Plus And Minus Of Computer Essay
Plus and Minus of Computers
On Saturday 13 May 2017, a huge number of computers around the world running Microsoft
Windows as the operating system were held hostage by ransom ware. The first action taken was
to disable the user interface by preventing access to the system to terminate the ransom ware from
running. Hence files were encrypted making them worthless unless decrypted back. The next
process was to display the ransom ware s demands of extortion of payment, to restore the files to
their original state, and if demands of payment were not met files would be deleted. In one hour
increments if the ransom was not paid the amount of the ransom went up. One place noted for
being held ransom was a hospital in England. If you will picture ... Show more content on

Protection of privacy is a separate issue unless you know about what data is collected, by who,

Keep from becoming addicted to the computer, distracted by ads, proper ergonomics, and learn
about the basics of how the computer works. What do the inevitable effects of the computer have
on the brain?
If we take the computer as a carrier of a way of knowing, a way of seeing the world and our place
in it, we are all computer people now (Turkle). The theory that being able to interact with software
on a computer therefore makes a computer person or computer people.
I disagree with that statement Sherry Turkle made, I would agree that a single person would be a
computer user and a group would be computer users. The term computer person implies a
knowledge about the computer when the result of her statement is just using software on a
computer makes a computer person . That same thought to a child of one or two years, sitting on
the lap of a parent, while pressing a key on the keyboard would qualify them as a computer person,
really!
The computer is made up of many components and the operating system is just an interface
between the user and the computer hardware. Software that runs on a computer must be designed
to meet the requirements of the operating system and not exceed the hardware limitations to run
effectively on a

Post Retirement Issues Experienced By Athletes Essay
The previous sections highlighted post retirement issues experienced by athletes, (i.e., hardships,
future concerns, identity issues, career planning decisions, etc.). To summarize, the literature has
consistently supported that most athletes struggle with retirement (Warriner Lavallee, 2008;
McGannon Mauws, 2000; Reifsteck, 2011), and that athletes who are forced to retire may
experience more transition related difficulties than those who are not (Lavallee, Gordon, Grove,
1997; Heird Stienfeldt, 2013). Since the average age of athletic retirement is 33 years old (Hadavi,
2011), most retired athletes are required to obtain a new occupation; however, most athletes have
difficulty obtaining a job or feeling competent once they find a job (Stephan, Bilard, Ninot,
Deligniers, 2003). Furthermore, Stephan, Bilard, Ninot and Delignieres (2003) found that athletes
revealed feelings of incompetence towards their new occupation that lasted as long as 8 months.
Therefore, a review evaluating successful careerplanning models in general is necessary, as there
are few post retirement career planning models for athletes in existence (Lavallee, 2005; Morris
Cherry, 2007; Stambulova, 2010). Prominent career planning models that will be discussed include
Holland s theory of vocational personalities, organizational investment, narrative career counseling,
and social cognitive career theory.
Holland s theory of vocational choice has become highly successful, since its

The Games Of Thrones By George R.r
Introduction
The Games of Thrones is a 1st book in A song of Ice and Fire . It is a fantastic adaptation of
George R.R. Martin. The story of The Games of Thrones is original , multi layered with lots of
sub plots, and is non formulaic. It is incredibly exciting ,joyful, suspenseful ,mysterious, and very
unpredictable and there is no way for you to know what is going to happen in this novel. The
story is also very violent . The characters are well developed and enjoyable whereas some
characters are even clever and secretive. Unlike most fantasy books, Martin s characters are not
totally good or evil. His characters are also very personable so we can think of them as real
people and can develop strong emotions towards them throughout the novel. Many of the
characters in the novel The Games of Thrones are killed off and new ones appear throughout the
novel. The title sequence consists of a three dimensional map of the world, which includes the
continents of Westeros and Essos, located on the inner surface of a sphere. At the center of the
sphere is a light source, a sun surrounded by an astrolabe like arrangement of rotating rings. The
Game of Thrones is set in the SevenKingdoms of Westeros of Medieval Europe. Here in the novel
The Games of Thrones we see that brothers plots against each other.

Why Was The Magna Carta Created
King John ruled England at the beginning of the thirteenth century. Not only did he rule, but he
ruled with full power under the monarchial government. His choices were not fair. They triggered
many problems between foreign countries who were the country s tax payers, causing the people
of England s taxes to rise. Throughout a very long and winded process, the English barons became
unhappier with the decisions King John had been making. This is why the Magna Cartawas created.
The Magna Carta is a document that was originally created in the year of 1215. This name is
presented in the Latin Language, meaning The Great Charter. A charter is a written endowment by
a country s legislation by which an institution, or in this case, government,... Show more content on

Even though this was true, they were directly produced to King John to stop his unfair rule. This
document is considered a landmark document because initially it only applied to the country of
England. It issued many important laws that are used today. It made sure that the cruel and
unusual punishments that were not forbidden became illegal. This is simply because of moral
rights. Another major clause in the Great Charter was that one person cannot be held responsible
for a crime without a trial by jury of his/her friends. Also, a major clause of the document is that
justice should not be sold or unnecessarily overdue. Throughout history, the Magna Carta was
modified and sort of recreated . By the twentieth century, only three major clauses remained in the
document. The first clause granted freedom to the Church of England. These churches are
Christian Catholic with strong beliefs in their religious rights. Furthermore, they guarantee the
customs and liberties of the English city of London. Lastly, they forbid uninformed arrest and the
transaction of justice. Unlike most historical documents, whether declaring freedom from a king
or any other form of government, the Magna Carta has no official copy. Each copy had at least
three thousand six hundred words written exclusively. Only four of the original copies are
remaining today. Many different versions of the Magna Carta were established between the years
1225 and 1297. Matter of fact, one original copy from 1217 recently sold for 21.3 million

How Color Affects Heating By Absorption Of Light
Purpose
The purpose of this lab is to demonstrate how color affects heating by absorption of light.
Background Information
The electromagnetic spectrum is the range of wavelengths over which electromagnetic radiation
extends (Merriam Webster Dictionary). The visible part of the spectrum is lightand we can see
colors from blue to red. On the left side of the spectrum is blue where the wavelength is shorter. On
the right side of the spectrum is red where the wavelength is much longer than the blue end. These
wavelengths are called the visible spectrum and an example of this is a rainbow. For a light wave
to be absorbed by an object, the single frequency light wave must come in contact with the object.
Although light colors reflect part of the visible light, black absorbs all energy and wavelengths.
Hypothesis
If different colored pieces of construction paper are used, then the darkest piece will absorb the most
light through the heat lamp after one hour.
Materials
6 identical glass jars, 1 quart size, with lids
6 sheets of different colored construction paper (1 piece of red, orange, yellow, green, purple, and
black)
Scissors
Tape
21 cups of water
Mercury thermometer
White modeling clay
Heat lamp
Timer
Drill and 1/4 of an inch bit
Procedure
Gather all of the necessary materials.
Drill a hole relatively larger than the thermometer in the lid of one of the jars. Only one lid needs
to have a hole because the jars will be tested separately.
Take a piece of construction

After giving a scenario about a woman s choice in clothing and the consequences it brings,
Jaramillo s comments bring to light the haunting fact that women are facing the harsh realities of
gender inequality, violence against their rights, and against women in general. According to a

The Is An Educator That Pedagogically Aligns His Method Of...
Alfie Kohn is an educator that pedagogically aligns his method of instruction with progressive
education. What is progressive education? In the attempt to explain what a progressive education
embodies, we must first observe the traditional approaches to education. For example, in a
traditional educational setting, the teacher is the ultimate leader in the classroom. The teacher
controls classroom expectations, sets rigid curriculum many times disconnected to the lived
experiences of the students in the classroom, and positions a learning system in which students
robotically memorize information for the sole of testing where information is merely to be
regurgitated. In a couple of weeks, if days after, students do not retain this information because it
lacks meaning, connection, and relevancy. Students are not able to connect to the information that
they have just learned. So, we should ask ourselves, Are our students learning for the love of
learning, or learning for the purpose of testing? Alfie Kohn in, Progressive Education Why It s Hard
to Beat, But Also Hard to Find, conveys progressive education as the thoughtful school practices
that include hands on learning, multiage classrooms, and mentor apprentice relationships. A
progressive education includes having collaborating activities with students to be able to learn from
and which each other. In order to prepare our students in the 21st century, we must teach about
becoming more globally conscious about the

country.Jackie Robinson from the autobiography I Never Had It Made was the first black in the
major leagues, while Melba Pattillo Beals from the book Warriors Don t Cry was one of the first
African Americans to go to an all white high school. Feng Ru from the biography by Rebecca
Maksel The Father Of Chinese Aviation was the one who elevated the field aviation. These people
put a lot of things to risks like their family, friends, house, and even their lives, but was determined
to do it, and in doing so, changed our country. First of all, Jackie Robinsonwas the first black
baseballplayer in the major leagues, setting an example so others could follow, integrating
baseball forever. When he joined the major leagues, he smashed the unwritten law that kept
blacks out of the big leagues. (Robinson) When he joined the Dodgers, he faced verbal and
physical threats, angry and racist fans. Even with all these people hating him, he worked hard to
be the best player he could be, not another NLB player. Robinson later said that Mr.Ricky Chosen
me as the person to lead the way. When Jackie heard this, he responded by ignoring the bad things
and focusing on the good things and people who gave him support. I had become the first black

Mount St Helens Volcano 1980
Mount St Helens Volcano 1980
The Eruption
Mount St. Helens is an active volcano in the Cascade Range (see Figure 1) . It is situated in
southwestern Washington about 70 km northeast of Portland, Oregon and was formed during four
eruptive stages beginning about 275,000 years ago (Crandell, 1987). Prior to
Figure 1: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3721266.st 1980, the last time it erupted is believed
to have been in 1857. The first indications of renewed activity in 1980 were observed in the middle
of March when earthquakes were detected beneath the volcano. There were many quakes each day
and the largest ones were able to be felt by people in the nearby area. At 8:32 am PDT on May 18,

Intense earthquake activity persisted during this time and aerial observations indicated that the
earthquakes had induced small avalanches of snow and ice. As early as March 31st, volcanic
tremors had begun to be observed on seismographs. Volcanic tremor is a continuous, rhythmic
ground shaking that is generally longer in duration and more continuous than that produced by
an earthquake of similar amplitude. As a result of these data, scientists believed that a magma
eruption from Mount St. Helens was very likely (Mounsthelens.com, 2014). However, no
eruptive activity was observed between late April and early May at which time small steam blast
eruptions began again. These ceased on May 16th. During this time, the north face of the volcano
was becoming distended and cracks were appearing. The bulge grew at a rate of about 1.5 metres
per day to more than 135m higher than before the magma intrusion. The bulge eventually
collapsed and triggered the eruption and subsequent events of May 18, 1980. See Figure 3 for a
diagrammatic representation of the sequence of events. Figure 2 The Bulge Photo by Peter Lipman,

According to Zeilinga de Boer Sanders (2002) the north side of the volcano slid down in 3
blocks. The blocks then broke up and formed into an avalanche that raced down the volcano at
more than 200 km/h. The avalanche of rock, glacial ice, snow and debris relieved pressure on the

The Beware Of Dog Sign Posted At Cupcakes For Kids
The Beware of Dog sign posted at Cupcakes for Kids is an absolute defense that will likely remove
Plaintiff from any liability if the Defendant files a counterclaim. According to Florida Statute В§
767.04 (2015), an owner is not liable, except as to a person under the age of 6 . . . if at the time of
any such injury the owner had displayed in a prominent place on his or her premises a sign easily
readable including the words Bad Dog. It is essential that the Bad Dog sign or equivalent wording
must be easily readable as well as posted in a prominent place. Carroll v. Moxley, 241 So. 2d 681

being read, not necessarily that the injured party must have been able to actually read and
understand it. Registe v. Porter, 557 So. 2d 214 (Fla. 2d DCA 1990).
In order to be relieved of liability, an owner must have a prominently placed Bad Dog sign that is
easily readable. In Carroll, the court held that the purpose of having a prominently placed sign that
is easily readable is to give actual notice of the risk of a bite to the victim. Carroll, 241 So. 2d at

Mexican And Mexican Americans During The War Of Texas And...
The Unit explains the hardships many Mexican and Mexican Americans have carried and continue
to carry till this day due to their ethnicity and roots. The inequality and struggles rooted from the
invasion of Texas and the wrongful won over Mexican territory by the Euro centric American who
then expanded their border down south unjustly colonizing the Northwest of Mexico. Along with
land many Mexicans who resided in this land were now living in among a strange new
government and environment that was once their land. This began the expectation of having
Mexican Americans being able to assimilate into the Euro Centric culture. These assimilations
they were presume to make caused for many to lose touch of their own culture. Mexican
Americans continued to be oppressed even when serving their own country. Many young Mexican
Americans turned to joining the military due to financial hardships, like many due this day.
Although these young men were risking their life they were still wrongfully treated and racially
discriminated while in service. Having men risking their life for a country and still be
discriminated because of their ethnicity shows how progressed the hatred for Mexicans was
developed. The recognition and triumph of many Mexican American soldiers went
unacknowledged due to their ethnicity. Mexican Americans were also labeled as criminals and
murders due to media and their portrayal of Mexicans. Also, the meaning of being called a Chicano

Essay on Death and the Kings Horseman and A Grain of Wheat
The following work will call your attention to the way in which a playwright and a novelist
deploy key stylistic and dramatic effects and will be complete by means of examining a passage
taken from each work. To follow a comparison and contrast of the techniques used within the two
works will be observed.

This is an interesting point of departure as to whether the happenings of the text are agreeable or
disagreeable. The first standpoint is the thorny issue of suicide in African culture. The ceremony is
that of a social process. Elesin wishes to perform this act not for personal gain, but as a social
experience that will involve his fellow countrymen as it is his duty to do so. The second
standpoint is that of suicide from a Western point of view. It is seen to have nothing that ties an
individual s death to that of another s in the supernatural world. In accordance with Christianity if
a person commits suicide that is the end of their journey. It is clear that the two standpoints differ
in standing as one sees suicide as a personal act and the other a communal. The play is certainly
fascinating and stimulating, but as for taking a standpoint on the moral issues involved it is
possible to say that despite tradition the willing suicide of an individual is not something to be
celebrated as it is in Death and the Kings Horseman.
But who tilled the soil on which grew coffee, tea, pyrethrum, and sisal? Who dug the roads and

Characters In Life Of Pi
The novel Life of Pi illustrates the life of a character named Pi during his 227 days lost at sea.
There is a strong connection between the author Yann Martel and the characters and setting in the
story Life of Pi. Martel s time spent in India was the major influence for this book as many of the
characters and story are influenced by his experiences in India. The animals in the book, which
play a major part in the story, are influenced primarily from Martel s visit to the Trivandrum Zoo,
which contains all the animals in the story except the orangutan. Religionalso plays a major role in
the story, which is influenced from Martel s visit to India as he learned about the religious culture
of India. Although Martel did not directly experience the events that occurred in Life of Pi, his time
spent in India helped to influence his work. Yann Martels visit to the Trivandrum Zoo helped to
largely inspire the characters in his novel Life of Pi. Even Luke Harding agrees that the:
Trivandrum Zoo one of India s oldest provided much of the inspiration behind Yann Martel s
extraordinary novel Life of Pi, which won the Booker prizelast week (Harding). Some of the
most important characters in Life of Pi come in the form of animals, and all of these animals can
be found in this zoo except for the orangutan. Martel s visit to the Trivandrum Zoo helped to give
character to the animals as it helped to give Martel a perspective on the animals behavior,

Shirley Jackson s Perception Of Nature
Shirley Jackson creates an atmosphere of a gloomy, dark, mysteriously fantastical wood through the
twisted encounters of Christopher and the woods and dark interactions between man and nature to
show the effects of the real world on the perception of nature. Christopher is walking through the
woods for days on end with no plan, no end point. His interactions with natureshow his apparent
hatred and bitter attitude toward it. Wearily moving his feet because he had nothing else to do,
Christopher went on down the road, hating the trees that moved slowly against his progress,
hating the dust beneath his feet, hating the sky, hating this road, (Jackson 1). Jackson repeatedly
utilizes the word hate in a variety of forms to portray Christopher as teenager of young adult full
of animosity towards all aspects of nature. The sky, the dust, the trees and more are all parts of
nature and all things that Christopher seems to be very upset over. Jackson also uses the word
wearily, to describe Christopher s emotion... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

who answered the door so subtly it seems as though the stone house was subconsciously Christopher
s intended destination. Christopher doesn t even have to say anything; his knock on the door
prompted the woman, Phyllis, to open the door and nonchalantly invites him to come in as though
she was expecting a guest. Christopher s interpretation of the picturesque stone house being

Identity And Conformity In Stargirl, By Jerry Spinelli
Throughout the novel Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, several topics across the novel contribute to the
overall theme. From identity, conformity to bullying, the topics of Stargirl cover everything under
the Mica sun. Conformity is touched after everyone in Mica Area High School is described as
conformists, blending into one another. Identity is challenged by Stargirlas she breaks away from

the Stargirlnovel puts a fresh take on the underlining theme most people aren t true to themselves
unless they are confident. To begin, Stargirl defies the term normal throughout the novel with
her identity as the quirky over the top person she is. She laughed when there was no joke. She a

in random areas of your home, most people have to go purchase boxes. Before making a big
purchase of boxes you ll later throw away, visit some of the local grocery stores. Go to the
customer service desk and find out their policy regarding boxes. Grocery stores get shipments of
boxes in on a weekly basis. Normally, grocery stores workers will break down the boxes and throw
them away. Ask if it s possible to get some boxes for yourself. Most stores give them away for free.

Introduction
Offshore outsourcing is not a new practice in the United States. Offshore outsourcing of
information technologies services, however, is relatively new to our nation. It is a hot issue in
political debates, with this being an election year. Job loss and job creation in the ... Show more

Outsourcing was not the only way low wage foreign workers affected the work force in the
1800s. There were also millions of immigrants added to the workforce. When that many new
workers were added to the labor force, of course it was not without effect on industrial wages they
were driven down.
Both outsourcing and immigration affected the economy in more ways than just the cost of labor.
Products were manufactured at a lower cost and thus sold for a lower price. Lower manufacturing
costs benefited the companies, and the lower prices of the goods produced benefited consumers.
Outsourcing Today Offshore Outsourcing
How is it Possible?
According to Philip Kotler, Today s economic landscape is being shaped by two powerful forces
technology and globalization. Offshore outsourcing is made possible by these same two factors.
This is not surprising, given the history of technological advances effects on the economy.
Advances in communications technologies and information technologies are making it possible.
Several jobs can be performed at one place while reporting to another, by electronically sending the
work wherever it is needed. And offshore outsourcing is having a tremendous affect on the
economies of the countries

Themes Found In Disney Princess Movies
Many can relate to the classic instance in which a young child does a strange act, such as body
slamming his brother like John Cena, with the parent knowing exactly where he learned it from:
his favorite television show or movie. Let s face it: children are smarter than we often give them
credit for. They observe the patterns and themes they see in movies and other media, using them to
draw conclusions about the world around them. At surface level, this is not necessarily bad. There
is nothing wrong about learning something from an electronic source, even if it is only a wrestling
move. However, the issue with these conclusions and simplifications arises when they are applied
to more complex themes: the ones that cannot be adequately outlined... Show more content on

This is shown in the movie Sleeping Beauty, in which Aurora is only saved because of the prince s
physical attraction to her. Furthermore, this theme is presented in Cinderella, in which she
improves her appearance in order to get Prince Charming, a man who has never even spoken to
her, to search the entire kingdom to marry and save her from her family. Although there is nothing
wrong with being beautiful or needing help, making external beauty a primary ambition is
dangerous for young girls. Some might falsely assume that beauty is the most important trait to
have, since many movies are centered around this idea. If girls believe that they need to be
beautiful in order to be valuable in society, this could cause them to feel even more insecure about
their appearances if they do not look like their favorite princesses. Furthermore, beautiful girls
might never try to improve any other skills if they believe that beauty is all they need, which might
not yield happy and fulfilling lives for them, contrary to their animated

Questions On An Argument On The Existence Of A Prime...
Part 1: Clarifying an Argument
State the argument you find in Passage 1 in explicit premise and conclusion form.
PASSAGE 1:
(P1) Every event must have a cause.
(P2)An infinite series of events is inconceivable.
(P3)There must be a first cause.
(C1)The first cause must have at least been the originator of the universe.
(C2)The first cause is God.
PASSAGE 2: Nagel s Counterargument
(P1)Positing the existence of a first cause does not explain away the infinite regression of events.
(P2)If God is self caused, then there are no limits to what can be self caused.
(P3)If everything must have a cause, so must God.
(C1) The existence of the world and the vast matrix of events that occur every day do not
necessitate the existence of a prime mover, or creator (or God). Part 2: Clarifying an Objection to
an Argument
State in your own words and as concisely as possible what you take Nagel s objection in Passage
2 to mean. Your task is not only to explain Nagel s words but also to show how they bear on the
argument in Passage 1. What is it, exactly, about the argument that Nagel is objecting to, which
premise or inference does he reject?
I believe Nagel is saying that if every event must have a cause, the infinite chain of events
presumably necessitated by this logic in fact follows, assuming one s acceptance of the
mathematical concept of infinity. Ergo, there does not have to be a God or even a first cause, as the
cosmological argument

The Effect Of Urbanization On Wildlife
In modern day urban settings, it is not uncommon to walk outside and experience Madagascar
right in the city parks. OK, maybe not quite Madagascar yet, but cities are getting there. The
wildlife that used to live out in the wild are now migrating into urban areas because there are no
resources left for them in their original homes. The problem is humans. Humans have taken over
the resources, homes, and economies that animals need to survive, so they are forced to come
closer and closer to humans. The movement caused by this is creating many problems between
humans and the animals that are forced to move. Urban wildlifeis beginning to cause damage to the
environment and needs to be stopped.
The effect that urbanization has on wildlife is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the causes of fear loss is caused by animals being too closely associated with the millions of
humans that surround them on a daily basis. The animals are forced to reside in human habitat
because they have nowhere else to live. The closeness can cause alterations and some urban
animals trade personal space for the convenience of the city (Soniak). Species continue to be made
to live side by side to humans and breathe the exact same air that they do. They practically share
homes with humans now because of the lack of space and the excessive populations of urban
wildlife. What used to be considered taboo is presently different because the relationship between
humans and large predators is changing (Mahoney). Large predators who lose their fears and
approach humans in search for food or water are put in danger because humans misunderstand the
animals and what they are trying to tell them. They may view a harmless approach for food as a
murder spree targeted straight at them.
Another problem that follows urbanization is the harmony between humans and animals that has
been around for years is now being disturbed. The amount of wildlife deaths in urban cities is rising
as more human populations expand and grow. Some threats to urban wildlife include: habitat loss,
light and noise pollution, invasive species, chemical runoff/ pollution and habitat fragmentation.

one true creation story. Hindu creation story takes many similarities from, the Bible. The Bible

Curiosity can be a necessary evil. Certainly, being inquisitive leads to the accumulation of

The earliest form of natural science was alchemy. The most common first thought when alchemy is
mentioned is turning elementary metals into gold. However, there is much more to it than that.
Near the time of 100 AD is when alchemy first began in the western hemisphere, specifically
Alexandria, Egypt, the joint of Greek and eastern cultures (Encyclopedia Americana Vol. 1: 510).
One of the most popular theories that lay the foundation for alchemy was that of Aristotle, written
about the 4th century BC (510). That is the theory that heat, cold, moisture, and dryness are the base
characteristics of all matter, and they combine to create the four elements: fire, water, earth, and air
(510). Frankenstein more than certainly incorporated these ideas in his chemistry experiments.
Although at first he left the medieval books alone and followed the new ideas of the modern
scientists of the time, after professor M. Waldman presented him with an open mind, he reverted to
the primitive ideas of chemistry (Shelley Web).
Of course, today most ideas from this branch of science are rejected, such as translating metals to
gold. But it was the earliest form of the branch of science known as natural science, which
Frankenstein studied at the university Ingolstadt (Shelly Web). The essence of the natural sciences
surrounds the natural, physical world and the occurrences thereof (Merriam Webster). It is no
surprise that this was the basis of Frankenstein s studies. From a very

Grand Narrative Analysis
One source of support for the legitimacy of science follows from the so called grand narrative
which presents a view of science as an objective, autonomous, self regulating and self correcting
process. Jerry Francis identifies three (3) underpinnings to the legitimacy of science but then notes
that scientific misconduct does occur. Based upon these three (3) mechanisms, briefly explain how
or where the grand narrative is likely to be at least partially naГЇve or idealistic.
Francis (1989) identifies three structures that underpin the legitimacy of the scientific grand
narrative . However, the dichotomy between the scientist s personal goals, and collective scientific
goals means that these structures are fundamentally flawed. There are three specific instances in
which the ideology of the grand narrative is flawed by human nature.
Firstly, rewards are not just internal. The grand narrative exists in a universe where everyone doing
research is solely motivated to produce research without any pressure from anything outside of
their desire to produce high quality research. However, this is idealistic. The reality is that
researchers have multiple sources of pressure to conduct and publish beyond their desire to do so.
This shifts the dynamics of grand narrative and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Importance Of Reading Comprehension
student has mastered these five components, the path to reading comprehension has become
strengthened. So in order to move towards using additional strategies to continue strengthening a
student is reading comprehension of more complex text.
The goal for our students is to make meaning of what they are reading across the curriculum and in
all content areas. We want them to read text effectively and with ease using strategies that are
student centered. We need to teach our students to think while they are readingto strengthen their
comprehension skills (Farr Conner, 2017). We can do this by insuring students have a strong
background in basic skills (Pressley, 2017). These skills are decoding, vocabulary building, word
knowledge, and active comprehension strategies (Pressley, 2017). Monitoring their comprehension
will also allow for future growth (Pressley, 2017). Students cannot understand the words in a text if
they cannot read the words (Farr Conner, 2017). The first step to developing good reading
comprehension is through decoding. Decoding is a very vital part of reading comprehension, but it
is not enough on its own (Shanahan, 2017). When we teach our students to decode proficiently, we
are opening the doors for better understanding of the text and ultimately better comprehension.
Through decoding, the student will learn the sounds of the letters in the words and this will lead to
recognizing words more often within the text. Through the decoding process, student

Causes Of Job Stress
The Risks of Job Stress
According to the American Institute of Stress, stress is impossible to measure. What may be
stressful for one person may not be stressful to another. There is good stress, which is also known
as eustress, and that is a good feeling we get when something good, new, and exciting is happening.
Then there is the not so good stress which only turns bad if it becomes chronic stress. The reason
chronic stress is so worrisome is because we are not naturally made to deal with it for long
periods of time, and eventually it will start to show symptoms either through your body or your
mental stability. The main causes of stress in the United States is job pressure, and 77% of
people regularly experience physical symptoms of stress (American Institute of Stress.) while
73% of people regularly experience psychological symptoms caused by stress. (American Institute
of Stress.) If you are looking for a reason to quit that job that makes you miserable then look no
further. Other than making you miserable, staying at a job you hate can have a great deal of other
side effects. There are links connecting job stress and metabolic syndrome, as well as links
connecting job stress to psychological disorders and weight gain. Some people must take whatever
they can get when it comes to jobs, however staying at a job one hates could be detrimental to said
persons health.

How can airport security be more advance and safe around the world? Airport security attempts to
prevent any threats or potentially dangerous situations from arising or entering the country. If
airport security does succeed in this, then the chances of any dangerous situations, illegal items or
threats entering into aircraft, country or airport are greatly reduced. As such, airport securityserves
several purposes: To protect the airport and country from any threatening events, to reassure the
traveling public that they are safe and to protect the country and their people. There are many ways

addition to TSA screening measures, airlines are still responsible for checking passenger

Peter Singer on Equality
In recent years a lot of suppressed groups have worked in an organized and active way towards
one particular goal: equality. The typical example is the Black Liberation movement, which insisted
on putting an end to the prejudice and discrimination that has made them inferior to other people.
The instant call of the black liberation movement and its success became an ideal for other
oppressed groups to go after. During the time other movements started to develop, putting the focus
on such issues as gay, women s and African American rights. Peter Singer gave a start to animal
rightsmovement, paying particular attention to how in former time permissible types of
discrimination and prejudice came to be seen as unjustly and dishonestly bias towards specific set
of people and that the hour has come for a much the same dedication to the moral and legal
entitlement of species that walk on four legs instead of two.
Singer starts his argument by supposing that the principle of equality or principle of equal
consideration of interests is a basic moral principle, which implies treating the interests of all
people as equally significant in spite of gender, color, or sexual orientation. Then he puts forward
the idea that we should reinterpret the theory of equality so that it relate not only just to all human
being but also to all sentient beings, by which he refers to all beings that have the ability to suffer
or enjoy happiness. Suffering is immoral, so we should stop

The Politics of Obesity in America Essay
Although the sizism movement may have surfaced from the personal problem of an outspoken
person, this movement is a political issue that needs to be addressed accordingly. Obesity is not
only attributed to physiological but environmental factors as well. Americans are larger than they
were 40 years ago (i.e. weigh more, are fatter, and less fit). Approximately 55% of American adults
are overweight (Fattening 1). Many Americans resolve to lose weight, through do it yourself, non
clinical, or clinical means, yet there is no method that offers long term weight loss. America s
quest to increase self esteem and attractiveness has created profits for the weight loss industry
while 22.5% of Americans remain clinically obese (1).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite diets, physical activity, behavior modification, drug therapy, and gastric surgery, few
people reduce their body weight to a desirable or healthy level and fewer maintain weight loss
beyond two to three years (36). This makes America fat, overweight, and even obese. The issues
of size and weight are of social concern. Technology has sped up the pace of American living but
it has slowed down physical activity. Americans drive everywhere they go and try to park as
close as they can. What may have begun with the simple remote control has drawn America
from baseball fields and parks to the television and computer screens. America no longer surfs
the waves; they rather surf the net (Arzino 1). Phil Arzino writes, We re becoming a nation of
couch potatoes that s raising a generation of tater tots (1). This sedimentary lifestyle effects adults
as well as teenagers, toddlers, and infants. Our culture pressures Americans to eat unhealthy
through economics and convenience. For example, a commercial for a soft drink verses a
commercial for bottled water. The commercials for soft drinks are loud, bold, and exciting.
Vending machines charge from fifty to eighty five cents for a soft drink while bottled water ranges
from eight five cents to a dollar. A typical meal at a restaurant has 1000 calories, not counting the

A 2010 study by Brigham and Women s Hospital in Boston found that one in five teens suffer from
a hearing impairment, which is an increase of 33% from 1994 (Dignan). Earbuds and headphones
have contributed to these numbers since using these at loud volumes can damage ears over time.
Earbuds and headphones have caused loss of hearing, as a result, there should be a restriction on the

To put this into perspective, hearing is an important function of the body, taking many components

America has numbers of homeless people living without a home or starving from hunger. The
solution to this problem would be the United States providing homeless people with permanent,

effective than depending on shelters. This benefits homeless people in long term housing without
inquiring them to get sober or hang onto a job first. Once they are settled in a stable home, they
gain access to services such as drug and alcohol treatment, an assigned social worker, or job

Several people who need permanent supportive housing are fighting mental problems or drug and

Sports Agents Essay

People have been entertained by sport since before the gladiators in the Roman Coliseum. In the

figures became internationally recognized, athletes began to realize their need for professional
representation. Thus, sports agents were born. The field of sports agents has grown since then into

This system bound players to teams and allowed owners to depress salaries of players.
The second factor was the development of competing leagues. Competing leagues such as the
American Football League, the American Baseball Association, the World Hockey Association,
and the United States Football League offered an alternative to athletes (Masteralexis, 246). These
leagues offered higher salaries to induce players to move from their original teams. When players
left a team to for more money, it also increased the salaries of players who stayed on the team.
Agents played a crucial role in determining what was best for athletes, and which league they should
choose.
The third reason for the growth of Sports Agency is the evolution of players associations. The
Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) led the move away from informal,
powerless associations to true labor organizations that took part in collective bargaining
(Masteralexis, 246). This organized a central association to bargain for players income, post
career income, tax breaks, and others. The union also made it possible for players to fight, or even
strike to get what they wanted. One of the largest accomplishments of the MLBPA was establishing
free agency. This was able to happen when Major League Baseball and the MLBPA went through
negotiations and the MLBPA won the right to labor grievance arbitration. Under this arbitration the
MLBPA achieved free agency. The

Having fun in a place that is known for the partying and nightlife is very important. As Mexico s
most profitable beach destination, Cancun draws international sophisticates to work and play
(Maribeth Merlin) inspires visitors to to see that having fun in Cancun is very important. A popular
nightclub with pop and rock shows and a breezy autreso deck that looks toward the hotel zone
twinkling in the distance (36 Hours In Cancun) shows that entertainment is very popular in Cancun.
When having a lot of fun in Cancun, it gives visitors memories to have for the rest of their lives. It
shows that the city has a lot of knowledge in entertainment because of the ranking of being the best
city of nightlife.
Another reason why to visit Cancun is because of the food and atmosphere that the city have.

The Importance Of Respect In Society Today
We use it every day. Your parents tell you about it all the time. Most don t know exactly what it
means. Respect. To have respect is to hold oneself worthy of your admiration or approval. Society
cannot function without respect because it is the oil that keeps the gears turning. Respect is
actively listening, obeying orders, and being mindful, whether it s to others, the environment, the
law, or yourself.
In today s society, respect is decreasing. In schools, in the workplace, at home, and in public with
racism, sexism, religious intolerance, and more. Racism and police brutality have increased since
cases like of Trayvon Martin and Freddie Gray. Peopleof color have not received the respect they
deserve and respect for policemen is decreasing. Sexism has increased since third wave feminists
surfaced and skewed people s image and respect for feminists. Religious intolerance increases as
terrorist attacks continue with people s misconceptions about Islam. An example of a group
lacking respect in society today is the youth. The youth isn t anywhere near as respectful to their
parents, teachers, or elders as they were before the nineteen hundreds. But to make the youth more
respectful, one must respect the youth. Jenni Herd wrote in response to Times s Moods and
meltdowns: what s inside the teenage brain? , [We re] angry that we have to clean up your mess,
while you hold us in contempt, analyzing our responses as though we were another species? I
would like adults to treat us

Three Days To Grief Analysis
Someone once told me that if your heart is broken take three days to grieve. Take three days to
weep, three days to break. Allow it to consume your thoughts and dictate your actions, but on the
fourth day rise and continue. This is how you shall bleed, and this is how you shall mend. This
was my diagnosis for all pain and all suffering. The conditions of this master plan include
frantically stuffing the hurt inside, so that when you emerge from your grieving on the fourth day
the pain will have somehow vanished, never to be felt again. However, using this technique
drained my heart of life, and got me no closer to closure. Each of the three days, I would dwell on
my unfortunate circumstances, letting it suck the life of the present day. I would retreat into
solitude to deal with my emotions only to arise confused upon the revelation that the hurt was still...

Charles Frazier, Cold mountain, p.334 I always refused to emerge from my process wounded and
scabbed. I refused to carry my burden with me after I had dealt with them, but somehow, when I
moved they moved also. I dealt with them, I thought. I gave it three days, so they have no right to
creep up on me at night. They have to right to be haunting me. I have been through that already. I
have given them the time they require, and now I wish to put them down.
Grief, terror, love, longing... this was the heaviest burden of all, for it could never be put down.
Tim O Brien, The Things They Carried, p. All my life I had constantly tried to drop my burdens
as soon as they were picked up, but it is part of the human condition to suffer, to carry things. You
can t get rid of them until they are ripe and ready to leave. You can t get rid of them unless they
have moved you towards growth. This made me feel stuck. Stuck meaning that I couldn t move

What Is The Legacy Of Fidel Castro
I feel about the death of fidel castro normal,.The legacy of Fidel Castro is one of shootings, theft,
unimaginable suffering, poverty, and the denial of fundamental human rights .He was a brutal
dictator who oppressed his own people for nearly six decades. While Cuba is still a totalitarian
island, I hope today to mark a departure from the horrors endured for too long, to a future in which
the wonderful Cuban people finally live in the freedom they deserve so much.Although we can not
erase the tragedies, the deaths and the pain caused by Fidel Castro, our government has everything
possible to ensure that the Cuban people can also begin their journey towards prosperity and
freedom. The story will record and create the immense impact of the unique

Bully In Odd Girl Out
Odd Girl Out is a 2005 film focusing on Vanessa Snyder and her friend group. Vanessa and her
friends are high school students who deal with the effects of bullying. More specifically,
Vanessa deals with the effects of bullying, while her friends take active parts in the role of the
bully. This film deals with topics discussed in a tenth grade health class such as bullying and the
stages and places to be taken in it, as well as self confidence. The first instance of bullying was
immediate, happening within the first few minutes of the film. We see Stacey, Nikki, and Vanessa
compliment Tiffany s skirt, only to turn around and make fun of it. This was harmless, of course,
because it was between the small group. However, it was bullying nonetheless, and the already
nasty attitude the girls have towards other people festered into negative feelings towards each other.
This leads to a much more harsh and out of control form of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Using the bully circle as a reference, one can say that Nikki was a definite bully, as she started
the whole persecution of Vanessa. It can be debated whether Stacy would be considered a bully,
henchman, or disengaged onlooker, as she watched Nikki and her peers torment Vanessa, and
was constantly aware of the acts being committed, but does not join in on it. That is, until Stacy
gives Vanessa false information about the party, leading her to go to the wrong place, which
bumps her up into being a henchman, who takes an active role in the bullying. Emily, a friend
that Vanessa makes through the events of the movie, would be considered a resistor or defender,
since she is constantly standing up for Vanessa and against the tyranny of the girls bullying her.
Other students have other roles in the bullying, such as Tony, who would be a disengaged
onlooker, because we do not see him partake in the bullying nor do we see him stand up for

The Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster
The Space Shuttle Challenger Disaster Case 1: Case study of Challenger Space Shuttle Disaster
Table of Contents Abstract 4 Overview 5 Background Information 5 Problem Statement 6 Initial
Investigation 6 Detailed Analysis 6 Recommendation 10 References 11 Abstract In this paper
we will study the Challenger space shuttle disaster in detail. Our focus will be on different
aspects of this event such as the many purposes which were served by the Challenger space
shuttle; we will also specifically focus on the media s role regarding this event and see how it
affected the entire situation. Overview When a disastrous event like the Challenger (which was
also known as STS 51L) shuttle explosion occurs, the reaction from the media greatly affects the
public opinion. In any disaster event the public support for the mission is greatly affected and
this factor can greatly jeopardize any further missions since the public has a huge amount of
interest where their funding goes. It is also seen that the media skew its reports just for the sake
of higher ratings. Background Information The space shuttle challenger disaster took place on
January 28, 1986. It was a space launch mission conducted by NASA which failed and exploded
in air just 73 seconds after liftoff. The seven member crew in the space died. It is said that they did
not die on the initial explosion but later after the Challenger landed. The tragedy and its
consequences attracted wide media attention

Rihanna If They Let Us Part I Analysis
The artwork I have chosen is the album artwork of Rihanna s eighth and most recent studio
album, ANTI. I will be analyzing the album artwork seen and felt on the case of the physical
copy. The artwork was painted by Israeli born, Roy Nachum. The cover art is titled, If They Let
Us, Part I and was painted in 2015. The artwork is an oil on canvas painting and is 51 x 45
inches (130 x 114 cm). I am going to give my content analysis off the artwork. This analysis will
be how I interpret this artwork and how it reflects to Rihanna and the albumto which this artwork is
a cover artfor. The artwork has many elements to it and so a lot of materials to analyze. The
artwork is a complex mixture of shades, colors and raised dots. The artwork is completely... Show

This is because of Egyptian artwork has many artworks in the frontal pose, only wearing some
fabric around their waist, leaving the top halves of their bodies exposed. I specifically think
about the Seated Scribe, where a man has his top half of his body naked and has a white piece of
fabric wrapped around his waist. It also reminds me of the blank face, clenched fist and open palm
of the Khafre sculpture. Similarly to Khafre sculpture, the girl is in frontal pose. The girl has one
hand clenched into a fist holding the balloon and the other relaxed and open. The sculpture could
possibly have the same meaning to the painting, with her clenched fist representing the strength of
the album and the relaxed palm showing the steadiness or fluidity of the album. Additionally, just
like the sculpture, the girl has an emotionless face, which could suggest there is no weakness or
flaw in the album. All in all, I believe modern art has traces/resemblance to past art in them, and
there are no exceptions in this artwork for an album

  • 2. Plus And Minus Of Computer Essay Plus and Minus of Computers On Saturday 13 May 2017, a huge number of computers around the world running Microsoft Windows as the operating system were held hostage by ransom ware. The first action taken was to disable the user interface by preventing access to the system to terminate the ransom ware from running. Hence files were encrypted making them worthless unless decrypted back. The next process was to display the ransom ware s demands of extortion of payment, to restore the files to their original state, and if demands of payment were not met files would be deleted. In one hour increments if the ransom was not paid the amount of the ransom went up. One place noted for being held ransom was a hospital in England. If you will picture ... What do the inevitable effects of the computer have on the brain? If we take the computer as a carrier of a way of knowing, a way of seeing the world and our place in it, we are all computer people now (Turkle). The theory that being able to interact with software on a computer therefore makes a computer person or computer people. I disagree with that statement Sherry Turkle made, I would agree that a single person would be a computer user and a group would be computer users. The term computer person implies a knowledge about the computer when the result of her statement is just using software on a computer makes a computer person . That same thought to a child of one or two years, sitting on the lap of a parent, while pressing a key on the keyboard would qualify them as a computer person, really! The computer is made up of many components and the operating system is just an interface between the user and the computer hardware. • 3. Post Retirement Issues Experienced By Athletes Essay The previous sections highlighted post retirement issues experienced by athletes, (i.e., hardships, future concerns, identity issues, career planning decisions, etc.). To summarize, the literature has consistently supported that most athletes struggle with retirement (Warriner Lavallee, 2008; McGannon Mauws, 2000; Reifsteck, 2011), and that athletes who are forced to retire may experience more transition related difficulties than those who are not (Lavallee, Gordon, Grove, 1997; Heird Stienfeldt, 2013). Since the average age of athletic retirement is 33 years old (Hadavi, 2011), most retired athletes are required to obtain a new occupation; however, most athletes have difficulty obtaining a job or feeling competent once they find a job (Stephan, Bilard, Ninot, Deligniers, 2003). Furthermore, Stephan, Bilard, Ninot and Delignieres (2003) found that athletes revealed feelings of incompetence towards their new occupation that lasted as long as 8 months. Therefore, a review evaluating successful careerplanning models in general is necessary, as there are few post retirement career planning models for athletes in existence (Lavallee, 2005; Morris Cherry, 2007; Stambulova, 2010). Prominent career planning models that will be discussed include Holland s theory of vocational personalities, organizational investment, narrative career counseling, and social cognitive career theory. Holland s theory of vocational choice has become highly successful, since its ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The story of The Games of Thrones is original , multi layered with lots of sub plots, and is non formulaic. It is incredibly exciting ,joyful, suspenseful ,mysterious, and very unpredictable and there is no way for you to know what is going to happen in this novel. The story is also very violent . The characters are well developed and enjoyable whereas some characters are even clever and secretive. Unlike most fantasy books, Martin s characters are not totally good or evil. His characters are also very personable so we can think of them as real people and can develop strong emotions towards them throughout the novel. Many of the characters in the novel The Games of Thrones are killed off and new ones appear throughout the novel. The title sequence consists of a three dimensional map of the world, which includes the continents of Westeros and Essos, located on the inner surface of a sphere. • 5. Why Was The Magna Carta Created King John ruled England at the beginning of the thirteenth century. Not only did he rule, but he ruled with full power under the monarchial government. His choices were not fair. They triggered many problems between foreign countries who were the country s tax payers, causing the people of England s taxes to rise. Throughout a very long and winded process, the English barons became unhappier with the decisions King John had been making. This is why the Magna Cartawas created. The Magna Carta is a document that was originally created in the year of 1215. This name is presented in the Latin Language, meaning The Great Charter. A charter is a written endowment by a country s legislation by which an institution, or in this case, government,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though this was true, they were directly produced to King John to stop his unfair rule. This document is considered a landmark document because initially it only applied to the country of England. It issued many important laws that are used today. It made sure that the cruel and unusual punishments that were not forbidden became illegal. This is simply because of moral rights. Another major clause in the Great Charter was that one person cannot be held responsible for a crime without a trial by jury of his/her friends. Also, a major clause of the document is that justice should not be sold or unnecessarily overdue. Throughout history, the Magna Carta was modified and sort of recreated . By the twentieth century, only three major clauses remained in the document. The first clause granted freedom to the Church of England. These churches are Christian Catholic with strong beliefs in their religious rights. Furthermore, they guarantee the customs and liberties of the English city of London. Lastly, they forbid uninformed arrest and the transaction of justice. Unlike most historical documents, whether declaring freedom from a king or any other form of government, the Magna Carta has no official copy. Each copy had at least three thousand six hundred words written exclusively. Only four of the original copies are remaining today. Many different versions of the Magna Carta were established between the years 1225 and 1297. Matter of fact, one original copy from 1217 recently sold for 21.3 million ... • 6. How Color Affects Heating By Absorption Of Light Purpose The purpose of this lab is to demonstrate how color affects heating by absorption of light. Background Information The electromagnetic spectrum is the range of wavelengths over which electromagnetic radiation extends (Merriam Webster Dictionary). The visible part of the spectrum is lightand we can see colors from blue to red. On the left side of the spectrum is blue where the wavelength is shorter. On the right side of the spectrum is red where the wavelength is much longer than the blue end. These wavelengths are called the visible spectrum and an example of this is a rainbow. For a light wave to be absorbed by an object, the single frequency light wave must come in contact with the object. Although light colors reflect part of the visible light, black absorbs all energy and wavelengths. Hypothesis If different colored pieces of construction paper are used, then the darkest piece will absorb the most light through the heat lamp after one hour. Materials 6 identical glass jars, 1 quart size, with lids 6 sheets of different colored construction paper (1 piece of red, orange, yellow, green, purple, and black) Scissors Tape 21 cups of water Mercury thermometer White modeling clay Heat lamp Timer Drill and 1/4 of an inch bit Procedure Gather all of the necessary materials. • 8. The Is An Educator That Pedagogically Aligns His Method Of... Alfie Kohn is an educator that pedagogically aligns his method of instruction with progressive education. What is progressive education? In the attempt to explain what a progressive education embodies, we must first observe the traditional approaches to education. For example, in a traditional educational setting, the teacher is the ultimate leader in the classroom. The teacher controls classroom expectations, sets rigid curriculum many times disconnected to the lived experiences of the students in the classroom, and positions a learning system in which students robotically memorize information for the sole of testing where information is merely to be regurgitated. In a couple of weeks, if days after, students do not retain this information because it lacks meaning, connection, and relevancy. Students are not able to connect to the information that they have just learned. So, we should ask ourselves, Are our students learning for the love of learning, or learning for the purpose of testing? Alfie Kohn in, Progressive Education Why It s Hard to Beat, But Also Hard to Find, conveys progressive education as the thoughtful school practices that include hands on learning, multiage classrooms, and mentor apprentice relationships. A progressive education includes having collaborating activities with students to be able to learn from and which each other. In order to prepare our students in the 21st century, we must teach about becoming more globally conscious about the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As early as March 31st, volcanic tremors had begun to be observed on seismographs. Volcanic tremor is a continuous, rhythmic ground shaking that is generally longer in duration and more continuous than that produced by an earthquake of similar amplitude. As a result of these data, scientists believed that a magma eruption from Mount St. Helens was very likely (Mounsthelens.com, 2014). However, no eruptive activity was observed between late April and early May at which time small steam blast eruptions began again. These ceased on May 16th. During this time, the north face of the volcano was becoming distended and cracks were appearing. The bulge grew at a rate of about 1.5 metres per day to more than 135m higher than before the magma intrusion. The first standpoint is the thorny issue of suicide in African culture. The ceremony is that of a social process. Elesin wishes to perform this act not for personal gain, but as a social experience that will involve his fellow countrymen as it is his duty to do so. The second standpoint is that of suicide from a Western point of view. It is seen to have nothing that ties an individual s death to that of another s in the supernatural world. In accordance with Christianity if a person commits suicide that is the end of their journey. It is clear that the two standpoints differ in standing as one sees suicide as a personal act and the other a communal. The play is certainly fascinating and stimulating, but as for taking a standpoint on the moral issues involved it is possible to say that despite tradition the willing suicide of an individual is not something to be celebrated as it is in Death and the Kings Horseman. There were also millions of immigrants added to the workforce. When that many new workers were added to the labor force, of course it was not without effect on industrial wages they were driven down. Both outsourcing and immigration affected the economy in more ways than just the cost of labor. Products were manufactured at a lower cost and thus sold for a lower price. Lower manufacturing costs benefited the companies, and the lower prices of the goods produced benefited consumers. Outsourcing Today Offshore Outsourcing How is it Possible? Themes Found In Disney Princess Movies Many can relate to the classic instance in which a young child does a strange act, such as body slamming his brother like John Cena, with the parent knowing exactly where he learned it from: his favorite television show or movie. Let s face it: children are smarter than we often give them credit for. They observe the patterns and themes they see in movies and other media, using them to draw conclusions about the world around them. At surface level, this is not necessarily bad. There is nothing wrong about learning something from an electronic source, even if it is only a wrestling move. Although there is nothing wrong with being beautiful or needing help, making external beauty a primary ambition is dangerous for young girls. Some might falsely assume that beauty is the most important trait to have, since many movies are centered around this idea. If girls believe that they need to be beautiful in order to be valuable in society, this could cause them to feel even more insecure about their appearances if they do not look like their favorite princesses. (C1)The first cause must have at least been the originator of the universe. (C2)The first cause is God. PASSAGE 2: Nagel s Counterargument (P1)Positing the existence of a first cause does not explain away the infinite regression of events. (P2)If God is self caused, then there are no limits to what can be self caused. (P3)If everything must have a cause, so must God. (C1) The existence of the world and the vast matrix of events that occur every day do not necessitate the existence of a prime mover, or creator (or God). Part 2: Clarifying an Objection to an Argument State in your own words and as concisely as possible what you take Nagel s objection in Passage 2 to mean. Your task is not only to explain Nagel s words but also to show how they bear on the argument in Passage 1. What is it, exactly, about the argument that Nagel is objecting to, which premise or inference does he reject? One of the causes of fear loss is caused by animals being too closely associated with the millions of humans that surround them on a daily basis. The animals are forced to reside in human habitat because they have nowhere else to live. The closeness can cause alterations and some urban animals trade personal space for the convenience of the city (Soniak). Species continue to be made to live side by side to humans and breathe the exact same air that they do. They practically share homes with humans now because of the lack of space and the excessive populations of urban wildlife. What used to be considered taboo is presently different because the relationship between humans and large predators is changing (Mahoney). Large predators who lose their fears and approach humans in search for food or water are put in danger because humans misunderstand the animals and what they are trying to tell them. They may view a harmless approach for food as a murder spree targeted straight at them. Another problem that follows urbanization is the harmony between humans and animals that has been around for years is now being disturbed. Near the time of 100 AD is when alchemy first began in the western hemisphere, specifically Alexandria, Egypt, the joint of Greek and eastern cultures (Encyclopedia Americana Vol. 1: 510). One of the most popular theories that lay the foundation for alchemy was that of Aristotle, written about the 4th century BC (510). That is the theory that heat, cold, moisture, and dryness are the base characteristics of all matter, and they combine to create the four elements: fire, water, earth, and air (510). Grand Narrative Analysis One source of support for the legitimacy of science follows from the so called grand narrative which presents a view of science as an objective, autonomous, self regulating and self correcting process. Based upon these three (3) mechanisms, briefly explain how or where the grand narrative is likely to be at least partially naГЇve or idealistic. Francis (1989) identifies three structures that underpin the legitimacy of the scientific grand narrative . However, the dichotomy between the scientist s personal goals, and collective scientific goals means that these structures are fundamentally flawed. There are three specific instances in which the ideology of the grand narrative is flawed by human nature. Firstly, rewards are not just internal. The grand narrative exists in a universe where everyone doing research is solely motivated to produce research without any pressure from anything outside of their desire to produce high quality research. • 29. The Importance Of Reading Comprehension student has mastered these five components, the path to reading comprehension has become strengthened. So in order to move towards using additional strategies to continue strengthening a student is reading comprehension of more complex text. The goal for our students is to make meaning of what they are reading across the curriculum and in all content areas. We want them to read text effectively and with ease using strategies that are student centered. We need to teach our students to think while they are readingto strengthen their comprehension skills (Farr Conner, 2017). We can do this by insuring students have a strong background in basic skills (Pressley, 2017). These skills are decoding, vocabulary building, word knowledge, and active comprehension strategies (Pressley, 2017). Monitoring their comprehension will also allow for future growth (Pressley, 2017). Students cannot understand the words in a text if they cannot read the words (Farr Conner, 2017). The first step to developing good reading comprehension is through decoding. Decoding is a very vital part of reading comprehension, but it is not enough on its own (Shanahan, 2017). When we teach our students to decode proficiently, we are opening the doors for better understanding of the text and ultimately better comprehension. Through decoding, the student will learn the sounds of the letters in the words and this will lead to recognizing words more often within the text. Through the decoding process, student ... The typical example is the Black Liberation movement, which insisted on putting an end to the prejudice and discrimination that has made them inferior to other people. The instant call of the black liberation movement and its success became an ideal for other oppressed groups to go after. During the time other movements started to develop, putting the focus on such issues as gay, women s and African American rights. Peter Singer gave a start to animal rightsmovement, paying particular attention to how in former time permissible types of discrimination and prejudice came to be seen as unjustly and dishonestly bias towards specific set of people and that the hour has come for a much the same dedication to the moral and legal entitlement of species that walk on four legs instead of two. Singer starts his argument by supposing that the principle of equality or principle of equal consideration of interests is a basic moral principle, which implies treating the interests of all people as equally significant in spite of gender, color, or sexual orientation. Approximately 55% of American adults are overweight (Fattening 1). Many Americans resolve to lose weight, through do it yourself, non clinical, or clinical means, yet there is no method that offers long term weight loss. These leagues offered higher salaries to induce players to move from their original teams. When players left a team to for more money, it also increased the salaries of players who stayed on the team. Agents played a crucial role in determining what was best for athletes, and which league they should choose. The third reason for the growth of Sports Agency is the evolution of players associations. • 43. The Importance Of Respect In Society Today We use it every day. Your parents tell you about it all the time. Most don t know exactly what it means. Respect. To have respect is to hold oneself worthy of your admiration or approval. Society cannot function without respect because it is the oil that keeps the gears turning. Respect is actively listening, obeying orders, and being mindful, whether it s to others, the environment, the law, or yourself. In today s society, respect is decreasing. In schools, in the workplace, at home, and in public with racism, sexism, religious intolerance, and more. Racism and police brutality have increased since cases like of Trayvon Martin and Freddie Gray. Peopleof color have not received the respect they deserve and respect for policemen is decreasing. Sexism has increased since third wave feminists surfaced and skewed people s image and respect for feminists. Religious intolerance increases as terrorist attacks continue with people s misconceptions about Islam. An example of a group lacking respect in society today is the youth. The youth isn t anywhere near as respectful to their parents, teachers, or elders as they were before the nineteen hundreds. But to make the youth more respectful, one must respect the youth. • 44. Three Days To Grief Analysis Someone once told me that if your heart is broken take three days to grieve. Take three days to weep, three days to break. Allow it to consume your thoughts and dictate your actions, but on the fourth day rise and continue. This is how you shall bleed, and this is how you shall mend. This was my diagnosis for all pain and all suffering. The conditions of this master plan include frantically stuffing the hurt inside, so that when you emerge from your grieving on the fourth day the pain will have somehow vanished, never to be felt again. However, using this technique drained my heart of life, and got me no closer to closure. Each of the three days, I would dwell on my unfortunate circumstances, letting it suck the life of the present day. I would retreat into solitude to deal with my emotions only to arise confused upon the revelation that the hurt was still... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I refused to carry my burden with me after I had dealt with them, but somehow, when I moved they moved also. I dealt with them, I thought. I gave it three days, so they have no right to creep up on me at night. They have to right to be haunting me. I have been through that already. I have given them the time they require, and now I wish to put them down. Grief, terror, love, longing... this was the heaviest burden of all, for it could never be put down. • 46. Bully In Odd Girl Out Odd Girl Out is a 2005 film focusing on Vanessa Snyder and her friend group. Vanessa and her friends are high school students who deal with the effects of bullying. More specifically, Vanessa deals with the effects of bullying, while her friends take active parts in the role of the bully. This film deals with topics discussed in a tenth grade health class such as bullying and the stages and places to be taken in it, as well as self confidence. The first instance of bullying was immediate, happening within the first few minutes of the film. We see Stacey, Nikki, and Vanessa compliment Tiffany s skirt, only to turn around and make fun of it. This was harmless, of course, because it was between the small group. However, it was bullying nonetheless, and the already nasty attitude the girls have towards other people festered into negative feelings towards each other. This leads to a much more harsh and out of control form of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using the bully circle as a reference, one can say that Nikki was a definite bully, as she started the whole persecution of Vanessa. It can be debated whether Stacy would be considered a bully, henchman, or disengaged onlooker, as she watched Nikki and her peers torment Vanessa, and was constantly aware of the acts being committed, but does not join in on it. That is, until Stacy gives Vanessa false information about the party, leading her to go to the wrong place, which bumps her up into being a henchman, who takes an active role in the bullying. Emily, a friend that Vanessa makes through the events of the movie, would be considered a resistor or defender, since she is constantly standing up for Vanessa and against the tyranny of the girls bullying her. Other students have other roles in the bullying, such as Tony, who would be a disengaged onlooker, because we do not see him partake in the bullying nor do we see him stand up for ... This is because of Egyptian artwork has many artworks in the frontal pose, only wearing some fabric around their waist, leaving the top halves of their bodies exposed. I specifically think about the Seated Scribe, where a man has his top half of his body naked and has a white piece of fabric wrapped around his waist. It also reminds me of the blank face, clenched fist and open palm of the Khafre sculpture. Similarly to Khafre sculpture, the girl is in frontal pose. The girl has one hand clenched into a fist holding the balloon and the other relaxed and open. The sculpture could possibly have the same meaning to the painting, with her clenched fist representing the strength of the album and the relaxed palm showing the steadiness or fluidity of the album. Additionally, just like the sculpture, the girl has an emotionless face, which could suggest there is no weakness or flaw in the album. All in all, I believe modern art has traces/resemblance to past art in them, and there are no exceptions in this artwork for an album ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
