2. ■ Definition of Topology:
A network topology is the physical
and logical arrangement of nodes
and connections in a network
3. ■ Typesof Topology :
1. Star Topology.
2. Ring Topology.
3. Bus Topology.
4. Tree Topology.
5. Mesh Topology.
4. Star Topology:
Star topology is a network topology in which each network
component physically connected to a central nodes.
Advantages:
■ Less expensive.
■ Easy to install and Robustness.
Disadvantages :
■ Failure to control hub will effect entire network.
■ Performance is based on the single concentrator i.e hub
5. Ring Topology :
Ring topology is a network in which each nodes
connects to exactly two other nodes, forming a
single pathway.
Advantages:
■ Data transmission is high speed.
■ Cheap to install and expand.
Disadvantages:
■ Troubleshooting is difficult in this topology.
■ Less secure.
6. Bus Topology :
Bus topology is a type of network in which all devices are
connected to a single cable called “bus”.
Advantages :
■ Coaxial or twisted pair cables are used in this topology.
■ Cost of the cable is less compared to other topology.
Disadvantages :
■ If the common cable fails, the whole system will crash
down.
■ Security is very low.
7. Tree Topology :
In tree topology, there is one central node, and each node is
connected to the central node through a single pathway.
Advantages :
■ We can add new devices to the existing network.
■ Error detection and error correction are very easy.
Disadvantages :
■ The cost is very high because of cabling.
■ If the central hub get fails, entire system fails.
8. Mesh Topology :
Mesh topology is a type of topology in which every device or
computer is connected to every other device.
Advantages:
■ Mesh topology is robust.
■ Provides privacy and security.
Disadvantages :
■ Huge amount of cabling I/0 ports required.
■ Installation and reconnection is difficult.
