Essay on Leadership (Jack Welch)
I have learned many lessons from Jack Welch on leadership. Jack Welch has been with the General
Electric Company (GE) since 1960. Having taken over GE with a market capitalization of about $12
billion, Jack Welch turned it into one of the largest and most admired companies in the world by the
time he stepped down as its CEO 20 years later, in 2000. Jack Welch used his uncanny instincts and
unique leadership strategies to run GE, the most complex organization in the world and increased its
market value by more than $400 billion over two decades. He remains a highly regarded figure in
business circles due to his innovative leadership style. Jack Welch demonstrated Kouzes and Posner s
five practices of modeling the way, inspiring a shared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jack Welch s vision of what GE was possible of gave the company a vision for twenty years while he
was the CEO and chairman. He states, leaders make sure people not only see the vision, they live and
breathe it. (Winning, pg 67) He not only allowed for employees to stretch, but demanded it. In
teaching workers to stretch Welch knew that workers may fail. In fact, they probably will fail. But
stretching, and stretching the business, is going to improve performance results. (Jack Welch on
Leadership, pg 105) He also states that only by setting the performance bar high did it become
possible to discover people s capabilities. Jack Welch s emphasis on candor and breaking the
bureaucracy of modern business separated him from his contemporaries. He excited others of the
possibility of being the biggest and best company in the world and rewarding his best employees that
shared the values of GE. According to FORTUNE Editorial Director Geoffrey Colvin In The Ultimate
Manager, Welch leads the annals of management history not for anticipating the new world s changes
ahead, but for acting on them: His great achievement is that having seen it, he faced up to the huge,
painful changes it demanded, and made them faster and more emphatically than anyone else in
business. He led managers into this new world, which we still inhabit, and just as important, he
showed business

Comparing Jocasta In The Odyssey And Oedipus
Most seems to enjoy tight casting female characters through two tropes: either the damsel in distress
waiting for her knight in shining armor to save her, or a tough, power indulged witch who s only
concern is herself. Very few times (and by even fewer male authors) will a female character be written
as a medium between the two extremes. This problem has been occurring for centuries almost, even
being found in literature dating back to B.C., with Penelope from Homer s The Odyssey and Jocasta
from Sophocles Oedipus Rex : Penelope being written as the damsel with hundreds of suitors vying
for her attention, all while desperately weaving and waiting day in and day out for her true love to
come home; Jocasta as this harsh women who only wants to be around when everything is working to
her advantage. Then there s Antigone, who stands up for her morals against Thebes without so much
as batting an eye. The Odyssey tells the story of Odysseus, ruler of Ithaca who has been lost out at sea
for the past 20 years after the Trojan war. At home waiting is his son Telemachus and his wife
Penelope. Unsurprisingly Telemachus with the help of Athene ... Show more content on

At first glance, it was exciting to see a woman dominate that severely in a man s world; but much like
Lady Macbeth, all Jocasta had were her tough edges and a hunger for whatever power her family
could get. When Oedipus presented her with the soothsayer s report about how he killed his father and
will inevitably bed his mother keep in mind, Jocasta knew this was all true she put so much effort into
making Oedipus believe that this wasn t true and that it was impossible (Sophocles 38). Later on when
Oedipus found out Jocasta was his own mother, Jocasta later killed herself before she had to face
responsibility for her actions to more than just Oedipus and his men. (Sophocles

The Life Of Jacqueline Jones Introduced Slavery And...
Jacqueline Jones introduced slavery and evolution from the perspectives of black and white men and
women from the 1830s to the late 1980s, and stressed the importance of studies on black women in the
working and domestic forces throughout history. The novel focused on the historic forces of labor
patterns that black women in communities, at home, in the paid labor forces, and on antebellum
plantations, have developed over time.
There was a heavy amount of contextual evidence demonstrated throughout this book, what with the
minute print and informative words given. The perspectives of the South and the North were infused
with the perspectives of people today, and how discrimination has been implemented throughout our
society both then and now. With the intent to introduce readers to individual African American
working women [Preface, xv], she elicits such feelings and highlights the real struggle of those
African Americans that were confirmed and transformed by giving examples from historical events
such as The Great Depression, the American Revolution, Labor movements and reforms in both the
North and the South.
Labor of Love states that a majority of a black woman s work was molded by her family obligations,
yet were vitally diverse from such experienced by white people, regardless of social class and wealth.
The updated version reviews such advances and others in the labors and family lives of African
American women with a more critical perspective and understanding.

Robert Wilson s Influence On Theatre
Introduction
The art form of theatre can be traced far back several centuries, with its origin not properly identified.
We can find many different styles of it in civilizations from the Ancient Greeks, Ancient Romans,
Ancient Chinese and more. It has developed through many styles in order to become what we see on
stage today. As new technologies began to emerge in the late 20th century, lights, sound and
visualization became increasingly important to theatre. More theatre creators began seeing them as not
additional accessories, but a whole concept just as important as dialogue and movement. The use of
technology has become such a value in theatre that companies such as the Production Resource Group
have emerged in order to provide live productions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He attended university in his home state of Texas, before studying at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn,
New York. Despite training in America, much of his career has been made in Europe. He started
getting involved with the performing arts as a child by learning from dance instructor Byrd Hoffman.
Wilson says that she never taught technique, she never gave [him] a way to approach it, it was more
that [he] discovered it on [his] own . We can see this in his work, as he s against the traditional trend
of naturalism, saying naturalism is not interesting because it kills the mystery ... I like to use my
imagination. Inspired by Hoffman s teaching of knowledge of the body, Wilson named his group of
experimental theatre creators and performers the Byrd Hoffman School of Byrds early in his career.
Although this group dissolved in the mid 1970s, today there is The Watermill Centre also set up by
Wilson where students can train and create experimental theatre. Wilson is now best known for his use
of lighting and visual aesthetics to serve dramatic and narrative purpose through colour, where not one
production goes by without Wilson dismembering the body ... with light. Rather than making the
production realistic for the audience, Wilson uses lighting to define the

The Delivery Service For The United States
shipping fleet. This delivery method allows Amazon more control by no longer having to depend on
the U.S. Postal Service, UPS, or FedEx. This on demand delivery service allows independent couriers
to deliver packages faster. Amazon first established this method of delivery to offer faster deliveries to
Prime members. However, it is now offering drivers the opportunity to deliver standard packets as
well. Amazon s shipping segment has a strategic position of low cost and a niche market, which aligns
perfectly with what Flex drivers offer the company.
The potential to reduce delivery times as well as cut costs is highly likely by expanding the use of own
cargo planes and Flex drivers nationwide and internationally. As of December of 2016, Amazon is
operating a total of 346 global distribution infrastructures, 201 of which are located in the U.S., and 37
facilities in the making. If cargo planes could deliver to these locations and if a Flex driver delivery
system is offered directly from each of these facilities, no new distribution centers would be required.
Expedited delivery services could be offered within the cities that already have established Amazon
infrastructures. Since no new facilities are required, a combination of Prime Air and the Flex driver
delivery system could be expanded in a short period of time both national and internationally.

Essay about Understanding the Marshal Plan
The date is September 2nd, 1945, the year in which The Empire of Japan surrendered thus ending a
war in which fifty to seventy million people died, that being World War II. But the surrender of Japan
not only meant the ending of the worst war in human history, it also meant the beginning of a new
type of war, a war of deterrence in which two new superpowers, The United States of America and
The Soviet Union would partake in. This new type of war, The Cold War, would test how strong the
ideological stances of these two nations could withstand each other. It would also test how each of
these nations could persuade other countries to follow their ideals. The United States believed in the
ideals of capitalism. A system of government that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If these countries were to all fall into the system of capitalism and under the influence of America,
then the Soviets would lose their ability to have a centrally planned economy with other blocs, it
would also mean that America and it s ideals would spread across Europe leaving little to no chance
for Stalin and the Soviet Union to assert themselves as a true superpower with allies to back them up.
But how would these countries accomplish their goals of advancing their ideals, capitalism and
communism, into Europe? For the United States, this would be attained through the implementation of
the Marshall Plan in April of 1948. (Lapsansky Werner, 2011, 402).
But to understand the Marshall Plan, one must first examine the Truman Doctrine, which experts and
historians have regarded as the basis for the Marshall Plan. Since 1944, the British government had
been providing economic as well as military aid to Greece and Turkey to prevent a left wing
insurgency by communists. Aid such as this was also provided to prevent the Soviet Union from
expanding its Iron Curtain into Greece and Turkey. Unfortunately for Britain, the ravages of World
War II prevented them to continue to support Greece and Turkey (Herring, 2008, 614). So when
Britain informed the U.S. State Department that it could no longer offer aid to Greece and Turkey, the
United States did not hesitate to act. That is because there was fear

The Crime Of Organized Crime
When I hear the term organized crime, I associate it with The Mafia , Scarface , and Cartels .
Organized crime can be defined in a variety of ways. It is an ongoing criminal enterprise that is wisely
working to generate profit engaging in illegal activities depending on demand, where its presence is
preserve through force, intimidations, and corruption. According to the FBI, organized crime is
basically a group of transnational, national, or local alliances of highly centralized enterprises run by
crooks who make illicit profit or money through illegal and often violent activities (Abadinsky, 1981,
p. 2).
The Task Force on Organized crime states that, the core of organized crime activity is the supplying of
illegal goods and services gambling, loan sharking, narcotics and other forms of vice to countless
numbers of citizen customers (Abadinsky, 1981, p. 267). However, the business of organized
frequently consists of activities that are neither services nor goods, instead they are undoubtedly
scrounging. The connection among illicit business and organized crime can take one of three
following forms: first we have the parasitic form, where associates of a criminal organization extract
money from illegal businesspersons by intimidating them with violence (Abadinsky, 1981, p. 267).
The second from is reciprocal: members of a criminal organization require genuine or illegal
entrepreneurs to pay a secure or percentage sum, then in return they deliver services like limiting

The Swag Contests
The things that I thought worked for the program was that the kids were all welcomed with open arms
and enthusiasm, which helped them to feel comfortable and excited about the activities of the day.
They were able to arrive and have something to eat before starting the day. The opening ceremonies
each morning gave structure and allowed the students to know what they could expect during the day.
The reflection time allowed the kids to have quiet time or time to burn off their excess energy by
playing basketball or football out in the grass areas. I think the guys truly enjoyed the time playing
sport and could see that college life can include both academic and recreational activities. It was nice
to display both arenas to them. The swag contests

Analysis Of Revolutionary Mothers
Revolutionary Mothers Revolutionary Mothers: Women in the Struggle for America s Independence.
By Carol Berkin. 2005. P. 194. As we study the Revolutionary War we tend to think of the men that

the women s side of the war and what they did during this troubling time. Carol Berkin shows us what

The writing of Revolutionary Mothers requires many sources to help emphasize the importance of its
content, and Carol Berkin did just that. When reading Revolutionary Mothers you begin to see quotes
and references from many sources included in each chapter. The sources that Carol Berkin used to
write the book include journals, diaries, articles and newspapers, letters, and other books. These
sources are about both women in during the colonial and Revolutionary times and the Revolutionary
war in general. Carol Berkin did an exquisite job researching for her book, often citing at least twelve
reliable sources for each chapter. Though she used many sources for writing her book, she did not use
very many maps or pictures. She placed an illustration, depicting each topic, at the beginning of every
chapter, with no maps, pictures, or other illustrations. Although she used few pictures or maps, she
captured the reader s imagination by her depictive descriptions making her book seem to be a short
historical fiction novel telling the journeys that different women took in the Revolutionary War era,
making it unnecessary to use abundance of pictures, maps, or illustrations. Carol Berkin s experience
of writing and knowledge of history show through writing in Revolutionary Mothers. Berkin has been

Good vs Bad in a tale of two cities Essay
Good vs. Bad In the novel, A Tale of Two Cities Charles Dickens opens with an anaphora, about how
the world is throughout the novel. A reoccurring theme throughout this story is the battle between
good and evil. Most of the novel is about the struggles each force has and how most of the time good
triumphs over evil. In A Tale of Two Cities, the triumph of love, the death of the Marquis, and the
contrast between Sydney Carton and Charles Darnay shows how good triumphed over evil.
Throughout the novel, the power of love triumphed over evil. When Miss Pross fights Madame
Defarge to protect Lucie it shows Miss Pross s love towards Lucie. Miss Pross is like a mother to

like the child s life meant nothing and threw the father a few coins and kept going. The cruelty and
evil he delivered would die with him, and for the good of the people in the town his death was an
example how good triumphed over evil. Lastly, good did triumph over evil in Sydney Carton. Sydney
Carton is a drunk who hates Darnay because if Carton was not a drunk he would have everything
Darnay has, like the love of Lucie Manette. Carton is seen as the darkness because of the disparity he

being sad and dark. His selfless act proved that the bad Sydney Carton has saved Darnay and kept
Lucie, Cartons love, happy.

Essay on The Bloody Chamber
The role of women in the gothic genre is as victims always subjected to male authority , compare and
contrast to which this interpretation is relevant to your three chosen texts. By Kristina Addis Within
My Last Duchess, The Bloody Chamber and Dracula, there is evidence to suggest that women within
the gothic genre as portrayed as victims of male authority, as well as evidence to disprove this
argument, instead suggesting that it is the women within the Gothic genre which makes themselves
victims. Angela Carter is particularly interested in the portrayal of women as victims of male

At this point she simply finds no other way but to accept the stereotypical view of a young innocent
girl in a relationship with an experienced man, another example of women being victims of male
authority. The key to the bloody chamber is the key to her selfhood and subjugation that will
ultimately kill her. The protagonist s husband clearly considers her an object of exchange and plans to
inscribe upon her his continuing tale of punishment for wives disobedience [viii] again showing how
women make themselves victims of their own behaviour, Helen Simpson s interpretation is that I
really cant see what s wrong with finding out about what the great male fantasies about women are
[ix] The heroine fights against the victimisation, and indeed reverses role with the male in the story, as
it is Marquis who dies and it is the female who leaves this chamber and finds happiness. The Snow
Child, another short story within The Bloody Chamber, is ambiguous. In this small story there are two
victims, both of them women, in this case the bloody chamber could relate to the hole in the snow that
the countess and count ride past, or it could relate to the vagina and virginity of the girl. This
expresses how the role of the women within the gothic genre is ultimately as victims, sometimes
through their naivety and innocence and sometimes through male authority. The count sees both of the
bloody chambers present as objects for his pleasure, therefore

Mountain Mountains On The Planet
Mountain climbing in Alaska When I hear a person talk about the great state of Alaska, I wonder what
he or she would say about it. Is it the endless mountain ranges covered with snow, or could it be the
frigid temperatures? The state of Alaska has mountains as far as the eye can see. If you have ever
climbed to the top of a mountain, you know how exciting it can be once you have reached the top.
Especially, when it is your first experience climbing the face of any mountain and you do not know
what to expect. As a child, my memory recalls the first time I was pretending to scale towering
mountain sides to impress my friends and family. When we are children, the world appears a lot larger,
and the mountain tops in my back yard in southern California seemed colossal to me. Playing in the
foothills, I would try to imagine myself scaling one of the greatest mountains on the planet. Nearly
twenty five years have come to pass, and I still seek mountain ranges to explore. I have always
enjoyed the outdoors, rather than being indoors all the time. Mountain climbing is rewarding and
exhausting simultaneously. I like to find new places out in the wilderness. One of my favorite
moments is when I find a waterfall; something about the sounds of flowing water soothes my soul. At
the beginning of 2010, I received a call from the engineering firm I worked for; they informed me of a
unique project for the oil and gas industry located near Fairbanks, Alaska. I gladly accepted the

Neutral Tones By Thomas Hardy
Neutral Tones, a poem written by Thomas Hardy, is composed of four stanzas with each stanza
consisting of four lines. The first and fourth line of each stanza rhyme, while the second and third line
of each stanza rhyme. Each line is short enough to be spoken with a single breath, and the last line of
each stanza is slightly indented. Both the tone and diction throughout the poem is consistently
depressing. The theme of Neutral Tones is that love is not always what one would expect it to be. The
theme is expressed as the speaker reflects upon a past relationship that did not end smoothly.
The gloomy mood of the poem is immediately set in the first stanza. The opening sentence, We stood
by a pond that winter day, provides details regarding the setting (1). The verb tense informs the reader
that the speaker is reminiscing on a day that has happened in the past. Using the word that clues the
reader in that the day being reflected upon was one of great importance to the speaker. Being that
winter has a negative connotation as the depressing season, the tone is further set by mentioning the
time of year; winter is lonely, frigid, and dormant. Using winter as the season sets the depressing tone
for love to die similarly to how the leaves mentioned in the poem are also dying (3). The third line, a
few leaves lay on the starving sod, showcases the death of the leaves which otherwise would be an
ordinary event if it did not enhance the mood. The use of personification

Dennis Ashwell s Life In Vietnam
It was the summer of Vietnam, The Grateful Dead, and free love. Nothing made sense, and the cultural

Overpopulation Is A Major Challenge That Humans Face Today
Overpopulation is a major challenge that humans face today. The human population is close to 8
billion, and at our current birthrate, we are adding nearly one billion more people every 12 years.
Issues such as dependence of natural resources, degradation of the environment, poverty, and
unemployment, are root causes of overpopulation. Though opponents of this theory, such as Erle C.
Ellis uses archeological records, and the history of human evolution to argue against overpopulation.
Robert Walker, on the other hand, disagrees. He uses scientific explanation to anticipate that all living

Many years later, they extracted nutrients from the species by cooking them, and used different woods
for enhanced hunting outcomes. Ellis points out that these innovations are still being used before since
the last ice age ended. So, if hunter gatherers were, therefore, successful worldwide at that time,
human innovation will adapt. Ellis further argues that, the planet s carrying capacity of hunter
gatherers was not any more than 100 million. Without their stone tools, he argues, the amount would
be a lot less. The creation of agriculture, eventually empowered a higher population growth, which
needed more land use. Although the population is much greater now, approximately 7.2 billion,
society has adapted with innovation. In contrast to a UN assessment, Ellis believes that a peak
population is sustainable if obligatory investments are finalizing in the substructure and conducive
trade, supplemented with anti scarceness and food security strategies. , For instance, Chinese
agriculture, shows that population growth will increase efficiency; this is because the relationship
between population and economic wealth displays an increase of productivity. As the population rises,
so does the productivity that matches the stock of food available, this is due to Anthropocene.

INTRODUCTION The Canterbury region is the second largest dairy producer in the country
(Statistics New Zealand, n.d.). Over the period of 2007 to 2012, the region has seen an increase of
60,000 hectares of irrigated farm land (Hills, 2013) due to the conversion of beef, sheep and crop
farms to water intensive dairy farming. There has also been an increase of 58% in the number of dairy
farms and a 31% increase in the average herd size of dairy farms (Burns, 2013). For maximum
production, sufficient irrigation is required for dairy farms (Food and Agriculture Organization of the
United Nations, 2000). Therefore dairying requires at least ten times more water than other farming
practices (Ward McKague, 2007). Over the summer months of December, January and February, this
irrigation increase would represent a decrease in the amount of stressed vegetation in the study area.
The study area is a 30km2 section of the Canterbury Plains, situated between the Waimakariri and
Rakaia Rivers (Figure 2), to the west of Christchurch City. It falls within Path 74, Row 90 of Landsat s
reference system. The area encompasses a variety of land use

Internal And External Locus Of Control
In the context of locus of control, internal and external locus of control are two characteristics that
influence students success and failure. Those characteristics have been explained by some experts and
there are some comparisons which have been done related to the aspects of internal and external locus
of control. Obviously, there is no specific hypothesis related to aspects of locus of control, but Burger
(1983:76) categorizes three factors as the aspects of locus of control: perception of internal control,
perception of controlled by powerful others, and perception of chance. However, Gihonsooly and
Sihirvan (2011:240) have summarized some researches about locus of control related on individuals
behavior in some aspects such as anxiety, academic procrastination and so on in table 5 below:
Those comparisons above represent the three aspects of locus of control; perception of internal
control, perception of LOC that is controlled by powerful others, and perception of chance, which can
be differentiated into 5 sub aspects such as ability, responsibility, change, environment and stress
(student s stress). Those sub aspects above will be the indicators of locus of control. ... Show more

Thus, it can be summarized that locus of control is divided into two main aspects namely internal
locus of control and external locus of control. Internal locus of control can be influenced by some

What Are The Major Problems California Has Faced Since 2000
What are the major problems California has faced since 2000? How have the governors and legislature
dealt with these problems? What does the future hold for California? Chapter 40 41 For the
generations California was called The Golden State, , until the Great Recession had arrived. In the
beginning of December 2007, the American economy began to enter the Great Recession . This time
period was the longest economic downturn and period of high unemployment since the Great
Depression of the 1930 s. The economic decline was incited by the banking crisis in which mortgages
were freely given out to the borrowers, who sometimes were people without any stable income or with
little or no money down on the loan. The financial institutions ... Show more content on

In response, government entities severely reduced their spending and began large scale cutting of
public sector jobs. These fiscal cuts and job losses added to the continuance of the Great Recession.
In addition to the Housing Bible hit, California also lost 952,800 jobs between July 2007 and July
2009. These losses erased the 846,000 jobs that the state had gained in the four year period between
July 2003 and July 2007. Particularly hard hit was the construction industry, in which the number of
jobs fell by almost 30 percent. By July 2009, California s rate of unemployment rate was at 11.9
percent. Another downside was that an estimated 1.4 million Californians were underemployed, many
working in low paying, part time jobs which lacked benefits such as healthcare. Many workers found
themselves working in positions in which they were overqualified and their skills were largely unused.
Although the federal government declared that the Great Recession had hit its low regression and the
hoped for economic recovery had begun in December 2009, California continued to suffer from the ill
effects of the financial blow.
During the recession period manufacturing, finance and real estate industries had experienced the
most and lost many workers. Even the workers, who were able to keep their jobs often found
themselves doing substantially more work for the same or lower pay. Often high tech video cameras

The Importance Of Pressure On High School Sports
Pressure and High School Sports seem to go hand in hand these days. Whether we like pressure or not,
it is difficult to avoid. We experience pressure because of standards that others expect us to
accomplish. While some people may do well under pressure, many of us do bad under pressure.
The Kimberly Girls Volleyball team will experience a lot of pressure as they head into the State
tournament this weekend. Expectations are very high for them because they have had a lot of success
so far this season. I talked to a girl who is currently on the varsity volleyball team that is going to
state. Payton is not a starter and doesn t get to see the court often but she is just as important as anyone
else on the team. She discussed with me some of the expectations that coaches and fans have for them.
Every game our coach always tells us not to be satisfied, and that s kinda our team moto. I definitely
think that s the expectation from our coaches is to not be satisfied with a win or how we played just to
always make it better. I believe the expectation from the fans is just to stay positive and work as hard
as we can.
With expectations high from the coaches and fans, this can add a lot of pressure and stress onto the
girls. As Payton said, I definitely think that s the expectation from our coaches it to not be satisfied
with a win or how we played just to always make it better, we can see how they are pressured to win
again because they can t be satisfied with winning one game. They have expectations to make it far in
their season because they are not satisfied after one game, they want to win more and be number one.
I also talked to a fan, Quinn Johnson, and asked what he thought the pressures were on the girls this
year. He replied with: I think this season the pressures are there own standards. Last years team was
not as good so other teams and fans did not expect so much out of them. But after we won the FVA
this year and got the #1 seed for the playoffs more pressure was added to the team coming into
playoffs. This helps to see from a fan perspective what they believe the pressures are and what they
expect the girls to accomplish this season.
As you can probably see, with the girls success this year they

Ballad Of Birmingham By Dudley Randall
In the 1960s racial discrimination, segregation, and race inspired violence was at its worst. Jim Crow
laws kept white and African American people separate in public, the Ku Klux, Klan forced African
Americans to fear for their lives every minute of every day, and absolutely nothing was happening to
change these injustices. African Americans participated in thousands of nonviolent boycotts, freedom
marches, and protests and nothing was ever changed until the morning of September 15, 1963. On that
morning, a bomb, made of dynamite, forever changed the lives of the citizens attending the 16th Street
Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Four young black girls died in the bombing, inspiring poet
Dudley Randall to write his powerful poem, Ballad of Birmingham. Through his poetry, Randall
influenced change in the Civil Rights movement, and by owning the largest printing press of the
1960s, played a huge role in the Black Arts Movement. Dudley Randall s ballad, Ballad of
Birmingham, expresses his feelings of helplessness and sorrow after the tragic and senseless 16th
Street Baptist Church bombing using irony, imagery, and tone to allow his readers to understand what
life was like for African Americans in America in the 1960s. Irony in Ballad of Birmingham is found
throughout the poem starting in the very beginning of the poem because one would expect the mother
to be the one to want to go to the freedom march, not a young girl. Also irony is present in the poem
when the

Essay on The Media Should NOT Define our Self-Image
Do we choose to define ourselves? Everyday we turn on the television; we are subjected to
advertisements about what we are supposed to be, what we are supposed to wear, and even what we
are supposed to drive. Ultimately we choose the vehicles we drive, but the media has a huge influence
on us. Three television advertisements reveal the vehicles women and men are believed to drive. The
Honda Odyssey is shown in advertisements with a woman driving around kids to their daily functions.
The Ford F150 and the Chevy Silverado are shown with men four wheeling through the hills.
Advertisements tell us what roles we are supposed to play in society. In reality men and women s roles
in society have greatly changed from the past, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Media shapes the world we live in, through advertisements. Most women are working mothers today.
It is a frequent occurrence for a man to help out with daily chores; cooking dinner, cleaning, and
watching the children after school. Yet, many advertisements still depict women taking care of the
children, cleaning house and cooking dinner for the family. Many dads are picking their children from
school, taking them to sports practice, and picking them up afterwards. The van commercial shows a
working mom, but she is still in charge of being the family taxi. The truck commercial shows the dad,
taking his stress out on the road. While mom is hauling the kids around dad is out having fun off
roading in the hills.
Everyday we are defined by the media. Vehicle companies are not the only ones guilty of shaping
society. There are several. American s are getting larger and still models are getting thinner everyday.
Everyone on television has the perfect skin, the perfect hair, and the perfect body, or so it seems to the
viewing audience. The aerodynamic shape of the new van represents a woman s curves and the sleek
outside her smooth, delicate skin. On the other hand the truck is portrayed as indestructible, tough, and
emotionless; like a man should be. Your vehicle isn t just a means of transportation, but an

Zachariah And Elizabeth s Role In The Bible
Elizabeth was the spouse of Zachariah, the mother of John the Baptist and a relative of Mary the
mother of Jesus. Elizabeth s name signifies God is my pledge or my God is my fortune . The inability
to bear a child is a typical topic in the Bible. In old times, infertility was viewed as a disfavor. In any
case, on numerous occasions, we see these ladies having extraordinary confidence in God, and God
rewards them with a youngster. Elizabeth was such a lady. Both she and her significant other
Zechariah were old, she past child bearing years, yet she imagined through the beauty of God. The
holy messenger Gabriel told Zechariah the news in the sanctuary, then made him quiet since he didn t

Juvenile Court Systems And The Adult Court System
Through the court systems in the United States there is a major distribution of probation between the
juvenile court system and the adult court system. More than 70,000 juveniles were incarcerated in
youth prisons or detention in 2010. Case studies show that more than 500,000 juveniles are taken to
confinement centers every year. Not including the juveniles who by pass the detention center and
make their way into the adult court system where they are later tried. Juveniles stand out of any prison
that they may be asserted to because most acts are created by those younger than the age of 18 those
juveniles are allowed to be trialed under the administration of the juvenile court until age 21. Prison is
not a place most juveniles while be able to with stand. So the juvenile judges process a variety of
different legal options to incorporate both the safety needs of the juvenile while also dealing with the
well being of the community and the rehabilitant needs of the juvenile. In some cases, the state will
even pay jails to not allow juveniles to be accepted into their facilities. Juveniles are adequately still
labeled as children no matter how grown they may think of themselves as. The mind of a person does
not mature appropriately until that person reaches their premature twenties. An Arkansas study
documented that juveniles who were formerly imprisoned for a crime were about 15 time more likely
to constrain another crime. Probation has been a more efficient route when dealing

Chemistry Concepts That Are Present During The Process Of...
Introduction
Rust, also known as iron (II) oxide, occurs when iron is exposed to oxygen and moisture for a long
period of time. This reaction is called oxidation. Oxidation can occur on old cars, iron, exhaust and
even the burning of fossil fuels. When wood, natural gas, or coal burns, the oxygen in the air
combines with the carbon and hydrogen in the fuel to produce water and the oxides of carbon.
(Prentice Hall Chemistry The Study of Matter p.599.) Rust may seem like an average everyday
phenomenon, however many things we cannot see take place as the rust begins to form. Many
everyday exposures such as water or hot temperature can cause rust to form. The purpose of this paper
is to relate chemistry concepts that are present during the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite its destructive characteristics it can be stopped by acids or bases that will dissolve the rust off,
but if you leave any bare iron outside exposed to heat and water rust will occur without doubt. After
the rusting process has occurred iron can either lose its magnetic ability or weaken it. ( Rate of Rust
Formation , van.physics.illinois)
SC2 Molar mass of Rust and indicators of chemical properties.
The molar mass of rust is 159.69 g*mol−1 . The chemical formula is Fe2O3. Chemical properties in
rust are indicated by the change of color, smell, and production of a solid. Rust as a solid can appear
on many household items such as cars, bikes, and tools. Basically, anything left outside can get rained
on, and the rain will leave the item wet, and overtime rust will appear. Rust has a brown red orange
color. Rust has a smell similar to blood. 4Fe+3O2+6H20 → 4Fe(OH)3 is the formula for the rusting of
iron. So basically, do not leave items that you care for outside where they can get rained on because
the rust will ruin it.

Mary Anne Warren Analysis
Mary Anne Warren argues in the position that abortion is morally permissible because the fetus is not
a person therefore has no rights and not considered immoral to be killed. I shall argue that Warren s
argument in invalid since the claims of argument cannot be proven. The general argument made from
Warren is (1) If a person, they have the right to life, (2) The fetus is not considered a person, and (3)
Therefore, since the fetus is not a person they do not have a right to life. Also, (4) A human being
needs all the morals of personhood to be considered a person, (5) An infant does not have morals, and
(6) Therefore, an infant is not a person because the do not have the morals to be considered a person.
From the time that Warren s article. On the Moral and Legal Status of Abortion , was published she
had gotten critiques that her argument appears to justify not only abortion, but infanticide as well.
(Warren, 16) Warren claims that if her argument is valid then infanticide is not a form of murder, since
you are not killing a person. A human being is a person if they have the previous characteristics of
personhood introduced into her argument. According to Warren ... Show more content on

Her argument does not specify if the same reasoning can be applied to fetuses. Not specifying which
certain traits are needed to be classified as a person opens up questions for critics saying that it is not
wrong for infanticide because an infant is not more of a person than a fetus according to her
arguments. Although her response about this is that infanticide is not just because it deprives the
infants from people that care about them and can find happiness along their side. A person might want
to raise these infants and the reason why they should be put into orphanages. In the end Warren s
argument is contradicting that infanticide is morally wrong because it deprives form having

Examples Of Divine Law In Antigone
The emergence of world literature from antiquity to modern times is mostly dominated by the
instrument of divine law, and therefore expresses an in depth understanding of the various kinds of
intellectual, historical, social and cultural backgrounds that are relevant across Europe, Asia, Africa,
North and South America. At the turn of the 4th century BC, Divine law is derived as any law that
theoretically comes directly from the will of God in comparison to man made law. The perception of
natural law, is distinctly independent of human beings, whereas divine law is based on the notion that
rely on human narrators and more closely related to various cultures. Thus, divine laws are

Antigone is who were urged to follow the laws of the god. The main protagonist Creon, who is the
new king, who believes that divine law is what is the most important aspect of the culture, it s people,
and what they should abide by. Creon says that they should obey the orders of divine law, which are of
the former king Oedipus, and that man made law is evil. Thus, Creon s beliefs are a strong paradox of
the fact that he is a mortal king, who is demonstrative of man v. god, and thus the author creates Creon
s character in such a way the he is a mortal man who believes in divine law, not man made law. This is
very effective in bringing the story to the reader to fully emphasize that divine law is based on a
verisimilitude of god s will. Antigone is the female protagonist who follows the government or state
laws, and is a firm believer that dive law is unwritten and unfailing. There is a distinction between the
fact that Creon and Antigone appear as god and woman, against god and man, to understand the richly
held beliefs that were relevant in those times, and that the people of ancient greece wanted to follow
the laws of the gods that they saw fitting to the land and the people. Mostly, they believed that divine
law was the only answer, and the one true way to live their lives through everything they do. Then
there were those that believed that the will of the gods was not divine law, and that natural law was the
best way to live, more

Hurricane Katrina pounded the Gulf Coast with tremendous force at daybreak, August 29, 2005,
severely punishing regions that included the city of New Orleans and its neighboring state Mississippi.
Resulting in a total of just over 1700 people killed, and hundreds of thousands missing. When we
think of Hurricane Katrina stories, we think of stories that were published by the media such as,
Packing 145 mile an hour winds as it made landfall, the category 3 storm left more than a million

During the crisis of Hurricane Katrina many survivors experience forces far beyond natural causes,
some may call this animosity. In response to the increasingly desperate survivors search for food and
water, the government has issued a defacto martial law, with soldiers and police enforcing a shoot to
kill policy, forcing the entire New Orleans area to descend into chaos. Disturb by this atrocious
outcome, Egger describes these actions as a legacy of the war on terror, has the mentality that an
overwhelming military response was the solution to a humanitarian crisis (Egger 125) as he shines
light on the inhumane behavior of the United States government. Research shows that many
government officials and contractors had been sent into New Orleans to re establish order, and help
evacuate survivors, but for most survivors that was not the case. As stated by Eggers, long time
Muslim New Orleans resident Zeitoun, was forced out his home by government officials with guns
and was threatened to be shot even after he showed his I.D. confirming he is a United States Citizen
and a New Orleans resident. Egger gives us a brief taste of government animosity, as Zeitoun arrived
on dry land, and was immediately handcuffed and thrown in a white van. As seen in the evidence
above, we begin to see the transition Egger is making to expose his point of view that this is no

Ophelia Change In Hamlet
For the past few weeks Level four English has been reading Hamlet for the 450th anniversary of
Shakespeare. Recently we attend Hamlet screening in HD at the Lake Placid Center of the Arts
(LPCA). Both In the reading and the actual play the character that changed the most was very similar,
the main character, Ophelia.
To begin with, Shakespeare presents Ophelia as an egg with a slight crack in it. She is very smart and
aware of things and her surrounding. She is the type of person who can not really hide her feeling and
emotions. She would rather suffer in pain and hurt to please her family or the people around her. If
was ask Ophelia on question it would be; Why? That was the main question running through minds
while reading and watching the play. You can tell Ophelia has a mind and a heart of her own, but she
must obey her father and higher powers. Back then in those times women did not have much say or
choice in the things that had to do. So not having that much freedom on top of just having a good girl ,
must do what I am told prospective on things make Ophelia more of an annoying character. ... Show

Equipment managers may seem corny or inadequate, but without them it would be difficult for your
team to compete. According to the Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) (What Is
Certification, 2008), equipment managers purchase equipment; fit equipment such as football helmets;
checks, clean, and inspect uniforms and equipment to reduce wear and risk of injury while preserving
the life of the equipment and garments as part of the budget management process; and establish a
comprehensive accountability system that includes inventory, reconditioning, and storage. Equipment
managers play a key role in intercollegiate athletics, but sports information directors are important as
well. According to Staurowsky and Abney, sports information directors are responsible for both
technical and management functions. Sports information directors basically make sure to spread the
word of an event coming up. They hand out flyers, game programs, newsletters and a lot more stuff.

The World of Technical and Professional Writing Essay
The World of Technical and Professional Writing
As technical writing grows into a more common discipline, complicated questions concerning ethical
standards seem to present themselves more frequently. Much of what is written by a technical writer
will need to appeal to individuals of varying situational backgrounds, and in this day of intense
political correctness and moral responsibility, it is important to remember the ethical and other cultural
issues associated with writing for diverse groups of people.
Perhaps the foremost ethical question that presents itself to technical writers revolves around the
question What makes a piece of writing acceptable to one s audience? On the surface, this is a

When beginning one s research for any project, four basic issues should be considered: audience,
purpose, scope and prior knowledge. The writer should determine who his or her audience will be and
for what purposes the audience will use the writer s knowledge. The audience s intended purposes will
determine how broad or narrow to focus the scope of the information. Finally, the writer s prior
knowledge of the given topic will determine how much time should be devoted to research (Pickett,
Laster, and Staples 513 14). Each of these considerations will be discussed at intervals throughout this
text.
Ethical practices involving research methods are especially important to those individuals who have a
career in education and who use their experiences with students as a source for their professional
writings. Ethical issues, of course, are not limited to the field of education, but many questionable
concerns can certainly present themselves in pedagogical situations. For example, when using a
student (or a group of students) as a source of data for research, it is important to remain aware of his
or her vulnerability, dignity and privacy. These three conditions come into question on a regular basis
and are heavily debated by professionals in the field. The disputes are largely due to the fact that

  • 2. Essay on Leadership (Jack Welch) I have learned many lessons from Jack Welch on leadership. Jack Welch has been with the General Electric Company (GE) since 1960. Having taken over GE with a market capitalization of about $12 billion, Jack Welch turned it into one of the largest and most admired companies in the world by the time he stepped down as its CEO 20 years later, in 2000. Jack Welch used his uncanny instincts and unique leadership strategies to run GE, the most complex organization in the world and increased its market value by more than $400 billion over two decades. He remains a highly regarded figure in business circles due to his innovative leadership style. Jack Welch demonstrated Kouzes and Posner s five practices of modeling the way, inspiring a shared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jack Welch s vision of what GE was possible of gave the company a vision for twenty years while he was the CEO and chairman. He states, leaders make sure people not only see the vision, they live and breathe it. (Winning, pg 67) He not only allowed for employees to stretch, but demanded it. In teaching workers to stretch Welch knew that workers may fail. In fact, they probably will fail. But stretching, and stretching the business, is going to improve performance results. (Jack Welch on Leadership, pg 105) He also states that only by setting the performance bar high did it become possible to discover people s capabilities. Jack Welch s emphasis on candor and breaking the bureaucracy of modern business separated him from his contemporaries. He excited others of the possibility of being the biggest and best company in the world and rewarding his best employees that shared the values of GE. According to FORTUNE Editorial Director Geoffrey Colvin In The Ultimate Manager, Welch leads the annals of management history not for anticipating the new world s changes ahead, but for acting on them: His great achievement is that having seen it, he faced up to the huge, painful changes it demanded, and made them faster and more emphatically than anyone else in business. He led managers into this new world, which we still inhabit, and just as important, he showed business ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Comparing Jocasta In The Odyssey And Oedipus Most seems to enjoy tight casting female characters through two tropes: either the damsel in distress waiting for her knight in shining armor to save her, or a tough, power indulged witch who s only concern is herself. Very few times (and by even fewer male authors) will a female character be written as a medium between the two extremes. This problem has been occurring for centuries almost, even being found in literature dating back to B.C., with Penelope from Homer s The Odyssey and Jocasta from Sophocles Oedipus Rex : Penelope being written as the damsel with hundreds of suitors vying for her attention, all while desperately weaving and waiting day in and day out for her true love to come home; Jocasta as this harsh women who only wants to be around when everything is working to her advantage. Then there s Antigone, who stands up for her morals against Thebes without so much as batting an eye. The Odyssey tells the story of Odysseus, ruler of Ithaca who has been lost out at sea for the past 20 years after the Trojan war. At home waiting is his son Telemachus and his wife Penelope. Unsurprisingly Telemachus with the help of Athene ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first glance, it was exciting to see a woman dominate that severely in a man s world; but much like Lady Macbeth, all Jocasta had were her tough edges and a hunger for whatever power her family could get. When Oedipus presented her with the soothsayer s report about how he killed his father and will inevitably bed his mother keep in mind, Jocasta knew this was all true she put so much effort into making Oedipus believe that this wasn t true and that it was impossible (Sophocles 38). Later on when Oedipus found out Jocasta was his own mother, Jocasta later killed herself before she had to face responsibility for her actions to more than just Oedipus and his men. (Sophocles ... • 4. The Life Of Jacqueline Jones Introduced Slavery And... Jacqueline Jones introduced slavery and evolution from the perspectives of black and white men and women from the 1830s to the late 1980s, and stressed the importance of studies on black women in the working and domestic forces throughout history. The novel focused on the historic forces of labor patterns that black women in communities, at home, in the paid labor forces, and on antebellum plantations, have developed over time. There was a heavy amount of contextual evidence demonstrated throughout this book, what with the minute print and informative words given. The perspectives of the South and the North were infused with the perspectives of people today, and how discrimination has been implemented throughout our society both then and now. With the intent to introduce readers to individual African American working women [Preface, xv], she elicits such feelings and highlights the real struggle of those African Americans that were confirmed and transformed by giving examples from historical events such as The Great Depression, the American Revolution, Labor movements and reforms in both the North and the South. Labor of Love states that a majority of a black woman s work was molded by her family obligations, yet were vitally diverse from such experienced by white people, regardless of social class and wealth. The updated version reviews such advances and others in the labors and family lives of African American women with a more critical perspective and understanding. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Robert Wilson s Influence On Theatre Introduction The art form of theatre can be traced far back several centuries, with its origin not properly identified. We can find many different styles of it in civilizations from the Ancient Greeks, Ancient Romans, Ancient Chinese and more. It has developed through many styles in order to become what we see on stage today. As new technologies began to emerge in the late 20th century, lights, sound and visualization became increasingly important to theatre. More theatre creators began seeing them as not additional accessories, but a whole concept just as important as dialogue and movement. The use of technology has become such a value in theatre that companies such as the Production Resource Group have emerged in order to provide live productions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He attended university in his home state of Texas, before studying at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Despite training in America, much of his career has been made in Europe. He started getting involved with the performing arts as a child by learning from dance instructor Byrd Hoffman. Wilson says that she never taught technique, she never gave [him] a way to approach it, it was more that [he] discovered it on [his] own . We can see this in his work, as he s against the traditional trend of naturalism, saying naturalism is not interesting because it kills the mystery ... I like to use my imagination. Inspired by Hoffman s teaching of knowledge of the body, Wilson named his group of experimental theatre creators and performers the Byrd Hoffman School of Byrds early in his career. Although this group dissolved in the mid 1970s, today there is The Watermill Centre also set up by Wilson where students can train and create experimental theatre. Wilson is now best known for his use of lighting and visual aesthetics to serve dramatic and narrative purpose through colour, where not one production goes by without Wilson dismembering the body ... with light. Rather than making the production realistic for the audience, Wilson uses lighting to define the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Delivery Service For The United States shipping fleet. This delivery method allows Amazon more control by no longer having to depend on the U.S. Postal Service, UPS, or FedEx. This on demand delivery service allows independent couriers to deliver packages faster. Amazon first established this method of delivery to offer faster deliveries to Prime members. However, it is now offering drivers the opportunity to deliver standard packets as well. Amazon s shipping segment has a strategic position of low cost and a niche market, which aligns perfectly with what Flex drivers offer the company. The potential to reduce delivery times as well as cut costs is highly likely by expanding the use of own cargo planes and Flex drivers nationwide and internationally. As of December of 2016, Amazon is operating a total of 346 global distribution infrastructures, 201 of which are located in the U.S., and 37 facilities in the making. If cargo planes could deliver to these locations and if a Flex driver delivery system is offered directly from each of these facilities, no new distribution centers would be required. Expedited delivery services could be offered within the cities that already have established Amazon infrastructures. Since no new facilities are required, a combination of Prime Air and the Flex driver delivery system could be expanded in a short period of time both national and internationally. 2) Amazon s outbound shipping results for North America and International segments has been running on a net ... • 7. Essay about Understanding the Marshal Plan The date is September 2nd, 1945, the year in which The Empire of Japan surrendered thus ending a war in which fifty to seventy million people died, that being World War II. But the surrender of Japan not only meant the ending of the worst war in human history, it also meant the beginning of a new type of war, a war of deterrence in which two new superpowers, The United States of America and The Soviet Union would partake in. This new type of war, The Cold War, would test how strong the ideological stances of these two nations could withstand each other. It would also test how each of these nations could persuade other countries to follow their ideals. The United States believed in the ideals of capitalism. A system of government that is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If these countries were to all fall into the system of capitalism and under the influence of America, then the Soviets would lose their ability to have a centrally planned economy with other blocs, it would also mean that America and it s ideals would spread across Europe leaving little to no chance for Stalin and the Soviet Union to assert themselves as a true superpower with allies to back them up. But how would these countries accomplish their goals of advancing their ideals, capitalism and communism, into Europe? For the United States, this would be attained through the implementation of the Marshall Plan in April of 1948. (Lapsansky Werner, 2011, 402). But to understand the Marshall Plan, one must first examine the Truman Doctrine, which experts and historians have regarded as the basis for the Marshall Plan. Since 1944, the British government had been providing economic as well as military aid to Greece and Turkey to prevent a left wing insurgency by communists. Aid such as this was also provided to prevent the Soviet Union from expanding its Iron Curtain into Greece and Turkey. Unfortunately for Britain, the ravages of World War II prevented them to continue to support Greece and Turkey (Herring, 2008, 614). So when Britain informed the U.S. State Department that it could no longer offer aid to Greece and Turkey, the United States did not hesitate to act. That is because there was fear ... • 8. The Crime Of Organized Crime When I hear the term organized crime, I associate it with The Mafia , Scarface , and Cartels . Organized crime can be defined in a variety of ways. It is an ongoing criminal enterprise that is wisely working to generate profit engaging in illegal activities depending on demand, where its presence is preserve through force, intimidations, and corruption. According to the FBI, organized crime is basically a group of transnational, national, or local alliances of highly centralized enterprises run by crooks who make illicit profit or money through illegal and often violent activities (Abadinsky, 1981, p. 2). The Task Force on Organized crime states that, the core of organized crime activity is the supplying of illegal goods and services gambling, loan sharking, narcotics and other forms of vice to countless numbers of citizen customers (Abadinsky, 1981, p. 267). However, the business of organized frequently consists of activities that are neither services nor goods, instead they are undoubtedly scrounging. The connection among illicit business and organized crime can take one of three following forms: first we have the parasitic form, where associates of a criminal organization extract money from illegal businesspersons by intimidating them with violence (Abadinsky, 1981, p. 267). The reflection time allowed the kids to have quiet time or time to burn off their excess energy by playing basketball or football out in the grass areas. As we study the Revolutionary War we tend to think of the men that revolted, fought, and petitioned, but have we ever thought about what the women did during the war? In Revolutionary Mothers: Women in the Struggle for America s Independence, we get a chance to see the women s side of the war and what they did during this troubling time. These sources are about both women in during the colonial and Revolutionary times and the Revolutionary war in general. Carol Berkin did an exquisite job researching for her book, often citing at least twelve reliable sources for each chapter. Though she used many sources for writing her book, she did not use very many maps or pictures. She placed an illustration, depicting each topic, at the beginning of every chapter, with no maps, pictures, or other illustrations. Although she used few pictures or maps, she captured the reader s imagination by her depictive descriptions making her book seem to be a short historical fiction novel telling the journeys that different women took in the Revolutionary War era, making it unnecessary to use abundance of pictures, maps, or illustrations. A reoccurring theme throughout this story is the battle between good and evil. Most of the novel is about the struggles each force has and how most of the time good triumphs over evil. In A Tale of Two Cities, the triumph of love, the death of the Marquis, and the contrast between Sydney Carton and Charles Darnay shows how good triumphed over evil. The protagonist s husband clearly considers her an object of exchange and plans to inscribe upon her his continuing tale of punishment for wives disobedience [viii] again showing how women make themselves victims of their own behaviour, Helen Simpson s interpretation is that I really cant see what s wrong with finding out about what the great male fantasies about women are [ix] The heroine fights against the victimisation, and indeed reverses role with the male in the story, as it is Marquis who dies and it is the female who leaves this chamber and finds happiness. The Snow Child, another short story within The Bloody Chamber, is ambiguous. In this small story there are two victims, both of them women, in this case the bloody chamber could relate to the hole in the snow that the countess and count ride past, or it could relate to the vagina and virginity of the girl. • 16. Neutral Tones By Thomas Hardy Neutral Tones, a poem written by Thomas Hardy, is composed of four stanzas with each stanza consisting of four lines. The first and fourth line of each stanza rhyme, while the second and third line of each stanza rhyme. Each line is short enough to be spoken with a single breath, and the last line of each stanza is slightly indented. Both the tone and diction throughout the poem is consistently depressing. The theme of Neutral Tones is that love is not always what one would expect it to be. The theme is expressed as the speaker reflects upon a past relationship that did not end smoothly. The gloomy mood of the poem is immediately set in the first stanza. The opening sentence, We stood by a pond that winter day, provides details regarding the setting (1). The verb tense informs the reader that the speaker is reminiscing on a day that has happened in the past. Using the word that clues the reader in that the day being reflected upon was one of great importance to the speaker. Being that winter has a negative connotation as the depressing season, the tone is further set by mentioning the time of year; winter is lonely, frigid, and dormant. Using winter as the season sets the depressing tone for love to die similarly to how the leaves mentioned in the poem are also dying (3). The third line, a few leaves lay on the starving sod, showcases the death of the leaves which otherwise would be an ordinary event if it did not enhance the mood. The use of personification ... Ellis further argues that, the planet s carrying capacity of hunter gatherers was not any more than 100 million. Without their stone tools, he argues, the amount would be a lot less. The creation of agriculture, eventually empowered a higher population growth, which needed more land use. Although the population is much greater now, approximately 7.2 billion, society has adapted with innovation. In contrast to a UN assessment, Ellis believes that a peak population is sustainable if obligatory investments are finalizing in the substructure and conducive trade, supplemented with anti scarceness and food security strategies. , For instance, Chinese agriculture, shows that population growth will increase efficiency; this is because the relationship between population and economic wealth displays an increase of productivity. Over the period of 2007 to 2012, the region has seen an increase of 60,000 hectares of irrigated farm land (Hills, 2013) due to the conversion of beef, sheep and crop farms to water intensive dairy farming. There has also been an increase of 58% in the number of dairy farms and a 31% increase in the average herd size of dairy farms (Burns, 2013). For maximum production, sufficient irrigation is required for dairy farms (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, 2000). Therefore dairying requires at least ten times more water than other farming practices (Ward McKague, 2007). Over the summer months of December, January and February, this irrigation increase would represent a decrease in the amount of stressed vegetation in the study area. These losses erased the 846,000 jobs that the state had gained in the four year period between July 2003 and July 2007. We experience pressure because of standards that others expect us to accomplish. While some people may do well under pressure, many of us do bad under pressure. The Kimberly Girls Volleyball team will experience a lot of pressure as they head into the State tournament this weekend. Expectations are very high for them because they have had a lot of success so far this season. I talked to a girl who is currently on the varsity volleyball team that is going to state. Payton is not a starter and doesn t get to see the court often but she is just as important as anyone else on the team. She discussed with me some of the expectations that coaches and fans have for them. Every game our coach always tells us not to be satisfied, and that s kinda our team moto. I definitely think that s the expectation from our coaches is to not be satisfied with a win or how we played just to always make it better. I believe the expectation from the fans is just to stay positive and work as hard as we can. With expectations high from the coaches and fans, this can add a lot of pressure and stress onto the girls. As Payton said, I definitely think that s the expectation from our coaches it to not be satisfied with a win or how we played just to always make it better, we can see how they are pressured to win again because they can t be satisfied with winning one game. They have expectations to make it far in their season because they are not satisfied after one game, they want to win more and be number one. I also talked to a fan, Quinn Johnson, and asked what he thought the pressures were on the girls this year. He replied with: I think this season the pressures are there own standards. Last years team was not as good so other teams and fans did not expect so much out of them. But after we won the FVA this year and got the #1 seed for the playoffs more pressure was added to the team coming into playoffs. African Americans participated in thousands of nonviolent boycotts, freedom marches, and protests and nothing was ever changed until the morning of September 15, 1963. On that morning, a bomb, made of dynamite, forever changed the lives of the citizens attending the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Four young black girls died in the bombing, inspiring poet Dudley Randall to write his powerful poem, Ballad of Birmingham. Through his poetry, Randall influenced change in the Civil Rights movement, and by owning the largest printing press of the 1960s, played a huge role in the Black Arts Movement. When wood, natural gas, or coal burns, the oxygen in the air combines with the carbon and hydrogen in the fuel to produce water and the oxides of carbon. (Prentice Hall Chemistry The Study of Matter p.599.) Rust may seem like an average everyday phenomenon, however many things we cannot see take place as the rust begins to form. Many everyday exposures such as water or hot temperature can cause rust to form. The purpose of this paper is to relate chemistry concepts that are present during the ... Despite its destructive characteristics it can be stopped by acids or bases that will dissolve the rust off, but if you leave any bare iron outside exposed to heat and water rust will occur without doubt. After the rusting process has occurred iron can either lose its magnetic ability or weaken it. ( Rate of Rust Formation , van.physics.illinois) SC2 Molar mass of Rust and indicators of chemical properties. The molar mass of rust is 159.69 g*mol−1 . The chemical formula is Fe2O3. Chemical properties in rust are indicated by the change of color, smell, and production of a solid. Rust as a solid can appear on many household items such as cars, bikes, and tools. Basically, anything left outside can get rained on, and the rain will leave the item wet, and overtime rust will appear. Rust has a brown red orange color. Rust has a smell similar to blood. 4Fe+3O2+6H20 → 4Fe(OH)3 is the formula for the rusting of iron. So basically, do not leave items that you care for outside where they can get rained on because the rust will ruin it. SC3. Chemical bonds and the movement of electrons Fe2O3 is an ionic bond due to the reaction between a metal, Iron, and a nonmetal, Oxygen. Based on the atomic radius ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Mary Anne Warren Analysis Mary Anne Warren argues in the position that abortion is morally permissible because the fetus is not a person therefore has no rights and not considered immoral to be killed. I shall argue that Warren s argument in invalid since the claims of argument cannot be proven. The general argument made from Warren is (1) If a person, they have the right to life, (2) The fetus is not considered a person, and (3) Therefore, since the fetus is not a person they do not have a right to life. Also, (4) A human being needs all the morals of personhood to be considered a person, (5) An infant does not have morals, and (6) Therefore, an infant is not a person because the do not have the morals to be considered a person. From the time that Warren s article. On the Moral and Legal Status of Abortion , was published she had gotten critiques that her argument appears to justify not only abortion, but infanticide as well. (Warren, 16) Warren claims that if her argument is valid then infanticide is not a form of murder, since you are not killing a person. A human being is a person if they have the previous characteristics of personhood introduced into her argument. According to Warren ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her argument does not specify if the same reasoning can be applied to fetuses. Not specifying which certain traits are needed to be classified as a person opens up questions for critics saying that it is not wrong for infanticide because an infant is not more of a person than a fetus according to her arguments. Although her response about this is that infanticide is not just because it deprives the infants from people that care about them and can find happiness along their side. A person might want to raise these infants and the reason why they should be put into orphanages. In the end Warren s argument is contradicting that infanticide is morally wrong because it deprives form having ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Examples Of Divine Law In Antigone The emergence of world literature from antiquity to modern times is mostly dominated by the instrument of divine law, and therefore expresses an in depth understanding of the various kinds of intellectual, historical, social and cultural backgrounds that are relevant across Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America. At the turn of the 4th century BC, Divine law is derived as any law that theoretically comes directly from the will of God in comparison to man made law. The perception of natural law, is distinctly independent of human beings, whereas divine law is based on the notion that rely on human narrators and more closely related to various cultures. Thus, divine laws are intrinsically re shaped by human perception in time through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Antigone is who were urged to follow the laws of the god. The main protagonist Creon, who is the new king, who believes that divine law is what is the most important aspect of the culture, it s people, and what they should abide by. Creon says that they should obey the orders of divine law, which are of the former king Oedipus, and that man made law is evil. Thus, Creon s beliefs are a strong paradox of the fact that he is a mortal king, who is demonstrative of man v. god, and thus the author creates Creon s character in such a way the he is a mortal man who believes in divine law, not man made law. This is very effective in bringing the story to the reader to fully emphasize that divine law is based on a verisimilitude of god s will. Antigone is the female protagonist who follows the government or state laws, and is a firm believer that dive law is unwritten and unfailing. There is a distinction between the fact that Creon and Antigone appear as god and woman, against god and man, to understand the richly held beliefs that were relevant in those times, and that the people of ancient greece wanted to follow the laws of the gods that they saw fitting to the land and the people. Mostly, they believed that divine law was the only answer, and the one true way to live their lives through everything they do. Then there were those that believed that the will of the gods was not divine law, and that natural law was the best way to live, more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Hurricane Katrina Essay Hurricane Katrina pounded the Gulf Coast with tremendous force at daybreak, August 29, 2005, severely punishing regions that included the city of New Orleans and its neighboring state Mississippi. Resulting in a total of just over 1700 people killed, and hundreds of thousands missing. When we think of Hurricane Katrina stories, we think of stories that were published by the media such as, Packing 145 mile an hour winds as it made landfall, the category 3 storm left more than a million people in three states without power and submerged highways even hundreds of miles from its center. The hurricane s storm surge a 29 foot wall of water pushed ashore when the hurricane struck the Gulf Coast was the highest ever measured in the United States. ... In response to the increasingly desperate survivors search for food and water, the government has issued a defacto martial law, with soldiers and police enforcing a shoot to kill policy, forcing the entire New Orleans area to descend into chaos. Disturb by this atrocious outcome, Egger describes these actions as a legacy of the war on terror, has the mentality that an overwhelming military response was the solution to a humanitarian crisis (Egger 125) as he shines light on the inhumane behavior of the United States government. Research shows that many government officials and contractors had been sent into New Orleans to re establish order, and help evacuate survivors, but for most survivors that was not the case. As stated by Eggers, long time Muslim New Orleans resident Zeitoun, was forced out his home by government officials with guns and was threatened to be shot even after he showed his I.D. confirming he is a United States Citizen and a New Orleans resident. Egger gives us a brief taste of government animosity, as Zeitoun arrived on dry land, and was immediately handcuffed and thrown in a white van. As seen in the evidence above, we begin to see the transition Egger is making to expose his point of view that this is no different from a typical Katrina ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Ophelia Change In Hamlet For the past few weeks Level four English has been reading Hamlet for the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare. Recently we attend Hamlet screening in HD at the Lake Placid Center of the Arts (LPCA). Both In the reading and the actual play the character that changed the most was very similar, the main character, Ophelia. To begin with, Shakespeare presents Ophelia as an egg with a slight crack in it. She is very smart and aware of things and her surrounding. She is the type of person who can not really hide her feeling and emotions. She would rather suffer in pain and hurt to please her family or the people around her. If was ask Ophelia on question it would be; Why? That was the main question running through minds while reading and watching the play. You can tell Ophelia has a mind and a heart of her own, but she must obey her father and higher powers. Back then in those times women did not have much say or choice in the things that had to do. So not having that much freedom on top of just having a good girl , must do what I am told prospective on things make Ophelia more of an annoying character. ... Equipment managers may seem corny or inadequate, but without them it would be difficult for your team to compete. According to the Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) (What Is Certification, 2008), equipment managers purchase equipment; fit equipment such as football helmets; checks, clean, and inspect uniforms and equipment to reduce wear and risk of injury while preserving the life of the equipment and garments as part of the budget management process; and establish a comprehensive accountability system that includes inventory, reconditioning, and storage. Equipment managers play a key role in intercollegiate athletics, but sports information directors are important as well. According to Staurowsky and Abney, sports information directors are responsible for both technical and management functions. Sports information directors basically make sure to spread the word of an event coming up. They hand out flyers, game programs, newsletters and a lot more stuff. • 35. The World of Technical and Professional Writing Essay The World of Technical and Professional Writing As technical writing grows into a more common discipline, complicated questions concerning ethical standards seem to present themselves more frequently. Much of what is written by a technical writer will need to appeal to individuals of varying situational backgrounds, and in this day of intense political correctness and moral responsibility, it is important to remember the ethical and other cultural issues associated with writing for diverse groups of people. Perhaps the foremost ethical question that presents itself to technical writers revolves around the question What makes a piece of writing acceptable to one s audience? On the surface, this is a seemingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When beginning one s research for any project, four basic issues should be considered: audience, purpose, scope and prior knowledge. The writer should determine who his or her audience will be and for what purposes the audience will use the writer s knowledge. The audience s intended purposes will determine how broad or narrow to focus the scope of the information. Finally, the writer s prior knowledge of the given topic will determine how much time should be devoted to research (Pickett, Laster, and Staples 513 14). Each of these considerations will be discussed at intervals throughout this text. Ethical practices involving research methods are especially important to those individuals who have a career in education and who use their experiences with students as a source for their professional writings. Ethical issues, of course, are not limited to the field of education, but many questionable concerns can certainly present themselves in pedagogical situations. For example, when using a student (or a group of students) as a source of data for research, it is important to remain aware of his or her vulnerability, dignity and privacy. These three conditions come into question on a regular basis and are heavily debated by professionals in the field. The disputes are largely due to the fact that professional and ...
