Meaning Of The Movie Big Fish
In the movie Big Fish quotes are very important to the meaning of the movie and the motivation
for the quotes being included. The first quote I chose is, The truth is, I didn t see anything of
myself in my father. And I don t think he saw anything of himself in me. This quotes meaning to
the movie was that Edward And Will have a bad relationship, they do not have that close father
son relationship that they should have. He does not see that connection of I want to be just like
my dad or any kind of connection in general. They went without talking or seeing each other for
three and that is not normal for a dad and son. A lot of people in real life have bad relationship
with their parents and that is sad. The second quote that I chose to explain

What Is A Man For All Seasons
A man for all seasons, in that short phrase one man s character and merit, are heightened to unseen
levels. The film A Man for All Seasons directed by Fred Zinnemann and written by Robert Bolt
does a phenomenal job at depicting the history of the 16th century. More specifically the quarrel
between Thomas Moreand King Henry VIII. The evaluation I prepared goes over movies purpose,
is it biased, historical accuracy, movie s message, actors in relation to the film, and if the movie
is a by product of its time. This movie can be looked at many different ways as the event itself was
complicated. However, these questions or topics bring out the what is most impactful in a film; my
opinion of course.
The films, actors and actress play a huge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Going in one would need some background knowledge to really make sense of it all. In regards
to balance between Henry VIII and Thomas More, I strongly believe it was kept unbiased and
told from a historical standpoint. In that aspect, history does support their conclusion. The
movie may have left or altered some parts here and there, but the overall movie was accurate.
From the way, they captured how King Henry VIII would use his chief ministers to forward
political gain and the anger that came with them failing or disagreeing. The historical accuracy
with the character of history was on point as well. Characters such as Mr. Rich, his greed, and
need to rise in politics, King Henry s charm, beauty, and temper, and Thomas More s morality and
need to stay true to one s self. There s much more going on but these can be seen as the most

Research Plan on Palm Oil Destruction Essay examples
My idea was to make a video of some sort, some kind of an educational video. I decided that my
area of interaction would be Environment. I narrowed it down to two topics which were : Palm
Oil Destruction and China Pollution. I already knew quite a lot about both of the topics, but I
decided to go with a topic that affects us and the world. Therefore, I chose Palm OilDestruction
which affects us in many ways. I will make a video about an environmental issue and post it on
Youtube, to gain awareness and to learn more about this topic, those are my goals. Palm is one of
the largest on going environmental disasters currently. (Care2) A massive force that is pushing

I planned to reach my goal by keeping in mind the specifications I had set out to achieve. I
focused on one topic the whole time which was Environmental harm that Palm Oil was causing.
I also have to meet all my due dates and not procrastinate. First step was to get all the research
done. I had some great sources that combined really well to form the whole outline of my video
as well as the body of the video. I then started making my video which took me some time as I
was working with a new program. I also ran into some problems but I was still able to meet my
due date. Since I am not a tech person my video didn t turn out amazing or anything but it had all
the important information so I think the viewer understood the message. My other goal was to
cover every aspect of palm oil such as; how it affects the environment, and how it affects people.
My main specifications are: to meet all my due dates I set out for myself, find well rounded
information on Palm oil and create a video that has all the information I that covers everything.
Selection of Sources: I used 8 different sources that each focused on a different aspect of Palm
Oil. Source A was by far my favorite source it had all the information and it was organized very
well. I used that as my outline for my video, I just added more information from other sources.
Some sources had lots of

The Effect Of Concentration On The Rate Of Reaction By...
The hypothesis of this experiment was that an increase in concentration will increase the rate of
reaction by decreasing the time taken for the colour change to occur. Figure 1.1 shows time on the
x axis and concentration on the y axis, it can be seen that as [reactant] decreases, time
increases. Thus, the results correlate with the hypothesis that an increase in concentration will
produce a faster reaction time and subsequently a larger reaction rateregardless of change in [KIO3]
or [Na2S2O5], both reactants produce the same result.
The second part of the hypothesis was that an increase in [B] and decrease in [A] will still
increase the overall rate of reaction, however it will cause a slow spread of colour compared to
a rapid colour change. This wasn t specifically recorded by timing, however, it was noted on the
9/5/16 that when lower concentrations of KIO3 were tested, there was a slow spread of colour.
On the 13/5/16, when testing Na2S2O5, there was no vast change in colour spread time.
Though, all the concentrations tested of Na2S2O5 were fairly similar. If, for example, 1M
Na2s2O5 was tested against 0.1M KIO3, the reaction would definitely occur quickly, however,
the spread of colour could be slow since a large quantity of I2 has been used up to cancel the
significantly larger amount of HSO3 ions. For what has been observed, the second part of the
hypothesis is plausible. Though, this is an area of investigation which needs to be further
investigated to be

Introduction And Design Of The Study
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION AND DESIGN OF THE STUDY
1.1Introduction
Over the last few decades information technology has played an important role in Indian
economy. It has affected all the industries especially the banking industry and has provided a way
for the banks to differentiate their products and services. The traditional way of financial services
delivered to customers called the branch based operations which had been used by the banks for
more than 200 years, has been replaced by the advent of multiple technologies and application. For
instance, Automated Teller Machine (ATM) displaced cashier tellers, telephone represented by call
centers replaced the bank branch, the internet replaced mail, credit cards and electronic cash
replaced bank transactions. The reason was the numerous key advantages that banks could gain by
providing electronic banking services. In this way they had lower transactions cost, 24 hour
trading, more extended business territory and also increased efficiency in daily banking process.
The Banking Sector is also facing very stiff competition. In order to succeed such competition, they
must offer a wide array of products with the latest technology. At present many banks and financial
institutions are actively developing new electronic banking products for their customers throughout
the world (Alagheband 2006) . The key players of banking industry are its customers and all the
efforts made by the banks are to satisfy the desirable needs of

Examine some of the key principles of the argument for the existence of God based upon religious
experiences
Religious experiences are experiences we have of the divine or God. These experiences may be
Mystical experiences, conversion experiences or revelatory experiences. Paul Tillich states that
religious experience is a feeling of ultimate concern , a feeling that demands a decisive decision
from the one receiving it. He describes it as an encounter followed by a special understanding of its
religious significance.
The argument for religious experiences is based on 3 premises. Premise one states that the
experience of X indicates the reality of X. One problem with this premise is that the experience of
X does not always indicate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problems with premise three can also be highlighted by looking at the religious experience of
Mosses when he saw God in the burning bush. When God came to him, Mosses had just killed a
man and run away into the desert. Therefore he could be experiencing extreme guilt which could
cause him to have an illusion. Also if he is in the desert then he was most likely dehydrated which
again could cause an illusion. Therefore other factors may be used to explain religious experiences.
Another example to support premise three, and one that addresses the problem of the subjective
nature of religious experiences, is corporate religious experiences. This is when large numbers of
people all have the same religious experience at the same time. The fact that they are experienced
by many leads to the fact that they can be objectively tested and the accounts validated adding
further support for the argument.
Those that argue that religious experiences are proof of the existence of God usually argue
inductively. This means that they look at the subjective testimonies of individuals who claim to
have had religious experiences in order to find similar characteristics and then draw the general
conclusion that the experiences can only be explained in terms of the existence of God. For
example Swinburne argued inductively supporting

African American Oral History Summary
Barbara Cooper argues that the gap between African historians and the general field of historians is
derived from the many debates surrounding the legitimacy of oral sources as a tool of
understanding the evolution and development of Africa and its past. As a result of this, the exciting
developments occurring within African history have been ...rendered unintelligible to academic
historians in general (Cooper 211) as the methodological research that Africanists put into
acquiring and using oral sources are overlooked and ignored. She encourages other historians to
utilize this research and for African history scholars to do their part as well by participating in
conversations with other historians and debates to bring their work to light. All in the hopes that
African history becomes relevant and exciting to a larger audience including historians outside the

Oral history is described by Cooper, as personal reminiscence (Cooper 192) that is gathered by the
researcher through an interview format. It can focus on the life; specific events or memories of the
person being interviewed or specific moments that the interviewer wants to focus on. Secondly, oral
tradition is seen as stories about the past that local populations produce and reproduce through oral
performative transmissions, as a means of preserving their history and consolidating or contesting a
sense of belonging and identity (Cooper 192). Cooper highlights two different critiques of oral
traditions, the first one being the structuralist critique. Structuralists argue that oral traditions are
more symbolic and universal than historical and literal (Cooper 195). On the other hand, the
presentist critique argues that oral traditions only function to reproduce existing structures which
only tells us about the present, not the

Online Shopping Disadvantages
Many of people do their shopping online because it is convenient, cost effective, and offers more
selection of products rather than going into a physical brick and mortar store. Seemingly, the only
downside is the shipping time, but the real cost is that it is gradually killing off local businesses
such as the mom and pop shops, department stores, and also shopping malls. These physical stores
provide tax base and jobs within their communities. Online retailers largely have minimal overhead,
and drive prices down lower than what most brick and mortar stores can bare. Online sales have
many economic benefits that brick and mortar stores don t have, which has created an environment
where online entities thrive while unintentionally causing their brick and mortar counterparts to fail
in many cases.
Online retail shopping has grown dramatically over the past years; more and more, people are
relying on their fingertips to do the shopping rather than using their legs. Barbara Mantel, a writer
for the CQ Research states that, online shopping has grown fourfold since 2002 and now accounts
for about 10 percent of discretionary retail spending in the United States. (par. 1). If people continue
shop online, it will continue the pressure on and tension between brick and mortar and online
stores, resulting in more failures of brick and mortar stores. An example of this growth is that the
number of consumers spent shopping with their smartphones jumped 385 percent between
February 2010 and February 2013 says Mantel. (par. 14). This number is proving that online
retailers are gaining momentum, whereas the mom and pop shops are declining.
Many stores are already feeling the effects of online shopping. Big department stores like Sears,
Kmart, Macy s, and J.C. Penney have filed bankruptcy. According to The Independent, about 300
retail businesses went bust just between January and June of this year. Online shopping isn t the
only reason that they re closing down, but it does play a significant role in their closing. The reason
why these stores are closing down is that they just cannot compete with online shopping because
they don t have reasonable revenue for brick and mortar stores to compete with these monstrous

Economic Power In Imperial China
Economic Power
One of the main reasons China has a boost in soft power mentioned in the previous paragraph, as
Joseph Nye said, is the significant rise of economic power, which is also one of the key
elements of the Chinese Dream. Considering the economic history of imperial China, there are
several strong points. Start from the earliest, the Han Dynasty (206 BC AD 220), which has a
massive urbanization, huge population growth, stable currency and very importantly, the open up
of Silk Road. These allowed commercial activities developed in a rapid rate at that time, and
enabled the trade with Europe through the Silk Road. Han achieved a very high level of gross
domestic product at that time, which was roughly equals to $450 per capita in 1990 s US dollar.
Move forward to the Tang Dynasty (618 907), another golden period of Chinese history, which has
recovered from the long period of wars, with the population surpassing the Han Dynasty. China
enjoyed a long peaceful period of economic development since the Emperor Taizong of Tang, one
of the greatest emperors in Chinese history. Taizong regulated the market, and more importantly the
taxation system; he set various standards of price and quality of certain goods, and left the market
to the people.

can be related to the efforts that the Chinese government put to stabilize and strengthen Yuan. Silk

Song Dynasty matches with how the Chinese government value science and technology. These are
all elements that are included in Xi s Chinese Dream, which China wanted and tried to

Comparing Power In Three Years She Grew And The Sound Of...
Most relate power to such things as conformity or subordination. Nature is thought to be pure and
everlasting, but it doesn t seem to make people think of it as powerful. Certain poems such as
Three Years She Grew by William Wordsworth, There Will Come Soft Rains by Sara Teasdale, and
The Sound of Night by Maxine Kumin, explain the relationship between nature and other forces
like mankind. These poems contain instances of power between nature and mankind. In order to
create the power struggle, the authors use tone, mood, and form to their advantage. Tone, mood,
and form influence how power affects the relationship between nature and mankind. Three Years

This poem explains that both nature and humans are equally struggling. Kumin writes, Birds
huggermugger crowd the trees,/ the air thick with their vesper of cries. The birds are crowded in
their space. They continue to make a lot of noise disturbing the night. On the other hand, the
humans, And now on the narrow beach we defend ourselves from dark... and lie in our blankets
/ while night knickers around us (Kumin). The humans are struggling as well. They are sitting
around trying to get through the night. The night proceeds to be set as eerie, Now every voice of
the hour the known, the supposed, the strange,/ the mindless, the witted, the never seen / sing,
thrum, impinge, and rearrange/ endlessly (Kumin). The different types of voices described make
the reader wonder why these voices seem to make them feel uncomfortable. The humans and nature
are both shown to be similar in that one is no better than the other. They both have equivalent
problems and feelings. The relationship of power between nature and human beings is influenced
by tone, mood, and form. Humans and nature compare and contrast in interesting ways. Some
authors believe, as shown in their writing, that nature is the more powerful component in the
relationship, but others disagree. Nature and human beings have a relationship that can be defined
in many different ways. Poems Three Years She Grew by William Wordsworth

Rhetorical Analysis Of Thomas Paine s The Crisis No. 1
Salema: The Crisis No. 1 is a 16 pamphlet series written by Thomas Paine in December of 1776
(Paine 86). It was a rather successful piece that argued for independence from England and
described the difficulties faced by the colonists because of Britain s tyranny. Paine was mostly
targeting the American patriots and trying to influence them to come together and fight for their
independence. He also included his idea of the colonies being free from British rule. Through his
strong use of tone and figurative language, he got the colonists to picture a tyranny free country.
There are many uses of rhetoric in The Crisis No. 1 . Paine uses a plentiful amount of logos in this
essay. He uses it to explain logically that the colonies would thrive if they were free from British
rule. He pairs his use of logos with lots of pathos. He tries to get the American patriots upset with
the British in order for them to be more willing to fight against them. For example, he uses
pathos when telling the story of the Tory tavern keeper who made a so called ignorant statement
in front of his child. The tone he used when speaking about the tavern keeper seemed almost
furious! The impact of his use of tone leaves the reader appalled. Similarly, he also uses pathos
when he equates offensive war to murder; ...I believe, could have induced me to support an
offensive war, for I think it murder... (Paine 90).
In conclusion, The Crisis No. 1 influenced many ideas in the American Revolution,

HPV: A Cause for Concern
1.Introduction
Human papillomavirus or HPV is one of the most common viruses that are transmitted through
sexual activity. A virus is sometimes referred to an obligate intracellular parasite, which cannot
multiply outside of a living cell. Transmission can occur through hand to hand contact, exposure to
contaminated blood, and shared objects. Typical exposure is achieved through skin to skin contact
during intercourse. HPV can pass from person to person with no signs or symptoms. Development
of symptoms can occur years after initial infection. Many cases of HPV can clear up on their own.

Detections methods have improved over the years for identification with the use of swabs from
cutaneous epithelium or plucked hairs. These methods primarily identify beta and gamma types of
viruses. Most infected individuals eliminate the virus without developing clinical manifestations.
Closely related types of virus can show distinct pathologies in HPV. While their genetic
sequences can be similar, their pathologies and virulence can be different. HPV six and eleven
share 85% sequence identity. HPV six is found in anogenital warts while HPV eleven is primarily
responsible for laryngeal papillomas. HPV thirteen shares a 78% likeness with both HPV six and
eleven but doesn t cause the same pathologies. HPV seven and forty have an 87% resemblance in
sequence and both cause butchers warts.
3.Structure and Function
HPV is a non enveloped virus with double stranded DNA that is protected by an icosahedral capsid.
An icosahedral is a polyhedral with twenty faces. The genome consists of double stranded circles
with approximately eight thousand base pairs containing eight or nine open reading frames. Gene
expression involves multiple promoters and complex patterns of splicing. The HPV genome
separates into three regions; the long control region, early region, and a late region. The early
region contains no coding for structural proteins in

Postnatal Massage Therapy Research Paper

Some pregnant mothers experience an easy birth while others go through a prolonged and difficult
process with many hours of labour. One thing is absolutely for certain, after the delivery process,
new mothers are tired or even exhausted. And then having to breastfeed and nurse a newborn
several times per night can add to the exhaustion.

and help to reduce weight. Post natal massage is usually done within the privacy of one s home.
For a mother who has delivered her baby naturally, it is generally considered safe to go proceed
with postnatal massage. For those that delivered by caesarean, be sure to consult with your doctor

Redemption In The Scarlett Letter
Have you ever been shamed for something you did wrong? How d it feel? Now imagine being
shamed in front of a whole town of people. How do you think that would feel? This is exactly
what Hester Prynne went through in The Scarlet Letter. It s also what I will go through soon. I
think that wearing a Scarlet letter would force me to realize that my sin can only hurt me in the
long run so I need to work on it. That way I can have redemption and be allowed to remove my
Scarlet letter. I want to tell you a little more about Hester Prynnes experience, public shaming, and
my personal experience, and I hope that you ll learn something. In the beginning of the book Hester

We may not realize we do, but it still happens. We do this by publicizing criminals on the news
and in newspapers; we talk about people on the internet and on television. I m positive we don t
mean any harm, but that doesn t stop it from hurting. Some people don t get over things like this
and broadcasting it will not help anyone. Take children for example, their childhood memories
will stick with them and publicly humiliating them will let them know that it s okay to do that to
their kids and even other people. You never, ever humiliate your child publicly, psychologist Dr.
Phil McGraw told TODAY s Matt Lauer. You re supposed to be the adult, the calm in the middle
of the storm, where you say, OK, you choose the behavior, you choose the consequences. But this
consequence was pretty radical. (Leigh Hewett: Public Humiliation as a Punishment). This kind of
public shaming has no record of efficacy in turning someone away from crime, Peggy McGarry,
director of the Center on Sentencing and Corrections at the Vera Institute of Justice, said in an e
mail. McGarry thinks this is especially true for small town, low level offenders: In a small town or
even a small city, subjecting someone to this might cause them to lose their job or jeopardize their
chances for future employment, housing, and/or credit, and subject family members to humiliation.

Different Views On Economic Issues
There are three different groups of economists that have many different views on economic issues.
The first type of economics is Supply Side Economics, and according to Library of economics and
liberty it is a term that that is used to describe the fact that supply underlies consumption and living
standards. The second type of economicsis Demand Side Economics, and according to
Investopedia Demand Side Economics is based on a belief that the main force affecting overall
economic activity and causing short term fluctuations is consumer demand for goods and services.
The last type of economics is the Monetary Policy, which according to Federal Reserve

There are many advantages to the Supply Side Economics and the first one is Lower Taxes.
Lowering taxes is one of the main bases and ideas for the supply side economics. By having the
lowering of taxes it will provide an incentive to earn more by allowing people to keep more of their
well earned money. Also, another huge advantage of the supply side economics is that it urges
the claim that high marginal tax rates encourage individuals to shelter their money from taxes.
Also, if they were to cut tax rates investors will be able to take some extra out and invest it into
other things that will allow them to make even more money. Although, there are many
advantages to having Supply Side economics there are also many weaknesses that the policy
possesses. The first weakness is the reduction of unemployment benefits, if the economists were
to cut the tax rate then it would make it harder for those who are unable to work to get their
unemployment checks and will force them to try and find work. Cutting taxes would make life
easier for those have more, and harder for those who have less. The Supply Side Economy is
mostly a huge advantage for the rich and a huge disadvantage for the poor, because they are not
able to receive lots from unemployment due to the government not receiving lots of money in
taxes. Demand Side Economics is a belief that the consumers demand for goods and services is the
force that affects most economic actions and is the reasons for short term

Your body needs five nutrients to survive: protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Plants

Believe it or not, thistles are edible, and easy to identify. In 1870, a man named Truman Everts was

Social Class in the United States Essay
There is much debate about the issue of social class in the United States. There are arguments
about whether social classes are distinctly separate or fluid, dependent upon one s community or
society as a whole, and if they are subjective or objective (Hughes and Jenkins). However, despite
the debate surrounding social classes, it is still important to try to define them and analyze their
effects, as they are such an important part of our identity and our opportunities in society.
Although our society has tried to appear as though we have no classes, and it is becoming harder
to tell what class someone is in by material goods, classes do still exist today (Scott and
Leonhardt). The trend has been to divide the U.S. into four major... Show more content on

Despite the debates about social class, the United States is usually described as having four major
social classes, the elite or upperclass, the middle class, the working class, and the lower class
(Goldscmidt). Classes are generally differentiated by income, education, and occupation
although other factors do have an effect. The upperclass consists of about 1% of the population
making 750,000 dollars or more a year as investors, top executives, or heirs to large fortunes
(Hughes and Jenkins). There tends to be no question about who is in the upperclass as they are
pretty clearly isolated in their power and wealth. The middle class makes up about 40% of the
population making anywhere from 40,000 to 749,999 dollars a year (Hughes and Jenkins). The
large disparity in income and wealth have led to a further division of this class into upper middle
class and middle class in some circles. The middle class usually work white collar jobs as
professionals and managers, however some highly skilled blue collar workers are included.
Those in the middle class have usually obtained higher education degrees and place a high value
on individual responsibility for one s class (Goldschmidt). The working class is composed of about
50% of the population earning 13,000 to 39,000 dollars a year (Hughes and Jenkins). Some also

2008 Us Economic Recession
INTRODUCTIONS
The Global Financial Crisis of 2008 is considered by many economists to be the worst financial
crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s. It resulted in the threat of total collapse of large
financial institutions, the bailout of small and big banks by national governments, and downturns
in stock markets around the world. In United States, the housing market also suffered, resulting in
evictions, foreclosures and prolonged unemployment. The crisis played a significant role in the
failure of key businesses, declines in consumer confidence, declines in consumer wealth estimated
in trillions of US dollars, and a downturn in economic activity leading to the 2008 2012 global
recession and contributing to the European ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By September 2008, average U.S. housing prices had declined by over 20% from their mid
2006 peak. As prices declined, borrowers with adjustable rate mortgages could not refinance to
avoid the higher payments associated with rising interest rates and began to default. During
2007, lenders began foreclosure proceedings on nearly 1.3 million properties, a 79% increase
over 2006. This increased to 2.3 million in 2008, an 81% increase vs. 2007. By August 2008,
9.2% of all U.S. mortgages outstanding were either delinquent or in foreclosure. By September
2009, this had risen to 14.4%
Easy credit conditions
Lower interest rates encouraged borrowing. From 2000 to 2003, the Federal Reserve lowered
the federal funds rate target from 6.5% to 1.0%.[68] This was done to soften the effects of the
collapse of the dot com bubble and the September 2001 terrorist attacks. The Fed then raised the
Fed funds rate significantly between July 2004 and July 2006. This contributed to an increase in 1
year and 5 year adjustable rate mortgage (ARM) rates, making ARM interest rate resets more
expensive for homeowners. This may have also contributed to the deflating of the housing bubble,
as asset prices generally move inversely to interest rates, and it became riskier to speculate in
housing.

The Fallout franchise is nearly 20 years old, but the history of the series goes back far more than
20 years. While Fallout can easily be considered the studios most successful franchise, their
legacy goes beyond the post apocalyptic, being publishers of such games as Descent 3, Baldur s

Racism Through Blue Eye Analysis
Racism Through Blue Eyes Throughout the earliest half of the twentieth century, the American
way of life was marred with racial prejudices and acts of discrimination towards the African
Americans people and their culture. Not only were people of color demonized simply on the color
of their skin, but they were also made out to be a lesser human being when compared to those of
more wholesome ethnic backgrounds. The fact of the matter is, racismitself is a very complex issue
to discuss and analyze. In some cases, it is a deep seeded ideal that people always believe and

When given this image, one immediately gets an image of what a perfect family would look
like, at least back in the 40s or 50s. Presenting this short story right off the bat really gives the
reader a clear message that emphasizes the things that would make a family truly a family.
However, almost immediately, we are introduced to a family that is completely opposite from
the ideal American family. That family, of course, would be the Breedloves. The Breedloves are
the complete polar opposite of an ideal American family. They never see eye to eye on anything,
never have fun times together, and always seem to have a strong disdain for each other. This can
be attributed to the sense of inferiority felt by the African American people towards themselves.
The Breedloves are an inferior family because they make themselves feel inferior. They make
themselves feel inferior because they are treated inferiorly by their fellow people. We see this
throughout the entire story. This whole principle of racial inferiority is indicative of a large scale
issue that was present during the years of strife for Civil rights throughout the twentieth century.
Why would Black people feel inferior? Because, at that time, they were made out to be inferior in
more ways than one. How should one feel when they are not even made out to be enough of a
human being to sit in the front of a bus, or use the same water fountain, or even go to school in the
same building as Caucasians? There s only one way to feel when being treated in such a manner:

Social and Reproductive Monogamy in Vole Rats
Social and Reproductive Monogamy in Vole Rats
Reproductive monogamy is defined as an exclusive sexual relationship between a female and a
male based on their sexual interactions. Social Monogamy refers to male and female s social living
arrangement without sexual interactions. It refers to the living patterns, raising offsprings, and
obtaining food. Monogamy is common in birds, but also occurs in invertebrates. Why would a male
mammal choose to mate with one female when he can mate with more than one? Why would the
male stay around instead of finding another female to live with? Many researchers have
attempted to answer this question of why some mammals prefer monogamy over polygamy. Vole
rats, one of the species that perform monogamous mating, demonstrate pair boding. Male and
female pairs of vole rats have been observed together over several months, and the males stay
with females even when the female is not reproductively active. A typical vole family in the wild
is almost always consisted of one male, one female, and their offspring. In addition, unlike other
species in which females are the only ones taking care of the offspring, vole rats share parental
roles and even build nests together. Because they show these monogamous behaviors, they have
served as a good species/model to learn about monogamy for neuroscientists. In this paper,
monogamy, specifically in vole rats, will be explained along with its proximate and ultimate causes
of this adaptation.

Emotions And The Human Race
There are many answers to why emotions are important. Emotions serve several purposes. Emotions
play a vital role in how we think and behave. Emotions influence our actions, our outlook, and our
personal characteristics. Emotions help us grow and survive. Emotions help us make decisions.
Emotions help people understand one another. The list goes on and on because emotions are key to
the existence of the human race. Without emotions the human race would be unable to function
physically or mentally.
According to the evolutionary approach to emotions, emotions are very important. They are the key
to animal and human survival. Evolution states that emotions are passed on through genetic

Hardwired emotions are associated with the nervous system. It s detection of stimuli and
recognition of stimuli helps to decide what to do and then do it. Without this we would not be able
to respond to emotional encounters. For example, we need the stimulus, to thalamus, to emotion
and response to be able to react when we see a man with a gun. Without this brain and body
connection to emotions, you wouldn t be able to respond to threatening situations, decreasing your
chances of survival. The biological approach to emotions is important because it connects the brain
to the body in order to help further the survival of a species through interpretation of a situation and
reacting to it.
The cognitive approach to emotions explains how people s emotions depend on their appraisal of
an occurrence. Appraisal of a situation can determine the relevance of a situation. There are two
types of appraisal, primary and secondary appraisal. They can help determine whether a situation is
beneficial to someone and if so how they might benefit from the situation or if a situation is
dangerous and if so how to cope. Appraisals are quick. The cognitive part of this is the emotion that
occurs from the situation. For example, when you feel something, rather than just reacting quickly,
reflecting on what appraisal you made leads you to that feeling. If you change the appraisal, you can
change how you feel. The feeling attached to that appraisal determines

Europe During The Medieval Period
During the medieval time period of 200 AD to 1650 AD, Europe experienced a fluctuation in
population numbers. Factors such as disease, famine, war, and others all contribute to the changes
in population. A trend to help represent the medieval demography show a population decline during
the Late Antiquity, slow population growth during the Early Middle Ages, large population
expansion during the High Middle Ages, and a variation of population decline and growth during
the Late Middle Ages. The Late Antiquity reflects the decline of the Roman Empire. From 150 AD
to 400 AD the population of the Roman Empire went from 70 million people to 50 million
people. The empire s decline began with the Antonine Plague, lasting from 165 AD to 180 AD.
The Antonine Plague, suspected to be either smallpox or measles, was brought back to the
Roman Empire through returning soldiers from the east. A devastating 2,000 deaths daily lead to
the total estimated 5 million deaths. Succeeding the Antonine Plague was the Crisis of the Third
Century: 235 AD to 284 AD. The Roman Empire almost came to an end from outside invasions,
internal civil wars, economic depression, and new diseases. The Plague of Cyprian, 250 AD to
271 AD, like the Antonine Plague was also suspected to be smallpox. The plague took its toll on
the population, killing 5,000 people daily. The increase in deaths inhibited the number of workers
in agriculture and the Roman Empire. In 535 AD to 536 AD, the empire then faced extreme

Reflection Paper On Reading Skills
From working with Joe for the past few weeks, I noticed there were a few different reading skills
that he could use some practice with. One of the first things I noticed while working with Joe
was his fluency while reading. During the running records I had done with Joe, I was able to
listen to his reading pace, and noticed that he only took pauses when he needed to take a breath.
I also noticed that he used no expression while reading; not even when there was quotation marks
present. Another reading skill that Joe lacked was good use of a decoding strategy. When Joe
was presented with a word he didn t know, he would use picture cues, but when that didn t work,
or when illustrations were minimal, Joe would simply skip over the word. When I asked Joe
what he liked to do when he came across a word he didn t know he said, I don t know . I got a
similar answer when I asked him if he knew what his teacher, and friends did when they came
across a word they didn t know. This observation showed me that Joe could really benefit from
having a decoding strategy presented to him in a minilesson. On the first day of co teaching; my

The Similarities And Differences Between Virginia And...
Virginia and Massachusetts Bay were slave owning colonies; however, their practices were very
different. The roots of these differences were the reasons that Europeans left their home countries to

more economical society. On the other hand, MassachusettsBay was influenced by a large group of
Puritans and a relatively small group of egalitarians; hence it was more of a religious society.
These distinctions based on their lifestyle resulted in very different kinds of life experiences for
the slaves in these two colonies. The location of Virginiawas great for large plantations; therefore
many settlers were there to grow cash crops to become wealthy.

Australians perceived to be peculiar in responding to religion which neither gives comfort to

unbelief. Frame writes that when atheism was mentioned in Australia often identified with Adams
and considered him as apostle of atheism. He was motivated to write opinion pieces in favor of
atheism because humanity s denial of death was the source of its ingenious ability to muffle
morality with euphemism . Adams thinks that Australia has lost fervor for faith so that ticking the

Euphemisms In The Holocaust
Nazi euphemisms played an important role in the dehumanizing procedure of the Holocaust.
From the beginning Hitler spoke of the need to purify . Propaganda served as a significant device
to win over the majority of the German public who had not supported Adolf Hitler. During this
semester we have learned that words do not always serve the purpose of honest communications. In
fact, words are often used to hide truth and become a means of deceiving and misleading people.
During the Holocaust, Nazi language not only screened reality from their victims but also lessened
the truth of the Nazi involvement in the mass murder of Jews. In the language of the Nazis,
Sonderbehandlung ( special treatment ) meant execution, and the term Endlösung ( final solution )
referred to the systematic extermination and mass murder of the Jewish peoples. An example from
Goda shows how the Nazis used Terms such as euthanasia and mercy death which covered up the
murders of the handicapped, people that Hitler deemed unworthy of life . Euphemisms were used in
the death camps too. The Nazis deceived the Jews at Auschwitz; at the entrance it says Arbeit macht
frei which translates to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The memo recommending changes for gas vans at Chelmno is one of the most startling
documents in recent history. It contains a lot of coded language . It is also representative of the
cruelties performed by the Nazis. In the memo it labels the vans as special , this can be seen as a
euphemism for death device. It is startling when they refer to the Jews as a load as if they were
objects to be transported. It says that when the doors are shut the load pushes up onto it. This is
an indication that people were forced into the gas vans and most likely banged on the doors as
they were being gassed (referred to as the operation in the

Nonprofit Organizations Paper
Nonprofit organizations contribute many services within the communities they service. Their goal
is to meet their mission and one of the main ways this may be accomplished is through their
financial operations. Depending on the organizations size and mission some nonprofit organizations
operate as charities where others operate more through philanthropy. Ostrower (1995) examined
how charity is specifically directed towards the poor and focuses on meeting an immediate need.
Philanthropy includes charity but also encompasses the wider range of public giving for public
purposes (p. 4). In the following paper, it will briefly examine how nonprofit organizations utilize
budgeting as a planning tool, management tool, and a communications tool.... Show more content

Budgeting is a tool which assists nonprofit organizations in meeting their short and long term goals.
McLaughlin (2016) stated Budgets are intended to be a tool, a means to an end, not a holy grail (p.
163). Budgets are looking at the future of organizations. Utilizing budgeting as a planning tool
includes setting short and long term goals with specific targets to meet within six months, one year,
three years, and five years. Larger nonprofit organizations which have established credibility within
communities may have more steady revenue streams through donations, government funding, and
established endowments to assist with their financial goals. For smaller nonprofit organizations,
they must build new relationships, establish trust, and build credibility within the community they
service. The goal of a nonprofit is to meet their mission, planning lays out a road map for the
organization to follow.
Budgeting as a management tool entails meeting day to day tasks by following a financial plan of
allotted funding for daily wages, having the right volunteers for needed areas, meeting monthly
expenses, and creating a fundraising plan to increase capital for the

Comparison Of Human Bondage And Frankenstein
Of Human bondage and Frankenstein share a similarity in the way Christianity shapes the
development of the central characters. In Of Human Bondage the protagonist Philip, is brought up
with religion because his caretaker Mr. William Carey is a Vicar. Philips upbringing was very
confined and in ridged terms of church doctrine. The fear of eternal damnation functioned as Philips
moral compass through this youth, guiding him to act a certain timid manor. Upon reaching
adulthood he finds himself unable to believe and his motives change, no longer confined to the
religion s lifestyle. In Marry Shelly s novel Frankensteinthe monster grows up without religion,
instead learning about life though observing human interaction until finding Paradise

Does the Pharmaceutical Industry Have Too Much Power in Law and Healthcare?
The pharmaceutical industry has been taking advantage of healthcare by implementing laws
modeled to benefit the industry greatly, while consumers have struggled. The drug industry uses
their own sources and self sponsored research to further their influence in healthcare. Although the
pharmaceutical industry provides healthcare with good medical resources, it is highly costly for
consumers due to the manipulation of laws and healthcare. The industry is biased and sponsors its
own research to gain more funding, which typically goes to waste. Science is always looking to

The amount that companies are spending is also a big factor that contributes to the issue, most
start out companies are seen getting ideas and research from universities and other companies, but
these companies typically do not utilize them the way they should. Again this is because laws put
in place by the industry prevent them from doing so. Price controls that reduce prices too low
reduce output and capacity, lower the quality of the services that are provided, and diminish the
incentives for innovation, including ongoing R D . The industry has no excuse however, because
the manipulation of drug prices has almost backfired on them. People have become aware that the
pricing is ridiculously high, and the industry is quite getting everything they need. The industry has
created most of the problems they are trying to solve today and continue to seemingly make worse
the problems on purpose. Pharmaceutical companies are struggling to appease the public because
of the laws the industry have implemented, smaller companies usually fail because of the needs for
profit, and other needs to keep companies alive. Pharmaceutical companies have been taking
advantage of the public and taxpayer money for decades, with legislation allowing

The film A Man for All Seasons directed by Fred Zinnemann and written by Robert Bolt does a phenomenal job at depicting the history of the 16th century. More specifically the quarrel between Thomas Moreand King Henry VIII. The evaluation I prepared goes over movies purpose, is it biased, historical accuracy, movie s message, actors in relation to the film, and if the movie is a by product of its time. This movie can be looked at many different ways as the event itself was complicated. However, these questions or topics bring out the what is most impactful in a film; my opinion of course. The films, actors and actress play a huge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Going in one would need some background knowledge to really make sense of it all. In regards to balance between Henry VIII and Thomas More, I strongly believe it was kept unbiased and told from a historical standpoint. In that aspect, history does support their conclusion. The movie may have left or altered some parts here and there, but the overall movie was accurate. The hypothesis of this experiment was that an increase in concentration will increase the rate of reaction by decreasing the time taken for the colour change to occur. Figure 1.1 shows time on the x axis and concentration on the y axis, it can be seen that as [reactant] decreases, time increases. Thus, the results correlate with the hypothesis that an increase in concentration will produce a faster reaction time and subsequently a larger reaction rateregardless of change in [KIO3] or [Na2S2O5], both reactants produce the same result. The second part of the hypothesis was that an increase in [B] and decrease in [A] will still increase the overall rate of reaction, however it will cause a slow spread of colour compared to a rapid colour change. This wasn t specifically recorded by timing, however, it was noted on the 9/5/16 that when lower concentrations of KIO3 were tested, there was a slow spread of colour. On the 13/5/16, when testing Na2S2O5, there was no vast change in colour spread time. Though, all the concentrations tested of Na2S2O5 were fairly similar. If, for example, 1M Na2s2O5 was tested against 0.1M KIO3, the reaction would definitely occur quickly, however, the spread of colour could be slow since a large quantity of I2 has been used up to cancel the significantly larger amount of HSO3 ions. For what has been observed, the second part of the hypothesis is plausible. Though, this is an area of investigation which needs to be further investigated to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction And Design Of The Study CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION AND DESIGN OF THE STUDY 1.1Introduction Over the last few decades information technology has played an important role in Indian economy. It has affected all the industries especially the banking industry and has provided a way for the banks to differentiate their products and services. The traditional way of financial services delivered to customers called the branch based operations which had been used by the banks for more than 200 years, has been replaced by the advent of multiple technologies and application. For instance, Automated Teller Machine (ATM) displaced cashier tellers, telephone represented by call centers replaced the bank branch, the internet replaced mail, credit cards and electronic cash replaced bank transactions. The reason was the numerous key advantages that banks could gain by providing electronic banking services. In this way they had lower transactions cost, 24 hour trading, more extended business territory and also increased efficiency in daily banking process. The Banking Sector is also facing very stiff competition. In order to succeed such competition, they must offer a wide array of products with the latest technology. Examine some of the key principles of the argument for the existence of God based upon religious experiences Religious experiences are experiences we have of the divine or God. These experiences may be Mystical experiences, conversion experiences or revelatory experiences. Paul Tillich states that religious experience is a feeling of ultimate concern , a feeling that demands a decisive decision from the one receiving it. He describes it as an encounter followed by a special understanding of its religious significance. The argument for religious experiences is based on 3 premises. Premise one states that the experience of X indicates the reality of X. One problem with this premise is that the experience of X does not always indicate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problems with premise three can also be highlighted by looking at the religious experience of Mosses when he saw God in the burning bush. When God came to him, Mosses had just killed a man and run away into the desert. Therefore he could be experiencing extreme guilt which could cause him to have an illusion. Also if he is in the desert then he was most likely dehydrated which again could cause an illusion. Therefore other factors may be used to explain religious experiences. Another example to support premise three, and one that addresses the problem of the subjective nature of religious experiences, is corporate religious experiences. This is when large numbers of people all have the same religious experience at the same time. The fact that they are experienced by many leads to the fact that they can be objectively tested and the accounts validated adding further support for the argument. Those that argue that religious experiences are proof of the existence of God usually argue inductively. This means that they look at the subjective testimonies of individuals who claim to have had religious experiences in order to find similar characteristics and then draw the general conclusion that the experiences can only be explained in terms of the existence of God. • 16. Online Shopping Disadvantages Many of people do their shopping online because it is convenient, cost effective, and offers more selection of products rather than going into a physical brick and mortar store. Seemingly, the only downside is the shipping time, but the real cost is that it is gradually killing off local businesses such as the mom and pop shops, department stores, and also shopping malls. These physical stores provide tax base and jobs within their communities. Online retailers largely have minimal overhead, and drive prices down lower than what most brick and mortar stores can bare. Online sales have many economic benefits that brick and mortar stores don t have, which has created an environment where online entities thrive while unintentionally causing their brick and mortar counterparts to fail in many cases. Online retail shopping has grown dramatically over the past years; more and more, people are relying on their fingertips to do the shopping rather than using their legs. Barbara Mantel, a writer for the CQ Research states that, online shopping has grown fourfold since 2002 and now accounts for about 10 percent of discretionary retail spending in the United States. (par. 1). If people continue shop online, it will continue the pressure on and tension between brick and mortar and online stores, resulting in more failures of brick and mortar stores. An example of this growth is that the number of consumers spent shopping with their smartphones jumped 385 percent between February 2010 and February 2013 says Mantel. (par. 14). This number is proving that online retailers are gaining momentum, whereas the mom and pop shops are declining. Many stores are already feeling the effects of online shopping. Big department stores like Sears, Kmart, Macy s, and J.C. Penney have filed bankruptcy. According to The Independent, about 300 retail businesses went bust just between January and June of this year. Online shopping isn t the only reason that they re closing down, but it does play a significant role in their closing. The reason why these stores are closing down is that they just cannot compete with online shopping because they don t have reasonable revenue for brick and mortar stores to compete with these monstrous ... • 17. Economic Power In Imperial China Economic Power One of the main reasons China has a boost in soft power mentioned in the previous paragraph, as Joseph Nye said, is the significant rise of economic power, which is also one of the key elements of the Chinese Dream. Considering the economic history of imperial China, there are several strong points. Start from the earliest, the Han Dynasty (206 BC AD 220), which has a massive urbanization, huge population growth, stable currency and very importantly, the open up of Silk Road. These allowed commercial activities developed in a rapid rate at that time, and enabled the trade with Europe through the Silk Road. Han achieved a very high level of gross domestic product at that time, which was roughly equals to $450 per capita in 1990 s US dollar. Move forward to the Tang Dynasty (618 907), another golden period of Chinese history, which has recovered from the long period of wars, with the population surpassing the Han Dynasty. China enjoyed a long peaceful period of economic development since the Emperor Taizong of Tang, one of the greatest emperors in Chinese history. It was a rather successful piece that argued for independence from England and described the difficulties faced by the colonists because of Britain s tyranny. Paine was mostly targeting the American patriots and trying to influence them to come together and fight for their independence. He also included his idea of the colonies being free from British rule. Through his strong use of tone and figurative language, he got the colonists to picture a tyranny free country. There are many uses of rhetoric in The Crisis No. 1 . Paine uses a plentiful amount of logos in this essay. He uses it to explain logically that the colonies would thrive if they were free from British rule. He pairs his use of logos with lots of pathos. He tries to get the American patriots upset with the British in order for them to be more willing to fight against them. For example, he uses pathos when telling the story of the Tory tavern keeper who made a so called ignorant statement in front of his child. The tone he used when speaking about the tavern keeper seemed almost furious! The impact of his use of tone leaves the reader appalled. • 25. Social Class in the United States Essay There is much debate about the issue of social class in the United States. There are arguments about whether social classes are distinctly separate or fluid, dependent upon one s community or society as a whole, and if they are subjective or objective (Hughes and Jenkins). However, despite the debate surrounding social classes, it is still important to try to define them and analyze their effects, as they are such an important part of our identity and our opportunities in society. Although our society has tried to appear as though we have no classes, and it is becoming harder to tell what class someone is in by material goods, classes do still exist today (Scott and Leonhardt). The trend has been to divide the U.S. into four major... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite the debates about social class, the United States is usually described as having four major social classes, the elite or upperclass, the middle class, the working class, and the lower class (Goldscmidt). Classes are generally differentiated by income, education, and occupation although other factors do have an effect. The upperclass consists of about 1% of the population making 750,000 dollars or more a year as investors, top executives, or heirs to large fortunes (Hughes and Jenkins). There tends to be no question about who is in the upperclass as they are pretty clearly isolated in their power and wealth. The middle class makes up about 40% of the population making anywhere from 40,000 to 749,999 dollars a year (Hughes and Jenkins). The large disparity in income and wealth have led to a further division of this class into upper middle class and middle class in some circles. The middle class usually work white collar jobs as professionals and managers, however some highly skilled blue collar workers are included. Those in the middle class have usually obtained higher education degrees and place a high value on individual responsibility for one s class (Goldschmidt). The working class is composed of about 50% of the population earning 13,000 to 39,000 dollars a year (Hughes and Jenkins). Some also divide this class into a working class and a ... However, almost immediately, we are introduced to a family that is completely opposite from the ideal American family. That family, of course, would be the Breedloves. The Breedloves are the complete polar opposite of an ideal American family. They never see eye to eye on anything, never have fun times together, and always seem to have a strong disdain for each other. This can be attributed to the sense of inferiority felt by the African American people towards themselves. The Breedloves are an inferior family because they make themselves feel inferior. They make themselves feel inferior because they are treated inferiorly by their fellow people. We see this throughout the entire story. This whole principle of racial inferiority is indicative of a large scale issue that was present during the years of strife for Civil rights throughout the twentieth century. Social and Reproductive Monogamy in Vole Rats Social and Reproductive Monogamy in Vole Rats Reproductive monogamy is defined as an exclusive sexual relationship between a female and a male based on their sexual interactions. Social Monogamy refers to male and female s social living arrangement without sexual interactions. It refers to the living patterns, raising offsprings, and obtaining food. Monogamy is common in birds, but also occurs in invertebrates. Why would a male mammal choose to mate with one female when he can mate with more than one? Why would the male stay around instead of finding another female to live with? Many researchers have attempted to answer this question of why some mammals prefer monogamy over polygamy. Vole rats, one of the species that perform monogamous mating, demonstrate pair boding. Male and female pairs of vole rats have been observed together over several months, and the males stay with females even when the female is not reproductively active. A typical vole family in the wild is almost always consisted of one male, one female, and their offspring. In addition, unlike other species in which females are the only ones taking care of the offspring, vole rats share parental roles and even build nests together. Without this brain and body connection to emotions, you wouldn t be able to respond to threatening situations, decreasing your chances of survival. The biological approach to emotions is important because it connects the brain to the body in order to help further the survival of a species through interpretation of a situation and reacting to it. The cognitive approach to emotions explains how people s emotions depend on their appraisal of an occurrence. Appraisal of a situation can determine the relevance of a situation. There are two types of appraisal, primary and secondary appraisal. One of the first things I noticed while working with Joe was his fluency while reading. During the running records I had done with Joe, I was able to listen to his reading pace, and noticed that he only took pauses when he needed to take a breath. When I asked Joe what he liked to do when he came across a word he didn t know he said, I don t know . I got a similar answer when I asked him if he knew what his teacher, and friends did when they came across a word they didn t know. This observation showed me that Joe could really benefit from having a decoding strategy presented to him in a minilesson.
