Differences Between Gaap And Ifrs
Introduction
There are two distinct methods of accounting for finances in the business world. These two methods
are the methods both prescribed by the U.S., which is known as the generally accepted accounting
principles (GAAP), and that which is used by the international community known as international
financial reporting standards (IFRS). GAAP is regulated by the financial accounting standards board
(FASB) while IFRS is regulated by the international accounting standards board (IASB). These two
methods are currently under a process which is known as convergence or harmonization so that the
United States will eventually become integrated into the global community (Miller, S. E. 2009). This
will cause financial statements to be more usable for more people across the globe as well as enhance
citizens of the U.S. s ability to perform business more efficiently internationally.
Principles Versus Rules Based Methods
There are many challenges and hurdles to overcome in order to achieve harmonization between GAAP
and IFRS. The differences are widespread. Most importantly and fundamentally GAAP is considered
to be more rules based, while principalities are largely what guide the users of IFRS. GAAP
Regulations are more detailed, specific and voluminous. Conversely, IFRS regulations are less
voluminous and make allowance for more exceptions. As an example IFRS allows the reversal of a
write down after the fact while GAAP that when a write down is taken then it is irreversible.

Theme Of Social Class In The Great Gatsby
Social Class is defined as a division of society based on social and economic status. Social Class in
today s society determines popularity and reputation. Life s great opportunities come easier for people
higher on the social class ladder. Some people are born into a higher social ranking than others. These
people have it made for the rest of their lives. They really don t have to work for anything. For one
who is not as fortunate, is it possible for them to climb to the high end of the social ladder? One would
think so. As literature and real life examples show that it is most definitely possible. People don t
usually agree with the Rags to Riches concept because of how hard it is to go up a social ranking.
Which is completely understandable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Choice Theory Vs Reality Therapy
Article Review and Critique
Choice Theory may be applied to a wide array of persons and conflicts, the focus is on total behavior,
which is based on four interacting needs present from birth to death (Seligman Reichenberg, 2014).
Choice theory and Reality therapy correlate in that they both empower people to take control of their
internal and external conflicts. Furthermore, Reality Therapy initiated by William Glasser in the 1960s
is particularly useful in settings such as schools, correctional institutions, and substance use treatment
programs that emphasize changing behavior (Seligman Reichenberg, 2014). In the article, Frequently
Asked Questions and Not So Brief Answers: Part II, we are able to analyze the responses to two
questions for teachers and therapists.
Summary
The questions presented in the article that will be further analyzed along with the significant role they
present. The first one is, what is the role of the past in the practice of reality therapy? The next, does
choice theory and reality therapy give attention to the outside world? In fact, reality therapy
emphasizes on the recent past due to the fact that it is connected to the present situation. Indeed,
implementing choice theory and reality therapy is an artful process that takes into consideration

Furthermore, we are able to understand that therapist provide support in various manners that support
them in improving their quality of life and objectivity. Most importantly, it is important to note that
there were speech marks from William Glasser. However, a weakness in the article was that although
the first questions was thoroughly answered the second question lacked details. Although, the article
provided very detailed information it would be useful to read more

INTERDEPARTMENTAL MEMORANDUM
DATE: May 18, 2013
TO: Fire Chief, Tinderville, Ohio
SUBJECT: Analysis of the Feasibility of Adding a Second Paramedic Ambulance Unit
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
This memorandum is provided in response to your request for an analysis of the feasibility of adding a
second paramedic ambulance unit (PAU) for the City of Tinderville using the six components of the
fire service management cycle. The memorandum provides a review of the relevant literature
concerning the respective advantages and disadvantages of this addition, followed by the rationale in
support of its adoption.
REVIEW AND ANALYSIS
Planning. An indicator of quality emergency medical services care is measured by how frequently the
PAU achieves a 4 minute response time (Pons, Haukoos, Bludworth, Cribley Markovich, 2008).
Although an 8 minute response time is followed by many communities, this guideline has not been
shown to substantively improve patient outcomes; however, a survival benefit has been identified
when the response time was within 4 minutes for patients with intermediate or high risk of mortality
(Pons et al., 2008).
Organizing. On the one hand, the use of PAUs as addition to the emergency department extends the
reach of medical facilities, including mobile coronary care without sacrificing normal control systems
(Gee, 2007). On the other hand, though, a study of a community with a comparable population and
demographics

Lincoln In The Bardo
The novel Lincoln in The Bardo by George Saunders is labeled as a work of historical fiction on its
copyright page. However this book has many aspects of a biographical novel in it. While William
Lincoln is only one of the main characters the focus is on the importance for both him and his father to
move on from the tragedy of William s death. Biographical novels use historical figures to tell a truth
about society today and in some cases (usually children and teen forms) emotional truth. In Lincoln in
The Bardo the main focus of the novel is the idea of moving on from tragedy. In the end of the novel
there is also a small amount of focus on the idea of understanding another person and what they have
gone through.
The novel is a blend of historical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
President Lincoln did go to William s grave to grieve, but we do not have the proof of him holding
William. In chapter XX of Lincoln in The Bardo President Lincoln is told to have held William s body
for almost ten minutes by the three main narrators Hans Vollman, Roger Bevins III, and the Reverend
Everly Thomas (58 Saunders). And this is what the novel is about. Learning to work through one s
grief by letting go and finding better ways to cope. In the novel William is stuck in the bardo, which is
defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary as the intermediate or astral state of the soul after death
and before rebirth a sort of ghostly limbo. Hans Vollman and Roger Bevins III are also going through
heavy denial about their deaths, which keeps them from moving on as well. They have been dead long
enough and have convinced each other of the fact that they are just sick in their sick boxes. It is in
William Lincoln though that we really see how good it is for these characters to move on. William in
trying to stay in the graveyard in this bardo state, declines in spirit health. On page 195 the Reverend
Everly Thomas describes William in this manner as real as the fading, webbed boy breathing
shallowly at my feet, banded down snugly across his chest like a captive of the wild Indians. The
reader had been warned at the beginning of the novel at how terrible it is for children to stay in the
bardo for long. William is choosing to stay stuck in this place of limbo because he not only does not
understand where he is, but his father also told William s remains that they would be back. The other
spirits know that for children it is better for them to move on to the unknown and try to encourage him
to it. William was almost convinced to move on until President Lincoln visited his body and held it.
He refuses to leave when there is still the

Aristotle s View Of Ownership
Everyone has a different view of what ownership is, and what it does to a person. For many, owning
something is thought of as possessing a physical object that can be called yours, though it can be much
more. Plato says that the idea and act of owning anything is harmful to someone as a person. Aristotle
has a brighter outlook, saying that the act of owning something is beneficial to a person. While Sartre
claims that the idea of ownership goes beyond simply having an object, and can apply to things that
don t actually exist. While all of these views are valid, with each being able to hold it s own ground, it
is up to the listener of the three to figure out and justify which applies best to them.
Support 1: Plato say s that the sense of owning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He says that someone can own more than physical objects. That people can own a skill, or idea along
side physical things, never saying what this does to a person. This thought of being able to own idea s
can be easily seen in copyright and patents, where a persons pays for their idea to not be legally used
by others. To put it simply, Sartre s idea of ownership has become law in many countries. Now, people
can actually own their ideas, making it so that only they may use them and profit off of them. Looping
back to Plato, this can sadly need to greed, with people making ridiculous copyright strikes for the
smallest of things, or inflating the price of something that is in actuality very cheap. Though, going to
Aristotle, plenty of good has also come out of this system. Sartre s idea also goes into the perception
of owning something, saying that, ...becoming proficient in some skill and knowing something
thoroughly means that we own it. This is saying that a skill can also be seen as a possession that is
gaged off of how well a person feels they know something. This, or course, cannot actually be
measured, as it is simply the perception of a person s own

Jealousy in Shakespeare´s Othello Essay
Jealousy is a powerful emotion that can blind oneself from identifying the truth. Shakespeare heavily
emphasizes this theme throughout the drama Othello, especially through the actions of characters. In
the play the heinous antagonist, Iago, uses each character s jealousy to deceive that person and
manipulate the truth. His false promises and deceitfulness bring to the demise of many of the main
characters in the play, including the protagonist, Othello. Othello could not have been deceived if it
were not for his powerful jealousy. Therefore, Shakespeare is telling us that jealousy is an ugly trait
that can hide the truth, which in turn causes many problems between characters in the play.
The play opens with Roderigo and Iago standing in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the quarrel, Iago reveals to the reader that he intends to use the fact that Casillo and Desdemona
will be spending more time together, in order for Casillo to get his job back, to convince Othello that
she is having an affair (1220).
Othello is an easy target in this drama, because Iago already knows that he is a very insecure person.
With that stated, it will be easy for Iago to use Othello s jealousy to trick him into thinking that
Desdemona is an unfaithful wife. Iago will manipulate the way Othello sees things in order to
convince him that what he sees is innocent acts between Desdemona and Casillo. Iago s starts to plant
the idea in Othello s head of an affair after Othello sees Casillo rush leaving Desdemona in a manner
that looked as though he is guilty (1223). Alone with Othello, Iago begins to make Othello feel
threatened by Casillo and Desdemona s apparent relationship by bringing up the fact that Casillo
served as Desdemona s and Othello s go between during the time of their courtship. The conversation
ends with Iago asking Othello to watch carefully of Desdemona and Casillo, and Iago exits giving
Othello time to question the accusation of Iago (1225 1228).
Othello s insecurities are brought to surface as Othello announces, to only the audience, his thoughts.
During his speech, Othello pounders the idea that Desdemona has lost her love for him, listing many

Historical Context and Performance Reflection of Ocean Alley
Ocean Alley is an ensemble consisting of 6 musicians (guitarist/vocalist, lead guitarist, rhythm
guitarist, bassist, keyboardist and drummer), which was established in 2010 on the Northern Beaches,
Sydney. Ocean Alley is currently touring various local pubs around Sydney and is also going to begin
recording its next EP as of next month. The band encompasses elements of natural, beat driven reggae
as well as various components of psychedelic rock through a large number of inspirations(Alley). This
has given the band a highly diverse, unique sound of psychedelic rock/reggae fusion(Alley). This
review will examine the historical context in which this band has grown from as well as the textural
and structural characteristics in its live performance, as well as in comparison to its studio recordings.
It will focus on the compositions of Yellow Mellow and Freedom Lover to highlight how the use of
texture, density and the fusion of two genres can create a highly distinctive sound that sets them apart
from other ensembles.
One of the main genres that Ocean Alley has embraced is reggae. Reggae is a specific genre created in
Jamaica, formed through heavy rhythmical elements where the rhythm guitar can almost be seen as a
percussion instrument on its own through the use of the expressive technique known as staccato. This,
in combination with distinctive drum and bass rhythmic structures, as well as a particular chord
structure has created a genre that has combined elements of funk,

Kazushige Goto used this article to address and acknowledge earlier publications that have been

The broad approach to figuring out if compression garments reduced the increase in muscle damage
markers in blood due to prolonged exercise was tested using various methods. Some of the methods
that were used involved grading muscle soreness and fatigue based on a 10 cm visual analog scale,
with 0 cm indicating no pain or fatigue, and 10 cm indicating the worst pain and fatigue. A thigh and
calf circumference was conducted by tape measurements for the pre marked sites that was
distinguished before the exercise started. Then a maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) of knee
extension and plantar flexion was assessed using an isokinetic dynamometer, and finally, blood
samples were taken by using the antecubital vein to determine different components of blood with
serum and plasma samples obtained by a centrifugation. As discussed in the article, all of these tests,
combined with other components, were used to help each author in the article shed light on the idea
that compression tights can cause a difference during prolonged running (120 minutes or more) in
dealing with the decrease or reduction in muscle damage markers in the blood. The researchers in this
study used different means of measurement to gather information on different aspects of the study.

Checks and Balances
Checks and Balances. Checks and balances is a system that is a part of out U.S. Constitution. This
system was put in to place so that no part of government would have too much power. The three
branches: judicial, legislative and executive are constantly granting and checking the other branches
actions, this is to make sure no one person can gain an excessive amount of control in government.
For example according to , the legislative branch is in charge of making laws. The executive branch
can veto the law, thus making it harder for the legislative branch to pass the law. The judicial branch
may also say that the law is unconstitutional and thus make sure it is not a law.The legislative branch
can also remove a president or judge that is not doing his/her job properly. The executive branch
appoints judges and the legislative branch approves the choice of the executive branch. Again, the
branches check and balance each other so that no one branch has too much power . Senate rejected a
president s nominee to the Supreme Court. The senate has rejected a total of 12 nominees out of 159
nomination for Supreme Court Justice that presidents have submitted for confirmation. In 1795
George Washington was the first president to have his nomination for Chief Justice rejected. Robert
Bork for Associate Justice nomination by Ronald Reagan was the last to be rejected in 1987 by the
senate. The Senate sometimes take their time confirming nominees, which includes 24 they ve

Fahrenheit 451 Materialism Analysis
Bradbury also warns against the materialistic view of his society. In all three texts, the characters live
in very materialistic societies. In Fahrenheit 451, people become so consumed with gaining the newest
in technology. Montag s wife asks him for a new TV, even though they had just gotten their third one
not that much earlier. With people so focused on buying more and more, by influencing what is
available, the people can be controlled. In an effort to please every minority, books are outlawed.
However the twist is that the people themselves outlawed books, without a government decree. Beatty
explains all of this to Montag by saying, It didn t come from the Government down. There was no

The only people who still remain individual are the people connected to books. Leonard Mead, one of
the last writers, is the only person in his entire city to go for walks. He is also the only person who
seems at peace with himself, and is not inside watching TV. He also reveals that books stopped selling,
which again alludes to the fact that the people themselves led to their loss of individuality. In
Kaleidoscope, materialism is also exposed. One of the other astronauts that are launched into the
vacuum of space has multiple houses on multiple planets, and also has several wives. He goes on and
talks about it a little, until Morris interrupts him saying, I m not jealous of you anymore, because it s
over for you as it is for me, and right now it s like it never happened (Bradbury 34). By him saying
this, he rejects Lespere s materialistic ways, and proves that he himself had thought in the same way.
Yet now, he sees the faults of this thinking. This exposure of materialism in all three texts shows that it
also plays a role in the loss of individuality. If everyone is buying exactly the same thing, people no

History Of Slavery In African Americans
African American veneration of elders did not begin in the new world but was transported by slave
ships from Africa during the Middle Passage. Despite the many Africans who chose to acclimate to
slavery to survive in the new world, there were many who held tight to their beliefs and traditions
including ancestor worship. The values that have been passed down from generation to generation
have focused on family, along with the emphasis on both children and elders in the African American
community (Billingsley, 1992). From the onset of slavery in the United States, informal caregiving
included fictive kin and has played a crucial role in the African American community as a response to

Prepared Infant Formulas
The Infant
Breast feeding is the most favorable food an infant receives. A woman starts to lactate after birth and
the newborn yearns for their mother s milk. The child and mother bond creating a comfort
environment. The breast milk comprises of balanced nutrients that carry immunological traits.
However, if the mother didn t have a healthy pregnancy or has a sexual transmitted infection the milk
may do more harm than good. (Leifer 397 398) Supplemental nutrition is readily available if breast
feeding was not ideal. Synthetic nutrition is different than human milk. Allergies could possibly
develop and it could disrupt their digestion. Pediatricians speak favorably of iron fortified formulas
due to low maternal iron it decreases after 6 months of age. Cow s milk is not good for infants until
they are one. There are many companies that create prepared infant formulas. Many well known

Selecting and preparing solids foods for the infant may be tricky for parents. There are several
concerns that parents might have. Solid foods are introduced at the age 4 months to 6 months.
Pediatricians speak well of rice cereal. It should be the first food to be introduced since it barely
harbors allergic reactions. Fruits, vegetables, and meats should be a part of their diet. Thoroughly

the infant very ill. Parents are also taught to pour plenty of water into the food to keep a pureed

The Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Weapons Proliferation
Equally important to the safety standards forced upon nuclear engineers, is the prospect of nuclear
weapons proliferation as a byproduct of energy production. It has been a topic of debate since the mid
1940s when the first nuclear bombs were being produced for war under the United States Manhattan
Project, and since then has received varied attention throughout the years. In its simplest form, there is
concern that the same technologies that are being used to produce nuclear power, may also be able to
allow access to nuclear weapons in the process. The Nuclear Threat Initiative covers these issues,
pointing explicitly to fuel enrichment and reprocessing as the most dangerous. It is believed that high

Within the treaty, enacted in 1970, each state subscribed is responsible for the disarmament,

transfer of weapons between nuclear or non nuclear states, followed by Article III which mandates

state to conduct research on nuclear energy peacefully, the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty ensures
that each country signing (a total of 190 have signed), is monitored for the improper use of nuclear
energy within the country. This treaty was made in light of the truth of preventing nuclear weapons
proliferation, such that it requires the international cooperation and participation a cooperation of
industry, civility, and security to further the safety of nuclear energy for the public. The countries
possessing nuclear weapons during the treaty s conception (China, Russia, France, the U.K. and the
U.S), are all committed to the steady reduction of weapons stockpiles in their own countries; all
signing countries are not permitted to produce nuclear weapons

Essay on Hector as the Ideal Homeric Man of Homer s Iliad
Hector as the Ideal Homeric Man of Homer s Iliad
Homer s Iliad enthralls readers with its valiant heroes who fight for the glory of Greece. The Iliad,
however, is not just a story of war; it is also a story of individuals. Through the characters words and
actions, Homer paints portraits of petulant Achilles and vain Agamemnon, doomed Paris and Helen,
loyal Patroclus, tragic Priam, versatile Odysseus, and the whole cast of Gods. Ironically, the most
complete character in the epic is Hector, enemy hero, and Prince of Troy. Hector is in many ways the
ideal Homeric man: he is a man of compassion and piety, a man of integrity and bravery, a man who
loves his family, and above all, a man who understands and fulfills his social ... Show more content on

Had Agamemnon demonstrated the same sort of compassion towards the supplicant Chryses, the
Greeks would have been spared the wrath of Apollo. Hector s compassion and his respect for the gods,
engenders the trust and respect of his people, and makes him an ideal leader.
Hector continues on to the palace, where he is embraced by his mother Hecuba, who offers him wine
with which to refresh himself and to honor the Gods. Hector politely answers, Mother, not now I d
lose my nerve for war. And I d be ashamed to pour a glistening cup to Zeus with unwashed hands. I m
splattered with blood and filth how could I pray to the lord of storm and lightning? (VI, 179 183). He
then recommends that his mother go with offerings to Athena s shrine to make sacrifices for the
success of the Trojans. Hector s respectful address to his mother, his humility before the Gods and his
understanding of the appropriate forms of supplication, stand in sharp contrast to Achilles earlier
whining and self serving demands made to Thetis. Once again, in the matter of piety as well as
compassion, Hector is the superior man.
Nowhere in the Iliad is Hector s superiority more obvious than when he is contrasted with his brother
Paris, the man who bears the sole responsibility for the chaos and terror that engulfs Troy. Hector finds
Paris polishing (and) fondling his splendid battle gear, his shield and breastplate, turning over and
over his long curved bow (VI, 243 245).

Genetic Interventions And The Ethics Of Enhancement Of...
When you look at society today, it is plausible to say half of the population is affected by cancer or
disease. Now based on the millions of people on this earth, this assumption is not one to be proud of.
Day by day and year by year medical advancements have been in affect and so far helping decrease
the number of deadly cases of disease. Recently researchers have made a major breakthrough in the
field of medicine. Technology has become so advanced that physicians are able to detect disease
present in genes inside a fetus before it is completely developed. Because they are now able to identify
the gene, it brings up a whole new topic of altering specific genes upon our children to physically
enhance them. In most cases, parents would choose to enhance these genes to have athletic or
musically talented child. Now whether you think this is ethical or not is up to you however, I will be
evaluating three articles on this topic and presenting the argument for each one. Julian Savulescu
wrote Genetic Interventions and the Ethics of Enhancement of Human Beings and in this article he
clearly states his position on the issues as well as providing supporting and opposing sides to the
matter. He starts off by explaining this issue is focused on biological enhancement and more
specifically genetic enhancement. Then the thesis statement is provided, I want to argue that, far from
it s being merely permissible, we have a moral obligation or moral reason to enhance ourselves and

Prayer Is The Most Essential Of Spiritual Growth
One of the most difficult questions a Christian is often asked is where they are in their spiritual
journey. Celebration of Discipline helps us understand the important aspects that help deepen our
faith. Foster writes that there are three categories of disciplines me must learn: inward, outward, and
corporate. Each category has four subcategories. I believe that prayer, service, and worship are the
most essential in spiritual growth. The first category Foster writes about is inward discipline. Inward
discipline is an act that other believes cannot measure. Inward disciplines are personal to your
relationship with God. The four types of inward disciplines are meditation, prayer, fasting, and study.
Although they are all important, I think that prayer is the most beneficial. The discipline of prayer
brings us into the deepest work of the human spirit (Page 33). Prayer is the key to God transforming
us. As we learn to pray, we learn that our will eventually molds to His will. I have been hearing a lot
of messages lately about the Lord s Prayer. When we say Thy will be done we are not asking God to
give us what we want, we are asking God to transform what we want to become what He wants.
Prayer is something that we should center our daily lives around. When we begin to prayer God meets
us where we are, no matter how far along we are in our journey. God uses prayer to push us deeper
into who He is. Sometimes prayer can be frustrating because we do not feel like our prayers

How Does Oprah s Decision To Open Her Academy
I am not in support of Oprah s decision to open her academy because it does not functionally mimic
the environment the girls were brought up in and therefore, cannot educate the girls appropriately for
economic and political life in South Africa. Oprah s Dream Academy for Girls is a lavish and modern,
something fit for people able to afford a boarding school education. The theory of functionalism states
that schools are seen to adapt students to the economic, political, and social institutions of its society.
The government did not support funding the academy, offering that only the basics are needed to
create a learning environment, which Oprah rejected. She privatized the academy and invested
millions of dollars in luxuries and special accommodations. The society the girls live in is one where
majority of citizens are under the poverty line. The academy also caters to girls who are economically

criteria. If her academy takes some of people s acceptance, it could disrupt the function of being a

Hate And The Video Games Can Be Played By Anyone Because...
Hate in a Video Game Most video games can be played by anyone because of their safe ratings for
younger people. Games rated mature for violence or any other unsafe qualities, usually are played by
people over the age of 17. Shooting games are one of the more violent genres that are played by
people all the time. Usually putting two factions or types of people to fight each other in hatred of the
other. The killing of one group of people in a game can be taken by some as racism or anti semitic.
But most games don t try to disseminate or intentionally express hateful racism to other cultures.
Rather, encourage and build positive cooperation with others in the gaming community and not being

hateful meanings toward a certain group of people, usually having to kill or destroy the opposing side.
Lets admit it, killing someone in a game is really fun, but needs to be separate from the real. First

How It Feelings To Be Colored By Zora Neale Hurston
Critical response essay How it feels to be colored written in 1972 by Zora Neale Hurston is a very
descriptive piece in which the author, talks about what it was like growing up in all black community
where she felt no race, until stepping into a more mixed and diverse environment. Surrounded by
more people of the white origin, where she begins to feel the feeling of being different Colored . Neale
uses a very descriptive word choice and attention grabbing metaphors to help portray her belief That it
doesn t matter the shade nor color of an individual s skin, when judged based on personal morals and
the desire of one s wellbeing we do not differ so much at all and in fact we all share similar
characteristics. Zora helps bring to light the social indifferences a colored person may have felt in
those times. I believe her work helps portray that given the short end of the stick, life is what you
make it; and how you perceive things. Once an individual has self happiness theirs not a person or
thing that can take that away from them. Neale s work how it feels to be colored me takes place in
Eatonville, Florida where Zora the main character outlines her journey from a curious little colored
girl, into a self assured, independent Black woman. Growing up in an environment where white
people were just persons that passed through town heading to and from their destination. Words were
never exchanged between

Brain Observation
On the 12 of March of 2016 I went to McAllen International Museum of Arts Science (IMAS) to
attend an exposition about the brain. The exposition covered the entire museum, especially one big
room where there were many interactive activities. Although the room was full of people (mostly
kids), I had the opportunity to experience some of the activities. These activities were all related to the
brain and the way it reacted to certain situations. Each activity covered a different aspect of the brain,
for example, there was one activity in which the participant had to catch a ruler with two fingers, the
first time you try it with your strong hand(in my case the right hand), and the second time, with the
hand that it is used the least. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brain teasers are puzzles created with the intention to test the brain function and/or to show people the
reality of how their brains work. These puzzles challenge the brain and test out our cognitive abilities,
the cognitive abilities are more about how we function, these abilities help us achieve complex and
easy task of the everyday life. There are many cognitive abilities and they vary depending on what
part of the brain you are using. Naturally, as the time passes by and we grow older our cognitive
abilities start to decline little by little especially if they are not used often but there are many options
that help to prevent a fast decline on the abilities. Overall I had a very good time at the museum, the
time went fast by and I was able to learn a lot of how my brain functions. A great thing was that it not
only covered brain function but also food and the calories which was also very informative. I think it
was especially good that the activities were very interactive, when I went to the museum I was
expecting a 3 hour long speech about the brain and its functions, but it turned out to be a great, fun,
hands on learning experience which I enjoyed very

How I Changed My Family Essay
Relationships are something that we all yearn for as humans. However there are instances where they
are hard to keep. I grew up in Lynchburg Virginia and I had few people I considered friends. I wasn t a
very social person and liked to keep to myself over being in the company of others. I was always the
person that my friends went to when they needed someone to listen to them.
The way a lot of my friendships went was I would listen to them, offer help, and see where it went. I
was not the person who opened up real easy. I wasn t comfortable having others around except the few
people I had considered my friends. The only person I really opened up to was my grandmother. I was
closer to her then I was my parents.
However due to issues with my parents I had to move to a new school in a new area leaving behind
the few friends I had and my grandmother. Starting in 4th grade I had to change schools due to family
issues. My friends Alana, Ashley, Emily, Chelsie claimed they understood why I was moving but I
talked to them even less. It took me most of the year to make a new friend and I was a little more open
with them. With this new friend I actually opened a little and talked to them about many things.
When I finally got to move back to my old school the friends had almost forgotten me completely and
had made new friends they told everything to. Emily and Chelsie completely stopped talking to me
because they said I would never talk to them as a girl. However Ashley and

Examples Of Class Discrimination In The Hunger Games
CLASS OPPRESSION AND GENDER DISCRIMINATION IN THE HUNGER GAMES The ability
of a movie to portray feelings of pain, empathy and sadness, as well as joy, freedom and celebration
are what makes the movie great. Movies attract audiences not just to the story line, but to the depth of
understanding waiting to be unveiled. Gary Ross The Hunger Games is one such movie. It takes
audiences through a futuristic world of love, war and hatred as seen through the eyes of a head strong
young girl. As if directed mainly to inform the public about the inhuman capabilities of rulers, The
Hunger Games portrays human behaviours against people of the lower class and prejudice towards
women. Its analysis shows The Hunger Games as a text demonstrating the oppression ... Show more

Alexander The Great Quotes
Alexander the Great
I once heard this quote by Alexander the Great it quote An army of sheep, led by a lion, is better than
an army of lions, led by a sheep. ~ Alexander the Great. Alexander is from Pella, Macedonia in 356
B.C. Alexander s parents were Queen Olympias and King Phillip the II. Although some legends said
that Alexander s father was Zeus. When Alexander turned twelve he tamed a wild horse called
Bucephalus which is a huge horse with a furious attitude. The horse became his and battled with him
against other places for most of his life.
When Alexander was only thirteen his father called the great sophist Aristotle to teach his son.
Alexander learned that his favorites that Aristotle taught him was literature, science, medicine, and
philosophy. Alexander was sixteen his father went to go battle the Byzantiums and left Alexander in
charge of Macedonia. One day Alexander saw the chance to prove he is military worth and led a
cavalry against the Sacred Band of Thebes. Alexander took his ability and bravery on display and
destroyed the Sacred Band of Thebes. Alexander s father got killed in 336 B.C. Alexander was only
twenty and declared the Macedonian throne his. He killed all of his opponents before they could
challenge him. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and fought the city of Sardes and easily won. From Halicanassus, Alexander headed north to Gordium,

Nixon And The Watergate Scandal
Patriotism means to stand by the country not by the president. Though everyone agrees that Colson
will be sent to jail if he caught they disagree whether he should have worked for Nixon in the
Watergate scandal. Colson was offered a position to help Nixon with special interactions such as
getting rid of the men who released Pentagon Papers and help Nixon win the 2nd election. Charles
Colson should not have agreed to work for Nixon with the Watergate scandal for three reasons. He has
a family he would lose, there would be punishment, and he would jeopardize national security.
The first reason Charles Colson should not have agreed to work for Nixon with the Watergate scandal
is because Colson would lose his family. He would be removed

Pro Choice Of Abortion
Valeria Arauza
Ms. Cooney
English CP10
30 October 2017 Marissa recently found out she was pregnant, she was taking birth control pills as
contraceptives to avoid a pregnancy, but she knew she needed to take an emergency contraceptive.
Marissa was a pro life activist, meaning she opposed abortions. She, along with all the other pro life
supporters, never did accept that people had abortions. People felt the same on the topic as her, they
were all completely against abortions and shamed woman who had took part in the practice. She did
not even understand why people even thought about having abortions, she believed only egotistical
woman wanted them. Until she found out she was pregnant, but knew she did not want to start a
family with the man nor did she believe it was the right time, she knew it was a mistake. Marissa was
finally in their shoes, she finally understood. Being pro choice is supporting legal abortions, but it is
also protecting women s right to choose. Pro choice advocates believe there is nothing wrong with
ladies getting to choose to keep their unborn baby or not, and there is nothing wrong with choosing to
go through with an abortion. People should become pro choice advocates because a woman should
decide her reproductive health care, have access to birth control and emergency contraceptives, and
although it s believed abortions are dangerous, having abortions is safer than giving birth.
People should become pro choice advocates because the reproductive

In Canton, Ohio on January 5,1969 Brian Hugh Warner was born. His parents being Hugh and Barb
Warner. Brain was raised in a Catholic home. The main kickstarter to his rebellious attitude had come
from being molested by his neighbor, brain had used his rebellion to try and forget the trama of what
had happened to him.
Soon after he was expelled from his private Christan school in Canton, his family was forced to move
to Fort Lauderdale, FL. After graduating high school, Brian attended a local community college called
Broward. At the college, Brian studied journalism and theater. Brian put together and formed a band

album titled Holy Wood , the album reached number 13 on the billboard chart. The story of the album
was that the Anti Christ (Manson himself) telling what would happened in the future. This album had
no Glam Rock whatsoever. It was one of Manson s must harsh album yet. One of the downfalls of the
album was Manson s and Twiggy Marz s differences. Because there were so many differences, Marz
was forced to leave the band.
The band s fifth studio album titled The Golden Age Of Grotesque was release in 2003. It was claimed
the best album of the year. The album was at the top of the charts for an entire week. Manson goal for

Their Eye s Were Watching God- Janie s Self Realization
Janie s Self Realization: Facts and Disputes Janie, in Their Eyes were Watching God by Zora Neale
Hurston, was a unique individual; as a half white, half black girl growing up in Florida in the early
1930 s, a lifetime of trials and search for understanding was set for her from the start. As the main
character she sought to finally find herself, true love, and have a meaningful life. Growing up, in
itself, provides a perfect opportunity for finding that essential state of self realization and ideal
comfort. Michael G. Cooke reviews Their Eyes Were Watching God in his article The Beginnings of
Self Realization ; within the article it is falsely criticized that every time Janie is negatively impacted

Jody told her to dress up and stand in the store all that evening (Hurston 58). That must ve been Jody
Starks most said command to Janie throughout her marriage. He only used her because she was so
pretty, and didn t want much more. Being proud of Janie as his wife, the mayor s pretty wife, he
himself built the image for Janie as trophy wife . Becoming an image herself looking in the mirror was
an obvious and physical change seen in the story. Ah ain t been sleepin so good for more n uh week
cause Ah been wishin so bad tuh git mah hands in yo hair. It s so pretty (Hurston 124). Letting loose
her hair and Tea Cake telling her how pretty she was marked a new beginning for her and a time for a
new image. Seeing herself in a new way, the mirror and Tea Cake helped her realize that she is a
beautiful woman and she can be much better if she tried. Mirrors are always used to analyze oneself to
be pleased, or to be displeased so you can adjust. In Janie s case however, she was surprised to see
herself again and approved of her new, yet not so new self. Representing many ideas and being that
image looked upon, it s clear to say that Janie indeed has been attached herself to images as well as
becoming one herself. The imagery shown throughout the book was physically and figuratively there
with the photograph, idea of a trophy wife, and the mirror. The development of the images throughout
the story helped show Janie s progression. Being

Hurricanes And Tornadoes
Tornadoes and Hurricanes
For a start, much damage comes from hurricanes and tornadoes, but they cause tons of damage like
lifting up a house or picking up other things that are super heavy you wouldn t imagine. A tornado and
a hurricane can reach up to 5 wind speeds or 6EFs causing a house to lift up just leaving the pavement.
That s very serious and strong for a storm. These two types of storms have interesting elements, like
how much it takes to repair, how many of these storms hit each year, and the variety of sizes the
tornadoes get up to. These two types of storms are very interesting to learn about and you might want
to know a few things about them.
Beginning, I have been in a tornado and it wasn t fun, it was very scary. Firstly, tornadoes and
hurricanes cost over millions of dollars to repair for a house or a garage. A hurricane can cost up to 15
billion dollars to put into repair and tornadoes can cost up to 500 million. Secondly, according to
Hurricanes in the U.S, hurricanes killed over 1000 people and roughly 100 billion dollars in damage.

Disney s The Pastoral Symphony
Disney s Fantasia (1940) lies in a class separate from all other animations of program music. While its
initial reception was less than stellar, it has since become a standard film in home collections.
Theatrical performances, games, and many other derivatives of the brand now exist. Despite this, it
has also generated a fair amount of controversy. For example, it contains scenes that allude to Darwin
s theory of evolution, and others that display negative racial stereotypes. Yet the most controversial
scene at the movie s premiere was the animation of Beethoven s Sixth, the Pastoral Symphony. This
feature upset many classical music lovers who objected to the idea of giving Beethoven s symphony
an explicit storyline and a set of images that he did not have in mind. The Pastoral Symphony is likely
the most familiar example of program music, but most musicians and critics seem to agree that this
does not give a free pass to any form of interpretation. In the intro to Fantasia, the narrator addresses
this by cautioning the listener that the video clips were created based on the musical interpretations of
animators, not of trained musicians. From that cautionary message to articles published as recently as
this year, Fantasia remains a topic of controversy, influenced by factors such as audience familiarity
and general views on Beethoven himself. The reach of this influence is not limited to reviews of the
Pastoral Symphony feature, but rather extends to the whole

Food And The City Summary
With a growing world population of over seven billion, the high producing agriculture industry is
becoming detrimental to the environment by most commonly effecting the freshwater needs, soil
quality, air pollution, energy consumption, the loss of habitat, and the health of the consumers.
However, there is a solution to this problem that goes beyond just the nutritional facts: urban farming
and mass organic food production. Food and the City by Jennifer Cockrall King and Lentil
Underground: Renegade Farmers and the Future of Food in America by Liz Carlisle explores the
challenges and solutions to organic food production in the major cities and the midwest United States.
One solution to the unsustainable industrial agriculture system, urban ... Show more content on

The author describes a global food revolution that began years ago from New York and Paris to
London and Toronto. Consumers are becoming aware of the food they are purchasing at their local
grocery store and realizing the grocery store is just a facade. Many small time organic farms started
disappearing because of the mass producing large scale industrial farms which became possible after
the industrial revolution. Large scale industrial farms are producing food in large quantities with low
quality while polluting the earth and harming consumers because they are focused on one thing: profit.
It makes it difficult for grocery stores to say no to these industrial farms just because of how cheap
and convenient their product is. It also allows the grocery stores to supply produce year round that
normally would not be in season in a specific area. The sustainable factors and health of the
consumers and the planet were of no concern when it came to higher produce yields and lower costs
for both the conventional industrial farms and grocery stores. In 1996, industrial farms introduced
genetically modified crops to increase yields and make more profit. Since then, more than 70% of
foods produced contain genetically altered ingredients which has led to consumers being more prone
to illnesses like cancer, diabetes, and obesity. This idea from Food and the City makes me furious
because there are so many processed foods today that are hard to get away from. Mass industrial farms
and manufacturers have found ways to extend food s shelf life and alter the basic ingredients that
would normally be considered healthy. With all of the additives, who knows what the food actually is
and the harm it could do to your

Supported Employment
Supported Employment Research When it comes to working, a lot of people look at employment as
something they have to do to make money to pay bills, or as a stepping stone into a job where they can
work less but make more. At the end of the day, very rarely does someone look at employment as
something that is therapeutic, and actually proves to be good for self esteem and quality of life.
Additionally, today work is used as a therapeutic process of getting individuals with severe mental
illness (SMI) and/or substance abuse to recovery. Many Colleges, Federal agencies, and Practitioners
are now conducting studies on just how an individual with mental illness and substance abuse, with a
little bit of support, can find and keep a job that results ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The method being used in the study is to use participants from different demographics, on four very
different vocational programs to see exactly what program is a better fit for individuals with all
different types of vocational challenges. The Who Benefits From Supported Employment Study
(2011) describes the sample size as, 4 Randomized Control Trials of IPS vs usual services. All 4
studies compared a newly established IPS program with one or more well established vocational
programs. In all 4 studies, participants were recruited from mental health centers (or a psychiatric
rehabilitation agency in the Chicago Study). Participants were adults who met each state s criteria for
SMI, typically a Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (Fourth Edition) (DSM IV)
Axis I or II diagnosis plus severe and persistent impairment in psychosocial functioning. All
participants were unemployed at the time of study admission. Other common eligibility criteria
included desire for competitive work, ability and willingness to give informed consent, and absence of
significant medical conditions that would preclude working or participating in assessment interviews.
In addition, all participants were required to attend multiple research information meetings in which
the project was explained, after which they gave written informed consent to participate in the study.
All 4 studies used a similar protocol to track employment outcomes and psychiatric symptoms.
Importantly, none of the studies excluded clients on the basis of illness severity, lack of readiness,
poor job history, or other clinical factors.( Who Benefits From Supported Employment , 2011). Again,
the problem is being identified as employment while battling with substance abuse and SMI, and the

  • 2. Differences Between Gaap And Ifrs Introduction There are two distinct methods of accounting for finances in the business world. These two methods are the methods both prescribed by the U.S., which is known as the generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and that which is used by the international community known as international financial reporting standards (IFRS). GAAP is regulated by the financial accounting standards board (FASB) while IFRS is regulated by the international accounting standards board (IASB). These two methods are currently under a process which is known as convergence or harmonization so that the United States will eventually become integrated into the global community (Miller, S. E. 2009). This will cause financial statements to be more usable for more people across the globe as well as enhance citizens of the U.S. s ability to perform business more efficiently internationally. Principles Versus Rules Based Methods There are many challenges and hurdles to overcome in order to achieve harmonization between GAAP and IFRS. The differences are widespread. Most importantly and fundamentally GAAP is considered to be more rules based, while principalities are largely what guide the users of IFRS. GAAP Regulations are more detailed, specific and voluminous. Conversely, IFRS regulations are less voluminous and make allowance for more exceptions. As an example IFRS allows the reversal of a write down after the fact while GAAP that when a write down is taken then it is irreversible. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Theme Of Social Class In The Great Gatsby Social Class is defined as a division of society based on social and economic status. Social Class in today s society determines popularity and reputation. Life s great opportunities come easier for people higher on the social class ladder. Some people are born into a higher social ranking than others. These people have it made for the rest of their lives. They really don t have to work for anything. For one who is not as fortunate, is it possible for them to climb to the high end of the social ladder? One would think so. As literature and real life examples show that it is most definitely possible. People don t usually agree with the Rags to Riches concept because of how hard it is to go up a social ranking. Which is completely understandable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Which is true in terms of the Great Gatsby, and a lot of today s society. It s not always the case, though. Choice Theory Vs Reality Therapy Article Review and Critique Choice Theory may be applied to a wide array of persons and conflicts, the focus is on total behavior, which is based on four interacting needs present from birth to death (Seligman Reichenberg, 2014). Choice theory and Reality therapy correlate in that they both empower people to take control of their internal and external conflicts. Furthermore, Reality Therapy initiated by William Glasser in the 1960s is particularly useful in settings such as schools, correctional institutions, and substance use treatment programs that emphasize changing behavior (Seligman Reichenberg, 2014). • 5. Analysis and Use of the Management Cycle Analysis and Use of the Management Cycle by for INTERDEPARTMENTAL MEMORANDUM DATE: May 18, 2013 TO: Fire Chief, Tinderville, Ohio SUBJECT: Analysis of the Feasibility of Adding a Second Paramedic Ambulance Unit EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This memorandum is provided in response to your request for an analysis of the feasibility of adding a second paramedic ambulance unit (PAU) for the City of Tinderville using the six components of the fire service management cycle. The memorandum provides a review of the relevant literature concerning the respective advantages and disadvantages of this addition, followed by the rationale in support of its adoption. REVIEW AND ANALYSIS Planning. An indicator of quality emergency medical services care is measured by how frequently the PAU achieves a 4 minute response time (Pons, Haukoos, Bludworth, Cribley Markovich, 2008). Although an 8 minute response time is followed by many communities, this guideline has not been shown to substantively improve patient outcomes; however, a survival benefit has been identified when the response time was within 4 minutes for patients with intermediate or high risk of mortality (Pons et al., 2008). Organizing. On the one hand, the use of PAUs as addition to the emergency department extends the reach of medical facilities, including mobile coronary care without sacrificing normal control systems (Gee, 2007). On the other hand, though, a study of a community with a comparable population and demographics ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Lincoln In The Bardo The novel Lincoln in The Bardo by George Saunders is labeled as a work of historical fiction on its copyright page. However this book has many aspects of a biographical novel in it. While William Lincoln is only one of the main characters the focus is on the importance for both him and his father to move on from the tragedy of William s death. Biographical novels use historical figures to tell a truth about society today and in some cases (usually children and teen forms) emotional truth. In Lincoln in The Bardo the main focus of the novel is the idea of moving on from tragedy. In the end of the novel there is also a small amount of focus on the idea of understanding another person and what they have gone through. The novel is a blend of historical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... President Lincoln did go to William s grave to grieve, but we do not have the proof of him holding William. In chapter XX of Lincoln in The Bardo President Lincoln is told to have held William s body for almost ten minutes by the three main narrators Hans Vollman, Roger Bevins III, and the Reverend Everly Thomas (58 Saunders). And this is what the novel is about. Learning to work through one s grief by letting go and finding better ways to cope. In the novel William is stuck in the bardo, which is defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary as the intermediate or astral state of the soul after death and before rebirth a sort of ghostly limbo. Hans Vollman and Roger Bevins III are also going through heavy denial about their deaths, which keeps them from moving on as well. They have been dead long enough and have convinced each other of the fact that they are just sick in their sick boxes. It is in William Lincoln though that we really see how good it is for these characters to move on. William in trying to stay in the graveyard in this bardo state, declines in spirit health. On page 195 the Reverend Everly Thomas describes William in this manner as real as the fading, webbed boy breathing shallowly at my feet, banded down snugly across his chest like a captive of the wild Indians. The reader had been warned at the beginning of the novel at how terrible it is for children to stay in the bardo for long. William is choosing to stay stuck in this place of limbo because he not only does not understand where he is, but his father also told William s remains that they would be back. The other spirits know that for children it is better for them to move on to the unknown and try to encourage him to it. William was almost convinced to move on until President Lincoln visited his body and held it. He refuses to leave when there is still the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Aristotle s View Of Ownership Everyone has a different view of what ownership is, and what it does to a person. For many, owning something is thought of as possessing a physical object that can be called yours, though it can be much more. Plato says that the idea and act of owning anything is harmful to someone as a person. Aristotle has a brighter outlook, saying that the act of owning something is beneficial to a person. While Sartre claims that the idea of ownership goes beyond simply having an object, and can apply to things that don t actually exist. While all of these views are valid, with each being able to hold it s own ground, it is up to the listener of the three to figure out and justify which applies best to them. Support 1: Plato say s that the sense of owning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He says that someone can own more than physical objects. That people can own a skill, or idea along side physical things, never saying what this does to a person. This thought of being able to own idea s can be easily seen in copyright and patents, where a persons pays for their idea to not be legally used by others. To put it simply, Sartre s idea of ownership has become law in many countries. Now, people can actually own their ideas, making it so that only they may use them and profit off of them. Looping back to Plato, this can sadly need to greed, with people making ridiculous copyright strikes for the smallest of things, or inflating the price of something that is in actuality very cheap. Though, going to Aristotle, plenty of good has also come out of this system. Sartre s idea also goes into the perception of owning something, saying that, ...becoming proficient in some skill and knowing something thoroughly means that we own it. This is saying that a skill can also be seen as a possession that is gaged off of how well a person feels they know something. This, or course, cannot actually be measured, as it is simply the perception of a person s own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Jealousy in Shakespeare´s Othello Essay Jealousy is a powerful emotion that can blind oneself from identifying the truth. Shakespeare heavily emphasizes this theme throughout the drama Othello, especially through the actions of characters. In the play the heinous antagonist, Iago, uses each character s jealousy to deceive that person and manipulate the truth. His false promises and deceitfulness bring to the demise of many of the main characters in the play, including the protagonist, Othello. Othello could not have been deceived if it were not for his powerful jealousy. Therefore, Shakespeare is telling us that jealousy is an ugly trait that can hide the truth, which in turn causes many problems between characters in the play. The play opens with Roderigo and Iago standing in a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the quarrel, Iago reveals to the reader that he intends to use the fact that Casillo and Desdemona will be spending more time together, in order for Casillo to get his job back, to convince Othello that she is having an affair (1220). Othello is an easy target in this drama, because Iago already knows that he is a very insecure person. With that stated, it will be easy for Iago to use Othello s jealousy to trick him into thinking that Desdemona is an unfaithful wife. Iago will manipulate the way Othello sees things in order to convince him that what he sees is innocent acts between Desdemona and Casillo. Iago s starts to plant the idea in Othello s head of an affair after Othello sees Casillo rush leaving Desdemona in a manner that looked as though he is guilty (1223). Alone with Othello, Iago begins to make Othello feel threatened by Casillo and Desdemona s apparent relationship by bringing up the fact that Casillo served as Desdemona s and Othello s go between during the time of their courtship. The conversation ends with Iago asking Othello to watch carefully of Desdemona and Casillo, and Iago exits giving Othello time to question the accusation of Iago (1225 1228). Othello s insecurities are brought to surface as Othello announces, to only the audience, his thoughts. • 10. Historical Context and Performance Reflection of Ocean Alley Ocean Alley is an ensemble consisting of 6 musicians (guitarist/vocalist, lead guitarist, rhythm guitarist, bassist, keyboardist and drummer), which was established in 2010 on the Northern Beaches, Sydney. Ocean Alley is currently touring various local pubs around Sydney and is also going to begin recording its next EP as of next month. The band encompasses elements of natural, beat driven reggae as well as various components of psychedelic rock through a large number of inspirations(Alley). This has given the band a highly diverse, unique sound of psychedelic rock/reggae fusion(Alley). This review will examine the historical context in which this band has grown from as well as the textural and structural characteristics in its live performance, as well as in comparison to its studio recordings. It will focus on the compositions of Yellow Mellow and Freedom Lover to highlight how the use of texture, density and the fusion of two genres can create a highly distinctive sound that sets them apart from other ensembles. One of the main genres that Ocean Alley has embraced is reggae. Reggae is a specific genre created in Jamaica, formed through heavy rhythmical elements where the rhythm guitar can almost be seen as a percussion instrument on its own through the use of the expressive technique known as staccato. This, in combination with distinctive drum and bass rhythmic structures, as well as a particular chord structure has created a genre that has combined elements of funk, ... A thigh and calf circumference was conducted by tape measurements for the pre marked sites that was distinguished before the exercise started. Then a maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) of knee extension and plantar flexion was assessed using an isokinetic dynamometer, and finally, blood samples were taken by using the antecubital vein to determine different components of blood with serum and plasma samples obtained by a centrifugation. As discussed in the article, all of these tests, combined with other components, were used to help each author in the article shed light on the idea that compression tights can cause a difference during prolonged running (120 minutes or more) in dealing with the decrease or reduction in muscle damage markers in the blood. The researchers in this study used different means of measurement to gather information on different aspects of the study. One thing the researchers did was use three different locations for the ... • 12. Checks and Balances Checks and Balances. Checks and balances is a system that is a part of out U.S. Constitution. This system was put in to place so that no part of government would have too much power. The three branches: judicial, legislative and executive are constantly granting and checking the other branches actions, this is to make sure no one person can gain an excessive amount of control in government. For example according to , the legislative branch is in charge of making laws. The executive branch can veto the law, thus making it harder for the legislative branch to pass the law. The judicial branch may also say that the law is unconstitutional and thus make sure it is not a law.The legislative branch can also remove a president or judge that is not doing his/her job properly. The executive branch appoints judges and the legislative branch approves the choice of the executive branch. Again, the branches check and balance each other so that no one branch has too much power . In Fahrenheit 451, people become so consumed with gaining the newest in technology. Montag s wife asks him for a new TV, even though they had just gotten their third one not that much earlier. With people so focused on buying more and more, by influencing what is available, the people can be controlled. In an effort to please every minority, books are outlawed. Leonard Mead, one of the last writers, is the only person in his entire city to go for walks. He is also the only person who seems at peace with himself, and is not inside watching TV. He also reveals that books stopped selling, which again alludes to the fact that the people themselves led to their loss of individuality. In Kaleidoscope, materialism is also exposed. One of the other astronauts that are launched into the vacuum of space has multiple houses on multiple planets, and also has several wives. He goes on and talks about it a little, until Morris interrupts him saying, I m not jealous of you anymore, because it s over for you as it is for me, and right now it s like it never happened (Bradbury 34). By him saying this, he rejects Lespere s materialistic ways, and proves that he himself had thought in the same way. Yet now, he sees the faults of this thinking. This exposure of materialism in all three texts shows that it also plays a role in the loss of individuality. It has been a topic of debate since the mid 1940s when the first nuclear bombs were being produced for war under the United States Manhattan Project, and since then has received varied attention throughout the years. In its simplest form, there is concern that the same technologies that are being used to produce nuclear power, may also be able to allow access to nuclear weapons in the process. Essay on Hector as the Ideal Homeric Man of Homer s Iliad Hector as the Ideal Homeric Man of Homer s Iliad Homer s Iliad enthralls readers with its valiant heroes who fight for the glory of Greece. The Iliad, however, is not just a story of war; it is also a story of individuals. Through the characters words and actions, Homer paints portraits of petulant Achilles and vain Agamemnon, doomed Paris and Helen, loyal Patroclus, tragic Priam, versatile Odysseus, and the whole cast of Gods. Ironically, the most complete character in the epic is Hector, enemy hero, and Prince of Troy. Hector is in many ways the ideal Homeric man: he is a man of compassion and piety, a man of integrity and bravery, a man who loves his family, and above all, a man who understands and fulfills his social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Had Agamemnon demonstrated the same sort of compassion towards the supplicant Chryses, the Greeks would have been spared the wrath of Apollo. Hector s compassion and his respect for the gods, engenders the trust and respect of his people, and makes him an ideal leader. Hector continues on to the palace, where he is embraced by his mother Hecuba, who offers him wine with which to refresh himself and to honor the Gods. Hector politely answers, Mother, not now I d lose my nerve for war. And I d be ashamed to pour a glistening cup to Zeus with unwashed hands. I m splattered with blood and filth how could I pray to the lord of storm and lightning? (VI, 179 183). He then recommends that his mother go with offerings to Athena s shrine to make sacrifices for the success of the Trojans. Hector s respectful address to his mother, his humility before the Gods and his understanding of the appropriate forms of supplication, stand in sharp contrast to Achilles earlier whining and self serving demands made to Thetis. Once again, in the matter of piety as well as compassion, Hector is the superior man. Nowhere in the Iliad is Hector s superiority more obvious than when he is contrasted with his brother Paris, the man who bears the sole responsibility for the chaos and terror that engulfs Troy. Hector finds Paris polishing (and) fondling his splendid battle gear, his shield and breastplate, turning over and over his long curved bow (VI, 243 245). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Now based on the millions of people on this earth, this assumption is not one to be proud of. Day by day and year by year medical advancements have been in affect and so far helping decrease the number of deadly cases of disease. Recently researchers have made a major breakthrough in the field of medicine. Technology has become so advanced that physicians are able to detect disease present in genes inside a fetus before it is completely developed. Because they are now able to identify the gene, it brings up a whole new topic of altering specific genes upon our children to physically enhance them. In most cases, parents would choose to enhance these genes to have athletic or musically talented child. Now whether you think this is ethical or not is up to you however, I will be evaluating three articles on this topic and presenting the argument for each one. • 19. Prayer Is The Most Essential Of Spiritual Growth One of the most difficult questions a Christian is often asked is where they are in their spiritual journey. Celebration of Discipline helps us understand the important aspects that help deepen our faith. Foster writes that there are three categories of disciplines me must learn: inward, outward, and corporate. Each category has four subcategories. I believe that prayer, service, and worship are the most essential in spiritual growth. The first category Foster writes about is inward discipline. Inward discipline is an act that other believes cannot measure. Inward disciplines are personal to your relationship with God. The four types of inward disciplines are meditation, prayer, fasting, and study. Although they are all important, I think that prayer is the most beneficial. The discipline of prayer brings us into the deepest work of the human spirit (Page 33). Prayer is the key to God transforming us. As we learn to pray, we learn that our will eventually molds to His will. I have been hearing a lot of messages lately about the Lord s Prayer. When we say Thy will be done we are not asking God to give us what we want, we are asking God to transform what we want to become what He wants. Prayer is something that we should center our daily lives around. When we begin to prayer God meets us where we are, no matter how far along we are in our journey. God uses prayer to push us deeper into who He is. Sometimes prayer can be frustrating because we do not feel like our prayers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Despite this, it has also generated a fair amount of controversy. For example, it contains scenes that allude to Darwin s theory of evolution, and others that display negative racial stereotypes. Yet the most controversial scene at the movie s premiere was the animation of Beethoven s Sixth, the Pastoral Symphony. This feature upset many classical music lovers who objected to the idea of giving Beethoven s symphony an explicit storyline and a set of images that he did not have in mind. The Pastoral Symphony is likely the most familiar example of program music, but most musicians and critics seem to agree that this does not give a free pass to any form of interpretation. In the intro to Fantasia, the narrator addresses this by cautioning the listener that the video clips were created based on the musical interpretations of animators, not of trained musicians. From that cautionary message to articles published as recently as this year, Fantasia remains a topic of controversy, influenced by factors such as audience familiarity and general views on Beethoven himself. The reach of this influence is not limited to reviews of the Pastoral Symphony feature, but rather extends to the whole ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Food And The City Summary With a growing world population of over seven billion, the high producing agriculture industry is becoming detrimental to the environment by most commonly effecting the freshwater needs, soil quality, air pollution, energy consumption, the loss of habitat, and the health of the consumers. However, there is a solution to this problem that goes beyond just the nutritional facts: urban farming and mass organic food production. Food and the City by Jennifer Cockrall King and Lentil Underground: Renegade Farmers and the Future of Food in America by Liz Carlisle explores the challenges and solutions to organic food production in the major cities and the midwest United States. One solution to the unsustainable industrial agriculture system, urban ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author describes a global food revolution that began years ago from New York and Paris to London and Toronto. Consumers are becoming aware of the food they are purchasing at their local grocery store and realizing the grocery store is just a facade. Many small time organic farms started disappearing because of the mass producing large scale industrial farms which became possible after the industrial revolution. Large scale industrial farms are producing food in large quantities with low quality while polluting the earth and harming consumers because they are focused on one thing: profit. It makes it difficult for grocery stores to say no to these industrial farms just because of how cheap and convenient their product is. It also allows the grocery stores to supply produce year round that normally would not be in season in a specific area. The sustainable factors and health of the consumers and the planet were of no concern when it came to higher produce yields and lower costs for both the conventional industrial farms and grocery stores. In 1996, industrial farms introduced genetically modified crops to increase yields and make more profit. Since then, more than 70% of foods produced contain genetically altered ingredients which has led to consumers being more prone to illnesses like cancer, diabetes, and obesity. This idea from Food and the City makes me furious because there are so many processed foods today that are hard to get away from. Mass industrial farms and manufacturers have found ways to extend food s shelf life and alter the basic ingredients that would normally be considered healthy. With all of the additives, who knows what the food actually is and the harm it could do to your ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Supported Employment Supported Employment Research When it comes to working, a lot of people look at employment as something they have to do to make money to pay bills, or as a stepping stone into a job where they can work less but make more. At the end of the day, very rarely does someone look at employment as something that is therapeutic, and actually proves to be good for self esteem and quality of life. Additionally, today work is used as a therapeutic process of getting individuals with severe mental illness (SMI) and/or substance abuse to recovery. Many Colleges, Federal agencies, and Practitioners are now conducting studies on just how an individual with mental illness and substance abuse, with a little bit of support, can find and keep a job that results ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The method being used in the study is to use participants from different demographics, on four very different vocational programs to see exactly what program is a better fit for individuals with all different types of vocational challenges. The Who Benefits From Supported Employment Study (2011) describes the sample size as, 4 Randomized Control Trials of IPS vs usual services. All 4 studies compared a newly established IPS program with one or more well established vocational programs. In all 4 studies, participants were recruited from mental health centers (or a psychiatric rehabilitation agency in the Chicago Study). Participants were adults who met each state s criteria for SMI, typically a Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (Fourth Edition) (DSM IV) Axis I or II diagnosis plus severe and persistent impairment in psychosocial functioning. All participants were unemployed at the time of study admission. Other common eligibility criteria included desire for competitive work, ability and willingness to give informed consent, and absence of significant medical conditions that would preclude working or participating in assessment interviews. In addition, all participants were required to attend multiple research information meetings in which the project was explained, after which they gave written informed consent to participate in the study. All 4 studies used a similar protocol to track employment outcomes and psychiatric symptoms. Importantly, none of the studies excluded clients on the basis of illness severity, lack of readiness, poor job history, or other clinical factors.( Who Benefits From Supported Employment , 2011). Again, the problem is being identified as employment while battling with substance abuse and SMI, and the Method is data analysis by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
