The Pacific Theater Of World War II
The Pacific Theater of World War II saw some of the most destructive and deadly battles in the history
of the United States. Many of these battles played out over the course of several days and involved
countless casualties from both American and Japanese forces. The Battle of the Philippine Sea is one
such battle that marks a major win for the United States in the Pacific. The battle, which took place
during June of 1944, took out most of the enemy s carrier based planes, along with their pilots, leading
to the successful invasion of the Philippines and Marianas, which served as land based airfields that
were close enough to launch attacks of the Japanese homeland. As the battle raged, Admiral Spruance
made a controversial decision to not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spruance tasked Admiral Mitscher and his Task Force 58 with control of the impending attack. TF
58−composed of 15 carriers, cruisers, destroyers, and hundreds of planes−was supplemented by
several hunter killer groups that preceded the ships arrival in the Marinas. On June 19, 1944, as TF 58
got closer, the Japanese, whose aircraft had longer ranges, launched the first wave of aircraft.
However, the incoming planes were quickly spotted, which gave Admiral Mitscher enough time to
ensure a large number of his planes were in the air before the enemy got too close to Saipan, which
Spruance was intent on protecting. Consequently, Ozawa s aircraft were intercepted and many were
shot down. Around this time, torpedoes from US submarines struck and sank 2 Japanese carriers.
Many more enemy aircraft waves were launched to attack TF 58; however, a very small number
actually reached US ships. Japanese forces only landed one hit on a US ship throughout the entire
battle. The Japanese suffered over 300 planes lost in air combat while the US only lost 30. Mitscher
was not satisfied, however, and took off in pursuit of the enemy, knowing his aircraft would not be in
range until late the next afternoon. Despite being at the very edge of their attacking range, the US
aircraft shot down even more enemy planes and also sank another carrier, ending one of the greatest

The Issue Of Homelessness Is Not A New Issue
The issue of homelessness in remains an issue that is rarely acknowledged or discussed. Governments
all around the world boast of all the work they are doing for their country, bringing up GDP,
employment rate and promising even more. However, when the issue of homelessness is brought up,
governments shy away, pretending that it is barely an issue in the country. Unfortunately, Canada is
one of those countries. A study done in 2014 on the issue of homelessness in Canada found that
approximately 235, 000 Canadians will experience homelessness in a year, with over 35, 000
Canadians homeless on any given night. (Canadian Observatory on Homelessness, 5) The issue of
homelessness is not a new issue; however, this issue needs to be ... Show more content on

However, affordable housing needs money. For not only governments, but people in all sorts of
positions, there exists a hesitance to put money into a situation in which one does not immediately
benefit. Government s are more willing to spend millions on fighter aircrafts, for example, than invest
into their own people. Such behavior begs the question of what the priority of the government is.
Ironically, ignoring the homelessness issue in Canada costs the Canadian economy over $7 billion per
year. (Canadian Observatory on Homelessness, 6) The Canadian Government has invested in the issue
of homelessness, increasing the number of temporary shelters, investing in longer hospital stay,
emergency healthcare and various other programs to aid in this issue. However, the rate of
homelessness continues to grow; this implies that what has been done is simply not enough.
Temporary shelters, similar to their name, are temporary. A homeless person, temporarily, has a place
to sleep; however, temporarily does not solve the issue of homelessness. Programs like temporary
shelters and emergency healthcare are costing the Government billions each year and not aiding in the
fight to end homelessness. For many Canadians a large portion of their income goes towards rent, in
fact nearly 1 in 5 households experience extreme housing affordability problems, meaning they have
low incomes and have to spend

Margaret Hungerford s Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder
Beauty. When you see that word, what do you think of? Your significant other? A Victoria s Secret
model? Maybe an ooey gooey bowl of mac and cheese? They say that beauty is in the eye of the
beholder , meaning perception of beauty is subjective from person to person. But is it really? In today
s society, we seem to have a preconceived notion of what we are supposed to consider beautiful .
Although it seems that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the ridiculous standards and pressures of
beauty created by the current modeling and entertainment industry have caused us to form a warped
view of body image and what we perceive as beautiful . Although the cliché phrase may have been
used before, the first known use of beauty is in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our minds can be molded by others in multiple different ways, such as through conformity, when
people alter their thoughts or behaviors to match another group or what is normal , or persuasion,
convincing an individual to accept a certain belief of another (Gray and Bjorklund). Through these
techniques, we can be easily influenced, and the media uses them every day to shape our views of the
world. From ancient times to present day, the concept of beauty has changed tremendously. Back in
the 17th and 18th centuries, society embraced models such as Lillian Russell, a more heavyset woman
that would most likely be shunned in the current modeling industry (Bushak). Even in the mid 1900s,
one of the most iconic women of the century, Marilyn Monroe, was quite curvy herself (Bushak).
Then, in the 1990s, skinny was in; models were progressively becoming thinner and thinner to the
point we are at now, influencing the major eating disorder epidemic and body insecurities in
adolescents we see today. Even I have noticed this change in Disney Channel; over the years, the
actors sizes have gone from a 10 to a 2. For example, the shows I used to watch included actresses like
Raven Symone and more recent shows, like Shake It Up, include actresses such as Bella Thorne and
Zendaya. Young girls are constantly seeing and comparing themselves

How Can Conflict In The Workplace Affect The Quality Of Care
Module 2 Discussion 1
Conflicts in the Workplace
How can conflict in the workplace affect the quality of care for the clients? Describe examples and
techniques you have seen.
Let s face it: health care settings are naturally stressful environments. Workplace stress can increase
personal conflicts between coworkers and when the conflict escalates, no one wins. Some classic
causes for conflict are staffing shortages which lead to heavier workloads or longer shifts, unmet
expectations, cultural diversity, inconsistency in knowledge and power.
Conflicts may exist between physicians, between physicians and administrators, between physicians
and staff, between staff and management, or even the patient or patient s family. Conflict may range

Swedish Vampire Films and Their Effect On Youth Essay
Vampire films are gaining popularity in many countries. The majority of these vampire films portray
one dimensional love or horror stories. Unlike other vampire films, Let the Right One In is a complex
film and novel that can be interpreted to reflect social problems in Sweden. The film and novel
illustrates a divide between young people and adults in Swedish society. These different age groups
are represented by different characters. The Swedish vampire, Eli, is not simply a monster, but she is a
complex character with which the audience can sympathize as she appears to be a twelve year old girl.
Although Eli is not a human child, Eli represents youth fighting against the dangers of Swedish
society. Eli must murder to stay alive, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If there are no benefits left for other generations of Swedes, then the youth may face higher levels of
poverty. Eli s victims contrast the people Hakan murders because his victims are all young people.
Hakan exemplifies one of the dangers youth face. Although not fully portrayed in the film, Hakan is a
pedophile. In the novel, Hakan does take advantage of a young boy s desperate situation. The boy has
no money and must prostitute himself. The author may be directing attention to the problem of poor
youth that do not have the means to survive. This could be another example of the social welfare
system of Sweden benefitting the adults, while the children suffer. In addition to Hakan victimizing a
young boy, Hakan rapes Eli. While in Tommy s basement, Eli was being handled, like an object
(Lindquivst 392). However, Eli fights back and escapes from Hakan. Eli s escape represents that
Swedish youth face these sexual dangers and must fight off these dangerous adults. In addition to
Hakan sexually victimizing young kids, the people Hakan harvests blood from for Eli are young
people. First, Hakan kills a teenage boy in the woods. Then, he attempts to murder a boy at the pool,
but Hakan fails as the boy wakes up and screams for help. Perhaps the failed murder shows the
progression of youth in Sweden standing up to the oppression of dangerous adults. When young
people ban together they are able to save each other. The theme of young people saving each

AFL Is Crucial To Student Learning
AFL is crucial to student learning and teacher achievement due to its many benefits. When
assessments are planned and prepared with a purpose it is known to enhance learning and motivate
students, hence there are many benefits to AFL. Providing constant and timely feedback about the
teaching and learning processes to the teachers and students, helping students to become more
responsible towards their own learning and developing self reflective skills in students are just a few
benefits (Center for Teaching, 2014). Additionally AFL also helps teachers in addressing student errors
or lack of understanding in a appropriate manner; fosters an attitude in students that values
understanding and long term retention as well as increase ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore teachers knowledge, skills and competencies in classroom assessment practices are very
important (Koloi Keaikitse, 2012). As teachers play a major role in student achievements and
preparing them for future, it is essential for them to understand how to assess and evaluate students
learning outcomes (Koloi Keaikitse, 2012). For this reason, Reynolds, Livingston, Willson, (2009);
McMillan, (2008); Nitko, (2001) maintain the common argument that because AFL plays a vital role
in teaching and learning related activities teachers should master basic assessment competencies.
Without this ability the type of assessment will be useless for the future learning of the students. For
example, most common type of assessment provided in the classrooms are pen and paper tests taken at
the end of a unit, the result from this is never used to improved student learning as teachers perceive
the topic as completed and done with. Vandeyar and Killen (2003) argued that regardless of
educational setting, high quality assessment practices should satisfy essential principles such as
validity, reliability, fairness, discrimination, and meaningfulness. For Vandeyar and Killen (2003), if
teachers have a clear understanding of these principles; they can have an informed framework of using
assessment results to make better informed decisions from assessment results. When teachers
misunderstand these principles, their assessment practices are more likely to generate worthless
information and this might hinder them applying various classroom assessment strategies and form to
assess and evaluate the students. Therefore in order to be more competent and knowledgeable in AFL;
teachers are in need of professional development in order to foster effective AFL in in their
classrooms. In addition, another factor that will increase an awareness of classroom assessment

Distinctively Visual Analysis Painting
There are a lot of factors in this painting that suggest the woman is the main subject of the painting.
One of them is where the woman is placed in the painting, which is directly in the middle of the
painting. The three men surrounding the woman are positioned in a way that they almost create lines
pointing towards the woman. This automatically causes our eyes to shift on to the women in the
middle. The woman is also the only one facing the audience directly with her face fully shown as
oppose to the rest who only have half their faces.
The highlights and shadows in the painting also plays a part in suggesting that the woman is the main
subject of the painting. Strong contrast between the middle area of the painting and the sides can be
seen. This creates further emphasis on the woman as the light enable us to see most of the features on
her face highlighted as compared to the rest. This creates an effect as if the light is directly on her. ...

In repetitive service operations, efficiencies can be gained by standardization. Standardization
increases the total quantity that can be produced from a single or limited amount of items. This also
tends to increase productivity because of less complexity of each job and because workers learn to do
their jobs more efficiently with increased repetition. CKC has a relatively simple menu and also
limited inventory space to carry numerous items anyhow, so the simple and limited menu allows for
some standardization. Also, as previously mentioned, CKC has five major separate work stations, each
repetitively performing its own task or process. These processes at each of these stations are
repeatable and therefore conducive to standardization. According to our book, the role of workers is
elevated in a lean system. Lean systems require a flexible workforce. Workers in flexible workforces
can be trained to perform more than one job. A primary benefit of this is that workers can be moved
from one workstation to another to help relieve bottlenecks should they arise. Also, if an employee is
out sick or on vacation, another employee can step in for them to keeps product flow moving. Uniform
flow is an important aspect of lean systems. CKC has 10 full time employees and all, except the
cooks, are flexible and can move from station to station if needed. Companies using lean systems

communities don t have schools, so they all crowd the available ones. The distance covered to go to
school, sometimes discourage the students. The female children also would be denied education,
because they would be sent off to marry or stay at home and work on farms or house chore. Most
fathers considered it a waste to train a female as she will soon be a married off and the fathers name

quality and standard is maintained. Some schools only have not more than 20 students in the class.

income, unemployment and underemployment, this eventually leads to resulting poverty for most
individuals in the rural sector. These consequently leads to rural urban drift with increasing
infrastructural facilities. These urban migration also leads to shortage of skilled and unskilled labour

The Manufacturing Component Of The International...
Section C
Manufacturing The manufacturing component of the International Feasibility Study can be argued as
the most important element in the decision making process for expansion. The four decision criteria
Legacy Homes saw as the best fit to our expansion efforts include available skilled workers that
demand a low wage in the market, a prime manufacturing location with a developed infrastructure
close to suppliers and consumers, the attractiveness the area presents in terms of growth potential and
incentives for new business, and the ease of transitioning current patents, capital, and culture into
Croatia. First, we will discuss our most important criterion when considering our business level
strategy of focused low cost, which is an abundance of skilled workers that demand a low wage in the
market. As Croatia focuses its efforts on economic development and a thriving business climate, they
have segmented some of their less dense regions into business zones. Many of these business zones
are near major business centers or have a fully developed infrastructure that have allowed business in
the region to grow and, as a result, towns have populated and labor pools have enlarged. The downside
is that Croatia is also introducing competitiveness clusters to foster competition amongst businesses in
similar geographic regions, which can push the price of labor up. An effect of the recent economic
downturn is a staggering 370,000 people are unemployed, so

On Earthquakes Essay
On Earthquakes
An earthquake is a shaking or trembling of the crust of the earth caused by underground volcanic
action or by the breaking and shifting of rock beneath the surface. The volcanic action and shifting
rocks create strain which continues to build to a sudden release of pressure resulting in a shock wave.
The vibrations produced in the crust can vary from barely noticeable to enormously destructive. Shock
waves can be classified into two broad categories. Waves that send particles oscillating back and forth
in the same direction as the waves are traveling are called primary. Primary waves, sometimes called
compressional waves, travel through the earth beneath the crust. Secondary ... Show more content on

The modern seismograph was invented early this century by a Russian seismologist, Prince Boris
Golitzyn. This device made possible the modern era of earthquake research.
Although earthquakes have occurred and affected mankind for as long as humans have been around,
historical records are either lacking or considered unreliable before the middle of the 18th century.
However, some records do exist and date major earthquake events back to 425 BC when one occurred
off the coast of Greece resulting in an island named Euboea. Another occurred in Asia Minor about
AD 17 and another leveled much of the Roman city of Pompeii in AD 63. During the Middle Ages,
severe earthquakes struck England, in 1318; Naples, Italy, in 1456; and Lisbon, Portugal, in 1531.
Casualties from major earthquakes have resulted in the greatest disasters in history. The worst
occurred in 1556 in the Shannxi (Shensi) Province in China and killed an estimated 800,000 people.
During the 18th century, the Japanese city of Edo (site of modern day Tokyo) was struck and killed
200,000. Earthquakes in Sicily in 1693 and Lisbon in 1755 each killed about 60,000 people. In 1797,
approximately 40,000 died when Quito, Ecuador was struck.
Historically, the most powerful earthquakes to strike North America occurred in 1811 and 1812 in
southeastern Missouri. However, the most famous earthquake to strike in North America

interpretations. This article tries to make a further research of the ambiguous phenomenon from the
perspective of TG grammar and to give the cognitive differentiation of the syntactic ambiguous
sentence which enable us to have a complex and accurate understanding of the sentence structure. The

the perspective of the TG grammar to find the similarity and the difference between these two

The Syntactic Ambiguity in Chinese The ambiguities in Chinese could be analyzed from three
perspectives: structure, semantic and semantic structure. The structure of the Chinese is simpler than

Caused by the Structure of the Sentence Based on the immediate constituent analysis of Chomsky, Lu

syntactic structure is the linear sequence of words superficially. However, the combination degree of
words is different in the same syntactic structure, the combination of the different parts of the sentence
obeys certain rules, but not the simple combination of one word with the next word. Examples are
shown below: Example 1: Woai du jindai li shishu.(我爱读近代历史书) In example 1, two different
interpretations could be reached: one is that jindai and li shi both are the attribute to modify shuji , the
other is that jindai and li shi combined to form a new adjective jindai li shi to modify shuji . Example

pervious 2009 quarterly filling and 2008 financial results. Overstock disagreed with Grant Thornton s
position, and unfortunately the timing of the situation could not have been worst considering the SEC

affirming that they never took position as to whether Overstocks 2008 financial statements should be
reinstated, since they did not issue an audit opinion for the 2008 financial. Furthermore, Grant
Thornton clarified that they were engaged to review, not to audit, the company s interim financial

Moral Compass Essay
Running head: MY MORAL COMPASS
My Moral Compass
My Moral Compass
Our deepest and enduring sense of identity comes from realizing our connection to the larger world
(Bloom, n.d.). Morality directs life s journey; it is the basis of all decisions, attitudes, and goals. The
process of being moral is developed from personal experiences and parental guidance. One set of
values may differ from another, but neither is wrong. The Code of Ethics designed by the American
Nurse s Association (ANA) in 2001, is the framework for ethical practice and personal moral beliefs
in nursing. The moral compass is the key component to ethical decision making and practice as
defined by ANA. Nurses use a moral compass to guide them in ethically caring for ... Show more

My passion extends to when I was a child, dreaming of practicing medicine free of cost to people who
really needed the care.
Cultural values also influence decisions made in my nursing practice. The American culture is a
melting pot of values. Two that are important in my life are family and will power. Family is a scared
part of my identity. I grew up as an only child in a single parent household. When I was a young, I
remember the realization of how important it was to have family because I was a latch key kid. I make
it my mission to incorporate families in patient care and to educate other medical professionals on
family centered care. Also, strong will power is highly important. The positive energy exerted from
strong will creates a healing atmosphere. The positive attitude that a nurse presents allows for better
healing. In nursing, it is important to instill strong will power in patients; they are at their weakest and
need direction. Will power also serves as a motivator for other staff to provide excellent patient care.
Spiritual beliefs also have influence on a professional moral compass. My inner guidance is the bases
for my spirituality and religious values. I was not raised religiously, but have attended church a few
times. I have studied many of the world s religions in depth. I believe that life is a spiritual journey
that is guided by positive and negative energy. Kindness and hope release positive energy into the

Porn and Prose Essay
Porn and Prose
Pornography has the ability to stay current with each technological breakthrough while pushing the
borders of what we deem as acceptable in reading and writing. In, Writing Material: Readings from
Plato to the Digital Age by Tribble and Trubek, an article by Gopnick notes the death of the word
before its technological resurgence. Each new medium was more visually and sensually rich that the
last: movies gave way to talking movies, which gave way to color talking movies, which gave way to
round the clock talking color television. In that context, words just hung around looking glum, with
hardly enough energy left to compose themselves into sentences (180). Gopnick then discuses the

The availability and widespread usage of Internet porn has made these mediums more accepted than in
the past. While Playboy was once considered a novelty in the risqué, it is now considered tame
compared to the material found on the World Wide Web. Playboy is also known for its articles and
political satire. The common joke is that men only subscribe to Playboy for the articles , but more
often than not, men are reading those articles. You can t say that for most of the porn found on the
web.
Reading has a history of association with sensuality. In On Women and Reading , from Tribble and
Trubek, there is a painting of an elegant woman reading in a chair. The painting is whimsical in nature
and depicts an enjoyment of the literature. She is fully clothed and without an erotic pose, but the
softness of the painting coupled with the casual lounging with her book is somehow sensual. Novels
were regarded with considerable suspicion by the respectable, especially the godly , who feared that
female novel readers would become idle, sexually aroused, or obsessed with a fantasy world (Tribble
and Trubek 338). This fear was in the context of reading, but today, with the popularity of Internet
writing and publishing; women have found their own place in pornographic text.

Summary Of Alice Walker s Two Ways To Belong In America
Home is Where The Heart Is Is it better to settle with what you already have and know or branch out
and strive for comfort elsewhere? This is the ongoing debate between sisters, Dee (Wangero) and
Maggie in Alice Walker s Everyday Use and sisters Bharati and Mira in Bharati Mukherjee s Two
Ways to Belong in America . In Everyday Use Maggie is a soft spoken homebody who has never
found interest in straying from her mother while Dee on the other hand has moved on in life and uses
her past as an image to prove how far she has made it in life, she even changed her birth name to cut
all ties with her past. In Two Ways to Belong in America Bharati and Mira are Indian immigrants who
both came to America with intentions of keeping their Indian heritage, but over time Bharati faded
from her culture while Mira kept true. Although Maggie and Mira decided to stick to their roots, Dee
and Bharati chose to immerse themselves in a new culture. Maggie in Everyday Use and Mira in Two
Ways to Belong in America both chose to never stray from their traditions. This is displayed through
Maggie because she lives at home with her mother and will marry a small town boy with a similar
lifestyle to hers, She will marry John Thomas (who has mossy teeth in an earnest face) (Walker para.

Obsession With Drag Queens
The Gayest Summer Ever My obsession with drag queens has intensified, especially over the past
couple months; and it all began when I went to my cousins house in St. Louis. Ronni and Dorothy are
my only cousins that are my age, and like me, they are both quite different from your average fifteen
year old girl. Their obsession with drag queens started long before I came over this year, so they
basically convinced me it was the best thing ever, and I haven t been the same since. Every summer
we plan to have a little get together type thing that usually lasts about a week, week and a half. When

I couldn t get enough of Adore Delano. I had to leave a couple days after Pride, so I still had PCD by

Frida Kahlo Editing Techniques
The documentary Portrait of an Artist by Frida Kahlo is easily seen as an old film due to the simple
editing techniques. Despite this, the film still accurately portrays the artist s life in the famous Blue
House outside of Mexico City. She shared this home with her husband Diego Rivera, who was a
famous muralist and painter. Frida Kahlo s full name was Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón
de Rivera. She was born in Coyoacán, Mexico on July 6, 1907. She ended up changed her birth year to
1910 in order to associate herself more with being a product of the Mexican Revolution. Her father

Edgar Allan Poe Homoeroticism Analysis
Edgar Allan Poe s multifaceted representation of homoeroticism through The Murders in the Rue
Morgue, The Mystery of Marie Rôget, and The Purloined Letter is truly a departure from typical
nineteenth century portrayals of same sex desire within literature. Rather than being something that
Poe strives to suppress, the homoeroticism present throughout all three Dupin tales is meticulously
ingrained into the structure of the texts and unapologetically nurtured, whether it be through individual
characters behavior or through the explicit exploration of homosocial relationships between men.
What allows Dupin, the narrator, and the Minister s this foray into the realm of non normative
sexuality is Poe s embrace of the nineteenth century bachelor

Wireless Industry Essay
Over the past decade the wireless telecommunications industry has undergone a multitude of changes
and experienced rapid growth. Developments in technology and consumer demand have fueled this
growth and research shows that this growth will continue in the years to come. This paper will analyze
the basis for these trends in consumption patterns, to include the utility derived from the products,
changes in demand, market prices and the elasticity of demand of wireless services.
Utility is defined as the satisfaction one get from consuming a good or service (Colander, 2004,
p.179). The utility derived from the use of wireless communications devices includes freedom from
being tied to one place, the hope of increased productivity, and cost ... Show more content on

This trend almost guarantees that demand for wireless products and services will continue to grow for
many years across many sectors. Today, managers and business leaders may be apprehensive to adopt
new wireless technologies over their current wire bound infrastructures because of quality and security
concerns. This new generation of workers has already entered the workplace and as they come into
positions of more power and influence they are more likely to deploy wireless solutions, which they
have already adopted and become comfortable with. Another growth factor of the wireless industry is
the decrease in market prices and the price elasticity of demand for wireless products and services.
Advances in technology and increased competition explain the decrease in market prices in the
wireless industry over the past few years. Growth projections of the industry have created an incentive
for more telecommunications carriers to enter the market, resulting in increased competition. This
increased competition has made demand for wireless products and services elastic, meaning that the
percentage change in quantity would be greater than any percentage change in price (Colander, 2004).
This will cause wireless product and service providers to keep prices low and offer other non
monetary incentives to attract potential customers. But

Analysis Of The Book Salvation By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Now there aren t many things in life that are free. It seems as if everything comes with a price. And we
are justifiably skeptical of anything that advertises itself as absolutely free. So it may be difficult for
us to comprehend that something as significant as God s grace comes so freely. Is has no dollar
amount, no price tag on it. Paul says that salvation is given by grace, not as a result of our own works.
We can t earn salvation. That seems easy to understand theologically, but we don t usually act like this
is true. Grace and salvation are free! And they are tremendous gifts at any price. In an old Dennis the
Menace cartoon, Dennis and his friend Joey are leaving Mrs. Wilson s house, their hands full of

That Greek word sozo , or saved, is used in the New Testament to describe salvation in many different
ways, meaning at different times rescued, safety, security.
We have an example of grace in our Old Testament lesson for today. We find the Israelites, once again,
grumbling out in the desert. It wasn t enough that God delivered them from the hands of their
Egyptian oppressors. It wasn t enough that God provided safe passage through the parted waters of the
Red Sea. It wasn t enough that God gave them a new covenant on Mt. Sinai, restating and reaffirming
God s relationship with his people. It wasn t enough that provided the columns of fire and smoke and
cloud to guide them. It wasn t enough that God provided food and water for them throughout their
wilderness journey. In this story near the end of their journey, they people find a reason to complain
against God.
An encounter with some poisonous snakes is enough to draw their attention back to God. They ask
Moses to pray to God on their behalf and plead for his mercy. And God, out of grace, provides them
with an opportunity to be saved. They do not deserve God mercy, nor have they earned it. God s
mercy is given, because it is God s nature to be merciful. And out of love for his people, God provides
for them. That is grace. By grace you have been saved through faith , says Paul. By God s undeserved
favor toward us, we have been rescued and delivered through faith. Faith does not mean

Transitioning Into High School
The effect of choosing which high school a student will be attending will last longer than the four
years. The decision follows the student into college, continuing their habits set in high school. The
more basic question is whether they will attend a same sex or co ed school. The different types of high
schools do not only effect the 9 12th grade experience but effects the behavior of students
transitioning into college classrooms. This is a common debate in my house: whether it is helpful to
attend same sex high schools or not. My sister attended a same sex school and her college professor

It took me a few years of high school to be comfortable raising my hand in class. I was too scared to
ask something dumb, or answer a question wrong that I found myself and other girls asking each other

schools find it necessary to have a talk to males about how to treat female classmates and how to
behave themselves while also teachings girls how to properly treat their make classmates. Single sex
schools communicate more on how to handle the drama that may occur when putting same sex
students together. Transitioning from high school to college is a complex process for students from all
schools. It s complexity is rooted not only in choosing the gender of the school but rather the size,
environment, distance and other factors that go into determining where these new adults will go for
their next four years. Although the college atmosphere is a new feel for all incoming freshmen, the
habits and behavior students learn from high school tend to stick with them when they enter classes at
universities. The effect of going to a same sex high school can show differently in all students at the
start of college. The same goes for co ed graduating

human health; for example, antibacterial protein and peptide, enzymes and hormones. Certain insects
constitute superior health food. As a nutritional resource, edible insects and their industrialization

4.1.1 Protein and amino acids
Protein is the basis of all organism activity and constitutes numerous essential materials such as
enzymes, hormones and hemoglobin. It is a principal constituent of antibodies as it bolsters the

the proportion are higher than that of most plants; the protein content of several insects is higher than
that of commercial meat, poultry fowls and eggs. It is composed of more than 20 types of amino acids

It is with these words that Harold Zidler the owner of the titular nightclub in Baz Luhrmann s Moulin

employed to make the simple story more dramatic, amplifying the movie experience to a degree that
viewers are made wholly aware of the artistry and technology involved. In contrast to naturalistic

The most apparent similarity between these two films is that both films revolve around the daily lives
of the main characters.
The main characters, Charlie and Mr. bean, in The Kid and Mr. Bean The Ultimate Disaster Movie
respectively, both have child like qualities, and the tendency to be rather mischievous. Mr. Bean is
naive and self centered, sometimes to the extent of becoming somewhat mean. Despite his

Bean himself, in a typically English environment, then later putting him in an international
environment. Being release in 1997 it is a light hearted satire of how the more conservative English
society reacts to and attempt to adapt to rapidly changing international standards and the shifts in
power.
The main difference of these two movies is that The Kid aims to bring some cheer to its audiences
hearts by showing how joy can still be found in the gloomiest conditions (as depicted in the daily lives
of Charlie and the child he has adopted) and also to reflect the state of the society while Mr. Bean The
Ultimate Disaster Movie seeks to bring some comic relief into the highly stressful lifestyle of the
modern day individual, by actually letting them laugh at a highly exaggerated, and therefore comic,
version of themselves .
As mentioned earlier, the era in which Charlie Chaplin s The Kid was made did not allow for colour or
sound to be incorporated into its production. Being disadvantaged in this area, the actors in the film
had to make up for it by emphasizing on facial expressions and body movements, in order to express
thoughts and emotions, and also to portray certain unique mannerisms and character traits of the
various characters in the story. Modern day audiences who are unaccustomed to this form of acting
might feel uncomfortable viewing films from the silent era, because the actors may seem to them, to

Religion And Religion In Fernando Vallejo s Our Lady Of...
An author s religious views will play into their work and how characters react to the views around
them. Today we get to see how we religion became integrated into Latin America and how the
colonizers subjected the people to a christianity. We can see blatantly how the idea of god and morals
set by Catholicism play into the societies set within the fantastical yet historically real worlds set by
the authors. Sometimes, religion and politics go hand in hand within the stories set due to how
government and control can be unveiled in the stories. Religion becomes a driving tool in how
characters within the stories function. The influence being so prevalent, that character rely on religion
to excuse their actions and provide justifications for their behaviors. Slowly we see religion influence
countries into oppressive dictatorships that value church preservation over the psychological and
social impacts that church holds over the common people. Religion holds influence over an author s
writing and the story being told, European influences to this day still have lasting effects on of Latin
American countries. The autobiographical novel Our Lady of Assassins by Fernando Vallejo depicts
the city of Medellín where the main protagonist, Fernando, returns to see his childhood city and share
it with someone. That someone being Alexis, a male escort and dicaprio (hit man) caught in a war
between gangs. The novel takes place in Columbia, at the time of the novel is heavily influenced

Government Bailout for Corporate Failures Essay
Gup (2003) brings out that financial trouble is a periodical concern that occurs to banks, industrial
companies and other organizations. Gup begins his article by reviewing the history and importance of
government bailouts for corporate failures. In his article on What Does Too Big to Fail Mean? he uses
rhetoric questions in order to engage the readers in his analysis of government bailouts. For instance,
he poses the question, what should governments and government regulators do about it? (Gup, 2003,
p. 29). It in this case referred to the periodical financial troubles of the above mentioned institutions.
By using the question, Gup engages the reader in trying to think about what the government can do in
cases where businesses face ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This organization was meant to deal with the widespread business failures, unemployment and
municipalities in financial distress. The RFC was however terminated in 1957 (Gup, 2003).
Gup presents a second option which governments can adopt in response to business failures by
exploring extents to whicht governments can move to protect companies from their competitors. He
gives the example of how in 2002 George W. Bush imposed tariffs on imported steel so as to protect
selected ailing steel companies from foreign competition. Gup highlights the opinions of others who
claimed that the move by the former US President was not an action taken in national interest but was
aimed at gaining West Virginia and Pennsylvania votes (Gup, 2003). Here Gup uses a skeptical
statement and attempts to make the reader aware that government action can be intended for political
gain instead of the goodwill of the nation.
Gup also uses approaches aimed at narrowing down the scope of his article. He presents aspects of the
wider topic about government bailouts and states that his article would not be reviewing those aspects.
Gup in his beginning chapters warns the reader that there are also cases where there is the intervention
of international bodies such as the International Monetary Fund, such as when the US Treasury and
IMF aided Brazil, Mexico, Korea, Brazil, Argentina and other

How Did The Korean War Affect America
In 1894, the Sino Japanese war broke out, which was the start of Korea s involvement of
independence. The Japanese had easily dominated the Korean peninsula, driving the Chinese out and
demanding them to recognize Korea as an independent state. This incident gave shock to most of the
western countries as they did not know about Japan s military prowess and modernization. As a result,
the Russians felt intimidated by the Japanese because they did not want anything to happen to
Manchuria, the country that gave them easy transport with the Trans Siberian Railway. However, as
they feared, the Russo Japanese War broke out in 1904, regarding the competition of the control of
Manchuria and Korea between Russia and Japan.

The history is one of the reasons why the war is a civil war. Before the Korean War occurred, the US
and USSR had arbitrarily split Korea after World War II. The 38th Parallel line that split the two
Koreas became official and determined which countries were supporting which part. Because of the
line dividing the two countries, Kim Il Sung, the president of North Korea, suggested to USSR an
attack in order to reunify Korea. The USSR had probably agreed to this suggestion because they
would ve seen this invasion as a test drive for Berlin. Although it seemed as if the USSR had started
this war, Kim Il Sung had first thought of this idea and made it into reality. Also, when looking
through the events after the parallel line was established, both of the Koreas had numerous skirmishes
that involved in reunifying their country. Kim Il Sung and Rhee Syng Man, the president of South
Korea, both were competing for the leadership of the whole Korea for already a long time. This shows
the hatred that was already built up in both the leaders hearts, which made Kim Il Sung suggested the
USSR supported attack on South

Gangs Of El Salvador Analysis
Gangs of El Salvador
In the documentary, Gangs of El Salvador by Vice News, the viewer gets an insider s perspective of
the gang activity in El Salvador. The two gangs that were talked about in this documentary was the
notorious MS 13 and 18th street gang. This documentary was made to inform people that there is a
serious gang problem not only in the United States, but in other parts of the world as well.
Furthermore, I will discuss the Gangs of El Salvador, current issues regarding gangs, and how the
country of El Salvador is combating the gang issue.
According to the United States Federal Government and the Department of Justice, the definition of a
gang is an association of three or more individuals, whose members collectively identify themselves
by adopting a group identity. In addition, it then describes the ways that gangs can identify themselves
by tattoos, hand signs, a common name, slogan, and graffiti. On the other hand, the definition then
goes into saying that the group s focus is to implement fear, engage in criminal activity, and intimidate
others. If we look into the history of MS 13 and 18th street gang, we can see that the refugees had a
tough time assimilating into the American culture in the 1980s when they came over from El Salvador
to Los Angeles. With ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he interviewed the local police department, a lot of the officers said that they are waging war on
the gangs of El Salvador because the murder rate is too high. In addition to the police response, the
gangs took this act as an act of aggression and declared war on the cops. I feel that this approach is
only going to antagonize the gang members and aggravate them and make them want to kill cops. On
the other hand, I think that the police should try to win over the hearts and minds of the gang members
and try to educate the population, so that the youth don t resort to joining

Task 1 P1) Management Accounting is a branch of accounting which refers to accounting information
useful for management and acts as a decision making support system. Its functions include planning,
controlling, and decision making in an efficient and effective manner. (Bhattacharyya, 2011)
Management Accounting vs. Financial Accounting Management accounting and financial accounting
are different in many ways. To begin with, the oldest difference between these two is that
Management accounting provides information to internal users which include managers and
employees. Whereas, financial accounting provides information to external users such as shareholders,
government, bank and so on. (ACCA, 2016) Financial accounting records past or historical ... Show

Through the use of just in time systems, there s a greatly reduced dependence on recyclables and work

inventory gets the following advantages. There is a nominal amount of inventory which is outdated,
because the higher rate of inventory turnover maintains any items from staying in stock and becoming
outdated. Since production works are extremely brief, it is much easier to halt production of 1 product
type and turn to another product to meet changes in customer demand. Also the low inventory levels
imply that inventory positioning costs, such as warehouse space, are reduced. The business is

The Writings Of Christopher Columbus
The nature in which we live is truly a beautiful thing. When the Europeans first made contact in North
America, they were immediately in love with the views they encountered. They were interested in
wanting to know more about the land, the animals that peeked around, and the people who called it
home. Artists such as, John White had heard the tales of what Christopher Columbus had described
during his time in North America, which led to them wanting to make their own discoveries. Everyone
had their own opinions and views of the world but artists were able to capture the natural images and
feeling they had through their paintings. Landscape paintings became of interest to artists as a way to
depict nature, a man s spiritual place in the world, and his relation to God. The paintings of nature
became a way for artists to express themselves visually and spiritually, while also expanding what
people could see, read, and feel. Landscape paintings helped to grow communities and expand western
movement. There was an issue between tearing down and using the resources of nature to build
communities and to increase material wealth. Thomas Cole, an American artists who trained in Europe
in landscape painting for a few years felt that America s nature was the most beautiful to be seen. Cole
depicted Native Americans in a few of his paintings. The landscape painting of Niagara Falls was one
of Cole s most notable works of art. People found very little interests in his religious

Symbols In The Scarlet Letter
Scarlet Letter Symbolic Theme Essay The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne was written amidst
the 1800 s. Hawthorne was a famous American author during that time frame. He is a relative to a
judge from the Salem Witch Trials, which was his Great Great Grandfather John Hathorne. Hathorne
was the only judge who did not express atonement for his crimes, which led people to dislike all the
Hathorne s. This sparked Nathaniel Hawthorne s interest in the Puritan times, which resulted in the
Scarlet Letter. Hawthorne delineates Puritan standards religiously and culturally in an outstanding
way. He was also an Anti Transcendentalist which means that he believed that all humans were evil. In
his novel, the Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne uses the symbols of the scarlet letter, Reverend
Dimmesdale, and burrs to add onto the overall theme of guilt. First off, Hawthorne uses the symbol of
the scarlet letter to contribute to the theme of Guilt. The scarlet letter is forced upon the bosom of
Hester, who is the protagonist of this novel. Hester had a child after her husband was known to be
missing. She was accused of Adultery, and the scarlet colored letter was put on her as a token of
shame to cast a shadow on her eternally. Hawthorne explains, In a moment however, wisely judging
that one token of her shame would poorly serve to hide another (Hawthorne 50). This quote shows
that the scarlet letter is a profound symbol of guilt, it could not have been hidden with

Monkey s Quest For Immortality In Journey To The West
Immortality has been made into this ultimate goal. Literature and films have often painted immortality
as a gift only given to the few who have proven themselves worthy of it. A life full of great wisdom,
experience, and many other joys. In Journey to the West, it opens up with the birth of Monkey and
follows him as he tries to achieve immortality. Monkey wants immortality and is willing to do
anything to get it; thinking immortality will bring him a an enlightened life. After reading Journey to
the West, I believe immortality should not be something that is prized as the ultimate gift. I think
living an immortal life would be far worse than a mortal one and throughout this paper I will discuss
why. Why would someone want to be immortal if they cannot share their life with others? Sharing
with others is what life is about. Making connections and relationships ... Show more content on

So many experiences that anyone with the luck of getting to experience one would be grateful.
Monkey became king of his people, he learned great skills from the Patriarch, he went to the heavens
and met the Jade Emperor. Through all these extraordinary events Monkey does not even enjoy them.
Monkey wants immortality so bad that he takes everything, no matter how precious it is, for granted.
All of these experiences can be considered once in a lifetime events but to Monkey they are nothing.
All in all, in my opinion, immortality is worthless. With immortality comes selfishness. Immortals
seem to take everything for granted because they know they will most probably experience it again. I
think living a mortal life is the best and people should stop wishing to be immortal. Mortality is able
to bring out the best in life. With mortality people only have so long before they are gone from the
world and with that little time real happiness is discovered through all of life s hardships. In the end
death is both a hardship a beautiful

  • 2. The Pacific Theater Of World War II The Pacific Theater of World War II saw some of the most destructive and deadly battles in the history of the United States. Many of these battles played out over the course of several days and involved countless casualties from both American and Japanese forces. The Battle of the Philippine Sea is one such battle that marks a major win for the United States in the Pacific. The battle, which took place during June of 1944, took out most of the enemy s carrier based planes, along with their pilots, leading to the successful invasion of the Philippines and Marianas, which served as land based airfields that were close enough to launch attacks of the Japanese homeland. As the battle raged, Admiral Spruance made a controversial decision to not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spruance tasked Admiral Mitscher and his Task Force 58 with control of the impending attack. TF 58−composed of 15 carriers, cruisers, destroyers, and hundreds of planes−was supplemented by several hunter killer groups that preceded the ships arrival in the Marinas. On June 19, 1944, as TF 58 got closer, the Japanese, whose aircraft had longer ranges, launched the first wave of aircraft. However, the incoming planes were quickly spotted, which gave Admiral Mitscher enough time to ensure a large number of his planes were in the air before the enemy got too close to Saipan, which Spruance was intent on protecting. Consequently, Ozawa s aircraft were intercepted and many were shot down. Around this time, torpedoes from US submarines struck and sank 2 Japanese carriers. Many more enemy aircraft waves were launched to attack TF 58; however, a very small number actually reached US ships. Japanese forces only landed one hit on a US ship throughout the entire battle. The Japanese suffered over 300 planes lost in air combat while the US only lost 30. Mitscher was not satisfied, however, and took off in pursuit of the enemy, knowing his aircraft would not be in range until late the next afternoon. Despite being at the very edge of their attacking range, the US aircraft shot down even more enemy planes and also sank another carrier, ending one of the greatest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Issue Of Homelessness Is Not A New Issue The issue of homelessness in remains an issue that is rarely acknowledged or discussed. Governments all around the world boast of all the work they are doing for their country, bringing up GDP, employment rate and promising even more. However, when the issue of homelessness is brought up, governments shy away, pretending that it is barely an issue in the country. Unfortunately, Canada is one of those countries. A study done in 2014 on the issue of homelessness in Canada found that approximately 235, 000 Canadians will experience homelessness in a year, with over 35, 000 Canadians homeless on any given night. (Canadian Observatory on Homelessness, 5) The issue of homelessness is not a new issue; however, this issue needs to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, affordable housing needs money. For not only governments, but people in all sorts of positions, there exists a hesitance to put money into a situation in which one does not immediately benefit. Government s are more willing to spend millions on fighter aircrafts, for example, than invest into their own people. Such behavior begs the question of what the priority of the government is. Ironically, ignoring the homelessness issue in Canada costs the Canadian economy over $7 billion per year. (Canadian Observatory on Homelessness, 6) The Canadian Government has invested in the issue of homelessness, increasing the number of temporary shelters, investing in longer hospital stay, emergency healthcare and various other programs to aid in this issue. However, the rate of homelessness continues to grow; this implies that what has been done is simply not enough. Temporary shelters, similar to their name, are temporary. A homeless person, temporarily, has a place to sleep; however, temporarily does not solve the issue of homelessness. Programs like temporary shelters and emergency healthcare are costing the Government billions each year and not aiding in the fight to end homelessness. For many Canadians a large portion of their income goes towards rent, in fact nearly 1 in 5 households experience extreme housing affordability problems, meaning they have low incomes and have to spend ... • 4. Margaret Hungerford s Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder Beauty. When you see that word, what do you think of? Your significant other? A Victoria s Secret model? Maybe an ooey gooey bowl of mac and cheese? They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder , meaning perception of beauty is subjective from person to person. But is it really? In today s society, we seem to have a preconceived notion of what we are supposed to consider beautiful . Although it seems that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the ridiculous standards and pressures of beauty created by the current modeling and entertainment industry have caused us to form a warped view of body image and what we perceive as beautiful . Although the cliché phrase may have been used before, the first known use of beauty is in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Our minds can be molded by others in multiple different ways, such as through conformity, when people alter their thoughts or behaviors to match another group or what is normal , or persuasion, convincing an individual to accept a certain belief of another (Gray and Bjorklund). Through these techniques, we can be easily influenced, and the media uses them every day to shape our views of the world. From ancient times to present day, the concept of beauty has changed tremendously. Back in the 17th and 18th centuries, society embraced models such as Lillian Russell, a more heavyset woman that would most likely be shunned in the current modeling industry (Bushak). Even in the mid 1900s, one of the most iconic women of the century, Marilyn Monroe, was quite curvy herself (Bushak). Then, in the 1990s, skinny was in; models were progressively becoming thinner and thinner to the point we are at now, influencing the major eating disorder epidemic and body insecurities in adolescents we see today. Even I have noticed this change in Disney Channel; over the years, the actors sizes have gone from a 10 to a 2. For example, the shows I used to watch included actresses like Raven Symone and more recent shows, like Shake It Up, include actresses such as Bella Thorne and Zendaya. Young girls are constantly seeing and comparing themselves ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Describe examples and techniques you have seen. Let s face it: health care settings are naturally stressful environments. Workplace stress can increase personal conflicts between coworkers and when the conflict escalates, no one wins. Some classic causes for conflict are staffing shortages which lead to heavier workloads or longer shifts, unmet expectations, cultural diversity, inconsistency in knowledge and power. Conflicts may exist between physicians, between physicians and administrators, between physicians and staff, between staff and management, or even the patient or patient s family. • 6. Swedish Vampire Films and Their Effect On Youth Essay Vampire films are gaining popularity in many countries. The majority of these vampire films portray one dimensional love or horror stories. Unlike other vampire films, Let the Right One In is a complex film and novel that can be interpreted to reflect social problems in Sweden. The film and novel illustrates a divide between young people and adults in Swedish society. These different age groups are represented by different characters. The Swedish vampire, Eli, is not simply a monster, but she is a complex character with which the audience can sympathize as she appears to be a twelve year old girl. Although Eli is not a human child, Eli represents youth fighting against the dangers of Swedish society. Eli must murder to stay alive, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If there are no benefits left for other generations of Swedes, then the youth may face higher levels of poverty. Eli s victims contrast the people Hakan murders because his victims are all young people. Hakan exemplifies one of the dangers youth face. Although not fully portrayed in the film, Hakan is a pedophile. In the novel, Hakan does take advantage of a young boy s desperate situation. The boy has no money and must prostitute himself. The author may be directing attention to the problem of poor youth that do not have the means to survive. This could be another example of the social welfare system of Sweden benefitting the adults, while the children suffer. In addition to Hakan victimizing a young boy, Hakan rapes Eli. While in Tommy s basement, Eli was being handled, like an object (Lindquivst 392). However, Eli fights back and escapes from Hakan. Eli s escape represents that Swedish youth face these sexual dangers and must fight off these dangerous adults. In addition to Hakan sexually victimizing young kids, the people Hakan harvests blood from for Eli are young people. First, Hakan kills a teenage boy in the woods. Then, he attempts to murder a boy at the pool, but Hakan fails as the boy wakes up and screams for help. Perhaps the failed murder shows the progression of youth in Sweden standing up to the oppression of dangerous adults. When young people ban together they are able to save each other. The theme of young people saving each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. AFL Is Crucial To Student Learning AFL is crucial to student learning and teacher achievement due to its many benefits. When assessments are planned and prepared with a purpose it is known to enhance learning and motivate students, hence there are many benefits to AFL. Providing constant and timely feedback about the teaching and learning processes to the teachers and students, helping students to become more responsible towards their own learning and developing self reflective skills in students are just a few benefits (Center for Teaching, 2014). Additionally AFL also helps teachers in addressing student errors or lack of understanding in a appropriate manner; fosters an attitude in students that values understanding and long term retention as well as increase ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore teachers knowledge, skills and competencies in classroom assessment practices are very important (Koloi Keaikitse, 2012). As teachers play a major role in student achievements and preparing them for future, it is essential for them to understand how to assess and evaluate students learning outcomes (Koloi Keaikitse, 2012). For this reason, Reynolds, Livingston, Willson, (2009); McMillan, (2008); Nitko, (2001) maintain the common argument that because AFL plays a vital role in teaching and learning related activities teachers should master basic assessment competencies. Without this ability the type of assessment will be useless for the future learning of the students. For example, most common type of assessment provided in the classrooms are pen and paper tests taken at the end of a unit, the result from this is never used to improved student learning as teachers perceive the topic as completed and done with. Vandeyar and Killen (2003) argued that regardless of educational setting, high quality assessment practices should satisfy essential principles such as validity, reliability, fairness, discrimination, and meaningfulness. For Vandeyar and Killen (2003), if teachers have a clear understanding of these principles; they can have an informed framework of using assessment results to make better informed decisions from assessment results. When teachers misunderstand these principles, their assessment practices are more likely to generate worthless information and this might hinder them applying various classroom assessment strategies and form to assess and evaluate the students. Therefore in order to be more competent and knowledgeable in AFL; teachers are in need of professional development in order to foster effective AFL in in their classrooms. In addition, another factor that will increase an awareness of classroom assessment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Distinctively Visual Analysis Painting There are a lot of factors in this painting that suggest the woman is the main subject of the painting. One of them is where the woman is placed in the painting, which is directly in the middle of the painting. The three men surrounding the woman are positioned in a way that they almost create lines pointing towards the woman. This automatically causes our eyes to shift on to the women in the middle. The woman is also the only one facing the audience directly with her face fully shown as oppose to the rest who only have half their faces. The highlights and shadows in the painting also plays a part in suggesting that the woman is the main subject of the painting. Strong contrast between the middle area of the painting and the sides can be seen. This creates further emphasis on the woman as the light enable us to see most of the features on her face highlighted as compared to the rest. In repetitive service operations, efficiencies can be gained by standardization. Standardization increases the total quantity that can be produced from a single or limited amount of items. This also tends to increase productivity because of less complexity of each job and because workers learn to do their jobs more efficiently with increased repetition. CKC has a relatively simple menu and also limited inventory space to carry numerous items anyhow, so the simple and limited menu allows for some standardization. Also, as previously mentioned, CKC has five major separate work stations, each repetitively performing its own task or process. These processes at each of these stations are repeatable and therefore conducive to standardization. According to our book, the role of workers is elevated in a lean system. Lean systems require a flexible workforce. Workers in flexible workforces can be trained to perform more than one job. A primary benefit of this is that workers can be moved from one workstation to another to help relieve bottlenecks should they arise. Also, if an employee is out sick or on vacation, another employee can step in for them to keeps product flow moving. Uniform flow is an important aspect of lean systems. CKC has 10 full time employees and all, except the cooks, are flexible and can move from station to station if needed. Companies using lean systems ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The classrooms are poorly structured (leaking roof, mud buildings, no doors or windows) and always not sufficient. Lessons are at times received under trees. Because some communities don t have schools, so they all crowd the available ones. The distance covered to go to school, sometimes discourage the students. The female children also would be denied education, because they would be sent off to marry or stay at home and work on farms or house chore. Most fathers considered it a waste to train a female as she will soon be a married off and the fathers name lost. Unlike in the urban areas where schools are properly supervised by education boards, to ensure quality and standard is maintained. Some schools only have not more than 20 students in the class. Fully equipped and students have access to laboratory for research and practical. Most of such schools available in the urban areas are privately owned.  The rural areas are characterised by low level income, unemployment and underemployment, this eventually leads to resulting poverty for most individuals in the rural sector. These consequently leads to rural urban drift with increasing infrastructural facilities. These urban migration also leads to shortage of skilled and unskilled labour in the rural urban areas. • 15. The Manufacturing Component Of The International... Section C Manufacturing The manufacturing component of the International Feasibility Study can be argued as the most important element in the decision making process for expansion. The four decision criteria Legacy Homes saw as the best fit to our expansion efforts include available skilled workers that demand a low wage in the market, a prime manufacturing location with a developed infrastructure close to suppliers and consumers, the attractiveness the area presents in terms of growth potential and incentives for new business, and the ease of transitioning current patents, capital, and culture into Croatia. First, we will discuss our most important criterion when considering our business level strategy of focused low cost, which is an abundance of skilled workers that demand a low wage in the market. As Croatia focuses its efforts on economic development and a thriving business climate, they have segmented some of their less dense regions into business zones. Many of these business zones are near major business centers or have a fully developed infrastructure that have allowed business in the region to grow and, as a result, towns have populated and labor pools have enlarged. The downside is that Croatia is also introducing competitiveness clusters to foster competition amongst businesses in similar geographic regions, which can push the price of labor up. An effect of the recent economic downturn is a staggering 370,000 people are unemployed, so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On Earthquakes Essay On Earthquakes An earthquake is a shaking or trembling of the crust of the earth caused by underground volcanic action or by the breaking and shifting of rock beneath the surface. The volcanic action and shifting rocks create strain which continues to build to a sudden release of pressure resulting in a shock wave. The vibrations produced in the crust can vary from barely noticeable to enormously destructive. Shock waves can be classified into two broad categories. Waves that send particles oscillating back and forth in the same direction as the waves are traveling are called primary. Primary waves, sometimes called compressional waves, travel through the earth beneath the crust. Secondary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The modern seismograph was invented early this century by a Russian seismologist, Prince Boris Golitzyn. This device made possible the modern era of earthquake research. Although earthquakes have occurred and affected mankind for as long as humans have been around, historical records are either lacking or considered unreliable before the middle of the 18th century. However, some records do exist and date major earthquake events back to 425 BC when one occurred off the coast of Greece resulting in an island named Euboea. Another occurred in Asia Minor about AD 17 and another leveled much of the Roman city of Pompeii in AD 63. During the Middle Ages, severe earthquakes struck England, in 1318; Naples, Italy, in 1456; and Lisbon, Portugal, in 1531. Casualties from major earthquakes have resulted in the greatest disasters in history. The worst occurred in 1556 in the Shannxi (Shensi) Province in China and killed an estimated 800,000 people. During the 18th century, the Japanese city of Edo (site of modern day Tokyo) was struck and killed 200,000. Earthquakes in Sicily in 1693 and Lisbon in 1755 each killed about 60,000 people. In 1797, approximately 40,000 died when Quito, Ecuador was struck. Historically, the most powerful earthquakes to strike North America occurred in 1811 and 1812 in southeastern Missouri. The structure of the Chinese is simpler than English, but more meaningful which account for the main reason of the ambiguity. 3.1. Ambiguities Caused by the Structure of the Sentence Based on the immediate constituent analysis of Chomsky, Lu Jianming and Shen Yang raise the concept of the hierarchy of the phrase structure which says that the syntactic structure is the linear sequence of words superficially. However, the combination degree of words is different in the same syntactic structure, the combination of the different parts of the sentence obeys certain rules, but not the simple combination of one word with the next word. Moral Compass Essay Running head: MY MORAL COMPASS My Moral Compass My Moral Compass Our deepest and enduring sense of identity comes from realizing our connection to the larger world (Bloom, n.d.). In nursing, it is important to instill strong will power in patients; they are at their weakest and need direction. Will power also serves as a motivator for other staff to provide excellent patient care. Spiritual beliefs also have influence on a professional moral compass. Another growth factor of the wireless industry is the decrease in market prices and the price elasticity of demand for wireless products and services. Advances in technology and increased competition explain the decrease in market prices in the wireless industry over the past few years. Growth projections of the industry have created an incentive for more telecommunications carriers to enter the market, resulting in increased competition. This increased competition has made demand for wireless products and services elastic, meaning that the percentage change in quantity would be greater than any percentage change in price (Colander, 2004). It is with these words that Harold Zidler the owner of the titular nightclub in Baz Luhrmann s Moulin Rouge! describes a theatre play to his financier, and at the same time, fittingly describes not only the key features of Moulin Rouge!, but also the defining characteristics of Luhrmann s signature genre, Red Curtain Cinema , to the audience of the film. The term, coined by the director himself, is distinguished by films that follow a simple, recognisable narrative set in a world of heightened reality : Luhrmann describes the central parameters as a simple, even naïve story based on a primary myth...set in a heightened interpretation of a world that is at once familiar yet distant and exotic . The use of music, set, costumes, as well as more technical features such as rapid cuts and editing are employed to make the simple story more dramatic, amplifying the movie experience to a degree that viewers are made wholly aware of the artistry and technology involved. In contrast to naturalistic cinematography which typically aims to mimic reality as if the film could genuinely be taking place somewhere in the world, Red Curtain films keep the audience engaged at all ... • 39. Comparison between Charlie Chaplin s The Kid and Rowan... Name: Toh Lai Hee Class: IA04B (Interactive Art) Lecturer: Lydia Subject: Art History The most apparent similarity between these two films is that both films revolve around the daily lives of the main characters. The main characters, Charlie and Mr. bean, in The Kid and Mr. Bean The Ultimate Disaster Movie respectively, both have child like qualities, and the tendency to be rather mischievous. Mr. Bean is naive and self centered, sometimes to the extent of becoming somewhat mean. Despite his considerable age, he still sleeps cuddled up with his teddy bear. Being release in 1997 it is a light hearted satire of how the more conservative English society reacts to and attempt to adapt to rapidly changing international standards and the shifts in power. The main difference of these two movies is that The Kid aims to bring some cheer to its audiences hearts by showing how joy can still be found in the gloomiest conditions (as depicted in the daily lives of Charlie and the child he has adopted) and also to reflect the state of the society while Mr. Bean The Ultimate Disaster Movie seeks to bring some comic relief into the highly stressful lifestyle of the modern day individual, by actually letting them laugh at a highly exaggerated, and therefore comic, version of themselves . As mentioned earlier, the era in which Charlie Chaplin s The Kid was made did not allow for colour or sound to be incorporated into its production. Being disadvantaged in this area, the actors in the film had to make up for it by emphasizing on facial expressions and body movements, in order to express thoughts and emotions, and also to portray certain unique mannerisms and character traits of the various characters in the story. Modern day audiences who are unaccustomed to this form of acting might feel uncomfortable viewing films from the silent era, because the actors may seem to them, to be over acting to an outrageous ... • 42. Religion And Religion In Fernando Vallejo s Our Lady Of... An author s religious views will play into their work and how characters react to the views around them. Today we get to see how we religion became integrated into Latin America and how the colonizers subjected the people to a christianity. We can see blatantly how the idea of god and morals set by Catholicism play into the societies set within the fantastical yet historically real worlds set by the authors. Sometimes, religion and politics go hand in hand within the stories set due to how government and control can be unveiled in the stories. Religion becomes a driving tool in how characters within the stories function. The influence being so prevalent, that character rely on religion to excuse their actions and provide justifications for their behaviors. Slowly we see religion influence countries into oppressive dictatorships that value church preservation over the psychological and social impacts that church holds over the common people. Religion holds influence over an author s writing and the story being told, European influences to this day still have lasting effects on of Latin American countries. Gup presents a second option which governments can adopt in response to business failures by exploring extents to whicht governments can move to protect companies from their competitors. He gives the example of how in 2002 George W. Bush imposed tariffs on imported steel so as to protect selected ailing steel companies from foreign competition. Gup highlights the opinions of others who claimed that the move by the former US President was not an action taken in national interest but was aimed at gaining West Virginia and Pennsylvania votes (Gup, 2003). Here Gup uses a skeptical statement and attempts to make the reader aware that government action can be intended for political gain instead of the goodwill of the nation. Gup also uses approaches aimed at narrowing down the scope of his article. He presents aspects of the wider topic about government bailouts and states that his article would not be reviewing those aspects. Because of the line dividing the two countries, Kim Il Sung, the president of North Korea, suggested to USSR an attack in order to reunify Korea. The USSR had probably agreed to this suggestion because they would ve seen this invasion as a test drive for Berlin. Although it seemed as if the USSR had started this war, Kim Il Sung had first thought of this idea and made it into reality. Also, when looking through the events after the parallel line was established, both of the Koreas had numerous skirmishes that involved in reunifying their country. The two gangs that were talked about in this documentary was the notorious MS 13 and 18th street gang. This documentary was made to inform people that there is a serious gang problem not only in the United States, but in other parts of the world as well. Furthermore, I will discuss the Gangs of El Salvador, current issues regarding gangs, and how the country of El Salvador is combating the gang issue. According to the United States Federal Government and the Department of Justice, the definition of a gang is an association of three or more individuals, whose members collectively identify themselves by adopting a group identity. In addition, it then describes the ways that gangs can identify themselves by tattoos, hand signs, a common name, slogan, and graffiti. On the other hand, the definition then goes into saying that the group s focus is to implement fear, engage in criminal activity, and intimidate others. Artists such as, John White had heard the tales of what Christopher Columbus had described during his time in North America, which led to them wanting to make their own discoveries. Hawthorne was a famous American author during that time frame. He is a relative to a judge from the Salem Witch Trials, which was his Great Great Grandfather John Hathorne. Hathorne was the only judge who did not express atonement for his crimes, which led people to dislike all the Hathorne s. This sparked Nathaniel Hawthorne s interest in the Puritan times, which resulted in the Scarlet Letter. Hawthorne delineates Puritan standards religiously and culturally in an outstanding way. He was also an Anti Transcendentalist which means that he believed that all humans were evil. In his novel, the Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne uses the symbols of the scarlet letter, Reverend Dimmesdale, and burrs to add onto the overall theme of guilt. First off, Hawthorne uses the symbol of the scarlet letter to contribute to the theme of Guilt. The scarlet letter is forced upon the bosom of Hester, who is the protagonist of this novel. Hester had a child after her husband was known to be missing. She was accused of Adultery, and the scarlet colored letter was put on her as a token of shame to cast a shadow on her eternally. Hawthorne explains, In a moment however, wisely judging that one token of her shame would poorly serve to hide another (Hawthorne 50).
