exaggerating unjust behavior
will eventually get what is coming to them. This is displayed well by the showing of all the
ignorant behavior put on by the warden and what happened to him in the end. In our society
taking away a persons freedom is considered justice because at this point these people do not have
a choice. The choices that they have made so far have only gotten them into trouble, now they have
given that up and are subjected to be treated basically like a slave. Solitary confinement is
considered the most severe punishment that we can inflict in our justice system as

Market Advantages And Disadvantages Of An Emerging Market
An emerging market is a country that goes through a process of rapid growth when it comes to
industry and economy, nevertheless, it does not meet certain qualities to be considered a fully

In Depth Analysis Of Emicho And His Crusaders
The first crusade started in 1096 B.C. when Pope Urban II called for the for a holy war. This was
the beginning of the first crusade. What originally was supposed to be the taking back of
Jerusalem led to the death of thousands of Jewish people. This with previous persecution of the
Jews, by Christians, led to even more persecution of Jews. Pope Urban II called for a holy war in
1095. Urban wanted the Christians to take over the holy city of Jerusalem. He also said the
Islamic people committed crimes against Christendom. When he called for this crusade he
expected to have trained soldiers partake in the war and taking over of Jerusalem. What he didn t

Penicillin Essay
Penicillin was accidentally discovered at St. Mary s Hospital, London in 1929 by Dr. Alexander
Fleming. As test continued, Fleming began to realize that he was on the verge of a great discovery.
However, he still did not know the identity of the fungus, and had little knowledge of fungi. His
crude extractscould be diluted 1,000 times and still be effective in killing bacteria. After years of
working on penicillin and going nowhere, many of his co workers grew tired of hearing about it.
The first real test for penicillin came when a 48 year old police officernicked himself shaving. After
a time, Alexander s face became infected and he developed a temperature. When he was rushed to

Penicillin brought about the biggest search in medical history. It was reasoned that if there was one
antibiotic in nature, there must be many more, and there were.
If anything should be taken off of the Basic s List, it should be Social Darwinism. Social
Darwinism is simply survival of the fittest. This a simple view, and is not practiced much very
often. Penicillin on the other hand, has saved thousands, if not millions of lives, and started its own
medical revolution to seek for new cures to other things as well.
World War II turning points are much more important than penicillin. If there were not any breaks
for the American troops, then there would have been many more lives lost in the war than needed.
Possibly, there would be more lives lost in the fighting than saved by penicillin in its fist two
decades of public use.
Penicillin has helped save many lives throughout the years. It has cured things like strep throat,
which many people have had in their lives, syphilis, and gonorrhea. It also sparked a new wave of

Altruistic And Of Altruistic Acts
Introduction In this section, I will deliver my idea on when people tend to be altruistic and who
they are prone to act on it. I make the assumption that the reason why someone would be altruistic
would be something that varies upon the individual, and the event they are altruistic, I hold it as a
multidimensional explanation in answering why. I think this because I can see all these models
having partial truth in the reality of how it is, I am sure that one person might help another due to
empathy, and that another might do it so they get the attention of their possible sexual partner, etc.
Every model can be correct depending on the person, and the event. I include event rather than
solely person, because although a person might often choose to be altruistic in many events for a
particular reason, this same reason doesn t necessarily have to be the case for every event they are
altruistic. However, my topic deals with my belief that who, and when altruistic acts are likely to
be executed. My premises for this idea are that when and who people are altruistic with is
something that is less fluid, than a multidimensional theory on why altruismexists, enough so that it
doesn t become an absolute principle, but a psychological tendency. This is my rough theoretical
model for a psychological tendency in altruism that I believe to be constantly realizing.
Basic Theoretical Model It is in my belief that the idea of diffusion is applicable as an explanation

Restraint of Feminine Power in Kubla Kahn, Heart of...
Feminine power has long struck awe into the very heart of humanity. From modern believers in
a single female God to the early Pagan religions, which considered every woman a goddess due
to the mysterious and god like power of the sacred feminine to create life, people of various faiths
and time periods have revered the powers of womanhood. In traditional American culture, however,
women are supposedly powerless and fragile, and men supposedly have both physical and political
power. Is this true for modern society? Are our genderroles such that women are fragile and
powerless, despite the historical prevalence of faith in the mysterious and creative powers of the
female? Or are men fragile, and is modern feminine power not diminished... Show more content on

The poetic depiction of the first woman emanates a feeling of mystery, because she exists within
the poem but not the setting that is, she appears only for the effect of comparison and because of
her mysterious circumstances: why would she feel so pained as to be wailing ? Who, and what,
is her demon lover ? The speaker s illustration of the second woman also exudes mystery, for she
too exists but not in the scene, and because she originates from an unexplained vision and sings
of the non existent Mount Abora (739.I 41). This musical woman also appears to embody
creativity, both as a creator of music and as the inspiration for the speaker to build a vast dome.
Through such inspiration, the male speaker directs the creativity of this woman toward his own,
thereby deriving from her his own generative impulse; thus, the speaker attempts to, in a word,
appropriate her creativity for his own use. He deepens this appropriative effect by admitting that
his power stems from [drinking] the milk of Paradise (739.I 54), which the previously mentioned
females essentially prepare through the succession of powerful female images. The layers of the
male s exploitation of the females power bring to light the speaker s own incapacity for original
emotion and creativity, and, as a result, expose his true frailty.

The Transportation Industry
INTRODUCTION
Fraud is a pervasive and omnipresent threat in the modern business environment. While the controls
to help mitigate the risk have become increasingly sophisticated, so too have the methods in which
employees, managers and even third parties defraud victim entities. While some industries seem
more at risk than others it is important to recognize the vulnerability that is common to all of them.
One industry that seems to be able to avoid the worst of fraudulent acts is the Transportation
Industry. Through use of time tested control methods and avant garde procedures to help mitigate
business risk, the industry is able to consistently place ahead of others in rates of fraud occurrences.

The airline industry has recently been focusing inwardly on revenue growth, yield management, and
balance sheet strength. The permanent threat of terrorism creates an element of uncertainty when it
comes to an airline company s operations. There are significant challenges to implement effective
security and risk management systems. Large investments in required infrastructures are correlated
to these challenges (PriceWaterhouseCoopers, 2014). There is also a strong demand for public
transport recently as a result of environmental awareness and congestion. Railroads have difficulty
meeting this demand because of a limited infrastructure capacity. This public transport competes
with roads for investment funds and many planning processes for railroad projects take a long time

The diversity of plant and animal species in the Upper Lynn Canal remain among the highest in

Family Origin Theory In Anne Of Green Gables
Within the movie Anne of Green Gables there is a compelling demonstration of the Family
Origin theory. As Anne Shirley grows up and becomes married she is influenced by the parents
who adopted her. As she is adopted by Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert (who are siblings) when
she is eleven years old, she acquires attributes from each of them that are carried on throughout
her life. Although she was adopted as a young teenager she never truly had a family to begin
with so her adoption into this family became her Family of Origin. The boldness and directness
Anne developed came from her mother Marilla whereas her kind, giving, and hardworking
attributes came from her father Matthew. Her father Matthew created a memory in her life as he
died when she was only sixteen. This event impacted her life immensely as she tried to live like
he would. These qualities and memories carried over into her career as a teacher as well as into
her marriage with Gilbert Blythe.
The Family of Origin Theory impacts many individuals as they carry on the attributes found in the
family they originated from. According to the Figure 11.1 in the Marriages and Families textbook,
Anne s family would most likely be classified as a structurally connected family. This theory
encompasses everything from talents, attitudes, values, and their future relationships. Anne Shirley
is a good example of how her family influenced her behavior and choices as she grew older.
As a teacher Anne Shirley encountered many events where she exhibited kindness and courtesy
just as her father did. She gave respect even to the youngest of the students when they were
bullied and picked on during school as well as showing respect in disciplining the bully. She
found value in each of them just as Matthew Cuthbert had in those around him. Anne was also a
bold and direct teacher because of the discipline that came from her mother Marilla. She often
stood up for her students when they felt misunderstood or unwanted. Anne s Family of Origin
allowed her to become a better teacher because of her experiences in her family growing up.
As a young child growing up with Matthew and Marilla, Anne began life with a temper and couldn
t stop accusing others of hurting her and making

Buddhism Origin
Origins Buddhism originated in the Ganges River Valley area in the late 6th century B.C.E. The
founder, Siddhartha Gautama, was born (ca. 563 B.C.E.) in a place called Lumbini near the
Himalayan foothills, and he began teaching around Benares (at Sarnath). The Buddha was a
member of the kshatriya caste who abandoned his privileged life to seek the meaning of life. In
his early years, he lived as a prince in his royal palace, but when Siddhartha was 29 years old, he
retired to the forest and followed a spiritual life of meditation. After six years, he attained
enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree in Bodh Gaya, India.
Divinity/Afterlife
Deities: After the Buddha died, some perceived him as a God. However, that is not what Siddhartha
Gautama taught. Buddhism is sometimes called an atheistic religion, although some prefer non
theistic meaning that believing in gods really isn t the point.
Buddhism accepted the basic Hindu doctrines of reincarnation, karma, and the goal to escape the
cycle of death and rebirth.
Formula for salvation: Nirvana is the final goal of Buddhism. It is a transcendent state in which
there is neither suffering, desire, nor sense of self, and the subject is released from the effects of
karma and the cycle of death and rebirth.

not used until the attack on Pearl Harbor. By 1939 Pearl Harbor became the largest base in the

The plan to protect Hawaii was when sugar and pineapple plantation was still big and making

Personal Computer Impact
Throughout history, new technology has always had an economic impact, each technology
differing in significance of impact. In some cases this impact may not be as drastic as it appears at
first glance, and in others, it may be more so. The personal computer, first introduced in 1975, has
certainly had an impact on the economy of the developed world in which it is, including the United
States. However, there are those out three who believe that the personal computerhas not had as
great an impact on economics in the United States as it would appear at first glance. The personal
computerhas certainly affected the economy, but the questions of How much? , and Who remain.
When the personal computer first came onto the scene in the 1970s, many companies tried to
jump into the new market. Some of the names involved are still familiar household names even
still today, but some failed in this new market quickly after joining. One name that is still easily
recognizable today is Apple. In 1976, Apple designed and released the Apple I. However, it wasn t
until 1980 that personal computers became affordable enough that they could be used at home. In
that year, Commodore released a personal computer that only cost consumers $299, which was
more affordable to the average consumer than previous computer prices had been. It is estimated
that by the end of 1980, there were around one million personal computers in use in the US. In

Characteristics Of MBTI
Question 02: As Lisa Cruz wants to find patient and people oriented employees, she may want to

preferences in how people perceive the world around them and make decisions. The MBTI was
constructed by Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers. It is based on the
typological theory proposed by Carl Jung, who had speculated that there are four principal
psychological functions by which humans experience the world sensation, intuition, feeling, and
thinking and that one of these four functions is dominant for a person most of the time. The MBTI
was constructed for normal populations and emphasizes the value of naturally occurring
differences . The underlying assumption of the MBTI is that we all have specific preferences in
the way we construe our experiences, and these preferences underlie our interests, needs, values,
and motivation. Typically, the MBTI questionnaire takes about 30 minutes to complete but there is
no time limit. Feedback is provided by a qualified practitioner who is trained in the interpretation
of the MBTI and a range of comprehensive reports are available depending on your individual

Theme Of Love In City Lights
I.The one theme that connects all the films we have watched in this class is an overall theme of
love this love presents itself in many different ways. In City Lights, the love between The tramp
and the blind girl, in Central Station it is the love between two strangers, Dora and Josue, The
Namesake has the lovein an arranged marriage, Children of Heaven, the love between a brother and
sister, and The Kite Runner has love between two best friends that transcends the generations. All of
these movies have very different sets of characters, plots, settings, and cultures but the one theme
connecting them all is love. This love presents itself in many different ways, but the love is present
all the same.
City Lights by Charlie Chaplin took place right here in the United States and started off the
semester with a traditional view of love as a culture we often view falling in love with someone
as the ideal what everyone wants. We especially want someone to love us for who we are, not
the money or things that we have. In City Lights, the Tramp inadvertently tricks the blind girl
into thinking that he has a lot of money. However despite this deception, he loves her, he wants
to do what is best for her, even if it gets him in trouble or sends her away from him. He tries
working hard to get her what she needs a cure for her blindness. Working hard does not work out
for him, and he goes to great lengths to get the money for her, including the boxing match and
asking the millionaire for help. He does this because he loves her deeply and he wants what is best
for her. The movie ends with her being able to see and still accepting him despite the fact that he is
not a millionaire. This film portrays the great American love story putting the other person first, and
loving them despite their circumstances.
Central Station from Brazil by Walter Salles depicts a different kind of love. This movie could
have been about Josue, and the love with his mother or his brothers at the end when he finds them
instead it is about the love between him and Dora, an old, sad woman with no relation to him.
Throughout the film, Dora always tries to do what she thinks is best for Josue. It is misguided at
first, when she sells him to

In Erica Lorraine Williams book Sex Tourism in Bahia: Ambiguous Entanglements
Offers the first ethnographic account of sex tourism in Brazil.
But the book also assesses and explores how a range of factors produce and reproduce sex work
discourse in the state of Bahia. Williams assesses and explores the relationship between the sex
worker industry and tourism by including aspects of the erotic culture and behaviors by those in
Bahia. By doing this Williams also explains and evaluates how this erotic culture then translates
into how tourists and sex workers operate. She also includes in her book stories of people she
meets along her journey through Brazil and its ties to sex tourism. In essence Williams book not
only accesses the role of sex tourism in Brazil but her research also ties together many aspects of
Brazilian, African, and European history that have led to the stigmas in Salvador and Bahia in
which affect afro Brazilians women s social mobility and thus the perception that all afro Brazilian
women are sex workers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Williams points out that the tourism industry is currently the largest employer in the global
economy with the largest economy in Latin America, Brazil is an increasingly important global
player, experiencing unprecedented levels of economic growth and becoming the world s sixth
largest economy Many tourists travel to Brazil with the concept and intent to party, and be joined
in good company with beautiful women. Based upon this Brazil has taken this very concept and
used it to capitalize on and bring in more

The Pros And Cons Of The Stamp Act, And The Tea Act
Some of the ways in which the colonists responded to British actions between 1765 and 1770 were
the Stamp Act, the stationing of British troops in Boston, the Townshend Act, and the Tea Act 33.
The Stamp Act was put in place so the colonist would pay tax on every legal paper, license,
newspaper, and almanac. The stationing of British troops in Bostonwere because the Boston and
Philadelphia both agreed to not give goods or take good from Britain until the Stamp Act was
taken away. The Townshend Act was placed a year after the Stamp Act was taken away. The
Townshend Act was almost like the Stamp act but it did not place a tax on every little thing, it was
the more important things they placed a tax on like glass, lead, paint, and paper also... Show more

The Intolerable Act was put in place because the King was angry that they had damaged the tea (
Britain property). In his fury he placed the Intolerable Act shutting down the Boston Harbor until
they pay for the damage they made. Economic protest was that the British soldiers did not have
any place to sleep so they would just go and sleep at colonist house. The colonist started to get mad
about the situation and started to get mad and make a mob and start attacking the other soldiers.
The Continental Army was starting to lose hope and getting a lot of setbacks in the beginning why
is that? The Continental Army was losing all to almost all of the wars between them and the British
Army. Everything changed the Christmas when the Continental Army won their battle against the
British the surprise attack was really smart and help them in the war a lot. The military leadership
was George Washington he lead the army to victory. The mistakes the British made was that they

When Christopher Marlowe, the most famous playwright in his time (Lace, 79), died, William
Shakespeare was his successor. Shakespeare decided drama was to be his career after seeing the
Queen s Players during a visit to his hometown of Stratford on Avon in 1587 (Lace, 79). By the
time of Marlowe s death, Shakespeare was already well known for his three part Henry VI in
1592 (Lace, 79). His plays Love s Labour s Lost and Romeo and Juliet , both in 1594, were
performed and he became the most outstanding playwright of his time (Lace, 79). Before
Elizabeth s reign was over, Richard II , Julius Caesar , Henry V , and Hamlet had been
performed (Lace, 79). James Burbage was the second most influential actor of the Elizabethan
period, but not only for his acting talent. Burbage built the first ever public playhouse in
England, opening in 1576 (Unknown, 218). Burbage financed the building of The Theater
alone, a well off man but was still considered a rogue. Actors were not the only influence on
theater. When Mary Tudor decided the throne was rightfully hers, the War of the Roses ensued
(Lace, 73). Because of the War of the Roses, many nobles, that employed actors, were killed
(Lace, 73). This forced actors to form their own troupes (Lace, 73). In 1572, parliament passed the
Poor Laws, making it a criminal offense to be a vagabond (Lace, 75). This reduced the number of
acting companies and required them to be

  • 5. Essay On Gas Sensor Technology Gas sensor technology is very appreciating in industries and defense since it possesses high sensitivity in gas detection. The most important challenges in transportable devices are sensitivity, selectivity, durability and low power consumption. To solve the selectivity problems, GBISs have been introduced. These latter are able to identify unknown gas ionization breakdown voltage. To reduce the breakdown voltage CNT GBISs are employed [6] [12] while others studies used MWCNT with a reduction of 100 450V.Nevertheless, these CNT GBISs are exposed to corona discharges which lead to heat generation and may affect the gas ionization breakdown. For uniform fields, the breakdown characteristics are explained by Townsend s criteria (equ 1) [1].... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus the objective of this paper is to overcome this limitation by providing a simple and low cost fabrication. Nonorganic species ionization feature is also required. Freestanding nanowire arrays are good field ionization sources since they present high aspect ratio and density. The template assisted electromechanical method is an easy and costless technique but presents limitations as the incorporated nanowires arrays bundle or collapse during template removal. To prevent this a PAA growth AuNWs were vertically aligned and embedded at a miniature cylindrical cell with a flat cathode. A number of tests gases have been used to perform the field ionization s tests with deviating low ionization threshold voltages (Vi) as results. Literature review Fig. 1(b) shows the electron tunneling into the valence band with an increase of the effective work function, and the expression of the critical distance changes as shown by equation (3). The critical distance now depends on the amount of band bending whose expression is shown by equation (4). Even with zero fields, authors [19],[24] [27] have demonstrated that impurities and dangling bonds may impact the band bending potential. With an applied field reduction of the band, bending is observed with a tunneling above the Fermi level even with an absence of inversion. [25] states that the critical distance is controlled by the changing the Fermi level. Note that the small critical is yield by a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Netflix And Vs. Hulu The idea of this show would work best with Netflix and or Hulu. Netflix would be the best fit as their catalog has a wider range of choices and are more experimental in their stories than typical mainstream media. Their budget is also higher which I believe would be an added benefit for a show like this that would be shooting on location more so than on a soundstage, or at least for the city exteriors. The form of the show would not be a typical sitcom camera set up but more like how Netflix shoots Master of None (2015 present) or Unbreakable: Kimmy Schmidt (2015 present). I feel like the camera would be less static and more cinematic. There would be longer tracking shots to give the audience a sense of being there with these characters. The story is meant to be intimate and that they are there with Julianna, going through these struggles life throws at her. A typically, sitcom set feels as though the audience is looking into the characters lives versus being immersed into the story itself. The eight to thirteen episodes seems like a better fit for this type of a comedy as well. Instead of trying to stretch out a season of twenty something episodes it makes more sense to try and keep the story line conscious and building off of each other. In recent years tv shows have stopped being episodes that can be stand alone. A viewer cannot just tune in to any random episodeof say Stranger Things () and understand what is happening. The Construction Of The Roman Empire Motorways Thousands of years ago, the invention of the wheel gave the people the opportunity to complete their work easier, moving around the areas faster. The construction of the Roman Empire roads allowed people to reach the Roman dominion around Europe. Their first effort to create a road system was between 43AD and 400AD, when they conquered Britain in order to have better access to main financial centres. By creating road network, they tried to expand the potential market throughout the empire. The whole network was 3,000 kilometres in length, covered most of England, Wales and Southern Scotland [1]. After the departure of Romans from Britain and the fall of the Roman Empire, little effort was made for the improvement of the network system in Europe. Only at the first decades of the 18th century, due to the Industrial Revolution, there was an increased need for transport. At the first decades of the twentieth century, the demand for faster movement between cities and the increasing use of the automobile (from one third of million at the end of the First World War to over three millions at the end of the World War II) were the main reasons for the construction of different type motorways around the world. He again pioneered the way of our understanding of emotions throughout his dedication to rhetoric as judgment, his concern for the subject provided an opportunity to develop sustained thoughts about emotions (Leighton, p. 144). The process of emotional managementwill consider heavily the need for emotional intelligence and a deeper understanding of a leader s emotions, and the emotions of his or her surrounding leaders and followers. The following quote, which was translated from Aristotle s writings, infers that all of our emotions move people, and specifically leaders, towards a particular judgment, including the severity of the judgment or the direction of the overall judgment of leaders. For it does not seem the same according as men love or hate, are wrathful or mild, but things appear altogether different, or different in degree; for when a man loves on whom he is passing judgment, he either thinks the accused has committed no wrong at all or that his offense is trifling; but if he hates him, the reverse is the case. And if a man desires anything, and has good hope of getting it, if what is to come is pleasant, it seems to him that it is sure to come to pass and will be good; but if a man is unemotional or in a bad humor, it is quite the reverse (Leighton, p. 144). This is also referred to as a food s nutrient density. In addition to the food choices we make, a vital system in our bodies is composed of several organs that work together to chew, swallow, breakdown, absorb, and expel what was once lunch, into usable energy for every day tasks (Yale, Kathleen). Believe it or not, your digestive tract is lined with epithelial cells, supporting the notion that we are theoretically hollow and open to the outside world, almost like a donut. Epithelial cells, while simplistic in nature, carry out various complex functions, but of the most important is their ability to secrete mucous and absorb nutrients. In the stomach, these functions are vital in not only the secretion of HCl, but also protecting us from the HCl itself. Lining the stomach is an epithelial mucosa layer known as the secretory sheet, which produces a carpet of mucus that covers the interior surface of the stomach. This alkaline mucous layer protects epithelial cells against the acid and enzymes in the gastric lumen. World War II turning points are much more important than penicillin. If there were not any breaks for the American troops, then there would have been many more lives lost in the war than needed. Possibly, there would be more lives lost in the fighting than saved by penicillin in its fist two decades of public use. Penicillin has helped save many lives throughout the years. • 28. Altruistic And Of Altruistic Acts Introduction In this section, I will deliver my idea on when people tend to be altruistic and who they are prone to act on it. I make the assumption that the reason why someone would be altruistic would be something that varies upon the individual, and the event they are altruistic, I hold it as a multidimensional explanation in answering why. I think this because I can see all these models having partial truth in the reality of how it is, I am sure that one person might help another due to empathy, and that another might do it so they get the attention of their possible sexual partner, etc. Every model can be correct depending on the person, and the event. I include event rather than solely person, because although a person might often choose to be altruistic in many events for a particular reason, this same reason doesn t necessarily have to be the case for every event they are altruistic. However, my topic deals with my belief that who, and when altruistic acts are likely to be executed. My premises for this idea are that when and who people are altruistic with is something that is less fluid, than a multidimensional theory on why altruismexists, enough so that it doesn t become an absolute principle, but a psychological tendency. This is my rough theoretical model for a psychological tendency in altruism that I believe to be constantly realizing. Basic Theoretical Model It is in my belief that the idea of diffusion is applicable as an explanation or support of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Restraint of Feminine Power in Kubla Kahn, Heart of... Feminine power has long struck awe into the very heart of humanity. From modern believers in a single female God to the early Pagan religions, which considered every woman a goddess due to the mysterious and god like power of the sacred feminine to create life, people of various faiths and time periods have revered the powers of womanhood. In traditional American culture, however, women are supposedly powerless and fragile, and men supposedly have both physical and political power. Is this true for modern society? Are our genderroles such that women are fragile and powerless, despite the historical prevalence of faith in the mysterious and creative powers of the female? Or are men fragile, and is modern feminine power not diminished... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poetic depiction of the first woman emanates a feeling of mystery, because she exists within the poem but not the setting that is, she appears only for the effect of comparison and because of her mysterious circumstances: why would she feel so pained as to be wailing ? Who, and what, is her demon lover ? The speaker s illustration of the second woman also exudes mystery, for she too exists but not in the scene, and because she originates from an unexplained vision and sings of the non existent Mount Abora (739.I 41). This musical woman also appears to embody creativity, both as a creator of music and as the inspiration for the speaker to build a vast dome. Through such inspiration, the male speaker directs the creativity of this woman toward his own, thereby deriving from her his own generative impulse; thus, the speaker attempts to, in a word, appropriate her creativity for his own use. He deepens this appropriative effect by admitting that his power stems from [drinking] the milk of Paradise (739.I 54), which the previously mentioned females essentially prepare through the succession of powerful female images. The layers of the male s exploitation of the females power bring to light the speaker s own incapacity for original emotion and creativity, and, as a result, expose his true frailty. While the controls to help mitigate the risk have become increasingly sophisticated, so too have the methods in which employees, managers and even third parties defraud victim entities. While some industries seem more at risk than others it is important to recognize the vulnerability that is common to all of them. One industry that seems to be able to avoid the worst of fraudulent acts is the Transportation Industry. The permanent threat of terrorism creates an element of uncertainty when it comes to an airline company s operations. Large investments in required infrastructures are correlated to these challenges (PriceWaterhouseCoopers, 2014). There is also a strong demand for public transport recently as a result of environmental awareness and congestion. Railroads have difficulty meeting this demand because of a limited infrastructure capacity. This public transport competes with roads for investment funds and many planning processes for railroad projects take a long time to deliver (PriceWaterhouseCoopers, 2014). • 33. Family Origin Theory In Anne Of Green Gables Within the movie Anne of Green Gables there is a compelling demonstration of the Family Origin theory. As Anne Shirley grows up and becomes married she is influenced by the parents who adopted her. As she is adopted by Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert (who are siblings) when she is eleven years old, she acquires attributes from each of them that are carried on throughout her life. Although she was adopted as a young teenager she never truly had a family to begin with so her adoption into this family became her Family of Origin. The boldness and directness Anne developed came from her mother Marilla whereas her kind, giving, and hardworking attributes came from her father Matthew. Her father Matthew created a memory in her life as he died when she was only sixteen. This event impacted her life immensely as she tried to live like he would. These qualities and memories carried over into her career as a teacher as well as into her marriage with Gilbert Blythe. The Family of Origin Theory impacts many individuals as they carry on the attributes found in the family they originated from. According to the Figure 11.1 in the Marriages and Families textbook, Anne s family would most likely be classified as a structurally connected family. This theory encompasses everything from talents, attitudes, values, and their future relationships. Anne Shirley is a good example of how her family influenced her behavior and choices as she grew older. As a teacher Anne Shirley encountered many events where she exhibited kindness and courtesy just as her father did. She gave respect even to the youngest of the students when they were bullied and picked on during school as well as showing respect in disciplining the bully. She found value in each of them just as Matthew Cuthbert had in those around him. Anne was also a bold and direct teacher because of the discipline that came from her mother Marilla. She often stood up for her students when they felt misunderstood or unwanted. Anne s Family of Origin allowed her to become a better teacher because of her experiences in her family growing up. The founder, Siddhartha Gautama, was born (ca. 563 B.C.E.) in a place called Lumbini near the Himalayan foothills, and he began teaching around Benares (at Sarnath). The Buddha was a member of the kshatriya caste who abandoned his privileged life to seek the meaning of life. The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is an introspective self report questionnaire claiming to indicate psychological preferences in how people perceive the world around them and make decisions. The MBTI was constructed by Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers. It is based on the typological theory proposed by Carl Jung, who had speculated that there are four principal psychological functions by which humans experience the world sensation, intuition, feeling, and thinking and that one of these four functions is dominant for a person most of the time. The MBTI was constructed for normal populations and emphasizes the value of naturally occurring differences . The underlying assumption of the MBTI is that we all have specific preferences in the way we construe our experiences, and these preferences underlie our interests, needs, values, and motivation. Typically, the MBTI questionnaire takes about 30 minutes to complete but there is no time limit. Feedback is provided by a qualified practitioner who is trained in the interpretation of the MBTI and a range of comprehensive reports are available depending on your individual requirements. • 42. Theme Of Love In City Lights I.The one theme that connects all the films we have watched in this class is an overall theme of love this love presents itself in many different ways. In City Lights, the love between The tramp and the blind girl, in Central Station it is the love between two strangers, Dora and Josue, The Namesake has the lovein an arranged marriage, Children of Heaven, the love between a brother and sister, and The Kite Runner has love between two best friends that transcends the generations. All of these movies have very different sets of characters, plots, settings, and cultures but the one theme connecting them all is love. This love presents itself in many different ways, but the love is present all the same. City Lights by Charlie Chaplin took place right here in the United States and started off the semester with a traditional view of love as a culture we often view falling in love with someone as the ideal what everyone wants. We especially want someone to love us for who we are, not the money or things that we have. In City Lights, the Tramp inadvertently tricks the blind girl into thinking that he has a lot of money. However despite this deception, he loves her, he wants to do what is best for her, even if it gets him in trouble or sends her away from him. He tries working hard to get her what she needs a cure for her blindness. Working hard does not work out for him, and he goes to great lengths to get the money for her, including the boxing match and asking the millionaire for help. He does this because he loves her deeply and he wants what is best for her. The movie ends with her being able to see and still accepting him despite the fact that he is not a millionaire. This film portrays the great American love story putting the other person first, and loving them despite their circumstances. Central Station from Brazil by Walter Salles depicts a different kind of love. This movie could have been about Josue, and the love with his mother or his brothers at the end when he finds them instead it is about the love between him and Dora, an old, sad woman with no relation to him. Throughout the film, Dora always tries to do what she thinks is best for Josue. It is misguided at first, when she sells him to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By the time of Marlowe s death, Shakespeare was already well known for his three part Henry VI in 1592 (Lace, 79). His plays Love s Labour s Lost and Romeo and Juliet , both in 1594, were performed and he became the most outstanding playwright of his time (Lace, 79).
