Wisconsin Essay
Introduction: Wisconsin is located in the Midwest region and borders Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, and
Illinois as well as Lake Michigan. The landscape is divided into five regions; Lake Superior lowland,
northern highland, central plain, eastern ridges and lowlands, and the western upland. The monthly
average temperatures range between 82 degrees and 5 degrees. The average amount of rain fall is
between twenty eight to thirty four inches. Wisconsin also experiences cold, snowy winters. The main
sports cities in Wisconsin are Cable, Hayward, Madison, Milwaukee and Green Bay. Wisconsin is big

Slumdog Millionaire Theme Symbolism
Although the setting of Slumdog Millionaire by Danny Boyle and A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night
by Ana Lily Amirpour are different, they both use the plot structure and symbolism to present the
common theme: the destiny, which can be shaped by choices and actions.
The life story of the protagonist Jamal Malik in Slumdog Millionaire is built through the game show
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and a series of his flashbacks revealing how his life experiences gave
him the right answers to every quiz question in the show. It displays the way he formed his destiny. On
the day when running away from the Hindu rioters who brutally killed his mother just because of the
religious difference, Jamal accidentally met Latika. Driven by the ... Show more content on

Lack of education, he hardly could know the answers to the quiz on a wide range of topics. However,
he won the top prize of the show and became a millionaire. There is no answer to his happy ending
other than It is written , or, It is destiny . Jamal s destiny is the result of his actions. If he had not
earned an honest living by being a chaiwallah at a mobile phone company s call center, he would
never have known how to get the chance to join the game show. If he had not been a contestant on the
game show, he would never have become the millionaire. He tried to change the life he was given,
created his own life, chose the paths he took that made him who he is ultimately destined to become.
Finding Latika at the railway station in the last scene of the film, he said, This is our destiny (1:47:56).
Eventually, a young uneducated man whose life was full of poverty and tragedy got his destiny,
becoming a millionaire and enjoying the true love after many painful life experiences.
A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night portrays the main character The Girl as scary and lethal, but
human in both appearance and motive. She is a chador wearing female vampire who wanders in Bad
City at night to stalk. Parallelly, she is also a pretty young girl wearing a striped shirt and putting on
lipstick, preying on immoral men. She created her own destiny and shaped it with her choices and
actions. The life of The Girl and

Comparative Analysis of Adaptive Threshold Based Spectrum Sensing Techniques in Cognitive Radio
Networks
Abstract: In the last two decades, the number of wireless communication users and its applications
increasing rapidly. With this rapid growth there exists spectrum scarcity. One of the best solutions to
avoid spectrum scarcity is cognitive radio with its dynamic spectrum sensing. Cognitive radio is a
promising technology, which is used to sense the unused spectrum in an appropriate manner. Various
methods have been proposed in the past, such as energy detection, matched filter and so on [1 6 7].
Different techniques serve different purpose based on their advantages and disadvantages.
In this paper, the author suggests an approach of dynamic threshold to increase the probability
detection of spectrum sensing. Spectrum sensing using energy detection, matched filter detectors
based on fixed threshold and dynamic threshold are simulated using MATLAB. The performance of
energy detection, matched filter detector is compared by plotting probability detection versus signal to
noise ratio graph.
Keywords: Spectrum Sensing, Cognitive Radio, Wireless Communication, Energy Detection, Matched

A Memorable Moment In My Life
I remember this tragedy like it was this morning. My aunt was out of town, so I was staying with my
first cousin Andrew. I woke up fairly early for a weekend and had a cup of the best dark roast from
Starbucks in my pink and white polka dot coffee cup, along with 2 tablespoons of rich french vanilla
creamer. With my coffee, I went to go sit outside to listen to the bird s chirp, get a bit of fresh air and
clear my head for the long day ahead of me. In my cousin s backyard, they have a tall fogged glass
patio set, sitting upon the rustic wood patio. Sitting in the backyard made me feel as though it was just
me and nature herself, so put together, beautiful and calm. It was black Friday and my cousin and I
were going to head to my house for our families traditional pierogi making after breakfast. My mother
As well as other family members were already waiting there for our arrival. We got into the car and
rolled down the windows and started to play our favorite music. Once we got into the car we were
sitting there for a moment just on our phones and having a casual conversation. My cousin had
mentioned his friend getting into a car accident the month before, and we were positive that we were
going to be okay because he was a safe driver, and wanted to get both of us there safely. Andrew soon
started to drive on the way to my house, and the gas light turned on. My cousin pulled to the nearest
gas station. As we pulled in I got chills all the way from the bottom of my feet

Carl Sandburg and How He was Influenced by Walt Whitman...
Carl Sandburg and How He was Influenced by Walt Whitman
Carl Sandburg and Walt Whitman had very similar lives. They both came from working class families
and neither one of them went to high school or graduated college. They learned from watching people
and by reading books on their own. They both had a certain sense for the world that made them able to
see what was going on around them and grasp its significance. Although Whitman was born sixty
years before Sandburg there were still a lot of the same things happening in America and they both
picked up on one important factor of the time, that of the average working class man. Whitman and
Sandburg admired the working class man for all of his hard work and they wrote a lot about this ...

singing with melodious voices, melodious thoughts. Come! Some of you! Still be flooding The States

From this poem one can feel the compassion that Whitman has for the common American
workingman. He has much respect for him and believes that he is what makes up America and what
causes America to keep on moving. He portrays the workers to all be singing to emphasize that they
are proud of the work that they do. Whitman and Sandburg both enjoy going through and naming each
of the workers separately in order to display the vast number of people who fall into the working class.
In the poem above you can see how Whitman talks about how the different workers enjoy their jobs
and are happy with the talents that they have in their specialized positions. The last line of part 1
demonstrates how the workers leave their work and are able to relax and enjoy their lives at night
when the work day is over. The second part of I hear American Singing is Whitman sending an

Myers-Briggs Assessment
After taking a Myers Briggs assessment my mind has been changed. The very first time I took any
kind of personal assessment was my second year of college. I had taken my general education classes
and it was time to pick a major. The thing is, what 19 year old know what they want to do for the rest
of their lives? None I tell you! So I went to an advisor and was given the test. Many seemingly
random questions the results were in; you can be a doctor or lawyer or astronaut they said! The least
helpful 45 minutes of my life I gave to that advisor. Taking the Myers Briggs seemed no different. A
long test with seemingly unsystematic questions about nothing specific. This time, for the first time, I
got it. After I read the results I understood. This test didn t try to tell me what career I should select, or
what degree to pick. It simply gave me results about me. My result gave me a type ISTP, where each
letter stands for personality traits. Introversion, Sensing, Thinking, and Perception. To me that didn t
mean much, until I started reading up on them. With every sentence I found myself agreeing more and

attention on the details rather than the big picture, and on immediate realities rather than future

worried about the future, or things they had no control over. If you can t know what tomorrow holds
then why worry about it? Live in the now, how hard can it be? I often thought to myself. Now I know,
it can be hard. If that s not part of your personality, part of how God made you to think, that can be
very hard. Just as hard as it is for me to be around large groups of people for extended periods of

After less than 30 minutes of play the under 20 Chinese national football team vacated the pitch in
protest, signaling an early end to the first in a series of 16 friendly matches. The unfurling of four
Tibetan flags, and accompanying free Tibet chant, were provocations manager Sun Jihai could not
ignore. Had he done so, the incident would have merited little more than a paragraph on an otherwise
ordinary fourth division game. Instead, the demonstration, as well as future game plans, became the
topic of debate on talk shows in Germany, Asia, and with football fans worldwide. How we got to this
point is an intriguing story.

It is doubtful the protesters knew just how impactive and successful their act would become.
The incident took on heightened international significance when Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman
Lu Kang made note of the game during a press briefing. We are firmly opposed to any country or any
individual offering support to separatist, anti China and terrorist activities or activities defending Tibet
independence, in any form or under any pretext. Kang admonished German authorities as well, I must
stress that mutual respect is what the official host should provide their guest, and that respect between
any two countries should be mutual. The Global Times newspaper, seen as an arm of the Chinese
communist party, backed the manager s decision in their editorial citing FIFA regulations restricting
political banners at games. China s national junior team handled themselves correctly, demanding that
German authorities take action against the flag of advocates of Tibetan independence. The German
authorities should be ashamed that they did not have control in the stadium.
Minister Lu Kang s remarks did not receive a response from German government officials, but fueled
further media debate causing regional soccer president Ronny Zimmerman to reassess his initial
statement of support. He saw no merit in the Chinese rebuke, We cannot ban the protests, there is the

wide. Her role in feminsim, along with the personal relationships in her life, influanced her literary.
Virginias relationships throughout her life contributed not only to her literature, but the quality of her

Virginia and Leslie both had strong personalities and rapid mood changes. Woolf portrayed her father,
like her mother, through characterization in To the Lighthouse. Mr. Ramsey captures her father as a
man of baffling mutability, a lightening switch from the most lovable of men, to a famished
wolfhound and back again (Gordon 22). This portrayal of Leslie Stephens relates to his uncontrollable
rages and mood swings. Leslie Stephen not only controlled Virginia s mental development, but her
intellectual development as well. He became his daughters mentor, and trained her to become his
intellectual aire (Bond 60). Mr. Ramsey parallels Woolf s father in his need to pass his intellectual
nature onto his children (Gordon 26). Leslie Stephen saw no problem with his uncontrollable
behavior. Virginia, on the other hand, found it infuriating. She established: In the creation of this

The After Math of a Raised Hand What is the harm of a little physical reinforcement to ensure
children know how to properly act in society? This idea of physical reinforcement is also known as
corporal punishment and is still present today in southern American states including some Texas
school systems. Corporal Punishment is defined as a punishment of a physical nature, such as caning,
flogging, or beating however this fails to include the psychological implications of corporal
punishment in schools (corporal punishment). The benefits of corporal punishment in the short run are
outweighed by the negative effects the punishment produces evident by the Social learning theory, anti

The conditions to model this violent behavior includes attention, retention, reproduction, and
motivation which can be interpreted as the attention to the fact that violence is an adult s response
causes a child to model the behavior of the adults around them resulting in more violence (Bandura).
Subconsciously most adults tend to believe that the easiest way to deal with a disobedient child or
person is to physically harm. This answer of violence more times than not stems from the anger a
student caused in doing wrong. Justification for corporal punishment originates from the past and is
often the defense of pro corporal punishment advocates. Physical punishment can be traced back to
ancient times exemplified in Egypt, concerning the slaves that built the pyramids, these deep roots of
physical punishment are often referred to as a form of proof that it works. To use Egyptian violence as
an example is pushing the envelope of what corporal punishment is today, however the reaction to that
punishment is similar because human nature is present in both time periods. Punishment in and of
itself is not inheritably detrimental to a person s development, however in the case of school corporal
punishment the extra violent input into a child can produce unintended violence later in life.

Predicting Life Expectancy
The quest to prolong our youth continues today, though not through lengthy field explorations, but
through improvements in health, nutrition, and medicine. A healthy diet, regular exercise, and
vaccinations can greatly improve an individual s life expectancy, while an outbreak of disease,
malnutrition, and social unrest can drastically lower an individual s life expectancy.
But how are life expectancies affected on a national level?
While these factors are central to living longer, they alone cannot be the only facets. The social and
economic conditions of each country will undoubtedly affect its citizens, their lifestyles and decisions.
Citizens of wealthier countries have access to modern medicine and medical facilities, the ... Show

Methodology
To determine the best model, I used the standard regression equation:
Y=α+ β1X1 +β2X2+β3X3+ ....+ β6X6
I check that the data is independent and identically distributed with a mean that follows the regression
equation above, and a constant variance.
Using the F test and partial F test, I drop input variables from the model that do not provide much
additional information over the other variables. Finally, I determine a model that has only significant
variables and a reasonable R squared. R squared is a measure of how well the model explains the
response variable. For example, if R squared is 99%, then 99% of the variation in the response
variable can be explained by variation in the input variables.
Results
First, I regress Y on all of the input variables, which produces the following output:
Overall, this model does provide some information that can be used to

Metaphor and Imagery in Galway Kinnell s Poem, Blackberry...
The Use of Metaphor and Imagery in Galway Kinnell s Poem, Blackberry Eating
Written in 1980, Galway Kinnell s Blackberry Eating is a poem which creates a strong metaphoric
relationship between the tangible objects of blackberries, and the intangible objects of words. The
speaker of the poem feels a strong attraction to the sensory characteristics (the touch, taste, and look)
of blackberries. The attraction he feels at the beginning of the poem exclusively for blackberries is
paralleled in the end by his appetite and attraction to words. The rush the speaker gets out of
blackberry eating is paralleled to the enjoyment he finds in thinking about certain words; words which
call up the same sensory images the blackberries embody. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third line states the speaker s purpose. He is going out to eat the blackberries for breakfast. This
line shows that the speaker not only has an attraction to the berries aesthetic qualities but also craves
them to satiate his appetite. The speaker s appetite for the berries is later paralleled to his appetite for
words. In the next line, the speaker describes the stalks of the blackberry bushes as very prickly. This
is the first negative image used in association with the blackberries. All the previous images have been
positive characteristics of blackberries fat, overripe, icy, and black. Perhaps, this negative image of the
prickly stalks is being used to show that along with pleasure invariably comes pain in the natural
world. This same idea used in the context of the words suggests the two fold potential of words to
both benefit and harm. In the next line, the prickly stalks are attributed as a penalty that they
[blackberry bushes] earn for knowing the black art. This imagery of the flowering of the bushes being
a black art lends a magical, bewitching quality to the blackberries, an idea that there is something
wickedly tempting about the berries. In connecting this idea to the word metaphor, it shows that the
ability to tempt and persuade with words can also be a form of black art. In the next line, the speaker
talks about standing among the blackberries and lifting the stalks to his mouth where the

The Impact Of Immigration On The United States
In the late 19th century the United States experienced a wave of immigrants looking for work and/or
escaping worsening conditions in their home countries. These immigrants, predominantly received
through Ellis Island on the East Coast, would settle down in larger urbanized cities such as New York
and Chicago. This was partially due to the amount of available jobs and housing, but also because of
the appeal of staying close to other families from their homeland. By gathering in these communities
they were able to keep their traditions alive through things such as native language and religion.
However, since many of the immigrants were low income households, the communities were largely
forced to live in poverty level housing and provided with almost no social services by the federal
government. It was this need for welfare that enabled political urban machines to rise in power. By
providing support such as jobs and services to impoverished immigrant communities, these
organizations thrived off of the loyalty, and therefore votes, that they received in return. Historical
Background Although the amount of people living in cities had vastly increased since the late 18th
century, the representation for cities in state legislature and congress did not increase to reflect this
change in dynamic. By 1870, 44% of New York City s population was made up of immigrants, while
San Francisco s was at 49% (Donovan). With this increase in population came the need for an increase

90) Since 2004 the demand for gasoline has been constant and the price of gasoline has continued to
rise, causing gasoline expenditures to rise astronomically. However, given that an acceptable substitute
for gasoline does not exist, consumers are unable to cutback on the amount of gasoline being
consumed. The article suggests that some reasons for consumers inability or unwillingness to cutback
on the consumption of gasoline are long commutes, the use of vehicles which are not fuel efficient and
a lack of alternative solutions such as carpooling and public transit options. The law of supply also
suggests that if a firm cuts back on the amount of a good being supplied, the cost of cutting back
outweighs the cost of continuing the supply. The Law of Demand The examination of the correlation
between the price of a good and the law of demand is necessary to predict how market forces react to
a reduced supply of goods. Dictionary.com defines price as the sum or amount of money or its
equivalent for which anything is bought, sold, or offered for sale. (para. 2) Price is an essential
ingredient of the law of demand. The law of demand is quantity demanded decreases as price
increases, all other things being constant (Colander, 2004, p. 188) The substitution of alternate goods
accounts for the law of demand. As the price of goods such as gasoline increases, people tend to
replace it with similar goods which may have a lower price. If a good has

Catalonia, Spain And Spain
For some time now there has been an issue in a part of Spain called Catalonia that I think it s worrying
and also concerning the whole country. I m originally from that part of Spain and I have spent all my
life there before I came to the United States, so this is very important to me and it affects my life in
every possible aspect.
Catalonia and Spain have been not really liking each other for about 300 years now because of some
war events that happened in 1714. But that feeling increased in the 1800s 1900s when a new
ideological and political movement called Catalan nationalism started to appear. That movement said
that Catalonia is a nation and it stands out the own values of its historical personality (traditions,
culture and language). This belief was in a lot of people s minds, but it started to increase about 10
years ago when both Spanish and Catalonian government had a fight about some laws. Since that, we
could say that the Independence has started (we call it like that). Because of this, constant
manifestations and protests have been usual in Catalonia (and usually this acts include people with
posters and pictures insulting Spain and sometimes also burning and breaking Spanish flags or photos
of the King with the Royal Family, etc.) A lot of everyday normal things have changed too. For
example, if you speak Spanish in Catalonia, some people might insult you saying you are fascist
(Their argument is that in Catalonia you should speak Catalan and not

Oxidation Of Hydrocarbon Essay
2.2 Experimental Method
Numerical experimental facilities can be used to investigate the oxidation of hydrocarbon, including
the JP 8 surrogates. While different facilities have their own advantages on different research with
wide ranges of temperature, pressure and residence time, every single research on various facilities is
necessary to depict the whole hydrocarbon oxidation mechanism of JP 8 surrogates. In this chapter, a
brief review of each of these facilities is described below

Lenhert (2004) conducted the experiment of n dodecane in the PFR facilities. The oxidation of n
dodecane in the low and intermediate temperature regime can produce broad array of hydrocarbons
species. The identified species indicates significant insight into the oxidation mechanism. Compared
the experimental results to a lumped model by Ranzi and Faravelli (Agosta et al., 2004), the
experimental results suggest several changes to the mechanism that could improve its accuracy.
Firstly, the experiment results suggest that a C6 radical species should replace the current C7 radicals.
Secondly, the very low carbon balance suggests that C12 oxygenates are likely formed although the
mechanism assumes that no conjugate alkenes of n dodecane are formed. Lenhert also conducted
experiment of mixture of n dodecane and selected hydrocarbon, which is compared to the same
lumped mode. Other than this, some kinds of JP 8 surrogates are investigated in this research and
illustrates that a relatively simple surrogates mixture is adequate to mimic the complex behavior of JP
8.
Farid (2005) conducted experiment of 2,7 dimethyl octane (2,7 DMO), a lightly branched isomer of
decane, in Drexel PFR facility, to investigate the low temperature combustion. The effort resulted in
an updated version of the 2,7 DME mechanism, improving some of the key features such as calculated

In most countries, Tupperware s sales force is organized in a tiered structure with consultants at the

Democratic And Republican Analysis
The election and how government officials are elected is vital to the United States identity as a
Democratic Republic. To fully understand whether the election is fair to the average American citizen,
these four things need to be looked at and understood; the Democratic and Republican platforms and
who the reader agrees with, the procedure and requirements for getting on the ballot to be elected into
the House of Representatives, the many different parties of the United States, and the requirements
and procedures for running for president. After each of these questions are acknowledged, it can be
easily inferred that the current election system that is in place, is fair to American citizens.
When analyzing the differences between the platforms of the Democrats and Republicans, there are
six key issues that differ: wages, education, foreign policy, gun laws, health care, and the size of
government. The issue of wages is most clearly seen in the issue of minimum wage in that Democrats
believe that the current minimum wage is a starvation wage and must be increased to a living wage.

The Voluntary Redundancy Package Has Left The Two With $...
Tim and Tom are interested in inquiring about the possibilities of doing a small business together, a
retail shop in this case. The voluntary redundancy package has left the two with $180,000 and $120,
000 respectively. Tim has minimal savings while Tom has $80,000 in bank account, while they require
$500,000 for the initial setup. In order to reach a solution, a thorough exploration of all the
possibilities is required, gaging every aspect and driving a particular solution. Is Sole Proprietorship
an option? The type of business structure suitable for Tim and Tom depends upon the nature of the
business relationship they want to hold. If Tim and Tom want to work together as business equals then
sole proprietorship is not an option, unless in the case of one owning the firm and hiring the other. In
this case however, the person owning the firm would generally be the one subject to business laws.
From a legal perspective the owner and the firm are a not separate, the owner is unlimitedly liable for
the obligations of the firm. This implies that personal assets are exposed to the risk of business
liability. However, initial set up costs are minimal including; registering a business name, if don t want
to do business with own name, and an ABN (Australian Business Number). If business operations are
carried out without a registered name then it is an offence of strict liability. If Tim and Tom decide to
proceed with this setup, then the firms initial capital would only include

Beowulf Is The Hero Of All Heroes
I m writing about ancient heroes and whether or not they can be heroes at the present day time.im
going to tell you about their pros as in good things about them and their cons as in bad things. I will
also choose one modern day hero to come pare my ancient hero to and tell you where he from either a
movie or a comic book.
Beowulf is my ancient hero. I chose Beowulf because of all the qualities he has. Beowulf is the hero
of all heroes he is strong, and courageous. He would risk his own life to save other people life s. He
never back down to any person or thing and has never run any from a fight. He throws his self at
danger to try to get rid of evil and look for people to help. In this day of age, I don t think he would be
a good hero for a few reasons. Reason number one I think he is really too arrogant to throw his self at
ever one problem thinking he is going to fix it. I personally think a hero should be asking them if they
want your help before they make it worst. Or they can wait till they see someone in danger then throw
yourself in the middle. Reason two I think he s arrogant will be the death of him because he think so
mighty of his self. He will think he is unstoppable and that s where his demise will come from. Reason
three he not that smart he more like a jock most heroes are usually smart and clever Beowulf isn t if he
meant an evenly match villain he cloud loss fairly easy from how choices he make . Reason four is the
way he dresses. The

Police Brutality And Police Officers
The heated issue of police brutality and police officers violating civil rights has extensively covered
media headlines for several years. Hundreds of people are killed every year by police officers, and
many of these cases bring up issues of police brutality. More often than not, it is usually a white police
officer and an african american offender encounter that sparks media attention. The shooting of
Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri is just one of these cases that has caused a major divide in the
United States. Michael Brown was fatally shot by Officer Wilson after an unfriendly encounter in the
streets. Those who believe that Officer Wilson made the right decision in shooting Michael Brown,
point to the fact that the grand jury chose not to indict him. Although Darren WIlson was not charged
after the shooting of unarmed Michael Brown, some people believe that his actions were unlawful and
he should have received some sort of punishment for his wrongdoing. Acknowledging all of the facts
of the investigation, Officer Wilson did not act properly in the circumstances of the time. Many people
believe that Officer Darren Wilson made the right decision when he fatally shot Michael Brown
because he feared for his life. In a report by Rachel Clark and Christopher Lett, CNN reporters, they
describe the incident that led to the shooting began when Wilson left the scene of a sick call and

Why Is The Byzantine Empire Successful
Success of the Byzantine Empire under Justinian
What defines success? Some may say an empire needs a strong army and defence to be the most
successful. Some say that great coded laws and reforms make for the most successful empire. Some
may say that a great government defines success. But the Byzantine Empire under Justinian Rule
showed us that in order to achieve the most success, all of these factors were needed. The Byzantine
Empire under Justinian was successful for a long period of time because of a well organized
government, an amazing leader, and a strong army and defense force. The success came from a strong
government, with ministers doing separate jobs and an organized provincial government, who
established coded laws and reforms, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first reason why Justinian caused the Byzantine empire to succeed during his reign was because
of his new coded system of laws. Justinian inherited a vast amount of Roman laws, called the twelve
tables. (Allen Evans 24, Commire). In 528, Justinian set up a commission to codify the Roman law
(Ostrogorski 74). 1528 books of Roman law were scanned and combined into fifty books divided into
432 chapters (Allen Evans 24). The work was called the Digest, and had immediate impacts on the
Byzantine Empire and then it s long success (Allen Evans 24, Commire). Lawyers were able reference
the laws in court, allowing fairer decisions to be made. The government, now was not only supported
by its army, was also supported by the law (Allen Evans 24, Commire). Both of these things were very
important to the success of the empire. Civilians had the ability to go to court and make sure that
decisions were based on hundreds of years of law written out in one place, and not an impulsive
decision of a judge. The government also had an extreme benefit in terms of having written out code
of law, so there could be no arguments in terms of taxation or punishments. This attributed to the
success of the empire because this helped stabilize the empire because important decisions could have
been made based on hundreds of years of law and farer decisions prevented revolts. Coded laws also

Examples Of Archetypes In Little Miss Sunshine
Sabrina Wueste Mr. Rosenast AP Literature 6 16 December 2014 Little Miss Sunshine: A
Contemporary Archetypal Journey Little Miss Sunshine is a perfect interpretation of a journey full of
archetypal characters. Each of the characters has their own individual endeavors that they want to

In the beginning of Little Miss Sunshine, the family faces the issue of not agreeing on a plan for their
trip to Olive s pageant. This is because Richard doubts the journey by asking How re you gonna get
down there (Arndt 22). This brings a faulty start in the initiation of the journey since the hero
archetype character is hesitant in continuing his quest. It is the same when Jewel, the hero in As I Lay
Dying, is unsure of the situation with Addie s death. Little Miss Sunshine also introduces a minor
conflict that is within a character. Specifically, this issue in the characteristics of one the archetypal
character is the ignorance of both Richard and Jewel. Richard is obsessed with his nine steps to
success, so he is blinded by his motto Winners see what they want, they go out and they get it (Arndt
2). However, it is ironic because Richard hides his failures through excuses, through his ignorance and
inability to accept reality. This can be interpreted as a similar conflict in that Jewel is blinded by his
love for his horse Both heroes struggle with their own inner conflicts, yet in the end they manage to
overcome these minor obstacles in themselves. This allows the journey to be

Roe Vs Wade Research Paper
Ever since I can remember abortion has been a very controversial issue to talk about. Roe v. Wade was
a Supreme Court landmark case on this controversial issue. This case was the beginning of a national
debate that continues to date. This case took place in Texas, before the case the law said that unless
you need to save the woman s life because they are endangered then abortion is illegal. The decision
in this case made it legal for women to decide. To this day people are fighting against this. Pro choice
are people who are pro having the choice to have an abortion or not. There are a lot of people who
would just like to make an abortion illegal. I am pro choice and thanks to Roe v. Wade the right for a
woman to decide what she wants to do with her own body was fought against the U.S. Supreme court.
Instead of ending the debate of abortion this decision only made it worse. People who were against it

The desire to control alcohol consumption, or advocate temperance, has been a goal of humanity
throughout countless periods of history. Many countries have had organized temperance movements,
including Australia, Canada, Britain, Denmark, Poland, and of course, the United States. The
American temperance movement was the most widespread reform movement of the 19th century,
culminating in laws that completely banned the sale of all alcoholic beverages. The movement
progressed from its humble local roots to nationwide organizations with millions of members and

This creation of a strong domestic market involved extension of trade links between communities that
were previously not joined. The production of domestic goods increased while the price of the goods
decreased, allowing urban growth and specialization among manufacturers. During this time, a
division formed between men and women, where men s work moved away from home while women s

America soon became a thing of the past. Consumption of alcohol changed greatly after the war as
well. Whiskey became the America s favorite liquor, and a deeply valued trade item. It was efficient to

A Study On The Luxury Hotel Industry
CHAPTER 4. RESEARCH
Overview
This chapter will discuss the methodology used to enhance the study, and justifies it as a fitting
process for the subject of the paper. This chapter opens explaining qualitative methodology and why it
is the chosen method for the study. Then, after, it details the process of data collection.
Qualitative Methodology
The research question of this study concerns how the luxury hotel industry can adapt to Chinese
conceptualizations and consumer behavior. As the study focuses on culture and values, and how they
are represented in Chinese actions and expectations, qualitative methods were determined to be the
best process to understand the issue. We find cultural studies are thoroughly grounded in qualitative
research due to its roots in disciplines such as anthropology. [Atkinson 2005]
Qualitative research is defined as a study that uses nonnumeric data in the form of words (Schwandt,
2001), and provides an interpretive view that in comparison to quantitative research provides different
strategies of inquiry through techniques such as interviews, focus groups, and ethnography.
Qualitative methods allow the researcher to study individuals, consider and discover processes, as well
as learn about the general culture sharing behavior of the subjects or individuals studied (Creswell
2009)
As the study focused on the impact culture has on consumer behavior, the method of qualitative
research chosen were interview styled questions. This is the best

Everyday people are put into tough situations, and how they get past these situations is up to them.
The choice is to overcome these challenges or give up and let the challenge triumph. Cormac
Mccarthy s novel The Road, takes place in a post apocalyptic world in the present day. With ash
covering the land, cannibal groups roaming and freezing temperatures, a father and son manage to stay
strong and survive. The father s main goal is to keep his innocent scared son alive, and teach him life
lessons while doing so. David Benioff s novel City of Thieves, occurs during World War II while the

difficult situations by having faith, and keeping strong relationships. For starters, The Road displays
that people can overcome tough situations by having faith and never giving up. A father and son in the
novel are forced to survive and adapt to a new way of living that includes, searching for food and

The Easter Uprising of 1916
The Easter Uprising of 1916 was an event that happened at the tail end of a long list of events that
would forever change Ireland. The Uprising or Rising, as some call it, took place mostly in Dublin but
was felt throughout Ireland. The point was to gain independence from Great Britain who had ruled
Ireland for the past couple hundred years. At the turn of the 19th century England believed that Ireland
had too much independence and made the Act of Union. The result was the Act of Union of 1801: the
Irish parliament voted itself out of existence and England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales were formally
politically unified for the first time (Hegarty 2). Around the time of the First World War, Ireland began

This modest promise was swept away the Easter Uprising of 1916, when a small band of rebels

Padhraic Pearse led about 2000 people into the Easter Revolution, only a small fraction of the people
that had lived in Dublin at the time. Most of the Irish were involved in World War I. They had little

attention to their cause both locally and abroad.
The Easter Rising led to the arrests of approximately 3500 people. Although more than half were
released after they were questioned; many received unfair trials or no trial at all. When the news broke
to the Irish public about the treatment of the rebels, they also found out that there were 15 fifteen

Briar Rose Symbolism Essay
The story of Briar Rose is about an evil fairy who wasn t invited to a party. As punishment, she puts a

The Brothers Grimm has positioned the audience to see the thirteenth fairy as evil while Briar Rose

Parody In Medusa
The classical tradition in the medieval times has an articulate work of art should stand by itself
without the need of interpretation. As one literally scholar would state, the classical era states that
interpretation is ambiguous, and does not always prevail . Yet, now in our society, art s interpretation
can be one or all: a parody, an abstract, a pastiche, or non art. Pain and suffering constituted things
with which for him to identify. His own family had made a grueling transition from the war and

events, people and things were real or not became debatable However flip and casual his observations

Steroids Be Banned

School athletes are often overstretched by coaches, family, and peers to always win, as a result many

Modern Judaism And Traditional Judaism Essay
There are a fair amount of differences between modern and traditional Judaism. As this is the case it is
only natural that many well known people in all walks of life can be considered modern Jews. This
distinction is very important because as more famous people practice a more modern Jewish culture
and lifestyle, more of the younger generations of the world quickly follow suit. Not only is modern
Judaism accommodating towards modern scholarship, science, culture and a general modernity of the
world, it goes as far as even welcoming it. This is because modern Judaism takes a fairly inclusive
stance towards all that modern society has to offer and provide. (Waxman, 1993) In modern Judaism,
interaction with different culture and knowledge is encouraged, not for the sake of facilitating the
Torah as it is in the traditional Judaism but for the sake of the person, as this outside knowledge is
seen to be part of a larger truth. (Elias, 1960) With these general distinctions between traditional and
modern Judaism, it is easy to find examples of people in popular culture who fit into the classification.
One person who could be argued to be a good example of a modern Jew someone who takes part in
life outside of Jewish culture and welcomes with open arms modernity is Woody Allen. As an 80 year
old man, Allen has had to struggle with the shift from traditional to modern Judaism and create a

The main reason companies have embraced e procurement is to increase productivity, provide
visibility into day to day transactions and make it easier for users to get the supplies that they need.
It has not been an easy road for e procurement as implementation has its challenges and it has taken
time for business managers and procurement departments to fully accept it. The advantages of e
procurement are slowly being understood:
Reducing costs
Costs can be reduced by leveraging volume, having structured supplier relationships and by using
system improvements to reduce external spend while improving quality and supplier performance. E
procurement eliminates paperwork, rework and errors.
Visibility of spend
Centralized tracking of transactions enables full reporting on requisitions, items purchased, orders
processes and payments made. E procurement advantages extend to ensuring compliance with existing
and established contracts.
Productivity
Internal customers can obtain the items they want from a catalogue of approved items through an on
line requisition and ordering

The Three Factors Of The Triangular Theory Of Love
Triangular theory of love
The first topic is the triangular theory of love. There are 3 factors under the triangular theory of love.
They are Commitment, Intimacy and Passion. There are also 8 possible types of relationship which are
Nonlove, Romantic Love, Liking, Fatuous love, Infatuation, Companionate love, Empty love and
consummate love.
After deep analysing of the couples answers, I conclude that their type of relationship is Consummate
love as all 3 Intimacy, Commitment and Passion is present. Of the seven varieties of love,
consummate love is theorized to be that love associated with the perfect couple. (Hill, 2012)
When asked on how they see themselves in 5 years time, both of them similarly answered by saying
they want to have a stable job with enough savings for their marriage and future. This itself shows
their commitment in the relationship as they even went on to think about marriage which is about 10
years from now. Furthermore when asked how they are maintaining their relationship, both of them

Notes On The Pony Express
pg.1 The Pony Express The Pony Express was an extremely important event in history for three
profoundly good reasons. All together, it helped the farther east states to keep in contact with the West,
news of what was happening, important documents, sometimes small packages and family letters were
being sent to different states, and it helped for new and more improved ideas of how could the
spreading of news could be spread faster and safer. The good reason of keeping all the states in contact
with all the others is because families moved or some family members moved to further states for
jobs. Travelers traveled in search for wealth and land and with this certain cause people needed to
know what was going on and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With e mail and e documents, bills and insurance statements, which used to require first class mail to
and from a destination, can now be sent for free and within just a few seconds it is received. But
before the internet was invented other ideas was sparked as well. Ideas how to have contact all over
the world by crossing the ocean faster by air and on the water was invented and later on perfecting in
this time of life.
History: The basic reason, because Pony Express was thought of and put into action is because of the
response to the Civil War and with the Great California Gold Rush. In the midst of the 1800s, as
individuals traveled to the West Coast in search of fortune and with the country teetered on the brink
of war, three businessmen, William H. Russell, William B. Waddell, and Alexander Majors, saw an
opportunity that would help them and also for the people. By keeping the east connected with the
west, the Pony Express held the nation together. Young Pony Express riders charged across the
country by over two thousand miles of wilderness were crossed, including a section of high mountain
desert located in Nevada. For the Pony Express, the standard delivery time for letters were ranged
from days to weeks which sometimes led a month. In 1860, William H. Russell, William B. Waddell,
and Alexander Majors, believed they could change that with the Pony Express. The plans for the Pony
Express were put into action on April 3,1860 as soon as men under 18 from

Gentrification Of Death Essay
Gentrification of death: Behind London s burial crisis Seven boroughs in London contain no new
grave space, and a further 19 will be unable to meet expected demand for burials over the next 20
years, according to local authorities. The shortage of burial space in the capital is reaching a critical
stage in many of its 32 boroughs. Data shows that the majority of them currently lack the capacity to
supply enough graves to meet the level of demand suggested by mortality projections over the next
two decades. Changes to burial legislation gives London boroughs the authority to reuse graves in
order to combat grave shortage. The practice involves placing a new or additional body in an existing
grave, and is being touted as the answer to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Council doesn t even have to get permission from families of the private graves, or even actually
find the families. Councils only have to show they tried to find them. However, Council spokesman
John Wade, said the local authority does not currently reuse graves but may in the future. A similar
scheme is already in place in the City of London, Cemetery Crematorium, where more than 1,500
graves have been reused. The 161 year old cemetery was on the verge of running out of space when
officials decided to begin reusing graves in 2009. It has proven to be a popular choice, with over 60
per cent of burials there now in reused graves. Trevor Davis, Westminster cemeteries manager,
believes the most effective way to stop cemeteries from overflowing is by reusing graves. He said:
New graves can continue to be developed on an indefinite basis as required through
overfill/overvaulting and through reuse. To avoid reusing graves, some cemeteries in London have
created new burial plots. A Greater London Authority audit from 2010 reported that Brockley
Ladywell Cemetery in Lewisham found new burial space by demolishing chapels and clearing land.
Even so, the entire authority of Lewisham will run out of spaces at its four cemeteries in between eight
and 10 years, said Council spokeswoman Alison Beck. Death by the numbers The shortage of burial
plots has led

The Federalist Paper, By Alexander Hamilton, James...
The Federalist Papers are a series of eighty five essays written by Alexander Hamilton, James
Madison, and John Jay, which argued the reasons why the Articles of Confederation should be
strengthened. These articles support the new constitution as well as seek ratification from the states.
On November 7, 1787 John Jay published The Fourth Federalist Paper. In The Fourth Federalist Paper
John Jay explains that the U.S should be unified under a central government rather than function as
multiple independent bodies. The U.S would be better able to obviate from foreign aggressors, trade
with other countries, and the country would be better organized. The issues discussed within The
Fourth Federalist Paper, is still relevant today.

It reiterated that we would be stronger as a whole and with all of the manpower that we have, it would
be really effective against foreign countries that want to fight with the U.S. Weapons could be
manufactured in Ohio but now they could be shipped to New York if they needed weapons and in that
sense we would be more united.
In hindsight, the U.S made the right move in choosing to accept this Federalist Paper. We have the
most advanced military in the world, thanks to new technology and phenomenal programs. This
consists of programs ranging from ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) to the Navy Seals (An
elite military force). ROTC is a program for college students in universities all over the country that
trains and puts them into a position to be successful in a military career. Also, the Navy Seals carry out
special missions. One that many are aware of is the assasination of Osama Bin Laden. I pointed this
out because it shows real life examples of the ideas stated within the Fourth Federalist Paper being
exercised. In my opinion, the ROTC program represents people coming from all over the country to
fight for a single cause. If it were not for John Jay and his willingness to argue the fact that we need to
be unified, then there is always the possibility that certain aspects of the U.S Military would not exist.
Whether firmly united under one national government, or split into a number of confederacies, certain

The criminal justice system is responsible for enforcing the laws created at each level of government.
A major part of enforcing the laws is detaining the people who break them. The way that an offender
is punished for a crime can be different depending on age or the type of crime committed. Depending
on the age of the offender they could go through the juvenile or adult corrections system. Each system
has levels like parole and probation built in to help rehabilitate the offender. Another form of
corrections that is used is community corrections. This form allows citizens to help with the

With jails and prisons facing an increasing overpopulation problem, with less staff, and budget cuts
more and more probation, parole, and community corrections are becoming a solution (manhattan
institute.org, 2000). Parole and probation function through their operation programs such as their case
classification system (Burrell, 2003). This system allows the parole board to classify which cases
should be considered for early release and which ones should not. Once a case is determined to be
eligible for parole, then probation uses the case classification system to decide if the case is high risk
or low risk (manhattan institute.org, 2000). Community corrections becomes a part of the parole and
probation services once the inmate is released into the community by operating residential and secure
custodial facilities and provide free labor to local organizations through community service programs,
probation and parole are best known for their role in the supervision of offenders in the community
(Burrell, 2003, p. 1). The administration in jails, prisons, parole, probation, and community
corrections have many different

Tennessee Williams Presentation Of Desire In A Streetcar...
Explore Tennessee Williams presentation of desire.
Desire is hinted at in the play s title, A Streetcar Named Desire , it became the moving force and
central to the play s development. Desire ultimately carries Blanche to her fate in scene 5. Tennessee
Williams presents desire in many forms but the most prominent and notable being sexual desire lust.
Lust is the main form of desire among the main characters.
Blanche is the character that is mostly associated with desire as she rode a streetcar named Desire then
one called cemeteries . By this Williams is possibly saying that death is the inevitable destinations for
those who allow their worldly desires to lead them. Blanche s experimental sexual desires were ma de
a taboo by her upbringing and culture resulting in her suppressing her desires. Her then denial of these
desires caused her to be driven out of her home town and throw herself at younger boys. We also learn
later in the play that desire is one of her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although they are speaking metaphorically it is clear what each of them are referring to. Her face is
serene , the apology sex Stella and Stanley have leaves the glow on her face. Her attitude implies that
she has completely forgotten about the abuse the night before. Stella s own sexual desires blind her
from seeing the truth about her husband, an abusive animal. A sky of summer brilliance , the pathetic
fallacy in the scene reflects Stella s blushing mood which only reinforces how her lust has made her to
forget the cruelty she induced. Almost narcotized tranquillity this metaphor of her appearance suggest
that her sexual desire is like a drug. The comparison of drugs and sex is made again when Blanche
says your fix is worse than mine which shows how sexual desire is like an addiction for both sisters.
The force of desire drives Stella to abandon herself and her integrity to her passion for

Dust Bowl Women
The more fella s he can get, less he s gonna pay. An he ll get a fella with kids if he can, (The Grapes of
Wrath, pg. 128). The dust bowl was a difficult time in American history, and possibly the most
difficult for the American family. In the photo, Mother and Two Children on the Road, you see a
mother and her two children squatting in a car. As stated in the quote employers at this time would
often try to get men with children as their workers. I believe this is because men with children would
often be more intent on keeping their job and would work for less just to make enough to care for their
family. In the photo, I think Dorthea Lange, is showing the woman s struggle and her love for her
children. While the men were off working to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Often we see the struggle the men went through during the dust bowl, having to provide for
themselves and their families by working in laborious conditions for very little pay. This photo instead
shows the struggles of the dust bowl, from the woman s point of view. While the men were working in
the fields, this woman is shown taking care of her two children, which is her biggest responsibility.
From the picture we can tell by her shabby looking coat, the dirt on the children s faces, and her
tangled hair that she obviously has very little resources to care for the children with. For the most part
I think this picture was taken to show the woman s struggle and the strength she s had to muster to
take care of these children, during this difficult time. On her finger you can also see a ring which I
believe appeals to the value of family, even in these hard times. While I m sure many women resorted
to hawking their rings for a little extra cash, this woman shows that no matter how bad things are she
is still holding onto the past and things that remind her and others that she is devoted to her

The Roles Of Divine Power-Supportinga In Iliad And God In...
Divine powers moira in Iliad and God in Genesis drove the actions of Andromache and Rebekah, who
in turn influenced action in their respective stories (Rothleder discussion). Andromache s influence
was largely due to the way she interacted with her husband Hector, who was a great warrior on the
side of the Trojans in the Trojan war (Il. p. 500). Similarly, in Genesis, Rebekah s abilities to control
domestic resources brought blessings to her younger son, even though he was less favored by his
father (Gen 25:28; Gen 27:14 29). So, while these two women were very different, they also shared
many commonalities and they both performed actions that helped the greater power in their respective
texts to carry out a plan that did not necessarily fit into the plan the humans had in mind.
Andromache s marriage to Hector meant that her identity largely resided with her husband, the great
Trojan warrior (Rothleder discussion). Hector was all Andromache had as described in her speech to
him when she stated Hector, you are my father, you are my mother, You are my brother and my
blossoming husband (Il. 6.451 452). Andromache had already experienced the loss of her mother and
father at the hands of Achilles, and she made it very clear that she did not want to experience the pain
of losing her husband in the same way (Il. 6.35 37). Additionally, she knew that she would be nothing
without Hector, and so she begged him not to return to the fighting because she did not want him to
die. She

First of all, Mr. King got his first job as an auto shop repairer when he was a junior, this job was a part

and unforgettable because it built a path of his career. However, he found some difficulties of this job,
such as the communication was a big issue because when students enter to workforce, the way that
people communicate is different than the way that students learn in colleges.
Just right after graduate, some students might have hard time to find a professional position as an
engineer. During the interview, this engineer suggests that from the different perspectives, the students
should get employed first, then, think about their career. In Your First Job Doesn t (Really) Matter,
Jodi Glickman, a contributor to the Harvard Business Review, describes the pre job training and
knowledge that people learn should not be all for their professional learning. Indeed, she says what
she did do is learn a whole lot about myself, about relating to others, about adjusting expectations and
managing difficult workplace environments (Glickman). Same as what Glickman describes, Mr. King
did not suggest that student should immediately get into their professional working when they get their
first job or do not be too concerned about whether their first job is related to their major. For them, the

  • 3. Slumdog Millionaire Theme Symbolism Although the setting of Slumdog Millionaire by Danny Boyle and A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night by Ana Lily Amirpour are different, they both use the plot structure and symbolism to present the common theme: the destiny, which can be shaped by choices and actions. The life story of the protagonist Jamal Malik in Slumdog Millionaire is built through the game show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? and a series of his flashbacks revealing how his life experiences gave him the right answers to every quiz question in the show. It displays the way he formed his destiny. On the day when running away from the Hindu rioters who brutally killed his mother just because of the religious difference, Jamal accidentally met Latika. However, he won the top prize of the show and became a millionaire. There is no answer to his happy ending other than It is written , or, It is destiny . Jamal s destiny is the result of his actions. If he had not earned an honest living by being a chaiwallah at a mobile phone company s call center, he would never have known how to get the chance to join the game show. If he had not been a contestant on the game show, he would never have become the millionaire. He tried to change the life he was given, created his own life, chose the paths he took that made him who he is ultimately destined to become. Finding Latika at the railway station in the last scene of the film, he said, This is our destiny (1:47:56). Eventually, a young uneducated man whose life was full of poverty and tragedy got his destiny, becoming a millionaire and enjoying the true love after many painful life experiences. A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night portrays the main character The Girl as scary and lethal, but human in both appearance and motive. She is a chador wearing female vampire who wanders in Bad City at night to stalk. Parallelly, she is also a pretty young girl wearing a striped shirt and putting on lipstick, preying on immoral men. Comparative Analysis of Adaptive Threshold Based Spectrum Sensing Techniques in Cognitive Radio Networks Abstract: In the last two decades, the number of wireless communication users and its applications increasing rapidly. With this rapid growth there exists spectrum scarcity. One of the best solutions to avoid spectrum scarcity is cognitive radio with its dynamic spectrum sensing. Cognitive radio is a promising technology, which is used to sense the unused spectrum in an appropriate manner. Various methods have been proposed in the past, such as energy detection, matched filter and so on [1 6 7]. Different techniques serve different purpose based on their advantages and disadvantages. In this paper, the author suggests an approach of dynamic threshold to increase the probability detection of spectrum sensing. Spectrum sensing using energy detection, matched filter detectors based on fixed threshold and dynamic threshold are simulated using MATLAB. The performance of energy detection, matched filter detector is compared by plotting probability detection versus signal to noise ratio graph. Keywords: Spectrum Sensing, Cognitive Radio, Wireless Communication, Energy Detection, Matched Filter, Probability Detection and Threshold. I. • 6. A Memorable Moment In My Life I remember this tragedy like it was this morning. My aunt was out of town, so I was staying with my first cousin Andrew. I woke up fairly early for a weekend and had a cup of the best dark roast from Starbucks in my pink and white polka dot coffee cup, along with 2 tablespoons of rich french vanilla creamer. With my coffee, I went to go sit outside to listen to the bird s chirp, get a bit of fresh air and clear my head for the long day ahead of me. In my cousin s backyard, they have a tall fogged glass patio set, sitting upon the rustic wood patio. Sitting in the backyard made me feel as though it was just me and nature herself, so put together, beautiful and calm. It was black Friday and my cousin and I were going to head to my house for our families traditional pierogi making after breakfast. My mother As well as other family members were already waiting there for our arrival. We got into the car and rolled down the windows and started to play our favorite music. Once we got into the car we were sitting there for a moment just on our phones and having a casual conversation. My cousin had mentioned his friend getting into a car accident the month before, and we were positive that we were going to be okay because he was a safe driver, and wanted to get both of us there safely. Andrew soon started to drive on the way to my house, and the gas light turned on. My cousin pulled to the nearest gas station. As we pulled in I got chills all the way from the bottom of my feet ... They both came from working class families and neither one of them went to high school or graduated college. They learned from watching people and by reading books on their own. They both had a certain sense for the world that made them able to see what was going on around them and grasp its significance. Although Whitman was born sixty years before Sandburg there were still a lot of the same things happening in America and they both picked up on one important factor of the time, that of the average working class man. He has much respect for him and believes that he is what makes up America and what causes America to keep on moving. He portrays the workers to all be singing to emphasize that they are proud of the work that they do. Whitman and Sandburg both enjoy going through and naming each of the workers separately in order to display the vast number of people who fall into the working class. In the poem above you can see how Whitman talks about how the different workers enjoy their jobs and are happy with the talents that they have in their specialized positions. • 8. Myers-Briggs Assessment After taking a Myers Briggs assessment my mind has been changed. The very first time I took any kind of personal assessment was my second year of college. I had taken my general education classes and it was time to pick a major. The thing is, what 19 year old know what they want to do for the rest of their lives? None I tell you! So I went to an advisor and was given the test. Many seemingly random questions the results were in; you can be a doctor or lawyer or astronaut they said! The least helpful 45 minutes of my life I gave to that advisor. Taking the Myers Briggs seemed no different. A long test with seemingly unsystematic questions about nothing specific. This time, for the first time, I got it. After I read the results I understood. This test didn t try to tell me what career I should select, or what degree to pick. It simply gave me results about me. My result gave me a type ISTP, where each letter stands for personality traits. Introversion, Sensing, Thinking, and Perception. The unfurling of four Tibetan flags, and accompanying free Tibet chant, were provocations manager Sun Jihai could not ignore. Instead, the demonstration, as well as future game plans, became the topic of debate on talk shows in Germany, Asia, and with football fans worldwide. How we got to this point is an intriguing story. What Is The Harm Of A The After Math of a Raised Hand What is the harm of a little physical reinforcement to ensure children know how to properly act in society? This idea of physical reinforcement is also known as corporal punishment and is still present today in southern American states including some Texas school systems. Corporal Punishment is defined as a punishment of a physical nature, such as caning, flogging, or beating however this fails to include the psychological implications of corporal punishment in schools (corporal punishment). The conditions to model this violent behavior includes attention, retention, reproduction, and motivation which can be interpreted as the attention to the fact that violence is an adult s response causes a child to model the behavior of the adults around them resulting in more violence (Bandura). Subconsciously most adults tend to believe that the easiest way to deal with a disobedient child or person is to physically harm. This answer of violence more times than not stems from the anger a student caused in doing wrong. Justification for corporal punishment originates from the past and is often the defense of pro corporal punishment advocates. Physical punishment can be traced back to ancient times exemplified in Egypt, concerning the slaves that built the pyramids, these deep roots of physical punishment are often referred to as a form of proof that it works. To use Egyptian violence as an example is pushing the envelope of what corporal punishment is today, however the reaction to that punishment is similar because human nature is present in both time periods. But how are life expectancies affected on a national level? While these factors are central to living longer, they alone cannot be the only facets. • 13. Metaphor and Imagery in Galway Kinnell s Poem, Blackberry... The Use of Metaphor and Imagery in Galway Kinnell s Poem, Blackberry Eating Written in 1980, Galway Kinnell s Blackberry Eating is a poem which creates a strong metaphoric relationship between the tangible objects of blackberries, and the intangible objects of words. The speaker of the poem feels a strong attraction to the sensory characteristics (the touch, taste, and look) of blackberries. The attraction he feels at the beginning of the poem exclusively for blackberries is paralleled in the end by his appetite and attraction to words. The rush the speaker gets out of blackberry eating is paralleled to the enjoyment he finds in thinking about certain words; words which call up the same sensory images the blackberries embody. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The third line states the speaker s purpose. He is going out to eat the blackberries for breakfast. This line shows that the speaker not only has an attraction to the berries aesthetic qualities but also craves them to satiate his appetite. The speaker s appetite for the berries is later paralleled to his appetite for words. In the next line, the speaker describes the stalks of the blackberry bushes as very prickly. This is the first negative image used in association with the blackberries. All the previous images have been positive characteristics of blackberries fat, overripe, icy, and black. Perhaps, this negative image of the prickly stalks is being used to show that along with pleasure invariably comes pain in the natural world. This same idea used in the context of the words suggests the two fold potential of words to both benefit and harm. In the next line, the prickly stalks are attributed as a penalty that they [blackberry bushes] earn for knowing the black art. This imagery of the flowering of the bushes being a black art lends a magical, bewitching quality to the blackberries, an idea that there is something wickedly tempting about the berries. In connecting this idea to the word metaphor, it shows that the ability to tempt and persuade with words can also be a form of black art. • 14. The Impact Of Immigration On The United States In the late 19th century the United States experienced a wave of immigrants looking for work and/or escaping worsening conditions in their home countries. These immigrants, predominantly received through Ellis Island on the East Coast, would settle down in larger urbanized cities such as New York and Chicago. This was partially due to the amount of available jobs and housing, but also because of the appeal of staying close to other families from their homeland. By gathering in these communities they were able to keep their traditions alive through things such as native language and religion. However, since many of the immigrants were low income households, the communities were largely forced to live in poverty level housing and provided with almost no social services by the federal government. It was this need for welfare that enabled political urban machines to rise in power. By providing support such as jobs and services to impoverished immigrant communities, these organizations thrived off of the loyalty, and therefore votes, that they received in return. Historical Background Although the amount of people living in cities had vastly increased since the late 18th century, the representation for cities in state legislature and congress did not increase to reflect this change in dynamic. By 1870, 44% of New York City s population was made up of immigrants, while San Francisco s was at 49% (Donovan). With this increase in population came the need for an increase in social ... Given the demand for petroleum products such as gasoline, understanding why Crude oil prices have skyrocketed in recent years, is not hard. According to the article Ending America s Oil Addiction, the surge in crude oil prices can be reduced in large part to the simple concepts of supply and demand. However, given that an acceptable substitute for gasoline does not exist, consumers are unable to cutback on the amount of gasoline being consumed. The article suggests that some reasons for consumers inability or unwillingness to cutback on the consumption of gasoline are long commutes, the use of vehicles which are not fuel efficient and a lack of alternative solutions such as carpooling and public transit options. The law of supply also suggests that if a firm cuts back on the amount of a good being supplied, the cost of cutting back outweighs the cost of continuing the supply. The Law of Demand The examination of the correlation between the price of a good and the law of demand is necessary to predict how market forces react to a reduced supply of goods. Dictionary.com defines price as the sum or amount of money or its equivalent for which anything is bought, sold, or offered for sale. (para. 2) Price is an essential ingredient of the law of demand. The law of demand is quantity demanded decreases as price increases, all other things being constant (Colander, 2004, p. 188) The substitution of alternate goods accounts for the law of demand. As the price of goods such as gasoline increases, people tend to replace it with similar goods which may have a lower price. If a good has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I m originally from that part of Spain and I have spent all my life there before I came to the United States, so this is very important to me and it affects my life in every possible aspect. Catalonia and Spain have been not really liking each other for about 300 years now because of some war events that happened in 1714. But that feeling increased in the 1800s 1900s when a new ideological and political movement called Catalan nationalism started to appear. That movement said that Catalonia is a nation and it stands out the own values of its historical personality (traditions, culture and language). This belief was in a lot of people s minds, but it started to increase about 10 years ago when both Spanish and Catalonian government had a fight about some laws. Since that, we could say that the Independence has started (we call it like that). Because of this, constant manifestations and protests have been usual in Catalonia (and usually this acts include people with posters and pictures insulting Spain and sometimes also burning and breaking Spanish flags or photos of the King with the Royal Family, etc.) A lot of everyday normal things have changed too. For example, if you speak Spanish in Catalonia, some people might insult you saying you are fascist (Their argument is that in Catalonia you should speak Catalan and not ... While different facilities have their own advantages on different research with wide ranges of temperature, pressure and residence time, every single research on various facilities is necessary to depict the whole hydrocarbon oxidation mechanism of JP 8 surrogates. In this chapter, a brief review of each of these facilities is described below 2.2.1 Pressure Flow Reactor In the pressure flow reactor (PFR) method, premixed hydrocarbon/oxidizer gases continuously flow into the reactor and the products continuously flow out the reactor to investigate the effects of pressure, temperature and residence ... The oxidation of n dodecane in the low and intermediate temperature regime can produce broad array of hydrocarbons species. The identified species indicates significant insight into the oxidation mechanism. Compared the experimental results to a lumped model by Ranzi and Faravelli (Agosta et al., 2004), the experimental results suggest several changes to the mechanism that could improve its accuracy. Firstly, the experiment results suggest that a C6 radical species should replace the current C7 radicals. Secondly, the very low carbon balance suggests that C12 oxygenates are likely formed although the mechanism assumes that no conjugate alkenes of n dodecane are formed. Lenhert also conducted experiment of mixture of n dodecane and selected hydrocarbon, which is compared to the same lumped mode. Other than this, some kinds of JP 8 surrogates are investigated in this research and illustrates that a relatively simple surrogates mixture is adequate to mimic the complex behavior of JP 8. Farid (2005) conducted experiment of 2,7 dimethyl octane (2,7 DMO), a lightly branched isomer of decane, in Drexel PFR facility, to investigate the low temperature combustion. To fully understand whether the election is fair to the average American citizen, these four things need to be looked at and understood; the Democratic and Republican platforms and who the reader agrees with, the procedure and requirements for getting on the ballot to be elected into the House of Representatives, the many different parties of the United States, and the requirements and procedures for running for president. After each of these questions are acknowledged, it can be easily inferred that the current election system that is in place, is fair to American citizens. When analyzing the differences between the platforms of the Democrats and Republicans, there are six key issues that differ: wages, education, foreign policy, gun laws, health care, and the size of government. He never back down to any person or thing and has never run any from a fight. He throws his self at danger to try to get rid of evil and look for people to help. In this day of age, I don t think he would be a good hero for a few reasons. Reason number one I think he is really too arrogant to throw his self at ever one problem thinking he is going to fix it. I personally think a hero should be asking them if they want your help before they make it worst. Or they can wait till they see someone in danger then throw yourself in the middle. Reason two I think he s arrogant will be the death of him because he think so mighty of his self. He will think he is unstoppable and that s where his demise will come from. Some say that great coded laws and reforms make for the most successful empire. Some may say that a great government defines success. But the Byzantine Empire under Justinian Rule showed us that in order to achieve the most success, all of these factors were needed. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first reason why Justinian caused the Byzantine empire to succeed during his reign was because of his new coded system of laws. Justinian inherited a vast amount of Roman laws, called the twelve tables. (Allen Evans 24, Commire). In 528, Justinian set up a commission to codify the Roman law (Ostrogorski 74). 1528 books of Roman law were scanned and combined into fifty books divided into 432 chapters (Allen Evans 24). The work was called the Digest, and had immediate impacts on the Byzantine Empire and then it s long success (Allen Evans 24, Commire). Lawyers were able reference the laws in court, allowing fairer decisions to be made. The government, now was not only supported by its army, was also supported by the law (Allen Evans 24, Commire). Both of these things were very important to the success of the empire. Civilians had the ability to go to court and make sure that decisions were based on hundreds of years of law written out in one place, and not an impulsive decision of a judge. The government also had an extreme benefit in terms of having written out code of law, so there could be no arguments in terms of taxation or punishments. This attributed to the success of the empire because this helped stabilize the empire because important decisions could have been made based on hundreds of years of law and farer decisions prevented revolts. Qualitative Methodology The research question of this study concerns how the luxury hotel industry can adapt to Chinese conceptualizations and consumer behavior. At the turn of the 19th century England believed that Ireland had too much independence and made the Act of Union. Whether events, people and things were real or not became debatable However flip and casual his observations may have been, their credence (in this light) cannot be denied. • 37. Modern Judaism And Traditional Judaism Essay There are a fair amount of differences between modern and traditional Judaism. As this is the case it is only natural that many well known people in all walks of life can be considered modern Jews. This distinction is very important because as more famous people practice a more modern Jewish culture and lifestyle, more of the younger generations of the world quickly follow suit. Not only is modern Judaism accommodating towards modern scholarship, science, culture and a general modernity of the world, it goes as far as even welcoming it. This is because modern Judaism takes a fairly inclusive stance towards all that modern society has to offer and provide. (Waxman, 1993) In modern Judaism, interaction with different culture and knowledge is encouraged, not for the sake of facilitating the Torah as it is in the traditional Judaism but for the sake of the person, as this outside knowledge is seen to be part of a larger truth. (Elias, 1960) With these general distinctions between traditional and modern Judaism, it is easy to find examples of people in popular culture who fit into the classification. One person who could be argued to be a good example of a modern Jew someone who takes part in life outside of Jewish culture and welcomes with open arms modernity is Woody Allen. As an 80 year old man, Allen has had to struggle with the shift from traditional to modern Judaism and create a mixture (or lack thereof) that works for him. A similar scheme is already in place in the City of London, Cemetery Crematorium, where more than 1,500 graves have been reused. The 161 year old cemetery was on the verge of running out of space when officials decided to begin reusing graves in 2009. It has proven to be a popular choice, with over 60 per cent of burials there now in reused graves. Trevor Davis, Westminster cemeteries manager, believes the most effective way to stop cemeteries from overflowing is by reusing graves. Divine powers moira in Iliad and God in Genesis drove the actions of Andromache and Rebekah, who in turn influenced action in their respective stories (Rothleder discussion). Andromache s influence was largely due to the way she interacted with her husband Hector, who was a great warrior on the side of the Trojans in the Trojan war (Il. p. 500). Similarly, in Genesis, Rebekah s abilities to control domestic resources brought blessings to her younger son, even though he was less favored by his father (Gen 25:28; Gen 27:14 29). So, while these two women were very different, they also shared many commonalities and they both performed actions that helped the greater power in their respective texts to carry out a plan that did not necessarily fit into the plan the humans had in mind.
